- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. The world's
- 0:09Speaker 1: original poet, Welcome to Patriot's Unfiltered. We got a little
- 0:19Speaker 1: insight into the psyche of Bill today, did we. Yeah.
- 0:22Speaker 1: I always like when you explain things to me. There
- 0:24Speaker 1: was a moment. How have you guys been managing about you? Yeah,
- 0:29Speaker 1: Mike's still under the weather. He's on the injury report.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Will be able to rifle through picks now because he
- 0:34Speaker 1: takes a little time sometimes, maybe you should take a
- 0:36Speaker 1: little more time. Oh, he actually hang out with Tony
- 0:39Speaker 1: Robinson Robbins, but she's met this week. I'm just kidding
- 0:44Speaker 1: about this. I thought he just had like this intervention coming. Well,
- 0:48Speaker 1: that's that's the joke, the actual joking. They were all quiet.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with Jacksonville. I will not bet on
- 0:59Speaker 1: a consecuted unterback. Oh, if somebody wants to give me
- 1:02Speaker 1: a third round for win, I'll do it. Well, yes,
- 1:07Speaker 1: I would do that. This is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan.
- 1:14Speaker 1: All right, Welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday, after
- 1:19Speaker 1: another win, the fourth of the season for the Patriots
- 1:22Speaker 1: to get them back to five hundred. So happy days
- 1:26Speaker 1: are here again. We're gonna talk about the game. A
- 1:29Speaker 1: lot of people called it not a loss instead of
- 1:32Speaker 1: a win, but we'll talk about that. I think any
- 1:35Speaker 1: road win in the NFL is a good win. But um,
- 1:38Speaker 1: we'll go over that. We'll go over the fact that
- 1:40Speaker 1: the Colts have just fired their offensive coordinator, uh, the
- 1:45Speaker 1: week before the Patriots game, so they fear us. That's right, Um,
- 1:50Speaker 1: and uh, you know, whatever else we want to talk about.
- 1:53Speaker 1: There's a lot of stuff going around. Trade deadline, trade deadline.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I don't think anything's gonna come with that, but we'll
- 1:58Speaker 1: see you information. I just you know, as you read
- 2:01Speaker 1: my notes, no we we'd be getting rumbled. You didn't.
- 2:04Speaker 1: I know, you didn't read my notes. Intriguing title there, Paul,
- 2:06Speaker 1: I like that. I like the titles. Is that you
- 2:09Speaker 1: must have just posted that right, yeah this morning? Yeah,
- 2:12Speaker 1: because I didn't see it. I didn't get the alert.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Well I was a little. But basically, my my premise
- 2:16Speaker 1: is just sit it out. You're a middling team. You
- 2:20Speaker 1: don't need to add, you don't need to sell off
- 2:22Speaker 1: pieces like because you don't really have anything. You know,
- 2:25Speaker 1: It's not like you have a Roquan Smith that might
- 2:28Speaker 1: get you a second round pick that you want to
- 2:30Speaker 1: move on from, right, right, So I think the players
- 2:33Speaker 1: that you have that are tradeable, um, aren't necessarily You're
- 2:39Speaker 1: not gonna Stevens, right, yeah, I mean those are the
- 2:42Speaker 1: guy Like we talk about all the receivers, and the
- 2:46Speaker 1: only one I think that would get you anything on
- 2:48Speaker 1: the open market is Tae Kwon Thornton. And you don't
- 2:49Speaker 1: want to trade him, right, No, I wouldn't say never,
- 2:53Speaker 1: but you probably want to hold on to him, you know.
- 2:56Speaker 1: And as much as I think you're right, I mean,
- 2:58Speaker 1: and you need tackles, isay whin. I wouldn't be opposed
- 3:01Speaker 1: to being like goodbye, Like I just I don't think
- 3:03Speaker 1: he's should not get it. But you know, controvutor to
- 3:05Speaker 1: Freds whatever, Yeah, contributor to Fred's third round, you know
- 3:09Speaker 1: he was. There were two linement worse than him that
- 3:11Speaker 1: played Sunday, just you know, three, three of them holding
- 3:16Speaker 1: hands together. Yeah, we're gonna get into that. Red got
- 3:19Speaker 1: a peak at his ceiling, which wasn't very high. The
- 3:25Speaker 1: Pro Bowl guys not so much. Do you think it?
- 3:29Speaker 1: He wasn't do you think there was anything at all
- 3:30Speaker 1: of them trying to put that on display at all
- 3:32Speaker 1: at all or just they had to because Cole Strange
- 3:34Speaker 1: was absolutely could have been part of it. By Cole
- 3:36Speaker 1: Strange really struggled in the game, so I think they
- 3:39Speaker 1: went with what they felt were their five best players, um,
- 3:43Speaker 1: you know at one point, and Cannon was really really
- 3:46Speaker 1: struggling in this game too, So um, I think the
- 3:49Speaker 1: line as a whole did not play. Yeah, I thought,
- 3:52Speaker 1: I mean, I know, I know, it doesn't it didn't
- 3:54Speaker 1: hear on when used name, Well, no, he played well.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I mean again, I'm not amos Alonzo Stagg I don't
- 4:00Speaker 1: pretend to be. But I saw watching replays him consistently
- 4:04Speaker 1: blocking his blocking somebody, and I didn't see that from
- 4:07Speaker 1: those other three guys. I didn't see Trent Brown getting
- 4:09Speaker 1: beat neither those other three were glaring. I mean, Isaiah Win,
- 4:12Speaker 1: I think it was the first play he came in
- 4:14Speaker 1: at right tackle, roller skates right back into Mac Jones.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's as bad as you could get.
- 4:19Speaker 1: And Cannon I've been like kind of optimistic, I think
- 4:22Speaker 1: just because of who he was in the past. But
- 4:23Speaker 1: watch if he can't run anymore, and it's it's going
- 4:26Speaker 1: to be a struggle. I mean, I think we said
- 4:28Speaker 1: on the show maybe mentioned like give good juice the
- 4:30Speaker 1: chance they got, they gotta figure someone out in the offense.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I wouldn't be stunned if if you see Isaiah win
- 4:35Speaker 1: get traded today, because I thought it was interesting and
- 4:37Speaker 1: Mike Reese talked about this a little bit. You know,
- 4:40Speaker 1: Mike asked him in the locker room, you know how
- 4:43Speaker 1: basically how it felt to have your name thrown out there,
- 4:45Speaker 1: and he got really really upset about it. So that's
- 4:48Speaker 1: why I just don't think he's on the same page.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Like for me, that's just more about we gotta get
- 4:52Speaker 1: the locker room right, and he just doesn't seem invested
- 4:54Speaker 1: in and even trying to attain a level where we
- 4:56Speaker 1: can get good play out of him and really start
- 4:58Speaker 1: to solidify things. But I just start so to Mike's point,
- 5:02Speaker 1: if you feel like you need to get rid of
- 5:03Speaker 1: him because he's not good for the culture anymore, yeah,
- 5:08Speaker 1: then I don't mind, you know, doing that and just
- 5:10Speaker 1: saying Yadnika just can do the same, you know, sort
- 5:13Speaker 1: of right quote unquote every other time. I'm sure, Yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 1: so that's that's looming. Um, so let's get right into it.
- 5:21Speaker 1: It's Deuce, it's Paul, it's me, Um, it's next step.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Duce back in the studio. I'm back. I'm back from COVID. Everybody, Hello,
- 5:28Speaker 1: thank you for for Matt and the booth. Will will
- 5:31Speaker 1: we be joined by anyone else today? No, Alex is
- 5:34Speaker 1: out on community. Oh there's a lot of events. Yeah,
- 5:36Speaker 1: a lot of stuff. Tamara was out today. Yeah, it's
- 5:38Speaker 1: it's and Evan's doing coaches stuff. So yeah, we're just
- 5:41Speaker 1: the three of us. Okay, Yeah, we'll get to the
- 5:43Speaker 1: bottom of it though. Sure. So let's start with what
- 5:47Speaker 1: happened today. Uh win in a row? Yes for the
- 5:53Speaker 1: Patriots over the Jets and uh twenty one out of
- 5:56Speaker 1: twenty three. Wow, I said it on the postgame show.
- 5:59Speaker 1: You know, things have changed a lot of things have
- 6:02Speaker 1: changed over the last few years. Beating the Jets is
- 6:04Speaker 1: not one of them. So they have not dropped to
- 6:06Speaker 1: that level yet. No matter what you say about the Patriots,
- 6:09Speaker 1: they can still I don't know what the word is, like,
- 6:11Speaker 1: make less mistakes than the Jets. I think that's kind
- 6:13Speaker 1: of what it was. And you know, it's kind of
- 6:17Speaker 1: what I was talking about, like in the week leading up,
- 6:19Speaker 1: and I told you, I'll take the blunami. If the
- 6:22Speaker 1: Jets come out and they play better than the Patriots
- 6:24Speaker 1: and they win the game, I'll tell I was I
- 6:26Speaker 1: was prepared to take the slings and arrows from you,
- 6:28Speaker 1: and I'm sure countless of the people listening, But this
- 6:31Speaker 1: is what I've seen. Like, I think they have young talent,
- 6:35Speaker 1: they have pieces in place, certainly, but they do not
- 6:38Speaker 1: have a team yet because they're they're held back by
- 6:40Speaker 1: the quarterback. And I'm gonna say coaching too, because I
- 6:44Speaker 1: just think if you watch the Patriots games, if you
- 6:47Speaker 1: prepared for this game, and you watched the Patriots the
- 6:50Speaker 1: last two weeks, and you said, I know what I'm
- 6:54Speaker 1: gonna do. I'm gonna follow what Cleveland did and I'm
- 6:57Speaker 1: going to ignore what Chicago did. That's on you. That's
- 7:01Speaker 1: on you. That's not on Zach Wilson. That's on you.
- 7:04Speaker 1: You asked him to do something he can't do. Throw
- 7:07Speaker 1: the ball forty something times without turning it over. He
- 7:10Speaker 1: can't do that yet. He might be able to do
- 7:12Speaker 1: that in the future. He may never be able to
- 7:13Speaker 1: do that in the future. He cost you a game
- 7:16Speaker 1: the other day because you allowed him to Mike Lafloor.
- 7:19Speaker 1: That was on you. You think the game would have
- 7:20Speaker 1: been different if they had haul Hell, do you think
- 7:22Speaker 1: the game would have been different if they just said
- 7:24Speaker 1: we can run the ball, go three and out and
- 7:26Speaker 1: punt every time? Yes? I do. I mean, I think
- 7:29Speaker 1: to Paul's point, they've been stacking draft picks. I mean
- 7:32Speaker 1: they've got at every kind of key position. You look
- 7:34Speaker 1: at Sauce Gardner at safety, corn and Williams at defensive end. Uh.
- 7:38Speaker 1: You know, I know Beckton hasn't really worked out, but
- 7:40Speaker 1: Zach Wilson's out there breeze halls now, So they're building
- 7:43Speaker 1: something there. And I mean I think in a couple
- 7:45Speaker 1: of weeks when we're back here, that's gonna be every
- 7:47Speaker 1: bit the dog fight, and the Patriots are gonna have
- 7:49Speaker 1: to again. You know, you're not gonna be able to
- 7:50Speaker 1: get a couple of calls that swing things dramatically like
- 7:53Speaker 1: they did. I mean, they were they were looking at
- 7:55Speaker 1: seventeen to three, being seventeen to three right before the half.
- 7:59Speaker 1: I mean, I just think that moment of like inflection.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I asked the guys on the postgame show, which I
- 8:03Speaker 1: can only imagine what it was like. I'm watching it
- 8:05Speaker 1: by myself. I'm like, you know, losing my mind in
- 8:07Speaker 1: my living room to to imagine what it was like
- 8:10Speaker 1: when when that looked like they're about to throw a
- 8:12Speaker 1: pick six here and he's gonna walk into the end
- 8:13Speaker 1: zone and that's how we're gonna cap the first half.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I mean, everyone out there who said that could have
- 8:18Speaker 1: been it for Mac, I kind of agree it could
- 8:20Speaker 1: have been. Um, certainly it could have been for the game. Uh,
- 8:24Speaker 1: you know, because I just don't see the Patriots coming
- 8:27Speaker 1: back right from that, um, the way they were playing
- 8:31Speaker 1: and even as it turned out. I mean, if it
- 8:34Speaker 1: wasn't for Nick Folk again, you know, you wouldn't even
- 8:38Speaker 1: have Yeah. But Mike, I think, is talking about not
- 8:42Speaker 1: that was it for the game. I know he's talking
- 8:44Speaker 1: about Mac Jones out of the game the game, I know, yeah, yeah,
- 8:46Speaker 1: And I don't think Bill would have taken him out,
- 8:49Speaker 1: But I think it would have been a really hard decision.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And I think that you can stay with him because
- 8:55Speaker 1: you were on the road. If that had happened at home,
- 8:58Speaker 1: even with the flag, even with the flag, it would
- 9:01Speaker 1: not have been pretty Yeah, you know, I got I
- 9:04Speaker 1: got another thing. I gotta get off my chest. To
- 9:06Speaker 1: get it off your chest might get it all out.
- 9:08Speaker 1: The first year you had Mac grab Brian burns his
- 9:11Speaker 1: ankle and you know, all right, I'll let that go.
- 9:13Speaker 1: And then we got you a couple of weeks ago.
- 9:14Speaker 1: He slides and he puts his foot up. And then
- 9:16Speaker 1: now against the Jets game, we got him like going down. Oh,
- 9:19Speaker 1: I'm concussed for a moment. Second, No, I'm okay. Then
- 9:21Speaker 1: he goes out of bounds. He kind of delays for
- 9:23Speaker 1: a second. I'm over. I'm over the Mac Joe trying
- 9:26Speaker 1: to bait people into injuries playing Vladi Divatch Lakers basketball.
- 9:30Speaker 1: As my wife likes to say, that stuff's gotta go. Man,
- 9:33Speaker 1: I'm so sick of watching him and try to get
- 9:35Speaker 1: calls like that, and he's gonna get called. And I
- 9:38Speaker 1: know we're making fun of Boomers, sizing on the postgame
- 9:40Speaker 1: show about like, oh, I thought they were going to
- 9:41Speaker 1: pull him, they should have pulled him just before being
- 9:43Speaker 1: an idiot and trying to I wasn't voice making fun
- 9:45Speaker 1: of Boomers. I think you brought a Boomers size and
- 9:47Speaker 1: saying he should have been should have been pulled for
- 9:49Speaker 1: concussion protocol. Okay, yeah, you know, I thought you meant
- 9:53Speaker 1: pulled for performance. No, no no, no, you know, because I
- 9:55Speaker 1: wouldn't make fun of anybody that that thought he was
- 9:56Speaker 1: going to get taken out of the game. I think
- 9:58Speaker 1: that was in but he would have got what he
- 9:59Speaker 1: does if he's trying to pull like these Oh I'm hurt,
- 10:02Speaker 1: just kidding, like, I'm so sick of him trying to
- 10:04Speaker 1: draw calls and do this stuff. Like I'll overlook the
- 10:06Speaker 1: stuff in the beginning, but like sliding with your foot up,
- 10:08Speaker 1: this kind of bush league stuff, it's got to go
- 10:11Speaker 1: for me with mac Jones. Yeah, and that's a that's
- 10:14Speaker 1: a whole separate aside. I love the rant from Mike.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I'm a little surprise to hear it from Mike, but
- 10:19Speaker 1: I like it. Um, that's that's independent. There are so
- 10:22Speaker 1: many bigger like the league is really impacting outcomes of games,
- 10:26Speaker 1: and I'm not listening. I'm not talking about good calls,
- 10:28Speaker 1: bad calls or whatever. They have to figure out what
- 10:31Speaker 1: roughing the passer is, Okay, and I'm I'm they threw
- 10:34Speaker 1: a flag and I'm fine with the flag. I'm not
- 10:36Speaker 1: telling you it was a bad call. I'm just telling
- 10:38Speaker 1: you I see a lot worse than that not call. Well,
- 10:40Speaker 1: from from game to game, from quarter to the quarter.
- 10:42Speaker 1: I'm just telling you I've seen him. Jacoby Brissette took
- 10:45Speaker 1: a shot last night in the Monday night game that
- 10:47Speaker 1: vastly exceeded what Mac Jones took in that game. No call.
- 10:51Speaker 1: He was like holding his ribs going on the line
- 10:53Speaker 1: trying to spike the ball at the end of the
- 10:55Speaker 1: half um. And the second part is the thing that
- 10:58Speaker 1: Boomer brought up, And this is why I sort of
- 11:00Speaker 1: bristled at it, that whole concussion thing. Do you know
- 11:03Speaker 1: that they made Stefan Diggs leave the game the other
- 11:05Speaker 1: night because he bit his tongue. Wow, And they thought
- 11:08Speaker 1: he was holding his head. He was holding his like
- 11:10Speaker 1: he bit his tongue like that potentially impacts the game.
- 11:15Speaker 1: One of the things I was thinking about with the
- 11:17Speaker 1: whole roughing the passer is okay, defenses should say, okay,
- 11:22Speaker 1: so we can't hit the guy hard, so we want
- 11:25Speaker 1: you to change it, you know, the emphasis so that
- 11:28Speaker 1: as soon as we get him in the grap the
- 11:29Speaker 1: moment we get him in a grasp, you blow the
- 11:32Speaker 1: whistle so that we don't have to hit him and
- 11:35Speaker 1: we don't have to bring him to the ground. You know,
- 11:37Speaker 1: if that's the way you want to do it, then
- 11:39Speaker 1: give us a break here. I think I think you're
- 11:41Speaker 1: totally right. Fred I had a similar thought of I
- 11:43Speaker 1: think that they need to reteach players how to sack
- 11:46Speaker 1: quarterbacks when they have a free shot at him, and
- 11:47Speaker 1: to get everybody on this sad. That's what I would
- 11:49Speaker 1: do if I was a defensive lineman, I'd say, I
- 11:51Speaker 1: want a seminar and what you think is right, I
- 11:53Speaker 1: want to I want to clip you know how they
- 11:54Speaker 1: have all the all the cut ups. Now I want
- 11:56Speaker 1: a clip of every hit on the quarterback and I
- 11:58Speaker 1: want every referee to tell me which one you think
- 12:00Speaker 1: was a penalty in which one isn't, because I would
- 12:02Speaker 1: have no idea what to do and bring the roughs
- 12:04Speaker 1: into like have everybody lives, like we'll have a big sale.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Charles Davis said that John Franklin Myers launched himself, so
- 12:13Speaker 1: he didn't launch himself high, right, right, like if you
- 12:18Speaker 1: launch Harrison, Like when you launch yourself and hit someone
- 12:21Speaker 1: in the head. Yeah, I get why you're going to
- 12:22Speaker 1: get a penalty like launching yourself, otherwise known as tackling. Yeah. Right,
- 12:28Speaker 1: and and again, I have no problem that that that play.
- 12:32Speaker 1: That play has been called roughing the passer a lot.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I haven't like. If I'm the Jets, I'm pissed, But
- 12:37Speaker 1: what are you gonna do? I've seen roughs. Yes, this
- 12:40Speaker 1: roughing the pastor call happened all the time. I don't
- 12:42Speaker 1: think that was an egregiously bad call. I don't. I'm
- 12:44Speaker 1: not trying to tell you that the Jets got screwed,
- 12:46Speaker 1: because I don't think they did. But I've seen that called,
- 12:49Speaker 1: and i've seen it not called. And you and you
- 12:51Speaker 1: don't get called for launching into a quarterback when you
- 12:54Speaker 1: hit him where he hit him, like he didn't hit
- 12:56Speaker 1: him high and he didn't hit him low, Sala said.
- 12:59Speaker 1: After the game, they asked, they said, what was the
- 13:01Speaker 1: explanation on the ruling, and he said, we hit him
- 13:04Speaker 1: too hard? And he said it just like that, Like,
- 13:07Speaker 1: you can't be kidding me. Now, I will say this.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I said this to Fred yesterday. Mike. I don't know.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I'm not telling you. I believe Sala and that's what
- 13:15Speaker 1: they said. But if that's what they said, that's even worse. Yeah,
- 13:20Speaker 1: you hit him, you call you gave a penalty? What
- 13:22Speaker 1: is this youth football? I've seen that in youth. How
- 13:24Speaker 1: do you basically hit him too hard? Right? Okay? The
- 13:27Speaker 1: force meter he passed four thousand, whatevers and yeah, yeah,
- 13:31Speaker 1: Now I don't necessarily believe sala. I think he was emotional,
- 13:34Speaker 1: he was upset. He might have said something stupid. I
- 13:35Speaker 1: don't necessarily believe that explanation. Yeah, but that was you know,
- 13:40Speaker 1: you know, you see that those highlights every week, you know,
- 13:43Speaker 1: NFL turning point. Yeah, that was the turning point of
- 13:46Speaker 1: I know what was somebody had like the EPA or
- 13:49Speaker 1: side what he was, like evan on for this one,
- 13:51Speaker 1: but like it was like the biggest swing of the
- 13:52Speaker 1: season in terms of like point potential on that one
- 13:55Speaker 1: single play. And yeah, now give him give credit to
- 13:58Speaker 1: the Patriots. They took advantage of that. Never looked back
- 14:01Speaker 1: really but except you know, toward the end. I mean,
- 14:04Speaker 1: I would say they came out in the second, they
- 14:06Speaker 1: got a really short kickoff, they got a huge run
- 14:08Speaker 1: that romand or Stevenson somehow broke like six tackles in
- 14:11Speaker 1: the hole and then and then they weren't a business.
- 14:13Speaker 1: But I think that Other than that drive at the end,
- 14:16Speaker 1: the defense played pretty well. The defense was fine, but
- 14:19Speaker 1: I'm not saying that Jets didn't help. The defense was fine.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Like that's why you won the game was ultimately you
- 14:24Speaker 1: were able to get them to make mistakes. And I
- 14:28Speaker 1: do think that some of the you know it was
- 14:29Speaker 1: pre they had some pressure in the second once they
- 14:31Speaker 1: got the lead, they started getting some pressure on Wilson.
- 14:33Speaker 1: I think that led to some of the bad decisions.
- 14:35Speaker 1: So I give the defense credit. I thought they played fine. Um,
- 14:40Speaker 1: the rest of it is just like this whole notion
- 14:44Speaker 1: that things changed in the second half. Matt Jones was
- 14:46Speaker 1: better in the first half in this game than he
- 14:48Speaker 1: was in the second half. They had like one hundred
- 14:50Speaker 1: and twenty yards of offense in the second half. This
- 14:52Speaker 1: hole like it got better after the break, Like Mike said,
- 14:57Speaker 1: short field on on a mishit kick. And then the
- 15:01Speaker 1: best and only real play you made offensively all day
- 15:04Speaker 1: involved you're best player breaking about three tackles in the
- 15:07Speaker 1: backfield and going thirty five yards. Yeah, you don't score
- 15:11Speaker 1: without that. If he gets stopped in the backfield in
- 15:14Speaker 1: at second and twelve, you don't score in that drive. Now,
- 15:17Speaker 1: and Paul, what do you think about And I say
- 15:19Speaker 1: this as somebody who who honestly was a little bit
- 15:22Speaker 1: hesitant to put Mac on the downlist. And I and
- 15:24Speaker 1: even after we got out, like before the show, I
- 15:26Speaker 1: was thinking about it. Christian put him right on and
- 15:29Speaker 1: I just said my piece about I don't know, I
- 15:31Speaker 1: feel like there was a lot of pressure. I'm trying
- 15:32Speaker 1: to give him a little bit of a break. And
- 15:34Speaker 1: you know, even after the show, I was still kind
- 15:35Speaker 1: of thinking about, you know, was Mac bad? Was good?
- 15:38Speaker 1: And now there's this kind of weird, like little seat
- 15:40Speaker 1: change going on where even guys like Bernardo like, actually,
- 15:43Speaker 1: you guys, he wasn't too bad. And I don't know
- 15:46Speaker 1: if I'm quite ready to go there. I just I
- 15:48Speaker 1: just still think they're really limited. And you know, even
- 15:51Speaker 1: when he plays well, it still looks like, Okay, I
- 15:55Speaker 1: give him credit for I mean, the pressure was no question.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I mean the hits that he took. The bigger issue
- 16:00Speaker 1: offensively was the offensive protection. But Mac was not good. Well.
- 16:03Speaker 1: The way I look at this game is how would
- 16:05Speaker 1: Mack have looked if he had a decent line in
- 16:08Speaker 1: front of him in this game? I think he would
- 16:11Speaker 1: have been Okay, So who wouldn't look good in that? No,
- 16:14Speaker 1: I'm just I'm just saying, like, you know, I don't
- 16:16Speaker 1: think it's really hard for a quarterback to look good
- 16:18Speaker 1: when you got a line playing the way it was playing.
- 16:21Speaker 1: If that's the difference between the good ones and the
- 16:23Speaker 1: ones that, yeah, you need all the help. Yeah, And
- 16:25Speaker 1: I think too, like as much as as as the
- 16:27Speaker 1: pressure was absolutely, I'm just Paul that that was more
- 16:31Speaker 1: than just needing a little help. That line was not
- 16:33Speaker 1: playing well. I mean, I understand, and he did nothing
- 16:36Speaker 1: to help the offensive line out. Now, I've seen good
- 16:39Speaker 1: quarterbacks do that constantly, and I think that there are
- 16:41Speaker 1: times to look at Joe Burrow two steps up and
- 16:44Speaker 1: get rid of it, like he's just not fine in
- 16:46Speaker 1: the pocket. And I think, how do you think Joe
- 16:48Speaker 1: Burrow played last night? We played better than Mac, but
- 16:52Speaker 1: he played terribly. I know, but he's he's also a
- 16:55Speaker 1: better quarterback than Mac. But he was awful. And because
- 16:58Speaker 1: his line sucks, I don't here what it was because
- 17:01Speaker 1: of he didn't play what you know, he's a good quarterback, Paul,
- 17:03Speaker 1: I know he is a good quarterback. Last night he
- 17:06Speaker 1: did not play well. Why because he didn't throw the
- 17:08Speaker 1: ball accurately. Okay, Anyway, That's why I think like you
- 17:12Speaker 1: have to be fair about him. I can't just say
- 17:15Speaker 1: he plays every game with no protection. Tom Brady play
- 17:18Speaker 1: poorly when he's had right and I've seen him play
- 17:21Speaker 1: great when he's had no protection. He's just like Joe
- 17:23Speaker 1: Burrow was done throughout his career with no protection. But
- 17:26Speaker 1: it last night he was bad. Yeah, I'm just saying
- 17:30Speaker 1: I you know, I'm I'm giving Mac a little latitude
- 17:33Speaker 1: on this game. I'm not saying this is who he is.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I'm saying that. Yeah, but don't miss, don't miss take it.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I'm not telling you this was all on Mac Jones.
- 17:40Speaker 1: The biggest problem with the Jets game was Twofold Number one.
- 17:45Speaker 1: The Jets are pretty good on defense, they are number two.
- 17:48Speaker 1: They could not protect the passer. They couldn't open up
- 17:51Speaker 1: any holes. They couldn't protect the passer. Now, I don't
- 17:53Speaker 1: think Mac Jones did a whole lot to overcome any
- 17:57Speaker 1: of that. And I think the quarterbacks job, as Bill
- 18:00Speaker 1: Belichick says all the time, is to move the ball
- 18:02Speaker 1: and score points. They did neither. They didn't move the
- 18:05Speaker 1: ball and they didn't score any points. All the points
- 18:08Speaker 1: they got were basically given to them. They had three
- 18:10Speaker 1: drives in which they didn't really get a first down,
- 18:13Speaker 1: three field goals without even recording a first down. Absolutely,
- 18:16Speaker 1: I think I think Mac himself is working through some things.
- 18:19Speaker 1: But it's hard. It's hard. When it is hard, it's
- 18:23Speaker 1: hard to play quarterback in that league. It is, Yes,
- 18:26Speaker 1: it is. I I to Paul's point, I just don't
- 18:28Speaker 1: think he has the same kind of pocket awareness that
- 18:31Speaker 1: he had that I saw last year, where yes, there's pressure,
- 18:34Speaker 1: there's gonna be moments the pocket is not there, but
- 18:37Speaker 1: it's a subtle chef to the left, shut up, boom
- 18:40Speaker 1: and get it up. And I feel like as soon
- 18:41Speaker 1: as the pressure he feels it, he's out. The strip
- 18:43Speaker 1: sack to me, was egregious on Mac. Yeah he stood
- 18:48Speaker 1: there too, Yeah, but had to see him. He had
- 18:53Speaker 1: to feel that guy coming. Yeah, he's got no put
- 18:56Speaker 1: the ball in harm's way, Like, I don't think that's
- 18:58Speaker 1: a play he would have made last year. I just
- 19:00Speaker 1: remember I saw that coming. I'm like, oh, come on, man,
- 19:02Speaker 1: right right, No, And that's like one of those ones
- 19:04Speaker 1: where everybody you're just holding your breath because no, well,
- 19:07Speaker 1: especially when you're thinking to yourself, I can't lose this game.
- 19:10Speaker 1: There's no way I can lose this game unless I
- 19:12Speaker 1: do something really egregious to help them, like holding the ball,
- 19:15Speaker 1: Like holding the ball and have it bounced five yards
- 19:18Speaker 1: behind anybody where someone on the Jets can pick it
- 19:21Speaker 1: up and run it for a touchdown. Now, Fortunately col
- 19:24Speaker 1: Strange ended up recovering the fumble and it didn't turn
- 19:26Speaker 1: into a complete disaster, but they continue to put the
- 19:31Speaker 1: ball in harm's way far too often. Sixteen giveaway is
- 19:35Speaker 1: tied with by the way the Colts for the most
- 19:38Speaker 1: in football, and they tried hard to do it even more. Yeah,
- 19:43Speaker 1: big should have had four turnovers in that game. Yeah,
- 19:46Speaker 1: is it? And I can understand why some people said,
- 19:49Speaker 1: you know, was more of not a loss than a win,
- 19:52Speaker 1: you know which, Like again, it's the Jets, though they
- 19:55Speaker 1: had they had to win the game. So like I
- 19:58Speaker 1: said on the post game show with Mike and like
- 20:00Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not big on style points, Like I'm
- 20:02Speaker 1: not gonna tell you this was a great performance. This
- 20:04Speaker 1: was a gritty, gutty effort. I don't think it was.
- 20:06Speaker 1: I think they allowed the other team to mess up
- 20:08Speaker 1: more than they did, and they won. But they had
- 20:10Speaker 1: a win, so I don't really care why it happened. Yeah,
- 20:13Speaker 1: I mean the Jets, I mean they You could you
- 20:16Speaker 1: could make the case that if this was the game
- 20:18Speaker 1: where the Jets were going to break the streak, or
- 20:20Speaker 1: if there was a game where that this would seem
- 20:22Speaker 1: like it was right on a four game winning streak.
- 20:26Speaker 1: They're pumped up. You know, you figured, Okay, this is
- 20:29Speaker 1: gonna be tough, and it was tough. But you know,
- 20:32Speaker 1: at the same time, they're off their offense. Let them down.
- 20:35Speaker 1: I thought the quarterback like Rich Simony, is that how
- 20:38Speaker 1: you uh? You know? Some some tweets from him, some
- 20:41Speaker 1: tweets from a long time Jets blogger named Joe Caparrosso
- 20:44Speaker 1: who runs the site Turn on the Jets. He's like,
- 20:46Speaker 1: you know, every bit of super Patriots blogger, No, this
- 20:50Speaker 1: is the these are people though those are your people. No,
- 20:52Speaker 1: this is the but these are the people that you
- 20:54Speaker 1: have figure on the pulse of the These are the
- 20:59Speaker 1: guys that for fifteen years he has been following the Jets,
- 21:01Speaker 1: like I've been following the Patriots. And while I've been like, wow,
- 21:03Speaker 1: I was in this great he's been suffering through everything.
- 21:06Speaker 1: The Jets. Anyway, the vibe from them coming in was
- 21:09Speaker 1: like twenty two. This is it, this is payback. They
- 21:14Speaker 1: embarrassed us last year. We've got the better team. Now
- 21:16Speaker 1: they were embarrassed last week. You're gonna come in here
- 21:19Speaker 1: and and that's I mean, you talk about it wasn't
- 21:21Speaker 1: a last week. You don't know what it would have
- 21:23Speaker 1: been like to lose that game to the Jets. I mean,
- 21:24Speaker 1: it would have been it would have been devastating. So
- 21:26Speaker 1: for that point, I'm it's a win. But I can't
- 21:28Speaker 1: wait for the rematch in a couple of weeks because
- 21:30Speaker 1: that team can't maybe watch sixty more minutes or those
- 21:34Speaker 1: two teams playing. Please, it's actually three weeks because of
- 21:36Speaker 1: the vibe. All right, right, I got you. The buyers
- 21:38Speaker 1: don't count to me, Paul, and I'm only football. Sorry
- 21:41Speaker 1: that was COVID brain right there. Um. But yeah, I
- 21:44Speaker 1: think they're gonna come back in and they're gonna play
- 21:46Speaker 1: even more with something to prove some pressure off, not
- 21:48Speaker 1: in front of their fans. It's not like the big
- 21:50Speaker 1: production of this is when we take down the dynasty.
- 21:53Speaker 1: But me though, says that when they have that close
- 21:57Speaker 1: game in New York, they come back here and get
- 21:59Speaker 1: absolute least absolutely fact, yeah, absolutely fact. I agree with
- 22:03Speaker 1: Mike though in this in this case, in that I
- 22:05Speaker 1: think a lot of people just have penciled in these
- 22:07Speaker 1: two games, the Colts and the Jets the second one. Um,
- 22:11Speaker 1: Like I said, if they just go back and look
- 22:13Speaker 1: and they say, all we have to do is be
- 22:15Speaker 1: conservative and keep him out of harm's way, we can win.
- 22:20Speaker 1: They will have a chance to. I will guarantee you
- 22:22Speaker 1: if they just don't turn the ball over, they'll have
- 22:25Speaker 1: a chance. Yeah, I'm not telling you they'll win if
- 22:26Speaker 1: they don't turn it over, But if they just stay
- 22:29Speaker 1: out of the way and and make him throw when
- 22:33Speaker 1: he wants to as opposed, you know, make it twenty
- 22:36Speaker 1: three attempts instead of forty one attempts. He I mean,
- 22:41Speaker 1: this is probably for a different time, maybe an offseason.
- 22:46Speaker 1: I'd be ridiculously frustrated if I were a Jets fan,
- 22:49Speaker 1: because it's one thing to have a bust that you
- 22:51Speaker 1: you know, Achille Smith just couldn't do it. You know,
- 22:54Speaker 1: DeMarcus Russell, countless others right high draft picks that just
- 22:58Speaker 1: can't play. This guy can play. He's just too stubborn.
- 23:04Speaker 1: To understand when and when not to do things that
- 23:08Speaker 1: he does. Yeah, some of the throws he made on
- 23:10Speaker 1: that in that game were ridiculous. The throw in the
- 23:13Speaker 1: first like the second drive, the bomb on the when
- 23:16Speaker 1: he escaped the pocket rolling to his right and he
- 23:18Speaker 1: hit Grett Wilson in stride, Like, that's not an easy play.
- 23:22Speaker 1: He's got a great arm, you know what I think
- 23:24Speaker 1: he is. He's Josh Allen light well, and I don't
- 23:28Speaker 1: know if he can ever figure it out the way
- 23:30Speaker 1: Josh Allen did. Josh Allen still has some of those things.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Don't think he respects the speed of the defense. He doesn't.
- 23:35Speaker 1: He doesn't ren outrun everybody. He doesn't respect anything. I
- 23:37Speaker 1: just I think once he gets off his first read
- 23:39Speaker 1: and things start to change. I mean, I think he's
- 23:41Speaker 1: pretty good when he's on the run sometimes, but those
- 23:43Speaker 1: mistakes are just absolute. Like, you know, he's running like
- 23:46Speaker 1: twenty five yards behind the line of scrimmage. I know,
- 23:49Speaker 1: I've never seen a guy your your bat pedal and
- 23:52Speaker 1: you're not even gonna reach the line of scrimmage. Would
- 23:53Speaker 1: you throw? I've never seen a guy throw so many
- 23:56Speaker 1: interceptions or interception worthy throws while trying to throw the
- 23:59Speaker 1: ball away. It's like and he was trying to throw
- 24:01Speaker 1: the ball away and he throws it to Devin mccordy,
- 24:03Speaker 1: and like, I don't really understand how stupid you have
- 24:06Speaker 1: to be as a quarterback to just not run to
- 24:09Speaker 1: the right and throw it out of bounds right, and
- 24:11Speaker 1: it's and it's as much as damage as the turnover
- 24:13Speaker 1: does within the game, I think psychologically to your team,
- 24:16Speaker 1: because I know how I felt about this guy's an
- 24:18Speaker 1: idiot when you said about all that stuff about the
- 24:21Speaker 1: crowd and the fans and the reaction going into the game,
- 24:24Speaker 1: I felt like that all completely disappeared on the first interception. Yeah,
- 24:28Speaker 1: there was not one peep in that stadium the whole
- 24:30Speaker 1: second half, and it was all because they were like, Okay,
- 24:34Speaker 1: this is what we've been doing. We stay close, we
- 24:36Speaker 1: get the lead. It's a low score that that was
- 24:38Speaker 1: the Jets kind of game. At ten three with the
- 24:41Speaker 1: ball to end the half, it was probably going to
- 24:43Speaker 1: be thirteen three because they were moving and they had
- 24:46Speaker 1: moved the ball. They had four hundred yards of offense
- 24:48Speaker 1: in this game, Like, they moved the ball reasonably well
- 24:51Speaker 1: and only that last drive was garbage town. You know,
- 24:54Speaker 1: and I'll chop off the last drive. Patriots defense played well, yeah,
- 24:59Speaker 1: so I'm not telling, but I'm stuff. They made some
- 25:00Speaker 1: plays in this game and they were moving at the
- 25:03Speaker 1: end of the half and he had the running back
- 25:04Speaker 1: I think it was Ty Johnson wide open and he
- 25:07Speaker 1: throws off his back foot. He floats it carelessly. If
- 25:11Speaker 1: he doesn't figure it out, he'll always be that. But
- 25:15Speaker 1: you know that a lot of those things that he
- 25:16Speaker 1: does the things that Josh Allen did. Yes, until he
- 25:19Speaker 1: figured out he does not have the size or physical
- 25:23Speaker 1: gifts that Josh Allen does. That's why you say he's
- 25:25Speaker 1: Josh Allen light. He couldn't hit. He's gonna hit the
- 25:28Speaker 1: bull every once in a while because he's all over
- 25:30Speaker 1: the place with that army. But he can throw the
- 25:32Speaker 1: ball that that touchdown throw to Conklin the first touchdown.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Oh that was I mean, I felt bad for Josh.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Great coverage on that play. That's exactly what I wrote
- 25:42Speaker 1: in my little thing called I was like, that's the NFL.
- 25:45Speaker 1: He can you a little thing out of it. Sorry,
- 25:48Speaker 1: but I think that these teams are so interesting to
- 25:50Speaker 1: me because you have you know, obviously, the quarterbacks line
- 25:53Speaker 1: up in terms of the draft class. But you know,
- 25:55Speaker 1: we always talk about you need high round draft guys,
- 25:57Speaker 1: you need talent, and I think when you look at
- 25:59Speaker 1: the Jets, they have talent. How did Garrett Wilson look
- 26:02Speaker 1: the awesome? I mean, he was my favorite receiver coming out,
- 26:05Speaker 1: like I mean, he's not the best receiver. The best
- 26:07Speaker 1: receiver was hers. Wilson killed them, you know, and don't
- 26:11Speaker 1: even talk about you know, like third fourth overall pick
- 26:13Speaker 1: guys like Franklin Myers. I mean, these guys are disruptive,
- 26:16Speaker 1: they are tough, and you know, it's just it's interesting
- 26:18Speaker 1: for a team. Sometimes. We talked so much about the
- 26:21Speaker 1: Patriots being kind of talent starved and only having you know,
- 26:23Speaker 1: if you're doing a draft, how many Patriots would you
- 26:25Speaker 1: take versus Jets. I get those points, and it's just
- 26:28Speaker 1: Zach Wilson is killing them. He kills them, and if
- 26:30Speaker 1: he just didn't do that, the Jets would probably be
- 26:32Speaker 1: neck and neck. I think that was one of those games.
- 26:34Speaker 1: And I know you guys are gonna make fun of me,
- 26:36Speaker 1: and I know the fans and the I mean the listeners,
- 26:39Speaker 1: and you're right to make fun of me for saying
- 26:41Speaker 1: this because I'm going to come off as a in Bill,
- 26:43Speaker 1: we trust Nube. You switch, you switch coaching staff, and
- 26:47Speaker 1: the Jets win that game Sunday. There's no dub. You
- 26:50Speaker 1: don't have to switch a player because their quarterback didn't
- 26:52Speaker 1: play that much worse than yours did, Like he just
- 26:55Speaker 1: made stupid mistakes. That Mac Jones got away with Zach
- 26:59Speaker 1: Wilson um. But I think if you had the constant
- 27:03Speaker 1: browbeating that Bill Belichick would have, my guests would have,
- 27:08Speaker 1: you wouldn't have seen those balls thrown into Harm's way
- 27:10Speaker 1: like that. It's something to think about it. And I
- 27:12Speaker 1: think you need to remember that you're gonna face Bruce
- 27:14Speaker 1: Hall with this team a bunch. I mean, he's not
- 27:16Speaker 1: going anywhere. So this team is young, they have a
- 27:19Speaker 1: lot of talent. They maybe you know, they're not quite
- 27:21Speaker 1: there yet. They're making the mistakes, but as soon as
- 27:24Speaker 1: three weeks from now, it's it's we've got Romandre Stevenson.
- 27:28Speaker 1: That week I saw the forty nine as we're looking
- 27:30Speaker 1: to get you know, Alvin Kamara, they were had you know,
- 27:34Speaker 1: uh not the forty nine. What the I don't know
- 27:38Speaker 1: what you're talking. I think the Rams had feelers out
- 27:40Speaker 1: for Alvin Kamara um to the Saints, and I was thinking, well,
- 27:44Speaker 1: we don't need him because we've got Stevenson. I mean,
- 27:46Speaker 1: this guy, he's now doing it in the passing game.
- 27:49Speaker 1: He's doing the running game. Just let it go. Who
- 27:52Speaker 1: was looking for Alvin Kamara? Somebody was. I don't know,
- 27:55Speaker 1: but I would take Alvin Kamara over. Remind Stevens. I
- 27:57Speaker 1: don't know. Stevens is pretty good now he's getting better.
- 28:00Speaker 1: He's fine. I mean he is. He's the best player
- 28:02Speaker 1: in the team. I told you out a month ago.
- 28:03Speaker 1: You guys scoffed at not you. You scoffed at me.
- 28:06Speaker 1: I did never scoff at I don't think. And the
- 28:07Speaker 1: listeners scoffed at me. I didn't. I didn't scoff fred said,
- 28:12Speaker 1: Isaiah wit It left guard. You didn't, you didn't, scoff
- 28:14Speaker 1: at me, Mike Rope, I'm right. But he had almost
- 28:18Speaker 1: half of the Patriots offensive yards. That's what happens when
- 28:22Speaker 1: you don't get any offensive yards. No, he had like
- 28:23Speaker 1: one hundred and forty five or something like that. They
- 28:26Speaker 1: only had two hundred and eighty as a team now.
- 28:28Speaker 1: And that's and like the and the point is and
- 28:29Speaker 1: I think Paul and I both kind of highlight what
- 28:31Speaker 1: he ended, right, That's what happens when you don't get
- 28:33Speaker 1: any yards. One guy accumulates them, all right, And it's
- 28:36Speaker 1: him though you know it's him. It's I mean, it's
- 28:39Speaker 1: not like you could say, well, our offensive line is great.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Plug anybody in there, and they're going to pick up
- 28:42Speaker 1: these yards, breaking tackles at he's meeting guy, Guys are
- 28:45Speaker 1: meeting him in the hole. He's making a mess, he's
- 28:47Speaker 1: running over guys, he's breaking tackles. I mean, he's he
- 28:49Speaker 1: had at least three zero yard runs in that game
- 28:51Speaker 1: that were amazing runs. Zero yard runs. Yeah, so he's
- 28:55Speaker 1: been he's been playing great and they had fourteen plays
- 28:59Speaker 1: and minds. I don't understand what's going on with the
- 29:01Speaker 1: rest of the wide receivers. I don't understand. How can
- 29:04Speaker 1: it be? And I guess you know you got to
- 29:06Speaker 1: put it on Mac, But are they not getting open? Uh?
- 29:10Speaker 1: You know, Born played like half the snaps. How many
- 29:13Speaker 1: targets did he get? I mean, I didn't remember anybody. Yeah,
- 29:17Speaker 1: I don't either. I don't either. One, I don't even
- 29:21Speaker 1: remember he was out there half the time. Agalore one
- 29:24Speaker 1: Parker one, born one, Thornton two, Like, what's got your
- 29:29Speaker 1: your other four wide receivers. That's why I don't want
- 29:31Speaker 1: to trade any of them. I think they need them. Yeah,
- 29:33Speaker 1: you know, now it looks like Parker is going to
- 29:35Speaker 1: miss at least sometime. Um, you know, he might get
- 29:38Speaker 1: lucky with the bye week and maybe only miss a game.
- 29:41Speaker 1: But I mean that's basically two games because he played
- 29:44Speaker 1: one play in this game, right, So I think that's
- 29:47Speaker 1: why I felt like I did when I wrote the
- 29:49Speaker 1: you know, just hold on to them at some point.
- 29:52Speaker 1: If you're so now you're missing Parker, Let's say you're
- 29:54Speaker 1: missing Myers, who missed you know, a game earlier, right
- 29:59Speaker 1: with at least one game with with the knee injury.
- 30:01Speaker 1: I think Green Bay he missed. Yeah, so let's say
- 30:03Speaker 1: you know you got to be without him, you're gonna
- 30:07Speaker 1: need Agalore ye, And I don't know, like I'm very encouraged.
- 30:12Speaker 1: I'm very encouraged by Tae Kwon Thornton. As you guys
- 30:15Speaker 1: know from training camp. I haven't seen much around the
- 30:19Speaker 1: last couple of weeks now, right, He's gotten a lot
- 30:21Speaker 1: of opportunities. I didn't like that drop. The drop looked
- 30:25Speaker 1: like he was hearing footsteps a little bit. I'm not listen.
- 30:28Speaker 1: He's a kid, he's he's finding his way. I love
- 30:30Speaker 1: the skills. I'm not killing him. I'm just saying I
- 30:34Speaker 1: think myself included, I think people would just say, well,
- 30:37Speaker 1: he could just do the Agalore role because he's better
- 30:39Speaker 1: than a right He's he's fast, he can get downfield,
- 30:43Speaker 1: he can make big plays. But is he ready for that.
- 30:46Speaker 1: He might not be ready for that big of a role.
- 30:48Speaker 1: He might be more suited to what we kind of
- 30:50Speaker 1: thought heading into the year. Let's get him out there.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Let's give him some shots, see if he can make
- 30:54Speaker 1: some plays. I love the shot they took at him
- 30:57Speaker 1: in the Chicago game that unfortunately got a little pressure.
- 31:00Speaker 1: You got hit as he right as he was throwing.
- 31:02Speaker 1: It just missed, but he had a step. That's what
- 31:04Speaker 1: I want to see from Thornton. Give him some opportunities
- 31:06Speaker 1: down the field. I figured exactly what the play was,
- 31:08Speaker 1: but it was an agile or play coming towards us
- 31:10Speaker 1: where he got the ball behind the line of scrimmage.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Either it was the throw to him and it looked
- 31:14Speaker 1: like he had some speed and then he just kind
- 31:16Speaker 1: of ran right into like the blocking and fell down
- 31:18Speaker 1: Jets defense. I will say this for all the shots
- 31:21Speaker 1: that we've been taking at the Jets so far. You know,
- 31:23Speaker 1: through this first half hour, the Jets defense looked at me,
- 31:26Speaker 1: feel like, if you take a shots, I feel like
- 31:28Speaker 1: we could taking his shots to Zach Wilson desertly so.
- 31:30Speaker 1: But otherwise I have a lot of respect for that
- 31:31Speaker 1: their personnel. Yeah, I don't think that. I don't think
- 31:34Speaker 1: that was a flukey back to front. They're pretty good defense. Yeah,
- 31:37Speaker 1: I think that all the key pieces, you know, if
- 31:39Speaker 1: Jerremay Johnson turns into an elite pass rush and he's
- 31:42Speaker 1: kind and he's been he's been decent. He's just been
- 31:44Speaker 1: battling some injuries lately. He missed the last two games. Um,
- 31:48Speaker 1: he hasn't been great, but he's been okay. And I
- 31:51Speaker 1: think that they have the makings, like you know what
- 31:54Speaker 1: you watch fred Or is your thing. I'll save you
- 31:56Speaker 1: the line, And we haven't had it yet this week.
- 31:58Speaker 1: You know, they're very easy to defend. H Yeah, that's
- 32:02Speaker 1: what they looked like because the Jets had no respect
- 32:05Speaker 1: for that offense the other day they were out at
- 32:06Speaker 1: or around. It might made me think of it when
- 32:09Speaker 1: he talked about the like the screen to aggal Or,
- 32:11Speaker 1: it wasn't really a screen, but it was like a screen,
- 32:13Speaker 1: bubble screen kind of. You know. They tried one to
- 32:15Speaker 1: John H. Smith that Matt had a turf because they
- 32:17Speaker 1: blew it up. They were around the line of scrimmage,
- 32:20Speaker 1: you know, secondary guys were around the line of scrimmage
- 32:23Speaker 1: constantly making tackles. Sauce Gardner was was doing it and
- 32:28Speaker 1: it wasn't and they weren't getting burned. Yeah, right, because
- 32:31Speaker 1: they had no fear of getting beaten, beaten over the top,
- 32:34Speaker 1: and if they did get beaten over the top, they
- 32:36Speaker 1: I think that they were pretty confident that their front
- 32:38Speaker 1: four would not allow the time that it would take
- 32:41Speaker 1: to make those places. Yeah. I think I think the
- 32:42Speaker 1: issue for them also, to highlight, is like we got
- 32:45Speaker 1: to get Stevens into the ground, you know, like we
- 32:47Speaker 1: we have them, like don't let them just don't let
- 32:48Speaker 1: them get out of it. You know. That's but otherwise,
- 32:50Speaker 1: I uh, you know, I hate saying it that that
- 32:52Speaker 1: you have a lot of respect, but I mean you're
- 32:54Speaker 1: to your point, Paul. If you switch coaches, it's like
- 32:58Speaker 1: if Bill Belichick leaves soon you're not going to have
- 33:00Speaker 1: that advantage anymore. And you're looking at the Jets with
- 33:03Speaker 1: some serious talent. They they they are a team on
- 33:06Speaker 1: the rise, I think. But they got to figure out
- 33:07Speaker 1: Zach Wilson and if he's not right, then it's just
- 33:09Speaker 1: gonna stay right where it is. Receiving word a huge
- 33:13Speaker 1: huge trade. Um that took place doesn't involve the Patriots?
- 33:16Speaker 1: Yeah about it? Uh? T J Hawkinson going from the
- 33:20Speaker 1: Lions to the Vikings. Um, so he will get them
- 33:25Speaker 1: the rare opportunity to play as a non division game
- 33:28Speaker 1: against the Patriots twice. So share a huge deal with
- 33:31Speaker 1: the Vikings sending twenty twenty three second rounder in a
- 33:34Speaker 1: twenty twenty four fourth rounder for Hawkinson. Yes, yeah, so
- 33:42Speaker 1: yeah they get Ah, this is kind of confusing. A
- 33:47Speaker 1: second rounder in a fourth rounder in exchange for Hawkinson. Uh,
- 33:51Speaker 1: fourth rounder and a conditional fourth round. Well that's great
- 33:53Speaker 1: because you know the Patriots don't really under defend tight ends.
- 33:56Speaker 1: So well, so wow, well here's the thing they did
- 33:59Speaker 1: to end him very well, they took him out of
- 34:01Speaker 1: the game. Yeah. Um, but you're right. Pretty much every
- 34:06Speaker 1: other tight end otherwise is it's a lot of other
- 34:08Speaker 1: problems from the Minnesota to worry about complimentary receivers, you
- 34:12Speaker 1: might say, right, um, you know when IRF Smith has
- 34:16Speaker 1: been decent for them too, Um, who I kind of
- 34:18Speaker 1: liked out of that draft, he's been quiet. Do you
- 34:21Speaker 1: think I kind of like it's interesting, you know, so
- 34:24Speaker 1: the Bears they trade away their linebacker for a second
- 34:29Speaker 1: round pick in a fifth Do you think the Lions like,
- 34:32Speaker 1: look at that. We should be we should be doing
- 34:35Speaker 1: things like that right now. I don't think. I don't think,
- 34:38Speaker 1: you know, I think Hawkinson's a guy you should be
- 34:41Speaker 1: trying to build around. Now. I don't know. Maybe he's
- 34:43Speaker 1: a pain in the ass. Maybe he's tired of the
- 34:45Speaker 1: losing and he just wanted out, Like Roquan Smith, like
- 34:49Speaker 1: like the Robert Quinn, the Robert Quinn one for Chicago
- 34:52Speaker 1: makes all the sense in the world. He's a veteran guy.
- 34:55Speaker 1: He's not really of much use for you. He's not
- 34:57Speaker 1: going to be really a viable part of your rebuild.
- 35:01Speaker 1: But Roquan Smith could have been if you could have
- 35:04Speaker 1: come together, And I think T. J. Hockinson could have
- 35:06Speaker 1: been in Detroit. Those are a little bit different to me,
- 35:10Speaker 1: but that's a that's a big trade for the Vikings.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Vikings of six and one, even though I know I
- 35:15Speaker 1: think about this much and I have my fingers more
- 35:18Speaker 1: of them than I do the Jets. I think they're
- 35:20Speaker 1: extremely lucky every week, but there's six on one. Bottom line,
- 35:22Speaker 1: I got talented number five spot in the Power rankings.
- 35:25Speaker 1: I mean, I think that Roquan Smith move is good,
- 35:27Speaker 1: good one for the Baltimore especially. I think you're Baltimore
- 35:29Speaker 1: right now. You're looking like we're not quite Kansas City Buffalo,
- 35:32Speaker 1: but you're right there, and you know, maybe you need
- 35:34Speaker 1: somebody to deal with those two guys a little bit.
- 35:36Speaker 1: That's a good move. So you know, our guy Elaine Poopa,
- 35:39Speaker 1: who talks to us all the time for Miami, he
- 35:41Speaker 1: had a funny tweet. He was like, you know, really
- 35:45Speaker 1: really good work done by the scheduling department for Miami.
- 35:48Speaker 1: They played Balton well before they got Roquan Smith, and
- 35:50Speaker 1: they played Chicago after they traded Roquan. Funny those Chicago
- 35:54Speaker 1: beats the Patriots and they're like, wep, that's it. We're
- 35:57Speaker 1: done down everybody. Not that it's neither hitting nor there.
- 36:02Speaker 1: I wonder if the Patriots unlocked something with Justin fields.
- 36:05Speaker 1: I thought he looked better against Dallas than I've seen
- 36:08Speaker 1: him last four or five games. He looks like he's
- 36:12Speaker 1: sort of starting to piece some things together and show
- 36:15Speaker 1: a little bit. His numbers are still terrible. I didn't
- 36:17Speaker 1: did they run him a lot? I mean, that's what
- 36:19Speaker 1: I said going into the game. Why aren't they given
- 36:20Speaker 1: him the Lamar treatment? They gave him the Lamar treatment
- 36:22Speaker 1: against US and they got Yeah. I don't know how
- 36:25Speaker 1: much he ran by design because I didn't see the game,
- 36:28Speaker 1: but I mean they scored twenty nine points. Yeah, so
- 36:31Speaker 1: you know they got blasted. They lost forty nine twenty nine.
- 36:34Speaker 1: The game was never closed. But I think he was
- 36:36Speaker 1: a little bit better in that game than he has
- 36:39Speaker 1: been for the balance of the season. All Right, eight
- 36:42Speaker 1: five five past five hundred is the eighth Stiket hot line,
- 36:45Speaker 1: Web Radio straight is the email address, and if anything
- 36:50Speaker 1: else happens then you know the Trade Front will be
- 36:52Speaker 1: sure to mention that on the show. Um, four o'clock
- 36:56Speaker 1: is the deadline. So yeah, I wanted to get my
- 36:59Speaker 1: notes up as block tonight. You might know if I
- 37:02Speaker 1: wanted to get my my notes up as quickly as
- 37:04Speaker 1: I possibly could, so people could read it before they
- 37:06Speaker 1: actually made a trade and made it all a moot point.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Vic Carrucci says, Julius Peppers might be Mike. Mike, you
- 37:13Speaker 1: probably don't get that. Uh, it wasn't trade for Peppers
- 37:17Speaker 1: was imminent. He was actually on the show physically. Oh
- 37:20Speaker 1: really Yeah, and he's like, I'm telling you yeah, and
- 37:24Speaker 1: it didn't happen. Uh, sources are wrong. U. Let's go
- 37:28Speaker 1: to Anthony in Seattle. What's up? Anthony on the stickin
- 37:33Speaker 1: Good Good Sure, Hey, I was calling because I got
- 37:38Speaker 1: to say I'm loving the Andy Hart cameos on the show. Yeah,
- 37:43Speaker 1: and it got me thinking, and so I was I
- 37:46Speaker 1: was curious, So I called curious, a little bit of
- 37:49Speaker 1: a peek behind the curtain, if you if you would,
- 37:52Speaker 1: if you would, I was curious, though, how did it
- 37:55Speaker 1: work with you guys in terms of Okay, you guys
- 37:58Speaker 1: are I guess you're media personalities or I'm not sure
- 38:02Speaker 1: what your titles are. We literally work for the team,
- 38:06Speaker 1: So don't you know you starting your week? Do you guys?
- 38:10Speaker 1: Are you guys like just kind of paid a salary
- 38:12Speaker 1: and then you get to like there's no money like
- 38:14Speaker 1: self govern like, okay, I'm gonna make this many radio appearances,
- 38:17Speaker 1: this many TV appearances or do you have like a
- 38:19Speaker 1: quota that you like kind of got to meet each
- 38:22Speaker 1: week and then like a situation like where like Andy,
- 38:25Speaker 1: I assume it seemed like he was kind of just
- 38:27Speaker 1: you guys saw him outside of the studio, you kind
- 38:29Speaker 1: of just weighed him. All. That's all that was. Yeah,
- 38:31Speaker 1: so real quick Anthony. Andy does a quick hit for
- 38:36Speaker 1: his actual job after the press conferences on Wednesdays. He
- 38:42Speaker 1: works now for w EI, which is one of the
- 38:44Speaker 1: all sports stations of Boston, one of the two all
- 38:46Speaker 1: sports stations. So he comes into the radio studio. We
- 38:49Speaker 1: have two separate radio studios in our area, so he
- 38:52Speaker 1: comes in onto one of the radio studios, he does
- 38:54Speaker 1: a quick hit, and while he's here, we flag him
- 38:57Speaker 1: in and have him come on and do a segment
- 38:58Speaker 1: with us. That's all that is. Nothing that's scheduled or
- 39:01Speaker 1: anything like that. It just kind of happened. So something
- 39:04Speaker 1: like that is that. And again I'm not trying to
- 39:06Speaker 1: fry anything. I'm just get by us. No, No, he
- 39:12Speaker 1: has to pay us, right because we're actually helping his radio.
- 39:16Speaker 1: He gets paid by w EI to do the spot
- 39:18Speaker 1: that he did, we have more listeners, so it helped that.
- 39:21Speaker 1: It helped me. That's that's fact. So I'm guessing something
- 39:24Speaker 1: like that. The thing that's in it for him is
- 39:26Speaker 1: to continue to like just fun. Yeah, it's he enjoys it.
- 39:31Speaker 1: It's just just for fun. Yeah, well friends like he
- 39:33Speaker 1: wouldn't do like he if there was like three guys
- 39:36Speaker 1: in here that he didn't know. I don't think he
- 39:38Speaker 1: would like even look twice. Like a lot of times
- 39:41Speaker 1: I'll be down here on Mondays when EI is in
- 39:43Speaker 1: the studio and I don't even look twice at them
- 39:45Speaker 1: because I don't have any interest in joining them, right
- 39:48Speaker 1: because I don't really you know, I'm not all that
- 39:50Speaker 1: familiar with all these shows and personnel. Did he come on?
- 39:55Speaker 1: Because mostly I was thinking more fun. Then I'm like
- 39:58Speaker 1: somebody like me who I always loved Andy Howard part
- 40:01Speaker 1: of this part of the show. I'm loving the cameos.
- 40:03Speaker 1: I'm thinking, well, what's in it or what incentive does
- 40:05Speaker 1: he have to come back and do that, you know,
- 40:07Speaker 1: because it's been like what three times in six or
- 40:10Speaker 1: eight games in the season, so it's like, oh, it's
- 40:12Speaker 1: kind of nice, but it's just for fun, just having fun.
- 40:15Speaker 1: He's in the neighborhoods who stops by? Yeah, yeah, well
- 40:18Speaker 1: thank you guys, all right, thanks, Anthony Sausage gets made. Yeah,
- 40:21Speaker 1: the scenes here, well, of course when I do my
- 40:24Speaker 1: freelance stuff. That's all go on. Williams and philam, what's up,
- 40:27Speaker 1: William How are you doing for it? What's going on?
- 40:30Speaker 1: All right? Doing? All right? All right? Uh? Question? Um
- 40:35Speaker 1: the respective pictures to do something. I hear about all
- 40:39Speaker 1: the calls they're getting. But is they bring in somebody
- 40:43Speaker 1: in the house. I doubt it. I think maybe they
- 40:46Speaker 1: might ship, but like ship win for say a win,
- 40:50Speaker 1: but I don't know what you're gonna get for that
- 40:52Speaker 1: conditional seventh. No, I'm not talking about pigs play they think,
- 40:57Speaker 1: so yeah, unless they tried to get some offensive line reinforcements,
- 41:01Speaker 1: which is David Andrews being injured and some of the
- 41:03Speaker 1: interior guys. I mean, well that's the thing. Like you
- 41:06Speaker 1: wonder how you know Belichick and Matt grow view the season.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Is it worth it to give up draft capital to
- 41:14Speaker 1: get a guy who you think can help you this year?
- 41:18Speaker 1: You know? And that's why I kind of say, yeah,
- 41:22Speaker 1: that's right. Like to Paul's point, it's like you need
- 41:24Speaker 1: an offensive guard. Well, you're gonna trade Isaiah Win away
- 41:27Speaker 1: and then bringing another tackle who you think is going
- 41:29Speaker 1: to be better than that, which is fine if you do,
- 41:31Speaker 1: like you want to a shuffle and chairs on the
- 41:33Speaker 1: done the Titan. And again if if the idea with
- 41:36Speaker 1: moving Win is because you think he's a problem, and
- 41:39Speaker 1: I have seen no evidence that he's a problem. But
- 41:41Speaker 1: if he is, they know that the coaches understand what's
- 41:45Speaker 1: going on, the dynamic they have, they might need a
- 41:48Speaker 1: that they might need to make a change you're not
- 41:50Speaker 1: going to have. Then you know, a fifth or sixth
- 41:53Speaker 1: round is better than nothing. Yeah, I mean, especially because
- 41:56Speaker 1: it was Reese too. I mean when I was reading
- 41:57Speaker 1: Reese's things, I'm imagining him do what he does and
- 42:00Speaker 1: sking Isaiah Win those questions and Isaiah Win throwing the
- 42:02Speaker 1: you know, throwing the window down like that. Just just
- 42:05Speaker 1: just wanted to ask noope running to give him a
- 42:09Speaker 1: little right. I don't know that that struck me my face,
- 42:15Speaker 1: you know. And again like just you come right in
- 42:17Speaker 1: and your first play you just get absolutely walked right
- 42:20Speaker 1: into the lap of the quarterback. It's just it's like
- 42:22Speaker 1: it's how do you keep putting them out there. It
- 42:24Speaker 1: was bad. And you know, France, I saw sixty five
- 42:26Speaker 1: going sideways a couple of times and cold strange, you know,
- 42:30Speaker 1: it was they were having trouble. But those guys, especially
- 42:34Speaker 1: inside like Quentnin Williams is a beast, and I'm just
- 42:39Speaker 1: saying they better trouble. You better be ready for this
- 42:41Speaker 1: week too, because now you have DeForest Buckner. But when
- 42:43Speaker 1: you when you're it's pretty good too. When your line
- 42:46Speaker 1: is playing well and you play against guys like quinnin Williams,
- 42:49Speaker 1: you figure it out. You figure out how to double team.
- 42:52Speaker 1: You figure out you got to be in sync. You know,
- 42:53Speaker 1: you gotta be inc you know, and you and you
- 42:56Speaker 1: manage it. You manage it. You know. The Patriots have
- 42:58Speaker 1: been in the situation before where they've played against really
- 43:01Speaker 1: good defensive lines, and you know, Scar would figure out, okay,
- 43:04Speaker 1: this is how we're going to do that. And they're
- 43:06Speaker 1: playing together and they you know, they don't win every battle,
- 43:09Speaker 1: but they win the majority of them, or at least
- 43:11Speaker 1: give the quarterback enough time to execute the play. Yeah.
- 43:15Speaker 1: You know, um, well, I I connected to you know
- 43:18Speaker 1: in at point of pause, which I think is you know,
- 43:20Speaker 1: just an example of you know, a guy who's not
- 43:23Speaker 1: like digging into PF numbers, but watching the games and
- 43:26Speaker 1: seeing that, you know, David Andrews is a big help
- 43:29Speaker 1: to col Strange and you know there's nothing wrong with
- 43:31Speaker 1: that when they're playing well. I think the line all
- 43:32Speaker 1: needs to play together. But we saw, Yeah, you lost
- 43:35Speaker 1: one guy in David Andrews, but you're really kind of
- 43:38Speaker 1: lost too because now Cole Stranger is kind of on
- 43:40Speaker 1: an island and you know needs a little bit more help.
- 43:42Speaker 1: So you get to this point in the season, you're
- 43:45Speaker 1: trying to find your identity and some cohesiveness, especially upfront
- 43:48Speaker 1: where early on and you know it's out of sync
- 43:50Speaker 1: a little bit, you're blowing coverages. I mean, we saw
- 43:52Speaker 1: it this year. Guy's free runners. At least we're not
- 43:54Speaker 1: seeing free runners. I mean now the free runners are
- 43:55Speaker 1: just coming right through our tackles instead of you know,
- 43:57Speaker 1: not being blocked at all. But you know, I think
- 44:00Speaker 1: that that's a big, big part of the element of it.
- 44:02Speaker 1: We gotta you know, get David Andrews back in there,
- 44:04Speaker 1: and you know, just I think this team needs to
- 44:06Speaker 1: really think about this offensive line this offseason and how
- 44:08Speaker 1: to get that in order a great I mean, you
- 44:10Speaker 1: get a guy like John Franklin Myers too. I was
- 44:12Speaker 1: just looking up because I didn't remember like a fourth
- 44:14Speaker 1: round pick in eighteen. Like that's that's a good that's
- 44:19Speaker 1: a good draft pick. He's a good player. I mean,
- 44:21Speaker 1: I'm not saying he's like Aaron Donalds or anything, but
- 44:23Speaker 1: he's a good player. Let's go to Chris and Fort Lauderdale. Hey, Chris, Hey, guys,
- 44:29Speaker 1: how are you doing good? Yeah? I guess not anymore?
- 44:34Speaker 1: Do you actually wish people happy? Holloway? I got like
- 44:37Speaker 1: ten people last night in my house, the whole night. Really, Yeah,
- 44:40Speaker 1: what are you gonna do with all the candy? Very
- 44:42Speaker 1: low night? I I I didn't get anyone you know
- 44:45Speaker 1: in our house. Because you don't you're not very welcome.
- 44:48Speaker 1: A very long road to get up. There's very welcoming.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Like I even forgot. I don't even think we had
- 44:52Speaker 1: any candy in the house. I would have had to
- 44:54Speaker 1: give him, like, you know, a soap and a string.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Here's some pa, What do I do with this? Will
- 45:00Speaker 1: you see? You'll never run? So sorry, Chris, we just hill.
- 45:06Speaker 1: I'm glad no one got any watch McCalls this year. Yeah,
- 45:09Speaker 1: that's wrong. Um. I had a report for Fred and
- 45:16Speaker 1: then a question for the group. Okay, Um, Fred. The
- 45:19Speaker 1: other day I called in about you Guys being the
- 45:21Speaker 1: original podcast and how my friends gave me a hard
- 45:24Speaker 1: time about it, and a segment of the show for
- 45:27Speaker 1: my friend and all taught and are actually big fans
- 45:31Speaker 1: of you guys because they thought you guys were hilarious.
- 45:33Speaker 1: So that was kind of cool. Great for that nice.
- 45:36Speaker 1: I know. Mike says like, I wonder how that's gonna go,
- 45:38Speaker 1: and it went really well. I didn't expect to, so
- 45:41Speaker 1: UM the question, and I agree that asking um trying
- 45:45Speaker 1: to trade for a piece like a wide receiver or
- 45:47Speaker 1: you know, a big offensive piece doesn't seem worth it
- 45:50Speaker 1: this offseason or um this trade deadline. But is there
- 45:54Speaker 1: worth in adding to the offensive line and is there
- 45:56Speaker 1: any way to make that happen? Um? That would be
- 45:59Speaker 1: my question, and they'll take off the air. I just
- 46:01Speaker 1: can't believe that, you know, any team that has a
- 46:04Speaker 1: good tackle wants to get rid of right, you'd have
- 46:07Speaker 1: to look at a bad to middling team that has
- 46:12Speaker 1: a good tackle that's contract is expiring. That's the only
- 46:15Speaker 1: and I everything has to line up like yeah, and
- 46:18Speaker 1: you know, I'm not like, like, let's say, if there
- 46:20Speaker 1: was like a Trent Williams on a bad team something
- 46:24Speaker 1: like that. You know, he's kind of always just grumbled,
- 46:27Speaker 1: you know, but he's a big part of what they
- 46:29Speaker 1: do now, so and he's not going anywhere. I wouldn't think.
- 46:33Speaker 1: So that's what you need to look for. But I
- 46:35Speaker 1: don't know, I think it's and you gotta also have
- 46:38Speaker 1: a quarterback you don't like, because like you trade your
- 46:42Speaker 1: starting tackle midway through the season, and what is that
- 46:44Speaker 1: saying to your quarterback? Yeah, I know when I just
- 46:47Speaker 1: I think this is a long term problem and something
- 46:49Speaker 1: that they need to like get into place, and you're
- 46:51Speaker 1: not going to get a long term fixed really. I mean,
- 46:54Speaker 1: you know, maybe you trade for a guy and then
- 46:55Speaker 1: you extend them, but that just it seems like a
- 46:57Speaker 1: lot I think. I mean, I think it's going to
- 46:59Speaker 1: be about the drest and you're really trying to find
- 47:01Speaker 1: some new tackles that that you know can be up
- 47:03Speaker 1: and coming. I mean, even this, you know, kids Stuber
- 47:05Speaker 1: next year, I'll be like on waiting with bated breath
- 47:07Speaker 1: to watch Andrews Stuber to come out of the tunnel
- 47:10Speaker 1: to be like anything anything, please, But yeah, Paul shakes
- 47:13Speaker 1: his head. That was a fair guy. This is not
- 47:16Speaker 1: a YouTube show. I just know I didn't mean coming
- 47:19Speaker 1: back to some people. I don't think you don't know.
- 47:22Speaker 1: I thought you were shaking your head as it saying
- 47:23Speaker 1: he's never going to be good. That that was. That's
- 47:25Speaker 1: what I was shaking my head at, because that's what
- 47:27Speaker 1: I've been told. He's not like necessarily thought of as
- 47:30Speaker 1: a as a young prospect. Jason Hines they have some
- 47:34Speaker 1: hope for Yeah, all right, Well, although that was weird,
- 47:37Speaker 1: like you need it, you know, so you you lose
- 47:39Speaker 1: some a layer of depth at center, and Jason Hines
- 47:44Speaker 1: can play center and he's active every week. And all
- 47:48Speaker 1: of a sudden, you was David Andrews and David and
- 47:51Speaker 1: Jason Hines goes on IR right when Yadneyka just gets
- 47:54Speaker 1: activated off I r and then you have to promote
- 47:57Speaker 1: Cody Russy from the practice squad. But Russy, I don't
- 48:00Speaker 1: know if all right? That whole thing was weird. Yeah, timing,
- 48:06Speaker 1: it's always weird. Of those guys you haven't seen or
- 48:08Speaker 1: hurt anything of all of a sudden end up on
- 48:09Speaker 1: an air, all right, lots of emails at web radio
- 48:12Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com, so let's go to some of them.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Jackson and Aubrey says, standing six five and having been
- 48:18Speaker 1: one of the most athletic offensive linemen at the NFL combine,
- 48:21Speaker 1: Cole Strange has both the length and the nimble feet
- 48:24Speaker 1: to play right tackle. Why don't the Patriots try moving
- 48:27Speaker 1: Strange to right tackle and moving Isaiah went to left guard.
- 48:31Speaker 1: The results couldn't be worse than what we have been
- 48:33Speaker 1: seeing so far this season. Something must be done. Yeah,
- 48:37Speaker 1: I mean, I think again you're weakening two spots. I mean,
- 48:39Speaker 1: I think he's a guard. He's played inside his whole.
- 48:42Speaker 1: I mean he can play some center maybe, but I
- 48:44Speaker 1: think you're just asking too much of him. Let him,
- 48:46Speaker 1: let him get settled left guard, and you know, get
- 48:48Speaker 1: Andrews back in. He's been solid this year. I mean,
- 48:51Speaker 1: he's a rookie, but I still think, you know, everybody
- 48:54Speaker 1: who probably wants him to, you know, come right in
- 48:56Speaker 1: and be perfect. He hasn't been that. But I still
- 48:58Speaker 1: think that the arrow points up with him long term.
- 49:00Speaker 1: And I think between him and on, when you you've
- 49:02Speaker 1: got two really good guards that are you know, a
- 49:04Speaker 1: kind of a complimentary pair with on when you be
- 49:07Speaker 1: in the road greater and you know, strange being really
- 49:09Speaker 1: athletic and really snarly, which I love. He's gonna need
- 49:13Speaker 1: some time. I think next year offseason, bulk him up
- 49:15Speaker 1: a little bit, get a little bit of weight on him.
- 49:17Speaker 1: I think those are some of the problems he has
- 49:19Speaker 1: handling some of that NFL power. He saw it against
- 49:21Speaker 1: the Jets with those two guys who are just beasts, Yeah,
- 49:24Speaker 1: Addison and Fresno. Wright saying, I wanted to raise the
- 49:27Speaker 1: point that the Patriots actually were better off for attempting
- 49:31Speaker 1: both of the fourth downs than kicking two field goals
- 49:33Speaker 1: in the red zone. Kicking two field goals with automat
- 49:36Speaker 1: nick would have been would have given six points, and
- 49:39Speaker 1: going for both fourth downs resulted in one touchdown, good
- 49:42Speaker 1: for seven points. I personally wanted the Patriots to kick
- 49:45Speaker 1: in both cases because you can beat the Patriots with
- 49:48Speaker 1: your kicker. That said, the aggressive play did result in
- 49:52Speaker 1: an extra point. Put me down for team zappy. If
- 49:55Speaker 1: it'll help Paul's pedal growth, Paul Ken, your pole still grow? No,
- 50:02Speaker 1: I think that's that's tapped out. What what did I miss? Nothing? Uh,
- 50:08Speaker 1: let's talk about cold strings. Somebody want to move Cole
- 50:09Speaker 1: Strange a right tackle? Um, I said no after that game? No, no,
- 50:13Speaker 1: thank you. H oh wow we get unvarnished deuce coming
- 50:17Speaker 1: off the COVID fog. Yeah. I know. I'm just unleashed
- 50:20Speaker 1: in my room. I got thoughts about the Patriots. I
- 50:22Speaker 1: want to share them. Yeah. I wouldn't completely say never
- 50:25Speaker 1: with cold Strange moving to tackle, but I don't think
- 50:27Speaker 1: this is the time. No. I think he's struggling guard.
- 50:30Speaker 1: That's like a next season thing. Maybe if you even
- 50:34Speaker 1: think he can do it right, because you might need
- 50:35Speaker 1: two tackles next year. Yeah. David writes in do you
- 50:39Speaker 1: think the Patriots as a team have reached their potential
- 50:42Speaker 1: for the season. It seems like they need to win
- 50:44Speaker 1: a certain way and haven't figured out how to win
- 50:46Speaker 1: games that don't follow a pattern. Based on the remaining schedule,
- 50:50Speaker 1: will we see this team play better than expected or
- 50:53Speaker 1: put together a complete game? Uh? I mean I'm not
- 50:58Speaker 1: gonna say firmly yes or no. I mean I still
- 51:00Speaker 1: have some confidence. I mean I think in the defense,
- 51:02Speaker 1: I think they're good defense. I'm not going to say
- 51:04Speaker 1: that they're a great defense right now, but I think
- 51:06Speaker 1: on any given night, save for a couple of teams,
- 51:08Speaker 1: that defense can can keep you in games, which just
- 51:11Speaker 1: about everybody. I mean, look at the parody in the
- 51:13Speaker 1: league this year. I mean, is there really other than
- 51:15Speaker 1: maybe four or five teams, any team that you don't
- 51:17Speaker 1: think they got no shot against. I mean, there's only
- 51:20Speaker 1: a few good teams this year. Yeah, unfortunately many many
- 51:23Speaker 1: of them are on the schedule of the second half.
- 51:25Speaker 1: But I think, you know, the Raiders, the Raiders look
- 51:28Speaker 1: a little bit different. The Cardinals look a little bit different. Yeah,
- 51:30Speaker 1: I'd be curious to see with those two teams. See,
- 51:32Speaker 1: I didn't think they look really especially the Cardinals. I'd
- 51:36Speaker 1: be curious to see what those teams look like against
- 51:37Speaker 1: the Patriots though, well, well it's Kyler Murray and the
- 51:41Speaker 1: mobile quarterback stuff that that's been a big problem m
- 51:44Speaker 1: But I still think it comes down to your game
- 51:47Speaker 1: against the Jets, beating Miami again, how you know, I
- 51:50Speaker 1: don't like, I don't know, I don't know how much
- 51:52Speaker 1: confidence you're gonna have in that beat Miami. Well, I
- 51:55Speaker 1: think that's the step to take. I mean, I think
- 51:56Speaker 1: that's the bar for me. I'm not really holding not
- 51:59Speaker 1: hope much again Buffalo. But I think for the Patriots
- 52:01Speaker 1: to like get out of this kind of funk that
- 52:04Speaker 1: they've been in. I get the total point. I've made
- 52:06Speaker 1: it a one hundred times myself that there's a formula
- 52:08Speaker 1: for this team and that's how they kind of have
- 52:09Speaker 1: to win. And yeah, last week in the second half
- 52:12Speaker 1: it was on full display. But to get to that
- 52:14Speaker 1: next point, you knock off Miami here at the end
- 52:16Speaker 1: of the season. I think that that would be, you know,
- 52:18Speaker 1: a nice step, whether the playoffs or in the mix
- 52:20Speaker 1: or not. It would depend to me on what Miami
- 52:23Speaker 1: looks like at the time. But if they look like
- 52:25Speaker 1: they look right now, yeah, I would agree with everything
- 52:27Speaker 1: Mike just said. But it's tough. It's tough. Are they
- 52:29Speaker 1: won't look like that and you know, and we'll see
- 52:32Speaker 1: that that's a long way off. Both teams won't look
- 52:35Speaker 1: the same, you know, because they'll lose a lot of
- 52:36Speaker 1: players between now and then. And that's the point. I mean,
- 52:38Speaker 1: I know Evan Evan, I was texted with him this morning.
- 52:41Speaker 1: I mean, he's all hot and bothered by them running
- 52:42Speaker 1: our pos. I mean, to him, just them running our
- 52:44Speaker 1: pos is like reset that the trajectory of like what
- 52:47Speaker 1: they could possibly do. I'm not there yet, but I
- 52:51Speaker 1: do just at least. I mean, how can it not
- 52:53Speaker 1: get better this year? Like every year we've talked too.
- 52:57Speaker 1: Thinks that's the key to unlockable. He well, he likes it.
- 52:59Speaker 1: He just likes. I'm not saying it's the key to unluxus,
- 53:01Speaker 1: but he likes that. He thinks they should do more
- 53:03Speaker 1: of that kind of thing. I'll let him speak for
- 53:05Speaker 1: himself tomorrow. I'm not gonna lie. I'm probably not gonna
- 53:07Speaker 1: be paying attention that that's disrespectful. It's not disrespecting. Hangs
- 53:13Speaker 1: on every one of your words, Paul. He doesn't. He
- 53:16Speaker 1: doesn't have any respect whatsoever for any of the opinions
- 53:18Speaker 1: I have. It's pretty clear. But anyway, oh wow, how
- 53:22Speaker 1: did trash talk? It's just like going on because they
- 53:25Speaker 1: all twenty two guys don't respect the guys that don't
- 53:27Speaker 1: do that. It's it's pretty clear, like, let me tell
- 53:30Speaker 1: you why you're wrong. It's basically the mantra of all
- 53:32Speaker 1: the guys that watch all twenty two like, but Dard like,
- 53:35Speaker 1: and I like Greg. I like him personally. I get
- 53:38Speaker 1: along with them very well. But he has to come
- 53:40Speaker 1: on Twitter. You say and say, I was as surprised
- 53:42Speaker 1: as you guys are. So another would you watch the
- 53:45Speaker 1: game and thought one thing and then you go and
- 53:46Speaker 1: do this all twenty two thing and you think something
- 53:48Speaker 1: one hundred percent different. Yes, that's ridiculous. Well not necessarily, Paul.
- 53:55Speaker 1: You're telling me that you watch a game and think
- 53:58Speaker 1: a guy's awful, then you watch a game m again
- 54:00Speaker 1: and you think the guy was great. That that can happen,
- 54:02Speaker 1: I don't I don't ever remember him saying he was great.
- 54:04Speaker 1: He said it was really good. No, yes, he did
- 54:07Speaker 1: said it wasn't as bad as it looks. That's not
- 54:09Speaker 1: what he said. And he said he was okay, he
- 54:11Speaker 1: was actually really good. Yeah is what he said. I
- 54:15Speaker 1: don't know. And again I read it too. And then
- 54:17Speaker 1: if you want, if you want to tell me that
- 54:18Speaker 1: there was a play that you thought, you watched the
- 54:21Speaker 1: replay and say, on second thought, I actually think he
- 54:24Speaker 1: did the right thing and someone else. That's that's exactly
- 54:26Speaker 1: that's holy possible. That's holy possible. That's what he was saying.
- 54:29Speaker 1: That's not what he said. He actually said it about
- 54:33Speaker 1: Jacoby Myers. He said that the pick looked more like
- 54:37Speaker 1: it was on Jacoby Myers and that he didn't know.
- 54:39Speaker 1: I read the whole thing. He doesn't know, He said
- 54:42Speaker 1: that can I can? I disagree on that one too,
- 54:44Speaker 1: I mean, I know, and he said, I think. And
- 54:47Speaker 1: my view of it was that I thought Mac had
- 54:49Speaker 1: Hunter Henry, like, no problem, easy completion. I thought to me,
- 54:53Speaker 1: what potentially could have happened? And again I have no idea,
- 54:55Speaker 1: but it seemed to me like Mac on the fly
- 54:58Speaker 1: been like, oh, there's no one behind you, so that way,
- 55:00Speaker 1: because it was wide open behind him. Um. I wondered
- 55:03Speaker 1: if it was more Mac just trying to improvise and
- 55:05Speaker 1: get Jacobe to improvise with him so that they couldn't
- 55:07Speaker 1: nail the touchdown. But I thought he had Hunter Henry
- 55:09Speaker 1: right away. I thought that was an easy, easy completion,
- 55:12Speaker 1: just to Hunter Henry. And I don't know why everyone's
- 55:14Speaker 1: overthinking it, and I don't know. I don't because I
- 55:16Speaker 1: don't know, unlike everybody else that does this, I don't
- 55:19Speaker 1: know what the play calls are and I don't know
- 55:20Speaker 1: what is supposed to happen on every right because even
- 55:23Speaker 1: the all twenty two people don't know that. But I
- 55:25Speaker 1: can just tell you if Myers was supposed to go
- 55:28Speaker 1: out on that play? Why was Michael Carter there to
- 55:33Speaker 1: pick the ball off? What do you mean, oh, on
- 55:36Speaker 1: this talking about the pick? On the pick okay, on
- 55:39Speaker 1: the pick six? Why was Michael Carter? Because he thought
- 55:42Speaker 1: he was going to go out too. He thought he
- 55:44Speaker 1: was gonna go out too because the Myers picked the
- 55:46Speaker 1: right leverage, you're saying to go the right way because
- 55:49Speaker 1: he ran away from Again, I don't know. Yeah, I
- 55:51Speaker 1: don't know what's supposed to though, But maybe that's just
- 55:54Speaker 1: one of those They have a good coverage here and
- 55:58Speaker 1: we're not going to throw it to Jacoby Myers because
- 56:00Speaker 1: they're sitting on it. I don't know. But everybody, I
- 56:03Speaker 1: shouldn't say everybody. Some people have completely absolved a quarterback
- 56:07Speaker 1: on that play and put it on Jacoby Myers. He's
- 56:09Speaker 1: supposed to go out there, and I don't really understand why.
- 56:12Speaker 1: If he's supposed to go out, there's a defender out
- 56:14Speaker 1: there who picked the pass off. Right. Again, I don't
- 56:18Speaker 1: know because I don't know what the calls are and
- 56:20Speaker 1: I don't pretend to try to figure it out. All right,

- 1:07:19Speaker 1: are you bad man? Yeah? One. I'm sure glad Belichick
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: didn't give up a second and fifth round pick for
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: Roquan Smith because I can't wait. Belichick used to that
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: second round pick for a special team player and fifth
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: round pick on a kicker. Oh boy, Um yeah, two,
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: you guys are not like that. Um, you guys are
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: not like that. You very objective on this subject. But
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: shows like the Greg Hill and Maz and Felger and

- 1:08:17Speaker 1: next year to see what he is. I have faith
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: in Mac. Okay whatever. Uh And he said, fred, I
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: hate this. Keep the silver pants at home until you go,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: uh full throwbacks, full time, which is coming sooner than later. Well,
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: I think he was drinking when he wrote that. That
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: was a poorly written. Somebody sent me a helmet with
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: like it's like the white helmet with the old red
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: and white striping down the middle. But then the flying
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Elvis on the sides. It was Yeah, I'd like to
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: see the mix. Yeah, I'd like to see that because
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: the Patriots still have an alternate jersey that they could use.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: You know, you're allowed to have you know, your your
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: home in a way, you're allowed a throwback and you're
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: out and altered it. Oh what let's go, let's can
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: we So you're saying that the table is there if
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: they wanted to put a new jersey into rotique, should
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: do it. You could do it, and not one that
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: you're talking about. Helmet. Yeah, yeah, well that would be
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: a third helmet. Well it's the same helmet, it's just
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: got a different decal. Yeah, well it's a it's like
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: you can mix the two. Yeah. You probably already have
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: the stickers. You don't even need to buy anything new,
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: right spray painting weight? Yeah, I see. Um someone in
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: the Bay Area glad Patriots got to win against the Jets.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: Part of me the thought the street could end prior
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: to the game. It may very well have ended if
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: the roughing the pass a penalty didn't negate the Patriots
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: jet picks the Jets pick six. That's what we all said. Anyway,
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: who are the five best players of the team right now.
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: If I had to rank them, I would say one
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: Jude On to Stevenson, three Myers, four Dugger and five mccordy.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: I don't know the four and five spots. Took me
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: a while to think of. Uh, i'd be different. I'm
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: with you on the top two. I'd probably put teatrich
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: Wise in there. I don't think. I don't think mccordy's
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: in there. Um, in terms of the way he's played
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: this year, I would agree that that Wise would be four. Yeah, Um,
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: I like Myers in there. Yeah, I like Myers at three.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: I would have Wives four, and I would probably Nicko. Yeah.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: I mean we're just talking about how they're playing this year.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: I mean I have just really scored sixteen year twenty two.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: I mean, Dugger's fine, He's up and down, he's down,
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: He's in and out of the lineup with injuries. I
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: think the tight end problems have been existing with him
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: in the lineup and with him out of the lineup. Yeah,
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: you'd like to see Barmore in that list, but he's
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: not right now. I don't think he's played great this year,
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: but I do think he was playing better when he
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: got hurt. Unfortunately, Yeah he was. Uh, Mike, you're so
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: right about Matt Shenanigans. If Brian burns leg pull the
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: sliding with the cleats up, the fake injury stuff has
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: to go. We need Mac the man, not Mac the
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: young boy in the modeling picture with tennis racket. Hey, Matt,
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: grow up and stuff. Our team needs to look up
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: and see a leader. Enough with the petulants. The Zappie
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: train in my heart has got a little cold cooking
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: on the engine. Still engine. Yeah, that was, you know,
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: coming out of the game. I was kind of just
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: on Mac for for reasons we've talked about, but but
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: that that stuff. I just play the game, you know,
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: don't don't try to get calls, don't try to do
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: little little tricky things like I remember play the game.
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: I think it was the Monday night cam Newton COVID
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: game in Kansas City that Mahomes kind of tried to
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: buy a call out of bounds like that. Then I
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: was like that, that's he's too good for that, right.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: I was like, you don't need that like that. I don't.
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: I don't shouldn't have to do that. You should be
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: able to say that we got out here and we
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: execute what we think we can do, will win. Not man,
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: we could really I mean, and I mean I guess
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: in a way I get it, Like you're you sure, dude,
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: you know the idea of looking for every little edge
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: you can get. No, not on the way he's doing it. No, No,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: I hated when he did it and he was the
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: greatest quarterback, saying like he used to do it, and
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: it looks to me so calculating, like the one where
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: we were talking about where it seemed like he was
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: literally knocked out for like a half a second and
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: then and then he pops up and he runs like
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: he's great to like offset any potential? Was he really hurt?
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: It's and the same thing when he was going on
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: to bounce, like he kind of pauses for a second,
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: like just focus on making the plays. And I'm probably
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: not as bothered by it as Mike is, but I
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: love the rant. But I would also wonder if some
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: of this, like you said it was kid, you used
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: the word calculated, And I'm wondering if maybe go back
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: to this whole how this whole thing started. And he's
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: like I'm hell bent on showing everybody how damn tough
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: I am. You know, So I'm gonna go down, but
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: I'm gonna pop up and exaggeratedly run back like there's
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: nothing wrong with me. You can't hurt me, Like I
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: don't need that. You your teammates know what you are.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: What do you care what anybody else thinks? Well, Joe
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: Burrow said it last night pregame. He said that one
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: of the things that he looked at was when Brady
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: got hit in two thousand and two or three, I
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: think against the Bills, when he got his helmet knocked off,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: and he was a kid watching that. He goes, That's
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: how I want to be. Heck, yeah, I don't want
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: to stay down. I want to get right back up right.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: And that's and I know it's just it's part of
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: your team's dynamic. You know, it's your team dynamic of
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: we believe in us, we can do what we have
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: to do. And that sends a message to me of
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: like we kind of need to get some calls, like
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: I really could really could benefit if I got a
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: fifteen yard or right now and that would help us score.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Like and it hasn't like I can't come up with
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: other examples off the top of my head, but there's
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: been other of this kind. It was like the day
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: after Christmas last year the Buffalo game, when there was
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: like did he get hit? Did he not? David Andrews
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: came over and got really upset about it. Remember it
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: was I think it was at the end of the
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: first half. He was completely trying to sell a call
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: and it might have been you know, in this like
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: we talked about that's the problem. Is this so inconsistent
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: with these calls. Maybe it was a call, maybe it
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: should have been a penalty, maybe it wasn't. But the
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: hue and cry like, oh I gotta get that call
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: every time, And I mean, I I don't know, I
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: just don't. I don't like it. Maybe maybe that's what
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: they all do, you know, because yeah, Fred's right, they
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: Brady used to do it all the time. I remember
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: all the time. I remember Bill, this is years ago.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: He was on the sideline coaching, and I forget what
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: team we were playing. It might have been the time,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: I forget, but anyway, one of their players got knocked
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: out of bounds on our sideline and Bill like immediately
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: stepped in front of the guy so it would take
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: him an extra second to get back on the field,
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: and I was like, wow, he thinks of everything. He
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: thinks of everything, Like what did he do? The play
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: was going on, the guy gets knocked out out of
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: bounds on our sideline and Bill stepped in front of
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: him so he couldn't get back on the field right away.
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: It was like it was like, I was like, wow,
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: he thinks of everything. You know, just said extra second
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: could make a difference. Yeah, I just like, I don't
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: know if it's all different. I don't say anything. I
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: don't know. I'm embarrassed by that. I I this stuff,
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: and like I said, the Brian Burns stuff last year,
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: I was kind of like, Oh, it's a rookie. He's
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: just in a pile. He doesn't really know the first
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: time something happened. You can, but when people start over again.
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: Am I gonna be watching this for ten years? Max,
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: I'll tell you used to get and I can't believe
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: it didn't get more attraction. It did live. I thought
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: he kicked the guy in the nuts against Chicago on purpose,
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: and I said it in the prices like that was dirty.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: Like I it just kind of like flew under the radar.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: No one really talked about it because of the mess
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: that ended up ensuing with with Zappie and Mac. Well,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: what about the philosophy or the mindset. I'm gonna slide
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: and if you're gonna jump on me, you're gonna get
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: a cleat in the face he was jumping over him. No,
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: I know, but like I'm putting my foot up to
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: keep you from hitting me when it's like a safety
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: issue to me, and I don't have anything. I'm just
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: saying that that might be his mindset. I just want
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: the mindset of I'm I'm gonna get play my ass
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: off and I'm gonna beat people with with my play
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: and not because you wouldn't have liked thy cos No,
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: what did thy Corda used to like? He used to
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: like jump in the air and spike guys, spike. I
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: mean this is war. I mean, who knows there's pictures
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: of it? Yeah I didn't know. Yeah, Um, just just
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: listen to a game with Bob Costas. He'll tell you
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: all about it, like on the radio back in the day,
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: or um a sicket hot line five five past five hundred.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: Let's go to Brandon in Oregon. What's up, Brandon? Hey,
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: what's going on you? Hey, I was just wondering you
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: guys may have covered this already, but the trade deadlines today, right, Yeah,
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: four o'clock. Give me your guys. The top three guys
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: do you think get moved? Well, we don't think anybody will,
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: but if they do, we think Win is number one.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: Agalore is could be one. But Paul makes a good point.
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: Why would you trade any of your receivers right now?
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: You know you don't eat them all, you need them all,
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: and you potentially could you know, Yeah, I wouldn't. I
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: would have been with Freddie. Um. Win would be probably
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: my number one mine. Yeah, I mean odds anyone on
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: the defensive side of the ball, or I would say
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: when and then born? Um anyone we acquire on the
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: on the defense. I mean, you know, like you look, okay,
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: where are they deep safety? But they've used all those
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: safe you know, Dugger's been in and out. Peppers got
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: hurt a little bit. I could see if Dugger was
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: playing great and those top three were just kind of solidified,
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: and Peppers was kind of chomping at the bit behind
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: the scenes. He's getting healthy after last offseason that you know,
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: maybe he has some kind of interest around the league.
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: As a guy who can do a bunch of things,
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: return punts, play special team, he would maybe he would
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: be three. But I agree with you, guys, and this
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: is what I like. I said, this is what I
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: wrote in the notes today, like I wouldn't trade any
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: of them, but maybe when born Peppers, if a team
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: wanted to give you a two for Zappie, would you
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: do it in a heartbeat? I think you even got
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Brandon to laugh. He could fall. I think Fred's here
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: to see if I can have a heart attack. Thanks Brandon,
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: Let's go to Brad and the Eastern Shore. Brad. Hey,
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: happy Tuesday, guys. Hey you're feeling better, mister douth, Thanks
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: appreciate it. I watched the entire game, as I have
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: for forty years. Um, nothing seems smooth when Mac is
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: on the field this year, and that's the only way
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: I can say it. I said it to my dad
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: last week at the beginning of the game, since he
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: was able to watch it on Monday Night's football. Nothing
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: is smooth, and I just don't understand how we can
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: just go week after week and it just doesn't change.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: I think du said that he's looking for something to
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: move the needle and we're just stuck in neutral. But
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: it's the smoothness. Everything is jerky. Everything is a grinds.
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: I say, it's a grind. Everything's a grind with the office,
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: And I mean it's like four point two yards of play,
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: and that's what you know, four yards four yards. I mean,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: it's just it's it's I mean they have they've had
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: some plays here and there. I mean Stevenson has made
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: the most of them. But I agree they got to
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: find a rhythm with that really plays designed the place
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: that he made. Yep, you know that's a good way
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: to put it, you know. Yeah, if we didn't have Remandre,
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: who I was so thrilled Fred when I came down
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: and met you in Atlanta last year. I got to
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: stop him on the street and talk to him for
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: about five minute. If we didn't have Remandra, right now,
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: I don't know where this team would be. And as
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: hard as as much as Paul is cringing right now
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: talking about a running back being the debut of a team,
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: I honestly don't know where we'd be without him. On offense,
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: you'd be four and four, boy, I don't see. How
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: do you think it won that game without reminder Stevenson
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: they had yet two days ago. Yep, because I'm assuming
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: everything happened the other way. Did everything happened the same
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: way because you took over in field goal range enough
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: times to win game? And if and I don't think
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: Fromondre Stevenson had anything to do with all the picks, No,
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: I don't. I mean, I mean, I just think that
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: there's also a psychological level of making no player. I'm
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: not taking anything away from Stevenson's effort in the game,
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: but I think they would have won the game. I
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: think Stevenson right now, they'd be they'd be two and six, okay,
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: because I think they'd be four and four. He has
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: single handedly carried that team down the field on a
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: number of occasions. He's been great. Hasn't done that many
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: times because they don't go down the field very many times.
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: I like Stevenson. I love Stevenson. I think he's the
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: best player on the team. I think it's illustrating how
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: much trouble I think they're in. Yeah, all right, Brad,
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: thank you. And by the way, I read Brad's father's blog,
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: and his father's blog said, you know that nothing is
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: smooth with Mac Jones, according to a source, So now
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: I know who the source was with bradis his dad's
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: gonna blog? I'm only kidding. Oh that was pretty good.
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: That's like two shows in a row. You got me, John,
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: You got there with the Tony Robbins thing last week.
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: John at Duxbury. What's up, John, gentleman? How are you? John? Hey? John? Yeah?
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: I want you. I want to talk about the Jets game.
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: But please tell me what team is stupid enough to
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: give up anything to have win. I don't think you
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: can find any team well to find anything. But here's
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: the thing. You know, you know when was the first
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: round pick, he was obviously a good player, you know
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: in Georgia and right, and you have these teams, and
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: the Patriots are one of them. Were like, we'll take
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: that guy and we'll make them. I would say that
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: there's a lot of that mindset and a team that's
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: really struggling on the offensive line. You know, I would
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: are like the Patriots, but like like like the Raiders
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: or like the Bengals, why wouldn't they say, you know,
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: we'll give you a conditional six. I think the Raiders
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: is a great one. They already took just in harun
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: and then he got hurt. So when just now, I
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: mean Fred's you know, I know, Fred was was poking
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: the bear a little bit to try to get a
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: rise out of me. I don't think they're gonna get
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: a first or second round pick or anything, but you know,
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: you could, You'll get a late you could get a
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: late round pick for him. Condition I'd be surprised. And
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: I want to give a thumbs up to a one
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: who I think he was the only one that didn't
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: give up a stack against the Jets. I don't think
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: he gave up a pressure either. Yeah, that's actually not
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: how you pronounced it anymore too. Yeah, I don't believe
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: that sound. I don't know. It was the most particular
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: wing ever. They pronounced it about six different ways during
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: the game, and then they told everybody that we've been pronouncing.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: They were like chuckling to themselves like it's actually on one,
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: you know what, Like it's some weird like they protected
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: they like ignored the end altogether. Like we say, when
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: you it's already been established, this is established law here
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: here three we're probably we're probably doing it wrong. But
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: by the time we need to learn. He won't be
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: a Patriot anymore anyway. So it's Chandler Jones handling shit.
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: That's only la Garrett Blount, those are all you problem.
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: Eldred's in North Carolina. Hey Eldred, Hey fellas like y'all
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: doing today? Hey, pol won't apologize done to the post
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: game A pre game I said the joke wrong. The
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: joke was, could we trade could we get a sucker
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: round for office court data? An office line? Coach? Oh
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: just was killing the Patriots right now, you know, because
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: you can't do both. You can't be collar and then
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: coach officers line, and you're getting beat like it every week.
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: I'm gonna be you ain't straightened up to line, you
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: ain't doing it. I'm gonna be suck up Pollie again, Fred?
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: You ready? Yeah? The guign because how do you think
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: the offensive line like they had a really bad first
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: game against Miami, and how do you think it was
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: like the next day five weeks started to get a
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: little better. It was okay, right yeah, and then you
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: look then you then you lose some personnel and you
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: have a really bad game against the Jets. Okay. And
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: the reason I say this is it wasn't Matt Patricia
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: who decided to trade or lose two of his starting
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: offensive lineman, And it wasn't Matt Patricia's fault that a
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: third one went down with injuries. So basically the line
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: that you had last year was without three starters on
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Sunday Shack Mason, Ted Carris and David Andrews. It Also,
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: I don't think was Matt Patricia's idea to switch your
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: tackles from right to left. That's okay. So the offensive
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: line is having some problems right now. They're injury related
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: and their personnel related, for sure. I'm like, is that
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: Matt Patricia's fault? Like, I know, I come off as
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: a suck up. I'm more concerned about different things than that.
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: I mean, I go back. I'm also concerned about to
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: play Colin and like Matt like he just like he
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: just scared to death. He's got taken to all the reas.
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: So I'm looking at Yeah, I worry more about the
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: quarterback then I do who's calling the plays, and I
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: worry more about the the I guess just the confidence
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: level in the quarterback. I was really shook by the
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: sequence of events after the pick six that was overturned.
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: I was like, I was like, we can't. You can't
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: play like that. Like, so the next play after the
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: pick six, they ran the ball down inside the five
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: and go call back for a Cole strange holding call
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: by the way, um so it ended up setting up
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: a long yard and situation dive dive, kneel on the ball, Like,
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: what are we doing with with with two time outs?
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: What are we doing We're not even trying to score
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: a touchdown. I think they were shook. I think they
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: were like, let's just take the three. They weren't. They
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: weren't as shook as I was. And we'll get the
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: ball to start the second. But are you better off, like,
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: like for the betterment of Mac Jones, aren't you better
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: off trying to figure out what what you know? What
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: can he do? Well? Maybe in that moment they saw
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: something I don't know, you know, like Key was rattled
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: a little. I don't know. I just think it's a
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: stark contrast too with like, and I know that different
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: offenses and all that when in different defenses, but like,
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: you know, when Zappie went in, like it looked functional,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: like in a way that I don't think it's looked
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: functional with Mac. Now is that on them and the
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: offenses and the play calls that they're doing. I don't know,
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: but at least shows me that somewhere in there there's
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: a functional offense that looks like the one I had
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: my whole rant about. Like some guys, some guys just
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: get breaks. Some guys, you know, through no fault to
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: their own, things happen, good fortune follows them. I think
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: this is an example of it. Everybody you know just said,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: you know, it's Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago, stiff, stiff, stiff, except
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: for one of those three stiffs had the third ranked
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: past defense in football, Chicago. That's what Matt got to
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: start against. Followed by the Jets. Yeah. Oh, I don't
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: care what anyone says. That's a good defense. I watched
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: them on Sunday. That was good defense. I think. Listen,
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: I'm not like telling you Mac Jones is the next star,
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: because you guys know, I don't think that. But I
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: think if Bailey Zapp he played on Sunday, it would
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: have been similar. It could have been double digit sacks
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: in four or five turnovers. Yeah, because I think Mac
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: made you know, a lot of good plays to avoid
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: disasters now, Paul in the dark camp. Yeah, but I
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: didn't tell I didn't tell you that I saw. I
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: thought he was a disaster. When I watched the game,
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: I saw the third down conversions, and we talked about
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: this in the post game. I'm a little hurt that
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: you didn't listen to the post game, but that's okay.
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: We talked about the third down conversions. Now they completely
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: went away. Where I cut ties with the pro offense
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: crowd is somehow there's this notion that they got it
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: all together at the half and came out it got
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: worse in the second half. They didn't convert any third
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: downs in the second half. I think they were six
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: for nineteen in the game, and I think all of
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: them came in the first half. They had one hundred
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: and twenty yards of offense in the second half, and
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: that was despite taking over constantly on the jet side
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: of the field. The only reason why they scored points
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: is because of the way they were getting the ball.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: If they had gotten the ball at their own twenty
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: would have had more yards because they didn't have the opportunity. No,
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: they were going three and out. Every possession of they
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: would have lost. If they took over on their own
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: twenty This is what I'm talking like. They Mac Jones
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: faced a much much more difficult task on Sunday than
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: Bailey's Appy did in Cleveland. Oh Yeah, Ford and Savannah
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: Georgia Hello World, original podcast, Hello Back. You are also
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: the world's best podcast, hands down. Thank you. Do you
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: think max sophomore slump is a direct result of line
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: play from this in last year. I saw him take
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: a lot of hits last year like a champ, but
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: unfortunately they have continued this year, leading to two injuries.
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: My fears he is the making of a baby David
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: car scenario. Ps Belichick through the Bears game to get
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: a historic win against the Jets. I have a source
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: in the building. Since anyone can say that now, well,
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: uh yeah, he's just not seeing it. He doesn't look comfortable.
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: I don't know where to h no. And I mean
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: if you get pounded on, eventually, it's on the trust issue.
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: And when you see guys get beat you know, I mean,
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: it's one thing to have a mental lapse and you
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: allow a free rusher to come in those things. You know,
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: all right, that's a miscommunication. But when your guys are
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: just physically getting dominated. It's a lot more disconcerting to say, hey,
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: we can clean up when we just made a mental error.
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: But when you just simply can't compete physically with certain
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: guys off the edge. I mean that's you know, especially
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: where that's where you got guys screaming in. I mean,
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: it's off his blind side. I get it, I get
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: I just would like to see Mac have a little
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: bit more. Um. I don't think patience is the right word,
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: but having a little bit more pocket awareness to step up,
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: make a little shuttle subtle shuttle, little subtle shift here
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: to your right, find a guy and deliver the ball
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: and not you know, the second the pocket breaks down,
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: be looking to get out or panicking. One thing, I
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: was thinking about what he said. You know, at the
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: you know, when Big Daniels left, everybody was, you know, wondering,
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: oh will they bring in Bill O'Brien, And it seemed like,
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: you know, there was this courtesy to the out to
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: sabing that you know, I'm not going to pick him
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: off right now, but do you think that you know,
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: Patricia is just a placeholder until O'Brien comes next year.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: I think about that friend, I mean I think about
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: all those positions because I think, do you bring in
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: an offensive line coach? You know, do you do you say, hey,
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: you know, we're gonna take something off Patricius. You don't
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: bring in Bill O'Brien. Instead, you bring in a you know,
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: another offensive line coach to take some of that off
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: of his plate. You know, do you round out the
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: staff in that with the offensive staff in that way?
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: But I think it's a fair question, and then you know,
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: it's an acknowledgement of it. Did it not work in
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: twenty twenty two? Is that why you're making these changes now?
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: Did was that a poorly executed plan or a poorly
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: you know plan plan? Um? I don't know. I guess
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: we're gonna have to see, you know, kind of where
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: things end up. But it's like the bar is so
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: low right now with this offense that like it's not
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: hard for them to look maybe a little bit more
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: than competent at the end of the year and say,
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: all right, well they got better, it got better. They
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: look like they're on I actually think that there's been
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: signs that the offensive line, I mean, I'm sorry, the
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: offensive play calling situation has improved. I think they're I'm
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: always going to complain about individual calls. I think they've
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: grown way too reliant on that third and long draw
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: because it worked once, okay as an example, but it
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: ain't a penalty if they don't call it. Right the
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: fourth and one from the five good play design. You're
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: gonna get Hunter Henry to block Sas Gardner in the
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: end zone so Jacoby Myers can leak into the flat.
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: It ain't a penalty if they don't call it. Same
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: thing with one of the third down conversions on a
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: third and long in the first half, shallow crossed by
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: Jacoby Myers right into Hunter Henry in Vermandre Stevenson, who
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: are already engaged in blocking because they were in his zone.
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: The Jets played a ton of zone in that game,
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: and they're already engaged as blockers. That's good play design,
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: like that's that's good good play calling. You know you're
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: not going to be able to drop back on third
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: and eleven against that rush and find a guy breaking
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: seventeen yards down field for a first down. You got
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: to throw some underneath in. You know, Jona Smith had
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: had some yards after the catch to convert one. Myers
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: did a couple of times. Um, I'm not telling you
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: it's been great. I don't like it. I still don't
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: like what they're doing. I think they made it hard
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: on themselves intentionally, just like the whole like yanking Mac
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: Jones out of the game Monday night, created something on
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: their own. But I do think there are signs that
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: things that have gotten better in some of those operational situations.
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: All right, optimistic Paul, because I can be fair about it.
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: Back to the A stick of the line five hundred
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: Chris with a T, I A N. What's that Christian?
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: Hey guys, Um, I think I've been listening to the
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: show long enough for I can say with confidence, says
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: Brad's call and then falls response about if they have him,
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: And two weeks from now or maybe even like tomorrow,
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: somebody will call an email and say, oh yeah, instantly
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: playing like Grand Theft Auto. I'll tell you, I'll tell
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: you what it will be, Christian. Someone will go on
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: Twitter and tweet Ramadre Stevenson and say that I was
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: I said he was irrelevant when I said no, you
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: know at PFW, Paul said that you had nothing to
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: do with any of the wins, which is not what,
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: which is not at all what I said. But someone
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: will do that on Twitter because that's what they do.
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: That's what they do on Twitter. Elon Musk Twitter. Now, yeah,
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: maybe things will change now that you have an adult
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: in the room. But we'll see. I think it's gonna be.
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: Everything's okay now, Jeremy Fowler's reporting the Patriots do not
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: plan to move Isaiah Wynn. Oh. So there it is.
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: So i'd expect him. It is so, I'll see that
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: one for off air, but I would expect him to
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: be very much in play by the four o'clock trade deadline.
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: Did you just say that, Wow, you don't put much
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: stock into Jeremy Fowler. I no, I do. I'll tell
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: you why I say what I said. Out to it.
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: I think Jeremy Fowler does a good job. Don't add
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: Jeremy Fouler PFW Paul thinks, No, No, I think he does.
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: I think he does a really good job. I think
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: he's one of those guys that's tapped in around the league.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: But I'll tell you what I why I said what
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: I said. Okay, all right off here, and just as
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: far as Sunday he goes. I find it hard at
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: least at least for me to come out of their
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: feeling good about really much of anything. I just feel
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: like it was another game that just raised more questions
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: and answers. And Paul, I'm with you about the play calling.
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: It seems like it there's a little bit more, you know,
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: to it, and and there's more people, you know, look
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: at the film and you know, tweat stuff that the
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: concepts are there and the plays are there to be made.
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: I haven't actually had a tweet about that, you know,
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: the other day there was a film review that you know,
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: the plays are there more. I feel all that stuff.
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: I guess I'm sort of in the camp with everybody else,
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: like I Mac. It just looks lay too funky. And
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: I'm psyched about Stevenson. I'm psyched about Jack Jones, you know,
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: Dietrits six Jump Awesome. You were on playing great. But
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: there's a part of me seep down inside that kind
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: of just can't wait for this year to be over
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: because I just don't think they're going anywhere. And I
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: it's a the fetus, you know, view to have, but
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: that's kind of just how I feel are even with
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: the a f G being, you know, not as good
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: as we thought it would be. I don't necessarily take
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: us wide open, but ye kind of work. See. That's
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: the thing is I wonder what people Yeah, and I
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: kind of agree with Christian, but I wonder what people
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: were thinking heading out all right hitting into I think
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: that I don't think the AFC is wide open, like
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: like Christian just said, I don't think it's wide open
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: at all. I think there are two clear cut teams,
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: and I don't think there's always two clear cut teams.
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: It could be wide open for the wild card, yeah,
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: but I think that's I think most people felt that.
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: Now what you could maybe say, I thought like a
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: Denver would be much better than the Patriots, and they
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: haven't been right right, you know. I think the Raiders
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: were kind of on the cusp. I would think the
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: Raiders would be better Chargers, the Raiders would better than
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: I think the Chargers are exactly what I think most people.
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: They're like a five hundred and nine and eight ten
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: and seven kind of naughty, same kind of thing, you know,
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: Like I think that those like everybody is in a bunch,
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: but I don't understand like maybe the Jets are better
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: than obviously no one had the Jets at five and three.
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: But I think everybody's bunched together, and I just wonder, like,
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: how did you think it was going to separate? There
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: was gonna be like seven thirteen win teams in seven
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: four win teams, And I think a lot of people
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: thought the Colts were gonna be better. See, I don't.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: You don't think they were going to be better. No,
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: I think that they were going to be better with
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: Matt Ryan, But I don't think a lot of people
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: thought they were going to be like any thread. No.
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: But the people they just got nudged out of the
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: playoffs and they're gonna be the same exact team this year.
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: I think they're gonna be worse. I don't. But I mean,
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: what about the quality of the play though, I mean,
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: aside from the records, I think the quality Fred will
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: tell you this. I think the quality of player in
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: the league has been awful for like I'm going on
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: fifteen years, awful ever since the Patriots started getting good. No,
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: I'm sorry if I put it. I'm sorry if I
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: look at the first iteration of the dynasty as being
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: far more impressive, I think that was far more impressive.
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: I think they had to go through and be much
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: better teams instead of having a double buy like you
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: did the second part of the dynasty. You had to
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: beat like League MVP Steve McNair in the Division round
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: at home against Tennessee. That to me that that's tough.
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: Then having to beat you know, Pittsburgh on the road
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: as a fourteen and two team playing a fifteen and
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: one team, That that that's a challenge. Not playing the
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: brockofs Wilder Houston Texans in a playoff game, yeah, you know,
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: and who were only there because Derek Carr broke his
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: leg the week before and Houston ends up beating the
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: Raiders in a playoff game. I'm just I'm I never
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: in a hundred years would have thought that the Raiders,
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: the Chargers, and the Broncos would all be No, you
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: thought that that act powerhouse. I would have thought one
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: team would have been been better out of those those three. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: but didn't know who. Fair, I didn't know who. Yeah,
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: but fair your thought and you probably not so much
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: the charge because the charges of four and three, right, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: that's right. I mean, that's that's charge. You're central, that's
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: where they always are. Four and three, five and four years,
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: you know, maybe six and four and a couple end
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: of game decisions. Yeah, that's where they always are. I
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: would have thought either the Raiders or the Broncos would
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: be much better than they are. Yeah, I think that's fair.
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: But I wouldn't have thought the Jets would be as
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: good as they had Patty and Aga on what's up Patty? Yeah.
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: If I'm justin Herbert, I'm getting the hell out of
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: Lapp when his contracts done, Ricky deal has done, I
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: would I would take him. Actually, oh, I would take
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: them all day. Yeah, I'm close on him to just
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: tapping out close to cut and ties. I think he
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: might be part of the problem. Um uh not the
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: non sect order on the MAC, but uh, go ahead.
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: Last year, do you guys feel like he um he
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: actually stood in the pocket. Maybe he had a little
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: bit more confidence than the line because to me, it
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: is like just from I don't know if my memory
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: serving me correctly, but it seemed like he was more
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: willing to hang in the pocket and take take the
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: hit that he knew was coming than he does this year.
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: I think he did at first, towards the end of
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: the season. I think he got skittish again. I mean,
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: I would just say I walked. I took a look
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: back just at the highlights of the last year's Colts game,
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: and I mean it looked different to me. He looked
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: like a different stretch for every game, and they got
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: hammered in that. He wasn't good. He wasn't in that
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: good in that game, but he at least, you know,
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: just like I said, like is willing to take a
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: step and deliver the ball. And my amateur psychologist view
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: when he was a rookie, he came in after having
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: absolutely immaculate protection of Alabama. You don't know what you
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: don't know, and it's like that's what you do. You
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: drop back there and you don't end of anybody around you.
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: And as the year went on, he started getting hit.
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: As this year opened, he was getting hammered, untouched. Rushers
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: in Miami could be NFL. The defensive lineman hit hard,
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: so they're allowed to hit you here. Yeah. No, A
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: very amateur psychologists kind of like that though. You don't
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: know what you don't know, and then you get in
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: you start to get rattled. And I think that that
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: speaks to a lot of quarterbacks that get into the
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: league and kind of come in as mister everything, and
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: all of a sudden you get humbled a little bit.
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: You're getting hit a little bit. Someone sent something to
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: ask PFW earlier, Mike, you know, saying, is there anything
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: to the theory that Zappy has looked better with these
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: guys because they are a dramatic upgrade from what he
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: worked with at Western Kentucky as opposed to mac whiteness
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: around him at every spot. I didn't make it. I'm
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: crediting a guy who wrote into our mail backs. It's funny, Paul.
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: I can't help but think that kind of some along
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: those lines. When I was watching the Battle of the Eagles,
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: and I'm like, they're they're an SEC All Star team,
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: Like they have all SEC All Stars all over their offense,
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: and you know, and their defense has played well too.
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: I mean, it's just it should get bets how it
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: should look when you robert really good players from the
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: best league, and you know, I think something they're saying,
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: put again the NFC, the only good teams are and
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: they didn't include the Eagles. Someone said there's only oh no,
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: there's only two teams that are really good. The Bills,
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: in the Chiefs. I'm like, oh, in the AFC, No,
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: in the NFL, oh no. And it's like the Eagles
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: are good, the Cowboys are good. Yeah, absolutely, yeah like this.
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: I mean, you think what you want about Dallas exact.
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: They have a bosover a coach and Jerry Jones will
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: medal whatever. Yeah, they're good, Michael Parsons, that's a good team.
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: Cody's in Baltimore. Hey, Cody, Hey, guys, good, good afternoon. Yeah.
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: Um so, I know the subject is being as death,
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: but I'm calling to discuss Zappy and Matt Jones. Uh specifically,
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: I really didn't like the dismissal of Zappy after one
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: bad half football. The office looks more alive Sappy. I
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: know it's the small sample size, but he looks decisive
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: and sharper in his brows in a way that Matt
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: seems to be regressing. I'm secret seeing Mac he uses
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: legs to pick up first downs, and I just don't
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: understand why they didn't choose to continue to go at
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: the hot hand and start Zapp against the Bears. And
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: now I feel like we're married and Matt Jones and
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: his turnovers, it was indecisive. Miss why didn't. Why did
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: we lose State and Zappy so quickly? I would actually
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: say they did the opposite of that. I think they
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: rode Zappy out until the hot hand cooled off. I
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: think if Zappy played well for the rest of that
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: Chicago game PDA played, I think he cooled off and
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: they said, Okay, that's we think the other guy's better.
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: This guy just played five straight series and didn't even
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: cross his forty yard line. Yeah, I think that one's
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: worn off a little bit. I think they did ride
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: the hot hand. I think that's why they played Zappy
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: in the Monday night game because I think they were
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: looking to go back to the hot hand, and I
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: think no one can speak to like what they want
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: to do with the offense that they want to be
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: and how do they get there. I don't think they
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: get there with Bailey Zappy. They get with Mac if
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: Mac plays the way they think Mac might be. And
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: in fairness, I don't know if they get there with Mac.
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: I don't know either, but but um I would agree
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: with Mike's premise that Mac has a better skill set
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: doesn't mean doesn't make him a better player, because we've
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: seen guys with Leiser skill sets that get the job done.
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: Like I think no one would argue that Carson Wentz.
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: No one would argue that Carson Wentz is a more
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: talented player than Taylor. Heineke gets the job done, but
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: Washington comes, you know, comes in. He won two games.
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: I don't think he was good in either game, but
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: you won them. Yeah, and that's why some ways, like
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: I see Mac as uh, you know, it's kind of
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: like a quintessential Patriot performance this week of it's not flashy,
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: does what he needs to do to get just enough
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: to make it happen, you know. And so I think
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: that they like that to a degree. I think that
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: that does some credit to Mac. But but it's just
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: it's got to get to a next level where you're
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: not just surviving. And I think he said on the
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: postgame show, sometimes it feels like you're surviving your own offense.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: Mike was all over. They started the game, Fred like
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: even some of this quote unquote successful drives. It was,
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: you know, twelve plays, you know, fifty two yards, like
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: third down, down, and you're moving the chains by like
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: a chain link every time. It's like it's never like
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: third and two we pick up seventeen. It was just
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: a slog every even the successful plays where and I
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: think that goes back to UM. I think it was
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: the last call. Maybe a speed, but you know it
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: just it's a grind. If you if you added up
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: consecutive first downs by Mac running on the play that
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: they got hit by C. J. Mosley, H John ou
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: Smith with the yards after the catch in the in
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: one of those shallow crosses by Myers, you probably didn't
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: get those three first downs by a combined length of
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: the football. Now, it doesn't matter how much you get
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: it by you move the chains. But it's a hard
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: way to live, is the point. H. Greg's in California.
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: What's up? Greg? Hey, guys, So you're just talking about
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: how you think if anyone in our quarterback room could
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: unlock whatever potential the offense has its back. But I
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: don't think I think the sample size is big enough
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: at this point that he's displayed to mistake Brown when
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: they try to unlock whatever potential the offense might have.
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: And I honestly would feel better if we just tried
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: to pursue another quarterback at this point. I don't know
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: if you guys agree with that or not. I agree
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: with it. I mean, I agree with the part that
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: the mistakes are unacceptable, and the mistakes are going to
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: undercut anything that you believe or want to believe about
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: mac Jones. If he continues to turn the ball over
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: and throw bad picks, it's it's not going to continue.
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: It's not They're not going to continue down that road.
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: And that's a bottom line for me. Good Mike, Michael Lombardi,
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: good job. I would know you sounded just like Michael Lombardi.
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: If continue to turn the ball over, he's not going
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: to play. I would also say, um, I, Greg, I
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: sort of share a lot of your concerns. I would
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: push back a little on the samples eyes. I don't
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: think that. I think there's been guys that are still
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: sort of in that is he Ori is any category
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: after twenty five games. I don't think this is like
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: the be all considering all the changes that they've been
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: through the year. One. The injury too, like the injury
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: too like to rails him a little bit had he
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: had continuity. And if you're asking me to put my
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: hand on a bible and tell tell you what I
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: think now, I don't think he's the guy, but that
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: doesn't mean I think we've known that for sure. I
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: think he deserves more time just because the injury and
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: all the chaos is giving him an excuse with some people.
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: But he was playing like crap before the injury and
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: all that. So I just think he kind of peeked in,
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: Like but I don't think he played like crap on Sunday.
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: But yeah, I don't. I don't think he played like
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: crap Sunday. I think he was really he was under
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: siege the whole game. Thanks. Great. So here's the thing
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: that I keep thinking about. This offense hasn't looked right since,
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: not even priests training camp, Like they weren't even doing
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: it right in training camp. It hasn't looked right yet.
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: So is that Mac, You know what I mean? Like
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: like there was problems with the offense as a whole
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: since training camp, you know, and like so yeah, well
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: I know, And that's and I keep going back to
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: like the zappy thing, and I know all the qualifiers
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: for who was playing and what the situation was, but
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: it was like that was the only time this year
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: that you just watched it looked like an offense that
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: was like running it and knew what they were doing
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: and completing plays and just you know, kind of had
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: a rhythm to it. And it's just like our callers
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: have said it, it feels sporadic. It feels a grind,
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: and that's why are they gonna get there? I really
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: don't know. Still, I really don't. Hey, what did you
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: guys think? I know what you know? Still talking about
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: the Jets, right, what did you guys think of the
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: decisions to pass up field goals on the two fourth downs?
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: One worked and one didn't. On the first one, I said,
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: take the pool points. That's what I was saying, Take
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: that because this that's the type of about the second one.
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: At that point, I think I said go for it,
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: but I can't remember. I know, I know on the
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: first one, I was like, just take them. I thought
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: they should have kicked both field goals. I think the
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: game had declared it was going to be, you know, yeah,
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: if you could get to twenty, you're gonna win. You
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: didn't need a lot of points in that game, right,
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: And I think passing up points both times was risky.
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: I just think I was at a point where I
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: like seeing them put in situations where they have to
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: deliver or fail, and you know, I'm just I know,
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: if you're going big picture, I a thousand percent agree
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: with you, that's I think. But I'm trying to win
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: the game. I'm just going by winning the game. And
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: if they didn't get the second one, you might have lost. Yeah,
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: like you take seven points away, and I'm not saying
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: that you take seven from twenty two, you lose the game,
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: you know, seventeen to fifteen. It doesn't work that way.
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: The whole game changes. But that was potentially, you know,
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: you take six points away from you by not taking
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: two chip shot field goals. That's I think that was
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: unnecessary risk in a game that you didn't need a
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: lot of points in. I mean, do you think that
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: that that that has an impact on Mac when you
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: start to do those things and you just start to
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: not not even go forward on And I think that
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: he pulled back the aggressiveness a lot. No, And I
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: just think that you you know, it's an easy that's
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: an easy fix. You know, start making the plays on
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: third down and we won't have to be put in
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: these situations like I mean, it's it's it's really don't
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: like it. It's really simple. Um, And I know Mac
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: was adamant about going for the second one I started.
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: He was gesturing to the sideline, we're going forward. He
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: was all, you know, for tough guy. Um, but I
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: just think that the number one thing for the code
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: should be what is in the best interest of the
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: team to win today, not like anything you should be
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: talking about winning Marvin and Kerner's that's what's what I
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: agree with you. I agree with you, Fred. Why are
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: we assuming that BILLYO was even wanting to come back
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: to New England instead of taking a head coach job
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: at say Carolina. No, I mean, listen, if he gets
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: offered a head coach job, he takes that. But I
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: don't think he's coming back here. And I think that
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: the way I think, Mike you put this is when
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: I was coming back in from my little potty break. Um,
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: it's kind of like an admission that you have to
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: do it all over again. And I don't think that
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: that's something A that's in their DNA. But b you
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: could make an argument it's not the best interest to
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: Mac yeah, to have your third offensive coordinator in three years.
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: I think if anything, that's why I said, if you,
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: if you just bring in the offensive line coach and
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: you just let Maddie Peep become the offensive coordinator, then
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: that's not a tacit admission of failure, but it's at least,
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: you know, like a reshuffling, a restructuring of the coaching staff.
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: And pretty deep in Charlotte, North Carolina was about to
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: ask the question and Paul was talking about it as well.
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: Looking back at the movement of Win from left tackle
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: to right tackle, was it a good move? I mean,
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: when was not that this bad? When he was playing?
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: I would agree with that he was a service He
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: was serviceable at left when he's not serviceable at right tackle. Yeah,
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: and why haven't? I mean, I wonder if that conversation
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: has come up, did we flop him? You know? I
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: mean it was all, oh, you know, gonna balance it out.
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: You're gonna have power on that side, the athleticism on
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: this side. Like, do you think that's why they I
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: don't know, I don't know, I don't know why they
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: did it. But whatever benefit that they thought they were
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: going to reap from it, do you think they've reaped
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: that benefit? No? So, and you know that you know,
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: Brown's okay at right side, and I'd be willing to
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: listen to anything as to the reason why. That's as
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: plausible as anything. I was wondering if maybe they'd wanted
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: to see if they could further engage Trent Brown by
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: moving him to the left side. I don't think that's worked.
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: I think he's the opposite. He's the same apathetic guy
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: that he had always has been. Um you know some
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: games he has. I think he played well. So, like
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: I said, I didn't notice him with any egregious breakdowns
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: on Sunday the week before. I did. Did he not
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: have a penalty diet sheets for this one? I think
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: he had a clean sheet. I don't think he tackles
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: had a clean sheet, didn't they Yeah, well, you the
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: right tackle would have had to hit somebody. But I
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: don't think there were any penalties on the tackles. No,
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: they were on Strange. Strange had two holding calls. I
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: think Matt and Devin uk I know that we won
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: the game, but I need you guys to talk me
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: down as I'm on the ledge. We only won this
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: one because Wilson is one of the worst quarterbacks I've
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: ever seen, and the Jets peed themselves after the roughing
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: the passer penalty in the first half. Before that point,
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: they were killing us. Why are we so bad? I
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: know that we've got a few good players across some positions,
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: but mac is still throwing the ball to the other
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: team could have ended with at least three picks, including
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: the pick six on the day, our old line might
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: as well not be there. And before Wilson started peeing
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: down his leg, the Jets offense was making our d
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: look amateurish. Talk me down. I'd only pushed back on
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: the last point of I mean they blew some they
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: blew a couple coverage, there's no question, but I don't
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: I don't think they've ever looked the amateurist except maybe
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: against Lamar Jackson Field I thought, I mean, not amateurish,
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: but I thought they The Jets offense was better than
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: the Patriots defense for the balance of the first half
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: until that pick. Because the Jets are you have to
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: take into consideration what you're dealing with. It's not a
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: good offense, and they were on the verge of putting
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: thirteen on the board with one throw, like they're gonna
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: be over midfield plenty of time. They're probably gonna get points.
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: But even the ten that's more than they score. They
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: do not score that team, and they were without their
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: best players. They were out their best receiver, their best
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: offensive linemen, and their best running back, and they were
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: moving the ball. Like I said, they had like four
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: hundred yards of offense in this game. And Zach Wilson
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: for as bad as he was through for three fifty five.
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: And I just I don't know if you can understate
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: what Bruce Hall was to that team early in the
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: season when you watch those games and the impact that
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: he had with big play. I mean, everybody talking about
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: Romandre Stevenson, like I just say, if the Patriots would
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: have lost without Stevenson, like, well, how do you think
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: the Jets feel like? If I'm wrong and they wouldn't
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: be formed for without Stevenson, how do you think the
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: Jets feel if if they had Bruce Hall? Do you
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: think they felt like they would have won that game?
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: And I think they looked at the Patriots run defense
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: and said, we would have had some opportunities and maybe
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: instead of running the ball fifteen times, if they had
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: Breeze Hall, they would have been more content to do that.
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: They had a guy in Robinson that they just got
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: and I don't think they feel comfortable just lining up
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: Michael Carter as a running back for more than a
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: handful of touches. I think there were times that they
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: know they stored it through some holes. They didn't run
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: it enough. That's the bottom line. If they had just
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: run it ten more times and taken ten of those
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: passes away, maybe among those ten passes or a couple
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: of the mistakes. Neil and new Brunswick, you've all agreed
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: that you can't pencil and wins. I agree, but with
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: that we have to accept the other side of that
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: is you can't complain when you win but you don't
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: like the way it looked. Only really good teams with
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: high expectations get to do that. For us, a win
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: is a win, no matter how Congratulations to Bill a
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: number two all time I was on the Zappi train.
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: Nothing changed for me Sunday. The offense with Mac under center,
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: it feels like they're playing on a sheet to ice.
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: That's the way I can describe it. It just doesn't
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: look right. That doesn't mean Zappy is anything in this league.
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: I just enjoy watching the offense more when Zappy is
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: the quarterback. I don't buy the reason for calling plays
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: based on the quarterback because the weapons don't change. Maybe
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: our weapons are suited for the zappy playbook. I like
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: the offense better when they play against the Lions. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: I mean the Lions and Browns have bad have bad defenses.
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: I like the way the offense looked in those games
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: better than they did against, yeah, the Jets, and that's
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: you know, the Ravens. It's totally fair that who they
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: were playing. But I just I'm with a part of
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: this of just I can't shake that. How can it
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: go from looking so clunky to least like kind of
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: functional even against the bad decase. So, I mean you
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: could go out there seven on seven and it looked
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: like the same as we're seeing rain. Let's flip it
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: in the last five minutes. How do you feel the
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: defense looks against, say, the Jets, as opposed to the
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: way it looked against Baltimore. Right, it's the same thing.
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: The defense look clunky against a bad offense, I mean
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: against a good offense, right, But it's dominant against Zach Wilson,
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: you know, the team that's throwing the ball to them.
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: I mean not exactly dominant, No, but I'm saying, like,
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: you know, think about the performances that they've had over
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: the year, you know, like everybody, you know, we heard
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: it again today because we're getting ready to head into
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: the bye. Oh the bye. I'm not sure that's the
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: right thing. Look what happened after the bye last week?
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: Last year? What happened they played better team? They played
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: better teams Zebra Jacksonville who they blistered. I just, you know,
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: I guess this is part of me that thinks that
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: there's a level of execution that I just I saw
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: out of the offense during that stretch that I just
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: haven't seen, whether they were going against air or nothing
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: like the training can't practice. Let's let's face it, the
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: Patriots are a mediocre team. They're not a good team.
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: A good team is consistently good. Until you're consistently good,
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: you're not good. They're good some days they're not bad.
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: And a lot of it depends on the opponent it
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: and until they figure out the offense in mac they're
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: not going to be a consistently good team, you know.
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: So that's just where we are right now. I agree
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: with it. We're working through it. Yeah, I mean, I
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: guess then in that in that regard, I just want
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: to see mac Jones against a bad defense and see
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: them like somebody I don't want to see right like that.
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: That won't tell me, that won't tell me crazy. I
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: want to see them play well against a good team.
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: I'm with Fred, Yeah, I need to see a progression.
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: That's why this second half of the season is critical.
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: And I want them to stick with Matt through thick
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: and thin, do a Miami thing to see I want
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: to see what only like that, and that's like pieing
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: the sky to me right now, like I would just
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: want to see them light up Jacksonville for fifty points.
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: And I'm not saying that you're gonna learn anything definitive,
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: but at least for one time in two sense of
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: security if that's fine, but at least at least I
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: know I think you have it, because I don't know
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: that they have it in them at this time. I
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: need to see. I'm expecting another low scoring, tight game
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: against the Colts, but I think they blow the Colts
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: out because they're playing a kid. They're making his second start,
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: first career road start, and I think he could turn
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: the ball over four times in the first five possessions,
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: and I've learned nothing about Smack Joe. All right. Patriotson
