Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, here we are a third hour of the
- 0:01Speaker 1: radio program as promised. Joining us, he is the Lieutenant
- 0:05Speaker 1: governor for the Sunshine State, former Senator Jay Collins. We
- 0:09Speaker 1: have a socialist Marxist i e. Communist that may be
- 0:14Speaker 1: elected mayor of the largest city in this country. It
- 0:19Speaker 1: is incredibly impactful. What do you see as the impacts
- 0:23Speaker 1: of a Mom Donnie election for Florida? Are there any.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, Mam Donnie of all cities Preston, I
- 0:33Speaker 2: don't understand by New York has to learn this lesson
- 0:36Speaker 2: September eleventh was not that long ago. It just wasn't
- 0:40Speaker 2: It's shocking, right, What are the effects? Well, look, how
- 0:44Speaker 2: many people from New York in New Jersey in that
- 0:47Speaker 2: area have moved to Florida already. The truth is, if
- 0:50Speaker 2: a watered down communist gets elected, someone who doesn't espouse
- 0:56Speaker 2: supporting our law enforcem which it was pushed anti America
- 1:00Speaker 2: and rhetoric, who is surrounding himself with people who don't
- 1:03Speaker 2: like America. I believe one of his colleagues called America
- 1:06Speaker 2: a trash can with something I heard on Unlined and earlier.
- 1:11Speaker 2: It just is shocking, right, those people are going to migrate.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Other folks are gonna lead. The hope is that they
- 1:18Speaker 2: leave their politics what caused New York to fall into
- 1:22Speaker 2: this mess behind them, and come here and live the
- 1:25Speaker 2: Florida dream in life. Don't New York are Florida. If
- 1:28Speaker 2: you're gonna move here because of Mamdani, come here except Florida,
- 1:32Speaker 2: and let's continue to make Florida amazing and great and
- 1:35Speaker 2: lead from the front. If not, you know, it's gonna
- 1:39Speaker 2: be a problem. It's gonna be a push, and we're
- 1:40Speaker 2: going to have to continue to fight day in day
- 1:43Speaker 2: out because the onslaughd of people. Don't New York Florida.
- 1:46Speaker 2: We're gonna stand for our values here.
- 1:48Speaker 1: The early evidence is that the migration into the state
- 1:52Speaker 1: has been from people that we're seeking or support the
- 1:57Speaker 1: conservative values of this state.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Correct, Yes, in terms of COVID and everything else. Absolutely,
- 2:03Speaker 2: these are people who relocated. Is that what we're going
- 2:06Speaker 2: to see coming from New York?
- 2:07Speaker 3: Now?
- 2:07Speaker 2: I think yeah, you'll see a good amount of that,
- 2:10Speaker 2: people who are long term holdovers. But you know how
- 2:13Speaker 2: many more are there are these? You don't know? Just
- 2:17Speaker 2: saying it out loud that I hope they leave those
- 2:19Speaker 2: New York values there come here and accept what we
- 2:22Speaker 2: have right.
- 2:25Speaker 1: So gross all right, it's October twenty second, it's Wednesday.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Here on the program, the LG for the Sunshine State,
- 2:33Speaker 1: Jay Collins, Lieutenant Governor, with us for a couple more segments.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Staying with a little broader view of things, what's your
- 2:41Speaker 1: take on the federal government shut now?
- 2:44Speaker 2: Well, I think we're all a little frustrated by this.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I think you see the difference in how the federal
- 2:49Speaker 2: system and the state system work. We have a balanced budget,
- 2:53Speaker 2: they have a continuity resolution. We've got to get back
- 2:56Speaker 2: to work. I think the underlying current of this the
- 2:59Speaker 2: Democrats are asked looking for incredibly crazy things that aren't
- 3:03Speaker 2: commensurate with what America wants to see, and the Republicans
- 3:06Speaker 2: are holding strong. Right now, how long this lasts? Man
- 3:09Speaker 2: who knows, hope and pray that this doesn't affect our
- 3:13Speaker 2: military long term. They can figure this out before that does.
- 3:16Speaker 2: But the effect on Florida is a non essential. Parts
- 3:20Speaker 2: of the government aren't working efficiently, so certain things are
- 3:23Speaker 2: slower and it's going to affect a lot of people
- 3:25Speaker 2: as this thing goes on longer.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I'm curious, and honestly, I can't remember if we touched
- 3:31Speaker 1: on this before when we last chatted, Lieutenant Governor. But
- 3:35Speaker 1: is there any possibility, Is there any way that Florida
- 3:39Speaker 1: can help the military members that are based in Florida
- 3:43Speaker 1: should this shut down linger and it hit another paycheck?
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yeah, Preston actually did talk on that, and I love
- 3:49Speaker 2: your point. There's something that we're researching where the lines
- 3:52Speaker 2: of what we can do. Certainly, I know there are nonprofits.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I've talked to multiple nonprofits who are used to help
- 4:01Speaker 2: with food, with opportunity, with cash and infusion infusion right now,
- 4:06Speaker 2: but what can the state do? We're working through that,
- 4:08Speaker 2: and honestly, that's largely because you brought this up on
- 4:12Speaker 2: your show, So I appreciate that.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Is there any good that you see from your chair,
- 4:17Speaker 1: because I mean, look, you went from the Senate. Now
- 4:19Speaker 1: you're looking at things from a little bit broader perspective,
- 4:23Speaker 1: but now you're staring at this shut down and you're
- 4:25Speaker 1: seeing the stark differences as you just highlighted, between how
- 4:29Speaker 1: Florida runs its business how the federal government runs its business.
- 4:32Speaker 1: It's as different as night and day. So is there
- 4:34Speaker 1: any good coming out of this shutdown?
- 4:37Speaker 3: Right now?
- 4:37Speaker 2: I think you'd have to stretch to see where it is.
- 4:40Speaker 2: I hope and pray that we hold the Dems accountable.
- 4:44Speaker 2: We don't cave to any of their nonsense. I mean,
- 4:48Speaker 2: wanting to medicate without income verification. What could possibly go
- 4:52Speaker 2: wrong there? Right? Health care for illegal immigrants. It's not
- 4:55Speaker 2: something we want to talk about. It's not what something
- 4:57Speaker 2: people want to see. The American people want, immigration reform,
- 5:01Speaker 2: a legal immigration taken care of. Those are things we
- 5:04Speaker 2: can solve. Why do they keep taking the approach that
- 5:08Speaker 2: is not commensurate with what the American people want? So
- 5:12Speaker 2: I'm glad they're standing strong on this, and we're gonna
- 5:16Speaker 2: have to continue to push them. Eventually, they're going to
- 5:18Speaker 2: have to break because the will of the people will
- 5:20Speaker 2: press that. I just hope it's not catastrophic the day
- 5:23Speaker 2: to day lives of our people. But in Florida, we'll
- 5:26Speaker 2: continue to find ways to make a difference, save money,
- 5:28Speaker 2: and keep our businesses primed in our economy rolling.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I've The bright side to me is that generally, while
- 5:36Speaker 1: we know that there is an undercurrent where this thing
- 5:39Speaker 1: impacts a lot of people, there's also the side that, well,
- 5:43Speaker 1: there's a lot of people that are not being impacted
- 5:45Speaker 1: by the shutdown, which speaks to maybe the government is
- 5:48Speaker 1: just a little big. And I think a lot of
- 5:50Speaker 1: us would agree with that idea, that these shutdowns expose
- 5:54Speaker 1: the oversized nature of the federal bureaucracy.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Sure, I think when you have anything that's a non
- 6:02Speaker 2: essential part of the government, but it's not essential, wise there, Right,
- 6:05Speaker 2: that's the first question. I think got something to shann
- 6:07Speaker 2: As has talked about clearing up some of these you know,
- 6:11Speaker 2: there are excessive dollars spent on certain nonprofits things like that.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I love seeing that cleaned up. But in the end,
- 6:18Speaker 2: we can do that without having to shut down the
- 6:20Speaker 2: government too.
- 6:22Speaker 1: A little bit of an extended visit today with Florida's
- 6:25Speaker 1: Lieutenant Governor j Collins.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Jay.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Historically, Florida, even independent of the federal government US, has
- 6:30Speaker 1: always been allies, maybe sometimes stronger allies than others to Israel.
- 6:38Speaker 1: But Florida has independently always maintained a good relationship with Israel.
- 6:42Speaker 1: And so I'm curious with your background as well, factoring
- 6:46Speaker 1: in what's your thoughts on this agreement between Israel and
- 6:49Speaker 1: hamas well.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I will tell you I was recently in Israel, right,
- 6:54Speaker 2: I have bringing back twenty three hundred American citizens there,
- 6:58Speaker 2: and the Middle East is a quagmire for a long time.
- 7:02Speaker 2: America's made great gains and we've made some mistakes, and ultimately,
- 7:06Speaker 2: what can we do as a state. I think it's
- 7:08Speaker 2: important for us to stand and lead and serve our
- 7:10Speaker 2: people no matter what. So ultimately, I'm grateful where we
- 7:16Speaker 2: are for governors to stand as his courage, specifically in
- 7:20Speaker 2: how he's let on issues. Not a lot of people
- 7:23Speaker 2: were willing to step up after October seventh and bring
- 7:26Speaker 2: people home. Certainly not any other governor the same thing
- 7:30Speaker 2: when we came back during the twelve day one and
- 7:34Speaker 2: I run in Israel. This ceasefire is something that we're
- 7:37Speaker 2: going to have to stand with the people who espouse
- 7:39Speaker 2: American values, who line up with us. I'm a little
- 7:42Speaker 2: hesitant and concerned about Hamas following through, but you know,
- 7:45Speaker 2: you've got to take a big, big swing. You really do, Preston,
- 7:48Speaker 2: and I'm glad to see that we're trying to get
- 7:50Speaker 2: something done. If you don't, you know, if you don't
- 7:53Speaker 2: try for the win, you're never going to get there.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I really don't believe that, So kudos to President Trump.
- 7:59Speaker 2: For getting this online. And I worry about hamas following through.
- 8:03Speaker 2: I truly do.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, we've followed that. It seems like it's
- 8:08Speaker 1: a broken agreement every other day, if not every day.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Let's talk about something that you have been kind of
- 8:15Speaker 1: a point man on and it's this recent drug bust
- 8:20Speaker 1: kind of joint operations with FHP and DEA. Talk first back,
- 8:25Speaker 1: give us the backstory of what was being investigated and
- 8:29Speaker 1: looked at, and then the end result.
- 8:32Speaker 2: So, yeah, this was pretty amazing. We had found that
- 8:37Speaker 2: when the border closed down, right, when we've done that,
- 8:40Speaker 2: it's redirected a lot of the drug smuggling, the human trafficking.
- 8:43Speaker 2: They had a final tier paths because the wide open,
- 8:47Speaker 2: gaping hole in the southern border is not there, so
- 8:50Speaker 2: where they go there are some work done by DEA
- 8:54Speaker 2: working with state agencies like the FAHP and local law
- 8:58Speaker 2: enforcement that there was something come in. And what was
- 9:02Speaker 2: amazing is you got to see government at its very
- 9:05Speaker 2: very best. Even during the shutdown. You saw the DA
- 9:09Speaker 2: working with our state agencies, working with our local law
- 9:13Speaker 2: enforcement to have a huge effect, like seventeen million dollars
- 9:17Speaker 2: in cocaine. There was a whole brick wall of cocaine
- 9:21Speaker 2: behind me when we did this press conference. Absolutely amazing.
- 9:24Speaker 2: That's great government. But just a few days before that,
- 9:26Speaker 2: they did the same thing. They found millions of dollars
- 9:28Speaker 2: in cocaine and other drugs and like thirty illegal immigrants
- 9:33Speaker 2: from China. They were being smuggled in for whatever purposes.
- 9:37Speaker 2: People were doing that right, not on the up and up.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Not great, horrible human traffickings, a blight on society. But
- 9:44Speaker 2: our law enforcements are working together at all levels to
- 9:47Speaker 2: keep our community safe and actually met huge results. I'm
- 9:51Speaker 2: so incredibly proud of what they do. This is all
- 9:54Speaker 2: them working together. It's amazing.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Is this now? Is this a federal case? Is it
- 9:58Speaker 1: a state case? Is it federal followed by state? I mean,
- 10:01Speaker 1: what's the jurisdiction of this?
- 10:04Speaker 2: Well, I think it's going to be federal, and I
- 10:06Speaker 2: think you could have state charges as well. But the
- 10:09Speaker 2: Feds were there this in the DEA. Yeah, enabled us,
- 10:12Speaker 2: But the local cops were the ones who had most
- 10:15Speaker 2: of the information and tips, and good for them. FAHP
- 10:19Speaker 2: and everybody else jumped right in. Absolutely incredible. I don't
- 10:23Speaker 2: want to go too much more into this. Yeah, they
- 10:25Speaker 2: were still working through particulars and the investigation and everything,
- 10:28Speaker 2: so you'll probably see that come out in the media shortly.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Is there is there any more you can say without
- 10:35Speaker 1: interfering with any of that, Lieutenant Governor, and expand a
- 10:39Speaker 1: little bit about how operations have changed in how the traffickers,
- 10:44Speaker 1: whether they be drug traffickers or human traffickers, how they're
- 10:48Speaker 1: changing their operandus, their motives of operandus. When the southern
- 10:53Speaker 1: border now is largely shut down, what should people in
- 10:56Speaker 1: Florida be looking for.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Well, this was in an eighteen wheeler with a hidden compartment.
- 11:03Speaker 2: It was smuggling these drugs all the way across from
- 11:06Speaker 2: El Paso through Texas on into Florida. That's a long trip,
- 11:13Speaker 2: and just kept going and going and going, you know.
- 11:15Speaker 2: And if it doesn't look right, alert people, right, see something,
- 11:19Speaker 2: say something, go to your law enforcement. Don't take matters
- 11:22Speaker 2: into your hands, but let people know if something doesn't
- 11:25Speaker 2: seem light and let them investigate. Right, That's what they're
- 11:28Speaker 2: there for. That's why they're experts in this. Yeah, this
- 11:32Speaker 2: is going to have a profound shift, and that's simply
- 11:34Speaker 2: because of leadership at the federal level being supported by
- 11:36Speaker 2: the states. What I would love to see is other
- 11:38Speaker 2: states get really serious along that corridor and do the
- 11:42Speaker 2: same thing we are. Why are we the ones who
- 11:44Speaker 2: are putting the work in and doing all this stuff.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Other states should do the same things. The kudos to
- 11:49Speaker 2: the standards were having encouraged, kudos to the President. Trump
- 11:52Speaker 2: is done amazing. But I would love to see more
- 11:55Speaker 2: states step up in the two eighty seven g agreements
- 11:58Speaker 2: and accomplish more with a results very similar with Florida's.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I'm curious and if you can't answer this, I understand.
- 12:05Speaker 1: But in our final question here, was Florida the ending
- 12:10Speaker 1: destination for these drugs? Or were we a distribution point
- 12:13Speaker 1: up by eighty five and up seventy five?
- 12:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think I can answer that one right now, Okay,
- 12:20Speaker 3: but I'll tell you yes and no is probably the answer,
- 12:23Speaker 3: just generally, right, there's always.
- 12:26Speaker 2: More going on, and who knows how this is going
- 12:29Speaker 2: to continue to adapt. You got to be tough on crime,
- 12:32Speaker 2: you got to hold people accountable, and you got to
- 12:34Speaker 2: stand for the rule of law. That's why they're so critical.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Our society is based off safety in the community. Again,
- 12:40Speaker 2: Trudeo's to the men and women at all three levels
- 12:42Speaker 2: working together. I'm so incredibly proud of what they did.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins, thanks for the time this morning.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Jay.
- 12:48Speaker 1: We'll talk again.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Soon, all right. Thanks good Preston, thanks for having them.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Buddy, my pleasure. Jay Collins, former state senator now Lieutenant
- 12:56Speaker 1: governor of the State of Florida, and our guests this
- 12:58Speaker 1: morning on the Morning Show with Breston, Scott
- 13:02Speaker 2: M.
