Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast. It comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland. The after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after Party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:35Speaker 1: the party. The bridge to get you from one full
- 0:37Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other. The backyard, to dig
- 0:40Speaker 1: into the dirt, our mission to uncover the truth, to
- 0:43Speaker 1: confront the myth, to reclaim the story. On this bonus episode,
- 0:46Speaker 1: we are discussing Lady gagat conspiracies, Kanye West's apology, and
- 0:50Speaker 1: in our exclusive section, we're gonna dig into the David
- 0:53Speaker 1: Bowie Kanye West conspiracy to end all conspiracies, plus tell
- 0:58Speaker 1: the stories they didn't want told, the kind you'll end
- 1:01Speaker 1: up telling someone else. All Right, this goes, Let's get
- 1:05Speaker 1: into it, okay. As noted in our recent episode on
- 1:21Speaker 1: Lady Gaga, the best conspiracy theories are fueled by bizarre truths,
- 1:27Speaker 1: which is why the Gaga conspiracy theories are compelling compared
- 1:30Speaker 1: to say, the conspiracy theories about Kanye West. The theory
- 1:35Speaker 1: that Kanye is a clone, the theory that Kanye is
- 1:39Speaker 1: Taylor Swift's protector, that Kanye is David Bowie's starman. This theory,
- 1:45Speaker 1: by the way, is batshit crazy, and Zeth and I
- 1:48Speaker 1: are unpacking it in the exclusive section of the After
- 1:52Speaker 1: Party that's coming up later. The Kanye Bowie theory aside, though,
- 1:57Speaker 1: there are also the numerous conspiracy theories Kanye himself has spread. Now.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Most are gross anti Semitic vitriol that I'm not going
- 2:07Speaker 1: to repeat here, but good examples of the awful behavior
- 2:13Speaker 1: that Kanye is now seeking to redeem himself of, and
- 2:18Speaker 1: that ladies and gentlemen is news. Okay, just this past Monday,
- 2:24Speaker 1: on January twenty fifth, twenty twenty six, Kanye, excuse me,
- 2:28Speaker 1: I keep calling him Kanye. I'm supposed to call him
- 2:30Speaker 1: ye or Yea or however the hell it's pronounced. I'm
- 2:33Speaker 1: calling him Kanye. Kanye took out a full page in
- 2:37Speaker 1: the Wall Street Journal earlier this week on Monday. Okay,
- 2:40Speaker 1: I'm going to read it in its entirety. Don't worry,
- 2:43Speaker 1: It's relatively short. But I'm doing this for a reason,
- 2:47Speaker 1: mainly because I want to know what you guys think
- 2:50Speaker 1: of this apology? Is it enough for you to forgive him?
- 2:55Speaker 1: I'm sure you're all aware of his transgressions, and he's
- 2:59Speaker 1: going to talk about the worst of them in this letter.
- 3:02Speaker 1: So I want to know if this apology, if it
- 3:06Speaker 1: if it holds up for you guys, if it carries
- 3:09Speaker 1: the water, and if not, why not. I'll let you
- 3:12Speaker 1: know my thoughts on the other end, all right? Like
- 3:15Speaker 1: I said, this is a paid advertisement in the Wall
- 3:17Speaker 1: Street Journal titled to Those I've Hurt by Ye Yay
- 3:23Speaker 1: I Can Never Get It Right, formerly known as Kanye West.
- 3:28Speaker 1: To Those I've Hurt. Twenty five years ago, I was
- 3:31Speaker 1: in a car accident that broke my jaw and caused
- 3:35Speaker 1: injury to the right frontal lobe of my brain. At
- 3:37Speaker 1: the time, the focus was on the visible damage, the fracture,
- 3:41Speaker 1: the swelling, and the immediate physical trauma. The deeper injury,
- 3:46Speaker 1: the one inside my skull, went on noticed. Comprehensive scans
- 3:51Speaker 1: were not done, neurological exams were limited, and the possibility
- 3:54Speaker 1: of a frontal lobe injury was never raised. It wasn't
- 3:57Speaker 1: properly diagnosed until twenty twenty three, and that medical oversight
- 4:02Speaker 1: cause serious damage to my mental health and let to
- 4:05Speaker 1: my bipolar type one diagnosis. Bipolar disorder comes with its
- 4:10Speaker 1: own defense system, denial. When your manic, you don't think
- 4:14Speaker 1: you're sick. You think everyone else is overreacting. You feel
- 4:18Speaker 1: like you're seeing the world more clearly than ever, when
- 4:21Speaker 1: in reality, you're losing your grip entirely. Once people label
- 4:25Speaker 1: you as crazy, you feel as if you cannot contribute
- 4:29Speaker 1: anything meaningful to the world. It's easy for people to
- 4:32Speaker 1: joke and laugh it off, when in fact this is
- 4:34Speaker 1: a very serious, debilitating disease you can die from. According
- 4:38Speaker 1: to the World Health Organization and Cambridge University, people with
- 4:42Speaker 1: bipolar disorder have a life expectancy that is shortened by
- 4:45Speaker 1: ten to fifteen years on average, and a two to
- 4:48Speaker 1: three times higher all cause mortality rate than the general population.
- 4:52Speaker 1: This is on par with severe heart disease, type one, diabetes, HIV,
- 4:55Speaker 1: and cancer, all lethal and fatal if left untreated. The
- 4:59Speaker 1: scariest thing about this disorder is how persuasive it is
- 5:03Speaker 1: when it tells you you do not need help. It
- 5:06Speaker 1: makes you blind, but convinced you have insight. You feel powerful, certain, unstoppable.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I lost touch with reality things got worse the longer
- 5:18Speaker 1: I ignored the problem. I said and did things I
- 5:22Speaker 1: deeply regret. Some of the people I love the most
- 5:24Speaker 1: I treated the worst. You endured fear, confusion, humiliation, and
- 5:29Speaker 1: the exhaustion of trying to have someone who was at
- 5:32Speaker 1: times unrecognizable looking back, I became detached from my true
- 5:37Speaker 1: self in that fractured state, I gravitated toward the most
- 5:41Speaker 1: destructive symbol I could find, the swastika, and even sold
- 5:46Speaker 1: T shirts bearing it. And one of the difficult aspects
- 5:49Speaker 1: of having bipolar type one are the disconnected moments, many
- 5:53Speaker 1: of which I still cannot recall, that led to poor
- 5:56Speaker 1: judgment and reckless behavior that oftentimes feels like an out
- 6:00Speaker 1: of body experience. I regret and in deeply mortified by
- 6:05Speaker 1: my actions in that state, and am committed to accountability,
- 6:10Speaker 1: treatment and meaningful change. It does not excuse what I did.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Though I am not a Nazi or an anti Semi.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I love Jewish people to the Black community, which held
- 6:23Speaker 1: me down through all the highs and lows and the
- 6:25Speaker 1: darkest of times. The Black community is unquestionably the foundation
- 6:29Speaker 1: of who I am. I am so sorry to have
- 6:32Speaker 1: let you down. I love us In early twenty twenty five,
- 6:36Speaker 1: I fell into a four month long manic episode of psychotic,
- 6:40Speaker 1: paranoid and impulsive behavior that destroyed my life. As the
- 6:44Speaker 1: situation became increasingly unsustainable, there were times I didn't want
- 6:49Speaker 1: to be here anymore. Having bipolar disorder is a notable
- 6:53Speaker 1: state of constant mental illness. When you go into a
- 6:56Speaker 1: manic episode, you are ill. At that point, when you
- 6:59Speaker 1: are not in an episode, you are completely normal, and
- 7:03Speaker 1: that's when the wreckage from the illness hits the hardest,
- 7:06Speaker 1: hitting rock bottom. A few months ago, my wife encouraged
- 7:08Speaker 1: me to finally get help. I have found comfort in
- 7:12Speaker 1: reddit forms of all places. Different people speak of being
- 7:15Speaker 1: in manic or depressive episodes of a similar nature. I
- 7:19Speaker 1: read their stories and realize that I was not alone.
- 7:22Speaker 1: It's not just me who ruins their entire life once
- 7:24Speaker 1: a year. Despite taking meds every day and being told
- 7:27Speaker 1: by the so called best doctors in the world that
- 7:29Speaker 1: I am not bipolar but merely experiencing symptoms of autism,
- 7:34Speaker 1: my words as a leader in my community have global
- 7:37Speaker 1: impact and influence. In my mania, I lost complete sight
- 7:41Speaker 1: of that. As I find my new baseline and new
- 7:45Speaker 1: center through an effective regime of medication, therapy, exercise, and
- 7:49Speaker 1: clean living. I have new found, much needed clarity. I
- 7:53Speaker 1: am pouring my energy into positive, meaningful art, music, clothing design,
- 7:56Speaker 1: and other new ideas to help the world. I'm not
- 7:59Speaker 1: asking for so empathy or a free pass, though I
- 8:02Speaker 1: aspire to earn your forgiveness. I write today simply to
- 8:06Speaker 1: ask for your patience and understanding as I find my
- 8:09Speaker 1: way home with love. Ye, So what do you think?
- 8:17Speaker 1: I really want to know, and I'm I'm hesitant to
- 8:20Speaker 1: let you know what I think because I don't want to.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I don't want to influence your opinion in any way.
- 8:27Speaker 1: And I guess I don't have I don't have a
- 8:31Speaker 1: firm take on this yet. You know, noticeably, the phrase
- 8:37Speaker 1: I'm sorry or I apologize is missing from that entire statement.
- 8:42Speaker 1: He does talk about earning our forgiveness, he does talk
- 8:49Speaker 1: about his regret over what he had said, and he
- 8:53Speaker 1: clearly damns and judges himself for it. So that could
- 8:58Speaker 1: just be a semantic thing. But everything else seems so
- 9:01Speaker 1: intentional in this letter that it also seems kind of
- 9:06Speaker 1: intentional that that phrase wasn't there. I don't know, I
- 9:11Speaker 1: don't know, I'm willing. I guess what I'm saying is,
- 9:13Speaker 1: I'm willing to give this guy the benefit of the doubt.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I think Kanye West is one of the greatest musical
- 9:19Speaker 1: artists from pop music that we've we've ever had. He's tremendous,
- 9:25Speaker 1: tremendously talented, you know, on the level with the great
- 9:29Speaker 1: greatest of all time. And I think what has happened
- 9:34Speaker 1: to him is to use a word intentionally disgraceful. And
- 9:42Speaker 1: you know, though I'm not part of the black community,
- 9:44Speaker 1: I do feel let down by him just as a
- 9:48Speaker 1: as not even as a Kanye fan, but just as
- 9:50Speaker 1: a fan of music. So I don't really know what
- 9:56Speaker 1: to make of this. I'm willing to give him the
- 9:58Speaker 1: benefit of the doubt. I'm trying try not to look
- 10:00Speaker 1: at this with one cynicism, because that's not that's not
- 10:06Speaker 1: my jam. That's not how I look at anything really
- 10:08Speaker 1: except politics. So it's a difficult one. I think what
- 10:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna do is, you know, I've done some some
- 10:18Speaker 1: thinking here. Okay, I've done very little research, but I've
- 10:22Speaker 1: done some thinking, and you know that thinking, you know,
- 10:25Speaker 1: let me. When I read this, I had a couple thoughts. First,
- 10:28Speaker 1: why now why is he doing this now? Second, is
- 10:32Speaker 1: Kanye broke And the answer to that question is no,
- 10:35Speaker 1: not even close. After his racist breakdown, his net worth
- 10:40Speaker 1: plummeted from two point seven billion down to an estimated
- 10:44Speaker 1: four hundred million. Now, Kanye disputes this valuation, pegging his
- 10:48Speaker 1: net worth himself closer to the original two billion, but
- 10:53Speaker 1: after losing valuable partnerships with Adidas the gap Balenciaga said,
- 10:57Speaker 1: I pronounce that bllan. It's hard to see how that
- 11:01Speaker 1: two bill number is even the less than two point
- 11:05Speaker 1: seven bill, the two bill number that Kanye is saying.
- 11:08Speaker 1: It's it's hard to see how that's accurate. But still,
- 11:11Speaker 1: even if it's just four hundred million, that's four hundred million.
- 11:14Speaker 1: And I don't care who you are, what type of
- 11:15Speaker 1: lifestyle you are used to, four hundred million is still
- 11:18Speaker 1: fuck you money. So no, Kanye West isn't broke and
- 11:22Speaker 1: he doesn't need the money here. So if it's not
- 11:24Speaker 1: the money, can we presume perhaps the Kanye, despite whatever
- 11:29Speaker 1: other selfish reasons he might have, social standing, access to
- 11:33Speaker 1: his kids, audience, growth, whatever, can we presume here that
- 11:37Speaker 1: he's being sincere that his bipolar condition is the actual
- 11:42Speaker 1: reason and that he's truly sorry. I can buy the excuse,
- 11:50Speaker 1: I guess I think, even though that's not what he's
- 11:53Speaker 1: calling it. I don't want to put words in his mouth.
- 11:55Speaker 1: He didn't really come out and literally say this is
- 11:58Speaker 1: the excuse, though he is giving. It is a reason.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Lots of people are sick, and Kanye West certainly seems
- 12:06Speaker 1: like he's one of them. But is he truly sorry that?
- 12:10Speaker 1: I don't know, but I hope so. So what I'm
- 12:13Speaker 1: gonna do is dig more into Kanye West and try
- 12:16Speaker 1: to find out all to say, it feels like there's
- 12:19Speaker 1: a Kanye West episode coming soon. In the meantime, however,
- 12:24Speaker 1: I want to know what you guys think of this apology.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Do you believe number one, do you believe his remorse
- 12:33Speaker 1: is sincere? And number two? Can you still listen to
- 12:36Speaker 1: his music? Either or both? Answers to six one seven
- 12:39Speaker 1: nine oh six six six three eight to let me
- 12:41Speaker 1: know and you might hear your answer on next week's
- 12:44Speaker 1: after Party Bonus episode. And don't sleep on this, David
- 12:48Speaker 1: Bowie Kanye West conspiracy theory that I mentioned earlier, Zeth

- 13:32Speaker 1: two part Lady Gaga episode is available right now for
- 13:35Speaker 1: you to check out. Coming up tomorrow in the rewind
- 13:37Speaker 1: slot is our Kendrick Lamar episode, and then next week
- 13:41Speaker 1: our brand new episode on Jane's Addiction. This is part
- 13:45Speaker 1: two of our Jan's Addiction story. We'll be rolling out
- 13:48Speaker 1: Part one on Monday from our archive as a refresher,
- 13:52Speaker 1: and then the new Jane' Ediction story on the grimy
- 13:55Speaker 1: true crime origins of the band will hit on Tuesday.
- 13:57Speaker 1: So when you're listening to Jane's edition, part to be
- 14:00Speaker 1: thinking about which band best embodies the nineteen nineties? Is
- 14:04Speaker 1: it Jane's addiction? Now hold up. I know some of
- 14:07Speaker 1: you are going to go straight to Nirvana or to
- 14:10Speaker 1: another Seattle band, but without Jane's addiction paving the way
- 14:13Speaker 1: through the mainstream First, As we discussed in this coming episode,
- 14:17Speaker 1: it's hard to imagine Nirvana or anyone else breaking out
- 14:21Speaker 1: in that most glorious decade. So the question is which
- 14:26Speaker 1: band best embodies the nineties? For you, guys, text me
- 14:30Speaker 1: or call me and leave me a voicemail six one
- 14:32Speaker 1: seven nine oh six six six three eight, and you
- 14:34Speaker 1: might just hear your answer on next week's after party.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Coming up your answers to last week's Question of the
- 14:40Speaker 1: week right after this. All right, guys, we are back
- 15:03Speaker 1: six one seven nine oh six six six three eight.
- 15:05Speaker 1: You guys, want to send me a voicemail. You want
- 15:08Speaker 1: to leave me a message, You want to answer one
- 15:10Speaker 1: of our questions, the question of the week. You want
- 15:13Speaker 1: to send me a text? All that through six one
- 15:16Speaker 1: seven nine oh six six six three eight. You want
- 15:19Speaker 1: to connect with me in any way, that is the
- 15:21Speaker 1: best way to do it. Let's check out this voicemail.
- 15:24Speaker 1: It's a long one, but it's a good one, this
- 15:25Speaker 1: one from the nine to one six.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Jake, this is mister Taylor from Raleigh, North Carolina calling
- 15:32Speaker 2: in about last week's bonus episode about the Grammys and
- 15:37Speaker 2: then the Grammys are iconic. You know, I agree with
- 15:41Speaker 2: your take that it's a mess. It's totally unrepresentative of
- 15:46Speaker 2: what the fans really care about. It has everything to
- 15:49Speaker 2: do with what the industry wants to push. But there's
- 15:52Speaker 2: been so many great Grammy moments. I think back to
- 15:55Speaker 2: Henry Rawlins performing a liar to a stunned crowd of
- 16:01Speaker 2: tuxedo clad music executives, while Henry Rollins is himself wearing
- 16:05Speaker 2: a tuxedo, but of course he's barefoot, as he always is.
- 16:09Speaker 2: You know, Eddie Vedder said it best when he accepted
- 16:11Speaker 2: his Grammy in nineteen ninety six for Vitology. You know,
- 16:14Speaker 2: I'd understand what it means to get to an award
- 16:17Speaker 2: for art. What does it really mean? Or even just
- 16:20Speaker 2: this last year, when Kendrick Lamar swept the Grammys and
- 16:25Speaker 2: had an entire arena of Drake's collaborators and so called
- 16:31Speaker 2: friends singing the seminal line from one of the great
- 16:36Speaker 2: distracts of all time. You know, The Grammys have some
- 16:41Speaker 2: full circle too. Here we are this year, and I'm
- 16:43Speaker 2: encouraged to see bands like Turnstile and Wet Leg and
- 16:47Speaker 2: Amel and the Sniffers and Young Blood had been nominated.
- 16:51Speaker 2: But in those same categories you have the Death Tones
- 16:54Speaker 2: in Lincoln Parks nominated. So if you go back to
- 16:57Speaker 2: Jethro Toll beating out Metallic, which at times seemed crazy
- 17:01Speaker 2: to me, you know, seventeen years after Apalong came out
- 17:06Speaker 2: and they were no longer relevant, You've got the Death
- 17:09Speaker 2: Tones up against Turnstile twenty six years after their breakout
- 17:13Speaker 2: album lay Tony was released, and they might just win.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Do I want to see the Death Tones when Grammy? Hell,
- 17:20Speaker 2: yes I do. But you know, would it be a
- 17:23Speaker 2: shame for Turnstile to lose? Definitely? But I guess either
- 17:27Speaker 2: die a hero you live long enough to see yourself
- 17:29Speaker 2: become the villain. Anyway, it's going to be a mess.
- 17:33Speaker 2: I'm gonna be watching. It's always fun. We hate the
- 17:37Speaker 2: Grammys until the band that you love wins one, and
- 17:42Speaker 2: then you feel like you're validated. I'd understand it, but
- 17:45Speaker 2: that's part of the fun of being a music fan.
- 17:47Speaker 2: That's all I gotta say rock a Roller, Jacob, all.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Right, I love this. It's thoughtful nine to one six.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Thank you so much, and I love I love how
- 17:58Speaker 1: you framed the death Tones. The Deaftones are are to
- 18:03Speaker 1: Turnstyle what Jethrow Tall was to Metallica. You didn't say
- 18:07Speaker 1: it quite that way, but that's essentially what you're saying,
- 18:09Speaker 1: and it makes it makes a lot of sense. And yeah,
- 18:13Speaker 1: if the Deaftones win, I'm gonna be upset, because yeah,
- 18:17Speaker 1: I love your whole take here, and to your point,
- 18:20Speaker 1: we do hate the Grammys until the band that we
- 18:22Speaker 1: love knabs one. So I will be upset if the
- 18:25Speaker 1: Deaftones win and Turnstyle loses. In conversy, I'll be excited
- 18:29Speaker 1: if Turnstyle wins. There, you got me. There it is.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I don't hate the Grammys, I guess. All right, let's
- 18:34Speaker 1: hear from the five.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Away as Mike from the five Away, And so I
- 18:40Speaker 3: was thinking about, you know, the previous question of the
- 18:46Speaker 3: best female artist to cover. You know, I noticed that
- 18:51Speaker 3: unless after perty with all the talk about the first
- 18:56Speaker 3: generation punk bands and you know, and the throwback episode
- 19:02Speaker 3: to MC five, we forgot a humongous, glaring RT, which
- 19:08Speaker 3: is why is there no episode on Patti Smith. It
- 19:14Speaker 3: just it's like duh. But anyway, other than that, a
- 19:20Speaker 3: few other suggestions I had, maybe share Beyonce, Carol King,
- 19:29Speaker 3: maybe an episode on the Fujis because now apparently two
- 19:35Speaker 3: out of three members are have gone to jail. So anyway,
- 19:41Speaker 3: Rock and Roller five.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Owight, great call, great call. You know I have. I
- 19:49Speaker 1: think I have all of the Patti Smith books, like
- 19:52Speaker 1: the ones that have been released recently. That started with
- 19:55Speaker 1: I think jess Kids was the first one about her
- 19:58Speaker 1: relationship with Robert Maplethorpe, and and I purposefully and then
- 20:01Speaker 1: and so I bought that in that I don't know
- 20:03Speaker 1: if I bought her my sister got it for me,
- 20:04Speaker 1: but I got it early on and I purposefully did
- 20:06Speaker 1: not read it exuse I was like, I'm eventually going
- 20:07Speaker 1: to get into researching her, and I'll read it then.
- 20:10Speaker 1: And from that point that book came out and like
- 20:13Speaker 1: I don't know, twenty fifteen, sixteen seventeen, something like that.
- 20:17Speaker 1: From that point on, everybody not everybody, but I've just
- 20:21Speaker 1: gotten as gifts the other Patty Smith books and I
- 20:25Speaker 1: haven't read any of them for the same reason. So
- 20:29Speaker 1: now's the time. Thank you for Resurfing, Resurfacing this and
- 20:33Speaker 1: five O eight. If you haven't seen the movie Maplethorpe,
- 20:36Speaker 1: or any of you guys haven't seen it, I highly
- 20:38Speaker 1: recommend it. It's great Patty Smith. There's a small part
- 20:42Speaker 1: for the Patti Smith character in there as well, which
- 20:44Speaker 1: is really good. The movie's fantastic. It's I really loved it.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I think it's it's better than most music biopics that
- 20:54Speaker 1: are released these days. It kind of has everything that
- 20:58Speaker 1: I love about biopics. It doesn't it doesn't it doesn't
- 21:02Speaker 1: shy away from the darkness in uh in any way. Really,
- 21:06Speaker 1: it's fantastic. All right, let's go to text from the
- 21:11Speaker 1: four oh two says please do an episode on Kim Deal.
- 21:15Speaker 1: I noticed we got an email on that same artist's
- 21:18Speaker 1: suggestion this week as well. I would love to dig
- 21:22Speaker 1: into some Pixies and Kim Deal research. I got to
- 21:25Speaker 1: figure out if there's if there's a crime anywhere near this.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I'm not sure there is. There might be. I'm not
- 21:30Speaker 1: saying there's not, but that'll be my first, my first peek,
- 21:33Speaker 1: and if there is, we'll find a way into telling
- 21:35Speaker 1: the story on Kim Deal. Seven two four texts and Hey,
- 21:39Speaker 1: this isn't really anything related to music, but hope you
- 21:42Speaker 1: and your kids were able to enjoy the winter storm.
- 21:44Speaker 1: The fiance and I made snow angels and keep the
- 21:47Speaker 1: spirit of youth alive. Get a little picture of a
- 21:51Speaker 1: backyard covered in snow. I'm not sure where the seven
- 21:55Speaker 1: two four is texting from, and got the nice little
- 21:58Speaker 1: snow angels there. Very cool out looking through the text
- 22:02Speaker 1: right here seven two four. This is I believe from
- 22:05Speaker 1: somewhere in the South, though I cannot nail down the
- 22:09Speaker 1: location from this text thread. Anyways, I appreciate it. You
- 22:12Speaker 1: guys got buried in snow. I feel for you. I
- 22:15Speaker 1: did not. I'm a bit further south these days, and
- 22:20Speaker 1: it is cold, though colder than it's ever been for
- 22:23Speaker 1: me down here, but I will be back up in
- 22:25Speaker 1: the Northeast in a couple of days. I'm gonna visit
- 22:29Speaker 1: my family, gonna see my newborn nephew, and I'm gonna
- 22:33Speaker 1: watch my New England Patriots in the Super Bowl with
- 22:36Speaker 1: the fam up in New England, as it should be done.
- 22:41Speaker 1: And I'm hoping for snow. One I'm up there more snow.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I know you don't want to hear it, but That's
- 22:45Speaker 1: what I'm hoping for. Five eight oh rights in hey
- 22:48Speaker 1: Byork might be a really interesting story, maybe too weird,
- 22:51Speaker 1: but definitely punk. Five eight oh we got a b
- 22:55Speaker 1: York episode in the archive and it's really good. Check
- 23:00Speaker 1: that out. You're not gonna be disappointed. Three six oh
- 23:03Speaker 1: text in Jackie Fox was on Jeopardy and she was amazing.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Three six zho is texting in regards to Jackie Fox
- 23:09Speaker 1: from the Runaways episode we featured last week on Jeopardy.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Something we share in common with ms Fox the whole
- 23:18Speaker 1: being on Jeopardy thing over on Instagram. Doctor Momo dot
- 23:21Speaker 1: nine seven four rights in relation to our Lady Gaga episode.
- 23:25Speaker 1: You watched Billy Corgan's interview too, Maybe he got inspired
- 23:28Speaker 1: by you in the first place as well. Not sure
- 23:31Speaker 1: about that. I didn't know what doctor Momo nine seven
- 23:35Speaker 1: four was talking about, but apparently Billy Corgan has been
- 23:40Speaker 1: going deep into the occult on his podcast and did
- 23:47Speaker 1: not interview Lady Gaga. That's what I was hoping for.
- 23:49Speaker 1: That'd be great Billy Corgan interviewing Lady Gaga. Let's make
- 23:52Speaker 1: that happen. We get this email from listener Knox Bronson
- 23:56Speaker 1: on the subject of the jone Jet cult. The Cult
- 24:01Speaker 1: of Jon Jet, Knox writes in Jake Knox Bronson Here. Hi.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Back in the mid nineties, I picked up a little
- 24:08Speaker 1: black and white freebie magazine eight and a half by eleven,
- 24:11Speaker 1: printed on newsprint, probably at Amba Records or Rasputants in Berkeley.
- 24:15Speaker 1: It was called The Node and it was run by
- 24:18Speaker 1: a couple of women. They seem to have a collective
- 24:20Speaker 1: in the Hayte Ashbury in San Francisco, and they did
- 24:23Speaker 1: Macintosh oriented computer services. I can't remember exactly what it's
- 24:27Speaker 1: been thirty years, but they did worship Jon Jet, absolutely
- 24:31Speaker 1: no question, very prominent in the magazine. I never saw
- 24:35Speaker 1: another copy of The Node. I of course found it
- 24:37Speaker 1: fascinating still do kind of, especially after your episode about it.
- 24:41Speaker 1: But I can assure you without any doubt that there
- 24:44Speaker 1: was some tiny cult who worshiped jone Jet and the
- 24:47Speaker 1: Hate in San Francisco in the nineteen nineties. And I
- 24:50Speaker 1: don't know if you remember me, but I'm the one
- 24:51Speaker 1: who told you the story about John Spacey and who
- 24:53Speaker 1: really killed Nancy Sponge In anyway, I just wanted to
- 24:56Speaker 1: let you know it did exist, and I sure wish
- 24:58Speaker 1: I had that little magazine now yours. Knox Bronson of
- 25:01Speaker 1: Oakland Knox. Thank you, my man. Knox is writing in
- 25:05Speaker 1: in reference to our mini episode on the cult that
- 25:09Speaker 1: worships Joan Jet as a God. We released that mini
- 25:13Speaker 1: episode last week in tandem with our new Runaways episode.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Mini episodes are of course available to All Access members.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Uh.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Fascinating story, one of many fascinating stories that we come
- 25:24Speaker 1: upon in our research that doesn't really fit into the
- 25:28Speaker 1: story we're we're trying to tell in the full episodes,
- 25:31Speaker 1: So those, as most of you know, become mini episodes. Uh,
- 25:34Speaker 1: just these little anecdotes that are just fascinating for music history.
- 25:39Speaker 1: And they're short, they're sweet. They're about five minutes long,
- 25:42Speaker 1: five to ten something like that. They make for good,
- 25:44Speaker 1: good dinner party stories. Good uh, sitting around the grill
- 25:50Speaker 1: out back in your in your tony soprano apron as
- 25:53Speaker 1: you're as you're moving the sausages from from one side
- 25:56Speaker 1: of the grill to the other, and you know you
- 25:58Speaker 1: gotta kind of you gotta keep Polly Walnuts occupied and
- 26:01Speaker 1: you need a story to tell them. That's kind of
- 26:04Speaker 1: what these stories are. They're short, but they are really
- 26:07Speaker 1: kind of like holy shit, there's a cult that worshiped
- 26:10Speaker 1: Jon Jet as a god. Like that's I don't know,
- 26:13Speaker 1: I find that interesting. Maybe you will too, And if so,
- 26:16Speaker 1: that's what those mini episodes are. Therefore, actually that's what
- 26:19Speaker 1: all Disgrace Lands for. But the mini episodes, it just
- 26:20Speaker 1: gives you a man, This is more concentrated punch version
- 26:24Speaker 1: of it, you know what I mean. Like you know
- 26:25Speaker 1: you're gonna drink beers when you go out, but you
- 26:28Speaker 1: know you might do a shot as well. The mini
- 26:29Speaker 1: episodes are like the shot. The beers are like the
- 26:32Speaker 1: full episode. I don't know what the fun I'm talking about.
- 26:34Speaker 1: All right, I'll be back after this. All right, Guys,
- 26:49Speaker 1: you may have noticed, if you're an Apple podcast listener,
- 26:53Speaker 1: that Disgraceland is being featured this week on Apple Podcasts.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Thanks to the fine folks over at Apple for them
- 27:00Speaker 1: that we really really appreciate it. If you go to

- 27:21Speaker 1: released after our new full episodes, which come out on Tuesdays, okay,
- 27:27Speaker 1: and then on at the end of the week Fridays,
- 27:29Speaker 1: we release essentially what our reruns. We call them rewinds.
- 27:34Speaker 1: There are archive episodes. If you're new to Disgraceland. We've
- 27:37Speaker 1: got over two hundred and sixty full scripted episodes on artists, musicians,
- 27:45Speaker 1: rock stars from every genre of music. We have so
- 27:49Speaker 1: many of them. We have new listeners coming in all
- 27:51Speaker 1: the time. We get a ton of emails asking us
- 27:55Speaker 1: to create episodes on artists and musicians the people love understandably.
- 28:03Speaker 1: But what happens is, as you may have heard earlier,
- 28:06Speaker 1: were these requests come in, Hey can you do an
- 28:09Speaker 1: episode on Buyork? And we're like, we have an episode
- 28:11Speaker 1: on Byorck. Can you do an episode on Kendrick Lamar?
- 28:14Speaker 1: We have an episode on Kendrick Lamar. So at the
- 28:17Speaker 1: end of the week on Fridays, right after this bonus episode,
- 28:21Speaker 1: that's where we release our reruns, our rewind episodes, So
- 28:26Speaker 1: you get at a minimum every week three episodes of
- 28:29Speaker 1: Disgrace and two of which are totally new, our new
- 28:33Speaker 1: scripted episode, and then our bonus after party episode, which
- 28:37Speaker 1: is what you're listening to right now, and then you
- 28:39Speaker 1: get the rewind stuff as well, and oftentimes there are
- 28:42Speaker 1: two part episodes, so you get even more. It's kind
- 28:45Speaker 1: of a whole week of programming. Don't ask me how
- 28:47Speaker 1: we got here, but this is where we landed seven
- 28:49Speaker 1: years into doing this show, and I'm pretty damn happy
- 28:51Speaker 1: about it. It's a whole community surrounding this Disgrace Land podcast.

- 29:36Speaker 1: listener's review from Apple podcasts, one from Apple and one
- 29:39Speaker 1: from Spotify. And if I read that review here on

- 29:45Speaker 1: with me and I will send you some free Disgraceland merchandise.

- 29:52Speaker 1: might be some stickers. Got a lot of stuff here.
- 29:55Speaker 1: I'm in the middle of this big studio reorganization that
- 29:58Speaker 1: has also sort of kicked off, this reorganization of my
- 30:01Speaker 1: storage space and my garage. So I've uncovered a bunch
- 30:05Speaker 1: of disgrace and merch that frankly, I didn't even know
- 30:08Speaker 1: I had. Posters, all kinds of shit. I got tope bags,
- 30:14Speaker 1: some cool stuff. So leave a review. We appreciate it
- 30:18Speaker 1: helps grow the show, like I said, And if I

- 31:04Speaker 1: and the true stories of icons behaving badly, then you

- 31:14Speaker 1: We ride Jonathan from the six to one. Oh Jonathan,
- 31:16Speaker 1: get in touch. Appreciate you. I will get you some merch.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Mags Thurston writes on Spotify, the most plausible conspiracy theory
- 31:25Speaker 1: I've heard about Lady Gaga is that her persona was
- 31:30Speaker 1: preconceived and was granted to whatever singer was willing to
- 31:33Speaker 1: play ball with the label that created her. Mas Thurston,
- 31:38Speaker 1: get in touch, appreciate the insight. We get you some merch.
- 31:41Speaker 1: All right, guys, I gotta just I guess switch gears
- 31:44Speaker 1: here for just a moment. I'm not going to gloat.
- 31:47Speaker 1: I'm not going to boast. I'm just gonna breathe a
- 31:53Speaker 1: sigh of relief. You know why, because the New England
- 31:57Speaker 1: Patriots are back. Baby, they are back. And yeah, set
- 32:00Speaker 1: has nothing to do with music or true crime. But
- 32:04Speaker 1: I'm just authentically unashamed sports fan, especially when it comes
- 32:10Speaker 1: to New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox, and
- 32:12Speaker 1: I just it, just you know, those years, those past
- 32:16Speaker 1: few years of not being in the playoffs, Mac Jones
- 32:19Speaker 1: and Drod Mao and fucking all the if. Just as
- 32:25Speaker 1: a long suffering New England Patriots fan who has been
- 32:31Speaker 1: been ousted from the postseason for what five years? Four years?
- 32:37Speaker 1: I don't know how you other fans of sports teams
- 32:39Speaker 1: do it. I literally don't. I don't. I'll I'll say
- 32:43Speaker 1: is I'm very excited and tip of the cap to
- 32:45Speaker 1: my friends in Seattle, Shay Simpson, what's up, brother. Happy
- 32:49Speaker 1: for you guys, but this is not going to end
- 32:52Speaker 1: well for you. I promise you that anyhow had to
- 32:56Speaker 1: say it, had to say it, okay, as promised. Zetheline
- 33:00Speaker 1: and I discussing Kanye West and David Bowie and the
- 33:05Speaker 1: conspiracy theories that surround the two their connection. What David
- 33:12Speaker 1: Bowie predicted about Kanye West before he died. Pretty fascinating stuff.

- 36:00Speaker 1: them all together like you do, and well that's a disgrace,
- 36:03Speaker 1: all right. Back on October fourth, two thousand and eight,
- 36:06Speaker 1: Lady Guy Guy's bestie, Lina Morgana took a dive off
