- 0:11Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:14Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex Bars and Lazar, Hello, everybody nailed it?
- 0:19Speaker 1: Joined us always by our Bara. Here is Evan Lazar
- 0:26Speaker 1: and Alex Bars. So starting with the defensive line. We
- 0:30Speaker 1: always joke about this.
- 0:31Speaker 2: You get into the weeds of what's a defensive lineman?
- 0:34Speaker 3: What's an edge defender? Do you even like the terror
- 0:36Speaker 3: manage defender? And now you hate it?
- 0:38Speaker 4: I know who did this year? Madden put it in
- 0:41Speaker 4: the game.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I figured since Mad, since Madden put it into.
- 0:44Speaker 4: The game, I need that.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Why not because I've been telling you it exists for
- 0:49Speaker 3: like five years, But now that it's in Madden, it's
- 0:53Speaker 3: finally on your roster.
- 0:54Speaker 4: No, I'll tell you honestly why I did it. And
- 0:56Speaker 4: this is how I've always felt about edge. I think
- 0:58Speaker 4: where edge is when you go through the draft. There
- 1:01Speaker 4: are guys that, depending on what team drafts them and
- 1:04Speaker 4: what system they'll be playing in, do you have to
- 1:07Speaker 4: call them an edge because you don't know?
- 1:08Speaker 2: Sure.
- 1:08Speaker 4: The thing that always bugged me is once they're on
- 1:11Speaker 4: a team, you know what position they're playing because you
- 1:14Speaker 4: can put them in that system. So it makes it
- 1:16Speaker 4: a little clearer. But we don't exactly know how this
- 1:20Speaker 4: Rabel system is going to use certain guys, so this
- 1:23Speaker 4: might be a one year thing for me. I might
- 1:25Speaker 4: go back next year when we have a better look
- 1:26Speaker 4: at this defense, but for the time being, it can
- 1:29Speaker 4: go either way, so I have use it this year.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Hello everybody, And.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I love our semantics, arguments about positions, about metrics, you know,
- 1:42Speaker 3: about analytics, all that kind of stuff. But edge versus
- 1:46Speaker 3: outside linebacker for us is as og as it gets.
- 1:50Speaker 3: That's that goes back to when we started working with
- 1:52Speaker 3: each other, that we were disputing those two terms. Anyways,
- 1:56Speaker 3: Evan Lazarre, Alex Bart with you guys for the next
- 1:59Speaker 3: couple of hours here we are live today, but I
- 2:02Speaker 3: want to tell everybody what's going on here for the
- 2:05Speaker 3: next couple of weeks because yours truly is getting hitched,
- 2:09Speaker 3: getting married, finally happening, very excited about it. So I
- 2:14Speaker 3: am off for the next couple of weeks to get married,
- 2:18Speaker 3: and that we're going on a honeymoon to Martha's Vineyard
- 2:20Speaker 3: for the week, which is our spot.
- 2:23Speaker 2: So I'm very much looking forward to that gratulation.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you, and so that we're not gonna
- 2:29Speaker 3: have a live show the next two weeks after today,
- 2:33Speaker 3: but we do have something for you because I couldn't
- 2:35Speaker 3: leave you guys hanging completely, And of course my brain
- 2:38Speaker 3: is worried about filling you know, Catch twenty two and
- 2:42Speaker 3: doing Patriots podcast when I'm getting married, which is totally normal,
- 2:46Speaker 3: but that's gonna happen. We're taping that ahead of time,
- 2:51Speaker 3: and then we're still gonna give you guys a show
- 2:53Speaker 3: next Wednesday, it just won't be live like it is today.
- 2:56Speaker 3: So when you see it on YouTube or wherever you
- 2:59Speaker 3: get your podcast, don't call in, don't email in, because
- 3:02Speaker 3: we're not actually live on the air during that show
- 3:04Speaker 3: next week. But we're you're only gonna miss us for
- 3:07Speaker 3: one week, so I feel like that's that's a good thing.
- 3:10Speaker 3: But today's show, we are going to talk about some
- 3:14Speaker 3: of the latest NFL news. Not a ton going on
- 3:16Speaker 3: in patriot Land right now. Frankly, nothing going on in
- 3:19Speaker 3: patriot Land right now. It's completely quiet for the Patriots.
- 3:23Speaker 3: But NFL trade went on obviously earlier this week with
- 3:26Speaker 3: the Dolphins and the Steelers.
- 3:28Speaker 4: I use trades. There is another one yesterday.
- 3:30Speaker 2: There was another one yesterday. Yeah, would I miss it.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Yeah, and I text you about it.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Darren Waller, Oh, Darren Waller, Okay, yeah connected, Yep.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Dolphins made trades on back to back I would love well.
- 3:40Speaker 4: I guess it's technically not back to back days in July.
- 3:42Speaker 4: I would love to know the last team time a
- 3:44Speaker 4: team made back to back trades in like June July.
- 3:47Speaker 2: It's a good question.
- 3:48Speaker 4: Uh.
- 3:49Speaker 3: So we're gonna talk about the We're gonna talk about
- 3:51Speaker 3: some of the more the best available free agents, best
- 3:54Speaker 3: available trade candidates, things like that. I just kind of
- 3:58Speaker 3: talk about some of these names because we try to
- 4:01Speaker 3: break down the Patriots as much as we can, and
- 4:04Speaker 3: I think at this point, after doing our roster projections
- 4:07Speaker 3: over the last couple of weeks, Alex, we've kind of
- 4:09Speaker 3: beaten those storylines to death. I don't think there's really
- 4:12Speaker 3: much else for us to talk about with the current
- 4:14Speaker 3: ninety man roster. So I want to talk about some
- 4:17Speaker 3: names that are in the news, that are being floated
- 4:20Speaker 3: in trade rumors and all that good stuff. So that's
- 4:24Speaker 3: going to be the show today, and then of course
- 4:25Speaker 3: your calls and your emails at eight five five Pats
- 4:29Speaker 3: five hundred and at Patriots. I always forget what the
- 4:33Speaker 3: email is nowadays. Podcasts at Patriots dot com is your
- 4:37Speaker 3: email address. But just to start, I do want to
- 4:39Speaker 3: talk about this Dolphins Steelers trade, not the Darren Waller trade,
- 4:43Speaker 3: but we can get to that. The Dolphins Steelers trade
- 4:46Speaker 3: is Patriots adjacent.
- 4:48Speaker 2: For sure.
- 4:49Speaker 3: It's an AFC's team into Miami Dolphins, of course, but
- 4:52Speaker 3: also the Steelers are on the Patriots schedule. The Patriots
- 4:55Speaker 3: play the Steelers in Week three of the regular season
- 4:58Speaker 3: in September, so it's two opponents that they're gonna see
- 5:01Speaker 3: this year. The Dolphins get back to that good point
- 5:04Speaker 3: in the Dolphins of course twice. So this is three
- 5:07Speaker 3: of the seventeen games on the Patriots calendar is affected
- 5:10Speaker 3: by this trade. And I said this yesterday on PU
- 5:15Speaker 3: and I want to say it again because if you
- 5:18Speaker 3: are a Dolphins fan listening to the show, I don't
- 5:20Speaker 3: know why you would be, but if you were a
- 5:22Speaker 3: Dolphins fan listening to our show, you would say, the
- 5:24Speaker 3: team that's won eight games back to back years, you're
- 5:27Speaker 3: telling us that our team is making bad moves, Like,
- 5:30Speaker 3: maybe worry about your own house before you start pointing fingers.
- 5:32Speaker 2: At everybody else.
- 5:34Speaker 3: But I Besides that point, I really am perplexed by
- 5:40Speaker 3: what the Miami Dolphins are are trying to do. They're
- 5:44Speaker 3: kind of operating to me like a team who's brass
- 5:48Speaker 3: or their head coach and their general manager has job security,
- 5:52Speaker 3: when all of the narratives and all of the reporting
- 5:55Speaker 3: out of Miami is the exact opposite that. Mike McDaniel
- 5:58Speaker 3: and Ri Career, their general manager, are basically as on
- 6:03Speaker 3: the hot seat as the hot seat can get hot.
- 6:05Speaker 3: And Mike McDaniel's like the betting favorite right now to
- 6:08Speaker 3: be the first coach fired in a lot of places,
- 6:11Speaker 3: and yet they're trading away to really productive players for
- 6:14Speaker 3: them and Jalen Ramsey and Johnny Smith, and I understand
- 6:18Speaker 3: there were contract issues and turmoil there with those two
- 6:21Speaker 3: players in terms of their future with the team, but
- 6:23Speaker 3: they get back for it. Mika Fitzpatrick, who towards the
- 6:27Speaker 3: end of last season was starting to look like he
- 6:30Speaker 3: might have lost a step. He could be on washwatch
- 6:33Speaker 3: as we move forward here with Minka, who is a
- 6:35Speaker 3: player we both really like in his prime, but I'm
- 6:38Speaker 3: not sure he's there anymore. And when you look at
- 6:40Speaker 3: this Dolphins roster, I think there's a case that the
- 6:44Speaker 3: Patriots roster might be better than the one in Miami.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Miami certainly has the star power with Hill and Waddle
- 6:49Speaker 3: and Tua, but.
- 6:50Speaker 4: It's not much behind that.
- 6:51Speaker 2: There's not much behind that.
- 6:52Speaker 3: There's not much on the line of scrimmage offensively, especially,
- 6:56Speaker 3: and now they're a secondary without Jalen Ramsey. Their cornerback
- 6:59Speaker 3: room particular looks pretty rough. So what were your general
- 7:03Speaker 3: thoughts on this trade? Because it was kind of a
- 7:05Speaker 3: it was a cool trade. It was an NBA MLB
- 7:08Speaker 3: style trade with players for players. Really, the draft picks
- 7:11Speaker 3: were kind of throw ins in this trade. They're twenty
- 7:13Speaker 3: twenty seven draft picks.
- 7:15Speaker 4: Uh, I mean, I was surprised. I don't unless maybe
- 7:18Speaker 4: the Steelers were having some contract issues with Mika Fitzpatrick,
- 7:22Speaker 4: which I know when we were texting, you would suggest
- 7:24Speaker 4: it might be a thing, But I haven't seen any
- 7:27Speaker 4: reporting on that. Isn't Jalen Ramsey just kind of an
- 7:30Speaker 4: older Minka Fitzpatrick. Now, there'd been some reporting leading up
- 7:36Speaker 4: to this that, separate of Mina Fitzpatrick and Jalen Ramsey,
- 7:40Speaker 4: the Steelers had really wanted to get John new Smith
- 7:42Speaker 4: because Arthur Arthur Smith. They want john Smith downgrading for MIKEA.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Fitzpatrick to Jalen Ramsey just to get yourself John Smith
- 7:49Speaker 4: and John Smith is not the player. He wasn't doing that.
- 7:52Speaker 4: He's better player than that. The Dolphins figured him out
- 7:54Speaker 4: last year all that, he's still not worth that. So
- 7:58Speaker 4: it just I don't really get it from either side. Right,
- 8:01Speaker 4: if you're the Dolphins, you move two good players, and
- 8:05Speaker 4: if you're the Steelers, you just get worse. So I
- 8:07Speaker 4: don't Yeah, it didn't make I guess if you're the Dolphins,
- 8:10Speaker 4: ultimately you get Minka Fitzpatrick, who I think is a
- 8:12Speaker 4: top ten defensive player in football. They have bigger holes
- 8:16Speaker 4: than that. I didn't get it from the Steelers really
- 8:19Speaker 4: unless they really really really wanted Johnny Smith. You look
- 8:21Speaker 4: at their tight end room. Their tight end room kind
- 8:23Speaker 4: of set with Pat at Friarmouth, Darnell Washington, who we
- 8:26Speaker 4: both like, good blocker, feels a look like a hat
- 8:29Speaker 4: on a hat.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Well, I guess we disagree maybe a little bit on
- 8:32Speaker 3: Ramsey versus Fitzpatrick. I think Ramsey's a better player now
- 8:36Speaker 3: than Minka. I just minca towards the end of last season,
- 8:40Speaker 3: let's call it the second half the back half of
- 8:42Speaker 3: the year. Last year really started to show some signs
- 8:46Speaker 3: that he was not the player that he once was
- 8:48Speaker 3: at his peak. His coverage in particular, it seemed to
- 8:51Speaker 3: really take a drop off there Jalen Ramsey. What I
- 8:55Speaker 3: think is appealing about Jalen Ramsey is that he gives
- 8:58Speaker 3: you a really good player at two different spots. You
- 9:01Speaker 3: can play him outside or you can play him at
- 9:03Speaker 3: the star or the nickel position. He might even be
- 9:07Speaker 3: just throughout his entire career, Ramsey might be a better
- 9:10Speaker 3: player in the slot than he is outside. He's a
- 9:13Speaker 3: really dynamic slot corner. So I actually would say, as
- 9:16Speaker 3: of right now, just based off of last year, that
- 9:19Speaker 3: Jalen Ramsey is better player than Mika Fitzpatrick. And then
- 9:23Speaker 3: you also get Johnny, who they clearly like because of
- 9:25Speaker 3: the fit with Arthur Smith, that that's a clear system
- 9:27Speaker 3: fit for them that they really really like. I get
- 9:31Speaker 3: what Pittsburgh's trying to do to me, because what Pittsburgh's
- 9:33Speaker 3: trying to do is they are pushing all these chips
- 9:36Speaker 3: in the middle of the of the pile here and
- 9:38Speaker 3: they are really going for it with Tom and like
- 9:41Speaker 3: Tom Win and in their GMM Omar Kahn. They're operating
- 9:46Speaker 3: like they're on the hot seat, Like that's what like
- 9:50Speaker 3: executives and coaches do that are on the hot seat.
- 9:53Speaker 3: They sign Aaron Rodgers, they trade for DK Metcalf, they
- 9:58Speaker 3: trade for Jalen Ramsey and Johnny Smith. These are win now,
- 10:01Speaker 3: we're all in on twenty twenty five type moves. Now,
- 10:04Speaker 3: with that being said, there's obviously a path where this
- 10:08Speaker 3: blows up and is an absolute disaster in Pittsburgh, just
- 10:11Speaker 3: like it was with the Jets. I think it's a
- 10:13Speaker 3: very similar situation, very similar layout there. It's either gonna
- 10:18Speaker 3: be very successful and they're gonna go on a run
- 10:20Speaker 3: and they're gonna win some playoff games and they're gonna
- 10:22Speaker 3: have a really good year, or it's gonna go the
- 10:24Speaker 3: Jets way and it's gonna completely blow up in their face.
- 10:26Speaker 3: There really doesn't seem to be any in between, but
- 10:29Speaker 3: at least they are they're going for it.
- 10:31Speaker 2: In theory.
- 10:32Speaker 3: The Dolphins are resetting in my mind, like they look
- 10:35Speaker 3: like they're a team that's hitting a reset button here,
- 10:39Speaker 3: and I just don't know if their brass has the
- 10:41Speaker 3: job security. Like I just said at the top, like
- 10:44Speaker 3: I don't understand, if you're Mike McDaniel, you need to
- 10:47Speaker 3: win games like you can't go into next season. And
- 10:50Speaker 3: we were talking about this off the air in particular,
- 10:54Speaker 3: if two gets hurt and two gets hurt, like that's
- 10:57Speaker 3: a If two gets hurt, the Dolphins could be.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Picking in the top five. Especially it's a top five
- 11:01Speaker 2: type of roster without a good quarterback.
- 11:03Speaker 4: With this line, right, I mean, it's it's bad the offense.
- 11:07Speaker 4: And we've talked about that on the show before. The
- 11:09Speaker 4: offensive line is bad. You're not gonna catch me saying
- 11:12Speaker 4: let's give Mike McDaniel the benefit of the dat, you
- 11:14Speaker 4: know that. Like, I think this has been a long
- 11:16Speaker 4: time coming. I think this is the chickens coming home
- 11:18Speaker 4: to roost for Mike McDaniel. This is the logical conclusion
- 11:22Speaker 4: of everything they've been building towards. But yeah, to see
- 11:25Speaker 4: them handle it the way they are, I mean, I
- 11:27Speaker 4: just really don't think there's a recognition of the spot
- 11:32Speaker 4: that they're in. There might be some delusion in that building.
- 11:35Speaker 3: So here here's their starting secondary right now without Jalen Ramsey,
- 11:39Speaker 3: Storm Duck, who is a nice fine by them. He
- 11:43Speaker 3: is an undrafted free agent kind of like an elite name,
- 11:46Speaker 3: one of those guys that.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Was just a nice find.
- 11:48Speaker 4: You know, I liked him in the draft.
- 11:50Speaker 3: That type of player at Feddimofanu, Mika Fitzpatrick cater Coho
- 11:59Speaker 3: and Artie Burns. That that's their starting secondary. And if
- 12:03Speaker 3: you just look at the Patriots and compare that to
- 12:06Speaker 3: Christian Gonzales, Carlton Davis, Mark Marcus Jones, Kyle Dugger, and
- 12:09Speaker 3: Jabrill Peppers, I don't think it's close.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I don't think it's even legitimately and not close.
- 12:14Speaker 4: And then do the offensive line.
- 12:15Speaker 2: So the offensive line in Miami right now, your boy Patrick.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Paul, who is like I like him, but he's a complete.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Projected starting left tackle right down.
- 12:23Speaker 4: For who's behind him, who's really gonna push for that job?
- 12:27Speaker 2: They have exactly Yeah, no, no, Like Larry Boram is
- 12:32Speaker 2: like a good like journeyman veteran. He's somebody that's kicked
- 12:35Speaker 2: the league.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Maybe a little bit better, but yeah, darn low James
- 12:40Speaker 3: Daniels left guard, a free agent signing of Theirs that
- 12:43Speaker 3: they are hoping is going to start. Aaron Brewer is
- 12:45Speaker 3: a good player at center. Jonas Sevani their draft pick
- 12:50Speaker 3: right guard, and then Austin Jackson at right tackle, who's
- 12:53Speaker 3: had a tough, tough career really for them, just has.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Who they got originally when they traded make it ye.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Liam Eikenberg is a kind of their top backup who's
- 13:01Speaker 3: also been sort of a bust for them as a
- 13:02Speaker 3: first round pick, hasn't been very good. So when you
- 13:04Speaker 3: look at their roster outside the skill positions outside of
- 13:09Speaker 3: Wattle Hill to and then they have talent at running back,
- 13:13Speaker 3: you know h Chan, Jalen Wright, you know those guys
- 13:16Speaker 3: are good players. Ollie Gordon drafted there now is like
- 13:19Speaker 3: their bruiser when you look at outside their skill players.
- 13:23Speaker 3: I just don't know how you look at this roster
- 13:24Speaker 3: in Miami and fear anything. And granted the Patriots they
- 13:29Speaker 3: haven't beaten the Dolphins since twenty twenty two. It was
- 13:31Speaker 3: that game up here where it wasn't too It was
- 13:34Speaker 3: a combination of Skyler Thompson and Scoop Untley. Towards the
- 13:38Speaker 3: end of the season, I think I want to say
- 13:40Speaker 3: it was the second to last week of the season
- 13:42Speaker 3: and they went to Buffalo and lost in Buffalo to
- 13:44Speaker 3: knock them out of the playoffs. Officially, it was the
- 13:47Speaker 3: Kyle Duggar picked six game. He had a pick six
- 13:50Speaker 3: late in the game. I want to say it was
- 13:52Speaker 3: in the fourth quarter that tilted the game to the
- 13:55Speaker 3: Patriots that day. But so, four straight losses for the
- 13:59Speaker 3: Patriots against the Dolphins. They've lost eight out of the
- 14:02Speaker 3: last nine to Miami going back a couple of years now.
- 14:05Speaker 3: So the Dolphins has had their number, no, no doubt
- 14:07Speaker 3: about it. We know that two has had their number.
- 14:09Speaker 3: I think that that could change, I really do. This
- 14:12Speaker 3: Dolphins team is sort of in a reset, and I
- 14:15Speaker 3: would even throw this out there. As much as I
- 14:18Speaker 3: think he's an unbelievable player, I'm not entirely sure that
- 14:23Speaker 3: Tyree kill is not on the wrong side of the
- 14:25Speaker 3: I mean, he's.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Not getting any younger.
- 14:26Speaker 2: It's a fair thing to point out, yeah, getting I
- 14:28Speaker 2: think he's a little bit on the back nine as well.
- 14:30Speaker 4: Thirty one years old. The history of wide receivers after
- 14:33Speaker 4: they turned thirty is not great, and some of this
- 14:36Speaker 4: is quarterback play. He had a significant, significant drop off
- 14:40Speaker 4: last year after having a career in twenty twenty three.
- 14:42Speaker 3: So I know, I know I'm being glass half full
- 14:46Speaker 3: right now about saying the Patriots that I would take
- 14:50Speaker 3: the Patriots over the Dolphins because of the history of
- 14:53Speaker 3: these two teams recently, and especially to his history against
- 14:56Speaker 3: the Patriots. But this Dolphins team in the in areas
- 15:00Speaker 3: where it matters, you know, offensive line, secondary, like those
- 15:03Speaker 3: are big, big areas of your football team these days
- 15:07Speaker 3: in the way that the NFL has played. You know,
- 15:08Speaker 3: their first round pick was Kenneth Grant, who's a I
- 15:11Speaker 3: like him as a prospect.
- 15:12Speaker 2: He's got a lot of upside.
- 15:13Speaker 3: And it's similar to how when they drafted Jordan Phillips
- 15:15Speaker 3: and Chop Robinson, Like there are guys that have a
- 15:18Speaker 3: ton of raw talent and they're oozing with athleticism. But
- 15:22Speaker 3: Kenneth Grant Michigan was a little jackal and hide like
- 15:26Speaker 3: they didn't really get him completely to flourish well Michigan.
- 15:32Speaker 4: It's also we talked about this with the Patriots with
- 15:34Speaker 4: Mason Graham. Yeah, I think Kenneth Grant's a really good player.
- 15:37Speaker 4: I think not only was he underrated, he was probably
- 15:41Speaker 4: part of the reason Mason Graham was rated as high
- 15:42Speaker 4: as he was, and he didn't get enough credit for that.
- 15:45Speaker 4: But when you have all these other holes, like defensive tackle,
- 15:49Speaker 4: it's a tough position to truly build around and to
- 15:52Speaker 4: use your first round pick on and get the impact
- 15:54Speaker 4: you want to get out of that pick. So I
- 15:56Speaker 4: really like Kenneth Grant, I do, and I think he'll
- 15:59Speaker 4: be good for them. How much impact are you getting
- 16:02Speaker 4: out of a guy like that, Like he has to
- 16:04Speaker 4: be he basically has to be Jeffrey Simmons right to
- 16:08Speaker 4: justify that pick. That's kind of the apex of that, right,
- 16:11Speaker 4: you know, Aaron Donald's his own thing. Yeah, he's not
- 16:14Speaker 4: gonna play Aaron Donald's three hundred and thirty pounds, Like
- 16:16Speaker 4: he's gonna have to be Jeffrey Simmons type to justify
- 16:19Speaker 4: that pick. What are you really getting on return, even
- 16:22Speaker 4: though he's a good player, just positional value? What return
- 16:24Speaker 4: are you getting on that pick? When you know, I
- 16:26Speaker 4: thought adding an offensive lineman would have made a lot
- 16:28Speaker 4: more sense, or even maybe helping that secondary.
- 16:31Speaker 3: So they are all in on this defensive line. They
- 16:34Speaker 3: have Kenneth Grant their first round pick, Jalen Phillips, Chop Robinson,
- 16:38Speaker 3: these are all.
- 16:39Speaker 4: First those are their first round picks the last three years.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, I believe so. And then Zach Steeler, who's
- 16:43Speaker 3: a really good, underrated player on their interior defensive line,
- 16:47Speaker 3: one of the better, you know, top ten level interior defensive.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Lineman in the league.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Not quite in that Chris Jones, you know, Jalen Carter tier.
- 16:58Speaker 3: That's kind of its own tier, but in next wave
- 17:01Speaker 3: Steelers not too far off.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Phillips has been in the NFL for five years, oh
- 17:04Speaker 4: my god. And then although he was because they didn't
- 17:08Speaker 4: have first round picks for two years. So technically that
- 17:10Speaker 4: is their last three first round picks because they didn't
- 17:11Speaker 4: have one in twenty three or twenty two.
- 17:13Speaker 3: And they still have Bradley Chubb, who I don't know
- 17:15Speaker 3: what they're expecting to get out of him, but they
- 17:17Speaker 3: still have Bradley Chubb. So their defensive line and their
- 17:20Speaker 3: front seven is other than their wide receivers, of course,
- 17:23Speaker 3: is the strength of their team right now. But I
- 17:25Speaker 3: look at these other areas of their roster and and
- 17:27Speaker 3: see a lot of a lot of holes in Miami,
- 17:29Speaker 3: and I just am wondering if these two guys McDaniel
- 17:33Speaker 3: and Greer are going to be the ones that ultimately
- 17:35Speaker 3: are making the long term decisions in Miami, Because if
- 17:38Speaker 3: they have a five win season, they win six games
- 17:41Speaker 3: next year, if two, it gets hurt and they, you know,
- 17:43Speaker 3: some of these holes that I see and we see
- 17:45Speaker 3: end up coming to fruition and costing them. Then I
- 17:49Speaker 3: could see them picking in the top five at least
- 17:51Speaker 3: the top ten and then as McDaniel and Greve and
- 17:53Speaker 3: there to make those choices. So weird trade from a
- 17:57Speaker 3: Miami perspective in my mind, and then they they kind
- 18:00Speaker 3: of doubled down on the weirdness a little bit. I
- 18:02Speaker 3: got why they made the trade for Darren Waller after
- 18:05Speaker 3: trading Johnny Smith, because our old friend Pharaoh Brown was
- 18:09Speaker 3: their projected starting tight end immediately after.
- 18:12Speaker 4: I don't know that, like Darren Waller's thirty two was
- 18:14Speaker 4: out of football last year. I don't know that he's
- 18:16Speaker 4: definitively an upgrade over Pharaoh Brown. That's a lottery ticket
- 18:19Speaker 4: to me, if anything.
- 18:20Speaker 3: So they trade for Darren Waller, who was, like you said,
- 18:22Speaker 3: out of football. I don't know if it was all
- 18:26Speaker 3: just football related. He went through a messy divorce, very
- 18:29Speaker 3: public divorced with Kelsey plumba plays in the WNBA, and
- 18:33Speaker 3: he kind of had what looked like from the outside
- 18:36Speaker 3: looking and he kind of had a little bit of
- 18:38Speaker 3: a meltdown and and ended up taking the year off football.
- 18:42Speaker 2: So he comes back.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Oh and by the way, had maybe one of the
- 18:45Speaker 3: funniest wrap videos of all time on the beach. Yeah
- 18:50Speaker 3: that he that he published as a result of that divorce.
- 18:53Speaker 3: So he comes back. Darren Waller is traded from the
- 18:59Speaker 3: New York Giants to the Miami Dolphins. So now Darren
- 19:03Speaker 3: Waller is the Dolphins starting tight end in theory thoughts.
- 19:06Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's I don't know that he is
- 19:09Speaker 4: there starting tight end. That's competition. The track record of
- 19:13Speaker 4: guys coming back after year out is not great. He's
- 19:15Speaker 4: thirty two years old, He's dealt with injuries. Yeah, I
- 19:18Speaker 4: don't think Ferrwell Brown's like a horrible player.
- 19:21Speaker 2: He's not horrible.
- 19:22Speaker 3: He's definitely a better blocker than like, Darren Waller is
- 19:24Speaker 3: a big receiver. He's not your traditional hand in the
- 19:27Speaker 3: dirt to get well.
- 19:28Speaker 4: I saw somebody tweeted something like Darren Waller is a
- 19:30Speaker 4: perfect fit for the Dolphins because he retired when they
- 19:34Speaker 4: tried to make him block inside and the Dolphins refused
- 19:37Speaker 4: to do anything physically.
- 19:39Speaker 3: He's got a little bit of that Johnnys Smith's ability
- 19:41Speaker 3: of like if you're gonna move the pocket and be
- 19:44Speaker 3: that West Coast style and all those types of things
- 19:46Speaker 3: he can make.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Look, when he was on, he was a tremendously tremendously
- 19:50Speaker 4: talented player. That was just a long time ago. And
- 19:52Speaker 4: I think, you know, hoping you're getting that is a
- 19:56Speaker 4: pipe dream. He's just he's a lottery ticket. It's not
- 19:59Speaker 4: necessarily a bad law ticket. They gave up what a
- 20:01Speaker 4: conditional sixth round pick. I don't necessarily think it's a
- 20:03Speaker 4: bad move. I just would you be surprised if we
- 20:06Speaker 4: get to like mid August and we found out he's
- 20:08Speaker 4: not gonna make the team.
- 20:09Speaker 2: No, because we don't know, We don't know what he is.
- 20:13Speaker 3: The last one, I guess we can sit here and
- 20:15Speaker 3: have an example of is is Gronk retiring with the
- 20:19Speaker 3: Patriots and then coming back with Tampa. But Gronk came
- 20:22Speaker 3: back with Tampa with Brady, So it's a little bit
- 20:25Speaker 3: different in that respect. And then also, you know Gronka
- 20:28Speaker 3: towards the end, and I don't remember exactly, you know,
- 20:31Speaker 3: obviously I have a better understanding of Gronk's history than
- 20:35Speaker 3: Darren Wallace. But with Gronk, his body after twenty eighteen
- 20:41Speaker 3: was unplayable. I mean, his his back, his leg, he
- 20:45Speaker 3: had that big giant bruise.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Remember that he was.
- 20:49Speaker 3: His entire body was in shambles. He was done and
- 20:54Speaker 3: obviously he was done playing in New England as well.
- 20:56Speaker 3: So there's just a couple of different factors there with Gronk.
- 20:59Speaker 3: But he comes back after a year of resetting his
- 21:02Speaker 3: body to play with his quarterback, to play with Brady.
- 21:05Speaker 3: This is a little bit of a different situation for
- 21:07Speaker 3: Darren Waller. But maybe Darren Waller comes back and and
- 21:10Speaker 3: is the Darren Waller at least for another year. For Gronk,
- 21:13Speaker 3: it was it was like a year or two that
- 21:14Speaker 3: he that he was a factor in Tampa Bay. So
- 21:18Speaker 3: maybe Darren Waller can do the same thing. But interesting
- 21:21Speaker 3: trade from a dolphin's perspective. From the Steelers' perspective, just quickly,
- 21:24Speaker 3: here here's the look at the Steelers starters. I really
- 21:29Speaker 3: like what Pittsburgh has done in theory outside of Rogers.
- 21:33Speaker 3: If they had anybody else at quarterback that made me
- 21:37Speaker 3: feel any better about that situation. Besides Rogers, you know,
- 21:40Speaker 3: DK metcalf, Robert Woods, Calvin Austin, but they have Roman Wilson,
- 21:45Speaker 3: who I really liked in the draft last year. Who
- 21:47Speaker 3: got hurt in his rookie training camp. He's coming back
- 21:50Speaker 3: from injury, so he's going to be in the mix
- 21:52Speaker 3: as well. Their offensive line, I don't know if it's great,
- 21:56Speaker 3: but they have Troy Fotto who they just drafted, Broderick
- 21:59Speaker 3: Joe so they just drafted. So they have two first
- 22:01Speaker 3: round picks, recent first round picks in twenty three and
- 22:04Speaker 3: twenty four at left and right tackle. There you mentioned
- 22:08Speaker 3: the tight end room is really good on paper. I
- 22:10Speaker 3: mean Frimrith and Johnny Smith and Darnel Washington's a really
- 22:14Speaker 3: good combination there at tight end. And then Jalen Warren
- 22:18Speaker 3: and Caleb Johnson sort of their one two punch at
- 22:21Speaker 3: running back. And that brings us to the defense, which
- 22:23Speaker 3: I wanted to kind of segue into this other part
- 22:27Speaker 3: of this discussion. This trade goes down Ramsey and Johnny Smith.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Not all that different than what's going on in Pittsburgh
- 22:35Speaker 3: with TJ.
- 22:36Speaker 4: Watt.
- 22:36Speaker 3: TJ Watt wants a new contract, Jalen Ramsey wanted out
- 22:39Speaker 3: of Miami. Johnny Smith wanted a new contract with the
- 22:42Speaker 3: Dolphins that he didn't get.
- 22:43Speaker 2: So TJ. Watt now is.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Sitting there with this Steelers situation. Everything the Steelers have done,
- 22:51Speaker 3: trading for Ramsey, trading for DK, signing Rogers, all this
- 22:56Speaker 3: stuff signals that the Steelers want to be all in
- 22:58Speaker 3: on twenty five. So to then go ahead and trade
- 23:01Speaker 3: your best defensive player, maybe your best player on your
- 23:04Speaker 3: entire team and TJ. Watt doesn't make a whole lot
- 23:07Speaker 3: of sense. But at the same time, it hasn't resolved.
- 23:10Speaker 3: The situation hasn't resolved. He still needs a new contract,
- 23:12Speaker 3: he still doesn't have a new contract. And should the
- 23:15Speaker 3: Patriots be interested if he is available.
- 23:17Speaker 4: I mean they should. I just all believe it when
- 23:19Speaker 4: I see it. I don't think he's going to be
- 23:20Speaker 4: available for all the reasons you just said. But if
- 23:22Speaker 4: he doesn't have a contract, he doesn't have a contract.
- 23:24Speaker 4: If I'm the Steelers, I'm running this out into the
- 23:26Speaker 4: regular season. Like if he can't get on the field
- 23:29Speaker 4: till October, fine, I'd be okay with that, But I
- 23:33Speaker 4: mean not okay with it, but like it's it's better
- 23:35Speaker 4: than trading him. But if he is available yet, he'd
- 23:38Speaker 4: be a great We talked about with his Patriots defense,
- 23:41Speaker 4: like we really like the secondary they've got some intriguing
- 23:44Speaker 4: player as a linebacker. They've brought in some good, complimentary
- 23:48Speaker 4: pass rushers, you know, compared to like the wide receiver
- 23:50Speaker 4: room right, guys that are good capitalizing off the opportunities
- 23:54Speaker 4: created by a leader. But they don't have that lead
- 23:57Speaker 4: pass rusher, just like they don't have that number one
- 23:59Speaker 4: wide receiver. They don't have their Matthew Judon. You plug TJ.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Watt into this, and now calebon Chason's gonna have a
- 24:05Speaker 4: bunch of one on ones like he did opposite Max
- 24:07Speaker 4: Crosby last year. Harold Landry's gonna have a bunch of
- 24:10Speaker 4: one on ones. You're gonna get to let some of
- 24:12Speaker 4: these younger guys pin their ears back Braden Swinson right.
- 24:16Speaker 4: It completely changes the dynamic, completely changes the dynamic of
- 24:19Speaker 4: the defense that we already think might be pretty good.
- 24:21Speaker 4: So whether Tim I know we'll get to Trey Hendrickson,
- 24:25Speaker 4: I think Trey Hendrickson I could see leaving. I think
- 24:28Speaker 4: Trey Hendrickson's more realistic than TJ. Watt if I had
- 24:31Speaker 4: I don't think either of them leave. But if I
- 24:33Speaker 4: had to pick one that I think will become available,
- 24:35Speaker 4: I think it's Hendrickson. Either one of those guys though,
- 24:38Speaker 4: Like that's that that would be the move the Patriot
- 24:41Speaker 4: should be in on that.
- 24:42Speaker 3: It's very similar in a lot of ways to how
- 24:44Speaker 3: we look at their wide receiver room with the Patriots,
- 24:47Speaker 3: it's you have some guys that can make some plays,
- 24:50Speaker 3: but do.
- 24:50Speaker 2: You have that alpha number one?
- 24:53Speaker 3: Yeah, that's gonna draw the attention, that's gonna draw the
- 24:56Speaker 3: Tuesday matchup. That's gonna be that type of player. And
- 25:00Speaker 3: in the pass rush they might have that in the interior,
- 25:03Speaker 3: like Christian Barmore Milton Williams might be Tuesday players. You
- 25:06Speaker 3: know they if both those guys hit, If Christian Barmore
- 25:09Speaker 3: gets back to the way he was pre blood clots
- 25:12Speaker 3: and Milton Williams is as good as his potential and
- 25:15Speaker 3: his flashes in Philadelphia showed that he was, then that
- 25:18Speaker 3: is a Tuesday player type of build of building block
- 25:21Speaker 3: right there where teams are gonna have to worry about
- 25:24Speaker 3: on the interior, how are we going to block these
- 25:25Speaker 3: two guys? And maybe that's enough to tilt the scales
- 25:28Speaker 3: where the outside doesn't have as many resources for double
- 25:32Speaker 3: teams or chips or slides, you know, presiding protections and
- 25:35Speaker 3: things all that fancy stuff.
- 25:36Speaker 4: They got to play a really really high level to
- 25:39Speaker 4: make that reality. So T J.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Watt would be the finishing piece, no doubt about it.
- 25:43Speaker 3: He'd be the icing on the cake there to kind
- 25:47Speaker 3: of really round out this line. And I think he's
- 25:49Speaker 3: a great fit for the style that Rabel wants to play,
- 25:52Speaker 3: just this upfield more of a splash play player at
- 25:56Speaker 3: his peak than he is, you know, somebody that's just
- 25:58Speaker 3: going to like consistently, you know, hold the edge and
- 26:01Speaker 3: press the pocket and that kind of thing. That's maybe
- 26:04Speaker 3: the one reason, and I want to get to Hendrickson separately,
- 26:07Speaker 3: but like it might be the one reason why I
- 26:09Speaker 3: favor Watt a little bit more over Hendrickson because Henderson,
- 26:12Speaker 3: to me is a really sturdy, consistent player, really good,
- 26:17Speaker 3: really good player. But he's not necessarily this like flashy
- 26:21Speaker 3: up the field player. He's more of like a push
- 26:25Speaker 3: the pocket, finish sacks, finish rushes, you good two way player,
- 26:30Speaker 3: really solid, but not necessarily a big time playmaker behind
- 26:35Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage, like what forts his fumbles, he
- 26:38Speaker 3: makes plays against the run, he pressures the quarterback. Obviously
- 26:42Speaker 3: much more splashier player in my mind, but I don't
- 26:47Speaker 3: know if he'll be available now. The one thing that
- 26:49Speaker 3: I wanted to throw out there because fake trade machine
- 26:51Speaker 3: here for a second, how what is the compensation realistically
- 26:56Speaker 3: for TJ Watt?
- 26:57Speaker 4: Didn't some Pittsburgh radio guy in like April Reporter is
- 27:03Speaker 4: gonna be a second round pick, So I might be
- 27:06Speaker 4: imagining that hang.
- 27:07Speaker 2: On second or third round pick feels about.
- 27:10Speaker 4: Right as a third round pick yet done.
- 27:13Speaker 3: He's thirty years old, and he needs a new contract,
- 27:15Speaker 3: and those two factors, even though he's a great, great player,
- 27:19Speaker 3: those two factors always matter in the league. They always
- 27:22Speaker 3: matter when you have a guy that's aging and a
- 27:25Speaker 3: guy that wants a big money contract, those two things
- 27:28Speaker 3: are going to coincide to hurt the compensation.
- 27:32Speaker 2: The deal.
- 27:32Speaker 3: And this goes for Hendrickson as well. Max Crosby just
- 27:36Speaker 3: signed a three year deal worth one hundred and six
- 27:39Speaker 3: million dollars. Yeah, sixty two point five million guaranteed. It's
- 27:42Speaker 3: right around thirty five million a year.
- 27:44Speaker 4: Now.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Max Crosby's twenty seven, TJ Watt's thirty, So there's a
- 27:47Speaker 3: difference in age there, but I think at the bare
- 27:50Speaker 3: minimum for TJ Watt, you're talking about twenty five million
- 27:54Speaker 3: a year and maybe even pushing thirty. So that's probably
- 27:58Speaker 3: what he's looking for, I would say.
- 28:02Speaker 4: So here's where I'm at with that.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Like that, my point is that whoever trades for him
- 28:05Speaker 3: is gonna need to give him a contract too, sure,
- 28:07Speaker 3: otherwise here gonna be in the same position as the
- 28:09Speaker 3: Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 28:10Speaker 4: No, you're you're obviously I'm not trading for him to
- 28:14Speaker 4: like as a one year rental like you. If you're
- 28:17Speaker 4: giving up that much, you're giving him a contract. Let's
- 28:19Speaker 4: put that in there. Over the cap. Has the Patriots
- 28:23Speaker 4: with sixty point six million dollars in cap space.
- 28:26Speaker 2: They have that's not an issue. It's not a cap space.
- 28:28Speaker 4: Nobody else has more than forty five. Is this real?
- 28:34Speaker 4: Or in the red next year? How's that possible? No,
- 28:37Speaker 4: that's not all right anyway. The point being this is,
- 28:40Speaker 4: this is the whole thing about the rookie contract for
- 28:42Speaker 4: the quarterback. This is this is what you do like
- 28:45Speaker 4: you can. I wouldn't want what on the books past
- 28:49Speaker 4: when you're gonna be extending Drake Man, but I don't
- 28:53Speaker 4: think that's gonna be an issue. Right, So you have
- 28:55Speaker 4: this year will be your two, Next year will be
- 28:58Speaker 4: your three year four Even if you want to play
- 29:01Speaker 4: with the fifty year option, it probably wouldn't be a
- 29:03Speaker 4: lot of guaranteed money. You could probably even stretch it
- 29:05Speaker 4: to four years if you really want to, as long
- 29:07Speaker 4: as he's off the books by or maybe you take
- 29:09Speaker 4: one year back to make wiggle room for the Christian
- 29:11Speaker 4: Zales extension. But if you have him off the books
- 29:16Speaker 4: by the time you have to pay Gonzalz you have
- 29:18Speaker 4: to pay may. You don't have any big contracts on
- 29:20Speaker 4: the books, right, Who are they paying? Who are their
- 29:23Speaker 4: pending FRA agent this offseason that's going to get a
- 29:25Speaker 4: big fat contract? I think? Correct me if I'm wrong.
- 29:28Speaker 4: I think their biggest penning phragan is Marcus Jones.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Sounds right, which I.
- 29:32Speaker 4: Like Marcus Jones and he's a good player. He's not
- 29:35Speaker 4: realistically a guy that's breaking the bank.
- 29:37Speaker 2: So Milon Williams is definitely their biggest contract.
- 29:40Speaker 4: But he's on the books now. Yeah, he's accounted for, right, So.
- 29:43Speaker 2: You're saying guys are adding gotcha?
- 29:45Speaker 4: Yeah yeah right. So it's not something that like if
- 29:50Speaker 4: you could you have the flexibility to pay him, you
- 29:52Speaker 4: have the wiggle room to pay him and get him
- 29:54Speaker 4: on the books for a little bit, even if you
- 29:56Speaker 4: have to overpay, because you have the flexibility the rookie
- 29:58Speaker 4: quarterback contract. Use that to bolster the rest of the
- 30:01Speaker 4: roster to make it easier on Drake May so that
- 30:05Speaker 4: when it is time for him to be the guy,
- 30:07Speaker 4: he already knows what it looks like to win, depending
- 30:11Speaker 4: on the season. Klevon Chase on has Marcus Jones is
- 30:14Speaker 4: their biggest pending free agent.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Uh, can I throw another crazy trade idea at you?
- 30:19Speaker 4: Yeah, just real quick. Austin Hooper, Cole Strange, Marcus Jones,
- 30:23Speaker 4: Klevon Chase, On, Jalen Hawkins. Those are really they're only starters,
- 30:29Speaker 4: guys that we think are going to be starters that
- 30:30Speaker 4: are going to be free agents next year unrestricted.
- 30:33Speaker 2: They have a couple of r fas, So TJ.
- 30:35Speaker 3: Watt and I again, I think you can throw Trey
- 30:39Speaker 3: Hendrickson similar, similar idea, similar concept with both those players.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Yeah, this all applies to.
- 30:45Speaker 3: This is purely speculative. Purely speculative. If the Steelers called
- 30:51Speaker 3: you and said, we are gauging the market for t J. Watt, Yeah,
- 30:57Speaker 3: we want a third round picking Keyon White. Oh, because
- 31:04Speaker 3: to me This is happening more and more. We just
- 31:07Speaker 3: saw Ramsey and Fitzpatrick get traded for you know, player
- 31:09Speaker 3: for player Ramsey and John who for Fitzpatrick. It's happening
- 31:14Speaker 3: a little bit more in the league now that players
- 31:16Speaker 3: are getting involved in some of these trades. They're not
- 31:18Speaker 3: just straight up picks. The Steelers clearly want to win now,
- 31:22Speaker 3: They're clearly a win now mode. You send them ke
- 31:25Speaker 3: On White, who can be a starter for them on
- 31:26Speaker 3: their defensive line, and the Patriots get a guy that's
- 31:29Speaker 3: a little bit more proven and has a little bit
- 31:32Speaker 3: more uh splashed to his name into his game. I
- 31:35Speaker 3: would say it in Keon White and and really more
- 31:38Speaker 3: of a pure four to three rush linebacker, like not
- 31:43Speaker 3: necessarily the tweeter that Keon White is as well, would
- 31:46Speaker 3: you do it if you're the Patriots?
- 31:50Speaker 4: As much as like, how's it going? I want to
- 31:54Speaker 4: see Keon White's defense. I think this defense is a
- 31:57Speaker 4: great fit for him. I think it's gonna unlock a lot.
- 31:59Speaker 4: I think he's gonna be awesome. But as somebody who
- 32:01Speaker 4: is such an affinity for the mystery box or the boat, take,
- 32:05Speaker 4: don't I kind of have to take what or Hendrickson, like,
- 32:09Speaker 4: Keon White could be anything. He could even be.
- 32:12Speaker 3: Yeah, he's twenty six, so he's obviously much younger.
- 32:15Speaker 4: Than Yeah, this guy. But like, was it a third
- 32:19Speaker 4: round pick in one of those guys.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Yeah, let's call it a third round pick and Keon
- 32:23Speaker 3: White for Water or Hendrickson.
- 32:28Speaker 4: I think I'm take cornered. I think I have to
- 32:29Speaker 4: do it because I'm I'm it's the mystery box or
- 32:32Speaker 4: the boat.
- 32:33Speaker 2: It's fun because.
- 32:35Speaker 3: You can see it from both sides, and like I said,
- 32:39Speaker 3: these trades are becoming a little bit more popular now
- 32:41Speaker 3: where the Steelers or the Bengals are trading the best
- 32:45Speaker 3: player in the trade, there's no doubt about that. But
- 32:47Speaker 3: they're at least getting somebody back that's a starting caliber player,
- 32:51Speaker 3: so they're not completely deviat of talent at that position now.
- 32:57Speaker 3: So it helps out both sides by doing something like that.
- 33:00Speaker 3: I really love the idea. It's you're right, it's a
- 33:02Speaker 3: mystery box versus boat. I love the idea of Kean White.
- 33:05Speaker 3: He's much more affordable, he's much younger. Those things are
- 33:08Speaker 3: obviously factors in all of this, but for a team
- 33:11Speaker 3: like the Patriots, it does feel a little bit premature
- 33:15Speaker 3: to trade for water Hendrickson because you're not truly in
- 33:18Speaker 3: the window yet.
- 33:19Speaker 2: You're you're you're right outside the window, like the window.
- 33:22Speaker 2: You're cracking the window open.
- 33:23Speaker 4: Yeah, but I know you're not getting a lot closer
- 33:26Speaker 4: to the window. I think that's gonna be good for
- 33:28Speaker 4: Drake May's development. I think it's gonna be good for
- 33:30Speaker 4: Mike Rabel. They win more games with an established pass
- 33:34Speaker 4: rusher on the roster. We are not in tank territory anymore.
- 33:38Speaker 4: We should not be worrying about the draft pick. I
- 33:40Speaker 4: posted the other day. I posted the other day. Uh
- 33:46Speaker 4: EA Sports put out the rankings for the college football
- 33:49Speaker 4: the overall ratings for the players for this year's game,
- 33:51Speaker 4: which drops on Monday, and I posted the wide receiver
- 33:55Speaker 4: rankings because my guy Jordan Tyson is third behind Ryan
- 33:58Speaker 4: Williams and Jeremiah Smith, and savage friend of the program replied,
- 34:03Speaker 4: I'm waiting for the twenty twenty seven draft and like,
- 34:06Speaker 4: don't get me wrong, those guys are great. But here's
- 34:07Speaker 4: the thing. If they're picking high enough that they can
- 34:11Speaker 4: draft Ryan Williams or Jeremiah Smith, there are much, much,
- 34:14Speaker 4: much bigger problems at hand, and they probably shouldn't be
- 34:17Speaker 4: drafting a wide receiver to begin with, so unless they
- 34:20Speaker 4: make some crazy trade. So like, we need to be
- 34:22Speaker 4: done with the draft stuff. We need to be done
- 34:24Speaker 4: with the will is the window open or is it not?
- 34:26Speaker 4: Like I know they're not gonna Probably this one trade
- 34:28Speaker 4: won't make them contenders for a Super Bowl. They need
- 34:31Speaker 4: to be focused on winning as many football games as possible.
- 34:34Speaker 4: That's what matters now. Building that winning culture, building that
- 34:36Speaker 4: winning environment. Having some of these young players Drake May,
- 34:39Speaker 4: Christian Zalez, Will Campbell understand what it takes to win
- 34:43Speaker 4: in this league, and winning regularly in this league and
- 34:45Speaker 4: win against high level opponents in this league. In a
- 34:48Speaker 4: player like TJ Watt or a player like Trey Hendrickson
- 34:51Speaker 4: is going to help you do that, and that needs
- 34:53Speaker 4: to be the priority right now.
- 34:54Speaker 3: I would do it. That's why I threw it out there.
- 34:57Speaker 3: I didn't throw it out there to say I wouldn't
- 34:58Speaker 3: do it. That would be silly.
- 35:00Speaker 4: I do that all the time. You can absolutely do that.
- 35:01Speaker 2: No, I would do that trade. I would make that trade.
- 35:04Speaker 4: I would. It wouldn't be easy. It wouldn't be easy.
- 35:07Speaker 4: It wouldn't be it.
- 35:08Speaker 3: It has absolutely nothing to do with it's writing it
- 35:11Speaker 3: is going to be a good player. I just look
- 35:13Speaker 3: at it from the Patriots perspective, kind of like what
- 35:16Speaker 3: you're saying. I feel as though that expedites things a
- 35:19Speaker 3: little bit, and it also in a lot of ways
- 35:22Speaker 3: takes some pressure off of Drake May because there's a
- 35:25Speaker 3: lot riding right now, in my opinion, as we look
- 35:27Speaker 3: ahead the training camp and all that kind of stuff.
- 35:30Speaker 3: We talk a lot about in the off season, their
- 35:31Speaker 3: draft and their free agent additions, and rightfully so, but
- 35:35Speaker 3: at this point of the season, at this point of
- 35:37Speaker 3: the offseason, the dust has kind of settled on all
- 35:40Speaker 3: of that, and now you just realize, if Drake May
- 35:43Speaker 3: is not the guy, then their poor kind of anyways, right,
- 35:46Speaker 3: and then we're going back into the carousel in four
- 35:48Speaker 3: or five years. A great way to support your young
- 35:50Speaker 3: quarterback is obviously to stack the roster with as much
- 35:52Speaker 3: talent around him as possible. A young quarterback TJ Water,
- 35:57Speaker 3: Trey Henderson puts their defense into good to potentially great turk.
- 36:01Speaker 4: I think, I mean health and all that. Right, you
- 36:04Speaker 4: add one of those guys and I think we can
- 36:05Speaker 4: legitimately talk about them being a top five defense I
- 36:08Speaker 4: think right now, top tens realistic, Hendrickson, top five, Williams.
- 36:11Speaker 4: You had a guy like.
- 36:13Speaker 3: Landry as your front four with Davis and Gonzo and
- 36:16Speaker 3: the two safeties in the back.
- 36:18Speaker 4: I mean, that's just studs. It's just everywhere.
- 36:20Speaker 2: It's great. It's a great roster.
- 36:21Speaker 4: You're talking about a top five defense out. When's the
- 36:23Speaker 4: last time a team with the top five defense didn't
- 36:25Speaker 4: make the playoffs?
- 36:26Speaker 2: That's a good question. Ask chat at UBT. They'll tell you.
- 36:30Speaker 3: The other trade person trade candidate I wanted to get
- 36:34Speaker 3: to before we move on here is Terry McLaurin in Washington.
- 36:40Speaker 3: Out of all of the players that we've talked about,
- 36:42Speaker 3: I would probably rank McLaurin as the least likely to
- 36:45Speaker 3: get traded. Out of these three guys, Watt, Hendrickson, McLaurin,
- 36:48Speaker 3: I probably go from order of least likely to most
- 36:51Speaker 3: likely McLaurin, Watt Hendrickson. I think Hendrickson has the most
- 36:55Speaker 3: likely odds of getting traded because it since An and
- 37:00Speaker 3: the Bengals have paid everybody so far. They paid to Higgins,
- 37:03Speaker 3: they paid Jamar Chase, they played Burrow. I don't know
- 37:06Speaker 3: how much more money is going to be printed in
- 37:07Speaker 3: Cincinnati at this point to give to Trey Hendrickson. So
- 37:11Speaker 3: McLaurin I think is a long shot to get dealt
- 37:13Speaker 3: but he does want a contract. He has been holding
- 37:16Speaker 3: out throughout the spring. We'll see if he continues to
- 37:19Speaker 3: hold out in training camp, but he wants a new deal.
- 37:23Speaker 3: If I'm Washington, I'm doing it. I'm figuring it out.
- 37:26Speaker 3: The last thing that you want to do to Jaden.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Daniels is take away his best receiver in his second season.
- 37:30Speaker 4: It would be beyond moronic of the You kind of
- 37:34Speaker 4: have to give him what he wants. It goes back
- 37:36Speaker 4: to what I said about the rookie contract. This is
- 37:38Speaker 4: the benefit just bugged me out the Sports Sub.
- 37:40Speaker 3: Show, and Polly p. Paul is on the Sports Ub
- 37:44Speaker 3: talking about the exact same thing.
- 37:47Speaker 4: You have the quarterback on a rookie deal. I'm not
- 37:48Speaker 4: saying give Terry McLaurin like a five year Oh yeah,
- 37:51Speaker 4: that was that lower third say, should the Patriots consider
- 37:53Speaker 4: trying to trade for t J water c Literally the
- 37:55Speaker 4: exact same converce energy We should have done across or
- 38:00Speaker 4: you should have. But again, you're the commanders. You have
- 38:04Speaker 4: the financial flexibility. The quarterback on a rookie contract. They
- 38:06Speaker 4: would be idiots to not give him what he wants.
- 38:12Speaker 4: And you add more money for shorter term if you're
- 38:14Speaker 4: worried about the term, but you have to pay him,
- 38:18Speaker 4: all right. You want to who the last top five
- 38:19Speaker 4: defense was to not make the playoffs. Yes, it's kind
- 38:22Speaker 4: of a no duh thing. What team in the NFL
- 38:25Speaker 4: would manage to have a top five defense and still
- 38:27Speaker 4: not make the playoffs?
- 38:29Speaker 2: Top five defenses still not make the playoffs?
- 38:31Speaker 4: Oh even they were seven and four and then lost
- 38:33Speaker 4: their last six games. What team does that sound like?
- 38:38Speaker 2: I don't even know.
- 38:40Speaker 4: Patriots Division, the Jets, Yeah, Jets, the twenty twenty two Jets,
- 38:45Speaker 4: but like that's an asterisk because that's the Jets and
- 38:47Speaker 4: they could screw anything up. So I'm back to twenty
- 38:49Speaker 4: twenty one. I still haven't found anybody yet. Top two
- 38:52Speaker 4: defenses in football twenty twenty one Patriots and Bills.
- 38:56Speaker 3: So pulling up on the Terry McLaurin front, which is
- 39:00Speaker 3: I don't want to.
- 39:00Speaker 4: Broncos didn't twenty two one, so it's been a few years.
- 39:03Speaker 4: But like, you have a top five defense, you're probably
- 39:04Speaker 4: gonna make the playoffs.
- 39:05Speaker 3: I want to belabor this one because I really don't
- 39:07Speaker 3: think mclaurin's gonna get dealt. But no, DK Metcalf went
- 39:10Speaker 3: for a second round pick from Seattle to Pittsburgh this offseason,
- 39:14Speaker 3: second round draft pick. I know you're a huge DK guy.
- 39:19Speaker 3: I believe mclaurin's a better player than DK, but that
- 39:23Speaker 3: would seem to be the floor.
- 39:24Speaker 4: He is definitely a better fit for uh mcdan Kingles offense.
- 39:29Speaker 3: Yeah, that would be the floor in my mind from
- 39:32Speaker 3: McLaurin at the bare minimum would be a second round pick,
- 39:35Speaker 3: and it might take more. It might be even even
- 39:38Speaker 3: more than that. But to go back to my I.
- 39:42Speaker 4: Think he's worth the same as Metcalf. I would do
- 39:44Speaker 4: the Metcalf deal for McLaurin.
- 39:46Speaker 2: So I think he's a little bit better a player.
- 39:49Speaker 2: But if you're it's.
- 39:50Speaker 4: Also later in the process players aren't worth as much.
- 39:52Speaker 3: He's twenty nine and in Metcalf's a little bit younger. Yeah,
- 39:55Speaker 3: that might be the only the only difference. Mclaurin's a
- 39:58Speaker 3: better player, better route, a more well rounded player. You know,
- 40:02Speaker 3: DK is an awesome field stretcher, but that's what he is.
- 40:05Speaker 3: He's a one trick pony. Deep threat, really really good
- 40:08Speaker 3: at it. It's one hundred and two mile an hour
- 40:11Speaker 3: up in the zone, right like it's a great fastball.
- 40:14Speaker 2: But that's that's what he's good at.
- 40:16Speaker 3: McLaurin just awesome player, just great route runner, great at
- 40:19Speaker 3: the catch point, tough as nails, competitive, just great football.
- 40:24Speaker 4: I've always said this not to revisit the twenty nineteen draft,
- 40:27Speaker 4: but like as much as people bemoan that, and they
- 40:30Speaker 4: could have had AJ Brown, they could have had DK Metcalf,
- 40:33Speaker 4: they were never drafting. They were never Deebo Samuel. They
- 40:36Speaker 4: were never drafting those guys. Those guys, and look, you
- 40:40Speaker 4: can argue, given their track record, maybe they should have
- 40:45Speaker 4: done things differently than what their traditional philosophy was, but
- 40:48Speaker 4: they're what their philosophy was at the time. AJ Brown,
- 40:52Speaker 4: DK Metcalf, Deebo Samuel didn't fit the philosophy, didn't fit
- 40:56Speaker 4: the mold of the kind of receivers they drafted. You
- 40:58Speaker 4: know who did, Terry Laurin. He was a great gunn right,
- 41:02Speaker 4: he played all four downs. I think it was a
- 41:03Speaker 4: multi year team captain if I remember correctly at Ohio State.
- 41:06Speaker 4: That was the only thing that didn't fit the mold.
- 41:08Speaker 4: Is in draft Ohio State.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Guys, but that's probably why I haven't drafted them.
- 41:11Speaker 4: I've always said this, like, if we're gonna just look
- 41:13Speaker 4: at it objectively, the real miss in twenty nineteen is
- 41:16Speaker 4: Terry McLaurin because he checked so many of their boxes.
- 41:20Speaker 4: The other guys went on to be great, and yeah,
- 41:21Speaker 4: would have been great if they drafted them, but it
- 41:23Speaker 4: would have been so out of character. They could have
- 41:25Speaker 4: drafted Terry McLaurin gotten obviously better player Thanikhil Harry, but
- 41:30Speaker 4: that also he was what is he a fourth round pick?
- 41:32Speaker 2: Third round pick?
- 41:33Speaker 4: It wouldn't have been out of character for them to
- 41:35Speaker 4: draft a guy like that. Here's a third round It
- 41:38Speaker 4: just kind of a side take I've always did. He's
- 41:40Speaker 4: always been the big miss to me from twenty nineteen.
- 41:43Speaker 3: Here's a third round pick, and he was a unreal
- 41:48Speaker 3: elite gunner yep. In college. He didn't catch the ball
- 41:51Speaker 3: of time at Ohio State. It's obviously always a keep saying.
- 41:54Speaker 3: Obviously today it was a crowded room. Of course it
- 41:58Speaker 3: always isn't at Ohio State. But he didn't have a
- 42:00Speaker 3: ton of college production. But I remember the little bit
- 42:03Speaker 3: of film that he did have in college was really good.
- 42:05Speaker 3: And then on top of that, you could watch his
- 42:07Speaker 3: gunner tape and watch how he got off the line
- 42:10Speaker 3: of scrimmage and how he built speed covering punts and
- 42:12Speaker 3: see how that was going to translate to press coverage
- 42:16Speaker 3: in the NFL, and you could just tell that this
- 42:17Speaker 3: guy was going to be able to get off press
- 42:19Speaker 3: and be really good at all that type of stuff.
- 42:21Speaker 3: So Terry McLaurin, twenty nine years old, needs a new contract,
- 42:25Speaker 3: wants a new contract. This one's easier to swallow, I
- 42:28Speaker 3: would say, than dealing keyon White. But there's a trade
- 42:32Speaker 3: that's similar. If you hear the Patriots you trade a
- 42:34Speaker 3: second round pick in kaish On Booty for Terry McLaurin.
- 42:36Speaker 4: I would do that.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Maybe they would ask for Bourne instead, that's up to that.
- 42:41Speaker 3: I would do that, But I think those ones are
- 42:42Speaker 3: much easier to stomach than And it's.
- 42:44Speaker 4: The Brandan and Ayuk trade was a second a future
- 42:47Speaker 4: fourth in Kendrick Bourne, and you want to make that
- 42:51Speaker 4: kaish On Booty instead, Like I think that's and I'm
- 42:53Speaker 4: not like willingly parting ways with either of those guys.
- 42:56Speaker 4: Everybody knows how big of a Kendrick Borne fan I am,
- 42:59Speaker 4: But for Terry McLaurin, I would do that.
- 43:01Speaker 3: I wonder if if they would which way Washington would go.
- 43:04Speaker 3: Kendrick Bourne more veteran player, They're in a win now
- 43:08Speaker 3: situation with the commanders, But Kaishon Boody's got a little
- 43:11Speaker 3: bit more upside. He can run the vertical routes that
- 43:14Speaker 3: Jaden Daniels is really good at throwing. So I actually
- 43:16Speaker 3: would say that that Kashon Booty is probably a better
- 43:18Speaker 3: fit for the style of offense.
- 43:20Speaker 4: You know.
- 43:20Speaker 3: It also helps that it's the LSU offense and they
- 43:22Speaker 3: played at LSU, right, So there's a lot of things
- 43:25Speaker 3: that to me would say Kashan Booty is probably a
- 43:27Speaker 3: better fit for Washington than Kendrick Bourne. I just don't
- 43:30Speaker 3: know if they would go with unproven versus maybe a
- 43:33Speaker 3: little bit more proven in which route they would want
- 43:35Speaker 3: to go there. But the I E Trade a second,
- 43:39Speaker 3: a future fourth and one of those two receivers born
- 43:43Speaker 3: Er Booty for McLaurin, I'm in. I do that if
- 43:45Speaker 3: I was the Patriots. Yeah, so that's your trade candidates.
- 43:49Speaker 3: I want to really quickly before we opened it up
- 43:51Speaker 3: to you guys, I did write down some free agents.
- 43:53Speaker 3: It's not no one that's available for in free agency
- 43:56Speaker 3: right now is going to change much. We put that
- 43:58Speaker 3: out there, but I just wanted to off ten names
- 44:01Speaker 3: and if any of these names catch your eye, these
- 44:03Speaker 3: were the sort of the looking at positions of need
- 44:06Speaker 3: for the Patriots and who's available. These are kind of
- 44:08Speaker 3: the top guys that I came up with. Raeul Douglas,
- 44:11Speaker 3: Javion Clowney, Eric Kendricks, Brandon Sheriff, Kazer White, Justin Simmons,
- 44:17Speaker 3: Defan Gilmore, Matt Judon, Carl Lawson, Will Hernandez Guard any
- 44:22Speaker 3: of those names? Would you be interested in the Patriots
- 44:24Speaker 3: bringing it?
- 44:24Speaker 4: Shoot run head again quick Russeul Douglas, j Davian Clowney, Ye,
- 44:30Speaker 4: Eric Kendricks, Brennan Sheriff, Kazier White, Justin Simmons, who I
- 44:36Speaker 4: like free safety Stefan Gilmore, Judan, Will Hernandez. I mean,
- 44:41Speaker 4: I've liked Simmons too, but the fact this is a
- 44:45Speaker 4: second year in a row he's been available this late
- 44:47Speaker 4: in the process, right, It's weird.
- 44:48Speaker 3: It's like maybe he just doesn't want to do training camp.
- 44:50Speaker 3: I don't know, but he's.
- 44:51Speaker 4: Kind of older, he's dealt with injury. He wasn't very
- 44:53Speaker 4: good last year, was he not great? You know who's
- 44:58Speaker 4: the one guard you mentioned in there, Brandon Sheriff. I
- 45:01Speaker 4: wouldn't hate. I'm always down to bring back Stephan Gilmour.
- 45:04Speaker 4: I don't really know what he does for them at
- 45:07Speaker 4: this point. Honestly, you're not gonna play him inside. It's
- 45:10Speaker 4: kind of like we talked about your Alexander last week.
- 45:12Speaker 4: You're not gonna play Gilmore inside. You're not gonna play
- 45:14Speaker 4: Gonzalez inside, You're not gonna play Carlton Davis inside. I
- 45:17Speaker 4: don't know that Gilmore is coming for a depth role.
- 45:19Speaker 4: I just want him and Christian Gonzalez in the same room,
- 45:22Speaker 4: just so Gonzalez can learn from him. So I'm not
- 45:24Speaker 4: a post to that. I just don't ultimately know what
- 45:26Speaker 4: that looks like or what the incentive is for Gilmore
- 45:29Speaker 4: to come here. Yeah, nothing really stands out to me
- 45:33Speaker 4: on that list.
- 45:34Speaker 3: So the one guy that does stand out to me
- 45:36Speaker 3: a little bit is Sheriff. Now, he's a career right guard.
- 45:40Speaker 3: He's played on the right side of his entire career.
- 45:43Speaker 3: He has definitely started to tail off years older. He's
- 45:46Speaker 3: an older player, he's thirty three going on thirty four.
- 45:50Speaker 3: But at the same time and in the interior equivalent
- 45:54Speaker 3: of Morgan Moses, it feels a little bit like that.
- 45:56Speaker 3: He's a very very good player for a long period time,
- 46:00Speaker 3: who is a veteran, consummate pro type of player, really well,
- 46:04Speaker 3: really highly regarded.
- 46:06Speaker 2: At his peak, he was one of the best guards
- 46:07Speaker 2: in football. He's not that anymore.
- 46:09Speaker 3: If the Patriots get into a position two weeks into
- 46:11Speaker 3: training camp and we're sitting at here and we're still
- 46:15Speaker 3: talking about left guard being this hole that they don't
- 46:18Speaker 3: really have a great fit for. If they get Brandon
- 46:23Speaker 3: Sheriff on board to switch from right to left and
- 46:26Speaker 3: play left guard for a year and do the whole
- 46:29Speaker 3: stopgap bridge thing with Brandon Sheriff for a year, I'd
- 46:32Speaker 3: be in on that. I don't think it's something that
- 46:34Speaker 3: they would do immediately in training camping. This is a
- 46:37Speaker 3: Zeke Elliott situation where they get to that joint practices
- 46:41Speaker 3: in Minnesota, realize that left guard is really a problem,
- 46:44Speaker 3: and they go and yeah, the move that type of
- 46:46Speaker 3: thing you'd have to I would be a little bit
- 46:50Speaker 3: weary of the position switch. He'd have to be on
- 46:52Speaker 3: board with it, but if he wants to play, it's
- 46:55Speaker 3: a starting position that's available to him to play at
- 46:58Speaker 3: and the Patriots can compensate him. So that's the one
- 47:01Speaker 3: player that stood out to me on that list. But
- 47:03Speaker 3: that's it. That's pretty much what's available right now, other
- 47:06Speaker 3: than the trades, which I think are a little bit
- 47:08Speaker 3: pie in the sky for just in general. I don't
- 47:10Speaker 3: know if any of those guys are getting moved. It's
- 47:12Speaker 3: not exactly like you're going to make a huge impact
- 47:16Speaker 3: change to your roster on July second, which isn't totally surprising.
- 47:20Speaker 3: But at the same time, or Ramsey and Fitzpatrick and

- 48:58Speaker 5: Hey, can you guys hear me?
- 48:59Speaker 6: Well?
- 48:59Speaker 2: We got not much.
- 49:02Speaker 6: So first off, I just want to say Evan, congrats
- 49:05Speaker 6: on getting married. Thank you, you know big time. And
- 49:09Speaker 6: you said you're having your honeymoon at Martha's Vineyard.
- 49:11Speaker 7: It's a great place.
- 49:13Speaker 6: Never been, but I've seen a lot of cool pictures.
- 49:16Speaker 6: But what I want to get to is, uh, my
- 49:19Speaker 6: question for you guys is have you noticed anything about
- 49:23Speaker 6: Remondre Stevenson's reports are that he has lost a tremendous
- 49:27Speaker 6: amount of weight and it's looking a lot more swimmer.
- 49:31Speaker 6: I don't know if he's trying to fit like a
- 49:32Speaker 6: scheme like the Spaniels on or if it's just his
- 49:37Speaker 6: personal opinions.
- 49:38Speaker 3: Thank you, guys, Thanks, thanks for the call, and I
- 49:40Speaker 3: appreciate the positives about the wedding. Yes, the remonder I
- 49:45Speaker 3: I always have a tough time with guys. You know,
- 49:48Speaker 3: do they look like they're skinnier because they're not in
- 49:50Speaker 3: pads in this timing year, right, so it can make
- 49:54Speaker 3: a difference about I.
- 49:55Speaker 4: Don't know about like tremendous amount of weight is not.
- 49:57Speaker 2: I would say tremendous.
- 49:58Speaker 3: He looked good in the spring, though he moe looked
- 50:01Speaker 3: like he was in I would say he looked like
- 50:02Speaker 3: he was in shape. I don't know if that means
- 50:04Speaker 3: that he would lost all this weight, but he looked
- 50:06Speaker 3: like he was in shape.
- 50:06Speaker 4: Well, he's also he's been pretty much constantly hurt the
- 50:09Speaker 4: last two years. He might it just might be that
- 50:11Speaker 4: he's fully healthy. It could be as simple as that,
- 50:13Speaker 4: like he and he's been dealing with ankles and knees
- 50:15Speaker 4: and things like that. You know my spiel on this,
- 50:18Speaker 4: they they ran him into the ground in the last
- 50:20Speaker 4: two years. They ran him into the ground and it
- 50:21Speaker 4: took its toll. Sounded like he kind of really refreshed
- 50:25Speaker 4: this offseason. We know he's gonna come in. We think
- 50:27Speaker 4: he's gonna come in, I should say, with the lighter
- 50:28Speaker 4: workload this year with Josh McDaniels. I wonder if he's
- 50:31Speaker 4: just moving better and like he definitely lost a little
- 50:33Speaker 4: bit of weight. I shouldn't say it's not that, but
- 50:36Speaker 4: I wonder if he's moving better. I wonder if he's
- 50:38Speaker 4: just healthy and we haven't seen him look like this
- 50:40Speaker 4: in a couple of years because he hasn't been help
- 50:42Speaker 4: He really hasn't been healthy since Training Camp twenty twenty three.
- 50:45Speaker 4: It's probably the last time he was healthy.
- 50:46Speaker 3: He looked like he was in shape. I don't We'll
- 50:48Speaker 3: see what it looks like with the pads. I'm also
- 50:50Speaker 3: not the greatest eyetest guy when it comes to is
- 50:53Speaker 3: this guy overweight underweight?
- 50:54Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 50:55Speaker 3: I don't I don't try to read scales, you know
- 50:58Speaker 3: I have. I have no clue. But it looked to
- 51:01Speaker 3: me like he was in shape. He looks spry, he
- 51:03Speaker 3: looked fresh, like you said, which he should this time
- 51:06Speaker 3: of year. But just an aside, it related to this,
- 51:10Speaker 3: and I know I shouldn't do this and I shouldn't care,
- 51:12Speaker 3: but there's nothing else to do. So I was scrolling
- 51:15Speaker 3: as you do on social media, and PFF put out
- 51:19Speaker 3: their top running back rooms one through thirty two.
- 51:23Speaker 2: Any guess where the patriots were?
- 51:25Speaker 4: They had them like annoyingly loa didn't they?
- 51:27Speaker 2: Yeah, he did.
- 51:29Speaker 4: You need to stop encouraging these people.
- 51:31Speaker 2: So I think I can pull it up real quick.
- 51:33Speaker 4: So they have like twenty five, twenty six.
- 51:35Speaker 2: Oh, this is just running backs.
- 51:37Speaker 3: I'll pull it up in a second, but I believe
- 51:39Speaker 3: that they were thirty yeah, twenty something like twenty three,
- 51:45Speaker 3: twenty four, something like that. So here it is Baltimore's
- 51:49Speaker 3: number one. I mean, yes, Philly is number two. Yeah,
- 51:53Speaker 3: that makes sense.
- 51:57Speaker 4: Like I don't know the Patriots need to be top ten,
- 51:58Speaker 4: but they shouldn't be bottom ten, so they were. They
- 52:02Speaker 4: just don't know about land Larson yet. That's the thing.
- 52:04Speaker 3: So I want to say I can't find the exact list,
- 52:07Speaker 3: of course, now I want to say, oh, unit ranks.
- 52:09Speaker 2: Here it is.
- 52:09Speaker 3: Okay, I'm sorry, this is a terrible radio But Baltimore
- 52:12Speaker 3: number one, yeah, Derrick Henry, Detroit number two with Gibbson Montgomery.
- 52:17Speaker 3: They have the Falcons at number three with Bijehon and
- 52:20Speaker 3: Tyler Algier.
- 52:21Speaker 4: Tyler Algiers slept on. I don't know that i'd put
- 52:23Speaker 4: them ahead of Philly. I think Barkley alone clears, but
- 52:27Speaker 4: Tyler Algeers they slept on player. I don't hate that.
- 52:29Speaker 3: Take Philly at four, yeah, Barkley, Seattle at five. That
- 52:33Speaker 3: was your top five?
- 52:35Speaker 4: Okay.
- 52:36Speaker 3: The Patriots on this list were twenty second.
- 52:40Speaker 4: Who are they?
- 52:42Speaker 2: This is like, who's below them.
- 52:44Speaker 4: You mean, know who's ahead, Who's like just ahead of them?
- 52:46Speaker 2: New Orleans, Tennessee with with who?
- 52:48Speaker 4: With who?
- 52:49Speaker 3: New Orleans Alvin Kamara, Kendre Miller, Clyde Edwards, z Laer,
- 52:54Speaker 3: Devin Neil. They drafted Devin Neil, Tennessee Hollard and Taja
- 52:58Speaker 3: Spears Houston. Would they signed Nick Chubb this offseason? Damian
- 53:03Speaker 3: Pierce what he Mark's draft pick? Dolphins who we talked
- 53:06Speaker 3: about earlier at Hn and Jalen Wright, the Jets, Breeze Hollow,
- 53:09Speaker 3: Braylen Allen, It's good combo Colets, Jonathan Taylor, Khalil Herbert,
- 53:15Speaker 3: get Ins in the fifth round. Chargers who drafted Hampton
- 53:20Speaker 3: signed Najie Harris.
- 53:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know, there's a lot of good running
- 53:24Speaker 4: back rooms in the league. Maybe maybe that was too
- 53:25Speaker 4: harsh there.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Twenty seconds seems low.
- 53:27Speaker 4: It seems low, But like, I don't know that I'd
- 53:29Speaker 4: put them behind any of those groups. So in some
- 53:33Speaker 4: head of any of those groups.
- 53:34Speaker 3: In some respects, I get it. Remandra is coming off
- 53:36Speaker 3: a down year. The fumbling was a problem.
- 53:38Speaker 2: We know that.
- 53:40Speaker 3: I am cautiously optimistic that they're going to fix the
- 53:42Speaker 3: fumbling problem. A combination of better blocking and Frabel. Rabel
- 53:47Speaker 3: and McDaniels, I think are gonna have a really heavy
- 53:48Speaker 3: influence on helping him with that. Sub consciously optimist about
- 53:51Speaker 3: the fumbling, and I understand that Travon Henderson's an unknown,
- 53:54Speaker 3: he's a rookie, he's not proven.
- 53:57Speaker 2: We don't know yet what he's going to be in
- 53:59Speaker 2: the league.
- 54:00Speaker 3: That's fair, but in theory, because I believe Vermandre is
- 54:04Speaker 3: gonna bounce back. I think he's gonna clean the fumbles up.
- 54:07Speaker 3: I think he's gonna have a better year. I don't
- 54:08Speaker 3: know if it will be twenty twenty two where you
- 54:10Speaker 3: have fourteen hundred yards, but I think he's gonna have
- 54:12Speaker 3: or is that twenty three, whichever year that was. I
- 54:14Speaker 3: think he's gonna have a better year. And I'm really
- 54:17Speaker 3: bullish on Trayvon Henderson.
- 54:18Speaker 2: And I think most people are. I think he's gonna
- 54:20Speaker 2: be a really good pro in a role. I don't
- 54:22Speaker 2: know if he's gonna be a workhorse.
- 54:23Speaker 3: I don't know if he's gonna be a lead back,
- 54:25Speaker 3: but used correctly, which I have fate that McDaniels will
- 54:28Speaker 3: use him correctly. Trayvon Henderson's gonna be an impact player
- 54:30Speaker 3: in the league. So that's a pretty darn good tandem
- 54:34Speaker 3: if you were expecting a better version of Ramandre Stevenson
- 54:39Speaker 3: and then everybody everybody did, all the national media, all
- 54:43Speaker 3: everybody loves Trevon Henderson.
- 54:45Speaker 2: Now all of a sudden, they're twenty second in the league.
- 54:47Speaker 2: It's it's low. It feels low.
- 54:49Speaker 4: It does feel low.
- 54:50Speaker 2: So I would have had them a little bit higher.
- 54:53Speaker 3: I'm not saying that they should have been top five
- 54:55Speaker 3: or anything like that, but you know, Washington, for example,
- 54:58Speaker 3: is fourteen with Brian Robinson and Austin Eckler. Is is
- 55:03Speaker 3: Washington's running back room really that much better than the
- 55:06Speaker 3: Patriots or does Washington just have Jayden Daniels who just
- 55:09Speaker 3: makes their running game that much better. It's one of
- 55:12Speaker 3: those things to me. You know, Vegas is thirteen, it's
- 55:16Speaker 3: just off of Ashon genty.
- 55:19Speaker 4: If Vegas gonna be thirteen, just off of Ashon genty
- 55:21Speaker 4: and the Patriots should be higher.
- 55:22Speaker 2: They have genty and the Avraheem moster that that's their
- 55:25Speaker 2: their one two d.
- 55:26Speaker 4: That I'd almost put the Patriots ahead of that because
- 55:30Speaker 4: the Patriots unknown as the second guy, the Raiders unknown
- 55:33Speaker 4: as much as I like Genty, he's an unknown, he's
- 55:34Speaker 4: a rookie, is the first guy? Yeah that that's too high.
- 55:38Speaker 4: I'm a genty guy.
- 55:39Speaker 2: Lill low pff, we'll low all right. DC is in
- 55:42Speaker 2: New Hampshire. What's up, DC, Hey guy?
- 55:46Speaker 5: Two quick points to throw at you.
- 55:48Speaker 8: This first one total July off season point, and that
- 55:53Speaker 8: is Punta Rena's.
- 55:54Speaker 5: Chile, which is at the bottom tip of Chile.
- 55:57Speaker 8: Rid above Antarctica. They're winters during our summer right now,
- 56:00Speaker 8: it's like thirty degrees snowing, raining, windy. The multi billion
- 56:05Speaker 8: dollar Patriots organization should be renting a soccer field, throwing
- 56:08Speaker 8: up some upright and flying our kickers down for a
- 56:12Speaker 8: week during mini camp.
- 56:13Speaker 9: No need to.
- 56:14Speaker 8: Freeze the indoor facility or kick in freezers. Is a
- 56:19Speaker 8: beautiful city, That's what I think. Still, my actual actual
- 56:24Speaker 8: point is I wanted to make a quick Drake May
- 56:27Speaker 8: Josh Allen comp which is very original, I know, but
- 56:31Speaker 8: more so in their career trajectory. I think their rookie
- 56:34Speaker 8: years were actually kind of similar the big trait, but
- 56:37Speaker 8: some things to clean up, and Alan did that in
- 56:41Speaker 8: his second year, but it wasn't really until year three
- 56:43Speaker 8: that he really made his stamp on the league. So
- 56:46Speaker 8: I think there's a lot of local media high for
- 56:48Speaker 8: a year to leave whatever that means from Drake May.
- 56:51Speaker 8: And I think some silly people who I won't name
- 56:54Speaker 8: names will freak out, like if he does anything less
- 56:56Speaker 8: than like four thousand yards thirty five touchdowns. But I
- 56:59Speaker 8: think Drake May actually does hit his feeling, like I
- 57:02Speaker 8: think all of us think he is capable of doing
- 57:05Speaker 8: his trajectory. I think it's much more likely to be
- 57:08Speaker 8: Josh Allen than like a Burrow Lamar thing. And so
- 57:12Speaker 8: Josh Allen year two is like three thousand yards twenty tds.
- 57:17Speaker 5: May looked really.
- 57:18Speaker 8: Good in the second half of that year, and I
- 57:20Speaker 8: think if you see that from Drake May next year,
- 57:22Speaker 8: you're thrilled, And I would love to. I think that's
- 57:27Speaker 8: more realistic and I'd be pumped for that. But congrat
- 57:30Speaker 8: seven getting married, best of Buck.
- 57:33Speaker 3: Thanks you a goud Thanks DC, you appreciate it. So
- 57:35Speaker 3: Josh Allen your two which I know you love.
- 57:37Speaker 4: This compound by the way, real quick, forty degrees in
- 57:40Speaker 4: raining And it's a great suggestion, Punta Arenas.
- 57:44Speaker 2: It's a great suggestion.
- 57:44Speaker 3: Maybe they should fly him out there like the beginning
- 57:46Speaker 3: of training camp, because you know you can do without
- 57:49Speaker 3: the kickers for a couple of days in training camp
- 57:51Speaker 3: and let them go down there.
- 57:52Speaker 4: But then how are we going to get with it
- 57:54Speaker 4: out or do I get to go.
- 57:55Speaker 3: Down Yeah we can, we can send you down there
- 57:56Speaker 3: on the on the charter. So Josh Allen in your
- 57:59Speaker 3: two just to play out the exercise. Three thousand eighty
- 58:04Speaker 3: nine yards right over three thousand yards passing, twenty touchdowns,
- 58:08Speaker 3: nine picks. He had over a little bit over five
- 58:12Speaker 3: hundred yards rushing. I think that's important to put in
- 58:14Speaker 3: there as well. So basically like thirty five hundred yards
- 58:16Speaker 3: of offense. And so he did have nine rushing touchdowns,
- 58:21Speaker 3: So he had twenty nine total touchdowns if you add
- 58:23Speaker 3: the rushing touchdowns to the passing touchdowns.
- 58:26Speaker 2: So pretty good numbers.
- 58:27Speaker 3: Now, he was under sixty percent completion still, he was
- 58:31Speaker 3: at fifty eight point eight.
- 58:34Speaker 2: In my mind, I.
- 58:37Speaker 3: Believe Drake Mays ahead of this already. These numbers are
- 58:40Speaker 3: more In my opinion, I think Drake May's ahead of
- 58:43Speaker 3: this pace. Now I'm not saying he's gonna be an MVP.
- 58:46Speaker 3: I'm just saying that he's if you're comparing it to
- 58:49Speaker 3: year one, year two, Josh Allen, I would say that
- 58:51Speaker 3: Drake May is already ahead of three thousand yards and
- 58:54Speaker 3: twenty touchdown passes. Now how far I don't know. The
- 58:58Speaker 3: big thing with Allen in year two is that the
- 59:00Speaker 3: Bills went ten and six and made the playoffs. They
- 59:02Speaker 3: were a much better team with him in the second
- 59:05Speaker 3: season compared to the first season. He was five and
- 59:07Speaker 3: six as a starter in his first season with the Bills,
- 59:10Speaker 3: started eleven games, and then he was ten and six
- 59:12Speaker 3: and started the full season and they made the playoffs.
- 59:15Speaker 2: So would you be good with that?
- 59:18Speaker 3: It's that line three hundred three thousand yards, twenty touchdowns,
- 59:21Speaker 3: nine picks, five hundred yards on the ground.
- 59:25Speaker 4: As long as there's not too many fumbles to go
- 59:27Speaker 4: with those picks, yeah, it'd be great.
- 59:28Speaker 2: The fumbles is an interesting one.
- 59:29Speaker 4: I've said that, just like keep it under a turnover again.
- 59:35Speaker 3: Josh ever really having issues with fumbles. I'll get to
- 59:38Speaker 3: it here in a second.
- 59:39Speaker 4: I can find it.
- 59:40Speaker 2: So he did.
- 59:41Speaker 3: He did, Actually he fumbled the ball. Wow, if this
- 59:44Speaker 3: is right, he fumbled the ball fourteen times his second season.
- 59:47Speaker 4: Well, I'm guessing that's fumbles and not fumbles lost. Correct,
- 59:50Speaker 4: it's just total fumbles fourteen plus nine. That's a little high.
- 59:54Speaker 2: Now, No, not all of them were lost, but yeah.
- 59:57Speaker 4: I know. But solus nine that's twenty three times he
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: put the balls in arms WAI versus twenty touchdowns. I
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: guess we got to give him rushing to twenty nice
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: is twenty nine total touchdowns, twenty three times putting the
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: ball in arms. Way, I wouldn't love it. It'd be better. Yeah, fumble,
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: that's that fumble.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: I mean, that's a ton of fumbles. I didn't realize
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: he had.
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: He's always had a fumble problem. You just have your
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: blinders on.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: No, I knew he had to pick problem.
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: He always had a fumble problem too. Apparently, will some
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: of us watch him objectively and dow that.
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: I just you know, now, the other big thing about
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: Josh Allen in year two I should mention that I
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: think it is important in this Drake May conversation. He
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: had four or fourth quarter comebacks in five game winning drives. Yeah,
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: so that's so he was a little bit more.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: He was clutch.
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: They gotta win more games.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he won more games. Warm light.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: All right, let's get back to the phones. Randy is
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: in Providence. What's up, Randy? Randy?
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: Randy?
- 1:00:55Speaker 10: Hey, Hello, I got sorry beep it in my earlier
- 1:01:00Speaker 10: So congratulations on getting married. Evan joined the parade of congratulations.
- 1:01:06Speaker 10: I called. I wanted to talk about the Miami Pittsburgh
- 1:01:08Speaker 10: trade for a minute there, because I think it's a
- 1:01:10Speaker 10: strange I think it's like a strange trade where both
- 1:01:12Speaker 10: teams kind of lose a little bit. I think Miami
- 1:01:16Speaker 10: like is on I've been saying for a couple of
- 1:01:20Speaker 10: months now. I think they're on the verge of like
- 1:01:21Speaker 10: a complete meltdown. I think next season they're gonna have
- 1:01:24Speaker 10: a new coach, new GM. We're going to be hearing
- 1:01:26Speaker 10: a lot of stories about the locker room issues and
- 1:01:28Speaker 10: stuff like that, because like the story I heard coming
- 1:01:32Speaker 10: out of Miami was that Ramsey and Hill were at odds.
- 1:01:36Speaker 10: Ramsey felt like Hill was treated a little too softly.
- 1:01:39Speaker 9: And that's that's kind of what costs the fallout there.
- 1:01:42Speaker 9: But I mean, if you look across the roster, they've
- 1:01:45Speaker 9: lost two of their other pack full team captains and
- 1:01:49Speaker 9: Armstead retiring and plays Campbell.
- 1:01:52Speaker 10: Returning to Arizona. But that and Johnny Smith being part
- 1:01:57Speaker 10: of that trade. He was a nineteen point five percent
- 1:02:00Speaker 10: target share in Miami last year. They don't really have
- 1:02:03Speaker 10: anybody to replace that. I mean, Darren Waller coming in
- 1:02:05Speaker 10: is great, but his peak was like five years ago.
- 1:02:09Speaker 10: But I think more importantly on the other side, I
- 1:02:12Speaker 10: guess with Pittsburgh is that it's just the Pittsburgh team
- 1:02:16Speaker 10: is becoming like a weird fit team, right, like a
- 1:02:18Speaker 10: bunch of big names and stuff. But how do they
- 1:02:21Speaker 10: fit together? Because like DK Metcalf has always been kind
- 1:02:24Speaker 10: of a go ball guy, right, a deeper out guy
- 1:02:27Speaker 10: last year twenty first in the league with thirteen point
- 1:02:30Speaker 10: one a dot. Meanwhile, Rogers on the other side of
- 1:02:34Speaker 10: that hasn't had average air yards per throw over eight
- 1:02:41Speaker 10: since twenty nineteen. So I mean that's a contrast there,
- 1:02:49Speaker 10: just alone. But then he's also not really well known
- 1:02:52Speaker 10: for throwing to the tight end a lot. And so
- 1:02:56Speaker 10: with Fryarmuth there, who seventeen percent of the targets there
- 1:02:59Speaker 10: in Pittsburgh last here, and Johnny Smith coming in, it's
- 1:03:02Speaker 10: like the top three weapons there that Rogers game just
- 1:03:05Speaker 10: doesn't melt well with. But I have one question Patriots
- 1:03:11Speaker 10: related for you guys, as we're coming off this, I've
- 1:03:13Speaker 10: heard a lot of people with a lot of like
- 1:03:18Speaker 10: I would think, overly positive projections around Treyvon Henderson and
- 1:03:22Speaker 10: kind of his workload, almost to the point of like
- 1:03:26Speaker 10: can he be a feature back type of guy? And
- 1:03:28Speaker 10: I'm just wondering what in his history people are looking
- 1:03:32Speaker 10: at because I'm looking at his college production and once
- 1:03:36Speaker 10: they brought in Quinn Shawn Judkins, and he didn't have
- 1:03:39Speaker 10: to be that feature back, Like he's a perfect running
- 1:03:43Speaker 10: back by committee guy. He's great for that. But you
- 1:03:46Speaker 10: look at twenty twenty three, he was getting fifteen and
- 1:03:49Speaker 10: a half attempts per game. His yards per attempt was
- 1:03:52Speaker 10: five point nine. Twenty twenty four, when his attempts went
- 1:03:56Speaker 10: down to just nine a game, his yards per attempt
- 1:03:59Speaker 10: went up to seven point one. We saw him get
- 1:04:02Speaker 10: a little bit more involved in the receiving game and
- 1:04:05Speaker 10: more importantly stop missing games. He was injured a lot
- 1:04:08Speaker 10: when he was carrying a lot of that load. So
- 1:04:10Speaker 10: I'm just wondering, what is it just like kind of
- 1:04:13Speaker 10: rose colored glasses for people looking at a second round
- 1:04:16Speaker 10: draft pick hoping for you know, kind of like a
- 1:04:19Speaker 10: steal and a feature back out of it, or is
- 1:04:22Speaker 10: there anything specifically in Trayvon Henderson's history that you guys
- 1:04:25Speaker 10: look back and say, Yeah, I think he could, you know,
- 1:04:29Speaker 10: carry that load, because to me, I see him as
- 1:04:31Speaker 10: more of like a comp to like a Devon h
- 1:04:34Speaker 10: Chain out of Miami who ten twelve times the games
- 1:04:38Speaker 10: he touches the ball. But there are games he goes
- 1:04:41Speaker 10: for like one hundred and fifty yards and it's like, wow,
- 1:04:43Speaker 10: you know that's so I'd like to hear you guys'
- 1:04:46Speaker 10: thoughts on that.
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a it's a great call. It's a great call, Randy,
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: and it's a good cop. Chan's not a bad top. Yeah,
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: I rue with him. I don't necessarily get caught up
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: with Travon Henderson in terms of volume or counting stats.
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: I don't know how any touches he's going to have.
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: I don't know how many accumulated yards, even if you
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: want to call it scrimmage yards combined rushing in and receiving,
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: he's truly gonna have. What I'm more interested with Travon
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: Henderson or two stats yards per touch, Like how many
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: yards is he making every time.
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: He touched the ball in explosive place?
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: Like?
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: Those are the two things I'm looking at for Travon Henderson.
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: He might not touch the ball two hundred times, maybe
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: it's only one hundred and fifty one seventy five, but
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: if he's averaging eight nine ten yards per touch, then
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: I'm gonna be really happy about the season that he's having.
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: And I think that that's sort of the thing that
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: people are hoping for, is that he's going to be
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: a high impact, low volume or medium volume player in
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: terms of touches, but a high impact player every time
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: he touches the ball.
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, He's not a workhorse. He's not, and McDaniels
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: doesn't use a workhorse. He's going to be the change
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: of pace back and that's it's a it's a good
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: role for him. It goes back to our point about
- 1:05:56Speaker 4: Stevenson ding to kind of be the guy that they
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: lean on a little bit more, not as much as
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: they have in the past, but a little bit more.
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: I you know, there's there's some fantasy lingo there in
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: that question. I've been asked this before, like, all right,
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: Travon Henderson, where should he be going in fantasy? Where
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: said Stevens and going Josh McDaniels is back Patriots players
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: are now untouchable in fantasy football the way they were
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: for years and years and years, because every game is
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: gonna look a little different. There's not necessarily gonna be
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: unless you're in PPR with that slot receiver. And we
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: don't even know necessarily who that slot receiver is gonna be.
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: It's probably gonna be Pop Douglas, but it could be
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: Stefan Diggs. Like, It's just there's gonna be a lot
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: of variance there.
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't. I don't know if we have a
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: ton of calls or emails. I think Travon Henderson is
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: going to touch the ball three hundred times, Like I
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: don't think that's what the expectation is. I do like
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: the Achan cop I hadn't really thought of that one, because.
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: I think Travon quite that fast. No, And I think Travon.
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: Henderson has a little bit more to offer as a
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: true ballcarrier like h N's a true space player. He's
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: true a guy that's getting out out on the edges
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: or getting the ball in space. As a receiver, I
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: think Travon Henderson has a little bit more of a
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: chance to run the ball between the tackles.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: But it's not. It's not a bad comparison. I hadn't
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: really thought.
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: Of that one.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: Ryan is in Virginia. What's up, Brian?
- 1:07:17Speaker 9: Hey?
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: Can you guys hear me?
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: Yes? Go for it.
- 1:07:20Speaker 5: I had a fun off season topic for you guys.
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: One of my favorite aspects of sports is when coaches
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: think outside the box, and Belichick was really great at that.
- 1:07:35Speaker 5: For example, you know, having schooler having a running start
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: for blocked field goals, or doing the whole eligible and
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: eligible receivers against the Ravens. And so I've had an
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: idea for an outside the box method for field goal
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: blocking that it's going to sound like a joke, but
- 1:07:54Speaker 5: I would actually ask that you guys honestly take it
- 1:07:58Speaker 5: seriously and tell me why wouldn't work. So I got
- 1:08:03Speaker 5: this from an article a little while ago back when
- 1:08:07Speaker 5: Taco Fall was on the Celtics, but I know where
- 1:08:09Speaker 5: this is. The idea was, why not take someone of
- 1:08:13Speaker 5: Taco falls stature, So this huge, like seven foot tall dude,
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: put him, line him up over the center on field
- 1:08:23Speaker 5: goal blocking unit and just have him put his hands
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: up to block every field goal.
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: We've had somebody that's been listening to Alex and I
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: for years going back to sal Are you the same
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: person that has been listening to us for years that
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: have has come up with this concept.
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: Well, no, I actually know, to be fair, that person
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: that I know, that guy wanted to do it on defense.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: Ye like to pass the defensive Ryan. I'm sorry, I'm
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: not teasing that.
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: We're not the reason it wouldn't work. Maybe on like
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: really long kicks, if you want a roster guy just
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: to block fifty yard kicks, the trajectory on that ball,
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: it gets up really really quickly, and you might again
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: it might be a factor in the fifty plus range.
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: Most kicks inside of forty are still going to be,
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: you know, out of range of that guy. Usually when
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: field goals get blocked from that range, it's about a
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: protection breakdown and the guy who blocks it gets into
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: the backfield. You don't see many short kicks block at
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: the line of scrimmage like that. So even a guy
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: it's a foot taller or half a foot taller than
- 1:09:28Speaker 4: a lot of these guys that are blocking these kicks
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: isn't gonna make a difference. The other thing is Taco
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: falls tall, but he's very skinny. It still takes a
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: couple like the operation time, it's gonna be about two
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: seconds by the time the ball gets the line of scrimmage.
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: If that guy doesn't have a sturdy base, the long
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: snappers is gonna come up and push him over, like
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: just knock him on his ass.
- 1:09:50Speaker 11: Gotcha?
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: Okay, I still believe that it would work, but I'll
- 1:09:54Speaker 5: trust you guys on this.
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: It would. It would work the longer field goals, like
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: if you're if you're getting into that fifty plus range
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: where the trajectory has to be lower, and then you
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: also you are getting in the conversation, but are you
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: going to keep a guy? Are you going to dedicate
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: one or fifty three spot to be basically your designated
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: field goal blocker on kicks of fifty plus yards. College
- 1:10:14Speaker 4: football would absolutely do something like this, And maybe this
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: is more of a college thing where the rosters are
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: bigger and the kickers aren't as good. In the NFL,
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: it would work in certain scenarios. It's just you're talking
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: about maybe seven or eight plays a year, and are
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: you going to keep a guy on the roster for
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: seven or eight plays over the course of seventeen games?
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: Make an actium on game day?
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: Right all right before I go, and I'll take this
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: off air, but just curious if either of you have
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: your own outside the box ideas for how NFL teams
- 1:10:46Speaker 5: could change what they're doing.
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: But thanks guys, Thanks Ran, thanks for the colling. I
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: didn't mean to tease you.
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: But Alison, I know there was this guy.
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: He was insistent that he had solved football. He would
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: get mad and us dead set on it that we
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: weren't bringing it to Bill. But that wasn't about field goal.
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: It does make more sense on field goals.
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: His thing defensive remembers the defensive center seven footer to
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: stand at the line of scrimmage, and his idea was
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: like the range of motion would limit where the quarterback
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: could throw. But again it goes back to the point,
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: you got to get a guy that he can't just
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: be seven too. He has to be seven to at
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: least three bills, because if you put a guy like
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: Taco fall out, there is more frail. Again, the center's
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: just gonna come up and just flick him back and
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: knock them backwards.
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: So that guy was he he was and he would
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: be coming at us in the comments on the YouTube
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: chats and on Twitter too, and on Twitter and insisting
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: that and this is not even that it makes a difference,
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: but this is before I even work for the team,
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: and he wanted me us to take this to Bill
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: Belichick and like it's insane.
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: I'm not employed by an NFL team, blah blah. So
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: but that was the whole other thing. My so, my
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: idea has been done. I for years and years and
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: years and years wondered why teams didn't use a fakeney
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: and then the Patriots did it and Super Bowl fifty one.
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: It obviously didn't work well. I mean, they gained a
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: lot of guards, but fake knee so at the end
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: of half you're about to run it out, or maybe
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: the way the Patriots use is at the end of regulation,
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: but the game is going overtime, Like you see the
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: defense let up all the time. Either have the quarterbacks
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: start to go down and then bootleg or toss it
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: back to a running back or whatever. Usually when you
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: do the knee, who's the guy behind the quarterback? You
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: know how that role is picked?
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: Matthew Slater was it for years?
- 1:12:28Speaker 4: I don't know, So do you know how that's usually picked?
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: Maybe some teams do it a little differently, best tackler. No, No,
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: Traditionally it's your fastest player fastest because all those Slater
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: makes sense in this context because you go back to
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: the original miracle at the Metal Lands herm Edwards right
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: scooping the ball. You want somebody that if there's a
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: bad snap and the defense picks it up, who's going
- 1:12:50Speaker 4: to do the best job of chasing down the guy
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: who picks up the ball. So, yes, fastest player with
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: an ability to tackle it, I guess would be the
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: caveat on. That's Matthew Slater obviously makes all the sense
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: in the world for that role. But I have somebody
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: back there as fast right, start to go down to
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: that knee and then just flip the ball backwards and
- 1:13:06Speaker 4: you know, everybody's all packed in the middle. Let that
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: guy get around the edge. I always wanted to see
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: a fake knee, and I saw one, and I think
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: it's been done like two or three other times since.
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: End of the half, especially if it's like the other
- 1:13:18Speaker 4: team scores, you get the ball back off a kickoff,
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: everybody's just kind of mentally like, all right, there's one
- 1:13:23Speaker 4: second left, were going into the half. You can catch
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: them sleeping. The fake knee. That's what I want to see.
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: So this is starting to come on a little bit.
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: The teams are starting to do this a little bit more.
- 1:13:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: Basically, my guy Ben Johnson is at the forefront of
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: this in the Detroit Lions. The lateral as a design
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: within a play on offens not just like ye yes,
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: but like the hooking ladder you think of like the
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: Miami Miracle, and then you're doing it in a situation
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: where you I'm talking about this just in the run
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: of play being more of a thing.
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: The hook and ladder used to be like a normal play.
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: I really feel like there's tons of yards being left
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: on the field simply out of fear of catastrophic turnovers happening.
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: But if you're a team like the Lions, and I
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: would say the Chiefs have done it with Travis Kelce
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: quite a bit too, because he used to play quarterback
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: and he's got a decent arm. If you have the
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: khones to do it, and you have the cohesion to
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: do it, and you practice well enough and all that
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: kind of stuff, a team that really can do it
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: like they do it overseas in rugby and do it
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: at a high level could really change the game like
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: that could really make a huge impact on the game.
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: It would also being a nightmare for fantasy football, which
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: I would love yep.
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: But it's just a nightmare for defenses. Like you think
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: you got the guy, but now, like defenses, think about
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: the defense reaction to it. Now, the defense is gonna
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: have to like in rugby, you're gonna have to like
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: have discipline, yeah, to stay with your guy out wide
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: and be able to stay with some.
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: And then you can't gang tackle, and you can't.
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: Gang tackle as easily.
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: And it's essentially after the catch, after the ball is
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: down the field, whether it's a runner, it's a pass play,
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: I guess, but after the ball's passed the line of scrimmage, ye,
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: there just seems to be a lot of untapped potentials there.
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: You want to draw plays up after the catch, yes,
- 1:15:15Speaker 4: because right now it's okay, like you draw up the
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: routes the balls caught, and then it's just right you
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: want to drop Okay, the ball is gonna be caught,
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: and then you guys need to be here and go
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: here and things like that.
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: Yeah, and the Lions have done this, like the Lions
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: are already doing it or you know, more.
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: It's kind of similar when the Patriots would run that
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: double screen back in the day, like the double pass. No,
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: not the double pass.
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: But they would pass it out to some one.
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: Side and all the linemen would pull against the initial
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: screen and then you'd have James White all the way
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: on the other sideline catching the ball with all five
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: linemen in front of them, and you'd basically create what
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: was essentially a gap run play starting outside the numbers. Yes,
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: with the defense looking the other way like that. How
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: about and this this comes this is done in college.
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: I want to see it in the NFL.
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: Like I say, when we're thinking about the lateral thing first, Yeah.
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: I'm really interested to see if it translates in Chicago
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: because the always the conversation about this when it gets
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: brought up, are the two teams that do it with
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: any kind of frequency, or the Chiefs and the Lions,
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: who are two of the best teams in the league,
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: two are the best coach teams in the league.
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: Just really buttoned.
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: Up on the details with both those teams. So the
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: question is is can a bad team do it? Because
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: if it's only teams that can master it because they
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: have great practice habits, and they have great culture and
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: they're great teams like the Lions and the Chiefs are.
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: Then you can't have a team like the Jaguars or
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: the team like the Titans or the Patriots of the
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: last couple of years. I mean, granted, we literally saw
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: this and it wasn't supposed to happen, but in Vegas,
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: Jacobe Meyers was the bad, catastrophic version of what we're
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: going at here. Yeah, and so if if you can't
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: pull it off with lesser talent like Ben Johnson's gonna
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: have in Chicago, then it can't be something that takes
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: over the entire league. It's just not gonna be relevant.
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: But if he can take some of those hooking ladder
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: style plays and he can get the Bears roster to
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: execute those, yeah, now you can tell you can tell
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: you can't all thirty two teams can do it. If
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: that team can do it, and that's not I'm not
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: trying to take a shot at the Bears, but like,
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: that's a team has much less roster talent than the
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: Detroit Lions. So if they can still pull off some
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: of these trick plays that Ben Johnson has the Lions
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: running over the last couple of years. It's great, well,
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: it's great look for Ben Johnson, but it also just
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: means that there is untapped potentially, there's more meat on
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: the bone for all thirty two teams to be doing
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: stuff like this, whether it's throwing to eligible offensive linemen,
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: or it's hooking ladders, or it's reverses or whatever the
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: case may be. So I want to see that, and
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: this would be next level. But I love this idea
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: of it too. If this starts to catch on a
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: little bit, then a smart team or smart teams will
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: hire a coach and put a coach from Rugby on
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: their coaching staff. Sure, and then you can start teaching
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: how to later all the ball correctly and teach the
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: scheme and the x's and o's of it as well.
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: So if we want to take this to another level,
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: the other thing you can do that would adjust team building.
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: Go out and get some athletic offensive linemen, because if
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: you're doing this, you don't need to hit on as
- 1:18:25Speaker 4: many deep throws. You maybe don't need your pass protection
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: to be able to hold up as long. And now
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: you can work linemen into the mix with this, and
- 1:18:32Speaker 4: you can have all eleven players that threat to touch
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: the ball. So this was going to go to my
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: other thing. And this is coming from college, like this
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: is done in college and not in the NFL. More
- 1:18:40Speaker 4: plays where linemen are eligible to catch the football. You
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: had Tyler Warren this year line up at center, snap
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: the ball and catch the touchdown. Like offensive linemen right
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: now are more athletic than they've ever been. And this
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: goes back to Ben Johnson, right pinay Seul. They would
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: get him involved in the offense, touching the football and
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: carrying the football. Maybe it's through laterals, Maybe it's through
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: some of the old Bill Belichick, Josh McDaniel's unbalanced lines.
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: Things like that tackle. The thing that they did against
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: Baltimore was written out of the rule book, right.
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: I don't think so.
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: I thought it was no.
- 1:19:17Speaker 4: I think they just changed the way players declare eligibility.
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure the Ravens raised to stink about it, and.
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: They get Ray to stink about it. I think the
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: play itself is still legal. There's just more done to
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: let you know that the alignment is different from the refs.
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: If I might be wrong, but no, but things like
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: that were like get and if you're gonna do laterals
- 1:19:34Speaker 4: Like let's say you throw a quick slant right and
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: now you have your left tackle come off his block
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: and pull the outside, and maybe you have a really
- 1:19:43Speaker 4: athletic left tackle. So the wide receiver's coming on the slant,
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: the tackle comes back the other way, you flip it
- 1:19:49Speaker 4: back to him, and now maybe this big guy can rumble.
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: And if you have him coming to the outside, who's
- 1:19:53Speaker 4: gonna be out there waiting for him? Corners or nobody
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: or nobody. But let's say you get six six, three
- 1:19:59Speaker 4: ten pound Will Campbell, who ran a sub five forty,
- 1:20:02Speaker 4: matched up with the slot corner in the open field. Like,
- 1:20:05Speaker 4: you can't do this all the time, but you pull
- 1:20:07Speaker 4: that out two or three times a year.
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: I'm telling you, I don't think it's totally crazy to
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: think that this is the future of offensive fove It's
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: it's interesting.
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: It's interesting, all right. Give me a defensive and it's
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: harder to do with defense. Give me a defensive.
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: It's harder to do with defense. I don't know, So
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: I personally would hate this. Defense is harder, so offense.
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: There's so many creative things you can do. Defense is harder.
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: So I personally would hate this. But I wonder, like
- 1:20:30Speaker 4: I've had thoughts of maybe things going this way, and
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: you wouldn't play this way every play, it would be
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: a package or packages. I do feel like we're getting
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: towards a point where an option on defense is gonna
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: be We're gonna have a bunch of guys that are
- 1:20:45Speaker 4: from like five ten to six four, two hundred to
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: two hundred and forty pounds, and that's gonna be all
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: eleven players positionless, just positionless defense. And you know what
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: you're seeing the evolution of the box safety, overlapping with
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: the linebacker, overlapping with the slot corner, or you know,
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: third and lawn. Do you maybe you have a deep
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: safety and then you just have ten of those guys
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: and anybody can do anything, and anybody can come from anywhere.
- 1:21:10Speaker 4: You would need to really, I mean, the team, It
- 1:21:13Speaker 4: would start with the team building, because you're not you
- 1:21:15Speaker 4: can't just pull any random guy to do that. You're
- 1:21:18Speaker 4: gonna have to go out and find some really unique
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: individuals in terms of their physical skill set. But I
- 1:21:25Speaker 4: do wonder if that's on the timeline that we're gonna
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: get to a point where a team's gonna have a
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: defensive package where it's essentially eleven kind of hybrid box safety, linebacker,
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: slock corner, edge rusher type guys. You tell me the
- 1:21:39Speaker 4: player in the league that this is like eleven Fred Warners.
- 1:21:41Speaker 4: Obviously that sounds insane because Fred Warner is one of one, right,
- 1:21:44Speaker 4: but you get what I'm saying. Eleven guys that are
- 1:21:46Speaker 4: just sort of athletes that are just sort of freak
- 1:21:49Speaker 4: apex athletes, and everybody's doing a little bit of everything,
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: and you're trying to win as much on disguise as
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: you are actual a building.
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: That's a better session than I would have off the
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: top of my head.
- 1:22:00Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: And I like defensive much more about scheme innovation, I
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: would say, than it is about and I know that
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: that give.
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: Me, give me, give me scheme, and so this is
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: I don't.
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: Defense though, is like everything with defense is so reactive
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: to what the offense is doing, and it's so cyclical
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: based off of what the offense is doing.
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: The defense.
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: I would love for for defense to be able to
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: get on the front foot and like have something that
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: actually took offenses by surprise instead.
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: Of a reaction that what Brian Flores is doing.
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: Maybe I don't know, like Brian Flores is doing like
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: Amoba stuff and and like ghost pressures and thing.
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: It's like, this is where our guy that used to
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: comment at us and get mad at us, he had
- 1:22:37Speaker 4: a he had an idea for this too, not just
- 1:22:39Speaker 4: the defensive four was it was have three guys and
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: it didn't make sense and it wouldn't have worked. But
- 1:22:45Speaker 4: I remember this one too. He was like, the blitz
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: should be an offensive velossity, not Defensivelosphy have three players
- 1:22:53Speaker 4: blitz one lineman and then two guys are bound to
- 1:22:56Speaker 4: get through. Okay, so it wouldn't work.
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: Well, it does well, but they have that they have
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: They have trail blitzer or follow blitzer is the Patriots
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: actually run them a lot, or did with Belichick, where
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: you'd have one guy through and his job was basically
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: just to occupy the first guy, and then somebody would
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: follow right behind his butt and right off his hip
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: and go right in the into the same exact gap.
- 1:23:17Speaker 8: Uh.
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: They call them, you know, follow blitzer or or trail blitzes. Uh,
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: you know whatever.
- 1:23:22Speaker 3: And you know, defensively, right now, I feel like defensively,
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: we're in a really cool evolution state with Fangio and
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: and pattern matching really taking over, I.
- 1:23:34Speaker 4: Think or defense ahead of offenses right now, A little bittmatically.
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: Like so well, I would say they're ahead, but they
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: have essentially they have adapted so to Shanahan and to
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: the West Coast.
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: So this is what it's all cyclical, right The offense
- 1:23:49Speaker 4: has an innovation and it kind of dominates for year two,
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: and then the defense figures out how to crack it,
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: and then you know, remember last year at the beginning,
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: everybody's complaining that there wasn't enough scoring, and then there'll
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: be a new offensive innovation. I feel like we're on
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: the defensive side of the cycle right now.
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: So Fangio and look, pattern matching goes back to Bill
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: and Saban in the nineties. So I want to give
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: Belichick and Saban in their credit. They're the first ones
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: that truly invented pattern matching coverage.
- 1:24:14Speaker 4: You know, the greatest pro in college coach of all time,
- 1:24:16Speaker 4: no big deal.
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: Fangio has taken it to the next level though, with
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: like things like palms and stuff like that. But Belichick
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: and I actually got a really good answer from Belichick
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: one of my early good questions on the beat when
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: maybe there was hope for me as a question. Ask
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: her to Bill and he said, oh, you know, we
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: could write a book about this. But if I remember
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: it correctly, and I don't remember which one it was,
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: one of them was from a zone background and one
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: of them was from a man background.
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: And what they ended up doing.
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: They were facing the Pittsburgh Steelers a lot in Cleveland,
- 1:24:48Speaker 3: and they were a Cover three defense in Cleveland, a
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: Cover three spot drop zone, and Cleveland Pittsburgh was just
- 1:24:57Speaker 3: absolutely torching the Browns with four which is so silly.
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: It's like the basic play. It's the most basic play
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: in football. Four vertical routes right up the field. But
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: if you think about it, you have three deep coverage guys.
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: How are you covering four vertical routes with only three guys? Right,
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: Someone's gonna be open, so they're killing him with four verts.
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: So Bill and Saban got together and they really put
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: together the first iteration of pattern matching, and with their
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: simple at the simplest form of pattern matching, you are
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: carrying vertical routes like it's manson man coverage, and you're
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: passing off underneath routes, so you know there'll be a depth,
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: you know, six yards, eight yards. I believe Saban goes
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: at eight where you make that determination as a defender, Yeah,
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: at eight yards, is he declaring up the field or
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: is he breaking? If he's breaking, you're passing it like
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: a zone. If he's running up the field, you're carrying
- 1:25:52Speaker 3: it like it's Manton Man coverage. And that way there,
- 1:25:54Speaker 3: the slot corner, especially in Cleveland, became the fourth high guy.
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: Right now you had four guys high, so you could
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: cover over the top of four vertical routes. Then became
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: that started in Cleveland. Then rip Liz comes Rip Liz
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: is what is Saban's thing? That's he's really considered the
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: godfather of riple is coverage, which is again some pattern
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: matching man like like a man match pattern match coverage,
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: and it's just the riple is is about the safeties,
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: like which way are you rotating left or you rotating right?
- 1:26:28Speaker 3: That's how you get rip or right Liz left. That's
- 1:26:33Speaker 3: how that's broken down. It's all determined by the receivers,
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: like do they run under or do they run over?
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: You know, do they run up? I should say?
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: Then Fangio comes in and Fangio starts running what what
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: most people call palms, which is a quarters based coverage,
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: and it's it's pattern matching but from quarters based structure,
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: so four deep over the top, and essentially all it's
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: doing is allowing defenders to cancel out routes, like you.
- 1:27:04Speaker 4: Have number one.
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: If number one runs an out under, but if number
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: one runs vertical, then you move on to number two
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: and then you whoever is the first guy into your zone,
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: you're kind of taking right. So that in a lot
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: of ways has caught up to these McVeigh, shanahan, McDaniel,
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: Like that tree, uh, you know the floor in Green Bay.
- 1:27:27Speaker 3: That was the answer to all of those types of things.
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: So where do they go now is probably back to
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: an answer of how do they now adjust to Fangio's defense?
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: Like how do the offensive guys right adjust to Fangio's defense.
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: With Fangio's defense, you're really covering receivers at a zone
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: instead of windows. You know, when you spot drop, you're
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: covering windows of the field, whereas when you man to
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: man you're covering a specific body. So it'd be interesting
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: to see how they're able to do that. But that's
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: when I look at defensive football. I always think about
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: it in that respect, it's always reactionary. I don't know
- 1:28:06Speaker 3: if there is a something that is forward thinking that
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: a defense could possibly do to react to an offense.
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: It would be cool to think of.
- 1:28:15Speaker 3: Maybe some of the listeners have some ideas, but we
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: can get back to the phones. We have some emails
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: as well, and this is a good one from Dylan.
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: He has a little are you happy with this season?
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: If this is a stat line for this player? So
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: tell me if you're happy with this for Drake May
- 1:28:33Speaker 3: forty one hundred yards, thirty touchdowns, sixteen picks. Are you
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: happy with that season?
- 1:28:39Speaker 4: Again, I'm going to put the fumbles in there too.
- 1:28:41Speaker 4: If there's lost fumbles on top of sixteen picks, that's
- 1:28:45Speaker 4: the turnover number is still very high. I wouldn't be
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: unhappy with it, but I there'd still be a way
- 1:28:50Speaker 4: to go.
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: You know me, I'm happy with it. I'm happy with
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: it because when I see forty one hundred yards and
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: thirty touchdowns, the high ends are there. And I understand
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: you're thinking on that, but this is quarterbacking.
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: Call it sixteen turnovers and not sixteen interceptions, and I'd
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: be very happy with that. That's fair.
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: So this one, I'd be over the moon if Kyle
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: Williams puts up these numbers. Kyle Williams sixty catches, six
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: hundred and fifty yards, five touchdowns, great, I'd be over
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: the start if he puts up that kind.
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: Of I'd like him to be better down the road.
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: But that's a solid rookie season.
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: That's that's over the five to five to five club.
- 1:29:25Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:29:25Speaker 3: If you're over that, that means you're on your way
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: to being a really good receiver in the league. Keon
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: White seven sacks, thirty five tackles, ten tackles for loss.
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: Yeah, that'd be solid season.
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: I'm not so happy with that one.
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: I'd be fine.
- 1:29:37Speaker 3: Wasn't he right around seven sacks last year because he
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: had all those sacks at the beginning of the season.
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: Yeah, well are they How are they distributed? If he
- 1:29:43Speaker 4: has seven sacks in the five last year?
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: So not quite.
- 1:29:45Speaker 4: If he has seven sacks in the first like four
- 1:29:47Speaker 4: weeks and then does nothing after that, that would be
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: kind of disappointing, But that would be fine. I think
- 1:29:53Speaker 4: the ceilings should be higher for him in this defense.
- 1:29:55Speaker 4: I do, Yeah, I do. He's gonna be able to
- 1:29:58Speaker 4: play more aggressively the production. I think the production is
- 1:30:00Speaker 4: going to be higher for him.
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: On a full back question, yes, where do you rank
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: James Devil and the greatest fullbacks of all time? He
- 1:30:08Speaker 3: says this is from Jonathan He says, Mike all Stott's
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: number one?
- 1:30:12Speaker 4: But where well, I mean, how are we doing this?
- 1:30:15Speaker 4: Because Jim Brown was technically a fullback like true fullbacks,
- 1:30:20Speaker 4: like the Lee blocking full back you're talking about. So
- 1:30:22Speaker 4: we're not including like Larry Zonka here, No, okay, Mike
- 1:30:26Speaker 4: allsought his number one, Lorenzo O'Neil is number two.
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree with that.
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: Who else? Who else is in there? Oh? What was
- 1:30:37Speaker 4: it on the uh? Oh Larry Centers?
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: I was gonna say, what do you mean? Who else
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: is in there? Not even gonna name your boy Larry Centers.
- 1:30:43Speaker 4: Well, because I'm thinking of blockers since we're doing that
- 1:30:45Speaker 4: little those those are the top three to me. After that,
- 1:30:51Speaker 4: Vante Leeches up there, Tony Richardson's up there. He's definitely
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: in the top ten. I don't know that he's in
- 1:30:58Speaker 4: the top five.
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of these listen, I'm quickly pulling up
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: here have like you know, Larry Zanka, Jim Brown, Frank o'harris,
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: which were like they were they were like what was
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: that word? It was a different word back in the day.
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: They're fullbacks. But because of their alignments. I guess do
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: you think Darryl back? No, Daryl Johnson, I think is
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: the same kind of thing, right.
- 1:31:19Speaker 4: Oh, Sam Gas? I actually don't know. I don't remember
- 1:31:21Speaker 4: that much about Sam Gash.
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: John Couhon remember John john Yeah.
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: It was good patriot for a second, was he m?
- 1:31:29Speaker 4: I thinking that Danny vitally like Mike Tolbert to me,
- 1:31:32Speaker 4: was a running back. Mike Tolvert was a running back
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: like Lorenzo.
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: Neil was a true fullback with Danny and Thomasin's lead blocker,
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: like that was a true Who.
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: Is the John Kuhn was not a Patriot? Wasn't? Did
- 1:31:41Speaker 4: Sam get I don't know. I don't know.
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: I feel like the Cowboys had one.
- 1:31:44Speaker 4: But Sam Gash, from what I know, was a very
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: good player, and he blocked for some great running backs.
- 1:31:49Speaker 4: He blocked for Curtis Martin. Yep, he blocked for Jamal Lewis.
- 1:31:52Speaker 4: I think was he there when Lewis said no? That
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: would have been after him when Lewis set the single
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: game rushing record. Sam Gash is up there.
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: Who was someone was? Was it Lorenzo Neil? Did he
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: move on to Minnesota to block for Adrian Peterson for
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 1:32:07Speaker 4: I think that was Vonte Leach.
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: I remember the the Vikings having a good one for
- 1:32:12Speaker 3: Adrian Peterson there for a second.
- 1:32:15Speaker 4: I'll look it up. No, Lorenzo Neil was Saints, Jets, Box, Titans, Bengals, Chargers, Ravens.
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: Okay, I don't know who it was then, but I
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: don't know.
- 1:32:27Speaker 4: He might be in the top ten. They there's some
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: like all time great stuff.
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: So I believe the one I'm thinking of, and I
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: this is truly showing my age here because I can't
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: even I don't know Minnesota.
- 1:32:40Speaker 4: No, the one I was thinking of Richard Okay, who
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: you're thinking of?
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: The one in Dallas Darryl Johnson who blocked was the
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: Smith's leader.
- 1:32:47Speaker 4: Yeah, but I think he also, I think he was
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: more in that Larry Zonka, like I think he carried
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: the ball.
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: Could amount okay, but yeah, those were Those are some
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: other ones in the annals of NFL history.
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: James Devlin's better than some of those guys at Frankly,
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: I didn't watch a ton of those guys is before
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: my time, but I would say, you know, it was
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: Devon's in the I think conversation. I think he was
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: the best fallback of his era.
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: Now, there were only so many fallbacks during that time,
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: and that might be part of it. But I mean
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: the golden age for like the lead blocking fullback is
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: the late nineties, in early two thousands, All Stott is
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: the Apex. Lorenzo O'Neil is up there. Larry Centers was
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: not a traditional fallback, but he's up there. But Larry
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: Center should be a Pro Football Hall of Famer. I
- 1:33:35Speaker 4: mean what he did as a receiver. Nobody was catching
- 1:33:38Speaker 4: the ball out of the backfield like Larry Centers until
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: he did, and nobody did it for about ten years
- 1:33:42Speaker 4: after he got it. Literally, there were no thousand yard
- 1:33:46Speaker 4: receiving backs until Larry Centers, and then I think it
- 1:33:49Speaker 4: was another six or seven years before the Danny Tomlinson
- 1:33:52Speaker 4: did it. And I think the only guys that have
- 1:33:54Speaker 4: done it since are McCaffrey and Matt Forte. Sneaky underrated player.
- 1:33:59Speaker 4: Matt FORTEO is he sneaky?
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: I feel like.
- 1:34:03Speaker 4: I mean, I don't think he's gonna be a Hall
- 1:34:04Speaker 4: of Famer. No, but so have you've seen this guy.
- 1:34:07Speaker 4: It started as a baseball thing, and now there's a
- 1:34:08Speaker 4: basketball one. This is big on social media. The Hall
- 1:34:11Speaker 4: of Very Good.
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: To me, that's just a team Hall of Fame.
- 1:34:15Speaker 4: Well, no, this guy started this thing where he like
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: actually has people vote for the Hall of Very Good
- 1:34:19Speaker 4: and the players like acknowledge it. It's very fun. Matt
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: Forte is a first ballot Hall of Very Good player.
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: I don't think he's a Hall of Famer, but he
- 1:34:27Speaker 4: had won.
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: Se Forte is a Chicago Bears Hall of Famer.
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: He had five thousand yard season, should have had six.
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: He was three yards short one year. Oh, he never
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: had a thousand yard receiving season. Eight is one hundred
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: catch seasons. That's what did have one hundred catch season
- 1:34:44Speaker 4: as a back for Chicago in twenty fourteen. Like, I
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: don't know, I don't think it's not And there were
- 1:34:49Speaker 4: so many good running backs in that era. I don't
- 1:34:50Speaker 4: think he gets enough credit. I don't know that he's
- 1:34:52Speaker 4: Hall of Famer, but I don't think he gets enough credit.
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: To me, Hall of Very Good is just what the
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: team Hall of Fame is for. That's how you honor
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: those types of well Matt Forte is because that's like a.
- 1:35:04Speaker 4: Patriots fans. How do we as Patriots fans recognize Matt Forte? Then?
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: Family, you really you need to recognize Matt fourt.
- 1:35:12Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. It should he should be more recognized.
- 1:35:15Speaker 4: Is a good player. Yes, that's my whole point.
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: You're gonna die, You're You're really it's killing you that
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: you can't recognize Matt Fote's greatness.
- 1:35:22Speaker 4: That the generic football fan who's not a Bears fan can't. Yes,
- 1:35:26Speaker 4: I think he'll be all right, that's the whole point.
- 1:35:27Speaker 4: I think he'll Paul very good.
- 1:35:29Speaker 3: Here's a question from Stevie Steve Steve to be exact. Yeah,
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: he asks, Uh, what will you need to see from
- 1:35:36Speaker 3: the offensive line in training camp to feel confident going
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: into the season.
- 1:35:40Speaker 4: I don't. I don't think there's an answer to that.
- 1:35:41Speaker 4: I gotta see it in the preseason. I don't even
- 1:35:44Speaker 4: if they're good in the preseason. I'm just so at
- 1:35:46Speaker 4: this point I need to see real results. I don't
- 1:35:48Speaker 4: know if that's a cop out answer, Evan, you tell
- 1:35:50Speaker 4: me but like, I.
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: Don't know, because like it's so vanilla in the preseason
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: in terms of what they're throwing at you schematically, and
- 1:35:58Speaker 3: so you're not really getting into all the different pressures
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: that you're gonna see in a regular season game, especially
- 1:36:05Speaker 3: on third down. In the preseason, some coaches will turn
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: it up, you know, Wake Martindale used to get on
- 1:36:09Speaker 3: Bill's nerves for turning it up.
- 1:36:10Speaker 4: I remember that.
- 1:36:11Speaker 3: But some coaches would turn it up in preseason. But
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: for the most part, you're looking at some pretty vanilla stuff.
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: And I would say, though in general, even though it's
- 1:36:21Speaker 3: not quite I'm not gonna anoint him off of it,
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: but I am really looking forward to seeing Will Campbell
- 1:36:28Speaker 3: on film because it's hard in these practices to of course,
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: the spring is thrown out.
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: I mean, you're not in pads.
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: But even when they get into pads and you're watching practice,
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: it's hard to break down the offensive line in practice.
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: It's a lot of moving parts. Things are flying all
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: over the place, like you just can't really see it
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: as well. So if you watch the film in the
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: three preseason games, let's say he plays two or three
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: of two and a half three or whatever, for Will Campbell.
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: If you watch that in Will Campbell's it looks the part,
- 1:36:57Speaker 3: it passes the eye test, moves well, all those types
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: of things. If he's at least blocking one on one
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: at a really good level, I'm gonna feel a little
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: bit better. But I don't think that you can really,
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: especially on the interior, when you're gonna see so many
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: different pressures and so many different looks on the interior.
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: The outside is you're getting an edgeresher out there one
- 1:37:18Speaker 3: way or another, Like, it's not really, that's not really
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: where the spicy stuff happens. The spicy stuff happens inside
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: with the stunts and the gaming and the sim pressures
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: and all that kind of that. That stuff typically comes
- 1:37:29Speaker 3: from the inside. So that's gonna be hard to see
- 1:37:32Speaker 3: its center at guard, left guard, like how are they
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: handling that tackle? You can see if Will Campbell can
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: survive on an island in the preseason. I don't know
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: about the interior spots. This is a good question here
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: that keeps getting asked, but I might as well keep
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: answering it. Michael, in Tucson, we have a lot of
- 1:37:49Speaker 3: Patriots fans in Arizona. I've noticed that in Tucson, have
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: you discussed traveon Henderson's contract status. So Trayvon Henderson along
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: with thirty other second round picks, thirty of the thirty
- 1:38:03Speaker 3: two and.
- 1:38:03Speaker 4: The second exceptions of the top two picks, yeah, are
- 1:38:06Speaker 4: unsigned currently on thirty six to whatever, sixty four.
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: Do not have contracts. So is the guaranteed money versus
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: eighty percent or another percent something that we can see.
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: So basically he's asking like how much guaranteed money? So
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: typically for second round picks who typically see three out
- 1:38:23Speaker 3: of the four years guaranteed on their rookie contract, towards
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: the end of the second round, maybe team start to
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: get a little bit looser with it and it's more
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: like two and a half, but it's typically three out
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: of four years. The problem is, thank you Nick Assario
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: and the Houston Texans, they gave Jenden Higgins a fully
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: guaranteed contract all four years, fully guaranteed like a first
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: round pick.
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: So now the rest of the second.
- 1:38:43Speaker 4: Round in the Browns did that with Carson Swag and Show.
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: So everybody's holding out now for fully guaranteed contracts in
- 1:38:48Speaker 3: the second round. My guess is that this gets settled
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: with top fifty picks getting the fully guaranteed deals. If
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: you're if you're the sixtieth pick in the draft, I
- 1:38:58Speaker 3: don't think you're going to get it. I don't think
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: you're gonna be able to win that negotiation. Travon Henderson
- 1:39:04Speaker 3: might have a case. He might have a case.
- 1:39:06Speaker 4: Here's the other interesting variable when it comes to Henderson. Well,
- 1:39:10Speaker 4: there's that side of it. Although he is a running
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: back to ahead of him in Quinn Shawn Judkins, who
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: plays for the Browns, who already gave Carson Sweginger a
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: fully guaranteed contract, who's a linebacker, which is another devalued position.
- 1:39:22Speaker 4: So that's gonna Helph because he's gonna be able to
- 1:39:23Speaker 4: say quin John Judkins got a fully guaranteed contract two
- 1:39:26Speaker 4: picks after Travion Henderson. You mentioned the cutoff being a
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: top fifty. Two picks after Travon Henderson, the New Orleans
- 1:39:33Speaker 4: Saints took Tyler Shuck, who's probably gonna be their starting quarterback.
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: Yeah, so funny.
- 1:39:40Speaker 4: He has all the leverage in the world to get
- 1:39:42Speaker 4: the fully guaranteed contract.
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: Tyler Shuck got drafted in the second round because he
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: made that one like under like underhand throw in the
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: in the red zone touchdown that made the rounds all
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: throughout draft season, and he got drafted on that one throw.
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: And because he's already an adult, so there's less development time,
- 1:40:00Speaker 4: even though he's not developing in a.
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: Much I have I have a question about that. Finish
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: your point.
- 1:40:06Speaker 4: So, Trey Van Henderson, I think anybody who's ahead of
- 1:40:09Speaker 4: Tyler Shuck is going to be waiting for Tyler Schuck
- 1:40:11Speaker 4: to sign. Tyler Shuck to me's the domino. He's got
- 1:40:14Speaker 4: to sign first. And then once he signs, because then
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: all the guys that are picked ahead of him, and
- 1:40:18Speaker 4: I don't care these quarterback he's picked after me, I
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: should get a full guaranteed contract and then we'll see
- 1:40:23Speaker 4: what happens after him. I think that's more where the
- 1:40:25Speaker 4: cutoff is, you know, top fifty. Certainly there's just that
- 1:40:29Speaker 4: sort of objective top fifty pick, but Tyler Shuck's the
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: variable here. We got to see what happens with Tyler Shock.
- 1:40:34Speaker 3: So he brought up an interesting point about Tyler Shuck
- 1:40:38Speaker 3: and how old he is.
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: He's like thirty, right or whatever.
- 1:40:41Speaker 4: Comic Tyler Shuck's first year in college with Joe Burrow's
- 1:40:44Speaker 4: first year.
- 1:40:45Speaker 2: I'm like, only kind of half joking, he's like twenty
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: seven or twenty six.
- 1:40:49Speaker 4: I think he's going to be a twenty six year
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: old rookie turns so in September.
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: Tyler Schuck's the extreme.
- 1:40:55Speaker 4: But you also have back when Tyler Shuck began his
- 1:40:57Speaker 4: college career, Tom Brady was a five time Super Bowl champion.
- 1:41:00Speaker 3: You also have Jaden Daniels, who was a six year
- 1:41:02Speaker 3: player in college. Younger younger player than Shuck, but a
- 1:41:05Speaker 3: six year player in college. Now, some of this was
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: forced on the NFL.
- 1:41:09Speaker 4: Jade Daniels for two years behind Tyler Shuck.
- 1:41:12Speaker 3: Some of this is forced on the NFL by COVID
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: mainly pushing everybody back, but also now with NIL there's
- 1:41:19Speaker 3: not as much incentive for these guys to rush to
- 1:41:22Speaker 3: the league. I just wonder, is the NFL, not necessarily
- 1:41:27Speaker 3: with Tyler Shuck's of the world, but with Jayden Daniels specifically,
- 1:41:31Speaker 3: is the NFL now going to pivot with quarterback and
- 1:41:33Speaker 3: say we need to go back to evaluating quarterbacks that
- 1:41:37Speaker 3: are coming into the league with legitimate starter experience, like
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: fifty college starts like Jaden Daniels level of experience.
- 1:41:45Speaker 4: Cut off usually like twenty five.
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: Yeah, Parcels had that thing right where we had like
- 1:41:49Speaker 3: these thresholds for this The reason why I asked this,
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: and I hope that your two for Drake Ma Goo's
- 1:41:57Speaker 3: incredibly well. But there's no doubt that it ended up
- 1:42:02Speaker 3: panning out the way that we thought with Jaden Daniels
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: being the most pro ready quarterback and Kalb and Drake
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: May looking toolsy, looking flashy, and with a ton of potential.
- 1:42:12Speaker 3: But if Caleb Williams just kind of flames out let's
- 1:42:16Speaker 3: call it in Chicago after a rough rookie year, and
- 1:42:19Speaker 3: Drake May doesn't necessarily rise, would we look at evaluating
- 1:42:24Speaker 3: quarterbacks and go and say the guys that have been
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: in college for a long time might actually have more
- 1:42:31Speaker 3: value because they're ready to step in and hit the
- 1:42:32Speaker 3: ground running right away. Because I think in the past,
- 1:42:35Speaker 3: and this I remember talking about this with the mac
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: Jones draft, Mack was the more pro ready quarterback, but
- 1:42:43Speaker 3: everybody knew that his ceiling wasn't as high as some
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: of the other guys, but thought that he had a
- 1:42:47Speaker 3: higher floor. So usually when you have like the true
- 1:42:50Speaker 3: junior declare like a Kleb Williams or Drake. May you
- 1:42:53Speaker 3: think that they have this higher ceiling because they're younger
- 1:42:56Speaker 3: and they've already reached a certain level and they have
- 1:42:58Speaker 3: more runway to get better better, But could we really
- 1:43:01Speaker 3: see it go the other way with Jayden Daniels being
- 1:43:04Speaker 3: really the poster child for it, where now all of
- 1:43:07Speaker 3: a sudden the experience comes back into play because it
- 1:43:09Speaker 3: used to be that way.
- 1:43:09Speaker 4: I think so, especially since the college game and pro
- 1:43:12Speaker 4: game are so similar for quarterbacks now offensively and you're
- 1:43:16Speaker 4: seeing more of the spread stuff come to the NFL
- 1:43:18Speaker 4: that there's less of that translation that you're just gonna
- 1:43:21Speaker 4: teams want to feel more comfortable to know what they're getting,
- 1:43:23Speaker 4: and you're gonna know what you're getting with the guy
- 1:43:25Speaker 4: that has more starts.
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: It used to be that way.
- 1:43:28Speaker 3: That that was, you know, the real the senior, you know,
- 1:43:32Speaker 3: the guy that's a three four year starters of parcels
- 1:43:36Speaker 3: his thresholds and his you know rule of thumbs for
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: quarterbacks or rules to draft quarterbacks. Three year starter, yeah,
- 1:43:45Speaker 3: twenty three wins, and then he had some like statistical
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: yeah thresholds, right, I think it was like two to
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: one or three to one. Interception touchdown interception and like
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: things like that.
- 1:43:57Speaker 4: Well, you look at the guys so for instance.
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: And it must be senior. It was another one, so
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: mus be a senior.
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: You look at a guy like this year in Fernando Mendoza,
- 1:44:07Speaker 4: who was the quarterback of Cal. He just transferred. He'll
- 1:44:09Speaker 4: he'll be at Indiana this year's at Cal the last
- 1:44:11Speaker 4: two years. Fernando Mendoza is not the most eye popping
- 1:44:16Speaker 4: quarterback prospect. He's a big guy, six five two twenty five.
- 1:44:19Speaker 4: He's got the size, but like, he's not the most mobile.
- 1:44:23Speaker 4: He doesn't have the biggest arm. Like they're good, they're
- 1:44:26Speaker 4: NFL caliber, but I don't know that he is. He
- 1:44:27Speaker 4: doesn't have that one wow trait. Right, He's just solid.
- 1:44:31Speaker 4: He's a solid college quarterback. Guys like that are usually second, third,
- 1:44:36Speaker 4: fourth round picks. I mean he's by the way, he's uh,
- 1:44:38Speaker 4: he's gonna turn twenty two years old this season, so
- 1:44:40Speaker 4: he'll be a twenty three year old rookie like guys
- 1:44:42Speaker 4: like that. He's his second third round picks. Has pulled
- 1:44:45Speaker 4: up our little consensus board number seven. You know why,
- 1:44:51Speaker 4: he's polished, he's proven. This is gonna be his third
- 1:44:53Speaker 4: essentially full year as a starter. He started nine games
- 1:44:56Speaker 4: of twenty twenty three, got hurt late in the year,
- 1:44:58Speaker 4: but like started nine games of twenty three, eleven games
- 1:45:01Speaker 4: last year led caldo winning record. If you can do
- 1:45:03Speaker 4: the same thing in Indiana this year in the Big Ten, Like,
- 1:45:07Speaker 4: that's not a guy that was gonna get a ton
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: of attention a couple of years ago. And look, maybe
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: he'll bought him out and suck, but like, if he
- 1:45:13Speaker 4: is a decent season, he's gonna get looks because he's
- 1:45:17Speaker 4: just a known commodity.
- 1:45:18Speaker 2: I just wonder if value. You know, like a guy
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: like Drake May.
- 1:45:21Speaker 3: Caleb was a three year starter because he started a
- 1:45:23Speaker 3: lot at Oklahoma, Yeah, and then he started two years
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: at USC. Drake May was a two year starter at
- 1:45:27Speaker 3: North Carolina. You know, Sam Howell was the starter and
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: then he was the starter for two years. The guys
- 1:45:32Speaker 3: like Garrett ness Meyer is going to be a two
- 1:45:34Speaker 3: year starter, right because Jayden Daniels was the starter and
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: then ness Meyers started last year and then he'll start
- 1:45:39Speaker 3: this year.
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: What's the kid from Clemson Kate Club?
- 1:45:43Speaker 8: Nick?
- 1:45:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I have my own reservations about Kate Club, but
- 1:45:45Speaker 4: they're separate from this.
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: He but is he a multi year starter?
- 1:45:48Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:45:49Speaker 3: So that mel Kiper has him high in his like
- 1:45:52Speaker 3: way too early mock drafts, And I wonder if that's.
- 1:45:54Speaker 4: Why, Well, how exactly these dabbo quarterbacks panned out is
- 1:45:57Speaker 4: a bigger.
- 1:45:57Speaker 2: Vesial Well, de Shaun Watson was pretty good before he.
- 1:46:00Speaker 4: Since then, Yeah, Kate club Nick has started twenty seven
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: games over the last two year.
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: So he'd fit this mold. What was the sec kid?
- 1:46:08Speaker 4: Was he not Smyer? No, there's another guy, Lenora Sellers. Yes,
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: Leonora's Sellers is gonna be interesting. Yeah, because he is.
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: Then obviously there's Arch who we'll see if he declares.
- 1:46:21Speaker 4: Did you see Paul fine Bob said? Arch Manning is
- 1:46:25Speaker 4: gonna be the best college quarterback since Tim Tebow.
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: I mean it's Paul fine bamb.
- 1:46:29Speaker 4: It's a ridiculous take he has that includes Cam Newton.
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: He has ridiculous takes.
- 1:46:33Speaker 4: And that that's an all timer. I do like I'm
- 1:46:36Speaker 4: interested in Lenora's Sellers. I'm interested. I'm not saying he's good.
- 1:46:39Speaker 4: I'm just saying I'm interested. Toolsy, I assume very toolsy. Yeah,
- 1:46:44Speaker 4: incredibly like the guy's fearless he's so fun to watch
- 1:46:49Speaker 4: play quarterback, and it works for him. Now is it
- 1:46:51Speaker 4: going to continue to work for him now there's more
- 1:46:53Speaker 4: tape on him, that's kind of the question. But he's six'
- 1:46:56Speaker 4: three two, forty he's got a big, arm he's a smart.
- 1:47:00Speaker 4: Kid he takes risks like he. Cares he's got a
- 1:47:04Speaker 4: lot of the. Tools it's just he's only started one.
- 1:47:07Speaker 4: Year he's. Young he he just turned. Twenty he's gonna be,
- 1:47:12Speaker 4: like he's gonna play this season a twenty years. Old
- 1:47:14Speaker 4: so we'll see if he comes. Out he might stay another,
- 1:47:16Speaker 4: year but there's there's a lot there to, like we'll
- 1:47:18Speaker 4: see if it all comes. Together kind of LIKE Dj.
- 1:47:20Speaker 4: Lagway lagway's a little more physically impressive real. Quick you
- 1:47:24Speaker 4: want the quarterbacks that were In Tyler shuck's recruiting, class
- 1:47:27Speaker 4: this is the twenty eighteen class. Ranking Trevor, LAWRENCE i
- 1:47:30Speaker 4: think is on his THIRD nfl, contract, Right Justin field's
- 1:47:34Speaker 4: THIRD nfl, TEAM Jt, Daniels Bus tanner, McKey, BUSS i
- 1:47:38Speaker 4: don't even know Who Justin rodgers, IS Dtr Jaron, Williams Matt,
- 1:47:44Speaker 4: Corral Tyler. Shuck that was the top of that. Class Corral.
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: IS i don't even know if he's.
- 1:47:49Speaker 4: On he is tearing up THE. Uflu phil Dr kovic
- 1:47:54Speaker 4: is in. Here Em Marie, jones if you remember Every
- 1:47:56Speaker 4: jones might still be in.
- 1:47:58Speaker 3: College i'm very. Interested tan AND i went touchdowns in a.
- 1:48:01Speaker 3: Game i'm very interested to see where this heads. With you,
- 1:48:05Speaker 3: know all this stuff you were talking To scheme. Earlier
- 1:48:08Speaker 3: all this stuff is so cyclical in terms of scouting as.
- 1:48:11Speaker 3: Well Jaden daniel's success in the league and immediate success
- 1:48:15Speaker 3: in the league as an, adult as a twenty four
- 1:48:17Speaker 3: year old that started for five years in, college six
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: years in. COLLEGE i just wonder if evaluating quarterbacks starts
- 1:48:24Speaker 3: to head back into that direction with the Parcels way
- 1:48:27Speaker 3: three year, starters true senior. Above you, know tons of
- 1:48:32Speaker 3: experience in, college polished, kids you, know things like. THAT
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: a couple of the guys THAT i saw on the
- 1:48:38Speaker 3: list that they they brought up that fit that were
- 1:48:40Speaker 3: like The, Mannings, Breeze roethlisberger like all throughout that. Era Even,
- 1:48:46Speaker 3: brady you, know didn't have necessarily all the starting EXPERIENCE
- 1:48:48Speaker 3: i don't, think because he was splitting, time but he
- 1:48:51Speaker 3: went To michigan for the entire time. Right he was
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: a four year player At. Michigan so there's a lot
- 1:48:56Speaker 3: of that type of stuff THAT i was interested.
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: IN qb thirty four in that, Class Joe.
- 1:49:00Speaker 3: Milton here's an email From anthony, says first, off what
- 1:49:05Speaker 3: an incredible. Analogy season Two Family guy was truly. AMAZING
- 1:49:09Speaker 3: i can still Hear lois Mocking, peter we'll take the.
- 1:49:13Speaker 4: Box we'll take the, box sell the boat for a
- 1:49:16Speaker 4: pair of concert. Tickets so just some people are aware
- 1:49:20Speaker 4: that scene is a Family guy.
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: Bit it's a Family guy. Bit you probably explained.
- 1:49:24Speaker 4: This so basically they it's the setup to the. Episode
- 1:49:30Speaker 4: they get like a thing in the mail that, says
- 1:49:33Speaker 4: if you go sit through this timeshare, presentation you'll get
- 1:49:36Speaker 4: a free. Boat and everybody on the street gets, it
- 1:49:38Speaker 4: and they're, like all, right we'll get a free. Boat
- 1:49:40Speaker 4: so they. Go they sit through the presentation and it's you,
- 1:49:43Speaker 4: know you think dumb Cartoon dad is going to buy
- 1:49:45Speaker 4: the time. Share no gets through. It they're sitting in
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: the office with the salesman and he, goes so can
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: we get you to sign? Up and he, goes save
- 1:49:50Speaker 4: me your, trick, salesman where's my? Boat salesman goes, wait
- 1:49:53Speaker 4: you haven't. Heard you can get the boat or you
- 1:49:56Speaker 4: can get the mystery. Box it kind of shakes it
- 1:49:58Speaker 4: in front of him like wo And lois, goes what
- 1:50:01Speaker 4: are you, Crazy we'll take the, boat And peter, goes,
- 1:50:03Speaker 4: oh hang, on hang, on hang. On the boat's a,
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: boat but the mystery box could be. Anything it could
- 1:50:08Speaker 4: even be a. Boat you know how much we've wanted
- 1:50:10Speaker 4: one of. Those And lois starts saying he cuts her.
- 1:50:12Speaker 4: Off he, goes we'll take the. Box and then they're
- 1:50:14Speaker 4: driving home and all their neighbors have their boats and
- 1:50:16Speaker 4: they're looking at their, boats And lois, goes we'll take the.
- 1:50:19Speaker 4: Box you trade in a boat for, it and they
- 1:50:21Speaker 4: end up being tickets to a comedy. Club it's.
- 1:50:23Speaker 3: Amazing, Yeah and so we use that a lot with,
- 1:50:27Speaker 3: Players LIKE i think we first placed. It the potential
- 1:50:30Speaker 3: of this player could be it could be. Anything it
- 1:50:32Speaker 3: could be a, boat you, know but it's specifically when
- 1:50:35Speaker 3: you're talking about two.
- 1:50:35Speaker 4: Players so the first TIME i saw it used like
- 1:50:37Speaker 4: that was when The titans traded AWAY Aj brown instead
- 1:50:41Speaker 4: of paying him to Draft Traylon. Burks, yeah that Was
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: Treylon burks could be. Anything, yeah he could even Be Aj.
- 1:50:47Speaker 4: Brown you know how much we've wanted a guy LIKE Aj.
- 1:50:50Speaker 3: Brown so in this, Email anthony, said with that being,
- 1:50:54Speaker 3: said you cannot Trade keon for, what As evan pointed,
- 1:50:57Speaker 3: out we. Aren't when now Like keon flourish with good,
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: COACHING i believe he will still be a top rusher
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: in this. League it's a fair. Point they definitely have
- 1:51:05Speaker 3: a more runway with Ke On.
- 1:51:06Speaker 4: White SO i will say this, though when it comes.
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: To that positions could even be a.
- 1:51:09Speaker 4: Boat and when it comes to that position, specifically the
- 1:51:12Speaker 4: pushback ANYTIME i use mystery box of the boat is
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: the other players, younger he's, cheaper, YadA, YadA. YadA. Whatever this,
- 1:51:20Speaker 4: Staff Mike, Rabel, Terrell William zach kerr. RIGHT i trust
- 1:51:23Speaker 4: them to develop pass. Rushers, yeah so you Get Trey,
- 1:51:27Speaker 4: hendrickson who in twenty twenty five is going to be
- 1:51:30Speaker 4: better Than Keon. White and THEN i trust them to
- 1:51:32Speaker 4: go into the draft next year and find a long term.
- 1:51:34Speaker 4: OPTION i trust them to find another Key On white
- 1:51:36Speaker 4: in the. Draft at another, POSITION i might feel differently
- 1:51:39Speaker 4: and be, like all, right you, know, no you're a young.
- 1:51:41Speaker 4: Team you want to stick with the youth here, blah blah,
- 1:51:43Speaker 4: blah WHATEVER i. TRY i trust this staff to go
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: find a pass. RUSHER i. Do, yeah it's a good.
- 1:51:49Speaker 3: Point all, right let's get back to these calls and
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: wrap up the show. Here but, MAN i literally always
- 1:51:54Speaker 3: laugh at the family guy. THING i can't help But
- 1:51:56Speaker 3: i've seen it in a thousand.
- 1:51:58Speaker 4: Episode was on the other day AND i was, like, oh, oh,
- 1:52:00Speaker 4: yeah there it.
- 1:52:01Speaker 2: Is it's just so. Perfect all, Right craig is In South.
- 1:52:06Speaker 2: Carolina what's? Up, Craig, hey what's?
- 1:52:10Speaker 11: Up can you hear?
- 1:52:12Speaker 8: Me?
- 1:52:12Speaker 4: Yeah go for?
- 1:52:13Speaker 11: It how you guys doing? Good for some, reason some,
- 1:52:17Speaker 11: reason the volume went. Down but, anyways to guts on the.
- 1:52:20Speaker 2: Mimage thank.
- 1:52:22Speaker 11: You i've been married thirty three years this, time And
- 1:52:28Speaker 11: i'm actually involved in some marriage, counseling SO i just
- 1:52:31Speaker 11: wanted to, say Put god first in, marriage the, weather
- 1:52:35Speaker 11: the storms for, you and also a good marriage is
- 1:52:40Speaker 11: too great forgivers to always forgive before.
- 1:52:43Speaker 4: You go to.
- 1:52:43Speaker 11: Sleep, anyways So i'm gonna take that. Off But i've
- 1:52:49Speaker 11: got a question about in the off, season all all the,
- 1:52:53Speaker 11: quarterbacks Like, brady he used to work out With. Edelman,
- 1:53:00Speaker 11: man let's see there's another one that would work out
- 1:53:04Speaker 11: With but, anyway many many used to work out With Marvin.
- 1:53:09Speaker 11: Harrison So i'm, wondering what what is Uh drake me
- 1:53:14Speaker 11: doing or is he allowed to work out with some
- 1:53:17Speaker 11: of his. Receivers that's my.
- 1:53:19Speaker 3: Question, yeah, great thanks for the, call and thanks for
- 1:53:21Speaker 3: the marriage. Advice that the don't go to bed mad
- 1:53:23Speaker 3: at each other One I've i've heard a, lot and
- 1:53:26Speaker 3: that's good. ADVICE i would say that in my very,
- 1:53:29Speaker 3: young very experienced relationship self can tell you, that, uh the,
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: yeah he, could he could do. That you know they
- 1:53:36Speaker 3: have they could have summits or something like. That brady
- 1:53:39Speaker 3: would take his guys To montana right and at his
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: house In montana and.
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: They could do that sort of.
- 1:53:44Speaker 4: THING i went through last.
- 1:53:45Speaker 3: Year, yeah they. Went i'm sure that they have, something you, Know.
- 1:53:49Speaker 3: Drake congratulations to him as. Well he just got, married
- 1:53:52Speaker 3: so he's a little.
- 1:53:53Speaker 4: Busy you just can bond over.
- 1:53:54Speaker 3: There, Maybe, uh he's a little busy at the. Moment
- 1:53:57Speaker 3: SO i understand. That trust, ME i definitely understand. That
- 1:54:01Speaker 3: SO i don't know if he's necessarily doing that right this,
- 1:54:04Speaker 3: second but that that's that's totally, Cool like there's no
- 1:54:08Speaker 3: rules against it at.
- 1:54:09Speaker 2: All in THE.
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: Nfl as long as there's no coaches, present there's no
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: team personnel present for that, workout the players can do
- 1:54:17Speaker 3: whatever they. Want they can get together and have a passing.
- 1:54:19Speaker 3: Summit usually it's a it's the, quarterback or sometimes it's
- 1:54:22Speaker 3: even a veteran receiver if the quarterback's. YOUNGER i would,
- 1:54:26Speaker 3: say like a guy Like Kendrick bourne feels like a
- 1:54:28Speaker 3: type of guy that might do something like that and
- 1:54:29Speaker 3: put something like that. Together so definitely. POSSIBLE i haven't
- 1:54:33Speaker 3: heard of that happening. Yet LIKE i, Said drake's getting
- 1:54:36Speaker 3: married or got, married and then you, Know july fourth
- 1:54:39Speaker 3: is in a couple of, days but maybe afterwards we
- 1:54:41Speaker 3: might hear about something like.
- 1:54:42Speaker 2: That patty is An. Agua what's?
- 1:54:44Speaker 6: Up?
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: Patty, hey, guys what's going?
- 1:54:47Speaker 4: On can you hear?
- 1:54:48Speaker 2: Me, okay, yeah we got you all?
- 1:54:50Speaker 7: Right, sorry hold, on, SORRY i was just climbing off
- 1:54:54Speaker 7: of a, roof so, okay be. Careful, yeah first, OFF
- 1:54:57Speaker 7: i wanted to say congrat, seven thank, you and, yeah
- 1:55:03Speaker 7: the piece of advice of never going.
- 1:55:05Speaker 5: To that mad as.
- 1:55:06Speaker 7: Good the other thing is the other big thing that
- 1:55:09Speaker 7: my wife AND i never. Do we've been married for
- 1:55:11Speaker 7: over ten. Years we don't fight about. Money we always
- 1:55:15Speaker 7: seem to come to a.
- 1:55:15Speaker 11: Compromise you.
- 1:55:17Speaker 7: KNOW i always try to apply, Logic she always tries
- 1:55:20Speaker 7: to apply an. Emotion but we meet somewhere in the,
- 1:55:22Speaker 7: middle which is a good. Thing i'm sorry IF i
- 1:55:25Speaker 7: if you guys already covered. THIS i wasn't able to
- 1:55:28Speaker 7: listen to most of the. Show but do you think
- 1:55:31Speaker 7: with the trade that we saw a couple of days,
- 1:55:33Speaker 7: ago now we're gonna get you, know how everything happens
- 1:55:36Speaker 7: in bunches in THE nfl like prid to the twenty
- 1:55:38Speaker 7: twenty two, draft we saw those wide receivers. Traded do
- 1:55:41Speaker 7: you think we're gonna see a little bit more player
- 1:55:43Speaker 7: for player, trades you, know within the next couple of,
- 1:55:45Speaker 7: weeks for like once training camp. Hits nothing, crazy but
- 1:55:49Speaker 7: just more of what we, saw maybe not as big
- 1:55:52Speaker 7: of a name As ramsey And john News smith And Minka.
- 1:55:55Speaker 7: Fitzpatrick And i'll take that out. There and the last
- 1:55:59Speaker 7: thing for, You ali like the when he coming over
- 1:56:02Speaker 7: to dot com full. Time that's ALL i. Got i'll
- 1:56:04Speaker 7: talk take it out, there.
- 1:56:04Speaker 3: Guys, Thanks patty. Appreciated uh you like talking about other
- 1:56:08Speaker 3: sports too?
- 1:56:09Speaker 2: Much, yeah that's WHAT i can't give. Up you can't
- 1:56:12Speaker 2: give up YOUR.
- 1:56:13Speaker 4: I was the. BEST i can't give up talking about
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: The Red. Sox you're, there they're testing, that they're.
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: Testing SO i don't know if we'll see a flurry
- 1:56:22Speaker 2: of trades for a player for player.
- 1:56:25Speaker 3: Now like like today or. TOMORROW i don't. KNOW i
- 1:56:28Speaker 3: have no, idea but in, GENERAL I i do feel
- 1:56:31Speaker 3: like we might start seeing that. More in general player
- 1:56:34Speaker 3: for player trades similarly to like what we see in other.
- 1:56:37Speaker 3: LEAGUES i do think that those are becoming a little
- 1:56:39Speaker 3: bit more popular in THE.
- 1:56:40Speaker 4: Nfl, well some of this because there's less practice time,
- 1:56:42Speaker 4: now so you miss like the reason that we're never
- 1:56:45Speaker 4: player for player. Trades like in, baseball you just plug
- 1:56:47Speaker 4: a guy in the lineup and you tell them to go.
- 1:56:48Speaker 4: Hit he doesn't need to learn a whole. Playbook you,
- 1:56:51Speaker 4: know in basketball and hockey it's a little more, involved
- 1:56:53Speaker 4: but there's not as you're not the systems aren't necessarily
- 1:56:56Speaker 4: as different in football because there's so much carryover between. Systems,
- 1:56:59Speaker 4: now it is a little easier to kind of swap
- 1:57:02Speaker 4: player for player into the. Season and we are sort
- 1:57:06Speaker 4: of into the season right the whole spring install is done,
- 1:57:08Speaker 4: yep and not worry about guys missing as. Much LIKE
- 1:57:11Speaker 4: i think a guy Like john New smith has been
- 1:57:13Speaker 4: In Arthur smith's, offense so it's gonna be easy for
- 1:57:16Speaker 4: him to catch.
- 1:57:16Speaker 2: Up that's a good. Point all, right last call, HERE
- 1:57:19Speaker 2: z is In. Massachusetts what's?
- 1:57:20Speaker 6: UP? Z, hey how you guys.
- 1:57:24Speaker 10: Doing what do you think of A J moore for
- 1:57:27Speaker 10: a third second and a FOURTH Dj?
- 1:57:30Speaker 2: Moore you mean In? Chicago, yeah, yeah.
- 1:57:34Speaker 4: YEAH i know if that WAS Aj, MOORE Dj, Brown.
- 1:57:36Speaker 2: Thanks for the, CALL. Z i figured he MEANT Dj.
- 1:57:38Speaker 2: MOORE i LOVE Dj.
- 1:57:40Speaker 4: Moore that would TAKE Aj. Moore they need a deep safety.
- 1:57:43Speaker 4: RETIRED i LIKE.
- 1:57:43Speaker 2: Dj moore the.
- 1:57:44Speaker 3: Player i've always liked his. Game, uh he didn't have
- 1:57:48Speaker 3: the greatest of seasons last year just in, general just
- 1:57:51Speaker 3: body language, wise wasn't the greatest. EITHER i don't know
- 1:57:54Speaker 3: if it would take that much at this. POINT Dj
- 1:57:56Speaker 3: moore to, me feels a little bit below THE Dk
- 1:58:00Speaker 3: Metcalf terry.
- 1:58:00Speaker 4: McCain he's also not that kind of receiver struggled in McDaniel's.
- 1:58:05Speaker 2: Offense, yeah he's a little. Bit he can run routes on.
- 1:58:08Speaker 4: The outside a little more scheme touchy isn't.
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: He a little, bit he's.
- 1:58:11Speaker 4: VERSATILE i don't. KNOW i wouldn't be against. It they
- 1:58:13Speaker 4: need the. TALENT i just don't. Know, like like you,
- 1:58:16Speaker 4: said that's not adding A terry McLaurin adding A Dk.
- 1:58:20Speaker 4: Metcalf THAT'S i don't even know AT i mean health health.
- 1:58:24Speaker 4: ASIDE i don't even know if he'd be Above. Digs,
- 1:58:26Speaker 4: REALLY i still Think diggs would be your primary wide
- 1:58:28Speaker 4: receiver edition if he's fully.
- 1:58:29Speaker 3: HEALTHY i think he's probably younger and healthier Than, diggs so,
- 1:58:33Speaker 3: maybe but he's A he's definitely a tier below metcalf
- 1:58:38Speaker 3: and McLaurin to.
- 1:58:39Speaker 2: Me but he's a good. Player he definitely would be one.
- 1:58:42Speaker 3: Of their best. Receivers but that's you, know the bar
- 1:58:44Speaker 3: is not very high. There but, YEAH i CAN i
- 1:58:47Speaker 3: could see, that BUT i don't think it would take
- 1:58:49Speaker 3: quite as. MUCH i think you could actually GET Dj,
- 1:58:51Speaker 3: moore maybe even for like a fourth round. Pick look
- 1:58:55Speaker 3: at like What Maari cooper has been going for in
- 1:58:57Speaker 3: some of these trades that he's moved. In, yeah it
- 1:59:00Speaker 3: seems like a little similar to something like.
- 1:59:01Speaker 2: That so that's the show.
