- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome back. It's Jack sayam.
- 0:18Speaker 2: It's the most wonderful time of the year, not Christmas,
- 0:21Speaker 2: but football is back with us as we get excited.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Training camp in full swing. We're in day three here
- 0:27Speaker 2: at the Miller Electric Center. That's a live look. I'm
- 0:29Speaker 2: kind Nannie Stevens here with you, Brian Sexton, John Oser
- 0:32Speaker 2: are with me. But let's get into our big things
- 0:34Speaker 2: right away, because we've been waiting for football to back,
- 0:37Speaker 2: and it finally is so big thing.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Number one is going to be in command.
- 0:40Speaker 2: This team really outperforming expectations last year.
- 0:44Speaker 1: But by no mean are they resting on their laurels.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Head coach Liam Cohen says they're still very much in
- 0:49Speaker 2: attack mode.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I mean, we haven't done anything to rest on our
- 0:53Speaker 3: you know, loyals here. You know, it's just it's just
- 0:56Speaker 3: not we're not in a place to hang out and
- 0:58Speaker 3: just kind of right. It's everything we're doing is trying
- 1:02Speaker 3: to attack an edge. Last year was about finding an
- 1:05Speaker 3: edge and creating an edge, and now we are attacking
- 1:09Speaker 3: these edges with a relentless pursuit. And at the end
- 1:13Speaker 3: of the day, we know we want to go play
- 1:19Speaker 3: anywhere anytime. Anybody doesn't matter, and our mindset is we
- 1:24Speaker 3: got to go prove it and go earn it because
- 1:27Speaker 3: consistency is the truest measure of performance at the end
- 1:30Speaker 3: of the day. And there's a lot of guys in
- 1:32Speaker 3: this locker room that when I took this job of said, man,
- 1:35Speaker 3: you know they brought that up and how do we
- 1:39Speaker 3: become a consistent, respected organization.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Welcome back to as fans. Kai here with Brian and John.
- 1:46Speaker 2: We're excited to be back and talking football once again.
- 1:49Speaker 2: And as mentioned, I think this has been the mentality
- 1:52Speaker 2: all off season. But nobody here is complacent. Nobody's excited
- 1:55Speaker 2: about the AFC South crown. I don't think I've heard
- 1:57Speaker 2: about it since that game. They're very much focus on
- 2:01Speaker 2: not repeating, but being better.
- 2:03Speaker 4: You know, we were in a meeting last year where
- 2:06Speaker 4: Liam stood up and shared his standard for this team. Right,
- 2:10Speaker 4: we'll compete at a championship level every day to improve ourselves,
- 2:15Speaker 4: our organization in our city. And when I hear him
- 2:18Speaker 4: talking John, I hear him saying today, right, yesterday we
- 2:24Speaker 4: were AFC South champions and we were in the playoffs.
- 2:27Speaker 5: Today, what are we doing? And then tomorrow we'll say
- 2:31Speaker 5: what are we doing? Today.
- 2:32Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, you get weary of hearing about respect
- 2:37Speaker 6: because you hear all the time. They earned respect last year, sure,
- 2:42Speaker 6: but guess what in the NFL you have to earn
- 2:44Speaker 6: it again. They've earned respect here in the past that
- 2:46Speaker 6: you have to keep earning it. And again.
- 2:51Speaker 7: It's hard to put this sort.
- 2:53Speaker 6: Of thing into an anecdote that you can tell people
- 2:56Speaker 6: and have them believe, oh, they are focused, But if
- 2:59Speaker 6: you've been in a while, you can feel it and
- 3:02Speaker 6: the obsession.
- 3:03Speaker 5: Yeah, that's a good one.
- 3:04Speaker 7: All off season is a positive.
- 3:06Speaker 6: When I say that, it's been in everybody's walk every
- 3:10Speaker 6: time you talk to Liam, from the time I talked
- 3:12Speaker 6: to him, I don't know, two or three weeks after
- 3:14Speaker 6: the division, after the playoff game.
- 3:16Speaker 7: I forget exactly it was, but he was already. Look,
- 3:20Speaker 7: we didn't.
- 3:21Speaker 6: Everything has to be in front, because if you think
- 3:25Speaker 6: about last year at all, you're way behind. And I
- 3:28Speaker 6: don't worry about motivation or focus or anything for this Dame.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Well, listen, you've seen it in the ozone. You probably
- 3:33Speaker 4: heard it from fans when you run into them the publics.
- 3:36Speaker 4: It's twenty seventeen was a one off. Twenty twenty two
- 3:39Speaker 4: was a one off. Twenty twenty five was a one off.
- 3:41Speaker 4: What's different about this team and you just heard it
- 3:44Speaker 4: from Liam right there. It isn't about just winning last year.
- 3:48Speaker 4: It's about winning every year and those consistent teams, the
- 3:51Speaker 4: New England's, the Baltimore's of the world, Pittsburgh, Denver.
- 3:56Speaker 5: You have to win every year to be the team
- 3:58Speaker 5: that you want to be.
- 3:59Speaker 6: There's a lot of re and this is different, but
- 4:01Speaker 6: we've got four months to talk about this three, so
- 4:04Speaker 6: we'll get into it.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Let's talk about one of the other most popular offseason stories,
- 4:07Speaker 2: and that's Travis Hunter's rehab process. High Flying is our
- 4:11Speaker 2: number two big thing today because Travis Hunter very much
- 4:14Speaker 2: out there doing his thing on the field right now.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Head coach Theamcone talked a little bit about what they've
- 4:18Speaker 2: seen from him through the rehab process in the offseason
- 4:20Speaker 2: and now in training camp.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Really looking at the reps where he needs to be
- 4:26Speaker 3: now right, how do we balance his reps here knowing
- 4:29Speaker 3: that we're trying to ease him in, but he also
- 4:31Speaker 3: at some point needs to get double the amount that
- 4:34Speaker 3: a normal player gets, and so what does that ramp
- 4:37Speaker 3: up look like? And we have it all kind of
- 4:39Speaker 3: mapped out till the mock game is really where we
- 4:43Speaker 3: have it. I mean on every single practice schedule. I mean,
- 4:46Speaker 3: he's his reps are highlighted and here, I mean like
- 4:52Speaker 3: where he's in, what plays he's in, where he's at
- 4:55Speaker 3: on the field. I mean, we've been extremely intentional about it.
- 5:00Speaker 2: John Head, coach, front office, They've all been crystal clear.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Travis Hunter's is still gonna play on both sides of
- 5:05Speaker 2: the football. We've seen it in practice already. He's involved
- 5:08Speaker 2: in both groups. He switches throughout the practices, whether he's
- 5:11Speaker 2: with wide receivers or he's with dbs. What have you
- 5:14Speaker 2: seen from in the off season, because he does look
- 5:16Speaker 2: noticeably different.
- 5:16Speaker 6: Yeah, it's funny because there's almost like these multiple opinions
- 5:22Speaker 6: of Travis Hunter, and that because he didn't play after
- 5:26Speaker 6: Week seven last year, for the public, he's still very
- 5:29Speaker 6: much an incomplete story. And I get the idea from
- 5:32Speaker 6: O's own questions, from listening to fans.
- 5:34Speaker 7: That there's story.
- 5:35Speaker 6: There's sort of an assumption on a lot of fans
- 5:37Speaker 6: of wealth he's just gonna be this, or he's just
- 5:41Speaker 6: gonna be this, and maybe he's not gonna be what
- 5:44Speaker 6: they thought. That's nothing like what you hear here. You're
- 5:48Speaker 6: from people who've seen him. I get the skepticism because
- 5:52Speaker 6: we haven't seen it yet, But yeah, I think what's different.
- 5:56Speaker 6: He's bigger, they say he's faster, he or he's just
- 5:59Speaker 6: as fast, And you know, guys, I it's hard to
- 6:06Speaker 6: express correctly how good they think he is going to
- 6:11Speaker 6: be this year and what an impact they think he's
- 6:13Speaker 6: going to have on both sides of the ball. If
- 6:15Speaker 6: they're right, this turns into a much different story in
- 6:19Speaker 6: September than it is right now, where there's still skepticism nationally.
- 6:23Speaker 4: I heard he had a ten pounds of muscle and
- 6:26Speaker 4: he ran twenty two point six miles per hour.
- 6:29Speaker 1: That'll deal.
- 6:30Speaker 4: When I heard that, that was that was all I
- 6:32Speaker 4: needed to understand that he's ready to go this season.
- 6:36Speaker 4: My first observation of him when they drafted him, John
- 6:40Speaker 4: was he's.
- 6:40Speaker 5: Not very big. Right.
- 6:41Speaker 4: You wonder how a guy is going to play on
- 6:43Speaker 4: both sides of the ball and remain on the field.
- 6:46Speaker 4: How durable can a guy who's one hundred and eighty
- 6:49Speaker 4: seven pounds, right, How durable can he be? And last
- 6:53Speaker 4: year I think you saw a little bit of that.
- 6:56Speaker 4: This year you see a guy who's pretty much so
- 6:59Speaker 4: far doing what he.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Wants to do. He's jumping, exploding, running fast.
- 7:06Speaker 4: I see him on both sides of the ball, making
- 7:08Speaker 4: plays in two days of practice. I think the ten
- 7:11Speaker 4: pounds is a significant storyline for him because listen to
- 7:15Speaker 4: the word on him was he's just a natural athlete.
- 7:17Speaker 5: This was not a gym guy. This was not a
- 7:19Speaker 5: guy that lived in the weight room.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Well he did this offseason because that's the only place
- 7:23Speaker 4: he could be. And the result is the guy who's
- 7:26Speaker 4: ten pounds bigger, just as faster, just as fast. And
- 7:30Speaker 4: I'm excited to see how that translates. I don't think
- 7:33Speaker 4: we're going to see him in the preseason, but I'm excited
- 7:35Speaker 4: on opening day.
- 7:36Speaker 5: To see how that translates.
- 7:38Speaker 6: I'm not sure I've ever covered a team with an
- 7:40Speaker 6: offense in quite the situation this team is. I've got
- 7:43Speaker 6: a lot of good offenses. I covered Peyton's Colts for
- 7:45Speaker 6: ten years, and this team's had some good offenses. But
- 7:49Speaker 6: this was what one of the top five or six
- 7:51Speaker 6: offenses in the league at the end of last year,
- 7:53Speaker 6: right without him, Do you think Brian Thomas was as
- 7:55Speaker 6: good as he could be during that stretch.
- 7:58Speaker 1: No, he can be better.
- 8:00Speaker 7: He didn't have Travis Hunter.
- 8:01Speaker 6: Yeah, going into last season, who would you have told
- 8:05Speaker 6: me their two best offensive players were going to be
- 8:07Speaker 6: last season Brian Thomas Jr.
- 8:09Speaker 5: And seven and twelve.
- 8:11Speaker 6: Maybe, So the explosiveness that this team could add if
- 8:15Speaker 6: those two guys are what they've looked like, wait and see,
- 8:22Speaker 6: but it could be fun.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Our final big thing today is going to be game
- 8:24Speaker 2: prep because the other story is Trevor Lawrence really coming
- 8:28Speaker 2: into his own the back half of last season.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Can that continue?
- 8:31Speaker 2: From what we've seen, he's very invested in taking this
- 8:34Speaker 2: offense to the next level.
- 8:36Speaker 8: I think just the mental side and staying sharp on
- 8:40Speaker 8: everything so I can play fast like I was at
- 8:42Speaker 8: the end of the season. And the chemistry and just
- 8:44Speaker 8: the rapport with me and the skill guys is so important.
- 8:47Speaker 8: And just really tapping into that all throughout training camp
- 8:50Speaker 8: and making sure that we're on the same page. Because
- 8:52Speaker 8: you saw when we started clicking at the end of
- 8:54Speaker 8: the last season, you know how efficient and how sharp
- 8:57Speaker 8: we were and some.
- 8:58Speaker 5: Of the players were able to make.
- 8:59Speaker 8: So just start and that now and trying to practice
- 9:02Speaker 8: like that every day, you know, so we can start
- 9:04Speaker 8: the season that way and not take a few weeks
- 9:06Speaker 8: to get there.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Brian, we've seen it and flashes before.
- 9:09Speaker 2: We know he has the talent, but he really feels
- 9:11Speaker 2: like the back half of last season he put it
- 9:13Speaker 2: all together. And the story will be can this continue
- 9:16Speaker 2: into a new season? All signs points yes, you said it.
- 9:21Speaker 5: The ownership.
- 9:22Speaker 4: Right just before we came on the air, they were
- 9:24Speaker 4: doing a little walk throughout here and they ran a
- 9:27Speaker 4: double route to the left side, and you had Parker
- 9:29Speaker 4: Washington and Bacial Tuton, and afterward there was some sort
- 9:33Speaker 4: of confusion, and it wasn't Edgar Bennett and Dad Morton
- 9:36Speaker 4: and Grant Udinski who went out to make the corrections.
- 9:39Speaker 4: It was Trevor who went out and had a conversation
- 9:41Speaker 4: with both Facial and with Parker, and they all got
- 9:45Speaker 4: together and as they walked back to the huddle, Head
- 9:47Speaker 4: started to nod.
- 9:48Speaker 5: That's the kind of ownership.
- 9:50Speaker 4: If you're watching the practice field today, you're probably not
- 9:52Speaker 4: gonna see that, but it happens on every single play.
- 9:56Speaker 4: John last year the offense was such a revelation to
- 9:59Speaker 4: him because it was so completely different than what he
- 10:02Speaker 4: had done in his previous seasons. Now you can tell
- 10:05Speaker 4: that he understands what Grant is asking him to do
- 10:09Speaker 4: and what the offense requires him to do and is
- 10:13Speaker 4: able to translate that to the players.
- 10:15Speaker 7: Yeah, it's he's always had I hate the word ceiling
- 10:20Speaker 7: and floor because they're over years. I don't go ahead
- 10:22Speaker 7: and use him.
- 10:23Speaker 6: You always knew how high his ceiling was. H He
- 10:28Speaker 6: played really well at the end of last season.
- 10:30Speaker 7: But you get the idea that even if he even.
- 10:35Speaker 6: When he's not as good as he was late last season,
- 10:39Speaker 6: there's no doubt that he's going to be a very
- 10:41Speaker 6: good NFL quarterback going forward. There now it's gonna be
- 10:47Speaker 6: you know, some peaks and high points that he he
- 10:53Speaker 6: is miles ahead mentally from where he was this time
- 10:56Speaker 6: last year and early last season. He was all already
- 11:00Speaker 6: really good mentally in this offense. With the things we
- 11:03Speaker 6: talked about earlier with Travis, with with BTJ, and with
- 11:06Speaker 6: Trevor's awareness in this offense, this could be the year
- 11:13Speaker 6: where this offense as good as it was last year.
- 11:16Speaker 6: I'm not sure if even fans and observers really watching
- 11:19Speaker 6: this team realized the jump that this thing could take
- 11:22Speaker 6: because of those three guys.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Highest scoring offense in Jaguars history, and that says a
- 11:25Speaker 4: lot because you and I covered that team with Jimmy Keenan,
- 11:29Speaker 4: Fred James Stewart, Kyle Brady.
- 11:31Speaker 5: I mean that that.
- 11:32Speaker 4: Team never averaged more than twenty five points, and this
- 11:35Speaker 4: team was over twenty eight.
- 11:36Speaker 7: I think about last year early.
- 11:40Speaker 5: We all watched it.
- 11:41Speaker 6: This was not a very high functioning offense. At the
- 11:44Speaker 6: beginning of last year, they knew it wasn't gonna be
- 11:46Speaker 6: Liam says, this is a complicated scheme. All the pre
- 11:48Speaker 6: snap stuff that got worked out late. A lot of
- 11:53Speaker 6: that should be gone, you know, the stuff that they
- 11:56Speaker 6: had to get through. It's gonna get interesting. I mean this,
- 12:00Speaker 6: if they're healthy, this offense could be.
- 12:03Speaker 7: A big story in the NFL this year.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Keeping Grant Yudinsky as well, who went out on head
- 12:07Speaker 2: coaching interviews, comes back. You keep both your coordinators, actually,
- 12:09Speaker 2: which is some continuity we haven't seen around here in
- 12:12Speaker 2: a while.
- 12:12Speaker 1: So all signs points to good things.
- 12:14Speaker 4: And the story yesterday was that he's going to call
- 12:17Speaker 4: plays in the preseason. The opportunity is for him to
- 12:21Speaker 4: be the play caller, which is only more development for
- 12:23Speaker 4: Grant Udinsky. I'm excited to watch that in August. The
- 12:26Speaker 4: good news is the coordinators are back. The better news
- 12:28Speaker 4: is that you wanted them back.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Yes we did, We all did say with us here
- 12:34Speaker 1: on jag Zam.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Coming up, we're gonna tell you what we've seen through
- 12:36Speaker 2: the first couple of days of training camp and what
- 12:37Speaker 2: position groups you're gonna want to watch the next couple
- 12:40Speaker 2: of weeks. Welcome back to jag Zam, brought to you
- 12:51Speaker 2: by Field to Auto Group, Jacksonville's premiere luxury Auto group,
- 12:55Speaker 2: and we're excited to be at day three of train camp.
- 13:00Speaker 3: What he brings to this team, I don't think any
- 13:02Speaker 3: of us are going to see throughout the entire training camp, honestly,
- 13:06Speaker 3: I mean, until we play tackle football, it's going to
- 13:10Speaker 3: be very difficult for all of us here to gain
- 13:14Speaker 3: a true appreciation for who he is and what he does.
- 13:17Speaker 3: I've seen it, so I do appreciate his skill set
- 13:20Speaker 3: and what he brings, but just as a pro, I mean,
- 13:23Speaker 3: he's a good dude. He doesn't say a ton, but
- 13:26Speaker 3: he's tough. I mean he's he's one of those glass eaters,
- 13:30Speaker 3: you know he is. I mean he's going to run
- 13:31Speaker 3: through a wall for his teammates, for his coaches for
- 13:34Speaker 3: this organization when the time comes and you know, just
- 13:38Speaker 3: pleas to see I mean, he was so down. I
- 13:40Speaker 3: mean it was a frustrating time when you get here
- 13:43Speaker 3: and get hurt on the first day. So I think
- 13:45Speaker 3: he was just pleased to be able to get out here,
- 13:47Speaker 3: be with his teammates, take some coaching points, and knowing
- 13:51Speaker 3: that the best the Sea Rod will not be seen
- 13:53Speaker 3: until the pads come on and we play tackle.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Coach Conen talking about your one free agent addition, Chris
- 13:59Speaker 2: Rodriguez running back. I don't know if I've heard glass
- 14:02Speaker 2: eater before, but that does sound pretty tough. John.
- 14:05Speaker 7: It's tough.
- 14:05Speaker 6: And this is sort of the hidden change of the
- 14:11Speaker 6: offseason that I think a lot of fans are really
- 14:14Speaker 6: concerned because Travis Dtn was a guy there, but who's
- 14:17Speaker 6: familiar with the style, and you can see it. I mean,
- 14:22Speaker 6: Chris Rodriguez is a thick, strong guy. They believe Brian
- 14:27Speaker 6: that this is going to be a more efficient running
- 14:29Speaker 6: attack on and this is not a short yardage, third
- 14:33Speaker 6: down running back Chris Rodriguez. There is a little bit
- 14:35Speaker 6: of oh, he's big, so he's going to be the guy.
- 14:37Speaker 6: They turn around a hand the ball to on third
- 14:39Speaker 6: and fourth down. I'd be shocked if he doesn't play
- 14:41Speaker 6: on first downs. They want him getting them into second
- 14:46Speaker 6: and six and second and five situations, whereas last year
- 14:49Speaker 6: they were in a lot of second and eight and
- 14:50Speaker 6: second and seven early. Those couple of yards are the
- 14:53Speaker 6: reason he's here. It's going to get them in better,
- 14:55Speaker 6: more consistent later down in distance.
- 14:59Speaker 7: They they believe this is a huge addition.
- 15:01Speaker 4: Listen, he had five games last year for the Commanders
- 15:04Speaker 4: where he had at least ten carries and averaged five
- 15:08Speaker 4: yards per carry. I mean, ten carries for fifty yards
- 15:11Speaker 4: doesn't seem like a lot when you look at the
- 15:13Speaker 4: big numbers that a guy like a Travis etn or
- 15:15Speaker 4: a stake one Barkley could put up at times. But
- 15:18Speaker 4: in a rotation, it puts you in that position where
- 15:21Speaker 4: you're bringing the safety down into the box because all
- 15:23Speaker 4: of a sudden, it's there's twenty four coming. We better
- 15:25Speaker 4: come up and play good defense. Just one other story
- 15:27Speaker 4: to share, and I wrote this the other day. I
- 15:30Speaker 4: talked to Gerald Ingram on the sidelines, and Gerald was
- 15:32Speaker 4: the running backs coach here in the early days, and
- 15:34Speaker 4: he was with Tom Coughlin with the Giants. He had
- 15:36Speaker 4: Tiki Barber in two thousand and six, and Tiki Barbarer
- 15:39Speaker 4: announced late in the year that he was leaving that
- 15:41Speaker 4: he was done, and people in New York were worried
- 15:43Speaker 4: because Tiki Barber was a Pro Bowl. But the next
- 15:46Speaker 4: year they had Derrick Ward and Brandon Jacobs and Maud
- 15:50Speaker 4: Bradshaw combined for eighteen hundred yards rushing, and the next
- 15:56Speaker 4: year after that twenty five hundred yards. They got better
- 16:00Speaker 4: by committee as opposed to the feature back, and by
- 16:03Speaker 4: the way, they won a Super Bowl in those first
- 16:05Speaker 4: two years after Tiki Barber left. This can work, and
- 16:08Speaker 4: it can work in a very big way if all
- 16:11Speaker 4: the guys in the room buy into what their role
- 16:13Speaker 4: is and then compete. The one thing Gerald said is
- 16:16Speaker 4: that none of the guys wanted to come off the
- 16:18Speaker 4: field because they knew the guy behind him was going
- 16:20Speaker 4: to come on and attack it just like they were.
- 16:23Speaker 4: It created this dynamic in that Giant's running back room
- 16:26Speaker 4: that Gerald was just amazed at, and you can have
- 16:28Speaker 4: that here.
- 16:29Speaker 2: That's clearly what they're focused on as having that committee
- 16:32Speaker 2: approach at running back at least, and we.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Saw it last year.
- 16:35Speaker 2: They came in and They were very clear about that,
- 16:36Speaker 2: and the players that bought into that stayed. Even Travessey
- 16:39Speaker 2: Tienna in his final year very much bought into that concept.
- 16:42Speaker 2: They ended up trading Tank Bigsby out as well because
- 16:45Speaker 2: he didn't seem like he was really comfortable with that role.
- 16:47Speaker 4: Committee's the best way to describe it. But competitive is
- 16:52Speaker 4: the word that Gerald Ingram said. They competed for every
- 16:56Speaker 4: answer in the meeting rooms. They competed on the practice
- 17:00Speaker 4: field because they knew they wanted the ball because the
- 17:03Speaker 4: other guys did too.
- 17:04Speaker 6: And to show you, I mean, I love when Liam
- 17:07Speaker 6: talks about the running game at this time of year,
- 17:09Speaker 6: because every coach knows this, but Liam is very upfront
- 17:13Speaker 6: about it. They're like, look, we can know about the
- 17:15Speaker 6: run all we want right now, but you decide nothing
- 17:19Speaker 6: until you start hitting. And really, the way the NFL
- 17:21Speaker 6: is these days, you see a little bit in camp,
- 17:25Speaker 6: but the way they tackle in practice is not really
- 17:28Speaker 6: what it is during the game. You'll start seeing Chris
- 17:30Speaker 6: Rodriguez impact when it matters in the regular season. So
- 17:36Speaker 6: don't you know, if you're watching a practice, oh, it
- 17:39Speaker 6: didn't look that good.
- 17:40Speaker 7: What you see out here with him isn't what he is.
- 17:43Speaker 5: They're really excited about him, which is why you should
- 17:45Speaker 5: be too.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Talk about some other of the competition, some of the
- 17:49Speaker 2: groups with a lot of competition in them. Obviously, we've
- 17:52Speaker 2: been talking about what we've seen from the wide receivers
- 17:55Speaker 2: and how we haven't even seen some of the best
- 17:57Speaker 2: out of them what we have so far. Also had
- 17:59Speaker 2: Zay Jones in the week to talk to the team.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Some of these rookies have been very impressive. Josh Cameron
- 18:05Speaker 2: had a great catch yesterday, the rookie out of Baylor.
- 18:08Speaker 2: So and obviously Parker Parker Washington, Washington, I can't forget him.
- 18:12Speaker 2: He's going into a contract year as well, so he's
- 18:14Speaker 2: gonna want to prove himself whether they get.
- 18:15Speaker 1: That deal done early or not. He's turning into your
- 18:18Speaker 1: number one option.
- 18:19Speaker 5: Say to catch he made yesterday over here.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean every day it's a Parker Washington day.
- 18:24Speaker 4: At five foot ten, he can jump as high as
- 18:27Speaker 4: anybody in that receiver's room. John he to me is
- 18:31Speaker 4: the X factor this year because he's a guy that
- 18:33Speaker 4: always wants to prove himself and this year he has to.
- 18:35Speaker 5: This is a.
- 18:36Speaker 4: Contract year for him. He was maybe your most important
- 18:39Speaker 4: receiver down the stretch. Last year, I thought he's catching
- 18:42Speaker 4: the Denver game for a first down. The first Jaguars
- 18:45Speaker 4: first down, turned everything on for the offense out at
- 18:48Speaker 4: Mile High Stadium. I'm this group, in particular with Parker Washington.
- 18:53Speaker 4: They're like the running backs. They're gonna have to compete
- 18:55Speaker 4: for everything.
- 18:55Speaker 6: He's reached that point where you expect him to do things,
- 19:00Speaker 6: things that make you smile when you see it, and
- 19:05Speaker 6: and last year when he did, you're like, oh, well,
- 19:06Speaker 6: look at Parker Washington. Now he does it so often
- 19:09Speaker 6: even in practice. He's so consistent.
- 19:13Speaker 7: Trust Parker, trust to Kobe. You know what those two
- 19:17Speaker 7: guys are.
- 19:18Speaker 6: We've already talked about BTJ and Travis Josh Cameron and CJ.
- 19:22Speaker 6: Williams are very interesting because those are two eight round picks. Brian,
- 19:28Speaker 6: we've been around this so long around here that you
- 19:31Speaker 6: almost assume for twenty five years when they drafted a
- 19:33Speaker 6: ride receiver late, it's like, well, they're trying again. It's
- 19:36Speaker 6: not gonna work, yeah, because it never worked. Now, all
- 19:39Speaker 6: of a sudden, you got Parker Washington six round pick.
- 19:42Speaker 6: Both of these guys, Cameron and Williams, they think and play,
- 19:46Speaker 6: and I don't know what that number means for this year,
- 19:49Speaker 6: but they're not overly worried about depth at that position.
- 19:54Speaker 7: If those two guys are what they're showing already.
- 19:57Speaker 4: And we're gonna get a chance to see a lot
- 19:59Speaker 4: of them in the preseason because we're not going to
- 20:00Speaker 4: see the starters. I mean, if if what Liam said
- 20:03Speaker 4: last year about playing starters in the preseason is correct,
- 20:05Speaker 4: I don't think you should expect to see much, if
- 20:07Speaker 4: at all, of them. So here, all of a sudden,
- 20:09Speaker 4: Now you got Josh Cameron Tie who they brought in
- 20:12Speaker 4: also as a punt return You got Parker Washington, who
- 20:15Speaker 4: set the franchise record last year for punt returns for
- 20:18Speaker 4: a touchdown. And you might have a rookie we'll see
- 20:22Speaker 4: in August what they think of this year.
- 20:24Speaker 6: They would love him to beat him out, but he's
- 20:26Speaker 6: gonna have to beat him out because Parker's really I mean, but.
- 20:32Speaker 4: He's a guy, because Parker's in a contract year. You
- 20:35Speaker 4: need to see because if Parker ends up playing somewhere
- 20:37Speaker 4: else in twenty twenty seven, you need a punt returner.
- 20:40Speaker 4: But if Josh Cameron can do what he did on
- 20:42Speaker 4: the practice field yesterday, make a catch here and there,
- 20:44Speaker 4: and be a valuable guy on special teams.
- 20:48Speaker 5: These guys are going to contribute.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Josh Cameron's also a bigger, more physical wide receiver, which
- 20:53Speaker 2: we haven't seen a ton of. I mean they tried
- 20:54Speaker 2: to do that, you know, with Tim Patrick a little
- 20:56Speaker 2: bit last year, but he's a little bit more physical,
- 20:58Speaker 2: which is Somethingbviously Parker Washington's physical, but he has to
- 21:02Speaker 2: kind of jump up there to get it. So Josh
- 21:03Speaker 2: Cameron a little bit of a bigger body. So another
- 21:06Speaker 2: group I think is going to be super competitive this
- 21:08Speaker 2: year is going to be the defensive back group because
- 21:10Speaker 2: there's just a lot of talent there. I don't know
- 21:11Speaker 2: what it's going to shake out as, but a lot
- 21:13Speaker 2: of those guys some they did deal with injury last year,
- 21:15Speaker 2: so Jordan lewis working his way back in. Eric Murray
- 21:17Speaker 2: had an injury at one point, and of course we
- 21:20Speaker 2: didn't see Caleb Bransaw the rookie last year, so this
- 21:22Speaker 2: is essentially his rookie season because he went out early
- 21:25Speaker 2: in training camp last year in the offseason program. So
- 21:28Speaker 2: that's another group that I have my eye on.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Well then, all right, so let's bring the Travis Hunter
- 21:32Speaker 4: conversation back so that yes, I keep going back to
- 21:35Speaker 4: the Rams game his last game last year, that third
- 21:38Speaker 4: down play where he ran with DeVante Adams who was
- 21:40Speaker 4: having a magnificent day for the Rams, and he ran
- 21:43Speaker 4: the route for him. I mean, his footwork was so exquisite.
- 21:46Speaker 4: We've heard about his ball skills, John, but his footwork
- 21:49Speaker 4: was excellent, and he's a guy that he can play
- 21:53Speaker 4: at that kind of a level for you. Well, all
- 21:55Speaker 4: of a sudden, the secondary is completely different this year.
- 21:58Speaker 6: If there is a position group where they might be
- 22:00Speaker 6: a lot better very quickly, it's the secondary. Caleb Ransaw
- 22:06Speaker 6: is going to push Eric Murray. I don't know how
- 22:09Speaker 6: that plays out. It sort of doesn't matter how it
- 22:12Speaker 6: plays out, because you're going to play Antonio Johnson, Murray
- 22:17Speaker 6: and Caleb Ransaw back there at the nickel.
- 22:21Speaker 7: The Darnian Doones did really good last year.
- 22:24Speaker 6: He's gonna have to fight for time because Jordan Lewis
- 22:27Speaker 6: is a high end nickel Monterak's gonna be on the
- 22:30Speaker 6: field and Travis Hunter's gonna be on the field. All
- 22:33Speaker 6: of a sudden, I've listed off six defensive backs already
- 22:38Speaker 6: that are good and that they trust, there's depth and
- 22:42Speaker 6: they may be a lot better on the front end.
- 22:44Speaker 4: Here's a good question, who is this year's Antonio Johnson?
- 22:47Speaker 4: Because a year ago Antonio Johnson who tied for the
- 22:50Speaker 4: team lead with five interceptions, but at this time a
- 22:53Speaker 4: year ago, he was a fringe roster guy. He was
- 22:56Speaker 4: gonna make it on special teams. That was all they
- 22:58Speaker 4: thought he was going to be. And then all of
- 23:00Speaker 4: a sudden, the regular season starts and he worked his
- 23:03Speaker 4: way into a really important role. Now you list him
- 23:07Speaker 4: as a starter because of the way that he emerged.
- 23:10Speaker 4: They may find a way to pay this guy right
- 23:12Speaker 4: and they were thinking they may have to cut him at.
- 23:14Speaker 5: This time last year.
- 23:16Speaker 4: Who in that group rises to the top guy like
- 23:19Speaker 4: Antonio Johnson did last year.
- 23:21Speaker 2: It's hard to say, but there's a lot of They
- 23:24Speaker 2: drafted Jalen Husky to be a ballhawk. They talked specifically
- 23:26Speaker 2: about his ability to turn the ball over and obviously,
- 23:29Speaker 2: in coach Camp's defense, that's a point of focus, is
- 23:32Speaker 2: turning your head and trying to find the ball as well.
- 23:34Speaker 1: So there's an opportunity there.
- 23:35Speaker 2: We haven't seen Ransaw in action yet, but he's so
- 23:37Speaker 2: physical and he's so animated and just like very much
- 23:41Speaker 2: involved in every single play. So I hope to see
- 23:43Speaker 2: him in a little more game action just so he
- 23:45Speaker 2: can assess it. But there's like five or six names
- 23:48Speaker 2: you could say, I really don't know.
- 23:49Speaker 4: Well, listen, and there's a new secondary coach that they're
- 23:52Speaker 4: very excited at, Mattie.
- 23:53Speaker 5: Yes.
- 23:54Speaker 4: I think one point that we can go back to
- 23:56Speaker 4: consistently from last year is what a great job at
- 23:59Speaker 4: coaching staff did getting more out of players than the
- 24:02Speaker 4: previous staff had.
- 24:04Speaker 5: You can go all over the roster and point it out, but.
- 24:06Speaker 4: I don't think any group more so than that secondary group.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Monterrek Brown, Antonio Johnson to name just two, were coached
- 24:14Speaker 4: to a point that they played at a very high level,
- 24:17Speaker 4: and I expect more of that with this new defensive backstaff.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Good stuff, all right, stay with us here on Jagszam.
- 24:22Speaker 2: We're going to answer some of your frequently asked questions
- 24:25Speaker 2: after the break about training camp. Studded Moving at Storage
- 24:36Speaker 2: Floorda's most trusted and dependable moving company. They're proud to
- 24:39Speaker 2: be the official moving company of the Jacksonville Jaguars. To

- 24:49Speaker 2: Lots of fans with us here today, and of course
- 24:51Speaker 2: it's day three of training camp, a bunch of open
- 24:53Speaker 2: practices ahead, and I don't want to jinx it, but
- 24:58Speaker 2: decent enough.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Whether I haven't started sweating today yet.
- 25:00Speaker 2: I'm in air conditioning right now, So I don't even
- 25:02Speaker 2: know why I'm saying that, because I could be out
- 25:03Speaker 2: there right now sweating to death.
- 25:05Speaker 1: But the fans are pretty good.
- 25:06Speaker 2: They got the nice fan fans above them and then
- 25:09Speaker 2: shade from the sun, so it is pretty nice out there.
- 25:12Speaker 2: And Sunnis is also sponsoring some of our frequently asked questions,
- 25:15Speaker 2: because we do get asked a lot of questions when
- 25:17Speaker 2: we're out and about the team. As of course we
- 25:20Speaker 2: know a little bit about what's going on with the Jaguars,
- 25:22Speaker 2: and one of them is about training camp because fans
- 25:26Speaker 2: are wondering, how do I buy tickets for training camp?
- 25:28Speaker 1: And this is the best part. You don't have to
- 25:30Speaker 1: buy them. They are free. You can come to training camp.
- 25:32Speaker 2: We have a whole list of practices that are open,
- 25:34Speaker 2: including some of the joint practices later on in the
- 25:37Speaker 2: season against both the Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
- 25:41Speaker 2: which are gonna be fun, Brian. But yeah, I mean
- 25:43Speaker 2: we've had some good crowds out here, but still a
- 25:45Speaker 2: bunch of days and opportunities for people to come out.
- 25:47Speaker 4: It's never been better to be a Jaguars fan who
- 25:49Speaker 4: wants to go to training camp. A long time Jaguars
- 25:52Speaker 4: fans remember when the practice fields John were on the
- 25:55Speaker 4: south side of the stadium by the river, and even
- 25:59Speaker 4: more recently they or here where we are sitting now.
- 26:01Speaker 4: But there was not a sentilla of shade to be found.
- 26:06Speaker 4: It was a place where the corners came together and
- 26:08Speaker 4: maybe you could find a little shade there.
- 26:10Speaker 5: Look at those fans going right now.
- 26:12Speaker 7: That was back when camp was the Dermatologist Festival.
- 26:14Speaker 5: Absolutely, I mean in the middle of the days, not it.
- 26:18Speaker 7: But now, yeah, I mean it's fantastic.
- 26:22Speaker 6: It is a pleasant experience to sit in the stands.
- 26:25Speaker 6: The fans are industrial, I mean the fans above. Maybe
- 26:29Speaker 6: some of the fans are in I don't know, probably,
- 26:32Speaker 6: but it's a if you're somebody who remembers it when
- 26:38Speaker 6: it's it's a much different experience and it's fun.
- 26:42Speaker 4: Well, it's fun, and you've got a practice with the
- 26:44Speaker 4: Panthers and two with the Buccaneers. Right, yeah, so that
- 26:47Speaker 4: I mean, you know those are going to be spirited
- 26:49Speaker 4: practices and a lot of fun of course.
- 26:52Speaker 2: And then they sign autographs after practice a lot of
- 26:54Speaker 2: times different player groups, so there's meet and great opportunities
- 26:56Speaker 2: as well. So we just want to tell everybody that
- 26:59Speaker 2: it is that time of year again, so check it
- 27:01Speaker 2: out on Jaguars dot com.
- 27:02Speaker 7: As far as fans being here to mean in your
- 27:03Speaker 7: REPI Causart.
- 27:05Speaker 6: All coaches I've been around appreciate the fans when they
- 27:09Speaker 6: come out.
- 27:10Speaker 7: Liam really likes.
- 27:11Speaker 1: It's separate energy. It does.
- 27:13Speaker 6: It's not just a why they value it, and he
- 27:18Speaker 6: without prompting, every time the fans are out there, he
- 27:22Speaker 6: always talks about how much it means and what the
- 27:25Speaker 6: energy is.
- 27:26Speaker 7: So you know, if you come out, no, it's appreciated,
- 27:29Speaker 7: all right.
- 27:30Speaker 2: We also want to address a lot of construction going on,
- 27:33Speaker 2: but fans also kind of want to know when are
- 27:35Speaker 2: they going to be able to see jack the Jaguars
- 27:37Speaker 2: play in Jacksonville again. It's in a couple of weeks, friends,
- 27:40Speaker 2: It's not this is not a year away from Jacksonville.
- 27:43Speaker 4: That's any surprised by how many people didn't know this.
- 27:46Speaker 4: Of course, you know, we live it every day and
- 27:48Speaker 4: we know what they're doing to.
- 27:50Speaker 5: Be ready to play in there.
- 27:51Speaker 4: It's a big lift obviously, because they're lifting all that
- 27:53Speaker 4: steel up, hie. But the Jaguars are playing in Jacksonville
- 27:56Speaker 4: in twenty twenty six, Orlando is twenty twenty seven. Because
- 27:59Speaker 4: it's speaking engagement. And I mentioned that, and half the
- 28:01Speaker 4: room turned their heads like they didn't know.
- 28:04Speaker 7: It's very understandable.
- 28:05Speaker 6: I live close to the stadium, so we drive over
- 28:07Speaker 6: to the Matthews Bridge whenever we go on errands. And
- 28:10Speaker 6: when you drive over it right now, it it it
- 28:14Speaker 6: looks like a stadium out of construction. Because it is,
- 28:17Speaker 6: so it's easy to see.
- 28:18Speaker 7: How people would well, okay, well they are playing You
- 28:21Speaker 7: don't engage with it. Every day.
- 28:22Speaker 6: They're playing here six times, where they're playing here eight
- 28:24Speaker 6: times including pre season.
- 28:27Speaker 4: So yeah, tell your friends it's gonna be if you
- 28:30Speaker 4: have friends, it's gonna be a different experience.
- 28:32Speaker 5: It's gonna be a different experience this year.
- 28:35Speaker 4: There've been there have been stadiums that have been that
- 28:37Speaker 4: have been under construction to some degree when teams have
- 28:40Speaker 4: played in them, but.
- 28:41Speaker 5: Nothing like this.
- 28:42Speaker 2: It's happening right now. They're pouring the concrete, get everything ready.
- 28:45Speaker 2: They're putting the lights up, so they're gonna be ready
- 28:47Speaker 2: for that night game against the Panthers. That'll be their
- 28:50Speaker 2: first game back here in a couple of weeks, and
- 28:52Speaker 2: it is limited capacity, so we did want to mention
- 28:54Speaker 2: that as well, because they will be here, but the
- 28:56Speaker 2: whole upper deck is gone. So if you want to
- 28:57Speaker 2: get your tickets, you got to lock in now. Head
- 28:59Speaker 2: over at Jaguars dot com slash tickets, get that all
- 29:01Speaker 2: set up. They're good to go when the season comes around.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Cool scene, it's gonna be something completely different.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Absolutely say with here on Jagzam.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Coming up, we'll tell you what we've seen in the
- 29:09Speaker 2: first couple of days and what you can look forward
- 29:11Speaker 2: to in the next couple of days when the pads
- 29:13Speaker 2: go on soon. Welcome back to jag Zam Day three
- 29:25Speaker 2: Live look at training camp. Liam co and getting after
- 29:27Speaker 2: it already. He's excited. I think we're all very excited though.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Pads go on on Monday, John, and we're going to
- 29:33Speaker 2: see some actual football.
- 29:35Speaker 6: Yeah, it's uh, that's when everything really starts. We need
- 29:41Speaker 6: to really start gauging things, and you know.
- 29:45Speaker 7: They don't. They still don't. It's still not like the
- 29:48Speaker 7: old days.
- 29:48Speaker 1: It's not two days.
- 29:49Speaker 5: Okay, we know it's not tackling all the way to
- 29:52Speaker 5: the ground the way they do it.
- 29:55Speaker 6: That's when they feel like they start getting stepped down
- 29:58Speaker 6: right now that it's still more instance. Yes, there's competition,
- 30:02Speaker 6: but on Monday's when.
- 30:04Speaker 7: It really says.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Man.
- 30:04Speaker 5: I used the term with you the other day, strategic
- 30:07Speaker 5: stress right again.
- 30:08Speaker 2: I would go back to stress and oculation, and you
- 30:10Speaker 2: put them in stressful situations, see how they're gonna react.
- 30:13Speaker 4: I was going I go back to my conversation with
- 30:15Speaker 4: Gerald and I said that this is so different than
- 30:17Speaker 4: you know, the early days. And he said, yeah, he
- 30:20Speaker 4: goes back, then you just you just beat him up,
- 30:23Speaker 4: he goes. Now, the stress that you put these guys
- 30:25Speaker 4: under is very strategic in certain situations. You know, every
- 30:28Speaker 4: one of them wears a vest that tracks what they do,
- 30:31Speaker 4: their expenditure of energy, and so you know when guys
- 30:35Speaker 4: are reaching that level where their energy is starting to dwindle,
- 30:38Speaker 4: and that's when guys get hurt. And so now they
- 30:41Speaker 4: bring them off the field and they have them the
- 30:43Speaker 4: next day where they can get the work done. So
- 30:45Speaker 4: even though training camp isn't doesn't seem as difficult as
- 30:49Speaker 4: it did back in the two A day days. Uh,
- 30:52Speaker 4: they managed to make it difficult and stress guys, but
- 30:54Speaker 4: they're very strategic about it.
- 30:56Speaker 7: Yeah, they have to. It's a good word.
- 30:59Speaker 6: They had to manufacture the situations because there is so
- 31:02Speaker 6: much emphasis on player safety, and not necessarily from a
- 31:07Speaker 6: league mandate, it's from a team point of view of
- 31:10Speaker 6: the reason they don't tackle to the ground. I got
- 31:13Speaker 6: a question, what are the pros and cons of hitting
- 31:15Speaker 6: during training camp?
- 31:16Speaker 7: Well, the pros are it's better, but the cons are
- 31:19Speaker 7: you don't want to get guys hurt. And their goal
- 31:23Speaker 7: a good.
- 31:24Speaker 6: Training camp is if you get almost nothing done and
- 31:27Speaker 6: I'm exaggerating here, but getting nobody hurt, because that's just
- 31:32Speaker 6: the premium because you can't get these guys back.
- 31:33Speaker 7: You can't get your quality guys back.
- 31:35Speaker 4: It's why those practices, those joint practices with the Saints,
- 31:38Speaker 4: the Panthers, and the Buccaneers are so critical because they
- 31:40Speaker 4: don't want to put guys out on the field on
- 31:43Speaker 4: those preseason games and risk them getting hurt and not
- 31:46Speaker 4: being ready for the regular season when they can again
- 31:49Speaker 4: be strategic coora, very calculated about how they get the
- 31:53Speaker 4: work done. It's it's not unlike the technological It's not
- 31:56Speaker 4: like this, right. I mean, there was a day when
- 31:58Speaker 4: you didn't have one of these, and so much more
- 32:02Speaker 4: work had to be done. Now this phone allows you
- 32:04Speaker 4: to be very strategic about your day and how you
- 32:07Speaker 4: can do multiple things at the same time.
- 32:09Speaker 5: It's technology and action.
- 32:11Speaker 2: And quickly on this just because we get eyes on here.
- 32:13Speaker 2: First couple of days, mostly about athleticism. Anybody that stood
- 32:17Speaker 2: out to you so far.
- 32:18Speaker 4: Travis Hunter made a jump the other day. That and
- 32:21Speaker 4: of course everybody expects you to say, Travis Hunter, he
- 32:23Speaker 4: leaped for the ball. He didn't make the catch, the
- 32:25Speaker 4: defensive back got his hand in there. But just to
- 32:27Speaker 4: see a guy coming off of, you know, an off
- 32:29Speaker 4: season working on the knee, to see the explosiveness, I mean,
- 32:32Speaker 4: I went, wow, it's just eyes bug out. And I've
- 32:34Speaker 4: been around this long enough and that doesn't happen all
- 32:37Speaker 4: that often. Yeah, he can do freakish things. Their challenge
- 32:41Speaker 4: is to figure out how to channel those freakish things
- 32:43Speaker 4: into productivity.
- 32:45Speaker 7: Look, the receivers look really good.
- 32:47Speaker 6: I think overall, what you notice is how much smoother
- 32:52Speaker 6: everything is, how much more this offense knows about what
- 32:56Speaker 6: to do.
- 32:57Speaker 7: And Trevor's looks.
- 32:58Speaker 4: Really good to other guys, Branson Called and Ventral Miller
- 33:01Speaker 4: are in a competition for the starting week side job,
- 33:04Speaker 4: and yesterday both of them ran, jumped, played coverage, played
- 33:08Speaker 4: the run.
- 33:08Speaker 5: Both of them stood out.
- 33:10Speaker 7: Traylon Walker looked exceptionally good early too.
- 33:13Speaker 2: He's a little bit athletic, just a little bit, all right,
- 33:16Speaker 2: Stay with us throughout the week for our coverage. Of course,
- 33:18Speaker 2: we'll be back here on JAGSAM on Thursday. There's plenty
- 33:21Speaker 2: of tickets available to come out and see training camp
- 33:23Speaker 2: for yourself.
- 33:23Speaker 1: Pads go on on Monday. See you then enjoy it.
