- 0:31Speaker 1: Of course, Ross anchoring our coverage for Louisiana Sports dot
- 0:34Speaker 1: net and the Locked On Saints podcast.
- 0:37Speaker 2: How are you, dude, hey man? Doing great? Glad to
- 0:39Speaker 2: be here with you, Appreciate having well.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Thanks for the time. Okay, let's go with the President
- 0:43Speaker 1: and then we'll kind of work our way back.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:45Speaker 1: What's the absolute latest on Saints coaching? Starts here today Monday.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yeah, So latest thing right now is that after having
- 0:54Speaker 2: done their in person interviews with Anthony Weaver, Darren Rizzi
- 0:57Speaker 2: as well as Mike Kafka, and next interview is expected
- 1:01Speaker 2: to be the Saints flying to Philadelphia to hold their
- 1:05Speaker 2: in person interview with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.
- 1:09Speaker 2: The expectation is that after that, the Saints would potentially
- 1:13Speaker 2: go forth with an interview with Michael McCarthy, a guy
- 1:16Speaker 2: that was immediately considered a front runner in the conversation
- 1:19Speaker 2: but has not had any interview with New Orleans. And
- 1:23Speaker 2: apparently a part of that comes from and this was
- 1:25Speaker 2: Nick Underhill of what New Orleans that football. Apparently a
- 1:28Speaker 2: big part of that is that they wanted to wrap
- 1:29Speaker 2: up their interview with Kellen Moore and then kind of
- 1:31Speaker 2: see where everythings go. Makes sense prioritize the guys that
- 1:34Speaker 2: have been a part of your process from the very beginning,
- 1:35Speaker 2: and then add new names after you've already spoken with them.
- 1:39Speaker 2: But I do think that that's also indicative of how
- 1:41Speaker 2: serious the interest may be for New Orleans when it
- 1:44Speaker 2: comes to Kellen Moore, if they do fine that he's
- 1:46Speaker 2: a good fit. So that interview is expected to take
- 1:48Speaker 2: place early this week, So that could be happening as
- 1:52Speaker 2: we speak, could be happening tomorrow. We'll see. But that's
- 1:55Speaker 2: going to be the next big interview for New Orleans
- 1:57Speaker 2: is a pretty outstanding offensive mind Kellen Moore, but you
- 2:01Speaker 2: just got to learn a little bit more about what
- 2:02Speaker 2: he would be like as a head coach.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Russ am I wrong to say, like it didn't seem
- 2:05Speaker 1: like we were talking much about Kellen Moore until after
- 2:08Speaker 1: the Eagles went and put up fifty five in the
- 2:10Speaker 1: NFC Championship Game. Is this a sort of a prisoner
- 2:13Speaker 1: of the moment thing for the Saints?
- 2:15Speaker 2: A little bit of it could be a little bit
- 2:17Speaker 2: of a what have you done for me lately kind
- 2:20Speaker 2: of a situation, But like the Saints have had, them
- 2:23Speaker 2: have had Kellen Moore on the list for a while.
- 2:25Speaker 2: He did a virtual interview with him weeks ago, as
- 2:28Speaker 2: well as did Joe Brady before he eventually ended up
- 2:32Speaker 2: withdrawing from the search. But I think when it comes
- 2:34Speaker 2: to Kellen Moore, a big part of it in terms
- 2:37Speaker 2: of the timing, really just comes down to when is
- 2:38Speaker 2: he available to do the in person interview. Because of
- 2:41Speaker 2: how long Philadelphia season has become with them going to
- 2:44Speaker 2: the Super Bowl, this was the earliest possible moment where
- 2:47Speaker 2: they could do an in person interview with him, And
- 2:50Speaker 2: I don't think that a loss to the Washington commanders
- 2:53Speaker 2: would have changed their interests. So I think some of
- 2:56Speaker 2: it is timeline. I think that's some of the excitement
- 2:58Speaker 2: that you're seeing around. It could be very much prison
- 3:01Speaker 2: for them.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Is again, look at odds and like Mike McCarthy's at
- 3:07Speaker 1: the top of them. Now, like a do you believe
- 3:09Speaker 1: that Mike McCarthy is the number one target like we
- 3:13Speaker 1: all believe Aaron Glenn at one point was I.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Don't know if I can really say that, if I'm
- 3:19Speaker 2: being honest, like, I don't think that I could say
- 3:20Speaker 2: that he's the number one target because if he was
- 3:22Speaker 2: the number one target, he's been available since the moment
- 3:24Speaker 2: that he walked away from the Dallas Cowboys on what
- 3:28Speaker 2: was at the fourteenth or whatever, when his contract expired,
- 3:31Speaker 2: and so the Dallas Cowboys didn't make that hard for him.
- 3:34Speaker 2: They sat on their hands for eight days and before
- 3:36Speaker 2: they eventually started having conversations with him, and then before
- 3:39Speaker 2: they even got to negotiations, apparently Mike McCarthy and Jerry
- 3:43Speaker 2: Jones had decided that it was best for them to
- 3:45Speaker 2: part ways, which is pretty indicative of Mike McCarthy saying,
- 3:47Speaker 2: dah fam, I'm good and then maybe decided that he's
- 3:50Speaker 2: going to go and see what else is out there.
- 3:52Speaker 2: He had the interviews very quickly with the Chicago Bears,
- 3:54Speaker 2: and I thinks didn't really push on any of that.
- 3:57Speaker 2: And they have prioritized the guys had been a part
- 3:59Speaker 2: of their since from the very beginning. Anthony Weaver, Mike Copka,
- 4:03Speaker 2: Kellen Moore, all that before they've even gone down the
- 4:06Speaker 2: road with Mike McCarty. So he could be a front
- 4:09Speaker 2: runner in terms of the guy that makes the most sense.
- 4:11Speaker 2: He's the safest, higher, impacts your floor without necessarily shooting
- 4:15Speaker 2: you through the ceiling. By the impacts your floor quite
- 4:17Speaker 2: a bit. But the things don't seem to be in
- 4:20Speaker 2: a rush there, And the way that they've waited for
- 4:22Speaker 2: Kellen Moore seems to indicate that the actual waiting for
- 4:25Speaker 2: Kellen Moore is more indicative of interest than maybe what
- 4:29Speaker 2: the pursuit of Mike McCarthy might say at this point.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Ross Jackson on Twitter at Ross Jackson, Nola, Joe Brady
- 4:39Speaker 1: deciding to remain at Buffalo. I look at this, there's
- 4:43Speaker 1: like one of three things going on. I'm curious what
- 4:45Speaker 1: you think it is. One he's not interested in the
- 4:49Speaker 1: Saints job. Two he's really just genuinely interested in staying
- 4:54Speaker 1: in Buffalo in that really good situation, or you know, three,
- 5:00Speaker 1: it could also be a situation where I don't know,
- 5:07Speaker 1: like maybe he wasn't going to get the Saints job,
- 5:11Speaker 1: and so sometimes guys have an opportunity if they're not
- 5:14Speaker 1: going to get the job, that they say, you know,
- 5:16Speaker 1: I'm withdrawing from consideration sort of for the optics of it.
- 5:20Speaker 1: What do you think about what happened here with or
- 5:23Speaker 1: what do you know about what happened here with the
- 5:24Speaker 1: Brady situation?
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you hear a lot of the conversation
- 5:29Speaker 2: being that he stayed in or we're hearing a lot
- 5:31Speaker 2: of the conversation that he stayed in Buffalo more because
- 5:36Speaker 2: of Buffalo than anything having to do with the New
- 5:39Speaker 2: Orleans Saints. That his decision wasn't about New Orleans, but
- 5:42Speaker 2: was about his situation and the comfort that he has
- 5:47Speaker 2: in Buffalo. There's probably truth to that, But look, I
- 5:51Speaker 2: think that that still says the same thing. It still
- 5:53Speaker 2: says that those staying in Buffalo was a better opportunity
- 5:56Speaker 2: for him than taking the head coaching job in New Orleans. Right,
- 5:59Speaker 2: It says it says the same thing. It's just it's
- 6:01Speaker 2: the difference between saying that shirt doesn't look good on
- 6:04Speaker 2: you versus you don't look good in that shirt, right,
- 6:06Speaker 2: Like they say it's the same thing, but he's just
- 6:09Speaker 2: saying it a little nicer, you know. So I think
- 6:11Speaker 2: like the reality is the reality. Like the Saints have
- 6:14Speaker 2: to sell their situation, and if you can't adequately sell
- 6:17Speaker 2: that situation, then the situation that somebody is coming from
- 6:20Speaker 2: the originating situation is going to be more appealing. And
- 6:22Speaker 2: I think that's all that happened in this show Brady situation,
- 6:25Speaker 2: and the sting for New Orleans has to be around
- 6:28Speaker 2: the idea that, like, this is a guy that used
- 6:30Speaker 2: to be in your building and that has been a
- 6:32Speaker 2: part of your culture, that's been a part of your organization,
- 6:35Speaker 2: and didn't give you the in person interview. I think
- 6:38Speaker 2: that's kind of the thing. Now. The third option that
- 6:40Speaker 2: you mentioned is interesting and could be the taste where
- 6:43Speaker 2: maybe he felt that, hey, I know that kelln Lare
- 6:46Speaker 2: maybe is actually a favorite in this conversation or Mike
- 6:48Speaker 2: McCarthy's lingering or whatever, I might not get this job.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I'm going to be the hottest name next season. I
- 6:55Speaker 2: don't want to ruin that by being the guy that
- 6:56Speaker 2: got passed on, So let me protect my stock, and
- 7:00Speaker 2: that could very well be a way that it goes
- 7:03Speaker 2: or that that win as well. Raw.
- 7:04Speaker 1: So there are other names we should be talking about
- 7:07Speaker 1: right now? The answer might be no, But is there
- 7:09Speaker 1: anybody else worth noting?
- 7:11Speaker 2: I don't know that anybody's going to enter the conversation
- 7:15Speaker 2: late at this point. Right The thinks are kind of
- 7:17Speaker 2: there's still a ticking clock here with building the rest
- 7:20Speaker 2: of the staff around New Orleans that you've already seen.
- 7:23Speaker 2: They're going to need a new offensive coordator where he
- 7:25Speaker 2: knew they were going to need a new defensive coordator.
- 7:26Speaker 2: If Anthony Rizzy isn't the high issue me, if Darren
- 7:29Speaker 2: Rizzy isn't the higher, then they're going to need a
- 7:30Speaker 2: new special teams coordator because it's not like he's going
- 7:33Speaker 2: to stick around and take a demotion to stay in
- 7:35Speaker 2: New Orleans and all those things. And so I think
- 7:37Speaker 2: that's that's maybe a little bit of the rush. So
- 7:39Speaker 2: I don't know that there's really an opportunity to add
- 7:41Speaker 2: new names. Should we be talking about more names? I
- 7:44Speaker 2: would say yes to that because you would imagine that
- 7:46Speaker 2: this search would have been a little bit more widespread,
- 7:48Speaker 2: Guys like Cod Monkin, guys like Brian Flores and some
- 7:51Speaker 2: of these others out there that would have been good
- 7:54Speaker 2: candidates that weren't seemingly a part of the search. I
- 7:57Speaker 2: think that's where we can say, like, yeah, there should
- 7:59Speaker 2: be more names, But at this point, I don't think
- 8:01Speaker 2: you're going to see new names added. The one and
- 8:02Speaker 2: only name that could potentially be added now is Cliff Kingsbury,
- 8:05Speaker 2: who said he was going to wait till the Washingt
- 8:07Speaker 2: commanders are no longer competing to kind of weigh his
- 8:09Speaker 2: options for his future. And so we'll see if he
- 8:11Speaker 2: ends up doing that, but I think he's primed to
- 8:13Speaker 2: go right back to Washington. Why would you leave that situation?
- 8:16Speaker 2: And so I think that's that might be the one
- 8:19Speaker 2: name that we could add to the list, or see
- 8:21Speaker 2: the Saints add to the list, But at this point
- 8:23Speaker 2: I don't expect that.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Do you have a timeline that the Saints would follow
- 8:27Speaker 1: to make this higher.
- 8:29Speaker 2: I think the timeline that makes sense right now would
- 8:31Speaker 2: be at some point late this week, and now it's
- 8:34Speaker 2: going to depend on who they're hiring. Right, if they're
- 8:38Speaker 2: hiring Kellen Moore, then late in the week you could
- 8:41Speaker 2: potentially get a report that says the Saints are expected
- 8:44Speaker 2: to hire Kellen Moore after the super Bowl, because he
- 8:47Speaker 2: can't actually make it official until after the super Bowl
- 8:50Speaker 2: has concluded. So I think the thing that I look
- 8:52Speaker 2: at here is a potential indicator of interest in Kellen
- 8:55Speaker 2: Moore is how far this pushes towards the end of
- 8:58Speaker 2: the week before any kind of announcement is made. In
- 9:00Speaker 2: my opinion, the later that this goes, the more likely
- 9:03Speaker 2: it's Kellen Moore. But otherwise, right after this interview is
- 9:06Speaker 2: done with Kellen Moore, and then if an interview happens
- 9:09Speaker 2: with Mike McCarthy, once that's done, the Saints would be
- 9:11Speaker 2: free to hire any of those other four candidates, Rizzy Weaver, Kafka, McCarthy.
- 9:16Speaker 2: So I would expect something later on this week, but
- 9:19Speaker 2: I will say that the later it goes, the more
- 9:21Speaker 2: likely it is that it might be Kellen Moore.
- 9:24Speaker 1: A couple more for you you mentioned obviously point Kubiak leaving.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Is Michael Hodges, the linebacker's coach today head of Cincinnati
- 9:36Speaker 1: as well. I mean Ross, I'll look at that, and
- 9:38Speaker 1: I go, makes sense. These guys aren't gonna have a
- 9:39Speaker 1: job in New Orleans, are going to take other jobs.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Should we make anything of these guys leaving to take
- 9:44Speaker 1: other jobs right now before a new coach is hired
- 9:46Speaker 1: in New Orleans?
- 9:47Speaker 2: I don't think so. I think that those guys were
- 9:49Speaker 2: going to be I think I'm with you. I think
- 9:51Speaker 2: those guys had no guarantees in New Orleans at this point.
- 9:55Speaker 2: New head coach that could potentially be an offensive mind
- 9:59Speaker 2: in Kunging, new defensive coordinator incoming, those guys maybe didn't
- 10:03Speaker 2: have a future in New Orleans anyway. Thanks for Kin Kubiak,
- 10:07Speaker 2: who again is a one and done, but at least
- 10:10Speaker 2: he's leaving for another offensive coordinator situation over in Seattle,
- 10:13Speaker 2: in a good situation over there. So I think that
- 10:16Speaker 2: the indicator for me when it comes to Kubiak is
- 10:18Speaker 2: that he was given the opportunity to go and do
- 10:21Speaker 2: that Cleveland Brown's interview when he was considered the favorite there.
- 10:24Speaker 2: He was given the opportunity to go and do two
- 10:26Speaker 2: interviews with the Seattle Seahawks. I think that kind of
- 10:28Speaker 2: says where this was heading from the very beginning, and
- 10:32Speaker 2: those interviews are granted to him. Well before things kind
- 10:35Speaker 2: of progressed in the New Orleans stakes head coach and search,
- 10:38Speaker 2: so I think he was probably already on those way out.
- 10:40Speaker 2: And then Michael Hodges was a really sootherid linebackers coach
- 10:44Speaker 2: under Dennis Allen, but his only pro experience has been
- 10:47Speaker 2: under Dinna Sallen. Dennis Allen's not in the building anymore,
- 10:50Speaker 2: and so Michael Hodges now gets the opportunity to go
- 10:53Speaker 2: somewhere where somebody where he knows, somebody who wants them
- 10:56Speaker 2: now gets to go and work over there with the
- 10:59Speaker 2: biggest former former Notre Dame thee Yeah, Al Golden, thank you,
- 11:06Speaker 2: and he gets the show like, hey, he's the guy
- 11:08Speaker 2: that's gotten looks as a defensive coordinator. He gets to say, hey,
- 11:10Speaker 2: here's what I could do, not under Dennis Allen, not
- 11:13Speaker 2: with the New Land Saints organization, which could help to
- 11:15Speaker 2: push that stock back for him in terms of being
- 11:18Speaker 2: a potential defensive coordinator in this future.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Ross Jackson Rust Louisiana Sports on net and the Lockdown
- 11:23Speaker 1: Saints podcast inmobile for the Senior Bowl sixty seconds or last,
- 11:27Speaker 1: what are the top of the funnel storylines for the
- 11:31Speaker 1: Saints Inmobile this week.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're watching edge rusher positions. I think
- 11:35Speaker 2: you're watching wide receiver positions. I think quarterback can be
- 11:37Speaker 2: very interesting because the Saints in the last three three
- 11:40Speaker 2: of their last four drafts have taken a quarterback that
- 11:42Speaker 2: performed in this Senior Bowl. So that's going to be
- 11:44Speaker 2: a big one to watch as well. And then outside
- 11:45Speaker 2: of that, like remember, the Senior Bowl is an opportunity
- 11:48Speaker 2: for you to also kind of rub shoulders and everything
- 11:51Speaker 2: like that and kind of get some of this conversation
- 11:54Speaker 2: with some of these other coaches and things like that too,
- 11:56Speaker 2: So I would expect that to be a big part
- 11:57Speaker 2: of it. But I was like Prince Llamonniellen out of
- 11:59Speaker 2: all miss big names to watch this weekend and looking
- 12:03Speaker 2: for your typical kind of Saints draft picks as they
- 12:05Speaker 2: love their Senior Bowl prospect.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Please make sure t Bob doesn't get arrested.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I will do my best. Now, I can't make that promise.
- 12:13Speaker 2: I'll make the promise that I'll try.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Between you and Rivers, I can do it. I'm hoping
- 12:19Speaker 1: and and Jake there as well. Yeah, but really, you
- 12:23Speaker 1: and Rivers being the adults in the room, really really
- 12:26Speaker 1: really need help, just to.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Make sure I'm more I'm more confident in rivers than
- 12:31Speaker 2: I am and myself. But the combination of rivers and
- 12:33Speaker 2: I think we can do it all right.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Ross Jackson on Twitter at Ross Jackson, Nolan fangs.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Man, Thanks buddy, appreciate it. Jously say I have taltee
- 12:40Speaker 2: Sai
