- 0:52Speaker 2: It's clear Carlos time.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Novak might get twenty five, but it won't be here.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Alcras takes the AO thrown. No Vaks still could win.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Wimble don al Coras takes the AO thrown. No Vaks
- 1:17Speaker 1: still could win.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Wimble don't wimbleedes.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Wimble do? When's wimbledone? People are gonna get angry if
- 1:34Speaker 1: we keep pronouncing it Wimbledon wimbledone, and that's the attraction
- 1:38Speaker 1: we want.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I love the history of Wimbledon, That's what I respect
- 1:42Speaker 2: about it. How the tradition, how everything is the same
- 1:44Speaker 2: it's been for years, including the.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Name is wimbledone on your bucket list?
- 1:48Speaker 2: Wimble done? I love we have Wimble. Don't Wimbledoo, I.

- 1:56Speaker 1: to Wimbledon. Yeah, well they're sending us here, don't we
- 1:58Speaker 1: have a guarantee from Tennis Australia. And there was a
- 2:01Speaker 1: thumbs up there.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I yeah, I'm booking my flights or I'll send
- 2:05Speaker 2: them my frequok flight.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah, just do that and then you know your details.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Do b yeah, do passport number. We'll do all the
- 2:13Speaker 1: admirin Greig Tyler does it himself.
- 2:15Speaker 2: He's got this big Manila folder that he carries around
- 2:17Speaker 2: under his arm every day just and there it's.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Post it notes.
- 2:21Speaker 2: It's it's like George gets stands a's wallet. It's yeah,
- 2:24Speaker 2: just bursting full of papers and admin and he still
- 2:27Speaker 2: uses a fax machine.
- 2:28Speaker 1: The man in the past is, oh man, it is
- 2:31Speaker 1: the final day. Did you have another song option for
- 2:34Speaker 1: the day?
- 2:35Speaker 2: You said, yeah, no I did, but then I forgot
- 2:37Speaker 2: it on the walk in here I had and then
- 2:39Speaker 2: I completely forgot it.
- 2:40Speaker 1: It could have been to dream it's over, but then hey,
- 2:43Speaker 1: now hey, now it was like Alchoraz it.
- 2:46Speaker 2: So no, it's going to be Novak it's over. But
- 2:49Speaker 2: it was too sad.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Tournaments over the tournament.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Hey, Novak got puffed in the four said.
- 3:00Speaker 1: He's old.
- 3:01Speaker 2: He's old old, too old to win a Grand slat.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Will he get to twenty five?
- 3:08Speaker 1: Maybe it wimbled for the pros of one man. I
- 3:14Speaker 1: walked in here today and it was a sad sight
- 3:16Speaker 1: to behold the Australian Open finish last night, Alcoraz taking
- 3:20Speaker 1: the title in four sets.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and when you say finished, it's like they're packing
- 3:25Speaker 2: everything up. Yeah, they're gonna come. They're waiting for us
- 3:28Speaker 2: to finish this podcast, to pack the studio.
- 3:30Speaker 1: They wanted to bump out while we were in here.
- 3:32Speaker 1: They're going to just start taking our jar of tennis
- 3:35Speaker 1: balls and the racket, like what time are you doing,
- 3:37Speaker 1: and we're like ten or something.
- 3:38Speaker 2: They're like like annoyed the way he is exactly, and
- 3:43Speaker 2: there's everyone's in high viz.
- 3:45Speaker 1: They're bumping everything out. I got very sad. I saw
- 3:48Speaker 1: a cart filled with giant tennis balls being shipped out
- 3:52Speaker 1: of the state.
- 3:53Speaker 2: That is sad. It's like so symbolic and it is
- 3:56Speaker 2: like just it's over. The tennis is done.
- 3:59Speaker 1: It's done. You also came in furious you had to
- 4:01Speaker 1: pay for a coffee. I know, So what the hell
- 4:04Speaker 1: is this? I'm not getting my twenty five dollars credit.
- 4:07Speaker 2: I'm like, gee, I don't do this. But yeah, symbolically
- 4:11Speaker 2: and physically it's over.
- 4:12Speaker 1: It's over.
- 4:13Speaker 2: But it finished with a bang, very special night.
- 4:16Speaker 1: It felt like last night, I'm in very special tournament
- 4:19Speaker 1: with very special friends. Are you referring to me? No,
- 4:26Speaker 1: of course you've been a friend from wayback, is true.
- 4:30Speaker 1: That is true. Thanks for bringing me and I've had
- 4:31Speaker 1: the time of my life. Well you're welcome, dude. Never
- 4:34Speaker 1: forget what have you done for me.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I got you hot chips in the final yesterday and
- 4:38Speaker 2: I said you can have Yeah, I know, and I
- 4:40Speaker 2: was like thanks.
- 4:42Speaker 1: We'll get to all that. I should say. Welcome to
- 4:45Speaker 1: pod Labor Arena. Yeah, we're not going for good because
- 4:49Speaker 1: the tournament's over. We'll be back. We're going weekly totally.

- 5:02Speaker 1: up to the American swing, that sunshine double hardcore, hardcore swing.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Do you call it that? Well it is, so you're
- 5:09Speaker 1: not wrong, Thank you very much.
- 5:11Speaker 2: If you listen to this podcast and you're like God,
- 5:12Speaker 2: thank god it's over, it's only just because it's.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Only just big un ah. And as always I am
- 5:22Speaker 1: joined by my co host, the Stephen Edburgh to my

- 5:28Speaker 2: Just want to get early on here and say Piper
- 5:31Speaker 2: hard Tech, thank you.
- 5:31Speaker 1: You saved us yesterday they did.
- 5:33Speaker 2: We drank warm champagne in this studio yep, and we
- 5:37Speaker 2: loved it.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Out of dirty glasses that had lipstick on them. Still
- 5:42Speaker 1: our sponsor is always Piper Heid Sick get to slurp
- 5:46Speaker 1: and douche nozzles.
- 5:49Speaker 2: It has just descended. Were still yet to hear from
- 5:52Speaker 2: Piper hard Tech. We would love to hear from you.

- 6:00Speaker 1: We love it.
- 6:02Speaker 2: We love it so much that apparently we didn't have
- 6:04Speaker 2: to do it every day.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Oh well, this is what we got told by our
- 6:08Speaker 1: producer is that we were just meant to do a
- 6:10Speaker 1: Piper Heidsick read on the first day. Yeah, and going
- 6:13Speaker 1: every day. I was so excited to have just a
- 6:17Speaker 1: fancy sponsor. I really dragged it down into the muck.
- 6:21Speaker 1: But yeah, but because I'm twisting the script, Piper Heidsick,
- 6:24Speaker 1: twist the script brand. Yeah. And also we keep emailing
- 6:29Speaker 1: us pod labor at tennis dot com dot au. We've
- 6:32Speaker 1: been getting tons of emails, but all from Lizzie, who
- 6:34Speaker 1: which we are ignoring at this point. Yeah, but no, Louis,
- 6:38Speaker 1: she'll be back as well. We'll be back a like, follow, subscribe,

- 6:50Speaker 2: I'm good, I'm good. Yeah, your pet Friend shows. What
- 6:53Speaker 2: of the dates.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Maybruary twelfth to the sixteenth, per Fringe. Yeah, so come
- 6:59Speaker 1: see me an hour of stand up about tennis. It
- 7:03Speaker 1: is all about tennis.
- 7:04Speaker 2: And I'll also be doing my new hour of stand up,
- 7:07Speaker 2: which is all about the American swing of the atp too.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Oh really fantastic. I'm very excited. Comedy festival.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Yeah, Oh you're doing all the first time, doing all
- 7:15Speaker 1: the festivals. You'll be in every city, every city. Ah.
- 7:18Speaker 1: We had a huge day yesterday. It was so fun.
- 7:22Speaker 1: The we finished here pretty early.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Well by design, we wanted to get in early and
- 7:27Speaker 2: then soak up the atmosphere because we've been kind of
- 7:29Speaker 2: trapped in the studio quite a lot that I didn't
- 7:32Speaker 2: let us leave that much. But yesterday we're like, we
- 7:35Speaker 2: were going to get out there, and we were out there.
- 7:37Speaker 2: We were bar hopping, we were getting I'm on broad
- 7:40Speaker 2: sheet reading.
- 7:41Speaker 1: The best food at the History Yeah, like not a joke,
- 7:44Speaker 1: and we did. We found the best fried check. Yeah,
- 7:46Speaker 1: it was so good. It was really good. Yeah, but
- 7:49Speaker 1: it was a fantastic day. So yeah, we wrapped the
- 7:51Speaker 1: podcast early and then we went out with Ace. We
- 7:55Speaker 1: were bouncing around just having a great time out there,
- 7:58Speaker 1: and then we saw that the Junior's Final was starting
- 8:02Speaker 1: in Rod Laver Arena. It was fantastic and we were like,
- 8:05Speaker 1: let's go check it out because I saw Keaton Hans
- 8:07Speaker 1: was playing.
- 8:08Speaker 2: And you because Keaton a young American buck, I don't
- 8:11Speaker 2: know where he's from exactly in the States. I don't
- 8:14Speaker 2: know if you got that guessing like an Arizona or
- 8:17Speaker 2: that kind of energy. You said, maybe if it's East coast,
- 8:19Speaker 2: it would be kind of Florida.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Potentially, yeah, yeah, or like the Hampton. Yeah.
- 8:23Speaker 2: But I saw you kind of the closest i've seen
- 8:27Speaker 2: to you ever, acting kind of like a father figure.
- 8:29Speaker 2: You were there and you're like, come on, Keaton. I think,
- 8:31Speaker 2: I said, you caught him son under your breath. No,
- 8:33Speaker 2: noot Son. You said, what do you know about Keaton?
- 8:36Speaker 1: I said, I know he's a good kid, and he's
- 8:41Speaker 1: a good he's a good kid. But he disappointed me.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Great yeah, yeah, yeah, which I mean maybe he is
- 8:46Speaker 2: in your family. That that's what you would get used
- 8:48Speaker 2: to being used to that.
- 8:49Speaker 1: You stormed out there.
- 8:50Speaker 2: He said, no, son of mine is going to lose
- 8:52Speaker 2: the Australian Open Junior men's final.
- 8:55Speaker 1: And he did. He lost to Slovakian Ziga sesco In
- 8:59Speaker 1: three said, but I should say they play best three
- 9:02Speaker 1: of the juniors, and they also played less. Yeah.
- 9:05Speaker 2: It took us a while to figure that out, Like
- 9:07Speaker 2: what's going on here? I turned to you and I'm like, dude,
- 9:09Speaker 2: I think I'm losing my mind. I think I've seen
- 9:12Speaker 2: seven nets. No one's really what's going on. It's just
- 9:16Speaker 2: bouncing off the net and it was brutally. There was
- 9:18Speaker 2: some contentious points as well, like that had kind of
- 9:21Speaker 2: implications for the good quality of tennis. Though, oh man,
- 9:25Speaker 2: I know these guys are like future stars obviously, like
- 9:27Speaker 2: junior grand sname finals often kind of predict who's going
- 9:30Speaker 2: to go on to do great things. But I still
- 9:32Speaker 2: had a part of me where I'm like, let's go
- 9:34Speaker 2: see the little kids. Yeah, hit the ball and you
- 9:36Speaker 2: get in there and says first of one, nine to five,
- 9:38Speaker 2: and you're like, whoa ripping four hands?
- 9:41Speaker 1: It was amazing. Yeah, and there was you loved one.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Ziega argued a line call because you can't and I said,
- 9:50Speaker 1: you can't argue with the Chubb close call.
- 9:52Speaker 2: The robot he said, can I see He goes, can
- 9:54Speaker 2: I see Chubb again? Yeah, and then it's like it's
- 9:56Speaker 2: a robot, dude, Like the robot's going to admit it's wrong.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Well, I've seen players asked to see the close call
- 10:03Speaker 1: because I don't know that. I think they want to
- 10:06Speaker 1: breathere omos or they just want whatever confirmation, you know,
- 10:10Speaker 1: But this seemed like he really thought they were going
- 10:12Speaker 1: to show it. And then here's gonna go see and
- 10:14Speaker 1: Chubb was gonna go Oh shit, I screwed this one, dude.
- 10:17Speaker 2: I've watched so many matches. Chub never backs down. Chub's
- 10:20Speaker 2: always right. No matter how wrong you think, Chubby, Chubby
- 10:24Speaker 2: is always correct.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Ah.
- 10:25Speaker 1: So we enjoyed the juniors. It's great. Yeah, it was
- 10:29Speaker 1: really good. And then we popped out. It was there's
- 10:33Speaker 1: a party vibe in the air.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I think ground passes are a little bit cheaper, and
- 10:38Speaker 2: the vibe is like, just calm down and even if
- 10:40Speaker 2: you don't have a ticket to the final week down.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Like I said, we were out in the grounds by
- 10:45Speaker 1: you know, midday ash, but we just slowly saw it
- 10:48Speaker 1: just get packed. Yeah, more packed. And then we heard
- 10:53Speaker 1: tell of a rap party for the media and staff.
- 10:57Speaker 2: And this excites us so much because I guess we
- 11:00Speaker 2: have worked in the media in different capacities, but like
- 11:03Speaker 2: as comedians, never serious, No, people.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Don't take us serious.
- 11:08Speaker 2: But for the first time I feel like in my
- 11:10Speaker 2: life that people are taking me seriously here with my past,
- 11:13Speaker 2: are they Well, there's no difference to my past to
- 11:15Speaker 2: like another journal Right, went to the rat party.
- 11:18Speaker 1: And there's drinks, just a bar it's.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Like media, international media, and it's nice to be there
- 11:24Speaker 2: with our colleagues.
- 11:25Speaker 1: They have this giant screen playing you know whatever, tennis,
- 11:29Speaker 1: playing our podcasts playing let's let's not be humble. Well,
- 11:33Speaker 1: if they were playing the podcast, maybe we would have
- 11:35Speaker 1: been more respected because we went in there and I
- 11:39Speaker 1: am and know how to act in these situations. That
- 11:44Speaker 1: because I walk up to the bar, I'm just going
- 11:46Speaker 1: to grab a drink confidently and walk away. And then
- 11:49Speaker 1: Sam Tartan being the you know, little how are you
- 11:53Speaker 1: gonna work? Fragile fragile man?
- 11:56Speaker 2: That is because excuse me? Are we allowed to have these?
- 12:00Speaker 2: Can I request a drink? My whistle is parched and
- 12:05Speaker 2: I need some kind of refreshment and I allowed? What okay,
- 12:09Speaker 2: what's crazy about that is you must have been recording me,
- 12:11Speaker 2: because that is word for word what I said. Also
- 12:14Speaker 2: the cadence and she goes, she looks at your past
- 12:16Speaker 2: and she goes, no, you don't have the right pass.
- 12:18Speaker 1: These aren't for.
- 12:19Speaker 2: You, and okay's so sorry. And then there was a
- 12:24Speaker 2: bit of a gust of wind and I just blew over. Yeah,
- 12:27Speaker 2: And then you were like, did you know I eat
- 12:29Speaker 2: pancakes with my girlfriend?
- 12:30Speaker 1: During five cent manches.
- 12:35Speaker 2: No, this is defamation, right, And now what happened was
- 12:39Speaker 2: I walked up and look, maybe I feel like you're
- 12:41Speaker 2: a bit more of a career grafter than me, do
- 12:43Speaker 2: you know what I mean? So maybe you're like you
- 12:45Speaker 2: just confidently grub a drink in this movie.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Well that's what you do.
- 12:48Speaker 2: I like to be accepted into certain places. So I
- 12:51Speaker 2: know I didn't word it like that. I said, can
- 12:53Speaker 2: I just grab one of these? That's how I said it.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I even say, you think that was too much? Yeah,
- 12:57Speaker 2: but then that's so rude to walk up to a
- 12:58Speaker 2: bar just grab a drinking bar. Yeah, but that's you
- 13:01Speaker 2: have to say something. What I'm gonna not look her
- 13:03Speaker 2: in the because she checked on the table, grab my drink,
- 13:06Speaker 2: and walk off.
- 13:07Speaker 1: But because she checked your past, then I was obviously
- 13:10Speaker 1: in your orbit and she checked my past. And she
- 13:13Speaker 1: goes like, you guys are going to have to clear
- 13:14Speaker 1: this with Belinda, who's standing over there.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Well, I mean, look, you think I there's no world
- 13:20Speaker 2: in which you get in and I don't get in.
- 13:22Speaker 2: You get caught up in the same way I get
- 13:24Speaker 2: caught I was.
- 13:25Speaker 1: I was making my way in. I was like high
- 13:27Speaker 1: fiving people know you that's yeah, that's not true anyway.
- 13:30Speaker 1: It was fellas when ray Leiota walks through the bar
- 13:34Speaker 1: and everyone's.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Like, now he was hurriedly behind me, you know, almost
- 13:40Speaker 2: like a congo lot.
- 13:41Speaker 1: You were cowering behind me.
- 13:42Speaker 2: And then you're like, oh, please, like, do you have
- 13:45Speaker 2: anything with more fluid in it?
- 13:47Speaker 1: Please? My allergies is my blood sugar is a bit low?
- 13:53Speaker 1: Is there?
- 13:53Speaker 2: Non alcoholic? I get indigestion. And then and then she goes,
- 13:58Speaker 2: you guys are gonna have to talk to Belinda is
- 14:00Speaker 2: an effect name. Yes, we don't want to get anyone,
- 14:02Speaker 2: you know. So we were like, absolutely, this will all
- 14:05Speaker 2: get worked out because we haven't really been turned away anywhere. No,
- 14:08Speaker 2: And these are all media people, she was tayking, it's
- 14:10Speaker 2: for like external international media or something.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 14:13Speaker 2: There's a big party, but there were so many people there.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it was like the eyes white Chut party in there.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, there was crazy stuff. No cameras, phones had
- 14:21Speaker 2: to go into a bag. That kind of a party basically.
- 14:23Speaker 1: And then we go talk to Belinda and I'll let
- 14:26Speaker 1: you explain because you can because.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I did so well that Mike was like, you go
- 14:32Speaker 2: talk to Belinda, this will work out. So I wander
- 14:34Speaker 2: over to Belinda and I was like, so, what's going on? Yeah,
- 14:37Speaker 2: is with my they said my past won't work And
- 14:39Speaker 2: she's like, yeah, you're not allowed in here. And I
- 14:41Speaker 2: was like, but we're media, and she's like looking at
- 14:44Speaker 2: my past. And then I think to soften it, she goes,
- 14:46Speaker 2: your past is better than their past and I was like,
- 14:49Speaker 2: but we're not allowed here. Like yeah, I was like,
- 14:52Speaker 2: you can't gaslight me. Immediately she was like, your past
- 14:55Speaker 2: can go more places. I'm like, but we're not allowed here.
- 14:58Speaker 2: What are you talking about? And then you come over
- 15:01Speaker 2: because I think you see me flailing around as well.
- 15:03Speaker 2: So you go up to Belinda and you're like, just
- 15:06Speaker 2: let us help.
- 15:08Speaker 1: You just got to plead it. You're like, come on,
- 15:12Speaker 1: let us have thought that might work because I was
- 15:15Speaker 1: I was saying. I was like, this is the last day, right,
- 15:18Speaker 1: I go, this is the last day? Like come on totally. Also,
- 15:21Speaker 1: at this point, ace Man got in. Didn't he behind us?
- 15:24Speaker 1: Well we thought he did, but we'll get the ace Man.
- 15:26Speaker 1: We were hanging with ace Man, you know, but we're
- 15:29Speaker 1: over there talking about I thought ace Man.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Is like, you know, he's in there in the crowd.
- 15:33Speaker 2: He's lit a cigar already. Yeah, exactly. And so we're
- 15:38Speaker 2: talking to Belinda and I go, it's the last day.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Do you really care? And she goes, I do. Yeah,
- 15:43Speaker 2: And it was if it wasn't happening to us, I
- 15:46Speaker 2: would have stood and applauded that woman. It kind of
- 15:49Speaker 2: ruled from her perspective, but we were like, oh my god.
- 15:53Speaker 2: And she looked at us with like discussed like I'm
- 15:57Speaker 2: pretty sure she thought we shouldn't have been anywhere at
- 15:59Speaker 2: the tennis I shouldn't have been involved at all.
- 16:01Speaker 1: But it did kind of rule.
- 16:02Speaker 2: It was like the perfect scene in like a sitcom comedy,
- 16:06Speaker 2: going I do and then sort of walking away and
- 16:08Speaker 2: we're like god.
- 16:11Speaker 1: And so Ace was kicked out. So that's when we
- 16:13Speaker 1: went and got paper. I'd say, slope it up. And
- 16:16Speaker 1: it came to the rescue. They did, and it's fantastic, champagne.
- 16:19Speaker 1: We went and sat on the balcony with a kind
- 16:20Speaker 1: of a core crew.
- 16:21Speaker 2: And had a better time and pretty much just spoke
- 16:24Speaker 2: about Blinda the whole time.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Yeah, well, Blinda, her story is not done yet, because
- 16:28Speaker 1: that's a big part of it. We got word that
- 16:31Speaker 1: we were in for the men's final.
- 16:34Speaker 2: So he from nowhere. Errol just is like, I got
- 16:37Speaker 2: his tickets. We're in, and we said an ace van
- 16:40Speaker 2: and he said no, and we were and we had
- 16:48Speaker 2: to cut ace manalers and we are sorry, but you're
- 16:52Speaker 2: not going to pass up a Grand Stone final basically.
- 16:55Speaker 2: So Eryl comes through and so we're all having a drink,
- 16:57Speaker 2: We're getting excited, and Errol's like, we have to go
- 17:01Speaker 2: and get out. Our passes is validated and they'll put
- 17:04Speaker 2: us on the list. So then we have to.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Put a certain number on your accreditation pass on a
- 17:09Speaker 1: list to make sure you can get into the men's
- 17:11Speaker 1: fire Yeah right, yeah, yeah yeah, And so we go
- 17:13Speaker 1: up to the counter. Yea.
- 17:15Speaker 2: So we have to go to a different part of
- 17:16Speaker 2: this whole complex to go to this different counter to
- 17:19Speaker 2: get there.
- 17:20Speaker 1: We're a bit nervous.
- 17:21Speaker 2: We'll like god, you know, because you still don't know
- 17:22Speaker 2: if it's going to happen or it's going to happen.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Who do we see in charge of the media passes, Blinda,
- 17:31Speaker 2: my heart. You immediately look at me and like if
- 17:37Speaker 2: you think I handled it badly trying to get a
- 17:39Speaker 2: free Japanese beer from the media drinks.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I was like, aboard, aboard, abot, we have to leave,
- 17:45Speaker 1: we have to leave.
- 17:47Speaker 2: And she couldn't look us in the eye. She didn't
- 17:51Speaker 2: even say hello. No, she acted like we'd never met.
- 17:53Speaker 1: No, yeah, she didn't know. I was so close to
- 17:56Speaker 1: being like, oh, you know the pretty woman moment. Yeah,
- 18:00Speaker 1: big mistake, Yeah, Hugh, exactly, we're the do not realize
- 18:05Speaker 1: who you messed with, Linda, and we're buzzing on the
- 18:10Speaker 1: best bubbly in the world.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Or just like pyper hard sick drunk, We're having the
- 18:15Speaker 2: time of our lot.
- 18:15Speaker 1: You wouldn't even give us a warm reasoning. So we
- 18:21Speaker 1: got into the final.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a long way of saying we got in
- 18:25Speaker 2: and it was fantastic. We're up there, we're in the
- 18:27Speaker 2: seats US three, Errol. We don't know what happened to
- 18:31Speaker 2: ace Man. I think we had to cut him loose.
- 18:33Speaker 1: So we're in the media section again, where you're not
- 18:35Speaker 1: allowed to show emotion.
- 18:37Speaker 2: No, you can't do anything. And that was particularly hard
- 18:39Speaker 2: because the great folk there at Tennis Australia did something brilliant.
- 18:42Speaker 2: They brought out Sophie Ellis Baxter to sing her smash
- 18:45Speaker 2: hit murder on the Dens floor, no stage, just her
- 18:49Speaker 2: and heels alone in the middle of the court.
- 18:52Speaker 1: If I could be in Sovielle's Baxter's ear, I would
- 18:55Speaker 1: have been like, make it tennis, make it murder on
- 18:58Speaker 1: the hard court. Yeah, that would have been great. You're
- 19:00Speaker 1: also in the mindset of writing a parody tennis song
- 19:02Speaker 1: a day every morning, which I'm saving Jess for Grand Slams.
- 19:08Speaker 1: So yeah, she was the opening act, came out, did
- 19:11Speaker 1: one song. It was fantastic, crazy state. The media section
- 19:16Speaker 1: is popping off at this point. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I
- 19:18Speaker 1: think you could show emotion for the pre match that's allowed.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I think so well. I mean we were singing along,
- 19:24Speaker 1: we were standing, singing, hugging, but there so they had
- 19:29Speaker 1: the roofs slightly open for the Alcoraz Djokovic match, which
- 19:35Speaker 1: you know, it's some table setting. It's a historic match.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Was Djokovic going for twenty five and Alcaraz going to
- 19:42Speaker 1: gunning to be the youngest you ever get the career slam.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Absolutely, and when they came out it was quite fascinating
- 19:49Speaker 2: to see who was going to have more support. Yeah,
- 19:52Speaker 2: and it pretty quickly became clear it was Novak. He
- 19:57Speaker 2: got a bigger cheer. Maybe it was like sixty forty
- 19:59Speaker 2: his way from the crowd. It is funny that he
- 20:02Speaker 2: felt like Ozzie Novak for a moment. I was like, oh,
- 20:04Speaker 2: good to know we've still got to play it going
- 20:06Speaker 2: in the tournament. Yeah, because people you just heard the
- 20:08Speaker 2: most Aussi.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Being like, you can do a Novak mate, come on
- 20:12Speaker 1: throughout the match. Chance of Novak, Yeah, I think it's
- 20:18Speaker 1: people want to see the old guy win another one,
- 20:20Speaker 1: you know, I think so. I think it was a
- 20:22Speaker 1: stadium full of people who are vicariously rejecting the grim
- 20:28Speaker 1: specter of death.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Wow, that was beautiful and look, I do think there
- 20:34Speaker 2: is something in that also like that. I think people
- 20:36Speaker 2: want to know, like they just want to win for
- 20:37Speaker 2: the old guy. When he was top dog, people didn't
- 20:40Speaker 2: like him and now underdog.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Great story. It's like everyone's the bloody love that bloke.
- 20:44Speaker 2: And I think he's in the right way, it's got
- 20:45Speaker 2: the right attitude, does everything correct.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Well. I think everyone saw the press conference where he
- 20:52Speaker 1: was accused of always chasing his entire career. Yeah, and
- 20:55Speaker 1: people are like what.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean yeah, even the most rusted on Novak
- 20:59Speaker 2: hater would be like, I mean, give the gud break.
- 21:01Speaker 1: So the cheers were big for Novak upon arrival into
- 21:05Speaker 1: the stadium. Uh, the chair umpire was Ozzie, Yeah John,
- 21:09Speaker 1: Big John, Big John's John. So like when the crowd
- 21:11Speaker 1: got a bit rowdy.
- 21:12Speaker 2: He was like, oh, come on, guys, dude, I'll get
- 21:14Speaker 2: the secies to kick you out.
- 21:16Speaker 1: He said that at one point.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Now he is doing like the ambiguous kind of European
- 21:22Speaker 2: esl kind of voice the whole time. But he did
- 21:25Speaker 2: break at one point and he said, he goes, come on, guys,
- 21:30Speaker 2: I know you're excited, but please don't call out.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Lady, don't know if you can call out during the mooins,
- 21:35Speaker 1: you will be sent out and that will ruin your night.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Please don't do it. And it was great and you
- 21:41Speaker 1: heard the Aussie accent come out in that his Chubb
- 21:44Speaker 1: clothes call was yeah nah ah. So should we get
- 21:51Speaker 1: into the details of the man I'd love to I'd
- 21:54Speaker 1: love I mean, we've already talked for so long, like
- 21:58Speaker 1: I think the obviously everyone know was the result. It
- 22:01Speaker 1: was Carlitos in four sets, but the first set was
- 22:05Speaker 1: vintage Djokovic going for broke redlining.
- 22:09Speaker 2: His game, unbelievable, flawless at a tennis he was serving
- 22:13Speaker 2: at like ninety percent. It was ninety three percent, Like
- 22:15Speaker 2: into the six game he won something. It was just crazy.
- 22:18Speaker 2: He was just like an immovable force.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Yeah, Carlos like rattled. Well, I think you would be.
- 22:24Speaker 1: He came out number one. They're cheering for him.
- 22:26Speaker 2: For Novak, I think he would have been maybe not
- 22:28Speaker 2: prepared for that, not used to it, not used to
- 22:30Speaker 2: it at all.
- 22:31Speaker 1: It's just the most lovable guy of all time.
- 22:34Speaker 2: And then Novak just comes out playing like a twenty
- 22:37Speaker 2: two year old whipper snapper at the top of his game,
- 22:39Speaker 2: and it was it was also it was yeah.
- 22:42Speaker 1: It was unreal that first set, like I loved I mean,
- 22:45Speaker 1: the first set and the four set were the best, Yeah, totally.
- 22:47Speaker 2: But then the second set, it just the switch flicked immediately.
- 22:50Speaker 2: And then Carlitos kind of stood up and started playing
- 22:53Speaker 2: better tennis.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Is that a fitness thing? Do you think?
- 22:56Speaker 2: I feel like I said this to you, and I
- 22:58Speaker 2: felt like I think Nova was like, I'm not going
- 23:01Speaker 2: to win straight sets at some point, He's going to
- 23:03Speaker 2: bring the heat. It's a game of momentum, and I
- 23:05Speaker 2: think I don't know. Maybe he could have kept pushing,
- 23:08Speaker 2: but maybe he knew his fitness wasn't. Ultimately, it could
- 23:10Speaker 2: be fitness that kind of got him at the at
- 23:12Speaker 2: the end if you look at the kind of the
- 23:13Speaker 2: last few points of the match. So maybe just the
- 23:16Speaker 2: burn happened a bit, and he was like, I need
- 23:18Speaker 2: to conserve energy because we went six to again the
- 23:20Speaker 2: opposite direction in the second.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was a thirty eight year old playing
- 23:24Speaker 1: a twenty two year old, and you like, redline your
- 23:26Speaker 1: game for the first set, and then Carlo's weather's the storm,
- 23:29Speaker 1: and then he locks in and then takes the next
- 23:31Speaker 1: two sets pretty handily, pretty easy. Yeah, and then.
- 23:36Speaker 2: It felt different the fourth though, the start of the
- 23:39Speaker 2: fourth felt different. Yeah, we'd gotten hot chips as well,
- 23:41Speaker 2: that could be why, but also the energy seemed to we.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Were not allowed to enjoy the hot chips and media.
- 23:47Speaker 2: We had to eat them and then grimmas and it's disgusting. Yeah,
- 23:52Speaker 2: and then uh, it's yuck.
- 23:54Speaker 1: The journalists around us not the biggest fans of PODLB arena, Well,
- 24:00Speaker 1: you were on the other side of me.
- 24:02Speaker 2: But at one point I was I turned to talk
- 24:04Speaker 2: to Catherine Murphy ABC, news sports journal behind me, and
- 24:08Speaker 2: I said, look, I've been a tennis journalist for five days,
- 24:10Speaker 2: but I think this is definitely going to five sets.
- 24:13Speaker 2: And these two guys on laptops, he's actually journals looked
- 24:15Speaker 2: at me and went.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Rolled their roll their eyes of me, and then Belinda
- 24:23Speaker 1: came in and kicked you with me, kicked me in
- 24:25Speaker 1: their head. That's for existing. Yeah. So the next two sets, Carlos,
- 24:31Speaker 1: I mean some unreal rallies. Absolutely, one that stands out
- 24:35Speaker 1: for me is Jokovic, Uh crazy defense and then hits
- 24:39Speaker 1: around around the post, around the post backhand, which would
- 24:44Speaker 1: be a winner against everyone else on the plane, but
- 24:48Speaker 1: somehow Carlos just appears and then just flicks it back
- 24:51Speaker 1: into the court. And it was the craziest rally.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Carlos was always out of position, and then Novak was
- 24:57Speaker 2: out of position, but Carlitos, he still felt like he
- 25:00Speaker 2: was sort of had a grip on it, and you know,
- 25:02Speaker 2: you say to yourself, you like, get there, and then
- 25:03Speaker 2: you're like, oh, he got there easy.
- 25:05Speaker 1: All of the time in these rallies, he was crazy
- 25:07Speaker 1: anticipation of where even around the post backhand. Yeah, he
- 25:10Speaker 1: just like how did he get there? Yeah, the post
- 25:12Speaker 1: in the way he materializes and then Djokovic hams it
- 25:16Speaker 1: up like he went once. Carlos won that point off
- 25:19Speaker 1: the best shot I think of the tournament. Uh. Novak
- 25:25Speaker 1: like just looks up in the air and like scowls
- 25:27Speaker 1: and like, yeah it plays it up, like what can
- 25:30Speaker 1: I can you do? Yeah?
- 25:31Speaker 2: Yeah, you can't get it past this guy. It's like
- 25:33Speaker 2: me when I'm playing you a pickle ball. I look
- 25:35Speaker 2: up to the guy and I said, what can I do?
- 25:36Speaker 1: This guy is? He's too good? Thank you? And they
- 25:40Speaker 1: thank you. Uh. The four set crowd chanting Novak in
- 25:45Speaker 1: his first service game, it was crazy goose bump stuff,
- 25:48Speaker 1: goose bump stuff. It like goes to four four. To me,
- 25:51Speaker 1: the foreset was the most compelling in the past. Novak's
- 25:53Speaker 1: revving the crowd up as well.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Yeah, which is like the scenes you just don't think
- 25:56Speaker 2: you'd see in Australia. He's standing looking back up. The
- 26:00Speaker 2: crowd just been like come on, let's go there, cheering.
- 26:02Speaker 1: It was a crazy sight to see. I loved it. Yeah,
- 26:06Speaker 1: but he had break points and couldn't convert, couldn't do it,
- 26:09Speaker 1: and so I went to seven to five. Carlos Algarez,
- 26:12Speaker 1: champion of the Australian Open. Well, there was that.
- 26:15Speaker 2: I think it was a twenty four shot rally in
- 26:19Speaker 2: the last game, and Carlos came out on top as
- 26:22Speaker 2: he kind of did as the match kind of kept
- 26:24Speaker 2: emerging those key moments, Colitos would kind of win. And
- 26:27Speaker 2: I just think if Novak had won that point, he
- 26:31Speaker 2: wouldn't have been like as like he would have been exhausted.
- 26:34Speaker 2: He's a thirty eight year old man, but I think
- 26:36Speaker 2: he would have been like buoyed by the success of
- 26:38Speaker 2: winning the point that he wouldn't have been feeling it
- 26:40Speaker 2: as much, maybe more adrenaline. He was defeated, and then
- 26:42Speaker 2: you saw him really gasping air trying to get the
- 26:45Speaker 2: second serve.
- 26:46Speaker 1: And it was it was kind of done at that moment. Yeah, yeah,
- 26:50Speaker 1: it was. And I realized at the start of the
- 26:54Speaker 1: four set, even though my prediction was Carlos and four,
- 26:56Speaker 1: I not that correct as well. So I called both
- 26:58Speaker 1: finals so as commentary and inside is better than probably
- 27:02Speaker 1: Andy Raddix or anyone else. Yeah, I think so who
- 27:05Speaker 1: was a tennis podcast, But I realized.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Right in if you'd agree with that as well, through
- 27:10Speaker 2: how we messa all those emails.
- 27:12Speaker 1: I realized throughout the match how badly I wanted Jokovic
- 27:16Speaker 1: to win.
- 27:16Speaker 2: That's exactly how I felt like as soon as it
- 27:18Speaker 2: started and I said yesterday I wanted Carlos to win.
- 27:21Speaker 2: I was like, I feel like that's a better story
- 27:23Speaker 2: for me going forward.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Do you think the old lady changed her mind?
- 27:27Speaker 1: The old lady?
- 27:28Speaker 2: Well, I thought the old lady was possessed by some
- 27:30Speaker 2: of the kind of demon at some point. I'm not
- 27:32Speaker 2: putting it all on the old lady. No, as soon
- 27:34Speaker 2: as I walked out, it became apparent that I wanted
- 27:37Speaker 2: no Back to win.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Yeah, does he win another Slam? Does he get through
- 27:41Speaker 1: alcahaz and Center? No, No, I don't think so. Twenty four.
- 27:45Speaker 1: I think it's done.
- 27:46Speaker 2: And I thought his post match interview, I thought he
- 27:51Speaker 2: was funny. That's the first thing, because I'm often very
- 27:54Speaker 2: critical of tennis players getting.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Very easy laughs out there.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Yeah, but legit, some funny bits, some funny jokes.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Well, there was a boat style the borat joke, which
- 28:04Speaker 1: we love here at Paul Liver Arena.
- 28:06Speaker 4: I mean, you're so young, you have a lot of time,
- 28:09Speaker 4: like myself, So I'm sure we'll be seeing each other
- 28:13Speaker 4: many more times in the next ten years.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Ago not.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Yeah, not I mean real funny, Not.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Mike, I've loved doing the podcast with you this week.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Not dude, he's killing up there. Not bring Borack jokes back.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Dude, not as amazing. It's like we used to say
- 28:44Speaker 1: in the nineties, I'm old right, total yeah, And it
- 28:47Speaker 1: was like I'm happy for you, not not yeah, yeah, yeah, Oh,
- 28:52Speaker 1: I'm so glad you got the youngest guy to win
- 28:55Speaker 1: the career Slam.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Not I want you to beat all my records, I think,
- 29:02Speaker 2: but I thought, you know, in that great joke, there's
- 29:04Speaker 2: often a lot of truth in humor. I think he's
- 29:08Speaker 2: he acknowledges he's done. He also said he kind of
- 29:10Speaker 2: didn't even really see himself making the final.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Yeah, and then he kind of.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Had this weird ambiguous thing at the end where he's like,
- 29:17Speaker 2: I don't know what's going to happen, and you're like.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Are you okay? I think that's good, though, what's going on?
- 29:22Speaker 1: Because I think he wants to you know, he's not
- 29:25Speaker 1: doing a victory lap yet of all the tournaments, and
- 29:28Speaker 1: I think he's getting to the finals, like I think
- 29:30Speaker 1: he's going to be around at least till the end
- 29:32Speaker 1: of next year.
- 29:32Speaker 2: So do you think he is going to do Yeah,
- 29:35Speaker 2: like you said, it's not the victory lap. Do you
- 29:37Speaker 2: think he will hang on and bow out in the
- 29:39Speaker 2: early stages of tournaments and he will be comfortable that
- 29:42Speaker 2: or do you think he wants to go out while
- 29:43Speaker 2: he's still you know, in the top handful of guys.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Well, let's talk about the fact that Rafa was sitting
- 29:49Speaker 1: behind him. You know, it was in rod Labors. See,
- 29:52Speaker 1: it was in well two down from road Laby. Oh.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Rod was watching from the comfort of his mansion, watching
- 30:00Speaker 1: from the son I'm a celeb, I believe. Oh really, yeah,
- 30:03Speaker 1: he really is taken to it.
- 30:05Speaker 2: He loves he loves Jetta Cristo.
- 30:10Speaker 1: She loves how open she is on the show. Rafa's
- 30:15Speaker 1: sitting behind him, one of his greatest rivals. What would
- 30:18Speaker 1: that do if, like your biggest rival was and then
- 30:23Speaker 1: you see he's been put out the pasture, he's sitting there,
- 30:26Speaker 1: he's the he's out here to sign a Kia or whatever.
- 30:30Speaker 1: And we love fans of terrific speech. We'll get to that.
- 30:36Speaker 1: I mean, like, say, your biggest rival was sitting front
- 30:39Speaker 1: row at every comedy show you did. So it happens often.
- 30:42Speaker 2: You buy a ticket and I'm like, hey, that was
- 30:46Speaker 2: a good joke, Mat Matt actually the best heckle. If
- 30:52Speaker 2: you want to heckle a comedian, just do that, Like
- 30:54Speaker 2: that's really funny.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Nat. So he's seen Rafa, he's not ready to be
- 31:00Speaker 1: in that seat. He's not ready to be sitting there
- 31:02Speaker 1: watching the or he's like, it looks pretty good. On
- 31:05Speaker 1: the other side, Just do you think heep bringing you out?
- 31:09Speaker 1: These guys have the competitive drive and they want to
- 31:12Speaker 1: compete that well, I get I guess it must be.
- 31:14Speaker 2: I was thinking it could be hard for Raffa because
- 31:17Speaker 2: he's sitting there. He's not that far removed from No
- 31:20Speaker 2: bec is hoy high level tennis.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Who Rafa, That's what I mean, Like he's been retired.
- 31:25Speaker 2: But I'm saying, like, yeah, it's not like it's the
- 31:28Speaker 2: far far past where he was like the best player
- 31:31Speaker 2: in the world or one of.
- 31:31Speaker 1: The best players. We won this a few years ago.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Totally, That's what I mean. So it's like he must
- 31:35Speaker 2: be like, must be hard watching you want to get out.
- 31:37Speaker 1: But I'm going to say it right here. Novek is
- 31:40Speaker 1: holding onto his career harder than Rafa is holding onto
- 31:44Speaker 1: his hairline. You've heard it here? Is that where we
- 31:49Speaker 1: were going? Yeah, I was trying to get there. Why
- 31:53Speaker 1: did you tell me? You should have told me otherwise.
- 31:54Speaker 1: I'm just getting in there, shutting away. No, no, but
- 31:58Speaker 1: I do think. And Rafa said before the match that
- 32:00Speaker 1: he supports Carlos and people are like, oh, why would
- 32:03Speaker 1: you say this? Of course he says that they're both Spanish. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:08Speaker 1: And then we spotted Raffa where he was sitting. It
- 32:13Speaker 1: was hard not to.
- 32:14Speaker 2: It looked like there was another bloodlight down the bottom
- 32:16Speaker 2: in the crowd.
- 32:19Speaker 1: It was bouncing off his bald well.
- 32:21Speaker 2: We were behind him, and so the little crown was
- 32:24Speaker 2: just it's all you could really see. There was never
- 32:27Speaker 2: a real thing of like, oh, where's Raffa? Can we
- 32:29Speaker 2: spot Raffa in the grady?
- 32:30Speaker 1: There he is. You see that thing illuminating up from
- 32:33Speaker 1: the darkness. A few things from like around the turn
- 32:39Speaker 1: well around the final match. Novak pre match. I don't
- 32:44Speaker 1: know if you saw this of his trainer giving him
- 32:46Speaker 1: a head massage and whispering in his ear. It is
- 32:49Speaker 1: it is beautiful, right, I mean, I'd kill for that.
- 32:55Speaker 2: It's so, it's been doing something similar to me before
- 32:58Speaker 2: every record call. Yeah, and then he starts to whispering.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Look at this. Do you ask for it or does
- 33:04Speaker 1: he just start doing it?
- 33:06Speaker 2: I think you no, I don't ask for it.
- 33:10Speaker 1: I actually have a strict.
- 33:11Speaker 2: No touching policy, which he just continues to violate. You
- 33:15Speaker 2: know what he was I can lip read. Do you
- 33:16Speaker 2: know what he was saying?
- 33:17Speaker 1: What he was like? You have to check out this podcast.
- 33:19Speaker 1: It's called pod Labor, right, all the best stuff he's like.
- 33:22Speaker 2: It's fun, it's kind of informative. Yeah, it's a great
- 33:25Speaker 2: new take on tennis, right, going weekly.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Uh, the Kia ambassador gave a speech. This is always
- 33:31Speaker 1: what I'm most excited for. Of course, every open is
- 33:36Speaker 1: what the Kia ambassador is going to say at the
- 33:39Speaker 1: end of the match.
- 33:40Speaker 2: I love Keya. Obviously they're without them, this tournament couldn't exist.
- 33:44Speaker 2: But I would just love one year for him to go, yeah,
- 33:47Speaker 2: look we didn't nail it this year, pretty rough tournament
- 33:50Speaker 2: and then walk off.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Just spice it up. Should we have a look at
- 33:53Speaker 1: what happened during his spare?
- 33:54Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, Today Kea stands as a global leader in
- 33:58Speaker 3: mobility and in shaping the future.
- 34:04Speaker 4: Together with the Australian Open.
- 34:07Speaker 1: He loves it. He loves it. So if you didn't
- 34:10Speaker 1: hear that properly he's saying today, and then someone heckles
- 34:16Speaker 1: from they yelled out boring, awesome, so good, yeah, so good.
- 34:20Speaker 1: It only could have been better if than he yelled back,
- 34:22Speaker 1: the key guy not.
- 34:27Speaker 2: And he kind of smirks, he smokes. He liked it
- 34:29Speaker 2: because he would know that no one is really hanging.
- 34:32Speaker 2: There might be one or two car tennis crossover heads
- 34:37Speaker 2: that really want to hear what he's got to say,
- 34:38Speaker 2: but for the most part, everyone's like, can you hurry up?
- 34:40Speaker 1: Man, can you hurry up? I love the Lord. The
- 34:43Speaker 1: Men's Final the most expensive ticket for anything ever, So
- 34:47Speaker 1: someone just paid top dollar at the heckle boring. Yeah,
- 34:51Speaker 1: it's boring, boring, boring. Hey, it's Brett and Lexi from
- 34:56Speaker 1: the AO Rap podcast.
- 34:58Speaker 3: We admit Mike and Lizzie are hilarious, but if you've
- 35:01Speaker 3: heard enough of them banging on and just want to
- 35:03Speaker 3: hear some actual tennis talk, match analysis and reaction, come
- 35:07Speaker 3: and hang with us every day of the Main Draw.
- 35:10Speaker 2: The IRAP available wherever you get your podcast time.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Podlabor Arena is absolutely killing it. That's not me being
- 35:18Speaker 1: sarcastic at all. We're up to number twelve. That's crazy
- 35:22Speaker 1: in the podcast charts. That's huge.
- 35:24Speaker 2: It's actually like, I'm quite shocked, and it's kind of
- 35:28Speaker 2: cool that.
- 35:28Speaker 1: People are out there listening to it. Take that Belinda Belinda.
- 35:31Speaker 2: And doesn't listen. I think I know what podcast she
- 35:34Speaker 2: listens to.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Actually, Andy Roddickson. Yeah, because he's number five, but he's
- 35:39Speaker 1: also a Grand Slam champion who is very insightful and
- 35:42Speaker 1: gives an amazing commentary game. Pretty funny for a professional athlete.
- 35:46Speaker 1: But you're not going to hear Chod jokes.
- 35:48Speaker 2: When he doesn't have any chode or fridge Guy song.
- 35:51Speaker 2: He has no hot take on Chubb close call does he?
- 35:53Speaker 1: He would never sing a song. He would never sing
- 35:55Speaker 1: a song. So thank you everyone so much, Andy Rodder,
- 36:01Speaker 1: and tell everybody to listen to the pod because we
- 36:04Speaker 1: will be going weekly.
- 36:05Speaker 2: We will, And tell everyone not to listen to Andy
- 36:07Speaker 2: Rottick please.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Yeah, and we're getting Lizzie Hubeck fantastic. Yeah she was
- 36:12Speaker 1: she on Andy Ronnicks podcast. Yeah she was.
- 36:14Speaker 2: She left us to do an erotics and she's kind
- 36:17Speaker 2: of come crawling back, and she's coming crawling back for
- 36:19Speaker 2: our weekly editions, and then I'll be over for Indian Wells,
- 36:22Speaker 2: so I'll be reporting on the ground on the ground.
- 36:25Speaker 2: You got and you've got meteor cred so we can
- 36:27Speaker 2: send you around.
- 36:28Speaker 1: I would love media cred. I'm just a punter at
- 36:30Speaker 1: this point.
- 36:31Speaker 2: Oh okay, you're one of the people the mighty have fallen.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Dude. This is like I think we've said it before,
- 36:37Speaker 1: but this tournament for us, with all the cred and
- 36:39Speaker 1: access has been like flying business class on a long
- 36:42Speaker 1: haul flight. It is amazing. You can never go back,
- 36:45Speaker 1: but I'm going to go back to, you know, the
- 36:47Speaker 1: working class seats.
- 36:49Speaker 2: I think nothing will make Belinda happier than hearing that.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Sam. So awesome to have you on board for the
- 36:56Speaker 1: final week and going forward. What was your highlights of
- 37:00Speaker 1: the tournament.
- 37:02Speaker 2: I mean, look, I can't go past getting to go
- 37:05Speaker 2: to a Grand Slam final like that is just a crazy,
- 37:08Speaker 2: once in a lifetime experience.
- 37:09Speaker 1: So that is going to stay with me forever.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Meeting people is just like meeting tennis players is just
- 37:15Speaker 2: crazy from a real personal perspective.
- 37:17Speaker 1: It's great though, I mean, you almost left during the
- 37:20Speaker 1: final to have beef boy with your girl friend.
- 37:25Speaker 2: My actual highlight is when you were teasing me about
- 37:28Speaker 2: going to leave, and you said you're going to leave
- 37:30Speaker 2: to have and you were flailing and you got some
- 37:32Speaker 2: strawberry pasta.
- 37:34Speaker 1: That's a thing? Is it a thing? Shavantek said, she
- 37:37Speaker 1: eats strawberry pasta. And if you were here for the
- 37:40Speaker 1: first week, well, I wasn't here for the first week.
- 37:42Speaker 1: You should have been listening to the show.
- 37:43Speaker 2: I was listening in patches, but Roddick was on a
- 37:46Speaker 2: real hot streak with his show. Thanks for bringing me in,
- 37:49Speaker 2: mat though, I've loved it. What's pin your highlight?
- 37:51Speaker 1: My highlight outside of the semifinals Verev and Alkoraz that
- 37:55Speaker 1: we were there for that was like probably the most
- 37:58Speaker 1: fun I've ever had watching a tennis match, despite you
- 38:01Speaker 1: saying you were going to leave. I think that's why
- 38:04Speaker 1: you have fun, that you were going to leave to
- 38:08Speaker 1: have English muffins. I thought the Varenka story from the
- 38:13Speaker 1: first week and watching him win that five center against
- 38:16Speaker 1: uh yeah the French player seems like so long ago.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Oh I know, yeah, yeah, yeah, It's been amazing though, Like, yeah,
- 38:23Speaker 1: so the Verenka storyline was great. Watching Rebecca just inform
- 38:29Speaker 1: just storm through the tournament was awesome. And uh, just
- 38:32Speaker 1: a friendship. It's about the friend you make along the way.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Speaking of one of the best friends we made along
- 38:41Speaker 1: the way, our friend sound guy, our cameraman. We love
- 38:45Speaker 1: this guy. Yeah, he's a king. And when we finished yesterday,
- 38:49Speaker 1: we were like just walking around looking at the rooms.
- 38:52Speaker 1: We haven't been in it. Yeah, just like exploring. And
- 38:55Speaker 1: we went into the main presser room. It's huge, it's
- 38:58Speaker 1: like a big theater.
- 39:00Speaker 2: It's like a university theater or so it's you could
- 39:02Speaker 2: see maybe three hundred people in there.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Yeah. So we went across into the huge press conference
- 39:07Speaker 1: theater and it's massive. It's so funny. It's massive. It's
- 39:10Speaker 1: got the big branded wall behind you, and we're we're
- 39:13Speaker 1: getting pictures ha ha, pretending to do press conferences. And
- 39:17Speaker 1: then we just go a so have a seat, and
- 39:19Speaker 1: then well we'll grill you. Well, you know, we'll say
- 39:21Speaker 1: you've had a loss, and we'll throw some questions at you.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Just completely mucking around for no purpose at all, really,
- 39:28Speaker 2: just to have a bit of fun.
- 39:29Speaker 1: We I guess disregarded or willfully ignored the signs that
- 39:33Speaker 1: said this is a live feed at all.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Times, twenty four hour live feed. And I don't know
- 39:40Speaker 2: if I didn't see it all the way in, but
- 39:42Speaker 2: I think Eights.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Probably knew about it. He should have anyway, So he
- 39:45Speaker 1: sits down.
- 39:46Speaker 2: We started throwing dumb questions at him, being like, yeah,
- 39:48Speaker 2: what about the last he is saying stuff, it's pretty funny,
- 39:51Speaker 2: We'll see it. Yeah, I think we just played. This
- 39:53Speaker 2: is actually the best moment of the tournament because this
- 39:56Speaker 2: went live to the ground to the ground, so anyone
- 40:00Speaker 2: it was at Melbourne Park in front of the screen
- 40:01Speaker 2: just saw Ace Man and we didn't realize until we
- 40:05Speaker 2: started getting text messages being like, yo, why is he.
- 40:08Speaker 1: He got a text from his big boss, like with
- 40:11Speaker 1: just a screenshot of him doing the presser, and then
- 40:15Speaker 1: like we look outside and like the whole of Melbourne
- 40:18Speaker 1: Grounds is transfixed by what is going on. Ace's presser
- 40:24Speaker 1: is one of my favorite parts of the Tournamently.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it felt like that moment and it Star is born.
- 40:28Speaker 2: When Lady Gagaa walks on, You're like, this guy is
- 40:30Speaker 2: gonna be massive.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, So it went to every TV on the
- 40:34Speaker 1: grounds and like people. I mean, it's gonna go viral.
- 40:38Speaker 1: I think so, I think, And I saw the because
- 40:42Speaker 1: we were you know, we were part of it. Yeah,
- 40:44Speaker 1: but then I saw the interview properly and it's it's
- 40:47Speaker 1: so funny, it holds up, it's red hot, and it's like,
- 40:50Speaker 1: you're so endearing, Ace. We loved you from day one, man,
- 40:54Speaker 1: And this is how we want to close the AO.
- 40:57Speaker 1: I think so with the tribute to a man, A
- 41:00Speaker 1: bit to Ace Man. Well, this is uh, this is
- 41:02Speaker 1: his press conference. Enjoy.
- 41:06Speaker 4: Hello, thanks for coming to my press conference.
- 41:10Speaker 1: How did you get involved with Arena?
- 41:13Speaker 4: I got a call.
- 41:19Speaker 1: How do you feel about the loss today?
- 41:21Speaker 4: The loss devastating? You know, I thought I thought I
- 41:25Speaker 4: had him, and he surprised me with the lob and
- 41:33Speaker 4: my shoes. You know, the strings came undone and and
- 41:39Speaker 4: it got me tied up a little bit, and I felt.
- 41:42Speaker 1: You tied your strings together with your shoelaces.
- 41:44Speaker 4: My shoelace as well.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Yes, okay, fantastic, run us through. What happened when you
- 41:51Speaker 1: shoot your pants?
- 41:53Speaker 4: Well, I've had some Lentel and stomach is shoes, you
- 41:58Speaker 4: know in fetterants? Have you said? I don't speak bigod English. Sorry, uh,
- 42:05Speaker 4: And so I had some stomach problems and then I
- 42:09Speaker 4: took care of it during the sets. Yeah, I had
- 42:12Speaker 4: to make a quick dump, a quick dispatching.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Do you do you regret not using the bathroom to
- 42:18Speaker 2: do that quick dispatch and just doing it on cynecal.
- 42:22Speaker 5: I went to do that, but there was a line
- 42:26Speaker 5: and other people sitting. It's only two cubicles, so I
- 42:32Speaker 5: had to run back to the court.
- 42:37Speaker 1: You ran back court?
- 42:42Speaker 4: Well, I didn't want to get the time violation, so
- 42:45Speaker 4: I had to. I haven't seen the footage. Was it embarrassing?
- 42:55Speaker 4: Any other questions?
- 42:57Speaker 1: When did you learn what age was?
- 43:00Speaker 4: God? Uh? Not that long ago, just as the name suggests.
- 43:06Speaker 4: Ironically is that ironically? A good friend of mine, a comedian,
- 43:17Speaker 4: Michael Chokestein.
- 43:22Speaker 1: That was good what we're saying? Good for it?
- 43:27Speaker 6: Yeah, of course, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's how I learned it,
- 43:35Speaker 6: just about ten minutes ago.
- 43:38Speaker 4: Yeah. Where are we going with this press conference?
- 43:40Speaker 1: We'll ask the questions?
- 43:43Speaker 4: Sorry, yes, sure. Thanks to everyone who helped put this
- 43:48Speaker 4: event together. Special shout out to the Pod Dave Arena
- 43:53Speaker 4: people and quig Tylee and Shannon and Ewell and Mike
- 43:56Speaker 4: and Tim and Sam and Lizzie who and everyone thank
- 44:02Speaker 4: you for a great and amazing event.
- 44:05Speaker 1: While were weak yes, m hmmm,
