- 0:31Speaker 1: cheek in it with ki Kee. Hello and welcome back
- 0:42Speaker 1: to another episode of Kicking and Wikiki Life, Love and Mindset,
- 0:46Speaker 1: the podcast where mindset meets movement, healing meets action, and
- 0:50Speaker 1: conversations create transformation.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Hey, thanks for having me Kiki. I really appreciate it.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Love your energy, and I love your shirt too. That's
- 0:59Speaker 2: a pretty amazing thing. I am Mark Winters. I'm a
- 1:04Speaker 2: singer songwriter from uh beautiful Sugarland, Texas. I am uh
- 1:12Speaker 2: just freshly back from the Good Vibes Highway Tour Spring
- 1:16Speaker 2: the spring edition, and uh just had a great time
- 1:19Speaker 2: out on the road. And I love writing about all
- 1:22Speaker 2: the people that I meet and places I visit. Uh
- 1:25Speaker 2: but the positive spin and maybe maybe a little bit
- 1:28Speaker 2: nerdy too, So that's uh, That's what I'm all about.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I love that. Thank you for being here today. So
- 1:35Speaker 1: we're gonna go into the mindset moment because our experiences
- 1:39Speaker 1: kind of shift how we see life and how we
- 1:42Speaker 1: go through mindset shifts, aha, moments and all the things.
- 1:45Speaker 1: So what mindset shift change the way you approach life.
- 1:50Speaker 2: So I would say, uh, you know a little bit
- 1:53Speaker 2: of a backstory my history. I started off I love math,
- 1:57Speaker 2: I love science. I love understanding how the world works.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I'm very curious and that led me to be an
- 2:03Speaker 2: aerospace engineer. So doing the thing over there, enjoying myself
- 2:08Speaker 2: and uh then, uh, you know, I decided to do
- 2:13Speaker 2: something musical. I had never done anything musical in my life,
- 2:17Speaker 2: and so I picked up a guitar to play a
- 2:18Speaker 2: song for my wife for our anniversary. Uh surprised her
- 2:23Speaker 2: in our favorite Italian restaurant, and uh, man, the connection,
- 2:29Speaker 2: the I don't know, the transcendence, just the just the
- 2:33Speaker 2: ability to sort of get on another level with someone
- 2:37Speaker 2: was so profound when I sang the song to her
- 2:40Speaker 2: that it just really made me consider music more seriously
- 2:45Speaker 2: as as an endeavor pursuit, you know, as a passion.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And I started writing my own stuff. And uh, So
- 2:55Speaker 2: I would say that the shift for me was this,
- 2:58Speaker 2: this movement.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I had a.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Small piece of my personality that was creative, but most
- 3:02Speaker 2: of it was sort of you know, science, engineering, business,
- 3:06Speaker 2: that sort of stuff. And then you know, this little
- 3:09Speaker 2: art the little flame of artistry in my in my
- 3:12Speaker 2: head bloomed, blossomed in that moment, and it's become a
- 3:18Speaker 2: huge part of my life. Now that's all I do
- 3:19Speaker 2: is music. And so I would say, my my aha
- 3:24Speaker 2: moment was that moment. I'm chasing that feeling all the
- 3:27Speaker 2: time now, you know.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that is so amazing. I love to hear stories
- 3:31Speaker 1: like that, So thank you for sharing it with us.
- 3:34Speaker 1: How did that all come about? Like when did you
- 3:37Speaker 1: know that that was a part of your passion or
- 3:39Speaker 1: your purpose?
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yeah? You know, growing up in school, I had this
- 3:47Speaker 2: affinity dual affinity, right, So I love sports, and so
- 3:51Speaker 2: you find me out on track or playing football or
- 3:55Speaker 2: tennis or whatever. So I was I was was involved
- 3:58Speaker 2: in athletics, and then I had this aptitude for math
- 4:02Speaker 2: and science and understanding the world. So that probably so
- 4:06Speaker 2: that I could enjoy my athletics better. Probably, But yeah,
- 4:10Speaker 2: so I had these two aptitudes and that really shaped
- 4:14Speaker 2: kind of how I thought about the world. And then
- 4:19Speaker 2: my grandparents were influential as well. You know, my my
- 4:23Speaker 2: dad's parents, my mom my grandma was a nurse and
- 4:26Speaker 2: my grandpa was an engineer.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Uh.
- 4:29Speaker 2: And then my mom's dad, I was a truck driver,
- 4:32Speaker 2: but extremely mechanically inclined. And so I remember often sitting
- 4:38Speaker 2: out in East Texas. Winnie was where my grandparents were from,
- 4:42Speaker 2: and so sitting out there, Uh that's sort of right
- 4:46Speaker 2: near Beaumont and Dix and stuff in my grandpa's garage
- 4:51Speaker 2: and uh, you know, doing woodworking in my other grandpa's garage.
- 4:55Speaker 2: And so I think I had this, I got this
- 4:57Speaker 2: really great foundation of encouraging and to tinker and explore
- 5:02Speaker 2: and and so that all sort of left me led
- 5:06Speaker 2: me to, you know, aerospace engineering. I really love applied physics, mathematics.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I love the feeling of flying and racing motorcycles and
- 5:21Speaker 2: downhill skiing, anything that you know, roller blood anywhere there's
- 5:25Speaker 2: where I can kind of get in a groove and
- 5:27Speaker 2: feel the gravity pulling me right. And so that I
- 5:30Speaker 2: think that just love of that feeling helped me pick
- 5:34Speaker 2: aerospace too. And then the math in aerospace is very mysterious,
- 5:41Speaker 2: you know, it doesn't there's not a lot of solutions still,
- 5:45Speaker 2: even with all this massive AI everywhere. They still can't
- 5:47Speaker 2: solve some of the equations to understand atmospheric flight, and
- 5:52Speaker 2: so there's a mystery to it still.
- 5:54Speaker 1: You know, I love that you described that as mysterious
- 5:57Speaker 1: because it is English. But I love how your eyes
- 6:06Speaker 1: light up when you talk about it.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah. I had the worst English teacher on
- 6:11Speaker 2: the planet in middle in elementary school, and that really
- 6:16Speaker 2: jaded me against I mean, I love writing, but it
- 6:19Speaker 2: just jaded me against uh, you know, I guess being
- 6:23Speaker 2: more serious about you know, English and such. So yeah,
- 6:27Speaker 2: my hat's off to you. I had a bad mentor
- 6:29Speaker 2: over there, so I ended up going a different direction.
- 6:31Speaker 1: You know, it happens. It happens, and it's unfortunate because
- 6:35Speaker 1: a lot of people miss out on their true calling
- 6:38Speaker 1: because they take the words or opinion of somebody else
- 6:41Speaker 1: who just had to settle in what they were doing,
- 6:44Speaker 1: so they couldn't pour in to the person to pursue
- 6:48Speaker 1: their dreams because they didn't get a chance to pursue
- 6:50Speaker 1: their own.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's unfortunate. I think you're right there said
- 6:53Speaker 2: teachers are so influential in your life. Just uh, you know,
- 6:59Speaker 2: it's sad if you could the wrong one you know.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Yeah, so what life experience wish you to grow to most?
- 7:08Speaker 2: Ooh, I would say, you know, having my daughter. You know,
- 7:18Speaker 2: you might think you're a selfless person, and you might
- 7:21Speaker 2: think that you know, you understand what you know, what
- 7:24Speaker 2: love uh really can make you do. But yeah, I'd say,
- 7:32Speaker 2: you know, the most transformational for me was was, you know,
- 7:37Speaker 2: watching my daughter come out of my wife as like,
- 7:40Speaker 2: oh my god. Yeah. Phenomenal on so many levels, and
- 7:46Speaker 2: transformational from a life point of view and from a
- 7:48Speaker 2: just a mentality point of view, like, you know, life
- 7:52Speaker 2: isn't about you anymore. And as much as you love
- 7:54Speaker 2: your spouse, having a child dependent on you is a
- 7:57Speaker 2: whole nother level of response.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Daughter, you know, absolutely, I agree, Like my greatest joy
- 8:04Speaker 1: is being a parent.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, having that? How many? How many kids do
- 8:08Speaker 2: you have?
- 8:08Speaker 1: I have to have a daughter and a son. My
- 8:11Speaker 1: daughter is the artist the paintings that you see artist
- 8:15Speaker 1: and a writer. My son is going into his senior
- 8:18Speaker 1: year of high school and he loves music to make
- 8:21Speaker 1: I'll stay in choir last year. So I'm excited to
- 8:26Speaker 1: see where that journey takes him because he's very serious
- 8:28Speaker 1: about it. He's very good at it too, not being
- 8:30Speaker 1: biased as his mom. Uh huh. He's just really really
- 8:33Speaker 1: good at it.
- 8:33Speaker 2: So yeah, that's cool.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I think being a parent it just it makes you
- 8:39Speaker 1: look at yourself like, wow, I didn't notice about myself,
- 8:44Speaker 1: but now I do.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. Yeah, I need to start thinking about
- 8:48Speaker 2: what you're going to teach them, right, Like what what
- 8:51Speaker 2: parts of your personality do you want to not expose
- 8:55Speaker 2: them to?
- 8:55Speaker 1: Right?
- 8:55Speaker 2: You start start of censoring yourself a little bit, like
- 8:57Speaker 2: all right, I need to clean it up a little
- 8:59Speaker 2: bit here, you know, absolutely.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Yeah, So we want to throw some long questions. A
- 9:06Speaker 1: love question the mayor hall is love, Whether self love
- 9:09Speaker 1: our relationships shifted your mindset?
- 9:12Speaker 2: Yeah, my parents got divorced when I was a teenager,
- 9:14Speaker 2: and it was a very traumatic thing for me. And
- 9:18Speaker 2: so when I was, you know, thinking about, you know,
- 9:24Speaker 2: finding somebody myself to you know, connect with and make
- 9:28Speaker 2: a family with, that was in my mind like, don't
- 9:32Speaker 2: make don't make a bad choice, And so I was
- 9:35Speaker 2: very thoughtful, and uh, I don't know, I got h
- 9:40Speaker 2: I got probably into my mid twenties and I hadn't
- 9:43Speaker 2: really found a high quality person that I really liked,
- 9:47Speaker 2: and so I decided to I guess I just won't
- 9:51Speaker 2: get married. Uh, and then eureka, my wife shows up
- 9:56Speaker 2: and uh just takes me on this journey that I
- 10:00Speaker 2: never would have gone on, right, I'd sort of given
- 10:02Speaker 2: up on love, right, and uh, you know she's she's
- 10:08Speaker 2: a nurse and a wildlife rehaber, she's got all these
- 10:11Speaker 2: amazing compassion traits and you know, she's such a perfect
- 10:15Speaker 2: puzzle fit for me. Right, we just complete each other.
- 10:18Speaker 2: So well, it's a you know, it's been a journey
- 10:21Speaker 2: I never thought I would go on, and it's brought
- 10:24Speaker 2: me the greatest joys of my life with her and
- 10:27Speaker 2: with my children. And then it's you know, I make
- 10:32Speaker 2: this career pivot from a real job to music, which
- 10:40Speaker 2: is now a passion, a job and a passion, and
- 10:45Speaker 2: she's like, hey, we're gonna make it work. You know,
- 10:47Speaker 2: you you chased your dream and you know, just be
- 10:51Speaker 2: who you need to be and and uh, and I'll
- 10:53Speaker 2: be right there for you. And it's been an amazing
- 10:57Speaker 2: expression of the love that someone says they have, but
- 11:00Speaker 2: then you see it in action, You're like, wow, that's
- 11:02Speaker 2: very awesome.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Yeah, that is awesome. So I'm so happy for you.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Mark and I could tell that Eureka is very special
- 11:10Speaker 1: by the way that you talk about her dance a
- 11:13Speaker 1: little bit. Yeah, I hope she gets the chance to
- 11:15Speaker 1: watch this interview and see that.
- 11:17Speaker 2: I'll share it with her for sure.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Yes. So let's talk about finding joy in the small moments.
- 11:25Speaker 1: How important do you believe that that is for life?
- 11:29Speaker 1: Love and mindset?
- 11:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I used to not pay attention to any of that.
- 11:38Speaker 2: You know, I'm extremely competitive and goal oriented and so like,
- 11:43Speaker 2: you know, go go, go, go, go go. And and
- 11:47Speaker 2: I'm also extremely durable. I've just been through a lot
- 11:50Speaker 2: of things in my life, and so you know, I
- 11:53Speaker 2: really never thought about, you know, the small moments are
- 11:57Speaker 2: taking care of myself or anything else. And I think,
- 12:00Speaker 2: you know, uh, my wife is very much the opposite
- 12:05Speaker 2: of that, right, and so she makes me slow down
- 12:08Speaker 2: and she makes me, you know, breathe in and so
- 12:11Speaker 2: over time it's really helped me become more mindful. And
- 12:16Speaker 2: I'm so thankful that I I have this mindfulness. You know,
- 12:21Speaker 2: we do yoga together, we you know, we do uh,
- 12:25Speaker 2: you know, some other you know, breathing things together and
- 12:29Speaker 2: whatever else. And it's a as I got as I
- 12:33Speaker 2: as I moved more into this artistic or creative side
- 12:38Speaker 2: of myself. You know, I think it it exposes you
- 12:43Speaker 2: to a lot more emotional journeys that you go on
- 12:47Speaker 2: and you end up you know, yeah, you you know,
- 12:52Speaker 2: the way you ground yourself feels so different in this
- 12:55Speaker 2: artistic expression. I'm performing for people, I'm connecting. It's an
- 12:59Speaker 2: emotional thing I'm sharing and so very different than engineering
- 13:06Speaker 2: and business, right, and so for me, I think having
- 13:13Speaker 2: an awareness of the small moments, the small victories. You know,
- 13:17Speaker 2: it's not you know, when I put a song out,
- 13:21Speaker 2: you know, it's it's nice when you know thousands of
- 13:24Speaker 2: people listen to it or comment on something, But it's
- 13:29Speaker 2: it's the individual moments, the small moments where someone tells
- 13:35Speaker 2: me a story about something happening. And I wrote a
- 13:38Speaker 2: song about, you know, losing my brother and the journey
- 13:45Speaker 2: you know, guild remorse and and and and the journey
- 13:49Speaker 2: to find you know, peace in those moments, and some
- 13:54Speaker 2: people share their stories with me when they hear the song,
- 13:58Speaker 2: and and so, you know, whether it's digitally I'm hearing
- 14:03Speaker 2: I'm interacting with people, or when I'm playing a show
- 14:05Speaker 2: a show live, and there are small moments in the
- 14:08Speaker 2: show a small smile from someone in the crowd or
- 14:11Speaker 2: someone who's vibing with what you're doing, and so you
- 14:14Speaker 2: you find people that you're connecting with. I think those
- 14:18Speaker 2: small moments when I'm out on tour, I get a
- 14:20Speaker 2: chance to go hiking or enjoy the community I'm in.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Uh So, I think I've become much more appreciative of
- 14:26Speaker 2: the small moments and the small moments of joy that
- 14:31Speaker 2: really make you know, I guess, fill up the well
- 14:36Speaker 2: inside me right of of of need for for love
- 14:39Speaker 2: and and and companionship on the journey. And that's really
- 14:44Speaker 2: been pretty cool. And I don't think I would ever
- 14:47Speaker 2: would have gone there if I hadn't taken up music,
- 14:51Speaker 2: you know as a profession.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Wow. And I love to hear you talk about it
- 14:56Speaker 1: because I try to always fine joy in the small things,
- 15:02Speaker 1: like the small things matter most to me in life
- 15:05Speaker 1: because I am an Earth Sign, so I'm all about
- 15:08Speaker 1: being grounded and having that balance and and experienced. I
- 15:13Speaker 1: could see a little ladybug on just walking along something
- 15:17Speaker 1: and I'm like, Wow, I wonder where she's going or
- 15:20Speaker 1: he's going, you know, something like that.
- 15:21Speaker 2: I love that.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Yeah, when when the trees dance I say, when the
- 15:25Speaker 1: wind is blowing, the trees are dancing. I just I
- 15:27Speaker 1: love to hear that are just listening to the sound
- 15:31Speaker 1: of rain. It's those small things that matter so much
- 15:34Speaker 1: to me.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that's amazing. So all right, So just because they're
- 15:38Speaker 2: now we're on the same wavelength.
- 15:39Speaker 1: All right.
- 15:39Speaker 2: So I wrote a song called uh find by Love,
- 15:44Speaker 2: and it's about all the little things that we do
- 15:47Speaker 2: for each other that nurture relationships and strengthen them.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Right.
- 15:53Speaker 2: And then on top of that, and you mentioned the trees,
- 15:56Speaker 2: I wrote a song called Dancing Tree. It's exactly that
- 16:01Speaker 2: moment they're dancing and I just sort of become one
- 16:03Speaker 2: with them in the song. It's pretty cool. Yeah, here
- 16:06Speaker 2: we are vibing together already, Kiki.
- 16:09Speaker 1: They gave me goosebumps, like, yeah, what, I love it.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I love it. That is so amazing. So I'm gonna
- 16:16Speaker 1: talk about you being a professional optimist. How why why
- 16:21Speaker 1: why that particular phrase? I get it, But for someone
- 16:24Speaker 1: who's listening, explain what that is and what it means
- 16:28Speaker 1: to you.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I guess it's just ever since I've
- 16:33Speaker 2: been born, you know, I always am looking for, you know,
- 16:39Speaker 2: the best in people. That I meet, Right, I want
- 16:41Speaker 2: to know what's what's cool about you? Right already I
- 16:45Speaker 2: can see right, you have such a beautiful smile, and
- 16:48Speaker 2: you have this positive affect, right, and you just have
- 16:51Speaker 2: a genuine joy in talking to people. And so I'm
- 16:54Speaker 2: always looking for that. Right here's you know, Kiki is cool,
- 16:56Speaker 2: and I'm looking for the best of Kiki or other
- 17:00Speaker 2: people that I meet when I when I'm in a place,
- 17:02Speaker 2: I'm looking for the natural beauty in the place. Even
- 17:06Speaker 2: when I get, you know, knocked down in life in
- 17:09Speaker 2: some way. You know, I don't stay down. I just
- 17:12Speaker 2: I'm looking for Okay, here I am, Now where do
- 17:16Speaker 2: I want to go? Let's find the best pathway through it.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I'm always looking for that silver lining in a situation.
- 17:21Speaker 2: And uh, you know, as a matter of fact, when
- 17:23Speaker 2: I write, when I write, you know, have a songwriting
- 17:26Speaker 2: association in town here that I'm a part of. And
- 17:28Speaker 2: when when we're doing you know, sharing songs with each
- 17:31Speaker 2: other in a circle or something like that. You know,
- 17:33Speaker 2: most of my other peers are not positive like that songwriter.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Send to be a little of a more emotional lot.
- 17:40Speaker 2: And so I got a guy singing about addiction and
- 17:43Speaker 2: the guys singing about you know, uh, you knows being
- 17:47Speaker 2: kicked in you know.
- 17:48Speaker 1: My life.
- 17:49Speaker 2: So we go around the circle. You know, everybody's got
- 17:52Speaker 2: some kind of negative thing going on. And we get
- 17:54Speaker 2: to meet and I'm like, hey, guys, I love the world.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Let's go. They're like, all right, dude. Sometimes they tell
- 18:00Speaker 2: me thank you for lifting us up, and sometimes they're like, man,
- 18:04Speaker 2: that's over the top. So I'd say, you know, and
- 18:08Speaker 2: then the scientist in me, you know, thinks about this
- 18:11Speaker 2: natural inclination. And one of the things that I talk
- 18:14Speaker 2: about is sort of, you know, a marriage of my
- 18:16Speaker 2: science mind and my poet mind and my positivity. You know,
- 18:22Speaker 2: I have a signature. I think like a proton, right,
- 18:26Speaker 2: and so if protons are positive and protons are stable, too, right,
- 18:32Speaker 2: and so for me, I try to bring a positive
- 18:36Speaker 2: perspective to people who come to a show. I try
- 18:40Speaker 2: to make sure that people who are coming in, I
- 18:43Speaker 2: meet them where they are, and I try to create
- 18:46Speaker 2: an environment we're we're all a community and we're on
- 18:50Speaker 2: this journey together, and I'm sharing, you know, a lot
- 18:54Speaker 2: of the positive things, like you know, staying in the
- 18:56Speaker 2: rhythm with the people around you, or binding your love
- 19:00Speaker 2: the small things or you know, uh, you know, being
- 19:04Speaker 2: mindful of the signal you're putting out and taking in.
- 19:07Speaker 2: And so there's all these things that when you come
- 19:09Speaker 2: to a show that we're on a journey together. I
- 19:12Speaker 2: even do some collaborative things where I'll do some you know,
- 19:17Speaker 2: we'll all get in a rhythm together as the audience. Right,
- 19:19Speaker 2: So while I'm playing a thing, right and everybody starts clapping,
- 19:23Speaker 2: and I got people doing the thing, and then I'll
- 19:26Speaker 2: recite like half poetry half poem, or half poetry half
- 19:30Speaker 2: song to the rhythm that we've all created together right now,
- 19:34Speaker 2: I'll get people to join in. And so things like that,
- 19:36Speaker 2: you know, to me help create a sense of community
- 19:39Speaker 2: and a little bit of a some joy, right for
- 19:42Speaker 2: all of us being there together. And you leave the
- 19:44Speaker 2: room maybe a little with a few extra protons that
- 19:46Speaker 2: you didn't have coming in.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I love it. I love it because when I used
- 19:50Speaker 1: to do writing workshops, I would always start off a
- 19:53Speaker 1: story and have everybody in attendance add to it, and
- 19:57Speaker 1: by the end of it, everybody has written the hilp
- 20:00Speaker 1: me write a story, And I said, who knows, it
- 20:02Speaker 1: might be in a book, You never know. But it
- 20:04Speaker 1: just it just lightens up everything, because people can be
- 20:07Speaker 1: a little bit uptight when they're in a new environment
- 20:09Speaker 1: around new people and stuff like that. So I love
- 20:12Speaker 1: that you find a rhythm in the people that's in
- 20:15Speaker 1: that space to create an experience. That's what you're doing.
- 20:18Speaker 1: You're creating a magical experience for them so that they
- 20:21Speaker 1: can take it and share it with someone else that
- 20:24Speaker 1: may have not been an attendant. I think we need
- 20:26Speaker 1: more people like this in the world. Mark and thank
- 20:29Speaker 1: you for leaving your mark on so many people's lives,
- 20:33Speaker 1: Like in a positive way. We need more people to
- 20:36Speaker 1: shed that positive light and be enthusiastic and optimistic because
- 20:42Speaker 1: life be lifing and it's hard. We all are going
- 20:46Speaker 1: through different things.
- 20:47Speaker 3: So are you gonna be negative about it and attract
- 20:51Speaker 3: all that negativity or are you going to do something positive
- 20:54Speaker 3: about it and put out something that other people may
- 20:57Speaker 3: need in a positive way.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I wish more people thought like the last part
- 21:03Speaker 2: of that, right, let's just think about you know where
- 21:05Speaker 2: you are right now? You know, I mean we're all human,
- 21:08Speaker 2: you know, we all get down in the dump sometimes.
- 21:11Speaker 2: But if a friend of yours is encouraging you in
- 21:14Speaker 2: some way, while you're down in the dumps. That's always helpful, right.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Right, Absolutely, we're going to go into our reality check
- 21:20Speaker 1: segment because growth sounds good, but we know that it's uncomfortable.
- 21:27Speaker 1: And I really don't think that it's supposed to be
- 21:29Speaker 1: comfortable because it doesn't push you. If if it's comfort,
- 21:32Speaker 1: you know, there's no growth in the comfort zone. So
- 21:35Speaker 1: what's uncomfortable? Truth? People need to understand and know about mindset?
- 21:42Speaker 2: Wow, I learned this from my wife. Okay, Like we're
- 21:48Speaker 2: not perfect, and it's great for us to share our
- 21:57Speaker 2: imperfections and failure with our friends and family because not
- 22:05Speaker 2: only does it help you in sharing that, it also
- 22:11Speaker 2: helps them. They may be going through something very similar
- 22:14Speaker 2: and then may be too embarrassed or too uptight to
- 22:19Speaker 2: talk about it and think about it, and so they
- 22:23Speaker 2: don't end up finding resolution right or or their own
- 22:29Speaker 2: way through the situation. And so I just see my wife,
- 22:32Speaker 2: you know, she lives and breathes that. She's you might
- 22:35Speaker 2: call her brutally honest. She's going to tell you how
- 22:37Speaker 2: it is right, but it's all honesty. It's not with malice.
- 22:42Speaker 2: And you know, so for me, you know, life is hard.
- 22:47Speaker 2: I have a tendency to want to be perfect and
- 22:50Speaker 2: to want to present a perfect front. Uh and and
- 22:54Speaker 2: that doesn't help anybody, right, authenticity does. And I know
- 22:59Speaker 2: our kids and our friends and family have all learned
- 23:02Speaker 2: a ton from just my wife's you know, honesty, And
- 23:07Speaker 2: so I would say, yeah, you know, we're not perfect,
- 23:10Speaker 2: so get over it, right, get out of your own
- 23:13Speaker 2: way and talk to people about your imperfections and and
- 23:16Speaker 2: and be at peace with it.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Right.
- 23:17Speaker 2: It's that's just a part of who you.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Are exactly, and that makes you who you are, which
- 23:22Speaker 1: is an amazing thing. Like we were not created saying
- 23:25Speaker 1: for a reason. Mm hmmm, how born life would be
- 23:28Speaker 1: if everybody did the same thing and health the same
- 23:31Speaker 1: way and walk the same way. Yeah, I'm glad that
- 23:34Speaker 1: I am who I am, right, Okay, what belief or
- 23:39Speaker 1: habit keeps people stuck the longest? In your opinion?
- 23:43Speaker 2: Ooh, I think people people think about progress backwards and
- 23:54Speaker 2: they think about Okay, I I don't know, like I
- 23:57Speaker 2: don't somebody's like I don't like my job, right, and
- 24:03Speaker 2: so I don't like my boss or I don't like
- 24:06Speaker 2: what I do right. I can't imagine doing this for
- 24:09Speaker 2: another twenty years. You know you here's people have friends
- 24:11Speaker 2: talk like that. I say, Okay, well, it doesn't make
- 24:13Speaker 2: any sense to me, since I've got such a goal
- 24:16Speaker 2: oriented mind. It's like, okay, well, if you don't like
- 24:20Speaker 2: your job and you don't the profession or the people
- 24:24Speaker 2: that you're working with, it doesn't take a lot of
- 24:27Speaker 2: effort to go and pick a new career or find
- 24:32Speaker 2: a new job that does have what you want. And
- 24:36Speaker 2: so someone will be like my friend will be miserable
- 24:39Speaker 2: for two or three years, and they tell you the
- 24:43Speaker 2: same thing every time, and it's like, dude, just get
- 24:48Speaker 2: a little extra energy one day and do the new
- 24:50Speaker 2: thing right and think about the three years of happiness
- 24:53Speaker 2: that you just gave up because you didn't realize that
- 24:58Speaker 2: you're keeping yourself stiff, right, And so in my mind,
- 25:02Speaker 2: you know, I think people's habits sometimes momentum sometimes just
- 25:10Speaker 2: just keeps people people in a situation. And if you
- 25:14Speaker 2: just find a little bit of courage to get out
- 25:18Speaker 2: of that momentum cycle and do and and look for
- 25:21Speaker 2: something that's going to make you happier, a better environment
- 25:24Speaker 2: for yourself, just a little it's a little bit of
- 25:26Speaker 2: extra energy you can take you in a new direction,
- 25:29Speaker 2: and you know, to this to a much more joyful light.
- 25:33Speaker 2: So I don't know. I think people think about that
- 25:35Speaker 2: in an odd way. I've been told lots of times
- 25:37Speaker 2: like I have you know friends who struggle with their weight.
- 25:40Speaker 2: It's like, okay, well, you know it's a simple formula.
- 25:44Speaker 2: You know, eat healthy, exercise. Right. If you do these
- 25:48Speaker 2: things unless you have some kind of a genetic issue,
- 25:51Speaker 2: you're gonna be healthier and you're not going to carry
- 25:54Speaker 2: as much weight, and you're going to be happier. But
- 25:58Speaker 2: to me, that's the way my brain works. Hey, if
- 25:59Speaker 2: you want a thing, go get it right, I mean,
- 26:02Speaker 2: but I guess that's not common. So I find to
- 26:06Speaker 2: find ways to As a matter of fact, my daughter's
- 26:10Speaker 2: taught me the most. Right, We'll go for a walk
- 26:13Speaker 2: and she's telling me what's going on in her life,
- 26:15Speaker 2: and she's like, you know this and that and the other.
- 26:18Speaker 2: And in the beginning I would try to like I
- 26:21Speaker 2: would try to tell her how to fix the thing,
- 26:24Speaker 2: like we'll talk to your friend this way, and how
- 26:26Speaker 2: to talk to your friend that way, and have you
- 26:27Speaker 2: thought about it this way or that way or the
- 26:29Speaker 2: other way?
- 26:29Speaker 1: Right?
- 26:31Speaker 2: And at one point she told me, look, Dad, I
- 26:35Speaker 2: don't need Bob the Builder telling you how to fix
- 26:39Speaker 2: my life. I'm just sharing. I'm denting and I was like, okay,
- 26:44Speaker 2: So I said, well, you know what, that's not on
- 26:46Speaker 2: my mind works. So I'm going to ask you when
- 26:49Speaker 2: you're sharing a story, or you can tell me the beginning.
- 26:51Speaker 2: I'm denting, dad, and then I'm going to vent that way.
- 26:54Speaker 2: I know I'm not going to fix it. I'm just
- 26:56Speaker 2: there to be your companion and help you vent. So anyways,
- 27:00Speaker 2: I don't know a lot. That was a very cidicuous
- 27:03Speaker 2: way to get there of it. There you go, That's
- 27:05Speaker 2: that's what I think.
- 27:06Speaker 1: And I agree with you. I agree with you because
- 27:09Speaker 1: I we all have a choice. If you don't like
- 27:14Speaker 1: the way something is going, you have to at least
- 27:18Speaker 1: try to turn it in a different direction that's best
- 27:22Speaker 1: for you. I learned a long time ago, because I'm
- 27:26Speaker 1: a life coach, that some people just like attention. They
- 27:29Speaker 1: don't want a resolution, they just like the attention of
- 27:31Speaker 1: it all because I had to drop a client who
- 27:35Speaker 1: always wanted to talk about the same thing over and over,
- 27:38Speaker 1: never did any of the homework that I gave. So
- 27:41Speaker 1: that lets me know that you likes being where you are.
- 27:44Speaker 1: This is not a good fit because I don't double
- 27:46Speaker 1: in excuses. At least show that you're making progress, are
- 27:51Speaker 1: willing to do something to change your environment or situation.
- 27:56Speaker 1: You're wasting my time and your time if you're not
- 27:58Speaker 1: doing the work.
- 28:00Speaker 2: I love that. I don't do excuses. I love that well.
- 28:02Speaker 2: I love that perspective. Get it done, giky, get it done.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, cool. Find a question in the reality chick,
- 28:13Speaker 1: what do people romanticize about healing our success that isn't real?
- 28:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it kind of thinks making me think about your
- 28:25Speaker 2: your journey question and the small things Like I hear
- 28:29Speaker 2: people say, yeah, you know when I get this promotion,
- 28:33Speaker 2: or you know, when I get this tax refund, or
- 28:36Speaker 2: when I if I could only have a few extra
- 28:38Speaker 2: dollars for this or that or the other, then I'd
- 28:40Speaker 2: be happy, right, And I'm like, oh, that's so wrong, right,
- 28:46Speaker 2: you need to you need to go see Kieky right here,
- 28:48Speaker 2: it is right. Find those joys in these small moments,
- 28:52Speaker 2: right enjoy Like, Okay, so I have this, I have
- 28:55Speaker 2: this uh conversation with myself sometimes, like there are certain
- 29:00Speaker 2: I just don't like about being an independent artist. I
- 29:07Speaker 2: have to do social media. I didn't do any social
- 29:10Speaker 2: media before I became an artist. And you can't. You
- 29:13Speaker 2: can't just play at it and you can't be bad
- 29:17Speaker 2: at it, just like you can't be bad at your music. Right,
- 29:22Speaker 2: But I don't like it. You have to do it.
- 29:23Speaker 2: You have to do it in a way. There's a
- 29:25Speaker 2: certain intent that has to be behind it. There's a
- 29:27Speaker 2: branding element. So if you're not a good student of it,
- 29:29Speaker 2: you're going to harm your project. And so I had
- 29:34Speaker 2: to get over myself and get over my objection and like, like,
- 29:38Speaker 2: you should just do it. I don't do excuses, right,
- 29:41Speaker 2: I want to do it. Get good at it, Get
- 29:43Speaker 2: good at it, so you spend less time at it, right,
- 29:45Speaker 2: but get good at it and be a student and
- 29:47Speaker 2: stay a constant student. And so in my mind, I
- 29:50Speaker 2: think there's no one that I know of that's happy,
- 29:56Speaker 2: that doesn't take joy in the small moments and then
- 29:59Speaker 2: the beauty around them. They could be, you know, super
- 30:03Speaker 2: successful financially, or they could be just getting by. But
- 30:07Speaker 2: the people who are happy, they wear it. You can
- 30:12Speaker 2: when you talk to them, they wear it and you're like, oh, yeah,
- 30:15Speaker 2: you're a happy person, right, That person the joy is
- 30:20Speaker 2: not coming from their money right, or their spouse or whatever.
- 30:24Speaker 2: The joy is coming from them and their ability to
- 30:28Speaker 2: enjoy those small moments. So I think, to me, success,
- 30:33Speaker 2: you know, to me, is is someone who's that sort
- 30:38Speaker 2: of wearing that mantle of happiness and compassion to other
- 30:44Speaker 2: people around them, and they're just sort of a balanced person.
- 30:49Speaker 2: And I think that to me, it's not you know,
- 30:52Speaker 2: you're not going to get it thinking oh I need
- 30:55Speaker 2: you know, if I want the lottery, i'd be happy
- 30:57Speaker 2: or whatever. You're not going to get it there, right,
- 31:01Speaker 2: Your success you're going to find you in your everyday life.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Absolutely, I agree, because I think happiness comes from in
- 31:10Speaker 1: like with the self love, self care, self compassion, shelf discovery,
- 31:15Speaker 1: all the things self. You have to take accountability of
- 31:19Speaker 1: your own happiness because putting that on somebody else is unfair.
- 31:23Speaker 1: If you can't be happy with yourself, how can you
- 31:25Speaker 1: expect somebody else to make you happy?
- 31:27Speaker 2: And it lasts yeah, one hundred percent with you. Yeah,
- 31:31Speaker 2: I think that's a good way to think about it. Yeah,
- 31:35Speaker 2: lots of life lessons in there.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Absolutely, absolutely, So. Where can we listen to the music,
- 31:41Speaker 1: how can we support where do you hang out on
