- 0:43I tried. All right, Yeah.
- 0:45So we're talking about 2020 fives together today.

- 1:34Frame Store. OK, starring Dave Franco as Tim,
- 1:38Allison Brie as Millie, Damon Harriman as Jamie and Mia
- 1:42Morrissey as Kath. Time for a favorite game on the
- 1:45show. Budget or budget?
- 1:48Who's Kath? Her friend.
- 1:51OK, I, you know, like realistically we could have only
- 1:54done three people here, but I, I figured I'd throw her in because
- 1:56she at least is recurring. Yeah, I don't know if we ever
- 2:00know that that's her name, though.
- 2:03Yeah. I don't know if we do.
- 2:04Like if it's ever said, it's said in like passing or
- 2:06something. Does this movie, does it not
- 2:10pass the Bechtel test? I don't think it passes the
- 2:12Bechtel test. Wow.
- 2:15I don't think it does. I don't think it does.
- 2:18Holy shit. It is a It is a movie about a
- 2:22relationship, to be fair. Yeah, just.
- 2:24It it makes it a little bit more difficult because it's like the
- 2:27whole point of this whole thing. But yeah, you're right, That is
- 2:30beard. I never even thought of that.
- 2:31Weird. OK.
- 2:32Well, OK, no, wait, wait, wait. Carol the teacher has the tea
- 2:37that she brought in. She is names.
- 2:39They talk about tea. No, she's in a relationship with
- 2:42Tea so it doesn't count. I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 2:50She just actually bonked me on the ad with her quit board here.
- 2:53Sorry my death perception wasn't great, I meant for it to be a
- 2:55little tap. It was a bomb love tap.
- 2:57I'm sure that came across on the mics here.
- 3:00All right, well, all right. So what is it?
- 3:03Budget or bug tab? Bug tab.
- 3:05OK, yes it is bug tab. I'm surprised I actually had a
- 3:08number. It is 3 and a half million.
- 3:11You know what? Get on them.
- 3:13Yeah, yeah, it's pretty good for them a lot.
- 3:15Of gnarly stuff they had to do. Yeah, yeah.
- 3:17Opening box office was 6.7 million, worldwide gross 32.2
- 3:21million IMDb 6.7. OK, really good.
- 3:25I like that. All right, so I have a theme of
- 3:272025 movies here to compare it to and the theme is
- 3:31relationships are hard. That's, that's fair, yeah.
- 3:35So we're starting off one with the cheat code relationship and
- 3:40that's companion. Oh boy, I and you love you love
- 3:46to throw out a beep boop to me at.
- 3:48Least beep boop is when? No.
- 3:50Everybody talks shit about Beep Boop being a bad pet name.
- 3:52Pet. It's a good pet name.
- 3:54Beep Boop. Come on dude.
- 3:56No, we could name a pet, beep boop.
- 4:00But like a pet name for a person, you're in a relationship
- 4:03with a sentient. Being beep boop.
- 4:07I like it. I thought it was cute.
- 4:08No, I thought it was cute. Sue me.
- 4:11Fucking sue me. No, I know how much money you
- 4:13have. Okay, all right, so Companion
- 4:21came out January 31st, 2025 Budget 10 million Worldwide
- 4:26Gross 36.9 million IMDb 6.9. That is a.
- 4:31That's a fun one if you. Have That was a really good
- 4:33movie yeah it was one of those movies where I was expecting it
- 4:36to be 1 type of story and it ended up being a completely
- 4:39different type of story and I liked it so much better for.
- 4:41That I thought I knew what the twist is going to be, and I was.
- 4:45Like, Oh yeah, definitely recommend it if you've not seen
- 4:48that one. All right, second movie drop.
- 4:52So we did watch this. Remember, it's the one where
- 4:54she's like on her date. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:58She's got to kill him. Yeah, yeah, that right there.
- 5:01That's more of a dating is hard, but also dating is part of
- 5:03relationships so. Yeah, I mean, you have to do the
- 5:06dating piece first. Yeah, and you got to do the
- 5:08dating and sometimes you got to do the killing if you want to
- 5:11make that relationship work, you know?
- 5:13That's how it worked in our marriage.
- 5:14That is yeah, that's the foundation right there.
- 5:17So that came out April 11th, 25 budget of 11,000,000 worldwide
- 5:22gross 28.7 IMDb 6.1. OK, I remember being solid.
- 5:28I don't it never it didn't blow me away.
- 5:30It didn't leave a like much of an impression.
- 5:33Yeah. I don't know if it was that I
- 5:34was distracted while I was watching it or that it was easy
- 5:38to be distracted from, you know what I mean?
- 5:40Like I can't remember fully. Yeah.
- 5:43All right. Then the final movie, Keeper.
- 5:47Oh, Keeper. So Keeper was a movie that we
- 5:51watched last year in the theaters and I think that.
- 5:54Friends and most of us for the opinion that it was not great.
- 5:58It has its fans because. Have its.
- 6:00Fans we the next day we went to one of the watch meetings and
- 6:04there were plenty of people defending it, but our whole
- 6:06group hated it. Not our whole group.
- 6:09Almost our whole group -1 person hated it.
- 6:12Yeah. I just, I don't know, like, you
- 6:15know, Osgood, Oz Perkins. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:19He, he did a swing and a miss for that.
- 6:21One yeah, I generally love what he does.
- 6:23I just felt like there were, I mean, this could be it's whole
- 6:25episode. I just felt like there wasn't
- 6:27enough. Yeah.
- 6:28Back story there. It was OK.
- 6:30It was a weird one. Maybe we will talk about that
- 6:32one one day. Maybe.
- 6:33Yeah, maybe. But that released November 14th.
- 6:3725 budget of 6,000,000 worldwide gross 5.8 IMDb 5.5.
- 6:42I'm surprised it's a 5.5. It seems like it might be a just
- 6:45a divisive movie. Yeah.
- 6:48OK, so time for tag lines. Got no tag lines.
- 6:52Not a single tag line. Dare I I Yeah, it's just how how
- 6:58could you? I mean, even like Allison Brie
- 7:02and Dave Franco also produced this, I believe.
- 7:05So like the the blame falls on them also, if you ask me.
- 7:09Yeah, it's a bit disappointing, but that means we have our work
- 7:12cut out for us at the end of the episode.
- 7:15Or it means like we don't have our work cut out because we've
- 7:18got no bar to rise above. That's true.
- 7:20Yeah, that's true. Yeah.
- 7:22OK, So I have fun facts. So this movie was shot in 21
- 7:27days. They shot it in Melbourne,
- 7:29Australia. Even though this is set in
- 7:31Washington state, they were able to use.
- 7:35I did not know Australia had woods like that.
- 7:39I didn't either, but I I'm not surprised.
- 7:42I would be afraid to shoot anything in the woods in
- 7:46Australia because of the beasts that they have over there, like
- 7:51a kangaroo can come out of the. Both the flora and the fauna are
- 7:55terrifying drop bears. Drop bears, Mega spiders, It
- 8:01might not even be a thing, but your.
- 8:03Voice cracked there. There are tears in his eyes
- 8:06right now. That I would love to visit
- 8:09Australia, but that's just one of those places where like the
- 8:12spider situation over there it's like a I'd have to overcome
- 8:16that. I don't think I could go to an
- 8:19area like they like where they went for this.
- 8:21Yeah. OK so they were able to use sex
- 8:24toys as prop genitalia for that bathroom scene.
- 8:27The reason or the way that they were able to get that is Shanks
- 8:29partner worked at a sex toy company so they were able to
- 8:32provide that from that. And then they also just gave
- 8:34that to the prosthetics team and they were able to just like put
- 8:38little pubes and stuff on there and just make it look a little
- 8:40bit realistic. Yeah.
- 8:41Like don't reinvent the wheel, you already got fake peens that
- 8:45are safe, just use them you know?
- 8:49Yeah, rather than actually getting like, what if there's
- 8:52like, OK, guys, we're going to need you to actually glue
- 8:54yourselves like Speaking of the prosthetics, they also the
- 8:59prosthetic that they use for when they were conjoined, they
- 9:02had to stay like that for several hours, like where their
- 9:04arms were tied together. Yeah.
- 9:06So they had to do like bathroom trips and stuff like that
- 9:09together, which, you know, there, there are, there are a.
- 9:12Little chemistry with your castmate.
- 9:14Well, yeah, they're married, so you know it.
- 9:17It works. Oh, I did not realize that.
- 9:19You know, they were. Yeah.
- 9:20They've been, they've been married since like 2017.
- 9:23Wow. OK.
- 9:24Yeah. So that, I mean, that's why they
- 9:26have great chemistry in this movie to begin with, because
- 9:28they're already, you know, a couple.
- 9:30OK, well, cool, good for. Them.
- 9:34So with Tilly, they they wanted to come across that combination.
- 9:39By the way, Tilly is the name of the, like the combined version
- 9:42of them. Yeah.
- 9:43So they wanted that to be not like some kind of monstrosity
- 9:47like you might be worried about when you watch the movie.
- 9:49They wanted that to be somebody that you would walk by on the
- 9:52street and not recognize. That's, and I think that's one
- 9:56of the really great things about this movie is when you first see
- 9:58like the picture of Jamie when they were separate, you're like,
- 10:03yeah, oh, wow, Both those people kind of look like Jamie.
- 10:07I know like they actually did a great job with that right there
- 10:10and it's really cool how they came up with like making Tilly
- 10:14in this right here. So it's a combination of makeup
- 10:18and compositing with like the videos.
- 10:22So they started off, they took pictures of both of them and
- 10:27they looked at both of their features and did like several
- 10:30composites. And they tried to identify what
- 10:32feature of both of their faces was necessary to be able to like
- 10:37identify both of them in a single person.
- 10:40So it started off with Alison Brie wearing a wig and they used
- 10:45make up to give her the Franco eyebrows, which are massive.
- 10:50They kept Bree's eyes the same, but they gave her brown contacts
- 10:54for Franco's eye collar. And then they shot Dave, who had
- 10:58dots all over his face. And then they used his jaw and
- 11:02his lips for the person. And then by doing this, they
- 11:05just you like combine both footage and were able to just
- 11:10make that one person. So it wasn't, it wasn't even CG,
- 11:13it was just makeup effects and just like compositing with that
- 11:16right there. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:17It's super impressive with how they did that.
- 11:20And then obviously, we should talk about the plagiarism claim
- 11:24that this movie. Yeah.
- 11:25Went through that. That was a big to do surrounding
- 11:28it. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:30So and like, it's it's a pretty compelling thing here.
- 11:34It could be a crazy like a, an incident of crazy coincidence.
- 11:39So what happened? In May 25 Shanks Brief, Franco
- 11:44and Neon were sued in a lawsuit alleging that copyright
- 11:48infringement on the 2023 film Better Half by writer director
- 11:53Patrick Henry Felon. Better Half was pitched to Bree
- 11:57and Franco in August of 2020, who rejected an offer to star
- 12:00because they wanted to produce it themselves and have William
- 12:03Morris Endeavour hire a writer for the material.
- 12:07Shanks denied the allegations, stating that he wrote and
- 12:10registered the first draft of his screenplay to the Writers
- 12:12Guild of America in 2019, received development funding
- 12:15from Screen Australia in 2020, and that his agent pitched
- 12:19Franco his script. Oh, OK, so the timing of all
- 12:22this is pretty crazy. Yeah.
- 12:24Like it sounds like it all kind of happened simultaneously.
- 12:27You know, and we've talked about this plenty of times, how like
- 12:30the the sci-fi original movies, they hear of a premise and they
- 12:33kind of like we're into that really quickly.
- 12:36And there's also just there are instances of people having very
- 12:40similar ideas already out there. The timing of this.
- 12:44So it's it is a little suspect. Yeah.
- 12:47And here I've got the comparisons between the two that
- 12:50the team weighed out. So in the synopsis of Better
- 12:55Half, it was described as a surreal satirical comedy about a
- 12:58man and a woman who have one night stand and wake up to see
- 13:01that they have become literally and physically attached.
- 13:04In both Better Half and together, The main characters
- 13:07struggle to navigate daily life as their physical attachment
- 13:10progresses and they start to control each other's body parts,
- 13:13the complaint alleges. While at first they desperately
- 13:16search for ways to detach their bodies from medical intervention
- 13:18to chainsaws, by the end they resign themselves to their
- 13:21conjoined existence. Among the similarities, the Suit
- 13:25I Just Did is a strikingly similar it has a strikingly
- 13:29similar bathroom sequence where the protagonists become attached
- 13:33at the genitals and attempt to hide their intimate encounter
- 13:35from a minor character waiting just outside.
- 13:39And they also end with the couples pulling out a vinyl copy
- 13:43of the Spice Girls album Spice World as they accept their fate.
- 13:46OK, but if you're going to pick a song for that moment that will
- 13:52resonate with a millennial audience that matches the age of
- 13:55these characters, that was the payoff for that.
- 13:59Like her throwaway line about the Spice Girls.
- 14:02As soon as I saw them rummaging through the record bin at the
- 14:04end, I was like, fuck yeah, fuck it.
- 14:06Because, like, what other song are you going to use in that
- 14:08moment? Jesse's a big Spice Girls fan
- 14:10here too, so yeah, it was. Amazing.
- 14:13Yeah, I mean, like I, I can understand, but it is kind of
- 14:17crazy that all of those things are in both of those movies
- 14:20because I mean, it's it sounds very similar.
- 14:24Yeah, the the existence I'm not going to take the the song is
- 14:29because that's just. I mean, that's like, yeah,
- 14:31that's that's just, that's good sense.
- 14:33Yes, but some of those other scenes seem similar, Yeah.
- 14:38That I mean that right there, I, I think that's probably the most
- 14:41standing for me. Personally, that's the most
- 14:43horrifying scene in the. Home.
- 14:44Exactly. Like on.
- 14:46Everybody, every level, because both men and women can equally
- 14:50just like, be like, oh, it's not that right there.
- 14:52Pain. It is the fact that they are in
- 14:54a children's public restroom that is true.
- 14:57Horrifying. Yeah, and then there's a just
- 14:59like the little feet just outside the stall watching.
- 15:02It's so bad. It's so it's awkward.
- 15:05We'll talk about that in. A minute though.
- 15:08OK, so that's it for my phone. Fax.
- 15:10OK, so let's get into our good, bad, ugly and absurd.
- 15:13Kick it off, Jesse, what you like.
- 15:15I think this was a really good movie about like a bunch of
- 15:20different things that you go through in a relationship, like,
- 15:23you know, that complacency stage, but also the codependency
- 15:28and enmeshment. Like there, there's a lot that
- 15:31we can probably dissect with it. There are there are moments
- 15:36where just about anybody who's ever been in a relationship can
- 15:39be like, I know what that is. I know what that feels like.
- 15:42Like in Yeah, this movie does a really good job of like.
- 15:46It, it gets those moments and like I just, I also relate a lot
- 15:51to Franco's character and like his struggles with depression
- 15:55and how it makes him feel like not worthy in the relationship.
- 16:02Like that. Just it hits really hard.
- 16:05Yeah, I see this movie. It goes for the heavy.
- 16:09Hitting yeah. Like it goes for those because,
- 16:11I mean, there are a lot of moments where I relate to both
- 16:13of them in a lot of ways, you know?
- 16:15And it's like, you know, I, I want this to be clear.
- 16:19In no way are we like calling each other out in this right
- 16:22here. We're not.
- 16:23Doing the uncomfortable dinner scene here Yeah.
- 16:25Neither of us feels trapped or hostage.
- 16:27I'm just like I that like that it's.
- 16:30It's something everybody experiences in a relationship.
- 16:32If you're going to be in a relationship for a long time
- 16:34like these people are, then you go through the ups and downs and
- 16:37yeah, you experience all like a full range of all this shit and
- 16:41like. They've been together about a
- 16:43decade. And you're, you're going to
- 16:45experience those things especially like, because it's
- 16:47not even just like the ups and downs of the relationship.
- 16:49It's the ups and downs of life, too.
- 16:51Like Tim is trying to pursue this dream and it's just not
- 16:56happening for him. And meanwhile, his partner has
- 16:59different dreams and those are happening for her.
- 17:02And it's just it's a lot. And like, he's got people close
- 17:06to him that are succeeding. Yeah.
- 17:08And. That's a That's a hard.
- 17:10Feeling like. You feel, and I can understand
- 17:13why he feels the way he does throughout this whole movie
- 17:16because of that stuff. So dealing with that also, and
- 17:20this is complex too, because I absolutely think that mental
- 17:24health needs to be taken as seriously as physical health,
- 17:27but I also, I really fucking appreciate them giving a male
- 17:34character the type of gaslighting that a woman would
- 17:37normally get in a doctor's office.
- 17:38Yeah. And I'm not saying that like,
- 17:40it's gaslighting to, like, suggest mental health stuff
- 17:42because everything's connected, like we're holistic human
- 17:46beings. But like, him saying, no, I feel
- 17:49like something is physically actually wrong with me.
- 17:51And the doctor's like, here's a Valium because I can't tell you
- 17:55how many times I've gotten prescriptions like that.
- 17:57And I'm like, but I can't breathe.
- 18:00Yeah, this is all true stuff. I've been there with just doing
- 18:04this stuff. Yeah.
- 18:05So it's. To speak to that, they also do
- 18:08the same with like Allison Blackmilly.
- 18:10Like she also doesn't believe him either.
- 18:12Yeah, You know, yeah. And I think that's really
- 18:14interesting too. I, I also, the body horror of it
- 18:19all is fantastic because like those little moments like where
- 18:22he's just like sticking to The Cave and their legs are sticking
- 18:24together, That's gross to begin with.
- 18:26And like we see like their lips getting stuck and you just know,
- 18:31you just know at some point, because sex has been a big part
- 18:34of the plot line, you just know it's going to happen.
- 18:37And the fact that it not only happens, but it happens in one
- 18:40of the most horrifying all around scenes is intense.
- 18:45And then we still have to get them like merged together and
- 18:52like all of the the contortionism and whatnot that
- 18:55they do. Like it's just all it's, it's a
- 18:58really effective horror movie. Yeah, you nailed a lot of my
- 19:02stuff too. And.
- 19:05And obviously the use of two become one.
- 19:06Yes, of course. Gotta be there.
- 19:08Yeah, For me, the like, they do a good job building up the
- 19:12tension between the two. I think it lies like a lot in
- 19:16their relationship drama because like, this movie kind of is a
- 19:19drama too. At the heart of it.
- 19:22It's a horror movie, drama and comedy.
- 19:24It's such a weird amalgamation of all these genres.
- 19:27What? They are primed to have a visit
- 19:31from the strangers. They are Oh my God.
- 19:35Dream Sequel Dream Sequel dream. Sequel together with strangers.
- 19:40That's the Super cut. Yes.
- 19:42They're like, hey, we just we we thought we needed to add a
- 19:45little bit of Franco and Allison Brie in here.
- 19:46So. And there we go.
- 19:49Yeah. I mean, but I I feel like they
- 19:52do a really good job at hitting those emotional beats and they
- 19:55do a really good job of making you uncomfortable in this movie.
- 19:59This movie is just it is discomfort from beginning to
- 20:04end. And it's all different ways too,
- 20:07because like, you'll get like the social discomfort.
- 20:10Oh my God, her proposing to him in front of all it's.
- 20:13So awkward. Are you joking?
- 20:16Yeah. And then it's just silence.
- 20:18And then she just stands. Oh my God, This movie has so
- 20:21many moments like that. It will make you do that from
- 20:24like moments like that. It'll make you do that whenever
- 20:27they have like, they're conjoin and they're trying to RIP each
- 20:30other, like RIP apart from each other moments.
- 20:32It's just this movie makes you uncomfortable.
- 20:35Yeah, and it's also funny. Yeah, it's got like when she's
- 20:39going to saw through their arms and she's like, oh, also by the
- 20:42way, I'm really sorry I didn't believe you before.
- 20:44Obviously, you were right. Yeah, it's just like, I don't
- 20:47know, it hits a lot of beats. It doesn't really.
- 20:50Like, I I'm impressed that it goes so many.
- 20:52It's got a lot of range, it goes so many places, but it navigates
- 20:54it all seamlessly and it all works well with the story.
- 20:59All right. Bad.
- 21:03Bad. There's not a whole lot bad with
- 21:06this. I do think I love baby Franco.
- 21:13I know him more as a horror or a comedy person.
- 21:16Yeah, I think his like emotional monologue.
- 21:20I don't know that he was fully ready to support that.
- 21:23And. Then in a horror drama.
- 21:25So you don't think he did great? I like I felt the emotion of it.
- 21:29I think other people probably could have done it a little.
- 21:34Are you talking about the part where he's in The Cave?
- 21:36Yeah, giving a story. Yeah.
- 21:37He's talking about the rat in his ceiling and then finding his
- 21:40parents. And those are very central to
- 21:43his character and the things like.
- 21:45That's another good too, by the way, that whole thing with his
- 21:48like mom and dad that he saw like that.
- 21:51His trauma is. His trauma is nightmare, Yeah.
- 21:54It's just really, really creepy imagery.
- 21:57Yeah, I just that that monologue, I kind of wish it
- 21:59hadn't gone on as long as it did.
- 22:01Maybe we got like little breaks in between it just something a
- 22:05little bit different because I just think that, and I do think
- 22:09he's a great actor, don't get me wrong.
- 22:11I just think that was a lot of emotion for him to try and have
- 22:15to do in like a single like 5 minute bit and I feel like it
- 22:20just, it didn't, there weren't enough peaks and valleys in it
- 22:23with me. OK, that makes sense.
- 22:24No, I get that. And this is that's a nitpick.
- 22:27Doesn't nitpick because I do think this movie is generally
- 22:29excellent. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:31And that's kind of where I'm going to be with this, too.
- 22:33Like, it is kind of nitpicky, I know.
- 22:34Like, I'm going to, like, cheat and just, like, talk about what
- 22:38I see a lot of people complain about.
- 22:40And one of the things is the whole fact that they stay
- 22:42overnight in The Cave, which I don't know, it doesn't bother me
- 22:47that much because they're trying to like shelter from the storm.
- 22:50I slept on my pillow weird last night and my neck hurts today.
- 22:54I just. And we're their age.
- 22:56Yeah, like I just, I we're not sleeping in caves anytime soon
- 23:01and being OK after that. Yeah, exactly.
- 23:04Yeah. And I mean, and they like take a
- 23:08hard fall and they just have no damage from whatsoever.
- 23:12It is a little bit crazy, man. It's hard.
- 23:17It's hard for me to pick anything bad because I loved
- 23:19this movie so much and it held up again on a rewatch so I can't
- 23:25think of. Anything like we started, I
- 23:27think emotionally, like my brain shut off big parts of this,
- 23:31maybe because I was like, oh fuck, we have to go through this
- 23:33again. Yeah, fuck, we have to go
- 23:35through. This again.
- 23:39Sorry, ugly. The bathroom scene, there's
- 23:41that. There's the way mental health
- 23:47and physical health are treated in this as well.
- 23:51Like I said, I I do think he's definitely got some mental
- 23:54health needs that he needs to take care of.
- 23:55I I generally think that about most people though, you know?
- 23:58Yeah, that doesn't also deny the fact that something physical was
- 24:03going on with him. And I know that there's like a
- 24:05mental and physical link, but it wasn't psychosomatic for him.
- 24:10And as somebody who has had like the hysterical woman diagnosis
- 24:15thrust upon her time and time again, it's frustrating because
- 24:18I'll be the first to admit it, like, yeah, my brain juices,
- 24:22they're fucked up, but it's OK, I'm aware of that.
- 24:25And I'm aware of what's my brain versus what's my body.
- 24:28And especially, like, if you have a familial history with
- 24:31that and you've witnessed it and you've been around it your whole
- 24:34life, that's all the more reason to not have it dismissed.
- 24:38Yeah, 'cause it's like, no, I'm acutely aware.
- 24:41And like, you know, we referenced this earlier, but I
- 24:43was having really bad breathing issues several years ago and my
- 24:47primary care provider at the time was he refused to believe
- 24:52anything was ever physically wrong with me.
- 24:54And Travis is like, yeah, and Travis is like, all you need to
- 24:59go and get your breathing taken care of him.
- 25:00Like, he's not gonna do anything besides giving me more
- 25:03hydroxyzine, like, And I don't fucking want it.
- 25:05And Travis is like, well, I'll come with you.
- 25:07And what do you know? We got a pulmonary function test
- 25:10ordered, and that's how we found out I'm asthmatic.
- 25:13Yeah. And I have two inhalers.
- 25:15Yeah, it's a lot of bullshit. You've been through a lot of
- 25:17that stuff and a lot of people go through that.
- 25:19And it's, it is really unfortunate to see that it's
- 25:21still an ongoing issue. Yeah.
- 25:23And the weird thing is, like, it feels like people or being more
- 25:27cognizant, like, this is like a thing that goes on because I'm
- 25:31seeing it in so many Movies Now. Yeah.
- 25:33But like, it seems like it's still just like, this big
- 25:37problem that isn't really getting addressed.
- 25:40Yeah. I think it's just people being
- 25:41jaded at this point. People would like, they don't
- 25:44really care. They like, this is their job.
- 25:45They prescribe shit all day. They're like fuck it just give
- 25:47them some like ibuprofen like. Some of it, I know those
- 25:51insurance requirements and some of it like we do need to work
- 25:54really hard to destigmatize like seeking care for mental health.
- 25:59But it can't come at the cost of like treating the whole human.
- 26:04It's like almost a reverse looks like, you know, like, oh, we're
- 26:09not going to treat anything physical and we're going to
- 26:11treat everything is mental and it that's not how human beings
- 26:14are. Yeah, OK, well that's that's a
- 26:17good ugly. My my ugly is the opening part
- 26:20with the docs. Oh my God.
- 26:22That's so bad for them. Thing coded too.
- 26:25Yeah, it is, isn't. It I wrote thing things are
- 26:28happening. The things or the thing?
- 26:33No thing things are happening. The thing Things are happening.
- 26:37OK, yeah, I know. OK, I got you.
- 26:39It could be both, but man, I feel bad for those dogs because
- 26:43I feel. Bad for that little girl who
- 26:45clearly followed her dad out to the kennel and saw all that.
- 26:48And she's drawing pictures of it and shit but like.
- 26:51What? What is what happening with
- 26:53Alice or Anna or whatever the fuck her name is?
- 26:55It's in my notes somewhere, but like.
- 26:57That's no. She's late to PE because she's
- 26:59drawing this demon dog on her paper.
- 27:02Come on, Millie, you said you came to the school, so you help
- 27:05work with kids on an individual level.
- 27:07This this child is crying out for help.
- 27:10She wokes up the paper. She's like, oh man, he looks
- 27:12like he needs some ibuprofen. It's just like, go see the
- 27:14doctor, they'll prescribe you. But man, it's the whimpering.
- 27:20Yeah, the dog. I fucking hate that in movies.
- 27:23It just it's an automatic like it gets me.
- 27:26I I hope the dogs like because we never saw their final form.
- 27:31Like I wish we had seen their final form.
- 27:33They got shot, right? Yeah.
- 27:35He just presumably he kills. Like he came in, you know, mid
- 27:38thing thing, Yeah. And.
- 27:40Yeah, he put him out of its out of its misery.
- 27:43When he could have had a really interesting hybrid.
- 27:45He could have, that's the thing. Like he's just like hold on, let
- 27:48it cook. That's what the kid says.
- 27:51Cuz that's what kids say. Like what the fuck does that
- 27:54mean? 67.
- 27:57Oh, OK, let it 6-7. OK, there we go.
- 28:01OK, what's your absurd? That that Tim is a an indie like
- 28:09vaporwave shoe gaze type musician in the Pacific
- 28:13Northwest and has zero tattoos. Oh my God, you were so right.
- 28:18I remember talking about this with our friends after we left
- 28:21the movie, and then we all started arguing about where our
- 28:24tattoos would go if we were in a together situation, which you
- 28:27and I, we're good because the only places you have tattoos are
- 28:31the only places I don't. Yeah, there there's no
- 28:33overlapping. Here, but the couple we were
- 28:34with. Yeah, they.
- 28:36'D have some merging tattoos going on.
- 28:38Yeah, you'd you have to get those covered up or something.
- 28:41Yeah. And I was like, you know, they
- 28:43had, they should have been able to answer that question for us
- 28:46because Tim should have had some tattoos.
- 28:49Yeah, have one person be like that.
- 28:52Yeah, he at least had like the the fuzzy sweater, the fuzzy
- 28:55cardigan. Yeah, this movie, it had a New
- 28:58York 5 to me when they were in the city.
- 28:59That's where I've always thought that they were.
- 29:02Nope, they're Washington PNWP. NW Seattle probably.
- 29:08All right. God am I absurd.
- 29:15I'm going to just go with that fucking dinner.
- 29:18With Jamie. With Jamie, where there's just
- 29:21so much weird energy the entire time.
- 29:24And it the way it just slips into it, like it's innocent
- 29:28turns and phrases and then like the tensions just kind of keep
- 29:31ratcheting up and up and like Millie is a little bit too tipsy
- 29:35and being a little bit too playfully mean.
- 29:39Yeah, and he's. Because I it's like I'm a
- 29:42hostage, he said. Hostages don't cook their own
- 29:44meals and it's just like. What's this the passive
- 29:46aggressive part where like Jamie's about to pour her like a
- 29:49refill and he's like, I've got it and like grabs a bottle and
- 29:51does it himself. It's just holy shit.
- 29:53There's so much just aggression in this dinner scene and it just
- 29:57makes me so uncomfortable. Although the only thing that
- 29:59makes it a little bit better after the fact is that Jamie was
- 30:02probably counting on all that. He probably was.
- 30:05I think he planted those seeds. It was absolutely not a problem
- 30:09for him. There was another thing I meant
- 30:11to bring about in the fun Facts, but they they had to change his
- 30:16whole thing in China because China does not like the same sex
- 30:21marriage stuff. So they they made it to where he
- 30:25was conjoined in like a heterosexual relationship.
- 30:29And Neon got really, really upset about it because they did.
- 30:31They made that change without their permission.
- 30:35Jesus. And then they like they forced
- 30:36China to just like, cease distribution of the film.
- 30:39Good. Yeah.
- 30:41Good. Yeah.
- 30:42So additional fun facts, you know, that's what we've been
- 30:45doing this month. We've just been sprinkling them
- 30:47and throughout the whole episodes.
- 30:49Yeah. OK, OK.
- 30:51Where are we rated? 09 and a.
- 30:53Half OK I'm right there with you man 9 1/2 this movie.
- 30:58I hope the plagiarism thing isn't true because I would
- 31:00really bum bum me up because I love this movie so much.
- 31:03Yeah. Man, I had developments on that
- 31:06too, and there hasn't been anything since like 6 months
- 31:10ago. So yeah, not fun.
- 31:12All right, all right, there we are, nine and a half, 9 1/2.
- 31:15All right, let's do it. So we start off.
- 31:19We're in the woods. Some folks are searching for
- 31:21Simon and Carrie, and they got dogs helping with the search.
- 31:24But the dogs are actually in search of water.
- 31:28We find out later they didn't know where Simon and Carrie were
- 31:31because Simon and Carrie were in that cave.
- 31:34Yeah, they weren't the dogs. Probably felt the bad.
- 31:37The bad vibes and they were like, all right, let's just
- 31:39drink a little water and leave. Were Simon and Kelly the like?
- 31:41The the couple that was missing. No, I know.
- 31:45Like, were they? The big like the fucking
- 31:47conjoined thing that was going after Tim yes OK, so and I'm.
- 31:51Jumping far ahead. Here with this but I just wanted
- 31:54to know yeah the implicate well we'll.
- 31:56Get to that. The implication at the end?
- 31:58Well, yeah, we'll talk about them.
- 31:59But yeah, so the. The search guy who has the dogs,
- 32:03he sees them in the woods and they're just like frozen and
- 32:05staring at each other. Which would be kind of weird if
- 32:08you aren't used to dogs like and just cats too.
- 32:11I was. Telling some friends the other
- 32:13day, like, I walked into the cat room the other day and I saw
- 32:16Cordelia in one litter box and Zoe in another, and they're just
- 32:20staring at each other while they're using the litter box,
- 32:23and it felt like I was interrupting.
- 32:24You were? Yeah, you were.
- 32:26Not meant to be there so whenever I see this in the movie
- 32:29here I'm. Like, this is, this is better,
- 32:31this is an improvement because there's no like, peeing going on
- 32:34at the same time. They're just staring at each
- 32:36other, unfortunately. When they get home, he puts them
- 32:40in a greenhouse. Weird choice.
- 32:43Yeah. And then they hear sounds
- 32:46outside, like the little girl calls to her dad and he goes
- 32:49check on the dogs. It's like sounds of them in
- 32:51pain. Yeah.
- 32:52So yeah, he like walks up there. It's very much like.
- 32:55When they go to the dog kennel in the thing, it is, yeah, it's.
- 33:02A glimpse. It's really fast and it's almost
- 33:04like a jump scare and then it cuts to the title screen, but
- 33:08it's a really effective opening. But then we cut to a going away.
- 33:11Party Tim is looking through records and he finds some photos
- 33:14of him and Millie, and then he finds a photo of him and his
- 33:17parents and he looks sad. And we cut to Maddie talking to
- 33:22Calf because Calf's concerned about their relationship and of
- 33:26moving and being isolated is really the best thing.
- 33:28And Millie's like, he's been through a lot, so, you know,
- 33:32we'll find out explicitly later, but it seems like his parents
- 33:35have died pretty recently. Yeah, that's how it seems to me
- 33:37too. He is.
- 33:40Outside talking to some of his friends, one of whom is Millie's
- 33:42brother. And he, he's, I'm a musician,
- 33:46but he's not with the label anymore.
- 33:48So probably that's part of, you know, his recent trauma hasn't
- 33:53been producing enough to stay with the label.
- 33:56But their band is going on tour. They need a guitarist.
- 33:59He's a guitarist. What do you know?
- 34:01White guy from the Pacific Northwest who has aspirations of
- 34:04being a musician. He plays guitar.
- 34:06What get him in? So he's like, yeah, no, I'll.
- 34:09Do it. It's fine.
- 34:10It's fine, Yeah. He's like, yeah.
- 34:12Because like. He can't drive and there he's
- 34:14like moving way upstairs, so he's like going to have to go
- 34:17down there and they're like there's going to be a lot of
- 34:19practices and stuff too. And he's like, it's fine, fine,
- 34:21I'll make it work, whatever this like.
- 34:24Rewatching this last night made me appreciate how quick
- 34:26everything happens in this movie.
- 34:28This is all like a week. Yeah, yeah.
- 34:32So. He goes inside, there's a
- 34:35goodbye toast from the friends and then the couple themselves.
- 34:39There's somebody in the crowd. And I could not find any
- 34:43verifiable information, but I swear to God, it looks like
- 34:46Dylan Efron. And we have seen that man on our
- 34:47screen so much recently since we've been binging The Traitors.
- 34:52And he was also on the last season of Dancing with the
- 34:54Stars. I firmly believe that Dylan
- 34:56Efron. I could see him and the Franco.
- 34:58I could see the Efron and the Franco's knowing each other.
- 34:59I could say to you, they're like little brother power.
- 35:01Like, hey, we're, we're here because of our brother's
- 35:04success. Dave Franco doesn't have to go
- 35:08on reality. TV shows Dave No Dave Franco.
- 35:11But he made it on his own. But don't tell me he didn't
- 35:15benefit from having his brother in there first.
- 35:17He did. Absolutely he did.
- 35:18But. He doesn't go everywhere and be
- 35:20like, but my Big Brother though, right?
- 35:22Actually, Dave Franco has become the.
- 35:23Superior Franco? Yeah, Dave Franco is the better
- 35:25Franco. By all counts, Yep.
- 35:28OK, anyway. Speech time.
- 35:31Yeah, because this is where Tim, he's like.
- 35:33Giving this big thank you speech to everybody and he doesn't turn
- 35:37around he. Doesn't sense movement behind
- 35:40him much in a way you never seen the sense of movement behind
- 35:44you. You are the same.
- 35:46Way damn it, yours is more in public though mine is at home
- 35:52anyway. Everybody's just kind of like,
- 35:55waiting for him to turn around. Everybody else knew she was
- 35:57gonna do this. He didn't know that she was
- 35:58gonna do this. He turns around and she
- 36:01proposes, and she does a little. Yeah, she.
- 36:04Doesn't even have a ring. She just like, opens up her
- 36:06hands. They're not the ring type.
- 36:07No, that probably. Would have been his 1st tattoo.
- 36:12He used to have a tattoo. Yeah, but he's like.
- 36:15Are you joking? And then she's like, OK, so it's
- 36:18a no. It's so.
- 36:21Drawn out, she's like, no, I'm dead serious.
- 36:24And then he, he's like, yes, he's of course, yeah.
- 36:28He said he he only replies. Whenever she stands up because,
- 36:32like, he's like, OK, I like panic mode.
- 36:33He's got to say something at that point.
- 36:35Yeah. And everybody like, it's just
- 36:38like one clap, like in like a silent room of everybody just
- 36:42staring. I'm not going to lie if I was in
- 36:44that. Crowd and that happened.
- 36:45I probably would have tried to. I would have done a whoo, yeah,
- 36:49try. And lie in the moon.
- 36:49Like try and make this a little bit better.
- 36:51Because if we're all being silent right now, this is making
- 36:53it worse for everybody. Oh boy.
- 36:56And then we cut to them in bed and.
- 36:58Millie asks if he still wants to be with her or if they're just
- 37:02comfortable with each other. And it's like I'd say if we're
- 37:07gonna do it. It's better for us to split now
- 37:09because it'll be much harder later, yeah.
- 37:12That we're. Gonna get a very.
- 37:13Poignant call back to that later on.
- 37:16And he, you know, in his dream, we find out it's a dream in a
- 37:21second. But like at first he's like,
- 37:22everybody knows that you need me more than I need you.
- 37:24And he's like, what? Why would you say that?
- 37:26She goes, you're just going to resent me.
- 37:27He's like, what? And then he looks up and his
- 37:29moms on the other end of the room and he's like, what?
- 37:31And then he wakes up and they're in their new house.
- 37:33The way that this whole thing. Unfolds is really unsettling
- 37:35because it's seamless from them having their conversation
- 37:38becoming a nightmare. And you can also tell with the
- 37:40way it's shot, like the way the lenses are.
- 37:43Yeah, the the color grading. Just shifts kind of gradually
- 37:46and they like and I think that they.
- 37:48Do a really good job of making this feel like a nightmare
- 37:50because it's like weirdly nonsensical dialogue that makes
- 37:53sense. It's like, why would you say
- 37:55that to me? It's like, don't like, don't
- 37:57talk. They're watching us.
- 37:58She's like, why are they here? I don't, I don't like it when
- 38:00they watch us. Yeah, yeah.
- 38:02Oh my God. And the imagery of his mom is
- 38:04just so. And the fact that we find out
- 38:07later that that's what she actually looked like, this isn't
- 38:09some kind of thing that's built up in his head.
- 38:11Yeah. Fucking crazy.
- 38:14So. He wakes up in their new house.
- 38:17They've already moved and Millia's outside.
- 38:19She is moving in some boxes. Mostly she was looking for the
- 38:22coffee maker. I'm gonna be honest, that's been
- 38:25us every single move. Like the coffee stuff is the
- 38:27first thing on pack coffee and whatever modem we have for our
- 38:33Internet. Those are the things that those
- 38:34are things. We're we're Gucci, baby.
- 38:36Yeah, those, that's all we. Need.
- 38:38Yeah. So, you know, they're just, they
- 38:41have a little bit of chit chat and they're moving some stuff
- 38:44and we get Chekhov's power tool and Tim smells something.
- 38:48He's going around saying, like, I can smell it, can't you smell
- 38:50it? You know, I lived out far enough
- 38:53that we would have, you know, mice dye outside of the house
- 38:57and like you can smell that smell.
- 38:59So I know the smell that he's talking about.
- 39:00I do too. I had one die.
- 39:02In my walls in my bedroom one time.
- 39:04Oh my God. Yeah.
- 39:05And like. We've had a bird die out in our
- 39:07yard here, even and I, we've had several.
- 39:10I remember that. Opening and the first time we.
- 39:12Were like, I smell something. You're like, I don't smell it.
- 39:13Like no, I swear to God, there's this.
- 39:15There is a dead animal somewhere nearby, so it he's going crazy
- 39:20trying to find it. And for some reason I wouldn't
- 39:22have thought to do this. I'm going to be paranoid for the
- 39:24rest of my life. But he goes to.
- 39:27Yeah, he goes to. A light fixture.
- 39:28And he pulls it down and he pulls out a king rat.
- 39:31That's what it's called when they're acting.
- 39:32But yeah, Yep. It's where they all get their
- 39:35tails wound together and it gets like stuck with like all kinds
- 39:38of weird stuff and shit. They just kind of can't get it
- 39:41undone. And he tosses it into the.
- 39:43Woods, one of them is still alive.
- 39:45That's upsetting. It is super upsetting.
- 39:48Gross. So we got to Millie at the
- 39:50school. And this unpleasant older woman
- 39:53comes up and says, did you bring that from home?
- 39:56And at first I think she's talking about the mug.
- 39:58That's what I thought, too, yeah.
- 39:59And then she goes or. Did you take that from?
- 40:01My tin. And she's talking about the tin.
- 40:03And she goes, oh, I just thought it was kind of, you know, for
- 40:06everybody. Yeah.
- 40:08Carol definitely has like, her own Creamer labeled in the
- 40:11fridge. She.
- 40:12Yeah. And everybody.
- 40:13Uses it, Yeah, still. Yeah, but enter Jamie, who
- 40:18interferes just like gets in between them and cuts it off.
- 40:21Yeah. He's like, hey, you want any
- 40:22cream or sugar or anything like that just to kind of break the
- 40:25tension there. I love this little.
- 40:27Introduction because he he says he's part of the hiring
- 40:30committee. So they sit down and get to know
- 40:32each other a little bit more. And he was like, so did you move
- 40:36here alone? She goes, no, I'm with my.
- 40:37She goes, she can't say fiance. Yeah.
- 40:42Even if he did eventually say yes, that's not a really no.
- 40:44I wouldn't count it. Yeah.
- 40:45She's like boyfriend sounds immature.
- 40:47Partner. Boy.
- 40:48Partner Tim. My boy.
- 40:51Partner Tim. Yeah.
- 40:53And then he was like, so have you done any exploring?
- 40:55She was partners. I can't believe she went.
- 40:58To that immediately that is awkward.
- 41:01I could see like having. That thought in your head, but
- 41:03that's an inside thought. Yeah, Yeah, that's an inside.
- 41:06Thought I mean even the. Exploring I'm.
- 41:07Thinking like what? Like toys like I'm not thinking
- 41:10like partners. I would just.
- 41:12I would. Out loud.
- 41:13Say, what do you mean? Yeah.
- 41:15Yeah, exactly. And it's just because there's a
- 41:17lot of good hiking. Trails in the area.
- 41:19And she says where she's from. And he's like, oh, I he's like,
- 41:22I know that this sounds super small town, but like, I think I
- 41:24live right down the road from you.
- 41:26I think we're neighbors. So he was like, telling her to.
- 41:28There are some good trails that she should check out with her
- 41:32boy partner Tim. And she gets home.
- 41:37Tim is learning the music for the gig on Thursday.
- 41:40He asked Millie if she'll be able to drop him off at the
- 41:42train station. She says, yeah, no problem.
- 41:45Do you want to come to bed? He goes, I have got to.
- 41:49Yeah, I've got to learn this stuff before the gig.
- 41:52Do you want to do the hike in the morning?
- 41:54Yeah. So the next day they.
- 41:56Go hiking, but the trail end feels really abrupt and they're
- 42:01like, there's this area might be part of the trail, but it looks
- 42:04pretty overgrown. And Tim's like, no, no, no,
- 42:06there's like a marking. There's like a bell with like,
- 42:08yeah, there's bells around. The way and she's like, I just
- 42:11don't know I. Don't want to be like the dumb
- 42:13city folk that get lost in the woods.
- 42:14He's like, it's a great day. I don't want to end the hike.
- 42:17We can always turn around. It's fine.
- 42:19Yeah, let's do this. Immediate cut to just being
- 42:22raining and they're lost and he pulls on his phone.
- 42:26And he's like, all right, that's North.
- 42:30And she's like, okay, what do we?
- 42:32Do with that the whole way that. This goes like okay, what do we
- 42:37do? He's like I don't know, I just
- 42:39thought it would help such. Much realistic dialogue.
- 42:43This is you and me, right? Yes.
- 42:44I could see you being like. Well, that's north and then I'd
- 42:47be like, OK and. I'd be like, I mean, which way
- 42:50are we supposed to? Go This hits so close.
- 42:53To home to me. This is why I really started to
- 42:55remember when I found N That's why I chose it as the opening.
- 42:58Because I know that you reference that quite often, even
- 43:01though you never find north. I wouldn't find North.
- 43:05I would not be able to. So they keep walking around but
- 43:10he falls in a hole and he's hanging on the edge and she
- 43:13reaches in to try and grab him and pull him out but she slips
- 43:15and they both fall into it. And the first thing he says is.
- 43:18Shit, my phone, my demos were on it.
- 43:20And she goes, I'm okay, yeah, bad, bad stuff.
- 43:27They're like old pieces. Of pews and stuff in this cave.
- 43:30It would actually like it, you know, if they hadn't just busted
- 43:34their tailbones and weren't, like, wet and miserable, this
- 43:36would be an interesting cave to explore.
- 43:38Yeah, it looks kind of cool. He's got a lighter and she's
- 43:40like. Why do you have that?
- 43:41And he was like, don't worry about that now let's start a
- 43:44fire. And she goes, you don't know how
- 43:45to start a fire. And then they're both really
- 43:47thirsty. They only have a little bit of
- 43:49water left and he's like, well, I'm gonna go check this.
- 43:52Well, and she was like, that seems like a bad idea.
- 43:54He goes, no, it's fine. Yeah, he just drinks from.
- 43:56It she gets the queen water. Yep.
- 43:59And I like this scene where he's building the fire and he's like,
- 44:02she's like, what are you doing? Like, yeah, you remember like
- 44:04man versus wild when they did that?
- 44:05Like you remember when we watched it?
- 44:07Like yeah, but you fucking don't.
- 44:10And then she's like, so about that lighter.
- 44:12And he's like, loosen. And she goes, she pulls out a
- 44:14cigarette and goes, when did you start?
- 44:16And she's like, right before the movie because me too.
- 44:18And she's like, all right, tomorrow we both quit again.
- 44:21Yeah. I like this moment.
- 44:22This is. Cool where we have a little bit
- 44:23of them being good with each other and then we get.
- 44:27Franco's childhood and adulthood trauma dump.
- 44:29Oh my God, he just goes. Hard in it because he's talking
- 44:33about that smell and apparently his dad had a whole incident
- 44:37like that when he was a kid where there was like something
- 44:39dead in the walls or whatever it was.
- 44:41Yeah, it was above his. Light.
- 44:42And so basically, like it was cooking the smell of the rat
- 44:46every day, but because that was his room, like he wasn't
- 44:48noticing it. Yeah, he was just like just
- 44:51cooking every day and just breathing it in.
- 44:53And then he said like the. Same thing basically happened to
- 44:56his mom because she woke up 1 morning his dad was dead and
- 45:00something in her brain just snapped and she couldn't process
- 45:03it. And so she was still getting up
- 45:04and going to bed and going about her life with him there, dead in
- 45:07the bed and getting, you know, deader and deader by the day.
- 45:10And it's upsetting. He came home and.
- 45:14He it took all of his power to be able to fight through the
- 45:17smell. And he walked into the room.
- 45:19He just saw her there smiling, like we've seen in these
- 45:21nightmares. Like what we are seeing in that
- 45:23nightmare is what he saw when he walked into the room that day.
- 45:26Yeah, which is fucking terrifying.
- 45:28And yeah, that night he's dreaming.
- 45:32That The Cave is breathing with him.
- 45:34And yeah, it almost felt like a. Trip from like Midsummer, yeah,
- 45:38so some of the stuff. With this movie, especially the
- 45:40music and like the themes with the relationship and everything,
- 45:44like Very Midsummer asked, I just think that's a thing of.
- 45:47This decade, that's what the 2020 20s are, is relationship
- 45:52horror. They wake up.
- 45:54Millie's phone has fallen into a small puddle as well.
- 45:58Their legs are stuck together and Tim says probably mildew.
- 46:05What? That's a.
- 46:07Dumb thing. To say but also really gross
- 46:09yeah, so they. They pull them apart.
- 46:11It's it's pretty hard, but they're OK.
- 46:13They climb out and they make it back home.
- 46:15Yep. And she has showered, she says
- 46:19she's going to run to the store. They they don't have food.
- 46:22And he's like, well, we used to have rice and she goes, well,
- 46:24can't have both of our phones needing to be replaced right
- 46:27now. She's hoping the rice works
- 46:29miracles with hers. And she asked him for a shoulder
- 46:33massage just for a couple minutes.
- 46:34And then he like, kind of goes into a trance and is just, he's
- 46:39like really pulling at her. He's like going really, really.
- 46:42Hard. He's putting his fingers well
- 46:45within her, like, muscles there. Yeah.
- 46:47And she's like, got like. Handfuls of her skin and it's
- 46:50not like Alison Brie has a ton of excess skin, right?
- 46:53Yeah, it's it's upset and she's like, you don't look good.
- 46:57How about you stay here while I run to town and maybe also take
- 47:00a shower and she gets into the car and like we see these
- 47:06parallel movements and I read something online because the way
- 47:09that she was turning the car ignition, they had to make the
- 47:11shower knob go the same way. So it was kind of like installed
- 47:14weird. No, I, I saw I.
- 47:16Was reading about this too. They had to mirror her shot
- 47:19because if you look at the shot of her turning the ignition the
- 47:21on thing is like flipped. It says no instead.
- 47:24OK, OK. Yeah.
- 47:27But yeah, the way that they did that was really cool because
- 47:29they they got it pretty accurate because anytime she would make a
- 47:32movement, he makes a movement in the shower, mimicking it.
- 47:35Yeah. And at one point he is like.
- 47:37Just moving so hard into the shower wall he like busts a tile
- 47:40with his head. The movement when they get like.
- 47:42This in this movie reminds me so much of PT the the ghost
- 47:47character that follows you and how it's all twitchy and stuff.
- 47:50Yeah, it's just like that. And he can't handle being away
- 47:54from her. He.
- 47:57Goes to a Doctor Who just like doesn't want to hear any of it
- 48:01he's like, here take this he goes Valium he goes well, we
- 48:04call it diazepam now it's also weird how this doctor's like oh
- 48:08by. The way you hear about the
- 48:09missing people in the woods, like what?
- 48:11It's dude, we're not even. Talking about that right now,
- 48:14the. Doctor part of this cult too.
- 48:15Maybe he, maybe I. Think he probably is.
- 48:19So Tim looks up Carrie and Simon, that's the missing couple
- 48:24and he Millie comes in and he explains, you know the whole
- 48:30back story about it. And then he jokes about like
- 48:33having a very basic Last Post on social media when you guys cuz
- 48:37he's stalking their. Her Facebook.
- 48:39The person's Facebook, Yeah. Carrie's.
- 48:41Yeah. And.
- 48:42I can't remember. What it is, but it was something
- 48:44really basic nature and. Life or whatever.
- 48:48And then Millie's like, well, what would your Last Post be if
- 48:53you died tonight? And pulls it up.
- 48:55And it's something that Millie had tagged him in.
- 48:57That said, we took the pledge. Yeah.
- 49:00And. That's a perfect one.
- 49:02Yeah, I love her. Response to this because like I
- 49:04make these cheesy posts too and she's like listen it's just
- 49:07something to update our family. It makes my mom happy and that's
- 49:10pretty much how I look at it. I related to it when just like
- 49:13you love. It and I do love it when you do
- 49:14that stuff too because yeah, I keep your family updated on
- 49:17your. Life you do?
- 49:18Yeah. By making those tags and posts.
- 49:21You do, yeah. So Jamie shows up and he's just,
- 49:28you know, wanting to say hi. He has brought some wine, and
- 49:31they're all eating and drinking. And they discuss the hike
- 49:35mishap. And they talk about how it looks
- 49:36like there's like, pieces of an old Chapel in there.
- 49:39He goes, oh, yeah, I know there used to be a church out there.
- 49:42It collapsed. The congregation's mostly gone.
- 49:44And I'm like, what happened? He goes mass suicide.
- 49:46And they're like, he's like, no, I don't.
- 49:48I don't know, actually. And then he says that the food's
- 49:52really good. And Millie is like, oh, it's all
- 49:56Tim. He does all the cooking.
- 49:58He's the reason I don't cook. And he's like, what?
- 50:00You wouldn't learn to cook if I didn't cook for you because,
- 50:02well, you're I'm the reason you don't drive.
- 50:04And this is where what we were talking about, where it starts
- 50:07getting like really tense because they're trying to have
- 50:10it as a normal conversation, but really it's a fight in front of
- 50:13a third party. It's start.
- 50:15It's like masked. By I like playful banter at
- 50:17first but then it just gets too real and then it's like a
- 50:20straight up fight in front of Jamie.
- 50:22It becomes so fucking awkward. And so Jamie leaves and.
- 50:26Tim accuses him of being a little bit flirty with her and
- 50:29maybe her being a little bit flirty back, but it's all this
- 50:32is actual joking. And then they kiss and their
- 50:35lips get sucked together and that ruins the mood.
- 50:38Yeah, yeah, she. Thinks that he's like biting her
- 50:40or something and then in bed that.
- 50:43Night Millie wakes up cuz she's like, you're on my hair,
- 50:46relatable. You're on my hair, please get
- 50:48off my hair. And then she turns on the light
- 50:50and he's like swallowing a huge chunk of her hair.
- 50:55Yeah, it's like this. Is like one of the things, like,
- 50:57is this another one of the nightmares?
- 50:58But no, like this time he's actually just got all that hair
- 51:01in his mouth and he's struggling to pull it out.
- 51:04Honestly, if I woke up one day. And Cordelia was trying to eat
- 51:08my hair. I wouldn't be.
- 51:09Shocked. I wouldn't be shocked about
- 51:11that. Either she's going through a
- 51:12big. Hair thing right now, yeah,
- 51:14she's trying to eat my hair, my white.
- 51:15Hairs right? Yeah.
- 51:16She don't like it. She doesn't.
- 51:19Yeah, so they're. Just yeah, it's the next
- 51:23morning. He's it's time for him to go to
- 51:26the town. She's like you, seems sick.
- 51:28I. Don't think you should go.
- 51:30And he's like, please, I just need to go.
- 51:31Please just drop me off. And so they get to the train
- 51:34station, and she's like, you know, good luck.
- 51:37I'd drive you all the way if I could.
- 51:39And he's just kind of being a little standoffish.
- 51:42And she's like, all right, well, feel free to stay the night over
- 51:45there. And he's like, what?
- 51:46Don't you want me to come home? And she goes, no, that's not
- 51:48what I'm saying. I'm just, you know, catch up
- 51:50with everybody. Yeah, that might help.
- 51:52Yeah, help. You feel better.
- 51:53So you ate my hair last night. I ate.
- 51:55And I need a break too. Like, she's like, we just maybe
- 51:58some distance would be good for us right now.
- 52:00Yeah. So she leaves him and he's just
- 52:03kind of like, really panics. Yeah.
- 52:05And I think they. Do a real good job with these
- 52:08moments, too, because he's just sitting there at the train
- 52:10station and I feel like I can feel his sickness whenever he is
- 52:15sitting like that. And you can tell, like, the way
- 52:17that the screen is warping and stuff.
- 52:19Like, you can tell, oh, this isn't like, almost like an
- 52:21anxiety attack, but also like, you could tell Stomach's
- 52:25probably getting real fucky right now, too.
- 52:27Yeah. And.
- 52:29You know, it's just we we stop. As the train pulls up in front
- 52:32of him, Millie sends her class to PE.
- 52:35Anna. That's her name.
- 52:37There it is. OK.
- 52:38She's the one drawing the picture of the Thing dog.
- 52:41And Millie's horrified, but not horrified enough because she
- 52:46gets on a FaceTime with Kath. Yeah.
- 52:49Yeah. And, like, talking about all the
- 52:51stuff with Tim there. And she's like, well, look, I'll
- 52:53come up there if you need me to. And she's like, no, no.
- 52:55She's like, it's OK. My parents are coming up on
- 52:57time. Sunday, like, he's a nice
- 52:58person. He.
- 52:59You know, on our first date, I told him that I love Spice
- 53:02Girls, and I didn't realize he was this music sob.
- 53:04And then on our second date, he'd bought me Spice on vinyl.
- 53:07Yeah. And as they're having this whole
- 53:10conversation, she looks up and he's in the playground.
- 53:12Yeah. And he looks like the type of.
- 53:14Person that you don't want to see on an elementary school
- 53:15playground, he's going to go. On a list if he like, gets
- 53:20caught up there. And so she goes.
- 53:22Down there. And she quickly, like, ushers
- 53:24him into the bathroom and he's like, I need you.
- 53:27And they haven't had sex for a while and Billy's been, like,
- 53:29begging for it. And so they do it right there.
- 53:33And like, we have the sounds muted, but it's pretty clear
- 53:36they're being loud. Yeah.
- 53:38I mean, just like a lot of. Moaning and stuff like that and
- 53:41yeah, it's like a yeah. And then everything about that,
- 53:45I'm just like. It's it's horrifying.
- 53:47This doesn't need to be happening in a children's
- 53:49bathroom. It's so bad.
- 53:51Yeah, well, I don't. Even think they realize it was a
- 53:53children's bathroom. I think they just went.
- 53:55Millie absolutely knows it's a. Children's bathroom.
- 53:57She works at the school. Yeah.
- 53:58Maybe. Yeah.
- 53:59What's? Her early 2nd day, like you know
- 54:02that I think she knows. And she's, you know, she
- 54:06realizes that when those feet run away, that another adult's
- 54:09gonna be coming in at some point.
- 54:10That's the feet of. Somebody saying I'm telling and
- 54:13she like this is. Millie's thing, like, she
- 54:15doesn't have fear to do things. She's like, all right, this the
- 54:18thing that needs to be done, RIP off the Band-Aid.
- 54:20I am not a RIP off the Band-Aid person.
- 54:23Yeah, like. 'Cause he's trying to like pull
- 54:26out, can't pull out. And she just pushes, She puts
- 54:29her hands over, she goes. I'm so sorry.
- 54:32Yeah, and it. Hurts both of.
- 54:34Them I don't. Know what he.
- 54:38Felt like but I have a pretty good idea of what she felt like
- 54:42yeah. So it.
- 54:44It's bad. And at that point, Jamie comes
- 54:47in with the small child that has just had a terrible day.
- 54:51Yeah, Tim puts his feet up on the.
- 54:53Commode so they can't see his feet there.
- 54:55Yeah. And And she comes out.
- 54:57She doesn't really know what to say because she's certain that
- 55:00she is going to be fired and put on a sex registration list.
- 55:06Yeah, but. Just because of the nature of
- 55:08what happened there, Jamie gets the idea that it's her period
- 55:12that started suddenly or something instead bleeding and.
- 55:16He's like, oh, just, you know, next time just make sure that
- 55:19you you get to the staff member. Yeah, but as he's walking.
- 55:21Away he still looks, and he sees Tim's feet come down from the
- 55:25commode real quick, and Millie sees that he saw so, so they
- 55:31get. Back to the house and she is
- 55:33mad. She's like, I've given you all
- 55:36all the space to take all of these risks and then not pay
- 55:39off. I've let you follow your dreams.
- 55:40I want a chance to follow my dreams.
- 55:42And like this could have just ruined everything.
- 55:46And she's like, I'm going to go to Jamies house and clean up
- 55:48your mess. And he's like what am I supposed
- 55:50to do? And she's like I don't care.
- 55:53She is mad and over him at this point.
- 55:56She goes hard with this A. Little bit too hard because
- 55:58she's like, I'm starting to feel like your mom.
- 56:00He's like, what does that mean? He's like like I'm sitting next
- 56:03to something that's already dead like Oh my God, he just revealed
- 56:07that to you. He.
- 56:07Just revealed that trauma to you.
- 56:09That's that's a low blow, yeah. So.
- 56:12She walks over. To Jamie's and he invites her
- 56:15in. She apologizes and he plays
- 56:17dumb. Yeah, he's like, it's fine,
- 56:18like. I I get it.
- 56:20It's, you know, women stuff, it's fine.
- 56:23And then he's like, you seem upset.
- 56:24What's wrong? And she's like, oh, I just had a
- 56:26fight. He was here, let me, let me get
- 56:27you some water. And this is sneaky, sneaky
- 56:30because she didn't drink the water in The Cave.
- 56:33So this is he has given her that water.
- 56:36It's never explicitly said, but that's meant to be the
- 56:39implication. Yeah for sure.
- 56:40Cuz it all starts for her. After this moment here, yes.
- 56:43And she? Is looking around, she sees a
- 56:45picture of a couple and it really just looks like you took
- 56:48Jamie and split him in half into two different men.
- 56:51Yeah, yeah. And.
- 56:53So you know. They just kind of, they kind of
- 56:55talk about like togetherness and harmony versus complacency.
- 57:00And this is where I'm also noticing for the first time that
- 57:03Jamie's wearing two wedding rings.
- 57:05Oh my God, Adam. Made that connection, yeah and
- 57:09so. She asks about his partner and
- 57:11he was like, she is assuming that he's dead, you know,
- 57:16because it's just Jamie in the house.
- 57:18And he was like, you know, we, we did split up at one point and
- 57:21I realized that freedom wasn't what I thought it was going to
- 57:25be. I was me because of him.
- 57:27And he was like, I missed everything, even like our
- 57:30fights. And then he's like, you know
- 57:33what? I haven't had an excuse to watch
- 57:34my wedding tape in a while. And then that's when Melisi's
- 57:38Tim outside and she has to, like, run out, which is probably
- 57:41good because, you know, we don't get the cult reveal stuff just
- 57:44yet. Yeah, true.
- 57:45Yeah. But.
- 57:45I also just like that I, I like these shots of Tim just being
- 57:49out there kind of creeping in front of yards of people's
- 57:52places all the time. You're such a creep.
- 57:53It's so. Funny, yeah.
- 57:57So Tim is. Back at the house that night and
- 57:59he's looking at pissed messages on his computer from the from
- 58:04the band members. And then he looks at the geotag
- 58:08of Carrie and Simon's photo and realizes that it's right near
- 58:12their house. And if you pay attention, he's
- 58:14got a tab open. And the other tab is a Google
- 58:17search of cave water sickness. Oh, really?
- 58:20Yeah. Oh, I hadn't noticed that
- 58:22before. Interesting.
- 58:23Good catch, yeah? So he realizes that like,
- 58:27something's in that cave, it's going to it's going to get us
- 58:32like, answers. We got to go figure this out.
- 58:34Except he doesn't have a chance to do anything because they lose
- 58:36Internet. And then Millie slams on the
- 58:39door to this study, and he opens it up and it's like she's
- 58:42seizing. And he slaps her wake.
- 58:45And we cut to them sitting at the kitchen table.
- 58:47And she doesn't buy his theory. She's like, you should probably
- 58:50sleep in the spare room. He's like, good idea.
- 58:52We need to get as much distance between us as possible.
- 58:55I'll go to The Cave first thing in the morning.
- 58:57She goes, listen, my parents are coming on Sunday.
- 58:59I don't think you should be here.
- 59:00He's also like, spitballing. Theories here and he's he says
- 59:03that it takes over when the mind is weak so basically whenever
- 59:07they fall asleep or they're tired, that's when the whole
- 59:10thing kicks in at its hardest it's funny how right he is
- 59:13about. Everything.
- 59:14He's so well, he's he's. Experiencing it.
- 59:16Also another note, when he was looking at the pictures he
- 59:19noticed that the missing couple had that picture on their
- 59:22Facebook. It had the bell with the marking
- 59:24on it too, so they were in that area for sure.
- 59:26Yep, and he was. Like, yeah, the first thing in
- 59:29the morning, I had to go check out The Cave.
- 59:30And she was like, I I don't want you here.
- 59:34I don't, I don't want you. Yeah.
- 59:37And then we got one of those across the hall.
- 59:40I was like, I love you. And she says I know.
- 59:42No, she doesn't even say she. Doesn't even carry Fisher in.
- 59:44She just goes, OK, Yeah, yeah. Oh my.
- 59:46God, harsh. All right, so suddenly awake in
- 59:50the middle of the hall, he's being just.
- 59:53He's just dragging through the hall closer to her door, and
- 59:56he's trying to stop himself and Allison Brie gets to.
- 59:59Do a lot of contortionism in this movie.
- 1:00:01I'm sure a lot of her stuff is shot in reverse.
- 1:00:04Probably. Yeah.
- 1:00:05It's. Pretty impressive the how she's
- 1:00:07able to contort her body during this scene because she starts
- 1:00:10off kind of doing the The Exorcist thing upside down at
- 1:00:13the door and yeah, she's flipping through.
- 1:00:16She's finding out first in what the fuck is happening and he's
- 1:00:19telling her, look, we got to take the muscle relaxants
- 1:00:22because that's the only way. Yeah, because their their hands.
- 1:00:24Join in the hall and they just kind of go into each other and.
- 1:00:29Then he was like. The meds, the muscle relaxers,
- 1:00:32they'll get us and she goes the Valium, he goes, it's called
- 1:00:34diazepam now. And so they get to the drawer,
- 1:00:39she pulls it out and she's like fucking child lock.
- 1:00:41He's like, no, here, we'll do this together.
- 1:00:43They're working together. They're team working out.
- 1:00:45And they like a bunch of them pour out and she's like, how
- 1:00:47many should we take? Because just just take a ball.
- 1:00:50Like it'll get into our system faster if we snort and they just
- 1:00:52start snorting. Them up too.
- 1:00:54I can't believe they did an overdose here.
- 1:00:56This I think it's a don't move to like keep them that way you
- 1:00:59can like prolong. This feels like a vignette in.
- 1:01:02Requiem for a dream? Yeah, I'm surprised we didn't
- 1:01:04get it like the. Eyes die waiting, Yeah, and.
- 1:01:08They start to pass out and we come to Tim comes to, he's being
- 1:01:13taped to a chair and it's a go guide.
- 1:01:16I'm sorry, I thought I was going to have.
- 1:01:17More time. Yeah.
- 1:01:18He's like, what? And she goes listen, listen.
- 1:01:20The muscle relaxers mostly worked.
- 1:01:22We're still a little bit attached.
- 1:01:24We got to take care of this before, you know, they start
- 1:01:27working together again. And he was like, you're
- 1:01:30right-handed, which means she's going to be doing this power
- 1:01:33assault with the left hand. And she's like, listen, drink
- 1:01:35the whiskey for pain. And he starts to drink it.
- 1:01:38And she goes, oh, Nope, no more whiskey for you.
- 1:01:40I'm feeling that too. And he's like, cool, So now
- 1:01:43you're working with your left hand and you're drunk.
- 1:01:45Yep. And she's like, listen, it'll be
- 1:01:47fine. It'll be we've got a first hand
- 1:01:48kit, all saw us apart and then we'll we'll get bandaged up
- 1:01:52right away and she goes also really sorry I didn't believe
- 1:01:55you before. Clearly you were correct about
- 1:01:57all of this. Yeah, and he's against this.
- 1:01:58Until he sees that their arms are starting to wiggle a little
- 1:02:02bit more. So the medicine is wearing off.
- 1:02:04And if they don't do this now, they're going to get further
- 1:02:06together. And then we cut to them.
- 1:02:09Sitting on all the ends of the kitchen floor, bandaged up.
- 1:02:11And she's like, all right, so we're going to go to the
- 1:02:14hospital. And he goes, no, no, no, we need
- 1:02:15to go check The Cave. We need answers.
- 1:02:17And she's like, we've got to go to the hospital.
- 1:02:21I just sawed our arms apart. You need to sit in the trunk.
- 1:02:24Stay as far away from me as possible.
- 1:02:26Oh, fuck. I don't have my keys.
- 1:02:27She's like, I'm going to go to Jamie's house to get my keys.
- 1:02:30Don't do anything stupid. And he goes, I won't, I won't.
- 1:02:33Immediately. He runs for rope in a
- 1:02:34flashlight. Yep.
- 1:02:36And. So.
- 1:02:39We'll we'll talk about Millie and Jamie and then we'll talk
- 1:02:41about Tim in The Cave. OK, so Millie gets over to
- 1:02:45Jamie's house. He's not answering the door, but
- 1:02:46we see he's got a doorbell. And it's not like a Ding Dong
- 1:02:49doorbell. It's a ring, a Ding Ding
- 1:02:50doorbell, a ring a Ding Ding, if you will.
- 1:02:54But it's one of those bells that we've seen on the trails.
- 1:02:58Mark of the Colt. She comes into the house, she's
- 1:03:01looking around. No, Jamie, she's trying to find
- 1:03:04the key is she hears a video playing in another room and she
- 1:03:08walks in and it's a wedding video of I, I don't know their
- 1:03:12individual names, but it's the wedding video of Jamie.
- 1:03:15And we see, you know, them get married and it's great and
- 1:03:18they're happy. But then we see them all like
- 1:03:20the whole church when it was still above ground.
- 1:03:24They've got an opening down into The Cave with the well.
- 1:03:26They all go in there. They get like baptized in the
- 1:03:29well. And then the priest has them cut
- 1:03:32each other's wrists with their wedding bands and lay next to
- 1:03:37each other. And then Jamie is behind her,
- 1:03:39like, he just, like, pops up out of the shadows.
- 1:03:41That was a really cool moment there.
- 1:03:42Cuz he's out of like, he just pops up there out of focus.
- 1:03:46Yeah. And it's really creepy.
- 1:03:49And he's in like a rope. He's in his cult robe now.
- 1:03:51Yeah, well. He's like, you know, he might be
- 1:03:54the only member of the congregation left him and maybe
- 1:03:56the doctor. Well, I was reading something
- 1:03:58online. Speculating that he is like a
- 1:04:01combination of several people at this point.
- 1:04:04Interesting. Yeah.
- 1:04:05Because apparently. Like he says.
- 1:04:06Like I'm the neighborhood. Oh no, I just.
- 1:04:09Read that like as like they're out in a rural area.
- 1:04:12And that's what I thought too. Like a wink and.
- 1:04:14A nod to him. Being more than one person.
- 1:04:16That's what I thought too, but. You know, that's just the
- 1:04:18speculation I've seen online from some people.
- 1:04:22He. He's just saying, you know, this
- 1:04:23is the hardest part. This is where you have to push
- 1:04:26through. And trust me, you're already at
- 1:04:28this point. The alternative is pretty bad.
- 1:04:31And he uses his rings to cut her the same way.
- 1:04:34Yeah, he just grabs. Her forearm and just he says
- 1:04:39it's easier. If you have a wound, yeah.
- 1:04:42And also you'll feel. Great from this right here like
- 1:04:44you're going to be in such a good shape after that and she.
- 1:04:50She slaps him and he, like, kind of slips apart a little bit.
- 1:04:55I assume he merges back together at some point.
- 1:04:57I it's weird. Yeah.
- 1:04:58We we don't ever get clarification on Jamie's ending,
- 1:05:02but we cut down to Tim. Tim is like exploring more of
- 1:05:06these Chapel pieces because we're getting this intercut with
- 1:05:09like, Jamie explaining things too.
- 1:05:10Yeah, he sees a mural from. The church that she is also
- 1:05:13seeing in the video that's being played.
- 1:05:15Yeah, it's it's. You know, going back to, like,
- 1:05:18the story by Plato about, you know, human beings used to have
- 1:05:24four legs and four arms, and Zeus was jealous, so he cut them
- 1:05:27in half. And so you have to spend your
- 1:05:29life searching for your better half.
- 1:05:30And that's what the mural is depicting.
- 1:05:33And he is getting stuck to The Cave because this cave is sticky
- 1:05:37everywhere and terrible. And then a creature comes out
- 1:05:41and it is Carrie and Simon. And this is what the alternative
- 1:05:45is because it appears as though Carrie has killed Simon.
- 1:05:49Yeah. And mid transformation.
- 1:05:51Mid. Transformation, so we.
- 1:05:52Don't know the circumstances, we don't know if it's an accident,
- 1:05:54we don't know if it was like her trying to get him to like we
- 1:05:57don't know. All we know is that if one of
- 1:06:00you is dead and one of you is alive, the the merge stops and
- 1:06:04you're miserable and you beg from help from cave dwelling
- 1:06:07strangers. I feel so bad for.
- 1:06:09Her, I'm guessing at this point, because she's screaming for help
- 1:06:12and what Tim does is cut off her fingers and run.
- 1:06:15So not only is she in that shape, but she now has no
- 1:06:18fingers and she's in that shape. Yeah.
- 1:06:21And. In a lot of.
- 1:06:22Pain. A lot more pain, probably.
- 1:06:25Yeah. Feel really bad for her.
- 1:06:27Just like he could have just killed her.
- 1:06:28But I I would have done the same.
- 1:06:29I would have freaked the fuck out and ran out of there.
- 1:06:32So Millie and Tim run back. Back.
- 1:06:34Run both run back to the house, and they both have answers.
- 1:06:37They've both figured out what's going on, and Tim's like, I know
- 1:06:40what we need to do. I should have done this a long
- 1:06:42time ago. And he proposes to Millie.
- 1:06:44That's great. I like her.
- 1:06:47Reaction. She's like, you got to be
- 1:06:49shitting me and. Then he stands up and he says,
- 1:06:52look away. And she goes, what?
- 1:06:53And he goes, I don't want you to see this because he's going to
- 1:06:55kill himself because he said this is the only way.
- 1:06:57Like, you know, we have to, one of us has to die before we start
- 1:07:01merging again. And she goes, you don't need to
- 1:07:02do that. And then we see like, she's
- 1:07:04bleeding really badly from that cut on her forearm and she
- 1:07:07collapses and she collapses. And he's.
- 1:07:09Saying no, no, no, please stay with me, please stay with me.
- 1:07:13Cut 2 him carrying her into the house.
- 1:07:16She's a lot less pale now. And she's like, what, how, why,
- 1:07:20where, when, who? And he's like, very good.
- 1:07:23Those are the five WS of journalism.
- 1:07:26And also my hand is inside of your arm.
- 1:07:29Yeah, that's the only way to stop the bleeding and.
- 1:07:31Give her the blood that she needed and she's like, do you?
- 1:07:34Do we want to do this? And she's like, yeah.
- 1:07:36And he goes right first. I always pictured this would be
- 1:07:39our first dance song, and I think that's a really sweet
- 1:07:42little throwaway line. But the fact that he's thought
- 1:07:45about stuff like that. Yeah, it just goes to show it
- 1:07:49was like they were in like a complicated situation.
- 1:07:52Yeah. And I think, you know, they care
- 1:07:54for each other in this moment and they're they're accepting
- 1:07:56that, hey, we're going to be together now.
- 1:07:58This is our way of being together.
- 1:07:59And we get a Really. Horrifying transformation
- 1:08:02sequence of them just merging into each other and their body
- 1:08:06parts writhing inside of each other.
- 1:08:07I like that they. Had the thought to take their
- 1:08:10quotes off because I wonder. Actually I'm curious what would
- 1:08:13that have been like if they tried to merge the quotes to I?
- 1:08:17Assume that the magic finds its way around it.
- 1:08:20Yeah, probably. Millie's.
- 1:08:23Parents show up for lunch, they ring a Ding Ding bell because
- 1:08:27they now have the bell as well, and Tilly opens up the door.
- 1:08:34I say, hey guys, I. Wanted the rest of this.
- 1:08:37Lunch. I wanted to know how do you
- 1:08:39explain that? Like why I yeah, I'm, I'm very
- 1:08:44curious how that goes, Charlie. We adopted our.
- 1:08:46Niece. And that's how the movie ends.
- 1:08:50Yep. That's how it ends.
- 1:08:52Yep, still a 9 1/2. I think this is an excellent
- 1:08:55movie. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:08:55It's still, it's still up. There for me too.
- 1:08:58It just it sets out and does what it what it tries to do so
- 1:09:02well now, Talia. I was very into this movie.
- 1:09:07Yeah, at the beginning, cuz the dogs were barking, She was
- 1:09:09barking back. It was a good time for her.
- 1:09:11Yeah. However, then the dogs die, so
- 1:09:13that's an automatic point deduction.
- 1:09:17She left with 30 seconds left in the movie.
- 1:09:21She was like, I'm done with this bullshit, you guys, and we're
- 1:09:25like, no, Talia, you're going to miss Tilly.
- 1:09:27And she's like, put me on the bed, peasants.
- 1:09:31And we did. So she never actually saw the
- 1:09:33ending. She was fucking over it.
- 1:09:34She was like, first the dogs and now that are we going to shoot
- 1:09:36them too? Probably.
- 1:09:38Is that what's going to happen? I can't.
- 1:09:39I can't watch this so. I think Talia will give this a.
- 1:09:42Seven, I think. I think it just pissed her off.
- 1:09:44Yeah. Who's always Ultimate Warrior?
- 1:09:50I think it's. The mean teacher, Carol.
- 1:09:55Yeah. I was like, that's.
- 1:09:56Mine it's. Mine I could see.
- 1:09:58That Cordelia watched the entire movie on my legs.
- 1:10:03She she had a hoot. Yeah, she had.
- 1:10:04A hoot this time, right? A hoot for her for sure.
- 1:10:07All right, who'd you relate? To oh, I related to him.
- 1:10:11Just a lot of his like, you know, like his whole, like, I
- 1:10:16wish I could be what both of us need me to be like.
- 1:10:19I've said that more times than I care to count.
- 1:10:21So I like, I get it. Yeah.
- 1:10:24This is a hard one because. Like, there are a lot.
- 1:10:26I relate to both Tim and Millie in a lot of ways.
- 1:10:29So I'm going to say I relate to Tilly.
- 1:10:32There you go. Yeah.
- 1:10:34OK, tagline. All right, let's do this.
- 1:10:40Is there a weird from that Spice Girls thing that we could do for
- 1:10:43this right here I feel like. That'd be the perfect
- 1:10:48opportunity. Not let's not pull.
- 1:10:50It from to become one. Let's just just make the tagline
- 1:10:54spice up your life. Yeah, that's great.
- 1:10:57Spice up your life. I like that a lot.
- 1:10:59Yay. Cool.
- 1:11:00All right, so we're knocking these things out.
- 1:11:02We are so. What would Dom do?
- 1:11:05What would Dom do? Oh man, I think.
- 1:11:11Dom would find a. Way like him and Letty could
- 1:11:15just like, drive fast enough to not get attached?
- 1:11:19I think so, yeah. Also, Don doesn't need water to
- 1:11:23survive so he would never have to drink the water in the 1st
- 1:11:27place. Yeah, no, he.
- 1:11:29Survives purely on Nos photosynthesis.
- 1:11:31Yeah, Nos and photosynthesis. I was just like.
- 1:11:36I'm not picturing like Nos, I'm picturing the inner teacher but
- 1:11:40but. Jamie is welcomed into the
- 1:11:43family. He's like, he's like, I don't
- 1:11:46like that you tried to trick us into this happening, but you
- 1:11:50seem like a good people person, so somebody from the team gets
- 1:11:54merged. Though I'm going to say Brian
- 1:11:56and no, no, no, no. It's Tejan Roman.
- 1:12:00Tejan Roman. Because.
- 1:12:02Because they're always arguing. Over What's your face, the tech
- 1:12:07lady Ramsey? Ramsey yeah, that way they're.
- 1:12:11Merged and then they're with Ramsey.
- 1:12:13Perfect that love this. Yeah.
- 1:12:14This all works right here and our drink sequel we already.
- 1:12:16Discussed the strangers, the strangers, but so did the
- 1:12:20strangers. Come to get Tilly or do they
- 1:12:23come and get Dave and or Tim and Millie?
- 1:12:28Maybe it's just like a new couple that is going to be
- 1:12:33inducted by Jamie and Tilly, OK. And they're.
- 1:12:37Having their own relationship issues, as we see, is important
- 1:12:40to both of these movies. Yes.
- 1:12:42Yeah, OK. I like.
- 1:12:43That yeah, that works for me. All right, time for reviews.
- 1:12:49Time for reviews. Time for reviews.
- 1:12:52OK, so I pulled this one from IMDb here it's a -1 and it's a 3
- 1:12:58out of 10 titled a work colleague of mine described
- 1:13:01together as Cronenberg White. I think that Cronenberg shy is
- 1:13:04more at Damn that's. Brutal, but pretty good.
- 1:13:10Yeah, I'm. Gonna give him props here.
- 1:13:12Dave Franco and Allison Brie play long term couple Tim and
- 1:13:15Millie, whose relationship has hit a sticky patch.
- 1:13:18The couple moved to a Oh wow, this is just kind of a synopsis
- 1:13:22here. Director Michael Shanks
- 1:13:25commentary about the nature of relationships is extremely
- 1:13:27muddled. What exactly is the film trying
- 1:13:29to say about how couples interact, if indeed it is a
- 1:13:32trying, indeed if it is trying to say anything meaningful at
- 1:13:36all? Are Tim and Millie meant for
- 1:13:38each other or should they have parted ways long ago?
- 1:13:40The film's stance is uncertain. There's definitely something
- 1:13:43interesting to be said about the codependent nature of a human
- 1:13:47couple, but this film doesn't say it.
- 1:13:49Instead, having established its basic premise, the film just
- 1:13:52trundles along repetitively until it's inevitable shocking
- 1:13:55finale which feels like a lame attempt to match the craziness
- 1:13:59of the substances blood drenched climax.
- 1:14:01It comes out. It comes nowhere near The film
- 1:14:05boasts 1 memorable scene in which Tim and Millie become
- 1:14:08stuck together post coitus, with a surprising shot of Tim's
- 1:14:11members stretching as he tries to pull himself loose.
- 1:14:14A cock shot in a 15 certificate. It's definitely the wildest
- 1:14:18moment in a film that needed a lot more of that kind of
- 1:14:22craziness to succeed, to be fair, to be fair.
- 1:14:25We don't see the head or the balls.
- 1:14:27That's true. That's true.
- 1:14:29Three and a. Half out of 10, rounded down to
- 1:14:31three for the unnecessary humor that jars with the horror and
- 1:14:34for the cheesy, predictable use of Spice Girls Hit 2.
- 1:14:37Become one. Man, I just agree on all counts.
- 1:14:41Yeah, this. Person dislikes all the things
- 1:14:43I. Like about this movie?
- 1:14:44Yeah. And and you know what?
- 1:14:45I could see how this would be a movie that's not for everyone.
- 1:14:48It's heavy, it's hard, it's uncomfortable, and it's kind of
- 1:14:54a drama. It's gross.
- 1:14:56Yeah. And yeah.
- 1:14:57If you've seen body horror in other movies that you prefer,
- 1:15:01like So now it's just hard to get over those preferences.
- 1:15:03Yeah, I get it. I mean, this movie, I don't
- 1:15:07know, it just hits a lot of things that it just sells like a
- 1:15:11very personal story and I, I just find it very interesting to
- 1:15:17watch. I, I like the characters here.
- 1:15:18I thought that they had great chemistry together and just,
- 1:15:22yeah, I, I, it's a relationship horror and it's a body horror
- 1:15:26movie and it's just, there's so much going wrong in this movie
- 1:15:29and it's tense and it's UN it makes you feel uneasy.
- 1:15:33And I don't know, I, it works for me, but OK, let's see what
- 1:15:38everybody else thinks. Over to listener reviews so we
- 1:15:42got one from Tucker who says wanted to like this one but it
- 1:15:46was kind of toothless didn't go far enough with the body horror
- 1:15:49and the relationship could have been delved into so much more
- 1:15:52and it was cool at least, but still I wanted more. 5 1/2 out
- 1:15:55of 10. OK, All right.
- 1:15:58Yeah, I guess like the. The drama of it takes over more
- 1:16:03than the body horror of it. It does, yeah.
- 1:16:07Yeah, it has a lot of like just weird stuff going throughout,
- 1:16:11like the I guess they didn't go hard enough into like they
- 1:16:14didn't have a whole lot of moments of them kind of near
- 1:16:17joining. Like they have that one in the
- 1:16:19bathroom and like their legs and lips kind of like get stuck
- 1:16:22occasionally in the hair moment. But I guess they could have done
- 1:16:25so much more with the premise if they wanted to toy around with
- 1:16:27it. A lot of really gross stuff
- 1:16:28when. They did the final merge like
- 1:16:30the eyelashes and then eyeballs. That was I could live without
- 1:16:33ever seeing that again. That that's true, man.
- 1:16:36That. Eye stuff is brutal for me to
- 1:16:37watch. Yeah, OK cool.
- 1:16:40OK, so that. Finishes us up with together.
- 1:16:44Oops and next week we are doing our Patreon voted episode and
- 1:16:49the vote was fall Yeah, which I'm excited about.
- 1:16:53It is actually currently streaming on Netflix, which is
- 1:16:56good because we won't have to rent it.
- 1:16:58But if you do need to rent it, it's available on YouTube,
