- 0:01Mark chapter 8 let us pray, our Father, who is in heaven, holy
- 0:11is your name, your Kingdom come, and your will be done here on
- 0:16earth, just as it is there in heaven.
- 0:19Give us this day Our Daily Bread, and forgive us for our
- 0:23trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
- 0:27Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one,
- 0:33for yours is the power, the Kingdom, and the glory, forever
- 0:37and ever and ever. Amen.
- 0:40Let's start in verse one. In those days, the multitude
- 0:47being very great and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his
- 0:51disciples unto him and said unto them, well, here we are again
- 0:58moving along here in Mark. We're going to get to see Jesus
- 1:02do another massive miracle for the multitudes.
- 1:06We're going to see that this is primarily for the Gentiles, as
- 1:10the other feeding of the 5000 was for primarily Jews.
- 1:16And you're going to see here there are a few differences and
- 1:22the amount of fish and the amount of loaves.
- 1:25It's the boy who offers the fish and loaves for the 5000.
- 1:30It's the disciples here who are offering the bread and then
- 1:35later offers the fish. Let's keep moving.
- 1:39Verse 2. I have compassion on the
- 1:43multitude because they have now been with me 3 days and have
- 1:47nothing to eat. Jesus Christ moved with
- 1:50compassion even for those who were not there for the right
- 1:56reasons. They were only there for the
- 1:59miracles. They were only there to be fed.
- 2:02And Jesus, because he is so compassionate with this Jesus is
- 2:08moved to feed and it's no different today.
- 2:13Jesus desires to provide for us. He provides for the birds of the
- 2:18air. He provides for the lilies of
- 2:21the field. Even the rain rains down on the
- 2:27unrighteous, friends, it rains on the righteous and the
- 2:32unrighteous. So you can see here that Jesus
- 2:36Christ is moved with compassion for the multitudes have been
- 2:40following them around verse 3 and I if I send them away
- 2:46fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way, for
- 2:51diverse of them came from far so Jesus knows everything.
- 2:57Jesus made us the way that he did.
- 3:00Jesus created us in the way that he did.
- 3:03He knows that we need substance. He knows that we need nutrients.
- 3:08He knows that we need to be fed. And look at the birds of the
- 3:14air. They do not reap, they do not
- 3:18sow, but your heavenly Father takes care of them.
- 3:22Look at the lilies of the field, they do not toil or spin, but
- 3:27look how He clothes them. And you can see that Jesus knows
- 3:33all of our needs. He is in tune with our needs
- 3:37here, and it's no different today.
- 3:41For His disciples answered Him. From where can a man satisfy
- 3:47these men with bread here in the wilderness?
- 3:50How quickly we forget. How quickly we lose track of
- 3:56what God can do. How quickly God can answer our
- 4:02prayers and move mountains. And then the moment that the
- 4:05miracle happens, we give credit to a doctor.
- 4:09The moment that a miracle happens, we give credit to
- 4:12ourselves. The moment that the miracle
- 4:15happens, we call it luck. The moment that a miracle
- 4:22happens, we call it coincidence. And we forget that God is the
- 4:27one who is in full control. God controls everything all
- 4:31around us, all the time. He's got the whole world in his
- 4:35hands, friends. And we would do well to remember
- 4:39all the times that God has come through for us.
- 4:43We would do well where when we are in a pinch, when we're
- 4:46backed into a corner, we would do well to recall and to recount
- 4:51and to remind ourselves of all the times that God has come
- 4:56through and miraculously saved us, miraculously saved our loved
- 5:01ones. We would do well, friends.
- 5:04And here look how quickly the disciples have forgotten of the
- 5:09feeding of the 5000. Let's keep moving. 5 And he
- 5:13asked them, how many loaves do you have?
- 5:17And they said, 7. God's provision always starts
- 5:29with what we have in our hands, friends.
- 5:32He can multiply it. Little is much in the Father's
- 5:38hands. And you can see here that the
- 5:41disciples are somewhat reluctant to hand over their seven loaves,
- 5:47and there's no mention of fish just yet. 6 And he commanded the
- 5:52people to sit down on the ground, and he took the seven
- 5:55loaves, and he gave thanks, and he broke, and he gave to his
- 5:59disciples to set before them, and they did set them before the
- 6:03people. So here Jesus is calling the
- 6:06disciples not only to give up their seven loaves, but also to
- 6:11be the distributors. After Jesus miraculously
- 6:16provided 7 and they had a few small fish and He blessed and
- 6:25commanded to set them also before them, it seems as if the
- 6:30disciples had to see Him multiply the bread 1st 8.
- 6:38So they did eat and were filled, and they took up the broken meat
- 6:43that was left 7 baskets. So here you can see that there
- 6:49is a difference between the feeding of the 5000, the feeding
- 6:54of the 4000. You can see it in how many
- 6:58baskets were taken up. You can see it in the type of
- 7:01the baskets that they were taking up all the leftovers.
- 7:06And we need to know that with God, not only does He feed us,
- 7:15but He feeds us to our full. It's not just a little bit, it's
- 7:23abundance. And we can feast and feed on his
- 7:27word. Jesus says, I have food that you
- 7:30know nothing about, and my food is to do the will of my Father.
- 7:34And I pray that you're feasting on the bread of life.
- 7:38I pray that you are drinking deep with the water of life, the
- 7:45living water. Friends, His name is Jesus and
- 7:50we need to be in this word drinking and eating every day
- 7:55and getting our fill. This is where we come to the
- 7:59well to drink up that living water and we will never be
- 8:07thirsty again. It is satisfying, it is
- 8:12fullness. Friends, seek ye first the
- 8:16Kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you.
- 8:21Don't forget that His ways are not our ways.
- 8:26We need to trust and obey and watch how God shows up in
- 8:30miraculous ways. 9 And they that had eaten were about 4000 and he
- 8:40sent them away. He's so good at what he does.
- 8:45He makes sure that they have provisions for their journey,
- 8:49that they're well fed and satisfied and strengthened to go
- 8:54back into the diverse places. 10 straightway, there's one of
- 9:01Mark's coined terms, and straightway he entered into a
- 9:07ship with his disciples and came into the parts of Dao minuta.
- 9:12So here we can see that Mark is all about giving us all of the
- 9:19straightway times that Jesus moved about.
- 9:23And this is a fast track through the ministry of Jesus Christ.
- 9:28Mark wastes no time. It is straightway, and Jesus is
- 9:33our straightway. He is the narrow gate.
- 9:40He is the straightway friends, and only a few find it. 11 in
- 9:49the Pharisees came forth and began to question Him, seeking
- 9:52of Him aside from heaven, tempting Him.
- 9:56So here you can see this is the same method.
- 10:00This is the same spirit of the devil in the wilderness.
- 10:05When he's tempting Him, He is telling them to turn the stones
- 10:11into bread. He's tempting him.
- 10:14You can see the Pharisees are being hijacked by Satan.
- 10:18This is no different. And they're being used by the
- 10:22devil himself asking for a sign. The sign would never be enough
- 10:30for them. Friends.
- 10:31They were not looking for a sign.
- 10:34They were looking to murder their Messiah because he was
- 10:38coming in and opposing all of their ways of life that they had
- 10:46built up. And they were using God, and
- 10:50they were using the systems to get rich and to get fat and to
- 10:57manipulate the masses, and he was opposing all of their ways
- 11:04there in that land. And Jesus saw their hypocrisy
- 11:08and their duplicity. 12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and
- 11:20said, Why does this generation seek after a sign?
- 11:25Truly, I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this
- 11:30generation. Well, we know that the only sign
- 11:33that he was going to give them was the sign of Jonah, which is
- 11:37the death and the burial and the resurrection, and the three days
- 11:41in the belly. And we know that Jesus is our
- 11:51Messiah. We know that Jesus is the coming
- 11:56one. We know that Jesus is the
- 11:58Christ. And they had missed it at this
- 12:01time. They were looking for a
- 12:03revolutionary. They were looking for a
- 12:07Liberator. They were looking for the
- 12:10Messiah to come and to trample down on their enemies.
- 12:16And there was teachings in the land at this time that there was
- 12:202 Messiahs, one that would suffer and the other one that
- 12:23would come victorious. And they had missed the mark.
- 12:27They had missed the whole thing. And if we're not careful, we
- 12:30would be the same. We would do the same.
- 12:34If we're not careful, we'll be like Peter and say I will never
- 12:39allow for prophecy to unfold. And if we will take this word at
- 12:48its word, if we will take it for truth and take it for the
- 12:53inerrant, infallible word of God, what you're going to find
- 12:57is that every single thing that's going on in the world
- 13:02today, friends, is all adding up.
- 13:05It's all perfectly aligning. And what happens is whenever you
- 13:11call any of this book into question, what happens is you
- 13:15get confused about what's happening in the world.
- 13:18You get upset about what's happening happening in the
- 13:21world. You get to a place when you're
- 13:25watching the nightly news, when you're tuning in to wherever you
- 13:30get your sources from. You get confused and turned
- 13:34around. And I see it every day.
- 13:36I see people who are not actually expectant upon the
- 13:41second return of Jesus Christ. They're not actually looking
- 13:44forward to it because they have their cake and they're trying to
- 13:48eat it too. They do not care about what this
- 13:53Bible says. They're more scared of having to
- 13:57go to hell. But they sure do like their
- 14:00little life down here. They like their gated community,
- 14:03they like their Country Club. They like having all of the
- 14:08riches here and they're not very much looking forward to what is
- 14:13next. And they're not putting their
- 14:15hand to the plow, They're not producing the fruit that God is
- 14:19after, and they just do not want to go to hell.
- 14:22They were scared into their salvation.
- 14:26They walked an aisle, they got dunked in some water, they
- 14:29prayed a little Jingle and there is no salvation for them.
- 14:35They are lost friends and if you are not producing fruit, you
- 14:41will be cut down. You will be thrown into the
- 14:45fire. We can mark the way that we know
- 14:49God by the fruit that we have and we need to get in to the
- 14:54Word of God and understand what it looks like to produce fruit
- 14:58friends. We need to know that we know
- 15:01that we know that we know that God is moving in our midst
- 15:06mightily and we should look forward, we should look up, we
- 15:10should cry out, we should see our redemption drawing near,
- 15:14friends. And if you do not have that, if
- 15:17you do not possess the hope of Jesus second return, if it does
- 15:22not excite you, friends, that should be cause for concern.
- 15:27There's so many people who are much like Peter who do not want
- 15:32these prophecies to come true. They do not look forward to what
- 15:37Jesus desires to do in the world today for our day and for our
- 15:42hour. They're so caught up in the here
- 15:45in the now. They're so caught up in their
- 15:48own lifestyles and they are trampling down on people to
- 15:52climb the corporate ladder so that they can have the cushy
- 15:55life, friends. And far be it from US to not do
- 15:59the Father's will. 13 And he left them, and entering into the
- 16:08ship again, departed to the other side. 14 Now the disciples
- 16:13had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship
- 16:18with them more than one loaf. 15 And he charged them, saying,
- 16:23Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the
- 16:28leaven of Herod. Here you're going to see the
- 16:33disciples, Miss the mark, here you're going to see the
- 16:36disciples. They're relegating everything to
- 16:38the physical friends, and they're not looking at it from
- 16:41the spiritual friends. And we would sure do well to
- 16:45make sure that we are in tune with God and with the spiritual
- 16:49realm. Yes, He knows all about the
- 16:52physical realm that we have to live, that we are bound by space
- 16:57and time. But God lives outside of time.
- 17:00God is not bound by the physical restraints that you and I are
- 17:04bound by. He subjects himself to them,
- 17:07friends, He puts these boundaries around his own self.
- 17:12But he is limitless and boundless friends.
- 17:15He is an all consuming fire. He is our everything.
- 17:21And with his very breath he spoke it all into existence.
- 17:25The only uncreated, the great I am.
- 17:28And so here you'll have to understand that the disciples
- 17:33are still trapped in the physical realm.
- 17:36They still have not graduated, elevated into the spiritual
- 17:41thinking and Jesus here He is warning them of false doctrine.
- 17:51He is warning them to not buy in to the little compromises that
- 17:57lead to all of the great failures in our lives.
- 18:03He's telling us and He's telling them to make sure that they have
- 18:07the discernment. And here what do they do?
- 18:11The same thing that we do. We air on always siding with
- 18:16what we can see, always siding on what is our own reality.
- 18:22And the way that we get out of that, friends, is to study this
- 18:26word, study God's word. Know that he can pull a fish up
- 18:30out of the water and pull coins out of his mouth.
- 18:33Know that he can make the axe head float on top of the water.
- 18:38Know that He can call fired down from heaven.
- 18:41Know that God Almighty is limitless and can do anything.
- 18:46Friends, He can dissolve the metal plate in your body.
- 18:50God can put back an amputee's arm.
- 18:54God can regrow A limb. God can do anything, friends,
- 18:58and we would do well to understand that He is limitless,
- 19:03friends. He is limitless in his power.
- 19:05He's limitless, friends. And if, and this is not a cop
- 19:09out theology, but if he leaves you in that condition, it's for
- 19:13more glory on his sake for him, friends.
- 19:18He knows what is going to bring Him the most amount of glory and
- 19:22we would do well to make sure that we are always believing
- 19:26that God wants to heal. He's desirous to heal.
- 19:30He wants to do the miracle and we should not be offended by Him
- 19:34when the miracle does not happen and when the miracle doesn't
- 19:37come and when the limb doesn't regrow itself.
- 19:41Friends, we would do well to know that God is still good and
- 19:45God has a perfect plan, all moving and harmony and unison.
- 19:51Friends, it's a great Symphony happening all around you and we
- 19:55need to get in tune and get in line with Him and know that it
- 20:01is the best life that we could ever have is when we're
- 20:04following hard after Jesus Christ, whenever we are pressing
- 20:08hard after him, when we're charging the hill.
- 20:11Friends, when we're not retreating, no.
- 20:14Retreats, no. Backing down, we are only
- 20:19advancing the Kingdom of God violently.
- 20:22We will take it. Friends 16 And they reasoned
- 20:29among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
- 20:33There they are looking at the physical, looking at the
- 20:38natural. 17 And when Jesus knew it, he said unto them, Why
- 20:44reason you? Because you have no bread?
- 20:47Perceive you not yet. That's what he asked you, That's
- 20:51what he asked me. Do you not perceive yet of the
- 20:55spiritual realm all around? Neither understand Have you your
- 21:00heart yet hardened? Do not harden your hearts,
- 21:04friends. This is what happens when we
- 21:06choose money over God. This is what happens when we
- 21:14choose the idols of our traditions over God.
- 21:22This is what happens when we choose this world over God.
- 21:26We harden our hearts as in the days of rebellion, and we just
- 21:31want enough of God sprinkled in. We just want enough of Jesus
- 21:35sprinkled in. We just want enough of the
- 21:37church sprinkled in to make us feel good and to make sure that
- 21:46we don't have to go to hell. And you see it all around.
- 21:53People are not that excited about following after God
- 21:56Almighty. They're not in the daily
- 21:58discipline of getting into the Word of God and discovering the
- 22:02jewels and the gems for themselves, friends.
- 22:06And don't take my word for it, but take his. 18 Having eyes see
- 22:18you not, and having ears hear you not.
- 22:21And do you not remember how quickly we forget?
- 22:26How quickly we are to forget the miracles that God Almighty does
- 22:32for us through Jesus Christ? 19 When I broke the five loaves
- 22:37among 5000, how many baskets full of fragments did you take
- 22:43up? And they said unto him, 12 There
- 22:46is a response. Jesus demands a response here,
- 22:50friends, and he's asking you questions today, and he demands
- 22:55a response. Who do you say that he is?
- 23:0120 And when the seven among 4000, how many baskets full of
- 23:10fragments did you take up? And they said, 7.
- 23:15So here we can see that there is a very clear distinction between
- 23:20the two miraculous feedings of the thousands.
- 23:24Friends, We can see here that Jesus himself make sure to make
- 23:33the distinction. This is not one miracle
- 23:37misconstrued. This is very separate, one for
- 23:42the Jews and one for the Gentiles, and different amounts
- 23:46of fish and loaves and different ways of provision.
- 23:50And God is limitless in the way that He provides for us.
- 23:54Don't forget it. 21 And he said unto them, How is it that you do
- 23:59not understand? He says the same to us today,
- 24:04friends, how is it that you do not understand?
- 24:07He has given you the complete authority of His Word.
- 24:11He has given you Genesis all the way to Revelation, friends.
- 24:16And you can do the audio Bible. If you are not one that likes to
- 24:22read, get into the Bible, actually listen to it, actually
- 24:28meditate upon it. Don't just check the box,
- 24:32friends. How is it that you do not
- 24:35understand? So many of us are all turned
- 24:38around in our doctrine and theology because we're being
- 24:42taught by man, we're being taught by the tradition of men,
- 24:45and we need to know and to own and to live the Word of God for
- 24:49ourselves. Friends, it is the personal
- 24:52relationship with God Almighty through His Son Jesus Christ.
- 24:57And just remember that in the beginning was the Word, and the
- 25:01Word was with God, and the Word was God, and the Word became
- 25:04flesh friends. And we would do well to get in
- 25:07this good book and allow this good book to get into us.
- 25:11That way we will not be duped when the counterfeit comes
- 25:14across. How is it that you do not
- 25:17understand? Do you even read the Bible?
- 25:2222 And he came to Bethsaida, and they brought a blind man unto
- 25:28him and begged him to touch him. Here we're going to get to see
- 25:32this little town beside it. He's already, he has already
- 25:36announced judgment upon this town, and here as they're
- 25:41approaching it, after the judgment was pronounced upon it,
- 25:45here they're bringing a single guy out, and they want Jesus to
- 25:49heal him. 23 And he took the blind man by the hand and let
- 25:53him out of the town, And when he had spit on his eyes and he put
- 25:58his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw.
- 26:03So here you can see that Jesus takes him outside of the city
- 26:07because he had already pronounced judgment upon it.
- 26:09Here you can see Jesus healing him in a very peculiar way.
- 26:14You can see that he was very intentional with all of his
- 26:18miracles. It wasn't A1 size fits all.
- 26:21And it's no different for our day.
- 26:23It's no different for our our friends.
- 26:26God can heal in a myriad of ways.
- 26:28He's not limited friends. He can heal from a distance.
- 26:32He can heal with a touch. And we would do well to know
- 26:36that God is limitless in his healing ability.
- 26:40And we should always assume that God is desirous to heal.
- 26:44And we should not get offended when the healing doesn't come.
- 26:48But keep pressing in friends, do not give up, do not get
- 26:53discouraged. Do not form any, any kind of
- 26:56theology. That is a cop out theology
- 26:59because the healing didn't come. God can do anything. 24 And he
- 27:07looked up and saw, he looked up and said, I see men as trees
- 27:13walking. So we know that this blind man
- 27:16was not blind from birth. He had the ability to see Pryor
- 27:22because he knows what trees look like. 25 After that he put his
- 27:29hands again upon his eyes and made him look up, and he was
- 27:34restored and saw every man clearly.
- 27:37You know, Jesus could have instantaneously made him see
- 27:43clearly, but we are left to debate and wonder why it is that
- 27:51he chose this way to heal this man in a very peculiar fashion
- 27:57in a progress, a progressive healing.
- 28:03It's much like whenever the woman reached out and grabbed
- 28:06the hem of his garment and he felt the power leaving.
- 28:10We are so blessed by the full counsel of God's Word when we do
- 28:17not just have A1 size fits all theology.
- 28:22And yes, the one size that does fit all is Jesus.
- 28:28And that's the only thing that we need to know.
- 28:30That is the only name above all names, the only name that can
- 28:34heal. The only name that has any power
- 28:38is Jesus Christ. The anointed one, the
- 28:41long-awaited Messiah is the only name.
- 28:44Jesus of Nazareth. Call upon that name today and be
- 28:48healed and behold and be saved. And that is the theology that we
- 28:53need. That is what we need to know is
- 28:57what did Jesus do? What did Jesus say?
- 29:02And we all desperately need the healing power of having our sins
- 29:12blotted out and thrown as far as the East is from the West, so
- 29:16that we can stand before Almighty God one day, whole and
- 29:21cleansed and spotless because of the blood of the Lamb placed
- 29:27upon us. 26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, neither go
- 29:37into the town nor tell it to any in the town, because he had
- 29:42already pronounced the judgement upon beside a He had pulled that
- 29:46man outside of beside a. 27 And Jesus went out and his disciples
- 29:52into the towns of Caesarea Philippi.
- 29:55And by the way, he asked his disciples, saying unto them,
- 29:59Whom do men say that I am? This is the question of ages.
- 30:05Friends, the way that you answer this question is everything.
- 30:13If Jesus is just a moral teacher to you, if he's just another
- 30:18religious leader to you, then you have missed the entirety of
- 30:28who he is. We need to know that Jesus is
- 30:31God. We need to know that he was not
- 30:34just another prophet on the scene.
- 30:38He is the culmination of every single event that had ever
- 30:46happened. And he is the reason for every
- 30:51single thing that is happening. It all pointed to him, and it
- 30:56all points back to him, and he is coming again and his rewards
- 31:01are with him. Who do you say that he is 28?
- 31:05And they answered John the Baptist.
- 31:08Some say Elijah and others one of the prophets.
- 31:14This is the masses and this is their response to who Jesus is.
- 31:23He's just a really nice guy. And the disciples, at this time,
- 31:29they were going with popular opinion.
- 31:33They had not yet discovered who their rabbi was.
- 31:39They was still thinking along with all of the popular opinion
- 31:45of the hour. And he said unto them, But whom
- 31:53say you that I am? And Peter answered and said unto
- 32:02him, You are the Christ. Look at how Peter got it right.
- 32:13Praise God for Peter's outspokenness.
- 32:17Praise God that Peter is not like the popular opinion.
- 32:24He did not buy into it. He had his own conviction and we
- 32:29would do well to have our own convictions that are not based
- 32:34upon the popular opinion of man. We need to form our convictions
- 32:43by what the Holy Spirit teaches us, friends, the discernment of
- 32:48the Holy Spirit that we are unwilling to back down from.
- 32:52And the number one thing that you need to know is that Jesus
- 32:56is Lord. Jesus is the way, the truth and
- 33:02the life, and no one comes unto the Father except through Him.
- 33:06Jesus is the only way. He is not one of many ways.
- 33:13He is the only way. We must surrender and submit our
- 33:22lives to Him completely and fully.
- 33:25Nothing held back, nothing compartmentalized. 110% sold out
- 33:32to the King of Kings 30 and he charged them that they should
- 33:41tell no man of him. He did not want them to go and
- 33:48start publishing all these things to everybody because it
- 33:51was not yet his time and he would have been thronged with
- 33:55people coming to worship him for all the wrong reasons.
- 34:01They need to and we need to come to our own conclusion of who
- 34:05Christ is. And yes, we can have preachers
- 34:09and teachers to help us along the way to clarify some of the
- 34:14deep seated questions that we have, and that is completely
- 34:21understandable. But we must come to that
- 34:25conclusion on our own. We cannot have Grandma's faith.
- 34:30We cannot have the pastor's faith.
- 34:33We must fill our lamps ourselves.
- 34:36We must trim the Wicks and fill the oil, friends, and make sure
- 34:42that we are wise in our waiting for Him, and make sure we are
- 34:48adorned and waiting for Him. And the Spirit and the Bride cry
- 34:54out and say come. 31 And he began to teach them that the Son
- 35:01of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders
- 35:06and of the priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three
- 35:11days rise again. 31 He could not make it anymore plain friends.
- 35:18He begins here to open up and to explain to them in the most
- 35:26childish, simple, elementary ways.
- 35:32He outlines it 1 by 1 by 1 by 1. He just shows them exactly to
- 35:40the letter of what would happen. And let's see how the disciples
- 35:45respond here, friends. When he makes it as plain as
- 35:49humanly possible, and he does the same for you and he does the
- 35:52same for me, friends, when you open the good book, when you
- 35:57open up to the book of Matthew and Mark and Luke and John,
- 36:01Jesus makes it as plain as day, as plain as the nose on your
- 36:07face of what we should do to be saved, what we should do to live
- 36:13the Christian life. He makes it plain.
- 36:16And somehow, in some way, we get turned around in our doctrines
- 36:20and theologies because we're so in tune with the traditions of
- 36:23men, friends, that it actually trips us up.
- 36:27It ties our shoelaces together whenever we allow men to have a
- 36:32louder voice in our life then what the word of God has to say.
- 36:4032 And he spoke that saying openly.
- 36:46So here we can see Jesus. He has brought his disciples
- 36:52very intentionally to the Caesarea Philippi and this was a
- 36:57place of Pagan idolatry worship that the Romans had set up.
- 37:05And we can see that Jesus here was very intentional of how he
- 37:14had placed his disciples and how he had spoken with them openly
- 37:19in front of everyone on full display.
- 37:25And Peter took him and began to rebuke him.
- 37:29This word rebuke here is the same word that Jesus used to
- 37:34drive out the devils, to drive out the impure spirits, to drive
- 37:39out the demons. And here this is a strong word
- 37:43that Peter is using and he is trying to drive out anything
- 37:49that is in Jesus that is doesn't belong.
- 37:55And what is happening here is Peter is actually scared for his
- 38:00life. He knows that if Jesus is to be
- 38:04killed, then he will be killed too.
- 38:06And history tells us that Peter was hung upside down on a cross
- 38:11because he did not think that he was worthy to suffer in the same
- 38:16manner as his Lord. So, so Peter here, he is already
- 38:20catching that if Jesus is to go to the cross, then his disciples
- 38:25who were following him would also go there.
- 38:27And he is strongly trying to thwart the prophecy.
- 38:33And it's no different in our day and our hour, and it's no
- 38:37different for us today, friends. We look at all the promises that
- 38:41are contained in this book and we're not too excited about
- 38:44them. We want to live a very
- 38:50comfortable life now and then when we die, get ushered into
- 38:55the street of gold and to get ushered into all of the rewards
- 39:02that we've amassed and to see our loved ones.
- 39:06We don't get excited about Jesus and Jesus and Jesus coming with
- 39:11eyes of fire and hair like wool with A2 edged sword from his
- 39:16mouth. Friends, We do not get excited
- 39:19about what the Bible tells us is going to happen when it says
- 39:25that there's coming a day where no man can work.
- 39:29When it tells us that there's persecution that's coming, When
- 39:33it tells us of all of the things that must happen prior to
- 39:38Jesus's return, we don't get excited about that, friends.
- 39:41And it is understandably so. If you are not in tune with God
- 39:46Almighty, if you do not have the full counsel and you're only
- 39:50holding on to your emotions and the physical realities all
- 39:54around you, and you're limiting God and you're limiting what he
- 39:59can do and what he is desirous to do.
- 40:01And Peter, here he is acting as an agent of Satan. 33 But when
- 40:12he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked
- 40:17Peter, saying, Get you behind me, Satan, for you are savoring
- 40:23not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
- 40:28And he says the same thing to you, and he says the same thing
- 40:32to me, and he says the same thing to this generation, that
- 40:36we are an entire generation of rich young rulers, That we do
- 40:45not have the things of God in mind.
- 40:48We are only desirous of the here and the now and the pleasure and
- 40:55the pleasantries and the comfortable life.
- 40:59And we're so obsessed about money and we're so obsessed
- 41:05about self and vanity. And if we're not careful, we'll
- 41:10be hijacked by Satan, will be hijacked and used to lead many
- 41:19people astray into thinking that this whole life is all about
- 41:24self and all about gain and all about what we can get in the
- 41:30end. And we will not be sold out for
- 41:35the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords and waste our life for
- 41:38him. Spill out your life for him.
- 41:41Give your life for him, give your life.
- 41:44Lay down your life for your friends.
- 41:48There's no greater love. And what happens is we choose
- 41:55our comforts and we choose the physical reality that we can
- 42:01only see. And we stiff arm all the
- 42:04promises contained in this book, and we're ignorant of the word
- 42:07of God, friends. And that is how we get LED
- 42:09astray. The counterfeit comes across and
- 42:12we buy it hook, line and sinker because we're not in tune with
- 42:15the true gospel. We're not in tune with His Holy
- 42:23Scriptures. And here Jesus cannot make it
- 42:27any more plain. 34 And when he had called the people unto him
- 42:34with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come
- 42:39after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and
- 42:43follow me. This is not some little clever
- 42:45Jingle, friends. This is not Jesus inviting us to
- 42:49put on a necklace that has a cross, or wear some earrings
- 42:53that have a cross, or get a tattoo that has a cross.
- 42:57No, this was certain death. Friends and his disciples would
- 43:02have been horrified by the idea of crucifixion, which is where
- 43:09we get our word Excruciating. And here you could see that
- 43:14Jesus is inviting them into martyrdom.
- 43:22There's no greater love and for a man to lay down his life for
- 43:27his friends. We know that that's what Jesus
- 43:29did and we know that that's what He calls us two, friends.
- 43:34And how many of us are scared for our lives?
- 43:38Fear is the greatest motivator of Satan and he gets you to try
- 43:42to hold on to your life. But Jesus is going to tell you
- 43:45what happens whenever we are fearful of death.
- 43:48We do not need to fear death, friends.
- 43:50We need to stare death in the face, friends, and know that no,
- 43:55no matter what happens to us, do not fear the one that can take
- 43:58your life away, but fear the one that could take your life and
- 44:02your soul away in hell, Friends. 35 For whosoever will save his
- 44:12life shall lose it. But whosoever shall lose his
- 44:16life for my sake and the Gospels, the same shall save it.
- 44:22Jesus cannot make it any more plain.
- 44:25Friends, Jesus tells us that if we try to hold on to our life,
- 44:30we're going to lose it. But if we lose our life for his
- 44:34name's sake and for the gospel, friends, the good news of Jesus
- 44:39Christ. And do not be surprised when you
- 44:42are persecuted. Do not be surprised whenever you
- 44:46have to suffer for doing the right thing.
- 44:50Just know that your reward in heaven is great.
- 44:56Do not shy away from spilling out your life. 36 For what shall
- 45:04it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own
- 45:09soul? We have so many people in this
- 45:18world that are more wealthy than the they have ever been, but
- 45:25what does it even matter? What does it even matter in the
- 45:32end? Friends, when you have to stand
- 45:33before Almighty God, you cannot buy your way into heaven.
- 45:40What does it even matter? We got to get off of this
- 45:46thought process. That money and Mammon is our
- 45:52God. We've got to get off the thought
- 45:54process. That money is our all.
- 46:01We've got to get off the thought process.
- 46:04That money solves all of our problems.
- 46:08We've got to get off of the thought process that this world
- 46:16is all that there is. We need to be in tune with the
- 46:21spiritual reality all around us that God is beckoning us into
- 46:26something much greater. That if we have faith that we
- 46:31can reach out, we can grab a hold of it, friends, and we can
- 46:35tear it down and RIP it down and bring it down here into our
- 46:42little 100 years. That He gives us our little life
- 46:46that we have. We can see glimpses of it,
- 46:49friends, but He will give it to us in our totality whenever we
- 46:55finish the race. Well, and much like Solomon,
- 46:59there are many of us who start great and we start with the
- 47:03right motives and we start out with pure intentions.
- 47:09And then the cares of this world, the tares come up and
- 47:14choke us because we have medical bills, we have house payments,
- 47:21we have college payments, we we have court payments.
- 47:26We have all of these things we've got to save for.
- 47:31And yes, we should be shrewd with our finances and we should
- 47:35be good stewards with our finances.
- 47:37And God wants us to be godly in our giving and be godly in our
- 47:45earning and make sure we get it all in a righteous way.
- 47:49But we need to know that ultimately God Almighty is our
- 47:53provider. God Almighty gives us our very
- 47:56next breath. God Almighty is the one who is
- 48:01completely in control of everything.
- 48:04And what does it even matter in the end if you gain the whole
- 48:08entire world, but you're cast into hell fire?
- 48:1737 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
- 48:23When you were standing there before Almighty God, if you are
- 48:27not covered in the blood of Jesus Christ and you start going
- 48:32through all of the things that you did in this life, you start
- 48:36saying we prophesied in your name and we cast out demons in
- 48:41your name and we perform miracles in your name.
- 48:45And what is he going to say? Depart from me for I never knew
- 48:48you. What could you do?
- 48:51How much money could you have to try to bargain with God to make
- 48:56it into eternity? And we only get one shot at
- 48:59this, friends. We get one lifetime and that's
- 49:03it. And some of us might die
- 49:05tonight. Some of us might not get to see
- 49:08to tomorrow. This might be the last week of
- 49:11your life. This might be the last month of
- 49:13your life. This might be the last year of
- 49:16your life. And what does it even matter in
- 49:19the end if you have all the wealth in the entire world, but
- 49:24you do not have right standing with God Almighty.
- 49:27That only comes from a relationship with Him through
- 49:31His Son Jesus Christ. And we cannot let man stand in
- 49:35between US and God. Friends, we cannot let what
- 49:39happened to you when you were a kid, You cannot let what is
- 49:43happening to you now. You cannot let what the church
- 49:47has done to you and the church hurt and what your youth pastor,
- 49:50your pastor has done. You cannot let those things keep
- 49:54you from the love of God Almighty.
- 49:57And the only bridge that we're going to get there over is Jesus
- 50:02Christ. The blood of the Lamb, friends,
- 50:05is the only way you're going to enter in to the Kingdom of God.
- 50:10What does it even matter in the end, if you have everything, but
- 50:13you do not have him? 38 Whosoever, therefore, shall
- 50:21be ashamed of me and of my words, in this adulterous,
- 50:26sinful generation of him also shall the Son of Man be ashamed
- 50:32when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
- 50:37His words, these are Jesus's words.
- 50:44Jesus is telling us that he's coming with all of the angels.
- 50:51He's telling us that we do not need to be ashamed of Him.
- 50:55We do not need to be ashamed of what this Bible says.
- 51:00Friends, stand on the Bible. Stand on the full counsel of
- 51:06God. Do not try to make excuses for
- 51:08God. Do not try to change these words
- 51:13around to fit your moralistic approach to God Almighty.
- 51:19We need to know that the Word of God is an offense.
- 51:23We should not be ashamed of it. Friends Romans chapter one verse
- 51:2816 for I am unashamed of the gospel and we would do well to
- 51:34be unashamed of Jesus Christ. Speak boldly in the marketplace,
- 51:41speak boldly in the workplace. Speak boldly on whatever
- 51:46platform God gives you for Jesus.
- 51:48No matter what comes your way, speak boldly and watch how your
- 51:53Lords are great friends. He says that He will be ashamed
- 52:02of you when he comes in the glory of the Father with the
- 52:08holy angels. He calls this a an adulterous
- 52:13and sinful generation. You do not want to deny Christ
- 52:21now because you will be denied eternity then.
- 52:26Friends, it's very simple. His words here for us that will
- 52:32endure for all times sake. Heaven and earth shall pass
- 52:35away, but not one of these words.
- 52:37You can't do nothing with Him, friends.
- 52:40He's here to stay. It's Jesus.
- 52:43Jesus and Jesus all over every page from Genesis to Revelation
- 52:47at all points to Him. He is the way, the truth, and
- 52:50the life, friends. He is the narrow gate, friends.
- 52:55He is the straight way, friends, and we would do well to get in
- 52:59tune with the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords and give your
- 53:02life to Him today. Surrender to Him today, friends.
- 53:07Do not wait till tomorrow. Today is the day of salvation,
- 53:11friends. Go to Him and wholeheartedly
- 53:14tell him every single sin that you have ever done.
- 53:18Confess them to Him, repent of them.
- 53:21Have a change of mind and let the word wash over you friends,
- 53:26and get in the boat and make sure that you're covered in the
- 53:32blood of Christ. It's the only way we're going to
- 53:36make it there. Friends, I hope you've been
- 53:38blessed by this chapter here. I know I sure have.
- 53:45I'm praying for you. I love you, so does God.
- 53:55We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 53:57God bless you.
