Latest / Twin Cities Territory / Bats come through as Twins take 2 of 3 from Orioles
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, we are live after the Twins have just taken
- 0:03Speaker 1: two out of three from the Baltimore Orioles at home,
- 0:07Speaker 1: and guys, fair to say, the Bats are waking up
- 0:11Speaker 1: a little bit.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Eight runs in three games. Momentum is building building. I
- 0:19Speaker 2: looked it up.
- 0:21Speaker 1: The last time the Twins at eighteen runs in a
- 0:24Speaker 1: three game series was July fifth to eighth against the Yankees,
- 0:27Speaker 1: which was right about when we started talking about the
- 0:30Speaker 1: offense of struggles beginning, so that makes sense. But it's
- 0:34Speaker 1: been over a month since the Twins had that many
- 0:36Speaker 1: runs in a three game set, and they were able
- 0:38Speaker 1: to rally on Wednesday to take two out of three
- 0:42Speaker 1: and somehow are still right in the mix. As of
- 0:44Speaker 1: this recording. They are one game out in the Wildcard,
- 0:47Speaker 1: three games out in the Central The White Sox, Guardians, Tigers,
- 0:53Speaker 1: Rangers all still to play today, so that it will
- 0:55Speaker 1: change in one direction or the other. But for now,
- 0:59Speaker 1: it wasn't pretty. It's starting to feel like this is
- 1:02Speaker 1: being held together increasingly by scotch tape and paper clips.
- 1:05Speaker 1: But once again, two out of three for the Twins, Dan,
- 1:09Speaker 1: I guess that's the bottom line it is.
- 1:12Speaker 3: That's really look you're at the point where you need
- 1:15Speaker 3: to win series, and the Twins had not won one
- 1:18Speaker 3: since July, so basically you need to get going. And
- 1:23Speaker 3: then when you say those standings, it's pretty incredible that
- 1:26Speaker 3: all this while as they've been playing as poorly as
- 1:29Speaker 3: they have.
- 1:30Speaker 2: You know, they were three and.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Six on the road trip, then they go split the
- 1:34Speaker 3: first two with the Orioles before today, and in spite
- 1:37Speaker 3: of going four and seven in that spent spend, they've
- 1:40Speaker 3: stayed in the race. So Derek Shelton addressed that the
- 1:44Speaker 3: other day and said, it's actually kind of frustrating because
- 1:47Speaker 3: if we've been playing better, we could have been gaining ground.
- 1:50Speaker 3: But at the same time they have not lost any ground.
- 1:53Speaker 3: They need to get going. That's really all it comes
- 1:55Speaker 3: down to, and step one was achieving a series victory
- 1:58Speaker 3: today fourteen hits.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Josh Bell is red hot.
- 2:03Speaker 3: In August, he said in the post game that it's
- 2:06Speaker 3: only a matter of time for this offense toke going.
- 2:08Speaker 3: There's a chance Byron Buckston comes back as early as
- 2:11Speaker 3: tomorrow at the Field of Dreams. So apparently, yeah, that's
- 2:15Speaker 3: that's the words.
- 2:16Speaker 1: He's gonna walk out of the corn. Can you walk
- 2:18Speaker 1: out of the corn?
- 2:19Speaker 2: Please.
- 2:19Speaker 3: I mean that would be amazing. I mean, hey, they
- 2:22Speaker 3: built it, so maybe he's gonna count.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Who knows, but you're well, sorry, you're sorry that everybody's.
- 2:31Speaker 3: A nice, nice day for Alan Road and two three hits,
- 2:35Speaker 3: two hits each for Red.
- 2:36Speaker 2: And he needed yeah he did.
- 2:39Speaker 3: We can talk about that in a second, because that
- 2:40Speaker 3: was a pretty abysmal game on that. It was so
- 2:44Speaker 3: weird going into today because Tuesday they had so many
- 2:48Speaker 3: chances and I'm sure you guys felt it. It was deflating,
- 2:50Speaker 3: like they had chance after chance after chance and cann't
- 2:54Speaker 3: get it done. And this was the opposite way. And
- 2:56Speaker 3: Roden was at the center of those struggles last night.
- 2:59Speaker 3: And to come back with the three for three today,
- 3:01Speaker 3: including the double, I think put them ahead.
- 3:03Speaker 2: If I if I'm right there in the first.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Inning or the third or fourth thing, whatever anthing, they rallied,
- 3:10Speaker 3: you know. But it needed a moment like this just
- 3:13Speaker 3: to get some good feelings, some good vibes going again.
- 3:18Speaker 1: The thirty five hits, I believe over the three games.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Royce Lewis had his hitting streak end right before this
- 3:25Speaker 1: game and then apparently was very pissed about that because
- 3:27Speaker 1: he had two hits.
- 3:27Speaker 2: In every game.
- 3:28Speaker 1: But Tyler, it's it's been a while since it since
- 3:32Speaker 1: the Bats scene to be flowing like that, and the
- 3:34Speaker 1: Twins will obviously hope that it doesn't stop with this weekend.
- 3:37Speaker 2: For this weekend, Yeah, I honestly kind of equate it
- 3:40Speaker 2: to my brand of golf that I like to play.
- 3:44Speaker 2: There's no right directions. The ball just has to go
- 3:48Speaker 2: in the hole at some point, and that's what they're doing.
- 3:51Speaker 2: They're winning these games, doesn't matter how you do it.
- 3:54Speaker 2: You know, we lost all the close ones. We put
- 3:56Speaker 2: up a bunch of runs like it at this point,
- 3:59Speaker 2: sloppy went don't matter. It's wins, our wins, our wins
- 4:02Speaker 2: until that last game comes. And like we said, we're
- 4:06Speaker 2: not losing this ground, you know, to where this it's
- 4:09Speaker 2: this unattainable goal. It's staying relevant, stand in the mix,
- 4:13Speaker 2: allowing our guys to get hot. You know, that's we
- 4:16Speaker 2: kind of hopefully we rode out that storm, so to speak,
- 4:20Speaker 2: of the real lull in our rotation. You know, we
- 4:22Speaker 2: face some big arms things like that like that. It's
- 4:24Speaker 2: just gonna happen. There's gonna be bad streaks and if
- 4:27Speaker 2: everybody wants to get hot at the same time, go
- 4:29Speaker 2: for it because that takes all the stress off the
- 4:32Speaker 2: pitching staff. Who needs a breathere right now. Obviously with
- 4:35Speaker 2: Joe being out for who knows how long. You know,
- 4:37Speaker 2: Bailey looked a little shaky yesterday, He's given up some runs.
- 4:41Speaker 2: It's there's lulls in the season. That happened for everyone.
- 4:44Speaker 2: And if the lineup wants to get hot right now
- 4:46Speaker 2: and carry the team, go for it because that gives
- 4:49Speaker 2: all these pitchers a moment of just a second, like
- 4:52Speaker 2: whether it get right, get settled in, whatever it may be.
- 4:55Speaker 2: You know, maybe you know, guys, Morris came into early
- 4:57Speaker 2: for the first time in a while. You know, things
- 4:59Speaker 2: like that can happened because we're putting up these runs,
- 5:02Speaker 2: and that's huge. When you know a team can put
- 5:04Speaker 2: up a big, big crooked number in an inning, it
- 5:07Speaker 2: takes so much stress off of everyone and it really
- 5:09Speaker 2: goes a long way.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Yeah, we talked about Alan Road and Dan. He had
- 5:14Speaker 1: been three for his last twenty one it hits before today.
- 5:20Speaker 1: He obviously had a couple of big hits earlier in
- 5:23Speaker 1: the season for the Twins, and then today three for three.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Pretty much everybody was hitting today except Luke Kishel, who
- 5:32Speaker 1: has been hitting recently as well. But as Walker Jenkins
- 5:37Speaker 1: continues to sit there in triple A, there's obviously been
- 5:40Speaker 1: some rising murmurs about that with Alan Roaden starting in
- 5:43Speaker 1: right field, but a very welcome three for three day
- 5:47Speaker 1: for him, for sure.
- 5:49Speaker 3: As we're online and this is an online crowd falling us,
- 5:53Speaker 3: I'm going to disappoint that crowd. Just because they're talking
- 5:56Speaker 3: about it doesn't mean it's happening. Walker Jenkins right now,
- 6:00Speaker 3: I was not coming like this is not gonna happen
- 6:02Speaker 3: anytime soon, Alan Roaden. This is the first chance that
- 6:04Speaker 3: they've really been able to give him. They waited a
- 6:07Speaker 3: long time. They wanted to give it to him. At
- 6:09Speaker 3: the start of the year, they had James Outman.
- 6:10Speaker 2: You know that.
- 6:12Speaker 3: You look at that and I think that was.
- 6:14Speaker 2: A mistake just to Outman.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I get it, You're gonna give him a chance, but
- 6:18Speaker 3: it wasn't happening. The unfortunate part for Roden was he
- 6:22Speaker 3: got hurt early on and maybe would have come up
- 6:24Speaker 3: and replaced Outman when it was clear that it wasn't
- 6:27Speaker 3: working for OUTMANU, But he got hurt and missed a
- 6:30Speaker 3: lot of time and didn't get up here. They're gonna
- 6:32Speaker 3: give Rodin opportunities they think he can hit. His strikeout
- 6:35Speaker 3: to walk is not bad in any of this. It's
- 6:37Speaker 3: it's pretty close to even right now. So he's going
- 6:41Speaker 3: to keep getting those shots because Walker Jenkins, if he
- 6:43Speaker 3: comes up, is going to play every day, and there's
- 6:45Speaker 3: not an everyday spot available in that lineup right now,
- 6:49Speaker 3: especially if Iron Buckston really is coming back.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I get why people.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Want Walker Jenkins to come up, but you know, look,
- 6:57Speaker 3: ops and Triple A is seven to sixty six in
- 7:00Speaker 3: the International area. Yeah, in the International League, Walker Jenkins
- 7:03Speaker 3: is eight sixty I believe. And that's even like in August.
- 7:08Speaker 3: He's It's not like Walker Jenkins is hitting a thousand
- 7:11Speaker 3: ops right now, and the people are just kind of
- 7:15Speaker 3: wishing for it. Because the Twins offense has been in
- 7:18Speaker 3: a struggle the way it has been, that's understandable. They've
- 7:20Speaker 3: been in the struggle in large part, I think because
- 7:23Speaker 3: Byron Buckson's been out. I mean, it's hard not to
- 7:25Speaker 3: notice when your top guy, your three time All Star,
- 7:28Speaker 3: who is twenty five home runs and really is a
- 7:31Speaker 3: spark plug, hasn't been there to be the threat, which
- 7:34Speaker 3: he really truly is, because look, Royce loss has been
- 7:36Speaker 3: good in this stretch. Royce loss has now been good
- 7:40Speaker 3: for two months. Josh Bells is red hot in August. Finally,
- 7:44Speaker 3: guys are starting to heat up. I think this will
- 7:46Speaker 3: get going. It's understandable why fans would want to see
- 7:51Speaker 3: improvements and everybody being brought up, But I just don't
- 7:55Speaker 3: think the twins are gonna try and nurse two rookies
- 7:58Speaker 3: at the same time. That is a huge deal to
- 8:00Speaker 3: have two guys trying to establish themselves at the same time.
- 8:03Speaker 3: And we're seeing the growing pains with Kayalen Culpepper right now.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Kalen Culepeper has really good moments, but also he is
- 8:10Speaker 3: adjusting to life in the major leagues and what it
- 8:12Speaker 3: is like to really see consistent offspeed and you know,
- 8:16Speaker 3: nasty sliders and curve balls and just every array of
- 8:19Speaker 3: pitch is not just thrown but thrown consistently for strikes,
- 8:23Speaker 3: like you know at Triple A. He has not seeing
- 8:25Speaker 3: those planted for strikes because if those pitchers were good enough,
- 8:29Speaker 3: they wouldn't be in Triple A. They're already the Majors
- 8:31Speaker 3: or they're still in Double A. So he is it's
- 8:34Speaker 3: a huge leap from Triple A, and I just don't
- 8:36Speaker 3: see them going and getting Walker Jenkins. I've heard it
- 8:39Speaker 3: from someone that I trust that it's not happening anytime soon.
- 8:43Speaker 3: It's just it's going to be a lot to ask
- 8:45Speaker 3: two rookies in the middle of a pennant race to
- 8:47Speaker 3: try and for the rest of the lineup to absorb
- 8:50Speaker 3: that and Kalen Culpepper they were willing to take that
- 8:53Speaker 3: chance because Kreiler has been struggling. Another zero for four
- 8:56Speaker 3: for him today. It's understandable why you take that leap
- 8:59Speaker 3: at short stop because that's a position they've struggled out
- 9:02Speaker 3: most of the year. But with Byron Buckson coming back,
- 9:05Speaker 3: you have Larnick who's just too good to sit and
- 9:08Speaker 3: I know he's had a little bit of a lull
- 9:09Speaker 3: too lately, but you have other parts that fit in.
- 9:13Speaker 3: I mean, you've got to figure out a way to
- 9:14Speaker 3: keep Luke Keishell in the lineup. Right now, he is
- 9:16Speaker 3: just getting on base a ton and I don't know
- 9:18Speaker 3: how you can say, yeah, we should bring up Walker
- 9:21Speaker 3: Jenkins and sit Luke Keishall or Larnick or like it
- 9:24Speaker 3: just it's not a great fit. For the puzzle. Had
- 9:27Speaker 3: they traded Larnick, would it made more sense, Sure, but
- 9:30Speaker 3: they didn't. Trevor Larnck is here and and he's got
- 9:33Speaker 3: a really good season going. So Roden needed this. He like,
- 9:38Speaker 3: last night was tough. What how many times he bat
- 9:41Speaker 3: with the bases loaded on Tuesday?
- 9:43Speaker 2: Was it twice? At least twice?
- 9:45Speaker 4: Yeah, and he got one run in with the fielders' choice,
- 9:49Speaker 4: but he went over for and to come back and
- 9:52Speaker 4: have a three hit day was a big deal for
- 9:54Speaker 4: the Twins.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Someone you trust, said, Jenkins, is he cat? Is your cats, Dan?
- 10:02Speaker 3: But yeah, Salem is wise. She's actually sleeping at the
- 10:05Speaker 3: bottom at the base of my little desk.
- 10:07Speaker 1: On breaking news from Dance Cats. More on the Twins

- 10:32Speaker 5: you about why we love Quint's electrolytes, including watermelon salt,
- 10:36Speaker 5: raspberry salt, and I'm holding a citrus salt.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Just opened it.
- 10:39Speaker 5: And a poor some powder into my water, shake it
- 10:42Speaker 5: up and AJ, why do you love it?
- 10:43Speaker 6: I love Quints because after a long night out, a
- 10:46Speaker 6: long day at the gym, a long walk in this
- 10:47Speaker 6: Florida humidity, it tastes great and it gives me all
- 10:50Speaker 6: the electrolytes I need. Why sugar free, Stevia free, keto
- 10:55Speaker 6: approve and taste sweet because of that delicious fermented rice.
- 11:01Speaker 5: It does taste really good. I'm drinking it right now
- 11:04Speaker 5: while we talking about it. It's also made in the USA,

- 11:32Speaker 1: We're back chuckling because Dan doesn't want me to put
- 11:37Speaker 1: the camera on him solo for a little while. He's
- 11:39Speaker 1: got some shenanigans going on there in the background. That's
- 11:42Speaker 1: all right, we've all been.
- 11:44Speaker 2: There, Tyler.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I thought like, it's also just been nice to see.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I feel like it's been so long since the Twins
- 11:52Speaker 1: have gotten the hit. You know, there's a couple guys
- 11:55Speaker 1: on base, it changes the complexion of thenow it kept happening.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's one. It's just like we kind of
- 12:03Speaker 2: joked about the momentum, I think in texts, you know,
- 12:06Speaker 2: in between games, whatever it was. But it's it's a
- 12:08Speaker 2: real thing, and you know, it's August. A lot of
- 12:11Speaker 2: these guys this is their first you know, or their
- 12:14Speaker 2: actual full big league season from you know, start to finish.
- 12:18Speaker 2: A lot of at bats have gotten under some guy's belts,
- 12:20Speaker 2: playing a lot of positions like that. Lull's anticipated, you know,
- 12:24Speaker 2: it's it's just the law of averages. Things are going
- 12:26Speaker 2: to work out at some point to be kind of
- 12:29Speaker 2: what we thought they were. You know, some guys were
- 12:31Speaker 2: on fire, some guys were really cold. You know Bell,
- 12:35Speaker 2: we talked about him earlier in the year when he
- 12:37Speaker 2: was on that hot streak, like he's a big league hitter,
- 12:39Speaker 2: he's got ten years of service, Like he's seen a
- 12:41Speaker 2: lot of at bats. He knows how to hit. It's
- 12:44Speaker 2: just when it goes right, it goes right, and sometimes
- 12:46Speaker 2: you hit it at people. Things like that. Today's a
- 12:48Speaker 2: perfect example. We hit a lot of like those just
- 12:50Speaker 2: low liners, you know, road and hit a ball off
- 12:52Speaker 2: the wall, you know, but otherwise it felt like it
- 12:55Speaker 2: was just solid contact where they weren't and we've had
- 12:59Speaker 2: a lot of balls that were at guys. You know,
- 13:01Speaker 2: there's the Royal Series comes to mind. They turned five
- 13:04Speaker 2: double plays. You know, it's just we run into some
- 13:06Speaker 2: good defense at times, you know, some some really good
- 13:09Speaker 2: starting pitching at times, and that's baseball. You know, the
- 13:13Speaker 2: moves made have stabilized the pitching staff, which you know,
- 13:17Speaker 2: the back end of this game today was perfect example.
- 13:19Speaker 2: You know, Gomez made it fun for himself out there.
- 13:22Speaker 2: You know, maybe just was getting a little bored so
- 13:24Speaker 2: he wanted a little excitement. But you know that that's baseball,
- 13:27Speaker 2: and that's why it's such a crazy game. You know,
- 13:30Speaker 2: we were talking about just stuff you see every day
- 13:32Speaker 2: at the field. You know that the Toronto play that
- 13:35Speaker 2: you know, blew up their game and they give up
- 13:36Speaker 2: a run. You know, just stuff happens the fourth You
- 13:39Speaker 2: can't do anything about it. Yeah, the fourth out, you
- 13:42Speaker 2: may get three outs, he said, now give up a
- 13:44Speaker 2: run when everyone was out. You know, it's just the
- 13:46Speaker 2: craziest thing ever. But all that said, the point being,
- 13:50Speaker 2: you know, these guys never stopped doing whatever they were doing.
- 13:54Speaker 2: You know, guys are probably having conversations.
- 13:56Speaker 3: You know.
- 13:56Speaker 2: The guy that comes to mind is like keishel You know,
- 13:58Speaker 2: he's going to be a wire to wire big year
- 14:00Speaker 2: this year. He's played twelve positions. He's he's exhausted, you know,
- 14:04Speaker 2: and it's like you're expecting that guy to maybe have
- 14:07Speaker 2: a bad week or two here and there. You know,
- 14:08Speaker 2: that's just the way it's going to be. It's same
- 14:10Speaker 2: with a bullpen arm who's been working a lot, you know,
- 14:13Speaker 2: things like that, and that's the ebbs and flows. And
- 14:15Speaker 2: I mean Dan probably could back it up a lot
- 14:17Speaker 2: of stats better than I could. But that's just part
- 14:20Speaker 2: of the game. And it's it's why I think that staff.
- 14:23Speaker 2: You know, I've talked about Shelty all year. You know LaTroy,
- 14:26Speaker 2: you know, he comes to mind. He did his interview
- 14:28Speaker 2: to day during the game. You know, there's some guys
- 14:30Speaker 2: in that locker room have been around baseball a long
- 14:33Speaker 2: time in the major league level and that matters, and
- 14:36Speaker 2: you know they're in a great spot and the pieces
- 14:38Speaker 2: they added are great. You know, I retweeted something about
- 14:41Speaker 2: Hoffman when he came over, a quote he had about,
- 14:43Speaker 2: you know, how he handled his adversity in Toronto last year.
- 14:46Speaker 2: That's all stuff that's going to matter. It's gonna come
- 14:49Speaker 2: up big in this stretch and it's good to see
- 14:51Speaker 2: him come out today and make a statement. It gets
- 14:53Speaker 2: a good picture too. Bas you know, he went eight
- 14:56Speaker 2: shutout I think last time, or eight one run and lost,
- 14:58Speaker 2: you know, a complete game, but you know to tag
- 15:01Speaker 2: him and then get after that bullpen. That was you know,
- 15:02Speaker 2: they executed their game plan.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Tuesday's game was dismal, but but Monday and Wednesday just
- 15:10Speaker 1: felt felt like the games when things were going better
- 15:15Speaker 1: before this offensive slump. Just a different everybody hitting, different
- 15:18Speaker 1: star different nights. Shout out Austin Martin for a four
- 15:22Speaker 1: hit game, a triple shy of the cycle that Josh
- 15:27Speaker 1: Bell had the three run homer on Monday two, that
- 15:29Speaker 1: that took it from four to one to seven to one,
- 15:31Speaker 1: and it was just like I felt like the first
- 15:33Speaker 1: time I breathed watching a game in the last month,
- 15:36Speaker 1: like they finally.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Were winning by a lot. Yeah, like.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was just a nice return to how
- 15:43Speaker 1: it how it had had been before.
- 15:46Speaker 3: I mean when you look at that road trip and
- 15:49Speaker 3: like six one run games on that road trip and
- 15:52Speaker 3: five of them went the wrong way, that's just so
- 15:55Speaker 3: much that was going on. Yeah, you know, they were
- 15:57Speaker 3: in every game and they were coming up short, and
- 16:00Speaker 3: you know, they did it in a variety of ways
- 16:02Speaker 3: where couldn't come through, like on Sunday in Milwaukee where
- 16:06Speaker 3: you had, you know, all those chances, but then a
- 16:08Speaker 3: couple of times where it was the last play of
- 16:10Speaker 3: the game, the two in Seattle, and I know they
- 16:12Speaker 3: ended up being the last play of the game in
- 16:13Speaker 3: Milwaukee also, but that felt like a different kind of
- 16:15Speaker 3: loss because in Seattle you were back like Seattle.
- 16:19Speaker 2: It just those were so close.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Milwaukee, like putting up you know, three runs against Misrowski
- 16:26Speaker 3: and coming up short to come back the way they
- 16:29Speaker 3: did Monday was was very good.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Dean Kramer.
- 16:32Speaker 3: That's two stars team's twelve innings, two runs.
- 16:36Speaker 2: For the guy.
- 16:36Speaker 3: That was Yeah, he was outstanding. And I can't even
- 16:40Speaker 3: imagine what the emotions are like facing your old team
- 16:44Speaker 3: but you saw it. There was some interaction with him.
- 16:47Speaker 3: I can't remember what. Teammate of his flew out to
- 16:49Speaker 3: the track and passed by him on the way back
- 16:52Speaker 3: to the dugout, and they had words for each other
- 16:54Speaker 3: and you could tell they were enjoying it. But I mean,
- 16:57Speaker 3: you know, you have those interactions with guys that Kramer
- 17:00Speaker 3: pitch their last five plus seasons, and so for him
- 17:03Speaker 3: to come back, it's not like it was like a
- 17:05Speaker 3: short stop over that's where he established himself as a
- 17:08Speaker 3: major leaguer.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Those guys are his dudes.
- 17:10Speaker 3: They've been around each other for so long, and for
- 17:12Speaker 3: him to show like that was really outstanding. Like you
- 17:17Speaker 3: can tell the twins liked what they had with the
- 17:19Speaker 3: pitch mix. Let's you know, who knows if it's this
- 17:22Speaker 3: good two earned runs over twelve innings.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Yeah, but clearly you know they.
- 17:33Speaker 3: True now it's clearly like, look, the six fifty e
- 17:37Speaker 3: ra and seven starts was pretty deceptive. It was his
- 17:40Speaker 3: last couple really messed it up. This is the guy
- 17:42Speaker 3: that had a four to two six career era. If
- 17:44Speaker 3: you can find some happy medium between, you know, between
- 17:49Speaker 3: what he's been so far in a four to two
- 17:50Speaker 3: six ra You're gonna be very pleased with what you got.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Plus you got him for next year too. So look,
- 17:55Speaker 3: they they wanted to solve that. I don't know that
- 17:58Speaker 3: they anticipated Joe Ryan going on the aisle within moments
- 18:02Speaker 3: of them acquiring Dean Kramer, but you know, obviously they
- 18:06Speaker 3: wanted to make sure that that kind of situation didn't
- 18:09Speaker 3: crush them if it did happen, and so far it's
- 18:11Speaker 3: worked out pretty pretty well. And again, just they needed
- 18:15Speaker 3: this kind of series because it's been a lot of hardships.
- 18:19Speaker 3: I mean, even their last serious victory against Kansas City
- 18:22Speaker 3: was trying. It was awful, Like they hit the walk
- 18:25Speaker 3: off Grand Slam, which was amazing, and the Royce Lewis
- 18:28Speaker 3: walk off on Tuesday, but that was so hard fought.
- 18:31Speaker 3: That did not feel easy. It has been a while
- 18:34Speaker 3: since it's felt easy for them. They need to get
- 18:36Speaker 3: back there. It's not gonna be you know, it's it's
- 18:39Speaker 3: pretty tough with Philadelphia coming and the Braves coming, but
- 18:44Speaker 3: just to get this feeling again was critical.
- 18:47Speaker 1: When when Dylan Beaver's hit that three reun homer today
- 18:52Speaker 1: to put the Orioles up for one, I thought we
- 18:54Speaker 1: were heading for a very different sort of tone which
- 18:59Speaker 1: we probably would run so hot and cold. But in
- 19:01Speaker 1: the last twenty four hours I have I believe I've
- 19:03Speaker 1: turned in my four point three percenters card to you
- 19:05Speaker 1: guys and then also ask for it back today. So
- 19:10Speaker 1: but that like credit to the twins for fighting back.
- 19:13Speaker 1: They still have this problem of getting themselves in a
- 19:15Speaker 1: hole early Tyler that they can't they can't get out of.
- 19:18Speaker 1: But Zebby Matthews settled down and the bats just kept
- 19:21Speaker 1: coming and it was Alan Roadin. I kind of forgot
- 19:24Speaker 1: that he was the one who had the hit that
- 19:26Speaker 1: that gave them the lead there in the bottom of
- 19:28Speaker 1: the third, But an immediate response in the bottom half
- 19:31Speaker 1: of that inning, like if that happening doesn't go that way,
- 19:35Speaker 1: who knows. But at the right time they came through Tyler.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's one that it's pitchers, especially the shutdown
- 19:43Speaker 2: inning is such a common thing that's thrown around in
- 19:47Speaker 2: that dugout, especially within the pitching group, because it's such
- 19:51Speaker 2: a huge kind of you know, grab a hold of
- 19:55Speaker 2: of who you got in your hand and don't let
- 19:57Speaker 2: them move. You know, you've got your guy penned. You
- 19:59Speaker 2: put up the respot whatever it is. You know, in
- 20:02Speaker 2: our case, it was we come back and tie the
- 20:04Speaker 2: game or take the lead, I think, and you need
- 20:06Speaker 2: to go out there and put up a zero. You know,
- 20:08Speaker 2: get your guys right back in the dugout as quick
- 20:10Speaker 2: as you can, keep the momentum building. And that's part
- 20:13Speaker 2: of the art of pitching. It's sometimes you just need
- 20:17Speaker 2: to go attack guys, not because you're trying to make
- 20:19Speaker 2: them hit the ball or do anything else. It's to
- 20:21Speaker 2: get back in the dugout because then you go out there,
- 20:24Speaker 2: you have another long inning. You got to mount visit
- 20:26Speaker 2: things like that. That steam work starts to run out
- 20:29Speaker 2: and it's one of those that it just builds and
- 20:31Speaker 2: it's infectious. You know, today is a perfect example. You know,
- 20:35Speaker 2: the right guys kept getting their hits, getting their singles,
- 20:37Speaker 2: and you know, the one inning, I think we had
- 20:39Speaker 2: five or six singles, we almost battered around or did
- 20:42Speaker 2: bat around. I think it was a third. And you
- 20:44Speaker 2: know that's one that just unrelenting pressure matters. And you know,
- 20:48Speaker 2: when you can get your guys right back up there,
- 20:50Speaker 2: get them swinging the bat again, it pays dividends. And
- 20:53Speaker 2: you know, you saw it, guys. I mean, we put
- 20:55Speaker 2: up fourteen hits or fifteen you know that that's a
- 20:58Speaker 2: game like did you need all those No? Did you
- 21:01Speaker 2: need all those runs?
- 21:02Speaker 3: No?
- 21:02Speaker 2: But it's great to, like you said earlier, be able
- 21:05Speaker 2: to sit back and just take a breath and be like, man,
- 21:07Speaker 2: we're just having fun playing baseball to day. We're not
- 21:09Speaker 2: worried about the score right now. We're not worried about
- 21:11Speaker 2: defense or anything. It's just just finished these nine innings
- 21:13Speaker 2: and we get to go to dinner and and that's
- 21:16Speaker 2: the way. I mean, it's the best feeling ever. You've
- 21:18Speaker 2: got a Sunday day game. I don't know what the traveler, sorry,
- 21:21Speaker 2: not Sunday, whatever, Wednesday. You know, I don't know what
- 21:24Speaker 2: travel looks like tonight for the Iowa game. I guess
- 21:27Speaker 2: it's pretty close.
- 21:27Speaker 3: It looks like it. No, it's tomorrow. Everybody travel tomorrow.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah, so it's a we're like, not.
- 21:33Speaker 3: A hotel town. This is not they do not have.
- 21:37Speaker 3: There's no Ritz in the Diresville, Iowa.
- 21:41Speaker 1: So we will Yeah, we'll talk more about the Field
- 21:46Speaker 1: of Dreams game and what lies ahead for the Twins.
- 21:48Speaker 7: Right after this, let's talk about LETICX, shall we They
- 21:54Speaker 7: have apparel for every season. We're wearing it as we
- 21:58Speaker 7: talk about it. It's soft, it's comfortable. I wear it
- 22:00Speaker 7: on the show sometimes on FT. What else do you
- 22:02Speaker 7: love about itcrats?
- 22:04Speaker 8: Well, I have it on right now and I'm all
- 22:06Speaker 8: about quality. But you know what, you know how good
- 22:09Speaker 8: your clothes are when you're a parent and your kids
- 22:13Speaker 8: keep stealing all of it. My daughter stole the sweatshirt,
- 22:16Speaker 8: my son sold one of my t shirts. So it's
- 22:19Speaker 8: got to be nice looking.
- 22:20Speaker 7: And if it gets a little bit chillier then it's
- 22:23Speaker 7: layering season and they've got layers for the fall. Shop
- 22:27Speaker 7: now at fabletics dot com slash foul to get seventy

- 22:48Speaker 7: percent off everything as a new VIP.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Yes, the Twins are going to Iowa. There was a
- 22:55Speaker 1: there was a wonderful promotional video that I saw the
- 23:00Speaker 1: Twins tweeted out of Josh Bell just walking down some
- 23:04Speaker 1: soft tossing to himself and just hitting balls into someone's
- 23:07Speaker 1: scorn field.
- 23:08Speaker 2: I really wish they wuld have recut that because he
- 23:09Speaker 2: definitely top spunted into that was not that was not
- 23:13Speaker 2: a well struck baseball.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Let him get into one a little bit when they.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Even did that, like that appears to be warm weather.
- 23:22Speaker 2: So yeah, mick Abel was in there. You know, they
- 23:24Speaker 2: had the all the they had the guys in there.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Yeah, or if that was green screen. I don't know
- 23:30Speaker 3: if that was green screen. But I would like to
- 23:33Speaker 3: think that they made them go somewhere to Iowa or
- 23:36Speaker 3: somewhere in like south the southern part of Minnesota to
- 23:39Speaker 3: find some cornfields and and you don't have to go
- 23:42Speaker 3: too far, you don't. So, but yes, they're going to Iowa.
- 23:48Speaker 3: They will fly on Thursday morning.
- 23:50Speaker 1: By the way, can I put you on the screen now?
- 23:52Speaker 2: Dan?
- 23:52Speaker 1: Am I clear to Okay?
- 23:54Speaker 2: Yeah? Dan has his pants back on.
- 23:58Speaker 3: It wasn't that I didn't have pants on, you know,
- 24:01Speaker 3: It was that I was sewing them. Was no anyways,
- 24:05Speaker 3: So basically, the Twins are headed to Iowa Thursday morning.
- 24:11Speaker 3: The forecast does not look awesome right now for Thursday
- 24:15Speaker 3: night's game. There's a rain delay game, or there's a
- 24:19Speaker 3: day off on Friday, which I guess we could make
- 24:21Speaker 3: up the game Friday, but you know, it's the middle
- 24:25Speaker 3: of August and it's Iowa, so I think anything's on
- 24:27Speaker 3: the table, as we've seen from some of the weather
- 24:29Speaker 3: this week. But both teams will fly in Thursday morning.
- 24:33Speaker 3: It's a one off. You know, this is a special game.
- 24:37Speaker 3: There's not it's not near any big cities. It's it's
- 24:41Speaker 3: a little bit challenging for everyone to pull off. And
- 24:45Speaker 3: that's why I think they've kind of done it. This
- 24:47Speaker 3: is the first one I think since twenty twenty two.
- 24:49Speaker 3: It might be may have been a four year break,
- 24:52Speaker 3: but it's on Netflix. It's a really cool event, like
- 24:55Speaker 3: it should be a lot of fun. Tickets are ridiculous.
- 24:59Speaker 3: Friends bought some. They're like, yeah, yeah, I had some
- 25:02Speaker 3: friends spend about twenty nine dollars each for their tickets.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Yep.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Which that's one of the.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Worst is if it does rain, like you said, it
- 25:14Speaker 2: may rain, you ain't going anywhere because we're gonna play
- 25:17Speaker 2: this game tonight. So it's gonna be it's gonna be
- 25:19Speaker 2: a long well, I mean whatever.
- 25:23Speaker 3: That's why that Thursday is that's why the Friday is
- 25:25Speaker 3: there though in case they have to push it. But
- 25:27Speaker 3: but the thing is is with the lack of hotels,
- 25:30Speaker 3: lack of major league hotels, and look, I understand normal
- 25:35Speaker 3: fans would fans would definitely wonder like major League the
- 25:42Speaker 3: teams have to stay at like a certain quality of hotel, like.
- 25:46Speaker 2: It's four stars and above.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Yeah, it's something like there's a requirement. Those hotels don't
- 25:52Speaker 3: exist anywhere near this. So I don't know what they're
- 25:56Speaker 3: gonna do if they if they rain it out, because
- 25:58Speaker 3: like my night in this Super eight, you have player
- 26:01Speaker 3: like write that story somewhere down the road. It's getting
- 26:04Speaker 3: back to the it's getting back to the minor league days,
- 26:07Speaker 3: the union and complaint.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you can't just stay at the farmhouse.
- 26:13Speaker 8: Come on.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Probably not, Probably all of these one officer are definitely
- 26:21Speaker 3: logistically a little bit challenging. London Series when they play
- 26:24Speaker 3: there williams Port they do that every year. You know,
- 26:29Speaker 3: there's so many of these in Mexico City. They've rolled
- 26:32Speaker 3: out that a couple of times. Like, there's always challenges
- 26:35Speaker 3: because whether it's the stadium not being necessarily a major
- 26:38Speaker 3: league stadium and wondering about the quality of the field.
- 26:42Speaker 3: I don't think that's the case here at all, but
- 26:44Speaker 3: I mean, like there's always logistical challenges that come into play.
- 26:47Speaker 3: In twenty eighteen, Zach can probably recall this when I
- 26:51Speaker 3: just started with the Athletic and he was my direct editor.
- 26:54Speaker 3: We went to Puerto Rico. Uh and Duff was on
- 26:57Speaker 3: this trip, right were you? So I luckily, luckily I
- 27:02Speaker 3: missed it. I was down for like that week, thank god,
- 27:05Speaker 3: because that was the trip of hell.
- 27:08Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Yeah, Like the they had a power outage because remember
- 27:13Speaker 3: this isn't after like a two day game, Maria. Yeah,
- 27:16Speaker 3: and and like the whole island is out of power,
- 27:19Speaker 3: and they just used a bunch of generators to play
- 27:23Speaker 3: the game, like it required thirty generators to run the game.
- 27:26Speaker 2: It was so crazy.
- 27:28Speaker 3: The weather was like, you know, through the roof hot,
- 27:31Speaker 3: and you're like going from frigid, like the Twins had
- 27:34Speaker 3: been snowed out against the White Sox at home the
- 27:37Speaker 3: weekend before, and then all of a sudden, we're in
- 27:38Speaker 3: eighty five in humidity. And that's an old stadium and
- 27:42Speaker 3: they played the World Baseball Classic there this year, but
- 27:44Speaker 3: it's an old stadium. The press box is old. It's
- 27:47Speaker 3: you know, you're you're definitely changing the quality of the venue,
- 27:52Speaker 3: like the A's that series in Vegas at this year,
- 27:56Speaker 3: like when you have the one off thirty just a
- 27:58Speaker 3: challenges are real. Yeah, ninety two mile on hour fly balls,
- 28:02Speaker 3: and I wouldn't be shocked if we see some cheapy
- 28:05Speaker 3: home runs in this couple games or in this game
- 28:08Speaker 3: in Iowa, because you know, there's a lot of humidity
- 28:11Speaker 3: and there's no stadium, there's no no.
- 28:15Speaker 2: There's one ball last night that flew. That ball to
- 28:17Speaker 2: right field, kicked somebody almost hit the scoreboard as the
- 28:20Speaker 2: guy was like adjusting it. One of the I think
- 28:22Speaker 2: it was a Riety hit a ball opo almost to
- 28:25Speaker 2: that score pond. So yeah, balls carrying.
- 28:28Speaker 3: When when the White Sox played there, I think it
- 28:31Speaker 3: was twenty twenty one, Tim Anderson hit one as real.
- 28:35Speaker 3: You know, he went to right center as a righty
- 28:38Speaker 3: and just crushed it. So the concept is very cool. Look,
- 28:43Speaker 3: it's the Field of Dreams. Everybody watched that movie growing up.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Anybody that's a baseball fan watch that movie growing up.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Most of those baseball fans loved it. Obviously, you know,
- 28:53Speaker 3: not every movie is one hundred percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 28:56Speaker 3: But it was a beloved movie, right and there's so
- 29:00Speaker 3: many iconic moments from it. So the idea that we're
- 29:03Speaker 3: going to do it is cool.
- 29:05Speaker 2: But it'll be you.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Know, it could be very high scoring, it could be
- 29:09Speaker 3: unlike a lot of games you see played, just because
- 29:12Speaker 3: the conditions are new and challenging the batter's eye, everything
- 29:15Speaker 3: like that. It should be a pretty wild.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Event, especially if they have to sleep in a barn.
- 29:20Speaker 2: I mean, that would that would be that would be awesome.
- 29:22Speaker 2: That's not what's happening.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Next Luxury tents, Luxury tents exactly. It's It's also the
- 29:28Speaker 1: beginning of a very big stretch for the Twins. Nine
- 29:31Speaker 1: tough games ahead Philadelphia, then Atlanta, then at San Diego,
- 29:34Speaker 1: all teams in the playoff mix in the National League,
- 29:38Speaker 1: Philadelphia and San Diego fighting for wildcard spots, Atlanta leading
- 29:42Speaker 1: the East. But Taj Bradley Aaron Nola is supposed to
- 29:44Speaker 1: be six thirty pm on Netflix. We'll see if that
- 29:47Speaker 1: actually holds up, but certainly enjoy it. It is a
- 29:51Speaker 1: visual spectacle and a rare opportunity for the Twins and
- 29:55Speaker 1: their fans to be able to see that, but also
- 29:58Speaker 1: an important game. They got to keep the wins coming
- 30:00Speaker 1: to keep the bats going. So maybe a weird condition
- 30:04Speaker 1: farm game is right up their alley right now. I
- 30:06Speaker 1: don't know, we'll find.
- 30:06Speaker 9: Out, but hey, the one two things I just want
- 30:10Speaker 9: to mention the Trevor Larnick tag up on Royce Lewis
- 30:15Speaker 9: sack fly today and in the first first in and
- 30:19Speaker 9: I think Lewis Holmes hit a home run, hits the wall,
- 30:22Speaker 9: Larnick took second.
- 30:24Speaker 3: That was like a tailtale. The Twins are kind of
- 30:27Speaker 3: dialed back in. And then Cody Clements because we to
- 30:30Speaker 3: collectively have talked about defensive runs saved.
- 30:33Speaker 2: And I would think, oh gosh.
- 30:35Speaker 3: To Cody Clemens. Definitely added to the luster.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Three.
- 30:41Speaker 3: Yeah, Jeff Hoffman got in a little trouble in the
- 30:44Speaker 3: seventh inning and Cody Clemens made a catch on a
- 30:46Speaker 3: ball that had a nine to fifty expected average and
- 30:50Speaker 3: at least saved one, if not two runs there. So
- 30:53Speaker 3: I just wanted to get those thoughts out there before
- 30:55Speaker 3: we wrap up.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Here's the things they haven't been doing well. Roger with
- 31:00Speaker 2: Troy Hawkins tenth all time and appearances for the Minnesota Twins.
- 31:04Speaker 2: That's really sweet. Definitely, Yeah, so I missed that. Take
- 31:07Speaker 2: cross for Troy. Take a seat in the.
- 31:09Speaker 10: Back, Coach, Take a seat in the back, Coach, Hawkins.
- 31:16Speaker 10: When you do things poorly for a while and then
- 31:20Speaker 10: start doing them well again, good things can happen.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Twins, two wins in three games. They'll try to make
- 31:25Speaker 1: it three and four. At the Field of Dreams and Games.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Thanks you everybody for listening. If you like what you hear,
- 31:31Speaker 1: please toss us to like a subscribe however you watch
- 31:34Speaker 1: or listen. If you do so on YouTube, there's a
- 31:36Speaker 1: QR code on the screen right now to make it
- 31:38Speaker 1: super easy. We will catch you next time, probably Friday.
- 31:41Speaker 1: We're definitely gonna wait to make sure that Field of
- 31:43Speaker 1: Dreams game actually gets played before we come back to
- 31:47Speaker 1: you again, but we will see you soon on Twin
- 31:49Speaker 1: Cities Territory. Thanks for listening, Catch you next time.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Bye bye,
