- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and here with me is the wonderful Luna. Luna: Hey Lucas. So, last episode we were all about music, and I'm still humming those tunes. But today, let's go somewhere new. I've been thinking about books. Lucas: Books, that's a great idea. And it reminds me, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Swahili, a handful of listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. That's what keeps this show going, no ads. Luna: Yeah, it's thanks to them we can make these episodes. So, if you've been enjoying learning with us, you know where to find that. Now, let's find those books. Lucas: Right, so today we're stepping into a duka la vitabu. That's a bookshop. Let's start with the first thing you'd ask. Luna: Duka la vitabu liko wapi? Where is the bookshop? Lucas: Perfect. Duka la vitabu liko wapi? Say it with me, slowly. Duka la vitabu liko wapi? Luna: Duka la vitabu liko wapi? Lucas: Great. That's your first phrase. Now, once you're inside, you probably want to say Nataka kitabu. I want a book. Luna: Nataka kitabu. I want a book. Lucas: Exactly. Nataka kitabu. You can use that for any book you want. Now, you see a book on the shelf, you want to know the price. Kitabu hiki ni bei gani? How much is this book? Luna: Kitabu hiki ni bei gani? That's a mouthful, but I'll try. Kitabu hiki ni bei gani? Lucas: You did it. Kitabu hiki ni bei gani? And you might hear the answer: Bei ni elfu tano. It's five thousand. We'll practice numbers later, but for now, just remember the question. Luna: So if I find the book I want, I can say Nimekikuta. I found it. Lucas: That's right. Nimekikuta. Let's break it down. Nime- meaning I have, and -kikuta meaning found it. So, Nimekikuta. Luna: Nimekikuta. That's a good feeling when you finally find the book you're looking for. Lucas: And to thank the shopkeeper, you'd say Asante kwa msaada. Thank you for your help. Luna: Asante kwa msaada. That's lovely. Let's put it all together. I walk in, I ask Duka la vitabu liko wapi? He points me to the shop. I go in, say Nataka kitabu. He shows me one, I ask Kitabu hiki ni bei gani? He says the price. I say Nimekikuta, and then Asante kwa msaada. Lucas: You're a natural. And that's the whole shopping trip. Let's review each one once more. Duka la vitabu liko wapi? Luna: Duka la vitabu liko wapi? Lucas: Nataka kitabu. Luna: Nataka kitabu. Lucas: Kitabu hiki ni bei gani? Luna: Kitabu hiki ni bei gani?
