- 0:00Speaker 1: See why let me ask you this, And I'm not
- 0:03Speaker 1: forgive me for doing this, but i want to ask
- 0:04Speaker 1: you because you and I have known each other a
- 0:07Speaker 1: long time. But I'm just wondering, on the other side
- 0:09Speaker 1: of the Timeout game, how did that impact you? How
- 0:12Speaker 1: did that change you? And what did it teach you? Well?
- 0:18Speaker 2: I always say this, EJ. If I had one game
- 0:21Speaker 2: to show my children, right and they never saw me
- 0:24Speaker 2: play or anything, I would show them the Timeout game
- 0:28Speaker 2: because that game I was the best player on the floor.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I led points and scoring and rebounding in others, and
- 0:34Speaker 2: I would show them how it doesn't matter that you
- 0:37Speaker 2: can have a great game and you can still lose.
- 0:40Speaker 2: And I would hope that their thought would be damn
- 0:44Speaker 2: Thatddy was that good and he continued to get better
- 0:47Speaker 2: after the worst moment. So I hope that's what it proves,
- 0:51Speaker 2: because it took a lot and a lot of wonderful
- 0:53Speaker 2: people around me to keep encouraging me. And you know,
- 0:56Speaker 2: luckily I was the number one pick right after and
- 1:00Speaker 2: things like that, But it was a difficult process right
- 1:03Speaker 2: after carling it because you feel lonely. You know what
- 1:06Speaker 2: you did? You know what others did you know? How
- 1:08Speaker 2: it could have gone. You're mad at God, you mad
- 1:10Speaker 2: at yourself, You're happy that you have another opportunity, you
- 1:14Speaker 2: know what I mean. It's just so many mixed emotions.
- 1:16Speaker 2: That one I'm proud of definitely how I handled it
- 1:21Speaker 2: after with my father, you know, having a father, knowing
- 1:24Speaker 2: you can't blame, take whatever rap they're going to give you,
- 1:27Speaker 2: and continue, you don't be bitter. And so Ernie, it's
- 1:30Speaker 2: been a you know, it's always a work in progress
- 1:32Speaker 2: to continue to try to get better, and so it
- 1:35Speaker 2: was tough going through that. And then you know, Chuck,
- 1:39Speaker 2: you kind of asked earlier, when did we know we
- 1:42Speaker 2: were rock stars? Well, one of the things that lets
- 1:45Speaker 2: you know rock stars is the validation of your peers.
- 1:48Speaker 2: And so a lot of NBA dudes reached out like,
- 1:51Speaker 2: oh man, worry about that, this is what you need
- 1:52Speaker 2: to do. You know, it was encouragement to get to
- 1:54Speaker 2: the next level. So EJ. I leaned on a lot
- 1:57Speaker 2: of people to get through it. And you know, I
- 2:02Speaker 2: wouldn't change I wouldn't change the thing. You know, there's
- 2:05Speaker 2: so many mistakes that we make in life. And what
- 2:07Speaker 2: I've learned is that how we define ourselves is really
- 2:11Speaker 2: how we handle our moments. And so for me, you know,
- 2:14Speaker 2: there's so many teams that were number one that you
- 2:17Speaker 2: definitely that you don't even remember.
- 2:19Speaker 1: That's a hell of an answer, man, it really is.
- 2:23Speaker 1: And I'm and I'm wondering, Jalen, try to take me
- 2:28Speaker 1: into that locker room after that game, and what did
- 2:30Speaker 1: you say to Chris?
- 2:32Speaker 3: So this is the amazing thing about team sports. It's
- 2:37Speaker 3: the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. And
- 2:41Speaker 3: what I really hate it was almost like when I
- 2:43Speaker 3: saw Kevin Johnson talking about Charles not having a ring
- 2:47Speaker 3: and people saying things to him about it. What I
- 2:50Speaker 3: really hate is I feel like I played my worst
- 2:54Speaker 3: game that night of all all season. I feel like
- 2:58Speaker 3: that was my personal worst game. So I was pissed
- 3:01Speaker 3: at myself. I wasn't even really even tripping on the
- 3:06Speaker 3: Timeouf situation. I clearly I was so mad at myself
- 3:10Speaker 3: about how I personally played, and so I didn't really digest,
- 3:18Speaker 3: you know, the gravity of people feeling like that cost
- 3:21Speaker 3: us the game. I felt like I cost us the game.
- 3:25Speaker 2: In my hit.
- 3:27Speaker 3: And so as it took place and we were leaving
- 3:31Speaker 3: and the media stuff happened, or whatever, And obviously I
- 3:34Speaker 3: saw how the media was responding to it. I always
- 3:37Speaker 3: appreciated Seawell's family and his parents. You know, they were
- 3:40Speaker 3: there for us, They were there for him. We was
- 3:43Speaker 3: obviously there for each other. And the funny thing is, truthfully,
- 3:47Speaker 3: and I don't know you remember the Seawell is when
- 3:50Speaker 3: you say rock Stars, Chuck, we lost the game, But
- 3:53Speaker 3: when we was walking to the club afterwards, everybody else
- 3:56Speaker 3: is waiting in line.
- 3:58Speaker 2: You know, we walk right in.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Yeah,
