- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode one thirty one of
- 0:19Speaker 1: Cards and Categories. I am Mike Coolard and I am
- 0:22Speaker 1: joined once again by Jeremy Brewer of Rasball. He's back,
- 0:26Speaker 1: baby from his trip. How are you doing tonight, buddy?
- 0:29Speaker 2: I am doing fantastic. Thank you for allowing me to
- 0:32Speaker 2: take some PTO from the from the podcast.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Narrative in your Rassball PTO bank though, so we're gonna
- 0:38Speaker 1: have to take out of your bonus.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's gonna be gonna be rough, but I'll
- 0:42Speaker 2: I'm sure I can build it back up over the
- 0:43Speaker 2: next sixteen to seventeen years. So, but glad to be back,
- 0:47Speaker 2: Glad to be talking. And we got we got baseball
- 0:50Speaker 2: being played with at WBC. We've got sunshine out there.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Let's not talk about the storms as just went through
- 0:55Speaker 2: the Midwest last night and eight inchil different types of
- 0:58Speaker 2: baseballs coming from this. But I'm excited to be talking
- 1:02Speaker 2: baseball again. And we guess another We're gonna finally finish
- 1:04Speaker 2: out are our divisional previews, and I'm I'm excited about it.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Yeah, we are wrapping today with the NL West with
- 1:11Speaker 1: Taylor Corso. So that's gonna be our main course that
- 1:14Speaker 1: it's gonna be a great conversation on all of the
- 1:19Speaker 1: NL West teams because I think there's a lot of
- 1:21Speaker 1: intriguing fantasy prospects from all of the rosters just because
- 1:27Speaker 1: of you got teams and Flux and super teams. So
- 1:30Speaker 1: it's gonna be a fun preview. And yeah, another season
- 1:33Speaker 1: that we've wrapped up for the previews. So thanks again
- 1:36Speaker 1: to all of our guests that have been on. Let's
- 1:38Speaker 1: talk about the WBC a little bit because I mean,
- 1:41Speaker 1: how much of it have you been watching and maybe
- 1:42Speaker 1: what has stood out to you as you were recording
- 1:45Speaker 1: this on March eleventh, So we just had Italy beat
- 1:49Speaker 1: Mexico and Canada beat Cuba this afternoon, so we've got
- 1:53Speaker 1: some fun teams making into the playoff bracket. But what
- 1:57Speaker 1: has stood out to you for the WBC so far?
- 2:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the few things like Italy's looked fantastic,
- 2:03Speaker 2: which is just exciting, and you know, there's some some fun,
- 2:07Speaker 2: fun names, maybe a podcast favorite of Dominican Zone and
- 2:10Speaker 2: Vinnie Passequentino doing some cool things for Italy. But I
- 2:14Speaker 2: think the thing that just continues to stand out for
- 2:16Speaker 2: me is that Japanese team like they just I think
- 2:20Speaker 2: they're gonna be unbeatable. They just look so strong pitching, hitting,
- 2:25Speaker 2: Like the depth there I was, I'm still amused with,
- 2:29Speaker 2: Like the MVP of the MPB last year is like
- 2:32Speaker 2: pinch hitting like half the time. Because you got all
- 2:34Speaker 2: these stars from MLB and from the Nippon Professional Baseball
- 2:38Speaker 2: League and so it's just an absolutely stacked, stacked team
- 2:42Speaker 2: and it's just fun to watch them play. So I
- 2:45Speaker 2: think it's gonna be some fireworks as we get into
- 2:46Speaker 2: these later rounds here. I won't ask Mark Durosa his
- 2:50Speaker 2: thoughts because I don't think he's quite sure how this
- 2:52Speaker 2: thing works, but it's it's still been fun. So what
- 2:56Speaker 2: stood out for you?
- 2:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean you can't talk enough. I think about
- 3:01Speaker 1: Team Italy between just like the way that they're blowing
- 3:04Speaker 1: through teams. I mean, Vinnie pas Quentino looks like he's
- 3:07Speaker 1: about to have a career year captaining this Team Italy,
- 3:10Speaker 1: and I mean, well, that's if his heart doesn't give
- 3:13Speaker 1: out from all the espresso shots that he's been hitting
- 3:15Speaker 1: from After you hit a home run, that's their celebration
- 3:18Speaker 1: is to rip a shot an espresso in the dugout
- 3:22Speaker 1: which is great that like the Italians, even though they're
- 3:25Speaker 1: all American, that like they're leaning into all all the
- 3:28Speaker 1: Italy nois that I love that. If you are looking
- 3:32Speaker 1: for a little bit more WBC Talk, tune into last
- 3:35Speaker 1: week's pod with Kirie Oler from Fangrass. We did a
- 3:39Speaker 1: great preview. Her preview series has honestly been the best
- 3:42Speaker 1: that's been out there in terms of just most entertaining reads.
- 3:45Speaker 1: And I still she picked the Dominican Republic to win
- 3:50Speaker 1: it all, and I think there's still probably the team
- 3:52Speaker 1: to beat for me, because the lineup is crazy good
- 3:55Speaker 1: and that bullpen is just lights out. It is a
- 3:59Speaker 1: fire breathing bullpen where they've actually done it tonight against
- 4:03Speaker 1: Venezuela where Sieni al Contra didn't have his a game
- 4:06Speaker 1: out the gate, and then they just have been rolling
- 4:08Speaker 1: out these relievers and shutting down the entire Venezuelan offense.
- 4:12Speaker 1: So I think as long as they can lean on
- 4:14Speaker 1: that bullpen for the Dominican Republic, they can just let
- 4:17Speaker 1: that offense cook and they're gonna, i think, breeze through
- 4:21Speaker 1: a lot of teams that obviously the Japanese team is
- 4:24Speaker 1: gonna be their their biggest foe, I think because one
- 4:27Speaker 1: of the biggest flaws I think we saw that I
- 4:30Speaker 1: think that I expected for America was Mark de Rosa,
- 4:33Speaker 1: And it's funny that that reared its ugly head on
- 4:36Speaker 1: top of like they just don't seem to have the
- 4:39Speaker 1: same life playing that some of these other teams do.
- 4:42Speaker 1: And I don't know, it's a combination tightness slash like
- 4:46Speaker 1: the pitching also seems like they're just getting warmed up
- 4:49Speaker 1: and treating them like spring training. That until Timusa starts
- 4:53Speaker 1: playing like their hair is on fire the way the Dominican,
- 4:57Speaker 1: Puerto Rico, Canada, Italy have and actually like really play
- 5:02Speaker 1: with a big passion. I just don't know if they're
- 5:04Speaker 1: gonna get over that hump.
- 5:05Speaker 2: I think you're right, Like there is something to said
- 5:07Speaker 2: about the WBC, like these other countries treat it like
- 5:11Speaker 2: the Olympics or you know, their super Bowl or what
- 5:13Speaker 2: do you want to call it, Like they are hyped,
- 5:15Speaker 2: They're in there going uh, their pitchers are going deeper
- 5:19Speaker 2: into games like they they they It feels like the
- 5:22Speaker 2: US is like playing the insurance game, like let's not
- 5:25Speaker 2: get hurt, uh, because we don't want to have to
- 5:27Speaker 2: talk about it, and you know, go back to spring trainings.
- 5:30Speaker 2: We gotta be healthy. I mean, let's let's be frank.
- 5:33Speaker 2: What Treik's Google is not gonna pitch because he doesn't
- 5:37Speaker 2: want to risk his contract and kudos, I get it,
- 5:39Speaker 2: Like Detroit doesn't offer you an extension in the offseason
- 5:43Speaker 2: when you're you know, raining site, raining raining site, young winner,
- 5:47Speaker 2: like it's it. There's a lot of stake for this
- 5:51Speaker 2: those guys of the US team from a contract injury perspective,
- 5:55Speaker 2: so they feel like they're playing a little scared. But hey,
- 5:57Speaker 2: well we'll see if they advanced, thanks thank you to Italy,
- 6:01Speaker 2: and we'll see what they can do the next round.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, Well, let's get into some news the notes
- 6:06Speaker 1: to cover us before we get into that NL West preview.
- 6:10Speaker 1: So let's start with some of the bad news first.
- 6:12Speaker 1: The biggest piece of news we have was Jerks and
- 6:14Speaker 1: Profar going down with another ped suspension this year out
- 6:19Speaker 1: for the entire year, actually a separate drug that he
- 6:23Speaker 1: was caught for this time. So I don't even know
- 6:26Speaker 1: if there's really too much to talk about from a
- 6:27Speaker 1: fantasy perspective for Profar, because I think he's cooked that,
- 6:31Speaker 1: like obviously you lost all of twenty twenty six. I
- 6:34Speaker 1: don't think that there's much viability going into twenty twenty
- 6:37Speaker 1: seven because he will be turning thirty four next February.
- 6:42Speaker 1: He does still have one year left with the Braves,
- 6:44Speaker 1: But that twenty twenty four season with the Padres, when
- 6:50Speaker 1: he hit twenty four bombs and had a one thirty
- 6:52Speaker 1: nine WRC plus looks hella suspect now in retrospect that like,
- 6:58Speaker 1: I don't know if we're ever going to see that
- 7:00Speaker 1: jerks and Profar again, And so obviously I think I'm
- 7:04Speaker 1: totally out on him going forward. Anything you want to
- 7:07Speaker 1: add on Profar here.
- 7:08Speaker 2: No, it's the same thing to your point, like it
- 7:11Speaker 2: just puts any success the profile has had into question,
- 7:13Speaker 2: Like this will sound bad, but like the guys that
- 7:16Speaker 2: have one suspension, you'll be like, oh, did this something
- 7:20Speaker 2: happen like bad doctor directions, didn't understand what they were
- 7:25Speaker 2: taking things like that, like you hit two strikes and
- 7:28Speaker 2: like you can't there's not an excuse here, like even
- 7:32Speaker 2: change what it was. Like you like, if this happens
- 7:36Speaker 2: in your like stand up and it was truly mistake,
- 7:38Speaker 2: it will not happen again because you will have like
- 7:40Speaker 2: five doctors like checking what you're doing. You're gonna have
- 7:43Speaker 2: like you know, you're gonna be having your own testing
- 7:45Speaker 2: going on, like you're not gonna make the mistake because
- 7:48Speaker 2: like it's your livelihood. In Profar, it seems like he
- 7:53Speaker 2: was he was propping things up, which is I still
- 7:56Speaker 2: understand he had a good contract, So what are you
- 7:58Speaker 2: trying to do here? But it's he's off, He's off
- 8:02Speaker 2: the radar this year, next year, indefinitely.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Well, so let's focus maybe on the Braves lineup a
- 8:09Speaker 1: little bit here, because I think that's where the intrigue
- 8:11Speaker 1: actually comes through. It's a it's a funny roster too,
- 8:14Speaker 1: because they're trying to avoid getting into that tax apron
- 8:18Speaker 1: and not bring anybody else aboard. But what that also
- 8:21Speaker 1: means is that they have Dominic Smith slated to beat
- 8:23Speaker 1: their opening day d H right now, who is projective
- 8:26Speaker 1: for a ninety one WRC plus. So we'll see if
- 8:30Speaker 1: that holds. I mean, I wonder if there's also a
- 8:32Speaker 1: factor of like they could get a salary relief on
- 8:36Speaker 1: the the aprons with PROFAR or something that that is
- 8:40Speaker 1: strange that there isn't some sort of relief mechanism where
- 8:45Speaker 1: if you're getting a total zero this guy and you're
- 8:47Speaker 1: not paying him a salary, why is it count against
- 8:49Speaker 1: your going into your tax hit. But that's maybe a
- 8:53Speaker 1: CBA negotiation thing. Mostly, I want to talk about this
- 8:56Speaker 1: because your boy, Mike us Stremsky, he is I just
- 9:01Speaker 1: drafted him in TGFBI because I think he's going to
- 9:04Speaker 1: get some action gets lefties. There's no reason for him
- 9:07Speaker 1: not to given the rest of this lineup. He is
- 9:10Speaker 1: also absolutely on fire this spring. So talk of Mike
- 9:15Speaker 1: swim See a little bit more because I'm liking him
- 9:18Speaker 1: more and more with this profar suspension in giving the
- 9:21Speaker 1: pathway to Big Mike here in twenty twenty six.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Yeah, Like we talked about it earlier in the offseason,
- 9:27Speaker 2: he made a notable change when he went to Kansas
- 9:29Speaker 2: City as far as his plate approach to the plate,
- 9:32Speaker 2: he's picking out the right pitches to swing at, and
- 9:35Speaker 2: ever since he did that, he is just mashing. He
- 9:38Speaker 2: is absolutely hammering the ball, and like that's one of
- 9:42Speaker 2: the things like we always thought that was in there,
- 9:44Speaker 2: and when he just decided to hit the right pitches
- 9:47Speaker 2: and he just seems like, oh well, I figured something out.
- 9:50Speaker 2: It's not like he changed his swing and so now
- 9:52Speaker 2: he's doing it in spring training, the Braves paid him,
- 9:54Speaker 2: saying they expected that he would continue to do it.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Like all the.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Arrows are port in the right direction, Like y Stromsky's
- 10:00Speaker 2: gonna have some value this year. Nobody's gonna see it coming.
- 10:04Speaker 2: And if it's like, I'm not gonna be surprised if
- 10:07Speaker 2: Mike Stromsky, you know, kind of has a career year
- 10:09Speaker 2: here with like a twenty five homer, two fifty season
- 10:12Speaker 2: with you know, ninety RBI's or something like that. I'm
- 10:15Speaker 2: I don't think it's out of the question. Yeah, he's
- 10:17Speaker 2: got the platoon risk, but I mean there's not a
- 10:19Speaker 2: whole lot else in this lineup on that bench to
- 10:22Speaker 2: to say don't don't give it a shot. So I
- 10:26Speaker 2: I think he's a big beneficiary here because he's gonna
- 10:29Speaker 2: he should be playing every day.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and a great home park for left handed batters too.
- 10:33Speaker 1: So do you not sleep on Mike grim whoa Mike
- 10:38Speaker 1: Yastrimsky for this year? I got there, and don't make
- 10:41Speaker 1: me spell it, but uh I can barely stumble through
- 10:44Speaker 1: saying it. Okay, next piece of news we have is
- 10:47Speaker 1: an injury for starting pitcher Hunter Green of the Cincinnati
- 10:51Speaker 1: Reds gonna be out through July as he had bone
- 10:55Speaker 1: chips removed from his right elbow this week. It was
- 10:58Speaker 1: kind of a weird situation in terms of getting us
- 11:01Speaker 1: to this point because Green underwent and MRI or said
- 11:07Speaker 1: he was going to go under an MRI, and he
- 11:10Speaker 1: was like, I don't have any UCL damage. It's like, okay, bro,
- 11:13Speaker 1: Like maybe like you probably do be but the fact
- 11:18Speaker 1: that you were saying that and declaring it before the
- 11:20Speaker 1: MRI is really strange and very I mean, that is
- 11:24Speaker 1: just Icarus incarnate as a starting pitcher, because this is
- 11:28Speaker 1: a guy who pumps it up there at ninety nine
- 11:30Speaker 1: miles an hour, sits at ninety nine and like if
- 11:33Speaker 1: you recall from last year, I believe it was where
- 11:36Speaker 1: there was especially the big stretch of all the pictures
- 11:40Speaker 1: who were the top hardest throwing pictures going down TJ
- 11:44Speaker 1: after TJ after TJ from twenty four and twenty five.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Hunter Green was like the lone guy who was still
- 11:49Speaker 1: hanging out at the top of that list, amongst like
- 11:52Speaker 1: Spencer Strider, Garrett Cole Gram players like that. Uri Perez
- 11:57Speaker 1: I think was on that list too, and Somehowhunter Green
- 12:00Speaker 1: had avoided it, but now we've got these bone chips
- 12:02Speaker 1: on top of Like there's still some worry I think
- 12:06Speaker 1: about the UCL here with Hunter Green, even though the
- 12:09Speaker 1: MRI said it was clean, Like I don't know, like
- 12:12Speaker 1: there were a lot of other indicators that things were
- 12:15Speaker 1: going awry before this last year. Only through one hundred
- 12:18Speaker 1: and seven and two thirds innings this year, not going
- 12:21Speaker 1: to be back till July. I know you're mister injured pitcher,
- 12:24Speaker 1: but is this one you're still might be avoiding.
- 12:28Speaker 2: I'm probably on the fence with this one, just because
- 12:31Speaker 2: I think it's the price is gonna be so gushed
- 12:34Speaker 2: on low, and like if there's an injury to come
- 12:36Speaker 2: back from. From a picture perspective, I'm not as worried about.
- 12:39Speaker 2: This isn't a shoulder, This isn't a UCL. It's a
- 12:42Speaker 2: more of a discomfort thing which is going to cause
- 12:44Speaker 2: pain and and really kind of it's gonna maybe decrease
- 12:48Speaker 2: a little of your effectiveness. But pictures have pitched through
- 12:51Speaker 2: these kinds of things, and so it's just it got
- 12:53Speaker 2: to the point where you just can't couldn't deal with it,
- 12:56Speaker 2: and it became too much, and so I think that
- 12:58Speaker 2: he he him come back. How effective he's gonna be
- 13:02Speaker 2: at the end of the season, I don't know, But like,
- 13:03Speaker 2: if you look at what he does from a rate
- 13:05Speaker 2: basis when he's pitching, it's phenomenal. And so like I
- 13:08Speaker 2: think this is a dynasty buy. I'm not as worried
- 13:11Speaker 2: about the UCL Like at least we have the report
- 13:13Speaker 2: saying it's not damaged and I'm just gonna have to
- 13:16Speaker 2: trust the doctors on that one. But you know, he's
- 13:19Speaker 2: a guy that he's still young. He throws one hundred
- 13:23Speaker 2: mile an hour, his control got better last season, Like
- 13:27Speaker 2: all these indicators are good things, and he's somehow a
- 13:30Speaker 2: tamed great American ballpark ut there in Cincinnati. So I
- 13:34Speaker 2: look at it as a general buy situation. But because
- 13:37Speaker 2: for a single season, he's an interesting like after the
- 13:40Speaker 2: draft il stash, and from a long term perspective, if
- 13:45Speaker 2: you can get him cheap in a dynasty, you're looking
- 13:47Speaker 2: at a guy that has ace potential that you're anchoring on.
- 13:51Speaker 2: So if you're doing surgery, if you're trying to come back,
- 13:55Speaker 2: like this is the kind of thing that I'm least
- 13:56Speaker 2: concerned of. From a pitching perspective.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Okay, let's move on to the next injury where we
- 14:03Speaker 1: have Josh Hater has been announced that he's going to
- 14:06Speaker 1: start the season on the IL for the Houston Astros,
- 14:09Speaker 1: where he is battling bicep inflammation and tenderness right now
- 14:14Speaker 1: in his left arm, which also not a great kind
- 14:17Speaker 1: of like thing to be dealing with. That is another
- 14:20Speaker 1: kind of streaming indicator for Tommy John surgery. I think
- 14:23Speaker 1: what makes this even more concerning is he ended this
- 14:26Speaker 1: season hurt last year, but it was a shoulder injury
- 14:29Speaker 1: and had all off season to really work through any
- 14:33Speaker 1: kinks to get back from that and wasn't able to
- 14:36Speaker 1: do it. So this is another guy who throws super
- 14:39Speaker 1: hard honestly, has always had a funky motion too, So
- 14:42Speaker 1: I'm honestly kind of surprised he's made it as long
- 14:46Speaker 1: as he has without running into significant injury issues. You know,
- 14:50Speaker 1: he started back in twenty seventeen and has gotten to
- 14:53Speaker 1: this point. This one I am really worried about, honestly, because,
- 14:57Speaker 1: like I think Green, I can see your situe what
- 15:01Speaker 1: you were saying, and like get more on board there.
- 15:04Speaker 1: But with with Josh Hater, you're looking at a situation
- 15:07Speaker 1: where it didn't end twenty twenty five healthy, didn't get
- 15:11Speaker 1: healthy all off season apparently, or injured himself trying to
- 15:15Speaker 1: work his way back, and now the kinetic chain is
- 15:18Speaker 1: all jacked up, and on top of it, the Astros
- 15:22Speaker 1: have him signed through twenty twenty eight, so there's not
- 15:24Speaker 1: like a huge incentive, so I think really push him
- 15:28Speaker 1: back as hard as they can because this team is
- 15:30Speaker 1: also I don't know, it's a little bit on like
- 15:32Speaker 1: the border of the wild card. But what's not going
- 15:35Speaker 1: to hold him back? It's not their bullpen because Brian
- 15:37Speaker 1: and bray you has got to be jumping up into
- 15:40Speaker 1: top ten closer territory right now for like the first
- 15:44Speaker 1: month at least. But like I said, I think Hater
- 15:47Speaker 1: might be out for a decent length of twenty twenty six.
- 15:51Speaker 1: What do you think and what are you seeing in
- 15:53Speaker 1: terms of the way the chips are falling here in Houston?
- 15:57Speaker 2: Yeah, so little known facts on this podcast of my
- 15:59Speaker 2: base history career. I have no capsule on my shoulder
- 16:03Speaker 2: from after I tore a labor and rotator cuff and
- 16:06Speaker 2: they went in there like, eh, that thing's so far gone,
- 16:08Speaker 2: it's useless and so that that capsule recovery is a
- 16:15Speaker 2: lot longer and harder than I think people realize because
- 16:18Speaker 2: that's kind of what you know, protects all the joints
- 16:21Speaker 2: from rubbing against each other. And since he's been slowed
- 16:25Speaker 2: by it, and generally those those capsules can take like
- 16:28Speaker 2: a year to really truly recover, and I it seems
- 16:32Speaker 2: like he tried to come back too soon, ended up
- 16:34Speaker 2: in other scenario issues. It's still Josh Hater, so like
- 16:38Speaker 2: you can't completely be out. But they have a great,
- 16:42Speaker 2: great alternative and Brian and Brave, so it's it's hard
- 16:45Speaker 2: to really invest in in Hater at this point. So
- 16:50Speaker 2: he's gonna go for a discount. They seem to be
- 16:52Speaker 2: calling that he's going to be back not too far,
- 16:54Speaker 2: but like I have a lot less confidence in this.
- 16:58Speaker 2: You know, he's got like one bullpen sessions, so like
- 17:00Speaker 2: it's I think he's a way's way and based on
- 17:03Speaker 2: the big contracts, like they have to wait for him
- 17:05Speaker 2: to be fully fully healthy because if not, we're gonna
- 17:08Speaker 2: be in a situation where he's having surgery in may
- 17:12Speaker 2: An that he's out for the whole season. So like
- 17:13Speaker 2: I think they're gonna they're gonna you know, really wait
- 17:16Speaker 2: the time here, So Hater massive talent, big arrow up
- 17:20Speaker 2: for Brian Brady.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Yeah. It also strikes me that like Houston could stumble
- 17:25Speaker 1: out of the gate because like, honestly, that pitching staff
- 17:28Speaker 1: is pretty suspect and they don't have any corner outfielders.
- 17:32Speaker 1: They just forgot to put together an outfield like that,
- 17:36Speaker 1: like you.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Say about little Berffedo, Joey, little Perfido.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Yeah, they picked up because they were salary dumping Hayesu
- 17:43Speaker 1: Sanchez like that. There's a decent chance that, you know,
- 17:48Speaker 1: if they're falling out of the race pretty far by
- 17:51Speaker 1: May and things are not looking great, they might just
- 17:54Speaker 1: shut Hater down. So there's a lot of things I
- 17:57Speaker 1: think going against Hater that, especially when you're looking at
- 17:59Speaker 1: the draft cost and if people are a little more
- 18:03Speaker 1: hopeful on what he could bring back. I think in
- 18:06Speaker 1: every league you're going to find somebody who is or
- 18:08Speaker 1: two or three. It's not gonna end well, I think,
- 18:12Speaker 1: And so there's lots of different other rats to go.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Closes are already expensive. Don't spend it on an injured one. Okay,
- 18:20Speaker 1: last injury we've got This one just happened recently last night,
- 18:24Speaker 1: actually Kyle Teal blew out his hamstring for Team Italy.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Was having a pretty solid WBC through seven played appearances,
- 18:32Speaker 1: popped a homer, popped a double, and was really a
- 18:35Speaker 1: part of the vibe of Team Italy helping putting it
- 18:38Speaker 1: all together. Was slated to be in a starting role
- 18:41Speaker 1: for the Chicago White Sox, but going to be out
- 18:43Speaker 1: four to six weeks with this injured hammy, and certainly
- 18:47Speaker 1: a big blow to people who'd been drafting him as
- 18:49Speaker 1: like a solid number one. I think he's probably like
- 18:52Speaker 1: one of the last number one catchers I would consider,
- 18:55Speaker 1: you know, kind of on that ten to twelve border
- 18:57Speaker 1: in terms of top catchers. Turn all the attention in
- 19:02Speaker 1: Chicago to Edgar Carrol. So I think if you're looking
- 19:05Speaker 1: for somebody to start the season with and you're in
- 19:07Speaker 1: a two catcher format, can't go wrong with Edgar Carroll
- 19:09Speaker 1: getting at bats every day. It's not going to be
- 19:11Speaker 1: any power, but like you'll get a decent batting average
- 19:14Speaker 1: and volume. So good, good way to go. But what
- 19:18Speaker 1: do you think twenty twenty six could hold for Teal?
- 19:20Speaker 1: Especially because you are dealing with a soft tissue injury.
- 19:23Speaker 1: It looked pretty significant and it is a grade two
- 19:26Speaker 1: hand string strain as well as like the White Sox,
- 19:29Speaker 1: this is one of their key core pieces for their
- 19:32Speaker 1: young future. Might not be too willing to rush them
- 19:35Speaker 1: through this season.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you have to look at them coming
- 19:38Speaker 2: back probably more in May than the April time frame,
- 19:40Speaker 2: which is kind of where they're kind of pushing put
- 19:42Speaker 2: in right now. I'm actually looking at it as like
- 19:44Speaker 2: a opportunity to get what you said as the number
- 19:46Speaker 2: one is the number two in those scenarios, because like
- 19:50Speaker 2: the catcher is oddly deep, like even for two catcher leads,
- 19:55Speaker 2: there's plenty there. So if you need to if you're
- 19:57Speaker 2: taking Teal as your number two, and and you know
- 20:00Speaker 2: limp and by until May June timeframe, and then you've
- 20:03Speaker 2: got now a guy that's arguably a number one. He's
- 20:06Speaker 2: gonna run a little bit, he's gonna have some no
- 20:07Speaker 2: power and hit for average. Like I think Kyle Teal's
- 20:10Speaker 2: got a really big up arrow. We just got to
- 20:11Speaker 2: wait for him to get healthy, and the White Sox
- 20:12Speaker 2: should do the same. I don't think Whero's gonna be
- 20:14Speaker 2: like the keeps him out of the lineup necessarily and
- 20:18Speaker 2: so I think he has a chance to come back here.
- 20:20Speaker 2: But this is a big blow because he should have
- 20:22Speaker 2: had a full run and he looked pretty gush dar
- 20:25Speaker 2: and mature at the plate last year.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, let's get into some transactions that have happened
- 20:31Speaker 1: since we last talked. So first we've got the Blue
- 20:34Speaker 1: Jays bringing back Max Scherzer on a one new year deal,
- 20:37Speaker 1: and so he was useful for a decent stretch of
- 20:41Speaker 1: last year. Don't look at that if you cut out
- 20:44Speaker 1: that like one blip of a huge seven run blow
- 20:50Speaker 1: up against the Royals in two thirds inning back in
- 20:53Speaker 1: mid September that happened down the stretch in the second half,
- 20:56Speaker 1: like he was a round four e R and eight
- 21:01Speaker 1: and a half K nine guy. Like, it's pretty solid
- 21:04Speaker 1: for being free, So should be in the back end
- 21:08Speaker 1: of the rotation for Toronto. Might not make the first
- 21:10Speaker 1: turn through the rotation as he gets ramped up in spring,
- 21:13Speaker 1: but someone you're willing to throw a dart on in
- 21:16Speaker 1: super late leagues just to get some of the Max
- 21:19Speaker 1: stures of magic.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I think if there's like the guys from an
- 21:23Speaker 2: aging perspective, like mad Max is one of those guys
- 21:26Speaker 2: that like, I just don't think you ever want to
- 21:28Speaker 2: bet against and I guess like him and Verlinder and
- 21:32Speaker 2: kind of in that range, but even Max, I think
- 21:34Speaker 2: more than than Verlander that The only thing that gives
- 21:37Speaker 2: me pause is like the Blue Jays like are trying
- 21:39Speaker 2: to like put together a stable of like how many
- 21:44Speaker 2: mid level potential ACE pictures can I have? Like if
- 21:47Speaker 2: you look through this rotation is like Gosman, he's shown
- 21:51Speaker 2: ace before cease, shown ace before burials, shown ace before punce.
- 21:55Speaker 2: He was an ACE over in Japan. Sureser absolutely a
- 21:59Speaker 2: for you, Savage. We hope he's an ACE, don't forget
- 22:01Speaker 2: we have Shane Bieber hurt. He's He's like, well, they're
- 22:03Speaker 2: just gonna like throw all these guys and then hope
- 22:05Speaker 2: like they end up with like two aces or something like.
- 22:07Speaker 2: I'm not quite sure what the plan is. And so
- 22:09Speaker 2: that's the only thing that's got me a little drawn
- 22:11Speaker 2: back here is like, there are they gonna run a
- 22:13Speaker 2: seven man rotation this year? I'm not quite sure what
- 22:16Speaker 2: they're gonna do. Now. I think almost everybody just listened
- 22:19Speaker 2: off has injury issues too, So I think it'll sort
- 22:22Speaker 2: itself out pretty pretty gushdurn easily, but uh yeah, I don't.
- 22:25Speaker 2: I don't want to bet against Max, And I think
- 22:28Speaker 2: he's like oddly into like the Nathany Valdi territory now,
- 22:32Speaker 2: or like if you look at the metrics, like he's
- 22:34Speaker 2: still pretty gushed ourn solid and he's just gonna get
- 22:37Speaker 2: this kind of he's the old Vet kind of thing
- 22:39Speaker 2: going on. So I kinda I kind of like Sures
- 22:43Speaker 2: are still.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, And I mean I think the other factor
- 22:47Speaker 1: here is that for all those Blue Jays, like young
- 22:50Speaker 1: pitchers and even punks like coming back from KBO and
- 22:54Speaker 1: reintegrating himself into major League Baseball, Max Sures is like
- 22:59Speaker 1: a second pitching coach. So like we've kind of outlined
- 23:02Speaker 1: this as Verlander has bounced around too, that it is
- 23:05Speaker 1: a little bit of an up arrow I give to
- 23:07Speaker 1: the rest of that rotation, just having Chures are around
- 23:09Speaker 1: to be able to bounce ideas off and kind of
- 23:12Speaker 1: learn the art of pitching the way that Schurezer has
- 23:14Speaker 1: done it over the years. That it's it's something that
- 23:17Speaker 1: you can't quite teach like without having like that first
- 23:22Speaker 1: hand experience and kind of seeing it in action in
- 23:24Speaker 1: the day and day out, and so that gives me
- 23:27Speaker 1: a little hope for like Trey A. Savage going forward
- 23:29Speaker 1: and maybe being able to hold that astom that he
- 23:32Speaker 1: kind of broke out into last year. Okay, next transaction
- 23:36Speaker 1: we have is outfielders Starling Martaes signing a one year
- 23:39Speaker 1: deal with the Kansas City Royals. And I mean last
- 23:43Speaker 1: year age thirty six, So he did turn thirty seven
- 23:48Speaker 1: last October. It was only ninety eight games, but he
- 23:52Speaker 1: was solid when he was in there. It was a
- 23:54Speaker 1: one to twelve WRC plus with nine homers and seven
- 23:57Speaker 1: stolen bases for the Mets, but battled Bawckie knee all
- 24:01Speaker 1: year and just kind of fell out of the rotation
- 24:03Speaker 1: because of that where it was only one ile stint
- 24:07Speaker 1: last year. But like there were a lot of like
- 24:10Speaker 1: day to day things that Marte was out for and
- 24:13Speaker 1: just couldn't string together games.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Mostly.
- 24:16Speaker 1: I'm bringing this up because kind of like Houston, the
- 24:19Speaker 1: Kansas City outfield is a bit of a disaster across
- 24:22Speaker 1: the board. Like you've got Kaglione, who I do feel
- 24:25Speaker 1: much better about now that I've seen him in this
- 24:27Speaker 1: spring in this WBC. He does look like he also
- 24:31Speaker 1: like is ripped, like he hit the gym and like
- 24:33Speaker 1: gotten into a major league weightlifting program that I think
- 24:36Speaker 1: CAGs will be solid going into this year. But the
- 24:39Speaker 1: other two outfield spots are Isaac Collins and Kyle Isbel
- 24:42Speaker 1: So there's daylight here for starving Marte. Are you taking
- 24:46Speaker 1: any dart throws and throwing them at at Marte for
- 24:49Speaker 1: twenty twenty six?
- 24:50Speaker 2: I think Marte is that perfect waiver wire guy that
- 24:53Speaker 2: were like your or your bench outfielder of like, hey,
- 24:56Speaker 2: I'm gonna put him in there and he's not gonna
- 24:58Speaker 2: kill me, and he might be a few stats here
- 24:59Speaker 2: and there, like so he's like perfect re replacement level
- 25:03Speaker 2: and there's something to be said for that. So, like,
- 25:04Speaker 2: I think you're right, he's in a good situation. He
- 25:07Speaker 2: doesn't really hurt you anywhere. He's not going to really
- 25:09Speaker 2: win anything for you anywhere at this point in his career.
- 25:12Speaker 2: But I like him with the Royals.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think it is a little bit more
- 25:15Speaker 1: of like a watch how the Royals use him too,
- 25:18Speaker 1: because if he does start getting five or six starts
- 25:20Speaker 1: a week in that Kansas City outfield, like before you
- 25:23Speaker 1: know it, he's going to rack up ten homers and
- 25:25Speaker 1: twenty five stolen bases with a decent batting average and
- 25:28Speaker 1: actually be like a great fifth outfielder. So watch his
- 25:31Speaker 1: usage early in April, I think, to see how much
- 25:34Speaker 1: Kansas City is using Marte and that'll kind of tell
- 25:37Speaker 1: you the story of what your transaction like approach should
- 25:42Speaker 1: be with him on the wavewire. So just wanted to
- 25:45Speaker 1: put that out there. Next one is Zach Lyttel signing
- 25:48Speaker 1: with the Washington Nationals, and so he should be smack
- 25:52Speaker 1: dab in the middle of that rotation, coming off of
- 25:54Speaker 1: a season where he put up a three eighty one
- 25:57Speaker 1: RA over one hundred and eighty six and two. I
- 26:00Speaker 1: didn't really see put up one hundred and eighty six
- 26:02Speaker 1: and two thirds innings last year. That is bananas between
- 26:07Speaker 1: the Reds and the Rays. Much better with the Rays,
- 26:11Speaker 1: much worse with the Reds. Overall. It was also a
- 26:14Speaker 1: rough FIP at a four to eighty eight, but he
- 26:17Speaker 1: has been outstripping that FIP. Not to the level that
- 26:22Speaker 1: he had lived last year, but kind of has over
- 26:25Speaker 1: the past few years. Certainly a command and control guy,
- 26:28Speaker 1: but can go the volume, which is I think, honestly,
- 26:32Speaker 1: there's also more leagues that are starting to lean into
- 26:35Speaker 1: innings pitched as a category instead of wins or qs's.
- 26:38Speaker 1: So that's kind of why I'm throwing Littel out there
- 26:40Speaker 1: as well as like he goes deep enough to actually
- 26:43Speaker 1: get wins. Picked up ten wins last year for a
- 26:45Speaker 1: back end starter. Any interest in Zach Lyttel with the
- 26:49Speaker 1: Washington Nationals.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think it's a watch for me,
- 26:52Speaker 2: Like the baby plug left on base, look, doesn't strike
- 26:56Speaker 2: out enough guys and the Nationals aren't going to give
- 26:58Speaker 2: them the wins like it just it's it's not a
- 27:00Speaker 2: great recipe for success. So I've got them as a
- 27:02Speaker 2: watch at this point.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Yep, I think that's all very fair. Okay, We've got
- 27:06Speaker 1: a few updates to that baseball card release calendar that
- 27:09Speaker 1: is in the show notes. Also when you're in the
- 27:11Speaker 1: show notes, check out those rasp Ball subscriptions. I've been
- 27:15Speaker 1: just like doing work with the Warroom tool that Rudy
- 27:19Speaker 1: pumps out. It is fantastic. It is great for valuation,
- 27:23Speaker 1: keeps you on track, so that especially if you're trying
- 27:26Speaker 1: to ensure that you're hitting in all the categories and
- 27:29Speaker 1: don't want to put together your own manual tracking system.
- 27:32Speaker 1: The war Room is perfect for that, and then in
- 27:35Speaker 1: a couple of weeks time, you're going to be using
- 27:38Speaker 1: that streaminator and hitter Tron every day. So sign up
- 27:42Speaker 1: for Rasball subscriptions well worth the price of admission, and
- 27:45Speaker 1: it will definitely if you also get up to the
- 27:48Speaker 1: no ad level, well worth it. So all sorts, just
- 27:53Speaker 1: all benefits out of the Rasball subscription. There's a link
- 27:55Speaker 1: to it in the show notes. Click on it if
- 27:57Speaker 1: you want to. But when you are also in there
- 28:00Speaker 1: looking at that baseball card release calendar, you'll see, as
- 28:03Speaker 1: we're speaking today on March eleventh, it's Bowman's Best twenty
- 28:06Speaker 1: twenty five for release date, hobby only product, which it's
- 28:10Speaker 1: actually gonna be a relatively hot product because it's got
- 28:15Speaker 1: lots of good autos in it. It's got Otani autos,
- 28:17Speaker 1: it's got Kinnor Griffin, Kevin McDonald autos. Obviously they won't
- 28:23Speaker 1: be rookies or first but I think there's gonna be
- 28:25Speaker 1: a lot of Chase cards. So I don't have you
- 28:27Speaker 1: been watching the market metch much for these Bowman's Best
- 28:30Speaker 1: cards and any thoughts on the set here for twenty
- 28:33Speaker 1: twenty five that's being released three months into twenty twenty six.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's it's one of those I've actually
- 28:40Speaker 2: thrown off lot. But in these sets right now that
- 28:42Speaker 2: are twenty twenty five rookies and things like that, I
- 28:45Speaker 2: always love Bowen's Best, Like it's the the Umbfalls. It
- 28:49Speaker 2: doesn't really hold as value as much as you think
- 28:51Speaker 2: it should because the cards look beautiful most of the time.
- 28:53Speaker 2: So good checklists, good cards, but it's kind of a
- 28:58Speaker 2: tough tough sell all price points. So I'm mediocre on Best.
- 29:02Speaker 2: But if you can find in the wild take a
- 29:05Speaker 2: shot or find out card shows digging through, that's that's
- 29:08Speaker 2: a really great dollar dollar kind of set.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Yeah, And also I mean not a bad one. Probably
- 29:13Speaker 1: to get in on breaks too, if you can find
- 29:15Speaker 1: reasonably priced breaks. Just because of that auto list, it's
- 29:19Speaker 1: a pretty solid auto list for a release like this.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Obviously it's hobby only, so they're trying to also make
- 29:26Speaker 1: sure that the auto list isn't a total skunk when
- 29:29Speaker 1: you're sholling out that kind of dough. So something to
- 29:32Speaker 1: keep in mind. But the other thing in the card
- 29:34Speaker 1: calendar is Top Heritage comes out next week twenty twenty six,
- 29:39Speaker 1: on March eighteenth, so that's going to be the main
- 29:41Speaker 1: portion of our show for next week, and we'll get
- 29:44Speaker 1: more into the details of that when that comes out. Otherwise,
- 29:47Speaker 1: we've got twenty twenty five tops Transcendent on the roster
- 29:50Speaker 1: for April first, and a couple of Panini releases between
- 29:54Speaker 1: USA Baseball and Donris also coming out in April, so
- 29:57Speaker 1: check out those calendars. Check out the show notes for
- 30:01Speaker 1: everything else that we discussed here off the bat on
- 30:04Speaker 1: the news and notes section. Now we're gonna take a
- 30:06Speaker 1: little bit of a break and we'll be back to
- 30:08Speaker 1: discuss the NL West with Taylor Corso. Stick around everybody,
- 30:27Speaker 1: all right, Welcome back everybody. We are going to get
- 30:31Speaker 1: right into our NL West preview and to get into
- 30:34Speaker 1: this division, our last division here of our preview series,
- 30:37Speaker 1: we have brought back Taylor Corso from Prospects Live and
- 30:40Speaker 1: the Dynasy Baseball's Pickups Podcast. Welcome back, Taylor.
- 30:45Speaker 3: How you doing tonight, Buddy, I'm doing great. Thanks for
- 30:48Speaker 3: having me back. Guys.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it is your third time on the pod, so
- 30:51Speaker 1: you're getting up there in the pantheon of cards and
- 30:53Speaker 1: categories podcast guests. I think you're tied down for the lead.
- 30:57Speaker 1: So it's it's some rarefied air. But we have brought
- 31:01Speaker 1: you on here because you are a San Francisco Giants fan,
- 31:04Speaker 1: so you know the NL west in and out. You're
- 31:06Speaker 1: also coming to us from the West coast, so you
- 31:09Speaker 1: actually get to see all these games before you fall asleep,
- 31:13Speaker 1: and like things last past midnight one am, like all
- 31:16Speaker 1: of us folks on Central Time. So let everybody know
- 31:20Speaker 1: where they can find your work, Read your work, listen
- 31:23Speaker 1: to your podcast, and reach out to you on socials.
- 31:26Speaker 4: Yeah, you can find me over at prospectslive dot com.
- 31:29Speaker 4: I'm taking a little bit of step back from the
- 31:31Speaker 4: writing right now, but you'll occasionally catch me on different
- 31:33Speaker 4: articles there. And then the main one is the Dynasty
- 31:36Speaker 4: Baseball Pickups podcast that comes out every weekend. It's really
- 31:41Speaker 4: Dynasty focused on waiver wire, so it's you know which
- 31:44Speaker 4: players to pick up for that particular week and then
- 31:46Speaker 4: you know all the news from a Dynasty angle. So
- 31:49Speaker 4: I highly recommend anyone who plays in Dynasty League to
- 31:51Speaker 4: check it out and you can follow you know, my
- 31:55Speaker 4: posts on x It's gonna be at Dynasty Pickups and
- 31:59Speaker 4: same thing on Blue Sky Awesome.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I can't recommend your podcast Dnasty Baseball bick
- 32:04Speaker 1: Cups enough. That's I think it's one of the best
- 32:07Speaker 1: ones out there. You and Kyle do the lord's work
- 32:11Speaker 1: getting through some of the deeper names out there to
- 32:13Speaker 1: be able to put on your watch lists and kind
- 32:16Speaker 1: of stay ahead of the game. So definitely appreciate all
- 32:19Speaker 1: the work in all of the insights that you guys
- 32:21Speaker 1: provide through your podcast because it has made me a
- 32:24Speaker 1: tremendously better player since I've started listening to your podcast,
- 32:27Speaker 1: So it is one of the best ones out there.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Are we going to get prospective with any of your
- 32:32Speaker 1: buys and sells here or they? Are you focusing on
- 32:36Speaker 1: more major league players?
- 32:37Speaker 4: More major league players, but there's some that are prospectee,
- 32:41Speaker 4: I'll put it that way.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Okay, I knew you wouldn't be able to get away
- 32:44Speaker 1: from that. I knew you. So let's get right into it.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Let's get into the NL West. Let's start. If you're
- 32:50Speaker 1: not familiar with how we're running this, we go through
- 32:53Speaker 1: the division alphabetically and we are going to do one
- 32:56Speaker 1: by one sell each person from each team based on
- 32:59Speaker 1: current NF data. So I've actually I've set mine from
- 33:03Speaker 1: February first through today as we're speaking on March eleventh
- 33:07Speaker 1: here just in DC's just because that's where you're gonna
- 33:11Speaker 1: get some of the sharpest players as well as since February,
- 33:16Speaker 1: we've got quite a few drafts I think at this
- 33:18Speaker 1: point on the board. Yeah, you're looking at like two
- 33:20Speaker 1: hundred and twenty five ish drafts, So we've got a
- 33:23Speaker 1: lot of great data coming through from that. One thing
- 33:26Speaker 1: to keep in mind as we get into some of
- 33:28Speaker 1: these buys and cells, because Draft Champions is focused on
- 33:31Speaker 1: more of like a draft and hold situation, the saves
- 33:35Speaker 1: and closer prices will be a little bit inflated. But
- 33:38Speaker 1: we'll get into that when we get to some buy
- 33:41Speaker 1: buys and cells. But we've also been doing our TGFBI
- 33:44Speaker 1: squads and things like that that we've been also seeing
- 33:46Speaker 1: the other market prices on closers, and honestly, they're not
- 33:49Speaker 1: drastically different from some of these Draft Champion prices. Unfortunately.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Let's start with the Arizona Diamondbacks. They will lead us
- 33:54Speaker 1: off here in the division alphabetically first, obviously with that A,
- 33:59Speaker 1: and they are coming off a season in which it
- 34:02Speaker 1: was a mixed bag. You know, they sold at the deadline,
- 34:04Speaker 1: but still kind of got their way close to the
- 34:07Speaker 1: playoffs at eighty and eighty two, and we're in that
- 34:09Speaker 1: wild card race right down the stretch as we watched
- 34:12Speaker 1: the Mets fade away and almost hand it away to
- 34:14Speaker 1: the d Backs and your giants here, Taylor, But in
- 34:17Speaker 1: the off season picked up Noel Aronado. They've also re
- 34:22Speaker 1: added Zach Gallon coming back on a little bit less
- 34:25Speaker 1: than that qualifying offer. Michael Soroka signed to be in
- 34:29Speaker 1: the rotation. They recently picked up Paul Sewald, who hint, hint,
- 34:33Speaker 1: we covered a couple of weeks ago with Anthony Hamley,
- 34:36Speaker 1: our Zen and the Art of Fantasy Baseball Guru that
- 34:40Speaker 1: Paul Seawald is somebody who might pick us some saves.
- 34:43Speaker 1: So gonna be a fascinating team in Arizona. As they're
- 34:47Speaker 1: also working their way through alertis Guriel acl injury still,
- 34:51Speaker 1: so that's opening up a spot finally for Jordan Lawler.
- 34:55Speaker 1: And they also brought in Carlo Santana. Very smooth of them.
- 34:58Speaker 1: So Taylor, let's start with some buys. You get to
- 35:02Speaker 1: go first of the guests, who you buying based on
- 35:04Speaker 1: ADP data from the Arizona dbecs.
- 35:06Speaker 4: Yeah, it's one of the names you just mentioned, and
- 35:08Speaker 4: that's Jordan Lawler. I did some very similar ADP data.
- 35:12Speaker 4: I think I did February first through yesterday when I
- 35:15Speaker 4: was doing it, but I think he came in at
- 35:17Speaker 4: three forty three Jordan Lawler did. And you know, I'm
- 35:21Speaker 4: sure that's rising in recent months at you know, as
- 35:23Speaker 4: it looks more and more clear that he's going to
- 35:25Speaker 4: have potentially a role there on opening Day in the outfield.
- 35:29Speaker 4: You know, you look at what he's done in the
- 35:31Speaker 4: Majors so far. He's really struggled to get it going,
- 35:35Speaker 4: stuggle to find opportunities. Last year he dealt with hamstring injury.
- 35:40Speaker 4: But you look at what he did in Triple A.
- 35:44Speaker 4: In sixty three games there, he had a one twenty
- 35:46Speaker 4: nine WRC plus. It wasn't as good in the Majors.
- 35:49Speaker 4: In twenty eight games of the Majors, it was just
- 35:50Speaker 4: a fifty two w RC plus.
- 35:52Speaker 3: But you look at.
- 35:53Speaker 4: The the you know, progression of that. His first thirty
- 35:57Speaker 4: three played appearances in the Major's lastlast year, he had
- 36:00Speaker 4: a near fifty percent k rate. You know, it was
- 36:03Speaker 4: eleven games of the season. You look at what he
- 36:05Speaker 4: did in his last oh sorry, zero for thirty three
- 36:08Speaker 4: and those eleven games with the fifty percent k rate awful.
- 36:11Speaker 4: But you look at what he did his last seventeen games.
- 36:13Speaker 4: You're looking at a three thirty three, three ninety five,
- 36:15Speaker 4: twenty eight slash, a one to fifty one di orcy
- 36:17Speaker 4: plus just a twenty four point four percent strikeout. Right,
- 36:19Speaker 4: So we finally got to see the major league version
- 36:22Speaker 4: of the Jordan Lawler we all wanted to see last
- 36:24Speaker 4: year at the end. Now again, small sample, but he's
- 36:27Speaker 4: got that opportunity to win the job. In spring training
- 36:29Speaker 4: this year, has been working on learning center field. It's
- 36:34Speaker 4: sounding like he's he's going to be fine out there,
- 36:36Speaker 4: so you know this this is probably his last real opportunity.
- 36:40Speaker 4: Hopefully he can hang on to it. But so far,
- 36:42Speaker 4: I think, so good for Jordan Lawler.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and we didn't know he picked our picks beforehand,
- 36:46Speaker 1: so they're all secret. This was my buye as well too,
- 36:49Speaker 1: because the ADP it is starting to rise, as you mentioned,
- 36:52Speaker 1: but it's still pretty late. That like in my TGFBI draft,
- 36:56Speaker 1: he went quite late, and he is slated to be
- 37:00Speaker 1: the art starting center fielder there in Arizona, so he
- 37:03Speaker 1: should pick up third base and outfield eligibility really really quickly.
- 37:08Speaker 1: He's also just annihilating the ball in spring right now,
- 37:11Speaker 1: which is what you love to see with the opportunity
- 37:13Speaker 1: for homers and thirty three played appearances for a three
- 37:17Speaker 1: thirty three, four fifty five, eight to fifteen slash line.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Gotta love those Arizona spring training fall or those spring
- 37:25Speaker 1: training just ballparks and what they can do to those numbers.
- 37:28Speaker 1: The strikeout rate is great at twenty seven percent right
- 37:31Speaker 1: now in the spring, and a great eye to eighteen
- 37:34Speaker 1: point two percent. And I've watched a little bit of
- 37:37Speaker 1: him centerfield. He looks fine, So I think he's gonna stick.
- 37:40Speaker 1: I think you're looking at a pretty big breakout season
- 37:42Speaker 1: for the twenty three year old Jordan Lawler, all these
- 37:45Speaker 1: things combined. Brew what have you thought about Lawler's work
- 37:48Speaker 1: in spring training and kind of what you've seen over
- 37:50Speaker 1: the years. I know people have probably started to get
- 37:53Speaker 1: some prospect fatigue with him, but like I said, he's
- 37:55Speaker 1: only twenty three years old, so he's right in his prime. Still.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Yeah, there's prospect fatigue, but I'd say unfairly because he
- 38:02Speaker 2: hasn't really had the opportunity to actually get a run
- 38:06Speaker 2: at it. And if you look at what he's done
- 38:07Speaker 2: in the minors, yeah, he's been a solid guy. Like,
- 38:10Speaker 2: there's not a better twenty twenty maybe twenty thirty profile.
- 38:13Speaker 2: And it's one of those guys that from the speed
- 38:15Speaker 2: size thing, especially this late he's a good speed. He's
- 38:18Speaker 2: not one of those volume speed guys who just runs
- 38:20Speaker 2: until he's thrown out. Like he's he's good, he makes
- 38:23Speaker 2: good choices, very high success rates there. He's looked even
- 38:28Speaker 2: better in the spring. He's like your point, the power
- 38:31Speaker 2: is coming through more than I would expect. I thought,
- 38:33Speaker 2: you know, the power is going to be the thing
- 38:34Speaker 2: that guys takes a little more time to develop. But
- 38:36Speaker 2: that ballpark there in Arizona's not going to be too
- 38:38Speaker 2: bad for him there. So I like, I like this pick.
- 38:41Speaker 2: There's probably my one be to my one A. It's
- 38:43Speaker 2: just I have a little heart throb here on the
- 38:45Speaker 2: Diamondbacks that I like a little bit more, which cool.
- 38:47Speaker 2: You probably know who that is. But yeah, it's it's
- 38:51Speaker 2: a good pick. I have no problem with it. I
- 38:53Speaker 2: would buy Lawlor at that price because it's free and
- 38:55Speaker 2: there's a really really strong upside here.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Okay, I Actually, I don't know who your one A is,
- 39:01Speaker 1: so give it to me.
- 39:02Speaker 2: All right, So we're gonna stick with the prospect theme.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Go further down the list and give me a Ryan Waldschmidt.
- 39:08Speaker 2: I absolutely love the guy. You know, you talk about
- 39:12Speaker 2: profiles of young guys and the miners and just making
- 39:15Speaker 2: the most of it. I absolutely love a profile the
- 39:17Speaker 2: guy that walks as much as he strikes out, and
- 39:19Speaker 2: that's that's who Waldschmidt is. We're talking about last year
- 39:23Speaker 2: sixteen percent walk rating against the seventeen a half k rate,
- 39:26Speaker 2: eighteen homers, twenty nine steals. Honestly, I don't think he's
- 39:30Speaker 2: the same burner that Lawler. Is not nearly as efficient
- 39:33Speaker 2: at what he's doing there. But like, this is a
- 39:35Speaker 2: thirty homer bat in his prime, and I don't see
- 39:40Speaker 2: how they keep him down that much longer. And I
- 39:43Speaker 2: think there's a chance that he breaks breaks camp with
- 39:45Speaker 2: the team. And we're talking about a guy that's going
- 39:46Speaker 2: off the board after the pick four fifty, so I
- 39:49Speaker 2: believe that's called free. So go ahead and to pick
- 39:52Speaker 2: him up. But I think he's gonna do great things.
- 39:54Speaker 2: And even if he's not up early, you know, when
- 39:57Speaker 2: he does get the call. I think it's gonna be
- 39:59Speaker 2: absolutely worth it. He looks like a very, very mature hitter,
- 40:02Speaker 2: even at the age of twenty three.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I love that. I've loved Ryan Waldschmidt's profile for
- 40:08Speaker 1: a while. Uh, Taylor, what have you thought about wald
- 40:10Speaker 1: Schmidt and his kind of meteoric rise through this Arizona system.
- 40:14Speaker 3: Oh, I'm a big fan. I was pumping him.
- 40:16Speaker 4: I think I was the highest that prospects live on
- 40:18Speaker 4: him during the FIPD in the draft year. So I've
- 40:21Speaker 4: been a fan since he got drafted, basically, and he's realized,
- 40:25Speaker 4: you know everything I hoped. You know, you got the power,
- 40:27Speaker 4: you got the speed, you got the great approach, good
- 40:29Speaker 4: hit tool. I mean, it's really the full package.
- 40:33Speaker 2: You know.
- 40:34Speaker 4: He hasn't really played above double A, so it's going
- 40:37Speaker 4: to be tough for him to break into that lineup
- 40:40Speaker 4: if Carol's ready to go, which it seems like he
- 40:42Speaker 4: will be. But I'm with Brew, I think it's probably
- 40:46Speaker 4: gonna be not that long that he's down there. I
- 40:49Speaker 4: think a lot of it's going to come to what
- 40:50Speaker 4: else they get out of like an Alec Thomas, who
- 40:53Speaker 4: has looked good this spring, but we've seen a lot
- 40:55Speaker 4: of Alec Thomas, and you know we've seen him fail
- 40:57Speaker 4: a lot. So you know, I think he's got a
- 41:00Speaker 4: thousand ops in the spring and a thousand ops in
- 41:02Speaker 4: the in the WBC, but you know, it's one of
- 41:07Speaker 4: those where he's got to prove it in the regular season.
- 41:08Speaker 4: I think he's gonna be on a fairly short leash
- 41:11Speaker 4: if Walschmidt just continues to demolish the miners.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally agree. Let's get into the cells, Taylor,
- 41:16Speaker 1: who you selling from the DBS?
- 41:18Speaker 4: Yeah, this one I feel pretty strong about. It's Heraldo Perdomo.
- 41:22Speaker 2: It's really cool.
- 41:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I went pretty chock with with some of these picks.
- 41:28Speaker 4: Really comes down to where he's being picked. You know,
- 41:30Speaker 4: eighty six in ADP. It's like everyone's assuming he just
- 41:34Speaker 4: is this guy who he was last year, and nothing
- 41:37Speaker 4: prior to last year shows us that he's that guy.
- 41:39Speaker 4: You know, he'd never previously hit more than six home
- 41:41Speaker 4: runs or stolen more than sixteen bases in a season.
- 41:44Speaker 4: You look at the quality contact metrics, the evs are
- 41:48Speaker 4: are lackluster. You look at the expected stats, he outperformed
- 41:50Speaker 4: him last year. I mean, I don't think he's gonna
- 41:53Speaker 4: be what he was prior to last year. I think
- 41:55Speaker 4: there's some real skills growth there, but I think people
- 41:58Speaker 4: are really expecting a lot of They're expecting like twenty
- 42:00Speaker 4: twenty bat hitting, you know, close to three hundred. I
- 42:03Speaker 4: think you're gonna get a good batting average, but I
- 42:04Speaker 4: think your your home runs and stolen bases are going
- 42:07Speaker 4: to be pretty disappointing. And for me, I would rather
- 42:10Speaker 4: take a shot on like a Trevor Story Who's going
- 42:13Speaker 4: later than I would on a Heraldo Perdomo just based
- 42:15Speaker 4: on the value.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally agree, and that's what it is.
- 42:18Speaker 2: Like.
- 42:18Speaker 1: I love Heraldo Perdomo. I think it's a great profile.
- 42:21Speaker 1: I think he's a great player, and I think he's
- 42:24Speaker 1: going to stick at the top of that lineup. But
- 42:26Speaker 1: it's all about draft price and when you're paying. It's
- 42:28Speaker 1: currently an ADP of like eighty six with a men
- 42:32Speaker 1: of sixty four right now the past month and a half.
- 42:35Speaker 1: That is very, very rich, and you're counting on what
- 42:38Speaker 1: he did last year, which don't get me wrong, it
- 42:41Speaker 1: was amazing. It was a one thirty eight WRC plus
- 42:43Speaker 1: with a two ninety average, twenty homers and twenty seven
- 42:46Speaker 1: Stonlee bases, but that screams career year. And the nice
- 42:50Speaker 1: thing is Perdomo's glove will keep them on the field
- 42:53Speaker 1: and it'll keep them in the lineup. But I think,
- 42:56Speaker 1: I mean, all of the projections, if you type in
- 42:58Speaker 1: what they are, they're not going to kick out what
- 43:01Speaker 1: that actual draft value is because all of them are
- 43:04Speaker 1: bringing him back to mid teens homers and like twenty
- 43:07Speaker 1: year steals with like a two seventy ish average, which
- 43:10Speaker 1: when you also go to a Savant page two, it
- 43:13Speaker 1: is red, but it's not red where you want it
- 43:15Speaker 1: to be red, because it's it's not red on bat speed.
- 43:18Speaker 1: It's not red on hard hit rate or bail rate
- 43:21Speaker 1: or exit VLO or x slug. It's all the other
- 43:24Speaker 1: indicators that actually scream this is a dude who had
- 43:27Speaker 1: a hot streak of all hot streaks, because when you
- 43:30Speaker 1: especially are looking at a great sweet spot and a
- 43:33Speaker 1: great squared up rate and actually like he outperformed as
- 43:37Speaker 1: XBA by twelve points as well, that like the XBA
- 43:41Speaker 1: was only two seventy eight when he hit two ninety,
- 43:43Speaker 1: it screams career year. It screams peak. And so I
- 43:47Speaker 1: think people are going to be sorely disappointed if you're
- 43:49Speaker 1: looking for another twenty twenty season out for all the
- 43:51Speaker 1: predomo just because I don't think he's got the juice
- 43:54Speaker 1: so love him as a player, but can't do it
- 43:57Speaker 1: at the current draft price. Yeah. Agree.
- 44:00Speaker 2: I was actually just looking at my top one hundred
- 44:02Speaker 2: rankings because he's going off the board. I think, uh
- 44:04Speaker 2: in the forty ninth hitter, and I think I had
- 44:06Speaker 2: him on sixty ninth hitter, on on on mine, and
- 44:08Speaker 2: so like you, you drop down you know, another like
- 44:12Speaker 2: five or six rounds, and I'm like, yeah, that that
- 44:14Speaker 2: feels about right, because you know, I agree, there's some
- 44:16Speaker 2: real progression here, but it's you're not gonna have the
- 44:19Speaker 2: same year. You just won't have the same year. And
- 44:21Speaker 2: if you're banking on that, it's not gonna happen. So
- 44:23Speaker 2: he's not he was not my my cell, but mine
- 44:26Speaker 2: is a much simpler sell. But I fully agree.
- 44:30Speaker 1: So who are you gonna sell them?
- 44:32Speaker 2: I'm gonna sell corbyin Carroll just because I hate I
- 44:35Speaker 2: hate handmade injuries. And I know he's probably gonna be back.
- 44:39Speaker 2: I know it's gonna be but like he's he's a
- 44:42Speaker 2: guy that we've seen some streakiness before, and I just
- 44:46Speaker 2: I'm thinking of like Francisco Alvarez last year, and I
- 44:49Speaker 2: know that's like a completely asinine like comp for Corbyn Carroll,
- 44:54Speaker 2: but like from a pure recovery perspective, like we've seen
- 44:57Speaker 2: it time and time again with these handmates, where it
- 44:59Speaker 2: just takes time for that power to come back. And
- 45:02Speaker 2: I'm sitting here looking at Corby and Carroll like, are
- 45:04Speaker 2: we going to truly get like the power that we
- 45:07Speaker 2: saw last year and expect that to come through like
- 45:09Speaker 2: thirty one homers thirty two steals? Or are we sitting
- 45:12Speaker 2: here looking at a guy that's gonna be more like
- 45:14Speaker 2: fifteen eighteen homers and maybe the thirty steals and the
- 45:17Speaker 2: two sixty average, Like, don't get me wrong, so valuable,
- 45:19Speaker 2: but my first round pick, or rather be in the
- 45:23Speaker 2: second round, Like I don't feel comfortable angling into that,
- 45:27Speaker 2: Like there's so many other paths you can know for stability,
- 45:30Speaker 2: So I think he should be going like late second,
- 45:33Speaker 2: early third right now until we see that like the
- 45:35Speaker 2: powers coming back, and I think somebody else is gonna
- 45:38Speaker 2: take him before before I get there. So it's very simple.
- 45:41Speaker 2: I don't want the injury, so I'll pass and then
- 45:44Speaker 2: let somebody else deal with it.
- 45:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm there too. Taylor brew and I
- 45:49Speaker 1: have kind of talked a little bit since the Handmaide
- 45:51Speaker 1: injuries about how we're handling them and just really fading
- 45:54Speaker 1: them and staying away. What has your approach been for
- 45:56Speaker 1: these handmade guys between Carol and Francisco, Lindor and Jackson Holliday.
- 46:02Speaker 4: Yeah, like for me, like for Carol and Lindora, I'm
- 46:05Speaker 4: probably dropping him about around unless it's like you know, NFBC,
- 46:09Speaker 4: where you don't have any eye olt and while you
- 46:11Speaker 4: know the recovery process for hand made injuries is fairly straightforward,
- 46:15Speaker 4: you just never know what injuries like. I don't want
- 46:16Speaker 4: to I try not to start with too many guys
- 46:19Speaker 4: hurt because I know that, you know, maybe even by
- 46:21Speaker 4: the time the end my draft stud I'll have a
- 46:23Speaker 4: couple of guys who hurt. So I generally try to
- 46:26Speaker 4: stay away. But I think, you know, long term, I
- 46:28Speaker 4: don't have any concerns from like a dynasty standpoint, from
- 46:30Speaker 4: a rejaft standpoint, like you guys, I'm just it's a
- 46:33Speaker 4: headache I don't really want when you're picking that early,
- 46:37Speaker 4: you want something that you are sure of what you're getting,
- 46:39Speaker 4: and I think you're a little uncertain about how that's
- 46:42Speaker 4: going to affect him, at least in the early part
- 46:44Speaker 4: of the season.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I think we're all on the same page there.
- 46:47Speaker 1: So let's move on to maybe the main show of
- 46:49Speaker 1: the podcast, the main show of my approach for fantasy baseball,
- 46:53Speaker 1: that's for sure. The Colorado Rockies here went forty three
- 46:56Speaker 1: and one nineteen last year, probably setting up to be
- 46:59Speaker 1: just about the same this year. So it is a
- 47:02Speaker 1: fascinating squad as Paul D. Pedesto has been hired and
- 47:06Speaker 1: brought into the front office. But also at the same time,
- 47:08Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys saw this recently, but
- 47:10Speaker 1: fangrass was running like openings where they post jobs sometimes
- 47:14Speaker 1: for teams, and one of the ones that they posted
- 47:17Speaker 1: was for the Rockies and it was literally an entire
- 47:20Speaker 1: just like R and D slash analytics department. So it
- 47:23Speaker 1: shows you where they have to come to be able
- 47:25Speaker 1: to get themselves on board and up to par with
- 47:27Speaker 1: the rest of the league. It's going to take a while.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Has been a relatively busy offseason for them compared to
- 47:34Speaker 1: what they've done previously, they brought in Jake McCarthy and
- 47:37Speaker 1: Edward Julian on some trades and then also have picked
- 47:40Speaker 1: up Michael Lorenzen, Jose Kintana, Tomoyuku Yi Sugano, and it's
- 47:45Speaker 1: going to be a rough, rough pitching staff. I can
- 47:48Speaker 1: say that that when Sagano signed, I've been joking with
- 47:51Speaker 1: some folks that if you're in an anti fancy baseball league,
- 47:54Speaker 1: where like, if you're in a points league where you're
- 47:56Speaker 1: trying to get negative points, Tomyuki Sigano might be your
- 47:59Speaker 1: number one pick because him and Coooris Field is going
- 48:01Speaker 1: to be an absolute disaster I think. But with all
- 48:04Speaker 1: that said, honestly, lots of intriguing bats in this lineup,
- 48:08Speaker 1: not only from an everyday perspective, but especially if you're
- 48:12Speaker 1: in a daily league. You've got to attack some of
- 48:14Speaker 1: these Rockies players to get them into your daily lineups
- 48:16Speaker 1: to try to maximize some of that cooris Field time.
- 48:19Speaker 1: And you can do it pretty cheaply in drafts. So, Taylor,
- 48:22Speaker 1: who you buying from the Rockies.
- 48:25Speaker 4: Yeah, before we get into that, not a Rocky. But
- 48:27Speaker 4: I got the WBC Italy versus Mexico game on and
- 48:30Speaker 4: the background muted if you guys caught this, But vinnyp
- 48:34Speaker 4: just hit his third home run of the game, first
- 48:37Speaker 4: time I think ever in WBC that a players hit
- 48:39Speaker 4: three home runs. So, guy, I saw my eyes pop
- 48:41Speaker 4: out of my head as we're recording here.
- 48:43Speaker 3: That's what happened.
- 48:44Speaker 1: But the back to the Rockies, Yeah, from from the
- 48:49Speaker 1: highest highs to the lowest flows.
- 48:51Speaker 4: Yeah, so on the you know, we got to have
- 48:53Speaker 4: a downer note here to talk about the Rockies. So
- 48:56Speaker 4: speaking of a downer note, I'm gonna talk about a
- 48:57Speaker 4: guy who you know, his stocks down after poor year
- 49:00Speaker 4: last year.
- 49:00Speaker 3: That's Breton Doyle ADP of one sixty two.
- 49:04Speaker 4: You know, you look at what his performance was in
- 49:06Speaker 4: twenty twenty four, you know, he looked like a breakout player.
- 49:09Speaker 4: You look at what he did last year. It was
- 49:10Speaker 4: really disappointing, you know, but there's some extenuing circumstances going
- 49:15Speaker 4: on behind the scenes that I think you have to
- 49:16Speaker 4: give him a little bit of pass for last year.
- 49:18Speaker 4: So early on the year, him and his family experienced
- 49:22Speaker 4: a really difficult off the field tragedy and I think it,
- 49:26Speaker 4: you know, really impacted him. And we got to remember
- 49:28Speaker 4: these guys are are humans, you know, they they have
- 49:31Speaker 4: to deal with emotions and family stuff and everything like that.
- 49:34Speaker 4: And you know, you look at just the progression of
- 49:37Speaker 4: his season again, he really really struggled in the first
- 49:39Speaker 4: half as he was going through this stuff. In the
- 49:42Speaker 4: second half, though, he looked more like his twenty twenty
- 49:44Speaker 4: four self. So after the All Star break two eighties two,
- 49:47Speaker 4: three oh seven, four sixty two slash, eight home runs,
- 49:50Speaker 4: nine stolen bases in fifty six games. I mean, that's
- 49:52Speaker 4: what you're getting him for, is that power speed. I
- 49:54Speaker 4: think he can bounce back this year. I think people
- 49:56Speaker 4: are going to be even a little bit more down
- 49:58Speaker 4: on him because he missed some time this preseason due
- 50:01Speaker 4: to a risk injury. But he's back in the lineup.
- 50:03Speaker 4: He stole a base in his first game back from
- 50:06Speaker 4: the injury, so I think he's he's fine. It was,
- 50:08Speaker 4: you know, a short absence. I don't think it's gonna
- 50:10Speaker 4: be a lingering risk injury hopefully, and so far, you know,
- 50:14Speaker 4: as of yesterday and four spring training games, I think
- 50:16Speaker 4: he's hitting three sixty four. So I just you know,
- 50:19Speaker 4: really like Breton Doyle is like that power speed guy
- 50:21Speaker 4: that's not gonna that you're not gonna have.
- 50:22Speaker 1: To pay up for yep. I totally agree. I think
- 50:25Speaker 1: this is one of the great buys on the Rockies.
- 50:27Speaker 1: That The other factor two is when you go to
- 50:29Speaker 1: the roster resource page for the Rockies, you'll see a
- 50:31Speaker 1: lot of platoons. Doyle's not gonna get ever platoon just
- 50:34Speaker 1: because that center field defense is gonna play no matter
- 50:37Speaker 1: what every day. So great, buy here, brew, Who are
- 50:40Speaker 1: you buying from these Colorado Rockies.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just gonna be consistent and continue to just
- 50:44Speaker 2: go down the draft work even further and go for
- 50:48Speaker 2: pick five hundred this time, and I'm gonna go Zach Been.
- 50:51Speaker 2: And part of it's just because he looks absolutely jacked
- 50:54Speaker 2: the spring, and you know it's spring besta for your
- 50:58Speaker 2: life kind of season. We got it. We got to
- 51:00Speaker 2: give him a chance. And you know, he's he's hitting
- 51:03Speaker 2: the ball well the spring. He's hitting two fifty, hit
- 51:05Speaker 2: two homers already. And this has been a guy that
- 51:08Speaker 2: generally has you know, he had a high prospect pedigree.
- 51:12Speaker 2: You know, he's hit relatively well the last years the miners,
- 51:15Speaker 2: and he looked pretty dreadful at times when he may
- 51:19Speaker 2: got into the majors. But I think that he's still
- 51:21Speaker 2: got a lot to give. He's got good speed, he
- 51:25Speaker 2: looks like he's as healthy as gonna be. You know,
- 51:27Speaker 2: he struggled with some off the field issues as well
- 51:30Speaker 2: himself last few years, and he's see seeming to say
- 51:34Speaker 2: they get the straight and narrow version of zach Veen
- 51:36Speaker 2: at this point, at least that's what the reports are saying.
- 51:38Speaker 2: So I think he's got a lot of potential. I
- 51:42Speaker 2: look at that outfield and they go, there's lots of
- 51:45Speaker 2: guys out there. But I'm not sitting here going like
- 51:47Speaker 2: there's anybody that's good that should have a long leash.
- 51:50Speaker 2: Now I have to caveaut us all with the rockiness
- 51:53Speaker 2: of this, which is every prospect that's ever been in
- 51:56Speaker 2: the Rockies uniform outside of like Ezekiel Tovar for some
- 51:58Speaker 2: reason like let's try to bury him in the depth
- 52:01Speaker 2: chart and then wait till they're twenty seven to I
- 52:03Speaker 2: actually give him a shot. So that's completely what could
- 52:05Speaker 2: be happening with zach Vien. But I think that there's
- 52:08Speaker 2: a lot of upside here for very very little outlay,
- 52:11Speaker 2: and you know, you might be back into a Briton
- 52:13Speaker 2: Doyle type season without too much effort if he gets
- 52:16Speaker 2: a full run of it. So I like Zach Viene.
- 52:18Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of upside there. Pick five hundred.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I like it too. The outfield is going to
- 52:25Speaker 1: be tough to crack, but I think first injury that happens,
- 52:27Speaker 1: or if anything, just kind of goes to where Ving
- 52:31Speaker 1: is unstoppable. I think he is up that there's no
- 52:34Speaker 1: reason to stop him from being on the squad. So
- 52:36Speaker 1: solid pick Okay, Well, I said this was going to
- 52:41Speaker 1: be a main show for me because I double dipped.
- 52:44Speaker 1: I picked two buys because I can't stop buying these
- 52:46Speaker 1: guys in every draft. And Brew knows this and I've
- 52:49Speaker 1: been talking about it all off season. First guy is
- 52:52Speaker 1: Willie Castro. He's eligible everywhere and that is going to
- 52:55Speaker 1: be Fantasy gold. He's going to be the starting third baseman,
- 52:59Speaker 1: place a switch hitter. He's playing every day for the
- 53:01Speaker 1: Colorad Rockies. Fantastic blue guy for your roster that I've
- 53:06Speaker 1: been trying to pick him up everywhere just because of that.
- 53:07Speaker 1: I don't even need to necessarily get into like the
- 53:10Speaker 1: stats and everything, because it's just a pure volume placed
- 53:13Speaker 1: based utility play that has half of his games in
- 53:15Speaker 1: Cooris field, especially if you're in a daily league like
- 53:18Speaker 1: that is found money all day long, going to help
- 53:21Speaker 1: you out at second base, shortstop, third base, outfield, and
- 53:26Speaker 1: so it's just a perfect roster piece I think for
- 53:29Speaker 1: five by five rodo. The other one is Jake McCarthy.
- 53:31Speaker 1: It's so late that it's like ridiculous how free he
- 53:36Speaker 1: is that Like, I think there are lots of drafts
- 53:38Speaker 1: that like, he's getting lost in the EIGHTYPCE shuffle. It's
- 53:41Speaker 1: an average of four to seventy nine over the past
- 53:44Speaker 1: month and a half and he's running wild in the spring.
- 53:48Speaker 1: That like that shows me Jake McCarthy's ready to go.
- 53:51Speaker 1: The power is going to be lacking. But you put
- 53:54Speaker 1: Jake McCarthy a contact maven in Coori's field, I mean
- 53:57Speaker 1: there's a possibility he hits three hundred plus at home
- 54:00Speaker 1: and is on base so much that he gets up
- 54:01Speaker 1: to thirty to forty stolen bases I think for the Rockies.
- 54:04Speaker 1: So the Rockies don't necessarily care about like all the
- 54:09Speaker 1: other kind of stats around Jake McCarthy, even though you know,
- 54:13Speaker 1: I don't think it's the best outfield profile in the corner.
- 54:16Speaker 1: But I think they're just gonna let him go and
- 54:18Speaker 1: see if he can actually like prove that he's got
- 54:21Speaker 1: enough value to be traded at the deadline. So I
- 54:23Speaker 1: think until the deadline, Jake McCarthy's got full run, assuming
- 54:27Speaker 1: no injuries happened. So there you go. You got two
- 54:29Speaker 1: from the Rockies for me. Castro and McCarthy. I think
- 54:32Speaker 1: they're valuable assets for where they're going in drafts.
- 54:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll let Taylor pine if he wants on the
- 54:37Speaker 2: actual quality of the picks. I was just sitting here going,
- 54:39Speaker 2: I wish that you would have give me a chance
- 54:42Speaker 2: predict your picks beforehand, because this was a slam dunk.
- 54:44Speaker 2: I knew exactly the two you're gonna call out. So
- 54:46Speaker 2: Willie Caster, Jake McCarthy, those are your love children from Colorado,
- 54:49Speaker 2: So not surprised that you made those picks.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Yeah, what do you think in Taylor?
- 54:55Speaker 4: I like both of them actually, and love that the
- 54:58Speaker 4: ving pick too, Shape of your Life season. And then Ven
- 55:01Speaker 4: shows up with forty pounds of muscle and uh, you know,
- 55:05Speaker 4: changes his life. You know that that that's the real
- 55:07Speaker 4: best Shape of your Life season. So I'm a big
- 55:09Speaker 4: fan of that pick. And then and then your your
- 55:10Speaker 4: pick's Mike Uh. You know, I like Castro as well.
- 55:14Speaker 4: I think he, you know, in it just to the
- 55:15Speaker 4: positional versatility. He kind of like is a little bit
- 55:19Speaker 4: of average in every category, Like he's not gonna kill
- 55:21Speaker 4: you in ratios, he's not going to kill you in
- 55:24Speaker 4: uh in home runs and steals, and then he's you know,
- 55:27Speaker 4: gonna compile those those runs in RBI. So I really
- 55:30Speaker 4: like that pick. And then Jake McCarthy, I agree. It's
- 55:33Speaker 4: funny because I was on this episode last year when
- 55:36Speaker 4: we were talking about the Diamondbacks and my cell was
- 55:38Speaker 4: Jake McCarthy. Uh, And I just, you know, I just
- 55:41Speaker 4: didn't see there was enough there for him to hold
- 55:43Speaker 4: down the job. That's different now in Colorado. And you
- 55:46Speaker 4: look at Jake McCarthy as a player. When he's been good,
- 55:49Speaker 4: he's had really high babbebs, and when his babbit falls,
- 55:51Speaker 4: he's not very good. That that that's what props him up,
- 55:54Speaker 4: is that babbep. There is no better place to go
- 55:57Speaker 4: for a babbit than coors Field. So I definite only
- 56:00Speaker 4: think Jake McCarthy can give you a pretty big return
- 56:04Speaker 4: on investment if he can benefit from that babbitt at
- 56:08Speaker 4: Coors there, and I think he will okay.
- 56:10Speaker 1: Well before we get into the cells, I'm gonna just
- 56:12Speaker 1: teed up because I wouldn't be surprised if you guys
- 56:15Speaker 1: are also going this route. I'm just selling all pitching.
- 56:18Speaker 1: I don't want any of these Rockies pictures on my
- 56:20Speaker 1: roster period, even Victor Vodnik. I'm not playing with any
- 56:25Speaker 1: this fire. So I'm just gonna lay that out there.
- 56:28Speaker 1: There's no starter with rostering. I'm not even going to
- 56:31Speaker 1: try to, like do Chase Donander on the road just
- 56:34Speaker 1: because the ups and downs of Coors.
- 56:36Speaker 2: Field is just too much.
- 56:38Speaker 1: Vodnik not only is the an erratic reliever, but this
- 56:42Speaker 1: Rockies team is going to really really struggle to get
- 56:45Speaker 1: to forty five to fifty wins, So that's already limiting
- 56:48Speaker 1: the number of saves you're looking at. There's nobody on
- 56:52Speaker 1: this entire pitching staff that I want anything to deal
- 56:55Speaker 1: with from the Rockies, don't matter the price. Are you
- 56:59Speaker 1: guys in that same boat where you're going to do
- 57:01Speaker 1: the same sort of cell or do you have separate cells?
- 57:05Speaker 4: I have a different cell, but I agree with you completely.
- 57:08Speaker 4: I'm firmly in the never draft A Rocky pitcher camp
- 57:11Speaker 4: regardless of the starter reliever.
- 57:14Speaker 1: I think that's fair.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Yeah, this is kind of like the Los Angeles Angels
- 57:17Speaker 2: discussions we had. I'm just a general sell the team
- 57:20Speaker 2: perspective there, but I do have a sell individual cell
- 57:23Speaker 2: as well. But I will not disagree with your approach.
- 57:25Speaker 1: Okay, well, Taylor, let's get your individual cell.
- 57:29Speaker 3: Yeah, and this is going to be interesting.
- 57:30Speaker 2: One.
- 57:30Speaker 4: It's Hunter Goodman going at sixty ninth overall. And what
- 57:34Speaker 4: is so weird is like the variance between where he's
- 57:39Speaker 4: valued in like an NFBC league or like just the
- 57:42Speaker 4: redrafts leagues I've been in, and where he's valued in
- 57:44Speaker 4: a dynasty league despite the fact that he's twenty six
- 57:47Speaker 4: years old, because you look at an NFBC, I think
- 57:51Speaker 4: he's like going as the fifth catcher off the board
- 57:54Speaker 4: or something like that, like really high up. But you
- 57:56Speaker 4: look at I had two dynasty startups this this Offseas
- 58:00Speaker 4: and Goodman was the tenth major league catcher off the
- 58:04Speaker 4: board in one and the eleventh major league catcher off
- 58:06Speaker 4: the board in the other one. So it's like no
- 58:08Speaker 4: one was buying a one Hunter Goodman. I finally took
- 58:10Speaker 4: him in one of them because I was just like,
- 58:12Speaker 4: at this point, the value is worth it. But I
- 58:14Speaker 4: don't really buy in to Hunter Goodman. And it's not
- 58:16Speaker 4: about the power. I mean last year to seventy eight average,
- 58:20Speaker 4: thirty one home runs. I definitely think the power is real,
- 58:24Speaker 4: but that batting average is definitely not real. You look
- 58:27Speaker 4: at his swinging strike rate sixteen point three percent, He's
- 58:30Speaker 4: going to strike out a ton. That average is coming
- 58:33Speaker 4: down regardless of you know, the Coors effect U seventy
- 58:37Speaker 4: percent contact rate. That's really bordering, and I think that
- 58:42Speaker 4: could fall a little bit too. And then you look
- 58:43Speaker 4: at again going back to the expected stats, he significantly
- 58:47Speaker 4: overperformed them last year. I think he's a solid catcher.
- 58:51Speaker 4: I think if I could take him in redraft as
- 58:54Speaker 4: like the you know, seventh to tenth catcher off the board, sure,
- 58:58Speaker 4: but he's going far sooner than that, and I can't
- 59:00Speaker 4: do it with all the quality options that catch it there.
- 59:03Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean, I think you're probably right too.
- 59:05Speaker 1: And in terms of dynasty that like, this team is
- 59:09Speaker 1: got no catching in the entire system. It is awful.
- 59:13Speaker 1: So Hunter Goodman is the catcher of the future in Colorado,
- 59:17Speaker 1: whether they like it, or not so, uh, Brew, I
- 59:20Speaker 1: saw you not and while he was talking Hunter Goodwin,
- 59:22Speaker 1: I'm missing yourself.
- 59:23Speaker 2: It's this. I love it. This is my cells. Everything
- 59:27Speaker 2: you're said, like you can go, you know, rounds later
- 59:30Speaker 2: and get the Drake Baldwins. You can wait like ten
- 59:32Speaker 2: rounds and get like Adley Rutschman somehow. So like there's
- 59:36Speaker 2: so many other options, and he's he's riding that babe
- 59:41Speaker 2: look and like he's gonna be volatile. He's he's gonna
- 59:43Speaker 2: have awesome season like this, he's gonna hit two twenty
- 59:45Speaker 2: and hit twenty homers like one of these seasons. Like
- 59:47Speaker 2: it's it's gonna be a roller coaster and it's not
- 59:50Speaker 2: worth a fifth, sixth round pick, Like that's just not
- 59:54Speaker 2: not worth it.
- 59:54Speaker 1: So easy, easy, Cell, Yeah, yeah, I think I'm on
- 59:58Speaker 1: board with everything. You guys a saying that there's lots
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: of different routes to go with Catcher and Goodman's just
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: the floor is so low here. It's gonna be brutal
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: if he can't make the contact that he did last year. Okay, well,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: let's move on to the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers next,
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: coming off that World Series win and winning the division
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: with a ninety three and sixty nine record. This is
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: quite the lineup is quite the murderers row now where
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: I mean, honestly, they're returning everybody, and then they added
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: Kyle Tucker, so it just kind of got even better
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: that they picked up the best bat in free agency
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: this offseason. The pitching side again returning everybody, but now
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: they're getting full blown two way show Hey Otani who's
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: slotting in and the number three spot in their rotation.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: Added Edwin Diaz as well to the back of this bullpen.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: That was maybe the one sore spot that they had
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: all of last season was that bullpen, and they shorted
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: up with the best guy they possibly could. So I
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: don't know if there's any kind of more we can
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: say about the Los Angeles Dodgers. They've got I think
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: the highest all time World Series probability odds on fangrafts
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: going into a season of ever right now, which is
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: I think it's at like twenty seven percent or so.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: So this is the odds on favorite for the World
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: Series winners again in twenty twenty six, and it's hard
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: to disagree with that, unfortunately, So sorry to lay that
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: all in front of you, Taylor, as you're wearing your
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: Giants hat, and we'll be rounding out this preview with
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: your favorite team. But who is your buy here from
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: the Dodgers because there is a lot of fantasy options
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: here on this roster.
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely a lot of different buys to choose from.
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: I'm going a little bit older this time around. I'm
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: going with tay Oscar Hernandez adp of one thirty three.
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: This is a guy who I feel like gets lost
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: a little bit in that that great lineup. I think
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: in many other lineups, you know he'd be more of
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: a standout, but he again just gets kind of buried
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: in just a lineup full of all stars. But you
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: look at what he did last year. He had, I think,
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: by most measures, a down year compared to prior seasons,
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: but he still hit two forty seven with twenty five
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: home runs, and his WRC plus one O two was
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: the worst since his rookie season. So if that's his
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: worst season, that just tells you how good he's been.
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: It came out this offseason that he had been playing
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: through a groin injury. You look at what he did
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: prior to the injury, that he suffered in May. He
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: had a one forty nine WRC plus after the injury,
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: just an eighty six WRC plus for the rest of
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: the season, and the OBP in particular cratered. It was
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: his worst walk rate of his career, and even with
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: all that being said, there were some encouraging things.
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: Last year.
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: He posted his highest contact rate of his career, his
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: second highest zone contact rate, his best strikeout rate, his
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: third best swinging strike rate the BABB It was the
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: lowest it had been since his rookie year, which this
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: is a veteran. His rookie year was a long time ago,
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: and he significantly underperformed his expected stats. Quality of contact
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: metrics did dip a little bit, but overall, we're not
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: that far off prior numbers. And I think at thirty three,
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: I don't think this is the beginning of the decline.
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: I still think there's plenty in the tank, and I
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: think twenty twenty six is gonna be a big bounce
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: back here. And you think about how that lineup, which
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: was already outstanding, has improved with Kyle Tucker there. I mean,
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: he's just going to rack up the runs and RBIs.
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: I think he can hit thirty plus home runs. I
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: think he can give you a decent batting average. You know,
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: if you wonder if he's healthy, He's got ops over
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: one thousand so far in spring. I don't put too
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: much stock into spring numbers, but you know, he's definitely
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: looking healthy right now.
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I think this is a great pick. I remember
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: that first half on the teams that I had him
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: last year that he was really he was like a
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: top twenty hitter for that first half. He was incredible
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: that like, he carried a lot of teams and they
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: fell apart when that injury hit. So good call Brew,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: who's your bye?
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: I love where Taylor's going. I'm going to say similar
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: theme here. We're gonna go veterans, and we're gonna go
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: Max Muncie going a little bit later than Tasker Hernandez,
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: and we remember Max months. He started wearing glasses last
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: year and so for those those class glasses wears, there's
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: a little cult going on. But he also started to
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: be able to hit, which which was a big thing.
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: And if you look at what we did last year,
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: one hundred games, twenty homers, sixty seven RBIs two forty
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: three average, just increased those all by fifty percent if
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: you've played that full season. We're talking a thirty homer
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: one hundred rbi a season, and that's like who he
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: has been for like almost ten years. And he's in
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: an awesome lineup and they have him. I think groscer
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: Resource had him like in six in the batting order.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: So like you talk about prime, you know, rum production opportunities,
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: he's gonna be boring as all get out, and he's
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: gonna hit twenty five homers, talking one hundred and ten
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: guys hit two forty two fifty and you're drafting him
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: in like the twentieth round, Like I see, it just
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: doesn't make sense. And it is such an easy buy
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: that nobody's dealing with. So I'm taking max months he's boring,
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: I get it. Maybe he finished the season a little slow.
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: He's thirty five. It's okay, he's worth it. He's gonna
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: be the least sexy guy in that light up.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a great call. I just looked up
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: roughly when he got those glasses. I guess it happened
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: in like late April. So if you go from May on, uh,
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: in seventy one games, he slashed two sixty four four
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: h three five forty one one sixty one WRSC plus
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: eighteen homers and sixty two RBI with forty one runs
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: and seventy one games. You just doubled that. That's Uh,
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: that's a crazy season.
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: Hey, it's a miracle that gonna happen when you actually
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: see the ball. Who would he guessed?
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Uh, I'm sticking with the veteran theme here. I'm buying
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: Mookie Bets. I can't believe where the price has fallen.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: It started to get into like the fourth round and
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: fifteen teamers. Uh average ADP of around like fifty nine
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: right now on NFBC since the beginning of February blows
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: my mind. I the the projections too. They don't know
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: that Mookie Bets dropped like what it was, like twenty
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: twenty five pounds because of that illness coming back from
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: Japan last year at the beginning of the season, and
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: it just totally derailed the year. Even with that, though,
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: he's still hit two fifty eight with twenty homers, ninety
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: five runs and eighty two RBI. It was still a
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: solid season. And oh yeah, by the way, he just
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: kind of like learned shortstop on the fly and did
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: all that while putting up a pretty solid season. He's
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: hitting third in this lineup, where before him it is
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Otani and Tucker. Behind him is Freddy Freeman and Will Smith.
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: I mean, you might be looking at like twenty five homers,
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty runs and rbipiece for Mookie bets
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: this year out of the shortstop spot. I love him
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: at the back end of like the second round if
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: he's there, obviously, depending on what else is around, but
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: I think he's a solid short stop that's gonna hit,
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: you know, two seventy five ish with twenty five homers
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: and like I said, one hundred plus runs and rbipiece.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: It seems like it's easy money, and I think there's
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: even upside for more considering it seem like MOOKI when
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: I've been watching him in games this year in spring training,
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: it seems like he's got a little bit of a
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: chip on his shoulder. And this is the last guy
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: that you want to be facing when he's got a
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: chip on his shoulder, because when he kicks into overdrive,
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: just look out. So all right, well let's get into
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: those cells now. So Taylor, I'll let you kick off first,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: Who you selling from the Dodgers?
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: I love this segment. Who am I selling from the Dodgers?
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: All right, I'm staying away from Brokie Sasaki. I know
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: it's not gonna cost you much ADP of two fifty two,
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: but I just I think he's a prospect at this
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: point that's not ready for the majors. You look at
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: what he did last year. It was absolutely terrible. Despite
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: all the hype, He's looked just as bad this spring.
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: You know, I think the quote unquote good news is
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: that he performed well in a backfield game against minor leaguers,
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: Like I don't really care. I think even with the
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: banged up rotation, there's you know, really promising performances from
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: Justin Robleski or from River Ryan. I think, you know,
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: I'm not sure Rokie makes this team. He has options.
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: I think he probably will. I know Dave Roberts says
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: he will, But Dave Roberts is a notorious liar, and
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: I'll never believe anything he ever says. So that actually
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: makes me think Rokie's going to be start the year
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: in the minors. So yeah, I just I'm fully out,
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: like unless he falls to like pick four, hundred or something.
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: I just I have no desire to waste to pick
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: on Roki Sosaki.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm right there with you. This was my cell
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: as well. It's just he doesn't throw in the zone enough,
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: and if you're not going to throw it in the zone,
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: there's nothing to stop people from just sitting there and walking.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: I mean, you could see it. It happened last year
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: when the walks per nine was well over five at
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: five and a half. He's walking everybody in spring training
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: here again, you just kind of watch him work. It
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: happened in the playoffs too, Like I have no idea
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: how he escaped some of those playoff matchups because he
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: was not thrown in the zone and people were still
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: swinging that. He doesn't have any control right now. And
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: so I don't know if it's like the shoulder is
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: an issue, or if the elbow is an issue, or
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: if it just needs more refinement as he's getting into
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: action coming stateside here in America. But I'm right there
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: with you that there's nothing in this profile for Roki
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Sasaki that says he can hit what the projections are
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: because there's still feeding in the data from NPB and
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: it's not the same player, it's not the same approach,
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: and it's just it's kind of it's yips, I think,
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: at the end of the day a little bit, which
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: is a lot harder to shake than any sort of
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: skill issue for me. So I'm totally out until we
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: see a full course correction from Moroki Sasaki. Brew you've
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: been nodding along too, so I figure you're in. You're
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: on board, maybe not yourself, but if you have anything
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: from Roki Sasaki that gives you hope for twenty twenty six.
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, like I what I've seen is that
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: the underlying skill is there, like you see it and flashes,
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: you can absolutely see it. You just I think Taylor's right,
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: it's like he's a prospect like at this point, like
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: he's got to figure it out, whether it's the yips,
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: whether it's the prospects, like, it's just he's not quite
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: where he needs to be, and this is not the
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: team to be in that position. So I think he's
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: gonna be in the bullpen ultimately and trying to figure
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: things out, and they're gonna put him in you know,
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: mid little leverage, long relief type scenarios and then he's
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: probably Gonnaly figure things out, and I think dynasty, Like
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: I'm actually buying Roki in a dynasty type format because
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: I do think he's gonna figure out. I do think
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: he's a very very special talent. But it might not
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: be this year, might not be next year, might be
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: the year after that. Like it's it's gonna take a
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: little bit of time for him to figure out all out.
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: So I have no qualms selling like Rokie. The only
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: since I had to buying him was every when I
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: thought there's a chance he might try to sneak in
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: the closure role, but that Edwin Diaz signed kinda closes
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: the door there.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: So yeah, absolutely, So who's yourself from the Dodgers.
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: Grow I am selling Andy. I just look at this
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: guy and it's just like red flag. Every the entire
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: profile has red flags on it, Like from a homer perspective,
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: the quality of contact, the hard hit rates, they're all low.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: Like it's not not showing up as a twenty seven
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: homer guy. He's a twenty homer guy. Maybe speed like
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: this guy's career is full and base success rates like
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: sixty percent. It's not good. He's not an efficient base
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: runner and why in the world would the Dodgers let
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: him run when they have so much power all around
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: that lineup, Like, don't run yourself out of inning. So
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: he should not have soldn fourteen bases last year because
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: they shouldn't let him run. So I'm you know, I'm
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: going over under a like eight this year, and that's
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: if he plays enough. And you just, I mean, the
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: list goes on. There's not a good played approach. He
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: chases a little too much. Like his best comp on
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: Baseball Savant is Nick Castianos, and that's not a compliment,
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: by the way. And so like I just looked through
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: this and I'm sitting here going he plays really good
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: defense and that's probably the calling card. And if you're
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: counting on to be what he was last year, that's
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: not gonna happen. I'm seeing a guy that hits twenty homers,
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: steals you know, five in bases, and hits two forty
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: and I think with a Dodgers team, that actually might
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: end up knocking you out of the lineup long term.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: And here comes Kiki Hernandez playing all like you know,
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: like he always does, playing like five games a week,
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: and you know, Pa is playing the price so.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean I think that's a solid call.
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: And part of it too, is like it can actually
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: get pretty bad if the batting average isn't good, because honestly,
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: they don't really have a center fielder in this entire
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: forty man roster outside of him. They have Michael Siani,
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: but I don't see that really kind of being a
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: long term solution. The thing that's also going to push
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: Pahas is, I mean, those outfield prospects have been playing
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: really well. Jose To Paula has been out of his mind,
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: James Tibbs has been looking really good in spring, but
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: both of those guys don't play center, and so it'll
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: be strange to see how the Dodgers fit it all
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: together with all these corner bats. But I totally agree that,
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: like if pa Has can't hang, they'll find a different
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: direction pretty quickly. In La.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: You know who just does play center on the Dodgers,
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: Tommy Edmond and so and Kim picks up Edmund with
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: that big contract. They're going to try to make sure
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: they get something out of them. So again I'm seeing
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: Tommy Edmund, Kekey Hernandez outfield here platoon, which is that's
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: not really a legit platoon, but it is it is
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: what it is. I think that's Pa is going to
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: lose playing time this year.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's totally fair. They've also got Nick
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: sen Zel who's playing well in the spring, so we
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: could we'll see some Nick cleon sound Center. Okay, well,
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: let's move on to these San Diego Padres, who it
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: is a solid broster again, but it is a roster
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: that is running out of steam pretty quick as they
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: are slapping it together in aj prellar wheels and deals
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: to try to keep it going and make it a
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: playoff contender as long as he can. They did get
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: to the wild Card last year with a ninety and
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: seventy two record. This offseason has been very interesting because
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: they did bring back Michael King, but they also have
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: just kind of brought back pieces to plug in while
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: they can to keep it chugn along, including Nick Castaianos,
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: Herman Marquez, Sunman's Song, Miguel andrewharr Is in town. And
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: so we are looking at a relatively similar roster to
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: what we had last year from the San Diego Padres.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: And then they also tacked on Griffin Canning Walker Bueler
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: to the back end of that rotation too, so a
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: very very thin system. So they've really emptied it out
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: to be able to try to move in position and
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: keep things moving along. But because of that, we've also
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: got lots of intriguing veterans I think here on the Padres.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: So Taylor, who is your buye from the San Diego Padres?
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: Yeah, full disclosure.
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: I was gonna go with Joe Musk, and then he
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: got like shut down for I don't know, fatigue or
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: setback or something, so I'm steering clear of that one.
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: So I'm gonna go with Jackson Merrill definitely, you know,
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: one of the more expensive Padres. But I think it's
- 1:15:14Speaker 4: it's worthwhile. You look at what he did in twenty
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: twenty four. He had a breakout rookie season coming straight
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: from Double A. He was kind of a surprise like
- 1:15:23Speaker 4: roster inclusion age twenty I believe, and then last year
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: went through the dreaded sophomore slump. Injuries played a big part.
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: He had three different injuries. He dealt with a hamstring,
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: an ankle, and a concussion, and even with all that,
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: you know, he still was solid, but it was pretty underwhelming.
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: With the two sixty four average, sixteen home runs and
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: just one stolen base. You know, you don't expect him
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: to steal thirty bases or anything, but you do expect
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: steals to be a much larger part of his game.
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: And I think he's healthy now so far, thousand no
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: ps this spring, two home runs in eleven games as
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: of yesterday, hitting two ninety six, And that's where what
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: you're gonna get with him is really good batting average.
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: I do think even though he hasn't stolen a base
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: of the spring, I do think the steels will come back.
- 1:16:07Speaker 4: I think the hamstring injury he suffered early on last year,
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: the ankle injury he suffered like mid season, I think
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: those really prevented him from wanting to steal. But I
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: think he's a really good bet to hit close to
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: three hundred with twenty five plus home runs and ten
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: plus steals and maybe a little bit more in the
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: stolen base department if he wants to get aggressive. So
- 1:16:26Speaker 4: I really like the discount on Jackson Merrill. You know,
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: get where he's getting drafted this year compared to last year.
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: He's the same guy if he's healthy, So I'm taking
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: that discount all day.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's a great call because guy who
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: was going in the second round last year going like
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: in the fifth round now round picked seventy five and
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: doesn't turn twenty three for another month. On April nineteenth,
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: that's when he finally turns twenty three. So there's upside too,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: So I think this is a great call. And on
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: top of it, if he plays, it's a great like
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: volume play. Just that batting average is so huge in
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: fantasy nowadays. Brew who's your buy from, Padres?
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: I hate to make this buy because it's gonna make
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: you happy, and I'm gonna buy Gavin Sheets. And that's
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: why I hate to make the buy because I like
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: to disagree with you on this podcast. It gives us
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: better content and it's just a life goal of mine.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: But you know, Gavin Sheets last year on hundred forty
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: five games, nineteen homers, seventy one RBI is two fifty
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: two average, nothing, nothing exciting, but he's going very late
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: in drafts. This is a guy that absolutely murders the
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: ball when he makes that contact, he hits massive home
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: runs and he just seems to keep getting better even
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: though he's you know, now on the wrong side of thirty.
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: Bat speed is a six percentile. He's hitting the right
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: lawnch angles, like there's just there's a thirty homer season
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: in this bat if he just gets the right run
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: and the right protection of the lineup. So I don't
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: know when that happens. I don't know if that happens
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: this year. But if we're you know where you're getting
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: him from a price perspective. If he does what he
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: did last year in a quarter infield or outfield position,
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: he is multiposition eligible. Like there, you're you're already making money.
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: And so like, I think Gavin Sheets is kind of
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: a little hidden gym. You're boring old veteran again, that's
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: gonna produce and hit twenty twenty five, hit two sixty
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: eighty RBIs. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Getting him
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: very late, I want to say he's going around like
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: twenty five or thirty or somewhere like that. It's just
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: it's pretty much free money.
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and he should pick up first base outfield eligibility
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: really quick this year. So yeah, I think this is
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: a great call. I love meet some Gavin Sheets. I'm
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: gonna go a different route though, I'm buying Xander Bogarts.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: So going right now around pick two twenty four in
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: the data I'm looking at, and I mean you said that,
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: like maybe sheets will have a little trouble like getting
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: some volume at the bottom end of the padres lamp.
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: The top end of the padres iamp is fine, and
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: Xander Bogarts is gonna be hitting lead off in front
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: of Jackson Merril, Manny Machado for name tattist Junior, and
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: Jake Cronenworth. So that is a great spot for Bogarts
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: to be coming off of a down season where he
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: hit eleven homers and twenty stolen bases with a two
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: sixty three average and one hundred and thirty six games,
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: but was also out for late last year with a
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: fractured foot. So you're looking at a healthy Xander Bogarts
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: going into this year on top of that big old lineup.
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: I don't see how he doesn't score one hundred plus
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: runs in front of those dudes if he's hitting at
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: the top of the lineup, and then you're looking at
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: mid teens homers and stolen bases. When you add that
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: all together, certainly it's a bargain for where he's going
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: at pick two twenty four. Great am I option. I mean,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: I would use him even as a starting shortstop if
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: you get that desperate, because like the volume is just
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: gonna be there, and he's been a steady hitter. He's
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: gonna keep playing, I think, and just kind of just
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: poking singles, poking doubles, giving you that volume that you need.
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: I think it's a great buy for Zander Bogarts this
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: year going to twenty twenty six.
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: I just I'm loving the boring veterans this year. It
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: just seems like almost all of them are these crazy
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: values just because the floor is so hot, because they've
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: done it time and time again. I feel like I'm
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: talking about Anthony Rendon and then the floor fell apart.
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: But you look at these guys and they're the guys
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: late in the draft that you're just filling out those
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: spots in the lineup. We're an auction draft, especially like
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: these are the dollar guys because everyone's like, ah, boring,
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: I don't want them. And then all of a sudden
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: you back into like Bogarts and Sheets and Muncie and
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: those kind of guys and you're like, yeah, I don't
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: care what happened. I could take risk early because I've
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: just got all kinds of floor on the back of
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: this lineup. So yeah, no problem with the Boggart's pick.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and especially like if you go that route, it
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: allows you to pick up like the Walt Schmids and
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: stuff late too, to be able to like hold that
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: roster spot because you know you're not scrambling right out
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: the gate. So I've been going with a lot of
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: better boring picks this year in draft season. So let's
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: get into some cells though, Taylor who song from the Padres.
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: Yeah, the Potters were a tough team because I looked
- 1:21:04Speaker 4: at like up and down the values and I'm like,
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: I like all these values, Like it was really hard
- 1:21:08Speaker 4: for me to find a sell side. I dig pretty deep,
- 1:21:10Speaker 4: and I'm gonna go with a guy who caught some
- 1:21:13Speaker 4: strays in uh In Brews Dodger cell segment, and that's
- 1:21:18Speaker 4: Nick Castillanos uh pick three eighty four. You know, again,
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: he's basically free, but like, I just think he's cooked.
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: I'd rather take a shot on an upside guy, you know,
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: than somebody who might be the short side platoon partner
- 1:21:33Speaker 4: for for Gavin Sheets, for for dairy bonds there, so
- 1:21:38Speaker 4: you know he's having a good spring. But for a veteran,
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: I don't really care. Like, I just really don't think
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: there's much there. He's not a good by all reports,
- 1:21:46Speaker 4: he's not a good clubhouse presence. Uh, he's looking at
- 1:21:49Speaker 4: a reduced role. It seems like San Diego just has
- 1:21:52Speaker 4: a really thin roster and just needed a filler, and
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: so they brought a bunch of guys in and Nick
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: Castianos is that default filler. But like, I don't think
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: he's gonna have a resurgence. He's awful in the field.
- 1:22:02Speaker 4: I just I think he's a waste of a pick.
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: I'd rather take a young guy with upside there. I'd
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: rather take a Walt Schmid there and you know, have
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: a stash than invest anything into Castianos at this point.
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: Yep, I think that's very fair. It's screams of some
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: buddy who's just loving hitting in Arizona right now. And
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure that Homer that Castanaels hit was in
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: that game that was like some bonkers is like twenty
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: five to fifteen between the Mariners and Padres because the
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: wind was just blowing straight out to center and I
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: was watching, it's just like a Homer every at bat.
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: So yeah, I agree, there's nothing redeeming. I think the
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: Nick cast Ayano's profile right now brew who he's selling.
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: I am selling the fifth picture off of the board,
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: which is the reason I'm selling Mason Miller because he
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: is actually the fifth picture, not fifth closer, fifth pitcher
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: off of the board, and draft champions. I looked at
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: all drafts just to make sure I wasn't crazy, and
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: he was seven there. Uh so you're talking the second
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: the two three turn is where Mason Miller's going. And
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: don't be me wrong, Mason Miller's incredibly talented, incredibly talented, yes,
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: but this is also a guy that if you look
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: at injury risk, like his arm feels like it could
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: fall off tomorrow because he always was an injury guy
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: coming up. And the reason he's in the bullpen is
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: because he couldn't hand up the durability. And I I
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: I like the padres, but it feels like they're kind
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: of forgetting about that, and they seem like they're kind
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: of leaning more and more into him. And great, that's
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: great for saves, But if I'm looking at a guy
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: that has that risk. I will just wait a little
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: bit later and get myself a Kad Smith or Devin
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: Williams or something like that and feel like I've got
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: a guy that I'm not worried about from a health
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: perspective and could deliver pretty much the same results and
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: was like seven rounds later, uh type of thing. Maybe, Yeah,
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: Kate Smith's definitely probably seven rounds later. But you know,
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: you're you're talking Devin Williams, you know, double the ADP
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: for Mason Miller and you're still doing pretty well. So
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: not a bad guy out of the team, But that's
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: just too early for somebody that you're put in the
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: back in your bullpen and hoping he stays healthy.
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's fair. I mean, you also look
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: last year when he got in San Diego. In two months,
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: he pitched twenty two games and twenty three and a
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: third innings. That paces out to like sixty appearances and
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty innings out of Mason Miller. If
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: they do use him at some incredible rate, I am
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: worried about him snapping. So I think it's I think
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: it's fair that the talent is elite, but like the
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: risk is so huge, and Mason Mill.
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: Does it not feel like a Ryan Helsley trajectory, Like
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: this guy throws gas, but the arm we're just waiting
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: for once going to fall off and then eventually it will.
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: So it feels like, you know, it's not a fair comparison.
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Mason Miller, but it feels like it's that
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: same similar profile.
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, well my cell is different. It's somebody who
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: I think I've been selling for quite a while on
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: this podcast. It's Michael King that like, it's a guy
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: who's coming off shoulder and knee injuries that does not
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: bode well for the kinetic chain. And on top of
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: it all, like he only threw seventy three and a
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: third innings last year. How far the Padre is going
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: to push him now that they have him on a
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: pretty nice contract. It is player options for twenty seven
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: and twenty eight, but the Padres don't want to make
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: him exercise those player options because they blow out his arms.
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: So I don't know how far the Padres are going
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: to push him that all the projections are calling for
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: him that bounce back to around one hundred and fifty
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: innings or so, except for Zips, who I think is
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: picking it up. I don't think you get more than
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty ings out of Michael King this year.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: I mean, there's just too much risk. He's been a
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: guy who's been oft injured, was a converted reliever. I
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: think that that season we saw in twenty twenty four,
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: with the two ninety five ra over one hundred and
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: seventy three and two thirds innings, that's gonna be his
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: career best. I don't think it's ever gonna come near
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: that level again. And you're just asking for a whole
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: lot of risk out of Michael King for somebody who
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: is going right now around pick one thirty seven, which
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: when you look at like the like I said, with
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: the current projections and the way the values work out,
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: that it's a fair value. But I think that the
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: floor is way lower than other pictures that are going
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: in that range. And so I'm avoiding Michael King for
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: all those reasons going into twenty twenty.
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: Six, No no qualms about it. I love Michael King
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: from a skill perspective, but the even I and we've
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: talked about this podcast of somebody that will take like
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: every injury pitcher and hope for the best. I'm staying
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: away from Michael King.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, we got to the tailor's main event here,
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: saving maybe the best for last year. San Francisco Giants
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: are going to round up our entire major League preview
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: here as they have had quite the interesting offseason bringing
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: in a coach from the college ranks in Tony Vattello.
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: So I think that's gonna be really We've talked about
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: in this pod brew where like we don't really put
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: too much stock into manager changes, but this is the
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: one I am because I'm fascinating to see what Vitello
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: does with this roster, what he does from both a
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: motivation standpoint and just like a day in, day out
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: management standpoint, to see how aggressive he is and how
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: much he kind of pushes some of these players. So
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: I think there is a little bit of an X
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: factor to all these players on the on the roster
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: of like what will the new coaching staff do with
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: this roster and in the offseason it's been I think
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: a pretty successful one for me that like you, they
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: obviously added Raphael Devers last year, picked up loose A
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: Rise to bring him in and play second base, and
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: then You've also built out the back end of that
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: rotation with Tyler Molly Adrian Houser, and it's gonna be
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: I think a fast season here for twenty twenty six
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: for the lot for the San Francisco Giants here coming
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: off of a perfectly five hundred season, but I think
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: there is upside here. Especially I forgot Harrison Bader. I
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: think that is going to be a huge factor for
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: this team too. Having a solid center fielder is going
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: to make a world of difference I think for this
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: team overall. For really, they've been struggling to find one
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: over the past few years. So Taylor, I mean, how
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: are you feeling about your Giants going into twenty twenty six. Yeah,
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: cautiously optimistic.
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: I would have liked them to spend a little bit
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: more money this offseason, but I like the acquisitions they made.
- 1:28:39Speaker 4: You know, they're all kind of low cost acquisitions, but
- 1:28:42Speaker 4: all of them make the team better. And I agree
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: with you, like the better signing for center field is
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: definitely something they needed.
- 1:28:48Speaker 3: Like Jung Hu Lee, He's.
- 1:28:50Speaker 4: Not a center fielder, It just it really solidifies that
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: outfield defense with a pitching staff that's really not going
- 1:28:58Speaker 4: to strike a lot of people out a pitch to
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: contact staff. We'll see how you know Luisa Rias's defense
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: works at second base. That's a little concerning when again,
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: you have that pitch to contact staff. But I overall,
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: I think it was a solid offseason and I think
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: they're better this year than they were going to last year,
- 1:29:18Speaker 4: particularly with the Dever's acquisition.
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: Like you mentioned, well, yeah, I mean now that Luisa
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: Rise is a power hitter, as we've seen in the WBC,
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: so maybe, I mean, it doesn't even matter what the
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: defense is at second base if he turns in to
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: the second coming of dan Ugla.
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not holding my breath.
- 1:29:34Speaker 4: On that one.
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: Okay. So who are you gonna buy here from the Giants?
- 1:29:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm gonna go a little bit prospected here and
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: go with Bryce Eldridge. So ADP of three seventy nine,
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: and he's definitely in that post hype territory. I'm honestly
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: really surprised he's not getting more hype. You look at
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: you know what he did last year he made his debut.
- 1:29:56Speaker 4: It was bad, just a one oh seven batting average,
- 1:29:59Speaker 4: fifty four WRC plus. But you look at the underlying
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: and it was ninety five point six average TV, twenty
- 1:30:05Speaker 4: five percent barrel rate, sixty nine percent hard hit rate,
- 1:30:08Speaker 4: three sixty two x will but five oh six x LUG. Again,
- 1:30:12Speaker 4: it's a ten game sample, so you can't buy into
- 1:30:14Speaker 4: it too much either way. But I think those kind
- 1:30:17Speaker 4: of power metrics, those quality contact metrics are what you
- 1:30:20Speaker 4: would expect with Bryce Elders because that's what he's known for.
- 1:30:23Speaker 4: I mean, this is a guy with light tower power,
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: some of the best power in the game for a prospect.
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: Uh and you know, just to throw this on top
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: of that ten game sample, that one oh seven batting
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: average was with that one to eighty eight Babbitt, So
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: I think that was definitely part of what makes it
- 1:30:37Speaker 4: look so bad. But you know, people who are skeptical
- 1:30:41Speaker 4: of Eldridge will say, yeah, but he was pretty mote
- 1:30:43Speaker 4: mediocre and triple a one oh five WRC plus.
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:30:47Speaker 4: He was also twenty years old in playing through a
- 1:30:49Speaker 4: wrist injury last year, so that came out this offseason
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: he had dealt with. I guess the risk injury all
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: last year held him back. He addressed it with off
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: season surgery. Should be good to go for Open Day.
- 1:31:01Speaker 4: You know, again, detractors will look at the contact, the
- 1:31:05Speaker 4: zone contact, the strikeout rates and say, yeah, these there's
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: some red flags here. But you look at elite power hitters,
- 1:31:12Speaker 4: they can live with, you know, pretty poor contact rates,
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: pretty poor zone contact rates. Like even some of the
- 1:31:18Speaker 4: best hitters in the game judge and show, Hey, you
- 1:31:21Speaker 4: look at their uh, their metrics in those areas and
- 1:31:24Speaker 4: they're actually pretty bad. So you know, I think you
- 1:31:28Speaker 4: got to give Eldridge some some time too, because this
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: is the guy who's super young. He was a two
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: way player when he was drafted, uh, just two seasons
- 1:31:37Speaker 4: removed from that. You know, he look at what he's
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: done so far this spring, it's a near one thousand
- 1:31:42Speaker 4: ops great quality of contact metrics, thirty two strikeout rate
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: so far in this spring. But that comes with massively
- 1:31:51Speaker 4: improved swinging strike rate, massively improved contact rate, and massively
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: improved zone contact rate. And you know, the only other
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: kind of thing holding back is that he's only ut eligible,
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: but he's actually really improved his first base defense this
- 1:32:08Speaker 4: offseason working with Ron Washington, and I think like that,
- 1:32:12Speaker 4: and he has even said he wants to win a
- 1:32:13Speaker 4: Gold Glove like defense is a big priority for him,
- 1:32:16Speaker 4: so I think he's going to be a guy who
- 1:32:19Speaker 4: is probably going to play first base on most days
- 1:32:21Speaker 4: while Devers DH is. Now he hasn't officially made the team,
- 1:32:24Speaker 4: there's been some talk that, oh, they might send him down.
- 1:32:27Speaker 4: I just don't see that happening, because are you really
- 1:32:29Speaker 4: going to start like Gerar and Karnacion at DH over
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: Bryce Eldridge being there as a defensive upgrade at first base,
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: and he's PPI eligible, so people forget about the prospect
- 1:32:40Speaker 4: promotion instead of at least I think he's PPI eligible.
- 1:32:44Speaker 4: It's very confusing rules, but from what I could tell,
- 1:32:46Speaker 4: he is PPI eligible, He's on the rankings list. He's
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: still prospect eligible. If he starts the year on the
- 1:32:53Speaker 4: opening day roster and he wins the Rookie of the
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: Year or some of those other accolades, the Giants can
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: benefit from that. So I think it's something that is
- 1:33:02Speaker 4: not being talked about enough. Vitelo hasn't really given a
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: straight answer if he's going to be on the team
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: or not. He says, well, it depends on what he does.
- 1:33:09Speaker 4: But he's doing everything he can to make the team,
- 1:33:11Speaker 4: and I just don't see the giants holding him down.
- 1:33:14Speaker 4: After he made his debut, he looks ready. Now he
- 1:33:17Speaker 4: might struggle out of the gate. You never know what
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: these prospects, but you know, going around pick four hundred,
- 1:33:24Speaker 4: huge power upside there. I mean this, you know, probably
- 1:33:27Speaker 4: doesn't have quite the same hit tool as Kurts, but
- 1:33:29Speaker 4: this could be like that Kurt's level impact of just
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: a guy who just torches major league pitching. So I'm
- 1:33:35Speaker 4: really excited about Bryce Eldridge. I think other people should
- 1:33:38Speaker 4: be excited about him too.
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: I think, yeah, you've sold me on him. I totally
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: had honestly kind of forgotten about him until you brought
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: him up, and now that I'm digging into him, he's
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: performing this spring. The other thing is what I like
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: about his profile is that it's a walk rate where
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: you worry sometimes with these power hitters that like there's
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: a combination of fear and minor leagues or they're just
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: not swinging, they're being too passive. But it is a
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: legit good eye from Bryce Eldridge that the o swing
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: percentages is good like it's he I think he knows
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: the zone pretty well despite him being huge, and just
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: is able to lay off the thing that all the junks.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: So yeah, you've told me, I'm actually like starring this
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: for all my future drasticas I wish I had picked
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: up a couple of uh Bryce Eldridge draft picks in
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: what I've already gone through. So thanks, Brew, Who are
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: you buying?
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: Well?
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: Taylor? Taylor called him out multiple times in his uh
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: Eldridge buy and it's it's rough, he dovers, and I
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: it's as a very simple buy. He wasn't any different
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: San Francisco than he wasn't Boston. But yet it feels
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: like he's dropped like three rounds in ADP. He's the
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: seventh first baseman off the board. He's going after medals
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: and Ben Rice and Bright Harper, all these we're talking
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: pick like sixty five, and I just don't get it.
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: This is a guy that, like, if you just looked
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: the last four years in like average amount, it's like
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: thirty homers one hundred RBIs to sixty five average something
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: like that. Yeah, average was a little bit down last year,
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: but he just day in, day out, will continue to
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: produce and even though the ballpark's not as good, and
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: you know you can put all those things he did
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: just fine in San Francisco, and so I feel like
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: he's been given a penalty because he just isn't in
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: Boston anymore and the numbers just don't justify it, and
- 1:35:34Speaker 2: so like it's just a discount with an extremely high floor.
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: And so I have no idea why he's going so
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: late when you look at some of these positions, and
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: like after you know, even I mean arguably Laddie has
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: some concerns for me this year, like after vladd and Kurtz, Like,
- 1:35:52Speaker 2: I'm not too excited about most of these first basements.
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: Maybe Ben Rice, but that's a whole different. I'm excited
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: about the Ketcher ben Rice, not the first baseman Ben Rice.
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: And so I think that there is a lot of
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: profit to be had endeavors and it's already there. That's
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: not like he has to perform better this year. He's
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: just to do what he's been doing. So I don't
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: know what's what's happening in the market. People just seem
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: to have forgot him. It's the veteran thing. I mean,
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: the guy's still just twenty nine years old. I know
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: he's been around forever, but he just rakes and I
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: think he's got a chip on his shoulder, So let's
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: see what happens.
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I think people are probably scared of the park.
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: But when you've got Raphael Devers power, the park doesn't matter.
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: Yeah, it doesn't matter.
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: Well, you could probably have predicted my bye. It's going
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: to be Harrison Bader. We talked about it when he
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: signed here in San Francisco. That last year. I mean,
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: we saw the best year out of Harrison Bader, and
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: it wasn't a fluke that he purposely went through training
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: programs to increase the bat speed and to be more
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: aggressive at the plate, and it paid off with a
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: career high seventeen homers and a two seventy seven batting
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: average career high one twenty two WRC plus uh. And
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: he's doing in it again in spring right now for
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: the Giants. So he's got the everyday center field job
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: in San Francisco. He's gonna play every day because of that,
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: And I think this is the easiest fifteen to fifteen
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: season you could ever find for going late in the draft.
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: He's going around pick three point twenty on average. It's
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: starting to creep up because people, I think we're waiting
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: for him to obviously sign somewhere and land somewhere, and
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: now that they know he's not gonna be stuck in
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: a platoon situation or battling for playing time in center
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: field in San Francisco. I don't see how it's not
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: like a two seventy average with fifteen to fifteen plus upside, honestly,
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: because right now he is slated to kind of put
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: up those types of numbers in the seven hole for
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: the Giants here. You could see him moving up in
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: this lineup if he performs well and there's a one
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: twenty WRC plus guy again that I think it's gonna
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: be a fantastic gear for Harrison Vader. It's really setting
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: up for it to be that way. When you've got
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: a guy who has always had like a pretty good
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: eye at the plate and you allow him to just
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: kind of let it rip a little bit more. On
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: top of like, you get the the X factor of
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: the This is a guy who I think will play
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: with its hair on fire with Tony Vittello and Taylor
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: You and all the rest of the Giants fans are
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: gonna love Harrison Bader. This dude is just an all
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: time like ballplayer favorite of the fans that I think
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: he's going to be ingratiated in San Francisco. And if
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: there's a reason that San Francisco makes the playoffs, I
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: think Baiter is going to be a huge portion of that.
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: In twenty twenty six.
- 1:38:34Speaker 4: You got me hype now, I mean we're two weeks
- 1:38:37Speaker 4: out from opening day, let's go come on.
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it's something like a Harrison Bader MVP discussion. That's
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: why I like to see.
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: I love it. I just want to call it real quick.
- 1:38:48Speaker 4: I love that call because you know, doing like TGFBI,
- 1:38:52Speaker 4: you get past pick three hundred and every single outfielder
- 1:38:54Speaker 4: has PLATUWOT issues Like Harrison Bader is the one guy
- 1:38:57Speaker 4: sitting out there that you can be sure is if
- 1:38:59Speaker 4: he's he, he's gonna be in that lineup pretty much
- 1:39:01Speaker 4: every day.
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, because the defense is always going to play,
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: so that's gonna be crucial for him. Okay, I hate
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: to do it to you, Taylor, but who are you
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: going to sell from your giants?
- 1:39:11Speaker 3: This one hurts me. I really don't want to say this,
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: but it's logan.
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: Web uh pick fifty four. He is an ace. He's
- 1:39:21Speaker 4: just not a fantasy ace. In my mind, he's a
- 1:39:24Speaker 4: guy who his value is predicated on volume. It's not
- 1:39:28Speaker 4: going to be the strikeouts. It's not gonna be the
- 1:39:32Speaker 4: era will be good, but it's not gonna be like
- 1:39:34Speaker 4: sub three era. And that whip is actually gonna hurt
- 1:39:38Speaker 4: you with that volume because last couple seasons a whip
- 1:39:41Speaker 4: over one point two, and when you talk about potentially
- 1:39:45Speaker 4: two hundred plus innings of a one point two whip,
- 1:39:49Speaker 4: that is not gonna help your team. That's actually gonna
- 1:39:51Speaker 4: hurt your team. So I'm just not there with him
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: going where he's going. He's going thirty three picks in
- 1:39:59Speaker 4: ADP before Framber Valdez. Now that might be a little
- 1:40:02Speaker 4: closer in recent drafts, but like to me, they're basically
- 1:40:04Speaker 4: the same guy. I just don't I don't buy Logan
- 1:40:09Speaker 4: web going going that high.
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: Okay, I think that's fair, And especially when you add
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: in Louise Riya's at second base as a factor too,
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: that it's hard to see that whip getting better. So
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: brew who you selling from the Giants?
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: This is the most predictable cell for this podcast that
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: you'll you'll ever have because cool you mentioned him, Louis Arias,
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: I literally will sell Louise Aria's until he stops getting drafted,
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: because it just is it makes no sense. This is
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: a guy that you think is gonna hit form batting
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: average and he's okay one a guy that has no power.
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: I don't care what he's doing in WBC. He this
- 1:40:46Speaker 2: is a guy that like the over under for power
- 1:40:48Speaker 2: for the years like five five homers, and you know
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: he continues to be treated like he's doing more now
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: he is like the the ADP is much lower this
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: year than it has been in the past, but still
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: is a profile that you draft the guy and to
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: get the batting average like lift, he has to be
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: in the lineup every day and he hurts you so
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: bad in power and steals that and honestly rum production
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: because the guy slows molasses. You can't get knocked in
- 1:41:16Speaker 2: or knock a run in that like you're taking like
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: four l's for to get like a decent batting average.
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: I just I don't care what the price is. Louise
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: Aria's hurts your fantasy team, and yeah, sure he's entertaining
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: from a real world baseball perspective, and it's always nice
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: to have that guy who can try to poke the
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: single to the right side, but that's about all he is.
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: So I will sell Louise Ria's until you kick me
- 1:41:42Speaker 2: off this podcast.
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: I should have seen that coming, but yeah, I think
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: that's fair. I will say that like when you are
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: in Sharper drafts, like he will fall. Like in my TGFBI,
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: I almost took him, but it's because he was like
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: I was debating between him and Josh Smith as like
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: my ci am I like utility dude. And so when
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: you start to get that range, sure, Luisa Rise is fine,
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: but like it's always it is the guy when you
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: punch it into your auction values, he's gonna look way
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: better than he actually is because that batting average carries
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: so much weight in what you're looking at for the
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: way the auction calculators work as well as like the
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: volumes don't always come across right. So I would just
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: be cautious of that because like you can also look
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: back at some of the rasball player raiders over the years,
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: where like going into the season, he's projected for like
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: twelve dollars because of like with the the actual like
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: projections and value say, but he always ends up being
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: like a five dollars player, because he just kills you
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: in so many categories that aren't batting average. Okay, well,
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: I had a different cell mind's Ryan Walker. So it's
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: just I don't trust the profile. He lost the job
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: last year, didn't really correct course too much, like he
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: was still kind of struggling with getting the strikeouts and
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: just kind of being a steady reliever, and by default
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: is now the closer because we have Randy Rodriguez out
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: for the year with elbow surgery, so I think there's
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: some pretty solid arms behind him between I really I
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: think Gregory Santos has looked really good the spring, and
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: Gregory Santos has got a decent shot at overtaking Ryan Walker.
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: Jose Bhuto is back there, and then this also just
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: strikes me as like this is where I expect Tony
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: Vittello's magic to kind of come through, where like I
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: think he's going to be able to find a guy
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: and just like trust in him and be able to
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: ride him and use a little bit of that devil
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: magic that might come from college to be able to
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: find a new closer. So I'm just really worried about
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: Ryan Walker, especially because like the way that Buster Posey
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: has been kind of framing this team and setting everything up.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: Is that, like I think he thinks it's a contender.
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: And so if Ryan Walker stumbles out the gate again
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: the way that he did last year, you're gonna see
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: him yanked out of that role, I think pretty quickly.
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: And so yeah, I just don't really trust in him.
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: And in terms of where he's going in overall ADP,
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: it's just smack dab in like the middle of second closers.
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: You can find a much better, steadier closer who provides
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: I think better strikeout upside than what Walker does.
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: No, I have no problem withism because I actually had
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: him as my original cell and then I went down
- 1:44:30Speaker 2: the ADP and saw Luis Rias and just like I
- 1:44:32Speaker 2: started to cringe and twitch a little bit. So I
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: had had to go there. But yeah, you're right, like
- 1:44:36Speaker 2: Ryan Walker of like two years ago I loved and
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: he just he feels like he's dropped something off of
- 1:44:41Speaker 2: that and I just haven't seen him get it back
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: I have. You know, I'm more willing to give him
- 1:44:45Speaker 2: a flyer, but I'm concerned about him. I just look
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: at the rest of the bullpen. I'm not seeing a
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: whole lot other than I'm like, yeah, then I want
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: to take that chance on. So I think he's going
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: to get a pretty good run out of it. But
- 1:44:57Speaker 2: it's not the guy that I really like. Give him
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: as my third closure, I'm just not I don't really
- 1:45:02Speaker 2: want to anchor myself on Ryan Walker.
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay, well that wraps us up. We did it.
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: We've gotten through all the teams. Taylor. Thanks for joining
