- 2:16SPEAKER_15: We live down here.
- 2:18SPEAKER_15: If good.
- 2:20SPEAKER_15: But there's no food or a toilet.
- 2:27SPEAKER_15: Cause you need a toilet to live.
- 2:32SPEAKER_15: Unless you're Amish, then you have an out house.
- 2:38SPEAKER_12: Stop my tickets.
- 2:39SPEAKER_12: I'm not exactly sure where we're going with it.
- 2:41SPEAKER_15: I'm not sure either.
- 2:41SPEAKER_15: I was just I was on a rail decided I was gonna go with I was on a toilet roll.
- 2:48SPEAKER_14: A toilet paper roll.
- 2:51SPEAKER_12: Let me uh let's see.
- 2:52SPEAKER_12: Let me change the voice on this so we're ready to go.
- 2:55SPEAKER_12: I think I'm probably just gonna keep piano, at least for now.
- 2:57SPEAKER_15: Yeah, piano's good.
- 2:59SPEAKER_12: There we go.
- 2:59SPEAKER_12: Perfect.
- 3:00SPEAKER_12: Okay, um, so this is episode 236.
- 3:03SPEAKER_12: It is.
- 3:04SPEAKER_12: Uh I got a lot of stuff to talk about.
- 3:06SPEAKER_12: Do you have a lot of stuff to talk about?
- 3:07SPEAKER_12: I do.
- 3:08SPEAKER_12: You do?
- 3:09SPEAKER_12: Not really.
- 3:10SPEAKER_12: I'll have one big thing.
- 3:11SPEAKER_12: But then you want to start?
- 3:12SPEAKER_12: You start.
- 3:13SPEAKER_12: Well, actually, no, let me start.
- 3:14SPEAKER_12: Let me tell you this story first.
- 3:15SPEAKER_15: Alright, go for it.
- 3:16SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 3:16SPEAKER_15: Well, we gotta do the we didn't do the dad joke from last week.
- 3:18SPEAKER_15: You're right.
- 3:19SPEAKER_15: We did the dad joke.
- 3:19SPEAKER_15: So we got we gotta do a dad joke for you know, brought to you by Prescal High School Chorus.
- 3:24SPEAKER_12: Right, okay.
- 3:25SPEAKER_12: So the the joke I told today was um so um my uh Prescale High School jazz choir went to a state competition on Saturday.
- 3:34SPEAKER_12: Correct.
- 3:34SPEAKER_12: So I told the rest of the chorus, I said, you know, when we were on uh our trip, I went to uh convenience store.
- 3:40SPEAKER_12: We stopped at a convenience store and I went to the to the bathroom and there was a line.
- 3:43SPEAKER_12: And in that line, there was just like a bunch of people just hitting each other in the face.
- 3:53SPEAKER_12: And then I just stopped and they're looking at me like what?
- 3:57SPEAKER_12: And I just paused for a second and I said, That's that's it, that's the punchline.
- 4:04SPEAKER_15: Jeez, I'm freaking crow.
- 4:06SPEAKER_12: Yeah, they had the same reaction.
- 4:07SPEAKER_15: I'm gonna go up to your roof and throw myself off of it.
- 4:10SPEAKER_15: Excuse me.
- 4:12SPEAKER_12: And the people on the jazz choir trip were like, wait, I I had to think for a second.
- 4:18SPEAKER_12: Did we really do that?
- 4:19SPEAKER_12: I don't think.
- 4:19SPEAKER_14: I'm leaving now.
- 4:22SPEAKER_12: Uh speaking of that.
- 4:23SPEAKER_12: Oh yeah, how'd they do?
- 4:25SPEAKER_12: Uh they did fantastic.
- 4:26SPEAKER_12: Oh yeah?
- 4:27SPEAKER_12: Um the this group pulled together.
- 4:29SPEAKER_12: Uh we only had a handful of rehearsals because uh every one of them is in something else.
- 4:35SPEAKER_12: Oh, of course.
- 4:35SPEAKER_12: You know, and so we only had a handful of rehearsals, only a few.
- 4:39SPEAKER_12: Actually, I I can count on on half of my hand, really.
- 4:44SPEAKER_15: Which half?
- 4:45SPEAKER_12: This half.
- 4:46SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 4:46SPEAKER_15: I thought you were gonna give me the finger.
- 4:48SPEAKER_12: Um that's one.
- 4:50SPEAKER_12: Um where we had a full uh jazz quiet rehearsal.
- 4:54SPEAKER_12: Oh, okay.
- 4:54SPEAKER_12: Okay, with with all members.
- 4:56SPEAKER_12: Anyway, we went down we went down there and um so we had gotten a silver at the districts, and I know they're a lot harder at the state level because it's people from all across the state.
- 5:07SPEAKER_12: And they got bronze.
- 5:09SPEAKER_12: Really?
- 5:09SPEAKER_12: Yeah, so they got they got a they got a score between 85 and 90.
- 5:12SPEAKER_12: I don't have the full details because they haven't sent me my packet yet.
- 5:15SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 5:15SPEAKER_12: But I I know we got bronze, and I know we have three soloists, and a one is the highest that you can get.
- 5:23SPEAKER_12: All three of them got a one.
- 5:25SPEAKER_15: Really?
- 5:25SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 5:25SPEAKER_15: Well, good for the that's awesome.
- 5:28SPEAKER_12: Yeah, I was very proud and very happy for him, especially uh all three of them were seniors.
- 5:33SPEAKER_12: Even better, man.
- 5:34SPEAKER_12: Even better.
- 5:34SPEAKER_12: Even better.
- 5:35SPEAKER_12: That's awesome.
- 5:35SPEAKER_12: Yep.
- 5:36SPEAKER_12: And it's funny because one of those seniors is um was on a trip and she met us at the jazz uh uh fest and then went back.
- 5:45SPEAKER_12: She was in Portland or Bangor, she was in Bangor.
- 5:47SPEAKER_12: And she's still in Bangor, she wasn't in school today, so she's still on this family trip that she's on.
- 5:51SPEAKER_15: Oh.
- 5:52SPEAKER_15: Anyway, um It's a weird time to take a family trip.
- 5:54SPEAKER_12: I know, right?
- 5:55SPEAKER_12: But I I said to one of the guys, I said, Do you have contact with her?
- 5:58SPEAKER_12: I said, I want you to tell her that she got a one as a soloist.
- 6:03SPEAKER_12: And so he did.
- 6:04SPEAKER_12: He texted her and she's like, if this is an April Fool's joke, it's not funny.
- 6:10SPEAKER_12: So congratulations to the Prescott High School Janet.
- 6:12SPEAKER_15: Nice, nicely done, dude.
- 6:13SPEAKER_15: They did a great job.
- 6:14SPEAKER_12: Nice.
- 6:14SPEAKER_12: Um, and then speaking of uh speaking of um April Fools, I really I'm sorry, but I really pissed off some first graders today.
- 6:24SPEAKER_12: It worked for most of the day because I I did it for a couple other classes, and they thought it was you know, they at first they didn't get it, and then they thought it was funny.
- 6:32SPEAKER_12: And then this last class of the day at uh my elementary school was a was a first grade class.
- 6:38SPEAKER_12: And this this sweet little girl, she's actually uh the daughter of a science teacher at the high school and a friend of mine.
- 6:47SPEAKER_12: And she's so sweet and she's really nice.
- 6:50SPEAKER_12: But surprisingly, she was the most ticked off.
- 6:53SPEAKER_12: Really?
- 6:54SPEAKER_12: Yes.
- 6:55SPEAKER_12: So what I did is at the beginning of class, and you've probably heard this before, I said uh and they were a very remote rambunctious class.
- 7:03SPEAKER_12: I said, listen, like if you guys listen and you behave, I might have a special treat for you at the end.
- 7:09SPEAKER_12: And they're like, Oh, okay, what I said, do you guys like brownies?
- 7:14SPEAKER_12: Oh yeah, we love brownies, okay, we love brownies, okay.
- 7:16SPEAKER_12: So the end of the class comes, and of course they didn't behave, but some of them did, and then when those those were were like, didn't where's our brownies do we get brownies?
- 7:25SPEAKER_12: Do we get brown?
- 7:25SPEAKER_12: Oh yeah, yeah, actually you do get brownies.
- 7:29SPEAKER_12: I took some construction paper and I cut out some E's.
- 7:32SPEAKER_12: Oh brown construction.
- 7:34SPEAKER_12: So here's a brownie, here's a brownie.
- 7:35SPEAKER_12: These are these aren't brownies.
- 7:37SPEAKER_12: Yeah, it is a brownie.
- 7:39SPEAKER_12: This is not a brownie.
- 7:40SPEAKER_12: It is April Fools, right?
- 7:44SPEAKER_12: And then it took him a while for to get it.
- 7:46SPEAKER_12: Sure.
- 7:46SPEAKER_12: Oh, it's an E and it's brown, brownie.
- 7:50SPEAKER_12: Yeah, it's funny.
- 7:52SPEAKER_12: She's whole separate.
- 8:01SPEAKER_12: And I'm trying, and I usually can make her smile and make her laugh.
- 8:03SPEAKER_12: Sure.
- 8:04SPEAKER_12: And I tried everything, and she's was not happy.
- 8:09SPEAKER_12: Not happy at all.
- 8:11SPEAKER_12: So it's quite funny.
- 8:12SPEAKER_15: Oh, that's awesome, though.
- 8:14SPEAKER_12: Any uh any tricks played on you today?
- 8:16SPEAKER_12: No.
- 8:16SPEAKER_12: No.
- 8:17SPEAKER_12: Do you play any tricks on anybody today?
- 8:18SPEAKER_15: No, no.
- 8:19unknown: Nah, my.
- 8:20SPEAKER_12: Just don't do April Fools.
- 8:22SPEAKER_15: I just don't care anymore.
- 8:23SPEAKER_15: I mean, the world just sucks.
- 8:24SPEAKER_15: So I'm just like, I don't know what to believe anymore.
- 8:27SPEAKER_15: So I mean, you know, every day's an April Fool's Day joke.
- 8:30SPEAKER_12: We have, you know.
- 8:31SPEAKER_12: We have ten years before the uh the world ends.
- 8:33SPEAKER_12: April Fools.
- 8:35SPEAKER_15: April Fool's.
- 8:36SPEAKER_15: Yeah, the world the end of the world is gonna come because of Pablo Escobar's cocaine hippos.
- 8:42SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 8:43SPEAKER_15: Have you heard about that?
- 8:44SPEAKER_12: No, I haven't.
- 8:44SPEAKER_15: Well, you know who Pablo Escobar is.
- 8:48SPEAKER_15: He was that big Colombian drug pin back in the 80s.
- 8:51SPEAKER_15: He was like shipping all the cocaine to the NSA.
- 8:53SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 8:53SPEAKER_15: Well, anyway, so he's making so much money that he doesn't know what to do with it.
- 8:57SPEAKER_12: He has like still?
- 8:59SPEAKER_15: Well, back then.
- 9:00SPEAKER_15: Back then, okay.
- 9:00SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 9:00SPEAKER_15: He was just making just billions of dollars.
- 9:03SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 9:03SPEAKER_15: And he was just he couldn't spend it enough.
- 9:05SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 9:05SPEAKER_15: So he was buying like houses and planes and yachts and stuff like this.
- 9:10SPEAKER_15: This is this is this is this is the truth.
- 9:11SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 9:12SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 9:13SPEAKER_15: Started buying exotic animals.
- 9:14SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 9:15SPEAKER_15: Because he he has money.
- 9:16SPEAKER_15: He because he can't store it because it gets destroyed by like ants and you know, mice and rats and stuff like that.
- 9:24SPEAKER_15: So he has to spend he the dude was spending like$2,000 a month just in rubber bands, just to ban all his money.
- 9:31SPEAKER_15: Wow.
- 9:31SPEAKER_15: His son tells a story that they were making, they wanted to make s'mores.
- 9:35SPEAKER_15: They didn't have any firewood, so he burnt two million dollars in cash to make s'mores.
- 9:40SPEAKER_15: That's how much money this dude has, right?
- 9:41SPEAKER_12: Two million dollars.
- 9:43SPEAKER_12: I think that's a slight exaggeration.
- 9:44SPEAKER_15: I I wouldn't doubt it.
- 9:45SPEAKER_12: Was this a podcast you're listening to or something?
- 9:47SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it was on YouTube.
- 9:48SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 9:48SPEAKER_15: It was just great.
- 9:49SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 9:49SPEAKER_15: So, so anyway, he gets hippos.
- 9:53SPEAKER_15: Okay?
- 9:55SPEAKER_15: Now, everybody thinks hippos are like, you know, big, stupid, dumb, cuddly animals.
- 10:01SPEAKER_15: Do you realize they're the most dangerous animal on the face of the planet?
- 10:05SPEAKER_12: I do know I do know that to a certain extent.
- 10:07SPEAKER_12: Yeah, I have heard that.
- 10:08SPEAKER_15: They are they are just solid, like 4,000 pounds of just solid muscle.
- 10:12SPEAKER_12: Yes.
- 10:13SPEAKER_15: And they got foot-long teeth.
- 10:14SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 10:14SPEAKER_15: You know, and they're just they could rip you apart.
- 10:17SPEAKER_15: They're just jerk-offs.
- 10:18SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 10:19SPEAKER_15: I mean, they're a-holes of the animal kingdom.
- 10:21SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 10:22SPEAKER_15: Right?
- 10:22SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 10:23SPEAKER_15: That, notwithstanding, apparently their poop is so toxic that it creates algae and it sucks all the oxygen out of the water and kills the fish, which kills the birds, which kills everything around it.
- 10:37SPEAKER_15: So now there's there's like hippos that they can't do anything with because somebody in America got wind that the Colombian army was trying to kill these hippos to control them.
- 10:48SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 10:49SPEAKER_15: And now these hippos have personhood in America, and now you can't kill them.
- 10:53SPEAKER_15: That's not true.
- 10:54SPEAKER_15: That is absolutely true.
- 10:56SPEAKER_15: Personhood?
- 10:57SPEAKER_15: Personhood.
- 10:58SPEAKER_15: Some judge in America said, oh, you can't kill those hippos because they're people.
- 11:04SPEAKER_15: Quote unquote.
- 11:06SPEAKER_15: They're protected now.
- 11:08SPEAKER_15: So now they're destroying the Colombian rainfall, which is connected to the Amazon, which is the biggest like climate control part of the world.
- 11:16SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 11:17SPEAKER_15: So the you know.
- 11:19SPEAKER_15: So Pablo Escobar and his cocaine hippos are gonna destroy the world.
- 11:24SPEAKER_15: It's a podcast.
- 11:25SPEAKER_15: Check it out.
- 11:26SPEAKER_12: Is that what's the name of it?
- 11:27SPEAKER_15: Uh The Fat Electrician.
- 11:29SPEAKER_15: Seriously?
- 11:30SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 11:30SPEAKER_12: The Fat Electrician.
- 11:31SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 11:32SPEAKER_12: Alright.
- 11:33SPEAKER_12: Um hold on a second.
- 11:37SPEAKER_12: I'm just wanting to get this ready.
- 11:38SPEAKER_12: I have a bunch of stuff to get to if you're uh if you're so inclined.
- 11:42SPEAKER_12: Or do you have something?
- 11:43SPEAKER_12: You have something else?
- 11:44SPEAKER_15: Well, today is Jeff Pocaro's birthday.
- 11:46SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 11:46SPEAKER_12: So we're that was one of the things I want to get to.
- 11:48SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 11:49SPEAKER_15: Well this this might take a while because I I actually prepared.
- 11:53SPEAKER_15: I actually I didn't have my book because made post-it notes.
- 11:56SPEAKER_12: Okay, so wait, this is the Jeff Pocaro thing?
- 11:58SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 11:59SPEAKER_12: Okay, I want to wait.
- 12:00SPEAKER_12: Alright.
- 12:00SPEAKER_12: Alright, I want to do two things first.
- 12:02SPEAKER_12: Alright.
- 12:02SPEAKER_12: And then we'll get to that.
- 12:03SPEAKER_12: Alright.
- 12:04SPEAKER_12: Alright.
- 12:05SPEAKER_15: You don't want to you didn't like my hippo joke.
- 12:08SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 12:09SPEAKER_15: It wasn't a joke, it was a true story.
- 12:10SPEAKER_15: It's actually a true story.
- 12:11SPEAKER_12: Yeah, it's like a yeah, it's like a true crime.
- 12:14SPEAKER_12: It's it's like now he's dead.
- 12:17SPEAKER_12: No, I have uh new music.
- 12:19SPEAKER_12: Oh.
- 12:20SPEAKER_12: From Bachman Turner Overdrive.
- 12:22SPEAKER_12: Really?
- 12:22SPEAKER_12: For the first time in 40 years.
- 12:24SPEAKER_12: Wow.
- 12:24SPEAKER_12: C.F.
- 12:25SPEAKER_12: Turner and Randy Bachman have gotten together and they've put out uh a song called Sixty Years Ago.
- 12:33SPEAKER_15: Is that when they started?
- 12:34SPEAKER_15: Uh um I don't know.
- 12:37SPEAKER_12: Oh, I don't know.
- 12:38SPEAKER_12: But I just want to hear it because uh I think I I think it's pretty cool.
- 12:43SPEAKER_12: So 60 Years Ago, this is new stuff from BTO, Bachman Turner Odra.
- 12:47SPEAKER_12: Let's see what it sounds like.
- 12:53SPEAKER_12: It does sound like BTO.
- 12:56SPEAKER_12: It sounds like taking care of business.
- 12:57SPEAKER_12: That's what makes me sad.
- 13:54SPEAKER_12: Okay, so that bothers me.
- 13:57SPEAKER_15: It's it's very underwhelming.
- 13:59SPEAKER_15: I was expecting something like ah, you know, like when we listen to the Doobie Brothers, the new Doobie Brothers stuff.
- 14:03SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 14:04SPEAKER_15: I was expecting something like wow.
- 14:05SPEAKER_12: Yeah, but the new Doobie Brothers stuff, I mean, it sounds like the Doobie Brothers without copying one of their old songs.
- 14:14SPEAKER_12: True.
- 14:14SPEAKER_12: I mean, it's it's they have a sound.
- 14:16SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 14:17SPEAKER_12: And BTL has a sound too, but it's it sounds like they're kind of recycled.
- 14:22SPEAKER_12: Yeah, they're they're banking on uh what has been right yeah and the quality the quality is terrible.
- 14:30SPEAKER_12: The quality of his voice and stuff is just not good.
- 14:32SPEAKER_12: And I love Randy Bachman.
- 14:34SPEAKER_12: Trust me.
- 14:34SPEAKER_12: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 14:35SPEAKER_12: Uh that was not uh Well, that was that was disappointing.
- 14:38SPEAKER_12: That was disappointing.
- 14:38SPEAKER_12: So yeah, it's a great start to the show.
- 14:40SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 14:40SPEAKER_15: Um Cocaine Hippos, a bad bug from Turner Overdrive.
- 14:47SPEAKER_12: All right, I do want to talk about this.
- 14:49SPEAKER_12: All right.
- 14:49SPEAKER_12: So Ultimate Classic Rock has um a a uh bracket for the best album of the 80s.
- 14:58SPEAKER_12: Oh now they're down to the final four.
- 15:00SPEAKER_12: Oh so I would just I just thought we would talk about um what we think of their final four.
- 15:06SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 15:07SPEAKER_12: Um I wonder if I can um hold on.
- 15:10SPEAKER_12: Let me look here.
- 15:10SPEAKER_12: Oh, there's the whole bracket.
- 15:11SPEAKER_12: There's the whole bracket.
- 15:12SPEAKER_12: Nice.
- 15:13SPEAKER_12: So noise.

- 16:54SPEAKER_12: What would you vote for between those two?
- 16:56SPEAKER_15: Good Lord.
- 16:57SPEAKER_15: That's like That's that's like voting between God and Jesus.
- 17:03SPEAKER_15: You know what I mean?
- 17:04SPEAKER_12: I know who I'm voting for, obviously.
- 17:06SPEAKER_15: Um, but you can't discount Well, I I I gotta go with Guns and Roses.
- 17:12SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 17:12SPEAKER_12: See, I can't.
- 17:14SPEAKER_15: You're gonna go with Van Halen, yeah.
- 17:15SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 17:15SPEAKER_12: So I guess we're not gonna vote.
- 17:17SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 17:17SPEAKER_12: Because I I I would have well, no.
- 17:20SPEAKER_12: I would have voted for Van Halen.
- 17:21SPEAKER_12: I'm I wonder if it'll show you the what the results are so far.
- 17:26SPEAKER_12: Maybe?
- 17:27SPEAKER_15: Well, vote.
- 17:28SPEAKER_12: See what happens.

- 17:30SPEAKER_12: Uh so let's see.
- 17:31SPEAKER_12: Vote?
- 17:33SPEAKER_14: Please enter.
- 17:34SPEAKER_14: No, it does.
- 17:35SPEAKER_14: Oh, it does, okay.
- 17:35SPEAKER_14: So looks like it's pretty easy.
- 17:37SPEAKER_14: But it is pretty even.
- 17:38SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 17:38SPEAKER_12: 50.17% for G and R, 49.83 for Van Halen.
- 17:43SPEAKER_15: Wow, that is really close.
- 17:45SPEAKER_12: That's very close.
- 17:46SPEAKER_12: Uh and the other two, uh ACDC's Back in Black against U2's the Joshua Tree.
- 17:53SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 17:55SPEAKER_12: Those are pretty good.
- 17:56SPEAKER_12: I mean, those are pretty good.
- 17:57SPEAKER_12: That's a pretty good uh Final Four.
- 18:02SPEAKER_15: I got it.
- 18:03SPEAKER_15: I think I'd have to go with ACDC.
- 18:04SPEAKER_12: Yeah, I think I will too.
- 18:06SPEAKER_12: Um we were for heard Brian Johnson for the first time.
- 18:12SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 18:12SPEAKER_12: Mutt Lang produced it.
- 18:13SPEAKER_12: Yeah, it's a great it's a great album.
- 18:15SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 18:15SPEAKER_15: Nothing wrong with Joshua True.
- 18:16SPEAKER_15: Josh Rutcher's great album.
- 18:18SPEAKER_12: Well, and that one's not uh quite as close.
- 18:19SPEAKER_15: I was about to say, is that A C D C in the league?
- 18:21SPEAKER_15: Yep, yeah, yeah.
- 18:22SPEAKER_15: Back in Black has That's a butt weapon, right?
- 18:25SPEAKER_12: 70, almost 75% U2 has about 25%.
- 18:28SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 18:29SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 18:30SPEAKER_15: So but the Van Halen G and R one, that's that's a good one.
- 18:33SPEAKER_15: That's a good one.
- 18:34SPEAKER_12: That's gonna be very close.
- 18:35SPEAKER_12: Yep, I think so too.
- 18:36SPEAKER_12: And I'm sorry to say, I think G and R is gonna get it.
- 18:40SPEAKER_15: I don't know.
- 18:41SPEAKER_15: Well funny things, funnier things have happened.
- 18:44SPEAKER_12: This is true.
- 18:44SPEAKER_12: So this is true.
- 18:46SPEAKER_12: Uh okay.
- 18:47SPEAKER_15: So that's interesting.
- 18:48SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 18:50SPEAKER_12: So Jeff Bokara would have been born in 54.
- 18:56SPEAKER_12: So what's the math?
- 18:58SPEAKER_15: Don't ask me.
- 18:59SPEAKER_15: I'm a drummer.
- 19:01SPEAKER_12: Hold on.
- 19:02SPEAKER_12: So if he was born in 54, I have my handy-dandy calculator here.
- 19:07SPEAKER_12: 2025 minus 1954.
- 19:10SPEAKER_12: He would have been 71 today.
- 19:12SPEAKER_12: Okay, yeah, that sounds about right.
- 19:13SPEAKER_12: Yeah, he would have been 71.
- 19:15SPEAKER_12: If you don't know who we're talking about, I don't know what you're listening to this podcast for.
- 19:18SPEAKER_12: Um go away.
- 19:20SPEAKER_12: Jeff Pocaro, uh one of the one of the greatest drummers.
- 19:27SPEAKER_12: Period.
- 19:29SPEAKER_12: Yeah, hands down in the history of drumming.
- 19:32SPEAKER_12: Drumming.
- 19:32SPEAKER_12: Rock and roll, pop, I mean any drumming.
- 19:35SPEAKER_12: He's played on everything.
- 19:36SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 19:36SPEAKER_15: Well, I mean, you can you can be you can not be a fan of Toto, right?
- 19:41SPEAKER_15: Sure.
- 19:42SPEAKER_15: But I guarantee you, if you have an album that was made between the mid-70s and 1992 when he died, I guarantee you you have an album with Jeff Paccaro.
- 19:52SPEAKER_12: Absolutely, no question.
- 19:53SPEAKER_15: Because I think somebody said it's estimated that he's on he's he's sold the albums he's on are like half a billion albums.
- 20:03SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 20:04SPEAKER_12: Uh just this arateyourmusic.com uh has him involved in uh three hundred and sixty-two uh albums.
- 20:15SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 20:16SPEAKER_12: And that's not that's not, I mean, he may have played drums on one song, he may have uh had a songwriting credit.
- 20:22SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 20:22SPEAKER_12: But he's in he's been involved in three hundred and sixty two.
- 20:24SPEAKER_12: Exactly.
- 20:25SPEAKER_15: I mean the dude is just like, yeah.
- 20:27SPEAKER_12: And I think I know I don't think that's all of it.
- 20:29SPEAKER_12: No, it can't be.
- 20:30SPEAKER_15: It really can't be.
- 20:31SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 20:32SPEAKER_12: So um yeah.
- 20:35SPEAKER_12: So what do you have to say?
- 20:36SPEAKER_15: So I just made some I just made some notes of like some different songs.
- 20:40SPEAKER_12: Yes, because I have a list as well.
- 20:41SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 20:42SPEAKER_15: Uh I started from like the beginning.
- 20:45unknown: Okay.
- 20:45SPEAKER_15: Like, because he played with Sonny and Cher.
- 20:47SPEAKER_15: A lot of people he was like 16, 15, 15, 16 years old.
- 20:51SPEAKER_12: And that's the thing.
- 20:51SPEAKER_12: So so he was still in high school when he was uh A playing in the song and Cher, is it?
- 20:58SPEAKER_12: I don't know.
- 20:59SPEAKER_12: I don't know.
- 20:59SPEAKER_12: Um because it's Albert Hammond.
- 21:03SPEAKER_12: Let me see if Sonny and Cher did it.
- 21:05SPEAKER_12: Oh, maybe they did.
- 21:06SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I think they did a version of it.
- 21:08SPEAKER_12: And obviously he must have played on it.
- 21:09SPEAKER_12: He played the drums on it, so.
- 21:11SPEAKER_12: Uh here we go.
- 21:13SPEAKER_12: Let's see.
- 21:28SPEAKER_12: This is so 70s.
- 21:29SPEAKER_10: It is totally I've got on board a Westbound 74.
- 21:38SPEAKER_15: So he's 16 on the he's like 15, 16 years old on this.
- 21:44SPEAKER_15: Too bad the drums aren't louder.
- 21:45SPEAKER_15: I know, right?
- 21:51SPEAKER_12: This is an Albert Hammond song.
- 21:53SPEAKER_12: He had to hit with it.
- 21:54SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 21:54SPEAKER_12: I know Barry Manilow covered it too.
- 22:00SPEAKER_10: Seems it never rains in Southern California.
- 22:05SPEAKER_12: I had no idea Sonny and Chair did this song.
- 22:08SPEAKER_12: Alright, what's next?
- 22:09SPEAKER_12: What do you got?
- 22:10SPEAKER_15: Well, of course, you know, he did I Keep Forgetting with Michael McDonald.
- 22:14SPEAKER_15: Of course.
- 22:15SPEAKER_15: You know, that's that's like the one of the most amazing songs ever.
- 22:18SPEAKER_12: Much research you did because I did a I did a little bit of research as well.
- 22:23SPEAKER_15: Um Well, this is this is it, this is interesting because can you hear the hi-hat?
- 22:30SPEAKER_15: 16 notes, right?
- 22:31SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 22:32SPEAKER_15: Jeff Piccaro hated doing 16 notes with two hands because he thought it sounded flat to him.
- 22:40SPEAKER_15: So he's doing that one-handed.
- 22:44SPEAKER_12: I'm not surprised.
- 22:46SPEAKER_15: Right?
- 22:46SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 22:48SPEAKER_15: So anytime you hear Jeff Picaro doing 16 notes on a hi-hat, know he's doing it one-handed.
- 22:54SPEAKER_15: And that's just freaking sick.
- 22:57SPEAKER_15: If you're not a drummer, you don't you you can't appreciate how Michael McDonald right now.
- 23:02SPEAKER_12: Well, everybody.
- 23:08SPEAKER_12: Alright, what else you got?
- 23:09SPEAKER_15: Well, of course, he was he he did some session work with Boz Skaggs.
- 23:12SPEAKER_15: Oh yeah.
- 23:13SPEAKER_15: Like Lido Shuffle and uh Lowdown.
- 23:15SPEAKER_15: That's both Jeff Percaro songs.
- 23:17SPEAKER_12: Lowdown is uh I think Lowdown is the one that I wanted uh the syndicate to do.
- 23:24SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 23:25SPEAKER_12: Is it?
- 23:26SPEAKER_12: No, it's not.
- 23:29SPEAKER_12: I think it was Lido, actually.
- 23:42SPEAKER_12: Okay, hold on.
- 23:43SPEAKER_12: It was Leto.
- 23:44SPEAKER_12: This is the one I think the syndicate should do.
- 23:53SPEAKER_03: Leto missed the boat that day he left the shack.
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: But that was all he missed.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: And he coming back.
- 24:07SPEAKER_12: Yeah, the horns.
- 24:09SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 24:11SPEAKER_12: I think we should do this sometime.
- 24:12SPEAKER_15: Oh, totally, man.
- 24:16SPEAKER_15: Although I I prefer the low down, but that's just me.
- 24:19SPEAKER_12: This has horns.
- 24:20SPEAKER_15: I know, that's what I'm saying.
- 24:21SPEAKER_15: I prefer low down.
- 24:22SPEAKER_15: But for the syndicate, this would be good.
- 24:25SPEAKER_12: Yep.
- 24:25SPEAKER_12: All right, what else you got?
- 24:26SPEAKER_15: Uh well, of course, you know he did stuff with Steely Dan.
- 24:30SPEAKER_12: Oh yeah, he was on like like FM.
- 24:33SPEAKER_15: Yeah, he did he was on like uh he was on a bunch of uh Steely Dan.
- 24:36SPEAKER_15: I just I just picked like one or two uh different like uh songs, worry the bottle, Mama.
- 25:11SPEAKER_06: It's great fruit and wine.
- 25:17SPEAKER_10: Keep off the high heels figures, it's potty time.
- 25:21SPEAKER_12: He's in his what twenties here?
- 25:23SPEAKER_12: The girl twenties.
- 25:25SPEAKER_15: Probably yeah what's up and for I don't know how he I don't even know if he was with Toto.
- 25:32SPEAKER_15: I don't even know if they'd formed Toto at this point.
- 25:34SPEAKER_12: I think I don't think so.
- 25:35SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 25:35SPEAKER_12: Um nothing but I'm trying to do pre-Toto and then like if you think about the caliber same air as to as Steely Dan.
- 25:49SPEAKER_12: Yeah, I know.
- 25:50SPEAKER_12: Uh because those albums back in the 70s were for a musician.
- 25:55SPEAKER_12: Uh just they were it.
- 25:58SPEAKER_12: It.
- 25:58SPEAKER_12: That was it.
- 25:59SPEAKER_15: That was that's what you were listening to.
- 26:01SPEAKER_15: That's what you were emul emulating.
- 26:02SPEAKER_15: No question.
- 26:03SPEAKER_15: Crazy, dude.
- 26:04SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 26:05SPEAKER_15: Another good one from Steely Dan is gauge.
- 26:08SPEAKER_15: That's uh that he's on.
- 26:43SPEAKER_15: That's him playing along.
- 26:53SPEAKER_12: That was me.
- 26:56SPEAKER_09: Just when I say, boy, we can't miss you are gone.
- 27:01SPEAKER_12: We had this conversation on the last episode.
- 27:05SPEAKER_12: There were so many chords and just so much so many layers and just so much musicality back then.
- 27:11SPEAKER_12: I know.
- 27:12SPEAKER_12: Yeah, and they don't have it anymore.
- 27:13SPEAKER_12: They don't do that anymore.
- 27:14SPEAKER_12: Well, I shouldn't say they don't do it, because we just don't hear it.
- 27:16SPEAKER_15: No, you're not gonna hear it.
- 27:17SPEAKER_12: You're not gonna hear it.
- 27:18SPEAKER_15: Not in the day of Spotify.
- 27:19SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 27:20SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 27:21SPEAKER_15: But uh did you know he was it on an Algerot song?
- 27:24SPEAKER_15: Uh morning.
- 27:26SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I didn't know that either.
- 27:30SPEAKER_12: I got a list of stuff that he was on.
- 27:32SPEAKER_12: Uh but I didn't know about that one.
- 27:39SPEAKER_15: Morning.
- 27:42SPEAKER_12: That sounds about right.
- 27:44SPEAKER_15: Doesn't it?
- 27:44SPEAKER_15: Doesn't that sound like a Picaro beat?
- 27:47SPEAKER_15: You know what I mean?
- 27:48SPEAKER_12: That's a terrible video.
- 27:49SPEAKER_15: That's a terrible video.
- 27:51SPEAKER_15: Like a thing that this looks like the begin.
- 27:54SPEAKER_15: This this has gotta be 80s, man.
- 27:56SPEAKER_12: You know what?
- 27:58SPEAKER_12: Why do I think that Steve Lukather is probably playing guitar?
- 28:02SPEAKER_15: I guarantee he probably is.
- 28:03SPEAKER_15: I bet I bet Steve Picaro's playing bass.
- 28:06SPEAKER_15: This is probably Toto.
- 28:07SPEAKER_15: I almost guarantee it probably would be.
- 28:10SPEAKER_15: It does look like Fan Albert.
- 28:11SPEAKER_15: Look at that! This is this is a great song, but the video is terrible, but it's so terrible, it's great.
- 28:28SPEAKER_15: Oh jeez.
- 28:29SPEAKER_15: Oh wow! Okay.
- 28:31SPEAKER_12: We're just getting lost.
- 28:32SPEAKER_15: We can of course, you know.
- 28:34SPEAKER_15: But I mean, as far as beats are concerned, Mushonga, dude, that is such a sick groove.
- 28:41unknown: Yeah.
- 28:41SPEAKER_12: You know what I mean?
- 28:42SPEAKER_12: Is that on um oh it is.
- 28:45SPEAKER_12: It's on the seventh one.
- 28:48SPEAKER_12: I have a live version.
- 28:50SPEAKER_12: Is that right?
- 28:51SPEAKER_15: I wouldn't be surprised.
- 28:57SPEAKER_12: That's the intro.
- 28:58SPEAKER_12: Drum set mag.
- 28:59SPEAKER_12: Drum set mag.
- 29:00SPEAKER_12: Drum set mag.
- 29:00SPEAKER_15: I was wondering what you're saying.
- 29:01SPEAKER_15: I could hear drumset, but I couldn't hear what you're saying.
- 29:04SPEAKER_12: Alright.
- 29:04SPEAKER_12: September 2013, Mushanga, Jeff Procaro.
- 29:07SPEAKER_12: Starlight.
- 29:09SPEAKER_13: Oh, this is him just talking about it.
- 29:10SPEAKER_13: Especially the ladder with the samba feel.
- 29:12SPEAKER_12: I'd like to should I play just the regular song?
- 29:18SPEAKER_15: Yeah, you can- I I think you gotta hear the song to really appreciate it.
- 29:22SPEAKER_12: Let's play the song.
- 29:27SPEAKER_12: This is a great album, dude.
- 29:30SPEAKER_15: Yeah, what's in that beat, dude?
- 29:33SPEAKER_15: What's that groove?
- 29:46SPEAKER_04: I can't believe my little shower.
- 29:50SPEAKER_04: I keep a face in my heart for me.
- 29:53SPEAKER_12: I got one on this same album that I wanted to highlight.
- 29:57SPEAKER_12: Just right now?
- 29:58SPEAKER_15: Might as well write on the album.
- 30:00SPEAKER_12: So let me get let me pull it up.
- 30:17SPEAKER_12: I just love um well, I love all Toto songs.
- 30:22SPEAKER_12: But the one right before Masonga on the album.
- 30:28SPEAKER_12: Do you know the song?
- 30:29SPEAKER_15: Oh, uh, that's uh uh uh K I uh I have it written down.
- 30:35SPEAKER_15: Is it on your list?
- 30:37SPEAKER_15: Stop loving you.
- 30:38SPEAKER_15: It is, yeah.
- 30:39SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it was it was on my list.
- 30:41SPEAKER_15: This is such a awesome song, just pure pop magic right now.
- 30:44SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 32:08SPEAKER_12: That is beautiful.
- 32:09SPEAKER_12: 1988, that one.
- 32:10SPEAKER_15: Yeah, that's an awesome song.
- 32:11SPEAKER_15: What else you got?
- 32:12SPEAKER_15: Uh okay.
- 32:13SPEAKER_15: Did you know on Africa, his dad, Joe Picaro, is playing the bass marimba?
- 32:19SPEAKER_12: I didn't even know Joe Picaro played drums.
- 32:20SPEAKER_15: Yeah, he's a he's a apparently he has a great drummer.
- 32:27SPEAKER_12: The bass marimba.
- 32:28SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 32:30SPEAKER_15: I don't know what a regular marimba.
- 32:35SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I don't know, man.
- 32:36SPEAKER_12: Whatever.
- 32:38SPEAKER_15: I did not know that.
- 32:40SPEAKER_12: Alright, what do you have anything else?
- 32:42SPEAKER_12: Oh, I hear the drums that goes.
- 32:45SPEAKER_12: As far as uh I got a couple of that might surprise you.
- 32:49SPEAKER_15: Pamela.
- 32:50SPEAKER_15: You know, Jake to the bone is such a great one.
- 32:52SPEAKER_15: Don't chain my heart.
- 32:53SPEAKER_12: Any other ones that aren't Toto?
- 32:55SPEAKER_15: Oh yeah, I got some.
- 32:57SPEAKER_15: Did you know he played on uh The Wall?
- 32:59SPEAKER_15: Pink Floyd's the Wall.
- 33:00SPEAKER_12: That's what he played Mother.
- 33:01SPEAKER_12: That's the one I was gonna I was going to uh Yeah, apparently he played Mother, the song Mother.
- 33:06SPEAKER_12: And do you know why?
- 33:07SPEAKER_15: I can't remember.
- 33:08SPEAKER_15: I don't I don't remember the story behind it.
- 33:10SPEAKER_15: Well, I have it right here.
- 33:12SPEAKER_15: Oh, you do you?
- 33:12SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 33:12SPEAKER_12: So Nick Mason, obviously, was Pink Floyd's drummer.
- 33:15SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 33:15SPEAKER_12: Mason was having difficulty mastering the track's difficult time signatures.
- 33:20SPEAKER_12: And since Pink Floyd was on a tight recording schedule, they hired Jeff Porter to do the job.
- 33:29SPEAKER_17: Do you think they'll drop the ball?
- 33:31SPEAKER_12: And in it is a weird time.
- 33:33SPEAKER_15: It is weird, well, yeah.
- 33:34SPEAKER_15: But it it's a the whole album.
- 33:36SPEAKER_15: It's the wall.
- 33:37SPEAKER_15: It's a weird album.
- 33:38SPEAKER_12: Let me forward here because there's no drums in that one.
- 33:45SPEAKER_12: Here we go.
- 33:57SPEAKER_12: So far, not so difficult.
- 34:22SPEAKER_12: This doesn't sound very difficult.
- 34:24SPEAKER_12: Oh, here we go.
- 34:25SPEAKER_12: That's what it is.
- 34:26SPEAKER_15: There it is, yeah.
- 34:26SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 34:27SPEAKER_15: Now it's starting to get weird.
- 34:39SPEAKER_07: Do you think she's dangerous?
- 34:41SPEAKER_15: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:43SPEAKER_12: Yeah, yeah, that's strange.
- 34:45SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 34:45SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 34:45SPEAKER_12: Alright, do you know what else?
- 34:47SPEAKER_15: Uh well, of course he's all over get on a song called Empty Assembly.
- 34:51SPEAKER_12: I did not know that.
- 34:52SPEAKER_15: I did not know, yeah, I didn't know that either.
- 34:54SPEAKER_12: Uh great song.
- 34:56SPEAKER_12: Great song.
- 34:57SPEAKER_12: Hey, hey, Johnny, Empty.
- 34:58SPEAKER_15: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:59SPEAKER_16: What happened here?
- 35:01SPEAKER_16: As the New York Sunset is to be I found an empty garden among the flagstones there.
- 35:16SPEAKER_16: Who lived here?
- 35:19SPEAKER_16: He must have been a gardener that cared a lot.
- 35:24SPEAKER_16: Who weeded out the tears and grew a good eye.
- 35:28SPEAKER_16: Sorry.
- 35:29SPEAKER_16: And we are so amazed with crippled at Yeah, that's a great song, yeah, in and of itself.
- 35:36SPEAKER_15: Uh I didn't know he played on Dirty Laundry.
- 35:38SPEAKER_15: Don Henley.
- 35:39SPEAKER_12: Yes, I have that as well.
- 35:41SPEAKER_12: Which is right here.
- 35:44SPEAKER_12: Oh, sorry.
- 35:49SPEAKER_12: I don't know that.
- 35:50SPEAKER_12: That's a live version.
- 35:51SPEAKER_12: Probably not him.
- 35:52SPEAKER_12: Probably not him.
- 35:53SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 35:54SPEAKER_15: He he played on Stay of the Night in Chicago.
- 35:57SPEAKER_15: That's him.
- 35:57SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 35:58SPEAKER_12: I didn't know that.
- 35:59SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 36:01SPEAKER_15: How crazy is that, man?
- 36:03SPEAKER_12: Uh let's see.
- 36:04SPEAKER_12: I already got Mother.
- 36:05SPEAKER_12: And there's some Steely Dan and Lowdown.
- 36:07SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 36:08SPEAKER_12: But did you know that he was on this one?
- 36:12SPEAKER_14: Which is a Is that him on the phone?
- 36:16SPEAKER_14: Hi, this is Jeff.
- 36:17SPEAKER_14: I'm gonna play drums for you.
- 36:19SPEAKER_14: This is a um Dire Straight.
- 36:23SPEAKER_15: Oh, I didn't know this, yeah.
- 36:24SPEAKER_15: Calling Elvis.
- 36:25SPEAKER_15: Really?
- 36:26SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 36:26SPEAKER_15: No, I didn't know this.
- 36:27SPEAKER_15: Listen to that.
- 36:28SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 36:29SPEAKER_15: Well, you know, that's all one-handed.
- 36:31SPEAKER_15: Of course it is.
- 36:59SPEAKER_12: I'm reading the story that goes with this.
- 37:02SPEAKER_12: So uh Calling Elvis is trundling faster and faster still with Jeff Rocaro as its piston firing engine.
- 37:11SPEAKER_12: The song continues ebbing and then flowing in this way, but he never misses a gear thanks to his often understated rhythm keeper.
- 37:17SPEAKER_12: Um, let's see.
- 37:21SPEAKER_12: Perhaps that low-key presence accounts for why it's Marionette style puppet from the accompanying video, modeled after Jerry Anderson's Thunderbirds, looks like it's looks like Jeff Picaro.
- 37:31SPEAKER_12: Turns out, however, that Jeff Piccaro was only making it seem easy.
- 37:35SPEAKER_12: Chris Witten took over drums for the Dire Streets tour in support of On Every Street, which is the album that this is on, and said he was so worn out by the end of that, he briefly retired.
- 37:51SPEAKER_12: I can't even imagine.
- 37:52SPEAKER_12: Um, did you know?
- 37:54SPEAKER_12: Obviously, he uh did some stuff with Donald Fagan of Steely Dam, but this is one of Donald Fagan's most famous songs.
- 38:00SPEAKER_12: IGY, what it'd be like.
- 38:02SPEAKER_15: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:18SPEAKER_12: I think anything with uh Steely Dan did you know that he was on the Pretender from Jackson Brown?
- 38:24SPEAKER_12: Did not know that.
- 38:25SPEAKER_11: Did not either and here's I mean everybody knows this for the ice cream vendor out into the cool of the evening strolls the pretender.
- 38:48SPEAKER_12: Such great stuff.
- 38:50SPEAKER_12: But the his last one of his last session Well Bruce Springsteen, Human Touch.
- 38:54SPEAKER_12: Yep, yeah, and it was not a very popular Springsteen album, but this is you and me, we were the pretenders, we let it all slip away.
- 39:08SPEAKER_12: I do like this song.
- 39:09SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it's not a bad song.
- 39:10SPEAKER_09: In the end, what you don't surrender, where the world just strips away.
- 39:18SPEAKER_09: Girl, ain't no kindness in the face of strangers.
- 39:22SPEAKER_09: We gonna find no miracles here where you can wait on your blessings, dog.
- 39:30SPEAKER_12: So if we just look at some of these credits.
- 39:34SPEAKER_12: So he was on uh Seals and Crofts Diamond Girl album.
- 39:38SPEAKER_14: Diamond Girl.
- 39:39SPEAKER_12: And he had to be really young there.
- 39:41SPEAKER_12: Oh, yeah.
- 39:41SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 39:42SPEAKER_12: Uh I'm trying to think of some Steely Dan's pretzel logic, obviously.
- 39:46SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 39:46SPEAKER_12: He was on Bonnie Raitt's home plate album.
- 39:49SPEAKER_12: Uh more Steely Danny was on Katie Lyde, uh Seals and Crofts, England Dan, and John Ford Coley.
- 39:55SPEAKER_12: Um Helen Reddy, Melanie, John Sebastian, Hoyt Axton, Bozgags, Cher, Robert Palmer, uh, like I said, Jackson Brown, um Mickey Thomas from Starship in 1977.
- 40:11SPEAKER_12: He played on his uh um solo album.
- 40:14SPEAKER_12: Um I'm trying to think of the ones that the ones that we might know because some of them Olivia Newton John, Burton Cummings from uh The Guess Who, um, Paul Anka.
- 40:24SPEAKER_12: I mean the Barbara Streisand, Darryl Hall and John Oates, Leo Sayer, Andrew Gold, um just the list goes on.
- 40:32SPEAKER_15: I think he played on uh Peter Frampton.
- 40:35SPEAKER_12: Uh or played with Peter Frampton.
- 40:38SPEAKER_12: I'm sure, I'm sure he did Warren Zevon's excitable boy.
- 40:42SPEAKER_12: Um let's see.
- 40:46SPEAKER_12: Oh, he played on the Sgt.
- 40:47SPEAKER_12: Pepper Lonely Hearts Club band Motion Picture Soundtrack.
- 40:50SPEAKER_15: Yeah, he did stuff with the Bee Gees, too.
- 40:52SPEAKER_12: We won't hold that against him.
- 40:53SPEAKER_12: No.
- 40:53SPEAKER_12: Uh Leo Sayer, Al Stewart, Eric Carmen.
- 40:57SPEAKER_12: Um and this is all before he was even even had Toto going.
- 41:01SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 41:02SPEAKER_12: Um I'm just gonna go ahead to like the 80s here, because we're in 1980 now.
- 41:07SPEAKER_12: Um some that you may know from the 80s.
- 41:14SPEAKER_12: Uh not that it matters, because he made money.
- 41:18SPEAKER_12: I mean he made a living.
- 41:19SPEAKER_12: He was on uh Frampton's breaking all the rules on it.
- 41:21SPEAKER_12: Yeah, there it is, yeah.
- 41:22SPEAKER_12: Aretha Franklin, uh the beat, like you said, the BGs, four tops, Billy Preston, Melissa Manchester, Joe Jackson, um, Randy Crawford, Leo Sayer.
- 41:34SPEAKER_12: I mean the list goes on.
- 41:35SPEAKER_12: I and look, I'm I'm just He was on a Madonna.
- 41:37SPEAKER_15: Uh he played with Madonna.
- 41:39SPEAKER_15: That song Cherish.
- 41:41SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 41:42SPEAKER_15: That's him.
- 41:43SPEAKER_15: He played with Clapton, dude.
- 41:45SPEAKER_12: He did play with Clapton.
- 41:46SPEAKER_15: He's he's a he's uh Foreverman.
- 41:48SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 41:49SPEAKER_15: He's the drummer on that.
- 41:50SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 41:50SPEAKER_12: So uh he played for the Jacksons, uh their victory album in 1984.
- 41:57SPEAKER_12: Yep.
- 41:57SPEAKER_12: Uh he was on yeah, he was on Clapton's Behind the Sun album.
- 42:01SPEAKER_12: Just um so was Phil Collins.
- 42:03SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 42:03SPEAKER_12: I think Phil Collins produced that album, I think.
- 42:05SPEAKER_12: So the fact that he brought Pocaro in to play drums.
- 42:09SPEAKER_12: That's funny.
- 42:09SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 42:10SPEAKER_12: Um yeah, you can see the list here.
- 42:13SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it just goes on and on and on and on and on and on, yeah.
- 42:17SPEAKER_15: Like I said, half a billion albums.
- 42:19SPEAKER_12: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:20SPEAKER_12: It's yeah, it's ridiculous.
- 42:23SPEAKER_15: Um the man's legendary.
- 42:26SPEAKER_12: Absolutely.
- 42:26SPEAKER_12: Legendary.
- 42:27SPEAKER_12: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:28SPEAKER_15: And and the sad part is that unless you're a big Toto fan, you really don't know who he is.
- 42:33SPEAKER_15: That's true.
- 42:34SPEAKER_15: You know what I mean?
- 42:35SPEAKER_12: Yeah, unfortunately.
- 42:36SPEAKER_12: Yeah, that's true.
- 42:37SPEAKER_12: Um, so rest in peace to the great Jeff Porcaro.
- 42:43SPEAKER_12: Um would have been 71 today.
- 42:45SPEAKER_14: Yes.
- 42:46SPEAKER_14: Oh! It's next time!
- 42:52SPEAKER_12: That was quite a quite a segue, sorry.
- 42:54SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it was like Rest in peace, Jeff Porcaro! Next time.
- 42:59SPEAKER_12: I um probably should have been a little put a little time because I'm gonna do that.
- 43:02SPEAKER_15: Well, you know, we could have been like a little segue here, you know, but whatever.
- 43:06SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 43:06SPEAKER_15: It all works.
- 43:07SPEAKER_15: It all good.
- 43:08SPEAKER_12: Question.
- 43:09SPEAKER_12: The question was I forgot.
- 43:12SPEAKER_15: I forgot.
- 43:13SPEAKER_15: This was the uh the the warm-up song for basketball team.
- 43:17SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 43:18SPEAKER_15: Alright, so this is what our lovely and talented judge said.
- 43:21SPEAKER_15: I know she's talented.
- 43:23SPEAKER_15: Because I know her.
- 43:24SPEAKER_15: Oh, that's right.
- 43:24SPEAKER_15: You don't.
- 43:26SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 43:27SPEAKER_15: Uh this week was great.
- 43:29SPEAKER_15: I loved all the picks.
- 43:30SPEAKER_15: But I laughed so hard at Frank Sinatra High Hopes.
- 43:33SPEAKER_15: I could not pick that one.
- 43:35SPEAKER_15: I couldn't not pick that one.
- 43:37SPEAKER_15: It was perfect.
- 43:38SPEAKER_12: I knew it.
- 43:39SPEAKER_15: And could you imagine what the other team would think that it that think if that started playing?
- 43:44SPEAKER_15: Talk about employing some weird psychological warfare.
- 43:48SPEAKER_15: The underdogs playing pop jazz during warm-ups might give the other team inflated confidence.
- 43:53SPEAKER_12: I told you.
- 43:54SPEAKER_12: Well, as soon as you pick the other one.
- 43:56SPEAKER_15: And I said, Well, I do try to keep you on my on your toes with my picks and shit.
- 44:00SPEAKER_15: She says, yes.
- 44:01SPEAKER_15: That you do, and you do it well.
- 44:05SPEAKER_12: Alright.
- 44:05SPEAKER_15: So this week's question was that was the sorority party.
- 44:16SPEAKER_12: Sorority party, yeah.
- 44:17SPEAKER_12: Everyone's getting ready at the same time in the same bathroom.
- 44:19SPEAKER_12: What song plays on the ghetto blaster in the background?
- 44:22SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 44:23SPEAKER_15: So this is what Cousin Larry said.
- 44:25SPEAKER_15: So, first thing, mixtape! Well, the first thing I thought of was an 80s movie montage with girls just want to have fun by Cindy Lauper playing in the background.
- 44:36SPEAKER_15: Then I thought about bathroom songs like She Came In Through the Bathroom Window by the Beatles, Splish Splash by Bobby Darren, and the shower song.
- 44:44SPEAKER_15: Then I thought about songs about makeup like Mike's in the makeup by No Doubt.
- 44:51SPEAKER_15: Finally, I started thinking about how crowded it would be and landed on the schoolhouse rock song Elbow Room.
- 44:59SPEAKER_15: I'll go with that with honorable mention to Seether's Get Out of My Way.
- 45:05SPEAKER_14: I love that.
- 45:10SPEAKER_00: One thing you will discover when you get next to one another is everybody needs some elbow room, elbow room.
- 45:22SPEAKER_00: It's nice when you're kind of cozy, but not when you're tangled nose to nosy.
- 45:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, everybody needs some elbow, needs a little elbow room.
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: That's how certainly an original early days of the USA.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: The people kept coming to settle, though the east was the only place it was.
- 45:43SPEAKER_12: Is there a different version of this?
- 45:45SPEAKER_12: Oh wait, maybe this is it.
- 45:46SPEAKER_12: Is this the same version?
- 45:49SPEAKER_06: Everybody goes big.
- 45:52SPEAKER_12: So that was so I just went to YouTube.
- 45:55SPEAKER_12: So that was I I want to make sure that I get this right so that we get the right version of this.
- 46:01SPEAKER_12: So that was elbow room.
- 46:03SPEAKER_12: I I typed in schoolhouse rock elbow room, and the first thing that came up was uh uh elbow room manifest destiny.
- 46:11SPEAKER_12: So I can I can see that.
- 46:13SPEAKER_12: I mean, you know.
- 46:14SPEAKER_12: Yeah, so I clicked on it, and that's what uh but this says schoolhouse rock elbow room.
- 46:19SPEAKER_12: So I'm wondering if this is the one that Larry meant.
- 46:25SPEAKER_06: Schoolhouse rock, what's your phone?
- 46:30SPEAKER_12: Oh wait, maybe it's the same song.
- 46:31SPEAKER_12: It is.
- 46:33SPEAKER_12: Nope, yep.
- 46:34SPEAKER_12: Yeah, that's the same song.
- 46:35SPEAKER_00: You will discover when you get next to one another is.
- 46:39SPEAKER_12: Okay, so I just want to make sure I had the right one.
- 46:41SPEAKER_12: Yep.
- 46:42SPEAKER_12: So that's the right one.
- 46:42SPEAKER_12: Alright, what's yours?
- 46:44SPEAKER_15: I I I I really couldn't think of one because number one, I've never been a sorority girl.
- 46:50SPEAKER_15: So I was just like, uh, well, the only thing that the first thing that came to my mind was Britney Fox.
- 46:58SPEAKER_15: Girl school.
- 46:59SPEAKER_12: Girls school.
- 47:00SPEAKER_12: That's the only one I could think of.
- 47:03SPEAKER_12: Alright, well, let's let's put that up.
- 47:06SPEAKER_12: Oh, wait.
- 47:06SPEAKER_12: This we get the whole intro on this one, right?
- 47:09SPEAKER_12: I want to get past the intro.
- 47:11SPEAKER_12: Uh is it the video?
- 47:13SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 47:13SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 47:14SPEAKER_12: Yeah, so let's get past the intro.
- 47:16SPEAKER_15: Here goes the janitor.
- 48:14SPEAKER_15: I think I made a good choice here.
- 48:16SPEAKER_15: I mean, look at look at all these look at all these uh Catholic schoolgirls early enjoying the song.
- 48:21SPEAKER_15: I mean, you know.
- 48:22SPEAKER_15: All right.
- 48:22SPEAKER_15: I think I I think I chose well here.
- 48:24SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 48:24SPEAKER_12: So well, so I went from it from um the mind of a sorority girl.
- 48:31SPEAKER_12: Oh, there you go.
- 48:32SPEAKER_12: Uh and I went with the waitresses.
- 48:35SPEAKER_12: Do you know the song by the waitresses?
- 48:38SPEAKER_12: Uh do I?
- 48:42SPEAKER_18: I know what boys want.
- 48:50SPEAKER_12: Yeah, man.
- 48:52SPEAKER_18: I make them want me.
- 48:54SPEAKER_18: I like to talk to them.
- 48:57SPEAKER_18: They want to talk to me.
- 48:59SPEAKER_18: I never love them.
- 49:01SPEAKER_18: I know what boys like.
- 49:03SPEAKER_12: The waitresses.
- 49:04SPEAKER_12: The waitresses are like I know what boys like.
- 49:06unknown: I know what boys like.
- 49:09unknown: Boys like.
- 49:10SPEAKER_12: Well, there you go.
- 49:11SPEAKER_15: So uh let's do the So another another interesting week of mixtapes.
- 49:17SPEAKER_12: Let's uh let's pick next week's question.
- 49:19SPEAKER_12: Alright.
- 49:19SPEAKER_12: Are you gonna yeah, okay.
- 49:20SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I gotta go.
- 49:22SPEAKER_12: Uh let me just put this point this out because we may may be able to recover some of this.
- 49:27SPEAKER_12: We may not be able to recover some of this.
- 49:28SPEAKER_12: Uh we're having some a little bit of technical difficulty.
- 49:31SPEAKER_12: Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on with uh our machine.
- 49:35SPEAKER_15: Um I blame the cocaine hippos.
- 49:40SPEAKER_12: We are getting quite a few errors, uh, and I think some of the audio is skipping on this episode.
- 49:45SPEAKER_12: It's the ghost of Pablo Escobar.
- 49:47SPEAKER_12: So uh we will investigate and try and figure out what's going on there.
- 49:51SPEAKER_15: Maybe we just motion gunfight song! Did we do that already?
- 49:58SPEAKER_15: I don't think so.
- 49:59SPEAKER_12: Did we?
- 50:00SPEAKER_12: Slow motion gunfight song.
- 50:03SPEAKER_15: Let me pick it up.
- 50:07SPEAKER_12: I almost think we did.
- 50:08SPEAKER_15: Oh, here, here's a this is a better one.
- 50:10SPEAKER_15: Okay, okay, scratch that.
- 50:11SPEAKER_15: Alright, this one's a better one.
- 50:12SPEAKER_15: Okay, okay.
- 50:13SPEAKER_15: What song have you memorized in hopes that one day the lead singer will leave the group and the band will hold tryouts where you'll be picked to take their place.
- 50:28SPEAKER_15: They didn't say anything about a good job.
- 50:31SPEAKER_15: They just said what song have you memorized?
- 50:34SPEAKER_15: Did it say you could sing?
- 50:36SPEAKER_12: No.
- 50:36SPEAKER_12: And the band and the band singer would would be sick.
- 50:39SPEAKER_15: Well, I mean, they're sick, quit, you know, whatever.
- 50:42SPEAKER_15: Uh, you know.
- 50:44SPEAKER_15: You know, heroin overdose.
- 50:47SPEAKER_15: I mean, you don't you don't know.
- 50:48SPEAKER_15: You don't know!
- 50:49SPEAKER_12: Cocaine hip hop.
- 50:50SPEAKER_12: Cocaine hip hop?
- 50:51SPEAKER_12: Well, there you go.
- 50:51SPEAKER_15: It's up to interpretation.
- 50:53SPEAKER_12: That is mixtape for this week.
- 50:57SPEAKER_12: So, uh, we're gonna take a break.
- 50:59SPEAKER_15: I'm gonna send it to Cousin Larry.

- 53:09SPEAKER_12: Yeah, uh, we are having uh a lot of technical difficulties.
- 53:13SPEAKER_12: It's time to start the music for Climbing the Wall of Tunes.
- 53:16SPEAKER_12: Let's do that.
- 53:17SPEAKER_15: I'm gonna read really quick.
- 53:19SPEAKER_12: Yeah, really quick before it dies again.
- 53:21SPEAKER_12: Before it dies again.
- 53:22SPEAKER_12: I'm gonna take up my headphones again now.
- 53:23SPEAKER_15: Alright, so this week we're gonna do a different song.
- 53:26SPEAKER_15: Uh it's called Cry for a Shadow.
- 53:28SPEAKER_15: Now, if you've never heard of it, it's probably because they wrote it before they were famous.
- 53:33SPEAKER_15: So here we go.
- 53:35SPEAKER_15: When this track was recorded in June 1961, Cliff Richard and the Shadows were Britain's premier rock and roll act.
- 53:41SPEAKER_15: Since his first hit with Move It in October 1958, Cliff had been in the top ten ten times, and the Shadows were now making their own instrumental hits.
- 53:50SPEAKER_15: Although the Beatles found Cliff a bit too tame for their liking, they were early admirers of the Shadows.
- 53:57SPEAKER_15: Paul learned the opening chords of Move It from watching lead guitarist Hank Marvin's finger movements on the Oh Boy TV show, and when Cliff first played the Liverpool Empire on October 12, 1958, Paul was in the audience.
- 54:11SPEAKER_15: Cry for a Shadow, an instrumental intended to sound like Mock Shadows, was credited to Harris and Lennon.
- 54:18SPEAKER_15: It was the Beatles' first composition to make it onto record when it appeared on Tony Sheridan's 1962 German album, My Bonnie, where the backing group was listed as the Beat Brothers.
- 54:29SPEAKER_15: The story is that the composition came about by accident.
- 54:32SPEAKER_15: Rory Storm was in Germany and had asked George to play him a recent.
- 54:36SPEAKER_15: And George came as a jump homage to his original inspiration.
- 54:39SPEAKER_15: He called it Cry for a Shadow.
- 54:41SPEAKER_15: It doesn't sound like Frightened City or Apache, says Shadows guitarist Bruce Welch.
- 54:46SPEAKER_15: It has the same instrumentation that we used metalodically.
- 54:50SPEAKER_15: It's nowhere near either of them.
- 54:52SPEAKER_15: I had heard that it was a piss take because we had a stranglehold on the British group scene, and we'd never been to Germany as almost every other group did.
- 55:02SPEAKER_15: It was recorded in Germany when the orchestra leader and record company producer Bert Campford hired the Beatles for 300 marks.
- 55:10SPEAKER_15: Bert Campford's got the mad hits.
- 55:11SPEAKER_15: Got the mad hits to back Sheridan on the Polydor record.
- 55:15SPEAKER_15: Norwich born Sheridan, a veteran of London's 21 Coffee Bar, had spent a lot of time in Germany, and Camford wanted to do rocked-up versions of such standard as My Bonnie and When the Saints Go Marching In.
- 55:28SPEAKER_15: The Beatles were allowed their own spot on Ain't She's Sweet and Cry for a Shadow.
- 55:32SPEAKER_15: Brian Epstein, who was responsible for getting the Beatles out of leather jackets and into tailored suits, encouraged them to emulate the shadows in their attire and on stage courtesies.
- 55:42SPEAKER_15: The two groups first met in 1963 at a party in London, and in June of that year, Hank, Bruce, and Brian Locking came to Paul's 21st in Liverpool.
- 55:52SPEAKER_15: So that was nice of them to come to his birthday.
- 55:55SPEAKER_15: Right?
- 55:55SPEAKER_15: That's so nice.
- 55:57SPEAKER_12: Cry for a Shadow.
- 55:59SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 56:00SPEAKER_15: Nice.
- 56:01SPEAKER_15: There we go.
- 56:01SPEAKER_12: And there you have it.
- 56:02SPEAKER_12: It says The Beatles with Tony Sheridan, Tony Sheridan, and the Beat Brothers.
- 56:05SPEAKER_15: The Beat Brothers.
- 56:06SPEAKER_15: Pretty cool.
- 56:08SPEAKER_12: That's a whole other song.
- 56:11SPEAKER_12: Goodness gracious.
- 56:12SPEAKER_12: Alright, I have an album.
- 56:13SPEAKER_12: Quick, guess before it's Docken.
- 56:16SPEAKER_12: No.
- 56:16SPEAKER_15: The Beatles.
- 56:17SPEAKER_15: No.

- 56:44SPEAKER_15: I think so.
- 56:44SPEAKER_15: Sort of, yeah?

- 56:46SPEAKER_15: Is it is it?
- 56:46SPEAKER_15: Oh, is it that Fire for Fighting guy?
- 56:48SPEAKER_15: Nope.
- 56:49SPEAKER_15: Okay.

- 56:55SPEAKER_15: I love Paul Rock.
- 56:57SPEAKER_15: I don't know.

- 57:06SPEAKER_15: I know we've done Paul Thorne before.
- 57:08SPEAKER_12: I don't want to say we've done this album, but that's okay.
- 57:11SPEAKER_12: That's alright.
- 57:11SPEAKER_12: Paul Thorne's awesome.

- 57:39SPEAKER_12: Look at that.

- 57:48SPEAKER_12: Uh listen.

- 57:55SPEAKER_15: Is it a new song?
- 57:56SPEAKER_15: New songs, or is it a life?
- 57:58SPEAKER_12: No, it's I think it's it's a new song, because I've heard life is just a vapor.
- 58:02SPEAKER_12: Let me go to life is just a vapor.
