- 0:17As veterans, we begin new lives when we leave our military
- 0:21service. What is faith?
- 0:24How do we incorporate faith in service and after what resources
- 0:29are available? Who do we talk with about faith?
- 0:33These are some of the many questions that one may ponder in
- 0:37searching for answers to the meaning of life.
- 0:41Join The Revivalists and let's search for some answers
- 0:44together. Luke 923 Then he said to them,
- 0:49All, Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves,
- 0:53and take up their cross daily, and follow me.
- 0:58Hey everybody, welcome, welcome. Today is Monday, August 31st.
- 1:05What is? The one.
- 1:08Go, dear of our Lord, 2026. What a day, what a week.
- 1:15Lots of things happening in the world.
- 1:19I don't know. You know, the first thing I want
- 1:21to do is I'm praying for the people in Nepal.
- 1:27Yeah, exactly. You know, I know we're going to
- 1:33talk about some subjects today. Exactly.
- 1:38And that's what, you know, has brought on these thought
- 1:41processes of man. Oh, man, God said he wasn't
- 1:47going to destroy the earth again and destroy everybody but man
- 1:55people, yeah. All of a sudden, so only God
- 2:01controls that. That has nothing to do with us.
- 2:04That's God's timing, that's judgment.
- 2:06That's that's how it is because people have, I've seen, I've
- 2:09seen all the news. Why is God allowing this to
- 2:11happen? Because he's God.
- 2:12He's. God.
- 2:14But you know, the one thing I've learned about things with God is
- 2:18he, he's going to find a way to make good out of it.
- 2:22It's not about the destruction. It is about the good side of
- 2:27things. But we we have to be a cognizant
- 2:30participant in that process. And, you know, ever since we've
- 2:36started this whole Genesis journey and reading the Bible, I
- 2:42think, you know, Darrell, for me, it's not just that we've
- 2:45been reading it. I think it's the way we've been
- 2:47reading it. I think it's the conversations
- 2:50that we've been having that has really made a difference for me
- 2:56on, you know, just. You're real green when we start,
- 3:04you were really green. Well, I was, but you know what?
- 3:08In some ways that's actually a very refreshing way to look at
- 3:12it, because I'm not coming at it with biased lenses, right?
- 3:17I'm coming. No, no, well, or even that whole
- 3:26academic side, right? I mean, 'cause there is now this
- 3:29blend of looking at things from an academic side.
- 3:33But you know, we both lived a little life too.
- 3:36So me. More than her.
- 3:39Because you have a couple of more.
- 3:40Years I've had. My own fair share of living
- 3:47life. But that brings a certain amount
- 3:51of wisdom to the table as well. So I don't know.
- 3:55So that's really the biggest thing is, you know, what
- 4:00happened, what has happened with Nepal?
- 4:02You know, they're still looking for bodies.
- 4:04There are people, you know, I was watching on the news this
- 4:07morning, this gentleman, his wife was going on this once of a
- 4:11lifetime adventure. And he went over there to try to
- 4:15find her. And he's just, you know, he's
- 4:17feeling a bit defeated that he can't find her.
- 4:20But with all of that rubble, you know, is it surprising?
- 4:24No. And I I was watching a video the
- 4:26other day of somebody had their cell phone and was watching it
- 4:30come down the road and the, the animals were running, the people
- 4:35were running the cars, you know, to some degree.
- 4:39But then I saw people who were like, OK, I'm walking down the
- 4:43street. I'm lolly talking, you know, and
- 4:45I was like, these are not, these are the naysayer believers,
- 4:49right? Or that this not going to happen
- 4:52to me? The naysayers that are
- 4:57recovering from Nepal or who did not and and God determines the
- 5:03fate of us all. We have a lot to do with how we
- 5:07conduct our lives. But the Lord our God in the at
- 5:11the end of the night. The bottom line is he's God,
- 5:14he's sovereign. He knows better than we could
- 5:16ever. So between that, I've made a lot
- 5:20of progress on the RV. Come on y'all do it yourself
- 5:27network. Is that Home Depot?
- 5:40You know, I've made so many trips.
- 5:41Are you back for more supplies? Yeah, for some more materials.
- 5:45I'm going to get it done, though.
- 5:47What are you doing it for? Hey, in case you guys don't
- 5:49know, you know, I'm taking the mission out to the world.
- 5:53I'm the revivalist mission is. Might get a sticker on.
- 5:59I want, I would love to have the the trailer wrapped.
- 6:04Wouldn't that be neat? Daryl is to have the trailer
- 6:08wrapped. If somebody can pay for that,
- 6:12not us, that would be great. Put the MBR logo.
- 6:18So I'm taking the RV to Virginia, to the Rally for Vets,
- 6:24Dominion Raceway, you know, race.
- 6:29So that's going to be on September 12th, and I'm going to
- 6:33commentate it, right? Yeah.
- 6:35I grew up watching the races, so I'm pretty stoked at this
- 6:38opportunity, you know? Yeah, I got it down.
- 6:42There is a pace to it, all right.
- 6:44Coming around lap 2 is a Navy veteran.
- 6:48Nope. Armies are delayed.
- 6:50Come on. Military bias here, you know.
- 6:57Hey, it's, it's the only event known that all 5 branches are
- 7:02competing against each other. I think so I think that there is
- 7:08a Space Force racer out there. They they're rising, rising to
- 7:14the occasion. Hey.
- 7:18Hey, little humor, little humor. Maybe I I need to bring some
- 7:23crayons from the Marines though you.
- 7:27Know what focus you don't know not Marines, maybe laughing a
- 7:34little bit, but those were they are they human facing Canario's
- 7:39Cane Corso they yes go go on YouTube and watch some of the
- 7:44training you like. Oh, we didn't do that.
- 7:46Absolutely. We were smart enough to not but
- 7:52but Jose is supposed to join me too.
- 7:55You know if y'all know who Jose is?
- 7:57Jose Flores from the motivated mindset, he said.
- 8:02We haven't talked this week, but he's supposed to join me too.
- 8:06So between the two of us and our Gopro's and learning different
- 8:11setups. So that's why we're practicing
- 8:14with some different set up here to make sure that when I'm
- 8:17taking this on the road that everything's going to work good
- 8:21and make sure we get different visuals, the ratio, you know.
- 8:26Anyways, I'll probably wear my headset 'cause you got to hear
- 8:29yourself thinking when those cars go by.
- 8:32So anyways, hey, MJ says hello. Thought I would stop on again.
- 8:37Hope you all hope you all tagged me a lot.
- 8:42Just fine on us. And Jay's super, she's super.
- 8:47So anyways, you want to lead us off in prayer?
- 8:50We have much to discuss today, so.
- 8:53They were father, son, and the Holy Spirit.
- 8:55Father heaven, we thank you for your presence.
- 8:57We thank you for your love and joy.
- 8:59And Lord, as we go into our program, let us continue to
- 9:02immerse you in our lives and those are going to connect with
- 9:05us. We certainly bless your name.
- 9:08Listen, be honourable to do so and be loving to do so.
- 9:11We thank you, Christ Jesus, we take you for the Holy Spirit,
- 9:14and we take you, Lord, for the relief of people who are
- 9:16listening. Follow us, those who ask
- 9:18questions. And Lord, we take you for
- 9:20priority, us for answers. Provide for them.
- 9:23We love you because you first loved us.
- 9:25It's a wonderful loving name that is indeed Christ Jesus in
- 9:28the presence of the Holy Spirit, that your daughter, sons,
- 9:31friends and servants and Savior men, Amen.
- 9:34Amen. Father, Son of the Holy Spirit,
- 9:37Amen. All right, so you want to lead
- 9:38off? You want me to lead off.
- 9:40All right, so you know. You like doing it?
- 9:43So something that has been weighing on my mind this week
- 9:50was I learned this, this, I want to say technique in my academic
- 9:56studies. And it's asking the five why's
- 9:59of a problem. It's 5 why's got to ask the five
- 10:03why's. What are the five why's?
- 10:05Well, why is this? Why is the sun yellow?
- 10:08Well, why is it hot? Why, you know?
- 10:11Why is it 93? 1,000,000 miles, you know, you
- 10:14got to ask the five whys. Well, you can apply that to a
- 10:17lot of different situations and topics and that's what I was
- 10:23getting at with the Nepal side of things, this whole flood
- 10:27thing and, and something that is really been connecting also with
- 10:33my conversation the last two weeks on the From Pain to
- 10:36Purpose radio show. I had Russ Blaylock with me and
- 10:39we've been talking about alcohol addiction and the impact that
- 10:44it's had on our lives and both, you know, him with his own abuse
- 10:50side. I've been the victim of the
- 10:53abuse side for my second husband.
- 10:57And how do we make these connections with culture,
- 11:01because the military culture, the veteran culture in and of
- 11:05its, you know, both sides of things has perpetuated alcohol
- 11:10as a part of, you know, self-service medicine, right?
- 11:15I mean, but but that's been from the instance of Noah that has
- 11:22been an answer, right, that a lot of people have gone to.
- 11:27It's a self medication. But my question of not so much
- 11:32the question but it's really the question of why?
- 11:35Why did Noah had? Why did his grandson find him
- 11:43the way he did passed out in the tent naked?
- 11:48Well, why do we have to ask the question?
- 11:51Well, why did he get drunk? Then we have to ask the
- 11:54question, well, why was why was there alcohol?
- 11:59Well, that's probably something that he learned how to make
- 12:03before the flood even happened. But it's not so much that
- 12:08whether he drank at all, but really getting to the underlying
- 12:13reason of why he felt the need to drink, the moral injury and
- 12:19he. Thought he.
- 12:22Failed. Yeah, but it's not.
- 12:24He didn't. Do.
- 12:25Enough, but not that he just failed himself, but that he
- 12:28failed humanity, that he failed God and you know, and.
- 12:36Each, each of us know what it's like to carry weight that we
- 12:39don't have to carry, but we do it because it feels as though
- 12:43fucking. If I'd have done this, if I
- 12:44could have done a little lecture, I could have done such
- 12:46a such. He did what he's supposed to do.
- 12:49He preached for these people to understand they didn't get it.
- 12:53They were still, they were still dating, they were having babies,
- 12:56giving marriage, probably eating BBQ, they're doing all sorts of
- 12:59stuff. And the day came and still had
- 13:02an opportunity to own the day they did because it never
- 13:06rained. It never rained.
- 13:09It was missed in the garden, but it never rained.
- 13:11They never saw it before. And So what is this rain stuff?
- 13:14And when it started happening, they, I'm sure they were banging
- 13:17on the door and, and voices that he knew, he recognized family
- 13:21members, friends, people who mocked him.
- 13:25They couldn't get in. And he carried that.
- 13:29It's, it's, it's shame, it's guilt, it's mourning, It's,
- 13:32it's, it's the difficulty pieces.
- 13:35And so we don't even know if he was, you know, getting lit on
- 13:39the ark, but we do know that he he did so and let's let's let's
- 13:43talk about Kanan really quickly. Kan must have been very close to
- 13:46Noah because he went to see Noah.
- 13:50But he probably was a child too. He brought his father was some
- 13:53grown guy. He probably was a child when he
- 13:55saw this. I'm thinking as a child, he
- 13:58probably was a child seeing his grandfather.
- 13:59He probably thought it was funny, but it wasn't funny.
- 14:02Yeah. Most people think it was Ham
- 14:06that got cursed. You know, Kanan did.
- 14:09And there's there's a reason for that for historical purposes.
- 14:14And you're right, Eva, the moral injury is not for just Noah, not
- 14:19for just his sons, but his sons who had wives and children, his
- 14:23wife who those daughters who are married those those women who
- 14:29are married to Sham Jacobs and Sham Jacobs and Ham and one of
- 14:37their mothers is Kanan's mother. You know, we know we get the
- 14:42Canaanites even say it. All of them, all of them might
- 14:46like so and who they weren't supposed to marry, right.
- 14:49So we we find out that it probably just wasn't Noah who
- 14:54was suffering from everyone of. Them everyone.
- 14:57And because I, you know, the thought client came to me from
- 15:01the moral injury perspective for veterans especially, you went
- 15:06and served and you were in the, you know, fought wars and you
- 15:11still see more wars happening. You still see, you know, you
- 15:16know that that there was killing, there were it was
- 15:21either kill or be killed, right? You saw people being injured and
- 15:26what has changed? But for Noah, he was in this
- 15:30point of he saw the destruction of everything.
- 15:33And then then what? He he's leading his whole family
- 15:41to rebuild the world, right? Rebuild the population.
- 15:45So now he's the leader of the world, but having to start
- 15:51everything from scratch, building new houses again,
- 15:54planting farms again, right? Remember.
- 15:57It wasn't just for 40 days and 40 nights.
- 15:59There was time in between at the right even had to come back and
- 16:03all that, right? So.
- 16:04The waters to recede and they're sitting there twiddling their
- 16:08thumbs and you know. You're dealing with the wall
- 16:11injury. Hurry up and wait, Hurry up
- 16:14dictating time. Yeah, absolutely.
- 16:17Hurry up and wait and just still be sleeping.
- 16:19Military, hurry up and wait, yeah.
- 16:22They were in a hurry up and wait thing and then as soon as they
- 16:24got there and they could start planning things, then you're
- 16:27you're back to hurry up and wait again, because it takes time for
- 16:31everything to grow. But then you start thinking
- 16:33about the people. This suck is back to
- 16:35relationships. And that's why I think why I
- 16:37wrote Welcome to my People garden, because all of this is
- 16:42about people relationships. And you know, Can you imagine?
- 16:47Discussions that were going on. Yeah, right.
- 16:51Well, they didn't want to talk about it to God.
- 16:52It was just ever present. Well, because everything that
- 16:55they thought that, you know, God wanted to get rid of as
- 17:02population on earth is rebuilding again and he sees how
- 17:07people are behaving, I think the more he realizes.
- 17:15While the while everybody was on the ark, you know you, you're 2
- 17:19by twos, right? So you know, you get the unclean
- 17:21clean animals. They were populated.
- 17:24That's what they knew to do. So when when the ark.
- 17:27What else are you going to do? You had Netflix on the ark, hey?
- 17:31Look, we can still do this, right?
- 17:33So they were populated and so when the time came for the ark
- 17:38to be open, the animals went out.
- 17:42When I was pregnant, we had babies and such.
- 17:44They went out too. So we started and I believe just
- 17:48after further research, I've been doing this for a long time,
- 17:50just research and stuff out like that.
- 17:52So the two by twos, they were animals that when they went
- 17:56pregnant, they had children, They they had descendants really
- 18:00quickly. Rabbit, you know, you keep
- 18:01going, right? So we are in a position as
- 18:06humans the the female gestation period is 789 months.
- 18:11You know, sometimes right, right.
- 18:12And so. One those. 71 those 789 months
- 18:17on the yard, Lord expedited all of that.
- 18:20So but they, we don't know this for fact, but probably he
- 18:26counted some more as well because remember what the call
- 18:30was to about the animals came on their own.
- 18:33You'd have to coach them. They'd have to coach them at
- 18:35all. They just came right and the
- 18:37people to the very second, last second before the Ark was
- 18:41closed, they had the same opportunity to be housed on the
- 18:44Ark. So you can only imagine when
- 18:49they start realizing, oh crap, Noah.
- 18:54Noah had it right. We we missed.
- 18:57We're missing the boat where that comes from.
- 19:01You missed the boat. I mean, he warning warned the
- 19:04mall. But could you imagine the sounds
- 19:06that that would have? The temptation would have been
- 19:09there for Noah and his family. Can we just let them in?
- 19:13No, because once you sealed the ark that problem.
- 19:16That would have happened. Well, they would have lost
- 19:19everything. They would have all been lost
- 19:21then too, right? I mean, because the seal of you
- 19:25got to close the envelope, the envelope of the Ark was closed.
- 19:30You break that penetration, that's it.
- 19:32It's it's over. The membrane is gone and it's
- 19:35going to get, everything is going to get wet inside the ark.
- 19:40So there was no going back once the Ark was closed.
- 19:44I I say all of that to think even.
- 19:46You, you're rocked by it, right? I'm looking at you, Huh.
- 19:49Are you thinking about it right now?
- 19:50Oh, I can visualize it in my head.
- 19:53You know, I mean that would been, that would have been a
- 19:56tough choice. Like our babies, our children?
- 20:00Well. We're here.
- 20:02We're here to. We're here to still teach,
- 20:05because there's still. Think about the evacuation from
- 20:08Iraq. I mean, that's what came to
- 20:10mind, right? The evacuation.
- 20:12Y'all need to get out of here, You need to get out of here.
- 20:15And everybody's waiting to the last minute.
- 20:17Oh, it's not going to happen to me.
- 20:18Really. That's them, not.
- 20:21US. You're lying to yourself and
- 20:24thinking that's the and the lies we tell ourselves are the ones
- 20:28that are the most dangerous. It's not the ones that you could
- 20:31tell me. It's I believe my own lies when
- 20:35I can. You know, if I believe my own
- 20:38lies, I'm the one that's getting myself into trouble, not you
- 20:41getting me into in trouble, right?
- 20:43So you have to be careful. What are you?
- 20:45What are you asking for? What are you ignoring?
- 20:49And and you get I could just only imagine Noah's saying
- 20:53really we're we went through all of this and people are acting
- 20:58the same. I mean, I think even his own
- 21:01family members that they are acting in his home.
- 21:04Yeah, yeah, that that's that was.
- 21:08Those those are supposed to know better now.
- 21:10Right. And we had this opportunity to
- 21:13be different and yet we are now still just the same.
- 21:19You was interested in the narrative genesis in in relation
- 21:22to the to to Noah's family. You don't hear vocal contact or
- 21:29context from the sons, their wives, or this or Noah's wife
- 21:35called Noah, right? Right.
- 21:36Even when he cursed Kanan, you heard nothing from Kanan.
- 21:40You just knew what was going to happen.
- 21:42But I think it was the riffraff. They didn't need to, right?
- 21:46But he he got drunk for a reason.
- 21:49It wasn't just because oh, he imbibed too much that night.
- 21:53I mean if I. Don't think he was like bar
- 21:55drunk, I just think. No, no, no.
- 21:57I mean, it was enough to have passed out for whatever reason,
- 22:01right? Whatever guilt or shame or
- 22:04whatever was, you know, the, it's kind of like the big man on
- 22:08campus effect and then, you know, now, now here's the rest
- 22:13of history. Lead us.
- 22:15How can you be an example when you bar in this state?
- 22:19And of course, they had to know what drunkenness was.
- 22:21Oh, for sure, right? Yeah, that's probably why they
- 22:24reacted. But they had since enough after
- 22:27the curse to Canaan to go back up, not watch the father.
- 22:32He probably was nude and cover him up and such.
- 22:36And then when he woke me as he had, he had heard or seen or
- 22:39both what his grandson had done. Yeah, I don't know.
- 22:45I just, I just, you know, that's been something that I think from
- 22:50the moral injury healing to recovery side of things that
- 22:55brings context for veterans, first responders, that that you,
- 23:02you've done this magnanimous thing, whatever that magnanimous
- 23:07thing is, right? Maybe somebody got a Purple
- 23:10Heart. Maybe they, you know, got some
- 23:13kind of, you know, award for whatever they did, but but then
- 23:18the next part is and then what? I mean, I think it's why I have
- 23:23my from pain to purpose, you know, show that there, yes,
- 23:27there had been there's been some pain about something, but then
- 23:32how do you turn it into purpose to help somebody else move on,
- 23:34because there is the the and then what?
- 23:37You're not plugging your show explaining to the global
- 23:41populace as as Noah lived it, but he lived it in real time in
- 23:48his own way. And we have no either no record
- 23:51of how God dealt with him. After that.
- 23:54We just know that it occurred and we also know that he was the
- 23:58person going forward that was going to make sure that the
- 24:01world was populated, the animals going out back into the 50s now,
- 24:06not 2 and and got the world situated the way it was supposed
- 24:10to be. When we're obedient, ladies and
- 24:12gentlemen, friends, brothers and sisters, when we're obedient,
- 24:17you know what happens. We're exponentially blessed.
- 24:22Look at all of the may, the mayhem, chaos, dysfunction and
- 24:25toxicity has been in your life when you were disobedient.
- 24:31Look at all of that when you were obedient.
- 24:34Do you see how you came out on either end?
- 24:36You remember when you were disobedient?
- 24:37You know you came out of there. You remember when you're
- 24:39obedient how you continued to excel and God enhanced you.
- 24:43Noah still was blessed because he did.
- 24:46He did exactly what God told him to do, right?
- 24:49If you wouldn't had a cup or bottle or a whatever, he had to
- 24:56get through it because he was still human, immortal,
- 24:58everybody. And when we talk about mortal
- 25:01injury, it is you are mourning and grieving for things you're
- 25:07carrying weight that you really should not be careful.
- 25:11It is it becomes so toxic and chaotic and mayhem feel that you
- 25:17start wondering where you the basis of the pain and you're not
- 25:23you're not God did this. God knew the scripture tells us
- 25:28that God was sorry that he had made he was sorry idiot ever
- 25:37made man, so he needed to cleanse the earth.
- 25:41So when we talk about the moral injury, we're not talking
- 25:43because it's the title, not because it's something labeled
- 25:45by the DSM 5 or TR. It is something is real,
- 25:52something that someone is addressing right now somewhere
- 25:55in the world, even even I we we know people and we still have
- 26:01moral injury. We're ourselves, right.
- 26:04And so who best represents that? The people who are able to
- 26:08navigate, who able to return to safe harbor, the people who are
- 26:13already engaged in. It and it's difficult to talk
- 26:17about moral injury. You know, I, I watch a variety
- 26:22of different people out there posting on social media about
- 26:27their lives and, and it's not hard to identify those who are
- 26:32going through moral injury, right?
- 26:35I think the difference that I have seen in the approach that
- 26:39we're trying to take is not a science version of it.
- 26:44I mean, it is using some aspects of what the clinical response
- 26:50is, but putting, putting God back in as the moral, the true
- 26:55north of the moral compass. And if you don't understand that
- 27:00was it, I was right, I you gotta put God as your true north of
- 27:04your moral compass. Because if you don't have God as
- 27:08the true north, well, what is your true north?
- 27:12What are you basing your true north on?
- 27:16And I was, I was, you know, I got my truck prepared this
- 27:20morning. So that's why I felt a little
- 27:21rushed trying to get logged in and everything.
- 27:26Because. You know, you're like, OK, I'm
- 27:32very proud of you for doing that.
- 27:33And I was like, OK, I didn't say I needed a man.
- 27:36I want a man, but I don't need a man in my life.
- 27:39It. Is going to be more.
- 27:43Expensive to take care of stuff. But that knows exactly what to
- 27:47do. But the point was, is that I saw
- 27:49a billboard that was talking about reviving a car.
- 27:54And I was like, you know, if people only understood we're
- 27:59trying to help revive you to bring it back to life if you
- 28:03really want to, if you, but when you've got God is your true
- 28:07north. And this is like, you know,
- 28:09giving resuscitation, right? We're trying to give you moral
- 28:13resuscitation to revive you and, and, and get rid of, you know,
- 28:19whatever pills, whatever Kool-aid you drink and say, hey,
- 28:24here's the rest of the story, right?
- 28:27Because God has been removed out of so many aspects of our lives
- 28:31between marriage and child rearing and, you know, in school
- 28:38and all kinds of different facets of our life.
- 28:42Well, we, we have to, we have to start somewhere for the veteran
- 28:48population and, and revive our lives with God.
- 28:54And you know, I think even watching some of these
- 28:58mainstream military oriented shows, Darrell, I don't see any
- 29:03reference to God in them, right? I mean, I don't care whether
- 29:07it's SEAL Team 6 or some of these other ones.
- 29:11They may be great on the factual content side of things or some,
- 29:17some simulation thereof, but they do it all without God.
- 29:23You know guys, I've told you guys about my the story on my
- 29:27necklace and I've had this since I was 16 and I I went and got a
- 29:32massage. Don't borrow some money.
- 29:34Today. I went and got a massage and
- 29:37accidentally left it on the table.
- 29:39And I realized that yesterday, the day after God, God had my
- 29:44back. I'm telling you because as soon
- 29:47as I realized it, I was like making, you know, I've got to
- 29:51make a beeline to go back over there.
- 29:53And I ended up calling and he sent me a picture, my cross.
- 29:58It's got Jesus on it. And he sent me a picture and I
- 30:01was like, yes, that's it. God.
- 30:02God would nobody. Swiped it.
- 30:05Huh. Nobody swiped.
- 30:06Not this one, not this one. So.
- 30:10I want to share what I wrote concerning moral injury when we
- 30:15get to that point, right before we leave today, OK?
- 30:18It won't take long now. You had something else you
- 30:20wanted to discuss today too, right?
- 30:22So. So when it comes to moral
- 30:25injury, from a personal standpoint, because I I've heard
- 30:29people say this and and it's true, you know, I have a lot
- 30:33going on personally, professionally, and you wouldn't
- 30:40believe this by me saying. So looking at me, I'm I'm
- 30:43actually an introvert, but I know that when the lights on
- 30:48it's Showtime. So I'm an extrovert, right?
- 30:51And so because. We we mentally prep for this.
- 30:54We. Prep for this we do because we
- 30:57don't know what your morning, mid morning, afternoon, mid
- 31:01afternoon, evening, mid evening, midnight, at midnight, or those
- 31:05slots in between. We have no idea.
- 31:08So for us to be people who say we are and we and we live it out
- 31:12as revivals, we have to set aside often the moral injury
- 31:18that's a part of it. I, Darryl Hartley, have been the
- 31:24clubhouse leader, the chief villain of sin in my life.
- 31:28But I was obedient enough to stop being my own God and say
- 31:33this is how living is not enough.
- 31:35Everyone, you got to know how to live and obedience and truth
- 31:40telling. Being in Ephesus is how you live
- 31:43because that pleases and honors God.
- 31:45Does that still mean that you won't go through things?
- 31:47You still will. Everybody gets the time at the
- 31:49meal. At the meal you still can
- 31:52witness. You can still do cause and
- 31:54effect to bless people with your presence and your testimony.
- 31:58And we look at the stories of moral injury.
- 32:00There are just thousands of stories of moral injury in the
- 32:03sacred Scriptures. But what we do know as those
- 32:07people who were who chose to be obedient, God got him too.
- 32:13He gave Moses 120 years to live, and he would have gone into the
- 32:18Promised Land if he had not struck the rock.
- 32:21We've just spoken to it as been directed, but we still find out
- 32:25at the amount of transfiguration that Elijah and Moses were there
- 32:30to be. They were in heaven.
- 32:31So do I have to look forward to that?
- 32:34Absolutely. I, I really do.
- 32:36Because this place called Earth is not our home.
- 32:38Heaven's our home. It's.
- 32:39Temporary, it's just. Temporary.
- 32:41It's like rulers. They're temporal, right?
- 32:44But when they're obedient, their names just ring.
- 32:47David's name rings louder than Solomon's.
- 32:49Go figure. And God gave Solomon his own
- 32:52personal name called Jedediah. But when he sinned and after
- 32:57repentance, things did change, right?
- 33:00So do we want things to change with us, with God?
- 33:03Yes, we do. We want to go from disobedient
- 33:05to obedient, and we want to remain obedient.
- 33:07And the moral injury, that is God's purpose and that is His
- 33:11job because He will remove it. Will we allow Him to do so?
- 33:17No, that if the word obedient has been on my mind, the can, I
- 33:24probably think the last six months, you know, I mean, but
- 33:29you and I were obedient to starting this show over a year
- 33:33ago. Hey, this is our 52nd show.
- 33:37Remember, this is no, this last week I said we're going to be
- 33:43celebrating our 52nd show today. So that's what this is.
- 33:47We were obedient to what God wanted us to do we.
- 33:50Didn't laugh, we didn't skull, we just did it.
- 33:54Well, we kept batting. I mean, we tossed around an idea
- 33:59of doing a regular revival in person show, but the amount of
- 34:04time is going to take you to organize it and no funds to rent
- 34:09a place. And you know, just I was like,
- 34:12Hey, Daryl, I I have a radio show.
- 34:15So what if we start our own radio show?
- 34:17That's how we got started doing this, right?
- 34:20And the revival mission, I think is very 'cause we kind of shaped
- 34:27it, right? This has been a work in motion.
- 34:30We just knew we were called to do this.
- 34:33He's very married, right? So.
- 34:35He's. Oh, yeah.
- 34:36Guys, you have no idea what's in my inbox every every day.
- 34:41You know, calls that I get even I have very good friends.
- 34:45This is my sister. I love her very dearly.
- 34:47In fact, she gave me some information about something that
- 34:50happened a day or so ago, and I said, girl, I'd have been there
- 34:53and wouldn't have. Hey, I'm a Jaguar.
- 34:56I have No Fear. I'll turn you to a pile of ash.
- 35:00But that's moral injury too, because when you see somebody
- 35:04you love and you care about being injured, you want to
- 35:06intervene. I am a fixer, and I shouldn't be
- 35:09all the time, but that's what I know how to do.
- 35:12And so. But see, I know how to fix my
- 35:15own stuff. She don't.
- 35:17She don't. Look the part but.
- 35:21She can't. I, you know, I love the, I love
- 35:24the TV show Survivor. I don't watch it all the time,
- 35:26but the premises of it is that wit.
- 35:28I'll play Outlast, right? I know how to do that.
- 35:32Believe me, I I am. I'm queen of strategy.
- 35:36Yes, she is. Believe it.
- 35:38Even said something a few minutes ago too.
- 35:39And, and you guys will hear more about it because we talk about
- 35:42moral injury. So my wife Angela is suffering
- 35:48from severe dementia. And so you may say, why aren't
- 35:53you there with her? I, I have someone there with
- 35:55her. As soon as I'm done with the
- 35:57show, I'll go back to where I'm at.
- 35:58I'm like 4550 minutes away. But it's worth it because I
- 36:02mean, this time of week I'm in Denton, I'm in, in the Denton
- 36:06County area dropping off food or whatever the case is.
- 36:09So I was out in dish on the way. I'm like, man, you drive by and
- 36:15you miss it, right? But it is, you know, if you had
- 36:18the stuff in your car and you have somebody to meet you
- 36:21somewhere. And sometimes I get these calls
- 36:24at 1234 in the morning and, and some people, well, that's not
- 36:28safe. When it's your turn, it's your
- 36:30turn. OK, You go and you serve the
- 36:32people because there's nothing like a servant and not one of us
- 36:35can can never say that somebody hasn't been there for us and we
- 36:39didn't have a need, right? If it's hunger, if it's fuel,
- 36:42whatever the case is, I would be for me not to, it's spiritual
- 36:47malpractice. So you need to go out and make
- 36:50sure that you take care of people because ultimately you're
- 36:53going to need, you're going to require someone to assist you
- 36:56somewhere down the line. So that's not some information
- 36:58that I share with a whole bunch of people.
- 37:00And I'm not trying to canvas for empathy, sympathy, but your
- 37:05care, your compassion, your love is coveted.
- 37:09And I certainly appreciate you do that.
- 37:10And you have any questions, comments, concerns, I'm easily
- 37:13found. I'm Darrell Hartley on on
- 37:15Facebook, advocatecounsel@facebook.com.
- 37:18Just contact me and I'll because you never know what you're going
- 37:21through could really enhance somebody else too.
- 37:24My sister told me that. Exactly.
- 37:26But you still have to have work life balance too.
- 37:29You can't be consumed of being only at home and caregiving to
- 37:36your wife as if the rest of the world doesn't exist.
- 37:39I mean, you still have to have adult conversation, interaction.
- 37:42And I work from home and I don't have a whole lot of adult
- 37:46interaction, you know, beyond Cody.
- 37:49I mean, it's almost like in some ways, like going through COVID
- 37:52again, I'm working from home, but I don't always get that
- 37:55outside communication. So it's kind of nice having
- 38:00adult conversations. It's it's important for mental
- 38:03health, even for us. And you know, it's great because
- 38:07we get to collaborate on the show.
- 38:10But think about it. I mean, that's kind of like you
- 38:12can only imagine that's what Noah went through.
- 38:15What some of these other other men, other leaders that we've
- 38:22been reading about in Genesis, one who walked with God.
- 38:26If you're not able to reach out and talk with somebody else
- 38:30who's walking with God, then you need to find somebody who is
- 38:35walking with God and, and you know where you are, the company
- 38:40you keep right? And you know, there are people
- 38:45who have made some bad choices in life and you get, all right,
- 38:48well, how do I change this? Well, was that, is that working
- 38:53for you? You know, and I think as
- 38:55revivalists, it's important to start asking yourself the right
- 38:59kinds of questions. If I'm on a path towards heaven
- 39:03or hell, I'm going to be very blatant about it.
- 39:06Which path are you on? And if you're not on the path of
- 39:10where you think you want to go, then how are you going to change
- 39:14path to get on the right one? Because otherwise, I mean, it's
- 39:20a choice, right? It's a choice.
- 39:23I mean, I, you have to really think about that.
- 39:25What option are you looking for? You know, Darrell one, I've told
- 39:29you the part of how I got on on the path that I've been on is
- 39:35that I I read the left behind series and I got I got it's
- 39:40fictional. I watched the movies the but you
- 39:44know, even even though it was fictional, it was like, man,
- 39:48what a wake up call. It was very frightening.
- 39:52And I started having some serious conversations.
- 39:55All right, well, which camp am I in?
- 39:59How is my life following? The ones who are left behind,
- 40:06who recognized Woulda, coulda, shoulda are the ones who are
- 40:09completely ignoring everything and think, well, where did the
- 40:12hell go? I haven't just been completely
- 40:15oblivious. I mean, that's kind of what Noah
- 40:18was referring to is all these people were oblivious.
- 40:22He was helping the ones who woulda.
- 40:24Coulda shoulda no Every week, every month, every day for.
- 40:27Years for years and years and years and nobody heard him.
- 40:34He's an all crazy man. See, that's, that's when we see
- 40:37people on the on on the island at the stop sign and you know,
- 40:41we work for food or whatever. If I have something, I'd give it
- 40:44to them or at a minimum right now there I have 20 bags, like
- 40:4820 bags, peppermint gum. I got business, I got stuff in
- 40:53there. So if I can't give you cash,
- 40:56I'll give you a gift card, right, 5-10 dollars, whatever.
- 40:59And so that what that'll able you can go do is go in the
- 41:02Whataburger if they let you go in because some people they do
- 41:05look and smell like the great outdoors.
- 41:07I I get it, but there's a meal for you.
- 41:10Here's some here's some other stuff, right?
- 41:11Here's some, here's some temporary toiletries to get
- 41:14yourself going. But we're not doing anything
- 41:18even I that that Christ wouldn't do for his people.
- 41:22He fed, he fed the multitude twice, 3000 and 5000 fishes and
- 41:27lols, right? He healed people right.
- 41:29And so we the scriptures teach us we have not because we ask
- 41:33not and we perish for lack of knowledge If we transfer what
- 41:37we've learned. I'm 62.
- 41:41God willing, I'll be 63 September 30.
- 41:43And on that day, y'all, I was born in 1963.
- 41:47I'll be 63 and I'll never be skinny thing other than 63.
- 41:50I'll be always be 63. Remember that you go and you go
- 41:53out and have fun. You bless yourself because I was
- 41:57one who did celebrate their birthday.
- 41:58Do you think Gore celebrated her birthday?
- 42:02Do you think Noah and his family went out and and did those that
- 42:05whole experience change their lives?
- 42:10Oh, for sure. I don't know how it wouldn't
- 42:12have changed their lives, you know, Because you, you know, you
- 42:17could only imagine with the waters were rising that he would
- 42:21have heard them screaming from the top of the trees until no
- 42:25war. He didn't see any of that.
- 42:28He was inside. Dog, yeah, but I it didn't mean
- 42:31he didn't hear it right. He.
- 42:33I mean he. Was scratching it the knocking
- 42:35off? Sorry my friend, I don't.
- 42:38God has the key. Yeah, I mean, that would have
- 42:41been tough. So I get it, though.
- 42:43There's the moral injuries there.
- 42:47But for our veterans and 1st responders, and you can't, you
- 42:51can't save everybody. They're hearing people, they go
- 43:05to whatever language. Yeah, OK, because they would
- 43:10have perished too. They didn't have photos that he
- 43:16could look out. It's just in the art, right?
- 43:21I shared with my daughter got, you know, locked in the vehicle
- 43:25and mother was crying and, and guys told her to lift up on the
- 43:28handle again and she did and and and and that was like a reunion
- 43:34of never before. And Noah still wanted to take
- 43:39some of these people on the on the yard.
- 43:41They didn't listen. There's nothing you could do
- 43:43about it. Well, by that time it was just
- 43:45too late because the, you know, the, the opportunity had come
- 43:49and gone. They had all that time.
- 43:51They could have helped all that. Woulda coulda shoulda I, I mean.
- 43:56And the oceans, the seas were deep and vast.
- 44:00Nothing went to waste. I mean, think about how high
- 44:03some of these mountains are around the world.
- 44:06And it was all you know. There were no mountains visible.
- 44:11You couldn't, you couldn't escape.
- 44:12Yeah, yeah, you couldn't. Caves, you, you, you know,
- 44:15underground. You couldn't escape.
- 44:16Water went everywhere. Yeah, I don't know.
- 44:19They just would. So it would have been months and
- 44:21months for the water to recede. And you think, and you go back
- 44:25to. Read the story, everybody.
- 44:27It wasn't 40 days, 40 nights, it was more.
- 44:30Well, because it, it stopped it, it rained for 40 days and 40
- 44:34nights. It didn't, it didn't mean that
- 44:36it suddenly went away. I mean, we, we've seen enough
- 44:40destructions that, you know, even in the aftermath.
- 44:43I mean, because like in Nepal, the news, the rooftop was now
- 44:49the flat ground to, you know, that was and all that
- 44:54destruction, all that ground that was upstream has now
- 44:58leveled down to where they are. And, you know, the missing
- 45:02numbers are in the five hundreds or something.
- 45:04So far they have not accepted apparently any American help,
- 45:09which I think probably even for a lot of the American rescue
- 45:12people, that's that's a type of moral injury because they are
- 45:18trained to go in and help. But they but right, it's being
- 45:23rejected. Yeah, they're accepting help
- 45:25from I think like Indonesia and China and some other places.
- 45:33Yeah, it could be, I don't know, you know, but that's.
- 45:36But. Unless they're just so proud
- 45:40that they can't. You know who was proud?
- 45:42Those people who didn't get on the Ark?
- 45:44They were very proud. You see how it ended, right?
- 45:46Right, right. Well, and you see how like the
- 45:50I, I'm just imagining how did the guy, I saw the video of the
- 45:54water trickling down the street and, and I saw the guy with the
- 46:00camera that was watching it and people are just kind of
- 46:03lollygagging. And as he starts seeing the
- 46:07water come around the corner in the building because he's going
- 46:10down in the alley, the water's still going this way.
- 46:13He's cutting in between the two buildings this way.
- 46:16And then and then as soon as he gets there, you can see the
- 46:19video cut off because I think he decided, hey, I better hurry up
- 46:23and run. If you've only got so much time
- 46:27on Earth, then the woulda coulda shoulda's aren't going to really
- 46:32matter anymore. You.
- 46:33See how fast these days are tricking by?
- 46:35Yeah. Were you kids It it?
- 46:37Seemed like it took. Forever, Oh my God, right.
- 46:39And summer lasted longer too. And and yeah, but the days just
- 46:42click by everybody. And before we know it, our Lord
- 46:47savor demon king will be bad. It's written, and this is no
- 46:53coincidence, that that August is over today.
- 46:56I've seen some people posting more more prevalent about the
- 47:04generations are going after each other, you know, parents against
- 47:09the kids, kids against the parents and you know, and
- 47:13revelations. And if you're not, you know
- 47:15you're not headed on that track, maybe.
- 47:20And we're not sitting here, you know, like we're God's right on.
- 47:23We're sitting here based on life experience, based on lack of
- 47:28obedience and based on obedience, right?
- 47:32Have we have we missed the mark in our lives?
- 47:34Absolutely. But have we gone back and stood
- 47:37on that mark? Like in acting, you hit your
- 47:39mark and and you go forward. So for us, right, not because
- 47:43you know, I'm trending towards 63.
- 47:45I look good to be I know I look, look, look, look at that.
- 47:48I'm younger than that. So for me, I want to, I want to
- 47:52tell everybody that you still can get it right if you choose.
- 47:55To those people who like the banging on narc, they had an
- 48:00opportunity that same day to get it right and he chose not to.
- 48:06There's another story that I know we can get into, but I
- 48:09think part of it, well, we can go back to Joseph.
- 48:14I mean, I really respect what he went through.
- 48:19And maybe that's part of what his ending of his story too.
- 48:22Was the end then what? Right.
- 48:25I mean, I mean, he, you know, he helped them get through all of
- 48:30this spamming and his oh, there was something that I sent you a
- 48:35message about earlier last week. Moral disagreement.
- 48:42That was the thing, moral disagreement.
- 48:44And I had never heard that term before, but that was that was
- 48:49the issue between no sorry, between Joseph and his brothers
- 48:55was the moral disagreement about how they were going to handle
- 49:00things, right? I'm talking about when their
- 49:03father passed away. And there was another saying
- 49:07that I texted you about that. I was listening to podcast.
- 49:10It was a crime podcast. And it said resentment.
- 49:14What did I say? Resentment is parallel to
- 49:17revenge or is you know, remember that I'm.
- 49:22I'm. Trying to dig it and I was like,
- 49:25wow, wow. You know, when you don't
- 49:27necessarily look at things in a certain way sometimes and you
- 49:31start thinking about some of the stuff they, the brothers had a
- 49:37moral disagreement with Joseph. Even though Joseph saved their
- 49:43lives. The whole premise from the whole
- 49:45get go was that they had that mentality of things because
- 49:49that's how they were listening to their mothers, that
- 49:52concubines. Obviously not Rachel, but right,
- 49:58right. But but his father Israel knew
- 50:01better. That's why he didn't get over
- 50:03Rachel and he didn't he didn't choose one of his concubine
- 50:08wives to replace Rachel. He didn't choose somebody else
- 50:11to replace Rachel. No, he did not, right?
- 50:15He still wasn't working for her. He he right that.
- 50:18Extracurricular activity. Well, he he he was at AI think
- 50:22it ultimately, even Israel was at a moral disagreement with his
- 50:27own sons. And like it or not, the debt,
- 50:34the mission that Joseph was on saved their lives.
- 50:39You see how you went. Down the list.
- 50:41Yeah, but but they couldn't ever get over that right?
- 50:44That they were in a moral disagreement from that mentality
- 50:48of things. Why am I being cursed?
- 50:50Because. You still.
- 50:53Well, because they wanted to be the chosen one.
- 50:55OK, really careful what you ask for.
- 50:57It's a lot of responsibility. And if they still had that
- 51:01mentality of things, well, they weren't going to change.
- 51:06And God knew that. So they weren't going to be
- 51:10obedient to God. Joseph knew how to be obedient
- 51:14to God. Israel knew how to be obedient
- 51:16to God and Benjamin and Judah. Judah finally, eventually, yes.
- 51:24Out of choice, yes. I think he, you know, like the
- 51:27proof. The proof is in the pudding,
- 51:29right? Yeah.
- 51:29He finally found the proof in the pudding and said OK, I get
- 51:33it. I got it.
- 51:34It's a choice like this. We.
- 51:37Have a choice, Free will, we have a choice.
- 51:41God doesn't make us do anything, but He consistently gives us a
- 51:45way out. There is no known sin to man.
- 51:49He does not give no way out. The same folks then in the
- 51:56middle and now that's a shame. Please ask these 19 everybody.
- 52:02There's not one thing new under the sun.
- 52:05You know those big wheels you see on cars, Those are just
- 52:08chariot wheels. That's all they are.
- 52:10They're not gold and that diamond will.
- 52:13I don't see any, but they probably are somebody who had
- 52:15gold and platinum and and such. That's stupid, I mean.
- 52:20These we just asking the the the burglar to come get your stuff.
- 52:23You want to read this? Let me put the glasses back on.
- 52:30APA 7 y'all. That's what scholars do.
- 52:33Just put it out there. Moral injury is best understood
- 52:36globally as a wound to conscience, identity, and
- 52:40meaning, a rupture in the moral frame that gives a person
- 52:44coherence, dignity, and purpose. It emerges when actions,
- 52:49inactions, or witnessed events violate one's deepest moral,
- 52:54ethical, or spiritual beliefs. This aligns with contemporary
- 52:59scholarship describing moral injury as distress arising from
- 53:04events that transgress deeply held moral expectations,
- 53:09producing guilt, shame, anger, and betrayal rather than fear
- 53:14based trauma. DSM5IN context, moral injury is
- 53:19not a formal psychiatric diagnosis.
- 53:22Instead, DSM 5 recognizes it through the Z Code for Moral,
- 53:28Religious or Spiritual Problems, AKA moral disagreement, which
- 53:34identifies disruptions in moral identity.
- 53:38Yeah, moral identity, conscience and meaning systems.
- 53:42This Z code allows clinicians to document morally laden distress
- 53:48alongside with other diagnosis without pathologizing, right?
- 53:55Yeah, the moral wound itself. Global impact across modalities.
- 54:01Cultural cultures express moral injury through shame, honor,
- 54:06silence, ritual, lament, and communal storytelling.
- 54:10The Bible. The wound often appears as a
- 54:15fracture and collective identity, especially where moral
- 54:18codes are tightly interwoven with cultural belonging.
- 54:22Highly prevalent in the military community.
- 54:26Family. Moral injury destabilizes trust,
- 54:30belonging, and generational narratives.
- 54:32Families may experience fragmentation when betrayal,
- 54:36injustice, or moral conflict disrupt the moral fabric that
- 54:40holds relationships together. Institutional institutions,
- 54:45courts, healthcare systems, governments, religious bodies
- 54:49can inflict moral injury through betrayal, corruption, or failure
- 54:53to uphold justice. This aligns with the research
- 54:56noting institutional moral injury as a disruption in the
- 55:00perceived moral integrity of systems meant to protect and
- 55:04guide social communities. I'm watching time.
- 55:08Communities experience moral injury when collective norms are
- 55:12violated, when injustice is witnessed, or when individuals
- 55:16feel abandoned by the social structures that define meaning
- 55:19and belonging. Religious and spiritual Moral
- 55:23injury often includes spiritual, spiritual disorientation, loss
- 55:28of sacred identity, anger towards the Lord our God, or
- 55:32fear of judgment. DSM 5's Z Code explicitly
- 55:37recognizes these more spiritual disruptions as clinically
- 55:42relevant. Scriptural.
- 55:44The Sacred Scriptures frequently depict moral injury as a crisis
- 55:48of identity, betrayal, meaning, and divine purpose.
- 55:52These narratives provide global cross cultural frameworks for
- 55:56understanding moral wounds. So we talk about when you look
- 56:03at the family betrayal, you look at Joseph's story, institutional
- 56:07betrayal, social debasement, spiritual disorientation, the
- 56:13restorative arc, which when Joseph integrates suffering into
- 56:16meaning, identity, and purpose. And Joseph's narrative mirrors
- 56:20modern moral injury frameworks like exposure, disorientation, a
- 56:24moral wound, rehumanization, integration, and purpose.
- 56:28Now, as we go along, there's this list here to be compiled.
- 56:35Excuse me. We will make sure that we read
- 56:37these in context with every story about the moral injury
- 56:42that we are purposing that day. That's good.
- 56:46I appreciate it. This is very good.
- 56:48I think it, you know, I think we have one more conversation we
- 56:53need to have about Genesis next week.
- 56:56Do you want to talk about the more?
- 56:57Of the screen. Yeah, I want to do the moral
- 57:01disagreement a little bit more, but there's also that incidents
- 57:05that gets into the rape side of things that we discussed.
- 57:10And, you know, there's some news things that came out this past
- 57:15week that we, you know, I think we need to digest that from a
- 57:20public administration standpoint.
- 57:23No Fear. So, you know, that is a huge, I
- 57:28think a huge aspect of the moral injury side of things is we
- 57:32don't have expectations on what the government does, what
- 57:37federal agencies do, the impact of what our culture does and
- 57:43what it perpetuates. I think we have.
- 57:46This is an opportunity, Darrell. This is an opportunity for, I
- 57:52think, our veterans service organization culture to address
- 57:57what does it really stand for. Is they really mean what they
- 58:01they represent, they will do so. I, I, I think it's just, you
- 58:05know, going to have to make leadership, ask some different
- 58:08questions, make the lower people ask some different questions.
- 58:11And what, what is it you really want out of a veteran service
- 58:15organization? I'm not trying to call any
- 58:17organizations out. I'm just saying we need to.
- 58:20If we want different results, we have to ask different questions.
- 58:25Absolutely. SO11 last thing.
- 58:26So even though I've been talking about our our formatting and
- 58:30certain platforms that were on. So when you go on YouTube,
- 58:35probably starting this week, sometimes we'll probably, you
- 58:38know, if possible, we'll have all of the shows that we've done
- 58:42that you can just click on shows one through 52.
- 58:46And the reason why we would like you to do that is because we
- 58:49want you to see how we've progressed.
- 58:52Have we progressed until this point?
- 58:54But because every show, it has an origin, it has a middle and
- 58:59how it trends going forward, right?
- 59:01If you didn't know, we're not boasting, but here it is.
- 59:04No Tooting horns or beat drums. We're the best podcast of 2026.
