- 0:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna hit the button and I'm hoping lumber comes back.
- 0:23Speaker 1: But what's going on? Everybody? I am the one, the only,
- 0:25Speaker 1: the w oh okay, I eat joined by the normal
- 0:29Speaker 1: cast of misfits. We have mister Cole Robbie.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Hello, everyone, Happy Valentine's.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Happy Valentine Day. Okay, we're recording this on Valentine's Day.
- 0:41Speaker 1: You guys will all get this on the eighteenth. I'll
- 0:45Speaker 1: be at work. And then we got that weird kid
- 0:48Speaker 1: in your math class, Dexter. Hey, hey, and joining us
- 0:53Speaker 1: very special guest, we have Felix.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Hello, good evening.
- 0:58Speaker 1: So Felix, I'm going like, like, maybe not everyone else
- 1:03Speaker 1: because called it a real bad job of telling us.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Who the hell are you?
- 1:09Speaker 3: Hello?
- 1:10Speaker 4: So I am Felix. As my name suggests, I am
- 1:14Speaker 4: from Houston. I'm originally from Puerto Rico, but moved to
- 1:17Speaker 4: Houston about ten years ago. And I've been very deep
- 1:23Speaker 4: into card games since like third grade. So I went
- 1:26Speaker 4: back and I made a list of all the card
- 1:29Speaker 4: games that I used to play, and then because and
- 1:31Speaker 4: then my.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Top three currently. So it's a pretty big list.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I'm excited excited for this because I go, how old
- 1:39Speaker 1: are you, Felix, if you don't mind.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Me asking, I am thirty six.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Oh nice, I turned thirty six seven on Monday.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Oh, I'm turning thirty sappened later during the year.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Okay, So you and I might have we might have
- 1:57Speaker 1: a ton in common. And I I'm very curious because
- 2:02Speaker 1: I am also very heavily into a card game background,
- 2:06Speaker 1: so I'm interested to see like, what were what did
- 2:09Speaker 1: you play? What did I miss? Stuff like that. So anyways, keep.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I'm gonna start with the very first one.
- 2:15Speaker 4: The first one I started playing back in third grade
- 2:18Speaker 4: was the Pokemon trading card game.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Okay, of course.
- 2:23Speaker 4: And then I started with the Nintendo Power magazine and
- 2:26Speaker 4: we got that chart million before the game came out,
- 2:29Speaker 4: and that was like my start. And then after that
- 2:33Speaker 4: things get blurry because I started getting into too many
- 2:36Speaker 4: of them.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Yeah, my current games.
- 2:38Speaker 4: That I play are Pokemon still because I run and
- 2:41Speaker 4: I'm part of the Play Play Pokemon program, so I
- 2:45Speaker 4: run a Pokemon league, I run tournaments for it, and
- 2:48Speaker 4: so on. But another game that I'm very deep into
- 2:52Speaker 4: is Universes, which used to be called Universal Fighting System
- 2:57Speaker 4: way back in the day. It's another game that came
- 3:00Speaker 4: out back in two thousand and a six.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Yeah, people don't realize how old that game really is.
- 3:08Speaker 1: I just gone through when it first came out at
- 3:10Speaker 1: gen Con all those years ago, wasn't it? Was it?
- 3:14Speaker 1: Mortal Kombat versus street Fighter was the first one.
- 3:18Speaker 4: The first one that released outside of Penny Arcade, because
- 3:22Speaker 4: that was the very first one was street Fighter and
- 3:25Speaker 4: Soul Caliber ca Yeah.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I missed Soul Caliber kind of side part of Soul Caliber.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I don't remember which one it was, but do you
- 3:37Speaker 2: remember the one that had like the overworld map that
- 3:41Speaker 2: you would like travel around with a little like chess
- 3:43Speaker 2: piece or something.
- 3:44Speaker 3: It might have been that one, but it missed a
- 3:46Speaker 3: Caliber three.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yeah, that mode was was so cool. Pokemon though, Did
- 3:54Speaker 2: you actually play Pokemon back then or did you just
- 3:57Speaker 2: collect it like the rest of us and that?
- 3:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, we played it and we went and we
- 4:01Speaker 1: got gym badges.
- 4:03Speaker 3: We played.
- 4:04Speaker 4: I played it the wrong way. I played it by
- 4:09Speaker 4: putting cars in the on the on the table and
- 4:11Speaker 4: making rules as we go. Yeah, this Bookemon has more speed,
- 4:15Speaker 4: So I went, this Bookemon deals this part damage. I went,
- 4:18Speaker 4: I put this double cutterness energy gives it like twenty
- 4:20Speaker 4: more damage.
- 4:21Speaker 1: You maybe of the leagues or anything like that.
- 4:25Speaker 4: I went to a league a couple of times back
- 4:27Speaker 4: in the time, back in the day, but we had
- 4:30Speaker 4: to travel too much because everything was too far from
- 4:32Speaker 4: where we used to live. So I pretty much was
- 4:35Speaker 4: just building the community in my own school at.
- 4:38Speaker 1: The Texas is a large place.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Then we'll go to Toys r US for preleases and
- 4:43Speaker 4: picked stuff up.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I remember. So my first card game ever, believed this
- 4:48Speaker 1: or not, was the second card game to ever be released,
- 4:52Speaker 1: and it was the Star Wars CCG MMM, and I.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Was I was won by oh shoot such as Cipher. Yeah,
- 5:02Speaker 2: they are now defunct. I also have a bunch of
- 5:06Speaker 2: those cards.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I loved that game. I played it from its initial
- 5:12Speaker 1: release in like nineteen ninety or ninety five all the way.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I think it was two thousand and four five when
- 5:23Speaker 1: it finally they lost the rights to Wizards, and Wizards
- 5:26Speaker 1: just bought up their competition. But as well, I as
- 5:31Speaker 1: well played Pokemon. I loved Pokemon. I did all the
- 5:34Speaker 1: leagues right, like if there was a card, if there
- 5:37Speaker 1: was a if there was a talent or a card
- 5:41Speaker 1: shop near me, like they had like that you actually
- 5:43Speaker 1: got little pins and they actually for each game you played,
- 5:46Speaker 1: you would get like a stamp in a little book. Yeah,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and then if you played so many games, you got
- 5:52Speaker 1: a pin.
- 5:54Speaker 3: We don't do pins anymore, sadly.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Yeah, the good old days.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Uh want Felix to go back through the rest of
- 6:03Speaker 2: his list, but now that will get yeah, his first extra.
- 6:08Speaker 2: What was your first Do you remember your first time?
- 6:11Speaker 5: Oh?
- 6:12Speaker 6: Yeah, it was key Forge actually six years ago.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I'll remember our first call.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Yeah, first, Yeah, Oh you're I was, Oh, you're like fourteen.
- 6:27Speaker 6: I was. I was thirteen when I started playing KeyForge.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Oh, how how did you get into a game like
- 6:34Speaker 2: key Forge? I had never even heard of it until
- 6:37Speaker 2: I met you guys.
- 6:40Speaker 6: So, uh, me and my friend just went to a
- 6:43Speaker 6: card game club at our middle school, and we thought
- 6:47Speaker 6: we were just going to be playing like regular card
- 6:49Speaker 6: games like Poker and other stuff with like fifty two
- 6:52Speaker 6: cards of decks. And then we realized that other people
- 6:54Speaker 6: were playing like Pokemon and magic and stuff. So we're like,
- 6:57Speaker 6: we have no idea what this is. We asked the
- 7:00Speaker 6: teacher there and he's like, this new game came out.
- 7:02Speaker 6: It's called Keyfde. It's a pretty low entry price to play.
- 7:06Speaker 6: So then we played with some decks that he had.
- 7:08Speaker 6: Me and my friend really liked it, so then we
- 7:10Speaker 6: started playing a lot, bought some decks, played at locals,
- 7:15Speaker 6: just playing key Forde a lot nice. I've bought in
- 7:18Speaker 6: two hundred plus decks since then.
- 7:21Speaker 2: My first was the first that I actually like played
- 7:25Speaker 2: and got into was Magic, and then I took a
- 7:29Speaker 2: very long break from it. But I've actually always collected
- 7:34Speaker 2: cards in some way. So I actually have some baseball cards,
- 7:38Speaker 2: some football. I have the Decipher, Star Wars, I have
- 7:42Speaker 2: the Wizard of the Coast Star Wars, and then yeah,
- 7:46Speaker 2: now I'm here.
- 7:48Speaker 1: But it's weird. I was going through a box the
- 7:51Speaker 1: other day that was just kind of like, however, whatever reason,
- 7:55Speaker 1: this box has floated around with me for god a
- 7:58Speaker 1: third almost thirty seven years, right, well maybe less than that,
- 8:04Speaker 1: And it was just full of cards from card games
- 8:07Speaker 1: I used to play. I know, I know we're an
- 8:09Speaker 1: altered podcast, but let's just go through some of these. Yeah,
- 8:14Speaker 1: tell me all of them. It's just it's funny that
- 8:16Speaker 1: we're talking about this because like literally I my wife's like,
- 8:20Speaker 1: what's this box? And I'm like, I don't know. It's
- 8:23Speaker 1: like it's an old shoe box and I was like, oh,
- 8:27Speaker 1: she's like, well it's yours. It's all cards and I
- 8:29Speaker 1: was like what so I like pulled it open and
- 8:32Speaker 1: like if anybody remembers Rage the card game.
- 8:38Speaker 3: So familiar.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Again, that was it. That was a young one. And
- 8:43Speaker 1: then the next one that there was a bunch of
- 8:46Speaker 1: stuff in there was the old dragon ball Z card
- 8:49Speaker 1: game from Panini.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Which one from which one and I played an older one.
- 8:56Speaker 1: There was one older one. I never played that one,
- 8:59Speaker 1: but it was the one Panini where you were a
- 9:01Speaker 1: hero and like you had the little scouter on your
- 9:04Speaker 1: power levels and all that, and I had my old
- 9:08Speaker 1: school Goku deck was still in there, and I was like,
- 9:10Speaker 1: oh shit, Like that was a why that was a
- 9:12Speaker 1: trip down memory lane. I had a bunch oflf L
- 9:16Speaker 1: five R cards in there, the old school L five
- 9:19Speaker 1: R when they were owned by AEG. Same with Warlord,
- 9:21Speaker 1: which I guess is having a resurgence right now.
- 9:25Speaker 2: That's so weird to hear the name Panini and then
- 9:28Speaker 2: dragon ball Z.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Yeah that's I mean, that's who made them. I don't know,
- 9:32Speaker 1: you got me.
- 9:33Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 9:34Speaker 2: The card games used to be wild because for anyone
- 9:37Speaker 2: that doesn't know, Panini is like mostly known for NFL, NBA,
- 9:43Speaker 2: those kind of cards.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Yeah, for whatever reason they made that. And then like
- 9:47Speaker 1: I had like two starter decks from like a Sailor
- 9:50Speaker 1: Moon card game that we played for a little while there,
- 9:52Speaker 1: Like we bought like some starter decks for at some
- 9:54Speaker 1: convention play and it was so weird. I remember it too,
- 9:58Speaker 1: because like in the Sailor Moon hard game, a lot
- 10:01Speaker 1: of your battles were determined by playing rock paper scissors. Yeah,
- 10:07Speaker 1: it was so weird. And then like I had some
- 10:10Speaker 1: old Gundam stuff in there, like Gundam Like at one
- 10:14Speaker 1: point in time, I think every anime had a card game.
- 10:18Speaker 1: It's possible or every popular anime had a card game.
- 10:24Speaker 2: So, uh, before people turn this off.
- 10:28Speaker 1: This far the altered show.
- 10:32Speaker 2: This is an altered podcast, but the topic of today
- 10:37Speaker 2: is altered compared to other TCGs in a gist, that's
- 10:44Speaker 2: the idea. And I actually met Felix at gen Con.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I was demoing Altered, he was demoing Universes, and we
- 10:56Speaker 2: ended up just working together to trade promos.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Man, I might have met both of you. Yeah, that's crazy.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I was also at gen Con I did do Universes.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I talked with Josh who actually used to be Because
- 11:13Speaker 1: all of a sudden, I turn around. I'm there to
- 11:15Speaker 1: meet my dad, right because there's a Universes was showing
- 11:20Speaker 1: off Godzilla their new Universes, and all of a sudden,
- 11:24Speaker 1: I look around and here's Josh And I was like,
- 11:26Speaker 1: what the Josh used to be the old head of
- 11:31Speaker 1: organized play for FFG and we worked heavily with him
- 11:35Speaker 1: in KeyForge.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Yeah, and I was.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Like, what are you doing here? And then we got
- 11:40Speaker 1: to jawing, and then he talked me into coming and
- 11:42Speaker 1: playing Universes because my daughter really really enjoys. Uh what
- 11:48Speaker 1: is that my hero academia? And they have a yeah,
- 11:52Speaker 1: they had they had a versus from my hero academia.
- 11:54Speaker 1: And then I also wandered over to Alter where I
- 11:57Speaker 1: probably got call and now we talk to each other
- 12:01Speaker 1: on the internet.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Ye, yes, those about right?
- 12:04Speaker 2: How it goes?
- 12:04Speaker 1: Right?
- 12:05Speaker 2: You're uh, you're coming to Houston tomorrow, right, Wookie.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Uh that's a big negative. It is snowing right now
- 12:11Speaker 1: in Wisconsin.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Well that's why you should come to Houston.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Then well, I have I have my own birthday party
- 12:17Speaker 1: plan tomorrow, so I kind of got to show up
- 12:20Speaker 1: to that, all right. My wife said, so, so.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I guess what's what's next on the list. Felix.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Okay, then they go through the list real quick and
- 12:29Speaker 3: then we'll stop.
- 12:30Speaker 4: Uh So pookem on Universes and Altered on my big
- 12:33Speaker 4: three games currently probably gon gonna stick with those. I
- 12:36Speaker 4: did play yu Gi Oh, I did play Magic. I
- 12:39Speaker 4: played the digimont Dji battle card.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Game way way back, which.
- 12:43Speaker 4: Has some similarity to Altered, which I can bring up later.
- 12:47Speaker 4: The Digimon card game from Bendi, the dragon Ball Z
- 12:50Speaker 4: from Score, which is the one from before Pennani, the
- 12:54Speaker 4: Dragon Ball GT which is the same mechanics before Pennani,
- 12:58Speaker 4: the Dragon Ball Z from Panini, the Dragon Ball from Bandai,
- 13:03Speaker 4: the Dragon Ball Super from Bandai, the Dragon Ball Fusion
- 13:06Speaker 4: from Bandai, and then from there it goes out of
- 13:08Speaker 4: Dragon Ball. It's like Magi Nation.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I remember that car game. I love that car game.
- 13:16Speaker 4: They had the Kickstarter anyways, uh Nauto Dual Masters, Kaijudo,
- 13:20Speaker 4: Flesh and Blood Cartfire Vanguard, the Bleach card game from Score,
- 13:25Speaker 4: the Gundam game from Bandai have been demoin for it
- 13:27Speaker 4: and stuff the Final Fantasy. I played the Legnond of
- 13:31Speaker 4: the Fire Rings, the Living Car game. I played the
- 13:34Speaker 4: Neo Pets Battle Down. I played key Forge, although I
- 13:37Speaker 4: haven't touched it in years, and then from there I
- 13:40Speaker 4: go to deck Builders, so antamed Star Realms, Zero Realms,
- 13:44Speaker 4: the Deck Builders, Daimio's Fall.
- 13:46Speaker 3: I played the Bench in Taro, the.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Annas Round Table, uh Boss Monster, and the video games.
- 13:53Speaker 4: You got the Xeno car from Zinosaga, a triple try
- 13:55Speaker 4: It from Final Fantasy, a double twin from Evil Land,
- 13:57Speaker 4: which is a parody, a triple Triad Game of Cards,
- 14:00Speaker 4: which is another parody in Nevile Land. Then just keeps
- 14:03Speaker 4: on going if you other ones, so I can. I've
- 14:10Speaker 4: seen a lot of mechanics that are relatively similar to
- 14:14Speaker 4: Altered so compared to other games, like statistics based, not
- 14:21Speaker 4: battles per se, but the way how the game progresses
- 14:24Speaker 4: are statistics based. So the Bleach card game did that
- 14:27Speaker 4: for a while when it was a thing, because characters
- 14:30Speaker 4: had specific stats that you have to compare to your opponent.
- 14:33Speaker 4: But it was a battle game, so you were definitely
- 14:35Speaker 4: trying to pretty much kill your opponent. Digimon was kind
- 14:39Speaker 4: of the same that you were battling your opponent, but
- 14:41Speaker 4: you were scoring, so there were some statistics similarities to Alter.
- 14:45Speaker 4: But the difference from Alter that I feel is kind
- 14:47Speaker 4: of nice is that it's not a battle card game,
- 14:49Speaker 4: so you're not trying to beat your opponent down. It's
- 14:53Speaker 4: a race in a sense, and that's kind of what
- 14:56Speaker 4: I It's a nice change of pace compared.
- 14:59Speaker 3: To what other games are up played.
- 15:00Speaker 4: And then the usual Mana because it brings me back
- 15:03Speaker 4: to Dual Masters. Because of Dual Masters, you create mana
- 15:07Speaker 4: from cards that you have in your hand, and then
- 15:09Speaker 4: you just cording your handsters into a mona. So it's
- 15:12Speaker 4: similar in that sense, which makes me believe maybe in
- 15:16Speaker 4: the future we might see some cards that return mon.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Out of your hand, but we'll see how that goes.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Yeah, that's interesting. I didn't know that there was another
- 15:26Speaker 2: TCG out there that kind of already did that when
- 15:31Speaker 2: I got into Altered. It was right after, like a
- 15:35Speaker 2: year after or so that Lorcana and uh Star Wars
- 15:39Speaker 2: fun up, and they also resource from your hand.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Well, that's it's an old school mechanic, the resourcing from hand.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I don't remember who came out first Dual Masters. I
- 15:53Speaker 1: don't know if they did it first, because Dual Masters
- 15:55Speaker 1: was designed to get the Eastern markets into Magic.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:04Speaker 1: But another game that did that exact same thing was
- 16:07Speaker 1: the Wow TCG, which I played Wow TCG and they
- 16:11Speaker 1: did the same thing. I don't know who came out first.
- 16:15Speaker 3: I'm not gonna really sure.
- 16:16Speaker 4: I had to go back and through Wikipedia or best
- 16:18Speaker 4: friend and check it out.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm not sure who came out first, but Wow
- 16:21Speaker 1: Wow did the same thing where any card in your
- 16:23Speaker 1: hand could have could be mana.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Yeah. I thought it was genius at the time. Yeah,
- 16:28Speaker 3: so much.
- 16:29Speaker 4: And then the cool thing I'm sorry for. The cool
- 16:32Speaker 4: thing in Dual Mattress is specific is if you turn
- 16:35Speaker 4: the card upside down, there's the number one, which represents
- 16:39Speaker 4: them how much man it actually gives you, which is
- 16:42Speaker 4: kind of bizarre at the time.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Yeah, because it was if I played a little bit
- 16:46Speaker 1: of Duel Masters too, But wasn't it like but each
- 16:51Speaker 1: one was like if it was a yellow car to
- 16:53Speaker 1: produced yellow manna, right yeah, right? And then but yeah,
- 16:57Speaker 1: because like in Wow any kind there was no like
- 17:00Speaker 1: colors really you just either good or evil deck.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Yeah, if the color of the card determined the manna,
- 17:09Speaker 2: can't your opponent see like what's in your hand and
- 17:14Speaker 2: is available color wise?
- 17:16Speaker 4: Or that's part of the game, but you could mix
- 17:19Speaker 4: some match colors. So if you played a dual or
- 17:22Speaker 4: triple colored deck little by little, then it would progressively show.
- 17:26Speaker 3: What colors you're actually playing.
- 17:28Speaker 4: But if you do play a yellow card down as
- 17:31Speaker 4: a MANA, then you know for sure your opponent is
- 17:33Speaker 4: going to have a yellow card yellow cards in their deck.
- 17:36Speaker 4: But then they could, for just random reason, just play
- 17:39Speaker 4: another black MANA later on and they's like, oh, so
- 17:42Speaker 4: he's playing yellow and black at this point, and then
- 17:44Speaker 4: of a sudden a blue one shows up. I was like,
- 17:45Speaker 4: wait a second, But as long as you meet one
- 17:49Speaker 4: at least one man of the color requirement, that was it.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Everything else could be colorless.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Was it? Dual masters also, who had like the strange
- 17:57Speaker 1: catch up mechanic. Oh, it's right, you did shield, right,
- 18:01Speaker 1: You laid five cards faced down and that was shield.
- 18:03Speaker 1: And like some of your shields when your opponent blew
- 18:06Speaker 1: it up, they did things.
- 18:08Speaker 4: Yeah, and they go to your hands, so it gives
- 18:11Speaker 4: you cart advantage your opponting as greedy.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:16Speaker 2: I remember in the in the chat, Dexter mentioned a
- 18:21Speaker 2: very interesting one that he played that I technically was
- 18:27Speaker 2: supposed to create content for at a time, but the
- 18:32Speaker 2: Steam version.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Let me get I said, Soul Forge Fusion.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'd never I'm pretty sure I never did.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Let me log into my influencer site here.
- 18:46Speaker 1: That was such a weird game because like it it plays,
- 18:49Speaker 1: so they're both created by Richard Garfield, and that was
- 18:53Speaker 1: the big draw originally the key Forge was that as
- 18:56Speaker 1: a Richard Garfield game. And you know what happens when
- 18:59Speaker 1: you attach the name rich Garfield of things, right like,
- 19:01Speaker 1: people all of a sudden they are like, I gotta
- 19:03Speaker 1: buy all this because it's gona be worth a bucket
- 19:05Speaker 1: of money someday because magic, right like. And the same
- 19:10Speaker 1: thing happened was Soul Forged Fusion, like which, Soul Forged
- 19:13Speaker 1: Fusion is a great game on computer, it's it is
- 19:21Speaker 1: hard to play in I rl.
- 19:24Speaker 6: Yeah, I've never actually played it, ir I only ever
- 19:27Speaker 6: played it on like tabletop simulator before it was ever released,
- 19:31Speaker 6: and then I played it on Steam later on. I
- 19:33Speaker 6: bought like maybe a starter set, but I never got
- 19:35Speaker 6: around to playing it in person.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, that's weird because I was like, did you
- 19:40Speaker 2: actually play it in person? Because I only ever tried
- 19:44Speaker 2: out the Steam let me see, Yeah, you can see it,
- 19:49Speaker 2: I'll post it in the chat because it doesn't have
- 19:51Speaker 2: any information. But I started playing it and I was
- 19:54Speaker 2: just like, I don't think I can make good content
- 19:58Speaker 2: around this, honestly, and it's like one of the only
- 20:01Speaker 2: ones that I didn't do. And it's like on that
- 20:06Speaker 2: screenshot you see a red X that means I did
- 20:09Speaker 2: not create the content. So also very interesting. I don't
- 20:14Speaker 2: know if you've kept up with it, but I have
- 20:16Speaker 2: not unsubscribed from their mailer list. I think it's like
- 20:21Speaker 2: heavily based in crypto now.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Yeah, very well. I know, right next to key Forge
- 20:29Speaker 1: Nationals because I was there playing in Nationals, they had
- 20:35Speaker 1: the soul Forge Fusion. I think it was their Worlds.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Don't don't quote me on that because I don't know.
- 20:42Speaker 1: I talked to one of the gal that was running
- 20:45Speaker 1: it very briefly, but they were having some like their
- 20:49Speaker 1: big tournament was held at gen Con and there's there's
- 20:52Speaker 1: quite a number of people there. I was actually surprised.
- 20:55Speaker 1: I was like, wow, got a good got a good turnout.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Yeah, interesting, that was an interesting call out. Well, I yeah,
- 21:07Speaker 2: so dex I'll read Dexter's full list or Dexter I.
- 21:12Speaker 6: Can read my list right here.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Yeah, you're so.
- 21:18Speaker 6: First I did key Forge. Then I only did Pokemon
- 21:21Speaker 6: and Magic online. But I've played both of those quite
- 21:24Speaker 6: a bit online. I maybe bought like a few packs
- 21:27Speaker 6: of Pokemon cards and like played some Magic with friends
- 21:30Speaker 6: and command and stuff, but those were both both mostly online.
- 21:33Speaker 6: Then Flesh and Blood I bought into it, probably around
- 21:36Speaker 6: second set, and I played that for a couple of months.
- 21:39Speaker 6: Soul Forge Fusion, like I said, that was all online.
- 21:42Speaker 6: Then Lorcana mostly again online all before it released, and
- 21:46Speaker 6: then I bought a little bit, like a little bit
- 21:49Speaker 6: didn't really care for it. Star Wars Unlimited I actually
- 21:51Speaker 6: played for quite a while, probably like over a year.
- 21:55Speaker 6: I don't know, I don't know. I probably spent like
- 21:58Speaker 6: three hundred four hundred dollar on that game, so not
- 22:00Speaker 6: too much. But I played Star Wars a good bit.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember when you were trying to sell all
- 22:06Speaker 2: of your cards.
- 22:07Speaker 6: I never got around to it, and those are still
- 22:09Speaker 6: all sitting in a box at home.
- 22:11Speaker 1: One day, you're gonna have like three kids and a
- 22:14Speaker 1: wife and you're gonna go open a box and you like,
- 22:16Speaker 1: what are these.
- 22:22Speaker 2: One of the questions I have for Star Wars Unlimited
- 22:24Speaker 2: for anyone here who has played, because I have played
- 22:29Speaker 2: and demoed and judged both altered in Star Wars. And
- 22:33Speaker 2: one of the big things with Star Wars for me
- 22:37Speaker 2: is that the resources you start with actually feels really bad.
- 22:43Speaker 2: So what did you feel the same way playing at Dexter.
- 22:47Speaker 6: Like at the beginning you're putting too much in the
- 22:49Speaker 6: resources and then losing cards.
- 22:51Speaker 2: No, you only put two in right instead of three,
- 22:55Speaker 2: and I don't know, to me, not much of a difference,
- 22:59Speaker 2: but it does feel worse somehow.
- 23:03Speaker 6: It just forces you to play a lot of two
- 23:06Speaker 6: drop cards in your decks because then if you just
- 23:08Speaker 6: have nothing to play your first turn, you're screwed. And
- 23:10Speaker 6: that happened to me a lot in both draft and
- 23:13Speaker 6: sealed in Star Wars. Oh yeah, and it's never fun
- 23:16Speaker 6: to just not have anything first turn and then basically
- 23:19Speaker 6: right off the bat be like, well, there's really not
- 23:22Speaker 6: much I can do. You've already dealt a few damage
- 23:24Speaker 6: to me and have a guy on the board I'm dead.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Forces you to play Boba fet yeah, and then and
- 23:30Speaker 1: then they will suspend him and then you just go, oh,
- 23:36Speaker 1: I just spent like seven hundred dollars on this deck.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Now what do I do?
- 23:41Speaker 2: Yep, as someone who was not playing Sabine or Boba
- 23:45Speaker 2: or any of that and wanted to play just like
- 23:48Speaker 2: like I have a Cassian deck that hole not playing
- 23:52Speaker 2: a card first turn and then basically just losing from
- 23:55Speaker 2: there always felt terrible.
- 23:57Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah, I definitely don't all about that whole
- 24:00Speaker 1: Bulba thing from experience.
- 24:03Speaker 6: I mean, I played Leya a bunch and I played
- 24:05Speaker 6: that all throughout first set.
- 24:09Speaker 1: With playing like the cards that just make you lose?
- 24:14Speaker 1: What do you mean you just you have this weird
- 24:16Speaker 1: You're like, who is playing Leya?
- 24:20Speaker 6: It was a fine mid range tempo deck. B tear.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Okay, So now that we've all talked about different TCGs
- 24:31Speaker 2: and things, one of the things that happens very commonly
- 24:36Speaker 2: when we're talking about altered is what they do versus
- 24:42Speaker 2: what other TCGs do. So my next question for Felix
- 24:47Speaker 2: and then everyone was what are things you've seen with
- 24:51Speaker 2: other TCGs that you would like to see an altered
- 24:54Speaker 2: or even I guess that you're glad are not an altered.
- 25:01Speaker 4: I think one of the things that I noticed was
- 25:05Speaker 4: the rarity distribution, and I think I mentioned it in
- 25:11Speaker 4: the chat the past couple of days about how you
- 25:15Speaker 4: have the basic rarities, Like in Pokemon, for example, you.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Have comments on comments rares, and then you have pretty
- 25:21Speaker 3: much the super rayres after that.
- 25:23Speaker 4: In Magic you have the comments you have I guess
- 25:27Speaker 4: on comments rare mythics, and Final Fantasy you have comments
- 25:32Speaker 4: rare pretty much legendaries. So I'm still surprised that Alterred
- 25:42Speaker 4: has booster boxes. There are thirty six packs in, but
- 25:47Speaker 4: you're only pretty much expecting about four uniques out of
- 25:51Speaker 4: a whole box. It makes investment really rough when you
- 25:55Speaker 4: compare it to other games that you can't expect about
- 25:58Speaker 4: eight or nine. So like, that's kind of something I
- 26:02Speaker 4: miss if I label it unique as an ultrarare. For example,
- 26:11Speaker 4: four ultra rears and thirty six packs is a pretty
- 26:14Speaker 4: rough rate.
- 26:16Speaker 1: I suppose most other booster boxes are twenty.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Four, right, Pokemon has thirty six.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Come, I'm still thirty six?
- 26:25Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 26:25Speaker 1: Are you really pulling? Are you really pulling that many? Well?
- 26:29Speaker 1: Right now? Is it ex that went back to ex right?
- 26:31Speaker 4: Yeah, you can pull about eight and six and eighty
- 26:35Speaker 4: x's and then you have full arts. After that, you
- 26:38Speaker 4: got alternate arts. On top of that, you can exprayers. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 26:46Speaker 4: those trainer galleries out arts, so you can expect them
- 26:49Speaker 4: about ten to twelve cards out of your box to
- 26:52Speaker 4: be relatively higher rarity when you.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Compare it to higher rary doesn't always. I mean some
- 26:58Speaker 1: of those exes and back when I was oh yeah, like.
- 27:02Speaker 4: Big time until the doud uniques that we get.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like it's like, man, I pulled the V
- 27:08Speaker 1: well what I was playing was vmax. Uh it was
- 27:11Speaker 1: like we're going another vmax. Like you go look it
- 27:13Speaker 1: up and it's like thirty six cents, so you're like, oh,
- 27:16Speaker 1: oh yep.
- 27:20Speaker 4: So yeah, the out arts and trainer and the trainer
- 27:22Speaker 4: galleries and the out arts are really the big, big
- 27:26Speaker 4: chase and those are the ones that pretty much collectors
- 27:28Speaker 4: won all the time. But in terms of it's the
- 27:32Speaker 4: rarity that it really confuses me a little bit. It's
- 27:35Speaker 4: just four quotation ulter rears out of thirty six packs.
- 27:39Speaker 3: It's just rough.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Seeah, I've said it on the show before, like the
- 27:44Speaker 1: thing that Pokemon does right and I don't I don't
- 27:46Speaker 1: know how they get it so right is like okay,
- 27:50Speaker 1: so like they have like the those stuff collectors want right,
- 27:55Speaker 1: which which is those those altarts, those super rares, but
- 27:59Speaker 1: like the I'll have regular versions of those cards too,
- 28:02Speaker 1: so they're never like out of reach for anyone, you know,
- 28:05Speaker 1: to where like when you have flesh and Blood, Right,
- 28:08Speaker 1: some of those legendaries I don't even know what's a
- 28:11Speaker 1: cloak going for Nowadays's probably when I was playing, it
- 28:16Speaker 1: was like three twenty three point fifty, yeah, and it
- 28:21Speaker 1: was just like, wow, that's that's a lot, you know,
- 28:25Speaker 1: And these are like staples, right, these are cards you
- 28:28Speaker 1: have to have to be competitive, and Pokemon has just
- 28:32Speaker 1: made it so like, oh, like even if like let's
- 28:36Speaker 1: just say, you know, you want to be competitive, you
- 28:38Speaker 1: can still do it at a relatively cheap budget, right,
- 28:42Speaker 1: You're still able to like play the game relatively inexpensively.
- 28:47Speaker 4: The longitivity of the game and just the IP in
- 28:50Speaker 4: general does help a lot. Sure, just for the fact
- 28:53Speaker 4: that competitive players are not the only ones buying their product.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Is just children in general. Sure, and Alter doesn't the flexibility,
- 29:03Speaker 3: but I don't.
- 29:04Speaker 1: I don't know if like the maybe and maybe it is,
- 29:07Speaker 1: I could be wrong. I'm not a huge fan of
- 29:12Speaker 1: where they sit on like how like because like even
- 29:15Speaker 1: pulling unique and a dud unique is like really rough,
- 29:22Speaker 1: like it just it seems to hit hit even harder
- 29:25Speaker 1: when you're like, I can't even play this. I've I've
- 29:28Speaker 1: pulled a card that's like not feasible for anything, and
- 29:31Speaker 1: it's it's just really tough to pull. I don't know
- 29:35Speaker 1: if that's driving the economy in Altered. Do you guys
- 29:39Speaker 1: think it is? I mean, it probably is.
- 29:44Speaker 2: I have, I think an alternate opinion about things like
- 29:49Speaker 2: that compared to most people. So okay, I how I
- 29:55Speaker 2: see Altered is the fact that it's not one of
- 29:59Speaker 2: those teas where you're going to have as many people
- 30:03Speaker 2: getting into it just to open packs to get stuff
- 30:07Speaker 2: to sell. And I enjoy that. I understand that sometimes
- 30:13Speaker 2: people worry about if that's not a thing, is Altered
- 30:18Speaker 2: going to survive. But if you want things to change,
- 30:22Speaker 2: you have to support the change and like champion it
- 30:27Speaker 2: instead of always being like, oh, Altered's going to die
- 30:31Speaker 2: because you can't, you know, have someone that wants to
- 30:34Speaker 2: buy twelve boxes to be able to open a bunch
- 30:38Speaker 2: of packs and then resell. But that's that's my stance
- 30:42Speaker 2: on it.
- 30:45Speaker 3: I think that's part of the beauty of the game itself.
- 30:47Speaker 4: That people need to get out of the mentality that
- 30:51Speaker 4: uniques are chase cards in a sense because your decks
- 30:57Speaker 4: only already had only seven percent of your deck a uniques.
- 31:01Speaker 1: But some of those uniques are so busted that I agree,
- 31:06Speaker 1: they're so busted. They every one of some of those uniques,
- 31:10Speaker 1: and it's kind of you have them or you don't
- 31:12Speaker 1: right now, if you have one of those uniques that
- 31:16Speaker 1: is just absolutely bonkers, mind blowingly busted, right Like that
- 31:22Speaker 1: really really and no pun intended, that really really can altered, altered, altered,
- 31:28Speaker 1: alter the trajectory of a game where you could be
- 31:31Speaker 1: really far ahead and like one of these uniques hits
- 31:34Speaker 1: and it can just absolutely decimate you. And that's kind
- 31:38Speaker 1: of where I'm at at the point of altered, where
- 31:40Speaker 1: I'm like really kind of frustrated with that, where it's like, man,
- 31:43Speaker 1: I could have made no mistakes, but one unique just
- 31:48Speaker 1: absolutely destroys me.
- 31:51Speaker 2: So let me let me pose this to you. Has
- 31:56Speaker 2: anyone on this Paul that is talking right now, or
- 32:00Speaker 2: anyone in the audience listening hold one of those uniques
- 32:05Speaker 2: that they feel is that high of caliber.
- 32:08Speaker 6: No, no, no, I.
- 32:11Speaker 3: Don't think so.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Yeah, So I would say most people listening or most
- 32:16Speaker 2: people that we talk to, have not. The reason you
- 32:20Speaker 2: see them is because most of the play now is
- 32:23Speaker 2: on BGA, which is a very competitive platform. Like comparing
- 32:29Speaker 2: it to in person and just randomly searching a game
- 32:33Speaker 2: on BGA, the competitive level is like two times on BGA.
- 32:38Speaker 2: I so those uniques are so rare that someone spent
- 32:42Speaker 2: at least two hundred dollars or more to obtain that
- 32:46Speaker 2: very specific one.
- 32:48Speaker 1: But I feel like those are the same people who
- 32:50Speaker 1: are willing to travel to these large events to go
- 32:54Speaker 1: be competitive to I'm very interested when they finally start
- 32:58Speaker 1: doing I don't know how they're going to do it,
- 32:59Speaker 1: if they're to do a series of large events, if
- 33:02Speaker 1: they're just going to do one a year, Like how
- 33:04Speaker 1: they end up doing it is still yet to be seen.
- 33:08Speaker 1: But like I'm I'm interested to see what the in
- 33:12Speaker 1: person meta is versus the versus the online meta, because
- 33:17Speaker 1: it's every game is very different, very different.
- 33:21Speaker 2: I would say at PAS we did not have any
- 33:24Speaker 2: uniques that we saw that were domineering any of the tournaments.
- 33:30Speaker 2: It's going to happen, absolutely, But then the question is,
- 33:35Speaker 2: and this is me asking a question because I don't
- 33:37Speaker 2: have as much experience with competitive How common is that
- 33:41Speaker 2: in other TCGs anyways, where the person with the most
- 33:45Speaker 2: money is going to show up to those events and
- 33:47Speaker 2: have like the best of the best cards that other
- 33:50Speaker 2: people just can't get because of money or rarity.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Well, it's different in other card games, right, because like
- 33:59Speaker 1: uniques and alt and and maybe feelis can back me
- 34:02Speaker 1: up on this, maybe he turns away unique and al
- 34:05Speaker 1: there's only one that's it? There no more, there's one
- 34:11Speaker 1: where like in Magic, like I can pretty much, I
- 34:18Speaker 1: mean because you're you're saying like if money's an object, right, yeah, POKEMONO.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Like all these games. If I can build the tiers
- 34:32Speaker 1: deck or build the Tier one deck, right, I can
- 34:36Speaker 1: get most of the cards. But like the problem in
- 34:40Speaker 1: this game is that, like, okay, so if you know
- 34:43Speaker 1: person x y Z has this unique, he that's it.
- 34:47Speaker 1: I can't get that. I can get maybe a similar one,
- 34:51Speaker 1: but I can't get another one. And I told you
- 34:54Speaker 1: last week, like I'm still looking for that TCG that does.
- 34:59Speaker 1: So what lean towards player skill as opposed to pocket skill, right,
- 35:07Speaker 1: because I mean I'm I'm now an old nerd. I
- 35:11Speaker 1: have disposable income that I can buy stupid things with right,
- 35:16Speaker 1: But like the one ofs is what what kind of
- 35:19Speaker 1: gets me? Because like once you find it, like it's
- 35:22Speaker 1: what what do they want to sell it for? And
- 35:25Speaker 1: can you even get it away from them?
- 35:28Speaker 6: Every like one of that you're talking about, though, like
- 35:32Speaker 6: the super abilities that you're seeking after, there's going to
- 35:34Speaker 6: be at least like twenty of those cards out there
- 35:37Speaker 6: probably that do the same thing, and I think that
- 35:40Speaker 6: is a lot more rare than other card games are
- 35:43Speaker 6: with the most rare cards. So I don't know, I
- 35:47Speaker 6: think it would be still a close comparison.
- 35:49Speaker 1: You said there was a lot more.
- 35:52Speaker 6: No, there's a lot less.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Oh, yes, yeah, there's a lot less. Yes, yeah, there are.
- 35:58Speaker 6: Still some, but I think it would definitely be less.
- 36:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:05Speaker 2: I think the issue we've seen most commonly is the
- 36:08Speaker 2: fact that people have spent enough money to find three
- 36:11Speaker 2: uniques that all do the same thing. They might be
- 36:14Speaker 2: different cards, and they might have subtle differences on how
- 36:18Speaker 2: they do the thing, But when it becomes a problem
- 36:20Speaker 2: is when they have specifically sought out three that do
- 36:24Speaker 2: the same thing so that they can keep doing it.
- 36:27Speaker 2: That's why you see so many people complaining about spindle
- 36:30Speaker 2: harvesters right now and Muna anchoring uniques. But at the
- 36:34Speaker 2: same time, they're not dominating tournaments like hardly ever.
- 36:42Speaker 6: I think that's more to do with just that there's
- 36:45Speaker 6: so few decks that have those cards. And I mean,
- 36:49Speaker 6: at the end of the day, this game is about luck.
- 36:52Speaker 6: And I mean really, all the tournaments we're seeing are
- 36:54Speaker 6: running in best of one. So if that super strong
- 36:57Speaker 6: deck with those three really good uniques, it's a bad draw.
- 37:01Speaker 6: They're dead in the water.
- 37:02Speaker 2: I mean, the only tournament I know that's best of
- 37:04Speaker 2: one is ACE, So the rest are Swiss.
- 37:07Speaker 6: A wall is best of one, well.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Swiss, Yeah, I mean Swiss. Swiss and best of one
- 37:15Speaker 1: are two very different things.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Yeah. No, I see what, I see what Dexter's meaning
- 37:20Speaker 2: though each matchup is not a best of three?
- 37:23Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean was that how they were running my
- 37:26Speaker 1: packs BO three?
- 37:28Speaker 2: Uh? Yes, yes, I think all competitive will be best
- 37:34Speaker 2: of three and then constructed. But so rarity. I had
- 37:41Speaker 2: this thought when Felix was talking about it in the
- 37:44Speaker 2: discord and then earlier today. What do you think if
- 37:49Speaker 2: Altered were to come out and have a rarity between
- 37:53Speaker 2: rare and unique? I think, obviously as usual fifty percent
- 37:59Speaker 2: of the community to throw up their arms and scream
- 38:02Speaker 2: and cry. But what do you guys think.
- 38:05Speaker 6: I would be super happy with that. I think we
- 38:08Speaker 6: need another rarity, And I mean, I think it's fine
- 38:10Speaker 6: how they've designed it so far, and having one infaction
- 38:14Speaker 6: card and then the rare shifts into two factions, but
- 38:17Speaker 6: having one more card at a separate rarity, whether it
- 38:21Speaker 6: stays in faction or has the possibility to shift, or
- 38:25Speaker 6: like Wookie suggests, some colorless cards with a different rarity entirely.
- 38:30Speaker 6: I think there's possibilities for separate rarities of cards.
- 38:33Speaker 7: For sure.
- 38:35Speaker 3: I like the current spread, But I think what I
- 38:38Speaker 3: would like.
- 38:39Speaker 4: What it would be really cool to see, at least
- 38:41Speaker 4: from my side, is the expand and the uniques, where
- 38:47Speaker 4: you have characters that whose unique version is outside of what.
- 38:55Speaker 3: Their rare counterparts are.
- 38:57Speaker 4: So, for example, you pick, let's say, a Hathor that
- 39:01Speaker 4: keeps saying Hatthor for everything, a Hathor, which is a
- 39:04Speaker 4: Lyra slash is mere card, and all of a sudden
- 39:09Speaker 4: unique you have.
- 39:09Speaker 3: A hot Thor and ortis for example. So it could.
- 39:13Speaker 4: Expand maybe an increase the amount of uniques that you
- 39:15Speaker 4: could get. But it does bring another kind of worms
- 39:21Speaker 4: because now you have to look into the algorithm and
- 39:23Speaker 4: make sure that those repeatable effects that are dominating those
- 39:28Speaker 4: uniques that are skyrocking to three hundred euros, for example,
- 39:33Speaker 4: how to control that Because a lot of the uniques
- 39:36Speaker 4: that people are complaining about are ones that have loopable
- 39:38Speaker 4: abilities that trigger outside multiple things.
- 39:42Speaker 3: So for example, the was it the.
- 39:45Speaker 4: Foundry engineer, No, I forget, it's the axiom slash bravos
- 39:49Speaker 4: one that creates a robot every time you get a boost.
- 39:53Speaker 4: It's an ability that triggers out of something else. So
- 39:56Speaker 4: the fact that you can create that event multiple times
- 40:00Speaker 4: and it triggers for every time you create it, it's problematic.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:06Speaker 2: I almost wish in the patch they would have specifically
- 40:09Speaker 2: used the word loupable, because most of us know that's
- 40:13Speaker 2: exactly what they targeted, but they didn't spell it out
- 40:18Speaker 2: that way in the article. It's obviously, as always, very
- 40:23Speaker 2: concise on their reasoning, but I feel like people get
- 40:27Speaker 2: stuck up on not remembering why Jellyfish and the Foundry,
- 40:33Speaker 2: Armor and Garrick were suspended. Yeah, it's because they're loopable,
- 40:39Speaker 2: which can cause a ton of problems, but also people
- 40:44Speaker 2: don't read the article, So I guess you should just
- 40:48Speaker 2: listen to Altered Corner.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Yeah, listen to Altered Corner. Make sure subscribe. Right, we're
- 40:54Speaker 1: on our way to being the sixty sixty first, sixty seventh. Yeah,
- 40:58Speaker 1: the sixty first podcasts are content creator for alternate.
- 41:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, Draconis brings up a good question in the audience.
- 41:07Speaker 2: Should spells and permanence get uniques? My answer, I mean,
- 41:15Speaker 2: I guess.
- 41:15Speaker 1: I know as spells, but yes to unique or yes
- 41:19Speaker 1: to permanence?
- 41:21Speaker 6: Why I say the exact opposite.
- 41:24Speaker 2: I say no to both, but context I think uniques
- 41:29Speaker 2: are just fine the way they are. But I am
- 41:32Speaker 2: an here's outliar.
- 41:33Speaker 1: For the most part, here's a crazy idea. Right, call
- 41:37Speaker 1: me nuts, because everyone's going to tell me why this
- 41:40Speaker 1: won't work. And I understand why it won't work, But
- 41:44Speaker 1: for the sake of competitiveness, I think it would be
- 41:48Speaker 1: more beneficial to the game. What if in high level
- 41:57Speaker 1: competitive play you were not allowed to use uniques? What
- 42:04Speaker 1: if you were allowed maybe like three extra rare slots
- 42:07Speaker 1: or something like that does well? Who oh, I don't know.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Is that what they do?
- 42:15Speaker 6: Yeah? Exalts in some of their leagues at least I know.
- 42:22Speaker 1: Uniques aren't a thing. Or does it just make it
- 42:25Speaker 1: does it make it better?
- 42:28Speaker 3: I think there's some of this charm.
- 42:30Speaker 6: I think it could make sense in the future if
- 42:32Speaker 6: there's enough traction to do both a uniques allowed and
- 42:37Speaker 6: a non uniques allowed competitive events, just to maybe eliminate
- 42:44Speaker 6: some of having to pay a whole bunch of money.
- 42:48Speaker 6: But I don't think it would make sense to just
- 42:51Speaker 6: limit it to no uniques, since that takes away one
- 42:54Speaker 6: of the main core components of the game.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I have a very small, like data sample, but
- 43:03Speaker 2: I would say for that to even be possible, I
- 43:05Speaker 2: think the group of players like around the world would
- 43:11Speaker 2: have to increase by a lot for that team popular
- 43:15Speaker 2: because if we look at the off weeks we do
- 43:19Speaker 2: for ACE, there's like ten people that sign up when
- 43:23Speaker 2: the normal season is like fifty sixty.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Sure again, just a thought, right, don't don't ever everybody's
- 43:31Speaker 1: gonna like we be like that's dumb, like it probably
- 43:34Speaker 1: is right now.
- 43:36Speaker 2: I think the more people that get into Altered I
- 43:39Speaker 2: think it makes alternate formats more likely. I mean, it's
- 43:44Speaker 2: just like, you know, Commander was around for a very
- 43:48Speaker 2: long time, but didn't explode at least in my eyes
- 43:52Speaker 2: until like the last three to five years.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was very like it was super casual too, right,
- 44:00Speaker 1: Like nobody was really you know, now there's all these
- 44:03Speaker 1: people and it's crazy. Right now everybody's playing basically playing CDH.
- 44:09Speaker 4: But I just Universes as well. The worlds are happening
- 44:13Speaker 4: this weekend, and during Worlds there's a ton of side
- 44:19Speaker 4: events based on all sorts of different formats. So you
- 44:22Speaker 4: can expect the draft that Alter can do. You can
- 44:26Speaker 4: expect the seal that even Alter does. But then I
- 44:29Speaker 4: guess because of just the longitivity and just the age
- 44:33Speaker 4: of the game. You have spotlight events, which are focused
- 44:37Speaker 4: on specific individual properties. You got Retro format, which is
- 44:42Speaker 4: the modern version of Universes, which includes cars back from
- 44:47Speaker 4: two twenty ten. You got some other really random forms
- 44:53Speaker 4: like old dogs, new tricks. You can use cars from
- 44:55Speaker 4: all the way, way way way back. But that's because
- 44:58Speaker 4: the game is lived for along.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I just I mean number one, it allows you know,
- 45:04Speaker 1: everybody wants to play a game on a different level.
- 45:06Speaker 1: For Altered, I have been super casual with it, but
- 45:09Speaker 1: that's not everybody, right, So somebody was like I want
- 45:12Speaker 1: to get into this and I want to get into
- 45:14Speaker 1: the competitive sphere. What does that look like? Right? And
- 45:21Speaker 1: again we haven't. We've only had what two or three
- 45:24Speaker 1: in person in the United States in person events that
- 45:29Speaker 1: were of large scaler canible.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Yeah, two unless you count gen Con than three.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:38Speaker 2: Gen Con is hard to count because it was before
- 45:41Speaker 2: the game officially launched, and while there was competitive style events,
- 45:47Speaker 2: it wasn't constructed. But yeah, Packs and Gamers Guild Arizona.
- 45:53Speaker 2: There was another tournament that someone tried to start up,
- 45:57Speaker 2: I think around Boston or something, but it was it
- 46:00Speaker 2: was not very big.
- 46:02Speaker 1: I just I kind of feel like too, like I
- 46:07Speaker 1: was going somewhere with that. Oh. The level of competitiveness
- 46:12Speaker 1: with uniques is like very like there is a huge
- 46:16Speaker 1: gap yep, from like all the different factions have these
- 46:21Speaker 1: massive gaps between them.
- 46:24Speaker 6: There are definitely uniques that fill those gaps, and it's
- 46:27Speaker 6: a sliding scale for sure, but we generally either see
- 46:31Speaker 6: very mid uniques that people probably open them theirselves, or
- 46:34Speaker 6: uniques that people probably bought for two hundred plus dollars.
- 46:37Speaker 6: So it's often that we see either the meh or
- 46:40Speaker 6: the very good instead of just seeing the super solid
- 46:43Speaker 6: probably like fifty to one hundred dollars range uniques, but
- 46:46Speaker 6: they definitely do exist. It's a sliding scale.
- 46:48Speaker 2: I would say, yeah, what was that Felix as Ymour
- 46:54Speaker 2: uniques forer box. Yeah, I don't think too many. I mean,
- 46:59Speaker 2: I'll be the and to complain about that. If there
- 47:02Speaker 2: are more uniques per box, does it make them less unique?
- 47:08Speaker 1: No, it's just there's there's still unique right Like, but like,
- 47:14Speaker 1: if there are more uniques per box, it does give
- 47:17Speaker 1: you more opportunity to pull something worthwhile, because I mean
- 47:22Speaker 1: I showed you guys all my uniques. What do I got?
- 47:27Speaker 4: I remember Julio opened a case a couple of weeks
- 47:32Speaker 4: ago and I think three of his boxes had five
- 47:37Speaker 4: uniques and three of them had four.
- 47:41Speaker 2: That was really good luck. That's yeah with for a
- 47:47Speaker 2: trial by Frost, right, Yeah, yeah, I feel like that's
- 47:52Speaker 2: incredible luck.
- 47:53Speaker 4: We did a crazy faction break that day and we Yeah,
- 47:57Speaker 4: He's like, we'll open all these boxes and all the
- 48:00Speaker 4: factions around and just pay for the for the faction
- 48:04Speaker 4: break that you want it.
- 48:05Speaker 3: So that's cool.
- 48:08Speaker 2: Yeah, we did a faction break a couple of weeks ago.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Creative wanted more mona cards, but couldn't get a whole box.
- 48:18Speaker 2: So I was like, all right, I'll just order one
- 48:20Speaker 2: and then we can split it between you, me and Dexter.
- 48:24Speaker 2: And we got three uniques in that box.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Somebody would have told me, yeah, later, Wie is always
- 48:34Speaker 1: faction breaks. Always in our faction breaks ages.
- 48:40Speaker 4: They might do a box breaks sealed Faction breaks shield,
- 48:44Speaker 4: but I mean, still.
- 48:46Speaker 1: Living in Wisconsin, little problem of big distance.
- 48:53Speaker 2: Yeah, So I posted a thirty nine cards link in
- 48:56Speaker 2: the audience and the first player there. If you look
- 49:02Speaker 2: at that player that took first, this isn't in person event,
- 49:06Speaker 2: this one is in France. Yes, their uniques are not
- 49:11Speaker 2: that crazy to me. I feel like one of them
- 49:15Speaker 2: is really good and that's the Ruinscribe and the other
- 49:18Speaker 2: are just fine. But while the rest of you look
- 49:24Speaker 2: at that WOOKI would you would it just blow your
- 49:28Speaker 2: mind to know that the most complained about uniques right
- 49:30Speaker 2: now are in Muna.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Would it blow my mind?
- 49:34Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 49:35Speaker 1: No, Altered players are weird. I'm just I'm gonna flat
- 49:38Speaker 1: out say, like, I've met the community. It's a great community, right,
- 49:43Speaker 1: but like the things that are complained about, just like
- 49:46Speaker 1: are the weirdest shit I've ever heard. It's just like,
- 49:50Speaker 1: that's not really a problem, and it's like but it is.
- 49:53Speaker 1: It's like but but but it's not not really a problem.
- 49:59Speaker 2: I just that's yeah, that's that's another good conversation.
- 50:05Speaker 1: That's a conversation for another day. But no, what was
- 50:08Speaker 1: the question again?
- 50:10Speaker 2: These these uniques, so there's all I guess I should
- 50:12Speaker 2: read them for people listening.
- 50:14Speaker 1: So I'm looking at you too. So one's a boundary mechanic,
- 50:20Speaker 1: pretty average. You know, if you control tokens, you create
- 50:23Speaker 1: the recruit, or if you control a token, when played
- 50:26Speaker 1: from anywhere, you create the recruit.
- 50:29Speaker 2: From reserve, you create two recruits. In my expedition, So.
- 50:34Speaker 1: Oh, I'm sorry, you're right, Yeah, I'm on a different
- 50:36Speaker 1: deck my bed. I was. I was. I immediately was like,
- 50:42Speaker 1: screw artists, what's this? Fed and crowbar?
- 50:45Speaker 2: No where I'm talking about who took first?
- 50:47Speaker 1: Yeah? But yeah, when played from reserve, you control a token,
- 50:51Speaker 1: create an artist recruit. In my expedition, quick action is
- 50:55Speaker 1: the next permanent you play this afternoon costs one last.
- 50:58Speaker 1: That's a very that's a very uh lyra thing to do.
- 51:04Speaker 1: The run scribe make another non token or when another
- 51:07Speaker 1: non token creature joins your expedition. If you control a token,
- 51:11Speaker 1: create an artist one one one soldier token in my expedition,
- 51:16Speaker 1: or you can just quick action to create a token
- 51:19Speaker 1: soldier in your hero Is expedition. And then there's an
- 51:26Speaker 1: Athena which you can sack a character. If you do
- 51:31Speaker 1: up to two target characters each game, two boosts, play
- 51:34Speaker 1: it from a reserve. If you control one or more landmarks,
- 51:38Speaker 1: it loses fleeting. Yeah, that's not great.
- 51:42Speaker 2: The rune scribe is very good. It's a very good
- 51:45Speaker 2: Ortis unique, but the other two are just average.
- 51:49Speaker 1: The Athenas I don't even know if that's good.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Uh, it isn't sicky?
- 51:56Speaker 1: Is it?
- 51:56Speaker 3: What?
- 51:56Speaker 1: You just? You just sack a token.
- 51:59Speaker 3: Yep and.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Boosts.
- 52:02Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's five costs, so it's a little harder
- 52:06Speaker 2: to get rid of at least and beyond the gates.
- 52:08Speaker 1: All right, so here's my gym. All right, you're all
- 52:11Speaker 1: ready for my soapbox. I slammed it down. How the
- 52:15Speaker 1: hell did Ortis get beat to a bloody like literally,
- 52:20Speaker 1: like everything I feel like everything Equinox has done is
- 52:25Speaker 1: designed to like target Ortis and like stop them from
- 52:29Speaker 1: controlling the world. And yet somehow they're still controlling the world.
- 52:36Speaker 1: How does this happen?
- 52:37Speaker 6: I haven't done that much to Siggy at all. It
- 52:39Speaker 6: was just the awesome.
- 52:40Speaker 1: It was mainly Wau, I will give you that.
- 52:43Speaker 6: But like they have murdered war again and again.
- 52:46Speaker 1: It's just like it's like the head of the hydra, right,
- 52:49Speaker 1: like you chop one off, two more pop up. It's
- 52:51Speaker 1: like what was always good?
- 52:54Speaker 6: Yeah, and just less people were playing Siggy because Waru
- 52:57Speaker 6: is so prevalent.
- 52:58Speaker 2: Yeah, in my opinion, it's because artists has the most
- 53:03Speaker 2: access to the most valuable low cost units. There are
- 53:10Speaker 2: so many good one and two cost units in artists
- 53:15Speaker 2: that they are just like unstoppable, which also makes their
- 53:20Speaker 2: uniques a lot better as well, because there is no
- 53:27Speaker 2: artists unique that you are afraid of pulling because it's
- 53:32Speaker 2: gonna cost ten or nine or eight. Like, I literally
- 53:36Speaker 2: don't think I've ever seen an artist unique go that high.
- 53:41Speaker 6: Man.
- 53:41Speaker 1: I just want somewhere to put my unique robin Hood
- 53:43Speaker 1: in my lyra, Like, uh.
- 53:48Speaker 6: That are pretty high.
- 53:49Speaker 2: Yeah, aness is uh, a fauness is meta now, so
- 53:52Speaker 2: Robinhood is actually good. People are just still scared to
- 53:55Speaker 2: using but one.
- 53:59Speaker 6: Yeah, the Faunas is the Faunas and Cigure definitely the two.
- 54:02Speaker 1: Man three unique spindle harvesters. That's crazy.
- 54:06Speaker 6: I'm looking at that deck right now, bas this neck
- 54:08Speaker 6: looks perfect, Bananas, I'm gonna make my faunas just like this,
- 54:13Speaker 6: except not.
- 54:15Speaker 1: I still got to build by deck that makes Cole
- 54:18Speaker 1: regret his life choices.
- 54:20Speaker 2: Oh gosh, I'm really live in Wisconsin.
- 54:22Speaker 1: Now, Yeah, just be like, hey, you want to you
- 54:25Speaker 1: want to change those life choices? Maybe?
- 54:27Speaker 2: Maybe so, Hey, I think we went over one thing,
- 54:31Speaker 2: Oh yeah, altered that. We'd like to see an altered
- 54:36Speaker 2: what what else you got? What other things from other
- 54:39Speaker 2: TCGs could altered? Take on? Or even just want to
- 54:44Speaker 2: come back in general because you miss it?
- 54:51Speaker 1: Does this open to anyone?
- 54:53Speaker 3: Or thinking what else from other cards and he could bring?
- 54:57Speaker 1: I mean, honestly, I'm I'm because this is me and
- 55:01Speaker 1: I'm kind of weird.
- 55:03Speaker 3: I just want to pick up.
- 55:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm man to pick up.
- 55:07Speaker 1: I mean, it's only second set in so you know,
- 55:10Speaker 1: here we are. But I would really like you guys
- 55:14Speaker 1: have it so good down by you that you guys
- 55:16Speaker 1: have a community down there that has like really taken
- 55:20Speaker 1: to the game, and like you have the ability to
- 55:23Speaker 1: play it.
- 55:24Speaker 2: I love how you explain it that way when it's
- 55:27Speaker 2: literally a community that we've like scraped together.
- 55:30Speaker 1: And still get like twenty people.
- 55:34Speaker 6: No, no, where are you getting twenty from?
- 55:37Speaker 1: I just kind of I assumed probably we.
- 55:40Speaker 2: Know Trial by Frost has been better, which means we've
- 55:44Speaker 2: had consistently five people well in my area October, November, December,
- 55:52Speaker 2: and a little bit of January. I was the only
- 55:55Speaker 2: one showing up, so it couldn't.
- 55:56Speaker 4: Fire like I'm just Houston has been hovering into pretty
- 56:04Speaker 4: big from three to ten, but it's on and off.
- 56:09Speaker 4: These past couple of weeks have been three, three or four.
- 56:13Speaker 1: The way I read that question is how can we
- 56:15Speaker 1: make altered better to get like a larger community?
- 56:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, if that's how you want to take it,
- 56:20Speaker 2: I mean.
- 56:21Speaker 1: That's how I read it.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Right, So two of you have played a shit ton
- 56:26Speaker 2: of TCGs and then Dexter's played a good amount and
- 56:31Speaker 2: I've played like two, So.
- 56:33Speaker 1: Like, how do you you have to somehow, some way
- 56:36Speaker 1: gets store owners interested, and the question is how how
- 56:40Speaker 1: do you make that happen?
- 56:43Speaker 4: I think something that is possible, but it's going to
- 56:46Speaker 4: be very, very difficult is if they have collaborations.
- 56:52Speaker 1: Get like a larger IP involved.
- 56:55Speaker 2: Correct, which is also something that people said they quit
- 57:00Speaker 2: Altered if they did.
- 57:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 57:03Speaker 1: So it's a fun but like this is the game
- 57:06Speaker 1: to do it though, right, Like nothing's off the table.
- 57:09Speaker 1: You already have like strange IP correlations in here, right,
- 57:16Speaker 1: Like not directly, like you don't directly have like Marvel
- 57:21Speaker 1: in here, but you already have like a low key
- 57:24Speaker 1: right that's already in there. That's that's very you know, Mark.
- 57:30Speaker 2: I am also of the opinion that Altered could do
- 57:34Speaker 2: it in a very cool way where they could make
- 57:38Speaker 2: it their own, because that is Altered's thing right now, right,
- 57:42Speaker 2: Like all of these characters exist in like mythology or
- 57:47Speaker 2: different stories, legends things like that. I think there are
- 57:54Speaker 2: a handful that are created just for Altered. But there's Alice,
- 57:59Speaker 2: there's you know, the Two Fairy or Loki as you mentioned,
- 58:04Speaker 2: a clue like Scottie. Like, all of these are from
- 58:08Speaker 2: different culture myth and legends. So I think if they
- 58:13Speaker 2: did like a like Grim fairy Tale team up or
- 58:18Speaker 2: something like and did it in their style, I think
- 58:24Speaker 2: it would be really cool.
- 58:25Speaker 6: That would be super cool yeah. I mean they already
- 58:27Speaker 6: have the three Little pigs, right, yep, yep.
- 58:30Speaker 1: I mean something that could be cool weird. I mean
- 58:33Speaker 1: maybe it is, maybe it isn't. I mean with a
- 58:37Speaker 1: lot of this stuff, there is uh you guys ever
- 58:42Speaker 1: watch or maybe you've heard of the TV show Supernatural?
- 58:47Speaker 6: No?
- 58:47Speaker 2: I never heard of it?
- 58:50Speaker 6: Are you?
- 58:50Speaker 1: Are you serious? Of course I've heard of Just listen.
- 58:55Speaker 1: I mentioned it the other day and somebody had told
- 58:57Speaker 1: me that and they're like, I've never heard of that.
- 59:00Speaker 1: Like oh really, wow, Like it was on for like
- 59:03Speaker 1: seventy nine seasons or something like that. I don't know it,
- 59:06Speaker 1: it was on for forever. I mean when you're talking collab,
- 59:09Speaker 1: that could be a very cool collab, right. I mean
- 59:13Speaker 1: you're getting a little dark there, right, You're going into
- 59:15Speaker 1: things like the devil and angels and stuff of that nature.
- 59:19Speaker 1: But again, this is all stuff and like mythological lore, right,
- 59:24Speaker 1: and you have a very fanatical built in play. Uh yeah,
- 59:31Speaker 1: fan base. I'll get that word out eventually, right, Like,
- 59:35Speaker 1: it's all stuff that is already pretty much available to
- 59:39Speaker 1: the altered first that you can work and you know,
- 59:44Speaker 1: a little obscure, but like you have a huge fan
- 59:47Speaker 1: base already. I mean, geez, my wife's watched Supernatural like
- 59:52Speaker 1: seventeen times, right, Like you have a huge fanatical fan
- 59:56Speaker 1: base that'd be like, oh what what's this and that
- 59:59Speaker 1: might check it out.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I am. This is a side note, but I
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: am so ready for like the dark themed set and Altered.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: There's already demons. I mean, Basira is literally her idol
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: On or whatever is a demon. There's as modious like soakabaru,
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: I am, I am.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: Are there any angels an Altered? You know, I never
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: really looked I I never even really knew about the
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: demons either, to be fair, like, I never really looked
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: too much into the characters except when you're like, oh
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: like thor lokay, I know these these people?
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. I mean unless you count Sun
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: Wukong as an angel of some sort. I'm not sure
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: we can this. Uh, this last one we can do
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: real quick. The last slotted, written down question I had
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: for Felix was how is it teaching Altered versus other TCGs.
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: Luckily, it has been pretty smooth, just for the fact
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: that their decks are locked to a specific color, so
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: faction pretty much and Mona was pretty much cuddle us,
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: so you don't have to think in terms of colors
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: and so on, and the statistics is pretty straightforward as
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: you placed up around. So in that sense, it's been
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: pretty simple compared to some of the other games that
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: I've had to teach before.
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: Now, I think some.
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: Of the teams that hit before use scripts when teaching
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: the game, So that's something that was different when I
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: when I participated in a demo back at Gen Con,
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: so that was kind of that was different for.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: Sure that we didn't have a script.
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: Yeah, correct, for universes, we have a script. Okay, we
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: play it, we play around. People forget the script, but
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: there is a script to at least have them go
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: over the basic mechanics at the game, and we have
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: that game end with the script. So it doesn't allow,
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: at least currently, a lot of flexibility in terms of
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: people to just practice stuff on their own. Pokemon allows
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: for it a little bit just because it does have
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: a script, but it's very easy to just turn forty
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: five degrees and you go out of a ravine and
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: you just to improvise at that point. But that was
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: different in a sense because I've been practicing with a
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: script for.
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: So long, but it is. It is nice just because
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: it's pretty straightforward.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: We had a script for the roadshows and it kind
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: of introduced you to the world have altered a little
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: bit and like what happened and the confluence and things
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: like that, and then we had like a way that
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: we were going through how to describe the game, and
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: we had like the demo deck set out. But for
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: gen Con, the main focus was like a quick demo
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: where we let them sit down, run through it real quick,
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: and be like you can play until you finish, or
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: now that I've you know, given you the quick demo,
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: you can you can leave if you need and get
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: your promo. So I really like the way that we
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: did it at gen Con. I think it was done
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: the same at Packs, but I was judging instead of demoing,
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: so I'm not sure if they had anything else set up.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: But yeah, it's it's very easy to approach and teach
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: from the outside looking in, like just imagining how I
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: would teach Key Forge or Universes or something. It's just
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: it seems like a whole lot.
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: Yeah, Universes has a problem when it comes to teaching,
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: and it says that there's a lot of reading you
- 1:04:03Speaker 4: need to be done, and there's a lot of timing
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: issues I need to keep track of, and all these
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: ability types they need to keep track of.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: Yeah, one of the reasons I kind of stopped doing
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: that stuff with Star Wars is I just can't keep
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: up with it. When I did the roadshow for Star Wars,
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: it was literally only two decks. One person was playing
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: the Luke Deck and one person was playing the Vader
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: and that was it. So like you were just teaching
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: two specific demo decks. Yeah, now it just sounds scary
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: for me to try to dive back in and learn
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: that meta since I'm not as connected to it.
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: So there's also that the mechanics of the game, what
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: I like to say, is a kin to chess, which
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: Pokemon has a similarity to. So every player their turn
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: a sacred so they get the pace themselves when they play,
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: and then they pass to turn to your opponent to
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: do the same.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: So it allows for them to sit down and really
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: think things through.
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: But when you have something like magic the Gathering, or
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: you gi oh or universes in this case, there's a
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: lot of intricactive windows where you can cut in and
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: respond to.
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: Stuff and overcomplicates a lot.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: I'm very glad that Altered does not have the turn
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: cycle that like Magic does, because if you look at
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: the full like turn cycle on how Magic is supposed
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: to work, and you're like trying to work through it
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: on paper, it's too much. I ain't got time for that.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: All right, you guys ready for questions, Let's do it.
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: Since I've let Cole drive the show to to.
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: Well, I mean I figured you were just, you know,
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: smooching the wife or something. You went quiet for a moment.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: No, I've been here. I've just been listening. You know.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: Sometimes I do that. I sometimes I just listen. I know,
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: it's I know it's odd to hear. Yeah, I just
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: I you know, I've really been deep into that question,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Like I have been thinking about it, like what did
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: other how did other TCGs? Like what are they not
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: necessarily maybe doing different? But like I do like Altered,
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: I wish I could play it more. I wish I
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: had a local that I could be like, hey, guys,
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: you know, and go in and and like play games.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: Like my schedule's kind of packed already right with all
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: the show as I do and stuff like that, so
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: it's kind of like one of those things. It's like
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: I just don't have anybody local that does anything. I mean,
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: I I created the Milwaukee area altered Facebook page, which
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: is weird, like I just kind of expected it to
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: be there, and it wasn't. Like how do we get
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: like the storefront to be like, yep, this is something
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: I want to support, this is something And that's where
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: I went with it, like how do we grow the
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: community base? How do we get it bigger? And it's
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: like that leads me to the questions of, well, who
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: really drives community in anything? The store owners, right, they
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: can make a buck off it, they'll support it. But
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: how do I make it so that my local store
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: owner can make a buck off it and they're willing
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: to support it. And that's that's one I'm I'm baffled
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: at at the current time because there's so I mean,
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: I feel like it's two thousand and five, two thousand
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: and six all over again. There's so many damn card
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: games out again, Like we're in that such it's very
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: cyclical how card games go. There's like forty seven thousand
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: of them or there's like five right like, and it's
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: it keeps going in that same kind of cycle. You know.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: I remember way again, way back when in two thousand
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: and five, man, there was so many card games. I'm
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: playing Battlestar GALACTICUS, CCG, Hakkatou, Magi Nation Warlord. I get
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: so many different you know, L L five R. I'm
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: playing so many different TCGs, and then like all these
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: are now gone, right AG Well, I don't think AG
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: went defunked, but they stopped really like doing anything with
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: card games, and then all these you know, they everything
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: kind of fell off the face of the planet and
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: it moved more into like hexpayra hex clickbased games and
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: Hero Clicks was like booming, and then all of a sudden,
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: nobody wanted to play hero Clicks anymore, and everybody moved
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: into like different miniature games where it was like Star Wars,
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: Like I don't know if you guys remember the Star
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Wars miniature game when they tried to be like, hey,
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: what if we took miniature's and put them in PA
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: and had people buy them for an insane amount of
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: money apiece. Like everybody went to that, And now we're
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: back at it where it's like everything has a card game.
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, well, I have good news for you Wookie. Yeah,
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: there are three events in Milwaukee right now on the map.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: Oh are there? They finally added some I know there's
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: one in one of the game stores. I don't go.
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: Well, we talked about Battle Brothers before, so they're still there.
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: The new names I don't recognize are Board Game Barrister
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: and odd Willows Game Haven.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: I have never heard of odd Willow's Game Haven, and
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: I'm going to google it right now. I have heard
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: of Board Game Barrister, Odd Willows Willow.
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: Yeah, the competition is so high. They just started Grand
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: Archive weeklies at the lgs that I go to, so
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: they're on the same night as Altered every like.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: Oh that's.
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: Your band.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: No, no, no, it's like it's like an hour away.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: Every time we bring Lookie brings this up.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: I know you're like, I drive, I drive in the
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: snow uphill both ways to go play.
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not even saying that. It's just like, oh, look,
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: there's three new stories, and then Lookie's like, oh, that's
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: too far away.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: I always feel like if I was in Madison.
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: Live in the middle of nowhere is what I I don't.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: I live right outside of Milwaukee, but like the hub
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: of like the awesome hub for like all these places
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: to go play is always like it's always like Madison,
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: Like Madison's an hour and a half. For me, it's
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: it's always so far away. It's like, why is everything
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: so far away? Board game Barristers. It's run by a
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: guy that I don't necessarily like. So, yeah, that's a thing.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: That's that's that's that. That's on me. That's on me.
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: So quick. Quick answer to your question is we're all
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: organizing via discord. The hive is starting up.
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: But.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: We're holding Felix here hostage.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: Oh I'm sorry, Felix, we're holding you the day of
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: all things.
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: How's How's well? This is another little side. Is the
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: kid okay? Good? Doing okay? Feeling better?
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: Ups and down pretty much? We'll see how she does tomorrow.
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: All right, Well, what is your favorite piece of lower
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: so far? From jaconis atreon question.
- 1:11:51Speaker 6: I'll start the hero's lower so far. I don't haven't
- 1:11:55Speaker 6: done in particular that I like more than others, but
- 1:11:59Speaker 6: Siggy I like his griffin.
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: Yeah, Felix, did you say you had something?
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: I have done my homework. I've read two pieces of laur.
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: I read SIGGI and I read GARRICKT and I've skipped
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: everything else.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: You're really wanting those Garrick uniques, aren't you?
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: Yes, I do any one more, any one with a
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: zero statistic lyra.
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: One I will. Yeah, we're all very bad at Laura,
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: So I apologize for clonez. It's something that I want
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: to work on. I really do, because a lot of
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: the concepts are dope. My answer is a cop out.
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: I just really like how the world is built and
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: the fact that there is technically no one outside of
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: the realm of possibility besides copyright law. Like I've said,
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: Winnie the Cook exists. There is a Winnie the Poo card.
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: It just cannot come out because it is not public
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: domain in the UK. So whoever is a legendary character
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: in one way or another in the world, they could
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: maybe go to altered one day.
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: I do like the fact that we have a map,
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: so it makes nice.
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: Visualized where exactly everything is located, and it's something that
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: I enjoy from some books that I've read, like Stonelike
- 1:13:26Speaker 4: Archive it has a map. Then you know the fiber Rings,
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: it has a map, so it makes easy to pinpoint
- 1:13:33Speaker 4: where exactly the story is going on.
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: I'm looking at this Battle Brothers now, so Google Maps
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: takes me to literally it takes me to Brazil and
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: Benski LLLC Family Law Firm. So now I'm like super confused,
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: Like where where's Battle Brothers here?
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: I am poor at lore at best. I agree with you, like,
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: I like the ability to like there's there is no
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: like out of the realm of possibility. Mm hmmm, because
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: that means you can do whatever you want. And for
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: a game to more or less own its own own
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: IP makes things pretty dope, right, because that means that
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: there's no cost to it, and that's normally what kills
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: a lot of card games is the fact that it
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: is costs you an arm and a leg to own
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: the IP.
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: Yeah, do things as well that I just realized. The
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: way that they created the world allows for the flexibility
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: to just introducing a lot of things at the same time.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: I think back to letting you to the Five Rings,
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: and it will be pretty cool if they hold champion
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: chips where winners of factions can decide on what happens
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: in the story.
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: You know they finally took I I okay, you ready
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: for this? I'm gonna claim ownership of this because I
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: don't think Gigi actually listens to this Ghost Galaxy. So
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: I had brought this up to Ghost Galaxy many moons
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: ago that hey, you know there's factions in the game
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: that and this is key Forge. There's factions of this game,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: and man, it would be pretty dope if you held
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: an event just like old school L five R did,
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: where like the outcome of the event determines what happens.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: And they came up with the Mars Civil War event,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: which is total that Like, it was probably the best
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: event Gigi has ever run that wasn't involving like a
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: lot of travel, right because you can just go to
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: your local lgs and play it. Great event, and I
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: love games that do that. I hope to see more
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: of it in other card games because that's so much fun.
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: I got to participate in one of those, and it's
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: so much fun knowing like you're controlling what's happening next.
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that's pretty dope. I remember reading a little bit
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: about that, but then most of what I read about
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: it was people complaining about how it was done as usual.
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: So I mean there was some issues, but like they
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: they would have like clan battles right where like you're
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: going to this large event and like it's a clan battle,
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: meaning you can only bring a deck of that clan.
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: So it was like something, you know, maybe something was
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: going on with Dragon Clan or Phoenix or whoever it was,
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: and like they would have these giant clan battles and
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: I know that rub people a lot the wrong way
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: because they're like, well, I don't play Phoenix. It's like,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: what do you do now if you want to play
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: in this event. I don't know if if those ever
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: weren't off as good, but.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: I this is my p s A to anyone and
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: everyone try a different deck you might have on Ye.
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: I'm going to try it. But I told you what's
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: going to happen.
- 1:17:14Speaker 6: I'm proud of you.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw I think it was. I saw Pandy
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: Andy's deck like list. I was like, you have two decks?
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: What the fuck? And he was like yeah, I could
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: not believe it. Two two. I'm gonna show you a
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: screenshot as we go to this next question.
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: What do you want you want me to read the
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: next the next question while you look for your screenshot? Yeah,
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: all right, So from Josh a. How do you how
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: does the cast feel about the current limits to printing
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: on demand promo cards and alternate arts? What do you
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: mean the limits?
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: So I'll give you my answer real quick in that
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: I don't care which I would.
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: What do you mean limits? What limits were put on?
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I was gonna say I might put the wrong
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: amount because I don't care. But it's like, if you
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: have an alt art or a promo, you can only
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: print it. I think one time a year. I think
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: that is the limit.
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: Ooh oh that's only for all dart and promos though, right.
- 1:18:27Speaker 6: Yeah, just all dart promos.
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: Oh. I still don't know if I like that. I
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: guess that.
- 1:18:33Speaker 6: I mean, I know, I know why a lot of
- 1:18:37Speaker 6: people don't like the role, but I'm fine with it.
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: Well because now if I get rid, I don't know
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: that that could get dicey. I understand why they're doing it,
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: but I don't know if I like that.
- 1:18:51Speaker 4: Yeah, it would allow for the twenty twenty three promos
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: to still keep their value for those that are very
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: highly collectors.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: But I'm also twenty twenty three promos just hero like,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: they're just full art heroes, right.
- 1:19:06Speaker 6: Yeah, they're just full art heroes.
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: Yep, but a set of them goes for about a grand.
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: Are you serious?
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: Yep?
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: Oh wow, I sold mine for just over eight hundred.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: So okay, you've got all of them.
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I've been working with Altered since before the Kickstarter. Okay, yeah,
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: I was I was just too poor to back the kickstarter. Yeah,
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: I mean, honestly, I guess I should provide a better
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: answer than I don't care, because the further part of
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: this is is it too restrictive and encourages predatory selling?
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: I think so there's there's two sides here. Is a
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: lot of people always complain about how Altered doesn't have
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: that chase or that investment aspect, but then at the
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: same time are upset about not being able to reprint
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: certain things. So I don't think you can have both.
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: I think they are rare and harder to obtain for
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: a reason. So I think I like the fact that
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: you can't keep reprinting them. But at the same time,
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: I don't ever see myself printing them at all anyways.
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: But that's just me.
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: What it is.
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: Especially with the sheer amount of people that will be
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: using the marketplace, yep, everybody is going to be the
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: fact that as long as you have the regular version
- 1:20:49Speaker 4: you're allowed to have. You used a promo, even if
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: you don't own it digitally, doesn't it's not going to
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: make them overly valuable.
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: In that sense.
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: You can always just print your foil copy and then
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: just sell the nonfoil copies rights and you still got
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: your promo. You don't need another one because you want
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: to make a business out of it. But then it
- 1:21:11Speaker 4: turned predatory, like Col Robbie just said, Yeah.
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: I so, I don't know if this is a thing
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: that's going to stick around forever. It might technically be
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: not intended on the deck builder, But if you have
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: an alt art of a character, and you have one,
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: but you own three total copies of the card, in general,
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: you can add three copies of the alt art to
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: your deck. Right now, that doesn't really mean anything on BGA,
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: but you can so.
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: On once you get out of the BG eight dungeon,
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: Like this me has more meaning. But right now everybody
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: is just playing on BGA as far as I know. Yeah,
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: and unless you're unless you're unless you're in Europe, then
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: you actually get like events, Yeah, a lot of a
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: lot of events in Europe, all right, Well, here you go.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: Doom Bringer wants to know why doesn't anybody play Sierra. Well,
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: now we have one dexter trying Sierra.
- 1:22:25Speaker 6: Mainly because of doom Bringer, and I saw a bunch
- 1:22:28Speaker 6: of different lists that he had made. It seemed like
- 1:22:30Speaker 6: super fun. So now you're cheating, and uh, what do
- 1:22:34Speaker 6: you mean I'm cheating?
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: You're looking at the list, but you're looking at the
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: list of questions beforehand You're like, what do you mean.
- 1:22:43Speaker 6: No, I made this before this, he made this question?
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: Sure, sure you did, Yeah.
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: Nintendo to My honest answer is when we first started
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: the podcast, we all kind of wanted to take a
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: specific what's it specialty, and of course mine since the
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: beginning has been Muna more specifically Tasia and Ogre rip
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: Ogre not dead but gone from the cast. Uh was
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: doing traced and Axiom mostly. So that is one reason,
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: and the other reason is because Doombringer has been here
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: so long that if anyone has a question about Sierra
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: or wants to know just anything, I'm just like, that's
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: that's Doombringer. So I just tagged Doombringer. And that's literally
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: the reason why I've never played Sierra, because.
- 1:23:44Speaker 6: We have someone else that does it for us, Let's
- 1:23:46Speaker 6: go do it?
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: Was it was that originally our idea.
- 1:23:50Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, we picked our own that we did.
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: You did Lyra well, I didn't like. I told you
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: guys why I chose Lyra. Yeah, and what happened. And
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: then my my other one obviously I picked because I
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: want I want to break it. But that's a whole
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: nother that's a whole nother, whole nother story for another day.
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: Because we had six people, so doing that also allows
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: us to be able to speak to each faction and
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: deck building, and then when everyone was together and being
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: more competitive, it also meant that there was a player for.
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: Each faction, and Lyra got ship.
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: Bro.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: Novenka's been taking tournaments. You gotta you gotta get on it.
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna get on it. I'm going to get on it.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: I'm glad to see that.
- 1:24:40Speaker 6: The Yeah, I haven't seen any Navenka stuff on thirty.
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: Look at a Wall season two, week two. Yeah, crowbar,
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: I'm sorry, that's a fen and crowbar.
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: Uh, you can just look at heroes and then go
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: to Novenka and see current rankings. But yeah, there's been
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: a lot of uh, Novenka placements, even even the Sayonara
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: got or in in Ace and yeah, Gamminite is the
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: is the main Novenka player though, and has gone six
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: and oh with Novenka.
- 1:25:17Speaker 6: So remember that was a month ago though.
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: A member of a f t U.
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: Game Gammonite.
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: Gammonite.
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: Yeah all right, I I I enjoy it, but I
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: really I'm looking right now. One of these days, I'm
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: going to get time right and I want to uh.
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: My goal now because Cole has told me this is
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: something that bothers him. My goal now is to make
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: the most toxic Akasha dec that you've ever do.
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: Yeah you'll you'll be happy to know that I faced
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: an other type of toxic at Kesha deck that is
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: going to happen in trial by Frosts.
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: Oh great, great this so this is now my new
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: goal because literally Cole willed it.
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: I actually started designing a T shirt today.
- 1:26:18Speaker 6: Let me do I for Akisha.
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: It's it's close, it's close.
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: But why you look for that? I'm going to go
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: through the event. So make sure you join a wall
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: every single Monday and Wednesday, Ace break Week Singleton. I
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: don't know when those happened. Tuesday a season three is coming.
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: Huh yeah, so I have full control. I guess big
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: Z has let me loose and I'm either going to
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: make people mad or weirded out or something. It'll be coming.
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: I don't know if it'll be the the Tuesday a
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: week from this upcoming Tuesday, or I'll take another break week.
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: We'll see. Got to figure out prizing and all of that,
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: but there will there will be prizing and Twitch streams
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: will be coming back because of that, and then AQZ
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: is on Thursdays. Local events check our website or check
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: the altered website for events. A lot more popping up
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: all around the United States, and I almost forgot, but
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: should definitely call it out if there is someone listening
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: to this that's in DFW but not in the discord.
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: I will be doing a learn to play on March
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: first at common Ground in Dallas, So if you need
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: to learn a little more or go meet with other
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: people to learn more, I will be doing that. I
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: don't have the time yet, but I will be there and.
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: About to say down for an online learn to play.
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: I could use a little refresher.
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: I mean, I will give you an online learn to
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: play or whatever, but this this is, to your point,
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: part of the initiative to get people into the stories
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: more playing.
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: All weird story. Okay, So I just had a thought
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: and I was thinking about this. Remember Magic used to
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: do those like learn to play, like they had the
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: events and like they gave you a deck or like
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: half a deck or something like that. That would that
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: be something that like if if altered went to see
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: and the problem is, like here's the deal. The biggest
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: problem is is they went with Asthma Day as their distributor.
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: Like it's such a double edged sword because Asthma Day
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: Europe is fantastic, right fly over the pond and Asthma
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: Day North America absolute garbage yep, Like just the trashiest
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: of trash and I no apologies there. So for Equinox
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: to go with Asthma Day because they're European based, like
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: totally makes sense. Large like one of the largest European distributors,
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: and they're good, they do great, but when it comes
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: to North America, Wolf, yeah, Like I remember they still
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: do Keyfarde to this day, and like I remember we
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: were trying to go through our local to get some
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: key Forarde stuff for like the event we wanted to do,
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: and like the ASTHMA Day REP for Asthmade North America
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: was like, oh, key, Fords is still a thing, and
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: it's like, dude, you distribute this shit, but what is
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: the matter with you?
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that is also an issue with Altered, which is great.
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: So that was a That's what I was thinking too,
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: because they're like, Hey, we're gonna give like these create
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: some sort of starter kit for Trial by Frost or whatever,
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: and like, you know, hey, you know we're gonna we
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: got these free things. Like they're really cool. Like if
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: you buy like a case of Altered, like you get
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: the starter kit with it, and it man, it helps you,
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: you know, maybe get an Altered community growing there, and
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: it'd be great. But I don't even think the Asmdate
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: North America Rep would know what existed.
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: Yeah, they I will not be giving out like half
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: of a deck or starter decks or anything. And also disclaimer,
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: I'm not sure if the full kit will arrive in
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: time for the March first event. In the future learning
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: to Place that I'll be hosting, there will be promo
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: boosters and I think, but don't don't quote me on this,
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: I think it will give you an adventure pass level
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: for attending as well, So it is a really good
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: start for someone.
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: I'm just trying to get my hands on some of
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: those sweet sweet prize.
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: Packs, yeah, the promo boosters.
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: Yeah, so it is.
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: It is potentially someone that learns Altered for the first
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: time might get a unique So that would be really cool.
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: But I don't know if it'll come in time for March. First.
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: I had already talked with my lgs and they reached
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: out to set a date, so we'll see. One thing
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: I'll say about that is Equinox themselves are very good
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: at what they provide for demos and learn to plays
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: and prizes because they do to a certain point control
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: their own like marketing stock and things like that, and
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: it is kind of separate from Asthma Day and they've
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: always been very generous.
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: So Star Wars to get with Equinox and be like, hey,
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: what's up.
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: Yeah, Star Wars. I got to keep absolutely nothing from
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: when I did roadshows and Altered. I have one copy
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: of every demo deck. I have so many shirts and
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: all other sorts of stuff. So yeah, they do very
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: very well in that regard trying to support the people
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: in the community.
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: All right, what do we got laft that should be yep.
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: That's the end of that. So again, make sure you
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: hit the follow button over on wherever it is subscribe
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: on the YouTube's Thank you everyone who's been listening over there.
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: It's been awesome to see and know. Kind of an
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: odd episode, but you know what, it was a lot
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: of fun talking to Felix, and thank you for coming on, Felix.
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: We greatly do appreciate it.
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: It's good.
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: It was fun. And then make sure you check out
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: the twitch screen twitch stream. You think I'd be good
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: at this after like a decade or so, right, but
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: still I trip over my own words sometimes. It's a
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: lot of fun and you can leave all those dirty

- 1:34:41Speaker 5: Why don't break God? So they dumping out fucking stop myself,
