Transcript
- 0:00BRIAN DERRICK: I'm Brian Derrick.
- 0:00GLENNIS MEAGHER: And I'm Glennis Meagher.
- 0:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: Welcome back to Vibes Only.
- 0:03BRIAN DERRICK: Election Day is Tuesday, and the polls are literally all over the place.
- 0:08BRIAN DERRICK: So make sure that you have a plan to actually vote, and then follow oath.vote to get election results as they come in on Election Day.
- 0:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: Brian, did you vote yet?
- 0:18BRIAN DERRICK: I have not, but I plan to vote in person early on Thursday.
- 0:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: Great.
- 0:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: Today, we're discussing the races to watch, the polls you truly can't trust right now, and the Ramaswamy ad on Amy Acton that is still dividing Republicans.
- 0:32BRIAN DERRICK: We've also got some impeachment ideas for our next Congress, new allegations about Jared Kushner's insane corruption, taking billions of dollars from foreign leaders, and a GOP running on billionaires instead of grassroots support.
- 0:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: Let's get into it.
- 0:52BRIAN DERRICK: Do you know that meme that's like," GLENNIS MEAGHER: Just do it.
- 0:56BRIAN DERRICK: Just do it already.
- 0:58BRIAN DERRICK: It's fine." Do you know what I'm talking about?
- 1:01BRIAN DERRICK: No.
- 1:01BRIAN DERRICK: It's a millennial driving behind- I'm ready … a truck with all the logs.
- 1:04BRIAN DERRICK: Let's do it.
- 1:04BRIAN DERRICK: Oh, yeah.
- 1:05BRIAN DERRICK: It's carrying a bunch
- 1:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: of- Let's do it.
- 1:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's okay… BRIAN DERRICK: logs, It's okay.
- 1:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: I do
- 1:08MILLENNIAL MEME: not care if you- I've been through enough Just do it
- 1:17BRIAN DERRICK: And that's how I feel with the election.
- 1:19BRIAN DERRICK: That's where we're at, is Final Destination stage of the midterm cycle.
- 1:26BRIAN DERRICK: Less than one week to go.
- 1:28BRIAN DERRICK: How are we feeling?
- 1:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: I feel good, tired.
- 1:32GLENNIS MEAGHER: You know… Okay, I've been having this conversation a lot, which is especially with people who are in politics, not in politics.
- 1:39GLENNIS MEAGHER: Your world is your algorithm.
- 1:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: You're convinced that what's happening is what you're seeing on your for you page.
- 1:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: So if you're seeing just video after video after video of people saying,"I'm voting early, I'm voting blue," the algorithm is tricking you.
- 1:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: You have played a starring role in this film in 2024 with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
- 1:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: Do not think that everyone has a voting plan and that everyone is voting the way you think they are.
- 2:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: So we have one week left.
- 2:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: Text everyone you know and make sure they have a voting plan, are actually going to go vote.
- 2:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: That's how I feel.
- 2:13BRIAN DERRICK: It's true.
- 2:14BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, 100%.
- 2:15BRIAN DERRICK: Nope, that's, that's right.
- 2:16BRIAN DERRICK: I think we all live in digital bubbles that tell us what we want to hear for the most part, or tell us what the algorithm knows we'll react to.
- 2:26BRIAN DERRICK: Couldn't agree more.
- 2:26BRIAN DERRICK: I think a lot of people are drinking the Kool-Aid.
- 2:29BRIAN DERRICK: It's genuinely wild to see so many people just feeling great because of the polls and pointing at the polls after the last few election cycles.
- 2:37BRIAN DERRICK: I'm like, "Have we learned nothing?"
- 2:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: Have we learned nothing?
- 2:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: And I was just in Michigan last weekend, go Blue, and the amount of people who were giddy about voting for Mike Rogers was-
- 2:52BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, I'm sure
- 2:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: astounding.
- 2:54GLENNIS MEAGHER: And then you look at the Democratic primary where El-Sayed only won by, you know, 1%, 2%.
- 3:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's gonna be close.
- 3:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: Everything's gonna be close.
- 3:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: So-
- 3:05BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah… GLENNIS MEAGHER: please, door knock, donate to Oath.
- 3:10BRIAN DERRICK: Do something.
- 3:12BRIAN DERRICK: We have six days.
- 3:15BRIAN DERRICK: Five when this comes out.
- 3:18BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 3:19BRIAN DERRICK: Lay it all on the line, baby.
- 3:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 3:22BRIAN DERRICK: Okay, should we get into the news of the week?
- 3:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yes.
- 3:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: As I'm- Okay … chugging my coffee, yes.
- 3:27BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, I mean, just to start with an overall snapshot, what are you watching for on election night?
- 3:36BRIAN DERRICK: Because this is the last time people will hear from us pre-election day.
- 3:41BRIAN DERRICK: So-
- 3:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah… BRIAN DERRICK: what, what races are As you know, I'm on this, like, Senate swing, so I'm gonna be tracking these seats that me and, and, and the team I'm working with felt that we could win by doing these huge activations in states.
- 3:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: So Iowa, Georgia, of course, Michigan, Ohio, Texas.
- 4:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'll be in Texas this weekend.
- 4:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: That's a personal thing, right?
- 4:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: When you put like blood, sweat, and tears into a specific race, you're looking to see if there's any return on your, on your physical and personal investment there.
- 4:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: But of course, like- The House, I'm very, very keen to see how that plays out and how quickly it plays out.
- 4:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: You know, election nights are always a bit traumatic.
- 4:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: You see these numbers come in, and you're like, "Okay, okay, okay." I'm also gonna be looking out for, like, any weird things happening.
- 4:33GLENNIS MEAGHER: I don't know if you've been following, and I- we debunked this, I think, last week with what was happening in Tennessee, but Trump is up to some bullshit, and I'm just gonna be kind of tracking to see how the states are responding.
- 4:45BRIAN DERRICK: For sure.
- 4:46BRIAN DERRICK: That makes a lot of sense.
- 4:47BRIAN DERRICK: I think that those are the races that people are most keyed in on.
- 4:51BRIAN DERRICK: So I think a lot of people are gonna be watching Steve Kornacki- Yeah … looking for news about Abdul El-Sayed, Troy Jackson, obviously Ossoff, fricking James Talarico, man.
- 5:04BRIAN DERRICK: James Tala-freak-o, definitely gonna be the, the one to watch.
- 5:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: Both of- Troy Jackson, of course, Maine.
- 5:11GLENNIS MEAGHER: I didn't say Maine, but that's Maine.
- 5:13BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, 'cause they don't have a f- football.
- 5:15BRIAN DERRICK: Like- I know … who's playing football in Maine?
- 5:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: Go for a hockey game.
- 5:18BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 5:18BRIAN DERRICK: You're like, "I'm not going there." I-
- 5:20GLENNIS MEAGHER: Freezing outside… BRIAN DERRICK: only will-- college football stadiums.
- 5:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, what are we talking about?
- 5:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well, speaking of cold, Alaska.
- 5:29BRIAN DERRICK: Alaska.
- 5:30BRIAN DERRICK: I know for sure you're not going up there, girl.
- 5:33GLENNIS MEAGHER: No.
- 5:34GLENNIS MEAGHER: Did you see the New York Times post this morning about maybe South Carolina?
- 5:41BRIAN DERRICK: Um
- 5:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: I know you're gonna say absolutely not, but the Times is doing some clickbait there and saying that Darline's not doing a good job GOTVing for South Carolina.
- 5:51BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, totally.
- 5:52BRIAN DERRICK: I, I think that there's all of these races that polling is currently telling us are on the edge that are really unexpected.
- 5:59BRIAN DERRICK: I got a call yesterday from someone who's very deep in pollster world, and they're like, "I have one really solid poll showing that X race.
- 6:12BRIAN DERRICK: I'm like, I don't know how much of this I can say.
- 6:14BRIAN DERRICK: Showing that- Oh … X race is within one, and then I have another really excellent poll showing that it's a 10-point margin.
- 6:22BRIAN DERRICK: Same race.
- 6:23BRIAN DERRICK: So-- Same race.
- 6:25BRIAN DERRICK: Same race.
- 6:25BRIAN DERRICK: So they're like, "I don't know what the fuck is going on." Um, which is a reality of, of this cycle.
- 6:33BRIAN DERRICK: Again, we've ta- I think we've talked about this before.
- 6:34BRIAN DERRICK: It's all about who the pollsters think are going to show up on election day.
- 6:42BRIAN DERRICK: Because when you have input from 1,000 people for a poll- Right … you have to estimate how well those people represent different parts of the electorate, and you have to know who the electorate is in order to do that.
- 6:54BRIAN DERRICK: So with, with turnout being so high, in many states we're seeing turnout numbers of the early vote above 2024, above a presidential.
- 7:04BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 7:04BRIAN DERRICK: It throws a lot of assumptions about what a midterm electorate looks like out the window.
- 7:10BRIAN DERRICK: And so the more different the, the turnout is from expectation, the worse the polling is going to be.
- 7:19GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 7:20BRIAN DERRICK: I think that people often think of polling as like,"Oh, it's a random sample," and therefore you just, like, extrapolate that essentially the entire electorate or state or country or whatever feels the same way that these random 1,500 people felt.
- 7:36BRIAN DERRICK: That is not how polling works.
- 7:38BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, there's a real chance that we have a systemic count- like nationwide polling miss.
- 7:46BRIAN DERRICK: That is an actual possibility.
- 7:48BRIAN DERRICK: Of course.
- 7:49BRIAN DERRICK: I mean- And it goes to your earlier point.
- 7:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 7:51GLENNIS MEAGHER: We've seen it before.
- 7:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: We can see it again.
- 7:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: And I guess also we're looking to see if Republicans sit out too.
- 7:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: They're not impressed with the candidates.
- 7:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: I think some of these Republican candidates are historically bad, hyperbolically bad, hyperbolically corrupt.
- 8:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: And we'll see if people… You know, Donald Trump is literally saying to Republican voters, "Pretend I'm on the ballot as a proxy or replacement for the, you know, Ken Paxtons that are on the ballot." So let's see if we can just keep doing the work that we do.
- 8:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: What are you, what are you looking for specifically on election night?
- 8:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Um- In your, your war room.
- 8:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: Are you gonna have a little war room set up at the office?
- 8:30BRIAN DERRICK: Oh, we're gonna have a war floor, baby.
- 8:34BRIAN DERRICK: War floor.
- 8:34BRIAN DERRICK: The whole office, the whole thing back there.
- 8:37BRIAN DERRICK: We're gonna have boards and sheets.
- 8:39BRIAN DERRICK: We, we have the timing of exactly when polls drop in, in every place, how quickly they're expected to count, um, so that we're looking at exactly the right thing at exactly the right time.
- 8:49BRIAN DERRICK: Uh, we have all this stuff prepped for how we're releasing news.
- 8:53BRIAN DERRICK: We're doing an election night bingo board, so it will help our audience follow along and like know what to look for at what time that actually means something, not just whatever the news is sort of putting out as a, a major projection.
- 9:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: So can people just follow, if they follow you, they can follow-
- 9:11BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, diva.
- 9:12BRIAN DERRICK: Follow me, follow the Oath account.
- 9:13BRIAN DERRICK: You need to follow Oath on- Okay … on Instagram.
- 9:16BRIAN DERRICK: @, @. And-
- 9:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: What's the @ so people
- 9:18BRIAN DERRICK: know?
- 9:19BRIAN DERRICK: @oath.vote.
- 9:20BRIAN DERRICK: Y'all better fucking know by now, TBH.
- 9:23BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 9:24BRIAN DERRICK: Um, I'm gonna be watching Amy Acton's race.
- 9:26BRIAN DERRICK: We have to talk about that race has blown up- Blown up in the last week and a half or so since Vivek Ramaswamy released what is widely being described as the worst political ad of all time, featuring Amy Acton's mom.
- 9:44BRIAN DERRICK: I'm-
- 9:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, we talked
- 9:45BRIAN DERRICK: about it last week… birth mother, I should clarify.
- 9:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 9:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: We talked about it last week.
- 9:47BRIAN DERRICK: Right, right, right.
- 9:47GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's a vile, evil ad that even Republicans are like, "Why did you do that?"
- 9:53BRIAN DERRICK: Totally.
- 9:54BRIAN DERRICK: There were some focus groups in Ohio where they took voters who had not seen the ad, played the ad for them, and they asked them who they were gonna vote for before and after.
- 10:05BRIAN DERRICK: It's a focus group, so you cannot extrapolate to everyone.
- 10:08BRIAN DERRICK: It is just- Yeah … one data point, but 7 out of the 10 Vivek voters switched their vote after seeing the ad to Amy Acton.
- 10:18BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 10:18BRIAN DERRICK: So- Yeah, it's just, like,
- 10:19GLENNIS MEAGHER: deeply un-Christian.
- 10:20GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's deeply unkind.
- 10:22GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, yeah.
- 10:24BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 10:24BRIAN DERRICK: I have a zillion House candidates that I feel really personally invested in.
- 10:28BRIAN DERRICK: I don't think we've talked about this much, but Oath has directed well over $100 million this cycle.
- 10:34BRIAN DERRICK: A lot of that, we haven't announced a number yet, but we will soon.
- 10:37BRIAN DERRICK: Uh, a lot of that has gone to flipping the House, 'cause we've known the whole cycle that that's where- Mm-hmm … races were gonna be the most underfunded.
- 10:45BRIAN DERRICK: It was the must, must, must win for the midterms.
- 10:48BRIAN DERRICK: And so as much as we want to get people to invest further down the ballot in state leg races, um, a lot has been invested in the House.
- 10:56BRIAN DERRICK: It- for good reason, for good reason.
- 10:58BRIAN DERRICK: And so that will definitely be a focal point.
- 11:00BRIAN DERRICK: I'm talking about people like Sam Forstag, Paige Cognetti, Janelle Stelson- … Joanna Mendoza, Rebecca Cooke, Randy Villegas, Matt Dunlap, Denise Powell.
- 11:12BRIAN DERRICK: So many.
- 11:13BRIAN DERRICK: Literally so, so many.
- 11:14BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 11:14BRIAN DERRICK: Jake Johnson, that's, like, a really tough reach one.
- 11:16BRIAN DERRICK: Jonathan Nez, also a really big reach.
- 11:19BRIAN DERRICK: Bobby Pulido, Johnny Garcia.
- 11:22BRIAN DERRICK: Like, those are almost-- Almost every single one of those is a seat that we could flip.
- 11:26BRIAN DERRICK: Those are all challengers.
- 11:27BRIAN DERRICK: Those are all seats that we can flip, which is really major and very exciting.
- 11:33BRIAN DERRICK: And then last thing that I'll say for election night, you know, I'm gonna be down in the weeds.
- 11:38BRIAN DERRICK: I'm gonna be in, in the dirt with the worms.
- 11:41BRIAN DERRICK: Like, l- I'm look- I'm looking at county-level election-
- 11:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah… BRIAN DERRICK: results.
- 11:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm looking at state leg races.
- 11:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: I think the biggest prize of the cycle for me is gonna be the Wisconsin Senate and Assembly, that I wanna see a trifecta in Wisconsin.
- 11:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 11:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: That would be huge for so many reasons, including that we would redistrict the state ahead of 2028, which would be additional Democratic pickups, 'cause it's currently gerrymandered for Republicans.
- 12:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: Pennsylvania Senate Probably the biggest reach.
- 12:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm not gonna say it's the biggest prize because I can't get my hopes up like that.
- 12:14GLENNIS MEAGHER: Right.
- 12:14GLENNIS MEAGHER: Um, but really, really tough for the first half of this cycle, m- more-- probably two-thirds of the cycle, people didn't believe that the Pennsylvania Senate would be in play at all, and there's like a narrow path for us to flip and get a trifecta in Pennsylvania ahead of 2028, which would also be huge.
- 12:32GLENNIS MEAGHER: Would be huge.
- 12:33GLENNIS MEAGHER: Let's see.
- 12:33GLENNIS MEAGHER: And then, you know, I'm seeing a lot of, of this like hopecore that I'm seeing on my social media, and people are saying, you know, effectively after November 3rd, the Trump administration could, could be lame ducked, right?
- 12:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: Snip, snip.
- 12:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: And it's like- Snip, snip… BRIAN DERRICK: snip, snip.
- 12:49GLENNIS MEAGHER: You're done.
- 12:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: You're done.
- 12:51GLENNIS MEAGHER: You're done.
- 12:52BRIAN DERRICK: Spayed.
- 12:53BRIAN DERRICK: Neutered.
- 12:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: What?
- 12:54BRIAN DERRICK: Spayed or neutered?
- 12:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well, it depends on the sex of the animal.
- 12:58BRIAN DERRICK: No, that's what I'm asking.
- 12:59BRIAN DERRICK: Spayed.
- 13:00GLENNIS MEAGHER: Uh, neutered.
- 13:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: Neu- uh, men are neutered.
- 13:04BRIAN DERRICK: I said what I said.
- 13:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay.
- 13:08BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah!
- 13:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: Um, now this is becoming like vet tech all of a sudden.
- 13:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: Um, if and when we flip the House, we're impeaching your asses left, right, and center.
- 13:18BRIAN DERRICK: Oh.
- 13:19GLENNIS MEAGHER: Or at least we better be.
- 13:20GLENNIS MEAGHER: I want this to be two years of straight up… I don't care if they're performative impeach- impeaches.
- 13:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: I wanna see im- performative impeaches- Impeachments LOL.
- 13:32GLENNIS MEAGHER: We're recording 30 minutes earlier today, and it's really funny.
- 13:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: I know, it's
- 13:35BRIAN DERRICK: very early.
- 13:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: But we both wake up early.
- 13:37GLENNIS MEAGHER: I don't know why today I'm, I'm just like-
- 13:40BRIAN DERRICK: Because it's the end of the cycle performative and behave … and we're cooked, and we're fucking cooked, man.
- 13:44BRIAN DERRICK: This is literally the end of the rope and then a little bit further, and we're clinging on by fingernails, and we just have to, like, collapse on the other side of polls closing.
- 13:53BRIAN DERRICK: That's it.
- 13:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 13:54GLENNIS MEAGHER: Performative impeachments is the name of the game.
- 13:59BRIAN DERRICK: Period.
- 14:00GLENNIS MEAGHER: So we should celebrate that.
- 14:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: I mean, that'll be a, a flip of the house.
- 14:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'll take it.
- 14:05BRIAN DERRICK: Here's the thing.
- 14:06BRIAN DERRICK: Here's the thing.
- 14:07BRIAN DERRICK: What?
- 14:07BRIAN DERRICK: The person most likely to get impeached, already a vote scheduled because of some shenanigans, whatever, in, in Congress this term.
- 14:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: Hegseth.
- 14:17BRIAN DERRICK: Hegseth.
- 14:17BRIAN DERRICK: Pete motherfucking Hegseth is getting, is going to get an impeachment vote when Congress returns in November.
- 14:24BRIAN DERRICK: His might not actually be all that performative because-
- 14:30GLENNIS MEAGHER: Right… BRIAN DERRICK: there's real risk.
- 14:32GLENNIS MEAGHER: No, yeah, it's a good dis- good distinction.
- 14:34GLENNIS MEAGHER: There's- Like, there are people that are, are worthy of impeachments because of their
- 14:39BRIAN DERRICK: actions.
- 14:40BRIAN DERRICK: And conviction and removal.
- 14:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yes.
- 14:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yes.
- 14:43BRIAN DERRICK: Like, Thom Tillis is out here roasting Hegseth alive.
- 14:48BRIAN DERRICK: You know what I mean?
- 14:49BRIAN DERRICK: There, there are Republicans, especially if a bunch of them lose, right?
- 14:53BRIAN DERRICK: Like, if Susan Collins loses reelection in Maine, she is gonna blame Trump and be more likely to go against the party and the administration.
- 15:05BRIAN DERRICK: Dan Sullivan in Alaska might be in the same boat if he loses- Mm-hmm … to Mary Peltola.
- 15:10GLENNIS MEAGHER: Who else do you want to be impeached?
- 15:12BRIAN DERRICK: Who else?
- 15:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 15:14BRIAN DERRICK: Oh, the whole gang.
- 15:16BRIAN DERRICK: Kool & the Gang.
- 15:18BRIAN DERRICK: Let's have a celebration.
- 15:20BRIAN DERRICK: Wait.
- 15:20GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 15:20BRIAN DERRICK: Celebrate… Wait, what's that song called?
- 15:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: Celebrate good times, come on.
- 15:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: Good times.
- 15:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: Come on.
- 15:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh.
- 15:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's a celebration.
- 15:29BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, there it is.
- 15:30BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 15:30BRIAN DERRICK: Okay.
- 15:30BRIAN DERRICK: Pretty much all of them have warranted it.
- 15:32BRIAN DERRICK: RFK, if you just look at public polling, is the one that people hate the most, even more than Hegseth, which shocked me, but there was new polling out that showed RFK with worse favorables.
- 15:43BRIAN DERRICK: It's
- 15:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: more tangible, especially against the MAHA movement.
- 15:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: What he's done is, is treason to them.
- 15:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: So yeah, that, that tracks.
- 15:52BRIAN DERRICK: Totally.
- 15:53BRIAN DERRICK: Okay.
- 15:53BRIAN DERRICK: Well, we have to talk about Hegseth.
- 15:54BRIAN DERRICK: Sorry.
- 15:55BRIAN DERRICK: Because- Uh-huh … did you see the shenanigans that they're potentially trying to pull because of this upcoming impeachment vote?
- 16:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: No.
- 16:03BRIAN DERRICK: If Marsha Blackburn wins the seat for governor in Tennessee Which seems likely.
- 16:13BRIAN DERRICK: Then her seat will become vacant, and apparently Hegseth is making a play-
- 16:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: I
- 16:18BRIAN DERRICK: saw this to be appointed to the seat because he, quote-unquote,"lives in Nashville," which I don't know if that's completely imaginary or just, like, a stretch.
- 16:28BRIAN DERRICK: I'm not really sure.
- 16:28BRIAN DERRICK: Mm-hmm.
- 16:28BRIAN DERRICK: But now they're, they're making a play to have him appointed to the Senate to avoid being impeached as a cabinet member.
- 16:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: What a loser.
- 16:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: What a loser.
- 16:38BRIAN DERRICK: Insane.
- 16:38BRIAN DERRICK: Either way, it's good to remember he's going to jail.
- 16:41BRIAN DERRICK: Either way, prison, and everyone's like, "But he's gonna get a pardon." No.
- 16:46BRIAN DERRICK: No.
- 16:47BRIAN DERRICK: We have so many tools at our dis- disposal.
- 16:50BRIAN DERRICK: We don't have to get into it right now.
- 16:51BRIAN DERRICK: It's not what today's episode is about.
- 16:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 16:53BRIAN DERRICK: But I know at least three ways that Hegseth ends up in a jail cell regardless of what paper Trump wants to sign on his way out of office or whatever he decides to do that.
- 17:04BRIAN DERRICK: So Hegseth is going to jail, and it won't matter if he's in the Senate, um- Yeah … at the time.
- 17:10BRIAN DERRICK: So he needs to, like, really soak up the next two years, go get the new, uh, Shake Shack shake.
- 17:19BRIAN DERRICK: I don't know if you saw that.
- 17:20BRIAN DERRICK: No.
- 17:20BRIAN DERRICK: But, like, he needs to go to the beach and just, like, vibe because that's gonna be over real soon.
- 17:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well, he needs to work out 'cause he's still not very strong, if you've seen him trying to do those bench presses, and it's like, "Ooh."
- 17:32BRIAN DERRICK: No, he can do that in prison.
- 17:34BRIAN DERRICK: Right.
- 17:34BRIAN DERRICK: That's perfect for- In- … for jail.
- 17:36BRIAN DERRICK: They'll get him- In the
- 17:37GLENNIS MEAGHER: yard… BRIAN DERRICK: in shape.
- 17:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yep.
- 17:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mm-hmm.
- 17:39BRIAN DERRICK: Yep, yep.
- 17:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 17:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay, yeah.
- 17:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: I mean, this is like, this is, this is when I get really excited 'cause each, each win, each Democratic win at the federal level, and to some degree at the state level, is one step closer to accountability.
- 17:54BRIAN DERRICK: Totally.
- 17:54BRIAN DERRICK: I mean, the subpoenas are about to come out of the House like, like, uh, Harry Potter with the, with the chimney.
- 18:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh, yeah.
- 18:07BRIAN DERRICK: That is gonna be- Or no, in the
- 18:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: Ministry of Magic.
- 18:10BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, exactly.
- 18:11BRIAN DERRICK: That is gonna be the Democratic House issuing subpoenas.
- 18:15BRIAN DERRICK: All these motherfuckers are coming straight to Congress to testify about their brazen corruption.
- 18:23BRIAN DERRICK: Did you see the latest on Jared Kushner?
- 18:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: I c- I don't even have the mental capacity to hold that… But which, by the way, also, this was the smokiest of guns.
- 18:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: This was a grenade launcher on fire of, like, how corrupt and insane this is.
- 18:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: Jared Kushner, who does not have an official government position but is, is negotiating on behalf of American citizens globally, particularly in the Middle East because Jared has a personal interest in the results of what happens in the Middle East.
- 18:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: So for those who missed it The Russians hacked Kushner's phone and then, or the Dutch hacked Kushner's phone.
- 19:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: One, one of them hacked the phone and then gave each other the information.
- 19:11BRIAN DERRICK: Correct.
- 19:12BRIAN DERRICK: It, it's, it's a long story there, but the, the short is that the intelligence services in the Netherlands had real time access- Screen mirroring to Jared Kushner's phone.
- 19:24BRIAN DERRICK: They could see every single thing he typed in, everything.
- 19:29BRIAN DERRICK: And watching that exposed bank accounts that he had that had received billion-dollar transfers, payments from-
- 19:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: From?
- 19:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: … BRIAN DERRICK: MBS and, whatever in the Middle East.
- 19:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: These are two personal Jared Kushner offshore hidden accounts straight to jail.
- 19:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: Where is Interpol?
- 19:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: The
- 19:56BRIAN DERRICK: fuck?
- 19:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, no, it is crazy.
- 19:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is crazy what, like, the blatant corruption that Jared Kushner, who again, is not a government official but is negotiating on behalf of the American people for all of these international conflicts and solutions, is getting paid by Saudi Arabia to do what
- 20:19BRIAN DERRICK: I mean, one of the things that he got paid for that was just linked in reporting within the last, I think, 14 hours, is that he was paid to get Rex Tillerson pushed out as Secretary of State in the first Trump administration.
- 20:38BRIAN DERRICK: That it was MBS connected, who he didn't, what, for, for whatever reason, and whatever conflicts were going on at the time, didn't want Tillerson as Secretary of State.
- 20:48BRIAN DERRICK: And so there's now reporting that shows he was paid, that Kushner was paid to lobby to get Tillerson out internally.
- 20:59BRIAN DERRICK: That is like, that is-- I, I think that meets the definition of treason, right?
- 21:04BRIAN DERRICK: Like-
- 21:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: Spy.
- 21:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: No, no, no.
- 21:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's-- He's 100% a spy on behalf of Saudi Arabia because he's getting paid to directly influence key government decisions in the United States of America.
- 21:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mind you, he's also independent of this corruption, a high net worth individual.
- 21:20GLENNIS MEAGHER: His family owns so much real estate in the city of New York.
- 21:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, they are multi, multi, multi, multi-millionaires, if not billionaires.
- 21:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: You.
- 21:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: The American people are paying more at the gas tank, or if you drive diesel, God bless you, but that's, you know, six, seven dollars a gallon, and Jared Kushner is just getting paid millions and millions of dollars to push people out of office.
- 21:46BRIAN DERRICK: They are billionaires AF, just to clarify.
- 21:49BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, so Josh, the brother, purchased the Lakers with former Disney CEO Bob Iger.
- 21:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, Josh married to Karlie Kloss, the infamous Project Runway line.
- 22:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: Not even to dinner with the Kushners?
- 22:08BRIAN DERRICK: And his net worth has also gone up suspiciously fast during the second Trump administration.
- 22:16BRIAN DERRICK: So I really just can't wait to tear these people open like a tin can, and I wanna look at every account.
- 22:24BRIAN DERRICK: I want everything published.
- 22:26BRIAN DERRICK: I wanna know where every dollar came from, and the people deserve to know what this administration has been up to.
- 22:32BRIAN DERRICK: So that is what we have in store for us.
- 22:34BRIAN DERRICK: First, I would say justice light for the next- Okay two years.
- 22:40BRIAN DERRICK: Democrats can definitely do stuff with subpoena power in the House, but it will be limited in our ability to enforce that and pursue charges of any kind.
- 22:54BRIAN DERRICK: Like, it, it won't really be an option.
- 22:55BRIAN DERRICK: They'll just be able to, like, refer people for, for criminal prosecution.
- 22:59BRIAN DERRICK: It's really still 2029.
- 23:01BRIAN DERRICK: I wanna set that expectation for people.
- 23:02BRIAN DERRICK: It's still- Yeah … 2029 when President Comes into office, guns a-blazing, that these people are just gonna be on the chain gang.
- 23:13BRIAN DERRICK: Like, I want handcuffs all around-
- 23:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mm-hmm… BRIAN DERRICK: straight to jail.
- 23:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: Straight to jail.
- 23:19GLENNIS MEAGHER: But for President Beep in 2029, the onus is a little bit on us, not you and me, Brian, but everyone who supports Democrats to make sure that our candidate is going to have an accountability administration.
- 23:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh, it's- Like, none of this, none of this, like, peace and reconciliation.
- 23:39BRIAN DERRICK: Mm-mm.
- 23:39GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, the only way our country can heal and move forward, if people are held accountable for the straight up robbing of American people and the dismantling of A- America's reputation and impact globally.
- 23:56BRIAN DERRICK: 100%.
- 23:57BRIAN DERRICK: It's a non-starter for me, and I think for a lot of people who were pro turn the other cheek in the Biden era have been totally radicalized by the complete and total failure of that approach to move the country forward.
- 24:12BRIAN DERRICK: We tried it.
- 24:13BRIAN DERRICK: We learned the lesson.
- 24:14BRIAN DERRICK: Merrick Garland-
- 24:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: Thank
- 24:16BRIAN DERRICK: you.
- 24:16BRIAN DERRICK: I was about to say that … probably single-handedly responsible- Yep… for second Trump administration.
- 24:21BRIAN DERRICK: And now to quote everyone's favorite Senate candidate, "We want heads on pikes." Like, we want- Who said that?
- 24:32BRIAN DERRICK: Abdul El-Sayed.
- 24:33BRIAN DERRICK: Didn't he get in trouble- Oh for saying that?
- 24:34BRIAN DERRICK: Something about-- He was talking about, like, ogres.
- 24:37GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh.
- 24:38BRIAN DERRICK: It's the Leslie Knope line.
- 24:39BRIAN DERRICK: Cut in the Leslie Knope line from Parks and Recreation.
- 24:44BRIAN DERRICK: Adam Scott's like, "Time to start waving a white flag, Leslie." And she's like- No … "The only thing I will be waving is your decapitated head in front of your weeping mother." Like, so fucking crazy.
- 24:55BRIAN DERRICK: That is what people wanna see.
- 24:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: You know what I also wanna see?
- 24:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: You know how, like, Trump has that stupid wall of, like- Yes … president and then, like, the autopen for Biden, which is just like, Trump, you're an idiot.
- 25:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: You can't even stand up straight without whatever.
- 25:10BRIAN DERRICK: An exoskeleton.
- 25:11GLENNIS MEAGHER: The exoskeleton.
- 25:11GLENNIS MEAGHER: We're
- 25:11BRIAN DERRICK: leaning into-
- 25:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: I, I refrained from saying the exoskeleton 'cause I didn't wanna bring it up again.
- 25:16BRIAN DERRICK: Glennis is so conspiracy theory-pilled, I can't even deal.
- 25:19GLENNIS MEAGHER: I know.
- 25:20GLENNIS MEAGHER: Someone said that I sound like being at the DNC in '24, where I, like, single-handedly pushed the rumor that Beyoncé was performing.
- 25:28BRIAN DERRICK: You did.
- 25:28BRIAN DERRICK: But- You did fuck that up.
- 25:29BRIAN DERRICK: You
- 25:30GLENNIS MEAGHER: did fuck that up.
- 25:30GLENNIS MEAGHER: I did, and then it-
- 25:31BRIAN DERRICK: You really-
- 25:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: Whatever.
- 25:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: But it just-- It, it was a, it was-- I was testing the- … the gossip ecosystem.
- 25:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: I want that to all be mugshots
- 25:39BRIAN DERRICK: Oh, hundo, completely agree
- 25:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay.
- 25:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: Wait, there's one thing I want, I wanna criticize Obama for one second.
- 25:47GLENNIS MEAGHER: Can I do it?
- 25:49BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, ju- you just have to whisper while you do it
- 25:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: No, so it's actually not impactful, but you know he made that joke about Trump's White House being like the Cheesecake Factory- Yeah … meets whatever?
- 25:59BRIAN DERRICK: Like Saddam Hussein launched a Cheesecake Factory, opened a Cheesecake Factory?
- 26:03BRIAN DERRICK: Yes.
- 26:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: Right.
- 26:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: I- and we can cut that in
- 26:05BARACK OBAMA: Let's be honest.
- 26:08BARACK OBAMA: Does anybody really think this guy in the White House right now is spending all that time thinking about these issues?
- 26:14BARACK OBAMA: No.
- 26:15BARACK OBAMA: I, I, I mean, I, I don't know if you've noticed, but he seems very focused on home renovations He should be on HGTV Guy's building a, a ballroom that's bigger than the White House.
- 26:33BARACK OBAMA: He's paved over the Rose Garden, put a hel- helicopter pad on the South Lawn, and, and there's gold everywhere.
- 26:40BARACK OBAMA: What's up with the gold?
- 26:44BARACK OBAMA: I, I, everything, uh, the more gold.
- 26:47BARACK OBAMA: He's got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory.
- 26:53BARACK OBAMA: Just gold everywhere
- 26:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: And then Trump came out and put out this AI slop video about the Cheesecake Factory to like show his base that he actually stands with those who like go to the Cheesecake Factory I go to the Cheesecake Factory.
- 27:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like what?
- 27:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, like Obama, no.
- 27:11GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like Cheesecake Factory, we are loyalists.
- 27:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like don't make fun of the Cheesecake Factory.
- 27:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: Also, it's expensive.
- 27:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: The Cheesecake Factory is expensive.
- 27:19BRIAN DERRICK: But- Well, everything's expensive.
- 27:20BRIAN DERRICK: We live in Trump's America
- 27:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's true, but The Cheesecake Factory is up there.
- 27:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: So I need to talk to Obama's speechwriter for that one because you missed the mark.
- 27:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: You missed the mark making fun of The Cheesecake Factory.
- 27:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: I won't tolerate slander against the Factory, as I call it.
- 27:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay, Brian.
- 27:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 27:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: Did you see the Politico article about GOP small dollar donations?
- 27:41BRIAN DERRICK: Oh, yeah.
- 27:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: This is a little bit like looking into '27, '28, and beyond.
- 27:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: MAGA has a problem that a huge chunk of their donations, the Republican donations, come from huge donors.
- 27:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: There's limited grassroots support for their movement and their candidates, which is very, very, very telling of the power of the party.
- 28:06BRIAN DERRICK: 100%.
- 28:08BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 28:08BRIAN DERRICK: I think the Republican money problems are stacking up, but they are hidden under headlines of"Republicans have so much goddamn money." That's like all- Yeah anyone can really talk about, myself included, because- 'Cause they do… they literally have so much money.
- 28:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: But it's about who's giving that money.
- 28:27BRIAN DERRICK: 100%.
- 28:28BRIAN DERRICK: And so two problems on the Republican side, one big problem on the Democratic side.
- 28:32BRIAN DERRICK: Two problems on the Republican side.
- 28:34BRIAN DERRICK: They are, as you exactly said, reliant on a handful of billionaires to prop up the entire ecosystem.
- 28:41BRIAN DERRICK: Oath has been talking about and writing about this for a long time because there's huge risk in that strategy.
- 28:47BRIAN DERRICK: There's benefits when it works because it's really easy to, to allocate money efficiently when one person or one team is doling out all of it, like Elon Musk spending $500 million.
- 28:58BRIAN DERRICK: But it's also risky because right now all these billionaires are incentivized to write gigantic checks, and all these companies and individuals in AI and crypto and all these things because-
- 29:10GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mm-hmm
- 29:10BRIAN DERRICK: they're in power and because they want favors.
- 29:15BRIAN DERRICK: Oh, yeah.
- 29:15BRIAN DERRICK: They want policy in exchange for their money.
- 29:19BRIAN DERRICK: That is a harder strategy to effect as a transaction when you're not in power, when you can no longer offer those things, those tax breaks, that exemption from the tariffs, whatever it is that someone's getting.
- 29:32BRIAN DERRICK: That's true.
- 29:32BRIAN DERRICK: Those pardons.
- 29:33GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mm-hmm.
- 29:33BRIAN DERRICK: And that's how they're raising all this money.
- 29:35BRIAN DERRICK: So that's gonna go away.
- 29:37BRIAN DERRICK: Number two, the other big problem facing Republicans is that all of their grassroots money, all of the money that's not being directly handed to them by billionaires Is tied to Donald Trump.
- 29:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mm-hmm.
- 29:48BRIAN DERRICK: It's 40% of-
- 29:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah
- 29:50… BRIAN DERRICK: donors are giving to Trump.
- 29:53… BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 29:53… BRIAN DERRICK: And he's not ever running for election again.
- 29:58… BRIAN DERRICK: So it's an extraordinary thing.
- 30:00… BRIAN DERRICK: You might be like, "Oh yeah, sure, Donald Trump's the leader of the party. That makes sense." No.
- 30:04… BRIAN DERRICK: An outgoing president who's term limited does not have that kind of fundraising power except for in a cult.
- 30:14… BRIAN DERRICK: And so when Trump goes away, that money is going away, too.
- 30:19… BRIAN DERRICK: He's already shown through his PAC, that he's technically not supposed to control, as a reminder.
- 30:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: Right.
- 30:25BRIAN DERRICK: MAGA
- 30:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: Inc. Um,
- 30:26BRIAN DERRICK: that he's not willing to spend his money.
- 30:29BRIAN DERRICK: He sees it as his personal piggy bank.
- 30:32GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mm-hmm.
- 30:32BRIAN DERRICK: And he's not willing to spend it for other people except in ways that benefit him.
- 30:37BRIAN DERRICK: And so the idea that he's gonna suddenly, like, turn over or turn on this fundraising machine to benefit all Republicans is a joke.
- 30:44BRIAN DERRICK: So Republicans actually have a huge problem on their hand heading into '28 and '30, that the billionaire money could dry up if just a handful of people decide this wasn't really worth it, I didn't get what I was paying for.
- 30:57BRIAN DERRICK: Fine.
- 30:58BRIAN DERRICK: And number two, Trump is no longer a motivating factor for people to give.
- 31:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 31:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: I also saw a stat this morning.
- 31:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: Elon Musk, in the last two years, has given more politically than George Soros ever has.
- 31:12BRIAN DERRICK: His whole lifetime combined.
- 31:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: His whole lifetime.
- 31:15BRIAN DERRICK: Disgusting.
- 31:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: Disgusting.
- 31:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: Disgusting.
- 31:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: Disgusting.
- 31:19GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, I just thought- And then- that was worth noting.
- 31:21BRIAN DERRICK: No, it is.
- 31:22BRIAN DERRICK: It is.
- 31:22BRIAN DERRICK: And then on the Democratic side, I just have to comment James Talarico has more donors to his campaign than all Republican campaigns this cycle combined.
- 31:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: I know.
- 31:37BRIAN DERRICK: And at first that's like such a flex.
- 31:39BRIAN DERRICK: That's like so cool.
- 31:40BRIAN DERRICK: Like wow, people are really on the side of democracy and Democrats.
- 31:45BRIAN DERRICK: Like we should just say it.
- 31:47BRIAN DERRICK: And as someone who's in these campaign finance reports and like looks at it every single day, I'm like, "What a fucking waste, man." I know.
- 31:56BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 31:56BRIAN DERRICK: I know.
- 31:57BRIAN DERRICK: Do you know how much money has been spent reaching those millions of donors?
- 32:03BRIAN DERRICK: Every single one of those names was bought on a list that's very expensive, and then they spent millions and millions-
- 32:10GLENNIS MEAGHER: Voters
- 32:10BRIAN DERRICK: and millions… Yeah, donor, donor lists.
- 32:13BRIAN DERRICK: Oh, yeah.
- 32:13BRIAN DERRICK: Right.
- 32:13BRIAN DERRICK: They're like going to data brokers.
- 32:15BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:15BRIAN DERRICK: The campaign is spending millions of dollars buying lists, and then tens of millions of dollars spamming the shit out of those people to get- Yeah … them to give that money.
- 32:23BRIAN DERRICK: The text messages that I get three times a day from James Talarico- Mm-hmm saying, "I'm gonna lose if I don't get 10 more dollars by midnight." I know, and it's
- 32:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: like my t- Okay.
- 32:32BRIAN DERRICK: When you have $200 million, is like it's so wasteful.
- 32:38BRIAN DERRICK: And so that is what I find frustrating and literally why Oath exists, is there has to be… There is a better way- There is a better way … to, to do this, but it's gonna take some heavy lifting.
- 32:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well, we have 27 to evangelize people to be giving early and often to, to smaller candidates, and not just throwing money at a candidate who quite frankly doesn't need any more of it.
- 33:02BRIAN DERRICK: Right.
- 33:06BRIAN DERRICK: The fact that James Talarico has already raised $200 million points to why it's so important for people to give to down-ballot races.
- 33:13BRIAN DERRICK: And so for our Oath candidate of the week, I'm going to direct people to Oath's max impact slate.
- 33:21BRIAN DERRICK: It's last-minute money that matters.
- 33:23BRIAN DERRICK: If you have not donated this cycle, today, when you're listening to this, is really your last shot to do so.
- 33:32BRIAN DERRICK: $5 can make an actual difference in a handful of races where they're just trying to keep their, like, digital ads that are super targeted to voters who have never heard of the candidate before up and, and like to reach every voter at least once before they go to election day, unlike Talarico or Ossoff, who have tens of millions of dollars and have already completely saturated the market with TV.
- 33:58BRIAN DERRICK: So there are still races where it can matter at the last minute, but today is essentially the deadline for that.
- 34:04BRIAN DERRICK: But if everyone who listens to the pod gave $5, we could actually- Yeah … put an entire campaign above their target for fundraising for the re- for the remainder of the cycle.
- 34:17BRIAN DERRICK: So go to Oath Vote, look at the max impact slate, or pick another t- one of our top issue areas and give that $5 today.
- 34:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Period.
- 34:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: Period.
- 34:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay, Brian, let's do some clickbait double-click.
- 34:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: We're gonna run through some headlines from the past week, and we're gonna decide if it's worth caring about.
- 34:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: President Trump makes surprising admission about AOC, quote, "Somehow I don't mind AOC that much," end quote.
- 34:43BRIAN DERRICK: This is a double click.
- 34:44BRIAN DERRICK: I found this so interesting.
- 34:47BRIAN DERRICK: Mm-hmm.
- 34:47BRIAN DERRICK: I was posting about this.
- 34:50BRIAN DERRICK: Like I mean, I was joking that Trump is a 20-year-long psyop from Democrats.
- 34:56BRIAN DERRICK: Wait,
- 34:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: I saw you, I saw you post that, and I was like, honestly, I think Trump would be anything to anyone if he knew he was gonna get as much money as he's gotten from the MAGA movement.
- 35:06BRIAN DERRICK: Totally.
- 35:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, if we were gonna make him the most corrupt president in the history of the world, not, not even like the United States, of the world.
- 35:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: If Dems would have done that, he would've been the head of like Dem heads or whatever.
- 35:19BRIAN DERRICK: In retrospect, it makes sense.
- 35:22BRIAN DERRICK: Like that trade-off makes sense.
- 35:23BRIAN DERRICK: Trump has completely destroyed the Republican Party for all the reasons that we talked about, and if Democrats have the best possible night that they could based on where polling is at, it will really signal the end of the modern, like Trump movement in a way.
- 35:42BRIAN DERRICK: Like, like coming back from that will be something different.
- 35:45BRIAN DERRICK: It will not be Trump's MAGA coalition.
- 35:47BRIAN DERRICK: It'll-- That will be dead.
- 35:49BRIAN DERRICK: And so that trade of, "Hey, you're gonna get a couple billion dollars by stealing from the American people in office."
- 36:00GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mm-hmm.
- 36:00BRIAN DERRICK: And y- for-- in exchange, you're gonna destroy the entire Republican Party.
- 36:05BRIAN DERRICK: I j- I just think it's kind of funny.
- 36:07BRIAN DERRICK: But yeah, him, him loving AOC just feels like, damn, he has no actual values or worldview at all.
- 36:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: And if you look at what he originally ran on, it's, it's like this populist platform of- Right.
- 36:20GLENNIS MEAGHER: Right, right, right … everything's too expensive, and I wanna make everything, your life better, more affordable.
- 36:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mm.
- 36:27BRIAN DERRICK: I do just wanna clarify that-
- 36:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mm… BRIAN DERRICK: the original argue, was not affordability.
- 36:37GLENNIS MEAGHER: It was build the wall and drain the swamp.
- 36:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well-
- 36:44BRIAN DERRICK: And it--
- 36:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 36:45BRIAN DERRICK: And so- I mean- Yeah… GLENNIS MEAGHER: he was leveraging the economy too, but then bla- othering, uh, b- making a scapegoat- For sure … of current government officials and- Right immigrants.
- 36:58BRIAN DERRICK: Totally.
- 36:58BRIAN DERRICK: Right.
- 36:59BRIAN DERRICK: And that was like the populist tie-in, so 100%.
- 37:02BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 37:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay, this is not actually a headline.
- 37:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: This is a clip I'm gonna play for you.
- 37:07BRIAN DERRICK: Uh-oh.
- 37:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: The BBC was in Michigan interviewing folks about the election.
- 37:12MICHIGAN VOTER: Do you worry that he's a bit too left-wing to win in Michigan?
- 37:15MICHIGAN VOTER: At this point, what do we have to worry about?
- 37:18MICHIGAN VOTER: anything but what we have.
- 37:20MICHIGAN VOTER: We're on our way to hell.
- 37:22MICHIGAN VOTER: So at this point, socialist, socialized, social, don't matter to me.
- 37:29MICHIGAN VOTER: Lower my cost of living.
- 37:31BRIAN DERRICK: 100%.
- 37:33BRIAN DERRICK: Nailed… I think it really nails the, um, the sort of flip- Mm-hmm … on conventional wisdom that has taken place in the last year, where trigger words like socialism, like communism, whatever, have lost their power- Mm-hmm as people have really started to cling to people who- Mm-hmm … look like them, talk like them, and are talking about the things that they care about.
- 38:06BRIAN DERRICK: Mamdani on childcare, buses, groceries, Abdul El-Sayed on money in your pocket.
- 38:14BRIAN DERRICK: Like-
- 38:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 38:16BRIAN DERRICK: Totally … it, it just loses its power.
- 38:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 38:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: The American people are just looking for elected officials who will fight for them and for their life and cost of living.
- 38:25BRIAN DERRICK: I thought you were gonna talk about the clip of the woman asking about Abdul El-Sayed's middle name.
- 38:30GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh, being in Michigan, that was all over my for you page this past weekend.
- 38:34BRIAN DERRICK: That was crazy.
- 38:37VOTER: Abdul's barely out there.
- 38:38VOTER: Um, he doesn't even say his real name.
- 38:41VOTER: Like, why can't you share your real name?
- 38:44RICHARD GAISFORD: What, wh- wh- what is his real name?
- 38:45RICHARD GAISFORD: His real name is Dr. Abdul El-Sayed.
- 38:48VOTER: You didn't see where he said it's Mohammed?
- 38:51VOTER: It's Abdul Mohammed El-Sayed.
- 38:53RICHARD GAISFORD: Yeah, but my name is Richard Paul Gaisford, but I always
- 38:55VOTER: introduce- But he's running for the Senate.
- 38:56RICHARD GAISFORD: No, but he wouldn't ne-
- 38:57VOTER: He should write his full name on there.
- 38:59RICHARD GAISFORD: Well, what is Mike Rogers' middle name?
- 39:01VOTER: But that's not, that's… Mohammed's not his middle name.
- 39:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: Dumb as rocks.
- 39:05BRIAN DERRICK: I mean, not surprising, but crazy.
- 39:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: Not surprising.
- 39:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mohammed.
- 39:10GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mohammed.
- 39:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: And she keeps saying it.
- 39:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, one, first of all, the name Mohammed, we'll have to fact-check this.
- 39:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is.
- 39:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: I think it's the number one name-
- 39:19BRIAN DERRICK: It is… GLENNIS MEAGHER: in There are more people in the world named Mohammed than any other name.
- 39:26BRIAN DERRICK: Okay, number one.
- 39:27BRIAN DERRICK: Number two, it was giving Barack Hussein Obama, you know?
- 39:31BRIAN DERRICK: Like… And then the reporter's like, "Well, what's Mike Rogers' middle name?" She's like,"That's not the point." I'm like, "Oh, okay, yeah, the point is that you're Islamophobic.
- 39:41BRIAN DERRICK: That's the point." Right.
- 39:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: But yeah, it wasn't surprising, but it was just… I mean, this is what I mean with all these conversations as I've been having on the ground or like, you know, I'm glad people are seeing that clip because there are a lot of people in the state of Michigan and in the United States of America who think that way and vote that way.
- 40:01BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 40:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: And as of right now, they are voting.
- 40:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: They are 100% voting.
- 40:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: So don't be fooled by your algorithm that everything is coming up roses for Democrats.
- 40:12BRIAN DERRICK: T. Nailed it.
- 40:14BRIAN DERRICK: In 42 of the 46 most competitive midterm House districts, incomes have been rising slower than inflation.
- 40:27GLENNIS MEAGHER: Double-click.
- 40:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: People can't afford to live.
- 40:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: People can't afford to live.
- 40:32GLENNIS MEAGHER: Costs are rising.
- 40:34GLENNIS MEAGHER: Salaries are not rising.
- 40:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: The federal minimum wage has been, has not been changed since 2009, I believe.
- 40:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is $7.25.
- 40:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: Many states in this country still have that as their minimum wage, $7.25.
- 40:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: That's what it costs for one gallon of diesel
- 40:57BRIAN DERRICK: It's crazy.
- 40:59BRIAN DERRICK: Wait, sorry, I have another one.
- 41:01BRIAN DERRICK: Okay, so a new poll from New York Times Siena, our fave-
- 41:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah,
- 41:06BRIAN DERRICK: I caught that shows that s- 70% of young voters now identify as Democrats or lean that way, which is a 15-point jump from just two years ago
- 41:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: Half, I mean, double-click, that's good news.
- 41:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: But just because they're polling that way today, does that mean, does not mean they're gonna poll that way in six months.
- 41:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: That's true.
- 41:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: I think people are v- are very, like, fed up with the two-party system, and maybe in this moment right now, they're like, "I am going to vote with or align with Dem candidates." But we can't count our chickens before they hatch.
- 41:43BRIAN DERRICK: Correct.
- 41:43BRIAN DERRICK: Yep.
- 41:44BRIAN DERRICK: And who do you think is gonna be the one to fuck it up?
- 41:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: Dems.
- 41:49BRIAN DERRICK: But who?
- 41:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh, wait, what do you mean?
- 41:52BRIAN DERRICK: Which Dem?
- 41:53BRIAN DERRICK: Who's gonna be the one that- Fucking Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer are gonna fuck- Uh-oh … it up.
- 41:57BRIAN DERRICK: Like, the p- … the problem with being back in power is that we have to see their stupid faces all the time, and they're so incompetent.
- 42:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well, when we talk about accountability, we mean most urgently with Dems in power in the next two years.
- 42:11GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, there's no accountability in '29 if we don't start holding Republicans' feet to the fire the minute we have some sort of influence and power in government.
- 42:25BRIAN DERRICK: 100, 100%.
- 42:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Should we leave them with a good vibe, Brian?
- 42:30BRIAN DERRICK: I think we should.
- 42:31BRIAN DERRICK: I have one for you.
- 42:32GLENNIS MEAGHER: Let's hear it.
- 42:33BRIAN DERRICK: So there are over 60 ongoing cases in court right now about the midterm elections already, and the results, and the vote counting, and when ballots can arrive, and how they need to be marked, and all of these things.
- 42:46BRIAN DERRICK: And Trump continues to be ragdolled in court because they are making claims that they cannot back up and pushing for policies that are completely unconstitutional, and they're failing.
- 43:01BRIAN DERRICK: So recently, a panel of judges that were mostly appointed by Donald Trump slapped down their latest effort to sequester ballots in California because they feel like it.
- 43:15BRIAN DERRICK: And the judges essentially are saying that the federal government has no role in how that works, that elections are administered by states, and they need to stay in your lane.
- 43:27BRIAN DERRICK: So it's really good vibes on that front, particularly going into election day, that courts are going to continue to be guardrails against Trump's election attacks.
- 43:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: States' rights.
- 43:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: What's up?
- 43:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: Hell yeah.
- 43:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: I sound like a-
- 43:45BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, yeah,
- 43:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: yeah.
- 43:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 43:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: States' rights, baby.
- 43:47GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay.
- 43:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well, that's it for us this week.
