- 0:03Justin Alan Hayes: Welcome to another episode of the Voices for Voices TV show and podcast.
- 0:07Justin Alan Hayes: I am your host, founder and executive director of Voices for Justin Alan Hayes.
- 0:13Justin Alan Hayes: Thank you for joining us, whether you're here in the United States or across the world over 50 countries, 620 cities.
- 0:22Justin Alan Hayes: We couldn't do this without your love and support.
- 0:26Justin Alan Hayes: Over the years.
- 0:27Justin Alan Hayes: We're well over 200 episodes on our way to 300 total by the end of 2025.
- 0:36Justin Alan Hayes: And we are very, very excited to have our guests with us today, to have our guest with us today.
- 0:49Justin Alan Hayes: As you know, I love to learn and to find my new areas of what people do and how they do it, and so we wanted to bring this guest to you to be able to share some of that.
- 1:04Justin Alan Hayes: I'm going to give a little bit of a little bit of a bio and then we're just going to jump into conversation here, and the interesting part here on the bio of the first slide says that, in a word, he's boring, but we don't think so.
- 1:23Justin Alan Hayes: He has always been a writer.
- 1:27Justin Alan Hayes: When he was oh, wow, yeah, his mom taught him to read.
- 1:33Justin Alan Hayes: When he was two to three, he had an 11th grade reading level going into first grade, which is miraculous.
- 1:42Justin Alan Hayes: He's always been writing plays and stories in grade school.
- 1:46Justin Alan Hayes: He's written several Christian plays that he has performed with various small groups.
- 1:53Justin Alan Hayes: Over time.
- 1:54Justin Alan Hayes: He's also written a novel that he has been attempting to see if he can get that published in some way.
- 2:03Justin Alan Hayes: If anybody who's out there can help, please let us know.
- 2:08Justin Alan Hayes: He's also written several scripts for what he calls ASMR, but he likes to refer to it as POV Theater, which online voice actors can use if they so choose.
- 2:23Justin Alan Hayes: His scripts can be found on Reddit.
- 2:27Justin Alan Hayes: His username you may have heard and know that is edgyscript, which is E-D-G-I-S-C-R-I-P-T, and he has had over 300 fills on these scripts.
- 2:46Justin Alan Hayes: We'll understand a little bit what a fill is.
- 2:49Justin Alan Hayes: The scripts are all over the board as far as theme and genre, but he does have a general rule, which is one of the reasons why we're having him on our show is that they all end up well in the end for everyone involved, and he wants them to be hopeful and not dark.
- 3:09Justin Alan Hayes: Even if that script does go dark play, it go to dark places in between, and so spirit man, which is well known for, began in junior high, created a character in the full armor of God that was in the physical world, and it began as more of a campy band-ex-wearing superhero that fought over the top villains and he even had a teenage sidekick named Shine, much like Captain America's Bucky or Batman's Robin.
- 3:43Justin Alan Hayes: He has met Everett Paul Burris although he went by Paul, he didn't realize that was his first name was Everett for years as an artist and he played with the idea of turning this into an actual comic and let's just jump right in.
- 4:04Justin Alan Hayes: There's so much content, so much experience that he's had, so we want to introduce our viewers and listeners to Scott also goes by Edgescript.
- 4:20Justin Alan Hayes: Thank you for joining us.
- 4:22Scott Edgiscript: Thank you for having me.
- 4:23Scott Edgiscript: This is pretty cool.
- 4:24Scott Edgiscript: Thank you for having me.
- 4:24Scott Edgiscript: This is pretty cool.
- 4:25Scott Edgiscript: Thank you for having me on your show.
- 4:27Scott Edgiscript: All right, good night, we're leaving.
- 4:30Scott Edgiscript: No, I'm kidding, yeah, go ahead.
- 4:40Scott Edgiscript: I guess I'll start from the beginning, Just to let you know Spirit man, the comic.
- 4:45Scott Edgiscript: I, like you said, I created it when I was about 14 or 15.
- 4:51Scott Edgiscript: And it was just kind of me and my friend Paul hooked up.
- 4:58Scott Edgiscript: I was a writer, he was an artist, and we hooked up.
- 5:01Scott Edgiscript: We both were huge comic fans, Always been.
- 5:04Scott Edgiscript: Uh, for me, I've always been a Spider-Man fan, uh, as well as several others.
- 5:08Scott Edgiscript: But Spidey was my guy and it started kind of as a a GI Joe type of thing.
- 5:17Scott Edgiscript: He was going to fight this terrorist organization, Um, and it never really went anywhere.
- 5:25Scott Edgiscript: Uh, we, we were.
- 5:26Scott Edgiscript: We had high hopes and dreams, but we were a couple of teenage kids and for about a year or two we played with it, we had fun with it, we bonded over it, but we didn't really have any experience.
- 5:39Scott Edgiscript: We didn't know what we were doing.
- 5:41Scott Edgiscript: How, how do you publish?
- 5:42Scott Edgiscript: How do you?
- 5:43Scott Edgiscript: How do you get this out?
- 5:44Scott Edgiscript: Now, remember too this is really before the Internet.
- 5:49Scott Edgiscript: So publishing meant going to Marvel or DC or someplace like that, or maybe an indie marketer or trying to do it on your own.
- 5:59Scott Edgiscript: Well, we didn't have funding, we didn't have knowledge, we didn't know what to do.
- 6:03Scott Edgiscript: We realized we were in over our heads and it was a fun time.
- 6:12Scott Edgiscript: So we each went our separate ways.
- 6:13Scott Edgiscript: About 20 years later, paul contacts me Now.
- 6:20Scott Edgiscript: We've been in contact here and there every once in a while during that time, but essentially I live in the Des Moines Iowa area.
- 6:24Scott Edgiscript: I was in that area at the time.
- 6:25Scott Edgiscript: He lives in St Cloud, minnesota.
- 6:27Scott Edgiscript: He lived there.
- 6:29Scott Edgiscript: He's still there and he calls me up.
- 6:32Scott Edgiscript: He's part of this program.
- 6:33Scott Edgiscript: Oh, and I don't have it here.
- 6:38Scott Edgiscript: Did I include it in the bio?
- 6:44Justin Alan Hayes: Portable vision.
- 6:46Scott Edgiscript: Portable vision.
- 6:46Scott Edgiscript: Thank you, thank you.
- 6:47Scott Edgiscript: That's it and I want to give them a shout out to in the St Cloud area, if anyone wants to look them up, that they do amazing work.
- 6:54Scott Edgiscript: But it's it's part of a mentorship program for artists and things like that and it was and it's helping, you know, teens in need, troubled youth, things like that, and it was and it's helping, you know, teens in need, troubled youth, things like that, and just sharing the gospel with them through art and and teaching these guys you know how to become artists themselves.
- 7:14Scott Edgiscript: And it's grown.
- 7:15Scott Edgiscript: Since he talked to me it's been about boy.
- 7:20Scott Edgiscript: It's been about 15 years now since he first came back and brought this up.
- 7:24Scott Edgiscript: They have grown much, much larger and they do a lot more with.
- 7:29Scott Edgiscript: It's not just art now, it's music and other programs.
- 7:32Scott Edgiscript: But if anyone is happens to be in the central Minnesota St Cloud area, please look them up if you're interested in joining, but also if you're interested in helping.
- 7:42Scott Edgiscript: I know they'd appreciate it.
- 7:44Scott Edgiscript: Interested in joining, but also if you're interested in helping, I know they'd appreciate it.
- 7:47Scott Edgiscript: But he as a mentor, as an artist, he got to share with the students a little bit about who he was and he brought up the comic and how he he and I had this idea and we were going to do it, but it never got off the ground and the students asked him well, why can't you do it now?
- 8:05Scott Edgiscript: And he realized he had no good answer for why not.
- 8:10Scott Edgiscript: So he contacted me and he said are you, are you interested in restarting this?
- 8:16Scott Edgiscript: And now that he had gone through art college, he had actually been to several comic cons with other work and things like that.
- 8:26Scott Edgiscript: He actually had experience creating comics and publishing things.
- 8:31Scott Edgiscript: Um, and I told him I said yeah, I'm very interested.
- 8:34Scott Edgiscript: But now it's 20 years later.
- 8:35Scott Edgiscript: I'm a different person.
- 8:36Scott Edgiscript: It's going to be a different story.
- 8:38Scott Edgiscript: Are you okay with that?
- 8:40Scott Edgiscript: He's like absolutely, I'm bored.
- 8:41Scott Edgiscript: You know, you write it, I'll draw it and we'll go.
- 8:46Scott Edgiscript: And so Spirit man became less of a comic book, like I said, like you said in the bio spandex superhero type person.
- 9:00Scott Edgiscript: He became more of a soldier.
- 9:01Scott Edgiscript: So he's the story that we have now is it's Martin.
- 9:13Scott Edgiscript: He's a 15 year old kid who basically doesn't think he can handle anything, and essentially he's me, at 15 years old, who thought you know, I want to be used by God, I want to be helpful to people.
- 9:26Scott Edgiscript: I want to be out there, but but who am I, by God?
- 9:27Scott Edgiscript: I want to be helpful to people, I want to be out there, but who am I?
- 9:29Scott Edgiscript: I can't do anything and nobody notices me, nobody cares, I got no skills.
- 9:37Scott Edgiscript: And his spirit, man with the armor of God, begins projecting into the real world, and he can't figure out why, and so that's where the comic goes in.
- 9:44Scott Edgiscript: So we take that supernatural element, we start blending it into the physical so he can, so he can have these adventures and it's fun, but but also so he can begin to learn just who God made him to be.
- 10:05Scott Edgiscript: And that's one of the messages that we have with this comic is that it doesn't matter where you are and who you are, as long as you say, yeah, god, use me, you know he's got the rest, it doesn't.
- 10:28Scott Edgiscript: You don't have to have everything set, you don't have to have everything perfect.
- 10:32Scott Edgiscript: He is perfect, he's got it.
- 10:37Scott Edgiscript: You just need to be willing to let him use you.
- 10:42Scott Edgiscript: And part of what we were trying to do with it, too, was show anyone.
- 10:44Scott Edgiscript: A lot of people say this is a teen, you know, oriented thing.
- 10:45Scott Edgiscript: It's not.
- 10:46Scott Edgiscript: We didn't write it for anyone in particular Anyone.
- 10:50Scott Edgiscript: You know I'm 54 years old.
- 10:52Scott Edgiscript: You know this is, this is a story.
- 10:54Scott Edgiscript: I want to read this story.
- 10:55Scott Edgiscript: I want to.
- 10:55Scott Edgiscript: You know I'm writing it because it's story for me, but it's just to me.
- 11:01Scott Edgiscript: It was kind of sharing the excitement and the reality of spiritual warfare and how you really do make a difference.
- 11:09Scott Edgiscript: It's not just a quiet, pleasant, calming, meditating thing.
- 11:19Scott Edgiscript: You're really making a serious difference and that's part of what we were trying to get across with that.
- 11:27Justin Alan Hayes: Yeah, and it's the fact that you're kind of going to that next level, into the spiritual.
- 11:35Justin Alan Hayes: There's obviously a lot of battles that we all go through.
- 11:39Justin Alan Hayes: Should I do this, should I not?
- 11:40Justin Alan Hayes: Oh, I messed up here and so if I have a chance, should I try this again.
- 11:45Justin Alan Hayes: And so just giving, giving the audience the ability to think further helps, helps them on a deeper level than just the aesthetic side.
- 11:58Scott Edgiscript: Yeah, yeah, if you tell someone, like the Bible says, we should pray unceasingly.
- 12:06Scott Edgiscript: But what does that mean?
- 12:08Scott Edgiscript: Does that mean I'm supposed to fold my hands, get on my knees, hide in a room and, for 24 hours a day, never do anything else and just lock myself away and just be in continual prayer?
- 12:18Scott Edgiscript: No, it means that prayer is a conversation.
- 12:22Scott Edgiscript: We should continually be in that place, you and I.
- 12:26Scott Edgiscript: Right now, we're having this conversation, but we can still be in a place where God is invited in and I should be continually asking God into my life, talking to God about everything.
- 12:47Scott Edgiscript: It's not a formal ritual, the way a lot of people think it is, it's just.
- 12:53Scott Edgiscript: I mean, prayer for me is very often hey, god, how's it going?
- 12:56Scott Edgiscript: You know how you doing, you know how awesome you are.
- 13:01Scott Edgiscript: I mean that's prayer.
- 13:03Scott Edgiscript: You know it doesn't have to be.
- 13:05Scott Edgiscript: Oh dear Lord, please give us these 19 things in order.
- 13:09Scott Edgiscript: It's not.
- 13:11Scott Edgiscript: It has to be worded this way.
- 13:13Scott Edgiscript: It's talking, just like you and me are right now.
- 13:19Scott Edgiscript: So this when you tell someone about the power of prayer, most people don't get it because they just see the quiet, reflective, boring side of it, quite frankly.
- 13:34Scott Edgiscript: And so with the comic, we wanted to show the real power going on.
- 13:39Scott Edgiscript: I mean Ephesians talks about we fight against.
- 13:42Scott Edgiscript: We don't.
- 13:42Scott Edgiscript: Our fight is not against flesh and blood.
- 13:44Scott Edgiscript: Our fight is against spiritual forces in high places.
- 13:48Scott Edgiscript: Our fight is against wickedness going on in the spiritual realm and prayer and spiritual warfare makes a real difference.
- 13:58Scott Edgiscript: But it can be difficult to see and understand and that's what we were hoping with the comic it would make it more real, make people go.
- 14:08Scott Edgiscript: Oh Now, obviously it's comic, it's fictional, but we were hoping it would help people go.
- 14:15Scott Edgiscript: So that's what's happening, that's what's going on.
- 14:17Scott Edgiscript: Just kind of give them a better grasp of that kind of thing.
- 14:21Justin Alan Hayes: Yeah, from just taking a step back.
- 14:42Justin Alan Hayes: How's that?
- 14:44Justin Alan Hayes: How's it make and the ink that goes on is reaching somebody in potentially a place where they do just need that encouragement.
- 14:55Justin Alan Hayes: Yeah.
- 14:57Scott Edgiscript: It's amazing, it really is.
- 15:00Scott Edgiscript: And I can't I don't want to sound like I did this for me I really felt doing this was being obedient to the division God put on my heart.
- 15:13Scott Edgiscript: But I got to be honest.
- 15:15Scott Edgiscript: You know, I, when we started this, me and Paul I said I'm not going to pay attention to results, I just want to be obedient.
- 15:23Scott Edgiscript: God's got the results.
- 15:25Scott Edgiscript: Whatever happens happens If we touch one person, if we touch a million, whatever happens, if God said do it.
- 15:33Scott Edgiscript: I just want to.
- 15:35Scott Edgiscript: One day I'm going to stand before him, I'm going to stand before the throne and I want him to say good job, good job, you obeyed my good and good job, good job, you obeyed my good and faithful servant.
- 15:43Scott Edgiscript: Well done.
- 15:44Scott Edgiscript: That's what I was interested in.
- 15:45Scott Edgiscript: But I got to admit, yeah, one day Paul sends me I mean, we were probably two or three years into this and we'd gone to a few comic cons with this comic and I've connected with people here and there about you know about it and things like that and gotten some responses but one day he just sends me an email and said I thought you should see this, and it's just comment after comment after comment about how much we touch them and how much we reach them.
- 16:16Scott Edgiscript: And yeah, I got to admit it made me tear up and it was like, wow, I'm actually reaching somebody.
- 16:23Scott Edgiscript: And we've received uh letters from uh prison chaplains.
- 16:29Scott Edgiscript: Uh, they're using it.
- 16:31Scott Edgiscript: And we've received in hospital chaplains people who come in uh to the hospital that are suicidal or going through other difficulties and they said it's it's really helping them and it's really reaching these people in these situations, and that to know that it really actually is having real effects on people is is overwhelming to me and that's a Testament of who God is, not who I am, because I'm I mean, in all seriousness, I'm an incompetent boob.
- 17:05Scott Edgiscript: I am too yeah, I mean I and I embrace that.
- 17:12Scott Edgiscript: I don't say that to say to talk about how worthless I am and get this false sense of self-righteousness.
- 17:23Scott Edgiscript: Honestly, a lot of people do that.
- 17:25Scott Edgiscript: Oh, I'm terrible.
- 17:26Scott Edgiscript: What they're really looking is for you to go.
- 17:28Scott Edgiscript: No, you're not, you're wonderful.
- 17:30Scott Edgiscript: You know, I'm not looking for that.
- 17:32Scott Edgiscript: I'm trying to be honest and say I can't handle this, those results.
- 17:39Scott Edgiscript: In no way in my history and my experience, my education, should this be happening.
- 17:44Scott Edgiscript: This is truly god and I want to give you a brief, if it's okay.
- 17:49Scott Edgiscript: Uh, a brief example.
- 17:50Scott Edgiscript: Um, uh, you read in the bio that that I had written several plays and, uh, I performed one one time.
- 17:58Scott Edgiscript: This is an example what I'm talking about.
- 18:00Scott Edgiscript: Uh, I performed one one time.
- 18:02Scott Edgiscript: This is an example of what I'm talking about.
- 18:04Scott Edgiscript: I performed one one time called the Executioner and it was about and I did it with a youth group, with a church youth group, and we went to a place and performed it and it's about a guy who he is saved, he knows Jesus, but he's not really living it and he doesn't really care and he's not chasing God.
- 18:19Scott Edgiscript: And so an angel comes and basically gives him a message, says God's going to reveal to you how, just what he did for you, and why you shouldn't take this for granted.
- 18:27Scott Edgiscript: And the guy goes back in time and it turns out he is the executioner of Jesus Christ.
- 18:35Scott Edgiscript: So he didn't, he nailed, he nailed Jesus down personally.
- 18:41Scott Edgiscript: And when it comes back to the very end, he goes, he meets these people, he connects with people.
- 18:46Scott Edgiscript: It turns out he's he's the guy who actually has to.
- 18:49Scott Edgiscript: And when he does, he slams his hand on the ground on stage three times.
- 18:54Scott Edgiscript: On the last one, he stays down and everything goes dark.
- 18:57Scott Edgiscript: And as it comes back up, the angel comes back out and the character's name was Jack and he says Jack, you're back.
- 19:05Scott Edgiscript: And Jack is just bawling and he says I nailed him, I nailed him down.
- 19:12Scott Edgiscript: And the third time he says it, he screams I nailed Jesus Christ to the cross.
- 19:18Scott Edgiscript: And the angel's last line is everyone has Jack, everyone has.
- 19:25Scott Edgiscript: Now we're performing this piece in front of a church.
- 19:29Scott Edgiscript: It was the first time I performed it with this group and I'm the drama director for these kids and I'm watching through the whole thing and, of course, I'm the director and I'm seeing oh, they did that wrong.
- 19:40Scott Edgiscript: Oh, he said that wrong.
- 19:41Scott Edgiscript: Oh, he should have been turned here.
- 19:51Scott Edgiscript: Oh, the blocking was wrong.
- 19:53Scott Edgiscript: I'm seeing all the errors.
- 19:54Scott Edgiscript: I'm saying, oh, we're going to have to correct this in practice.
- 19:56Scott Edgiscript: And so my time is coming on to perform.
- 19:59Scott Edgiscript: I get up from, I'm in the audience.
- 20:00Scott Edgiscript: I get up quietly because I got to go around to the back.
- 20:03Scott Edgiscript: I'm going to come in from the back and there's a cord on the floor and I didn't see it and I trip, wham, I hit the ground and I'm down on the ground.
- 20:14Scott Edgiscript: I wouldn't, didn't hurt myself, but I'm thinking, oh no, everyone's looking at me.
- 20:17Scott Edgiscript: And so I stayed down as long as possible.
- 20:19Scott Edgiscript: So I looking at me, and so I stayed down as long as possible till I figured everyone in the audience turned back and is focusing on the stage.
- 20:32Scott Edgiscript: And then I ran out to the back, I do, I come in, I do my part, and then I tell jack, you've got to be the one to nail him.
- 20:36Scott Edgiscript: You do it and I leave, I'm in the back, I'm, I'm in a hidden room.
- 20:40Scott Edgiscript: We're waiting for the last part to be done.
- 20:42Scott Edgiscript: And there was another person back there who had a part earlier and he goes what are we supposed to do when it's all done?
- 20:47Scott Edgiscript: And I realized, oh no, I didn't tell anyone.
- 20:50Scott Edgiscript: I didn't tell anyone what we're going to do when we're finished.
- 20:52Scott Edgiscript: So I said, I said just follow me.
- 20:55Scott Edgiscript: We're.
- 20:57Scott Edgiscript: I hear them, I listen for the last line.
- 20:59Scott Edgiscript: We give it a couple of beats, they exit the stage.
- 21:03Scott Edgiscript: I said follow me.
- 21:04Scott Edgiscript: We walk out on stage.
- 21:06Scott Edgiscript: And I realized we haven't done, I haven't prepared anything.
- 21:09Scott Edgiscript: The audience might think this is part of it.
- 21:11Scott Edgiscript: So I just look at the audience and I kind of go.
- 21:13Scott Edgiscript: That's it.
- 21:24Scott Edgiscript: You know, really anticlimactic, you know, and all I'm thinking is myself is oh, we screwed up so bad.
- 21:27Scott Edgiscript: I go and I sit down, the pastor comes up to the front and there's dead silence for about 45 seconds and what's going through my mind is oh man, they're trying to find something good to say.
- 21:37Scott Edgiscript: They're trying to find something good to say.
- 21:39Scott Edgiscript: They're trying to find some way to salvage this.
- 21:42Scott Edgiscript: And when she starts talking, her voice is cracking and she's stuttering and stammering.
- 21:52Scott Edgiscript: And it suddenly hits me oh my goodness, she's been overwhelmed.
- 21:57Scott Edgiscript: And when she can finally speak, she says crying.
- 22:02Scott Edgiscript: She says I hope you understand what a blessing you've received this day.
- 22:11Scott Edgiscript: And then afterwards people are just crying and coming up and hugging us and thanking us for coming, and all I could think of is I sat there and I just went.
- 22:23Scott Edgiscript: God, thank you for this experience, because this is you.
- 22:26Scott Edgiscript: All I could see was the errors.
- 22:28Scott Edgiscript: All I could see was the blunders.
- 22:29Scott Edgiscript: All I could see was the.
- 22:31Scott Edgiscript: We are incapable, we screwed up so bad.
- 22:34Scott Edgiscript: I mean, I hit my face, I messed up the end.
- 22:38Scott Edgiscript: I was like and this, we got this result and and people are genuinely touched and and I just I thanked him because I said that was just a reminder to me I'm just the vessel, he's the potter, I'm the clay.
- 22:55Scott Edgiscript: Anything good that has come out of my life he gets credit for.
- 22:58Scott Edgiscript: And and I just appreciated that experience.
- 23:05Scott Edgiscript: And with Spirit man 2, I had that experience because of the fact that, you know, I created Spirit man.
- 23:09Scott Edgiscript: Right, I'm the creator, I'm the writer, it's mine.
- 23:12Scott Edgiscript: No, I appreciated that 20 years later I had given it up, it was gone, it was never going to happen.
- 23:18Scott Edgiscript: When Paul came back to me, I just had this feeling that, god, this is yours.
- 23:24Scott Edgiscript: To me it was dead and gone, but you wanted it to happen, so you made this happen.
- 23:32Scott Edgiscript: So I don't consider myself the creator of Spirit man anymore.
- 23:35Scott Edgiscript: I consider myself God's steward.
- 23:37Scott Edgiscript: It's his, he owns it, he's just put me in charge of it for a time.
- 23:44Justin Alan Hayes: Yeah, that's very powerful, and I have similar experiences where I go through a particular experience and all I'm looking at is the fault and what can do this, and I should have done that and I should have talked to this person or whatever that may be.
- 24:05Scott Edgiscript: and then when it's easy to do, isn't?
- 24:07Justin Alan Hayes: it.
- 24:07Justin Alan Hayes: It's so.
- 24:08Justin Alan Hayes: Yeah, that's the easy part is where a lot of us are.
- 24:13Justin Alan Hayes: You thought, with corporate america and everything of you know you have your goals and did you meet them and didn't you?
- 24:19Justin Alan Hayes: And so much time is focused on the negative of oh well, you're doing great, but there's these other things over here that you could do much better, and I think, just in general as a society, as human beings, we spend more time just reflecting on the positives that we would have a better, uh, let's say better, uh, better perspective on on ourselves.
- 24:46Justin Alan Hayes: That's like okay, well, yeah, I may have screwed this up or this might not have worked.
- 24:50Justin Alan Hayes: Um, but look at all these other things that I I've done and and that's part of what, uh, it landed me kind of in the psych ward in 2017, at rock bottom, mental health wise, and and it was all about the, the, the things I didn't do, that I didn't.
- 25:06Justin Alan Hayes: I could have done better that you know, the relationships I've treated, people and and instead of going, oh, my gosh, like I'm, well, I'm not the nobody's perfect, I mean God's perfect.
- 25:19Justin Alan Hayes: Yeah, so I shouldn't be expecting that every single thing that I do, every single step of the way, uh, right, it's going to be like that and I think that that's helpful and that that, and then, after all, that it was probably one of the best feelings you had once you kind of thought about it and as she was speaking to the audience, because it's a very freeing feeling to know God's got it, he's in charge.
- 25:59Scott Edgiscript: He only is asking you to obey.
- 26:01Scott Edgiscript: He's not asking you to be perfect.
- 26:04Scott Edgiscript: He says I'm perfect, just let me work through you.
- 26:07Justin Alan Hayes: Yeah, uh, so you do also a voiceover.
- 26:12Scott Edgiscript: Work Is that right, I don't do voiceover work myself.
- 26:15Scott Edgiscript: What I do is, um, I've I started to write scripts online for ASMR artists, on YouTube primarily.
- 26:26Scott Edgiscript: I mean they can be other platforms, but it's primarily YouTube.
- 26:29Scott Edgiscript: There's a long story with that too, and it's an amazing tale too, because this is not directly Christian in nature.
- 26:37Scott Edgiscript: They're just cute stories.
- 26:39Scott Edgiscript: They're just fun stories that I wrote.
- 26:41Scott Edgiscript: Christian in nature, they're just cute stories.
- 26:44Scott Edgiscript: They're just fun stories that I wrote.
- 26:45Scott Edgiscript: They do have.
- 26:53Scott Edgiscript: Now there's a long explanation of how I got to you know point Q, but I don't want to take you through you know A, through what you know, all the way through.
- 26:57Scott Edgiscript: That'd be too boring for one thing, uh, but I was writing these scripts for fun and, like I said, uh, you said, I always want to keep them positive and hopeful.
- 27:10Scott Edgiscript: A lot of scripts that other people write just end dark and depressing and uh, uh, very much, as some of them are, you know, very horror oriented, which you know.
- 27:20Scott Edgiscript: It's like, ok, you want to write that, that's cool, but I'm not going to go that route.
- 27:24Scott Edgiscript: Everything in mind has, you know, they tend to be a little romantic.
- 27:28Scott Edgiscript: You know, the guy gets the girl in the end.
- 27:31Scott Edgiscript: He's not, not just left like nope, everything stinks and you shouldn't put all this effort in, because you know your life life is a tragedy.
- 27:40Scott Edgiscript: I didn't want to go down that road, um, so I started writing these scripts and I started building a little bit of a following.
- 27:49Scott Edgiscript: Uh, and different voice actors online were picking up my scripts.
- 27:53Scott Edgiscript: So, like you said, I've had about 300 fills now, which means a voice actor has taken my script and actually performed it on YouTube or somewhere else.
- 28:03Scott Edgiscript: So that's what a fill is.
- 28:04Scott Edgiscript: They filled my script.
- 28:06Scott Edgiscript: Now, what in the middle of all this?
- 28:11Scott Edgiscript: This is also where the novel came from.
- 28:13Scott Edgiscript: So I wrote one script for voice actors.
- 28:18Scott Edgiscript: When I got done with it, it kept haunting me.
- 28:20Scott Edgiscript: It was like I, in this, in this short 30 minute script, I felt like I created a much bigger world, and so I went.
- 28:27Scott Edgiscript: It kept driving me.
- 28:29Scott Edgiscript: I was just obsessed by this.
- 28:31Scott Edgiscript: I would come home from work and it was like I had to focus on the script and I wrote this novel and and I and I kind of kept going back to god like why, what?
- 28:43Scott Edgiscript: Why do I feel so driven to do all of this?
- 28:46Scott Edgiscript: And, and it again is one of those things where I'm just trying to be obedient and I don't, in my logic, my my perception, I don't know why I'm here.
- 28:56Scott Edgiscript: Um, this didn't seem to be something that made a lot of sense, but I've made connections in this world and I've touched certain people that I can.
- 29:13Scott Edgiscript: I'm starting to see.
- 29:14Scott Edgiscript: I think God in his sometimes we never know, sometimes, honestly, we never know God says I want you to go here, I want you to do this thing.
- 29:23Scott Edgiscript: We do it, we walk away.
- 29:24Scott Edgiscript: We never see the fruit, we never see the result.
- 29:26Scott Edgiscript: We just have to go on faith.
- 29:28Scott Edgiscript: That says God.
- 29:29Scott Edgiscript: You put me there.
- 29:29Scott Edgiscript: I don't know why, but I was obedient.
- 29:32Scott Edgiscript: But I believe God has allowed me to start seeing some of the fruit, and one of them in particular.
- 29:42Scott Edgiscript: I just want to, if it's okay, to give a shout out.
- 29:44Scott Edgiscript: Yes, one voice actor in particular I I'm debating whether I should say her name because I haven't got her permission.
- 29:56Scott Edgiscript: Yeah, but no, I'm going to go ahead.
- 30:01Scott Edgiscript: I think she'd be okay with it.
- 30:02Scott Edgiscript: She goes by the name Dragon's Tower.
- 30:04Scott Edgiscript: She's online as Dragon's Tower and she puts out very wholesome pieces, but she does what I call POV theater, where that most of all these people do, where it's like the listener is an active participant, so so it's point of view.
- 30:27Scott Edgiscript: It's like if I'm talking to you hey, how are you going, how are you doing today?
- 30:32Scott Edgiscript: And then there's silence in the script because the listener is supposed to be responding and then the speaker will say that's good to hear, wow, I'm glad, and it'll keep going that way.
- 30:43Scott Edgiscript: So it's a dialogue, but one of the parts is silent because the listener is supposed to be that part.
- 30:50Scott Edgiscript: So you're talking to the person who's actually listening to the presentation, person who's actually listening to the presentation.
- 31:02Scott Edgiscript: And someone took one of my scripts and did it and she was amazing and this was like her first or second script she had done period.
- 31:09Scott Edgiscript: And I was like, wow, this is incredibly professional, this is amazingly well done.
- 31:14Scott Edgiscript: So I started a communication with her Thank you for doing my script and and and and.
- 31:19Scott Edgiscript: Initially it was just very much, you're amazing, no, you're amazing, patting each other on the back, doing all that kind of thing.
- 31:25Scott Edgiscript: But as it went on, she did a few of mine and we started to connect personally and I started to find out more and more about her, and I won't go into details because, like I said, I haven't got her permission to share everything.
- 31:39Scott Edgiscript: But she, I found out she was going through some really, really hard times in her life and and, uh, a relationship, you know, someone left her, someone was abusive in their relationship, uh, a family relationship that was incredibly destructive and then, on top of this, a medical situation that was just devastating.
- 32:03Scott Edgiscript: And it was like one thing after another kept piling on.
- 32:07Scott Edgiscript: But with me she was always smiling and upbeat and cheerful and I was like this person is amazing.
- 32:19Scott Edgiscript: And I had been praying for her.
- 32:23Scott Edgiscript: I had been, I had been communicating with her as best I could.
- 32:26Scott Edgiscript: My you know Christianity, you know my beliefs, started to come into this conversation.
- 32:32Scott Edgiscript: I leave it out at the beginning, not because I'm embarrassed about it, but I truly believe nobody cares about what you think until nobody cares about what you know, until they know that you care.
- 32:44Scott Edgiscript: And I wanted to genuinely love these people and and, and this person in particular.
- 32:50Scott Edgiscript: My heart just went out to her and one day I just commented, I just sent her a text and I said look.
- 32:56Scott Edgiscript: And one day I just commented, I just sent her a text and I said look, I've adopted you.
- 33:01Scott Edgiscript: I said just, I want you to know you're my daughter now and she didn't have any parents at that time.
- 33:06Scott Edgiscript: They had died.
- 33:09Scott Edgiscript: And I just said, well, you're my daughter and I don't care.
- 33:13Scott Edgiscript: And I wanted to be genuine, but I was.
- 33:22Scott Edgiscript: I was playfully, uh, expressing it and said, and I don't care what you say, you have no say in the matter.
- 33:24Scott Edgiscript: Uh, I'm, I'm taking you.
- 33:25Scott Edgiscript: You know it's kind of jokingly.
- 33:27Scott Edgiscript: I was saying like I'm kidnapping you.
- 33:28Scott Edgiscript: Uh, you're, you're my long distance.
- 33:31Scott Edgiscript: Um, now, are you familiar with a?
- 33:34Scott Edgiscript: Yandere is no, no, okay, it's, it's a, it's a, it's a thing going on.
- 33:40Scott Edgiscript: It's, it's an old trope, but right now it's become fairly big in anime and in Japan.
- 33:44Scott Edgiscript: Yandere is Japanese for ill love, so it's those stories about someone who is so psychotically obsessed, obsessively in love with you that they'll do things like kidnap you and lock you in their basement so no one else can have you, and that kind of thing.
- 33:59Scott Edgiscript: So some of my stories have gone along this yonder day theme, uh, but, like I said, uh minor, uplifting and wholesome.
- 34:07Scott Edgiscript: So it's always it's either like the person has like a tragic past or something that they've gone to this length, and then you find out about it and then the listener like actually steps in and helps them through it, or something like that.
- 34:18Scott Edgiscript: So I had played around with these Yandere themes and so I jokingly I said you're my Yandere long distance daughter.
- 34:27Scott Edgiscript: You have no say in the matter, I'm just taking you and I just wanted her to know I'm going to be there for you.
- 34:36Scott Edgiscript: I just wanted her to know I'm going to be there for you.
- 34:40Scott Edgiscript: You've got a lot of crap going on in your life and and you're on my heart and I'm going to love you and my.
- 34:45Scott Edgiscript: My biggest worry when I sent that out was she was going to respond with this is creepy.
- 34:50Scott Edgiscript: I'd rather you never contacted me again, that kind of thing.
- 34:54Scott Edgiscript: But she came back calling me dad and and I got to tell you.
- 35:03Scott Edgiscript: You know, I, I started crying when she did that.
- 35:06Scott Edgiscript: I mean I and, and to this day now we've known each other for about since that happened, we've she's been my daughter for about seven months now.
- 35:16Scott Edgiscript: Every morning, I, I, I, I send her a discord.
- 35:20Scott Edgiscript: You know, uh, um, you know, good morning Uh, my, you know my wonderful, amazing daughter.
- 35:27Scott Edgiscript: Uh, I've been sending her Bible studies.
- 35:30Scott Edgiscript: Uh, she has received a new man in her life that is a wonderful man of God and has been helping her too, and I'm just rejoicing over everything that's been happening in her life and the fact that I can be there for it.
- 35:46Scott Edgiscript: And in the middle of all this, I sat back and went God, is that why I'm here?
- 35:53Scott Edgiscript: Is that what?
