- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Sarah Struckland. The RNC is responding to questions raised
- 0:04Speaker 1: about Tyler Day, the man accused in a vehicle pedestrian
- 0:08Speaker 1: collision in Saint John's that claimed the life of a
- 0:10Speaker 1: six year old child. CBC is reporting that Day, who
- 0:14Speaker 1: was wanted on an outstanding warrant, had been involved in
- 0:17Speaker 1: a collision just two days before. The vehicle he was
- 0:20Speaker 1: driving struck a little boy at Thorburn Road and Larkhall
- 0:24Speaker 1: Street on July twenty third. Linda Swain reports.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Questions have been raised as to why Day was not
- 0:30Speaker 2: taken into custody following a separate collision at Stamps Lane
- 0:33Speaker 2: and Terra Nova Road on July twenty first. The r
- 0:36Speaker 2: n C says a warrant for the arrest of Tyler
- 0:38Speaker 2: Julian Day was requested in January of twenty twenty five
- 0:41Speaker 2: for failing to abide by the conditions of a previous
- 0:44Speaker 2: release order. That warrant was endorsed by a judge in
- 0:47Speaker 2: corner Brook, but attempts to locate Day in Western Newfoundland
- 0:50Speaker 2: were unsuccessful. The Constabulary says the warrant was not executed
- 0:54Speaker 2: during the July twenty first collision, as the crash was
- 0:57Speaker 2: deemed to be non criminal in nature. The rn c C
- 0:59Speaker 2: says there was no information in that case that required
- 1:02Speaker 2: officers to conduct criminal record checks and the file was concluded.
- 1:06Speaker 2: The rn C says there are different types of warrants
- 1:08Speaker 2: under the Criminal Code of Canada, and an endorsed warrant
- 1:11Speaker 2: allows an arresting officer to release the accused in accordance
- 1:15Speaker 2: with the principle of restraint. An unindorsed warrant requires that
- 1:18Speaker 2: the person arrested be released as determined by a judge.
- 1:21Speaker 2: The RNC says any loss of life is deeply concerning
- 1:24Speaker 2: and their thoughts are with the family of the child,
- 1:26Speaker 2: who are experiencing unimaginable grief.
- 1:30Speaker 1: RCMP have released dashcam footage of a heart stopping close
- 1:33Speaker 1: call on the Trans Canada in hopes of identifying the
- 1:36Speaker 1: driver involved. The incident occurred just east of Bellevue on
- 1:40Speaker 1: Friday afternoon and police were notified on Monday. ARCMP say
- 1:44Speaker 1: a white Honda Sedan, possibly in accord, was heading east
- 1:47Speaker 1: when it crossed a solid line to pass another car.
- 1:51Speaker 1: It came perilously close to colliding with a vehicle heading
- 1:54Speaker 1: in the opposite direction. Dashcam footage was released by police
- 1:58Speaker 1: in hopes of identifying the driver responsible. The footage can
- 2:02Speaker 1: be viewed at VOCM dot com. Ontario Premier Doug Ford
- 2:07Speaker 1: says the US should feel pain in the tariff war
- 2:10Speaker 1: after the latest escalation by President Donald Trump. He told
- 2:14Speaker 1: the Toronto radio show earlier that day that Trump should
- 2:17Speaker 1: kiss my you know what, after the President threatened further
- 2:21Speaker 1: tariffs on the auto and steel sectors that could go
- 2:24Speaker 1: into effect in the new year.
- 2:25Speaker 3: We need to roll everything in the kitchens, sink at them.
- 2:29Speaker 3: He's arrogant, he's cocky, and you know, as Ronald Reagan said,
- 2:33Speaker 3: if he come to a draw with a bully, what
- 2:35Speaker 3: stops out bully from coming after you the next date
- 2:38Speaker 3: and the next date. And that's all Donald Trump is
- 2:40Speaker 3: is a bully in this province.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Finance Minister Craig Party says the provincial government stands ready
- 2:46Speaker 1: to help businesses affected by the escalating trade war with
- 2:50Speaker 1: the US. The US is imposing fifty percent tariffs on
- 2:53Speaker 1: a wide range of Canadian products, with Canadian counter tariffs
- 2:57Speaker 1: to come into effect on September eighth. Is in Nunavut
- 3:00Speaker 1: today participating in internal trade discussions, and he met with
- 3:04Speaker 1: his provincial counterparts yesterday to discuss a Team Canada approach
- 3:08Speaker 1: to the breakdown in trade talks.
- 3:10Speaker 3: We're very much now into planning phase because I, like you,
- 3:14Speaker 3: and like many others, figure that this deal would have
- 3:16Speaker 3: been consummated at the end of last week.
- 3:19Speaker 1: A leader of gas is up over the two dollars mark.
- 3:22Speaker 1: This morning, the pub raised the maximum price by three
- 3:26Speaker 1: point three cents per leader. There's virtually no change in
- 3:30Speaker 1: the price of all other fuels. An unusual visitor to
- 3:34Speaker 1: a cabin area in Labrador West is getting plenty of
- 3:37Speaker 1: attention online. A muskox, a creature native to the Arctic tundra,
- 3:42Speaker 1: was recently caught on camera in the heavily wooded Julian
- 3:45Speaker 1: Lake area. Sabrina Hunt captured the peculiar sighting on Saturday.
- 3:49Speaker 1: The Department of Forestry admits it's a rare occurrence Labrador
- 3:53Speaker 1: West being well south of the animal's known range. The
- 3:57Speaker 1: department says the stray would be considered an exotic vagrant,
- 4:00Speaker 1: meaning it wandered outside its non migration range or habitat.
- 4:04Speaker 1: The department cannot say whether the animal's presence is related
- 4:08Speaker 1: to any population increases or habitat issues. Governor General Louise
- 4:13Speaker 1: Arbour is set to be in Gander on September eleventh
- 4:16Speaker 1: to mark the twenty fifth anniversary of the nine eleven
- 4:20Speaker 1: terrorists attacks. Rideau Hall says our Boer will also meet
- 4:23Speaker 1: with a variety of provincial officials and indigenous leaders during
- 4:27Speaker 1: a five day visit beginning September eighth. Dozens of flights
- 4:30Speaker 1: were diverted to the Gander Airport as the terror attacks
- 4:33Speaker 1: on September eleventh, two thousand one were unfolding across the
- 4:37Speaker 1: United States. Thousands of stranded passengers were welcomed by local
- 4:41Speaker 1: residents who provided food, shelter, and essentials. That's your news.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I'm Sarah Strickland.
