- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to SEC Football Addiction. Drew DeArmond
- 0:04Speaker 1: on with us. We've got Alabama and A & M
- 0:08Speaker 1: this weekend. Bama coming off of back-to-back defeats. Certainly need
- 0:13Speaker 1: to get things running in the right direction through the
- 0:15Speaker 1: rest of this season. We are presented by PrizePix. We're
- 0:18Speaker 1: all new users who play a $ 5 lineup and win.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Get 150 in lineups instantly if they use code HMA.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Before we even get into the A & M game, Drew,
- 0:28Speaker 1: where's the... Where is this team mentally after taking back-to-back
- 0:32Speaker 1: defeats as a slight favorite in one and then as
- 0:37Speaker 1: a decent favorite in the other there in Neyland?
- 0:40Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I'll just do what some people have
- 0:43Speaker 2: done in the political world.
- 0:45Speaker 3: I could plead the fifth.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I'll be able to tell you by the end of
- 0:53Speaker 2: the first quarter in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, I really don't know.
- 0:57Speaker 2: where this team is mentally. Um, they were flat as
- 1:01Speaker 2: a pancake after the emotional, physical, and, uh, just, uh, just, uh,
- 1:06Speaker 2: you know, uh, high level game against Georgia. Uh, I
- 1:09Speaker 2: think they were, it seemed to me anyway, to be
- 1:13Speaker 2: physically and emotionally spent. Georgia certainly was, uh, they were
- 1:16Speaker 2: flat as a pancake against Auburn.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Auburn made some adjustments coming off the buy.
- 1:21Speaker 2: And then Gunner Stockton did not look like Brett Favre and, uh,
- 1:25Speaker 2: did make mistakes. And, Brett was known for his interceptions,
- 1:29Speaker 2: but again, I'll just say that Gunner had the best
- 1:32Speaker 2: game of his career against Alabama, played exceptionally high-level football,
- 1:36Speaker 2: but had three turnovers against Auburn that decided the game.
- 1:40Speaker 3: And then Alabama, same deal.
- 1:42Speaker 2: I mean, they came out, I thought, with one of
- 1:44Speaker 2: the worst offensive game plans I've ever seen at the
- 1:47Speaker 2: University of Alabama, especially for that environment at Tennessee, which
- 1:52Speaker 2: set noise decibel records, so of course what you do,
- 1:55Speaker 2: you come out and run RPOs where your quarterback's not comfortable,
- 1:58Speaker 2: in my opinion, doing that, and the tailback doesn't touch
- 2:02Speaker 2: the ball until the third series, and miraculously you.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Gain 17 yards, then you don't go back to it.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I mean, I just thought Grubbs' entire game plan was
- 2:12Speaker 2: a colossal failure, and then the offensive line got dominated.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I mean, Both lines of scrimmage did. It was a
- 2:20Speaker 2: line of scrimmage game. Tennessee came out. They knew they
- 2:22Speaker 2: were limited at quarterback with, you know, with the Georgia McIntyre,
- 2:27Speaker 2: and they knew what they had to do, and they
- 2:30Speaker 2: did a great job of, you know, helping him out
- 2:34Speaker 2: and going to the quick game, slants, high percentage stuff,
- 2:38Speaker 2: and then, of course, hammering the football, running the ball.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Alabama's defense for a half, just kind of like it
- 2:44Speaker 2: was kind of a re-replay of the Georgia game in
- 2:46Speaker 2: that sense. stopped the run decently for a half, stood
- 2:51Speaker 2: on their heads, were put in difficult positions, only gave
- 2:53Speaker 2: up four field goals, because trust me, this could have
- 2:55Speaker 2: been the ugliest Alabama-Tennessee game in the Tide history, because
- 2:59Speaker 2: this could have been 21 or 28, nothing at half,
- 3:01Speaker 2: and just been a colossal beatdown, but somehow, some way,
- 3:05Speaker 2: Alabama was only down 12-10 at the half, and you
- 3:09Speaker 2: held out a little hope that maybe they'd come out
- 3:11Speaker 2: of the locker room, make some adjustments like they did
- 3:13Speaker 2: against Kentucky, and win the game, but Pretty much the
- 3:16Speaker 2: game was over right after. They finally convert a couple
- 3:19Speaker 2: third downs. They were 0-7 in the first half. They
- 3:22Speaker 2: convert a couple. But then what really suddenly hit again
- 3:25Speaker 2: is after a nice scramble by Keelan Russell for seven yards,
- 3:30Speaker 2: you screw up a run on second down.
- 3:33Speaker 3: You come back. You decide to.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Throw the football and got a little bit of an
- 3:41Speaker 2: RPO to the tight end.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Throws inaccurate. He catches it.
- 3:44Speaker 2: He falls down a yard short. And then, of course,
- 3:46Speaker 2: you run a counter trade from the Joe Gibbs era
- 3:50Speaker 2: that's slow developing and gets stuffed on fourth down. And
- 3:54Speaker 2: basically it was over after that because Tennessee just played
- 3:57Speaker 2: keep away and Alabama's defense wore down. And, you know,
- 4:01Speaker 2: it's kind of interesting. But with both coordinators, it's kind
- 4:03Speaker 2: of a boom or bust. They try to create havoc
- 4:07Speaker 2: on defense and create turnovers. They did create a turnover
- 4:10Speaker 2: to set up their only touchdown on an interception, but
- 4:12Speaker 2: they didn't really come close to turning it over again
- 4:16Speaker 2: and getting that game-changing turnover because, honestly, when they got
- 4:20Speaker 2: the disastrous turnover for Tennessee with the kickoff return, or
- 4:23Speaker 2: excuse me, the punt, and the situation where they accidentally
- 4:28Speaker 2: touched a punted football and Alabama gets the ball at
- 4:31Speaker 2: the 22, you really, at that point in time, you
- 4:34Speaker 2: should have scored to take the lead at halftime. But instead,
- 4:37Speaker 2: you fumble it on fourth down because you try to
- 4:40Speaker 2: fool them. Instead of coming out of the timeout, running
- 4:43Speaker 2: the toss, using those tight ends you've been using all
- 4:46Speaker 2: year and getting physical, you try to put Rico Scott
- 4:50Speaker 2: at tailback. And they'd used this play once before, and
- 4:53Speaker 2: it worked. But they tried to sneak Daniel Hill in there.
- 4:55Speaker 2: They screwed the handoff up. Plus, you know, it just
- 5:00Speaker 2: seemed like Keelan was tripping over linemen's feet all game.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Just the whole thing was just discombobulated, the entire game
- 5:08Speaker 2: plan and I just felt like it was just they
- 5:10Speaker 2: were trying to fool people. It's like from the opening snap,
- 5:14Speaker 2: think about it. I mean, Ryan Coleman-Williams is out. So,
- 5:17Speaker 2: of course, you run an RPO trying to throw the
- 5:19Speaker 2: ball to Derek Meadows on first down, and Meadows has
- 5:21Speaker 2: got like three catches. Like, to me, and there's been
- 5:26Speaker 2: some excuse as well. Tennessee was trying to take this away.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I don't think they were trying to take away the
- 5:30Speaker 2: tight ends. I think they were trying to take away
- 5:33Speaker 2: Lottie Brooks. So to me, I think the lead dog
- 5:36Speaker 2: in this whole thing should have been Marshall Pritchett.
- 5:39Speaker 3: He should have caught double-digit passes.
- 5:41Speaker 2: You should have been going to him and Caleb Edwards early,
- 5:44Speaker 2: running the football early to settle the quarterback down, let
- 5:46Speaker 2: him get into the game like you did against Mississippi State,
- 5:50Speaker 2: and they just didn't do that. They totally abandoned the
- 5:53Speaker 2: running game. They put everything on the quarterback, and Keelan
- 5:57Speaker 2: was rattled and didn't play very well at all. Like
- 6:01Speaker 2: I say, you reap what you sow. But Alabama lost
- 6:03Speaker 2: the turnover battle, turned it over four times, 4-1. You're
- 6:07Speaker 2: just not going to win doing that against a team
- 6:10Speaker 2: like Tennessee or 4-2.
- 6:12Speaker 3: But still, I mean, I just thought it was a
- 6:14Speaker 3: terrible game plan.
- 6:15Speaker 2: And then I didn't think the game plan on defense
- 6:18Speaker 2: from Kane Womack was very good either.
- 6:20Speaker 3: They didn't man up. They didn't try to pressure.
- 6:23Speaker 2: They didn't– I never thought they affected George McIntyre. He
- 6:28Speaker 2: never looked rattled to me. They let him settle in.
- 6:31Speaker 2: And so I just thought all the way around it
- 6:33Speaker 2: was a colossal failure. And where we are now, that's
- 6:37Speaker 2: kind of what you asked to start the segment, TJ.
- 6:40Speaker 2: We're at a fork in the road. And I don't
- 6:42Speaker 2: just mean for the damn season. I mean for this
- 6:44Speaker 2: coaching staff. Now, am I saying something imminent is happening
- 6:49Speaker 2: because we've already had Michael Oxley, former Bama assistant, get
- 6:53Speaker 2: dismissed today at Maryland?
- 6:54Speaker 3: I don't think that. But I'll just say this.
- 6:57Speaker 2: The Fahrenheit on the seats– and the pressure is going
- 7:01Speaker 2: to go way up, and it can change quickly. It's
- 7:06Speaker 2: two and a half years or so into this, and
- 7:09Speaker 2: the same things keep happening. Looking unprepared on the road,
- 7:14Speaker 2: getting rattled, not playing physical football. I'm going to tell
- 7:18Speaker 2: your listeners what I've said on my show and on
- 7:21Speaker 2: a couple others.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Look, man, you've been around this game a long time.
- 7:26Speaker 3: I have.
- 7:27Speaker 2: When I was a young kid, my first memories of
- 7:30Speaker 2: Alabama football.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Were the mid-' 80s.
- 7:32Speaker 2: And, of course, that was the end of the Ray
- 7:34Speaker 2: Perkins era. He coached in 85 and 86. And then
- 7:38Speaker 2: they hired a guy from the ACC named– I don't
- 7:41Speaker 2: call him Bill. I call him William Curry because I'm
- 7:43Speaker 2: not a big fan of his. They hired William Curry
- 7:46Speaker 2: instead of Bobby Bowden. And, look, I know you're happy
- 7:48Speaker 2: about that.
- 7:49Speaker 4: It worked out okay in my seat.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. I mean, he went on.
- 7:54Speaker 4: He sits right up there.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Yeah, he went on.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Finished his Hall of Fame career in Tallahassee, which probably
- 7:59Speaker 2: is a good thing. I mean, he certainly established Florida
- 8:03Speaker 2: State as a power, won two national championships, and had
- 8:07Speaker 2: 14 straight top five finishes. Well, he was just in
- 8:11Speaker 2: the midst of building that in 1987 when he was
- 8:14Speaker 2: thinking about coming home to Birmingham. But Alabama decided to
- 8:17Speaker 2: hire William Curry. And, you know, William Curry was soft,
- 8:21Speaker 2: I always thought, and was a fake. and never liked
- 8:24Speaker 2: his style of football, even though the offense was fun
- 8:26Speaker 2: to watch. He won– for every big game he would win,
- 8:30Speaker 2: and it was ironic, he was undefeated against Tennessee, and
- 8:33Speaker 2: he was undefeated against Penn State, but he lost to
- 8:35Speaker 2: Memphis State, at that time Memphis State.
- 8:39Speaker 3: And then he.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Lost the first homecoming game in Alabama Crimson Tide history
- 8:43Speaker 2: to Ole Miss, and they didn't complete a forward pass.
- 8:46Speaker 2: And then he faked a brick being thrown through his window.
- 8:49Speaker 2: So he could garner national sympathy, but– Again, I never
- 8:53Speaker 2: liked William Curry, and as soon as this game unfolded,
- 8:57Speaker 2: this Alabama-Tennessee game, I was fooled. I thought this Alabama
- 9:03Speaker 2: staff was figuring some things out. The way they handled
- 9:06Speaker 2: the second half against Kentucky, which is a great win
- 9:08Speaker 2: right now, their best win, 32-0 in the second half,
- 9:12Speaker 2: running the football, running it against Mississippi State the entire game,
- 9:16Speaker 2: letting the quarterback settle in. And then even against Georgia,
- 9:19Speaker 2: competing the way they did, they ran the football in
- 9:21Speaker 2: that game, but everything went out the window on Saturday
- 9:26Speaker 2: in Knoxville, and they just reverted to everything that has
- 9:29Speaker 2: been wrong with this program since they got here.
- 9:32Speaker 3: And it was just soft football on both sides.
- 9:35Speaker 2: And, I mean, as soon as at the end of
- 9:37Speaker 2: the third quarter, you know, Kalen DeBoer, the sideline reporter
- 9:42Speaker 2: goes up to him, I think it's Katie George, and
- 9:44Speaker 2: she says, Coach, you guys are down 19-10.
- 9:46Speaker 3: How do you get your offense going?
- 9:48Speaker 2: And he says, I called everybody together and I looked
- 9:50Speaker 2: in their eyes and I know they're good. And then
- 9:56Speaker 2: after the game, he's, well, we talked to everybody.
- 9:59Speaker 3: We know we got them. leadership on the scene. We
- 10:00Speaker 3: know we've got the guys that turn this thing around.
- 10:02Speaker 3: We did it. We've done it before. We know we
- 10:04Speaker 3: got to get going. We looked in their eyes.
- 10:09Speaker 2: All I, all I, you know, I have really good
- 10:12Speaker 2: connections to the Alabama program and the William Curry era.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Now, all I need to.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Hear is, is do what Bill did before he played Auburn.
- 10:21Speaker 2: And what he did, and you're not going to believe this,
- 10:23Speaker 2: but it's God's honest truth. He handed everybody sheets with
- 10:26Speaker 2: lyrics on it, and they all sang One Moment in
- 10:29Speaker 2: Time by Whitney Houston. That's all I need to hear
- 10:34Speaker 2: now as they're listening to, as he gives them some
- 10:36Speaker 2: kind of DVD or some kind of CD or something
- 10:40Speaker 2: or some kind of, I don't know, MP3 or whatever.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Promise Notes. Yeah, we see all these things.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Yeah, you text them a song. I mean, that's all
- 10:46Speaker 3: I need to hear now.
- 10:48Speaker 2: But I'm just saying, in summation, I think this coaching
- 10:53Speaker 2: staff is at a crossroads because you can't talk physicality
- 10:58Speaker 2: and then not show it. And I think that there's
- 11:00Speaker 2: been a lot of fake toughness going on. Like, we're
- 11:03Speaker 2: going to run the football. We're going to be physical.
- 11:05Speaker 2: We've emphasized it. And then what do you do when
- 11:07Speaker 2: you go on the road to Tennessee? You play as
- 11:09Speaker 2: soft a game as I've ever seen. So I'm going
- 11:12Speaker 2: to be fascinated. to see how they play against Texas
- 11:15Speaker 2: A & M because A & M has not had
- 11:18Speaker 2: a good year.
- 11:18Speaker 3: You know that.
- 11:19Speaker 2: But they're talented and they're capable. And, you know, Ryan
- 11:23Speaker 2: Grubb tried to wear it. I didn't think Kane Womack did.
- 11:26Speaker 3: But I'm going to be.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Really interested to see how this team plays as a
- 11:29Speaker 2: whole and are they still invested and do they still
- 11:32Speaker 2: believe in their coach because I didn't see any pop
- 11:35Speaker 2: or energy at all. Now, some of that, people will say,
- 11:38Speaker 2: is because of the injuries and because of the aftermath
- 11:41Speaker 2: of the Georgia game.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Well.
- 11:43Speaker 2: That's in the rear view. You got your butts handed
- 11:46Speaker 2: to you by Tennessee. And as Marshall Pritchett said this
- 11:49Speaker 2: week to the media, we're playoff games from now going
- 11:53Speaker 2: forward because Alabama has no margin for error. So they
- 11:56Speaker 2: have a schedule that can enable them to make the playoff.
- 11:59Speaker 2: But guess what? Your next two games are going to
- 12:01Speaker 2: decide that. And they knew this was kind of an
- 12:04Speaker 2: amen corner going into it. They're already 0-2. And so
- 12:07Speaker 2: now you've got Texas A & M with Marcel Reed,
- 12:11Speaker 2: who's enigmatic but talented, a backfield with Reuben Owens that
- 12:17Speaker 2: hasn't lived up to it, but it has potential, and
- 12:20Speaker 2: then a defense that's been up and down.
- 12:23Speaker 3: And they're trying to save their season.
- 12:25Speaker 2: So it's going to be really fascinating to see how
- 12:27Speaker 2: they come out Saturday. And then you get a bye
- 12:30Speaker 2: week to get people healthy, but you're still going to
- 12:33Speaker 2: be without a lot of pieces like Ryan Coleman-Williams, like
- 12:35Speaker 2: Rayson Delgatti, probably Nozabian Brown. So how are you going
- 12:40Speaker 2: to react against A & M? Because then you've got
- 12:43Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin waiting after a bye week, and trust me
- 12:46Speaker 2: with this, there is no team except maybe the Ole
- 12:50Speaker 2: Miss Rebels that Lane Kiffin would rather beat. And he's
- 12:54Speaker 2: never beaten Alabama because the boogeyman was on the other side. Well,
- 12:58Speaker 2: the boogeyman's been retired, and this is his first shot
- 13:01Speaker 2: since then, and he would like nothing better than to
- 13:04Speaker 2: basically put the nail in the coffin of Alabama's season
- 13:06Speaker 2: because that's– you know, basically– If you don't win these
- 13:09Speaker 2: next two games, you're looking at something like the Duke's
- 13:13Speaker 2: Mayo Bowl, and nobody had those expectations going into the year.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Just before we go on, I will give some love
- 13:18Speaker 4: to Alumni Hall.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Listen, if you are looking for the best and largest
- 13:22Speaker 1: selection of game day apparel, Alumni Hall is your stop.
- 13:25Speaker 1: And because they appreciate you for listening to this show,
- 13:27Speaker 1: which we do as well, they'd really appreciate it if
- 13:29Speaker 1: you guys were subscribed. They want to give you 15%
- 13:32Speaker 1: off of your order. CFA 15 will save you 15%
- 13:35Speaker 1: at alumnihall.com or in-store.com. at any of their locations and
- 13:40Speaker 1: anything you buy online. CFA 15 is the code doesn't
- 13:44Speaker 1: sign you up for anything. It's not a monthly fee.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Make sure that you are hitting up alumni hall on
- 13:50Speaker 1: game day, leading up to game day in the off season.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Doesn't matter.
- 13:52Speaker 1: CFA 15. We appreciate you guys for watching and we
- 13:55Speaker 1: appreciate them for their support. You mentioned his interviews. I, um, I,
- 13:59Speaker 1: I know clips on the sideline get taken out of context.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Heck they get taken out of context on Mike Norvell
- 14:04Speaker 1: every single week, multiple times a week, you know, and
- 14:06Speaker 1: you see the funny memes, but, um, when they're showing
- 14:09Speaker 1: the decibel thing and you hear the crowd and you
- 14:12Speaker 1: panned it a bore and he just looks like he
- 14:14Speaker 1: is having a literal panic attack on the side.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Now he could have just been shaken off a coach.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Like he could have just been saying, no, we don't
- 14:21Speaker 1: know what was good. But just that image is like,
- 14:24Speaker 1: what's burned in my brain from that game is there.
- 14:29Speaker 1: They're showing the freaking world record for the decibel. And
- 14:34Speaker 1: he looks like he's having a heart attack on the sideline.
- 14:36Speaker 1: And you're like, Yeah, that just does not... Now, again,
- 14:40Speaker 1: maybe he's just shaking off a call.
- 14:42Speaker 4: We don't know.
- 14:43Speaker 1: But all we know is what we saw, man. It
- 14:45Speaker 1: didn't look good from a perception standpoint. So A &
- 14:48Speaker 1: M this week is kind of an opportunity for a
- 14:51Speaker 1: get-right game.
- 14:51Speaker 4: You are right. They do have talent.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Marcel Reed can do really special things at times.
- 14:57Speaker 3: And if he.
- 14:59Speaker 1: kind of reverts back to his very best, then yeah,
- 15:01Speaker 1: this could be tougher than you think, but it is
- 15:04Speaker 1: at home.
- 15:05Speaker 4: You're a two score favorite for a reason.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Like this should be the opportunity for, for Alabama to
- 15:11Speaker 1: go into the bi-week with some confidence and, and really
- 15:14Speaker 1: kind of know, Hey, if we take care of business,
- 15:18Speaker 1: against LSU if we go into Death Valley and win
- 15:21Speaker 1: we would have to I don't even know shoot ourselves
- 15:23Speaker 1: in the foot is the right word we would have
- 15:24Speaker 1: to chop our leg off to to not make the
- 15:27Speaker 1: playoff you know you're not losing to Vandy you're not
- 15:29Speaker 1: losing to Chattanooga and Auburn just doesn't seem to win
- 15:31Speaker 1: in Brian Denny right so not that that one can't
- 15:33Speaker 1: get weird with it being a rivalry but I don't want.
- 15:37Speaker 4: To call it just a two-game season because you do have.
- 15:39Speaker 1: To go take care of uh business but I do
- 15:43Speaker 1: think this is really an opportunity for you to get
- 15:45Speaker 1: a lot more confidence back that may be lost against
- 15:49Speaker 1: an A & M team that Bama should be a
- 15:50Speaker 1: lot better than.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Well, I mean, going into the season, this was considered
- 15:56Speaker 2: by some to be more of a toss-up game because
- 15:58Speaker 2: you remember A & M was a top-ten team, really
- 16:00Speaker 2: ranked ahead of Alabama going into the season. But some
- 16:03Speaker 2: of their personnel moves, they've had injuries as well, haven't
- 16:06Speaker 2: worked out.
- 16:07Speaker 3: But again, Alabama's got.
- 16:09Speaker 2: To get this win because Alabama, You want to quell
- 16:12Speaker 2: and calm the masses a little bit.
- 16:16Speaker 3: As you said, TJ, they still have everything in front
- 16:18Speaker 3: of them.
- 16:19Speaker 2: In my opinion, especially this year with as crazy as
- 16:22Speaker 2: college football has been, and that was as crazy as
- 16:24Speaker 2: Saturday as I remember, if you're Alabama, this year I'd
- 16:29Speaker 2: almost want to win out and not be in Atlanta.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Let Ole Miss go for the first time, whatever. Let
- 16:35Speaker 3: them play Georgia.
- 16:36Speaker 4: You got enough of those trophies?
- 16:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:39Speaker 4: Don't go get beat up in that thing.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Exactly. Yeah. It's pointless.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Try to get into the playoff, and if you're 10-2
- 16:46Speaker 2: at that point, you have a chance, but you can't
- 16:49Speaker 2: make a mistake.
- 16:50Speaker 3: You've got to beat A & M. You're going to
- 16:51Speaker 3: have to beat LSU, and I'm going to be watching
- 16:54Speaker 3: Auburn LSU at 11 a.m. very closely.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Did Auburn have a one shining moment, or have they
- 17:02Speaker 2: found something? with running their QB, Byron Brown, 25 times
- 17:07Speaker 2: a game. Did they find something on defense by getting
- 17:10Speaker 2: rid of Xavier Adkins, who was one of their, I
- 17:13Speaker 2: thought to be, top three or four players overall and
- 17:16Speaker 2: best defender coming into the season and had played well statistically,
- 17:22Speaker 2: but behind the scenes, I think he was kind of
- 17:24Speaker 2: a train wreck off the field, and I think, too,
- 17:26Speaker 2: on the field, he was kind of trying to do
- 17:28Speaker 2: his own thing. And so you kind of, It's addition
- 17:33Speaker 2: by subtraction. You sit him and then eventually dismiss him.
- 17:36Speaker 2: You put Bryce Dees in there with Elijah Melendez, and
- 17:39Speaker 2: this Auburn defense holds Georgia to 115 rushing yards, spots
- 17:44Speaker 2: them a 14-point lead, and comes back to win the
- 17:47Speaker 2: game at the buzzer, and at one point even led
- 17:51Speaker 2: by 10. And that changes the environment at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
- 17:56Speaker 2: If they lose to Georgia like they had the previous
- 17:59Speaker 2: nine years and get whacked, then There's a chance that
- 18:03Speaker 2: Jordan-Hare is kind of flat on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
- 18:07Speaker 2: LSU can come in there, take care of business. Now
- 18:10Speaker 2: it's going to be a situation where are we back?
- 18:13Speaker 2: That's what Auburn's thinking. Are we back to being a
- 18:16Speaker 2: contender again? Can we recreate the magic of Jordan-Hare Stadium?
- 18:22Speaker 2: And we're going to see because LSU's coming in there
- 18:24Speaker 2: at 11 a.m. Both of these teams are fighting for
- 18:27Speaker 2: their seasons, and if Auburn can win that game and
- 18:31Speaker 2: win two in a row, That changes their October completely
- 18:34Speaker 2: and their outlook. They're actually a contender, and Alabama might
- 18:39Speaker 2: have a much bigger battle on their hands at the
- 18:41Speaker 2: end of the season in Bryant-Denny Stadium than anticipated. But
- 18:45Speaker 2: if LSU comes in there, drops an anvil, and then
- 18:49Speaker 2: Auburn realizes, okay, we had one moment in time.
- 18:52Speaker 3: There we go.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Kind of funny I went back to that, huh?
- 18:55Speaker 4: Full circle.
- 18:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:57Speaker 2: If that's the case, then maybe Alabama can get right
- 19:00Speaker 2: against A & M.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Then.
- 19:02Speaker 3: LSU.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Will be in despair because, you know, it would be
- 19:08Speaker 2: funny because you either get LSU where a situation where
- 19:11Speaker 2: they would be in complete chaos because they're already out
- 19:14Speaker 2: of the playoff, unbelievably, heading over there to Baton Rouge,
- 19:18Speaker 2: or if they take care of Auburn, then Red Stick's
- 19:21Speaker 2: going to be on fire because both teams will be
- 19:23Speaker 2: fighting for their season, and Lane would like nothing better
- 19:26Speaker 2: than to end Alabama's playoff hopes.
- 19:29Speaker 3: And, of course, the Tides had a lot of success
- 19:31Speaker 3: in Baton Rouge.
- 19:32Speaker 2: You know, Kalen DeBoer's 2-0 against LSU, but he's never
- 19:36Speaker 2: faced Lane Kiffin. So it's going to be really interesting
- 19:40Speaker 2: how the outcomes of both of these games, Alabama-Texas A
- 19:44Speaker 2: & M, Auburn-LSU, is going to go a long way
- 19:48Speaker 2: toward deciding what kind of seasons. Because I think A
- 19:53Speaker 2: & M' s already done. So it'll be interesting to see
- 19:56Speaker 2: how hard they fight coming off of what was basically
- 19:59Speaker 2: a bye week against the Citadel. But if Alabama can
- 20:02Speaker 2: take care of A & M, they've got a ton
- 20:04Speaker 2: to play for. You've got LSU next. It's a big rivalry.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin But if Auburn beats them, are they going
- 20:12Speaker 2: to just be in the tank? But if they take
- 20:16Speaker 2: care of Auburn, everything's on the table for them as well,
- 20:20Speaker 2: which means it's going to be a hornet's nest, which
- 20:23Speaker 2: Alabama should be used to. But look, I mean, we've
- 20:27Speaker 2: already seen Cale and DeBoer's teams not react well on
- 20:30Speaker 2: the road at times, even though his first year they
- 20:32Speaker 2: did go to red stick and win. But that's Brian
- 20:34Speaker 2: Kelly's red stick. This isn't Lane Kiffin's. there's just a
- 20:38Speaker 2: lot of storylines to follow, but I think you'll know
- 20:42Speaker 2: by the end of the first quarter, because I've watched
- 20:45Speaker 2: enough Kaelin DeBoer football. If Alabama starts well, they generally
- 20:49Speaker 2: play well. If they start slowly, only example of them
- 20:53Speaker 2: doing that or a couple of them is Kentucky earlier
- 20:56Speaker 2: this year and Oklahoma in the playoff last year, where
- 20:59Speaker 2: we saw some adjustments and we saw them rally. So, uh,
- 21:03Speaker 2: but most of the time when they start slow, it doesn't,
- 21:06Speaker 2: it doesn't end well. So I'm expecting a faster start
- 21:09Speaker 2: and some passion from these guys.
- 21:11Speaker 3: But, again, I know I was joking with you about
- 21:14Speaker 3: playing the fifth.
- 21:15Speaker 2: I really don't know what to expect, and that's why
- 21:18Speaker 2: I kind of told you, check with me after.
- 21:21Speaker 3: The first quarter. We'll know.
- 21:23Speaker 2: And we'll know what Alabama, what version of Alabama we're
- 21:27Speaker 2: potentially getting. And I think it needs to be play action,
- 21:31Speaker 2: run the football early, and let Keelan Russell settle in.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Let's not have him having to be the hero again.
- 21:37Speaker 2: and make every play.
- 21:40Speaker 1: If it's good news, I'll text you. And whatever you say,
- 21:42Speaker 1: I'll screenshot and post on the channel. If it's bad news,
- 21:44Speaker 1: I'll wait till after the game and see if they
- 21:45Speaker 1: respond to halftime. Cause I won't, I won't give you,
- 21:48Speaker 1: I don't like what people text me during the game.
- 21:49Speaker 1: So I, if it's, but if it's good, if you're
- 21:51Speaker 1: up 17 to three or something, then I won't bother
- 21:54Speaker 1: bothering you. What is the one thing we talked about
- 21:56Speaker 1: a and M for a moment, but what is the
- 21:58Speaker 1: one thing specifically, just not, not necessarily a mindset, not
- 22:01Speaker 1: necessarily big picture, what DeBoer and the staff need to do.
- 22:05Speaker 4: What's the one thing you want to see Bama clean
- 22:07Speaker 4: up from last week?
- 22:08Speaker 1: Like, you know, run game, Keelan's decision-making, offensive line, something
- 22:13Speaker 1: on the defense, which I thought the defense was mostly good,
- 22:15Speaker 1: gave him a chance to stay in this thing when
- 22:17Speaker 1: the offense was doing nothing in the first half. But
- 22:20Speaker 1: what was the one thing you want to see in
- 22:21Speaker 1: this game?
- 22:22Speaker 4: And then we'll wrap up and get out of here
- 22:24Speaker 4: in a few.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Line play on both sides, man.
- 22:27Speaker 2: I want to see the offensive line playing with a
- 22:30Speaker 2: physicality and then trying to establish the run, and then
- 22:34Speaker 2: I want to see Alabama's run defense making A &
- 22:37Speaker 2: M one-dimensional and making Marcel Reed beat them. If I
- 22:41Speaker 2: see the improved line play on both sides of the ball,
- 22:44Speaker 2: then I think Alabama's going to win, because if you
- 22:46Speaker 2: look at Alabama's wins when they started 5-0, TJ, the
- 22:50Speaker 2: line play was really good on both sides, and I
- 22:53Speaker 2: didn't think it was bad against Georgia. I just thought
- 22:56Speaker 2: they lost to a really good football team, but You know,
- 23:00Speaker 2: that old mantra, don't let them beat you twice. Well,
- 23:03Speaker 2: Alabama talked about that all week, but then they weren't
- 23:05Speaker 2: prepared for Tennessee, who I think they mimicked a lot
- 23:08Speaker 2: of things Georgia was doing. They mimicked they wanted to
- 23:11Speaker 2: go out and play physical and throw the first punch.
- 23:14Speaker 2: I want to see Alabama throw the first punch on
- 23:16Speaker 2: Saturday against A & M.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I think Alabama does kind of roll here. Hey, Red Stick,
- 23:23Speaker 1: by the way, for those that don't know, the English
- 23:24Speaker 1: translation of Baton Rouge. You get a lot more than
- 23:27Speaker 1: you bargained for by listening to me and Drew ramble
- 23:29Speaker 1: on about football. I do have one other non-football thing
- 23:32Speaker 1: to talk to you about in just a moment, too.
- 23:34Speaker 1: But I'll save it for after the prediction. I kind
- 23:37Speaker 1: of like Alabama to roll here, no pun intended.
- 23:40Speaker 4: See, I can do it, too.
- 23:42Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Give me something like.
- 23:45Speaker 4: I think they play well at home. I do think
- 23:46Speaker 4: they bounce back.
- 23:47Speaker 1: I think that's something they've shown last week was the
- 23:49Speaker 1: first time they've, um, you know, you've never had to
- 23:52Speaker 1: see what a Kalen board team looks like after two losses,
- 23:55Speaker 1: because I think last week was the first time they've
- 23:56Speaker 1: ever lost coming off of a loss. So I think
- 23:59Speaker 1: you do see a bounce back. I just, I also
- 24:01Speaker 1: think that it is a get right game. I just
- 24:03Speaker 1: think A & M is not in.
- 24:04Speaker 4: A great spot right now.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I think Bama comes out flying around something like 31, 17, 34, 17.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Like I think they win somewhat comfortably. I think you're
- 24:13Speaker 1: in a fairly good mood. I think even that last
- 24:14Speaker 1: touchdown for A & M could come in the fourth quarter,
- 24:19Speaker 1: garbage time-ish. So I think Bama rolls here. What's your score?
- 24:24Speaker 2: My first initial thought was 31-24, but I just thought
- 24:28Speaker 2: more about Alabama's struggles the last two weeks offensively. And
- 24:33Speaker 2: then A & M especially, they haven't been able to
- 24:35Speaker 2: throw the football effectively. Their run game has struggled. I
- 24:39Speaker 2: got 27-16 Alabama. I don't think they cover, but I
- 24:42Speaker 2: think the defense can hold it into some field goals,
- 24:45Speaker 2: and I think Alabama with Keelan Russell will make enough plays.
- 24:49Speaker 2: I don't think it'll be pretty, but I think it'll
- 24:51Speaker 2: be a 27-16 Alabama win.
- 24:54Speaker 1: The last thing I want to tell you about before
- 24:56Speaker 1: we get out of here, I'm going to have to
- 24:57Speaker 1: get you.
- 24:58Speaker 4: I'm four games away.
- 25:00Speaker 1: From sending you a raise hat to wear when you
- 25:02Speaker 1: come on this show, like there's.
- 25:04Speaker 4: No, right. Like we're not rivals. We're not in the
- 25:06Speaker 4: same league. You can throw it away.
- 25:08Speaker 1: If we ever both are in the world series, they,
- 25:09Speaker 1: but I'm four games away from sending you a raise hat.
- 25:11Speaker 4: So just, just keep that in mind.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Hey, I'll add it to the collection.
- 25:14Speaker 2: I got about 250. I, uh, I'm going, well, hopefully,
- 25:20Speaker 2: hopefully it gets there, but I'm going to game five.
- 25:23Speaker 1: So don't get swept. If you sweep them, I would
- 25:25Speaker 1: be a little upset. I won't be terribly upset, but
- 25:27Speaker 1: if we go up three, I'll, I'll cheer for us
- 25:28Speaker 1: to lose game four. And then, and then so I
- 25:31Speaker 1: can go to game five and watch them win it all,
- 25:33Speaker 1: but going to game five. So hopefully we, we make
- 25:35Speaker 1: it that far.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Awesome, man. Definitely. I'll take it.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Take a, take just a sec to tell people where
- 25:40Speaker 1: they can find you, what you got coming this week,
- 25:42Speaker 1: and then we'll get out of here.
