- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is backlo everybody, It's Jeff Mosher Adam
- 0:16Speaker 1: Kaplan inside the Birds. And if you're watching this on YouTube,
- 0:19Speaker 1: or even if you're listening, you know that Adam and
- 0:21Speaker 1: I we have survived the Great Snowstorm of twenty twenty six.
- 0:27Speaker 1: It's pretty rough out there. We hope everybody has managed it.
- 0:30Speaker 2: How much?
- 0:30Speaker 1: How much your way?
- 0:31Speaker 2: Brother? So we got eight inches? Yeah, I mean, the
- 0:35Speaker 2: problem the cool things the snow stopped around noon, But
- 0:38Speaker 2: the problem is after that the damn sleet and rain
- 0:42Speaker 2: and it made the snow heavier lot. My wife, to
- 0:46Speaker 2: her credit, you know, we bought she begged me to
- 0:50Speaker 2: purchase snowblower like a dozen years ago because the kids
- 0:52Speaker 2: used to handle everyone in our street. They stopped and
- 0:55Speaker 2: I guess they got too old so they stopped doing it,
- 0:57Speaker 2: and I was all right, I'm gonna do it. I'm
- 0:59Speaker 2: gonna buy snow blow. Well then it didn't snow for
- 1:01Speaker 2: five years.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:03Speaker 2: We maybe used it four or five times, and one
- 1:05Speaker 2: of them was a couple of months ago when we
- 1:06Speaker 2: got a first now fall like six inches. So in
- 1:09Speaker 2: this one, yeah, I mean, we'll see. Yeah, we have
- 1:11Speaker 2: to we have to take care of it later today again.
- 1:14Speaker 2: But uh now I'm flying out the suner ball today.
- 1:16Speaker 2: So that's my blue light blocking lanster for people want
- 1:19Speaker 2: to make fun of me I wear yeah, yeah, yeah
- 1:22Speaker 2: I do.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Where the YouTube commentors are going to have fun with you.
- 1:25Speaker 2: That's final. I don't know what it is. Yeah, it's
- 1:28Speaker 2: it's for those of us who like to set our
- 1:31Speaker 2: circadian rhythm. For those of your advanced like me, it's
- 1:34Speaker 2: just it helps with sleep and stress and all that stuff.
- 1:37Speaker 2: It just actually it really does work. Believe it or not.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Believe it or not. I believe it.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I believe it. I've heard that's good. That's awesome, and yeah,
- 1:45Speaker 1: save travels, my friend, and we'll obviously do uh I'll
- 1:48Speaker 1: be back up here north, but we'll do some stuff
- 1:51Speaker 1: getting your your takes on what you hear down there
- 1:53Speaker 1: in in uh Mobile, Alabama, which you know, it could
- 1:57Speaker 1: be thirty degrees, it could be seventy degrees.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Can quit bad. Oh, thirties thirties, high thirties, low forties.
- 2:04Speaker 2: One year it was seventies and we were like, this
- 2:07Speaker 2: is not this is crazy. You know, I got the
- 2:08Speaker 2: farmer's town on my back, on my neck yep. But
- 2:11Speaker 2: now this one's bad. I mean, I'm bringing winter winter clothes. Yes, right,
- 2:16Speaker 2: that's right.
- 2:16Speaker 1: We were there last year. Right, it was beautiful last year.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I think that was the year, right it was really warm.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, it was in the fifty sixty one year
- 2:23Speaker 2: was in the low seventies, and like the whole So
- 2:25Speaker 2: I'm making this a shortertrip trip. I'm not going for
- 2:27Speaker 2: three days, right, because the last day is the Thursday's
- 2:31Speaker 2: practice is light. It's like a Friday practice. The NFL
- 2:34Speaker 2: t like an hour yep, and it's so light. Now,
- 2:36Speaker 2: I know a couple times when I didn't go something
- 2:38Speaker 2: like some dude went off. Might have been Cooper Cup
- 2:41Speaker 2: in twenty seventeen. I never remember, like god, why did
- 2:43Speaker 2: I Why did I see it?
- 2:45Speaker 1: Right?
- 2:45Speaker 2: Because I was looking at social media and people like going,
- 2:47Speaker 2: oh whoever it might have been Cooper Cup. I don't
- 2:50Speaker 2: remember who it was with, someone who became a really
- 2:51Speaker 2: good NFL player, and I'm like, oh man, But again,
- 2:54Speaker 2: it's it's for such a light practice.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Plus you have I don't know how the Senior Bowl
- 2:59Speaker 1: gets around this, and I don't know if they care
- 3:01Speaker 1: about it, but you do have about I don't know
- 3:04Speaker 1: what five to seven guys who will look really nice
- 3:06Speaker 1: in the first practice or two and then shut it
- 3:09Speaker 1: down and not even play in the game. And you
- 3:12Speaker 1: said they'll leave before that, even that last Thursday.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Which just happened, by the way, and then the all
- 3:16Speaker 2: time stories when a tall corner about six foot four
- 3:21Speaker 2: was a replacement. He was from Stanford and he got
- 3:25Speaker 2: flown in and it was Richard Sherman. I'll never forget that, Like,
- 3:29Speaker 2: who is who? Who is this dude? Like you don't
- 3:31Speaker 2: see corners typically over six to one, and it sure
- 3:34Speaker 2: helped him, but he was his own corner heat because
- 3:37Speaker 2: of his length. You know, you turn hip turning and
- 3:39Speaker 2: all that. And Pete carl and John Schneider did a
- 3:43Speaker 2: great job of understanding what that is. But singabol as
- 3:46Speaker 2: we move along here, you gotta be careful for overrating it.
- 3:48Speaker 2: It's take it for what it is. It is. It's
- 3:51Speaker 2: being coached by NFL assistant coaches. That's really big. They
- 3:55Speaker 2: used to do it. We used to take you. It
- 3:58Speaker 2: switched from over the years now to a bunch of
- 4:00Speaker 2: different coaches. But it used to be the worst teams
- 4:03Speaker 2: in the NFL, like the thirty, like the last two.
- 4:07Speaker 2: One year was Marty. I think it was Marty morning Wagon.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Might have been Marty Marty with the Lions, but I remember.
- 4:13Speaker 2: And then they would take the runners up to for
- 4:15Speaker 2: the like the who didn't make it to the player
- 4:17Speaker 2: like they were the ones who just got eliminated where
- 4:19Speaker 2: the playoffs started. And now it's just a bunch of
- 4:22Speaker 2: North team South team, and they take coaches from everywhere.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Yeah, by the way, now that I think about it
- 4:27Speaker 1: on a second, is that last year because we were
- 4:30Speaker 1: both down there last year. I remember we talked to
- 4:32Speaker 1: Governor Shapiro. We did a zoom with him about the
- 4:33Speaker 1: Eagles in the Super Bowl from But what strikes me
- 4:37Speaker 1: is there was a quarterback from Canada that US and
- 4:41Speaker 1: I don't know whatever happened to him. I never made it.
- 4:44Speaker 1: He was a project. He gets drafted. Yeah, it's a.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Tall kid who the word in scouting was and some
- 4:50Speaker 2: folks really far scotten. Might he might have been signed
- 4:53Speaker 2: his undraft for Freacher by the Packags without looking his
- 4:55Speaker 2: name up. But I remember because there was a big
- 4:57Speaker 2: buzz in the scouting committee with his kid, and he
- 5:00Speaker 2: bleep the bad when he was there. That way, he
- 5:01Speaker 2: just it became too big for him. He did. I'm like, okay,
- 5:04Speaker 2: I mean it's some Canadian school, I guess yep, But man,
- 5:08Speaker 2: he could see he had an arm, but no accuracy. Right,
- 5:11Speaker 2: A tall, tall kid, angler body, Yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Pretty good athlete. Just you're right, you just had had trouble.
- 5:17Speaker 1: That's where you get to senior boy. You get some
- 5:18Speaker 1: guys you may never heard of trying to make it there.
- 5:20Speaker 1: So and maybe when you're down there, Adam, you will
- 5:24Speaker 1: get even more intel than you already have and that
- 5:26Speaker 1: we've already had on the Eagles OC search, because that
- 5:29Speaker 1: will be continuing. What a week it's been, or the
- 5:32Speaker 1: last few days, even since our last podcast it's been
- 5:35Speaker 1: for the situation. So we'll get into that, and then
- 5:38Speaker 1: we'll start this sort of two part series looking at
- 5:40Speaker 1: the roster, and we'll go through the offense, which is
- 5:43Speaker 1: apropos since they need an offensive coordinator and any intel
- 5:47Speaker 1: that we've got on the roster right now, and then
- 5:48Speaker 1: we'll do defense in another episode. But let's let's get
- 5:51Speaker 1: to the OC situation. You've got people who, I mean,
- 5:56Speaker 1: like Bobby Slowik was a was a person who interviewed
- 5:59Speaker 1: I think people have to be careful, right when you
- 6:01Speaker 1: see a guy like Bobby Sloan who interviewed for the
- 6:04Speaker 1: job but stayed in Miami and is going to be
- 6:06Speaker 1: their offensive coordinator, And people say, oh, that's another guy
- 6:09Speaker 1: choosing a different team over the Eagles. You don't know.
- 6:12Speaker 1: There's no information that he was offered the offensive coordinator job.
- 6:16Speaker 1: He just interviewed for it. So I don't want people
- 6:18Speaker 1: to get carried away too much with what they hear
- 6:20Speaker 1: on some of these names.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Yeah, no question, Yeah, so he just he stayed with
- 6:25Speaker 2: the Dolphins and he got the OC tag. And to
- 6:28Speaker 2: be honest with you, his situation, he was like the
- 6:32Speaker 2: darling in the NFL coaching CJ Stratus first year Strata,
- 6:35Speaker 2: one of the best seasons ever for rookie quarterback. Strata
- 6:38Speaker 2: has been on a regression. There are plenty of it.
- 6:40Speaker 2: There are plenty of issues around him. But man, this
- 6:43Speaker 2: is second year. You can make excuses for him. You
- 6:45Speaker 2: can't make excuses after this season. Correct it just he
- 6:48Speaker 2: was he plays, He was horrendous. But the problem with
- 6:52Speaker 2: Sloak was he'd never been a position coach. Ever he
- 6:55Speaker 2: still has not been, and he basically had trouble connecting
- 7:01Speaker 2: with the players, particularly the quarterback and the micklel. Rohns
- 7:05Speaker 2: was aware of it. He fired him because I was.
- 7:09Speaker 2: I was when it when it got out that he
- 7:12Speaker 2: was fired, I was like, what he didn't he's in
- 7:14Speaker 2: for head coach of top slasher?
- 7:15Speaker 1: What the hell?
- 7:16Speaker 2: Then? You know, you know, you hear from people close
- 7:19Speaker 2: the situation, you go, Okay, really smart guy. I mean, honestly,
- 7:25Speaker 2: him trying to coach Hurts or any veteran quarterback, I
- 7:29Speaker 2: don't know. Good luck?
- 7:30Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that would have been interesting. I agree with you.
- 7:34Speaker 1: So the search goes on. Now what do you know
- 7:35Speaker 1: about some other candidates or people think he interested in?
- 7:40Speaker 2: All right, so we'd heard, you know, I called you
- 7:42Speaker 2: over the weekend and then it got out I guess
- 7:44Speaker 2: Sunday afternoon, but we could confirm we we have more information. So, uh,
- 7:49Speaker 2: the Eagles put a slip in. That's the term as
- 7:52Speaker 2: the person I spoke to who told me Philly put
- 7:54Speaker 2: a slip in? What do you do? Is you? I
- 7:56Speaker 2: guess you fax it in to the whatever electronic flat packs?
- 8:01Speaker 2: What am I talking about? Probably twenty years ago they did,
- 8:03Speaker 2: but now obviously they email it and they put a
- 8:05Speaker 2: request in and were denied to interview. Not Decklan Doyle,
- 8:09Speaker 2: Clayton Adams and why Clayton Adams. Clayton Adams is the
- 8:13Speaker 2: offensive cornator, non non play calling OC for the Cowboys
- 8:17Speaker 2: because Nick Serianni work with him when Nick was the
- 8:20Speaker 2: YOC and Clayton Adams was an assistant under Nick with
- 8:24Speaker 2: the Colts for a couple of seasons and it became
- 8:26Speaker 2: the Eagles head coach. Then Adam stayed there with the
- 8:30Speaker 2: Colts for two seasons, then then moved on And we'll
- 8:34Speaker 2: get into his background really quickly, and then we can
- 8:36Speaker 2: move on. His background is on offensive line. He was
- 8:41Speaker 2: actually the Cardinals offensive line coach twenty three and twenty
- 8:44Speaker 2: four and was hired by Brian Chottenhammer to be as OC.
- 8:47Speaker 2: But Shotty calls the plays. He's also coached tight ends.
- 8:50Speaker 2: But the thing is by the rules and they've been adjusted.
- 8:53Speaker 2: They were adjusted in twenty twenty then last year. You
- 8:57Speaker 2: can block even if it says them the slip because
- 8:59Speaker 2: you have to put it on there on the form
- 9:02Speaker 2: that you turn in. It's okay, what position and what
- 9:04Speaker 2: were the will be the responsibilities. You have to make
- 9:06Speaker 2: it clear. Yes you could still block them, but you can't.
- 9:09Speaker 2: This is interesting to see. This is where I don't
- 9:11Speaker 2: agree with this. You should not be able to block
- 9:12Speaker 2: a guy. Yes, it's the same title, but he would
- 9:16Speaker 2: be calling plays. It's just it's a move up right,
- 9:20Speaker 2: It's it's not a lateral move. But by responsibility, it's
- 9:24Speaker 2: not good.
- 9:25Speaker 1: You're saying if he was Dallas's run game coordinator instead
- 9:30Speaker 1: of offensive coordinator, he'd be allowed to yet Eagles. And
- 9:34Speaker 1: the funny thing is, from what I understand, that's his specialty.
- 9:36Speaker 1: You said offensive line. Yeah, offensive line and run game,
- 9:39Speaker 1: and he was really good at that. Also with Arizona
- 9:41Speaker 1: they had too by the way, and tight ends right
- 9:44Speaker 1: they had. The Cardinals had a really good run game
- 9:46Speaker 1: the first two years under Drew pettsing and with Adams there,
- 9:50Speaker 1: and obviously Dallas's run game was really good. But it
- 9:53Speaker 1: hurts him to be considered the OC to get this
- 9:55Speaker 1: job even though he doesn't call plays, even though it
- 9:58Speaker 1: would be a promotion here in Philadelphia. But he can
- 10:01Speaker 1: be blocked, like you're saying, because it's considered lateral, O
- 10:03Speaker 1: c OC, you can block that stupid. That is dumb.
- 10:07Speaker 1: That is dumb.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I know the league is doing their best. They've the bit.
- 10:12Speaker 2: There was a major change in twenty twenty, because basically
- 10:16Speaker 2: you could block anyone for any reason unless it's for
- 10:18Speaker 2: a head coaching job. Yeah, and that's just so's you know.
- 10:21Speaker 2: And by the way, it was the role for many
- 10:23Speaker 2: years and some really talent coaches got aft.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh listen, I remember Spagnolo under Andy, you know,
- 10:30Speaker 1: Andy one year I believe blocked him, right and from
- 10:33Speaker 1: I forget what job.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Oh, and de Filippo was blocked if you recall John D.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Flippo was blocked from he was Egales quarterbacks coach. He
- 10:41Speaker 2: was going to be the OC for Todd Bowles Balls
- 10:42Speaker 2: was going to hire him, right, he had an interview.
- 10:44Speaker 2: You just have to go through the interview process. But
- 10:47Speaker 2: that was the twenty seventeen that was before this, That
- 10:49Speaker 2: was in like, uh February of twenty seventeen. So yeah,
- 10:53Speaker 2: it's it's it's an awful role. The league still doesn't
- 10:55Speaker 2: get it right that. I don't care what the type.
- 10:58Speaker 2: How many ten years have we said this? For now
- 11:00Speaker 2: for nine years with the Eagles especially, it's not the title.
- 11:02Speaker 2: It's about what they actually do. It's a perfect temple.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Yep. And by the way, I definitely enjoy sort of
- 11:08Speaker 1: the cat and mouse here as the Cowboys took Christian
- 11:11Speaker 1: Parker to be their defense coordinator and the Eagles were
- 11:14Speaker 1: trying to take Clayton Adams.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Not that no one had an interview with the other.
- 11:18Speaker 2: It's just no, no, no, I'm just enjoying the cat
- 11:20Speaker 2: and mouse it is. It's hilarious. I didn't thought of
- 11:22Speaker 2: it that way, but it's really interesting. But yeah, that
- 11:25Speaker 2: it's the word i'd gotten at the start of this.
- 11:29Speaker 2: You know what I always like to ask people, Okay,
- 11:31Speaker 2: what do you know? Like? How long does this take?
- 11:33Speaker 2: The word I got on a typical hiring an offense
- 11:36Speaker 2: coordinator in the National Football from scratch, where let's say
- 11:39Speaker 2: your guy gets hired away typically takes two weeks. You
- 11:41Speaker 2: got to get through the Rooney rule and you have
- 11:44Speaker 2: to interview two minorities. Look, you can also hire. If
- 11:47Speaker 2: you like a guy, you hire them, but it's sometimes
- 11:51Speaker 2: they're done early, they're done last. But anyway, it's Rooney roll.
- 11:57Speaker 2: You typically have a list of six to eight people
- 12:00Speaker 2: and you go through everybody and and then what you
- 12:03Speaker 2: do is you every once in a while, you don't
- 12:06Speaker 2: get a second interview. Just the guy's so great, you
- 12:08Speaker 2: interview you like you don't even go to the second interview, right,
- 12:12Speaker 2: But in this case, at this point you to hope
- 12:15Speaker 2: they it's hired by the Combine. Yeah, I drive away,
- 12:18Speaker 2: but we're.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Here, really And just on top of that, with Denard
- 12:22Speaker 1: Wilson likely going to uh the Giants to be Hardball's defense,
- 12:28Speaker 1: pretty interesting. I mean, like you've got, you know, one
- 12:31Speaker 1: guy from your own chain here in Parker who's going
- 12:34Speaker 1: to Dallas to be one rival defensive coordinator, and then
- 12:36Speaker 1: another guy who you had in your building and really
- 12:39Speaker 1: pissed off by not making him defensive coordinator now with
- 12:43Speaker 1: your other rival. So it's, uh, you know, everybody's got
- 12:46Speaker 1: the Eagles in their crosshairs now, and two people familiar
- 12:48Speaker 1: with their program and what they do are now going
- 12:51Speaker 1: to be coaching against them. So so so interestingly, let's
- 12:55Speaker 1: talk about some other candidates. Dicklan Doyle was a guy
- 12:58Speaker 1: that they brought in. I got some interesting feedback on him,
- 13:01Speaker 1: wondering what you've heard about him.
- 13:03Speaker 2: There are coaches connected to him who told us over
- 13:06Speaker 2: the weekend that they think he is leaning towards staying
- 13:10Speaker 2: if he hasn't even been off of the job. But
- 13:12Speaker 2: I'm saying he's leaning towards staying in chicag because he's
- 13:15Speaker 2: only twenty nine, hasn't called plays. He needs more seasoning,
- 13:20Speaker 2: is what someone told me. So nothing official yet, but
- 13:23Speaker 2: that's what this person who must know him thinks or
- 13:27Speaker 2: who is relayed to him. So we'll see coaches, no
- 13:29Speaker 2: coaches pretty well and looking. The interesting thing about this is, yes,
- 13:35Speaker 2: Egles would have liked this done the previous week. But
- 13:38Speaker 2: the cool thing about it is you're going through a
- 13:41Speaker 2: lengthy list of very talented young coaches. You never know
- 13:44Speaker 2: what's going to happen over the course of your whether
- 13:47Speaker 2: Syrians here another year of five, ten years, you never
- 13:50Speaker 2: know what's going to happen. You just don't know. It's
- 13:53Speaker 2: good for how he get in front of Hi, Jeffrey,
- 13:55Speaker 2: whoever else is involved, obviously Julian because he's going to
- 13:57Speaker 2: be the successor to Jeffrey. The team, whoever's in the interviews,
- 14:02Speaker 2: you could tape them, by the way, and you have
- 14:05Speaker 2: this to refer to as they get older. It's actually
- 14:07Speaker 2: it's like what Annie would say when I asked him
- 14:10Speaker 2: when he was Eagles head coach about sometimes about not
- 14:16Speaker 2: needing a certain position in the draft. But he goes, yeah,
- 14:19Speaker 2: but part of it is we tape the interviews and
- 14:22Speaker 2: for free agency we could refer to this. Mm hm,
- 14:24Speaker 2: you know you have this, you never know.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I think you made a really good point. I
- 14:29Speaker 1: think we talked about a little bit the last part too.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I Doyle has only been an NFL position coach or
- 14:36Speaker 1: coordinator for three years. He was tight ends coach for
- 14:39Speaker 1: a couple of years in Denver, and he was offensive
- 14:40Speaker 1: coordinator for the Bears before that. He was just an
- 14:43Speaker 1: assistant just for a couple of years too. He's very young,
- 14:46Speaker 1: and this job right now with urgency to win and
- 14:50Speaker 1: trying to coach a Super Bowl MVP quarterback and a
- 14:52Speaker 1: Super Bowl Player of the Year running back, Like, I
- 14:55Speaker 1: feel like you're going to need a little bit of presence.
- 14:56Speaker 1: And I'm not saying Declendilla doesn't have it, But how
- 14:59Speaker 1: can you know, Oh, he's never commanded a room at
- 15:02Speaker 1: this level before. So bright kid. I get not wanting
- 15:05Speaker 1: to pass on someone who you think might be really bright.
- 15:08Speaker 1: But he only spent a year with Ben Johnson. It's
- 15:10Speaker 1: not like you're getting Ben Johnson two point zero or
- 15:13Speaker 1: you're guaranteed to get it. You might, but you don't know.
- 15:16Speaker 1: So it's it's tough. I can understand. I asked an
- 15:20Speaker 1: AFC guy what he thought out of Decklan Doyle, and
- 15:23Speaker 1: he said, to be honest with you, there's not much
- 15:26Speaker 1: out there about him because again he's not like a
- 15:28Speaker 1: lot of people in the league know who he is,
- 15:30Speaker 1: but they don't really know what he's all about because
- 15:33Speaker 1: he's he's just so young. And so look, you like
- 15:36Speaker 1: the Eagles casting wide that you like him getting intel. Hey,
- 15:40Speaker 1: a year or two from now, if they hire OC
- 15:42Speaker 1: who winds up getting a head coaching job and Doyle
- 15:44Speaker 1: is still and the Bears are still doing great. All right,
- 15:46Speaker 1: you can bring him in already knowing you've got baseline
- 15:48Speaker 1: information on him. Right you may have had a great experience,
- 15:51Speaker 1: but it just feels like right now not maybe the
- 15:54Speaker 1: right time for that. And we'll see.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Yeah. And by the way, coaching contracts, unless you have
- 15:59Speaker 2: ten or if you're in OC, like if it's a
- 16:02Speaker 2: veteran guys had success, you're gonna get three years or
- 16:04Speaker 2: typically two years with a rollover. What it means is
- 16:06Speaker 2: it's a club option. Do you get two years and
- 16:08Speaker 2: then if they like you, they rolled over for a year,
- 16:11Speaker 2: Like they just added, they add the option year. So
- 16:14Speaker 2: with Doyle, I wonder because he's not calling place, he's
- 16:17Speaker 2: so young, I wonder if they'll and obviously had a
- 16:20Speaker 2: great year. I wonder did he sign a three or
- 16:23Speaker 2: two year deal, because on your point, you go down
- 16:25Speaker 2: the line here, you never know in a year from now.
- 16:27Speaker 2: He's a little bit older now. Now, as I was
- 16:30Speaker 2: telling you over the weekend, when you and I were
- 16:31Speaker 2: talking about all these young guys and so forth, nobody
- 16:34Speaker 2: knew Sean McVay was this great. I mean he was.
- 16:36Speaker 2: He was technically thirty years old, I think, and then
- 16:39Speaker 2: a month later he turned thirty one. After he sign
- 16:41Speaker 2: his contract with the Rams, he just turned forty. It's crazy,
- 16:45Speaker 2: but no, and now he was an offensive coordinator, not
- 16:48Speaker 2: calling plays, I don't I don't think he called them
- 16:51Speaker 2: under Jay Gruden. I don't think he did right called
- 16:54Speaker 2: the direct yes, yes, but again that's a he also coach,
- 16:58Speaker 2: he coached a position. He was also the I think
- 17:01Speaker 2: the UFL with like the Florida Tuskers or something, so
- 17:03Speaker 2: you know, one of those things. But he was also
- 17:05Speaker 2: in his twenties then, So yeah, it's interesting, good for
- 17:07Speaker 2: the Eagles to do this. Yeah, but we'll see what happens.
- 17:11Speaker 1: We will and you know, all hope isn't lost. I mean,
- 17:13Speaker 1: as we were recording this, Kingsbury is still out there.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Brian Dable hasn't officially done anything, even if he's like
- 17:20Speaker 1: I know, I know, but I'm just trying to at
- 17:21Speaker 1: least go with people who have not officially agreed on it.
- 17:25Speaker 2: It is true he hasn't. Yeah, he hasn't. We'll think
- 17:28Speaker 2: of it this way. Tennessee wants in badly, is I've
- 17:31Speaker 2: noted now for three weeks almost Well, I didn't know
- 17:34Speaker 2: two weeks. It's the head coach Sala and the GM
- 17:37Speaker 2: Burganzi won They want Dable badly, right, Okay, he's been
- 17:42Speaker 2: their guy. I know he's very interested the job from
- 17:44Speaker 2: what I've been told. Now, why did he interview with
- 17:47Speaker 2: the Eagles? Well, let's say it fell through. We learn
- 17:50Speaker 2: enough about what happened in twenty seventeen with this, with
- 17:53Speaker 2: the Frank Reich situation, coming out of the blue to
- 17:56Speaker 2: be the Colt head coach. Who the hell knew then
- 17:59Speaker 2: Josh mc daniels would break a verbal agreement like you
- 18:02Speaker 2: did and that you know That's what I mean. So
- 18:04Speaker 2: you never know, boy, it would be fascinating. You see
- 18:07Speaker 2: Brian Dable in Philly. Oh yeah, it would be.
- 18:10Speaker 1: It would be Kafka still out there and Aggy we'll
- 18:12Speaker 1: see yeah, yeah, I mean there's there's some guys they've
- 18:15Speaker 1: talked to and guys who you would think if you
- 18:17Speaker 1: don't love them, would be an upgrade over what they
- 18:19Speaker 1: had last year. So with that being said, we'll obviously
- 18:23Speaker 1: without him down and mobile, he'll he'll be he'll be
- 18:26Speaker 1: seeing a lot of people and getting a lot of
- 18:28Speaker 1: intel and we'll have another inside the Birds out pretty
- 18:30Speaker 1: soon on that. But let's get into this offensive roster.
- 18:33Speaker 1: As we said, we're going to go through it and
- 18:34Speaker 1: just give everybody an idea of what it looks like
- 18:36Speaker 1: now versus what it might look like when the year begins.
- 18:39Speaker 1: A lot of different question marks free agencies certainly, and
- 18:42Speaker 1: I think I mentioned this in the last pot Adam.
- 18:44Speaker 1: You heard Howie Roseman make a very interesting reference to
- 18:47Speaker 1: how they rewarded a lot of guys with contracts on
- 18:51Speaker 1: offense while they rebuilt the defense. And now this was
- 18:54Speaker 1: over the years. Now the defensive guys need to get
- 18:57Speaker 1: handled homegrown defensive guys, and that's going to impact money
- 19:00Speaker 1: available on offense. So let's talk about the quarterback because
- 19:04Speaker 1: this room is going to change quite a bit. Theoretically,
- 19:08Speaker 1: the Jalen Hurts isn't going anywhere, but we'll see what
- 19:11Speaker 1: happens with Tanner McKee and howl. Sam Howell is an
- 19:14Speaker 1: unrestricted free agent.
- 19:15Speaker 2: I believe yes, so a couple of things that Hurts
- 19:18Speaker 2: assigned through twenty twenty eight. McKee is signed through this
- 19:20Speaker 2: coming season. Only we expect the Eagles to have people
- 19:24Speaker 2: calling him about McKee. Now, are they going to hold
- 19:27Speaker 2: it against the Eagle? Not in the Eagles, I mean
- 19:29Speaker 2: McKee because his game when he started the season wasn't great,
- 19:33Speaker 2: as has greg O. Sellt taught our Patreon members when
- 19:36Speaker 2: it when when he talked about not only what the
- 19:40Speaker 2: tape looked like, about understanding McKee's whole game going back
- 19:44Speaker 2: to Stanford, he Greg I love Greg's line. He's like,
- 19:48Speaker 2: he probably kept himself up at night for some of
- 19:50Speaker 2: those throws that he missed, because the throws he would
- 19:52Speaker 2: normally never miss. He just missed off throws. It happens.
- 19:55Speaker 2: It happens, But you could only go by the tape
- 19:57Speaker 2: that you have and previously to that game preseason at
- 20:00Speaker 2: any time he played look fantastic. So you got your
- 20:04Speaker 2: kill and go by what you have and he's come
- 20:06Speaker 2: a long way. But here's the thing with Hal as
- 20:08Speaker 2: an unrestricted free agent, it's correct if they wind up
- 20:12Speaker 2: trading McKee. I know it's I mean, people thinks you
- 20:17Speaker 2: could just get a good backup quarterback on the street.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Oh yeah, really, I don't. I don't know about that. Now.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Now I say that I bring back Sam how if
- 20:25Speaker 2: they want up trading McKey, I bring back Sam hell
- 20:27Speaker 2: on a heartbeat, super athletic. Now did they when he
- 20:31Speaker 2: was with Washington that one year when who is who
- 20:34Speaker 2: is the one year? How put up massive numbers?
- 20:38Speaker 1: Oh would be enemy? Right, I was gonna ask five
- 20:42Speaker 1: times a game?
- 20:42Speaker 2: Yeah, they thought the joke in the scout in circles
- 20:45Speaker 2: whatever coaching circles was, oh well he's just trying to
- 20:47Speaker 2: get be a head coach or they're gonna throw it
- 20:48Speaker 2: every down. This is just ridiculous how much they put
- 20:51Speaker 2: They put the ball up in the air on your point,
- 20:54Speaker 2: and it was the enemy. Who's now going to be
- 20:55Speaker 2: the OC? Now play calling OC for the Chiefs. But
- 20:58Speaker 2: I would Sam Howe is a good backup quarterback like that,
- 21:01Speaker 2: that's a guy I would take because folks, they're just
- 21:04Speaker 2: not enough good backups going around here, right, that would
- 21:07Speaker 2: be a reason to keep McKee. But listen now, now,
- 21:12Speaker 2: if they can't get a second, I thought for sure
- 21:14Speaker 2: a first round pick I had because we're so far
- 21:16Speaker 2: away from free agency, yeah, I didn't think. I felt
- 21:19Speaker 2: there was no way they would trade unless they got
- 21:20Speaker 2: it first. Now, because that tape wasn't very good. Other
- 21:23Speaker 2: clubs might have leverage. But if you got five teams
- 21:25Speaker 2: calling Eagles, hey, what are you doing with McKey? Are
- 21:27Speaker 2: you willing to listen? And if they only get a third,
- 21:30Speaker 2: I'm not trading. Would you do it for a second?
- 21:33Speaker 2: I would.
- 21:34Speaker 1: I would do it for a second. And I'm knowing
- 21:35Speaker 1: how he could probably work some kind of conditional in
- 21:38Speaker 1: there if that the guy winds up starting and making
- 21:40Speaker 1: the Pro Bowl, because I don't know he can get something.
- 21:44Speaker 1: You're not gonna get that to convert to a first,
- 21:45Speaker 1: but you might get an extra fourth or fifth or
- 21:48Speaker 1: something like that. But I would do it for a second, Yeah, sure,
- 21:51Speaker 1: because that just gives the Eagles more Because I do
- 21:53Speaker 1: think the Eagles would wind up anyway drafting a quarterback.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Howell could be the number two. They draft the quarterback.
- 21:58Speaker 1: They're gonna draft the quarterback much every year or every
- 22:01Speaker 1: other year. It was funny to hear the new Dolphins, Uh,
- 22:06Speaker 1: what's his name? John? John Eric, John Eric something?
- 22:08Speaker 2: GM Sullivan By the way, do you know his daddy?
- 22:11Speaker 2: Do you know his dad is?
- 22:11Speaker 1: Yes, his father's the GM Sullivan obviously Sullivan. I can't
- 22:15Speaker 1: remember his first name. No, no, no, no, no, no John.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Do you know his dad is? No, no, no, Jerry Sullivan. Erry,
- 22:21Speaker 2: the legendary receivers coaching coach Jerry Rice for the Niners.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Yes, that's his dad.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Is an app is an absolute superstar, maybe the best
- 22:30Speaker 2: receivers coach in NFL history. Yeah, I talked to his dad.
- 22:33Speaker 2: I don't know how many times. It's student ball. He
- 22:35Speaker 2: is a Riot, and I've talked to people of coach
- 22:38Speaker 2: with him.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 22:40Speaker 2: You want to talk about coaching hard I mean, it's
- 22:44Speaker 2: crazy how Hardy coaches. His dad's gotta be late seventies,
- 22:47Speaker 2: maybe he's eighty. But but what so what who did
- 22:50Speaker 2: you what did you hear?
- 22:50Speaker 1: Basically said, and you know he comes from the Green
- 22:52Speaker 1: Bay chain or which believes in this he says, we're
- 22:55Speaker 1: gonna have the quarterback every year if we can Ron Wolf,
- 22:58Speaker 1: that's Wolf, right, I mean total and red Andy Reid?
- 23:02Speaker 1: How many drag how many quarterbacks of the Eagles draft
- 23:04Speaker 1: under Andy Reid.
- 23:05Speaker 2: The immortal not to mortal Andy Hoff of Delaware.
- 23:08Speaker 1: He never made it, right, like, and that's gonna happen.
- 23:11Speaker 1: You know Howie has continued to addition. And you know,
- 23:13Speaker 1: Kyle McCord didn't make these with Green Bay ironically now,
- 23:16Speaker 1: uh and Clayton Thorston didn't make it. But then you
- 23:19Speaker 1: get a guy like Tanner McKee. Then you get sure
- 23:21Speaker 1: you know Nick Foles. Then you get you know, a
- 23:22Speaker 1: backup like Jalen Hurts, although that was a little bit different.
- 23:25Speaker 2: That was more higher falls Nick Foles. My man, we probably,
- 23:29Speaker 2: I'm sure we talked about this eight years ago. Uh's
- 23:31Speaker 2: very lucky he was an ego because that was not
- 23:33Speaker 2: the plan. They took him earlier in their draft grade.
- 23:37Speaker 2: So good for Andy was.
- 23:38Speaker 1: His call, and he was like, we're taking a quarterback.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that's exactly what happened. Is CORNISONA was in the room.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Then yep, right, because they missed out on Russell, so
- 23:45Speaker 1: they went and got Andy, I mean they got Nick
- 23:48Speaker 1: so yeah, so that So the point I was making
- 23:50Speaker 1: is the Eagles are just likely to draft a quarterback anyway,
- 23:53Speaker 1: because if you trade McKee and you're gonna and you
- 23:55Speaker 1: don't have him a court anymore as developmental guy, you're
- 23:57Speaker 1: gonna wind up going taking another one. It'll be interesting
- 24:01Speaker 1: to see how high they're willing to go with it, though,
- 24:04Speaker 1: because okay, they took him in the second round.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Exactly if you imagine if they drafted quarterback in the
- 24:09Speaker 2: second round, because my hair is on fire when they
- 24:13Speaker 2: did the Hurts, one of you could have pushed me
- 24:14Speaker 2: with a feather. I was. I was in stun silence.
- 24:16Speaker 2: I'm like, what.
- 24:19Speaker 1: It's big year for Hurts? Honestly from a contract, right,
- 24:23Speaker 1: Oh yeah, this is his cap number out of my
- 24:27Speaker 1: I mean, if he has a really good year coming up,
- 24:28Speaker 1: new offensive court and everything, they go back make a
- 24:30Speaker 1: deep run, you could probably see him getting a little
- 24:32Speaker 1: bit more of an extension, right sure.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Oh well, honestly, his contract is so undervalued for if
- 24:40Speaker 2: you just look at his we can look. We know
- 24:44Speaker 2: about the issues, folks, and I'm going to get this.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we've outlined his issues. Okay, but the guy
- 24:50Speaker 2: also won a Super Bowl. It's been a two of them. Okay,
- 24:54Speaker 2: got got hidn't? I don't think he missed the game
- 24:56Speaker 2: this past season, right, Oh.
- 24:57Speaker 1: He did not. He wasn't even on the injury report once,
- 25:00Speaker 1: remember the ankle and he what he went up not
- 25:02Speaker 1: being on it.
- 25:03Speaker 2: But the bottom line is if he does blow it up,
- 25:07Speaker 2: it's interesting that you set it up this way. What
- 25:09Speaker 2: if he has a terrible year, Well, then of course
- 25:10Speaker 2: the trade value wouldn't be great. He's coming to a
- 25:12Speaker 2: bad year. But this is this is a this is
- 25:15Speaker 2: absolutely a crossroads season four him. It's you know, I
- 25:20Speaker 2: have a good season. It's really two years in a row,
- 25:21Speaker 2: and he didn't play at the level he needs to play. Yes,
- 25:24Speaker 2: there are reasons around him, but there could be a
- 25:27Speaker 2: lot of change. No, I'm not talking about him, but
- 25:29Speaker 2: in AJ Brown situation, there's a lot going all of
- 25:32Speaker 2: his football team. Yeah.
- 25:34Speaker 1: And while there's a lot going on a quarterback and
- 25:36Speaker 1: that's a room that can change a lot, there should
- 25:38Speaker 1: be not much change, if at all, to the running
- 25:41Speaker 1: back room. Other than AJ Dillon, Barkley, Shipley, Bigsby. They're
- 25:45Speaker 1: all gonna be back next year, barring something unforeseen.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Yeah, so Shipleys signed for twenty seven. Bigsby and this
- 25:52Speaker 2: is part of why they made this trade. They knew
- 25:55Speaker 2: he had two years left. Okay, that trade, give it up.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Two draft picks for a guy on a funny contract
- 26:00Speaker 2: whend never would have happened. They knew that he had
- 26:02Speaker 2: another year left, and the best possible scenario came. No,
- 26:06Speaker 2: he was not traded for him to be a kickoff
- 26:08Speaker 2: return He was trained to be a running back in
- 26:09Speaker 2: a kickoff second just he socked at it at kickoff
- 26:13Speaker 2: returns and he looked phenomenal as a running back. Holy smokes. Yes,
- 26:17Speaker 2: he tries to break everything outside and he the Niners
- 26:20Speaker 2: saw that. They stopped them on one of them. But
- 26:23Speaker 2: he'll be in the whoever system is running it, you know,
- 26:25Speaker 2: the Eagles, whoever's running their offense this season, Well, they'll
- 26:29Speaker 2: see Bigsby and hopefully they could figure out a better
- 26:31Speaker 2: way to get him a little bit more involved as
- 26:34Speaker 2: Barkley's backup. But you know, overall, it's it's Barkley on
- 26:38Speaker 2: his extension signed for twenty eight. Chipley signed for twenty seven.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Bigsby signed, You're right through twenty six, So yeah, they
- 26:45Speaker 2: a j. Jallen obviously will not be back. He's he
- 26:48Speaker 2: didn't look bad by the way, It's just that they
- 26:51Speaker 2: made the trade for Bigsby and you don't dress four
- 26:53Speaker 2: running backs. Oh well, yeah, no.
- 26:55Speaker 1: They've for whatever reason, they have been very I guess
- 26:59Speaker 1: that's on holding on to some running backs even if
- 27:02Speaker 1: they're not going to use them. I mean, going back
- 27:04Speaker 1: to a Shad Penny. And then this year ag Aj
- 27:06Speaker 1: Dillon could have been cut a thousand different times as
- 27:09Speaker 1: they were doing roster tango, but they kept them on
- 27:12Speaker 1: and they didn't use it. I don't understand it. But
- 27:14Speaker 1: that's not you know, it's above my pay grade anyway.
- 27:17Speaker 1: But yeah, all right, wide receiver Adam huge huge position
- 27:21Speaker 1: in flux going into twenty twenty and then going into
- 27:23Speaker 1: this offseason.
- 27:25Speaker 2: So AJ Brown signed through twenty twenty nine. This is
- 27:27Speaker 2: the last year I was fully guaranteed money just under
- 27:31Speaker 2: twenty nine million. Yes, they would take a cap and
- 27:35Speaker 2: if they trade them, it's we'll have more as we
- 27:37Speaker 2: go along here in the off season. Yeah, this is
- 27:40Speaker 2: this is it's gonna be a fascinating situation because if
- 27:43Speaker 2: you trade them, you got to replace them. And that's
- 27:45Speaker 2: and the good thing is the Eagles have a decent
- 27:48Speaker 2: amount of draft picks. You just would I mean, you
- 27:50Speaker 2: could trade and try to get someone young back that
- 27:52Speaker 2: you like.
- 27:53Speaker 1: But they've already started looking, by the way, knowing how
- 27:57Speaker 1: his reputation, I've already started looking at the receivers who
- 28:02Speaker 1: were drafted in twenty twenty three, who are now through
- 28:06Speaker 1: their third season and might not get a contract extension
- 28:11Speaker 1: because this is what how he prays on, Right, who's
- 28:13Speaker 1: the guy who's going to become available? Because the team
- 28:15Speaker 1: is a guy like the Cults are a really interesting
- 28:17Speaker 1: team because they've got Alec Pierce headed. I believe for no,
- 28:20Speaker 1: no Josh Downs headed for free agency right as a
- 28:23Speaker 1: pot receiver, Jes guy is either headed for free agency
- 28:26Speaker 1: or about Peers, I think, yeah, but they've got Pittman,
- 28:30Speaker 1: they've got Downs. Downs is really good. They may think
- 28:33Speaker 1: that one of these guys has got to go, So
- 28:35Speaker 1: maybe there's a trade there. I don't know.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it's how he got CJ. Garter Johnson the Saints, YEP.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Leading up to twenty two season, they just were not
- 28:44Speaker 2: They've made a decisions. They were not going to extend
- 28:46Speaker 2: his contract. Right, What's that?
- 28:49Speaker 1: It's also how he got aj Yep, no, that's that's right.
- 28:53Speaker 2: In fact, In fact, I and also in terms of shopping,
- 28:56Speaker 2: I remember that this is going back so many years ago.
- 28:59Speaker 2: In fact, I don't know if how he wasn't the
- 29:00Speaker 2: GM then I don't think yeah, because when did they
- 29:03Speaker 2: trade McNabb.
- 29:04Speaker 1: What did it after the twenty ten season?
- 29:06Speaker 2: Okay, well, I know for a fact, as I put
- 29:08Speaker 2: it out then that they were shopping McNabb at the
- 29:10Speaker 2: Cenar Powl. They were just trying to get e gauge
- 29:12Speaker 2: what the interest level was, and they went up trading him.
- 29:15Speaker 2: That's what you do. You could do it quietly, you
- 29:17Speaker 2: could just there's ways you can do it. But yeah,
- 29:21Speaker 2: on Josh Jallons, by the way, it was a really
- 29:23Speaker 2: good slap receiver. Been hurt a lot, but he signed
- 29:25Speaker 2: through twenty six. Alec Pearce is up. My nickname for
- 29:29Speaker 2: him is nine round Piers. It's really what he does.
- 29:32Speaker 2: He's just super explosive aout the University Cincinnati who was
- 29:35Speaker 2: probably overdrafted. In fact he was because he doesn't have
- 29:38Speaker 2: enough versatility. But man, he had a good year. But
- 29:41Speaker 2: he just doesn't command the football enough. But he could run,
- 29:43Speaker 2: but could.
- 29:44Speaker 1: You see maybe well this is for down the road.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I was wondering myself, could I see a situation where
- 29:49Speaker 1: they want to give down to the extension after year
- 29:51Speaker 1: three to avoid him getting closer? For you wanna held
- 29:54Speaker 1: on to Pierce and maybe Pittman becomes available because he
- 29:56Speaker 1: sort of took He didn't have as much of a
- 29:58Speaker 1: year as he had in the year passed, and he
- 30:00Speaker 1: is a true ex He is a guy that maybe
- 30:03Speaker 1: you can slide next to DeVante Smith and give you
- 30:05Speaker 1: some good good Listen.
- 30:06Speaker 2: He's not a J.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Brown, nobody is. As you just said, He's gonna be hard.
- 30:10Speaker 1: It's about who you fill that spot with. But it's
- 30:12Speaker 1: gonna be hard to find another AJ Brown, no doubt
- 30:15Speaker 1: about it.
- 30:16Speaker 2: By the way, not that we're saying Michael Pittman's gonna
- 30:18Speaker 2: be traded, but just so you know, twenty six is
- 30:20Speaker 2: his last season. The total cash owed is twenty four million.
- 30:24Speaker 2: That cash is king of the national FOOTBA leagu That's
- 30:26Speaker 2: the first thing that a general manager looks at. Cap
- 30:28Speaker 2: is secondary. Trust me on this. I've learned the hard
- 30:31Speaker 2: way with worrying about the cap when it comes to contracts,
- 30:34Speaker 2: worry about cash first. That's what owners care about. Owners
- 30:36Speaker 2: don't care about the cap. They care about cash allocation. Yes,
- 30:40Speaker 2: you have to work around the cap, that's a real thing.
- 30:42Speaker 2: But this is a Major League Baseball with the luxury tax.
- 30:45Speaker 2: This is a malleable salary cap. And now Chris Ballard
- 30:50Speaker 2: doesn't like making trades. He only doesn't want he knows
- 30:52Speaker 2: he has to. Michael Pittman is a good football player.
- 30:55Speaker 2: It just it would be be very interesting. We're doing
- 30:58Speaker 2: like fantasy scouting here. We're not saying that they're going
- 31:00Speaker 2: to trade them.
- 31:01Speaker 1: But anyway, but you if you traded you Brown, you
- 31:04Speaker 1: really need a true X or you have.
- 31:05Speaker 2: To get one ye draft free agency. On your point,
- 31:10Speaker 2: we'll do for agency stuff later a later date. But
- 31:13Speaker 2: I couldn't because for them to have traded Brown at
- 31:16Speaker 2: the trade deadline, there's no way, there's no despite all
- 31:19Speaker 2: the problems.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 31:21Speaker 2: You know, he's whatever, not community, he's not happy whatever
- 31:25Speaker 2: you're trying to make because they didn't know they lose
- 31:26Speaker 2: to the Niners. But you're you're you're trying to trying
- 31:29Speaker 2: to you're trying to get to the second level. How
- 31:31Speaker 2: could you do it without it? Who are they going
- 31:34Speaker 2: to get back? And return. So it just made no
- 31:36Speaker 2: sense with them trading the tradeline, even if people want
- 31:39Speaker 2: them to be traded anyway.
- 31:41Speaker 3: Hey, it's that time of the year that everyone's trying
- 31:43Speaker 3: to clean up their habits and that includes me. Honestly,

- 33:24Speaker 1: watched and police are on the way. There's no better

- 34:48Speaker 1: Cam Den Apothecary top quality cannabis, great prices, and an
- 34:52Speaker 1: experience made for Philly fans twenty one and up. So
- 34:56Speaker 1: you got Smith who still signed through twenty twenty eight.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Devonte Smith. Obviously they may have found something with Darius
- 35:03Speaker 1: Cooper now he was an he was an undrafted free agent.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Those guys signed three year deals, Chris, Yes.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Yes, he got a three year deal, so he's got
- 35:12Speaker 2: two years left. Johnny Wilson also signed through twenty twenty seven.
- 35:15Speaker 2: He was drafted year before, but he got a four
- 35:17Speaker 2: year deal going from major injury. Britain Covey, he actually
- 35:20Speaker 2: signed a two year deal when he signed and how
- 35:22Speaker 2: he likes to do that.
- 35:23Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 35:24Speaker 2: So yeah, he signed through this coming season so he
- 35:26Speaker 2: could be the punt returner again. He's pretty good at.
- 35:29Speaker 1: It, Yes he is. I thought he. I was surprised
- 35:32Speaker 1: it took him so long to get back into that position,
- 35:34Speaker 1: but I thought he made a difference. But just to
- 35:37Speaker 1: illustrate the with Johan Dotson being an unrestricted free agent,
- 35:40Speaker 1: if AJ Brown were to be traded, and we don't
- 35:44Speaker 1: know who they would replace him with, but you're talking
- 35:46Speaker 1: about a room that has Davante Smith, Darius Cooper, Johnny Wilson,
- 35:51Speaker 1: and Britain Covey. That is that is scary. But of
- 35:54Speaker 1: course that's before that's before how he takes the scalpel
- 35:56Speaker 1: and four steps to it and figures out the surgery.
- 35:59Speaker 1: But in general, just shows you their depth right there.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's not great. I mean, now, now here's
- 36:05Speaker 2: another thing for you. I think we'll probably talk about this.
- 36:08Speaker 2: In fact, I know we did recently just about getting
- 36:12Speaker 2: a new OC and maybe they might use some eleven personnel. Right. Well,
- 36:17Speaker 2: here's the thing. You can't do it if you don't
- 36:19Speaker 2: have a receiver, so they have to on your point,
- 36:21Speaker 2: they got to get much better depth. And we'll get
- 36:24Speaker 2: to this at some point what we want to see
- 36:25Speaker 2: from the new OC, because it's hard to talk about
- 36:27Speaker 2: that until they hire them and we know what kind
- 36:30Speaker 2: of scheme they're gonna run because we'll find that out.
- 36:33Speaker 2: But yeah, it's uh, it's gonna be interesting to see
- 36:36Speaker 2: what they do at receiver.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and I love how you just mentioned eleven personnel,
- 36:40Speaker 1: and we know the Eagles like to play a lot
- 36:42Speaker 1: of twelve personnel. And we'll see who the new OC
- 36:44Speaker 1: is and what the philosophies are and if they align.
- 36:46Speaker 1: But if the guy wants to play it more as
- 36:49Speaker 1: much twelve personnel as the Eagles have played in the past.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Well then you got to look at the tight end
- 36:54Speaker 1: room and think that that's about as fluid as it
- 36:56Speaker 1: gets too, because there's just there's what one guy signed
- 36:59Speaker 1: through to that.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they resigning Jay Jenkins, but from the
- 37:04Speaker 2: returning roster, Kim Lotzo is the only one he signed
- 37:07Speaker 2: through twenty twenty six. Bought was a great fine for them.
- 37:11Speaker 2: He was hurt with the Niners, and Niners gave up
- 37:12Speaker 2: on very quickly. Yeah, but he's found a home here.
- 37:15Speaker 2: And we'll say it again. They did not use him
- 37:16Speaker 2: correctly in terms of snap count, and there's crossblocks Tho's
- 37:20Speaker 2: craziness where they'd have to cross over for watching us
- 37:23Speaker 2: on YouTube and we would point out on tape that
- 37:27Speaker 2: it's really a hard ask. But he did a good
- 37:30Speaker 2: that's a really good fine for them. And Jason Michael,
- 37:31Speaker 2: the Titan's coach, that the Keys, he's a guy you
- 37:34Speaker 2: won around as a as a y tight end. But
- 37:36Speaker 2: they now now Goddard's contracts up sales, calcutar and grantson
- 37:40Speaker 2: grants and only contribute on special teams where he's really good,
- 37:42Speaker 2: very athletic. I just don't see why you wouldn't go
- 37:46Speaker 2: to Goddard say, hey, you had a great year. Now
- 37:51Speaker 2: could another team they see him, and he turns thirty
- 37:54Speaker 2: one next week, give him a two or three year
- 37:57Speaker 2: deal with two years fully guaranteed. Maybe they obviously he
- 38:00Speaker 2: that Leagles aren't going to do that, right, but would
- 38:02Speaker 2: he like to maybe go year to year with Eagles?
- 38:05Speaker 2: You never know? True, I mean it actually worked out well.
- 38:09Speaker 2: From everything they were definitely they were dead settle moving them.
- 38:13Speaker 2: This is the talk around the league. As we reported
- 38:14Speaker 2: at the time, they were looking doing everything they could
- 38:17Speaker 2: have cut to remove his cash from the from their
- 38:19Speaker 2: their books, and he took a five million pay cut,
- 38:23Speaker 2: which was actually pretty reasonable. And what a year he had,
- 38:27Speaker 2: so why would you try to bring him back?
- 38:29Speaker 1: Eagles were a great red zone scoring team. They didn't
- 38:31Speaker 1: get there a whole lot, but they're a great way
- 38:33Speaker 1: they did, so it makes you wonder if they if
- 38:35Speaker 1: they had wound up trading him, what would they have done?
- 38:38Speaker 1: Like he had eleven touchdowns, I don't know how many
- 38:42Speaker 1: overall timeouns.
- 38:43Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 38:43Speaker 1: I mean, honestly, yeah, but even a rookie you can't
- 38:46Speaker 1: like Mason Taylor had a nice year with the Jets,
- 38:47Speaker 1: but was he going to come in and have eleven
- 38:49Speaker 1: touchdowns for the Well, the.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Whole thing was was was disgusting the Jets offense. But yeah,
- 38:56Speaker 2: I mean they could have looked the draft. There there
- 38:57Speaker 2: were there were like four or five good ones, but
- 39:00Speaker 2: you never know. We'll think about it this way. What
- 39:02Speaker 2: if they traded god and got shut out in the
- 39:03Speaker 2: first two rounds a tight end? Holy bleep, Well, Grants
- 39:07Speaker 2: probably would have fifty catches because someone had to catch football.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Yeah somebody. Yeah, yeah, maybe then they wouldn't have underutilized
- 39:12Speaker 1: a lot too, So who knows, but yeah, Grant Calcatara
- 39:16Speaker 1: free agent. Grantson free agent, Godard free agent. This is
- 39:21Speaker 1: a room, a position group that is very much in flux,
- 39:25Speaker 1: and it's probably going to be probably want to be
- 39:28Speaker 1: the most position group that we talk about quite a
- 39:30Speaker 1: bit this offseason. It's undergo the most change most likely.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Mm hmm grief.
- 39:35Speaker 1: All right, let's finish it off. Offensive line. Uh listen,
- 39:38Speaker 1: this isn't breaking news for it, but the entire offensive
- 39:40Speaker 1: line is signed here through at least one more year.
- 39:44Speaker 1: But there are a major question marks obviously with Lane Johnson,
- 39:47Speaker 1: his health status, what he's going to do Jurgens and
- 39:50Speaker 1: Dickerson were beat up. They're on long term deals, Jurgens
- 39:52Speaker 1: until twenty nine, Dickerson until twenty eight. Steen is what
- 39:57Speaker 1: Stein's got one year left? Yes, yeah, well he is
- 40:01Speaker 1: up for an extension this year. But I don't, Yeah.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Question bad, He's just oh, he's just okay. The question
- 40:09Speaker 2: is with with Steve, is he still gonna be the starter.
- 40:12Speaker 1: That's a great point, especially we have to see what
- 40:14Speaker 1: they're going to do in the draft in the off season,
- 40:17Speaker 1: because I think how we did Adam an admirable job
- 40:20Speaker 1: of stockpiling what he could. You know, we're talking about
- 40:24Speaker 1: Day three. He drafted Cam Williams and Miles Hitting, then
- 40:27Speaker 1: he claimed Willie Lampkin. He's got Drew Kendall got some
- 40:30Speaker 1: playing time. But I you know, it's hard to say
- 40:32Speaker 1: if there's a future starter in there, someone you'd be
- 40:34Speaker 1: confident to play three or four games if you're center,
- 40:37Speaker 1: your starting center or guards got hurt.
- 40:40Speaker 2: Not only that is where is your veteran backup? I
- 40:45Speaker 2: understand it's we're only in January here, so obviously he
- 40:47Speaker 2: doesn't start till September. It's not a big deal, right,
- 40:50Speaker 2: but my lot of signs for twenty eight. We're not
- 40:54Speaker 2: next in a year from now, if this this line
- 40:57Speaker 2: plays poorly again with the run game, if they're if
- 41:00Speaker 2: they're as bad as they were, we're gonna have to
- 41:02Speaker 2: start looking at contracts because this can't continue. It's just
- 41:05Speaker 2: it happened. It was a bad year overall of the
- 41:07Speaker 2: run blocking. Yep. And by the way, with lane structure,
- 41:10Speaker 2: the way I understood it at the time was lane
- 41:12Speaker 2: structure is is as if he comes back this season,
- 41:16Speaker 2: it stays on the original terms of the last extension,
- 41:19Speaker 2: they would have to redo it for like that. It
- 41:21Speaker 2: was kind of like the way that we noted at
- 41:24Speaker 2: the time with Kelsey's so long ago, was when we
- 41:27Speaker 2: kept coming back, Well, they both agreed that, okay, if
- 41:30Speaker 2: it comes back, it'll have to be redone. That's kind
- 41:32Speaker 2: of the same thing after twenty six. Okay, so I
- 41:36Speaker 2: think I don't have in front of it, but I
- 41:38Speaker 2: just remember, like this the way was structured, they'd have
- 41:40Speaker 2: to redo it. But the Kendall, Kendall, I mean, he
- 41:45Speaker 2: just he barely played. As you know, he barely played.
- 41:48Speaker 2: He signed through twenty eight Lampkin because they claimed him
- 41:51Speaker 2: off waivers. The original terms was undirected free agent deal.
- 41:54Speaker 2: He signed through twenty seven. We'll get a look at
- 41:56Speaker 2: him in the off season program. Kim Williams did look
- 41:58Speaker 2: good in that final game. He actually, you know, Grego's
- 42:02Speaker 2: held totals. He was like, wow, okay, you know he
- 42:05Speaker 2: he knew how raw he was. Yeah, he kind of
- 42:07Speaker 2: he kind of opened some eyes. Uh. So that that
- 42:09Speaker 2: was that was good at hint and didn't really play
- 42:12Speaker 2: Miles Sinton. He's signed through twenty eight and prior Toath
- 42:15Speaker 2: and Fred Johnson are up so Toath had that one
- 42:18Speaker 2: excellent game kind of out of nowhere. It's a good,
- 42:21Speaker 2: great thing for him. Fred Johnson might have been how
- 42:24Speaker 2: he's best off see someone. Yeah, Frankly, I'm being honest
- 42:28Speaker 2: about it.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I still think with with Kendall and Williams, you know,
- 42:31Speaker 1: you get there's some advantage of that there there was
- 42:33Speaker 1: no tape on them to begin with. They can get
- 42:35Speaker 1: in there and play, so it is good. But I
- 42:37Speaker 1: don't none of us can know right now. Are they
- 42:39Speaker 1: going to be guys who can go in and start
- 42:42Speaker 1: If the Eagles have once again have.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Interest, That's my point. That's why they need veterans. Getting
- 42:47Speaker 2: Fred Johnson back as the top swing tackle. Could be huge. Yeah,
- 42:50Speaker 2: no one's could have signed him to start, that's not happening.
- 42:53Speaker 2: It happened with Jacksonville. He signed a modesty with Jacksonville.
- 42:57Speaker 2: So let's let's let's see what happens. And yeah, I mean,
- 43:02Speaker 2: you really need three veterans because man, with Dickerson's injury history,
- 43:07Speaker 2: which is significant jargons if you go back to Nebraska,
- 43:10Speaker 2: not as significant as Dickerson's, but it's hit a tough year.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Yep.
- 43:15Speaker 2: You need as many quality backups as you can get. Now,
- 43:18Speaker 2: you could also go through you off season program, see
- 43:19Speaker 2: how these guys are bulking up. The young guys. How
- 43:21Speaker 2: do they look? Man, they need better answers for the
- 43:24Speaker 2: backup group. It just was not good enough.
- 43:26Speaker 1: It was not and very interesting. I think, how we
- 43:29Speaker 1: you know in Howie he's gonna invest some draft capital
- 43:33Speaker 1: and maybe earlier than day three on that offense line
- 43:36Speaker 1: because those are some big contracts there, all right, that
- 43:39Speaker 1: is gonna do it. And again Adam will be heading
- 43:42Speaker 1: down to the Senior Bowl, so we'll get some good
- 43:44Speaker 1: intel from there next time we talk on this Inside
- 43:47Speaker 1: the Birds podcast, and that's going to do it. I
- 43:49Speaker 1: want to thank everybody. As always that's going to do
- 43:52Speaker 1: it for this episode of Inside the Birds, the Leading
