- 0:56Speaker 3: Hello Hello, Friday, Friday afternoon. Here we are again. It
- 1:00Speaker 3: is Ryan Will was going to be here until he wasn't.
- 1:05Speaker 3: There was a bit of an emergency that pops up
- 1:08Speaker 3: here at the Brian Broadcasting Studio. Is not going to
- 1:10Speaker 3: get too into it because personal stuff. Don't want to
- 1:13Speaker 3: put all that out there, but Will very kindly stepped
- 1:16Speaker 3: up to the plate to assist with that, and that
- 1:18Speaker 3: is where he is at right now, so he will
- 1:20Speaker 3: not be joining us. I do have good buddy Corey
- 1:23Speaker 3: Max in the studio with me today, who is also
- 1:25Speaker 3: kindly offered to come in and run the board for
- 1:27Speaker 3: me since I am clueless as to how to run
- 1:29Speaker 3: this one as I normally reside in the Candy studio.
- 1:33Speaker 3: So thank you. I really appreciate you coming in to
- 1:36Speaker 3: assist with this. So yeah, we got the show here
- 1:39Speaker 3: for you today for the next two hours, going to
- 1:41Speaker 3: be talking sports, gonna be talking entertainment. Of course, we're
- 1:44Speaker 3: going to do the police reports still because Will would
- 1:47Speaker 3: never let me live that down if I skipped in,
- 1:49Speaker 3: and it's a fun segment to do, so I would
- 1:51Speaker 3: never let myself live that down. But right now, I
- 1:54Speaker 3: guess let's kind of do a recap because the last
- 1:57Speaker 3: time that I was on here with Will was gosh,
- 2:01Speaker 3: what was three weeks ago? Was before Christmas? I think
- 2:03Speaker 3: it was before the A and M and Miami game,
- 2:06Speaker 3: which we will not be getting into today because nobody
- 2:08Speaker 3: wants to relive that. But I guess to get to
- 2:12Speaker 3: my point, I hope you had a merry Christmas. I
- 2:14Speaker 3: hope you have had a happy New Year, and that's
- 2:16Speaker 3: your twenty twenty six is off to a good start.
- 2:18Speaker 3: My twenty twenty six got off to a great start.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Matter of fact, Daniel, I mean, Corey totally not gonna
- 2:26Speaker 3: do that a couple times. Today. We went to Moody
- 2:29Speaker 3: Gardens New Year's Day, Yes we did. We had a
- 2:32Speaker 3: good old time. It was you and your fiance and
- 2:34Speaker 3: another one of our street teamers here from the Brian
- 2:37Speaker 3: broadcasting crew, Michael. So it was the four of us
- 2:39Speaker 3: that went down there, and it was a whole day's
- 2:41Speaker 3: worth of stuff. I mean we left here at what
- 2:43Speaker 3: about seven seven thirty, yeah, seven thirty in the morning.
- 2:47Speaker 3: We got back here probably close to midnight. Now we
- 2:50Speaker 3: were slowed down a little bit by the Highway six Shenanigans,
- 2:52Speaker 3: but who isn't Yeah, so, but that was a great time, dude.
- 2:56Speaker 3: I had not been to Moody Gardens in well over
- 2:59Speaker 3: a decade. It had been quite some time, and it
- 3:01Speaker 3: was really cool to see what they've all done down there,
- 3:03Speaker 3: because I first, I'll barely remembered anything of what I
- 3:06Speaker 3: did see when I was down there the last time.
- 3:08Speaker 3: But they've got a lot of neat stuff in there.
- 3:10Speaker 3: I mean, the aquarium was really cool. Apparently. My catch
- 3:13Speaker 3: phrase is oh wow, I see at a million times
- 3:15Speaker 3: over and over again, and y'all let me hear about
- 3:17Speaker 3: that the entire day long, every time I saw something cool,
- 3:20Speaker 3: Oh wow, it's well. We actually named our group chat
- 3:23Speaker 3: Yeah oh wow. But no, it was awesome. The weather
- 3:27Speaker 3: would have been nice if it was a little cooler.
- 3:29Speaker 3: It has been quite warm over the last couple of weeks,
- 3:32Speaker 3: which I think today is supposed to be the last
- 3:34Speaker 3: day of that, thankfully. Yes, my biggest mistake was wearing
- 3:38Speaker 3: shorts to the Iceland exhibit.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Yes, it was very cold. I think it was like
- 3:43Speaker 4: three degrees or something. It was below ten yeah, blow. Yeah.
- 3:46Speaker 3: And it was my bad because you had told me
- 3:49Speaker 3: beforehand that that was part of the exhibit, and I
- 3:52Speaker 3: just forgot. Literally, my my plan in the morning is
- 3:55Speaker 3: that I wake up, look at my phone and see
- 3:57Speaker 3: what the temperature is going to be that day, and
- 3:59Speaker 3: then just us based on that, didn't think about the
- 4:02Speaker 3: exhibited all. Now, they did give us parkas, which was nice.
- 4:05Speaker 3: But if you've never gone to like the Iceland exhibit,
- 4:09Speaker 3: Moody guard and you'll have to wait until the holidays
- 4:12Speaker 3: of this coming year, I think, before you have another
- 4:15Speaker 3: chance to do that. And they're not paying me to
- 4:17Speaker 3: save this, by the way, I just think it was
- 4:18Speaker 3: that cool. It's very neat in there, Like they have
- 4:21Speaker 3: a bar that's in there, and before you go in,
- 4:24Speaker 3: they like you can buy chips or something, but it's
- 4:28Speaker 3: literally an ice bar. Like the tables, everything in there
- 4:31Speaker 3: is made completely out of ice. The tables are made
- 4:33Speaker 3: out of ice, the seats are made out of ice,
- 4:35Speaker 3: the bar counter, it's all ice. The only thing that
- 4:38Speaker 3: was not made out of ice was like the drinks
- 4:40Speaker 3: and the people workers, the workers and the drinks that
- 4:43Speaker 3: were in there. And they did give us parkas too,
- 4:46Speaker 3: which made it a lot easier. I mean, it was
- 4:48Speaker 3: my fingers in my nose that was like really suffering
- 4:50Speaker 3: in there. But it's it's a very cool experience and
- 4:53Speaker 3: something that I would absolutely recommend to keep in the
- 4:56Speaker 3: back of your head for the next holiday season when
- 4:59Speaker 3: that comes around later on this year. Yeah, so appreciate
- 5:03Speaker 3: you taking us to that, and I appreciate you buying
- 5:05Speaker 3: those dinner tickets as well.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Yeah, of course.
- 5:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:08Speaker 4: I think it's been like thirty six years since i've
- 5:10Speaker 4: been to Moody Gardens, because that is right. I did
- 5:12Speaker 4: break my Moody Gardens cherry.
- 5:13Speaker 3: It was my.
- 5:14Speaker 4: First time and it was fantastic. Like he said, he
- 5:17Speaker 4: cannot recommend it enough. It was Christmas everywhere fantastic.
- 5:22Speaker 3: That's a Corey maxism. I love those analogies you pull out. Well,
- 5:26Speaker 3: I mean, aside from that, did you have a good Christmas?
- 5:29Speaker 6: Oh?
- 5:29Speaker 4: Yes, I had a fantastic Christmas. So I didn't really
- 5:31Speaker 4: do a whole lot. We don't really do a lot
- 5:33Speaker 4: of family stuff. But it was just nice not getting
- 5:35Speaker 4: work emails, work, text, work calls, nothing. Everything was just
- 5:39Speaker 4: shut down and it was a genuine week or week
- 5:42Speaker 4: and a half break from just everything.
- 5:44Speaker 3: See I will not argue one bit with you on that,
- 5:46Speaker 3: because we got a bit spoiled this year. This is
- 5:51Speaker 3: kind of behind the scenes. Usually we don't get the
- 5:54Speaker 3: day after Christmas or after New Year's off. We usually
- 5:57Speaker 3: have to be back in here at work. But they
- 5:58Speaker 3: were nice to us this year. Christmas was on the
- 6:00Speaker 3: Thursday and they said you get Friday off, and then
- 6:01Speaker 3: they did the same thing for New Year, so we
- 6:03Speaker 3: got two really extended weekends back to back, and it's
- 6:06Speaker 3: kind of been a shock coming back to work this week,
- 6:09Speaker 3: doing the full five days, and I'm like, I don't
- 6:11Speaker 3: know if I'm used to this, Like this feels like
- 6:13Speaker 3: a whole month.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely coming back it's rough, Like you just feel
- 6:16Speaker 4: like I need another week to decompress to get back
- 6:19Speaker 4: into work.
- 6:19Speaker 3: You know, like a vacation from the vacation. But I
- 6:22Speaker 3: think the holidays are a bus saw and it is
- 6:24Speaker 3: a kind of a chance to breathe when it all ends.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Because we went up to Dallas, me and my family
- 6:29Speaker 3: for Christmas because my brother got a job middle of
- 6:33Speaker 3: last year up there. It's been a couple of months now,
- 6:36Speaker 3: and so we go up there to visit him. He's
- 6:37Speaker 3: got an apartment, and so we rented an airbnb in Dallas,
- 6:41Speaker 3: which was really nice. It's a suburban airbnb, like it
- 6:44Speaker 3: was in the middle of the suburbs. But the house
- 6:46Speaker 3: was nice and it had a really nice back patio.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Like it's kind of hard to describe, but there was
- 6:52Speaker 3: like an elevated section and they had like a corn
- 6:55Speaker 3: hole set up and then you could go further down
- 6:57Speaker 3: and they had like a dartboard set up, a lot
- 6:59Speaker 3: of stuff to keep yourself off occupied back there. Yeah,
- 7:01Speaker 3: so that was really cool. The house was really nice.
- 7:05Speaker 3: I got some neat gifts for my brother. He got
- 7:08Speaker 3: me this like Dolly that I can use to take
- 7:11Speaker 3: my groceries upstairs. Which is so funny because when I
- 7:14Speaker 3: was a kid, all I ever wanted was like electronics
- 7:16Speaker 3: and stuff cool stuff like that. But as I get
- 7:18Speaker 3: older and realize the value in these practical, real life
- 7:22Speaker 3: things that you can get, all of a sudden, I'm like, well,
- 7:23Speaker 3: this is kind of the best thing ever.
- 7:24Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like, oh right, I don't have to break
- 7:26Speaker 4: my back. You got some lift and straps too.
- 7:28Speaker 2: This is nice.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Yeah, growing up you learn to appreciate those things like,
- 7:32Speaker 3: all of a sudden, man, maybe I don't need that
- 7:33Speaker 3: Xbox squad. Okay, it still wasn't mind that either, but yeah,
- 7:39Speaker 3: no it was. It was a great holiday. It was
- 7:40Speaker 3: a great Christmas. New Year's is off to a great start.
- 7:43Speaker 3: I can finally get back on my grind of trying
- 7:45Speaker 3: to lose more weight, because the holidays was just trying
- 7:48Speaker 3: to not gain more versus lose because every other minute
- 7:52Speaker 3: you turn around and there's some piece of sugar.
- 7:55Speaker 4: Yeah, especially here, I've seen the snaps and the Instagrams
- 7:58Speaker 4: where you got like a thousand cookies and cakes and pies.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Oh you didn't see it this morning. There was a
- 8:03Speaker 3: whole box of donuts out there this morning, like like
- 8:05Speaker 3: it never ends, but it's it just goes from being
- 8:07Speaker 3: every single data maybe like ever twice a week. Yeah,
- 8:11Speaker 3: So it's a bit more manageable and I can get
- 8:13Speaker 3: back on that, which is nice because I've lost I've
- 8:15Speaker 3: lost probably fifteen twenty pounds since August of last year.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Oh nice. So I've been working on it and that's
- 8:21Speaker 3: that's my New Year's resolution is just going which yeah,
- 8:24Speaker 3: new Year, save me, I guess hopefully same me, not
- 8:27Speaker 3: going back to eating all that sugar. But yeah, I digress.
- 8:30Speaker 3: It was a great holiday and we are ready to
- 8:32Speaker 3: get a new year started. I guess I'll give a
- 8:34Speaker 3: full rundown of the show because I haven't really done
- 8:36Speaker 3: that yet. Obviously we have Kirk and Chip. They will
- 8:39Speaker 3: be talking to each other here in just a couple
- 8:41Speaker 3: of minutes, as they do on Fridays. After that, we'll
- 8:44Speaker 3: talk a little bit of entertainment news. The Rodeo lineup
- 8:46Speaker 3: came out last night. I really want to hit on that.
- 8:49Speaker 3: I've seen a lot of opinions online about that, some good,
- 8:53Speaker 3: some bad. We'll we'll dive more into that a little
- 8:55Speaker 3: later on this hour, but I do want to hit that,
- 8:56Speaker 3: of course college football, because we got the big game
- 8:59Speaker 3: tonight that's going to set up the national championship, So
- 9:03Speaker 3: we'll absolutely touch on that. The Trinidad Chambliss news that
- 9:06Speaker 3: came out earlier, we'll kind of hit on that a
- 9:08Speaker 3: little bit. Bucky McMillan, we'll hear from him inside the
- 9:11Speaker 3: five o'clock hour, probably right at the top of the
- 9:13Speaker 3: five o'clock hour, because A and M has the game
- 9:15Speaker 3: with Oklahoma tomorrow that is going to be believe at
- 9:17Speaker 3: two thirty Rid Arena, so he came back gave a
- 9:20Speaker 3: preview for that, so we will hear that in the
- 9:23Speaker 3: five o'clock hour. The NFL playoffs start this weekend, so
- 9:27Speaker 3: we'll definitely hit on that. I will attempt to make
- 9:31Speaker 3: an entire bracket of my picks and it will probably
- 9:33Speaker 3: be blown up after the first round, just like my
- 9:36Speaker 3: college bracket was. But you know what, that's the fun
- 9:38Speaker 3: in doing these things. What's the fun if you're always right? Yeah, So,
- 9:42Speaker 3: and then of course we will do the police reports
- 9:44Speaker 3: at the end of the show, as we are accustomed
- 9:47Speaker 3: to doing. Will will not be here for that, unfortunately,
- 9:50Speaker 3: but I will do it in the spirit of Will.
- 9:52Speaker 3: We will still have some good ones for you. So
- 9:54Speaker 3: that is the layout of the show today. Of course,
- 9:57Speaker 3: the text line is open as always nine to seventy
- 9:59Speaker 3: nine six nine, three eleven fifty. You or more than
- 10:02Speaker 3: welcome to chime in there. If you hear something you like,
- 10:04Speaker 3: let us know. If you hear something you don't like,
- 10:05Speaker 3: please let us know. Always love getting any kind of feedback,
- 10:09Speaker 3: let me know you're listening. So we got a good
- 10:12Speaker 3: show lined up for you today. Let's get into the
- 10:15Speaker 3: final lap and then we will hear from Chip and
- 10:18Speaker 3: Kirk here on this Friday afternoon.

- 11:23Speaker 9: Welcome to the College Football Report with Kirk Bowls of
- 11:26Speaker 9: the Houston Chronicle and your host Chip Howard. The College
- 11:30Speaker 9: Football Report is brought to you by Brasses, Holmecare and
- 11:34Speaker 9: Tagler's Chevrolet.
- 11:38Speaker 1: We're joined on the Player's Fund Center phone line by
- 11:41Speaker 1: the columnist of the Houston Chronicle and Kirk. I've been
- 11:46Speaker 1: doing some pencil and paper numbers, which is always a challenge,
- 11:51Speaker 1: but right now I have arch Manning, Trey Wingo, Collin Simmons,
- 11:59Speaker 1: and tyanney Hill as the four players returning for the Longhorns.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Next season. Are those four good enough to win the
- 12:07Speaker 1: national championship?
- 12:10Speaker 6: For sure? This is basketball, But we're talking about basketball, right, No,
- 12:15Speaker 6: I think you need a few more than that. And
- 12:18Speaker 6: I think Indiana is exhibit A.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:22Speaker 6: I love the stat I saw this week and said
- 12:25Speaker 6: that India has zero five star players and seven to
- 12:29Speaker 6: fourth star and like fifty five to three star. And
- 12:33Speaker 6: I think fifty even came from James Madison.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:37Speaker 6: You know, if that's not a testament to great coaching,
- 12:41Speaker 6: I don't know what he is exactly. He's that at
- 12:44Speaker 6: the recruiting website. Don't know what the hell they're doing.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Well, probably a little of both.
- 12:49Speaker 6: Yeah, probably a little both, you know. I mean, I
- 12:53Speaker 6: mean that Rose Bowl was just tremendous. And I don't
- 12:56Speaker 6: mean to get off topic here, but I think they'd
- 13:00Speaker 6: get a running back this week. You know, Relie Brown
- 13:02Speaker 6: from the States. He's scratch, scratching one itch, but.
- 13:08Speaker 10: He's got a lot.
- 13:08Speaker 6: He's got a whole rash. You know, he's got to scratch.
- 13:12Speaker 6: He's got to scratch some offensive line and wide receiver
- 13:16Speaker 6: and linebacker would be good. Maybe an age rusher. H
- 13:20Speaker 6: So they get a cornerback from Rutgers but yeah, it
- 13:24Speaker 6: hadn't been a plus in January for mister Sarkis.
- 13:29Speaker 1: So the the players that that did leave that some
- 13:34Speaker 1: of whom you you didn't expect to be on that list.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Reading between the lines, it was seeing it was seemed
- 13:41Speaker 1: that they were told, look, this is what we can pay.
- 13:44Speaker 1: We're not paying you a penny more, and good luck
- 13:48Speaker 1: if you can go find more money.
- 13:50Speaker 6: I think that's exactly it. I think it's all money driven.
- 13:55Speaker 6: I think they they were low balled by their school.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Is it because is it because Kirk?
- 14:01Speaker 1: They thought they could upgrade those.
- 14:03Speaker 6: Positions, No question about it, no question about it. I
- 14:07Speaker 6: mean contribunan Weisner is there leading rusher the last two years,
- 14:12Speaker 6: a thousand yards a year ago and the disappointing year
- 14:15Speaker 6: this year with less than six hundred yards was her
- 14:19Speaker 6: three games. He wanted RB one money. They weren't going
- 14:22Speaker 6: to give him RB one money. And I'd defy anybody
- 14:27Speaker 6: college football observer to tell me, you know, he's a
- 14:31Speaker 6: national RB one, he's an elite running back. He's a
- 14:35Speaker 6: good running back. Yeah, and he's a lot more than serviceable.
- 14:39Speaker 6: And he's tough. His nails is sagg He's no but
- 14:44Speaker 6: you know, if he's trying to get seven fifty to
- 14:47Speaker 6: a million dollars, he's not going to get it from Texas.
- 14:51Speaker 6: And I think Parker Livingstone the same boat, the wide
- 14:54Speaker 6: receiver who had a good year, but by the end
- 14:58Speaker 6: of the season he was the number on receiver and
- 15:01Speaker 6: see had twenty nine catches on the year. And even
- 15:04Speaker 6: though I like his skill set, Texas offered him four hundred,
- 15:08Speaker 6: and they might have gone up in negotiations, but those
- 15:12Speaker 6: talks broke off and he got more money elsewhere. You know,
- 15:17Speaker 6: one source told me eight hundred. Another source said, no,
- 15:21Speaker 6: it was. It wasn't eight hundred. It was may have
- 15:23Speaker 6: been more like six hundred or something. So for a
- 15:26Speaker 6: guy who only had twenty nine catches, you know, I'll
- 15:31Speaker 6: totally understand it. I understand money, okay, And I understand
- 15:35Speaker 6: so many of these are not going to play in
- 15:37Speaker 6: the NFL.
- 15:39Speaker 8: Yes, not going to get an.
- 15:40Speaker 6: NFL paycheck much less.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Too, Kirk, I read, could this be right? There eight
- 15:45Speaker 1: thousand players in the portal and probably a quarter of
- 15:48Speaker 1: them their college football career and major college is over.
- 15:52Speaker 6: Well, you wonder what happens to those I don't know.
- 15:55Speaker 6: If it's eight I quit counting after five thousand, but
- 15:58Speaker 6: it's academic at that point. I mean, but it's like,
- 16:01Speaker 6: are there that many unhappy football players? Are there are?
- 16:07Speaker 6: I'm not saying they're greedy, you know, they got to
- 16:09Speaker 6: look out for themselves. Some of them have you know,
- 16:12Speaker 6: financial situations that they need to get some money. And
- 16:17Speaker 6: I don't fat them or progress them for doing that.
- 16:20Speaker 6: But it's like there's not enough greener pastures for five
- 16:24Speaker 6: thousand or eight thousand players of the transfer portal. So
- 16:27Speaker 6: it's it's a risky business. It's risky for the coaches.
- 16:30Speaker 6: Like I said, you know, I think the number is
- 16:33Speaker 6: now nineteen see the nineteen or twenty Longhorns or in
- 16:37Speaker 6: the portal. Right, And so when Sheefer Kishen brags about
- 16:41Speaker 6: culture in every single press conference, this kind of flies
- 16:47Speaker 6: in the face of that, does it not. I mean
- 16:50Speaker 6: Livingstone was a die hard, died in the wool Longhorn
- 16:54Speaker 6: fan from birth, yeah, and rude with arch Manning and
- 17:00Speaker 6: loved it. It's parents from every game.
- 17:02Speaker 1: So in your in your mind, Kirk, is there more
- 17:05Speaker 1: to this, uh, you know, exodus than money?
- 17:10Speaker 6: I don't think so, except except there's always a good
- 17:14Speaker 6: cop and a bad cop, I think in these negotiations
- 17:18Speaker 6: because every coaching staff wants to pay the individual players
- 17:23Speaker 6: as little as they can so they get more talent. Right,
- 17:26Speaker 6: It's not not hard, and I don't envy their position
- 17:30Speaker 6: to try to build a roster, retain their roster, supplement
- 17:34Speaker 6: their roster with recruiting and transfer portal. And and you
- 17:40Speaker 6: know Indiana is an older team to go back to them,
- 17:43Speaker 6: They've got a lot of upperclassmen, and they're they're great
- 17:47Speaker 6: up front, the two lines, offensive, defense, offensive with what
- 17:51Speaker 6: MVP that rolls a bowl And they got the Heisman
- 17:55Speaker 6: Trophy winner and they got an excellent coach. So it's like,
- 17:59Speaker 6: you know, they truly have a culture. I mean, if
- 18:02Speaker 6: they have zero five star players and seven four star players,
- 18:06Speaker 6: they're probably not having a lot of guys making a
- 18:08Speaker 6: million dollars.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Well, let me ask you this.
- 18:10Speaker 1: If Texas had gotten into playoffs and maybe even won
- 18:13Speaker 1: a game, would we still have seen this these players transfer?
- 18:20Speaker 6: Yeah, I think we would. Okay, I think because the
- 18:23Speaker 6: money would would remain the same. I don't know how
- 18:26Speaker 6: many players will get raises. You referenced Ryan Wingo, the
- 18:32Speaker 6: wide receiver, Collin Simmons or edge of rusher Ty, Anthony Smith,
- 18:38Speaker 6: the linebacker, star of the Citrus Bow, and Archer is
- 18:41Speaker 6: getting so much bis money from corporations. Yeah, you know,
- 18:45Speaker 6: other than those other three, I don't know how many
- 18:49Speaker 6: they deserved big raises. Trevor Gooseby the left tackle, definitely
- 18:53Speaker 6: because they were wanting to keep him away from the NFL.
- 18:56Speaker 6: But honestly, and then, like you mentioned, and I don't
- 19:00Speaker 6: know if it's five or eight thousand the portal. Can
- 19:02Speaker 6: you imagine trying to vet this many players now? And
- 19:07Speaker 6: you can't do it, But you've got to do that
- 19:09Speaker 6: year round. You can't start in December, right, like, Okay,
- 19:12Speaker 6: let's see what's out there. And that that leads to
- 19:15Speaker 6: tampering without question. You know, it's like everybody tampers because
- 19:20Speaker 6: there's no rules against it. Really, you know, there might
- 19:24Speaker 6: be rules against it, there's no enforcement, but.
- 19:26Speaker 1: There's gonna be a lot of people watching these games.
- 19:31Speaker 6: Oh are you saying college football is popular?
- 19:34Speaker 1: I'm thinking it's still pretty popular.
- 19:36Speaker 6: And you know what, I'm not sure you can damage
- 19:39Speaker 6: college football because people are gonna watch same as the NFL.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's proven.
- 19:44Speaker 6: You know, well, they got like nine million plus for
- 19:46Speaker 6: the Centers Bowl.
- 19:48Speaker 3: That's crazy. That was a.
- 19:50Speaker 6: Meaningless bowl to a lot of people, but it sure
- 19:53Speaker 6: meant a lot to Texas and Michigan because I was
- 19:56Speaker 6: there and I ken't waiting for fistfights to break out.
- 19:59Speaker 6: It was have the intensity of a text low U game.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Well that's nice.
- 20:03Speaker 6: So, yeah, it is nice. I enjoyed that Bowl game
- 20:07Speaker 6: as much as I have in a long time, without
- 20:11Speaker 6: a whole lot at stake other than getting a tith
- 20:13Speaker 6: win for Texas.
- 20:14Speaker 3: But you know, we.
- 20:16Speaker 6: Still need to fix this. I don't know if college
- 20:18Speaker 6: football can be fixed. I don't know where you go,
- 20:21Speaker 6: and I think it's inevitable they become employees and do
- 20:25Speaker 6: a CBA agreement and all of that rigor and role
- 20:28Speaker 6: that they're going to fix it. But yeah, I'm looking
- 20:31Speaker 6: forward to these games that I'm going to the Natural
- 20:34Speaker 6: Championship next week.
- 20:35Speaker 5: Nice.
- 20:35Speaker 6: So, like I said, the game is as popular and
- 20:39Speaker 6: as healthy as ever, you know, but inside, you know,
- 20:42Speaker 6: there's a lot of problems.
- 20:44Speaker 1: We'll continue with KRK Poles after this for Bras's Homecare
- 20:48Speaker 1: and Tagler Chevrolet.

- 21:54Speaker 1: We're joined on the Player's Fund Center phone line by
- 21:56Speaker 1: Kirk Bowles of the Houston Chronicle.
- 22:00Speaker 5: Kirk let's I don't know if we want.
- 22:04Speaker 1: To spend too much time on basketball. But things aren't
- 22:07Speaker 1: aren't looking real good at Sean and Sean Miller's first season.
- 22:12Speaker 6: And you're being very very kind.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Yeah, And you know, one of the things I was
- 22:16Speaker 1: thinking about, we were talking before we went on the air,
- 22:20Speaker 1: is you look at what Bucky's done. He's off to
- 22:23Speaker 1: the two and oh start in the league and he
- 22:27Speaker 1: was the last guy there. The transfer portal was had
- 22:31Speaker 1: been open and was just about closed when he took over,
- 22:35Speaker 1: and yet he got like twelve thirteen players and he's
- 22:40Speaker 1: made these guys immediately buy into his system, play his
- 22:44Speaker 1: style of basketball, do what he wants and he's got
- 22:48Speaker 1: some talented players on that team.
- 22:50Speaker 6: Well, he's doing a hell of a hell of a job,
- 22:52Speaker 6: he really is. And it tells you that the number
- 22:56Speaker 6: two thing after a revenue sharing and in a hell
- 23:00Speaker 6: money is evaluation. Yeah, is that who can you get? Obviously?
- 23:05Speaker 6: But who do you want? Who does fit your syntey right?
- 23:09Speaker 6: And that just means everything. And that's where Sean Miller
- 23:14Speaker 6: either dropped the ball or because he was hired later too,
- 23:19Speaker 6: his hands were a little bit tied. They don't get
- 23:21Speaker 6: basketball money here Texas like they do a lot of
- 23:25Speaker 6: other schools. If they had, they might have gotten JT.
- 23:27Speaker 6: Toppin the Big twelve players here for Texas Tech.
- 23:30Speaker 1: You know, I've heard there is I've heard you say
- 23:33Speaker 1: that in terms of what they have budgeted for basketball.
- 23:38Speaker 1: But I'll say the same thing in every sport. But
- 23:41Speaker 1: if they look east down the Highway ninety miles in
- 23:46Speaker 1: this team that's I'm close to over here is kicking.
- 23:51Speaker 1: But maybe that will cause them to open up their
- 23:54Speaker 1: check books a little bit.
- 23:57Speaker 6: You would think so. You would definitely think so. And
- 24:00Speaker 6: H And I know Sean Miller would agree with that,
- 24:02Speaker 6: because even he, after the lost to Tennessee this week,
- 24:06Speaker 6: said you know, we're just not a very good team,
- 24:08Speaker 6: and everybody else went, hello, yeah, you know they're sitting
- 24:12Speaker 6: there at nine and six. I was at the game
- 24:14Speaker 6: against the Mississippi State the last Saturday night, and oh
- 24:18Speaker 6: my goodness, I mean, Josh Hubbard and Jaydon Epps just
- 24:22Speaker 6: destroyed that.
- 24:22Speaker 1: They destroyed that pipe one and fairness, Josh Hubbard did
- 24:26Speaker 1: the same thing earlier this week.
- 24:28Speaker 3: He's pretty good.
- 24:31Speaker 6: He's pretty good. He mightn't be the player of the year. Good. Yeah,
- 24:34Speaker 6: that's how impressive he is. Uh, you know, Florida's got
- 24:38Speaker 6: some great players those Alabama and go down the list.
- 24:41Speaker 6: But I think part of where Sean Miller missed the
- 24:44Speaker 6: mark was the evaluation in the three players that he
- 24:48Speaker 6: brought back, Tremond Mark and the weaver Jordan Pope. He
- 24:53Speaker 6: I think he overestimated how good they were, and they
- 24:58Speaker 6: played played well against him and Dayton in that first
- 25:02Speaker 6: four game, So I think he kind of got a
- 25:04Speaker 6: skewge perspective. And you know, he didn't get a ton
- 25:09Speaker 6: of people out of the tent portal. Monus bulk Itis
- 25:15Speaker 6: has not been as physical or big rebounder like he thought.
- 25:20Speaker 6: Even though Jordan Pope's a good score, he kind of
- 25:23Speaker 6: comes and goes. I mean, David Swain, you know, the
- 25:26Speaker 6: six to eight win guy brought with him from Xavier
- 25:29Speaker 6: and maybe one of only a couple of players he
- 25:31Speaker 6: keeps for next year. So yeah, he's going to have
- 25:35Speaker 6: a massive rebuild after this season. And I know it
- 25:39Speaker 6: pains him to start this way, but I can't say
- 25:42Speaker 6: everybody didn't see it coming.
- 25:44Speaker 1: When when does baseball start?
- 25:46Speaker 3: Not soon enough?
- 25:50Speaker 1: I don't know whats going to do over there in
- 25:53Speaker 1: the next six weeks or so.
- 25:55Speaker 6: They're gonna watch women's basketball. Friend to watch the number
- 26:00Speaker 6: two team in the nation that's got six wins over
- 26:03Speaker 6: ranked teams, and we're gonna we're gonna pour our attention
- 26:07Speaker 6: and focus on those Kapers. Another for braggy coach. We

- 28:00Speaker 3: how to run this board in here.
- 28:02Speaker 4: Yeah. I was like on Borderline, acting the same way.
- 28:04Speaker 4: It's been so long stuff been on the bi Yeah,
- 28:06Speaker 4: I'm watching it like a.
- 28:07Speaker 3: Bunch of buttons, like, oh by doing this right? Like
- 28:09Speaker 3: what have I done? Of course I'm not making things
- 28:11Speaker 3: any easier on you. I tend to have that effect
- 28:14Speaker 3: on people. Anyways. Let's talk a little bit of entertainment
- 28:16Speaker 3: news before we get into college football a little later
- 28:19Speaker 3: on this hour. Today is January the ninth, also known
- 28:24Speaker 3: as Quitter's Day. You ever heard of Quitter's Day? I
- 28:28Speaker 3: have not, So this is the day when you are
- 28:30Speaker 3: most likely to drop your new Year's resolution. We're not
- 28:33Speaker 3: even ten days into the year. Yes, we are not
- 28:36Speaker 3: even ten days into the year, and it is already
- 28:38Speaker 3: Quitter's Day, so we're two percent of the way through
- 28:40Speaker 3: twenty twenty six. That's good enough, right, Yeah? Now I
- 28:44Speaker 3: started my New Year's resolution like months ago, so can
- 28:47Speaker 3: you really call it a resolution? I don't know, but
- 28:49Speaker 3: that's what I'm gonna fill it fill it in for.
- 28:51Speaker 3: It's always the second Friday of January, because we can
- 28:54Speaker 3: make it one weekend with no pizza drinking, and then
- 28:56Speaker 3: two weekends in a row is just like next to impossible.
- 29:00Speaker 4: Is this the twenties?
- 29:01Speaker 3: So happy National Quitter's data all who celebrate, which apparently
- 29:04Speaker 3: is a lot of people, about eighty percent of people
- 29:07Speaker 3: according to this. No, we're not gonna have any quitters
- 29:09Speaker 3: here in BCS. If you are on your New Year's resolution,
- 29:11Speaker 3: just stick to it, and I believe in you. Yeah,
- 29:14Speaker 3: that's that's the motivation. We need none of this quit
- 29:16Speaker 3: and stuff. Stick to it now. One thing you can
- 29:19Speaker 3: quit in. One thing Bath and body Works certainly quit
- 29:22Speaker 3: was their pizza and ranch candle. You see any of
- 29:24Speaker 3: this on TikTok. I did see it. So for those
- 29:27Speaker 3: of you that are out of the loop, this is
- 29:28Speaker 3: a thing that has been going around on TikTok. Bath
- 29:31Speaker 3: and Bodyworks created a new candle scent pizza and Ranch,
- 29:36Speaker 3: and it was apparently as bad as it sounds, because
- 29:39Speaker 3: people were literally gagging smelling this thing. It became a
- 29:43Speaker 3: TikTok trend to go smell it and then post your reaction. So,
- 29:46Speaker 3: needless to say, they decided to nix this rightfully. So
- 29:50Speaker 3: I don't know who in their right mind thought that
- 29:52Speaker 3: this abomination would be a good thing.
- 29:54Speaker 4: Well, I think they have a chips and salsa one
- 29:56Speaker 4: because I came up on that when I was looking
- 29:58Speaker 4: at it. So either chips and sauc or guacamole or
- 30:00Speaker 4: something just.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Well, you can probably get away with chips and salsa
- 30:05Speaker 3: and texas. Yeah, but out of pizza and ranch. I
- 30:07Speaker 3: don't know about that. Yeah, clearly it didn't work out.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Oh this is oh my goodness. This is a story
- 30:15Speaker 3: out of China that I read the other day. So
- 30:19Speaker 3: apparently in China there's like a big problem with people
- 30:21Speaker 3: smoking in their bathrooms, like public bathrooms, and so they
- 30:26Speaker 3: have added a new technology that is see through windows
- 30:31Speaker 3: when they detect you smoking in there. So you go
- 30:35Speaker 3: in the bathroom and you get in the stall and
- 30:36Speaker 3: you light one up, and then all of a sudden,
- 30:38Speaker 3: the window becomes see through and everybody can see you
- 30:40Speaker 3: in there.
- 30:41Speaker 9: Oh.
- 30:42Speaker 3: I mean that'll definitely, I mean, it sounds like it
- 30:45Speaker 3: would be a good detern I think for most people
- 30:47Speaker 3: would be a good to China. There's some people out
- 30:49Speaker 3: there and I'd probably be like, oh, I'm definitely gonna
- 30:51Speaker 3: light up a couple now. Yeah. Right, So that's an
- 30:55Speaker 3: interesting piece of technology. I don't know if I ever
- 30:58Speaker 3: want to see that make it.
- 30:59Speaker 4: Over here not either, that would be very wild.
- 31:02Speaker 3: But yeah, don't don't smoke in bathrooms.
- 31:04Speaker 4: Yeah, please that This would be a good time to
- 31:06Speaker 4: quit for today. You can quit your smoking habit.
- 31:09Speaker 3: See. I I thankfully never got into smoking, you know,
- 31:13Speaker 3: I was born late enough to be raised and taught
- 31:17Speaker 3: that it's a very bad thing to do and bad
- 31:19Speaker 3: for you. Yeah, so I'm thankful for that. Ye I
- 31:23Speaker 3: sped through all those because I actually want to get
- 31:25Speaker 3: to what I really want to talk about, which is
- 31:26Speaker 3: the Rodeo lineup. The Rodeo lineup, dude, that dropped last night.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Have you ever been to the Rodeo before? I have not,
- 31:32Speaker 3: So I've been a couple of times. Okay, I've been
- 31:35Speaker 3: to two concerts. It's the Rodeo, And I want to
- 31:36Speaker 3: say I've probably been to the Rodeo like Carnival, like
- 31:39Speaker 3: four times, maybe three or four times. So the lineup
- 31:43Speaker 3: came out last night, and I've seen a lot of
- 31:47Speaker 3: kind of mixed takes on this online. Some people are
- 31:49Speaker 3: saying that it's weak. Other people are good with it.
- 31:53Speaker 3: It's obviously a lot of country because it's the Rodeo,
- 31:55Speaker 3: so it's a country themed event. But they always have
- 31:57Speaker 3: a couple different genres. There something for everybody. So here's
- 32:02Speaker 3: where we open. Riley Green That is Monday, March the second.
- 32:06Speaker 3: That is the opening performer for the Rodeo. You have
- 32:08Speaker 3: j Balvin for Latin nights, Rascal Flat I like Rascal Flats,
- 32:13Speaker 3: They're on the fourth of March, and then after that
- 32:16Speaker 3: you get Russell Dickerson and then Lizzo for R and
- 32:21Speaker 3: B Night. Now, Lizzo is a couple of years removed
- 32:24Speaker 3: from having, you know, big hits that people actually cared about. Yeah,
- 32:28Speaker 3: I will say that I actually got a chance to
- 32:31Speaker 3: go to her concert in Houston a couple of years ago.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Houston is where she's from, so every time she does
- 32:37Speaker 3: a performance in Houston, she does it up big. Like
- 32:40Speaker 3: she she brought the band from the elementary school maybe
- 32:46Speaker 3: it was the high school, the school that she grew
- 32:49Speaker 3: up in in Houston, and because she plays the flute,
- 32:51Speaker 3: and so she brought them out there and like had
- 32:53Speaker 3: them like at her show and did like a whole
- 32:55Speaker 3: spotlight thing on them. She had her hair like this
- 32:57Speaker 3: Houston you know skyline mural thing in her hair, and
- 33:02Speaker 3: she she did it up really really well. I was
- 33:04Speaker 3: actually very impressed with how good her concert was. So
- 33:07Speaker 3: I would not sleep on that show. If that's like
- 33:10Speaker 3: your stuff, if you're into like R and B, you know,
- 33:12Speaker 3: pop kind of music, I would not sleep on Lizzo's show.
- 33:15Speaker 3: I think she could put on a really really good one.
- 33:17Speaker 4: Now on hers, does she bring out the flute because
- 33:20Speaker 4: I know she did.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Yes, when I went to her concert a few years ago.
- 33:24Speaker 3: She did. She brought out the flute and she killed
- 33:26Speaker 3: it up there with that flute. It was awesome. So
- 33:29Speaker 3: after that, you have Dwight Yoakum, which I believe is
- 33:33Speaker 3: a country artist. Yes, old school, Yeah, okay, old school.
- 33:36Speaker 3: So I'm a baby, and that's why I'm not familiar
- 33:38Speaker 3: with him. Will would be slapping me every which way
- 33:41Speaker 3: right now, like, yeah, exactly, So Forrest Frank. Beyond that,
- 33:47Speaker 3: then you have Luke Bryan. I feel like he's at
- 33:49Speaker 3: the Rodeo every single year, which he's a big name,
- 33:52Speaker 3: so I have no problem with that. Megan Maroney definitely
- 33:54Speaker 3: heard of her. Rock Knight was it? It was Journey last year,
- 33:57Speaker 3: wasn't it for rock Knight? So this creed performs on
- 34:03Speaker 3: Rock Night? They obviously I heard enough of them when
- 34:07Speaker 3: the Rangers won the World Series a couple years ago.
- 34:10Speaker 3: So cool. Chris Stapleton. I like Chris Stapleton. I'm a
- 34:14Speaker 3: fan of his. He's on the twelfth, Shaboozie is on
- 34:16Speaker 3: the thirteenth. He's more modern. Yeah, there's arguments with Schaboozie
- 34:21Speaker 3: about whether or not he's actual country, but I there's
- 34:24Speaker 3: a lot of crossover with him into like the pop field,
- 34:27Speaker 3: so I think that's why he gets that argument a lot.
- 34:28Speaker 3: But Shaboozie is on the thirteenth of March. This is
- 34:31Speaker 3: the show that I'm probably going to go to Saturday
- 34:34Speaker 3: the fourteenth, the pop act Kelly Clarkson. Dude, I love
- 34:39Speaker 3: Kelly Clarkson. I agree, she is awesome. She's a Texas girl.
- 34:43Speaker 3: She's got some hits. People are like, oh, she would
- 34:45Speaker 3: have been a list show fifteen years ago. I'm like, dude, no,
- 34:49Speaker 3: she kills she kills it.
- 34:50Speaker 4: And I've been seeing a lot of shorts where she
- 34:52Speaker 4: covers other people's songs and I'm like, he does that
- 34:54Speaker 4: a lot of her song now. She is talented, she.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Can sing that, she has some great songs. I am
- 35:01Speaker 3: a full on fan of hers. I will happily go
- 35:03Speaker 3: to that show and have a great and it'll be
- 35:05Speaker 3: a great time too, So I'm definitely gonna look to
- 35:07Speaker 3: get tickets to that. And I love that it's on
- 35:08Speaker 3: a Saturday night too. That just makes it so much better.
- 35:12Speaker 8: Uh.
- 35:12Speaker 3: Peppy Aguilar is the Sunday after that, and then you
- 35:15Speaker 3: have a cross Canadian Ragweed on the sixteenth, the Red
- 35:17Speaker 3: Clay Strays seventeenth. Co Wetzel didn't she do? Uh?
- 35:21Speaker 6: She was?
- 35:22Speaker 3: I forget which festival was, but I'm pretty sure she
- 35:24Speaker 3: was on the lineup of one of ours up here a.
- 35:26Speaker 4: Couple of well, I'm pretty sure Cole Wessel is a
- 35:28Speaker 4: guy I'm not.
- 35:30Speaker 3: Okay, I appreciate you correcting me there. The pictures are
- 35:34Speaker 3: very very small, and I'm I'm mixing my names up then,
- 35:37Speaker 3: so thank you for correcting. Lady is under him, so
- 35:40Speaker 3: I get it. Yeah, okay, and then that'll be like
- 35:42Speaker 3: Landy Wilson, He's gonna be here like, yeah, that's what
- 35:44Speaker 3: I want to do next, right, See, this is why
- 35:47Speaker 3: I'm glad to have a co host who can correct
- 35:48Speaker 3: me when I do these things, because man, I dig
- 35:50Speaker 3: my own grave sometimes, don't I? Yeah, Lady Wilson. After that,
- 35:53Speaker 3: then you have Parker McCollum, Tim McGraw, and then it
- 35:55Speaker 3: closes out with Cody Johnson. So I think it's a
- 35:59Speaker 3: good Rodeo line up this year.
- 36:00Speaker 4: Yeah, I think. So, I'm not mad at it.
- 36:02Speaker 3: I'm also not like I'm not a country music fan.
- 36:05Speaker 3: So this is why.
- 36:06Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not a fan of the modern country. It's
- 36:09Speaker 4: just too depressing. But I like the old school stuff
- 36:11Speaker 4: like George Strait.
- 36:12Speaker 3: And oh yes, yeah, George, Oh awesome.
- 36:16Speaker 4: Yeah, so that's my country, like the new one whatever.
- 36:20Speaker 3: But yeah, I think.
- 36:21Speaker 4: Overall, because I mean it's got you know, old school country,
- 36:24Speaker 4: new school country, a little bit of this, a little
- 36:26Speaker 4: bit of that.
- 36:27Speaker 3: I'm not mad at it.
- 36:27Speaker 4: It's good to have diversity.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm totally fine with that. And these people that
- 36:32Speaker 3: are bashing this lineup, they just have no taste.
- 36:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's just the thing to do now, like, oh,
- 36:37Speaker 4: what can we find a hate on this?
- 36:38Speaker 3: Yeah, everybody loves to hate on something. So that's Rodeo
- 36:41Speaker 3: lineup for this year. Of course. That opens March the second,
- 36:44Speaker 3: and it runs through March twenty second. I've been to
- 36:46Speaker 3: two Rodeo concerts and they were both phenomenal. I it's
- 36:50Speaker 3: I will say too, It's a concert like no other
- 36:53Speaker 3: because they put you in NRG Stadium and they got
- 36:55Speaker 3: the dirt like everywhere, and then they put them on
- 36:57Speaker 3: the big spinning stage and so you're like, all, well,
- 37:00Speaker 3: it doesn't matter where you're sitting you're going to get
- 37:02Speaker 3: a good view of the show. So if you've never
- 37:05Speaker 3: been to a rodeo concert, I would absolutely recommend it.
- 37:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I've never heard anything bad about it, Laurism, I've
- 37:12Speaker 4: never been to this kind of rodeo is because it
- 37:14Speaker 4: is always packed. I hear so much about how there's
- 37:16Speaker 4: just thousands of thousands of people.
- 37:19Speaker 3: It is. Dude, this is such a huge deal. Like
- 37:22Speaker 3: I have a guy that I went to high school
- 37:24Speaker 3: with who he lives in New York now and I've
- 37:27Speaker 3: just casually scrolling through Instagram the other night and in
- 37:30Speaker 3: New York City they just have this giant Rodeo Houston
- 37:33Speaker 3: pop up just there and he's like, it's like, what
- 37:36Speaker 3: are you doing here? Like are you lost? So they
- 37:40Speaker 3: do a good job of like trying to get national exposure.
- 37:42Speaker 3: Yeah on this thing. It is a huge deal. And
- 37:45Speaker 3: not just the concert itself, Like the fair is a
- 37:47Speaker 3: lot of fun. The stuff with the animals that they do.
- 37:50Speaker 3: I mean I've been to some of those. It's a
- 37:53Speaker 3: great time. Rodeo Houston. Absolutely, you've never gone to it.
- 37:56Speaker 3: As a matter of fact, maybe me and you should go,
- 37:58Speaker 3: Like we do another thing like we did for Movie
- 37:59Speaker 3: Gardens that'd be a lot of fun to do. So
- 38:02Speaker 3: that is the Rodeo Houston lineup that is coming up
- 38:04Speaker 3: in March. Cannot cannot wait for that. So let me
- 38:07Speaker 3: look at my little schedule here and see what we
- 38:09Speaker 3: have coming up. We have a Texans Report coming up,
- 38:11Speaker 3: don't we And then after that we'll do college football.
- 38:14Speaker 3: So let's go ahead and go into the Texans Report
- 38:15Speaker 3: right now, and then we'll close out this hour. We'll
- 38:18Speaker 3: talk some college football that's coming up here in just
- 38:20Speaker 3: a bit.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I want to remind you that Gallery of Spa Salon
- 38:24Speaker 1: boutique a couple of locations. The boutique is at Century

- 38:59Speaker 1: Day Lee is on sale there right now. They've got jewelry,

- 39:51Speaker 13: The Houston Texans began their quest for the Super Bowl
- 39:54Speaker 13: this Monday, while they'll travel to the Steel City to
- 39:57Speaker 13: take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. It will be CJS Stroud's
- 40:00Speaker 13: fifth playoff appearance since being drafted in twenty twenty two.
- 40:03Speaker 13: He'll have to bring his a game, though, because he'll
- 40:05Speaker 13: be facing off against Aaron Rodgers, who's making his twenty
- 40:08Speaker 13: third playoff appearance in his career. His record is twelve
- 40:11Speaker 13: and ten. Here's head coach Jamiko Ryan on how he's
- 40:14Speaker 13: approaching this playoff game.
- 40:15Speaker 9: His game.
- 40:16Speaker 10: Here is a really great matchup because when you when
- 40:19Speaker 10: you watch the Steelers and you watch the Texans, you're
- 40:21Speaker 10: going to get two physical football teams.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Right.
- 40:24Speaker 10: Is going to be old school football is going to
- 40:26Speaker 10: be physical on both sides, and that's you should I
- 40:29Speaker 10: can't get more excited about it, right because that's the
- 40:32Speaker 10: thing that stands out. Coach Tomlin has always done an
- 40:34Speaker 10: outstanding job with this team. He had a ton of
- 40:37Speaker 10: success for a reason. They play the right way.
- 40:40Speaker 13: The Texans will be on ESPN's Monday night football slot,
- 40:43Speaker 13: with kickoff scheduled for seven to fifteen pm. I'm Adam
- 40:47Speaker 13: C and this is your Texans report.

- 42:30Speaker 3: It is the Zone eleven fifty AM and ninety three
- 42:35Speaker 3: point seven FM's Ryan hanging Out with You Will is
- 42:38Speaker 3: out tending to an emergency that popped up right before
- 42:41Speaker 3: the show started. Quarteringmacks joining me in here running the
- 42:44Speaker 3: board for me, thank you so much. As we approach
- 42:46Speaker 3: five o'clock quitting time on a Friday afternoon, I guess
- 42:51Speaker 3: we should talk a little college football's that's still going on,
- 42:53Speaker 3: right That's still a pretty important thing.
- 42:55Speaker 13: Right now.
- 42:56Speaker 3: Let's let's see where where should we start. Why don't
- 42:58Speaker 3: we start with the Trinita Chambliss story, because that came
- 43:02Speaker 3: out a couple hours ago earlier today, and the story
- 43:05Speaker 3: with that is that the NCAA denied his waiver for
- 43:10Speaker 3: a sixth year of eligibility. Of course, the ole Miss quarterback,
- 43:13Speaker 3: they are planning to appeal that decision, but it's not
- 43:17Speaker 3: necessarily a surprise. I believe the NCAAA verbally gave them
- 43:23Speaker 3: this denial back in December, so this is kind of
- 43:25Speaker 3: just a formal written one. The basis of the case
- 43:30Speaker 3: for the waiver is that he was dealing with some
- 43:33Speaker 3: kind of respiratory issues during his sophomore year when he
- 43:36Speaker 3: played at Farris State. That's a D two school, So
- 43:40Speaker 3: that's why he submitted the waiver. Of course NCAAA said
- 43:43Speaker 3: no to that. Here's the play though, and this is
- 43:47Speaker 3: the angle that Ole miss is going to try and
- 43:50Speaker 3: work this to get this overturned. Right now, they see
- 43:55Speaker 3: an opportunity to move this case to Mississippi, where a
- 44:00Speaker 3: judiciary there can make this decision instead of the people
- 44:07Speaker 3: in Indianapolis or you know wherever they're at making this
- 44:10Speaker 3: decision at right now. So I would be kind of
- 44:13Speaker 3: surprised if this doesn't get overturned, if they are able
- 44:16Speaker 3: to successfully move it to Mississippi, because if you do that,
- 44:20Speaker 3: then you're just gonna get some judge that's like, of
- 44:24Speaker 3: course he could play well, I get that home field
- 44:26Speaker 3: advantage in the courts, like, and then you're set, You're
- 44:29Speaker 3: good to go. So that's the angle they're gonna do here.
- 44:33Speaker 3: I am probably gonna bet that he does get this overturned.
- 44:37Speaker 3: That's my feeling on it. Of course, we'll see how
- 44:38Speaker 3: that actually unfolds. But that is the story with Trinidad Chambliss. Now,
- 44:42Speaker 3: I guess onto the teams that are actually playing still,
- 44:46Speaker 3: Miami is one of them. I don't know if you
- 44:49Speaker 3: had a chance to watch the game last night between
- 44:51Speaker 3: Miami and did you watch any of it? The Miami
- 44:54Speaker 3: and Ale miss.
- 44:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I watched the first half and it was like
- 44:57Speaker 4: so so, But the second half, I'm like, dang, I
- 45:01Speaker 4: wish I would have seen that because it looked like
- 45:02Speaker 4: it went off the rails, especially the last two minutes.
- 45:05Speaker 3: Yeah, dude, no, it absolutely did. It really took off
- 45:08Speaker 3: there at the end. And I will say the at least,
- 45:12Speaker 3: and I don't want to call this a good thing,
- 45:13Speaker 3: but it makes me feel a little bit better. Is
- 45:15Speaker 3: now at least we could say that A and M
- 45:16Speaker 3: lost to the maybe eventual national champions, at least a
- 45:19Speaker 3: team that made that game. Yes, because you've seen the
- 45:23Speaker 3: like little draft before. With eight point thirty left in
- 45:27Speaker 3: the fourth quarter, you had an Ole miss at about
- 45:30Speaker 3: a seventy percent chance of winning. That swung all the
- 45:33Speaker 3: way up to a Miami eighty percent chance of winning
- 45:36Speaker 3: with five minutes left in the fourth quarter, which then
- 45:39Speaker 3: swung all the way back to a ol miss. About
- 45:43Speaker 3: trying to get it to hover in here on exactly
- 45:45Speaker 3: what the highest percentage was, but it was a very
- 45:48Speaker 3: considerable amount chance, like over eighty percent chance of Ole
- 45:50Speaker 3: Miss and then swings all the way back to Miami
- 45:53Speaker 3: at the end. So that gives you a good idea
- 45:55Speaker 3: of how hectic that the ending of this game was,
- 45:57Speaker 3: just with the way it swings wildly like that. So
- 45:59Speaker 3: Miami ends up knocking off Ole Miss thirty one to
- 46:03Speaker 3: twenty seven to move on to the national championship game,
- 46:07Speaker 3: which I did not see coming. If you remember when
- 46:09Speaker 3: I did my bracket picks with Will before the Holiday,
- 46:13Speaker 3: I picked, we both picked A and M to knock
- 46:15Speaker 3: off Miami. I did not believe in Miami at all
- 46:20Speaker 3: going into that game, because remember, they weren't even guaranteed
- 46:22Speaker 3: to make the college football playoff at one point, Like
- 46:25Speaker 3: there was a good period of time where the assumption
- 46:28Speaker 3: was that if Duke won that bowl game that there
- 46:31Speaker 3: would be no acc team to make the playoff, which
- 46:34Speaker 3: ended up obviously not being what happened, and said it
- 46:36Speaker 3: was Notre Dame that rightfully got left out of the playoffs,
- 46:40Speaker 3: emphasized that again, they rightfully got left out of the playoffs.
- 46:43Speaker 3: I don't care what they complain about, so props to Miami. Honestly, dude,
- 46:47Speaker 3: I really have nothing bad to say about what they
- 46:49Speaker 3: have managed to pull off. I mean, Carson Beck has
- 46:52Speaker 3: been through it, so I'm happy for him to see
- 46:56Speaker 3: that he's getting this opportunity to go play in this
- 46:58Speaker 3: game against the winner of the game. Obviously. Tonight is
- 47:02Speaker 3: coming up is the Indiana and Oregon game. Yeah, which
- 47:07Speaker 3: that first off, I expect this to be a fun game.
- 47:10Speaker 3: Indiana has been pretty obviously they dominated Alabama, but I
- 47:17Speaker 3: do expect this one to be a lot closer to
- 47:18Speaker 3: these teams have already played. Oregon. Organ's had a bit
- 47:22Speaker 3: of an easy path, if you ask me, because they
- 47:23Speaker 3: played JMU and then they played Texas Tech, which, full
- 47:27Speaker 3: disrespect to Texas Tech. They were fraudulent to begin with.
- 47:29Speaker 3: I knew that from I knew that going into the playoff.
- 47:32Speaker 3: I never thought they deserved to have a top four seed.
- 47:33Speaker 3: But that's what happens when you play a big twelve schedule,
- 47:36Speaker 3: and we saw that. Get okay, half of Texas Tech
- 47:39Speaker 3: was fraudular. Their defense was legit. The Texas Tech defense
- 47:42Speaker 3: played well, but that offense was a hot heap and
- 47:46Speaker 3: pile of garbage. They they were very committed to Baron Morton,
- 47:50Speaker 3: and you know what, I can't even be that mean
- 47:54Speaker 3: to them for that because Baron Morton grew up a
- 47:56Speaker 3: Texas Tech guy. He rooted for that team his entire life.
- 47:59Speaker 3: You could say, hell with how emotional he was after
- 48:03Speaker 3: the game that he it hurt him like deep in
- 48:07Speaker 3: his soul. But he that man did not play well
- 48:09Speaker 3: and there's no there's no way to sugarcoat it. And
- 48:11Speaker 3: I think if Texas Tech had been I don't know
- 48:17Speaker 3: if there's a great way to even make this sound
- 48:18Speaker 3: if they had been a little less loyal to him,
- 48:20Speaker 3: then they might still be playing football right now. But
- 48:23Speaker 3: that's the way they went. I'm not going to criticize
- 48:27Speaker 3: him for it because they were loyal to the guy,
- 48:28Speaker 3: and you've already seen what they have done. They have
- 48:30Speaker 3: gone out and they got Brendan Sorosby from Cincinnati who
- 48:34Speaker 3: It depends on which Rancor you look at, but a
- 48:39Speaker 3: lot of them had him as like the number one
- 48:41Speaker 3: player in the transfer portal. I don't think he deserves
- 48:43Speaker 3: to be that high personally, think he's I think Leavitt's
- 48:47Speaker 3: the better quarterback out of the Big twelve, and he
- 48:49Speaker 3: might end up going to LSU. I think he's still
- 48:51Speaker 3: trying to decide where he's going to go. But they're
- 48:53Speaker 3: making the moves there, but nonetheless back to the teams
- 48:56Speaker 3: that are actually still playing. I was pretty impressed with Oregon.
- 49:00Speaker 3: I mean, nobody had been able to be that dominant
- 49:03Speaker 3: over Texas Tech throughout this year. Even Arizona State beat
- 49:07Speaker 3: him once, but that was with Texas Tech's backup quarterbacks.
- 49:10Speaker 3: So I kind of just dismissed that game. But maybe
- 49:11Speaker 3: it is a product of the Big twelve just not
- 49:13Speaker 3: being as strong as the Big Ten. So that brings
- 49:16Speaker 3: us to Oregon and Indiana, which this is a game
- 49:20Speaker 3: that's happening tonight. What time does this game kick off tonight?
- 49:22Speaker 8: Uh?
- 49:23Speaker 4: See, it's shows six to thirty PM.
- 49:25Speaker 3: Okay, so yeah that's gonna be it. Then, So Indiana
- 49:28Speaker 3: fourteen and Oero Oregon thirteen and one. This is a rematch.
- 49:32Speaker 3: This game did already happen earlier in the season. The
- 49:35Speaker 3: game was played at Oregon, so it was on Oregon's
- 49:37Speaker 3: home turf. Indiana won that game thirty to twenty. So
- 49:43Speaker 3: we've seen an example of how this goes already. Indiana,
- 49:48Speaker 3: as I mentioned, they had the bye week and then
- 49:50Speaker 3: they came out just stomped Alabama. So what does that
- 49:54Speaker 3: lead you to believe for this game that Indiana defense
- 49:56Speaker 3: has been very good. I believe they held Alabama and
- 50:00Speaker 3: Ohio State to thirteen points combined between the two teams,
- 50:04Speaker 3: thirteen points only, So that is a very good defense,
- 50:07Speaker 3: to say the least. You got Fernanda Mendoza, who is
- 50:10Speaker 3: playing some great football. He's complimented. He's got what two
- 50:14Speaker 3: running backs with over eight hundred yards, two receivers with
- 50:17Speaker 3: over seven hundred yards. As I said, Indiana has already
- 50:20Speaker 3: knocked off Oregon once by double digits. That was on
- 50:23Speaker 3: the road, that was at Oregon, So that boats pretty
- 50:26Speaker 3: well for Indiana. The reason that I'm not going to
- 50:31Speaker 3: quite dismiss Organ because I really like Indiana here. I
- 50:36Speaker 3: think they have proven themselves to be the team to
- 50:38Speaker 3: beat until somebody else proves otherwise. So the reason that
- 50:42Speaker 3: I don't want to dismiss Organ is because it is
- 50:44Speaker 3: tough to beat a great team twice, and that it
- 50:46Speaker 3: has been a rule throughout college football for the beginning
- 50:49Speaker 3: of time. It is very hard to be a great
- 50:51Speaker 3: team twice. This is a little statistic that I read online.
- 50:55Speaker 3: This is the sixth rematch of a regular season game
- 51:00Speaker 3: in college football playoff history, So It's the sixth time
- 51:02Speaker 3: that you've had a rematch in the playoff of a
- 51:05Speaker 3: game that was played in the regular season featuring the
- 51:07Speaker 3: two same teams, and four out of the previous five
- 51:11Speaker 3: were won by the team that lost in the regular season,
- 51:14Speaker 3: So it's it's a small sample size, but the sample
- 51:17Speaker 3: size that we have suggests that the losing team the
- 51:20Speaker 3: first time around typically gets the better of the winning
- 51:23Speaker 3: team the second time around, So we will see if
- 51:27Speaker 3: that proves to be the case this time or not.
- 51:30Speaker 3: I still tend to lean with Indiana here, just because,
- 51:36Speaker 3: as I said, I haven't seen them really get waiver.
- 51:41Speaker 3: I haven't seen them really get pushed. They seem like
- 51:46Speaker 3: I mean, maybe you could argue Miami, but obviously they've
- 51:49Speaker 3: won all fourteen of their games, so it's hard to
- 51:50Speaker 3: say Miami's the hottest team in college football when you
- 51:53Speaker 3: have a team that hasn't lost and it's a Big
- 51:55Speaker 3: Ten team that has proven against that schedule. So I'm
- 51:58Speaker 3: gonna probably lean Indiana here, and then that would set
- 52:02Speaker 3: up Miami and Indiana in the national championship game, which
- 52:05Speaker 3: would be half of what I predicted, so at least
- 52:08Speaker 3: I would be fifty percent right on that because I'm
- 52:10Speaker 3: pretty sure I did predict Indiana to get to the
- 52:12Speaker 3: National Championship game with shocker, that's not a big h
- 52:15Speaker 3: That's not a home run swing, is it. But it
- 52:20Speaker 3: should set up a really really uh fantastic game, And
- 52:22Speaker 3: again we could feel good that A and M at
- 52:24Speaker 3: least lost to the team that made it.
- 52:26Speaker 4: To the National Ship round to.
- 52:28Speaker 3: The Championship round. It also makes me feel better because
- 52:32Speaker 3: with Miami making it farther, it really kind of puts
- 52:35Speaker 3: another nail into Notre Dames coffin of all the arguments
- 52:38Speaker 3: that they were trying to make they should have made it,
- 52:40Speaker 3: and then Miami just goes on this crazy playoff run.
- 52:44Speaker 3: So good for them. It's gonna be a lot of
- 52:46Speaker 3: fun to watch, and it's kind of I also saw
- 52:50Speaker 3: this interesting question too, because I don't know if you
- 52:53Speaker 3: know the game. The championship game is in Miami. It's
- 52:57Speaker 3: at hard Rock Stadium, I believe, so Miami is going
- 52:59Speaker 3: to be playing in their home football field for this game. Now,
- 53:04Speaker 3: obviously it's going to be branded as a neutral site game.
- 53:09Speaker 3: So the interesting question I saw was is Miami going
- 53:11Speaker 3: to have to use the away locker room since they're
- 53:13Speaker 3: the lower seed here in this game. Like imagine playing
- 53:16Speaker 3: in your own stadium, but you have to go in
- 53:18Speaker 3: the away team locker room for this game because you're
- 53:21Speaker 3: the lower seed. I mean, I feel like that's what
- 53:23Speaker 3: would happen here. But it does add another dynamic to
- 53:26Speaker 3: this that Miami will, in all lessons be playing this
- 53:29Speaker 3: game at home, regardless of whether it's against Oregon or Indiana.
- 53:33Speaker 3: So I do think that when we get to that
- 53:36Speaker 3: game that I haven't seen when that game is actually happening.
- 53:41Speaker 3: But okay, so watch well, okay, we'll have another show
- 53:44Speaker 3: between then and there when we actually dive more into
- 53:47Speaker 3: that game. I do think them playing at home will
- 53:50Speaker 3: definitely be an important factor for that football game, which
- 53:53Speaker 3: I do expect to be against Indiana. So that is
- 53:56Speaker 3: my take on that game. We are just about ready
- 53:59Speaker 3: to close out the four o'clock hour here and then
- 54:02Speaker 3: as a little rundown what we got coming up inside
- 54:04Speaker 3: of the five o'clock hour. Of course, we will hear
- 54:06Speaker 3: from Bucky McMillan to kick off the hour, A and
- 54:09Speaker 3: M and Oklahoma two thirty tomorrow Atried Arena be there
- 54:13Speaker 3: and Pac Reid we will hit on the national Football
- 54:16Speaker 3: League as the playoffs for the NFL begin this weekend,
- 54:19Speaker 3: and then we will close the show with our police reports.
- 54:22Speaker 3: Of course, there will be no Cowboys report this hour
- 54:26Speaker 3: because they are eliminated as they usually are this time
- 54:29Speaker 3: of year. So that is yeah, surprise. So that's all
- 54:32Speaker 3: coming up inside the five o'clock hour. Stick around for that.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Producers Cooperative is open all day tomorrow from seven thirty
- 54:41Speaker 1: to five thirty. They're right there on Texas Avenue, a
- 54:45Speaker 1: little bit north of Highway twenty one. You can't miss them.

- 54:52Speaker 1: huge lawn and garden department, and they've got people on

- 55:04Speaker 1: at Producers. You can check online to see all the
- 55:07Speaker 1: things that they have going on at Producers Cooperative dot Com.
