- 0:30Speaker 2: this Yeah, because if you feel like you communicate exclusively
- 0:34Speaker 2: via TikTok sounds, if you get separation anxiety from your phone,
- 0:40Speaker 2: if your best friend is like someone you've never met
- 0:43Speaker 2: on Instagram, you know, maybe it's time to have a
- 0:48Speaker 2: little bit of a.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Digital detops digital detox. There's never a bad time for
- 0:52Speaker 3: a digital detox. And I don't think there's a single
- 0:54Speaker 3: person in the world except for someone who doesn't have
- 0:57Speaker 3: a phone or they're still rocking the nockiaut, that wouldn't
- 1:00Speaker 3: need a digital detox. I was thinking on the way here,
- 1:03Speaker 3: I was like, maybe I'll get an old phone.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Great, that's actually I want to ask you more about that,
- 1:08Speaker 2: so we don't get too much before I'll write or
- 1:11Speaker 2: write a rap, but before we get into it. In
- 1:14Speaker 2: our Tuesday episodes, we start off with a little segment,
- 1:19Speaker 2: and usually it's like our product wreck of the week,
- 1:21Speaker 2: or you know, something that's trending, but it's it's getting
- 1:24Speaker 2: a glow up and it's now called what I'm obsessed with.
- 1:27Speaker 2: So that can include like a product wreck, maybe a
- 1:31Speaker 2: viral obsession. Yeah, it literally could be anything.
- 1:34Speaker 3: That was a remix because it's my obsessions. But it's now,
- 1:39Speaker 3: these are my obsessions.
- 1:41Speaker 2: It's not going to be like a sweeper, Yeah.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Trying to do a really good one. Ready, come in
- 1:46Speaker 3: three two? These are my obsessions.
- 1:50Speaker 4: There we go. I love that.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Okay, Well to kick us off, what's your obsession this week?
- 1:56Speaker 3: Okay, my obsession this week is that four is a
- 2:00Speaker 3: year of fucking girlypop.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Let's go chicks y.
- 2:05Speaker 3: I feel like two years ago it was all Maddie
- 2:07Speaker 3: Healy and Harry Styles runt and now it's wrong. Now
- 2:13Speaker 3: it's like Sabrina Carpenter, Charlie x X Chapel, Roan, Taylor Swift,
- 2:19Speaker 3: She's she's kind of an ongoing one, but we'll chuck.
- 2:22Speaker 4: Her in there.
- 2:22Speaker 3: But yeah, she's the prime minister pop.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Yeah that Like, I am just loving it.
- 2:32Speaker 3: I am eating it up. I'm gobbling it up. I
- 2:35Speaker 3: want it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I want all
- 2:39Speaker 3: of it. I love seeing them basically on every form
- 2:42Speaker 3: of media, on every talk show, on every TikTok. I
- 2:46Speaker 3: know Spotify is getting slammed for like putting Sabrina Carpenter
- 2:49Speaker 3: like every playlist.
- 2:50Speaker 4: But I'm like, give it to me. I'm eating it.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm eating Yeah.
- 2:54Speaker 4: I want it.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Bring me the girlipop every fucking day and don't ever
- 2:58Speaker 3: think about stopping it.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm just really glad that like Charlie XCX especially
- 3:03Speaker 2: is finally getting her I was gonna say, come up,
- 3:06Speaker 2: and but that's like.
- 3:09Speaker 4: Bill reigning Supreme Queen. She's vice president or.
- 3:15Speaker 3: President or primary stuff.
- 3:17Speaker 4: You can do your own rankings.
- 3:18Speaker 2: My obsession of the week was actually on a similar
- 3:21Speaker 2: vein shows Away in Sync Again, and it's Charlie XCX's
- 3:26Speaker 2: new album Brat. I'm like so into it, like I
- 3:30Speaker 2: said at the beginning of the year or the end
- 3:31Speaker 2: of last year, like clean Girl Vibe is out, Rat
- 3:35Speaker 2: Girl is in, and I feel like that is the
- 3:37Speaker 2: album for the rat girlies and I'm so excited. So
- 3:41Speaker 2: let's get into the episode, shall we.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Let's do it?
- 3:49Speaker 2: Okay, So today's episode is all about the anti brain
- 3:52Speaker 2: rot checklist. But before we get into the checklist and
- 3:58Speaker 2: things to do, I want to to play a little game,
- 4:02Speaker 2: do you? So the game is do you have brain rot?
- 4:07Speaker 2: And I just want to say I picked all of
- 4:10Speaker 2: these and already knew all the answers, so that means
- 4:13Speaker 2: that I do have brain rot. And I'm not judging anyone.
- 4:17Speaker 2: If you know all the answers to this, it's a
- 4:18Speaker 2: judge free zone.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Okay, I'm ready. Okay.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Question number one, who worked it out on the remix? Oh?
- 4:26Speaker 3: I don't know this last week? To oh Lord and
- 4:30Speaker 3: Charlie XX.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Yeah, there we go.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Okay, I'll give you half a point. Okay, this is
- 4:35Speaker 2: a two parter. Who said, oh honey, I am so
- 4:38Speaker 2: nut threatened to and can you finish the quote?
- 4:42Speaker 3: I have a chat.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I mean, wouldn't touch you with a ten foot poll.
- 4:48Speaker 2: You're just jealous and I have a chat. It's my
- 4:52Speaker 2: favorite part was at the end when she said, so
- 4:54Speaker 2: it looks like you're the one that's Pinini pressed. Okay,
- 5:01Speaker 2: you get two points for that.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Oh.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Question number three, what hotel did the fully conscious baby
- 5:09Speaker 2: want to go to?
- 5:10Speaker 3: Who wants to go the four seasons on Orlando.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Me. Okay, another point, So you're up to three and
- 5:19Speaker 2: a half points. Question number four, Okay, who is your
- 5:23Speaker 2: favorite artist's favorite artist?
- 5:25Speaker 3: My name is chapel Ron, and I'm your favorite artist.
- 5:29Speaker 4: Favorite artist, my favorite.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Thing I get a bonus point for this is she
- 5:32Speaker 3: was on Jimmy Fallon and he fucking freaked out because
- 5:36Speaker 3: she started like talking about drag queens and he had
- 5:39Speaker 3: no idea what she was talking to. And then she
- 5:41Speaker 3: was like, it's actually a reference to Sasha Colby, who
- 5:44Speaker 3: says I'm your favorite.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Drag queen's favorite drag queen.
- 5:46Speaker 3: And when she said Sasa Colby, there were people in
- 5:48Speaker 3: the audience at tuned, and.
- 5:49Speaker 4: She was like, there's gay people here.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:51Speaker 4: I was like, hah, yes, there's gay people here.
- 5:55Speaker 2: I didn't go. It's like when he did that interview
- 5:59Speaker 2: with ru Paul and he's like, blah, drag queen, drag queen,
- 6:03Speaker 2: I am the Queen of drag and he was solely
- 6:06Speaker 2: of his body.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Okay, So the bonus point was who was the inspo
- 6:12Speaker 2: for that quote? Okay, so we've got one final question.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Who is looking fire Pooky?
- 6:20Speaker 1: Yes?
- 6:26Speaker 4: You have brain ride?
- 6:30Speaker 3: Oh my god, Pooky is looking absolute fire.
- 6:35Speaker 2: That's amazing. So you got six and a half points
- 6:38Speaker 2: out of seven. Wait, but I did want to start
- 6:48Speaker 2: off with that quiz because obviously we're well equipped to
- 6:52Speaker 2: talk about but also because I wanted to start it
- 6:54Speaker 2: off that this is like a judgment free zone. Oh
- 6:59Speaker 2: you know, when I was doing research for the episode,
- 7:01Speaker 2: I did feel a lot of judgment from some of
- 7:03Speaker 2: the articles. There was one article I think it was
- 7:07Speaker 2: by the New York Times and it was like, if
- 7:08Speaker 2: you know what brain rot is, you probably have it.
- 7:11Speaker 3: And I was like, it is like, it is like
- 7:15Speaker 3: a hot word.
- 7:17Speaker 2: It is a buzzword.
- 7:19Speaker 4: Of buzzword, that's the word.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Yeah, but if you are unfamiliar with it just came
- 7:24Speaker 2: into my head because well that hot word buzzword and
- 7:27Speaker 2: the membrane went. So we've had brain rots since. Good
- 7:34Speaker 2: to know. But if you're unfamiliar with the term brain rot, Essentially,
- 7:39Speaker 2: it refers to like being chronically online and refers to
- 7:44Speaker 2: low value Internet content and the effects caused by spending
- 7:49Speaker 2: too much time consuming it. And according to Fast Company,
- 7:56Speaker 2: dumb phone brands like light Phone reported an increase in
- 8:00Speaker 2: demand of the opposite of smartphone aah. So while I
- 8:05Speaker 2: think a lot of us probably have experienced this thing
- 8:08Speaker 2: called brain rot a lot of us are also looking
- 8:11Speaker 2: for ways to maybe avoid it.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Like distance ourselves yeah, or accessibility, yeah, reduce our dependence
- 8:18Speaker 3: on smartphones, which I think is so interesting because we
- 8:21Speaker 3: use our smartphones for everything.
- 8:24Speaker 4: It's such a crutch.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Even like myself, I find myself using it as a crush.
- 8:28Speaker 3: And like I was saying before, I've actually been thinking
- 8:30Speaker 3: about getting an analogue brick phone just to detach from it,
- 8:36Speaker 3: just to use a phone as it is. I think
- 8:39Speaker 3: there is so much amazing access to knowledge and learning
- 8:43Speaker 3: and expansion of what we have within our own circle
- 8:48Speaker 3: that that is amazing, and that is such a privilege,
- 8:51Speaker 3: Like we if you have a smartphone and you have
- 8:55Speaker 3: connection to internet and that accessibility to learning and speaking
- 9:00Speaker 3: and entertainment like that is such a privilege. But I
- 9:03Speaker 3: think what's happening is you know when not using it
- 9:07Speaker 3: for that, I'm not using it for that, and when
- 9:10Speaker 3: I can tell when I'm using my phone for healthy
- 9:16Speaker 3: self development, yeah, and when I'm brain rotting, and that
- 9:20Speaker 3: healthy self development does include mindless scrolling, yeah, because it's
- 9:24Speaker 3: a it's a reprieve It's like it's good to watch
- 9:28Speaker 3: funny videos.
- 9:28Speaker 4: If there's a YouTuber that you.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Absolutely love and they make you laugh so much, there
- 9:33Speaker 3: is nothing wrong with that. It's the I've got nothing
- 9:36Speaker 3: else to do, so I'll sit here and I'll scroll,
- 9:38Speaker 3: or I've got something to do, but I'm sitting there
- 9:41Speaker 3: and I'm scrolling.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Well, it's so interesting when you brought up like you know,
- 9:45Speaker 2: like the Nokia old school phone or they call them
- 9:49Speaker 2: feature phones like Nokia does, and apparently they've seen the
- 9:53Speaker 2: sales for those types of phones double in the US
- 9:56Speaker 2: from twenty twenty two to twenty twenty three. So like
- 9:59Speaker 2: you're not alone because I've like thought that too, or
- 10:03Speaker 2: you know, often I'm like, can I just like go
- 10:04Speaker 2: somewhere without my phone? But there is like a sense
- 10:07Speaker 2: of security of being Definitely something goes wrong definitely, So yeah,
- 10:12Speaker 2: I'm like, maybe that would be like a good option. Well,
- 10:15Speaker 2: I feel like in a digital detos and what I've
- 10:17Speaker 2: started putting into practice and I definitely want to develop
- 10:20Speaker 2: more is when that content that doesn't really align with
- 10:24Speaker 2: my values, or content that doesn't really pull a positive
- 10:28Speaker 2: experience for me or from me, like it pulls negativity,
- 10:32Speaker 2: It builds negativity in me because I'm either being like, yeah,
- 10:35Speaker 2: I don't like that, or I'm being like, oh.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Like the world like this, Yeah, like it's overwhelming. I
- 10:42Speaker 3: like start utilizing the.
- 10:43Speaker 4: Not interested button.
- 10:45Speaker 3: I not interested button is free to use, and it
- 10:50Speaker 3: builds like you can build your own algorithm that yes,
- 10:53Speaker 3: some of these things that go viral are just gonna
- 10:56Speaker 3: go viral, but they're not all bad like the Four
- 10:59Speaker 3: Seasons baby.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Yeah, like that's just like a bit of tongue in cheek.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Yeah, but yeah, the not interested button is your best
- 11:06Speaker 3: friend in building content and building a feed that does
- 11:10Speaker 3: align with your values, that does show you things you
- 11:12Speaker 3: want to see. If you see something that makes you
- 11:14Speaker 3: maybe feel bad or insecure, it's not anything against maybe
- 11:19Speaker 3: that creator or that person in that video, but if
- 11:22Speaker 3: something doesn't fuel your happiness and the dopamine and serotonin
- 11:26Speaker 3: that you are getting from using social media, you need
- 11:29Speaker 3: to tell your apps what.
- 11:31Speaker 4: You want from them exactly.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Otherwise that's when I find the rot rotting. Yeah, and
- 11:37Speaker 3: I've started doing that, or just like blocking for the
- 11:40Speaker 3: sake of this.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Content doesn't serve me.
- 11:43Speaker 3: So that's what I've been doing a little bit lately
- 11:46Speaker 3: to try and kind of like bring back a little
- 11:49Speaker 3: bit more positivity because as.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Well, Hope Core. Have you seen Hope Pore?
- 11:54Speaker 3: I love it.
- 11:55Speaker 2: I love it.
- 11:56Speaker 4: It's like little montages.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Of just really beautiful moments in human experiences of like
- 12:03Speaker 3: you know, dogs finding their families after being lost, or
- 12:06Speaker 3: people being reunited with you know, people in their family
- 12:09Speaker 3: or friends or whatever it is. There was one about
- 12:12Speaker 3: like a grandpa and a cafe getting a piece of
- 12:14Speaker 3: cake and everyone saying to him he started crying, and
- 12:17Speaker 3: it just reminds you of the good and the simplicity
- 12:22Speaker 3: that humans can be. And that's what I like. That's
- 12:26Speaker 3: when I don't feel like shit for being on my phone,
- 12:29Speaker 3: and I'm like, that makes me happy.
- 12:31Speaker 4: And whenever I watch.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Videos like that, I'm like, okay, I'm done now and
- 12:35Speaker 3: I can get off my phone. And I always make
- 12:37Speaker 3: sure that I like it and I watch the whole
- 12:39Speaker 3: thing and I save it in favorite.
- 12:41Speaker 4: So I'm like, this is what I want.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Give me that, yeah, exactly, that one.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Right there, Because I think a lot of the time
- 12:48Speaker 2: people are like, well, I'm so dependent on my smartphone.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I need it to like, you know, use maps, I
- 12:55Speaker 2: need it to message people. I need it for work,
- 12:57Speaker 2: and so people like, well, you know, I can't really
- 13:00Speaker 2: curb this addiction because I need it, And they think
- 13:03Speaker 2: that it's like you have to go cold turkey and
- 13:05Speaker 2: like throw your phone away, And I think it's not
- 13:08Speaker 2: a matter of that. You don't have to, like, you know,
- 13:11Speaker 2: go completely off the grid and go live in a
- 13:13Speaker 2: forest somewhere. It's more so about finding healthier boundaries for
- 13:18Speaker 2: you and also like utilizing the tools and apps and
- 13:21Speaker 2: things on our phones and on you know, the social
- 13:25Speaker 2: media apps that we use in a way that serves
- 13:28Speaker 2: us just to make it healthier. So we're going to
- 13:31Speaker 2: run through some of those. I think a big one,
- 13:35Speaker 2: like a big goal for a lot of people in
- 13:37Speaker 2: twenty twenty four is to reduce your screen time. Like anecdotally,
- 13:42Speaker 2: I found, at least with you know, conversations with our friends,
- 13:45Speaker 2: mine's like twelve hours.
- 13:46Speaker 4: Whoa, yeah, how do I check it?
- 13:48Speaker 2: Mine's ten hours and fifty seven minutes.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Far out to mine's nine hours and thirty seven minutes.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Holy shit, My total screen time last week was thirty
- 14:01Speaker 3: two hours and thirty four minutes. I'm getting I'm getting
- 14:05Speaker 3: a Nokia, I'm getting a brick phone.
- 14:07Speaker 4: It's time.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Oh that my god, no, wonder when my anxiety is bad.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Well, it's like if you think about like how many
- 14:13Speaker 2: days we would spend on our phones in a lifetime
- 14:18Speaker 2: just on social media, Like going on social media is
- 14:22Speaker 2: like also a big part of our job. So there's
- 14:26Speaker 2: also that likes.
- 14:28Speaker 3: There's there's that's too much. Okay, So I don't like
- 14:33Speaker 3: that number, and I would like to work on that
- 14:34Speaker 3: number and better that number in a way that is lesser,
- 14:38Speaker 3: because spending a whole day on social media is not
- 14:40Speaker 3: good for my brain, and it's not good for anyone's brain.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Your weekly total of time on your phone.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Is fifty four hours. But you know why this is happening.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I listen to audiobooks when I sleep.
- 14:53Speaker 4: I don't know if that counts.
- 14:54Speaker 2: It is because it's pulling in information and reading.
- 14:57Speaker 4: That's wild.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Yeah, but I'm like that may sense because I feel
- 15:01Speaker 2: everyone should go do that. Yeah, exactly. And because there
- 15:05Speaker 2: was like a twenty twenty four study from Statista, and
- 15:08Speaker 2: they were saying that on average in the world, people
- 15:12Speaker 2: spend one hundred and forty three minutes on social media
- 15:15Speaker 2: per day on average. This is apparently down from one
- 15:18Speaker 2: hundred and fifty one minutes last year, but that's still
- 15:21Speaker 2: almost three hours on social media apps per day on average.
- 15:25Speaker 2: I would say that the average young person that would
- 15:29Speaker 2: be a lot higher.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Time seven three times seven is twenty one.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Yeah, so we aligned with that. Yeah, but like I'm
- 15:37Speaker 2: sure that there would be people that would be spending
- 15:39Speaker 2: more oh yeah as well. So yeah, like we were saying,
- 15:42Speaker 2: just go to see how much time you're spending on
- 15:45Speaker 2: the apps, Like for your iPhone, go to your setting
- 15:47Speaker 2: screen time and then see all app and website activity,
- 15:50Speaker 2: because then from there you can see your usage. You
- 15:53Speaker 2: can set limits on your most used apps. So if
- 15:57Speaker 2: you can see that you're spending like a lot of
- 15:59Speaker 2: time on Instagram, then you can set limits on how
- 16:03Speaker 2: you can access those apps. And you can see how
- 16:07Speaker 2: many times, like you picked up your phone when you've
- 16:09Speaker 2: got a notification and things like that. So it's like, okay,
- 16:13Speaker 2: is that like the trigger that's getting me to pick
- 16:14Speaker 2: up my phone? Like should I set up you know,
- 16:17Speaker 2: the automatic do not disturb focus time, sleep time? Yeah.
- 16:22Speaker 2: I think it's just become so ingrained in our everyday
- 16:26Speaker 2: back subconscious habit. Yeah, well, it's just the muscle memory
- 16:29Speaker 2: of picking up full of phone.
- 16:31Speaker 3: But I feel like as well, it's like my brain
- 16:35Speaker 3: goes on like changes tangents a lot, and that I'll
- 16:39Speaker 3: be going to go post on two broake Chicks and
- 16:42Speaker 3: I open it, I see a real that reel makes
- 16:44Speaker 3: me think of something else.
- 16:45Speaker 4: I start scrolling.
- 16:46Speaker 3: I go on this page and I'm like, what was
- 16:47Speaker 3: I doing again? Yeah, And it's just like a little
- 16:49Speaker 3: bit of a rabbit hole, and I think, what is
- 16:53Speaker 3: helpful that even in that same section.
- 16:55Speaker 4: And we'll talk a little bit more about it later.
- 16:57Speaker 4: But you can have usage.
- 17:00Speaker 3: It's on your apps, like there used to be apps
- 17:02Speaker 3: that you would download for it, but in your settings
- 17:04Speaker 3: you can say, Okay, I don't want to use TikTok
- 17:07Speaker 3: for more than this time. I don't want to use
- 17:09Speaker 3: Instagram for more than this time. And it's really really
- 17:12Speaker 3: good because I don't think we have the tools to
- 17:16Speaker 3: say no.
- 17:16Speaker 4: I don't no.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I actually think that maybe we should do it, yeah,
- 17:20Speaker 2: I for like eight hours a day or something so
- 17:23Speaker 2: that it's like, yes, it's just our work.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Yeah, Because I want to get to phones one that like,
- 17:31Speaker 3: I can do that. But it's the same thing that
- 17:33Speaker 3: I think as well, it's maybe learning a little bit
- 17:37Speaker 3: more about what we can do on our phone. I
- 17:39Speaker 3: don't think we understand all the tools that we have
- 17:41Speaker 3: available that are healthy tools. I think identifying things that
- 17:46Speaker 3: are good behaviors and like moderate behaviors and then bad
- 17:51Speaker 3: behaviors and kind of putting those into different spectrums. So
- 17:56Speaker 3: like good behaviors on your phone would be calling people
- 18:00Speaker 3: you love, listening to podcasts, listening to audio books, or
- 18:05Speaker 3: reading a book.
- 18:06Speaker 4: If you can read a physical book.
- 18:07Speaker 3: That is always positive, and learning to like learning, like
- 18:12Speaker 3: I started listening to a philosopher that I really love.
- 18:15Speaker 2: I did have a couple of podcasts to expand your knowledge. First,
- 18:19Speaker 2: one Stuff you should Know, Oh Love. So this podcast
- 18:23Speaker 2: is so cool because it covers everything from like they
- 18:26Speaker 2: had a recent episode on whistling but to like scientific theory.
- 18:30Speaker 2: So it's like from you know, the frivolous to like
- 18:32Speaker 2: things that you're like how that happened? Like just everything
- 18:35Speaker 2: and this podcast breaks down, you know, the facts from
- 18:38Speaker 2: the everyday to the extraordinary, which I think is really cool.
- 18:42Speaker 4: I really love that.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Another podcast a Daily oz So that's like a fifteen
- 18:46Speaker 2: minute roughly you know, daily news breakdown, which I think
- 18:49Speaker 2: is really good. You know if you're not picking up
- 18:51Speaker 2: your local newspaper. We've mentioned on the show before, but
- 18:54Speaker 2: of course Big Small Talk, which is a mix of
- 18:57Speaker 2: pop culture, politics, and you know, news headlines hosted by
- 19:02Speaker 2: our good friends Hannah Ferguson and Sarah Adams. Absolutely love it,
- 19:06Speaker 2: especially if you want that light and shade mix. And
- 19:09Speaker 2: then also Hack, which is a weekly Triple J podcast
- 19:13Speaker 2: and in a similar way, they cover you know, the
- 19:16Speaker 2: latest news, politics and headlines. And I think it's just
- 19:19Speaker 2: like a really cool way to hear other perspectives on
- 19:22Speaker 2: the headline.
- 19:23Speaker 3: It's fun to learn to learn, it's fun.
- 19:25Speaker 4: I love feeling smarter.
- 19:27Speaker 3: I love consuming a piece of content or reading something
- 19:31Speaker 3: or listening to something and feeling smarter. Like we don't
- 19:35Speaker 3: have to feel guilty about using our phone if we're
- 19:38Speaker 3: using our phone in the right way. And I saw
- 19:40Speaker 3: this tweet it went viral a few years ago, and
- 19:43Speaker 3: it was about putting your phone into folders that are affirmations.
- 19:49Speaker 3: So you know how you can pull in apps and
- 19:51Speaker 3: you put them in a folder, and most of the
- 19:53Speaker 3: time it'll be like money social videos, like if that's
- 19:59Speaker 3: your Netflix apps, for example, or and then like your
- 20:02Speaker 3: health apps potentially but what it changed to was, rather
- 20:05Speaker 3: than being money, it would be I am rich, rather
- 20:10Speaker 3: than being socials, it would be I am learning. Rather
- 20:15Speaker 3: than being health, it would be I am healthy. And
- 20:19Speaker 3: it's putting the affirmations to the apps.
- 20:23Speaker 4: That for what you want them to achieve.
- 20:25Speaker 3: And I just thought that was the best way to
- 20:27Speaker 3: structure it. Like, for example, if you are like doing
- 20:31Speaker 3: with work and you work and create a space, and
- 20:33Speaker 3: if you've got apps on your phone like Google Docs,
- 20:35Speaker 3: sheets all that stuff, even though that's quite boring of
- 20:40Speaker 3: an app, you'd have it like I am productive or
- 20:43Speaker 3: I am creative. And having your apps reflect what you
- 20:47Speaker 3: want them to do is the same as like setting
- 20:50Speaker 3: your bank account as your savings goal. Right, So it's
- 20:54Speaker 3: like tell your phone what you want it to do
- 20:57Speaker 3: and let your phone tell you.
- 20:59Speaker 4: And I just love that.
- 21:00Speaker 3: I can't remember who said that, though I didn't come
- 21:02Speaker 3: up with that, it was definitely someone else.
- 21:03Speaker 4: But we will put a credit in the show notes.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll find the link, yeah to the twet.
- 21:08Speaker 4: It went viral, but I thought it was so helpful.
- 21:11Speaker 2: It's just about setting intension. Yeah, it's the same with
- 21:14Speaker 2: your savings or with your apps or whatever. It is
- 21:17Speaker 2: just being a little bit more mindful about the things
- 21:19Speaker 2: that you're using in you know, everyday settings.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:23Speaker 2: So another tip to avoid your dependence on your phone
- 21:27Speaker 2: and mindless scrolling is microdosing raw dogging life.
- 21:32Speaker 3: I have seen this going viral of like men raw
- 21:37Speaker 3: dogging flights. Yeah, and can I just say I could
- 21:40Speaker 3: simply never No, but it's on a.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Flight that's probably not where.
- 21:44Speaker 3: I'm like, I haven't seen the trend like heaps. I've
- 21:48Speaker 3: seen like a couple and it's basically they like just
- 21:51Speaker 3: raw dog to twenty hour flight, no entertainment, no headphones,
- 21:55Speaker 3: no anything. I'm like, oh my god, that that's a
- 21:59Speaker 3: step too far to me. But you've got some other
- 22:02Speaker 3: ways that we could raw dog life.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Yeah, so here are a few examples of where you can,
- 22:09Speaker 2: you know, either leave your phone at home or maybe
- 22:11Speaker 2: put it in another room. It doesn't have to be
- 22:13Speaker 2: your little Peter Pan shadow coming along with you the
- 22:16Speaker 2: toilet or the shower. Blasphem me, am I wrong though.
- 22:21Speaker 3: No, you're not, You're actually very right, but that, yeah,
- 22:26Speaker 3: that's true.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Yes, shower, I will raw dog where I have music
- 22:33Speaker 2: all the time or a show or YouTube all the time. Yeah,
- 22:36Speaker 2: I always have something the populat that.
- 22:41Speaker 4: I like the shower.
- 22:42Speaker 3: I like the shower thoughts. I like the process of
- 22:44Speaker 3: shower thoughts. It is like a form of meditation because
- 22:47Speaker 3: we don't just sit with our thoughts enough.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Number two, going to the shops, Oh, take your wallet.
- 22:54Speaker 2: You don't need to use applebet Like if you're just
- 22:57Speaker 2: going down the road, yeah, you know, and then you
- 23:00Speaker 2: you can like walk down the street and maybe like
- 23:02Speaker 2: look up and look around, smile at somebody who's walking toward.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Feel the rain on your skin.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Listen to the tunes they're always blasting in the supermarkets.
- 23:11Speaker 2: They are always playing do you know what? Actually at
- 23:14Speaker 2: the supermarket that is where you truly get the Friday
- 23:18Speaker 2: forgotten bang it. It's the morning shift podcasts. And at
- 23:22Speaker 2: the fucking supermarkets. The amount of times that I've actually
- 23:25Speaker 2: like taken my headphones out and being like no, I
- 23:27Speaker 2: prefer what they're playing, like this is an absolute hit
- 23:30Speaker 2: that I haven't heard in about eighteen years.
- 23:31Speaker 3: See. The thing is, though, and I think a lot
- 23:33Speaker 3: of people would also relate to this is the sensory
- 23:38Speaker 3: overload of shopping, which is why like you would take
- 23:41Speaker 3: your phone and you'd put headphones on right.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Yeah, but a lot of shops are building out these
- 23:45Speaker 4: quiet hours.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Yeah, Like I think Cole's has it, and I'm not
- 23:49Speaker 3: too sure, but you could probably just look it up.
- 23:51Speaker 3: But they have quiet hours where you basically go and
- 23:54Speaker 3: it's meant to be a little bit less overwhelming.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Yah, because I never.
- 24:00Speaker 3: And it's very much an inclusivity movement, which I think
- 24:04Speaker 3: is absolutely amazing and I would love to see it
- 24:06Speaker 3: rolled out into multiple stores. But even if a store
- 24:11Speaker 3: doesn't have that, maybe identifying a time when it is
- 24:14Speaker 3: going to be a little bit quieter so it isn't
- 24:16Speaker 3: as overwhelming, because I definitely feel that whenever it's like
- 24:19Speaker 3: a bit of a sensory overload and I feel a
- 24:22Speaker 3: bit I get a bit of a Sunday afternoon absolutely.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Or don't new Yeah, yeah, okay, next one, watching a
- 24:29Speaker 2: movie at home, put your phone in another room. I
- 24:33Speaker 2: feel like the amount of movies that I've barely even
- 24:35Speaker 2: consumed because I'm half scrolling on my phone at the
- 24:39Speaker 2: same time and.
- 24:40Speaker 4: Watching it, and then you're like, what happened?
- 24:42Speaker 2: Yeah, But even if you need to start small by
- 24:44Speaker 2: doing it when you're watching the office, like put your
- 24:47Speaker 2: phone in another room, then you can extend that to
- 24:49Speaker 2: a longer TV show than a movie, But I think
- 24:52Speaker 2: it just needs to be not on your person, yeah,
- 24:55Speaker 2: otherwise you will reach for it. And then also catching
- 24:58Speaker 2: up with a friend as well, Like if you're going
- 25:00Speaker 2: to meet somebody for coffee and you're not going too
- 25:02Speaker 2: far and you do feel comfortable and safe enough to
- 25:05Speaker 2: go without your phone, be like, hey, I'm going to
- 25:08Speaker 2: meet you there at ten o'clock and then go meet
- 25:11Speaker 2: them there because I'm like, that's what our parents did.
- 25:14Speaker 3: I feel like it would be good to end this
- 25:15Speaker 3: episode as well with some productive swaps.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Yes, so because I think we all know.
- 25:21Speaker 3: As well that it's not good, like not good to
- 25:25Speaker 3: be you know, doom scrolling. Yeah, and it is good
- 25:27Speaker 3: to have a detox. But as well, I think it's
- 25:31Speaker 3: good to utilize the accessibility that we have with them
- 25:35Speaker 3: because it is really cool. Like the technology is really
- 25:37Speaker 3: cool and it's not all bad. So what are some
- 25:41Speaker 3: productive swaps to replace your doom scrolling?
- 25:44Speaker 2: Clean out your notes app?
- 25:45Speaker 3: I love doing this, and you know what, sometimes I
- 25:48Speaker 3: think some new ones do you know what?
- 25:50Speaker 2: Cleaning out your notes app gives the same energy as
- 25:53Speaker 2: hell me when you're cleaning your room and then you
- 25:56Speaker 2: end up with like random cowboy hat on a metal
- 25:59Speaker 2: that you want at the year six running Carnival.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Let's open up and find the weirdest thing in there, because.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Some of the memories that you find like, not only
- 26:09Speaker 2: is it productive and you know, kind of clears the
- 26:11Speaker 2: cobwebs out of your notes at but we go.
- 26:14Speaker 3: For a scroll I have I have so this is
- 26:18Speaker 3: my cat. I've got brevecto three months pop and tel
- 26:22Speaker 3: three months two and a half kilograms. That's probably the
- 26:26Speaker 3: medication that my cat needs.
- 26:28Speaker 2: I have one that is beans betroot non slip Matt.
- 26:33Speaker 3: That sounds like it's something that Dwight Shret would write.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I've got one that just says is that meg
- 26:39Speaker 2: Max sitting there and I.
- 26:40Speaker 4: Must have seen. Yeah.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Okay, delete old message chains that you don't need anymore,
- 26:45Speaker 2: especially if they're with like an ex or an old friend.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Like al said, organize your apps in folders, go through
- 26:52Speaker 2: your bookmarks and save posts on social media and clear
- 26:56Speaker 2: those out, and our favorite decluding your camera roll screenshots.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Yeah, and if you haven't heard us talk about it before,
- 27:04Speaker 3: the swipe wipe app is like the best if you
- 27:06Speaker 3: need to clean out your camera roll and like Spring, Refresh, Detox,
- 27:11Speaker 3: declutter your camera roll. It's basically an app that pulls
- 27:15Speaker 3: in your photo albums and your camera roll, and then
- 27:18Speaker 3: you treat it like it looks like a Tinder, so
- 27:21Speaker 3: you swipe left to delete and swipe right to keep,
- 27:24Speaker 3: and then at the end of the month, it pulls
- 27:26Speaker 3: it all in and it will be like delete one
- 27:28Speaker 3: hundred and twenty four photos and I went through thousands
- 27:31Speaker 3: in like a couple of minutes.
- 27:32Speaker 4: It's also the best to do on a plane.
- 27:34Speaker 3: And then the one I would love to add to
- 27:35Speaker 3: that as well is to culor your subscriptions. So go
- 27:39Speaker 3: into your subscriptions folder and see what you're.
- 27:41Speaker 4: Still paying for.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Also, whenever you have a subscription, just unsubscribe from all
- 27:46Speaker 3: of it because you still get it for however long
- 27:49Speaker 3: it is, and then that way you're not going to
- 27:52Speaker 3: get charged for another twelve month thing. Don't wait till
- 27:54Speaker 3: the twelve months. Just unsubscribe because you still get what
- 27:57Speaker 3: you paid for and then it just won't automatically renew.
- 28:00Speaker 2: And then if you do realize that you need it,
- 28:02Speaker 2: you just sign up for it.
- 28:03Speaker 4: Yeah, you just signed up again.
- 28:04Speaker 3: You're like, oh, oh, oh, oh ma'am, what are you
- 28:07Speaker 3: doing with my staff?
- 28:08Speaker 2: See you got brain rot? WHOA? On that note, should
- 28:12Speaker 2: we move your advice with the chicks.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Best stories for pleasure clitoral energ spot stimulation. I have
- 28:24Speaker 3: yet to find a product that does something otherworldly. All
- 28:28Speaker 3: suggestions greatly accepted for investigation.
- 28:31Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 28:32Speaker 3: I feel very qualified to answer this.
- 28:35Speaker 4: Okay one.
- 28:37Speaker 3: It really depends what you like, I think very much.
- 28:41Speaker 3: So like there are things that work for some people
- 28:45Speaker 3: that do not work for others, like I leover they're
- 28:49Speaker 3: like Womanizer or Satisfy a pro or the bush or
- 28:53Speaker 3: the normal like clitoral stimulators, I feel like rare, Like
- 28:59Speaker 3: I like all of them all good. They've all got
- 29:01Speaker 3: pros and cons to them. Some are stronger, some are
- 29:04Speaker 3: a little bit more like feathery, some are more intense
- 29:08Speaker 3: that it really really is down to kind of your
- 29:12Speaker 3: body because some people are a little bit more sensitive.
- 29:14Speaker 3: Like I recommended a womanizer to someone and they were
- 29:17Speaker 3: like what the fuck? They were like that was a lot,
- 29:21Speaker 3: and I was like, yeah, there could be a lot.
- 29:24Speaker 3: It really does depend on yourself and your body. So
- 29:29Speaker 3: I think those brands are definitely ones that I would
- 29:31Speaker 3: look at and read the reviews, but basically, I know
- 29:37Speaker 3: it's not super helpful, being like it depends, but it
- 29:41Speaker 3: really does. So some brands that are really good to
- 29:43Speaker 3: look at love Honey Bush, Normal and it was another
- 29:50Speaker 3: one sexy Land. And you can get toys that are
- 29:54Speaker 3: both a G spot stimulator and a clitoral stimulator. So
- 29:59Speaker 3: the clitoral stimul is the one that has a little sucky,
- 30:01Speaker 3: sucky thing on the outside.
- 30:02Speaker 2: It's like a pulsating air.
- 30:04Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's great and I love them, and that's
- 30:06Speaker 3: what I would recommend.
- 30:07Speaker 4: I'm definitely more of an It depends as well. If
- 30:09Speaker 4: you're an.
- 30:09Speaker 3: External internal person, Like, if you prefer internal stimulation, you're
- 30:14Speaker 3: gonna like a G spot one more. If you're an
- 30:16Speaker 3: external you're gonna like a clitter or stimulator more. Yeah,
- 30:20Speaker 3: have a play, have a play, have some fan this
- 30:22Speaker 3: beeaed is sick. I want to take a ride on
- 30:24Speaker 3: the disco stick.
- 30:25Speaker 2: And we do have a code for Normal, so you
- 30:28Speaker 2: can use Broke Chicks fifteen for fifteen percent off. So
- 30:32Speaker 2: we put a link in all the deats in the
- 30:33Speaker 2: show notes.
- 30:34Speaker 3: What's sexier than a promo code? Tell me that that's
- 30:37Speaker 3: what gets me off. Yeah, that's your kink, that's my kink,
- 30:39Speaker 3: saving money LAM. Anyway, thank you jeks having us in
- 30:44Speaker 3: your ear holes.
- 30:45Speaker 4: We l l love to be here. And thanks for
- 30:48Speaker 4: using your phones in a healthy.
- 30:51Speaker 2: A healthy and productive word exactly.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Sorry, it's shamefrey zone, honey.
- 30:55Speaker 4: Shamefrey's zone.
- 30:56Speaker 3: And thank you to MK made for making this episode
- 30:59Speaker 3: of two Brick, two Brick Chicks.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Two Brick Chicks, two breaks upen.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Thanks thanks for making this episode of two Bricks happen.
- 31:07Speaker 4: We'll see you on Thursday.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Bye chick, bye m hmm
