- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 0:16This is 557. I'll be your host, Kyle Corwin.
- 0:21I'm not doing the whole intro. I'm at the beach.
- 0:23I'm not. I'm not.
- 0:24I'm not screaming here. I'm not doing all that.
- 0:29Feels like a little bit of a cop out but.
- 0:30I'm in a You got to do what you got to do.
- 0:32I'm in a slower, slower state in vacation mode.
- 0:37I'm in vacation mode. I'm not doing all that hooting
- 0:39and hollering and shouting, even though we just got done talking
- 0:44about the weekend that our respective teams have had and
- 0:47how we're just trending in complete opposite directions.
- 0:49But that's neither here nor there.
- 0:52You're such. A cherry picker.
- 0:52It's crazy. It's crazy.
- 0:56It's a. It's a what?
- 0:57Have you done for me lately kind of sport and that's that's.
- 0:59What we're talking, I guess. Alas, we're here, Episode 557,
- 1:06and we are here to talk about the disaster that was the
- 1:11Speedway classic it was. So is this fair to say so much a
- 1:16disaster last night that I frankly had kind of lost
- 1:21interest by the time they resumed it today.
- 1:23Is that fair to say? I was golfing today so I didn't
- 1:27even watch it. Yeah.
- 1:28I mean that's that's kind of that's kind of what we're
- 1:31working with here. And look, let me just let me
- 1:33just say this, I saw a lot of people because I had posted like
- 1:38a couple tweets pertain pertaining to it.
- 1:40And they're just like, you know, people love to complain.
- 1:43People are going to find anything to complain about.
- 1:45And I'm like, you know what, how buddy, you're right, couldn't be
- 1:52further. I mean, couldn't be more spot on
- 1:55with that take. However there are certain things
- 1:58that people complain about where it's completely warranted and
- 2:01justified. The facts, the fact this is the
- 2:04fact that they're selling hot dogs without buns.
- 2:10Nachos without cheese. Nachos without cheese before
- 2:14they even reached the second inning.
- 2:16And on top of that I found out that they were charging full
- 2:19price for said snack. That's a crime.
- 2:24Dropping 13 bucks for just some tortilla chips is nuts.
- 2:28Yeah, cheeseless nachos. I think that's more of a crime
- 2:33that's. Chips.
- 2:35I think that's more of a crime than a hot dog without a bun.
- 2:37You wanted to. OK, let's have the discussion.
- 2:39What's more of a crime? A hot dog without a bun?
- 2:44Look. Let's talk heroes.
- 2:46Let's talk heroes. Who's the hero of the hot dog?
- 2:48The hot dog, not the bun. Who's the hero of Nachos?
- 2:56It's the cheese. It's the cheese.
- 2:58I'll, I'll, I'll I'll conceive that's a valid.
- 3:01Point that's a no. So if I'm dropping 13 bucks gets
- 3:06you like 4 bags of tortilla chips?
- 3:09At the store. That's the store, yeah.
- 3:13I'm that's criminal. And then I heard the merchandise
- 3:16was almost out like how not to just like dive head 1st and how
- 3:20bad the, the Speedway classic was.
- 3:22But that's kind of where we, I mean, that's kind of where we
- 3:24have to start because that's, that's what everybody in
- 3:26baseball is talking about right now and for good reason because.
- 3:28What was it on today? Like what network?
- 3:33Fox. Yeah, it was back on Fox.
- 3:35Fox. Picked it back up, but my whole
- 3:38thing is is if you're Major League Baseball, sorry, I was
- 3:43just checking my feed. If you're Major League Baseball,
- 3:48you have to be like you knew this was happening this this
- 3:52event did not sneak up on you. You've been promoted.
- 3:54You know, we've gotten on Major League Baseball before about not
- 3:58not promoting their, you know their marquee events as well as
- 4:01they should that I they've been talking about the Speedway
- 4:03classic for some time. So with that said, this event
- 4:07certainly did not sneak up on you, but the fact that this this
- 4:12venue, this event is unable to handle the the influx of people
- 4:18both with the food like we talked about the merchandise,
- 4:21the seating, the parking, I heard the parking was a
- 4:23nightmare. I.
- 4:24Didn't hear about the parking? That's tough, too.
- 4:26Like I heard you crazy multiple shuttles to to even get to the
- 4:30front of the entrance. See, that doesn't add up to me
- 4:32because you haven't. You have, what do you call that?
- 4:38A track? Arena.
- 4:39Stadium. A race track.
- 4:42There's just. You just call it a track.
- 4:43You're not a NASCAR guy, are you?
- 4:45Not at all. How many do they host 100,000?
- 4:50Well, didn't they said that they were anticipating what, 85,000
- 4:54at this event? And it was very it wasn't.
- 4:57We're talking 120 a 120,000 when it's full for a race.
- 5:01Let's check it out. Let's let's confirm this is
- 5:04Bristol. How do you not have enough
- 5:06parking when 3/4 of that is coming?
- 5:12According to Google, Bristol Motor Speedway has a capacity of
- 5:16146,000 people. But you don't have enough
- 5:20parking for 80. You not have enough How?
- 5:25How is it this much of a mess? Look, I understand.
- 5:28I understand the weather out of your control.
- 5:31We. Sure.
- 5:32We know this, that's sure. There's no reason to harp on the
- 5:36weather. That's just.
- 5:37Out of control before you move on from the weather.
- 5:40Well, maybe we can harp on the. Weather the game, Why are we
- 5:43starting for an inning? I get it.
- 5:48Well, let's talk about it from a, from a trying to start the
- 5:52game standpoint. I understand because like I said
- 5:56in our, in our, in our group text last night, from like a
- 5:59Major League Baseball standpoint, you can't just be
- 6:02like, let's try it again tomorrow, even though that's
- 6:06ultimately what they did. You can't, you can't have all
- 6:09this build up and then not see a single pitch.
- 6:12The thing, the issue that I had with Major League Baseball and
- 6:15this whole thing as it pertains to the weather was the, the
- 6:19conditions that they tried to resume this game in like they
- 6:25before they even brought the tarp out, they've got guys
- 6:27bringing on the, the, the bags of, of dirt.
- 6:31Bags. Bags trying to, you know, make
- 6:36it somewhat playable. And I'm like, I know money's
- 6:40important to Major League Baseball, but is it this
- 6:42important to where we're trying to play in this?
- 6:45This is a nightmare. So yeah, while the weather
- 6:49certainly is out of out of their control, I understand that there
- 6:52was just so many things where I feel like they were they were
- 6:55scrambling and on a lot of things, I don't know if they
- 6:58they erred on the on the correct side, if they if they threw
- 7:01caution to the right things. Yeah, I look, if I'm running the
- 7:05show here on the on the logistical stadium slash track
- 7:11side of things, I think I know about that weather 3-4 days
- 7:18before, right? I know that storm's coming. 2-3
- 7:23day. I'll give you 2 days.
- 7:25And on that note, from what I've heard, I don't know much about
- 7:28eastern Tennessee, specifically Bristol, but apparently it's
- 7:32been raining there for like the last two months.
- 7:35So I guess eastern Tennessee turns into like Seattle this
- 7:38time of year? I'm not entirely sure.
- 7:41If I see that storm coming, one of the as far as a checklist
- 7:47goes, if I've got 10 priority checklist items that I got to
- 7:53take care of more food is pretty, pretty high on that
- 7:57checklist for me. If you see rain delays, I need
- 8:01to make sure that the taps are flowing, that the that the
- 8:05cheese is moving, and that the buns are aplenty.
- 8:10How? How are you out?
- 8:12How are you out of buns and not dogs first of all?
- 8:15That's a great question. That's a great question.
- 8:17Why is the ratio off? Like who?
- 8:19Are Why do we have enough dogs? Do we have an influx of people
- 8:23that are specifically requesting dogs only right out of the gate?
- 8:27Like what? Happened.
- 8:28No disrespect, but not in that, Not that side, not that side of
- 8:31the country, You know what I'm saying?
- 8:33Not that area of the country. They know how to eat.
- 8:35They know how to party. Those people park their RV's in
- 8:39the middle of that track and stay for the weekend.
- 8:43It's a lifestyle. It's roasting pigs like it's a
- 8:49lifestyle. They know how to eat.
- 8:50They know and. You know what, they've got a
- 8:52great view from the middle of the the middle of the yard
- 8:55there. However you want to talk about
- 8:57views, that's another element to this whole thing that I think
- 9:00Major League Baseball dropped the ball on.
- 9:01Have you seen some of the pictures from the seats?
- 9:06Atrocious. Like we're talking, we're
- 9:09talking like Fenway Park on steroids, Like you know, you
- 9:12know, the, the big, the big columns like around Fenway and
- 9:16and other various parks that are a little bit older that on
- 9:19steroids, like you can't. There was, there was a view I
- 9:22saw in fact, like right before we hopped, hopped on, I was
- 9:25watching a TikTok of some, I guess it was some guy and his
- 9:28girlfriend or fiance or whatever, and they were behind
- 9:31home plate, but like half a mile away.
- 9:36And the the back of of the concourse, we'll call it a
- 9:42concourse, like the essentially like the press media area, the
- 9:46backstop area was obstructing the view.
- 9:50They couldn't even see the circle at home plate.
- 9:55I mean what? 5600 bucks to get in there.
- 9:58No doubt. And and I can just hear people
- 10:02as I'm saying this being like, well, nobody's forcing you to,
- 10:05to, to spend money on those tickets.
- 10:07Yeah, that's true. But also like, how about just
- 10:10not having, Yeah, how about just not having those to begin with?
- 10:13And apparently in that video, the guy even said, I think the
- 10:17caption was like, these tickets were listed as having a quote
- 10:20Clearview. And it just pans to the guy as
- 10:23it's like torrential downpour. And he's just like, yeah, this
- 10:26is a Clearview. Like what are, what are we
- 10:29doing? And then if, if you recall, last
- 10:32thing I'll say on the views, if you, if you recall when, when
- 10:35this, when this event was first announced, first promoted, I
- 10:40did, I took the, the rendering of the, of the track and the
- 10:45seats that they had to kind of give you an idea of what it
- 10:48would look like. And I did some super elementary
- 10:50math and I, I sort of took like a scale of like knowing how wide
- 10:54the track is, knowing, you know, taking the distance from the
- 10:58track to the wall. And I, I extrapolated that out
- 11:01to the furthest seat that they had in the rendering, which I
- 11:04believe I, if I'm not mistaken, they actually put like they,
- 11:08they used those seats that were in the rendering that were like
- 11:133/4 of a mile away. And I said in, I said in that
- 11:17tweet and I, I said this is very basic, like elementary, you
- 11:22know, math here. But I think we're dealing with
- 11:26like a minimum of being 1000 feet away.
- 11:29That's, that's like watching like if you're watching a play
- 11:31at the plate, that's like watching a play at the goal line
- 11:36from like 3 1/2 football fields away.
- 11:38Yeah. That's what we're, that's what
- 11:40we're dealing with. Yeah, what a waste, man.
- 11:44What a waste. Because it like on paper is a
- 11:45good idea. Look, some positives.
- 11:48I, I didn't love the hats, but I did like the jerseys.
- 11:51I like the, I put that in our chat.
- 11:53I like the, the racing style numbers on the jerseys.
- 11:57Think that was a nice touch. I didn't love the hats.
- 12:04I think I'm out of positives. Can I jump in with a positive?
- 12:08Sure. Or more more general, more
- 12:10general. I I 'cause I was thinking about
- 12:12today after the fiasco that was last night.
- 12:16I. I think this was a super unique,
- 12:19the more I thought about it, very unique crossover in taking
- 12:24Major League Baseball and the the world that is NASCAR.
- 12:28Like, you know, you people can make jokes all they want, but
- 12:32like it when talking about those two respective sports, like
- 12:35there is a little bit of crossover in terms of
- 12:37followership just a little bit. So it, it kind of just made
- 12:42sense from that aspect. However, it was, it was just the
- 12:47execution, like the build up and everything was awesome.
- 12:50Even like the pre game stuff. I saw that like they had pit
- 12:53crews out there like prior to pre game intros and things like
- 12:56that. I'm like that, you know, this is
- 12:57super cool. Is it kind of gimmicky?
- 12:59Like that's fine, like that's fine.
- 13:02That's the case with a lot of these events.
- 13:03So you kind of just have to, you know, grin and bear it.
- 13:06However, it's still it. I, I think the, the idea was,
- 13:11was excellent. However, the execution was not
- 13:16because again, how you were so unprepared and to your point,
- 13:22for an event that didn't even reach like what 75% of what
- 13:29you're typically capable of, of, of handling on a, on a standard
- 13:34race day. Crazy.
- 13:36I don't understand. Yeah, I think the first mistake
- 13:39was obviously trying to force the game to happen on Saturday.
- 13:44I felt like Sunday made more sense.
- 13:46Race days are Sundays, aren't they?
- 13:49Correct. OK, there's a there's a drop the
- 13:52ball number one there #2 especially with the weather
- 13:55coming in. Like what are we doing there?
- 13:58I've been in the camp that I think, look, I like go to the
- 14:03field cause I've seen a lot of takes.
- 14:04It was like, let's get the Field of Dreams back into the mix.
- 14:07That's been the best so far as far as like A Midsummer fun
- 14:12event, non stadium, you know, field trip.
- 14:17I've been in the camp that like I understand you building
- 14:21bleachers kind of up the line and behind the backstop.
- 14:26Put some bleachers back in the corn.
- 14:29I'm not saying up against the very edge of the corn, I'm
- 14:32saying back in the corn. Why not?
- 14:37Why not put bleachers out there where people are watching a home
- 14:42run Land in front of them in corn.
- 14:45Like if you're going to make this Field of Dreams, make a
- 14:47Field of Dreams. Put seats on the track.
- 14:51Move the move the fences, readjust the alignment of the
- 14:55field to where you can have people park their RV's in the
- 14:58grass in the middle. Like if we're really going to
- 15:01blend this thing, if we're really going to commit to the
- 15:04scene, for me to do it right, commit to the scene.
- 15:09Like how how many NASCAR fans were like, I would go to this if
- 15:13it, if I had the opportunity to walk on that track for the first
- 15:16time. I love my NASCAR.
- 15:18I've never stepped foot on that track.
- 15:20Imagine walking on the track to get to your seats.
- 15:24That is feeling. If you're a NASCAR fan, you're
- 15:26in that area, you want to go to that game.
- 15:28Imagine feeling that feeling if you're a Field of Dreams fan and
- 15:34you love that movie, imagine feeling the feeling of walking
- 15:37through the cornfield to get to your seats.
- 15:40If you're going to do it, do it all the way.
- 15:42Let's not just try to make sure that we can build these spots to
- 15:46where sponsorships are available that to make sure that we can
- 15:50actually have seats that make sense.
- 15:53Like let's commit to the bit. And I don't think they've fully
- 15:57committed to some of these things.
- 15:59So that's where I'm at. I think it'd be really neat if
- 16:01you're watching your kids play around near the RV in the grass
- 16:08and you've got these guys that have, you know, tailgated all
- 16:12day, hanging out back there cooking up BBQ, grilling.
- 16:15And they're on the grass and it's on a Sunday because that's
- 16:20race day. That's how you blend it.
- 16:24Why do I? I need a raise.
- 16:27I need AI need a raise. I need a promotion.
- 16:29This goes back to what I was. Rob, this Rob didn't call.
- 16:34He needs to be calling me. Yeah.
- 16:35Can you double check? Can you double check real quick?
- 16:37Did he call it's? A couple of missed calls and it
- 16:40wasn't not. Not Rob.
- 16:42Yeah, that's tough. This goes back to what I was
- 16:45saying where I don't remember how recently I said this, but I
- 16:50remember saying this recently. Something the effect of like,
- 16:53sure, we're not the, we're not the powers that be with Major
- 16:56League Baseball or any, any fans really out there.
- 16:59We're not the powers that be. So we, we don't have any say in
- 17:02these decisions necessarily when when the rubber hits the road,
- 17:05pun intended. However, it's like some of these
- 17:08decisions that have to be made seem like just such common sense
- 17:14to where it's like such a layup and you drop the ball.
- 17:19Yeah, you drop the ball and it just it I said it last night,
- 17:24this was a this was APR nightmare Major League Baseball
- 17:28because again, you spend so much time building it up.
- 17:31And like I said, they did a great job promoting it.
- 17:33So, you know, credit, credit to them on that front.
- 17:35But this, this just, it was a flop for for more reasons than
- 17:42just the weather, again, that that's out of their control.
- 17:44But then when you start you, when you start hearing it from
- 17:46the people themselves who were there, you start seeing the
- 17:50pictures, you start seeing the people literally holding hot
- 17:53dogs without a bun, just eating them.
- 17:56It's like like just one or two. It was all over social.
- 17:58Media like that's that's kind of what we're.
- 18:00Dealing with and we get like in between innings, let's get some
- 18:04cars out there to race now that's so easy to do these
- 18:09things, these things and they I saw like a rally car going
- 18:12around. The home run car Did you see the
- 18:14home run car today? Whatever I, whatever I, I was
- 18:20all right with. That you know what I you they
- 18:21need. More.
- 18:23Well, Blooper gave us more. You want to go back to that
- 18:26point you you made about trying to find positives?
- 18:28Blooper, I think what was it he took?
- 18:30He was able to, he was able to take 13 laps last night before,
- 18:36yeah, Major League Baseball apparently kicked them off.
- 18:38That's, that's that's the stuff we need.
- 18:41That's the stuff that people need.
- 18:42Absolutely. I just need this game to succeed
- 18:46without one of the best mascots in the game.
- 18:49You know what I mean? I need you to set me up for
- 18:52success. Yeah, don't there's.
- 18:54A lot that you could have done with this and they dropped the
- 18:57ball. Yeah, don't, don't, don't have
- 19:00bloopers your crutch. Like don't, don't put this all
- 19:03on the back of blooper. You know, that's that's what I'm
- 19:06saying. It's a lot of, it's a lot to
- 19:07look. That's a big load to care.
- 19:09He can. He's capable.
- 19:11He's capable of doing it. But don't.
- 19:12But don't do that to him, you know?
- 19:14Don't force it on him, that's let him do it on his own.
- 19:16Let it, let it happen naturally. Last thing before we move on
- 19:21here. This was that picture I was
- 19:22telling you about. That's that's the view.
- 19:25That's a view that was was being offered at at said game.
- 19:30That that's the kind of thing I'm talking about where people
- 19:32are like people just love to complain.
- 19:34This is a valtrocious that is a. Valve, the right fielder and the
- 19:38first base coach and that's it. What are we doing?
- 19:42And maybe the second baseman, if they're playing in the shift,
- 19:45other than that, that's what we're that like.
- 19:47That's what we're working with here.
- 19:49So to the people that are just like, just stop complaining.
- 19:52No. Tell me that this is.
- 19:54Tell me that this is valid. No good.
- 19:57Unbelievable. However, I said we're going to
- 20:03move on, so let's move on. Enough about the Speedway
- 20:05Classic. Shout out to the Braves.
- 20:07They pulled out the dub, but. I'll be honest with you after
- 20:11last. Night I didn't care I.
- 20:14Which I knew was going to happen, and that's what Major
- 20:15League Baseball was trying to avoid.
- 20:17They said like this was their time to shine.
- 20:19I had. Plans.
- 20:20They people, people I think we're going to lose interest
- 20:23once it carried over to the next day.
- 20:24Sadly, at least me and and I think a handful of others.
- 20:27I won't say everybody, but I I would venture to say that was a
- 20:29case for a lot of people. But alas, we move on.
- 20:34Nate It was shared with the Baseball World this weekend that
- 20:38Wrigley Field will be hosting the 2027 All Star Game.
- 20:41Thoughts. My thoughts are, are we going to
- 20:45have to go to three consecutive All Star games?
- 20:47That's my initial thought. My thoughts are are we even
- 20:51going to have an All Star game in 2027?
- 20:56But I but but. I don't.
- 20:59I'm not ready to get there yet. I can't.
- 21:01But behold, Rob Manfred, the godfather, has spoken on this
- 21:08matter because he was asked about this.
- 21:10There's a thing they they were asking like, yeah, Rob, what's
- 21:12going on? Man?
- 21:13Are we? Are we?
- 21:14Yeah. Still nothing, he said.
- 21:15Rob, are we going to have baseball in 2027?
- 21:17They're asking the day he made the announcement to his point,
- 21:20he said they're asking about a contingency plan.
- 21:24And he said, my contingency plan is to make an agreement with the
- 21:27players and play the 2027 season.
- 21:30Rob, you're so full of crap. Don't stop with it.
- 21:34Nobody's nobody with the brain is buying this.
- 21:39You know, you know that guy on you know that guy on TikTok on
- 21:42the latest episode of who's buying this?
- 21:45Same thing? Same thing.
- 21:46Who's buying this? Respect for that guy.
- 21:49Eating a lot of takes guts. Nobody, nobody that knows
- 21:57anything about the game of baseball as it pertains to Major
- 22:00League Baseball and that level. Nobody believes what Rob Manfred
- 22:04is saying here. My contingency plan is to to
- 22:07make a deal with the players and play in 2027.
- 22:10Nobody believes that we're not if, if, if the way that we're
- 22:16talking about that season and and what's to come the way we
- 22:20are already just count on this All Star game not happening, Rob
- 22:24like it's it's cool that you know, the the plan is in place,
- 22:28but it let what are we what are we talking about here?
- 22:31OK. So go back, going back to your
- 22:33question, we may not have to make the choice to go to three
- 22:36straight All Star. Game, it's good point.
- 22:38It's a good point I and if you're in the chat, I'd
- 22:41appreciate your opinion. Do we have any teams that aren't
- 22:49gaslighting us? In what way?
- 22:54Of a plug in any kind of Aaron Boone response and any question
- 23:01he's ever had during post game interview of it's right in front
- 23:06of us. We believe in this team.
- 23:08Is there any team that's not feeling an aspect of that?
- 23:11You're feeling it first hand with Heim Bloom after the
- 23:15deadline, right? Craig Breslow, you mean?
- 23:17Craig Breslow, you're feeling that with with Breslow after the
- 23:20deadline of all the comments, right?
- 23:22Like the the Orioles felt it last year.
- 23:27You're, you're, you're having Alexandopolis saying not not
- 23:30making any moves to the deadline.
- 23:31My point being is that how many times are we as baseball fans
- 23:39going to allow ourselves to get gas lit into believing the
- 23:45nonsense? And I get that like the level of
- 23:51competition and like the success of your team is a little bit of
- 23:55a different argument versus a CBA agreement.
- 24:00But it's very interesting to see the correlation of the way all
- 24:07of seemingly all of our GMs answer questions.
- 24:12A lot of managers, a lot of players, a lot of front offices,
- 24:19the commissioner, everyone seems to just want to gaslight their
- 24:24fan base. And As for baseball as a whole,
- 24:28to just sit here and say that it's at least admit that you're
- 24:34a little worried about this upcoming agreement because it is
- 24:38in question. And I feel like the only time we
- 24:41get a straight answer on any of that type of stuff is from Tony
- 24:45Clark is from the Players Association.
- 24:49And it's at this point where like, they're so not willing to
- 24:53budget. And then we're also at the same
- 24:57time hearing on the organization side, we're doing all we can.
- 25:04We're always going to do all we can.
- 25:06And it's the same buttering up that we've always experienced.
- 25:10And I'm just like, when is enough enough?
- 25:12When can we get a straight answer?
- 25:15And are there any other sports that really give that?
- 25:17I don't know. I don't know if it's just us
- 25:20falling for this as sports fans, but the reality is we are and I
- 25:25very much sway towards players. No doubt.
- 25:29But what we are sitting here trying to pick sides between
- 25:33millionaires and billionaires and at a certain point it's
- 25:37like, can you start caring more about your fans?
- 25:42Can you start putting the focus back on us and stop just giving
- 25:47us this this All Star vote that we get every year And that's the
- 25:51only control that we seemingly have over our game.
- 25:55It's insane to me. So I am worried about a 27
- 25:59season. It sucks.
- 26:01I don't want to admit it, but I'm sick of both sides just
- 26:04sitting here saying everything's going to be fine right over.
- 26:08Well, real quick, before I forget, you want to talk?
- 26:11We talk tinfoil hat all the time.
- 26:13I'm not, I'm not fully convinced that the the, the All Star vote
- 26:17thing actually there's a real thing.
- 26:21Like I might, I might, I might Don a a a tinfoil hat on that.
- 26:25I mean, how do we really know if, if Major League Baseball is,
- 26:28is tallying these votes from fans for players and not just
- 26:32not just pushing the players they want anyway?
- 26:34That's not that's. That's neither here nor there.
- 26:36It's not here and it's not there.
- 26:38It's definitely not here, definitely not there.
- 26:42What I would say, though, you mentioned Tony Clark, the, the,
- 26:46you know, the players union, all that.
- 26:48We can't be naive to think that, you know, like you said, we're
- 26:53we, you and I, as well as a lot of other baseball fans who just
- 26:57like watching players play and not owner sit in their luxury
- 27:01suites. We lean, we, we often times
- 27:05learn more players than not. However, we can't be naive to,
- 27:11to think that, you know, Tony Clark and company are keeping
- 27:16things on the up and up all the time.
- 27:17I, you know, there, there's, there's certainly a level of
- 27:21Tony Clark and the, and the players using the fans as a
- 27:25crutch. Because.
- 27:27They, they know that they can position us and, and, and
- 27:32posture things in a way that makes it look like, well, we're
- 27:35the player. Like we're the player, the
- 27:36players side of things. We've got the fans in our
- 27:38corner. It's like.
- 27:39When in doubt, we're not blaming the the the the players.
- 27:43If there's a strike, we're blaming the organizations,
- 27:46correct? So it's like, yeah, that may be
- 27:48true, Tony Clark and and camp that you have us in your corner
- 27:53to an extent. But when when players in the and
- 27:56the organizations and the owner start bickering about, you know,
- 28:00things that really have no impact on us, but they're just
- 28:04bickering about things because that's that's what's on the
- 28:07table. And they to your point, they
- 28:09sort of forget about us fans. That's when you kind of lose me
- 28:13and I'm like, all right, you, you, you guys figured out and
- 28:16get back to us when you finally got, you know, when when cooler
- 28:20heads prevail. Nate, go ahead.
- 28:23Are we are? Are we the kids in like divorce
- 28:26court? Absolutely.
- 28:28Every every agreement. Anytime.
- 28:32Anytime the CBA. Yeah, anytime the CBA papers
- 28:37come in the mail. Us US kids know that.
- 28:41Who who pays the price most in divorces?
- 28:44Some hard conversations are coming.
- 28:47It's us. It's us, the kids.
- 28:50Or or the kids. Cool, cool if Wrigley gets it
- 28:55rolling, you know what I mean. Wrigley sounds nice during the
- 28:59summer. Never been myself, but I could I
- 29:03could get on board. Speaking of that, I didn't want
- 29:06to totally derail into the the CBA nonsense, however I feel
- 29:11like it is relevant here, but I do have some some information
- 29:14that I pulled from from some research I was doing earlier
- 29:17that I was unaware of. This will be should they host.
- 29:22This will be the 4th time that Wrigley Fields host the All Star
- 29:25Game. They hosted in 4762 and 1990.
- 29:32Little did I know, I wasn't even born yet, so, you know, forgive
- 29:35me. To those older fans out there
- 29:37who may remember this, I me neither.
- 29:39I certainly don't. However, I read that the 1990
- 29:44All Star Game was known for its historically low offensive
- 29:48output. The National League was held to
- 29:50two hits, the fewest for an All Star team in history.
- 29:54The get this, this is this blew my mind, blew my mind.
- 29:58This wasn't even pertaining to the All Star game.
- 30:00This was the Home Run Derby, the eight man Home Run Derby in
- 30:051990. The field of eight guys combined
- 30:09to hit five home runs. Ryan Sandberg, rest his soul,
- 30:17won the Home Run Derby with three home runs 3.
- 30:26Summertime in in Chicago. The I don't know what other
- 30:32explanation there is, but that blew my mind. 35 in total.
- 30:39Crazy. Any who the in addition to I
- 30:45meant this. Is why people took steroids.
- 30:48Yeah, Major League Baseball was looking for something that that
- 30:52time, that timing would track, by the way.
- 30:54I mean, this is 90. And they're like, we gotta, we
- 30:56let's. We gotta save something, yeah.
- 30:58Let's get some things in motion here.
- 31:01But I mentioned this will be their fourth time hosting.
- 31:05Let me see here. Wrigley Field is set to join
- 31:09Cleveland's Municipal Stadium, and the old Yankee Stadium is
- 31:12the only ballparks that host 4 All Star games.
- 31:15This will be the city of Chicago's 8th time hosting,
- 31:19second only to New York's nine. Obviously you take into account
- 31:22the White Sox and Mets in that equation.
- 31:26But going back to your original point, I think this would be an
- 31:30awesome event to go to. And I know we're kind of like,
- 31:32we're like on the fence right now about like, you know, like
- 31:35you kind of go to 1 All Star game.
- 31:37You kind of get a feel for what it is, but I'm like Philly.
- 31:40Next year. That's what I'm saying I I feel
- 31:43like it'd be less about the the actual games that honestly,
- 31:47honestly hear me. Out.
- 31:49Hear me out after you of your after you're heard out, I have
- 31:53to be heard out. Maybe we just make it a thing
- 31:58moving forward where we don't even go.
- 32:00Like we go, but we don't go. Does that make sense?
- 32:04Like we're not purchasing tickets, but we.
- 32:07Go for the. Go for the festivities, We do
- 32:09our Wiffle ball derbies, we do our MVP series.
- 32:12Walk around the village, Go to the village, get the content,
- 32:16get the merch. I would go to Derby.
- 32:20I would go to Derby and then stream All Star game.
- 32:25I could get down with that little, little gentleman's
- 32:29agreement. Maybe that's.
- 32:29Just something there I was going to say for from my turn to be
- 32:33heard out. Sure, if you're if you're
- 32:35hearing, I'll hear. Yeah.
- 32:39I think there's a good chance the Phillies are in the
- 32:41postseason this year. Maybe we go to Philly knowing
- 32:48that the WBC is next year. Skip Philly All Star game
- 32:53because we've already been to Philly.
- 32:55Yeah. Wrigley All Star game in 27
- 33:00Homer Derby Homer Derby in 27 Stream All Star game go.
- 33:06Hear me out, hear me out. I heard, I heard you.
- 33:09I've you've been heard once. I've been heard once.
- 33:13I can hear you again. Hear.
- 33:14Me out again, Philly 2026. We can't.
- 33:21What if? What if our sweet young Prince
- 33:23is on a heater, agrees to do the Derby, and we miss out?
- 33:29That would be that'd be catastrophic.
- 33:33I mean, barring any injury, he's going to be in the Derby.
- 33:38Was he one of the guys that said he wouldn't do it until it was
- 33:41like? Was back in Philly.
- 33:43Was did he say that? Yeah, yeah, that sounds like a
- 33:47brace quote. I swear he said that.
- 33:51If I was going to throw a Bryce quote out there, that'd be
- 33:54that'd be the one, so. Because I did.
- 33:59Did he say that about DCI? Feel like he almost said that
- 34:02when he was in DC too. So maybe that's just like a home
- 34:05ballpark, you know, do it for the people kind of thing.
- 34:09I don't know, hard to say. What?
- 34:13Hey, our our guys over beyond the bank want to want to want us
- 34:17to let. I know, I know.
- 34:18There's a, there's. Look, there's legitimate
- 34:20dialogue being had. I sure, Kyle.
- 34:28I, I, I think on my short list of things I want to witness in
- 34:34the, in the very near near future.
- 34:36And the reality of it is, I think we're running out of time.
- 34:39Post season, Post season in the bank.
- 34:42Specifically featuring a sweet young Prince Homer, preferably,
- 34:50preferably like 6th inning or later that I mean, if I can get
- 34:54that, I'm taking, I'm I'm, I'm, I'm framing that, that moment.
- 35:01That's where I'm at. That's where I'm at.
- 35:04I All Star games. Cool.
- 35:08We saw how many other fans are there.
- 35:12Atlanta was still loud for the Braves, but not post season
- 35:18experience. You know what I mean?
- 35:21So Philly Posey bear hands. You know, I kind of always the
- 35:29also again. I would be, I would be amongst
- 35:32my people and I think. He'd be well.
- 35:36Adopted I I, I mean, I've already been adopted into the as
- 35:40an honorary fan. I have, I have, I, I, you know,
- 35:46Speaking of the Beyond the Bank podcast I had, I think there's
- 35:52an undertone of, of 2009 that still sits in there.
- 36:02I don't feel that way. I don't feel any animosity.
- 36:06I expressed that on the on the podcast as well the Phillies
- 36:11that I don't have any. I don't have any angst or
- 36:13animosity. I think there's a little bit of
- 36:18we don't love you guys back from O nine kind of conversation
- 36:22going. So what I'm saying is I'm
- 36:25willing to do a Phillies a Phillies postseason game.
- 36:31What if what if one of our teams is in the postseason?
- 36:34And what if we did a little jaunt this postseason?
- 36:40That's be. That'd be a lot of legit.
- 36:42Ideas. These are ideas.
- 36:44Hey Handshake, That will at least will at least explore it.
- 36:49That will not everything sticks to the wall, but things need to
- 36:51be thrown at it, you know? And nothing says accountability
- 36:56like throwing these ideas out on the pod.
- 36:58So, you know, let's let's let's explore it.
- 37:02Let's put a let's put a pin in that.
- 37:05Speaking of Speaking of the Yankees, Nate Marcus Stroman
- 37:09released. On Friday, take care what a.
- 37:13What a. You know, I don't, I don't like
- 37:14to rejoice in, you know, I, I, I don't, I don't take joy in
- 37:20people losing their jobs, especially in this climate, you
- 37:23know, like people losing their jobs.
- 37:25That's a, that's a tough, that's a tough reality, especially in
- 37:30this area, man. I mean, people are losing their
- 37:32jobs out here left and right and it's, it sucks.
- 37:35However, however. However, I wasn't, I mean I
- 37:43wasn't disappointed. No disrespect, except sort of
- 37:48little. Sprinkle little sprinkle
- 37:50disrespect. Wasn't disappointed that Marcus
- 37:53Stroman, you know, woke up Saturday and was no longer a
- 37:57Yankee. He did, however, did you?
- 37:59I don't know if he saw that post.
- 38:02Of course. It was the no, I think it was
- 38:06yes, where he was like, I give it, he said.
- 38:09I give it two days before Marcus Strohman post something letting
- 38:12us know that he's rich and is unbothered by this release and
- 38:16it. Was like, he's got his feet up
- 38:17on a private jet saying audience.
- 38:18Got his watch. Got his watch.
- 38:20I mean, on cue, that's Marcus Stroman.
- 38:24That's the Marcus Stroman that we know.
- 38:26And I give it this. This happened what?
- 38:28Friday I give it by next I'll give it a week.
- 38:33I'll give him a week. The the.
- 38:37Bad bought into his new team. If he even ends up on a new
- 38:40team. But I'll give it.
- 38:41I'll give it till this coming Friday before you start hearing
- 38:45you get it, you start getting these sound bites, these quotes,
- 38:48these tweets from Stroman talking about how this guy, how
- 38:52this guy ruined his life, how this trainer was unprofessional,
- 38:56how ownership mishandled, mistreated, it's every time.
- 39:02Why anybody would choose to bring this guy into their
- 39:06clubhouse is so beyond me. I I am truly the loss for words.
- 39:12It made sense with the Yankees because I'm like this is just
- 39:14something that they would do whatever.
- 39:16No disrespect, full disrespect actually, but anybody outside of
- 39:21the Yankees, if you would choose to bring him in, you're you've
- 39:26at this point in his career. You know exactly what you're
- 39:29doing you. There is no excuse to to act as
- 39:32if you that you're just going to be caught off guard by by these
- 39:35antics and by this behavior after he gets let go crazy.
- 39:39Marcus Stroman, you are an Atlanta Brave.
- 39:44We've said that before. I feel like you and I have
- 39:47we've, I think we've arrived at that point before in years past
- 39:50where I'm like there's a team that likes a little bit, a
- 39:54little bit of edge, a little bit of, you know, whatever it's.
- 39:58The Braves, Yeah, you're, yeah, you're an Atlanta Brave that.
- 40:03Tracks. Kind of kind of kind of force
- 40:09yourself in a tough situation, you know, kind of back yourself
- 40:12into a corner in the, in the, you know, offseason, in spring
- 40:16training, when you're like, I'm a starter, I'm a starter, I'm a
- 40:18starter. I'm not willing to do anything
- 40:20else. It's like, brother, you throw
- 40:2391. I think we maybe need to have a
- 40:28conversation about you willing to do some middle of relief.
- 40:32You know, I don't think you're I don't think you're really
- 40:36dialing it up enough for six innings.
- 40:39Yeah, a bet I will say a better 2025 season than I expected.
- 40:47That says I have very. Low expectations, Yeah, I don't
- 40:49know. Very, very low expectations.
- 40:53Crazy. Then I'm going to go ahead and
- 40:56say you're, you're probably right in the fact that we don't
- 41:00know if another team's going to pick him up.
- 41:03Somebody's obviously, obviously no one was willing to send a low
- 41:08way prospect and some cash over at the deadline for him.
- 41:12True or the offseason because they were shot they were they
- 41:15they were anticipating a little bit of a log jam in terms of
- 41:17rotation depth. They tried to shop him and.
- 41:20No one was willing to do that so.
- 41:22That's my that's my point is you have that happen in the
- 41:26offseason and then have the year that he had maybe teams have
- 41:31finally wised up and been like it's not worth it, it's not
- 41:34worth it. No, just really not.
- 41:36You're not. You're not.
- 41:37It just it's. You're not that guy.
- 41:40You're not that guy. Pal, not that guy.
- 41:43Diss track with Mike Studd within six months.
- 41:48Fellow Duke boy, Yeah, who's not a Duke boy, but could be
- 41:55considered that guy. Aaron Judge report that he is
- 41:59back next week. I don't want to spend this
- 42:01entire podcast talking about the Yankees.
- 42:02However you know relevant to. Me neither.
- 42:05Current events, Well, you bring up a good point there with your
- 42:09response, just in case you you miss it at the beginning.
- 42:14I did. I did allude to the fact that
- 42:17Yankees had quite the weekend this weekend.
- 42:20First time in franchise history actually getting swept by the
- 42:22Marlins. We've been doing interleague
- 42:26play for how long? I'm not too worried about that.
- 42:31Well, I. Mean there's there's context
- 42:34involved there. Well, yeah, that they suck right
- 42:37now, but that that's really the only context you need anyway.
- 42:40Maybe the fact that Aaron Judge is coming back next week may
- 42:42help. Apparently he's slated for or I
- 42:47say next week, this coming week, slated to come back.
- 42:49I I saw Tuesday, Wednesday, somewhere in that in that time
- 42:52frame. Is that correct?
- 42:53We'll see. Yeah, I guess.
- 42:54Who knows? Who knows, there might be more
- 42:57medical staff malpractice by before that point, so who knows.
- 43:01It's probably in. DH for like a week and who
- 43:04knows. That's a good point.
- 43:10Good point in the chat. Marlins have been playing good
- 43:11baseball though out of nowhere. Let's not let the Yankees off
- 43:14the hook. I mean, at the end of the day,
- 43:15it's still the Marlins. Speaking of bad baseball, the
- 43:19Rockies and the Pirates had a game scored. 400 runs this this
- 43:24weekend. 671 runs on Friday alone, and that was only like an
- 43:31eighth inning. No, but the the Rockies, I
- 43:39think, yeah, Rockies took it 1716.
- 43:42This was after going down nine runs.
- 43:49Apparently the all the damage, like the majority of the damage,
- 43:51happened in the first they had. There was a Grand Slam O'Neill
- 43:54Cruz Grand Slam and McCutcheon 3 run Homer and then they hold on.
- 44:04I've got OK. So Colorado scored one run in
- 44:07the bottom of the first, three in the third, two in the fourth
- 44:10and four in the 5th to cut Pittsburgh's lead to 15 to 10.
- 44:14The Rockies trailed 16 to 10 before scoring two runs in the
- 44:17eighth and five in the ninth. Insane, insane.
- 44:26Coors Field, baby, you never know.
- 44:28Well, I mean, how many games we played in Coors Field?
- 44:31This game, this game doesn't happen every day.
- 44:38Too bad teams. Too bad teams, too bad
- 44:44situations for Emmanuel Class A and Luis Ortiz.
- 44:49Their lockers have been cleared out.
- 44:50We were talking about it yesterday.
- 44:53Don't think there's been an instance where lockers have been
- 44:56cleared out and player. Somebody correct me if I'm
- 44:58wrong. I'm I'm just completely
- 45:01guessing. I have done 0 research on this
- 45:03matter, but I'm guessing that there's.
- 45:05Shooting from the hip. Shooting from the hip.
- 45:08Guessing that there's zero instances of a locker being
- 45:11cleared out and A and said player returning later that
- 45:14year, especially with only two months left in the season.
- 45:17So safe to say those two guys are done.
- 45:20I'm seeing speculation that they may not even did they?
- 45:24People are like I'm seeing reports that are like they may
- 45:26not even play Major League Baseball.
- 45:27Again, that's wild to me. I saw something that the Luis
- 45:32Ortiz investigation has been going back to last year.
- 45:40I will never. Understand.
- 45:41I can't believe everything on social media.
- 45:43No, of course not quote and quote Abraham Lincoln, but
- 45:48that's interesting. Right, And you know, like I
- 45:54understand how how pervasive sports betting is now.
- 45:58I've been saying since since it started becoming legal and and
- 46:02becoming promoted by major. League Baseball, right?
- 46:05This announcement is brought to you by DraftKings.
- 46:07This is, this is not smart. Like I, I know people love their
- 46:11gambling, but like this is, this is not going to have a good
- 46:13outcome. And I'm not saying that's solely
- 46:16the reason these things are happening, but you can't, let's
- 46:18not pretend like this, this has no impact or influence on what's
- 46:21happening with some of these guys.
- 46:22Like the fact that it's just in your face constantly.
- 46:24I'm going to go ahead and say that has something to do with
- 46:26it. With that said though, I
- 46:30understand how how pervasive it is, like I was saying.
- 46:32However, what I don't understand is how some of these guys make
- 46:39the decisions that they do to place themselves in the
- 46:41situation that they do given the money they make.
- 46:45Yeah. Is this just a situation of like
- 46:47trying to double down, push the envelope?
- 46:50A little bit, do you? Need it?
- 46:51I don't think so. Do you need it?
- 46:55You know, I don't think I do. What did they make this year?
- 47:04What? League minimum is $700,000.
- 47:11No league. The league minimum's bumped up
- 47:13now, wasn't it? I thought it was like 77750 now.
- 47:19Emmanuel Cose signed A5 year, five year $20 million contract.
- 47:28BRO is not hurting for money. We.
- 47:31Need we need a We need a first pitch ball prop.
- 47:36Yeah, that's tough. Payout. 740 league minimum.
- 47:44Dog. I don't get it.
- 47:49I don't get it. Ortiz.
- 47:51Yeah. Ortiz, Yeah.
- 47:52League minimum. And like it still, I'm not, I'm
- 47:56not trying to bring like a, a weird argument to this, but
- 48:00like, especially where they're from, like like if we're just
- 48:06going to talk flat out, these guys are from some horrible
- 48:10situations in 3rd world countries where they have family
- 48:15members in neighborhoods that are like relying on them.
- 48:23Like what are we doing? This is you're living the dream.
- 48:28You're living the dream and you're throwing it away for
- 48:31this. It's tough, man.
- 48:35Look, Luis Ortiz, I didn't rock the boat that much Class A saves
- 48:44leader last year. Oh it was he finished what,
- 48:47second? Second in the Cy Young voting
- 48:50like 2 years ago? Or was it last still?
- 48:54Like what are we talking like decisions, decisions are being
- 48:58made? Doing that are like destroying
- 49:02careers that it it blows my mind I.
- 49:05What? I understand I'm not in these
- 49:07situations, so it's easy for me to sit back, but I'm like I, I,
- 49:11I have to imagine that I, I wouldn't be enticed by fixing a
- 49:18bet when I'm making that kind of money.
- 49:21I don't know, whatever maybe and easy for me to say, I guess I.
- 49:25Suppose. I suppose last thing here, we
- 49:28got the the entrance. The entrance for Duran made its
- 49:40way from Minnesota to Philly. And I have to say, I hadn't
- 49:47considered that that taking place in October was a
- 49:53possibility until like yesterday.
- 49:56And I'm very much excited for that possibility.
- 50:01Hot take, I'm out on entrances. Are they watered?
- 50:09Have we gotten to the point where they're watered down to
- 50:12the point that like some guys have them that shouldn't?
- 50:14Yes. But we've been saying that for
- 50:16some time now. So I've just, I've, I've chosen
- 50:19to focus on the positives and appreciate the ones that I think
- 50:24are deserving and are of high quality.
- 50:27And I think this is one of those cases because he is very good at
- 50:30what he does and the entrance is also very good.
- 50:34I'm going on the negative here. I'm not surprised.
- 50:38I woke up early this morning, I got a headache.
- 50:41I didn't have enough water today.
- 50:44I'm feeling negative. I'm out on entrances.
- 50:48Maybe don't need a glass of water.
- 50:50I just don't need them, they're not that good.
- 50:54I mean, this is coming. Threshold of the amount of saves
- 50:56you need to have in your career There's.
- 50:58A literal guy on your wall behind you.
- 51:01That had that is the best entrance.
- 51:04If not the best entrance in all of baseball, and you're telling
- 51:08me that you don't, you don't need entrances.
- 51:10That's the last one that should have been had until you're
- 51:17starting to stir up that conversation.
- 51:19Until you're the greatest closer of all time, you can't have you
- 51:23can't have an entrance. I need you over.
- 51:27I need you over 150 saves in your career.
- 51:30Before you get the entrance, get Rob on the horn. 150 to 200.
- 51:35That's where I'll put you at. That's the threshold for me.
- 51:37Otherwise, just jog in like every other pitcher.
- 51:42It's nice you got your music on. It's.
- 51:43Less about it's fine. It's less about the pitcher and
- 51:48more about the fans. That's that's fine, that's
- 51:52obvious. That's fine, that's fine.
- 51:55Just do it for every 9th inning then.
- 51:57But hey, I I'll hear you out. I've heard, I've heard your
- 52:00take. Your take has been heard.
- 52:01It's been received. Thank you.
- 52:04That's all we got. Let's.
- 52:11Is your is your time at the beach today done or are you
- 52:14going back? Nope, it's over.
- 52:16It's it's going to be time to to grub out here in just a minute,
- 52:19so. Are you walking distance to the
- 52:22beach? Yeah, dude, we're.
- 52:25Are you on the beach? No, but this is the closest
- 52:28we've ever been and it's fantastic.
- 52:32Do you have sand everywhere? Not yet, but probably in a
- 52:36couple. Just got there yesterday,
- 52:38Friday, yeah. Yesterday.
- 52:40For a week. For a week.
- 52:43A lot of sand. Potential for a lot of sand.
- 52:48Good boardwalk ice cream? Is that in the?
- 52:51Is that in the cards? Ice cream is in the cards.
- 52:54Big. We're big, big cookout tradition
- 52:57down here. We we make our make our visits
- 52:59to cookout for for some shakes. So what's that cherry wine?
- 53:02Is that what it is? Cheer wine.
- 53:05That's the solar wine. But that's not a shake.
- 53:07That's not a shake, no. All right, good stuff.
- 53:11Well, good luck with that. I'm going to go get in the pool.
- 53:16Good luck with that, Sir. Read the hat.
- 53:20Don't go chasing curveballs. We love you all and as always,
- 53:22looking forward to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 53:24Until next time, stay filthy.
