- 2:13SPEAKER_03: Brennan and you we're all here.
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: How are you?
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, really good.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: Um had a good week.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: Um got relegated.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: Always a nice thing to finish it finishing playing in this year on.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, all good other than that.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Oh good.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: I've also had a good week.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Um we won against KZ.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: We're still uh my plan for making it to playoffs is still very much on.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Even though Kampong still won, I'm still uh a thousand percent convinced we're gonna make playoffs.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Um so yeah, I'm good.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Still very yeah, very optimistic about life in general.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm very well, thank you.
- 3:01SPEAKER_03: Had a had a fairly busy week of training and house decorating, garden decorating.
- 3:09SPEAKER_03: Probably not gonna get into that, but you know, it's been an okay week.
- 3:12SPEAKER_03: I was gonna ask Brendan straight away a follow-up question.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Is that your last top level hockey game ever?
- 3:20SPEAKER_03: Potentially.
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: Potentially, yeah.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: Um never say never.
- 3:29SPEAKER_02: Potentially.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: Um for a few years.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, which is kind of I don't know, I didn't really feel that sad about it, to be honest.
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: It was a bit weird.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: I think I was kind of like almost ready.
- 3:43SPEAKER_02: I think it's been a bit of time coming.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: Um my other question was just have you ever been relegated before in your career?
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, with Hallam with uni.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: You know that year that you left us?
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was a worrying.
- 4:01SPEAKER_02: That sounds familiar.
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: You know that year just high and dry in the Prem, went to a team where you went and did really well and you left us to get relegated.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that year.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: You doesn't need any more ammunition on me, so let's probably not bring that story up.
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: Um I was gonna say, I actually assume that you're gonna be.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: You met you let people start to love you and think, oh, oh, what a nice guy, and then surprise them.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, right in the dick.
- 4:36SPEAKER_03: Just to clarify, you just to tell you, I did three years at Y.
- 4:41SPEAKER_03: Always better that I get a nibble out of you, you start to defend yourself, or you have no reason to I'm gonna I'm gonna defend myself on this on this instance, is that I did three years at Sheffield, I finished my university.
- 4:54SPEAKER_03: I in that year we got promoted to the Premier League for the first time ever.
- 4:59SPEAKER_03: I was then offered a contract and I and I moved down south.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: It wasn't quite leaving them high and dry, but obviously I've got enough.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: Whether or not you had a much better offer on the table to somewhere else that's more successful.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: The point is you left us high and dry.
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's fair enough.
- 5:16SPEAKER_03: What I was gonna say, Brent, it would have made a really nice storyline that you've never been relegated before in your life, and then your last game ever is it's a relegation game.
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: It would have been made for a nice story, yeah.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: For Brendan or for everyone else.
- 5:29SPEAKER_03: Well, for me, it me and you made the you.
- 5:34SPEAKER_03: Oh I guess asking a serious question is how how how how was your final game?
- 5:40SPEAKER_03: Did you have any emotion, or did you have you just kind of accepted it?
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: Um, do you know what?
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: It was nice to know it's your last game.
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: It sounds really weird, like when the G with the GB stuff.
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: So when we played Oz in the Pro League, I had a weird feeling that it was gonna that was gonna be my last game for GB.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: Um prior to selection.
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: I kind of just had a feeling that was gonna be my last game, and like Maddie was there, and Mum and Dad were there.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: So that was kind of like a bit of letting everything just go a bit from a like chasing things point of view with like my career.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: Um, so then this what this time it was just about just going out and just having a bit of fun and kind of just enjoying myself.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: Um I had a I'd yeah, it was a really fun game whilst whilst it necessarily wasn't the best game of hockey.
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: Actually, it was quite a lot of fun because it was I don't know, I just didn't get any, didn't get down about any of it.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: I kind of just tried to just go out there and enjoy it.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: I don't think it'll be my last game, but I think it will be for a while.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: Well, top level maybe, but yeah, I don't know.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: I just kind of I didn't have any negative emotions towards it.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: I was kind of just sounds really weird, but I was just ready.
- 6:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean you just left a teaser for any news articles or or news stories willing to post videos, post uh post articles about Brendan Creed.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: He said it won't be my last game.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, Brendan Creed says the nice bit is it's like it it could be the last top level one, which I think was it's nice to go out on a win.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: They always say win your last game, hey.
- 7:12SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 7:13SPEAKER_03: And you you do you want to elaborate on your your weekend?
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: Um like you said, you're being incredibly optimistic about your playoff chances, two games to go at this point when we're recording.
- 7:28SPEAKER_03: Um still four points to drift.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and Kampong's playing the number 12.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Oh no, 12 and 10 of the league.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: Um as I said before, I think um the only uh the uh thing I want to adapt to like change is that I thought they were gonna draw against uh Pinot K and they won.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: It looked like a draw a long time.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: We actually went into the game, we played at four, kampong played it uh 245.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: We went into the game knowing Pinot K was up 2-0.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: So then all of a sudden, I was like, you'd see motherfuckers, I was right along, Kampong is gonna bottle it.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: And then for a long time it looked like they did, but then in pure Kampong fashion, they won 3-2.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: Um, but still, I think they're gonna lose 6-1 at Nijmegen, they're gonna completely be uh demolished by the number 12 out of sheer uh underestimate underestimation.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: And Sticks is just a nasty fucking team, they'll get it, they'll get a 0-0 there.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: Uh, we'll win 7-1 against uh uh Dan Bos uh this week and we'll win 1-0 in the extra time uh at HDM and make it into playoffs.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: That's my very realistic prediction.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: Beautiful.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: Again, but by the way, we won 4-4-1 against Kazette.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: Uh I I got into the field thinking, holy shit, if we win this game, it's only one point.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: And my my uh very realistic uh uh prediction will actually come through for once in my life.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: Um, and then at halftime I looked at my uh uh at Nono, our uh manager, and I was like, uh, what was the final score?
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: What's the final score?
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: Laughing a little bit, and he was like, You really want to know?
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: And then I I said, No, I don't think so, right?
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: He said they won 3-2.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: So second half of the game, I had like no energy.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: I was like, What the fuck am I doing on this field?
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: But then I got then we won after the game, and I was like, hey, you know what?
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: It's still going to happen.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Heads up, boys.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: We're going to playoffs.
- 9:38SPEAKER_03: Excellent monologue, as always, you know.
- 9:40SPEAKER_03: How was your game, Philly?
- 9:43SPEAKER_03: Um, we won our final game pre-playoffs against Wimbledon to claim the top spot.
- 9:50SPEAKER_03: So I think this recording will probably go out after it's happened, but we're going into the playoff and finals weekend this weekend.
- 10:00SPEAKER_03: Um where OGs are gonna play Oxted in the semi-final and Wimbledon are gonna play Serbiton in the winner winner, chicken dinner.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, in the other semi-final.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: Um we're pretty thrilled about our you know, finishing top.
- 10:21SPEAKER_03: Um, Holcombe and Hampstead, who who have been pretty strong all year, um failed to convert their phase three England hockey chances, which meant that Oxted Oxted have Oxted have made it.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: Um so we're gonna face Oxted as as heavy favourites.
- 10:38SPEAKER_03: Oxted are gonna come in as as underdogs and hope to hope to cause an upset.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, we had we played a pretty good game.
- 10:45SPEAKER_03: We were we were fairly fairly comfortable on the weekend, so pretty excited to uh to to get going.
- 10:52SPEAKER_03: You've got to fancy yourselves, haven't you?
- 10:55SPEAKER_03: Pardon?
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: You've got to fancy yourselves to win it all, haven't you?
- 10:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, of course.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: That's uh that's the goal.
- 11:02SPEAKER_03: You don't hide away from that when you're winning most of most of the weeks.
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: We we know that who whoever we play in the final, Wimbledon and Serbiton have both given us really good games, and it's been really tight all year.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: So um, and they also have like both of game-changing players, so pretty exciting.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Uh I don't know where that's it feel because I've never really had that, and maybe only people I know who've had that is like Dumble.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: How does it feel that you can only like lose it?
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: Can't really win it, you can only lose it.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: How does that feel?
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: Such a great question.
- 11:37SPEAKER_03: It is interesting.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: I think all year has been all year has been fairly enlightening to me because of the the fact that I've always played for teams where we're where we're good, and if we play our best, we will, you know, we have a chance of winning titles and competing with top teams.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: Um it's definitely been a little bit different this year when you when I find myself in games being a little like stand back and realize that we're really good and that it sometimes doesn't necessarily matter how I play, which I've never had before.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: Um my performance isn't isn't particularly relevant, and I think that's also been an interesting way to look at it.
- 12:15SPEAKER_03: But well, I haven't wanted to look at it like that, but getting motivated has been has been sometimes a little tricky.
- 12:21SPEAKER_03: But I think when you get to a finals weekend and you the pressure's there, but the pressure's only there from the inside, uh, to be honest.
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: And we all have complete confidence that we're that we're gonna win it.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: Um, and so you have to view it like that, I think.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: Have I answered your question though?
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, but it's fine.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: So it was a good it was a good answer, but not to my question.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: But well done to you.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: You wanted you to crumble at the question because he was basically trying to point out that you can only lose, even if you win it, you don't win, you just lose.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: That's you's point.
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: No, I understand that.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: I I I do think I haven't really given it that much thought about that, to be honest with you.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: But I liked your I liked your I liked your answer, Philip.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: Because I just to give the listeners some uh some intel and Brendan some intel.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: Uh Phil thought uh uh I was very uh uh rough with him last week, and uh says uh I only give Phil shit and that I'm not a nice guy towards Phil.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: So this week I'm going to try and I'm going to succeed in being very nice to my really good friend Philip, who I love dearly, but sometimes like it's tough love.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: So good luck in the playoffs, Philip.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: I know you're gonna win because you guys are awesome, and you are the best player England has ever had.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: Thanks, mate.
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: That feels genuine, really, really sincere and genuine.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: So I'll take that out and and to be honest, it'll make it the first part was the first part was the big you're not the best player I've ever seen, but you're really good.
- 13:51SPEAKER_03: Thanks, mate.
- 13:52SPEAKER_03: Um, I do think it'll be it'll be interesting when we can come back and sit in this room this time next week and we can debrief the games and uh I can give you the lowdown as to whether you can laugh at me for for us expecting to win it and we won't, or I'm sat here being happy because we we managed to to win the title.
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: But is it your first time winning the title?
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: I won it twice with Wimbledon.
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 14:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so you know it'd be but how many leagues have you won?
- 14:21SPEAKER_03: You two Brendan, how many have you won?
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: I'm on three.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: But one was a COVID one, so I don't know if that counts because we didn't do the playoffs, did we?
- 14:33SPEAKER_03: So realistically, two You know you may have been like we won three, if that was us.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: I like the idea that Phil, you have an opportunity to overtake both of us here.
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: That makes it more exciting.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: It speaks a lot to your character, Brendan, that you you say you only have two when you actually have three.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: I would claim the third very heavily.
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: Right, on to the main topic.
- 14:59SPEAKER_03: I've tasked Yup and Brendan with coming at me with uh with a one thing that they would change about hockey to make it better.
- 15:09SPEAKER_03: Um, I I have a feeling, and I think we've spoken about it plenty on the podcast, that hockey isn't always looking like forward-facing and it always feels like it's maybe falling short of its potential.
- 15:20SPEAKER_03: If we had to make radical changes to the game, what could we do?
- 15:25SPEAKER_03: Um I actually I actually typed this into chat GPT as to as to what they could do, and they gave some some really interesting answers, which I can potentially get to, but before I do, I'm probably talking too much, so I'll let Brendan because I know he's done his research, he's excited to share his share his thoughts.
- 15:47SPEAKER_03: I've got two.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: I don't know how you feel about the two.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: One's looking from a player perspective, and one's looking from a hockey moving forward perspective.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: So my first one, and I I genuinely believe this needs to change.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: Um, so as we all know, hockey at the top level isn't for life.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: I've written it all out, so I'll I'll read it exactly how I've written it.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: Um, hockey at the top level isn't for life, and it isn't paid enough to live off for the rest of your life, right?
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: I think there needs to be more attempts made by clubs to integrate club members and have and basically understand more about their own club members to be able to offer more to players coming in.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: So, what I mean by that is normally when a player joins, if you're a higher-level player, you basically get offered a contract to play for cash.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: And then if you want to do something else, you coach for cash, right?
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: But all that happens is a player will come for one, two years, and then they'll move on to the next best thing or move on to the next city, this, that, and the other.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: Um, I think what needs to happen is clubs need to start finding out what athletes actually want to do post-career and actually find them, help them find a job that sets them up for longer than two, three years and actually sets them up for like a five, six, seven yearslash may never leave.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: And I've I fundamentally believe that this needs to become a thing for clubs to give players the opportunity to actually stay in the area and give back to the community rather than just buy into the club, actually buy into the town they're in.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: Um can I can I um um uh say something about this?
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: Go on.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: I I think I I like the uh I think this is a very good uh you don't just say I completely misunderstood this assignment.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: I thought more in very other lines.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: This is like how to how we can generate more money.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: I thought more about how can we make this shit more fun to watch and stuff.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you um that was my direction.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: Shall I get my idea real quick?
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: Then we can then we can talk shit about Brandon's idea.
- 18:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you go.
- 18:01SPEAKER_02: You okay?
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: This it's very quick, bitch.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: Very quick.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: I was thinking more.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: From now on, helmets are uh are mandatory, and you can actually uh uh uh the the high ball rule, uh uh dangerous play and shit will now uh be gone.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: So you can hit the ball from wherever you like.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: Uh you'll be protect protected just a bit more.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: It's it goes more along the lines of ice hockey on grass, with like still you can you can wear whatever you want.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: Uh the more you wear, the less mobile you are, the less you wear, the less protected you are.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: Uh, and you can just start uh also like give give shoulder bumps and shit.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: Um uh so it will be like more um uh like ice hockey, like a hybrid between ice hockey and normal normal hockey, and we call it ex-hockey, extreme hockey, and it's more like uh it tough you up a bit.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: Uh also the benefits that we in the gym we do a bit more upper belly, so I don't look like a complete uh uh like an asparagus, um like shit like that.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: I was thinking more along those lives, Brent.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: I think yours is way more like how can we make club hockey more interesting and more durable?
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: I was thinking how can we make it less durable but more fun?
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: You I you just described hurling.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was thinking like a like a mix between uh what's the uh lacrosse and uh hockey.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, hurling.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: It's only a sport in Ireland.
- 19:36SPEAKER_03: No, I well I I understand, I mean you you've put it on steroids, but I understand your point is that you could you could make something fairly entertaining out of out of that, but it would be like it'd be like a hockey fives like like it'd be a different version of the game.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: That's what you're saying.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: No, same game, just put on a helmet and be a bit more physical.
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: So sho shoulder pads, helmet, yeah, and scrap normal hockey, that's the only option we've got.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: No, like only a helmet.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Some some like some like tailbones and shit will get shattered, but that's just the risk of the game.
- 20:15SPEAKER_03: I don't feel like you've put as much thought into it as Brendan did.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: But but Brendan, I don't feel like you understood my question correctly.
- 20:22SPEAKER_03: So I don't really know where to go from here.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: Let's but let's pick up Brendan's point because it's because it's it's I I have I have another couple in right in the chamber, but just that was just to to to illustrate what what direction I went with and what direction Brendan went with.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: Let's go to Brendan.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: How about that?
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: So you wanna you just you don't want to change nothing about the game, but you just want to make sure that that guys actually think about their career, stuff that's already happening in Holland.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: I get it.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: I think both.
- 20:52SPEAKER_03: Is this it was this a UK-based thing, Brendan?
- 20:54SPEAKER_03: Or were you thinking about it?
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: Well, well, it's a bit of both, like, because it doesn't happen as much as you think it does in like Holland Jeep.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: Like people players do go and they don't get a job.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: Some do, some don't.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: Do you know what I mean?
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: I don't think it should be an option though.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: I don't think it's an option that you don't, I think it should be an option that should be enforced.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: I think athletes get to a point where they're they're coming to the end of careers and they still don't know what they want to do or have explored what they might want to do.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: You could say it's not an option, you want to force people to work.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: I'm saying I'm not saying they have to work, but I'm saying they need to explore like what life is like after playing.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: And some do, some don't.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: But the problem is half the time.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: In order to explore that, and then in order to explore it, they have to start working to explore it, right?
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: Or at least have a heavy think about it with like a careers advisor or something.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: I feel like, Brent.
- 21:46SPEAKER_03: You're you're taking away choice as like what if someone's training to become a doctor and they go and play hockey on the side?
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: Do that do they have to do they have to um no because they do open things?
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: Do you know what I mean?
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: I'm more thinking.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: For people who genuinely just play hockey, that's it.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: There needs to be a plan.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: So if you're a but okay.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there needs to be a plan.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: My other thinking, and this was the other idea, was and I know it happens in Holland already, but the UK need to do it, is we need to stop putting prices on people going to watch games of hockey on the weekend.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: I can't get my head around people going to watch games and paying a fiver, six quid or whatever it is to go and watch a game of hockey, Premier League hockey, when you might as well make it free and put a markup on food or something.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: So then at least you improve supporters' experience.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: Because I can't get my head around going to Prem games.
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: Like, for example, the game at Richmond on the weekend, there was maybe 12, maybe 13 people there watching the game for the last game of the season on a Saturday evening at 6 p.m.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: What's the what's the fucking point?
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: There is no viewer experience, there is fuck all there.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: Honestly, I was like, I was I genuinely in the warm-up started laughing because I was like, this is the state of hockey in England.
- 23:00SPEAKER_02: This is the state of hockey in England.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but not paying for it is is not the answer.
- 23:05SPEAKER_03: No, no, no.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm saying is in just it in but my point is more just improving viewer experience, like supporters experience.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: Like there is no majority of clubs, I don't think there's much attempt to make experience good for supporters.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: I do want to say, Brendan, from the bottom of my heart, I really, I really love you, but I feel like you're very you you you approach this from a very ish uh perspective.
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: I but I feel like you've if you've never if you've ever met Brendan, I feel like I've got into a to a real Zen mindset with you two now because I set you a task and I and I pretty much know that you will not do it, and Brendan will take it in his own direction that that has no relevance to what I asked.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: What I will say, you what I will say, yeah, is one you'd you would a hundred percent agree with the two things I've raised if you had a season in England, you would a hundred percent agree with it because you'd get pissed off when there's 12 people watching.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: Hold on.
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: Secondly, secondly, if we're talking about take changing rules, I would bin off corners and I would just have one-on-ones.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: I'd just bin off corners and have shoot out, straight shoot out.
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: It's quicker, more enjoyable.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: That's groundbreaking, Brent.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Now, now you're getting short.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: That's the that's the direction I wanted to go in.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: Um uh to be honest, just to quick act on your point, uh, I have never been more intrigued to come play in England as I've been in the last two years.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: I really want to like uh the Oxstad Chicklin is what got me uh got me somewhat like curious.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: Uh the the the footage of of games, how shit it looks, made me intrigued.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: Now I'm very like enticed even after hearing there's 13 people watching.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: I want to and I want to experience that kind of shit.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: So don't get me wrong, I love to play, but I want to play in the current state.
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: I don't want it to be all professional shit because I love the the amateurism, and I like the idea of the one-on-one's.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: I had Phil before you go on your chat GPT little thing because you say you prepared shit, you just put it in chat GPT.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: That's not preparation, let's be honest.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: Don't don't get up itchy, it's it's a joke.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: But but also in long life, how can you make hockey as a general thing better?
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: Is that we start having tournaments in like rogue places, like get getting like let people know now only tournaments are in India, Holland, or Spain or Germany, whatever.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: There's not like a tournament in let's say we go to fucking Zimbabwe or something, like somewhere they don't play like a lot of hockey, you know what I mean?
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: Like but like really good tour tournaments.
- 25:48SPEAKER_03: I keep telling you this, but you don't have to put your hand up.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: You my uh the tournament that I'll be working at in the summer is in Uruguay.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's that's the shit where we are like, and now they're going to watch two shit teams play, and no one thinks, oh, that's fun.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: You gotta watch some good teams play.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: I think, oh, this actually looks kind of fun.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:08SPEAKER_03: So you're saying, but I think this was actually something that I read, is that actually moving hockey around to like mainstream big countries who have good media coverage and broadcasting rights could actually be something.
- 26:23SPEAKER_03: I mean, can you imagine playing a top-level game in New York City?
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: Unbelievable.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: I I mean, my point is slightly different and probably better than yours, you but um probably, but probably because you thought about it and I didn't, and it's impressive how how quickly I come up with this fucking bolt.
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: Is you need to like uh uh uh put some marketing around it and put it in like a big big ass fucking city and like make it spectacular as shit, and a Netflix documentary.
- 26:53SPEAKER_03: Well, that's a little bit what they've done for rugby sevens, isn't it?
- 26:57SPEAKER_03: They they made it so that you went to uh you know, I th I don't know how many cities it is, it might be seven, but they go to the seven big biggest cities over the course of their season and they play huge events where all the teams are there.
- 27:10SPEAKER_03: So I mean, first of all, nice.
- 27:13SPEAKER_03: That is that is a a good point.
- 27:16SPEAKER_03: I think um before we get onto the AI stuff, um my my idea will that I've spoken about with a couple of people, which is a bit of a problem um logistically, but I think that it makes hockey more exciting is bigger goals.
- 27:37SPEAKER_03: Right now that sounds simple and like I haven't thought about it, but I think I want less star power from the goalies, and I want more star power through goals.
- 27:48SPEAKER_03: So you keep the D, but you just make the goals maybe a couple of feet bigger.
- 27:54SPEAKER_03: Automatically, we're talking a couple more goals a game, and uh therefore hockey gets a little bit more exciting, taller as well, just wider, yeah.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean look at a football goal, I think that's a pretty good idea.
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: Like, I'm not suggesting that we make it a football goal, but I'm saying if you stand in a football goal, it is ridiculously big, and they have to try and save the ball in that.
- 28:17SPEAKER_03: I know the ball's bigger, I understand that.
- 28:20SPEAKER_03: But my point would be could you make it?
- 28:23SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's a logistical nightmare, but if all the goals were bigger, I think it'd make hockey more exciting, I think they made the product better.
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: Um, could you also make the ball bigger?
- 28:33SPEAKER_03: Again, makes viewership better.
- 28:36SPEAKER_03: Um look, I'm I'm not we're not talking about making small shit.
- 28:39SPEAKER_03: What you're saying is size matters.
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, David Brent, we aren't talking to you.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: Um Bill, do you know what?
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: Goal bigger, ball the same size.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: I'm on board with I like that.
- 28:55SPEAKER_02: I don't want to make the ball bigger because I think that's I think that only brings back the goalkeepers in again.
- 29:00SPEAKER_02: I don't want that.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: I like how just we'll just raise something here.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: How about no goalkeepers?
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: Just get rid of the fuckers.
- 29:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but that's not exciting because you just score loads of open goals.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's all that stupid.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but it will develop.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's say no goalkeepers, no goadies, but the ball gets just like a little bit softer.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: So once you get hit, it hurts, but like not like like it's in between a tennis ball and a hockey ball.
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: What I love about you, you is is your listening skills are really tricky, um uh to to to to track down, um, and you often go off on tangents.
- 29:46SPEAKER_03: So, what I'd like to do before we start talking about the bigger ball and the no goalie is that what do you think of this idea, and then we can get on to the improving this idea.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: And I'm also going to can I mean can we go on to you's point of the softer ball?
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: Well, corners are still a thing, aren't they?
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: So, what's the point in a softer ball?
- 30:09SPEAKER_02: That you just you're more likely to give away a corner because you get whacked by a tennis ball every now and then.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: We also corners anymore.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: I think I think it's a fairly good idea of bigger goals.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: Um I think it's a fairly good.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: The only problem is already like um how do I say this?
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: Like let's say a penalty corner.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: Goalies already only have to cover like a third of the goal anymore.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: Uh if it's like in the middle, it's not their ball, and it's not it's not their fault anymore.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: How do you see how do you see that happening?
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: I think the corner will like increase massively because yeah, you can have like three castles in the goalie.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 30:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, true, true.
- 30:56SPEAKER_03: But I think this is the thing, is that then it would reinvent how you think about corners, and maybe the fact that you don't have to, you know, it's not as boring anymore.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: I think that would get on to Brennan's point about the safety and also like getting rid of corners.
- 31:12SPEAKER_03: Is that I I do I fundamentally don't think corners are exciting anymore.
- 31:15SPEAKER_03: It would make people rethink how to defend corners, and it wouldn't just be the goalie having to defend a third of the goal.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: Let's you know what?
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: Let's have a break and talk about it after the break.
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, so we're back.
- 31:34SPEAKER_00: Um Phil Phil just left real quick, so uh that's why we're picking it up.
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: You guys know how how that works with me and Brent.
- 31:43SPEAKER_00: Um so I actually came up with like the idea of like a softer ball, and first uh uh Phil and Ben started laughing.
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: Now they've they're also baffled by my genius, and Phil has actually taken uh uh a bigger, softer ball.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, Phil, go ahead.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: What did you want to say about my genius idea?
- 32:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so now that we're we're feeling like we're getting somewhere, and the listeners are gonna be like, these three morons, but what what what we're doing is just spit ball in and we're making radical changes.
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: That's what we've talked about.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: We're not we're not going we're not going small with this stuff.
- 32:20SPEAKER_03: Is that I thought with the bigger goal, you you could have a bigger ball.
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: You talk about it.
- 32:25SPEAKER_03: This is I've been playing in the garden with my son, um, and we use a Brendan.
- 32:32SPEAKER_03: What's this?
- 32:33SPEAKER_03: It's a it's like a quick sticks, they have a thing, quick sticks ball, yeah.
- 32:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and so it's a new version of hockey they do for like kids or beginners where the ball's slightly bigger and lighter, and so it's probably about double the size.
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: Um, but it's it is easy to dribble with, maybe a little bit easier, but also you can whack it, and it's probably not as dangerous.
- 32:56SPEAKER_03: So you might be on something, you was my thought by getting a prop.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: I was thinking more along the lines of like a bouncy ball.
- 33:06SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 33:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't know, so like you need to get hit, you need to be allowed to get hit, where it's like it's we're going back to we're going back to your idea, but the problem is when when you start making it bouncy, you can't dribble anymore because the the the ball again.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking about the texture of a bounce so that it like when you get hit by it, it's like oh fuck, that hurts, it's gonna leave a stain, but it's not like ah end of the game.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it's riding that soft spot off it gets it gets less dangerous, but it gets more funny.
- 33:46SPEAKER_02: Do you not think that'd be a good format of like hockey fives but with a tennis ball?
- 33:52SPEAKER_02: Do you not think that would be good?
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: No.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: I just want to tell this more Brendan.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: I don't think this if this is where we've got to be like a cage, do you know what do you know what I mean though?
- 34:05SPEAKER_02: Like a cage version of hockey where it'd be like four or five aside with a tennis ball where you're just whacking the ball.
- 34:10SPEAKER_02: You've point the only the only uh like foul is like a stick tackle, for example, but like just whacking a tennis ball around a cage.
- 34:18SPEAKER_02: You did it as a kid, it's a lot of fun.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: That's good.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: You get and you you get to fight a shit.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: Like an ice hockey, you take off your red glove and start fighting each other.
- 34:32SPEAKER_03: I like the idea of the cage.
- 34:33SPEAKER_03: I still think the dribbling is the problem.
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: No, no, no.
- 34:42SPEAKER_03: I'm not thinking it's about me.
- 34:44SPEAKER_03: I'm saying I'm saying how what are you meant to say are you just literally whacking the ball about like ice hockey?
- 34:49SPEAKER_03: No, because they can dribble ice hockey, they're good at dribbling.
- 34:51SPEAKER_02: You can dribble with a tennis ball.
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: Brendan, you can't dribble with a normal hockey ball.
- 34:57SPEAKER_03: How are you gonna dribble with a tennis ball?
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: So exactly, so you must be able to dribble with a tennis ball.
- 35:02SPEAKER_03: Right, so what we've said if we promote radical changes to hockey, is we're gonna make the goal bigger, we're gonna make it a tennis ball, we're gonna have helmets on and all the all the gear.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: You want to start fighting and go in a cage.
- 35:22SPEAKER_03: Is that is that?
- 35:23SPEAKER_02: And we're taking away corners and bringing in shuffles just straight off.
- 35:27SPEAKER_03: Well, shoot out to be ridiculous then, because you can't again, you'd just be going in and whacking the ball.
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: No, no, I'm not talking about with the double-sized goal.
- 35:36SPEAKER_02: I thought that was just the single-size goal.
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I'm I'm thinking we're getting a bit, but let's just stop working with two idiots.
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: No, kidding.
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: But it's it's the ball has to be like still the ball.
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: It's not like a tennis ball, it has the structure of a hockey ball, which is like a street hockey ball.
- 35:56SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 35:57SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: I think what we've got to now is is something that people are listening to and wondering why they're listening to it.
- 36:05SPEAKER_03: So what started off as a as a real topic has gone to absolute mayhem, which is which is sometimes good, but maybe we've got to bring it back at level.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: Because you try and bring it and level it down, Philip.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: Come on.
- 36:19SPEAKER_02: Have you ever seen the film basketball?
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: A street game that people get by into and then suddenly it becomes major league.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: That's what we've that's what we're thinking right now.
- 36:32SPEAKER_02: Double-sized goal in a cage with a softer hockey ball, uh, goalkeepers less power, no shootout, class.
- 36:41SPEAKER_02: I'm in.
- 36:42SPEAKER_00: You're really you're you're really on the cage thing here, Brendan.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: That's like you're saying.
- 36:47SPEAKER_03: I mean, I said that was a joke, Brendan, and and it it speaks a lot to your mind that you've took that and run with it.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: I think the cage is an idea.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: I think you would-logistically as well.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: Like they don't think it's very Dutch.
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: If they need to get cages on every hockey pitch, I think the hockey sport will be will be will be bankrupt.
- 37:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but the cage is like a basketball cage.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: Do you know what I mean?
- 37:10SPEAKER_02: Like a basketball court cage, that kind of cage is what I'm talking about.
- 37:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but that doesn't that doesn't solve the problem.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: No, it makes it more accessible, Phil.
- 37:22SPEAKER_03: Right, to bring it back to some normality.
- 37:26SPEAKER_03: I did I did type this this into AI to see what what they would say.
- 37:33SPEAKER_03: And here's what they said here's what hockey is missing to become more marketable.
- 37:37SPEAKER_03: So some of the stuff we have spoke about media coverage and broadcasting.
- 37:41SPEAKER_03: So that's we talked about matches are rarely televised outside major tournaments like the Olympics or the World Cup.
- 37:47SPEAKER_03: So they basically need to fix it by making better TV deals, live streaming partnerships, and highlight-focused content.
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: Does that sound good to you guys?
- 37:57SPEAKER_02: That's something we've talked about for a long time.
- 37:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:01SPEAKER_03: Star power and personalities.
- 38:06SPEAKER_02: No, you're not personality and you're not star power.
- 38:09SPEAKER_02: Phil, next one.
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: Rules simplification and viewer education.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: The rules like the obstruction of self-passed are nuanced and hard for casual viewers to understand.
- 38:23SPEAKER_03: The fix they say use broadcast graphics and explainers to help new fans follow the game more easily.
- 38:31SPEAKER_02: If I hear the phrase, for any new fans, when the ball hits a foot in the in the D, it's a short quarter.
- 38:38SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna lose my fucking mind.
- 38:41SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 38:44SPEAKER_02: It infuriates me every time.
- 38:46SPEAKER_02: I don't understand why they do it, but it infuriates me every single game it comes on within the first five minutes if someone wins a corner or something.
- 38:54SPEAKER_00: That's that's that's like that's the only way to explain a rule is to explain.
- 39:00SPEAKER_02: Oh, you don't be on the closet now.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: I'm net.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: I'm just I'm just don't get if you want new people to watch and you you don't want to explain the rules.
- 39:09SPEAKER_00: How how do you think they'll understand the game, Brendan?
- 39:12SPEAKER_02: Hence why I said I understand why they do it, it just infuriates me.
- 39:15SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 39:16SPEAKER_03: The the last three is more goals and flashier play.
- 39:18SPEAKER_03: We just kind of covered that.
- 39:19SPEAKER_03: Club level professional leagues, let's not get Brendan on that, and cultural perceptions.
- 39:24SPEAKER_03: So then I asked it to make what to make field hockey more marketable and engaging, especially for new fans or TV audiences, some well-targeted rule changes.
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: What what targeted rule changes could be made?
- 39:36SPEAKER_03: So they told about widen the goal or shrink the goalkeeper pads, allow controlled use of the back stick, simplify the aerial and obstruction rule, introduce a power play system, golden goal or shootout, and a shot clock for penalty corners.
- 39:56SPEAKER_03: Are any of them standing out to you?
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think the power play thing has been something that's been spoken about quite a lot.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: Like if you uh I think also uh that's very American that there's no draws.
- 40:10SPEAKER_00: I think that's a good thing.
- 40:12SPEAKER_00: I think overtime is a really good like um like thing, but in I think the power play should also be in overtime.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: So as soon as it's a draw, 60 minutes, you play another five minutes with two men down.
- 40:27SPEAKER_00: If it's still a draw, another two men down, make the field fucking big.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: Mayhem people get fucking shit shit faced and they're fucking uh uh exhausted, but that makes the game fun.
- 40:37SPEAKER_00: It's when like the level drops, which makes it way more fun to watch.
- 40:42SPEAKER_03: I agree.
- 40:43SPEAKER_03: I think that is a top idea.
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: I actually think that's a really good idea, and I think I do think that like you could you could run with that and it wouldn't actually make the it's not dramatic, but it would make uh it would make viewership you'd be so excited about that.
- 40:57SPEAKER_00: 100%.
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: Because those are the games you want to watch, probably.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: It's not 11v11.
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: Let's say there's been four red cards in a game, never happens, but as soon as you see that on a YouTube video, you think, oh, what does that look like?
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna watch.
- 41:14SPEAKER_00: It's intriguing.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: Or the or the power players, no goalkeepers.
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: Back to you's point of no goalies, so that in that in that overtime phase, you just play when you power players, no goalkeeper, or whether you want to use that way one way or the other, either take theirs off or take yours off and have an extra outfielder.
- 41:36SPEAKER_00: Another one spitballing, just throwing something at you guys.
- 41:40SPEAKER_00: There is goalies, but it's uh like the the chat uh chat GPT thing.
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: But goalies have less protection, but have like more uh um uh they're like more in play.
- 41:53SPEAKER_00: So let's say they do have so they they're able to hold their sticks in their stick in two hands.
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: Uh they're also able to like grip it loose and then still be able to goalie, if that makes sense, but they're like an 11th player.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: So it's but instead of 11v11, it becomes 10v10.
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: Well, one of the guys is like a like a flying goalie.
- 42:11SPEAKER_02: It's the old kicking back, isn't it?
- 42:13SPEAKER_02: That we used to have when they used to put the bib on, they had goalkeeper privileges and they could slide tackle and do all that side of stuff.
- 42:20SPEAKER_00: Why are you now it's wrecking?
- 42:26SPEAKER_03: I just think that's a terrible idea.
- 42:28SPEAKER_03: I don't think that improves hockey at all.
- 42:30SPEAKER_03: Like, I was really excited about the power play, and they start talking about some goalie hybrid, and I I've lost again.
- 42:41SPEAKER_03: Can I make a complete can I make a complete segue, a complete sidetrack?
- 42:47SPEAKER_03: Is that I know you two are gonna be like, I've got a problem, but I still think if you if you put a betting stand on every pro league uh venue and you put a betting stand on every um major tournament, I do think people would be more engaged.
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: I think about where when it comes back to all sport, I still think that people only go to horse racing to bet.
- 43:12SPEAKER_03: People get so interested in like fantasy football and um betting uh an accumulator on the football on the weekend, which naturally makes you want to turn the TV on and watch a game.
- 43:24SPEAKER_03: And I think it's such a huge part of our culture, especially in England.
- 43:28SPEAKER_03: I don't know how big it is in the Netherlands, but like it it would just I think it would make a shift and and 100%.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 43:36SPEAKER_00: No, a hundred percent, I agree.
- 43:38SPEAKER_00: No, I agree.
- 43:38SPEAKER_02: I just think Phil's got a problem.
- 43:41SPEAKER_00: A betting problem.
- 43:43SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, not a betting problem, more the fact that he wants to be betting more.
- 43:48SPEAKER_02: I think that's the issue.
- 43:49SPEAKER_02: Not that he does bet a lot, more that he wants to do it more.
- 43:52SPEAKER_00: I think it would be very encouraging it more and more.
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but it would be very good if you could like bet and you could like make loads of money with it, and if people get the whiff.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Of it, you know what you know what sport you can get a lot of money with is if you just bet on uh the amount of penalty corners in a game, like shit like that.
- 44:08SPEAKER_00: You need to be more like bets available instead of just the score, also like amount of penalty corners, amount of cards, amount of uh uh uh shoots being made, or like shit like that.
- 44:20SPEAKER_03: I I agree, but I just thought the referee fucks up.
- 44:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I did think that like if you were going and and maybe it's it's super old school now, but if you are walking into Lee Valley and there's and there's a little stand on the side as everyone's entering the thing, and it's basically just like bets on, and it's got like a a boost on Sam Ward to score first.
- 44:43SPEAKER_03: People are having it, people are like, Well, let's go and have a little dabble.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: 100%.
- 44:48SPEAKER_02: 100%.
- 44:49SPEAKER_02: I I do agree.
- 44:50SPEAKER_02: I think it would improve, and it would also imagine the hostility on the crowd if you were if you bet on like, for example, I don't know, Liam Sanford to score first and England to win 1-0, and he scores in the four fourth minute.
- 45:02SPEAKER_02: You can imagine the scenes in that place.
- 45:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I agree.
- 45:07SPEAKER_03: So that's the other thing that I was I was I was pretty pretty.
- 45:10SPEAKER_03: I would like to.
- 45:11SPEAKER_03: I mean, I don't I don't think you could make it mandatory, but I think that people would get behind it.
- 45:18SPEAKER_03: I agree.
- 45:20SPEAKER_03: I like I mean, that's a good one.
- 45:22SPEAKER_03: We don't often do this anymore, but listeners, if if you've got any really good radical changes, running radical ideas for how hockey can improve, it's viewership, it's it's inclusivity, it's just improving anyway.
- 45:37SPEAKER_03: Hey, you let us know, and we'll we'll either, as we always do here, agree with it or tear it to shreds.
- 45:44SPEAKER_03: Um shall we move it on?
- 45:48SPEAKER_02: I think so.
- 45:50SPEAKER_03: You you said that you have a coop for the week, so uh we can do you want to enter the coop now?
- 45:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, sure.
- 46:02SPEAKER_00: Um it's like it's two and one has nothing to do with hockey, and the other one I'm still like thinking I'm gonna ask it.
- 46:11SPEAKER_00: The first one is if you could time travel, would you travel to the past or to the future?
- 46:21SPEAKER_02: I think I'd travel to the future.
- 46:25SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 46:26SPEAKER_02: Because if I don't like it, I'd like to know what I'd change to make sure it didn't happen, and if I did like it, I'd like to then come back and then live it.
- 46:39SPEAKER_00: How far are you traveling?
- 46:40SPEAKER_00: How do you Okay but so but now let's say you travel to the future and you like it?
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: How do you know you do not change your behaviour?
- 46:52SPEAKER_02: Because you can you can see what you've done, the decisions you've made to get there, do you know what I mean?
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: You can you can only travel to a certain time.
- 47:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so you can still see it, you can still see it off the back of.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: Surely we are we commenting on Brendan's or talking about myself?
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yourself.
- 47:21SPEAKER_03: Um if I'm really honest, I'd be scared to go to the future, so I probably wouldn't do that.
- 47:27SPEAKER_03: I'd probably just go back to a cool time.
- 47:31SPEAKER_00: What time would you go to?
- 47:34SPEAKER_03: Probably wasn't that many cool times.
- 47:36SPEAKER_03: How do how long do I have to go for?
- 47:39SPEAKER_01: Probably wasn't so many cool times.
- 47:47SPEAKER_02: Your wedding day?
- 47:48SPEAKER_02: Birth of your child?
- 47:50SPEAKER_02: Both of either child.
- 47:54SPEAKER_03: Brendan, you're so you're so like, I feel like you're living within this.
- 47:57SPEAKER_03: It's like you could travel 200 years in the future.
- 48:01SPEAKER_02: Oh, fuck it.
- 48:02SPEAKER_02: The day Hitler died, fuck it.
- 48:11SPEAKER_03: On that note, boys.
- 48:13SPEAKER_03: Brendan, I've got a quick coop question before you go.
- 48:16SPEAKER_03: Okay, I'm ready.
- 48:18SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 48:18SPEAKER_03: You've got to defend a halfway one-on-one against me or you for£10,000.
- 48:28SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 48:29SPEAKER_03: If we have a shot on target, you don't get the£10,000.
- 48:36SPEAKER_03: If we don't, you get it.
- 48:40SPEAKER_03: Who are you taking?
- 48:41SPEAKER_03: Who are you taking out of me and Yupe?
- 48:42SPEAKER_02: What happens if it's a corner?
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: Does that count as a shot on target, basically?
- 48:46SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 48:46SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 48:47SPEAKER_02: Uh I honestly don't know because one of you is going to turn me inside out and one of you's just going to run past me.
- 48:52SPEAKER_02: So I've got to choose the lesser of two evils, so I've got to choose you.
- 48:56SPEAKER_02: Because at least I can run in a straight line to the edge of the D and just slide.
- 49:01SPEAKER_02: He's actually pissed off right now.
- 49:04SPEAKER_02: Well, I already know that if you rope ropes, if you ask you, he's gonna say me.
- 49:08SPEAKER_02: And I know if you pass you, you're gonna say me.
- 49:10SPEAKER_02: So either way, it's not looking good for me.
- 49:16SPEAKER_00: Well, like let's look, let's look at this question objectively, Brent.
- 49:21SPEAKER_00: Like Phil would will if it's a if it's a if it's a breakout from the midline, you said, right?
- 49:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's just you just start from the halfway line.
- 49:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the way Phil's body is these days, you might not make it to the 25, actually.
- 49:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think you answered the wrong.
- 49:36SPEAKER_00: I think you have a better chance against Phil.
- 49:39SPEAKER_00: Because he will take you not on speed, but like just on trying to go through your shit.
- 49:44SPEAKER_00: And chances are you just ball away once and Phil's chance is over.
- 49:48SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's it.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: I'll just do my just one little body fake and start running into space, get into the corner of the D, flick it towards the goal, and it's a shot on goal.
- 49:57SPEAKER_00: I think is Phil the better one-on-one player?
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: Probably.
- 50:01SPEAKER_00: Is he got is his does he have a better technique and like eliminate you in the tight spaces?
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: 100%.
- 50:07SPEAKER_00: But I think just run-on-one, big space.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: I think I have the edge on him.
- 50:13SPEAKER_03: I actually I actually couldn't I couldn't agree more.
- 50:16SPEAKER_03: Well, why didn't you two just answer the question for me?
- 50:19SPEAKER_03: Because I was intrigued about about whether you'd actually we've got to test you a little bit.
- 50:23SPEAKER_03: We gotta like poke the bear a little bit.
- 50:27SPEAKER_03: I I I wanted to test you, Brendan, and if you'd actually think about it.
- 50:31SPEAKER_03: I've clearly failed.
- 50:33SPEAKER_03: And on that note, I'm bowing out, right?
- 50:36SPEAKER_03: See you, Brendan.
- 50:37SPEAKER_03: We're Brendan's gotta go, so we'll see him next week.
- 50:40SPEAKER_02: Bye guys.
- 50:44SPEAKER_03: Oh, good thing he left, eh?
- 50:48SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 50:49SPEAKER_03: You have you what's your next coop question?
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: To be honest, I got a little bit um uh what's the what's the word?
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: Baffled by your uh by by yours, because that's a really good one.
- 51:01SPEAKER_00: It's like the area I love to go in.
- 51:05SPEAKER_03: We we were having the conversation today is like if you if you could have three shots, oh this is a good one for you.
- 51:12SPEAKER_03: I don't know if they listen.
- 51:13SPEAKER_03: Oh Maya listens right.
- 51:16SPEAKER_03: You've got three shots where you run in and take a shot right from the top of the D against uh your three goalies uh around your hockey, so Vissa, Maya, and yeah.
- 51:30SPEAKER_03: Um again, you get£10,000 if you score one of them.
- 51:37SPEAKER_03: Who are you shooting against?
- 51:42SPEAKER_00: You can choose.
- 51:47SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 51:48SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna I'm gonna answer this question very truthfully, but also very uh dodging the question, really, because the question you want and know is who's the shittest goalie out of the three, uh and that's not the case.
- 51:59SPEAKER_00: I think it's more a question about whether I can produce three shots on goal.
- 52:05SPEAKER_00: One of them is going right for sure, or like pop it, hit it over the bar, like something like that.
- 52:11SPEAKER_00: Uh one of them will be hit in the sweet spot, but again, the question will be will it be on goal?
- 52:16SPEAKER_00: I don't think it will matter who the goalie is.
- 52:18SPEAKER_00: I think I have a I'm very I'm very like you in golf in this kind of shit.
- 52:22SPEAKER_00: I'm very streaky.
- 52:23SPEAKER_00: I've I have trainings in which I seem to can't miss, and I think, oh, I really missed my purpose of being an attacking midfielder or a striker.
- 52:31SPEAKER_00: And there's a lot of trainings in which I think I'm Brandon, I can't hit a ball goal.
- 52:37SPEAKER_00: So um or Philip, because you also can't really hit a ball and goal, to be honest.
- 52:41SPEAKER_00: So I think I'm uh I'm it doesn't really matter who the goal is.
- 52:46SPEAKER_00: I think he won't have a chance at one of the shots if I if I if it's like that one in a one in one in a one in a ten ball, which I hit sweet spot and will be unsavable.
- 52:55SPEAKER_00: Um I think either three will like take the amount of like will take the same amount of balls because one will be just unstoppable and the other two will be like a six-year-old child hit it.
- 53:06unknown: Yes.
- 53:08SPEAKER_03: No, but it's well answered because I completely understand.
- 53:11SPEAKER_00: We started doing some training recently where it's like if I had to choose if I had to choose it's Drake Mayor, of course I don't know, I'll just score three with him.
- 53:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, solid answer.
- 53:21SPEAKER_03: I think the only reason I started thinking about this was we we started doing some like we did a drill where we were doing some high speed running into the ensuing, and you realise you can you like you said, I I really resonate with what you say because sometimes when you run in and you're at speed and you've got momentum and you can crack the ball, it doesn't necessarily matter which goal he's in because you're probably gonna shoot a score, but then however many times you run at a speed and top it or smash it wide is also quite a high percentage.
- 53:50SPEAKER_00: Well, if you if you had to uh go uh on a breakout to score a goal, um and you either have to go past me or past Brendan, who would you pick?
- 54:04SPEAKER_03: You really yeah, do you know why?
- 54:09SPEAKER_03: Do you know why?
- 54:10SPEAKER_03: Because Brendan is he's big and he loves getting in the way of the ball.
- 54:19SPEAKER_03: I think you're like a a prettier defender, and I think that I'd have more chance of doing something fancy and actually getting round, whereas I think he would just get his body in the way and piss me off and win a foul.
- 54:31SPEAKER_03: Now I don't know what that would mean.
- 54:32SPEAKER_03: Do I get the foul again?
- 54:33SPEAKER_03: Do I get to start running again?
- 54:35SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 54:36SPEAKER_03: But then I'm quite slow, so I've got to start up again.
- 54:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I haven't really thought it through, but I thought it was a good, I think it's a very uh uh understandable explanation.
- 54:47SPEAKER_00: I don't agree because I would always I'm yeah, you know me, but like I get that.
- 54:54SPEAKER_03: Hey, that was that was that was as truthful as I could be.
- 54:56SPEAKER_03: He he he he pissed me off so much last year because he started doing this thing where he'd just watch me as opposed to the ball, and then you make it look all ugly, and then you put your hands up like, oh, I'm sorry, referee.
- 55:08SPEAKER_03: And he is good at that in fairness.
- 55:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, fair.
- 55:13SPEAKER_03: I would ask any of these questions, but when it comes to me and defending, I feel like it's just too easy for you.
- 55:17SPEAKER_03: It's like me throwing a baseball up and you hitting it away.
- 55:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you can just transfer me the money before I even start.
- 55:24SPEAKER_00: Let it go on you.
- 55:25SPEAKER_03: Um, I have one short hit before we uh before we wrap up.
- 55:30SPEAKER_00: And and it's shin pads to warm up in like a different set of shin pads, or do you mean like actual that you warm up with your shin pads on?
- 55:43SPEAKER_03: So I'll explain it because it there's there's a new trend going for our in our squad is that basically before anyone even does a running warm-up, you know, where you stretch and stuff, people are putting shin pads on.
- 56:01SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 56:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 56:04SPEAKER_00: Are you in that uh group?
- 56:07SPEAKER_03: No.
- 56:09SPEAKER_00: I think that's a massive shit to be honest.
- 56:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I couldn't agree more.
- 56:14SPEAKER_00: I think that's really like I I have I want to like um delay the moment I have to put on my shin pads as long as possible, also because I have to wear like pretty like wouldn't say big, but like like uh extensive shin guards because I'm because I'm a first runner.
- 56:29SPEAKER_00: Um and no.
- 56:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it's a very very not not a move.
- 56:38SPEAKER_03: I think it's it's slowly ground on me for a while, and then I was like, it's a good show or hit because like half our team do it now, and I'm like, why are they doing that?
- 56:47SPEAKER_03: Like it just half your team are idiots.
- 56:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think you you're bang on.
- 56:53SPEAKER_00: Does Ames do it?
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: He he seems like a guy who does it, to be honest.
- 56:56SPEAKER_03: No, I don't think he does actually.
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: He doesn't?
- 57:01SPEAKER_00: No.
- 57:04SPEAKER_00: Who does it?
- 57:04SPEAKER_00: Who's like a typical guy who does it?
- 57:07SPEAKER_03: You know who's I think he's like the ring leader, and and I I really hate doing this because he's he's he's the top guy, but Stu Rushmere.
- 57:14SPEAKER_03: Stu, I don't know if you listen.
- 57:17SPEAKER_03: I really like you, but I hate I hate it when you put your shin pads on.
- 57:20SPEAKER_03: I feel like you've you've set a trend that is not not cool.
- 57:24SPEAKER_00: Does he all does he also put his glove on?
- 57:28SPEAKER_03: Good question.
- 57:29SPEAKER_03: When I go back to training, I'll look at that and come back to you next week.
- 57:34SPEAKER_00: That's uh yeah, that's a that's an interesting move.
- 57:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 57:41SPEAKER_03: Well, we've kind of come to a natural end of episode six.
- 57:46SPEAKER_03: We are let's stick to it brought to you by Y1.
- 57:49SPEAKER_03: Thank you for tuning in.
- 57:51SPEAKER_03: And again, we would love to hear about our potential changes, our what we'd like to do to make hockey better.
- 57:59SPEAKER_03: I feel like it went in a different direction than I anticipated, but all the same, I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation, so thank you, you're welcome, Philip.
- 58:09SPEAKER_00: Thank you as well.
- 58:10SPEAKER_03: Bye.
- 58:11SPEAKER_03: See you see you next time.
