- 0:23Speaker 1: dot org. Golf dot Breck dot org. I don't know
- 0:26Speaker 1: how many more dubs are on the schedule for the
- 0:28Speaker 1: New Orleans Saints, but it would feel like this is
- 0:31Speaker 1: pretty maybe the best opportunity you have remaining. Saints set
- 0:34Speaker 1: up to New York take on the Giants, the reeling
- 0:37Speaker 1: New York Giants. Ryan Field, I was good have to
- 0:40Speaker 1: visit with us last year when the Giants came to
- 0:42Speaker 1: the Dome. Call on him again from ABC seven there
- 0:44Speaker 1: in New York. He's on Twitter at Ryan Field ABC.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Thanks man.
- 0:48Speaker 2: How are you, Matt? Always a pleasure man? Doing great?
- 0:51Speaker 2: Thanks for having me on, No, it's our pleasure.
- 0:53Speaker 1: We appreciate the time. Man. How do you encapsulate what
- 0:58Speaker 1: it's like around this foot team right now? Vibes appear
- 1:01Speaker 1: pretty low from the outside looking in.
- 1:03Speaker 2: You could say that about the entire state of New
- 1:05Speaker 2: York football. And listen, the Giants did not have the
- 1:09Speaker 2: same type of preseason hype nor expectations that the Jets had,
- 1:14Speaker 2: but certainly nobody thought they would only have two wins
- 1:17Speaker 2: here at this juncture of the season. And you know,
- 1:21Speaker 2: you talk about the Saints coming into town on Sunday,
- 1:24Speaker 2: they are a five point road favorite, which is kind
- 1:28Speaker 2: of a big number in the NFL for a road team,
- 1:30Speaker 2: which kind of tells you exactly the state of these
- 1:32Speaker 2: two teams at this point. But that's just the way
- 1:36Speaker 2: it is. And I fully expect the Saints to come
- 1:38Speaker 2: in and win this game. And frankly, Giants fans are
- 1:41Speaker 2: hoping that they don't win this game because they are
- 1:44Speaker 2: already eyeing a top pick in April's draft.
- 1:47Speaker 1: What happened with Daniel Jones.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Well, I think it's I think it was a combination
- 1:52Speaker 2: of things. You know, when Saquon was there, you know,
- 1:55Speaker 2: he was in and out of the lineup, bat battling
- 1:58Speaker 2: various ailments. So two was Joan who was not entirely
- 2:01Speaker 2: healthy during his tenure. They could never put a competent
- 2:04Speaker 2: offensive line in place for him until they had Molak
- 2:09Speaker 2: Neighbors between Odell Beckham's departure, and then until they got
- 2:12Speaker 2: Milak Neighbors, they never really had a true deep threat
- 2:15Speaker 2: at wide out, somebody that really put fear into the secondary.
- 2:19Speaker 2: So the list goes on and on and on and on.
- 2:21Speaker 2: But the reality of the situation is Daniel Jones in
- 2:26Speaker 2: his contract year, led them to the playoffs, led them
- 2:29Speaker 2: to a road win at Minnesota against a good Vikings team.
- 2:33Speaker 2: It was a great time for Daniel Jones, great timing,
- 2:36Speaker 2: very bad timing for the New York Football Giants who
- 2:39Speaker 2: had no choice but to re up him. You know,
- 2:42Speaker 2: four years, one hundred and sixty million. That was such
- 2:44Speaker 2: a big number, and frankly one that raised a lot
- 2:46Speaker 2: of eyebrows when it came down. But at that point
- 2:49Speaker 2: the Giants kind of had their hand forced, and then
- 2:51Speaker 2: they were forced to pick between Saquon and Daniel Jones.
- 2:54Speaker 2: And obviously, if they could do it all over again,
- 2:56Speaker 2: I'm sure they'd much rather have Feikwon Barkley.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Yeah guy who looks like yeah, he might well be
- 3:02Speaker 1: the MVP of the league. He and Josh Allen battling
- 3:06Speaker 1: for that last year when the Saints and Giants played
- 3:09Speaker 1: the Saints Sultamy gutlets. So he's heard it'll be Drew Locke.
- 3:13Speaker 1: What did the Giants look like with Drew Locke under center?
- 3:17Speaker 2: Listen, I thought they looked okay against the Cowboys. Now
- 3:20Speaker 2: granted it was against the Cowboys. You know, Drew lock
- 3:22Speaker 2: brings a scrambling element, kind of a gritty guy, a
- 3:26Speaker 2: little bit of a different vibe than Daniel Jones. He
- 3:29Speaker 2: had that great run on Thanksgiving, just missed a touchdown.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I'm like a forty yard scamper. So he brings a
- 3:35Speaker 2: different element. And as Dable points out, the Giants head coach,
- 3:38Speaker 2: this is the first week that he's been a full
- 3:41Speaker 2: go with the ones. So you know, he'll have a
- 3:44Speaker 2: full week of practice under his belt with the starting unit,
- 3:47Speaker 2: and the hope is they're going to come out and
- 3:49Speaker 2: put together a good showing. I mean, listen, the Giants
- 3:52Speaker 2: haven't even won a home game all season, so that
- 3:54Speaker 2: tells you how things are going here in the New York,
- 3:57Speaker 2: New Jersey metropolitan area. And you know, the fans have
- 4:01Speaker 2: not had much to cheer about, and frankly, it's it's
- 4:04Speaker 2: apathy for this season. And now, like I said, folks
- 4:07Speaker 2: are already looking ahead to April and what's going to
- 4:10Speaker 2: transpire in that draft.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Ryan Field ABC seven in New York, and then Dexter
- 4:16Speaker 1: Lawrence is done for the year as well. That's obviously massive.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Can you we can quantify it, right? I mean, I
- 4:23Speaker 1: can look at the interior pressures and the tackles, now, goody,
- 4:26Speaker 1: but like, what what does that loss mean for the
- 4:28Speaker 1: Giants defense on Sunday everything?
- 4:31Speaker 2: I mean, the guy is one of the best defensive
- 4:32Speaker 2: linemen in the NFL and he was already having a
- 4:35Speaker 2: career season nine sacks already through hover many games that
- 4:39Speaker 2: it was. He's a disruptor against the run and against
- 4:43Speaker 2: the past and frankly one of the vocal leaders on
- 4:46Speaker 2: that defense. And him not being there changes that complexion entirely.
- 4:51Speaker 2: So you're looking at Kavon Thibodeau to come off the
- 4:54Speaker 2: edge and hopefully pick up some of that slack. But
- 4:56Speaker 2: you know, by no means are they the same defense
- 4:59Speaker 2: without the big man. They're anchoring it in the middle.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Molik Neighbors obviously started the season on fire. There was
- 5:08Speaker 1: the injury slowed, There's been the frustration of late for
- 5:12Speaker 1: all the LSU fans here who obviously love watching them
- 5:14Speaker 1: play in the Purple and gold, give us a sense
- 5:16Speaker 1: of what the year has been like former league and
- 5:20Speaker 1: sort of the reception there.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, no pun intended with the reception. One
- 5:26Speaker 2: of those things.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I love puns. To God, I love puns, and that
- 5:30Speaker 1: was unintended that.
- 5:30Speaker 2: You're very punny. One of the reasons why I come
- 5:32Speaker 2: on this show. It's one of those things where, listen,
- 5:36Speaker 2: this guy was as good as advertised. He has made
- 5:38Speaker 2: some incredible catches that even if those fans down there,
- 5:43Speaker 2: the LSU fans down there in the Bayou aren't watching
- 5:45Speaker 2: Giants games, you've no doubt seen him on Sports Center.
- 5:48Speaker 2: I mean, he's made some incredible catches this season, but again,
- 5:52Speaker 2: look who's been thrown in the ball. So it's kind of,
- 5:55Speaker 2: you know, he's kind of he hasn't been dealt a
- 5:57Speaker 2: great hand here in his rookie season. You know, he
- 6:00Speaker 2: was frustrated a couple of weeks ago because he wasn't
- 6:02Speaker 2: targeted at all in the first half. Kind of had
- 6:05Speaker 2: a fiery postgame interviews with the reporters there with the
- 6:10Speaker 2: you know, in the Scrum just kind of talking about
- 6:12Speaker 2: how the Giants are playing soft and you know, you
- 6:14Speaker 2: got to talk to David about why I'm not being
- 6:16Speaker 2: targeted and I want more touches and listen, the guy
- 6:19Speaker 2: knows he's one of the best players on the field
- 6:22Speaker 2: and frankly should never be a question in terms of
- 6:25Speaker 2: his involvement in the offense. And the Giants drafted him
- 6:28Speaker 2: in the top ten for a reason. They know what
- 6:31Speaker 2: he brings to the table. We've seen it in flashes
- 6:34Speaker 2: this year. Now, the hope is, you know, they go
- 6:36Speaker 2: out to get a quarterback in April's draft, whether it's
- 6:39Speaker 2: Shad or Sanders or whoever, at the two or three pick,
- 6:42Speaker 2: which is probably where they're going to be slotted, and
- 6:45Speaker 2: you know, you get a guy that can get him
- 6:47Speaker 2: the ball deep routes, you know, down the field where
- 6:51Speaker 2: he can make plays, because he's certainly capable of doing that.
- 6:54Speaker 2: It's just unfortunate that we've only seen it in flashes
- 6:57Speaker 2: here in his rookie season.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Ran you mentioned the Saints being five point favorites on
- 7:02Speaker 1: the road in an NFL game. It certainly speaks to
- 7:05Speaker 1: the Giants and their record at two and ten, but
- 7:08Speaker 1: the Saints are four and eight, So a four and
- 7:11Speaker 1: eight team is a five point road favorite.
- 7:13Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying.
- 7:14Speaker 1: It's ex great. But the flip side of that is
- 7:16Speaker 1: the Saints are four and eight. Man, they're a dramatically
- 7:19Speaker 1: flawed football team. So if there is a blueprint for
- 7:23Speaker 1: the Giants, and candidly, Ryan, there's a lot of people
- 7:25Speaker 1: here kind of open the Saints trip up as right,
- 7:30Speaker 1: what is the blueprint for the Giants Sunday?
- 7:33Speaker 2: I mean, listen, Drew Locke has to show what he
- 7:35Speaker 2: did against the Cowboys, the scrambling ability, especially in the
- 7:39Speaker 2: second half, You've found a little more rhythm with the offense,
- 7:42Speaker 2: and maybe that's something they can build on. And listen
- 7:46Speaker 2: the coaching staff for the Giants, much like the Saints,
- 7:48Speaker 2: they're not going to come out and try to lose
- 7:50Speaker 2: this game. I fully expect both teams to put on
- 7:54Speaker 2: or put their best put forward. But you know, for
- 7:56Speaker 2: the Giants, you know, Tyrone Tracy, the rookie running back
- 7:59Speaker 2: out of Purdue, has been a revelation this year, so
- 8:03Speaker 2: you know they'll they'll have neighbors in there who's probably
- 8:05Speaker 2: gonna be motivated going up against New Orleans. So listen,
- 8:09Speaker 2: there is there is a path for them to win.
- 8:12Speaker 2: It's just going to be funny to your point. Two
- 8:14Speaker 2: teams that frankly probably don't want to win based on
- 8:18Speaker 2: their draft selection come April. So it'll be kind of
- 8:21Speaker 2: curious to see how all of this plays out.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Is Ryan Field to get them on Twitter at ryan
- 8:26Speaker 1: Field ABC. Incidentally, the airport in Baton Rouge is Ryan Field, So.
- 8:30Speaker 2: How about that? We have also the home of Northwestern football.
- 8:35Speaker 1: The home of Northwest. Are you a Wildcat?
- 8:38Speaker 2: I am not a Wildcat. I'm a Michigan State spartan,
- 8:41Speaker 2: but an honorary Wildcat. As especially as their stadium up
- 8:44Speaker 2: there is undergoing not a facelift. They're building a whole
- 8:48Speaker 2: new place there and it's gonna be it looks pretty spectacular,
- 8:51Speaker 2: So I am getting a facelift myself. Ryan Field up
- 8:54Speaker 2: and up in evans still up in Evanston, Illinois. So
- 8:59Speaker 2: I might have to be there for the grand opening,
- 9:01Speaker 2: the ribbon cutting, if you will. They might have to
- 9:03Speaker 2: have me over there.
- 9:03Speaker 1: They should, And they're playing it at like the practice
- 9:06Speaker 1: field this year, which is.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Yes, w yeah. I think I think they can only
- 9:10Speaker 2: hold like eight thousand there or something. Which you know,
- 9:13Speaker 2: they don't typically get much more than that for a
- 9:14Speaker 2: Northwestern football game. I kid, but one of those things
- 9:19Speaker 2: where you're yeah, I mean, what was it a couple
- 9:21Speaker 2: of years ago that the Bears had to play down
- 9:24Speaker 2: at Illinois Stadium. I guess it was probably longer than that,
- 9:27Speaker 2: when when Soldier Field was undergoing all those renovations. So
- 9:30Speaker 2: you gotta do what you gotta do.
- 9:31Speaker 1: He is Ryan Field from ABC seven there in New York.
- 9:35Speaker 1: We appreciate it, man, I'd say, enjoy the game Sunday,
- 9:38Speaker 1: but I don't think any of us enjoy.
- 9:41Speaker 2: The same sentiments to you, my friend. Let's just hope
- 9:44Speaker 2: they give us something to put a few highlights on
- 9:46Speaker 2: the eleven o'clock news here Sunday.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Night, no doubt, man, have a good one. Thank you, thanks, Matt.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Appreciate it.
