- 0:11Glorious worship. Would you agree?
- 0:13Amen. Well, meet me in the word of God
- 0:17as we continue to worship. Through the hearing and the
- 0:20receiving of God's word and second Timothy chapter 3 and a
- 0:25very well-known passage of scripture.
- 0:29Beginning here in verse 16. Would you pray with me one more
- 0:39time, please. Lord, this is a familiar passage
- 0:45of scripture. And we are in danger of allowing
- 0:50familiarity to breed a contempt, but we ask Lord that you would
- 0:55give us fresh Revelation and that it would speak to our
- 0:59hearts, our hearts would be moved.
- 1:01And Lord May the goal made the result of such a time together
- 1:05in your word cause us to love your word to reverence it to
- 1:11stand in all of it. Oh God.
- 1:14Lord help us not fall into the Trap that this word though.
- 1:17It is common though, here, week after week though, it occupies
- 1:20many of our shelves and our nightstands Lord.
- 1:23May it be seen today as what it is, the Living Word of God?
- 1:29Oh Lord. Speak to your people.
- 1:30Speak to us, reveal yourself to us.
- 1:32Touch us draws closer to the person of Jesus Christ and your
- 1:37name. We ask these things humbly
- 1:38desperately. Amen.
- 1:40And amen. And amen.
- 1:43Verse 16 of 2nd. Timothy chapter 3, reeds.
- 1:47All scripture. Is breathed out by God.
- 1:52And profitable for teaching, for reproof for correction, and for
- 1:57training in righteousness. That the man of God, may be
- 2:02complete equipped for every good work.
- 2:06I think we should read these verses one more time.
- 2:08All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching,
- 2:16for reproof for correction, and for training in righteousness.
- 2:21That the man Of God, may be complete equipped for every good
- 2:27work. Our time in this precious
- 2:31epistle, is coming to a near end, as we are approaching the
- 2:35last chapter of Paul's final letter before his death.
- 2:40But before we transition into his concluding thoughts, we are
- 2:43going to focus, our attention and plant ourselves.
- 2:47And one of the most familiar and often quoted passages of all the
- 2:50Bible. These two short verses
- 2:55powerfully described and defined for us, the authority of God's
- 2:59word, its nature, its function and its ability to change lives.
- 3:05Now remember the context. Remember what Timothy was facing
- 3:09the challenges of his day. Let's look at what is happening
- 3:14around. These verses to help us
- 3:15understand exactly why Paul is saying these things.
- 3:19Timothy was facing primarily false, Teachers who are emerging
- 3:23and they are presenting new ideas and New Concepts and
- 3:26twisted versions of the scripture or total dismissal the
- 3:29word of God all together. Therefore, Paul is going to
- 3:33remind this young disciple of the divine origins of his
- 3:37beliefs and now because this is supremely given to us by God,
- 3:44that it triumphs over every man-made concept.
- 3:47No matter how persuasive or beneficial in might be.
- 3:51He wants him to see how this word is above all else.
- 3:56Secondly, as we hear look at verse 13 again, while evil
- 4:00people and Impostors Will Go On from bad to worse.
- 4:03Deceiving and being deceived there is going to be a new
- 4:06effort now to rebel against God, and that's only going to grow as
- 4:10we approach the return of Christ and sinning against one another.
- 4:14So there is this corruption that will increase.
- 4:17Therefore Paul is going to tell his young disciple how he can
- 4:21Grow in the opposite direction. How he can go from glory to
- 4:26glory from Faith to Faith from love to love and it is found,
- 4:30he's going to be reminded. It is found in your engagement
- 4:33your absorb, some your, your obedience to the written word of
- 4:37God. This is going to be a little
- 4:40different Sunday service than usual because it's going to
- 4:44demand you to be more attentive with the references that are
- 4:47going to be brought to you. I hope you have your Bibles
- 4:50firmly in your hands because in this particular message, I'm
- 4:53going to do a lot less talking explaining commentating and a
- 4:57lot more pointing to versus and a lot more putting verses
- 5:01together for you to see the two main points of this message and
- 5:05that is this number one, the authority of the word of God.
- 5:09The authority of the word of God.
- 5:11Is this? Just another book?
- 5:13Among many other books? No, you're going to discover
- 5:15that this is in fact, the very word of the Living.
- 5:19God number two, not just the authority but the ability.
- 5:24What can this word do? It can do what no other book can
- 5:26do. And that is transform lives
- 5:29miraculously as we engage with him.
- 5:33The authority of God's word. We read here.
- 5:38All scripture is breathed out by God.
- 5:43What is scripture? What is Paul referring to here?
- 5:47Well, surely we heard last week in verse 15 that there are these
- 5:51things called the sacred writings, and that is a
- 5:54beautiful way of describing. The Old Testament library that
- 5:57you have in your Bible and that the Jews share with us and they
- 6:00would call it the Tanakh and though they have different
- 6:03orders of the books, the content is still the same and this is
- 6:07what is known as scripture. This is what is known as the
- 6:10word of God. This is, what is known as the
- 6:12sacred writings, but what's different between us and the As
- 6:15you know, is that we have an additional Library.
- 6:17It is the New Testament Library, it doesn't contradict the old.
- 6:20It is built upon the old. It is the Revelation that God
- 6:23further is from the old Covenant and fulfills So the question is
- 6:29begged this morning. Well what about that?
- 6:32What about the New Testament books?
- 6:34Are those just as authoritative? Are they just as much breathed
- 6:37out by God and the sacred writings?
- 6:42And the best way to answer that is to see what Jesus Christ said
- 6:46about his own words and to see what the apostles were
- 6:49commissioned by the Lord, Jesus Christ believed about their own
- 6:53writings. And once we see that, we are
- 6:55realize that there is a Harmony not The harmony, but there is
- 6:58equal value, equal authority, to both Testaments.
- 7:02We should comfort our souls. And so the first place, I would
- 7:06encourage you to turn to in your Bibles is actually two places.
- 7:09You're going to have one hand tucked in the Old Testament.
- 7:11Another hand tucked in the new and the old you're going to turn
- 7:14to Deuteronomy chapter 18 in the new, you're going to tuck your
- 7:18hand into John chapter 5. beginning in verse 46, There's
- 7:25all scripture include the New Testament or is it limited to
- 7:28the prophets of old? Let's see what the Lord Jesus
- 7:31Christ said in John chapter 5 verse 46 to 47.
- 7:39John chapter 5. I always encourage you to bring
- 7:46your Bible so that you can see the word for yourself.
- 7:50And you can have a mental map of your own Bible.
- 7:52You can get to the point where you read your Bible so much
- 7:54where you may not know their reference be like, I know, it's
- 7:56in this side of the page on that side.
- 7:58Have anybody else relate to that?
- 8:00Yeah, that's the beauty of God's word.
- 8:02When you have a copy of it verse 46, for if you this is Jesus
- 8:07speaking for. If you believed Moses, you would
- 8:11believe me for he wrote of me, but if Do not believe his
- 8:16writings. How will you believe my words?
- 8:22The first thing to observe here is that Jesus Christ.
- 8:25Testifies that Moses who is revered by the Jews.
- 8:29Obviously, the mediator of their Covenant, Moses wrote of Jesus
- 8:35Christ, and there are many references to that, some Shadows
- 8:40some types, but there is the most famous the most known
- 8:43prediction of the person of Jesus Christ, hundreds of years
- 8:47before his Incarnation, and that is where your hand is in the Old
- 8:50Testament and Deuteronomy chapter 18 and beginning.
- 8:53In verse 15, we read Moses, speaking to the nation of Israel
- 8:58saying, the Lord your God will raise up for you.
- 9:03A prophet like me from among you.
- 9:07From your brother's it is to him, you shall listen, the
- 9:11Muslims love to use the scripture to say that it speaks
- 9:14of Muhammad that he is that Prophet to come.
- 9:16And you can just simply answer by saying, so, is he among the
- 9:19Jews? I don't know.
- 9:20Muhammad was a Jew because it says from among you from your
- 9:22brother's it kind of closes the conversation very quickly.
- 9:27But look at this part, it is to him.
- 9:30You shall listen. That's important because this
- 9:34future Prophet who will be like Moses will have something very
- 9:38important to say and it will call for the people to pay
- 9:41attention to what he has to say. Notice that Moses says that
- 9:46there will be a prophet like me many prophets have come after
- 9:50Moses but there's going to be a particular messenger from God
- 9:54who be very much similar to this amazing man of God.
- 9:58Who had a unique relationship with God.
- 10:02What are the similarities between this future profit?
- 10:04As we know fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ and Moses
- 10:08will number one God himself testifies that he communicated
- 10:11to Moses in a way that he didn't with others face to face
- 10:14directly from God. He might say that God has done
- 10:17that with other prophets, but what makes Moses even more
- 10:20unique, are the Miracles that he performed the signs and the
- 10:22Wonders? And we see Jesus performing,
- 10:26very similar signs and wonders and miracles.
- 10:29In fact, the most common one is when he multiplied the bread and
- 10:32the fish, we're in the wilderness and the Jews,
- 10:36understanding this prophecy and the Jews understanding what
- 10:39Moses was able to do by the power of God.
- 10:41Saw what Christ did in John chapter 6 and they made the
- 10:45connection themselves. You don't have to turn there.
- 10:47But in verse 14, look at the reaction has Jesus Made bread,
- 10:51seemingly appear out of nowhere. Just like the Manna in the
- 10:54wilderness. S.
- 10:55When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said this
- 10:58indeed is the prophet who is to come into the world, this is
- 11:02him. This is whom Moses spoke about,
- 11:05even they were convinced, but as you heard earlier, this Prophet,
- 11:09who would be like, Moses would be similar.
- 11:11Because Moses was this mediator. He was the liaison.
- 11:15He was the communicator of the old Covenant at that mountain,
- 11:20with the law being given. And yes, you know, this, that
- 11:22the Lord Jesus Christ is the mediator.
- 11:24Either of the New Covenant. And so, these things are plain
- 11:27and obvious and it all makes sense with Jesus comment, when
- 11:31he said, if you don't believe his writings, how will you
- 11:35believe my my words? How will you believe my words?
- 11:40Well, what do you have to say? Lord, that is so important.
- 11:43Why do we have to believe your words?
- 11:47Is there something that you have to say that we have to adhere to
- 11:51and Listen and Obey? Well we don't have to, we don't
- 11:53have to guess. Let Moses speak on behalf of the
- 11:57Christ and the answer will come to us.
- 11:59When you scroll down and Deuteronomy 18, look at Verse 18
- 12:05God is speaking now and he's speaking to the people and he
- 12:08was saying I will raise up for them.
- 12:11A prophet like you from among their brothers and they'll give
- 12:15this, I will put my words in his mouth.
- 12:20And he shall speak to them all that.
- 12:22I command him. And whoever will not listen to
- 12:25my words that he shall speak, in my name, I myself will required
- 12:29it of him. So the words of this future
- 12:32Prophet who will be like, Moses will be the very words of God.
- 12:37God will place his words in his mouth.
- 12:40He will command them exactly what to say and he will fulfill
- 12:44what he's been told to say. In fact, the words of this
- 12:47Prophet are so serious, So important, So Divine that those
- 12:53who would refuse according to verse 19 to listen to what he
- 12:55has to say, there will be consequences, I myself will
- 12:59require it of him. And we know that Jesus, Jesus
- 13:06Echoes exactly what Moses is saying here concerning his own
- 13:10Ministry in his own message. How will you believe my words?
- 13:15Because Moses said that there's going to be one like him and he
- 13:17has something to say and what he has to say is in fact, the very
- 13:20words of God, When you scroll back now go to John, chapter 12.
- 13:28Look what Jesus says in verse 48 about his word.
- 13:36John 12:48 Jesus is speaking about his words the one who
- 13:42rejects me and does not receive. My words has a judge.
- 13:47The word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.
- 13:53We pause and say that, it's very dangerous to boast in biblical
- 13:56knowledge, because the more light you get, the more
- 13:59judgment, you will receive. So be very, very careful and
- 14:02boasting about biblical knowledge.
- 14:03Because according to this the word that we receive that we are
- 14:06exposed to will be our judge verse 49.
- 14:10For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the father who
- 14:15sent me has himself given me a commandment what to say and what
- 14:20to speak. It's right.
- 14:22There is exactly what Moses said he's going to come and he's
- 14:25going to speak. What has been commanded to him
- 14:29and if you don't listen to what he says, God says I myself will
- 14:33required it of you and here comes the Lord.
- 14:35Jesus Christ. Saying, if you do not receive my
- 14:38words, this word will judge you because everything that I am
- 14:42saying to you has been given to me by the father who commanded
- 14:46it to me. There's no denying that Jesus
- 14:50Christ's words are the words of God.
- 14:52And if they are the words of God and they are divine revelation,
- 14:56If they are divine revelation, then they are scripture like
- 14:59what Moses predicted he would be commanded and Jesus says I was
- 15:03commanded Moses says he would have something to say and those
- 15:06who refuse to listen will be judged Jesus.
- 15:08If you don't listen to me, you will be judged.
- 15:11No mere. Man, can say that.
- 15:12This is the prophet of prophets, the Lord, Jesus Christ.
- 15:16Now, you might not be convinced or maybe might satisfy some
- 15:18skepticism. And there's so many places you
- 15:21can go to. There's so many places to prove
- 15:24this but I like this one. This one's neat.
- 15:27It's found in the gospel of Mark. when you go to Mark
- 15:30chapter 13 verse 31, it's going to be a little bit of a marathon
- 15:36this afternoon. Look what Jesus after he
- 15:40finishes teaching on the end times after he finishes talking
- 15:43about the signs that will come before his return.
- 15:46He concludes with this Divine stamp of approval.
- 15:50He says something about his words that if the if the
- 15:54Christian here's that they understand with ease.
- 15:56If you believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, you can hear
- 15:59what Jesus is about to say and say well, that makes sense, I
- 16:02believe he is God. But to the Jewish mind, Who sees
- 16:05a mere man and is challenged by this concept of God becoming man
- 16:09though. They shouldn't because the
- 16:10scriptures prove it over and over.
- 16:12This would have been Blasphemous.
- 16:14This would have been just shocking to hear, Mark, 1331
- 16:19Jesus puts us exclamation mark to his teaching on the last days
- 16:23and he says Heaven and Earth will pass away, but my words
- 16:27will not pass away my words. Do you eat it to us?
- 16:32We say, Amen. But to the Jew.
- 16:35They go. Who Do You Think You Are?
- 16:40My words will not pass away. Why would this be so shocking?
- 16:44Because he dared to take the prerogative that solely belongs
- 16:48to God and His word alone, and applies it to himself.
- 16:54Jesus Takes a perogative, a statement that God Alone makes
- 16:58about his word. And he says, my word is equally
- 17:02Eternal and equally reliable and equally permanent.
- 17:09Because the prophet Isaiah said, in chapter 40 verse 8, the grass
- 17:12withers, the flower Fades, but the word of our God will stand
- 17:16forever. Are you saying your words are
- 17:21the same as the word of our God? Are you saying that the humanity
- 17:25is frail? Mankind will fade?
- 17:28That your word will stand Until the End of the Age?
- 17:31And Jesus without blushing, without hesitation says my word,
- 17:36my word will never pass away because my words are the very
- 17:40words of God that might help. I may settle the skeptical hard
- 17:47and we can go on and on and on about what Jesus words mean and
- 17:50the authority of his words. But I think the more debatable
- 17:54area is well okay, that's fine. But what about the apostles
- 17:57then, what about the apostles because you even some people who
- 18:00innocently or Deceptively say, well, I I follow the letters of
- 18:05red and that is becoming more and more common and I'll tell
- 18:09you why in a moment. But these people fail to realize
- 18:12that the very words of the Apostles, are the words of
- 18:14Christ. And if the words of Christ are
- 18:15the words of God, just do the math.
- 18:19Jesus in John chapter 16. This is incredible.
- 18:23And verse 12, he speaking to his own before his passion.
- 18:27He speaking to those 12 that have fault him Faithfully for
- 18:30years and he's about to speak now about his departure but he's
- 18:34also going to give a comforting promise.
- 18:36They've been chosen for this Apostolic Ministry and he's not
- 18:40going to leave them behind without assistance and guidance
- 18:43but he says something quite remarkable and verse 12 of
- 18:46chapter 16, I still have many things to say to you.
- 18:52But you cannot bear them now. You know, it's amazing after
- 18:56three and a half years of ministry on Earth.
- 18:58Jesus, admits here that there are still many other things that
- 19:00he had to teach concerning. His person concerning his work,
- 19:04concerning his will for the church, but he tells them why he
- 19:08did not teach them up to this point because they could not
- 19:11bear them now, You can't handle this.
- 19:14Now it'll be too overwhelming for you.
- 19:17It will be confusing and that makes total sense.
- 19:21And so what are what are one of the reasons why he does not
- 19:24teach them what he says he wanted to, but he couldn't.
- 19:29I believe it's because he had to First died.
- 19:32He had the first be buried. He had to First resurrect and
- 19:35ascend before the further Revelations would even make
- 19:38sense to the minds of the disciples.
- 19:41Because we see over and over that when Jesus even tells them,
- 19:44blatantly I'm going to be surrendered, I am going to die
- 19:48and I'm going to rise. They were confused.
- 19:51They could not accept it. They could not understand it.
- 19:53And if they couldn't understand the beginning of his Redemptive
- 19:56purposes, how would they understand the things that it
- 19:59would accomplish, how it to understand the things?
- 20:02I would be as a result of his death and Resurrection when they
- 20:04couldn't even understand him dying and resurrecting?
- 20:08So he puts a limit to what he teaches them because they could
- 20:12not understand it. They could not bear it.
- 20:14Yes, they were sorrowful. That's one part.
- 20:16But I believe they were limited in their understanding and the
- 20:18things that he would want to teach would only make sense
- 20:22after the events of his Redemptive purposes being
- 20:25accomplished after his sacrificial atonement, then
- 20:28these teachings would make sense to the Mind Into the Heart.
- 20:33But it gives him a promise in verse 13.
- 20:36When the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the
- 20:41truth for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever.
- 20:45He hears he will speak and he will declare to you the things
- 20:49that are to come. He will glorify me for.
- 20:52He will take. What is mine and declare it to
- 20:55you? You are my Apostles, you will be
- 20:59the foundation of the church through your teaching and I want
- 21:02to promise you now, this is what Christ is saying that the agent
- 21:06will deliver these further, Revelations will be the person
- 21:09of the Holy Spirit. He will be given to you and he
- 21:12will tell you exactly what you need to know.
- 21:15He will guide you into all truth and the primary application of
- 21:19that deals with the New Testament.
- 21:20Writers who will Who will give us this Library?
- 21:24The promise is you are going to receive the revelation.
- 21:27To complete, what I want to say to the world and to my people.
- 21:33You don't have to turn there but early on he says about the Holy
- 21:36Spirit. He will teach you all things and
- 21:37John 14:26. He will teach you all things and
- 21:41bring all the things that I've said to you to remembrance.
- 21:46And if you ever met somebody who said, and I've heard this from
- 21:49somebody wants many, many years ago.
- 21:52You know, if I'm in doubt of the New Testament, I just go to the
- 21:56words of Jesus. Paul John Peter.
- 22:00Yeah. But they're like, you know, But
- 22:03the letters in red, that's where I go to.
- 22:07And if anybody ever says that or maybe you believe that I would
- 22:09say, well what do you do with the scripture like this?
- 22:13Because Jesus said that the holy spirit will not speak on his own
- 22:16authority. The Holy Spirit who work through
- 22:20the apostles was not giving something additional or less
- 22:23than what does it say here? That he will take.
- 22:26What is mine? Jesus said he will take.
- 22:29What is mine? And make it known to you?
- 22:33So you go to First Corinthians and you see Paul writing to a
- 22:35church, and immediate context has is the troubles that they
- 22:38have. And if people that he's
- 22:39communicating to that, he's minutes or to Paul's writings.
- 22:42Yeah, but Jesus is words, John, same thing.
- 22:46Why is this crucial? Because we're coming to a day
- 22:49where people are saying, well, Jesus didn't speak about
- 22:51homosexuality, so it must be okay.
- 22:56Jesus wasn't very clear about gender roles within the local
- 23:00church and the home. So we will pop.
- 23:02Well, yeah, but that's Paul. That was Peter.
- 23:09Jesus said that what they would receive from the spirit would be
- 23:12from him. So they're actually Jesus's
- 23:14words. So, what you gonna do with that?
- 23:18They are his words through the apostles and these chosen men
- 23:22who received the promise of the Holy Spirit to experience a
- 23:26supernatural work of being inspired in a specific moment.
- 23:30To write holy writ, they themselves knew they themselves
- 23:34were convinced that their content at certain times were in
- 23:38fact given by Jesus Christ. By the spirit, they knew that if
- 23:46you believe that the New Testament was just compiled
- 23:48accidentally and that the apostles did not know what they
- 23:51were writing, would be inspired and we come to this point where
- 23:53we would have the scriptures. No, no.
- 23:56They in fact, knew it though, they were not in control of when
- 24:00they would be inspired. They knew that they were by the
- 24:02Holy Spirit carrying them along. Proof of that is in second Peter
- 24:07in chapter 3. in verse 1, Peter says this is now the second
- 24:17letter that I am writing to you Beloved in both of them, I am
- 24:22stirring up, your sincere Mind by way of reminder that you
- 24:26should remember. Now look at this verse to that
- 24:28you should remember the predictions of the Holy prophets
- 24:33and the Commandment of the Lord and Savior through your
- 24:37apostles. You should remember the
- 24:41predictions of the Holy prophets.
- 24:43And we know that those prophets were the men who spoke and
- 24:46Isaiah, and Jeremiah, and Ezekiel, and Mayhem, and Malachi
- 24:51and Deuteronomy, remember their predictions and look where he
- 24:55places his own writings with the other 11.
- 25:01In the same category equal and worth equal in authority and the
- 25:06Commandment of who the Lord and Savior through your apostles.
- 25:12The apostles writings were just as relevant and reliable and
- 25:16authoritative as those of the ancient prophets in the Old
- 25:19Testament. And so even the early church
- 25:23learned to submit to the words of the Apostles, as though, they
- 25:27were divine in origin. And that's clear here.
- 25:32And this should excite us to a certain degree.
- 25:36Because Jesus is telling telling them that this is going to
- 25:40happen in Peters experiencing and he's what he's saying to his
- 25:42people is that you should be reminded what we're saying comes
- 25:44from Christ. Comes from the Lord himself your
- 25:47savior and our savior. What about Paul?
- 25:50Paul was additional Paul was in among the twelve.
- 25:52So many Paul. I mean, I know this sounds crazy
- 25:55but you have to understand, this is how people think.
- 25:58This is a people actually think they chop it up in such a way
- 26:02and they really believe that not all scripture is breathed out by
- 26:05God. Now you believe that, but there
- 26:06is a world increasing and even an academic settings that will
- 26:09say otherwise So narrow it down. We go from all scripture Old
- 26:15Testament. Now we come to the words of
- 26:17Jesus, they're Divine, okay, there's no much argument there.
- 26:20Okay, the 12 there. Well, what about Paul then?
- 26:22Paul was Paul's third number 13, the same chapter, you scroll
- 26:27down to verse 16 of second, Peter He's speaking about Paul's
- 26:32writings, you can go to verse 15 actually and count the patience
- 26:35of Our Lord as salvation. Just as our beloved brother
- 26:39Paul. I love how Peter speaks about
- 26:41Paul our beloved brother. Tenderness and compassion our
- 26:46beloved brother Paul, also wrote to you to the wisdom, given him.
- 26:51Now, look at this, as he does in all his letters.
- 26:53When he speaks in them of these matters, there are some things
- 26:56in them that are hard to understand, that comforts me,
- 27:01There are some things in them that are hard to understand,
- 27:04which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction,
- 27:07as they do the other scriptures. so, even Peter Speaking about
- 27:18Paul's letters is saying that they're scripture as they do
- 27:23implying. What that Paul's writings are
- 27:25just as much scripture as Moses writings.
- 27:30And people twist them. And I, as I said earlier, I'm
- 27:34comforted to know that some parts are hard to understand.
- 27:37So if you have difficulty, reading some, postures of
- 27:39scripture, you don't understand what's being said, it's okay.
- 27:41Even Peter did Notice this incredible connection and I hope
- 27:49that this brief time but at least settle your soul to
- 27:51realize that when God through Paul says all scripture, he
- 27:55really meant all scripture. Now, if you want to know how the
- 28:00Bible has been developed and how why we have these particular
- 28:03books in our library, you can come ask us after the service,
- 28:06that's a whole another session on its own.
- 28:09But within the testimony of the word of God itself, we know that
- 28:12from the sacred writings to the words of Jesus.
- 28:14To the words of the Apostles it is considered as the very truth
- 28:19of God from God's heart and mind himself.
- 28:23And this is encouraging, because we go on to read here.
- 28:26That all scripture, all scripture is breathed out by
- 28:31God. Sounds, poetic sounds profound
- 28:36sounds powerful. What does it mean?
- 28:39What does it mean? Breathe out by God?
- 28:44It's an expression only found in this verse in all of the Bible
- 28:48though, the meaning is expressed in different ways at different
- 28:50portions of the Bible. This phrase itself is unique to
- 28:52this text and the purpose of this claim is to make sure that,
- 28:57although you and I believe that the Bible has been written by
- 29:00individual writers with their respective personalities.
- 29:03The origin, the origin is God, It's God.
- 29:10And now, God in his wisdom, does not give us the mechanics.
- 29:13Does that give us a step-by-step process of how that
- 29:15inspirational work happened? Did they go into a trance and
- 29:19start writing? I don't think so.
- 29:21But we don't have that we not given that.
- 29:23All God believes is sufficient for his people.
- 29:26And for a world who is skeptical to know is that at certain times
- 29:30with certain men, God used them to say exactly what he wanted to
- 29:35say and it is found in our Bibles today.
- 29:38Breathe out the same way that your words are accompanied by
- 29:41your breath. You breathe out your words.
- 29:43This written word are the very words of God does not Inspire
- 29:47reverence in US. That this book that we are
- 29:51hearing from today. It's not Paul's thoughts, not
- 29:54Peters thoughts? Yes, God work through them.
- 29:58It's ultimately the Lord himself.
- 30:01These are his commands. These are his instructions.
- 30:04This is his counsel. This is his revelation.
- 30:08All from time to time. We need to be reminded of that
- 30:10so that we can tremble. When we come to this word, and
- 30:13I'm afraid that with, with such availability, we are losing that
- 30:17sense of reverence because you can download God's word, it's
- 30:21just an app, right? Beside Instagram and Facebook.
- 30:23There's God's word. Be reminded today that are no
- 30:26matter what platform. It's found its still God
- 30:29speaking. It's God speaking.
- 30:35And in order to even show how connected God's word is to him,
- 30:39you may have never heard this before but I hope it inspires
- 30:42some excitement in you this afternoon in order to show just
- 30:45how connected God is to his word.
- 30:49The holy spirit in the Bible sometimes listen to this uses
- 30:54the word God and scripture interchangeably.
- 30:59In other words, when God has said something, sometimes the
- 31:04New Testament will just say and scripture said, when it was in
- 31:08fact, God who said it. And there are other times that
- 31:11when there is a clear scripture given by specific author, The
- 31:16New Testament was say, God said that God said that and I want to
- 31:22show you just two examples of that.
- 31:24This is this is exciting. One is found in the book of
- 31:27Galatians. Galatians chapter 3 They're the
- 31:37rustling of the leaves. Galatians chapter 3.
- 31:42Look what look what Paul says, look at this.
- 31:45Masterful statement in verse 8 of Galatians chapter 3, And the
- 31:52scripture foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by
- 31:59faith. Preached the gospel beforehand
- 32:02to Abraham saying in you shall all the nations be blessed.
- 32:08Hold on, read that slowly. Who's foreseeing?
- 32:14Who's preaching the gospel to Abraham?
- 32:17who's saying it's not a who it's a, what the scripture, the
- 32:23scripture foreseeing, the scripture preaching, the
- 32:28scripture saying but you go back to Genesis 12 where this quote
- 32:33is taken from and you realize that it's God who's speaking to
- 32:37Abraham God is the one who said in you shall all the nations be
- 32:42blessed. And yet Paul, by the spirit goes
- 32:44on to say, actually it was scripture who said it Paul
- 32:49personifies scripture. As a scripture, can see, as
- 32:54though, scripture can preach as a scripture, can say because
- 32:58what's credited to God, he actually credits it to
- 33:00scripture. For what reason to show, just
- 33:04how connected scripture is to the heart and mind of God.
- 33:09He does the same in Romans 9 verse 17, you don't have to turn
- 33:11there. he says, and the scripture said to pharaoh, And
- 33:18then he quotes what God said about pharaoh and exodus.
- 33:21Well God said it. Yeah but scripture said it
- 33:25because whatever God says is scripture.
- 33:28So Paul even personifies the written word of God, to a
- 33:33certain extent, by saying when God said it, it's divine
- 33:36revelation. And he does the opposite, he
- 33:39does the opposite when a human writer wrote something.
- 33:45He says God said it and that's found in Hebrews as an example.
- 33:50And Hebrews chapter 3 verse 7 I told you were going to a lot of
- 33:54verses today and Hebrews chapter 3 verse 7.
- 33:59We read this Therefore as the holy spirit says, today if you
- 34:04hear his voice, do not Harden. Your hearts as in the Rebellion
- 34:09on the day of testing, in the wilderness, he quotes Psalm, 95
- 34:137 to 11. And it's clear that a psalmist
- 34:16wrote this. It's a psalmist, in fact, giving
- 34:19instruction to the people of how to respond to God.
- 34:21Don't Harden your hearts. That's a preaching thing.
- 34:24That's an instruction think today, if you hear his voice, do
- 34:27not Harden your hearts, some would say that's David.
- 34:30And actually David, when you go down later on, we're told it's
- 34:33David. But he doesn't say the psalmist.
- 34:36He doesn't say. As David says, he says who as
- 34:40the holy spirit says, The holy spirit.
- 34:44Is God, what does that mean? What, when you read the Psalms,
- 34:48you're not just reading David, you're not just reading asaph,
- 34:51you're not just reading, Moses. You're reading God.
- 34:54Speaking to you. And in fact, in the next chapter
- 34:58in chapter 4 verse 7, we are told with the same Psalm that
- 35:01God spoke through David through. David the holy spirit says today
- 35:08if you hear his voice. Not David.
- 35:10Yes, David was the instrument. Yes, David was speaking with his
- 35:13personality, his poetic ability but it was God who said he was
- 35:17God, who said it. And so you see how God even in
- 35:20the word, conjoins his word with who he is, they're inseparable.
- 35:26These things reveal him, they speak of him the same way, your
- 35:29words reveal who you are, God's word reveals who he is and I
- 35:35hope we understand that. I hope we see that this is
- 35:38Supernatural that it's Inseparable from who he is but
- 35:42you might be in an honest way asking.
- 35:44Well how How does this ancient Spirit woven series of tax
- 35:49applied to my Martin life? You've proved it.
- 35:54I hope all scripture means all scripture, including the words
- 35:57of Jesus, including the words and the writings of the Apostles
- 36:00that when they spoke God spoke, but what does that mean for me?
- 36:05What does that do for me? Oh you ask the wonderful
- 36:08question and Paul. After speaking about the
- 36:11authority of God's word, this Breathe Out book goes on to
- 36:15speak about the ability of God's word and you heard it its
- 36:20profitable for teaching. It's Trouble for reproof for
- 36:24correction for training in righteousness.
- 36:27So that the man of God, may be complete equipped for every good
- 36:31work. Now we read in verse 15 of
- 36:34second. Timothy chapter 3 that these
- 36:36sacred writings make us wise for salvation.
- 36:40When you come to this book even the Old Testament you can be led
- 36:44to saving faith. But he goes on beyond that.
- 36:51It's more than just that it's more than just bringing you to
- 36:54the place. Where your soul is secure in the
- 36:56hands of a merciful god by Faith by repentance it is adequate
- 37:00enough from that place. It is adequate enough to make
- 37:04you healthy spiritually to make you whole to make you pure, to
- 37:10make you strong, to make you fruitful to make you effective
- 37:14to make you discerning. To be complete.
- 37:20Complete this and speak about moral perfection.
- 37:23It speaks about being mature in the things of God, and we do
- 37:25strive on to Perfection, but complete in the sense that you
- 37:29are furnished with all that, God would want to furnish you with.
- 37:34And what do we need? Do we need 10 texts?
- 37:35Do we need the Book of Mormon, do we need?
- 37:37No, no just the Scripture. It is sufficient.
- 37:42It is enough. It is it is God's necessary and
- 37:48sufficient truth to tell you exactly what he wants you to
- 37:51know about him. It is exactly what God wants to
- 37:54say to you about. Who you are with him or without
- 37:58him. What this world is, what this
- 38:01world will become. Is enough for you to know how to
- 38:05act, not to act. There's nothing more that you
- 38:08need that I need. And this written word and that
- 38:12will only be exciting, really to the person who would strive to
- 38:16be, what he tells him that he is to Timothy a man of God.
- 38:23You men of God listen you want to be a man of God.
- 38:27This will equip you to be a man. If you don't care about being a
- 38:29man of God, this Bible will not be attractive to you.
- 38:31If you don't want to be a woman of God, you will not be
- 38:33attracted to this book. But if you strive after coming
- 38:36to Salvation to the wisdom of God's word to say now, Lord make
- 38:40me into a man of God. And this is the place to be.
- 38:45This is where you draw that wisdom from.
- 38:48And as you hear it, as you receive it as you engage with
- 38:51it. It's super naturally Works in
- 38:53you and begins to shape you and change you from glory to glory
- 38:59to glory. You do not read this book every
- 39:02morning because that's what a good little Christian does.
- 39:07You come to this word because it is God's way of speaking into
- 39:11your life. As he spoke into creation, let
- 39:13life come Let order come. Like chaos be calmed in your
- 39:19heart and your mind and your behavior.
- 39:22But the difference between you and the trees and you and I and
- 39:25the planets, and the water is that they do not have the
- 39:28ability. To say, no.
- 39:32When God said trees come up. Yes.
- 39:35Sand, come up, yes, mountains, come up.
- 39:36Yes. But when it comes to you and I
- 39:38when God's word is exposed, as you have to submit to it, in
- 39:41order for it to work in you What I love about this truth is that
- 39:49if this is the source that brings about a certain kind of
- 39:53person, a man of God or woman of God, then as a local church, as
- 39:58we make this word central, then we can know what to expect from
- 40:02our people. And that is to be trained in
- 40:05righteousness. That is to be quit.
- 40:07That is to be complete. The only way that you can have
- 40:10such caliber of people in a local church is when you elevate
- 40:14the word of God and you, Teach it, you use it to reprove, you
- 40:17use it to preach and teach and instruct and then only then will
- 40:22you see a people arise to be Mighty Warriors for the kingdom
- 40:27of God? Only then nothing apart from the
- 40:30word of God. And yet, here we are hearing a
- 40:32different methods to draw. I am not interested in drawing
- 40:35people in and neither is the Bible.
- 40:38The Bible is interested in creating certain type of people.
- 40:43That can only happen from the word when the word is sung, when
- 40:47the word is converse, when the word is declared only, then will
- 40:50we see like, Timothy men and women of God, and when this word
- 40:55is Central, you know what happens, it weeds out, the
- 40:57people who don't want it. It weeds out those who think
- 41:02that they can live in sin and worldliness and come and take
- 41:04refuge among God's people. This word is so sharp that when
- 41:08it is declared by the power of the Holy Spirit, the person who
- 41:11does not want Sin, Cara their lives while For his life from
- 41:15such a place. But to those who say, oh God, do
- 41:18what he need to do, whatever surgery you need to do, cut it
- 41:21out, mold me shape me. Put me in the fire melt me so
- 41:24that you can create something beautiful, and me, a local
- 41:27church. That puts the word of God is
- 41:29supreme and primary will be an oasis in a Wilderness for such a
- 41:32person. They will come and drink, they
- 41:35will sit and they will receive. Even if they have to go
- 41:38Coast-to-Coast to receive the word from the Lord.
- 41:42You want to be a man of God. Come to the word.
- 41:46God, wrote a book. God wrote a book and God has
- 41:51ordained it. Since he has made Covenant with
- 41:53a people. That they would hear from him
- 41:56through a book. And if you have a copy of his
- 42:02book, It means that in his good Providence.
- 42:06God longs to speak to you. I know we pray say God speak to
- 42:12me and we want the Mount Sinai experience.
- 42:14Not realizing that the Mount Sinai experience was to create
- 42:17the very word that he would communicate his people with God
- 42:22spoke and God still wants to speak.
- 42:26Notice? I didn't say, God wants you to
- 42:27come to his word to learn something about him.
- 42:29I didn't say that. I said, God wants to speak
- 42:33currently to you, and I want to prove that to you in our final
- 42:38text as we close in a moment and the gospel of Matthew chapter
- 42:4122, I want you to see how Jesus believe how this word spoke, and
- 42:46still speaks. And the gospel of Matthew
- 42:51chapter 22. He speaking to.
- 42:59The Sadducees. They didn't believe in the
- 43:02Supernatural. They didn't believe in the
- 43:03resurrection. They didn't believe in angels
- 43:05and somebody jokingly said well no wonder they were called the
- 43:07Sadducees sad you see? They don't believe in things.
- 43:11I should make you rejoice. In Matthew, 22 verse 31.
- 43:16Jesus speaks to them because they try to Corner him with a
- 43:19question about the resurrection. They thought they were clever
- 43:22and look what he does. So masterfully.
- 43:25And as for the resurrection of the Dead, have you not read?
- 43:27What was said to you by God, I am the god of Abraham and the
- 43:31god of Isaac and the god of Jacob.
- 43:33He is not God of the dead but of the living.
- 43:38Jesus is a master apologists. Evangelist knew that the
- 43:40Sadducees only held to the first five books of the Bible, didn't
- 43:44hold to the prophets then hold to the historical narratives,
- 43:48they held to the first five books.
- 43:49So what he does to prove his case as he goes to the first
- 43:51five books to prove the resurrection And he goes to the
- 43:54Book of Exodus. But more than that, he says,
- 43:59have you not read? And then he finishes that
- 44:03statement with what was said to you.
- 44:07By God. Have you not read?
- 44:12What was said to you. Well, that's interesting because
- 44:15he quotes Exodus and that burning bush scene where Moses
- 44:19approaches this Burning Bush and God speaks to Moses.
- 44:24And when you go to Acts chapter 7 and you don't have to turn
- 44:26there, Stephen goes to this incident as well in his last
- 44:30message, before he is executed. And he clearly says, in Acts 7.
- 44:34What the Lord said to him being Moses and he engages with the
- 44:38same reference, Stephen says, what the Lord said to him?
- 44:41Jesus says what the Lord said to you, What do you mean to you?
- 44:47God spoke to Moses that was the immediate context.
- 44:49And yet Jesus still says in this text that even though in the
- 44:53immediate context God spoke to Moses God was actually having in
- 44:57mind something for you to hear. God in his mind, obviously,
- 45:03wrote it and recorded it for Moses, but he also had in mind
- 45:08that for future Generations. When they would read that
- 45:10portion of scripture among all of it, they would understand
- 45:13that God was actually saying something to them as well.
- 45:16You Sadducees hundreds of years after what this happened, where
- 45:19this happened, God actually was saying something to you.
- 45:23Did you hear it? Did you hear what God Said in
- 45:26Exodus? When he spoke to Moses he was
- 45:28in. Just speaking to Moses he was
- 45:29speaking to you and he's still speaking to us in 2021 2022 2023
- 45:352024 T he's still speaking. What does that mean?
- 45:40This phrase proves to me in essence then when I come to his
- 45:42word Not just the, the obvious instructions given to me and you
- 45:48as Christians and Philippians and Ephesians do this, don't do
- 45:52this. Even when I come to Exodus, God
- 45:54has something to say to me. From Genesis to Malachi although
- 46:00its historical. As ancient its narrative, it's
- 46:03descriptive and yet still according to the words of Jesus,
- 46:07God wants to speak to me through those stories.
- 46:11He wants to speak to me through Leviticus.
- 46:13He wants to speak to me in Malachi and Zechariah.
- 46:18That will make all the difference in your approach to
- 46:20the word of God. That will make all the
- 46:23difference. It will be much more exciting to
- 46:25come to something like the Old Testament.
- 46:28And not think that the ultimate motivation is.
- 46:30So I can memorize certain truth, so that when I'm quizzed, I can
- 46:33show that I'm sharp. Who cares.
- 46:36What, what are we seeing here? Come to the word of God because
- 46:39God wants to say something. You should get giddy my brother.
- 46:44And my sister, when you finish a book in the Old Testament,
- 46:46you're ready to come to a new one.
- 46:48You should prepare yourself old God, what are you going to say
- 46:51to me? What are you going to speak?
- 46:53To me? What are you going to reveal
- 46:55yourself to me through this text because God had in mind through?
- 46:59Jesus Christ, that when you see these things and read these
- 47:01things, he would say something. and I hope you would feel that
- 47:08way when you read God's word, because as you come with that
- 47:13kind of an attitude, You will go deeper in your knowledge of him
- 47:19in a way that would be so rich and so real.
- 47:21And so transformative that you will not be the same as you
- 47:25discipline yourself to have a conversation with god.
- 47:29When God speaks to a heart, that's willing to receive what
- 47:31he wants to say. That heart cannot remain the
- 47:34same. It cannot.
- 47:36Now if you come to this book to receive data and information,
- 47:40then that can only go so far when you are disconnected from
- 47:44this book and you don't realize that it's actually God's means
- 47:47of speaking and communicating to you won't go very far and being
- 47:50equipped as a man of God. But when you come from cover, to
- 47:54cover ready for the Lord to speak to you, although you will
- 47:57be furnished. You'll be molded, you will be
- 48:00transformed. Something will happen to your

- 48:08over sin becomes more available and more experienced something
- 48:12happens. But you have to believe that
- 48:14it's God's voice first. Jesus said it and I hope today
- 48:19this afternoon that you would leave here with a greater itch
- 48:23and a holy way a greater appetite.
- 48:27When you fail to feel the motivation to come to God's word
- 48:29realize what Jesus said to these Sadducees, he wants to say
- 48:33something to you. He wants to say something to
- 48:36you. But we thank you for your word
- 48:38this afternoon. Thank you that all scripture is
- 48:49breathed out by God. And this world will be held
- 48:53accountable to the word. Thank you that we have.
- 49:02Received the wisdom from this word for salvation.
- 49:04But Lord, we don't want your salvation.
- 49:06We want to be Sanctified, we want to be a man of God, a woman
- 49:11of God. What help us believe, what?
- 49:15Christ himself said of his word that it speaks to us, you speak
- 49:20to us. Even in this day you had in mind
- 49:24from eternity past that Genesis Exodus Leviticus Numbers
- 49:28Deuteronomy and everything after that.
- 49:31Would be your way of speaking. Revealing.
- 49:36Communicating to us. Lord.
- 49:38We just ask in this moment that there would be a renewed love
- 49:40for the word and in this moment we in response to his show you
- 49:45reverence As we sing to the Living God with his living book.
- 49:51Breathing us, Breath of God, Fresh Life, fresh hope, and
- 49:56fresh Faith to continue in this walk Faithfully, as we walk in
