- 0:13Hello, friends. It is Sean, here it is Monday.
- 0:16It is a new week. It is the 22nd of May, and I
- 0:21hope you're doing well. I hope that in your part of the
- 0:24world, wherever you are my part of the world, it is chilling,
- 0:28right down. And we are entering into the the
- 0:31cold time of year with Dave's are getting short.
- 0:35If you are with me then, good luck as we enter these chili or
- 0:39weeks. And if you're on the other side
- 0:41of the world, bully for you, enjoy your long days and you
- 0:44warming weather, but warming weather cooling weather.
- 0:48Let's put that aside because right now, we are going to take
- 0:52a step back in time as we join the Israelite people, as they
- 0:57make their way toward Mount Sinai where, By the end of the
- 1:00week on Thursday, we will have that epic encounter with God as
- 1:06he gives them the ten commandments.
- 1:08So, this is the week that we are walking toward the mountain.
- 1:12That sounds awfully adventurous of us.
- 1:15I'll be Frodo. You can be Samwise as we walk
- 1:17will, hopefully not Mount doing back.
- 1:19We Will Walk to Water Mountain, so let us go back there.
- 1:24Join the Israelite people see what's happening with Moses.
- 1:28As we read together, Exodus. In chapter 17.
- 1:42At the Lord's command, the whole community of Israel left.
- 1:46The Wilderness of sin and moved from place to place eventually,
- 1:51they camped at rephidim but there was no water there for the
- 1:54people to drink. So, once more the people
- 1:57complained against Moses give us water to drink.
- 2:01They demanded quiet, Moses replied.
- 2:05Why are you complaining against me and why are you testing the
- 2:09Lord? That old man.
- 2:11Stood by thirst. They continued to argue with
- 2:14Moses. Why did you bring us out of
- 2:17Egypt? Are you trying to kill us our
- 2:19children and our livestock with thirst then, Moses cried out to
- 2:24the Lord. What should I do with these
- 2:27people? They are ready to Stone me.
- 2:30The Lord said to Moses walk out in front of the people, take
- 2:35your staff. The one you used, when you
- 2:38struck the water of the Nile and calls.
- 2:40Some of the Elders of Israel to join you.
- 2:43I will stand before you on the Rock at Mount Sinai strike, the
- 2:47Rock and water will come gushing out then the people will be able
- 2:52to drink. So Moses struck the rock as he
- 2:56was told and water gushed out of the elders.
- 2:59Looked on Moses name, the place Mussa which means test and
- 3:05meribah, which means arguing because the people of Israel
- 3:09argued with Moses and tested the Lord by saying is the Lord here
- 3:15with us or not. While the people of Israel were
- 3:19still at rephidim the Warriors of amalek attacked them, Moses
- 3:24commanded, Joshua choose, some men, and go out and fight the
- 3:28army of amalek for us tomorrow. I will stand at the top of the
- 3:32hill holding the staff of God in my hand.
- 3:36So Joshua did what Moses had commanded and fought the army of
- 3:40amalek. Meanwhile, Moses Aaron and Hur
- 3:45climbed to the top of a nearby Hill.
- 3:47He'll as long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the
- 3:51Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his
- 3:54hand, the amalekites gain the advantage.
- 3:58Moses arms soon became so tired, he could no longer hold them up.
- 4:03So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on then they
- 4:07stood on each side of Moses holding up his hands so His
- 4:11Hands Held steady until sunset as a result Joshua.
- 4:17Whelmed the army of amalek in battle after the victory.
- 4:22The Lord instructed Moses, write down on a scroll as a permanent
- 4:27reminder and read it aloud to Joshua.
- 4:30I will erase the memory of amalek from under heaven.
- 4:36Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh.
- 4:39Nissi, which means the Lord is my banner.
- 4:43He said they have raised their fists against the Lord's,
- 4:47Throne. So now the Lord will be at war
- 4:51with amalek generation after generation.
- 5:04Lord, what a wonderful story that you share with us in this
- 5:08chapter. That we see Moses with his hands
- 5:12raised high and you being with his people.
- 5:18What a wonderful image of your constant gaze in our lives.
- 5:22When we feel like you're absent or busy or things are on
- 5:25autopilot, what a great reminder that your gaze is ever
- 5:30attentive. Ever-present, thank you.
- 5:34That you are a God who is intimately involved in each step
- 5:37of Our Lives. We lift you up and we praise you
- 5:41and it's in the name of Jesus. That we pray all these things.
- 5:45Amen.
