- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: So everyone, welcome to Duval of Daily.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jack McFall.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: Hope everyone's having a good one.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: As you're Jacksonville, Jagger is one of massive games against Indianapolis Colts.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: Coming into this game, if someone said that the Jagger sort of won this one, third and 19, I would have called them crazy.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, a lot went into that.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, such a huge win to now have so possession of first place in the AFC South, with four games to go, that the Jagger is now controlled their own destiny.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: And our prime for a position in the postseason.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: very, very exciting.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone on the team right now is playing their best football of the year and most of them, they're best football, they're careers.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, it's very exciting and it's definitely a good time to be a Jaguars fan.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: And it's pressure after the game, Coach Cohen brought up how he thinks that the Texans collapse a month ago was a good thing for the team and the staff because it showed them that it's important to fire on all cylinders all the time regardless of opponent or score.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: And since that game, it's been a completely different team in all three phases.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: Three of those four games, excluding the Cardinals, has been total domination for the Jaguars.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: And everything has gone on their favor.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: All three phases have been incredible.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: So as awful as that loss was, and as much as it still may hurt, maybe it wasn't a poor moment for the young team and a young staff to learn how to win.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, I'll take it.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: If they look at it as a as a positive and think that that game is a big reason why they've played the way they've played this last month, I'll take it, you know, as much as that loss still, still definitely sticks.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: So, thank you so much for being here.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: I hope everyone at the bank on Sunday had a great time.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: It looked awesome on the broadcast, even with the rain.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: The the vibe seemed seemed pretty great.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely would have been a
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, let's dive into this one now.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: Before I get into the individual phases, I want to quickly point out and just say the only real negative coming out of this game, and it's that the team just still commits way too many penalties and costly ones at that.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: Eight penalties for six to three yards was the number in this game.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: And look, it's better than it's been in past games, but I also think that
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: The officiating crew was pretty soft in this one with some calls on both sides for the colds.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they called that offensive passenger clearance on Pittman on the touchdown.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: Probably was not OPI, but still, I mean, it's too many.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: The one OPI I'm truly Myers brought a touchdown back for Brent Strange, which obviously at that point of the game, it didn't change the outcome.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: You
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: It does need to get cleaned up, so in close games, stuff like that doesn't happen.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: When they can't afford to have touchdowns like that wiped off the board.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, I'm still kind of confident that it will get cleaned up this year, even though it's already December and it has it yet, but we'll see, I mean, these next four games are obviously the biggest games of the year, and then hopefully they make the playoffs, and obviously that is the biggest game of the year.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully with that, it gets cleaned up.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see, I am still confident though in that.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: Looking directly at the offense, I think every part of the team compliment each other perfectly in this one, as I said earlier, which makes sense.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they scored 36 points on offense.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: Trevor Loans continues to impress and really be the reason the jugglers are winning the games, these past month, so this past month, so handily,
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: 105.2 quarterback rating in this one, even in some pretty brutal conditions for the passing operation with the rain, the entire game.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's been smart and surgical in the past game, as well as he's used his legs and those big third downs or if there's nothing there, he'll take the five yards and scramble.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's just over all conducted offense perfectly, since that Texans game, and frankly, I mean, it's hard to point to five quarterbacks in football that have played better in the past month or so of this season.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: True.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: It is.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's interesting because if you look back to last season, it was around this time of the season, maybe a little bit earlier, but around the same time that Baker Mayfield really took off with him coming and I think we're kind of starting to see that with Trevor.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: He's very clearly becoming more comfortable and Cohen scheme that is pretty
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: difficult, openly on the quarterbacks with the with the checks, with the audibles, with the motions, with the complex calls.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's why it's important to be patient, you know, in a new system, especially when it's complex as Liam Cummins and it is starting to pay off, you know, after some ups and downs in the first half of the season, Trevor's best play of the season and some of the best play of his career.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, it is coming at such a pivotal point and it has,
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know, help the entire offense execute, including the run game, which brings us to our next key to this went specifically, which is Travis Etienne, who played a great game.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: He found the end zone twice.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: With 84 scrimma jars, he, you know, only average 3.7 a carry, which, you know, on paper is in great and that includes a 28 yard touchdown.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: So he really didn't have his best game average wise,
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: watching the game back or just watching the game while it's happening.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: He was still at the line on so many runs.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_00]: Especially towards the end of the game when, you know, the jacks were in clear, run, downs, and moments trying to run the clock out.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that accounts for some of it, but if you watch, you know, the first hat, especially he had some runs where he showed some really great visions, some great burst, which he's shown all season, right?
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's not anything new, but he definitely played a better game than the average per carry
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: isn't always the best to look at and judge a game based on that because it can be skewed with big runs.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, but yeah, no, he played a great game.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: And then the closer the phenomenal run defense too, so you'll definitely take where you can get.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: You'll take the 82 three of his yards from your running back, no doubt.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's another guy that's going to be so important for the center of the season push as well And everyone is right.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean these are games that they need to win But the Jaguars have looked the most complete on offense in games Were they able to run the ball effectively all four quarters so he's naturally gonna have to stay out obviously
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: Now, we're opening up for the offense, the offensive line had another incredible performance.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: They've really at times this season been so good, zero sags, your cuby hits, and I had to bring them up again.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: I have like five times this season already, but...
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Cole Van Lannick continues to just be so viable and as valuable of a piece on the offensive line as anyone really, he stepped in for injured walker a little this Sunday and played a phenomenal game.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: I left tackle.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he didn't, no cubic hits, no sacks on the lines, so he obviously played great.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: He still the only player to play all four positions on the line in the NFL this season.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: And he's played off all four at an extremely high starter level.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: He's been, you know, what, what I think the front office envisioned pressure Macquarie to be, which is, you know, a guy that can step in and play every position at a high level.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: And that's not a knock on that's something to it because Macquarie's been pretty good at a right guard.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: But.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if I'm going to put you in a position as an offense and it's a play caller where there's an injuring on the line, you don't need to change any philosophy, it's because the line and the execution is not missing a beat.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I mean, I mean, Shadow Cole my own name and for what he's providing for the team he's been so valuable, truly so valuable, cannot be stressed enough.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: Um, that's for the defense, they played an incredible game and obviously, I mean, they only have 19 points with six of those coming on a touchdown in the fourth quarter when the starters were out of the game.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: So obviously, they played a good game, but the the key to winning this game that everyone agreed on and was, I mean, without a doubt, a priority in the building, going into the game was stopping Jonathan Taylor.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: When teams have held him in check, the coach struggled.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: That's how it's been the whole season.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: He is their offense.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: He has a unique ability to completely take over games himself.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: And what are the jags do?
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: They have them to 74 yards on 21 carries.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: He did.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: really nothing all game.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: He had no big lanes open up.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: His longest run was like 14 yards.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: And he never even really hit like a top speed or came close to his top speed because he was bottled up so fast and all these runs.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: The jags have the the best run defense in the NFL in terms of yards per game.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I think just with the eye test they are the best run defense
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: This actually was the first running back that has run for over 70 yards in a game against them this season, which is an insane stat, and it came December 7th, which is crazy.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: They dominated, obviously, you can't ask for much more from a defensive front.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, there's no doubt having driven on an aircarmsuit back in this game made a massive difference, especially in the run game.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: If they weren't out there, probably wouldn't have been different.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: but yeah, I mean that that run defense, that stout run defense that they've had all year.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's hopefully something that they'll be able to count on, you know, for the rest of the real season, and then hopefully playoffs.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's something that they, like I said, hopefully we'll be able to count on and not have to
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: you know, worry too much about because especially in the playoffs, teams win in the run game.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: You win in the trenches, right?
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: You, you, that's how it is.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: So having that is going to be massive for for the rest of the rest of the season.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: Now, as for the rest of the, the defense they did their job, obviously two interceptions, one of them on the colds first pass for play at a game by
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: I know that all of the the doubters and the people that refused to give the January's credo will talk about how it was a backup quarterback.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: So sad for days Jones, by the way, I feel bad for him.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: I really feel for him with the year he was having.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: He probably shouldn't even been out there on the first place, but Fibula injury, which makes it even more heartbreaking and tough for him, hopefully he recovers quickly, but yeah, people will talk about how it was back of quarterback, back up rookie quarterback, so it is an impressive, but...
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: To me, it was still impressive that they still made the plays in the run game to make it a complete non-factor against an MVP caliber running back.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: And apart from a couple of plays throughout the game gave nothing really, nothing easy to the quarterback in terms of the passing game.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care who we find quarterback, discrediting teams for who's put in front of them and beating, who was put in front of them is the dumbest argument
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: But it is what it is, you know, whatever.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: Heinz Allen now has six and a half sacks in the past six games.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: And really when you account for an incredible, he is in the run defense along with that past rush.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: He has really been one of the best players in the NFL period and that stretch.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: He's just been so awesome for that defense.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: And he's such a massive part of why they've been so successful.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I know a lot of people were not happy with its play at the start of the year because the
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: He really has been good all year.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: And the sacs are just finally coming.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, I'd like to think that anyone that was complaining about how the year started for him has since realized he's got, right, he's, everything's fine, but yeah, he's been, he's been awesome.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: He's been so good, can't ask for any more from him, really, in the past one, that I have two months.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: So now the givers have the jets on deck, you know, at home in the back again with the Texans creeping up right behind them for the for the race in the south.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think the cults with what happened and the injuries they've had, you know, I don't want to say anything I shouldn't, but they they really don't seem like they're going to be much of a threat anymore.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: After a
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I guess we'll see, but Houston schedule in the last four is extremely easy.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: They play the chargers, but other than that, they're going to win, winning how it might be the reality of that.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: So the Jaguars are just going to have to match it.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: And when it's as simple as that, they're going to healthier, which is massive.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: They came out of the Colts game, seemingly completely healthy, which is huge.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's something that hasn't really been talked about yet, but is massive.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: And hopefully they can get winner to little back for the jets.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: which is a boost especially on the defense where, you know, camp in LA now has Eric Murray back, right?
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully, when you're back and Antonio Johnson who has actually been pretty great.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: So he has three safety's in those three that have played well enough to earn starting time on the field.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: So obviously, I mean, it's a good issue to have as a coordinator and as a team, but it's interesting to see how they handle that if it's a rotation, if someone doesn't play, you know, if they're on the bench, well, I guess we shall see.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: who knows, yeah, Jets on deck, like I said, I mean, good team is when games are supposed to win, and this is one of those where they better coming out, they better come out, excuse me, firing, and beat the steam, but that's neither here nor there right now.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, they'll be coverage leading up to that game.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: for the rest of the week, but for now I enjoy this victory.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like it's almost anti-climactic because the Jags kind of won so quickly it felt like it was so easy almost, but this was one of the biggest games the team has played years and the score and how it happened doesn't change that.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: It feels awesome to win it.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's a great Sunday.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, and enjoy it and enjoy that for us the week, and that'll be it for me.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you so much for watching.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, enjoy the rest of your week, and go Jets.
