- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. We are also live in Chicago
- 0:18Speaker 1: as there is a game tonight. Week six kicks off
- 0:21Speaker 1: tonight to live at Soldier Field ahead of the Bears
- 0:25Speaker 1: wearing Orange and the Commanders. Welcome to NFL Now on
- 0:29Speaker 1: NFL Network Game Day edition from our newsroom in Los Angeles,
- 0:32Speaker 1: m Andrew Siciliano. As we get to Thursday, more and
- 0:35Speaker 1: more clarity about the injury situation for Sunday. Let's open
- 0:39Speaker 1: this hour with some news on that front. We did
- 0:43Speaker 1: not see a week ago tonight. Jonathan Taylor on the
- 0:46Speaker 1: field in Denver, Colts still somehow pulled out of victory.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Memories of that game, certainly Fondi and Rappaport, Tom Della Sero, Tom,
- 0:53Speaker 1: what's the latest on Taylor today? As they get ready
- 0:55Speaker 1: for the Jaguars And after not practicing on Wednesday, Jonathan
- 0:58Speaker 1: Taylor was back on the practice field today. He was
- 1:02Speaker 1: out there running around. Certainly a good sign in turn
- 1:05Speaker 1: of his progress back from that ankle injury that he
- 1:08Speaker 1: suffered a couple of weeks ago. He missed that Thursday
- 1:11Speaker 1: night game. No major damage to the ankle, but it
- 1:13Speaker 1: was just too quick of a turnaround for him to
- 1:16Speaker 1: be out there. So this is something where from what
- 1:19Speaker 1: I am told, he is still considered to be day today,
- 1:22Speaker 1: but it does seem like it's trending in the right
- 1:23Speaker 1: direction in terms of his availability for Sunday against the Jaguars.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Taylor is obviously a massive piece of that Colts offense.
- 1:31Speaker 1: It also takes on added significance because there are other
- 1:33Speaker 1: running back Naim Heinz still in concussion protocol. He was
- 1:37Speaker 1: on the practice field again today, still wearing a non
- 1:40Speaker 1: contact jersey. We'll see what the chances are if any
- 1:43Speaker 1: of Heinz getting clear and have a better feel for
- 1:45Speaker 1: that over the next forty eight hours or so. Here, Okay,
- 1:47Speaker 1: good one of the a f C South, their Colts
- 1:49Speaker 1: and the Jaguars meantime, I and the Falcons Niners is,
- 1:54Speaker 1: as I said yesterday, one of those sneaky good games
- 1:56Speaker 1: that would be made a lot better if Kyle Pitts
- 1:59Speaker 1: took part in it. What's his status in Atlanta? I
- 2:02Speaker 1: feel like all the Falcons games are good, the hard,
- 2:05Speaker 1: always tight, always kind of exciting. It does sound like
- 2:08Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts has a more than good chance to be
- 2:10Speaker 1: able to play in this one. Missed last week with
- 2:12Speaker 1: a hamstring injury, which was somewhat surprising, But we consider
- 2:15Speaker 1: the fact that his usage hasn't exactly been you know,
- 2:18Speaker 1: it's not like he's been to use a ton down
- 2:20Speaker 1: the field. Maybe this is something that bothered him the
- 2:21Speaker 1: first couple of weeks. Just wanted to get a handle
- 2:23Speaker 1: on it, Sit him down one week, make sure he
- 2:25Speaker 1: came back full strength. That is kind of where it stands.
- 2:28Speaker 1: He practiced again today, another positive sign for his availability.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Was just supposed to be a one week injury. So
- 2:34Speaker 1: it seems like you're going to see Kyle Pitts there
- 2:36Speaker 1: on Sunday. Okay, let's turn to Thursday Night football. The
- 2:40Speaker 1: Commanders as mentioned earlier, and the Bears that Soldier Field.
- 2:43Speaker 1: You guys had a story earlier this morning Ian about
- 2:47Speaker 1: William Jackson the third, the corner who didn't play last
- 2:50Speaker 1: week and did not make the trip to Chicago for
- 2:53Speaker 1: tonight's game. What's that story? Yeah, they have had trade
- 2:57Speaker 1: talk centered around William Jackson the third, the former big
- 3:00Speaker 1: ticket free agent from just a year ago two thousand
- 3:04Speaker 1: and twenty one off Season's on a three year, forty
- 3:06Speaker 1: two million dollar contract. They thought he'd be a big
- 3:09Speaker 1: time centerpiece of this defense. And now, according to me
- 3:12Speaker 1: and colleague Mike Grivo and Tom Pellicero, uh, the William
- 3:16Speaker 1: Jackson sounds like he would prefer a new home. Prefers
- 3:19Speaker 1: certainly a new scheme. Seems seems to see himself as
- 3:23Speaker 1: more of a man demand corner as opposed to a
- 3:25Speaker 1: zone corner. They played zone more than sixty percent of
- 3:28Speaker 1: the time. Just doesn't seem to be a great fit
- 3:30Speaker 1: for him. So the Commanders have had trade talks. There
- 3:32Speaker 1: are interested teams, so it does appear that a trade
- 3:36Speaker 1: would be likely here just three point eight million dollars
- 3:39Speaker 1: as far as a salary cabit for a team acquiring
- 3:41Speaker 1: in which, considering he's a starting corner, not so bad. Meanwhile,
- 3:45Speaker 1: for the Commanders, their quarterback Carson Wentz will start tonight
- 3:49Speaker 1: against the Bears, despite dealing with what I AM told
- 3:51Speaker 1: as a biceps tendon strain that he suffered last week.
- 3:54Speaker 1: It's an injury near his throwing shoulder, and there was
- 3:57Speaker 1: a significant doubt about Carson Wentz's availability for this game
- 4:00Speaker 1: on the short week just a couple of days ago.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Once coming off maybe his best game was a Commander
- 4:05Speaker 1: through for over three and or fifty yards and a
- 4:07Speaker 1: couple of touchdowns, albeit with the interception at the goal
- 4:10Speaker 1: line at the end of this game. He was able
- 4:12Speaker 1: to finish that game. But I'm told he is sore.
- 4:15Speaker 1: He's not, but he looked pretty good throwing the football
- 4:18Speaker 1: during practice this week, although that was just and a
- 4:21Speaker 1: limited walk through type of a setting. The hope here
- 4:24Speaker 1: is that wins can get through this game tonight, obviously
- 4:27Speaker 1: get a win, and then have ten days to rest
- 4:30Speaker 1: up because the long week after the Thursday night games.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Commander's offense, that's shown they can be explosive. Third in
- 4:35Speaker 1: the NFL in past plays of twenty or more yards,
- 4:38Speaker 1: second in the NFL in wide receiver touchdowns. But they're
- 4:42Speaker 1: beat up. Not just Carson Wentz, but no Johan Dotson tonight,
- 4:45Speaker 1: no Logan Thomas tonight. There are other breakout wide receiver
- 4:48Speaker 1: from last week. Diami Brown, who had a couple of
- 4:49Speaker 1: touchdown catches, listed as questionable with a groin. I'm told
- 4:53Speaker 1: he is expected to play okay. It would be huge
- 4:55Speaker 1: if they had him here. He certainly made a difference
- 4:58Speaker 1: last week. They just couldn't make the play at the
- 5:00Speaker 1: end after that long drive. Thank you Tom, and thank
- 5:03Speaker 1: you Ian. Look Carson Wentz as we get to Chicago
- 5:06Speaker 1: and see lovely Soldier Field. Carson Wentz has made a
- 5:09Speaker 1: lot of plays, but he's also thrown six picks. He
- 5:11Speaker 1: also has seven total giveaways. You gotta help the guy.
- 5:17Speaker 1: You can't necessarily have him throw for three hundred and
- 5:19Speaker 1: fifty yards. And Ron rivera high there, Mike gi already
- 5:22Speaker 1: live at Soldier Field, and Mark Ross welcome back to
- 5:24Speaker 1: the show as well. Rod rivera kind of stepped in
- 5:27Speaker 1: a little bit this week and said quarterback was the
- 5:29Speaker 1: difference between his team and the other NFC East teams.
- 5:31Speaker 1: How are they supporting Wentz? They're not only tonight but
- 5:35Speaker 1: big picture, Yeah, Andrew, not the easiest week for Carson
- 5:40Speaker 1: Wentz and probably not what he expected. Bad enough to
- 5:42Speaker 1: lose four in a row, but then to have your
- 5:44Speaker 1: coach say that, and again, as Ron talked about later,
- 5:47Speaker 1: I just didn't finish my thought. You know, I don't
- 5:49Speaker 1: regret the trade at all. Carson has done some great
- 5:51Speaker 1: things for us. We believe he will continue to do
- 5:53Speaker 1: great things for us in the future. However, it created
- 5:56Speaker 1: a little bit of a storm there for twenty four
- 5:58Speaker 1: to forty eight hours. And I think one of the
- 6:00Speaker 1: things that jumps out to you is how well Carson
- 6:02Speaker 1: handled the entire situation, didn't make a big deal of it,
- 6:05Speaker 1: smile through his press conference, and but talking to his teammates,
- 6:09Speaker 1: they said same Carson this week, no difference. And in fact,
- 6:12Speaker 1: when I talked to Terry McLaurin on the phone and
- 6:13Speaker 1: I said, Terry, what have you learned about Carson? He said,
- 6:16Speaker 1: the first thing that pops in mind is his resiliency.
- 6:19Speaker 1: He said, it's physical toughness, as we just heard Tom
- 6:22Speaker 1: Pella Sero mentioning the biceps injury, but he's gonna play tonight.
- 6:25Speaker 1: And it's the mental toughness to be able to deal
- 6:27Speaker 1: with this and other things over the course of his
- 6:29Speaker 1: time with Washington. He said. The other thing is he's
- 6:31Speaker 1: a great communicator. He said. He brings the wide receivers
- 6:34Speaker 1: together as a group. He says, we talked about the
- 6:36Speaker 1: things that he wants to get done. We get on
- 6:38Speaker 1: the same page. He said. I think that's why you've
- 6:41Speaker 1: seen us hit some big plays down the field, because
- 6:42Speaker 1: Carson put so much time into it. So all the
- 6:45Speaker 1: things that we heard about Carson the whispers, if you will,
- 6:47Speaker 1: from other stops haven't appeared to carry over to Washington. They,
- 6:52Speaker 1: as Terry McLaurin told me, they backed their guy Mark
- 6:56Speaker 1: Well and that's encouraging for Washington and and discouraging that
- 7:00Speaker 1: Ron Rivera came out with those comments and speaks to
- 7:02Speaker 1: the dysfunction of that whole organization. But man and Carson
- 7:05Speaker 1: Wentz has been through more seven lifetimes of dysfunction in
- 7:09Speaker 1: his career what he's dealt with. But another way to
- 7:12Speaker 1: help it is the defense has to step up to
- 7:14Speaker 1: help him. And you know they are on the positive
- 7:16Speaker 1: their seventh in the league in sacks despite not having
- 7:19Speaker 1: Chase Young available, but their last in takeaways and their
- 7:24Speaker 1: six in point and giving up points per game. So
- 7:27Speaker 1: this defense really has to step up and help out.
- 7:30Speaker 1: The offense has shown signs of being prolific. Carson his
- 7:33Speaker 1: fifth in yards passing, but the turnovers are a problem
- 7:37Speaker 1: that we don't know if he can iron those out
- 7:39Speaker 1: because this has kind of been the epitome of his game.
- 7:42Speaker 1: But if the defense does create some more opportunities for
- 7:46Speaker 1: the offense and holds create some turnovers, which they haven't
- 7:49Speaker 1: done up to this point, They've gotten the sacks, but
- 7:52Speaker 1: they just haven't stopped teams and they haven't turned the
- 7:54Speaker 1: ball over, so they'll have to step up as well,
- 7:56Speaker 1: which is supposed to be coached Rivera specialty, so uh
- 7:59Speaker 1: a lot to be worked out there in Washington, Ron
- 8:02Speaker 1: Rivera going back home to Chicago. Remember the eighty five
- 8:05Speaker 1: Bears on the staff as well, d C with Lovey
- 8:09Speaker 1: Smith when that team won an NFC championship game but
- 8:12Speaker 1: eventually lost to the Colts in a rain storm at
- 8:14Speaker 1: a Prince concert in Miami. Thank you Mike Jardi, Thank
- 8:18Speaker 1: you Mark Ross. That is how we open up week
- 8:20Speaker 1: number six. Uh, not that it's not a great week.
- 8:24Speaker 1: It is a great week, but everyone has their eyes
- 8:25Speaker 1: circled on this one right CBS five Eastern Time on Sunday,
- 8:31Speaker 1: Bills Chiefs for the fifth time in twenty four months,
- 8:35Speaker 1: and yes, a rematch of last year's game in which
- 8:38Speaker 1: the Chiefs wanted over time of the playoffs and knocked
- 8:41Speaker 1: him out for the second straight year. We've moved on,
- 8:45Speaker 1: We're we're ready to again focus on this week. And
- 8:49Speaker 1: I know everybody in the media is going to make
- 8:51Speaker 1: a big deal of it, but as players, you know,
- 8:54Speaker 1: it really is just our next game on our schedule.
- 8:56Speaker 1: It's the biggest one we're playing because it is the
- 8:57Speaker 1: next one. Nothing that we did last year carries over
- 9:00Speaker 1: this year. So UM, we've gotta go out there again
- 9:03Speaker 1: into a hostel environment. We know how their crowd is. UM,
- 9:06Speaker 1: it's a. It's a fantastic um place to play in.
- 9:09Speaker 1: It's a it's one of the special places you can
- 9:11Speaker 1: play in the league, for sure. So UM looking forward
- 9:14Speaker 1: to the challenge, and again it's a. It's a really
- 9:16Speaker 1: good team that we're about to go play. The Bills
- 9:19Speaker 1: season has been ended each of the past two years
- 9:21Speaker 1: in January by the Kansas City Chiefs team. Seemingly James
- 9:26Speaker 1: cannot finish Patrick Mahomes in the Chiefs, Andrew, it's been
- 9:31Speaker 1: their calling cards since Patrick Mahomes came their starting quarterback.
- 9:34Speaker 1: And you mentioned that game last year and that stadium
- 9:36Speaker 1: behind me. I remember standing on the chief sideline with
- 9:39Speaker 1: thirteen seconds to go and they're down three, and it's
- 9:42Speaker 1: burned into my memory because nobody was hanging their head,
- 9:44Speaker 1: nobody was panicking, nobody was worried. Mahomes was working the
- 9:47Speaker 1: sideline getting everybody ready. They go down in that thirteen
- 9:51Speaker 1: seconds kick of field and they end up winning it
- 9:52Speaker 1: in overtime. And I was reminiscing about that with some
- 9:54Speaker 1: players in the locker room a little while ago, and
- 9:56Speaker 1: they told me we never panicked in those situations even
- 9:59Speaker 1: in this season because of our fridays with Eric Bienemy.
- 10:02Speaker 1: We spent twenty thirty minutes with him going over these
- 10:05Speaker 1: syreas that maybe may not happen at any point in
- 10:09Speaker 1: this season, but we will be prepared for them if
- 10:12Speaker 1: that's what ends up happening. And they were prepared for
- 10:14Speaker 1: it in the divisional round. They prepared for it the
- 10:16Speaker 1: way things have gone, and it stems from Patrick Mahomes.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Like was talking to Chief safety want Thornhill about a
- 10:22Speaker 1: half hour ago and we were kind of talking about
- 10:23Speaker 1: Gabe Davis and Stefan Diggs and he said they're they're
- 10:26Speaker 1: both number one, but then he also has other options.
- 10:28Speaker 1: But he said, we're used to practicing and training camp
- 10:31Speaker 1: against the only other guy that plays the position like
- 10:33Speaker 1: Josh Allen, and that's Patrick Mahomes. He said, in the secondary,
- 10:36Speaker 1: we have to be ready for this explosive passing attack
- 10:38Speaker 1: because anywhere he is on the field, he can throw
- 10:40Speaker 1: it to any other Green patch of grass on across
- 10:44Speaker 1: the field, so they know from going through camp what
- 10:47Speaker 1: it is like going against Josh Allen. But again he
- 10:49Speaker 1: said stopping him is a different story. Specifically if he
- 10:52Speaker 1: runs the football, he said that is the biggest thing
- 10:55Speaker 1: for us a as as a secondary. Andrew, he said,
- 10:57Speaker 1: we can't come up and try to make a play
- 10:59Speaker 1: and tackle because he's gonna burn a steep. It sounds
- 11:01Speaker 1: a lot like their quarterback Big game, James Palmer there
- 11:06Speaker 1: in Kansas City Live Television. It's always fun coming up next.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Tom Brady says he's frustrated with what we'll tell you
- 11:16Speaker 1: coming up. I think you'll fix NFL now NFL Network,
- 11:28Speaker 1: That is Tom Brady. After the Bucketeers held on and
- 11:31Speaker 1: barely beat the Falcons last week's twenty one to fifteen.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Now they have to move on to Pittsburgh face the
- 11:38Speaker 1: Steelers and mind a way to maybe put a game
- 11:41Speaker 1: away because they couldn't do it last week. I think
- 11:45Speaker 1: we're just gonna work at it every day and you know,
- 11:48Speaker 1: get to be as good as we can possibly be.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I think that you know what we can be, and
- 11:52Speaker 1: compared to other years where I've been here, I don't
- 11:54Speaker 1: think that's really, Um, what a goal is. I think
- 11:58Speaker 1: we've got to maximize our potential. And there's a different team,
- 12:01Speaker 1: different group of guys. I don't think any of us
- 12:04Speaker 1: have played to the well that we're capable of. And um,
- 12:07Speaker 1: you know, we're going to keep pushing at it and
- 12:09Speaker 1: try to put a little pressure on each other to
- 12:11Speaker 1: bring the best out of us. Sarah walshamungoes talking to
- 12:15Speaker 1: Tom Brady earlier inside Now she's outside high there, Sarah
- 12:18Speaker 1: at one book place as Brady speaks of of frustration,
- 12:22Speaker 1: a common refrain. But what is he frustrated about? Now? Well,
- 12:25Speaker 1: let me put it into perspective. Aside from the weather
- 12:28Speaker 1: that's happening here in the Tampa Bay area right now,
- 12:30Speaker 1: it is not all gloom and doom in Tampa. Tom
- 12:33Speaker 1: is a perfectionist, right, so he is going to pick
- 12:35Speaker 1: apart every little thing. And there's a pervading feeling throughout
- 12:39Speaker 1: this entire offense that they've really left a lot of
- 12:41Speaker 1: points out on the field that this offense as a
- 12:43Speaker 1: whole can play better. You heard Tom talk about the
- 12:46Speaker 1: fact that they haven't been out there a lot together
- 12:48Speaker 1: as a unit. There's been injuries, they've been dealing with
- 12:50Speaker 1: Byron Leftwich today told us that he believes that they
- 12:54Speaker 1: are close the offensive corner says, if they can continue
- 12:57Speaker 1: to have guys out there healthy and going left, which
- 13:00Speaker 1: was also asked about Tom's frustration level, because Tom's a guy.
- 13:04Speaker 1: It is wind al mode here in Tampa, and how
- 13:07Speaker 1: frustrated does Tom get when it's new guys and he
- 13:09Speaker 1: has to trust them in left which sort of joke,
- 13:12Speaker 1: he said, he's forty five years old. How's your patients
- 13:15Speaker 1: when you get older? And like now he was kidding
- 13:17Speaker 1: because then he went on to say that when you
- 13:19Speaker 1: see Tom Brady frustrated, and he said, when you see
- 13:22Speaker 1: Tom frustrated on the sidelines, usually, he said, Brady is
- 13:25Speaker 1: frustrated with himself because he is a perfectionist. He always
- 13:28Speaker 1: feels that things can be better, and certainly this offense
- 13:31Speaker 1: shares that mentality Brady. By the way, a lot was
- 13:34Speaker 1: made about his record against the Falcons. He's never lost them,
- 13:36Speaker 1: He's beating him a ton of times. By the way,
- 13:38Speaker 1: he goes into Pittsburgh with a twelve and three record
- 13:41Speaker 1: andrew against those Steelers. Okay, I understand their frustration. I
- 13:44Speaker 1: totally get it here. But the Bucks defense also kind
- 13:49Speaker 1: of let a Falcons team that didn't have Cordarol Patterson
- 13:53Speaker 1: get back in that game. They did, and it's why
- 13:56Speaker 1: in the locker room after that game, the Bucks won,
- 13:58Speaker 1: and they're okay with winning ugly, but they didn't love it.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I mean they were close to pitching a shoutout. They
- 14:03Speaker 1: were up twenty one nothing in the fourth quarter before
- 14:05Speaker 1: the Falcons even scored a point. So no, they did
- 14:07Speaker 1: not feel great about how especially that fourth quarter went.
- 14:10Speaker 1: But there was a litany of injuries, and not to
- 14:12Speaker 1: make excuses, but it was troublesome that at one point
- 14:15Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter and in that second half they
- 14:17Speaker 1: lost three d vs. They lost Carlton Davis, their number
- 14:20Speaker 1: one corner, they lost Sean Murphy Bunty, and they lost
- 14:22Speaker 1: Mike Edwards. So here's the big picture. Sean Murphy Bunty
- 14:25Speaker 1: is probably the biggest question mark and it would not
- 14:28Speaker 1: be surprising if he doesn't go this weekend. He had
- 14:30Speaker 1: an m R and his quad. Those results have not
- 14:32Speaker 1: been shared with us. I can tell you I watched
- 14:35Speaker 1: Carlton Davis at practice today the portion that was open
- 14:37Speaker 1: to the media. He looked okay and that he would
- 14:39Speaker 1: be good to go, and Todd Bowls is downplayed Mike
- 14:41Speaker 1: Edwards situation and believes that he's going to go. So
- 14:44Speaker 1: it looks like of those three guys, Sean Murphy Bunty
- 14:47Speaker 1: might be the only one not playing on the flip side.
- 14:49Speaker 1: The Steelers defense obviously dealing with the massive, massive loss
- 14:53Speaker 1: of t J. Watt right now. And I asked Byron left,
- 14:55Speaker 1: which when you prepare for this Steelers defense, how much
- 14:58Speaker 1: does the defense change without him? And he said, look,
- 15:00Speaker 1: there's no question when a player of that caliber isn't
- 15:02Speaker 1: on the grass, it's a big change. And he said
- 15:04Speaker 1: that's why he is one of the best in the
- 15:06Speaker 1: world and the timely plays that he forces to make happen.
- 15:09Speaker 1: So I think everyone understands the Steelers are dealing with
- 15:12Speaker 1: much more significant issues over there on their defense. And
- 15:15Speaker 1: and this is a Steelers team that has struggled without
- 15:19Speaker 1: Watt oh and eight in games that he is unable
- 15:23Speaker 1: to play Andrews, so they're still trying to come up
- 15:25Speaker 1: with a solution for his absence on that side of
- 15:28Speaker 1: things over multiple seasons, one of which included t J.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Watt and some other starters sitting out. But the fact
- 15:33Speaker 1: is they haven't one without him, Sarah Walsh, They're live
- 15:36Speaker 1: in Tampa's the Bucks get ready. They go up there
- 15:38Speaker 1: and face a rookie quarterback in Kenny Pickett. How about
- 15:41Speaker 1: these stats since head to head with the rookie quarterbacks.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I say Sin is the last guy to do it
- 15:50Speaker 1: with Gino Smith with the Jets Week seven, Oney thirteen.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Gino Smith into the conversation here back when he was
- 15:58Speaker 1: a second round pick out of West Virginia. Mark Ross
- 16:01Speaker 1: back with me, this is not easy here for Kenny Picket.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Odd Bowls defense a rookie quarterback. I mean, last week,
- 16:08Speaker 1: the bills market, this week, this the scheduling gods of
- 16:12Speaker 1: Mike Tomlin did not do him any favors Kenny Pickett
- 16:15Speaker 1: with these last two weeks. And you always hear the
- 16:17Speaker 1: talk about rookie quarterbacks when is the right time to
- 16:20Speaker 1: get them in, and really there is no right time.
- 16:23Speaker 1: And when you look at young guys, young rookies, and
- 16:26Speaker 1: we had Donald McNabb when he was a rookie and
- 16:28Speaker 1: Eli Manning and even year four, they're gonna have some
- 16:31Speaker 1: bad games, you know, they're gonna have their ups and downs,
- 16:33Speaker 1: and those guys struggled even then and turned out to
- 16:37Speaker 1: be great players. So what you really look for in
- 16:40Speaker 1: Kenny Pickett tomorrow the rest of the season are the
- 16:43Speaker 1: other the toughness. Does he have the does he have
- 16:46Speaker 1: the pois? Does he have the moxie? Is he not
- 16:48Speaker 1: afraid of the situation? While he develops the football skills?
- 16:52Speaker 1: So you can really see those signs in your star
- 16:56Speaker 1: quarter your young quarterback if they're gonna be productive, if
- 17:00Speaker 1: the team believes in them. So it's really the aura
- 17:03Speaker 1: of those players that you're really looking for with Kenny Pickett. Look,
- 17:06Speaker 1: tomorrow is gonna be tough for him. They might not
- 17:08Speaker 1: score again or score three points. Didn't score last week,
- 17:11Speaker 1: they might not do it again. But it's all those
- 17:13Speaker 1: other things Andrew that you have to look for and
- 17:15Speaker 1: Kenny Pickett, and last week he showed that he wasn't
- 17:18Speaker 1: afraid and that was his first start. I would expect
- 17:20Speaker 1: to see more of the same of Kenny Pickett. Of
- 17:22Speaker 1: whatever Tampa brings at him, He's gonna keep getting up
- 17:24Speaker 1: and he's gonna keep fighting. Seven consecutive games against teams
- 17:29Speaker 1: that either had a winning record last year or this
- 17:31Speaker 1: currently right now, for Kenny Pickt to open up his
- 17:35Speaker 1: young NFL career. Thank you, Mark Ross. The Packers have
- 17:39Speaker 1: never lost back to back regular season games under mattel Floor.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Something to keep in mind. Also, something to keep in
- 17:45Speaker 1: mind those big offseason purchases we told you about for
- 17:49Speaker 1: six months. Um, can we now look back on some
- 17:53Speaker 1: of them and say their mistakes? Mark Ross will tell
- 17:56Speaker 1: you when the pie kick up the bone running. So
- 18:03Speaker 1: the Broncos played by day night. They have lost their
- 18:07Speaker 1: last six Monday night game. There's also the issue of
- 18:12Speaker 1: Russell Wilson and a shoulder. Let's get more information than
- 18:16Speaker 1: that by going to our guy who lives in Denver
- 18:18Speaker 1: and covers them a lot. But right now James Palmer
- 18:20Speaker 1: is in front of Arrowhead ahead of that game on
- 18:22Speaker 1: Sunday afternoon. What do we know about Russell? Well, we
- 18:27Speaker 1: know he's dealing with this shoulder injury where he had
- 18:28Speaker 1: an injection Andrew and we know that it's a lat
- 18:31Speaker 1: in his shoulder and he's been bothering him now for
- 18:33Speaker 1: roughly two games. Well, he had this extended break here
- 18:36Speaker 1: with the Thursday night game leading into the Monday game,
- 18:38Speaker 1: and he believes his shoulder is getting better each and
- 18:41Speaker 1: every day. Just addressed the media a few minutes ago,
- 18:43Speaker 1: Nathaniel Hackett said he's been very impressed with how Russell
- 18:46Speaker 1: Wilson has worked so hard to get this shoulder as
- 18:49Speaker 1: close as possible. Our estimation is it's not gonna be acent, obviously,
- 18:54Speaker 1: but he has been working to get as close to
- 18:55Speaker 1: it as possible. They're not adjusting practices, I'm told by
- 18:58Speaker 1: any means, and he's not gonna miss any time, but
- 19:00Speaker 1: he does need to get this offense back on track.
- 19:02Speaker 1: With Nathaniel Hackett, and they used this weekend to go
- 19:05Speaker 1: over everything offensively, and they believe just too many negative
- 19:08Speaker 1: plays on first and second down, far too many drops
- 19:11Speaker 1: second in the NFL on drops. They think they're very
- 19:13Speaker 1: good on third down. Russell Wilson has said this, Nathaniel
- 19:16Speaker 1: Hackett has said this, it's just too many third and
- 19:18Speaker 1: longs that they've been in third and short they're fine,
- 19:21Speaker 1: and then flip the script over to the Chargers and
- 19:24Speaker 1: getting after Russell Wilson, and they have really struggled getting
- 19:27Speaker 1: after the quarterback opposite of Khalil mac with Joey Bosa out,
- 19:30Speaker 1: it's really Kyle van Noy. They're trying to get some
- 19:32Speaker 1: of the pressure and it just hasn't been their opposite
- 19:35Speaker 1: of mac Brandon. Staley believes that he wants MC not
- 19:38Speaker 1: to try to put too much pressure on himself, try
- 19:40Speaker 1: not to do too much Andrew while Joey Bosa is out.
- 19:43Speaker 1: They don't want him to do that now and then
- 19:46Speaker 1: expend himself for later in the season. But that game
- 19:49Speaker 1: up front is gonna be interesting with Russell Wilson a
- 19:51Speaker 1: little banged up, absolutely against a Charger team coming off
- 19:54Speaker 1: a huge win this past week. All right, let's move
- 19:57Speaker 1: on to an article right now on NFL dot Com.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Bat Mark Ross wrote, it's really good. It's really good
- 20:04Speaker 1: because we spend entire offseason talking about these huge moves
- 20:08Speaker 1: that will change the fortunes of franchises, and a lot
- 20:12Speaker 1: of them just haven't worked. Now, we go through this
- 20:15Speaker 1: every offseason, Mark, but this past off season was, you know,
- 20:18Speaker 1: in many of our eyes, like the craziest off season
- 20:21Speaker 1: of all time. We're gonna start with Russell Wilson. He
- 20:24Speaker 1: is number one on your list. What's the story there, Well,
- 20:29Speaker 1: you gotta start with Russell, right, just because of the
- 20:31Speaker 1: two million dollars Andrew. So it's not just to play,
- 20:35Speaker 1: but it's the money that you that you're put investing
- 20:38Speaker 1: in him and what you expect to get out of that.
- 20:41Speaker 1: And right now you know Russell Wilson, Russell Wilson, Denver
- 20:44Speaker 1: let offense that's thirty one in the league and scoring.
- 20:47Speaker 1: When you watch them play, they struggle to move the ball.
- 20:50Speaker 1: We've seen the mistakes from the coaching staff and Russell.
- 20:54Speaker 1: And the issue with Russell when I watched him last
- 20:56Speaker 1: year when he was earlier in the season, Russ was cooking,
- 20:59Speaker 1: had the finger injury, came back, did not look the same,
- 21:02Speaker 1: and he looks like that same sort of player. Now
- 21:04Speaker 1: last year was excused because of the injury, but the
- 21:07Speaker 1: vision is not there. He's not seeing the field, he's
- 21:11Speaker 1: not making plays against pressure, and that magical Russ playmaking
- 21:15Speaker 1: ability where he always seems to get out of things
- 21:18Speaker 1: and make big time plays down the field. He's not
- 21:20Speaker 1: that sort of athletic playmaker anymore. So the issues that
- 21:24Speaker 1: I see with Russell I think are going to persist,
- 21:28Speaker 1: and unfortunately for Denver fans, you might have to get
- 21:31Speaker 1: used to how that Denver offense looks right now. You
- 21:33Speaker 1: also have Matt Ryan on that list, who who was
- 21:36Speaker 1: the winning quarterback this past Monday Night and I watched
- 21:39Speaker 1: Matt Ryan mark and I wonder, let's say he had
- 21:42Speaker 1: gone to Cleveland and they could protect him, would he
- 21:46Speaker 1: be better? Is this a protection issue in Indianapolis or
- 21:51Speaker 1: has he lost it off as fastball? Yeah? I thought
- 21:54Speaker 1: Matt Ryan's been cooked for a few years now, Andrew,
- 21:56Speaker 1: And look, Indianapolis is supposed to be the rehab facility
- 21:59Speaker 1: for quarterbacks, right, but they just haven't been rehabbing quarterbacks.
- 22:02Speaker 1: And Carson wentz at Philip Rivers and Matt Ryan. I
- 22:05Speaker 1: thought it just has lost the last few years. He's
- 22:08Speaker 1: never been the most mobile, but twenty one sacks leads
- 22:11Speaker 1: the league even when he's protected. He's got eleven fumbles,
- 22:14Speaker 1: he's got seven interceptions, and it's just not there where
- 22:17Speaker 1: he's seeing the field and can be able to step
- 22:19Speaker 1: in there and make plays like he used to. Any
- 22:21Speaker 1: Fountain's fan will over the last few years the roller
- 22:23Speaker 1: coaster of Matt Ryan and not being able to produce.
- 22:26Speaker 1: So unfortunately, what older quarterbacks that have evaluated my career.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Once they hit the wall, they don't come back. Andrew
- 22:31Speaker 1: also on the list, Allen Robinson, Chandler Jones. It's a
- 22:34Speaker 1: good list. Eight names on it. Recommend everyone check it
- 22:36Speaker 1: out NFL dot com slash Ross Mark Ross keeps receipts.
- 22:41Speaker 1: I don't know if the teams did. Thank you, Mark.
- 22:44Speaker 1: NFL now continues, and we do so by putting the
- 22:47Speaker 1: Rams in the spotlight. How can they fix things they
- 22:49Speaker 1: need to this week before there by that story got
- 22:53Speaker 1: it up. So it's a new era here for the
- 23:02Speaker 1: Carolina Panthers coming up on Sunday. Baker Mayfield like layout,
- 23:05Speaker 1: p J Walker likely in trade deadlines coming up November one.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Christian McCaffrey's got to do head coach, it's Steve Wilkes
- 23:12Speaker 1: on an interim basis, Earth keeps spinning. Then you know
- 23:17Speaker 1: you gotta come up, come to work. You know they're
- 23:19Speaker 1: not canceling the season, so you know every day and
- 23:22Speaker 1: coach Wilkes said it best you gotta win the day. Um,
- 23:24Speaker 1: you're not guaranteed anything in this league, So just about
- 23:27Speaker 1: showing up every day, putting in the right amount of
- 23:29Speaker 1: work and doing everything you can to help your team win.
- 23:33Speaker 1: We can't confirm the Earth keeps spinning man Kayla Burton
- 23:36Speaker 1: here on the rampside and wrap report with some Panther's
- 23:38Speaker 1: perspective as well. Ahead of this one on Sunday. Steve
- 23:41Speaker 1: Wilkes on an interim basis here unpack what David Tepper
- 23:45Speaker 1: said a couple of days ago ian about Wilkes's shot
- 23:47Speaker 1: for the job, and I guess the future here and
- 23:49Speaker 1: moving forward. Yeah, as far as Wilkes's potential future and
- 23:52Speaker 1: really an opportunity to interview for the head coaching job,
- 23:55Speaker 1: would owner David Tepper insinuated is that if they have
- 23:58Speaker 1: a really good end to the season, that they look better,
- 24:00Speaker 1: if they kind of impress more and put a better
- 24:02Speaker 1: product on the field than Steve Wilkes should be able
- 24:05Speaker 1: to get an interview. Interims are almost always interviewed. I
- 24:08Speaker 1: would be surprised if it doesn't happen. It's interesting here, guys,
- 24:12Speaker 1: is that Steve Wilkes came in and immediately fired defensive
- 24:16Speaker 1: coordinator Phil Snow. They got a pretty good defense, but
- 24:19Speaker 1: clearly he is one of the guys that Matt Rule
- 24:21Speaker 1: brought in, a sort of confidant and lieutenant of Matt Rules.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Wilkes wanted to make sure that he had his imprint
- 24:27Speaker 1: on the defense. He has been in the NFL a
- 24:29Speaker 1: very good defensive coordinator. And Al Holcum, who is also
- 24:33Speaker 1: on the defensive staff. He now takes over as the
- 24:35Speaker 1: defensive coordinator, but Wilkes is usually called the plays when
- 24:39Speaker 1: in this situation, I would expect him to call the
- 24:41Speaker 1: place here as well. The main thing is you're going
- 24:44Speaker 1: to see more of the Steve Wilkes product on the field,
- 24:46Speaker 1: but obviously so much of the questions what are they
- 24:49Speaker 1: going to do on offense and the fact that they
- 24:50Speaker 1: have now their h third string quarterback essentially as their
- 24:54Speaker 1: starter makes it a little more challenging. But we'll see
- 24:57Speaker 1: what p J. Walker can end up bringing and trow
- 24:59Speaker 1: McVay admits there are some unknowns there specifically about the defense,
- 25:03Speaker 1: but regardless, here you have back quarterback, you have some
- 25:05Speaker 1: turmoil with the other team. Kle it's a chance for
- 25:08Speaker 1: the Rams of getting much needed win before there by certainly,
- 25:11Speaker 1: and as Ian just mentioned, linebacker Bobby Wagner is expected
- 25:15Speaker 1: to be matched up against p J. Walker, who really
- 25:18Speaker 1: is about to get if he's going to play and
- 25:20Speaker 1: start on Sunday, his third career start. Bobby Wagner also
- 25:23Speaker 1: said that they are still watching tape on Baker Mayfield
- 25:26Speaker 1: in case anything pops up there. But this was a
- 25:29Speaker 1: perfect opportunity for the Rams defense to show up. We
- 25:32Speaker 1: know we've been talking about the Rams offensive struggles with
- 25:35Speaker 1: their injuries on their offensive line, but defensively, Aaron Donald
- 25:39Speaker 1: the three time Defensive Player of the Year. He has
- 25:41Speaker 1: already had four sacks this season, two coming in last
- 25:44Speaker 1: game against the Cowboys. Bobby Wagner also the only other
- 25:47Speaker 1: Rams player with multiple season sacks right now. And you
- 25:50Speaker 1: know who also got his first career sack? Do you know,
- 25:54Speaker 1: Jalen Ramsey. Yeah, he got his first career sag. Aaron
- 25:57Speaker 1: Donald went right up to him right after he took
- 26:00Speaker 1: down Cooper Russian. He said, was that your first sack?
- 26:03Speaker 1: And he goes, yeah, man, he was high. And Bobby
- 26:05Speaker 1: Wagner is laughing yesterday in the press conference, not really
- 26:09Speaker 1: knowing that that was his first career sack. So they're
- 26:11Speaker 1: celebrating that. But as Ian mentioned, they're going up against
- 26:14Speaker 1: really a third string quarterback here, and they are ranked
- 26:16Speaker 1: last the Panthers in total offense. Is a perfect opportunity
- 26:20Speaker 1: for this defense to step up given their offensive struggles.
- 26:23Speaker 1: One other thing I'd like to add here in the
- 26:25Speaker 1: offensive side of things with the Rams, big question has
- 26:28Speaker 1: been about what Odell Beckham Jr. Whereas he at in
- 26:31Speaker 1: this free agency or excuse me as he is a
- 26:33Speaker 1: free agent and that conversation, and head coach On McVey
- 26:36Speaker 1: addressed it, saying that he loves Odell Beckham Jr. He
- 26:39Speaker 1: has had plenty of conversations and dialogues with him, and
- 26:42Speaker 1: he says his last or the final um offer that
- 26:47Speaker 1: he just had may not be their last one. And
- 26:50Speaker 1: we'll stay tuned on that one. Is the Rams of
- 26:51Speaker 1: to get Van Jefferson back as well after the bye,
- 26:54Speaker 1: which again would be next week. Thank you and thank
- 26:57Speaker 1: you Kayla Rams and the Panthers coming up on that Sunday.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Time for one more thing before we go about redecorating
- 27:06Speaker 1: in Miami. Straight ahead, it is a game day and
- 27:15Speaker 1: there's no baseball. There's football tonight. It's the Commanders, It's
- 27:20Speaker 1: the Bears. It's NFL Plus Prime Video. It's Week six.
- 27:25Speaker 1: It has arrived. Watch it, love it. Remember one more
- 27:30Speaker 1: thing before we go, I and Rapp reports. Going first, yesterday,
- 27:36Speaker 1: Steven colleague Cameron Wolf brought us some important Dolphins ping pong.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Turns out that Mike McDaniel said they took the ping
- 27:42Speaker 1: pong table out so they could really focus on the
- 27:45Speaker 1: next game rather than have some sort of distraction. Well,
- 27:49Speaker 1: I re Hill said today that actually he ordered a
- 27:52Speaker 1: special Dolphins ping pong table to replace the previous one.
- 27:57Speaker 1: So they're getting a new ping pong table. They won't
- 27:59Speaker 1: use it as a distraction. True story. Ping pong is
- 28:01Speaker 1: my best sport. It's my best sport as well. I'm amazing,
- 28:04Speaker 1: Randy A tone of those not walking through that door.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Tom Pella Sero. One more thing, shout out to Blink
- 28:12Speaker 1: two for scheduling their first US concert with Tom DeLong
- 28:16Speaker 1: in the band in a decade right here in the
- 28:18Speaker 1: Twin Cities, and more important doing so the week after
- 28:22Speaker 1: the NFL Draft end. So Ian market down on your
- 28:26Speaker 1: calendar Thursday May fourth, you're doing the news on Total Access.
- 28:30Speaker 1: I'll be at the rock. Are you gonna be up
- 28:31Speaker 1: on stage? And we'll Tom DeLong bring the Aliens. That's
- 28:34Speaker 1: what I want to know. Will there be UFOs? No,
- 28:38Speaker 1: we now know they exist thanks to him. There you go, Kla.
- 28:42Speaker 1: One more thing, all right, I got the rams. Shout
- 28:45Speaker 1: out Glendale Hoover High School in California. These two but
- 28:49Speaker 1: Tima and Nellie Fatima is a junior. Nellie is a
- 28:54Speaker 1: freshman on the right. There. They joined the press conference
- 28:57Speaker 1: yesterday asking Bobby Wagner questions, Sean McVeigh questions. They were
- 29:01Speaker 1: just fantastic, So shout out those guys. Bobby Wagner was
- 29:05Speaker 1: asked about his favorite non football memory. It's his basketball memory,
- 29:09Speaker 1: dropping twenty six points at Colony High School in California,
- 29:13Speaker 1: Bobby Wagger great things in the community, not all of
- 29:16Speaker 1: them promoted, but here. Pretty cool to have a couple
- 29:18Speaker 1: of students journalists there at the ramp of rest. Scott.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Backing up to our top story, Tom Pella Sero believed
- 29:24Speaker 1: in blank and aliens. I believe in one of the two.
- 29:30Speaker 1: You gotta figure out which say. NFL Now is a
