- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the Chicken coop.
- 0:31Let's talk about being bold. This past month I have been
- 0:35working with a client who is in a very tough industry as she's
- 0:39navigating moving from one position to another.
- 0:43And she is someone who is incredibly talented, very, very
- 0:49creative. You know, everything that you
- 0:51would want to have in a person working for you in this type of
- 0:54industry, you would want in this person.
- 0:57And she also happens to have this like side of herself where
- 1:02we have this conversation often about are you playing to win or
- 1:07are you playing not to lose? What your gained is so far.
- 1:11And this, this is so tricky because every time you've, and
- 1:15I've talked about this piece multiple times about, you know,
- 1:18my husband uses this metaphor, talking about football games all
- 1:21the time. When someone gets a lead in a
- 1:22game, he'll say the coach will switch and he'll start playing
- 1:26not to lose and he's not playing to win.
- 1:29And there's a difference. So she and I started talking
- 1:31about this. I was teaching her the concept
- 1:34for the last, you know, 6-7 months we've been working on
- 1:36this concept and we got down to this point about like, are you
- 1:40willing to be bold? And she's like, well, how bold?
- 1:43And I'm like, just bold like this.
- 1:44Just talk about the the scale of bold after.
- 1:47Just say, am I willing to be bold first and foremost?
- 1:51And she stopped and she paused and she said, yes, I'm willing
- 1:54to be bold. I said, OK, so let's start
- 1:57talking about what bold looks like.
- 1:59So you tell me something that you think is bold in getting
- 2:03this position and I'll tell you something and we'll completely
- 2:06pitch and catch and come up with ideas.
- 2:09And the process of doing this, she realized that what she was
- 2:13doing was playing not to lose. She was not playing to win.
- 2:18I was pitching out things that were bigger and more bold.
- 2:22And she was playing it safe. And, oh, playing it safe.
- 2:26She got so like, why am I doing this?
- 2:28And I'm like, it just based around culture right now.
- 2:32Nobody wants to stick their heads out too far.
- 2:34Nobody wants to get into a position where they're like, you
- 2:37know, able to have it chopped off.
- 2:39We know what happens when that comes about.
- 2:42So more and more people are afraid to play that bold, bold
- 2:47card. And that's not how you win.
- 2:50You have to be bold. You have to go for what you
- 2:52want. You have to be willing to just
- 2:55walk up. Now, you know, I'm out here in
- 2:57the chicken coop and I've, I think I've told everybody that,
- 2:59you know, we have 54 chickens right now and one of, and only
- 3:05one rooster. And now that we've lost Rufus
- 3:09and of those 54, only about 8 of them now are laying eggs.
- 3:14And that's not every day because the, the, the light has gone
- 3:17down and they're all, they're all in the midst of losing
- 3:21feathers and molting and they're all cranky and whatnot.
- 3:25And I'll tell you, Miss Celine, which everyone knows is like,
- 3:28she's just my sweetest, coolest. She's a French crevacore and
- 3:35she's but she's got an attitude with other chickens.
- 3:37And she's not the biggest hen here.
- 3:40And she will walk over as bold as can be.
- 3:42And if they're doing something and she wants it instead of
- 3:45them, she will shove them right out of the way.
- 3:47She is bold. And all the others look at her
- 3:49like, who are you? You're so small.
- 3:51But they don't do anything to move her.
- 3:53And I always laugh and I say she is the way the universe reminds
- 3:56me how to step in and just be bold.
- 4:00And then the ones that are the giant ones, like I, some of my,
- 4:04the girls that are bigger, the ones that are just larger in
- 4:09size overall, whether it's feathers or actual weight or
- 4:12whatnot, like my splash Moran's, they look so puffy and so big,
- 4:17but they don't assert themselves.
- 4:19They pull back and they miss out on things because of that.
- 4:24So the real crux of this conversation is, are you willing
- 4:27to be bold to get what you want? Are you willing to take chances?
- 4:30Are you willing to step into that place and not play the game
- 4:36in a, in a way that allows you to just pull yourself back to
- 4:40say, oh, yeah, well, I did everything I could do or be
- 4:43bold, reach out, send the emails.
- 4:44Now, the moral of the story comes back to this client ended
- 4:48up sending an e-mail. We crafted it.
- 4:50She sent it off and she didn't hear anything.
- 4:52She's like, I haven't heard anything.
- 4:53And I was like, just wait, Just wait.
- 4:56And then it was like a week. She hadn't heard anything.
- 4:59And she said, hey, something just came up that I saw in the
- 5:01industry and I'm going to reach out and I'm going to say
- 5:04something again. I was a brilliant to it show
- 5:07that you're watching your monitoring and you're not
- 5:09holding back because they didn't answer that first e-mail and she
- 5:13did it. And guess what happened?
- 5:15They messaged her two hours later and said, OK, we need you
- 5:19to come in, we want to talk to you.
- 5:21And guess what? Now she has an offer on the
- 5:23table to come in as a consultant.
- 5:26And this is exactly what she had put on to her manifesting list
- 5:32for by the end of the year. So something to think about,
- 5:36right? Being bold, taking the risk,
- 5:39doing something like that, sending the e-mail, asking for
- 5:42the lead, letting somebody know you do what you do.
- 5:44It's all available, my friends. It's all available.
- 5:47OK. I hope you guys have a blessed
- 5:49day and I will see you tomorrow. Be bold.
- 5:52Bye.
