- Robin Axline: Welcome to the podcast where we decide which minor inconveniences deserve major reactions. I'm Robin, improviser, creative multi-hyphenate. I'm bringing chaos, vibes, and a fully committed grudge. And we have Lora here. All right, here at the podcast, we support healing and growth, but we also support being a little petty about it. How are you doing today? ⁓ no! Sorry to hear about that. That's brutal. ⁓ Tita Lors: So, I mean, they've been pretty good today. Mostly just hanging out. They seemed okay this morning. playing. Do you have like, I don't know why I'm asking you if you have this. You probably don't. But it's a Nex console. It's kind of like Wii, but with Wii you had to have the things in your hands. Yeah, but this one, just kind of scans your body and you're the player. Robin Axline: things. Yeah. Tita Lors: It's so cool. So you have to be like active and moving around. So they were doing that this morning. I'm like, how sick can you be? Yeah, right. 102 fever sick. know. No, it's not because they're so resilient because even in that they're still like running and jumping and like playing as if nothing was happening. So it's crazy. Robin Axline: Right. ⁓ wow, that's not cool. Wow. Yeah, I don't know about that console, but sounds dope. Yeah. ⁓ can't wait. I actually had a buddy come over ⁓ fairly recently and he actually brought his Switch with him in a suitcase. ⁓ So I was like, I need one of these stats. I had so much fun. ⁓ Yeah. Tita Lors: Yeah, it's fun when you come over next time. They're going to make you play. Yeah, actually, so they have these nostalgic looking like Nintendo game things that has all the old school games already on it Yeah, and I was telling Ryan like I really want to get this for the girls, but I also kind of want to get it for myself They can have one and I can have one and we don't share Robin Axline: Nice. Mmm. And we don't share. Tita Lors: This is mine, don't mess up my top scores, don't mess up my games here. Robin Axline: Yeah, as it should be. Gotta have your own. Yeah. So funny. Tita Lors: Right? Yeah, like you do. Exactly. Robin Axline: ⁓ we're not sponsored, but no, I just popped open a lacrosse tangerine. Tita Lors: Yeah, well, I'll try. Robin Axline: It's not, I haven't had one of these before, it's not bad. It's pretty nice. Tita Lors: Yeah, am having a hard time with the sparkling water trend. I can't get into it. I know it's ⁓ all like mom talk or all the moms are doing it, but it just means sparkling water and not friends. Robin Axline: Huh, interesting. Yeah, well, maybe you just haven't found the right one. I know, that's like a typical answer of somebody. Tita Lors: I hate this game play. No, I haven't. You're right. I haven't found the right one. I have found really delicious snackies though. Yes. It is. Do you have like a specific cheese flavor that's your favorite? Robin Axline: Well, that looks like a tease it to me, which I'm super jealous about. ⁓ shoot. Besides just the original, I really do like a sharp white cheddar, I think it is. ⁓ I really like that. And then also those ones that are like, I think they're cheese at brand, but they're like this big, kind of like a bigger square. And then they have like ripples in it. Tita Lors: ⁓ like the jumbo ones? Yeah, I think I know what you're talking about. Okay. Robin Axline: And just like the tooth-siveness of it, like the... Yeah, just your yeah, something about it is satisfying. Tita Lors: Yeah, I love that word, truth-someness. Yes. Robin Axline: It's just, yeah, it's like that feel on your teeth when you bite into something. But ⁓ yeah, I like the ones that have like, it's almost like extra cheesiness on it. Yeah, I like that one too. I think it's like, I could be wrong, the Pepper Jack one or something. Or maybe I'm just dreaming about it. Tita Lors: Is there a I don't think I've ever seen a problem. Maybe, yeah, you're like, wait, no. Robin Axline: I don't know. Is this the Cheez-It podcast? Tita Lors: Is this? Now I'm gonna look it up. Is there a Pepper Jack one? That sounds actually really delicious. There should be. Robin Axline: That would be so good. And maybe I'm imagining that I had it before. Yeah, it's the only doubt. Yes. ⁓ my gosh. Tita Lors: Yeah, there's the pepper jack. Yup, there was a pepper jack flavor. don't know. ⁓ I think it's discontinued. Yeah. Bummer. Robin Axline: it's been discontinued. No! Man, why, Jesus, why? Tita Lors: Yeah. Robin Axline: ⁓ man, I do like, I like the extra cheesiness on it, but sometimes it's annoying when you're out and about and you don't have like a way to, you just have to like dust it off your hands and that's sticky. Yeah, same with the, this is now cracker talk. ⁓ Goldfish. Tita Lors: Hahaha! ⁓ I'm sorry, hold on. Wait, that just made me think of like, It's a derogatory term towards white people. You're the one who said it! Robin Axline: no. No, can we like edit this? Rewind. Time out. Tita Lors: We're talking about the real crackers. Robin Axline: Things that you, yeah. Yes. Wow. Anywho. Tita Lors: Yes, ingest. It's okay. I joke about my kids because they're ⁓ mixed race. So I joke that they're rice crackers. But I can say it because they're my kids. Nobody else can say that, Yeah. Do you have any other like nostalgic foods or snackies? ⁓ Robin Axline: Yeah, I was just about to say, I'm like, well, you can do it. Anybody else? Watch out. Tita Lors: Seriously, we're getting derailed. Okay, fine. We'll talk about this another time. Robin Axline: But yes, the answer is yes, I do. But now I really have a craving for cheese. It's crazy enough. No, don't do it. I literally just chomped on some ⁓ mangoes and it was pretty satisfying, so not gonna complain. I can concur with that. I do like those too, because it really tastes like mango and they're not adding a bunch of sugar, so I don't feel horrible about eating a whole bag. Or, mean, yeah. Okay, so I think we'll need to continue this, but that has been Snack Talk. Tita Lors: Do you what mean? Yeah, I don't know if I'm explaining it. Yeah. This is the end. I guess. Robin Axline: Robin and Laura. All right, wanted ⁓ kind of jump into today's topic. Okay, cool. basically, ⁓ my piece of culture this around ⁓ is regarding Mr. Timothee Chalamet. ⁓ Tita Lors: you Robin Axline: Timmy for short. I saw like some video like a year ago or so maybe sooner but it was like that's how you actually pronounce it. Yeah I think I might have to find a video at some point but I know I like heard it somewhere. Like the because it's spelled like there's like a mark Tita Lors: I believe you. Robin Axline: over the E. There's two Es. There's a mark over the second to last one. So I think it does have something. Tita Lors: I believe you. I believe you. just wanted to know. Robin Axline: But ⁓ for everybody else, it's Timothy Chalamet. about that? But yeah, and it's really been hard to ignore him lately, especially because he just wanted a word for best actor for Marty Supreme. And he's been doing a lot of press for that. ⁓ Tita Lors: you Robin Axline: and he's been having a lot of ⁓ interviews and things but I would say maybe he accidentally started a mini culture war this week. ⁓ Tita Lors: Yikes. I only really know him because there's a few movies that he's in that are really, really good that I enjoy, but also because of his involvement with the, one of the Kardashian sisters, not even the Kardashian, what is their actual, yes, the Jenners, yeah, one of the Jenners. So that's, those are the reasons I know him, but I didn't realize he's Accidental. Robin Axline: You know, Kylie Jenner? culture war something. ⁓ Apparently though, back to the Kylie of it all, ⁓ I don't know, I was like reading something about how she was like, I think this is made up, but like the relationship is on the rocks because of what he said in this interview I'm gonna be talking about. I highly doubt it. But I did run into a rabbit hole where it was like saying when he thanks her at award shows she gets flustered and like she doesn't know how to like react or like that's a problem. I don't know. Yeah. ⁓ yeah, just leave them alone. And they go to, I mean, they're in enough stuff together. They go to like the Knicks games and, you know, they've got the courtside seats and all. I mean, not like there's any shortage of them. true, right? Yeah, so basically, I just can't seem to get away from the story lately, especially because it's revolving around the arts, which I'm pretty passionate about. And so it starts out with a town hall meeting that took place fairly recently with Matthew McConaughey and Tita Lors: think I saw this. Okay, continue. Robin Axline: Okay. Yeah. So. Somewhere in the interview, Chalamet is like nonchalantly that says he doesn't want to work in ballet or opera. And then he joked around, he's like, ⁓ well, no one cares about those anymore. And it's just caused this like crazy reaction. ⁓ So like, of course, the internet exploded. ⁓ And there's been like all these ballet dancers, opera singers, ⁓ arts organizations, like all these posts on Insta, TikTok, et cetera. And one that I thought was really insane, the Metropolitan Opera made a response video that showed all the people that work on. the production, like the crew and all the things that go into it and like the artistry and I was like, that's a little petty for the Metropolitan Opera to be making a video about something that somebody said, but okay, I'm here for it. So. Yeah, yeah, totally. ⁓ And I guess there's like companies offering like free tickets to things, discounts, and I don't know, I feel like a lot of that could be seen as passive aggressive. ⁓ you know, ⁓ and then one, actually a couple examples I have is one Misty Copeland ballet legend. Basic, yeah, I mean, she's like. super awesome. But she was criticizing him because she was like, hello, like the ballet has influenced performing arts for centuries upon centuries. Like, what are you doing kind of vibes. But the one I liked the most was Andrea Bocelli, opera singer. And he was very different approach where he said, Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Robin Axline: I guess apparently he invited Chalamet to a opera concert to show the experience and how emotional is. Like, you just need to see it kind of thing. And I'm like, yeah, but maybe he just doesn't deserve it at that point. Tita Lors: It is very... Yeah. Robin Axline: Like if he's already like opera isn't, I'm not interested in that, then why give him a free ticket? Tita Lors: Because, you know, it's like educating him. He's like... There's this whole piece of culture. In my brain now, I'm imagining, you know, that scene in the Devil Wears Prada where ⁓ Meryl Streep is like, it's just blue. Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. Yeah. ⁓ Cerulean or... Tita Lors: Yeah, Cerulean or whatever, and she like schools her on how that Cerulean turns into whatever thing that she's wearing, but it's just, it's just a color, it's just blue or it's just whatever. Yeah, I feel like that's what would happen for Demisombi, because there's so much in opera. Robin Axline: Yeah, no. Tita Lors: ballet that factors into acting in general. Okay like the way that you can get an emotion across with just the way you sing it or the way that you say it or like your facial expression there's so much power Robin Axline: ⁓ big time, yeah. Absolutely. Mm-hmm. Tita Lors: Maybe he should get schooled by Andrea Bocelli. Yeah, seriously. I know, go get educated, my guy. Robin Axline: That would be insane if he took him up on that. All right, Timmy, contact Andre Bocelli right now. Yes, absolutely. ⁓ man. So I just wanted to add one more celebrity that I thought was like super ironic that they'd be reaching out regarding this topic. ⁓ I don't know if you saw the movie Amelia Perez. Tita Lors: No, because I don't get it. Yeah. Yeah. Robin Axline: Okay, nevermind. the actor that ⁓ was Amelia was, her name is Carla Sophia Gascon, I think. ⁓ She had her own online backlash during the promotional season of the movie where she actually got kicked off part of the... tour to promote the movie because she started being Tita Lors: Hold on, let me make sure that I'm in your standing, which one it is, sorry, I know I keep interrupting you. But, Amelia Perez, is that the one with Zoe Saldana? right, and it was a musical, but it wasn't, like, I think that's, okay, yeah, but I was like, so is it a musical, or is it just a, and then I remember getting upset, actually, that they won Musical of the Year over someone else. Robin Axline: Yes. Yeah, it's a Spanish musical. Tita Lors: but now I don't remember who it was. But yeah, sorry. ⁓ okay. That trailer really confused me. So it's like, Robin Axline: It was fully a musical. So. Okay, yeah, it really, it's one of those ones where it's like you have to watch it to understand what it is because it, yeah. I thought Zoe Saldana killed it in my opinion and I was really surprised, but that's nevertheless. ⁓ Tita Lors: Okay, yeah. Okay, maybe I need to give it a second go and actually watch it. Robin Axline: I don't know. mean, it's quite a few hours of your life, so I don't know. But I did enjoy it at the time. It was very different. ⁓ Anyway, ⁓ so Sophia was kicked off the press tour. She wrote a book, but the publishers canceled the publishing. And it's mostly... Tita Lors: Okay. Robin Axline: because of some of her behavior, but also just some tweets that popped up that she had written in the past that were bigoted and just like really ⁓ not And after kind of got got, she deleted her ex ⁓ and the but I'm sure the internet has the receipts, yeah. So ⁓ out of all people to make a comment, she went on social media and did like a sarcastic meme about Timothee Chalamet. Tita Lors: everything. ⁓ Robin Axline: And I'm just like, wow, she even calls herself a victim of cancel culture and then do like, wow, somebody take the phone away from her. Yeah. So I just thought that was pretty ironic as well. ⁓ But ⁓ then I think it was like a week or so ago, Jeopardy actually had an opera ballet category and then made a reference to him and. ⁓ I think they even put on Instagram like, don't at him or something. Like, damn, Petty Jeopardy, okay. Like, everybody's like getting involved. Everybody has something to say. ⁓ So I have a question for you. What, ⁓ wait, why do people get so emotionally invested in criticizing celebrities that they don't actually know? Tita Lors: You Right. Like, I'm not expecting you to do this horrible thing or say this horrible thing. would never have. You're my friend. You're like, you're my guy. Well, why would you say that? What the hell? And so then everyone just takes to the socials and media and all the stuff to call them out as you would probably call out a friend. Right. Like if you want to be a good friend, you want to be like, I don't know. Pull them off to the side and not embarrass them and be like, maybe that wasn't the best thing to say. But. Robin Axline: Yeah. Yeah, seemingly. ⁓ I guess this is another question I have is why does outrage online feel so good in the moment? I mean, it doesn't feel good for me, but I guess it just boggles my mind when there's people that just take to the key. They're called keyboard warriors and they just like. I don't understand. It must feel. It must be some dopamine hit. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Well, it's a lot of like... I don't want to make assumptions about the types of people who would be a keyboard warrior, right? Robin Axline: that. Yeah, no, totally. then they've got the safety of hiding behind the screen, so there's no or little repercussions. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Like, I remember this one time I had, I don't usually comment on stuff, but the thing that the person was saying, it was really kind of, um... Robin Axline: Hmm. Tita Lors: I would never do that. I'm a nice guy type of situation. Yeah, right. Exactly. So I typed back, said the rapist or said every as I said the rapist, I said, said every rapist everywhere. Right. So that's usually what somebody would say to be like, I would. Of course, I didn't do that to them because I'm a nice guy. Right. They would never admit that they did this to the person. And I didn't say that he was a rapist. Robin Axline: ⁓ God, nice guys. AHHHH 100%. Yeah, I'm more in that camp, I think. ⁓ But thanks for sharing that. That's a perfect example of like the other side to that. Yeah, so I guess. Tita Lors: you Robin Axline: Alright, I'm gonna address maybe the elephant in the room, but... Some people are saying, we defending the arts like ballet or opera because we actually love it or because we feel like we have to or we should? ⁓ I actually saw a meme that was like had a person ⁓ on a podium and there was an audience, it was a cartoon and they were like. everybody do you like ballet and opera or something and everybody raised their hand and they're like, okay, so is anybody planning to go? And then there was like no hands up or something like that. And I was just like, ⁓ man, that's wild. Like I do feel like it's a tradition and probably a lot of people in their mind are like, ⁓ yeah, you can't say anything about that as well, just to play kind of devil's advocate. But I think. I don't know, personally I feel like it's tough. I actually had, I don't know. Tita Lors: Yeah, sorry, unpopular opinion real quick, potentially unpopular. It's kind of I enjoy opera ballet. I enjoy live like performing arts stuff. However, it's kind of elitist to presume that everybody who enjoys it and would love to go would be able to. Right, like not, I love it, but I can't afford to go watch an opera whenever I want to. I can't afford to watch every single musical that I want to watch. There's so many. have access to movie theaters or sorry, to theaters to watch these things. But do I have the financial ability to do it? No. So it's kind of elitist to assume that just because you like it, that you would be able to go and watch it. I would have to set money aside in the same way that like it's so much harder now to go to a concert because concerts are so expensive. I wait like I have a concert venue walking distance from me and I wait for deals in the summer to be able to watch the people that I want to watch, because if I just buy the tickets. Robin Axline: No, yeah. Yeah, no, that's an insanely brilliant point on that. ⁓ A good like kind of side thought for sure about actually attending these things versus appreciating them even. ⁓ yeah, yeah, fair. ⁓ Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I honestly feel that way ⁓ when I really want to go see a musical on Broadway here and I'm in the arts and I can't afford a ticket. And it's like upsetting because I mean, not to, I don't know, sometimes when I... Tita Lors: Hahaha Robin Axline: do go to a production, you see a lot of the audience are people that can obviously afford those tickets. the most part, of course, there's ⁓ and that sort of thing. And of course, there's the lottery of it all ⁓ ways you can ⁓ get some kind of discount. But it just seems like there's so many hoops you have to jump through to be able to just go to something so simple, or it should be. So it is very frustrating as somebody that's not in one of the higher ⁓ income brackets. Yeah. But ⁓ yeah, no, that's a really I like that. Good way to good way to look at it. But I guess my thing is like, still a lot of respect for those art forms and all performing arts in particular, especially because I grew up going to countless performances with my and. also performing in a lot. I've been child actor and even as a teen ⁓ some operas and plays. And so I feel such a kinship for the work that goes into putting on these productions is like insane. I mean, the costumes and the orchestra, et cetera, et cetera. ⁓ So yeah, I mean, it's employed so many people for one. ⁓ And it's just beautiful when when these productions are out. mean, luckily, as a ⁓ when I was a performing arts student, I was able to take full advantage of student discounts. so I did go to a few Metropolitan operas and things like that. So I do have a deep appreciation, so I feel like it's a little more slanted in my mind. But ⁓ what I was going to bring up, though, is I had a couple of visitors. Tita Lors: You Robin Axline: stay at my place recently and coincidentally one of my visitors was visiting we actually went to a musical and he was like ⁓ do you go to the opera i love the opera it's so fun i wish we had more time we could go to an opera and i was like ⁓ absolutely that would be so cool maybe next time then like a couple weeks later i had like another ⁓ visitors it was a couple and we had gone to see some live music. And then afterwards I just said, what do you guys like opera or anything like that? We could do that. And the wife was like, ⁓ no, no, that sounds so boring. I would never. And she's like, I don't even think I could stay awake for even a third of the first act or something. And I was just kind of like, wow, like, I mean, that's the thing, though, opinions are so personal. And I guess that's what makes this Chalamet story so funny that everybody is like so up in arms. It's like, yeah, this one guy probably put his foot in his mouth or he did in front of a lot of people. Yeah, for sure, for sure. Yeah. Tita Lors: Yeah, you can see how uncomfortable he was he was like, ⁓ shit Robin Axline: But it just struck me, I was like, well, that's so funny that I had two totally different, like real reactions that had nothing to do with the story, recently. So I guess the petty part of the story for me is Chalamet saying opera isn't that popular. And then the entire opera and ballet world responded like he canceled Christmas. mean, I can see him just being super close minded and being kind of like a, he was probably a little bit cocky, ⁓ know, just a little bit cocky on the interview saying something he thought was funny maybe. And to think that it just blew up the internet and it's probably in everybody's water cooler conversation right now is kind of wild. ⁓ that's, yeah. think he's like 30, I think. Hold on, let me see. Let me fact check here. Yeah, he turned 30 December 27th. So, it's not that. ⁓ Tita Lors: No way, he looks like a child. Anyways. I was gonna be like I know I was saying for his generation like it's I mean how often are you getting exposed to to opera or whatever or sometimes like even if your parents liked it you probably had to listen to it so you hate I'm trying to make some kind of something so he's not so awful but ⁓ or that comment isn't so awful but I don't see it Robin Axline: I mean, I just feel like as a celebrity, kind of got to like think for two seconds. Tita Lors: Yeah, which he did not do until after it came out of his mouth. He's like, oh crap. Robin Axline: Yeah. There's even like polls online right now. Like I this I I don't think that's how awards work, but that he won't win the Oscar now. Yeah, I'm like, ⁓ no. I mean, that was an OK movie. I don't think it was the best, but it was good. Entertaining. Yeah, he did a good job. Bob Dylan, yeah. But that wasn't this time around. Yeah, that's, yeah, absolutely. Yeah, who knows? And I feel like he would have been exposed to performing arts growing up for sure, so. Yeah, I think he comes from a pretty, like, well, like, rounded background. Tita Lors: I like how we're both trying to not be...not say a mean thing. Robin Axline: I know. ⁓ Yeah, I mean, I just yeah, I kind of wonder. mean, without dragging this too long, I almost think it's a bit of trolling, perhaps. Like we were saying, it might just be like funny because I know he went to like LaGuardia High School, which is like one of the top performing arts programs. Tita Lors: Yeah, yeah, like. So you think he'd have an appreciation for performing arts? Robin Axline: Yeah, like and then to call out opera and ballet just, I don't know. See, it got us talking, so. ⁓ Right. Tita Lors: Yeah, I mean, here we are. And it's actually really good for opera and ballet because now... Now people are getting exposed to it in a different way through like pop culture and being like, well, what is it? And then having to maybe go watch something on YouTube and then decide for themselves if they like it. So maybe ultimately he kind of did a good thing for the performing arts community. It's like backhanded, not not on purpose, but like exactly, exactly. Robin Axline: Hmm. ⁓ Yeah, and no press is bad press, I suppose, but... ⁓ man, that's hilarious. No, I think you're probably right. It's got a conversation going. So hopefully for the better. Anyway, so that's my pediculture for today. I would like to move into our. I would like to say it's time for our pedi battle of the week. I hope you brought I hope you brought your boxing gloves in here today. Tita Lors: I think I think I have one. It's it's good enough that there's somebody making fan fiction about the story. Yeah, it is. It's weird. I'm going to have we're both going to learn about it again in real time because I apparently forgot the rest of it. Robin Axline: that's wild. OK. Okay. No problem. Sure. Yeah. I'm going to throw this one out. So the topic today is using someone using your favorite mug without asking. Tita Lors: Ooh, okay. So we'll do title for title first and see who we think we're gonna win, or who we think is gonna win. Okay, so mine is, ⁓ it's an M.I. the asshole again from Reddit. ⁓ And the title is, my girlfriend is angry that I call my friend by his name. Robin Axline: Okay. Tita Lors: Yeah, exactly right, like, you're like, why would you be an asshole for that? Robin Axline: Hmm, okay, well, I'm intrigued. Well, I could think of a few, we'll dig into that. can't wait. All right, so my story goes, someone uses your favorite mug without asking. Now... Tita Lors: Yeah, okay. Robin Axline: I'd say a lot of people, their favorite mug isn't just a mug. It's like your ritual, your little bit of joy in the morning. And so if somebody uses your mug... it could bother you in a way, right? ⁓ And you might just be like, well, that's unfortunate. I guess I'll just use another mug and hopefully they enjoy it. But this one came to mind because it's actually something that I've witnessed happen with somebody that I know. ⁓ basically, it's like... somebody uses your mug and all of a sudden your morning is like ruined. ⁓ And you feel like, and this, I feel like this is a relatable thing, but ⁓ basically you kind of feel like violated in a way. And that's kind of petty, of course. It's something you might like internally feel or you could express it out loud and blow it way out of proportion. Tita Lors: Yeah, or you could do something to the person who is your mic. Robin Axline: Ha ha But here's the thing is like. If somebody is visiting, per se, and uses your mug, and they don't know that it's your mug... ⁓ is that just super petty to get like that crazy in your mind about it? Just be like, ⁓ my gosh, that's my mug. They're using my mug. ⁓ I wish they could just stop using it. And say they even like they're visiting and they pick that mug and they use it for the whole week. And you're just like. No, no, no, no, no, this isn't no. ⁓ Tita Lors: ⁓ did Ian do this? Robin Axline: No, no, no. Yeah. No. ⁓ But basically, this said person ⁓ kind of blew it out of proportion and got like offended that this visitor was using their mug. Tita Lors: I'm like, Ian, we gotta talk. you Robin Axline: and basically complained about it to everybody else who lived in the house except for the person. And was just like, yeah, I'm gonna make your lives miserable until I'm not as upset about this. And like can't express it to the person. Now, you think they could just. Tita Lors: ⁓ my gosh. The one that matters. Robin Axline: let it go in their mind and go, it's okay. They don't know any better. On the flip though, I feel like if it is somebody that knows it's your mug and they're using it, that could be, there could be some pettiness around that or some passive aggressiveness. So I'm presenting that side as well. But ⁓ I would say the thing that tipped off said person is that eventually his mug was used. to clean the visitors dentures in. ⁓ Tita Lors: ⁓ no... Eww... Robin Axline: like the last straw and then he like hid the mug after that. Tita Lors: It would be... Yeah, would be... Oh no... I mean, know it's just dentures and I know it's fine, but like... This is my mug. I drink out of it every day. Now when I think about this mug, I'm gonna think about your dentures being cleaned inside my mug and I'm not gonna get the in it and I'm gonna think about like drinking your dirty... ew. No. Robin Axline: you And so like, I feel like for the rest of the visit, the person that was like offended about all of this was not incredibly ⁓ kind was a little snippy with this visitor who had no idea what was going on. And so I guess there's two kinds of pettiness here. It's like pettiness in your mind or actually like blowing up at the person. And then also like somebody knowing that it's your mug and using it and probably knowing that it might bother you because of your personality. Ooh, um, I could do go the easy way, but I'm going to go more like the offended person just keeping it in their mind, but like making everybody else's lives miserable except for the person. Tita Lors: Okay, so like, somebody's using their favorite mug and they're like making everyone else's lives miserable and never actually addressing it with the person who's using the mug. Robin Axline: Yes, and then eventually kind of making the visitor maybe a little bit uncomfortable, but they still don't know why. Tita Lors: Huh. Okay. Okay, cool. Yeah. There's a lot of... I'm like, I feel like I can guess. Robin Axline: ⁓ I'm not going to name names. I'm just going to keep it vague. That's what's going on. Okay. And also like, wish, no, I don't wish this was a drinking game. How many times I said mug. Tita Lors: You Robin Axline: I'd be on the floor. Anywho, long story short, too late. That's my nomination. Tita Lors: Okay. All right. So I feel like if this was an M.I.D. asset, I'd feel like everybody sucks in that situation, right? Because at some point you have to realize that there's something in the situation, what's happening here. And an adult person with good communication skills could be like... Robin Axline: Let's hear yours. Could you not? Yeah. Tita Lors: So I feel like everyone's being kind of an asshole. For sure the mug owner is being petty because they're not saying anything. And they're like making everybody else uncomfortable. yeah. ⁓ man, that's funny. I'm gonna, when we're off air, I'm gonna guess at who it was. Robin Axline: Alright, fine. Fair enough. Tita Lors: Okay, so this is again from Reddit. It's from AITAH, am I the asshole? And my girlfriend is angry that I call my friend by his real name. So. Everyone who knows my ex-boyfriend, 33 male, calls him either JT or by his name. I, 29 male, was never among those people. He introduced himself to me by his first name, Jude. So that's what I've always called him. Two years ago, he and I broke up due to him getting a promotion that included a ton of traveling. I love him and I definitely didn't want him turning down an opportunity like that for me. We tried long distance and it just wasn't sustainable for us. I'm a homebody through and through and I like having my person home with me too. I've been dating my current girlfriend, 29, female for about eight months now. Dude has recently transferred positions with his company again and is back in our city for the majority of the time. We didn't end on bad terms at all, so we're still friends. My girlfriend always said she was fine with that. After a group outing with him, my girlfriend and some other friends, she asked why I call him something different than everyone else. This has since turned into a multi-day argument where she claims that calling him by his first name when no one else does is too intimate. She said it's a relationship thing and that I need to start treating him like a friend. I said she's being ridiculous and unbelievably insecure. It's his name, not a term of endearment. Am I the asshole? So obviously nobody actually, or at least here on this podcast, we don't actually care if he's an asshole, but we do care if this is petty behavior. What do you think? Do you think either of them is being petty and why? Robin Axline: Yeah, for sure. ⁓ I like honestly, I guess the thing that I reacted to the most was the person saying like, I don't feel comfortable with you saying that name. But like, it's not clear if they had a conversation with Jude or whatever, JT or yeah. Tita Lors: Yeah, Jude. Robin Axline: ⁓ Like had a conversation about that and they were just going to battle for him or like or if the person that called him that should have had a conversation with him and been like, do you want me to call you something else or or or did he tell her don't call me that? I guess. Yeah. Mm-hmm. It's tough because at least she's speaking her truth and she's not being passive aggressive about it. Tita Lors: Yeah. Yeah, I don't like that he was like, basically, shut up, stop being so insecure to her. Right. This isn't I mean, I hope that that's not the way he said it, but it's how I would have interpreted it. Like, you know, stop being so insecure, blah, blah, blah. But if your partner is saying. Robin Axline: Yeah. Yeah, definitely. Tita Lors: He didn't write loved back or past tense, but currently still love this person. So people are pointing this out and now like nothing bad happened, but now he's back in your life. If she knows anything about it, like it makes a lot of sense for there to be insecurity. Robin Axline: Yeah. ⁓ yeah, definitely. ⁓ True. ⁓ Yeah, yeah, because it's a new dynamic with a new in the mix. ⁓ But I still am kind of going back to like, why don't they both just talk to Jude and say like, what would you like to be called? Maybe. Like just have a big discussion with the three of them, even if it's really hard to do. Just to squash it. I don't know. Hmm. just, yeah, I mean, yeah, that's hard. Cause it's hard when somebody from the past knows you as something else. I mean, I guess it's just because I was involving him because he didn't say, don't call me that, the girlfriend did. So it does come across a bit petty that way. Cause it's like, well, he didn't tell me to stop. So, however. Tita Lors: Yeah, Yeah, where she's like... ⁓ Robin Axline: If it does bother her enough to bring it up, then you probably should stop and stop being an asshole. ⁓ Tita Lors: Exactly, yeah. Right? Like you know this bothers your partner. Whether Jude wants you to call him Jude or JT or anything else, like, it bothers your partner. Robin Axline: Yeah, and if you, and if it's eating at you so much, then maybe you should just peace out. Like, cause I feel like there's gonna be a lot of resentment either way at this point. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah, true. I mean, so the comments are commenting. They're they're pointing out, right? The whole where he said, I love him. Somebody goes LMFAO, RIP girlfriend, hope she gets out of there ASAP. ⁓ Robin Axline: Ha ha ha. man. Tita Lors: Hold on, let me find. Somebody's doing a whole fan fiction about this. Yeah, where is it? ⁓ somebody goes, ⁓ my gosh, this is exactly the love triangle I need on my soaps. I'm rooting for the girlfriend, even though I know Jude and OP will fight their magnetic attraction for only so long. Autumn? No, it will be a holiday reunion. Robin Axline: ⁓ that's right, fan fiction. Tita Lors: Yes, there's like more. It's so good. ⁓ And people are like following for updates. Tell me more. Everyone's invested. And then somebody goes, they add a suggestion or is girlfriend lying about being pregnant because she's trying to prevent OP from abandoning her for Jude. There's so many possibilities. I'm like, wait, what happened? How did she get pregnant? I have so many questions. Robin Axline: you you ⁓ man. I hope they do write a fanfic about that. Tita Lors: You Yeah! It sounds like Jude and OP are getting back together in the fanfic. ⁓ hold on. And and other people are like backing her up and being like, yeah, but it's a it's legit jealousy. Like you have actively had these feelings right now for this person. But yeah. Okay, interesting stories, interesting stories. are brackets? Okay, So yours is the mug, but it's mug. like, what's ⁓ that movie? ⁓ The Stable? ⁓ It's stable. ⁓ Robin Axline: Yeah, but it's ⁓ yeah, stapler. Swing line. Tita Lors: Okay, so let's do the mug. How trivial is this behavior? Or no, how trivial are the results? What were the results of the mug thing? Right? Like everybody's uncomfortable. Ultimately is what happened. Yeah. Robin Axline: ⁓ I guess, excuse me. Yeah, I think everybody's just unhappy, truly. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Yeah, so I think... Trivialness? That doesn't seem... Robin Axline: mean, it's definitely... hmm. ⁓ mean, it's trivial for sure, because it's... not important. ⁓ but there is- ⁓ Tita Lors: But the results, yeah. But the results aren't, yeah, because we're doing how trivial the results are. So I don't think that's very trivial at all. Like you're impacting a whole group of people just because you don't have the guts to say, could you not use my mug? I'd say it's pretty up there, maybe like a seven, eight. What do you think? OK, do I do this? OK, yeah, yeah. Robin Axline: Yeah, so. Okay. Yeah, I'm with you on that. Seven. I'd say seven. How about that? It's hard when it's like passive, like, but it's not it's not spite. ⁓ Tita Lors: Yeah, it's pretty low in the spiteful. Robin Axline: No. Yeah, maybe three and half. Maybe three. Tita Lors: I- I- Yeah, I think I'm gonna go 3, because I was even gonna say 2, because there's nothing... Right, like, again, spiteful. Um, yeah, like, uh, showing or causing malice, right? Like, there's not- They're not trying to hurt people. They're just being, yeah, like, indirect about it. Yeah. I'll- I'll go with 3. Robin Axline: ⁓ I love this. No. Yeah, so I mean, yeah, I'm going to go too with you. OK. Yeah, let's do it. OK. ⁓ Tita Lors: you Robin Axline: I'd say it's pretty big up until the teeth part. Tita Lors: Yeah, yeah. Then it's an appropriate overreaction, because even I was like, no, no, you can no longer use my mug. No, that's the end. You have crossed a line, my guy. Robin Axline: Because... Yeah, I'd be like, mm-mm, mm-mm, mm-mm. Yeah, I'd be like. ⁓ Yeah, I would be like, here is a glass for you, sir. And that's it. ⁓ so, that kind of... I'd say ssss Tita Lors: Okay, yeah, it was gonna be like six. Yeah, it goes to six point five. We're doing half C's always. Okay, cool. All right, are you looking at the brackets or are you gonna be surprised? Robin Axline: Okay. Yeah. Can we do, are we doing half Z's on these? I forgot. Okay. Let's do six and a half. I don't see it, but okay. Tita Lors: Don't click on the source so you can be surprised. I'm gonna cover the results too so I can be surprised when I click over. Okay. So the real name. So we're gonna say the OP, him not wanting to call his ex by a different name. That's the petty behavior that we're exploring here. So how trivial is it? Robin Axline: Okay, okay Perfect. Yeah, it's more important. Tita Lors: Yeah, so the trivial results would be that like, these wouldn't be trivial results, I guess, like this is really going to impact your relationship if you decide to keep calling them by their real name. So. Robin Axline: Right, because like I said, there's going to be grudge and resentment happening. Tita Lors: For me, I think it's gonna have a high score you're ⁓ your whole which mean, you might not care about relationship you still love that guy. ⁓ Robin Axline: Mm-hmm. Yeah, I might throw it an eight. Tita Lors: Okay, I'm going to agree with you. Okay, is it spiteful behavior? Robin Axline: ⁓ it's... Yeah, that's hard to tell. I just feel like if... ⁓ go ahead. I was just gonna say if he's still doing it after she asked, then kind of. Tita Lors: Yeah, I don't, yeah. No, no, no, go ahead. Yeah, like, I don't think it's intentionally spiteful, but more just like because you're not being a caring partner. Right. Yeah. Let's see. I think I'm going to go somewhere in the middle with how spiteful this is because. OK. I'll agree with you. And then how much of an overreaction. Is it? Robin Axline: I'm gonna go five and a half. but from. Tita Lors: from him, like how much is he overreacting? I feel like he's not, he's not reacting enough. Robin Axline: I don't think he's like really... Yeah, he's not really reacting. Tita Lors: Yeah. Yeah, because I mean, I guess the reaction is that he's continuing to call. Or he's like questioning whether or not he's an asshole, I guess. So he's wondering about it. And if he should, this one's a hard one. Yeah. Robin Axline: I guess. That's really tough. If we take the question that he's wondering out of it, I would say it's more... ⁓ It's more of an overreaction. Cause he's like, ⁓ like telling me this kind of thing. Tita Lors: Yeah, well like the whole, okay, the whole part of like, you're being so insecure. That, that reaction. Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, okay, yeah. Robin Axline: Yeah, that's what I meant. So in that case, I would say it's more of a reaction because it's like, ⁓ she's just being whatever. Tita Lors: Yeah. Robin Axline: Yeah, so in that case, I would say like six and a half, seven. Okay, let's go seven. Phew, that was a lot. Tita Lors: Yeah, I was gonna say seven. Seven. We need to do six now. Okay, cool. Who are you ready? That was, okay. Let's see. Okay, so who do you think won? The mug or the real name? Robin Axline: I think real name probably has more nuance to it. Tita Lors: Okay. Yeah. I don't know why I'm thinking the mug. But... Okay, let's see. So the mug got a 16 and the real name got... Robin Axline: I don't know. Tita Lors: Oh dang! You were correct. The real name got a 20.5. Yes, and actually beat out our current winner of Weaponized Inconvenience that was at 16.5. So the real name is now the current winner of this game. Yep. Robin Axline: ⁓ yeah. Wow, we got a new champion. Tita Lors: A new champion! We'll see if we can beat that guy out later. Alright. I know, petty battles are so fun. Robin Axline: Yes, let's do it. Oh, that was fun. I can't wait for the next ones. ⁓ But yeah, if you don't have anything else to say, think that about wraps it up. Yeah, so everybody, thanks for listening. it for today's petty chaos, if you will. ⁓ if you have a petty story to tell, send it our way. Lora Tita Lors: Yeah, I mean if you have any stories about yourself or people you know, any nominations you want to make for a petty person, then please send that to us. So yeah, but other than that, until next time everyone, Fuck it! Bye! Robin Axline: Stay petty.
