- 0:32what's going on everybody it
- 0:34is lunch time lunch with
- 0:36the clydesdale tuesday
- 0:38afternoon what's going on I
- 0:42was really struggling today
- 0:43to come up with some things
- 0:44to talk about on the show
- 0:46today and I made some stuff
- 0:50up had some stuff going on
- 0:51put it in the description
- 0:54and now I think we're gonna
- 0:55scrap most of that
- 0:58Um,
- 0:59I watched boys interrupted this morning
- 1:02and now I've got some content,
- 1:05got some content.
- 1:07So we're going to go down that road.
- 1:08The other thing is, uh,
- 1:10it was announced this
- 1:10morning that my Chicago
- 1:12bears signed Joe Tooney to
- 1:15a two-year extension.
- 1:16We traded for him this off season,
- 1:19got him from the Kansas city chiefs.
- 1:21He is considered to be the
- 1:22best offensive guard in football.
- 1:24And now we have signed him
- 1:27to a two-year extension.
- 1:28So we have him for three years.
- 1:31And that is awesome.
- 1:33I'm really excited about
- 1:34this year's bear season.
- 1:37I was excited last year and
- 1:38got thoroughly disappointed.
- 1:40I'm hoping this year is much better.
- 1:44The other thing about today
- 1:45is I hopped on here and
- 1:48StreamYard actually worked
- 1:49correctly today for the
- 1:50first time in like a week.
- 1:52So that's good news, right?
- 1:54So that only means that
- 1:56today's dart throw has got to be good.
- 1:59It's got to be.
- 2:00So here we go.
- 2:05If you guys saw where that land,
- 2:06you would laugh your ass off.
- 2:09Oh my gosh.
- 2:11So I have a shelf.
- 2:13I have a shelf below the
- 2:15dartboard where I put like
- 2:18markers and stuff for a
- 2:19whiteboard to like keep
- 2:20track of everything.
- 2:21I hit the front edge of the
- 2:23shelf with the dart and it
- 2:24is sticking right out of the front.
- 2:28Yeah.
- 2:28Terrible throw today.
- 2:31Jody Lynn says,
- 2:32is Tyson Bajan still with the Bears?
- 2:34He is.
- 2:35And I actually featured an
- 2:36interview with him on
- 2:37Friday's show right off the top.
- 2:41He actually brought up
- 2:42CrossFit in an interview
- 2:44with a local Chicago sports
- 2:47guy that does sports radio in Chicago.
- 2:51Brought up CrossFit as his workout style,
- 2:53what it means.
- 2:54He described it.
- 2:56Great ad for CrossFit.
- 2:59Talk about the kid preaching
- 3:01what CrossFit is and what
- 3:03it's done for him in his life.
- 3:06It's pretty freaking awesome.
- 3:07But he is still there.
- 3:10They love him there as their
- 3:12backup quarterback.
- 3:15But he's starting to gain
- 3:17interest from other teams.
- 3:22So I don't know what that means for him.
- 3:26So...
- 3:29I hope I would like for him to stay there.
- 3:31But my other hope is that
- 3:33Caleb Williams actually
- 3:33turns out to be a great
- 3:35quarterback as well.
- 3:37And then it's a good problem to have.
- 3:39But but he is still there.
- 3:41He is still their backup quarterback.
- 3:45But yeah,
- 3:45there's actually talk in some of
- 3:47the local circles that the
- 3:49Bears are trying to assign
- 3:50him to an extension.
- 3:52He'll make a lot more money
- 3:53than he did on his rookie contract,
- 3:56but I have not seen where
- 3:58that is or where that
- 3:59stands at this point.
- 4:03Corey says,
- 4:04if you look up good dude in the
- 4:05dictionary, there's a picture of Tyson.
- 4:08He's a good dude.
- 4:09It was a great interview.
- 4:11Being a Bears fan and just
- 4:14overall his optimism for
- 4:16everything and the way he
- 4:17looks at things is really, really cool.
- 4:20I really just enjoyed it.
- 4:21It was about thirty five minutes long.
- 4:23If you go back to Friday's show,
- 4:26I quote or I show the video
- 4:28so you can actually see
- 4:29where I got it from.
- 4:30But it's only thirty five minutes long.
- 4:32Super quick.
- 4:34And you can check that out there.
- 4:35It's actually called Recap, R-E-K-A-P.
- 4:39And it's David Kaplan is a
- 4:41sports radio guy on ESPN,
- 4:44one thousand in Chicago.
- 4:46And he does a podcast on the side.
- 4:51Clark says,
- 4:51given how few quarterbacks went
- 4:53in this draft,
- 4:54you might think some teams
- 4:55would be interested in Bajent.
- 4:57They actually talk about
- 4:58that on that show that I used on Friday,
- 5:01that the New Orleans Saints
- 5:02had contacted the Bears
- 5:04about the availability of
- 5:06Tyson Bajent because of
- 5:07Derek Carr's retirement.
- 5:09And they don't really have
- 5:11much in the quarterback category.
- 5:12room and they they did draft
- 5:14a quarterback this year but
- 5:15they did contact him about
- 5:17being the starter uh and I
- 5:20don't and I think the bear
- 5:21said no so there is
- 5:25interest in him and there
- 5:27is interest in him being a
- 5:28starter in the league but
- 5:30we'll see where that goes
- 5:36so the first thing I wanted
- 5:37to show real quick today
- 5:39and this isn't really what
- 5:40we're going to dive into
- 5:41but I wanted to show this
- 5:44I went to the CrossFit game
- 5:45site because yesterday in
- 5:47Dave's week in review,
- 5:48he said there's going to be
- 5:49a big announcement today.
- 5:50So I've been watching to see
- 5:51what that might be.
- 5:53Still nothing on the game site.
- 5:56Um, but I wanted to show this.
- 5:58I thought this was really, really funny.
- 6:01Um,
- 6:02so I go here and I click on the story
- 6:03just to make sure nothing is going on.
- 6:07And I don't know if you guys can see this.
- 6:09This is advertising for
- 6:11twenty twenty five CrossFit
- 6:12Games tickets.
- 6:15And the video they use is an
- 6:18athlete who has chose to
- 6:19sit out the twenty twenty
- 6:20five CrossFit Games season.
- 6:26I'm sure you have video
- 6:29footage of athletes who are
- 6:33actually participating in
- 6:35this season to sell your tickets.
- 6:39This is Jack Farlow with his
- 6:40big lift at the Games two years ago.
- 6:45It is a heck of a lift, Halpin,
- 6:47but you're advertising a person.
- 6:52It be like...
- 6:54It'd be like the Bears
- 6:55advertising season tickets
- 6:58with a picture of Mitch Trubisky.
- 7:01It just doesn't make sense.
- 7:05I mean, I don't know.
- 7:09That's just a thing I wanted to show.
- 7:11I just found it very
- 7:12peculiar that of all the
- 7:15video footage you have in
- 7:16the history of the CrossFit Games,
- 7:19I am sure that people that
- 7:20are participating in the season,
- 7:21people who have already qualified,
- 7:23you could use in the
- 7:24promotion to say whatever.
- 7:30I don't know.
- 7:36Andrew Sten says,
- 7:37maybe they did it to say we
- 7:38can use you in advertising
- 7:40our event that you don't want to go to.
- 7:43I guess.
- 7:51Hoppin says, oh, I get it.
- 7:52I have an article that was
- 7:53supposed to come out today,
- 7:54and I purposely didn't use
- 7:56non-games competing athletes.
- 8:00I think if you want to be
- 8:01topical and you want to
- 8:02talk about the season,
- 8:03you should use athletes
- 8:04that are competing in the season.
- 8:06It just makes sense.
- 8:08I mean,
- 8:08it's not like this huge error that
- 8:11is going to cost them their
- 8:12business or whatever.
- 8:14It just seems like a little
- 8:16bit of laziness or I don't know.
- 8:24The quality checks on these
- 8:26things you would think
- 8:26should be a little bit
- 8:27better than they are.
- 8:30Aaron Frazier says maybe
- 8:32there's NIL deals for
- 8:33CrossFit Games athletes.
- 8:37Yeah.
- 8:37NIL has spread from college
- 8:38football to the CrossFit Games season.
- 8:41But as of yet,
- 8:41the big announcement that's
- 8:42supposed to come out today,
- 8:43I have not seen anything on
- 8:44any of their socials.
- 8:48So still waiting to see if
- 8:50anything comes out from
- 8:52that announcement today.
- 8:54And that was something that
- 8:55Dave said in his week in
- 8:57review yesterday.
- 8:58And it seemed to be pretty
- 8:59big because he wanted to go
- 9:00into aspects of whatever
- 9:02this is going to be.
- 9:03And he kept stopping himself.
- 9:06So it doesn't seem like it's
- 9:07a simple thing like the
- 9:09lifting shoe is now the
- 9:12official lifting shoe of
- 9:13the CrossFit Games like we saw yesterday.
- 9:15It seems like a much bigger
- 9:18deal that's going to be announced today.
- 9:23So the other thing I wanted
- 9:24to talk about is Will Morad
- 9:26was on with the Boys Interrupted.
- 9:30And...
- 9:33And they actually talk about
- 9:35something we talked about
- 9:36last Friday when people in
- 9:39the comments here were
- 9:39saying that they didn't
- 9:41like the WFP because
- 9:43athletes were quitting.
- 9:50And so in The Boys Interrupted,
- 9:52Dallin actually speaks to
- 9:54this exact thing of
- 9:57athletes quitting during the WFP.
- 10:01And so I want to share this.
- 10:07So here we go.
- 10:08Again, this is Boys Interrupted.
- 10:10You can go to their YouTube
- 10:11channel to see the full
- 10:12interview with Will,
- 10:14but I'm going to do a
- 10:14little recap after this.
- 10:18I think some of the craziest
- 10:20comments I've seen is
- 10:23people saying that we're
- 10:25going to show up to these
- 10:26events and not try.
- 10:29There's no incentive to do
- 10:31well because there's the
- 10:34minimums on contract, all of those things,
- 10:36and I promise you,
- 10:37The last thing we want to do
- 10:39is show up and lose to any
- 10:40guy that's on the floor.
- 10:41And two, there are incentives to do well.
- 10:45Yes.
- 10:47Trust me,
- 10:47the last thing I want to do- The
- 10:48reason you're not out there
- 10:49is because you think that
- 10:50that's a possibility that
- 10:51we would show up and let someone beat us.
- 10:56Yeah.
- 10:57I mean,
- 10:57the last thing I want to do is-
- 10:58Stay out of my comments.
- 10:59Will these two dudes the
- 11:00next day listen to them
- 11:02beating me in a competition?
- 11:05Yeah, I don't know.
- 11:06It's important not to read too much.
- 11:08Dude,
- 11:09you're crazy if you think I'm just
- 11:11cashing a check.
- 11:12I love beating these boys.
- 11:17So they all speak to there's
- 11:19no way they're quitting on the field.
- 11:21They want to win every event.
- 11:24And...
- 11:28And that there is,
- 11:29there's too much
- 11:30competitiveness between them, uh,
- 11:32that money has no factor
- 11:34into this at all.
- 11:36Um, and so I find that, uh,
- 11:40I thought that was really
- 11:41cool because Justin Kotler
- 11:43jumped into the comments on
- 11:44Friday and said that, you know,
- 11:45these athletes would run
- 11:46over their grandmother to
- 11:47win a game of checkers.
- 11:49Um,
- 11:51And so I like that they kind
- 11:53of answered to that in kind
- 11:55of a comical way that they
- 11:57want to hear the BS from
- 11:59the other people that they lose to,
- 12:02and they want to beat each
- 12:03other so bad at every competition.
- 12:08Aaron Frazier says,
- 12:09Bethany Flores mailed it in.
- 12:10There are more competitive athletes.
- 12:13I think Bethany is an
- 12:14outlier in this case.
- 12:15Bethany got hurt.
- 12:17It seems like it's bigger
- 12:19than we know about.
- 12:20If you look at her social
- 12:21media and her YouTube channel,
- 12:23she actually did a long
- 12:24video about what happened,
- 12:27but she has not said what happened.
- 12:31And I think her idea was
- 12:34that she still wants to
- 12:35compete for a pro card,
- 12:36and right now her body just won't do it,
- 12:38but there was a way to go get some points,
- 12:41and then hopefully her body
- 12:42would be ready by tour stop
- 12:44two to then take whatever
- 12:46points she could earn and
- 12:48move forward into the season.
- 12:52But that's like a
- 12:53reoccurring thing with Bethany.
- 12:54It happened at Rogue.
- 12:55It's happened at the games.
- 12:58They're just...
- 13:02So, yeah.
- 13:06But the idea that people
- 13:07come in the chat and say
- 13:08that Laura quit on that
- 13:09last overhead walking lunge,
- 13:12there's no way in hell that
- 13:13woman would ever quit anything.
- 13:16If anybody's going to run
- 13:16over their grandmother to
- 13:17win a competition, it's Laura Horvat.
- 13:20And her body just gave up.
- 13:21She just couldn't.
- 13:23She missed on the last step
- 13:24of one of the lunges,
- 13:25and then she kept trying to
- 13:27rush it when she wasn't ready,
- 13:29and her arms gave out.
- 13:33Halpin does make a good
- 13:37point here that there is an
- 13:38incentive to do well,
- 13:39but there's also an
- 13:39incentive just to show up.
- 13:40You get two seventy season
- 13:42points for showing up.
- 13:43You get zero if you don't show up.
- 13:47So, yeah.
- 13:51And I think that that that
- 13:52is what happened with Bethany.
- 13:54But I think if you are
- 13:55healthy and you are there to compete,
- 13:58you don't want to lose.
- 14:05Aaron Frazier,
- 14:05she blew up like she did at Wazza.
- 14:07She did.
- 14:07And maybe that's a training
- 14:08thing because this has now
- 14:10happened at two events in a
- 14:11row where on the last event,
- 14:13she was unable to finish in a way.
- 14:17She lost to Lucy Campbell on
- 14:18the last event at
- 14:19Wattapalooza after having a lead.
- 14:21And then she loses on the
- 14:23overhead walking lunge
- 14:24because she can't get the
- 14:26twenty five feet in without
- 14:27dropping the dumbbells.
- 14:34Corey Leonard,
- 14:34you've never heard anyone say,
- 14:35I used to have a bad back.
- 14:36I feel Bethany is saying
- 14:39what Bethany is saying,
- 14:41but she may be done.
- 14:44And so, yeah, I, uh,
- 14:48hope not I think that
- 14:50bethany is the most
- 14:51talented athlete to never
- 14:55podium at the games because
- 14:56her her back has just never
- 14:58let her do it um and it's a
- 15:01shame because what I saw at
- 15:03west coast classic in I
- 15:05think it was she was as
- 15:10good as anybody at that point
- 15:13And it's just a shame that
- 15:17her back has failed her
- 15:19time and time again.
- 15:21And as someone who has had
- 15:23as many back procedures as I've had,
- 15:26I empathize with her in a huge way.
- 15:32So...
- 15:42So there we go.
- 15:45Haley Adams got a zero.
- 15:48Now the most Haley can get
- 15:49is fifteen hundred if she
- 15:50sweeps the next two.
- 15:52Anyone getting zero is
- 15:53behind every pro and
- 15:55challenger for a pro card,
- 15:57as is McQuaid and Kyra Milligan.
- 16:02Well, Kyra, Kyra was a challenger.
- 16:04She wasn't in the pro division, I believe.
- 16:08Um,
- 16:09but she did take a zero instead of
- 16:11taking whatever that was.
- 16:17But anyway,
- 16:18so I wanted to go over a couple
- 16:19of things that Will said in
- 16:20this interview,
- 16:22because I think it
- 16:23contradicts some other
- 16:24things that we've heard.
- 16:25And it just goes to show you
- 16:26that there's two sides to every story.
- 16:28And probably neither one of
- 16:29them are a hundred percent accurate.
- 16:31There's probably something
- 16:32in the middle that's more accurate.
- 16:36And so they were talking
- 16:37with will on there and the, and the,
- 16:39and the boys, Dallin, Jason,
- 16:41and Justin were doing a lot
- 16:43of comparisons between
- 16:44CrossFit and the WFP.
- 16:46And one thing they said is
- 16:47that they felt listened to, um,
- 16:52during this,
- 16:53which they don't always feel
- 16:55like that is the case with CrossFit.
- 16:57Uh, when they bring things up there,
- 16:59sometimes you don't get a response.
- 17:01They said they used one
- 17:02example that Pat Felner,
- 17:04a lot of times in an athlete briefing, uh,
- 17:06when they're told that they
- 17:07cannot do something and he'll say,
- 17:10what happens if I do it anyway?
- 17:12And they just say, don't do it.
- 17:15And there's no real answer
- 17:17as to what happens if you do.
- 17:20in this case at the wfp they
- 17:22were told those things or
- 17:24they changed the rule to
- 17:25allow it if they couldn't
- 17:28come up with a good reason
- 17:29to not allow it they did
- 17:32will talked about why
- 17:33things why the feed was on
- 17:35their website as opposed to
- 17:39um youtube and it's because
- 17:43If you watch the feed, you saw commercials,
- 17:46which we never see on the CrossFit feeds.
- 17:50Like there were Stri-V ads,
- 17:52there were Adidas ads,
- 17:54there were a lot of different ads.
- 17:58And they can control that on
- 18:00their own website.
- 18:01They cannot control that in YouTube.
- 18:04And so they were actually, I'm assuming,
- 18:06getting paid for those ads,
- 18:08or there was a deal done
- 18:10for those companies to get those ads,
- 18:12and they couldn't do that
- 18:15on the YouTube platform.
- 18:19They did say that they
- 18:20realized that there is a
- 18:21big problem with not being able to rewind,
- 18:24and they are working on that.
- 18:27The reason they could not
- 18:28rewind is because of the AI
- 18:30translation problem.
- 18:32but they are looking at
- 18:33doing an English only
- 18:34version that you can rewind
- 18:36for tour stop two.
- 18:42Will also said they had
- 18:43about a half a million viewers.
- 18:46I don't know if there's a
- 18:47way to confirm that because
- 18:48it is self-contained and on
- 18:49their own website.
- 18:51There's no way to really see
- 18:52if those numbers are in fact true.
- 18:57Um, they did,
- 18:58will did say that the
- 18:59lighting at the event was
- 19:01done by the world wrestling entertainment,
- 19:03WWE.
- 19:04Um,
- 19:04they brought them in to give it a
- 19:06different look, to give it more of a,
- 19:09like a theatrical look to
- 19:10the whole thing.
- 19:11Um, and that's what they did.
- 19:13And the,
- 19:14the boys on the show said that
- 19:16they actually did like the
- 19:17lighting and some of the
- 19:18effects that happened.
- 19:20Um,
- 19:20especially when the lights followed
- 19:22them down the floor, uh,
- 19:23to follow the storyline.
- 19:26Um,
- 19:29And they did not speak to
- 19:30the jerk itself in the
- 19:31lighting that has been
- 19:33brought up a couple times.
- 19:37So there's that.
- 19:39And then he also answered
- 19:41the question as to,
- 19:43was there a meeting set up with CrossFit,
- 19:45as Dave had said on his
- 19:47Week in Review a week ago,
- 19:49and what happened there?
- 19:51And that is that there was a
- 19:55meeting set up
- 19:58will was it was will was not
- 20:00the point of contact for
- 20:01that meeting but he was on
- 20:03that initial email the
- 20:05world fitness project
- 20:06according to will wrote
- 20:08back and said could they
- 20:09reschedule because they had
- 20:11some people out of the
- 20:12country at the time that
- 20:14the sit down was to happen
- 20:18when they sent that email back
- 20:20Will never got another email
- 20:22back on anything, but then again,
- 20:24he was not the lead person.
- 20:26So he can't speak for sure
- 20:27that CrossFit never got back,
- 20:29but they did say that they
- 20:32did ask for a reschedule.
- 20:33And Will said,
- 20:34I never heard another word
- 20:36from that point forward.
- 20:37And he also said that Dave
- 20:39never tried to reach out to
- 20:40him personally, but when asked,
- 20:45would they do that?
- 20:46Would they do, um,
- 20:50and a sit down.
- 20:52Will said with the pending
- 20:54sale of CrossFit,
- 20:55what's the point in going
- 20:57and having a long
- 20:57discussion with the people
- 20:58that are there when if they sell,
- 21:01it may not be the same
- 21:02people there in a few months,
- 21:06which I thought was
- 21:07actually a pretty excellent point.
- 21:09Why would you meet with
- 21:10people if they're not going
- 21:11to be there in a few months?
- 21:13Um,
- 21:16And again,
- 21:16we don't know what's happening
- 21:17with the sale.
- 21:18We don't know who's gonna be retained.
- 21:20We don't know who's gonna be let go.
- 21:22And so I do kind of
- 21:23understand when you're trying,
- 21:25when you're busy trying to
- 21:26put this thing on for the first time,
- 21:29why would you waste time
- 21:31having conversations with
- 21:32people that may not be a
- 21:33factor when it comes to that?
- 21:42Andrew Sten says in CrossFit's defense,
- 21:44you don't want to have a
- 21:45negotiation with athletes in a briefing.
- 21:47Yes, there should be some set penalties,
- 21:50but often athletes are
- 21:51looking for ways to skirt the standards.
- 21:53The other thing that I think
- 21:54the WFP did differently is
- 21:57that they released the event,
- 21:58the events three weeks ahead of time.
- 22:01So there was plenty of time
- 22:02to ask some questions
- 22:03before the briefing to get
- 22:05some things ironed out
- 22:06before the briefing happened.
- 22:08And I think that that was a good thing.
- 22:10And they also let coaches in the briefing,
- 22:13which isn't always allowed by CrossFit.
- 22:18It's the same reason many
- 22:19athletes ask judges when
- 22:20they walk out what they should be doing.
- 22:23Yeah, that should never happen.
- 22:25As a judge,
- 22:25you're told not to tell them anything.
- 22:30And Corey, of course,
- 22:31doesn't follow the rules.
- 22:36Yeah.
- 22:37The judge is not supposed to
- 22:39clarify anything out there
- 22:40that that should be done by a head judge.
- 22:45Has the jerk been brought up
- 22:46by any athlete that competed?
- 22:48I have not heard a single
- 22:49athlete talk about the lighting.
- 22:57And Andrew, this is what we're taught.
- 22:59And Corey,
- 23:00that is why we tell judges to say,
- 23:01do what you were briefed.
- 23:02Athletes are briefed in the big briefing.
- 23:04And right before the event,
- 23:05I tell judges to be a jerk
- 23:07and shut down questions.
- 23:13Um, Aaron Fraser,
- 23:14I don't think that athletes
- 23:16are the only opinion that matters,
- 23:18but I think in this point where they were,
- 23:20Will was talking to athletes.
- 23:22So you're getting, um,
- 23:25he was getting feedback on
- 23:26what they felt was going on
- 23:30with the WFP and what their
- 23:31reactions was from the athletes.
- 23:33But I do know that they also
- 23:34asked spectators, they asked volunteers,
- 23:37they asked other people.
- 23:40And I know that Dallin even
- 23:41brought up in one of his
- 23:42suggestions that the
- 23:44community event seemed
- 23:45forgotten about back in the corner.
- 23:47And that I guess they are
- 23:49going to work to get the community event,
- 23:51at least a few events on
- 23:52the main competition floor for Mesa.
- 23:58so um the way I took coaches
- 24:17and briefings was they are
- 24:18allowed that they are
- 24:20allowed just coaches to go
- 24:22to the briefing meaning
- 24:23athletes weren't required
- 24:23to sit through them if they
- 24:25wanted to leave um
- 24:31think what the the guys were
- 24:32referring to is sometimes
- 24:33at the games the coaches
- 24:35are not allowed at the
- 24:36games briefings um and I
- 24:41and I don't and I think
- 24:43I've heard dave say that
- 24:45there are times that they
- 24:46want the athlete to be able
- 24:47to make their own decisions
- 24:48without it without a
- 24:50coach's um input but I
- 24:53don't think that tests anything
- 24:56If you're going to be more
- 24:57of a pro-ish style sport,
- 25:00then athletes are going to have coaches.
- 25:03That's just what's going to
- 25:04be the case and why.
- 25:06But I know in tennis,
- 25:07like you're not supposed to
- 25:08be allowed to talk to your
- 25:09coaches during a tennis match.
- 25:12Once you're out on the floor,
- 25:13you can't really talk to your coach,
- 25:16but that's tennis.
- 25:17So.
- 25:24dry your dagger telling my
- 25:26kids I won the first ever
- 25:27WFP community events since
- 25:28there will never be any
- 25:29proof or any eyewitness
- 25:31testimony to say I didn't.
- 25:34I'll clock correct me tennis
- 25:35does allow it now.
- 25:51Yeah.
- 25:52What?
- 25:53And maybe like I just been
- 25:55around too long and too
- 25:56much stuff is cluttered in my head.
- 25:58I think it was a two
- 25:59thousand sixteen games when
- 26:00they went to Aromas.
- 26:01They took the athletes but
- 26:02didn't allow the coaches to go.
- 26:04So when they went to Aromas,
- 26:06they didn't have in the ranch.
- 26:08They didn't have the coach
- 26:10with them to help them kind
- 26:11of figure out what was
- 26:12going on on the fly.
- 26:14And that was intentional by Dave.
- 26:17So maybe I'm just
- 26:19remembering too many things.
- 26:20But that was what was said by Jason,
- 26:24Justin, and Dallin.
- 26:26And nobody quibbled with it.
- 26:28So I don't know what's going on there.
- 26:43um d reed says in individual
- 26:45sports the onus is on the
- 26:46athlete to know the rules
- 26:47and what to do yeah but
- 26:52anyway I thought it was
- 26:53just an interesting
- 26:54conversation to kind of
- 26:56hear what will had said
- 26:59especially about uh the
- 27:02communication with crossfit
- 27:04and whether they
- 27:05And the reason why they
- 27:07wouldn't meet with them now
- 27:09until the sale is done,
- 27:10that made a lot of sense to me.
- 27:12I don't know.
- 27:16I think it's a cool concept
- 27:18what they have going on.
- 27:19And I know that I'm probably
- 27:20in the minority.
- 27:22I do like the season
- 27:23structure that they have.
- 27:26And so, like, I'm all in for that.
- 27:33So...
- 27:38Anyway,
- 27:39what else do we have on the docket today?
- 27:44I saw an interesting, well,
- 27:45I was watching dense
- 27:46updates this morning and
- 27:48she brought up an
- 27:49interesting conversation
- 27:51about teams that.
- 27:56at the regional level or at
- 27:58TFX's last weekend,
- 28:00the vibe when the pro teams
- 28:02were on the floor was
- 28:04higher than when the
- 28:05individual athletes were on
- 28:07the floor because the teams
- 28:09draw more people from the
- 28:10affiliates to the event.
- 28:15But then when we get to the games,
- 28:17the stadium empties when
- 28:18the teams hit the floor
- 28:20because everybody's there
- 28:21to see the individuals.
- 28:26And so that brings up like a conundrum.
- 28:30Do we need the teams to
- 28:34actually fill the stands on
- 28:37the way up to the games?
- 28:41And then because they helped us get there,
- 28:43we can't ignore them once
- 28:44we get to the games.
- 28:52And I thought she made a great point.
- 28:54I remember back in the regional days,
- 28:57the teams were well attended.
- 29:00It was as loud for the teams
- 29:02as it was for the
- 29:04individuals because they
- 29:06were associated with an affiliate.
- 29:08The affiliate would drive to
- 29:09the regional event and they
- 29:11would cheer their asses off
- 29:13for those people because it
- 29:15was more the people that
- 29:16they worked out with on a
- 29:18day-to-day basis.
- 29:21And it seemed like that's
- 29:22what happened at TFX.
- 29:24You had big crowds going to
- 29:26TFX just to see the teams
- 29:28and root on their friends
- 29:30than there was in an
- 29:32individual field where
- 29:35people were from all over
- 29:36the western part of the North America.
- 29:44And Aaron says,
- 29:45that's the difference from
- 29:46regional teams and
- 29:47communities versus super
- 29:48teams not connected to the communities.
- 29:51I think you're right.
- 29:54I think that back then the
- 29:57affiliate teams were a big
- 29:59part of regionals because
- 30:01they did bring in the crowds.
- 30:03That's when the regionals
- 30:05were way more attended than
- 30:07anything that we have done
- 30:08in the past five years.
- 30:19I think hearing the teams
- 30:21themselves on what would work,
- 30:24I was cheering on local
- 30:25teams even though I don't
- 30:26go to their gym.
- 30:27Yeah, that makes sense.
- 30:29I know in two thousand
- 30:30sixteen when the regionals
- 30:31were here in Columbus,
- 30:34two local Columbus gyms
- 30:35were in the in the race for
- 30:38the last spot to go to the games.
- 30:42they were like fifth and
- 30:42sixth place it was crossfit
- 30:44grandview and uh cross our
- 30:47friendship crossfit and the
- 30:50place was going ballistic
- 30:52when they were on the floor
- 30:53because it was the two
- 30:54local teams trying to vie
- 30:56for that last spot to the
- 30:57crossfit games and it was
- 30:59so so loud and the funny
- 31:01thing is the guy on
- 31:02crossfit one of the guys on
- 31:03crossfit grandview that
- 31:04year was joey tutoro who is
- 31:07colton's coach now
- 31:10But it was insane.
- 31:11Insane during those events.
- 31:19Coda had five teams there.
- 31:20They did.
- 31:22Imagine how many people that
- 31:23draws in from Coda.
- 31:25And I know there's like
- 31:26three or four different
- 31:27locations of Coda.
- 31:29So... Yeah.
- 31:34I just...
- 31:35I think she's right.
- 31:36I think that we do need to
- 31:38kind of bring back the teams into these.
- 31:41If we're going to keep the
- 31:43in-person qualifying events,
- 31:46maybe teams should be
- 31:47included in that to get a
- 31:49spot or two to the games.
- 31:57why not?
- 31:58If, if,
- 31:58if TFX is going to hold a pro
- 32:00division for teams,
- 32:01syndicates holding a pro
- 32:02division for teams,
- 32:03why not give them a spot or
- 32:05two to fill for the CrossFit games?
- 32:14It only makes sense, right?
- 32:15Like,
- 32:17They're already doing it.
- 32:19Why not put the legitimacy
- 32:22on it instead of an online
- 32:24version with no video
- 32:26review and just trust
- 32:28everybody that's doing it?
- 32:39D. Reed,
- 32:40this is why belonging to an
- 32:41affiliate matters.
- 32:42I would include that for individual.
- 32:44The games has to be a
- 32:45showcase for the affiliate
- 32:46and the community.
- 32:52And then, I mean,
- 32:53I do have to jump off here
- 32:54because I do have a one o'clock meeting,
- 32:55but, um, but why,
- 33:00what happens if what Matt
- 33:03Sousa said is right this
- 33:05week and Berkshire decides
- 33:07to sell off the,
- 33:10the games portion of
- 33:12CrossFit to this new group
- 33:15out of Texas who may only
- 33:17want to buy the sports side
- 33:19and not the affiliates.
- 33:22If that happens and there's
- 33:25no connection with the community,
- 33:29we're in trouble.
- 33:34We're in trouble.
- 33:35And that can be a longer
- 33:36discussion tomorrow when I
- 33:39have Corey on or on Thursday.
- 33:41But it seems insane to me
- 33:46that that would happen.
- 33:49I don't know.
- 33:55Uh, Aaron Frazier agree.
- 33:57Look at the crew Haley
- 33:58brought to semis when she
- 33:59was at the affiliate in Virginia.
- 34:05Um,
- 34:06I would argue that Haley brings a big
- 34:07crowd wherever she goes in semis.
- 34:10And even if she's back at mayhem,
- 34:12that's still an affiliate and they,
- 34:14they ride deep there too.
- 34:17Um,
- 34:17Austin Hatfield brought a huge number
- 34:20to semis last year, Austin and Haley, uh,
- 34:25Their crowds were so big
- 34:28last year at the affiliate, for sure,
- 34:30at the semifinals.
- 34:34D. Reed says,
- 34:34the sport without the
- 34:35affiliates will die.
- 34:37That's my fear.
- 34:38That's my fear without the
- 34:39connection because...
- 34:43And that's where I think
- 34:44like the WFP might get the
- 34:45upper hand if this does happen,
- 34:47because they're
- 34:48establishing a tour that
- 34:51isn't necessarily community based.
- 34:54And maybe it will be easier
- 34:57for them to move forward
- 34:58than whatever they're doing
- 34:59on this other side.
- 35:01And again,
- 35:02I don't know what the plan is to
- 35:03do with it.
- 35:04Um,
- 35:07I've heard some rumblings on
- 35:08the wp stuff that they
- 35:09already have lined up that
- 35:11could help them sustain
- 35:12things and move things
- 35:13forward uh but none of that
- 35:16is confirmed so I don't
- 35:17want to really dive into
- 35:18that too much I I think
- 35:22that splitting the
- 35:23affiliates and the crossfit
- 35:24games is a huge mistake and
- 35:27I wasn't always a thinking
- 35:29on this side um but I do
- 35:32think so now for sure
- 35:35that it's got to get back
- 35:37somehow to a
- 35:38community-based event a
- 35:48t-bird the sport is
- 35:49different than it once was
- 35:51it's sport not affiliate
- 35:52crossfit it is but the
- 35:55affiliates are what filled
- 35:57the arenas back in the regional days
- 36:01And when we've moved to a
- 36:03different concept, we lost.
- 36:06We lost the crowds.
- 36:07And somehow we've got to get them back.
- 36:11And if that means that you
- 36:12have to find a way for
- 36:13people to come root on their friends,
- 36:16we've got to figure that out.
- 36:20Got to figure that out.
- 36:26But it all comes down to
- 36:28like having a plan.
- 36:29Um, and I'm,
- 36:30and I'm not sure that CrossFit
- 36:32has sat down and had a
- 36:33long-term plan in a while.
- 36:36That just, it has.
- 36:39And I talked about that
- 36:41Sunday night a little bit
- 36:43at the beginning.
- 36:44I just watching welcome to
- 36:46Rexham and watching how
- 36:49they sit down with their
- 36:51group and have a plan.
- 36:53I don't think that CrossFit
- 36:54has had those discussions.
- 37:03Denise, I feel if the sport gets spun off,
- 37:05then I don't see any reason
- 37:06for affiliates to do the open.
- 37:08You're probably right.
- 37:12The sport cannot sustain
- 37:13itself without the affiliates.
- 37:17I agree.
- 37:18Especially if it's just
- 37:19another private equity firm
- 37:20coming in and taking it over.
- 37:22Like they're not going to
- 37:23invest enough money into
- 37:24the sport to create something new.
- 37:28Because they're there to make money,
- 37:30not spend money.
- 37:43CrossFit doesn't get to
- 37:44decide who they sell to or
- 37:46at least full control.
- 37:48Selling for parts is very risky.
- 37:50It is.
- 37:51But that is the decision of
- 37:53Berkshire right now.
- 37:57So everybody's just waiting
- 37:59with bated breath to see
- 38:01who is going to win the
- 38:03bidding war for whatever is there.
- 38:09Aaron,
- 38:09they're just holding on because they
- 38:10don't have a real leader.
- 38:13Well,
- 38:14it's hard to tell who the leader is
- 38:16because you have this
- 38:16private equity firm that
- 38:17really does own them.
- 38:19And they're the ones who
- 38:20make the ground rules for
- 38:21what the CEO can do.
- 38:24So that really handcuffs the
- 38:25CEO in what they want to do
- 38:27on the day-to-day life.
- 38:29The CEO is just the
- 38:31public-facing figure that
- 38:33takes all the heat.
- 38:35But the rules come from the board.
- 38:39I mean, we can't forget that.
- 38:41And they say what can and
- 38:43cannot be done going forward.
- 38:58Not that WFP is for sale,
- 39:00but if you look at what's
- 39:01been said about TPG,
- 39:03why would someone buy
- 39:04CrossFit Sport versus WFP?
- 39:09I don't think they should.
- 39:11unless they see something in
- 39:13it that we don't.
- 39:18And from what I understand,
- 39:19TPG is buying up a lot of
- 39:21niche sports to put together.
- 39:25And the only the only like
- 39:26parallel to that that I can
- 39:27see is like the extreme
- 39:29sports category with what
- 39:33Red Bull TV has done to
- 39:34make a lineup of these
- 39:35niche sports in the extreme
- 39:39sports category that they
- 39:41can air on their Red Bull channel.
- 39:44throughout the day and then
- 39:46they create a conglomerate
- 39:47of stuff that together they
- 39:49kind of support each other
- 39:51and it seems to me that tbg
- 39:53is trying something in that
- 39:54vein um but I don't they
- 39:57were only created a few
- 39:58weeks ago so to understand
- 40:01what their plan and their
- 40:02process is and what they're
- 40:03trying to do we are way too
- 40:05early in the game to figure all that out
- 40:11Love, welcome to Wrexham, and I do too.
- 40:14I can't wait to dive into
- 40:15the rest of the season.
- 40:21Good point.
- 40:22Red Bull TV was talked about
