- 0:05Speaker 2: hundred degrees man, right here on the number one podcast
- 0:09Speaker 2: of My dog Bootleg Cab.
- 0:11Speaker 3: You're yo Boutlet CAV Podcast. Man, special guests in here.
- 0:18Speaker 3: It's not every day we get two living legends walking
- 0:20Speaker 3: into the Boutlet CAV podcast. But we got to right now, Man,
- 0:25Speaker 3: A lot of people see, these guys are the soundtrack
- 0:27Speaker 3: to my childhood. A lot of people meaning me Manny Freshman, Juvenile.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Yes, thank you, brother, thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Finally I'm over here.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Hey.
- 0:34Speaker 3: I just want you all to know if you told,
- 0:36Speaker 3: like the twelve year old me that this was happening,
- 0:39Speaker 3: I would be fucking tripping balls for sure.
- 0:42Speaker 5: So this is a man, I mean, bro in meeting you.
- 0:45Speaker 5: You know, I appreciate when just the warm hello you came.
- 0:49Speaker 5: You know, you was like, bro, like I'll fuck with you.
- 0:52Speaker 5: You just like, dude, you don't even understand, you know,
- 0:54Speaker 5: And that's the ship that you know, you know your
- 0:56Speaker 5: mission is complete.
- 0:57Speaker 1: When yeah, I.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Felt like it's funny too. I think I told you
- 1:00Speaker 3: on the first I was like, Bro, you don't understand
- 1:02Speaker 3: how much of a big deal it was recently because
- 1:04Speaker 3: for for whatever reason, I got that work was not
- 1:07Speaker 3: on Spotify yea forever, and I was like tired of
- 1:11Speaker 3: going on YouTube and pulling up the bullshit like YouTube
- 1:14Speaker 3: uploads of yeah and so yeah. I mean that it
- 1:18Speaker 3: wasn't for.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Yeah, that's kind of like Project English m Yeah yeah,
- 1:26Speaker 2: because you can't you can't find.
- 1:29Speaker 3: So the twenty fifth anniversary of Back That Ass Up is,
- 1:35Speaker 3: first of all, I always say this. I'm on video
- 1:37Speaker 3: saying this a lot. It could go down as the
- 1:41Speaker 3: greatest hip hop song of all time. And I say
- 1:43Speaker 3: that with full confidence. I'm not saying it is or
- 1:46Speaker 3: it isn't, but it very much well could be because
- 1:49Speaker 3: I don't I can't think of the other song that
- 1:51Speaker 3: you could play in peak hours of a nightclub for
- 1:54Speaker 3: any crowd, and it just goes the fuck off to
- 1:56Speaker 3: this day, like.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:00Speaker 3: It's like to me, like you're gonna get a bigger
- 2:02Speaker 3: reaction than if you play like an usher, yeah, or
- 2:04Speaker 3: you play too short blow the whistle, like these are
- 2:05Speaker 3: other records about this record, like like back that Ass
- 2:08Speaker 3: Up is like it's timeless forever.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm all right, to your name.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Two more songs. You're right, bro, that blow the whistle.
- 2:15Speaker 5: Man, Yeah, blow the whistle is gonna be It's gonna
- 2:18Speaker 5: be right there with you.
- 2:19Speaker 3: But if you played at a bar Mitzvah, yeah, yeah,
- 2:24Speaker 3: good club.
- 2:24Speaker 2: It has happened.
- 2:25Speaker 5: Yeah, wherever transleas with with anybody, like you know what
- 2:30Speaker 5: I'm saying, klu Klux playing raby.
- 2:33Speaker 2: K Yo.
- 2:36Speaker 3: You can play back that ass up at a Cobblo
- 2:38Speaker 3: rally or a Trump rally. You know what I'm saying.
- 2:47Speaker 4: I've heard it all man.
- 2:51Speaker 3: It's crazy though, because, like uh, I mean twenty five
- 2:53Speaker 3: years later, I mean I've been seeing the tour stuff
- 2:55Speaker 3: with the live band and just just the moment you
- 2:57Speaker 3: guys have been creating with this. How does it feel
- 2:59Speaker 3: to sell a ready with the fans in this manner?
- 3:01Speaker 2: It's been fun, man, it's been real fun. It's been
- 3:04Speaker 2: a blessing, you know, especially working with my big brother
- 3:06Speaker 2: Man and we sanging songs that we've been singing for
- 3:09Speaker 2: twenty five plus years and seeing the reaction from not
- 3:13Speaker 2: only you know, the fans from back in the nine
- 3:16Speaker 2: nine to two thousands, the new fans, like the fans
- 3:19Speaker 2: that's been taught by their parents like bag them. You know,
- 3:21Speaker 2: when mama was young, this was my song right here,
- 3:24Speaker 2: that's what I used to listen to. This what we
- 3:25Speaker 2: went out to. So man, just to be living it
- 3:28Speaker 2: out right now in real time, is this crazy for us?
- 3:31Speaker 3: Yeah? It's interesting too because when we think of four
- 3:35Speaker 3: hundred Degrees, it's an album that has like stood the
- 3:39Speaker 3: test of time. But it's also an album that, for
- 3:43Speaker 3: whatever reason, I don't know why, we always will hear
- 3:46Speaker 3: about like the Illmatics and the Reasonable Doubts and to
- 3:49Speaker 3: get richard Ie Tryan's but I feel like four hundred
- 3:52Speaker 3: Degrees has to be in that conversation more. I know
- 3:54Speaker 3: it is certain people, but it's like it's one of
- 3:56Speaker 3: those albums that's like up on the wall with like
- 3:58Speaker 3: good Kid, Mad City, you know what I mean, Like one.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Of the ones I think a lot of it was.
- 4:03Speaker 5: We kind of took the nice guy approach, you know,
- 4:05Speaker 5: were just like, we know what, We're gonna let the
- 4:07Speaker 5: music speak for it. But it's obvious that we definitely
- 4:11Speaker 5: got to be a voice about it and say it
- 4:13Speaker 5: because it's like you said, you don't say nobody else
- 4:17Speaker 5: because it's it's definitely like you said it should be
- 4:19Speaker 5: in more conversations, you know, and because it is not
- 4:23Speaker 5: only to the South the world like you know this,
- 4:25Speaker 5: this this introduced a lot of people to Southern rap.
- 4:28Speaker 5: You know this, This was like and it was a
- 4:30Speaker 5: big deal for us to win the East Coast and
- 4:33Speaker 5: the West Coast because that was always a dream as
- 4:35Speaker 5: a kid. You know, we like we we I love
- 4:38Speaker 5: New Orleans, but we like we want our records to
- 4:40Speaker 5: be played everywhere, you know.
- 4:42Speaker 1: And the dream was, you know, us growing up.
- 4:45Speaker 5: We grew up on in w A, we grew up
- 4:47Speaker 5: on you know what was with jay Z or whatever,
- 4:50Speaker 5: and we accepted all of that New Orleans, but they
- 4:53Speaker 5: wasn't accepting to us, like you know. So the big
- 4:56Speaker 5: thing was, we want to hit these records in New York.
- 5:00Speaker 5: We want to hear these records in California, you know
- 5:02Speaker 5: what I'm saying. So that getting that accomplished was kind
- 5:06Speaker 5: of it was more important than making money, you know what.
- 5:09Speaker 2: I'm saying, and not just that doing it and being
- 5:13Speaker 2: who we are doing it, you know, at the same time,
- 5:15Speaker 2: not changing who we are to get the attention from
- 5:18Speaker 2: New York or the West Coast, just doing our music
- 5:22Speaker 2: and being who we are, staying authentic in that. I
- 5:24Speaker 2: think that was the main thing with us, and then
- 5:26Speaker 2: introducing people to to the whole New Orleans culture, you know.
- 5:30Speaker 4: The way we act, the way we talk, the way
- 5:32Speaker 4: we dress.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I think that played a big role too, because we
- 5:35Speaker 2: not only changed I feel like we not only changed
- 5:39Speaker 2: the way people talk, we changed the way people dress.
- 5:42Speaker 2: You know a lot of people started wearing T shirts
- 5:44Speaker 2: and JA.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Bowls, and I mean I was wearing a X because
- 5:46Speaker 3: you guys, Yeah see you know what I'm saying. I
- 5:48Speaker 3: had a fucking aver X leather I got from a
- 5:50Speaker 3: Burlington co Factory and I wore that bitch during the
- 5:53Speaker 3: summer in Arizona and it was like a four X.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Imagine me, I'm in the eighth grade.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Women. He had to get it way bigger than when
- 6:03Speaker 2: it was closet.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Well, I'm like, damn, I could make a sofa man
- 6:08Speaker 1: money Now.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Yeah, they're coming back. But you guys put those actions
- 6:12Speaker 3: on the map. Yeah, I forget what photo shoot It
- 6:14Speaker 3: was all us?
- 6:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that was Yeah, that was a cash money
- 6:19Speaker 2: Poto shop with everybody hot boys who was on the
- 6:21Speaker 2: handleballs and stuff.
- 6:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Uh, you talked about kind of like when everyone's acceptance.
- 6:26Speaker 3: You and jay Z have this like cool little run
- 6:29Speaker 3: because he hopped on the Hot remix and then we
- 6:31Speaker 3: were on volume three. How important was getting Hove to
- 6:35Speaker 3: kind of because listen to be fair, when Hot came out,
- 6:38Speaker 3: Hove wasn't quite Hove. Yeah, I mean, but he was
- 6:40Speaker 3: still jay Z.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Yeah in the South man in that time when when
- 6:44Speaker 2: jay Z, you know, when he jumped on the song,
- 6:47Speaker 2: it was a great move for both of us.
- 6:49Speaker 3: And I'm a kidding, I say you were probably hotter
- 6:51Speaker 3: than Hoe at that time.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I wanted to break the ice in New York, and
- 6:54Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure it was some grounds that he needed
- 6:56Speaker 2: to cover in the South because a lot of people
- 6:58Speaker 2: are we from.
- 6:59Speaker 4: We wasn't really on ya.
- 7:00Speaker 5: I was a fan of the crazy thing is me
- 7:02Speaker 5: and Jew was the only two in cash Money who.
- 7:05Speaker 2: We jumped on the song. We was our money.
- 7:08Speaker 5: We was like, bro, man, that's it, you know in
- 7:11Speaker 5: New York, you know, yeah, everybody was like, man, who
- 7:15Speaker 5: is Who's.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Like? What is it like? Rock?
- 7:22Speaker 5: But that was important to even how we did songs.
- 7:26Speaker 5: There was really no outside influence, you know what I'm saying.
- 7:29Speaker 5: And that was more so because baby wanted to keep
- 7:33Speaker 5: it all cash money if you if you, if you
- 7:35Speaker 5: really think about it, the only features we probably ever
- 7:37Speaker 5: had was bun be you know what I'm saying. Before
- 7:42Speaker 5: I got yeah, you know what I'm saying. So that
- 7:44Speaker 5: was the only feature that that is true.
- 7:45Speaker 3: It was only you guys on everything.
- 7:47Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, and so. But they didn't listen to outside music.
- 7:52Speaker 5: They really did not listen to outside music, Like you
- 7:55Speaker 5: know what I'm saying, And I'm just like, dude, there's
- 7:57Speaker 5: a whole world outside of this.
- 7:59Speaker 1: They like, nah, this gonna stay us.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Yeah, Yo, I think obviously you know, uh blink blink
- 8:07Speaker 3: is kind of what kicked off I guess the uh
- 8:12Speaker 3: the money ship that you guys became so known for.
- 8:15Speaker 3: But floss in season and then like the Big Timers albums,
- 8:19Speaker 3: there was like.
- 8:19Speaker 2: The Time albums I think really said the tone listen.
- 8:22Speaker 3: But I would just have these visuals of like these
- 8:25Speaker 3: cars that didn't exist and like all this jewelry and
- 8:31Speaker 3: just like like I was like, yo, this these are
- 8:33Speaker 3: the richest motherfuckers on the plane. Like where do they
- 8:38Speaker 3: get the car with the steering wheel in the middle?
- 8:41Speaker 3: But like, were you guys would y'all just be in
- 8:43Speaker 3: the studio with like a dart board and be like
- 8:46Speaker 3: like yo, yo, you know'd be crazy if we had
- 8:48Speaker 3: this ship, let's put it away.
- 8:49Speaker 2: We had this thing about we're gonna speak it into
- 8:52Speaker 2: being the truth, you know, speaking into fruition. So you know,
- 8:56Speaker 2: in the beginning, a lot of stuff we talked about
- 8:58Speaker 2: we didn't have it, but it started. You know, it's
- 9:01Speaker 2: you know, so then you know, things that we our
- 9:05Speaker 2: imagination became our reality. Right, So then we were like,
- 9:09Speaker 2: now we've got we got to take it to another level.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Now.
- 9:11Speaker 5: We even had some arguments about it because because you
- 9:15Speaker 5: think early on what we was trying to do and
- 9:18Speaker 5: it did work, you know, and I think boosting them
- 9:20Speaker 5: even followed this. The way we did it, we did
- 9:24Speaker 5: stuff that was for the average dude. We just showed
- 9:27Speaker 5: you how to fix it. You know, we had like
- 9:28Speaker 5: PT cruises, We had Chrysler three hundred.
- 9:31Speaker 3: I was gonna say, you guys single handedly probably responsible
- 9:34Speaker 3: for PT cruisers having a longer run.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Than you know what I'm saying, Well, I forgot I
- 9:39Speaker 2: got how I got that damn PC cruiser.
- 9:41Speaker 5: But yeah, but we was you know, we figured out
- 9:43Speaker 5: that it was more people like that than that lamb
- 9:46Speaker 5: bow thing, you know what I'm saying.
- 9:48Speaker 1: And then baby turned into a monster.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Of course, I remember when there was what was that
- 9:53Speaker 3: Birdman song that came a little later with the they
- 9:56Speaker 3: keep spinning about the.
- 10:01Speaker 2: He started buying calls. He went crazy. Yeah, but man
- 10:05Speaker 2: and being man and being you know, he being light
- 10:09Speaker 2: on it for himself because many got I don't know
- 10:11Speaker 2: how many calls we got. Man got over a hundred calls.
- 10:14Speaker 3: It's funny because you're being manny fresh and you're like yo'
- 10:17Speaker 3: he's like this. You're like you're very like unassuming, like
- 10:19Speaker 3: you know, like you're not from the big timers, like
- 10:21Speaker 3: you weren't all these records talking that man, you're.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Talking about a lot of them call. Yeah, man, he
- 10:26Speaker 2: got a lot of their calls. I'm gonna be honest
- 10:28Speaker 2: with you. If you hear him say somethbody call, he
- 10:30Speaker 2: got it. He got it, bro. He just built my
- 10:33Speaker 2: lads car like.
- 10:34Speaker 4: He got it.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Are you you're still heavily messing with heavy old schools?
- 10:38Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, what car did you schools? Wait?
- 10:41Speaker 3: Wait wait the warehouse? Yeah yeah, I'm telling you, Jay Leno,
- 10:48Speaker 3: like that card you own, I.
- 10:51Speaker 5: Don't know, bro, don't clips you got. I don't even
- 10:54Speaker 5: want to. I don't even want to count him. You
- 10:55Speaker 5: know how you feel like that would be crazy?
- 10:57Speaker 3: What's the over under?
- 11:00Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah?
- 11:01Speaker 3: Wow, so you got a fucking collection?
- 11:04Speaker 2: Yeah, my son and bought a call from him. My
- 11:06Speaker 2: first call from told me another call.
- 11:09Speaker 3: You got to the other ship?
- 11:10Speaker 1: What are you?
- 11:12Speaker 2: When he said I sold juve the Beama, that's the
- 11:15Speaker 2: truth he did.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I don't.
- 11:19Speaker 5: I don't send his son nothing because when I send it,
- 11:21Speaker 5: I know he's gonna go mess with him about it,
- 11:23Speaker 5: like Brian sending you no more calls because you be
- 11:25Speaker 5: bother your daddy by Like, man, I need.
- 11:26Speaker 2: To get this, And I'm like, no, you know me
- 11:29Speaker 2: right now about something you got? He got fress got
- 11:32Speaker 2: a call with the ball in the back.
- 11:33Speaker 5: Of it and Honda actors the little small little Honda
- 11:38Speaker 5: trucks like they like little bitty little tiny trucks, you
- 11:42Speaker 5: know what I'm saying. And I made mine into like
- 11:44Speaker 5: a bar or whatever and where you can put bottles
- 11:47Speaker 5: and all of that and it I'll show it till
- 11:48Speaker 5: you have to, you know, before we get.
- 11:50Speaker 4: You know, that's crazy, It's fantastic.
- 11:52Speaker 3: You're like you know what, straight out the plastic.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Still yeah, he's still stantastic.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Like I'm bored, let me just trick out a Honda.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that shit's crazy.
- 12:01Speaker 3: You need a fucking reality show. Somebody needs to put
- 12:04Speaker 3: you on some sort of network. Jay Leno has a show,
- 12:07Speaker 3: Manny Fresh needs to show.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Isn't the words?
- 12:12Speaker 3: Yo? I always wondered this because as a kid, I
- 12:16Speaker 3: was a big No Limit fan, right, and then it
- 12:19Speaker 3: felt like there was like a switch that happened when
- 12:22Speaker 3: you guys came, and like I was like a big
- 12:25Speaker 3: cash Money fan, and all my friends were big Cash
- 12:27Speaker 3: Money fans. Obviously, Ghetto Dope is one of my favorite,
- 12:30Speaker 3: you know albums. Ever shouts at master P. But how
- 12:32Speaker 3: like what the rivalry was like a real thing, you.
- 12:34Speaker 4: Know, let me be truthful about everything.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Before I got with Cash Money, right, I was a
- 12:39Speaker 2: master P fan. I used to listen to master P
- 12:41Speaker 2: a lot him, though not not the whole No Limit.
- 12:44Speaker 2: You didn't have all those groups yet. It was just
- 12:47Speaker 2: him when he was out there and Richmond doing his thing.
- 12:49Speaker 2: I actually like that that, you know. I actually listened
- 12:53Speaker 2: a little bit before that too, Like before that, like
- 12:55Speaker 2: nine and nine Ways to Die and all that stuff, like,
- 12:58Speaker 2: you know, I was on him then. So when he
- 13:01Speaker 2: when he came out and started doing this thing and no, lemme,
- 13:04Speaker 2: I kind of like, you know me, I thought he wasn't.
- 13:06Speaker 2: I didn't know he was from New Orleans or not.
- 13:08Speaker 2: So it was a confusion with me and them. And
- 13:10Speaker 2: then my pops, my pop's knew him though. My pops like,
- 13:14Speaker 2: nah he went to Booker t I know him, like
- 13:16Speaker 2: I know his people and everything, like oh damn. So
- 13:19Speaker 2: you know, then come to find out I know all
- 13:21Speaker 2: these people poking and everybody, and so that changed everything
- 13:24Speaker 2: for me. When I got the cash, money and stuff.
- 13:26Speaker 2: When people was trying to make the friction, it was like, nah,
- 13:28Speaker 2: they got on and we got on. They we they
- 13:31Speaker 2: had the opportunity to do their thing and we do.
- 13:33Speaker 2: We're doing our things. But there's no hatred between us.
- 13:36Speaker 2: The fans is creating that.
- 13:37Speaker 3: I was gonna say, can you imagine if you guys
- 13:39Speaker 3: if this was happening.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Oh yeah, right, and with the Internet, it would.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Be fans would have created this crazy The.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Fans was doing it.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Man.
- 13:45Speaker 2: The fans was like trying to pit us against each other.
- 13:47Speaker 2: I'm like, man, I just went to the club with mystical,
- 13:50Speaker 2: like y'all tripping because.
- 13:52Speaker 3: There was like the five or four Boys and then
- 13:53Speaker 3: the Hot Boys.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Me and Mysical was in three nine Posita together back
- 13:57Speaker 2: in the day, so he been my party. So when
- 14:00Speaker 2: he went to No Limit and stuff, I was like, congratulations,
- 14:02Speaker 2: didn't no Limit?
- 14:03Speaker 4: Then? Uh, Magnoya Slim.
- 14:06Speaker 2: You know. I kind of like brought him to the
- 14:08Speaker 2: whole rap world because he said he wanted the rap.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Was like, nah, be serious and start writing, and you know,
- 14:13Speaker 2: I kind of like paid for his first demo. So
- 14:14Speaker 2: when he went to Know Limit, I was like, all right,
- 14:16Speaker 2: my brother over there now, So how hate? It's gonna
- 14:19Speaker 2: be hate.
- 14:20Speaker 1: A lot of people don't know the stories DJ do
- 14:24Speaker 1: in the same.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Came Kel was three nine positive, right, So that was
- 14:27Speaker 4: my fam.
- 14:28Speaker 2: That was the first person to make a beat for me.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Besides Harvey R. Was the first one to make one
- 14:32Speaker 2: for me for Talent Show. But then cal was the
- 14:34Speaker 2: first one to make me something and put it on
- 14:36Speaker 2: the track and record for it.
- 14:37Speaker 4: So it's like that.
- 14:39Speaker 3: So it was like an overstated rivalry. It was weird,
- 14:41Speaker 3: fan created weird.
- 14:43Speaker 1: It was weird.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Yeah, now that's ours. Was like, damn if the five
- 14:46Speaker 3: or Four Boys and the How Boys did a record together.
- 14:48Speaker 1: But you got to think about it. It worked.
- 14:50Speaker 5: So that's why it was like, you know what, if
- 14:52Speaker 5: that's the way it is, that's the way.
- 14:54Speaker 2: For sure, because because we sold a lot of records
- 14:56Speaker 2: at the same time, so sure, I got to give
- 14:58Speaker 2: him credit for that date. We didn't stop. They sales
- 15:00Speaker 2: and they damn sure weren't gonna stop. Hours we was
- 15:02Speaker 2: at it, we felt like the world was ours.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Yeah, Uh, Juvie, how often you go back? Obviously you
- 15:09Speaker 3: have to perform four hundred degrees at this point, but
- 15:11Speaker 3: prior to this anniversary run, how often would you go
- 15:14Speaker 3: back and like listen to that album and just like
- 15:17Speaker 3: just from just reminisce or just revisit it.
- 15:21Speaker 2: When I listened to the songs that I don't perform
- 15:23Speaker 2: right when I listen to those, you know, and I'd
- 15:25Speaker 2: be like, damn, man, listen to this one, you know,
- 15:27Speaker 2: like like uh me and Wayne me and Wayne on
- 15:32Speaker 2: uh when when uh.
- 15:35Speaker 4: The run for It.
- 15:36Speaker 2: I think that was one of the songs that we
- 15:39Speaker 2: could have shot a video.
- 15:40Speaker 1: To, you know.
- 15:41Speaker 2: I just I have one of the songs I'm like, man,
- 15:43Speaker 2: I wish we me and my little bro could have
- 15:44Speaker 2: shot a video to that song because people was really
- 15:46Speaker 2: trying to do the dance and stuff.
- 15:48Speaker 4: I think could have been a big situation.
- 15:49Speaker 3: I don't think it's too late because you just dropped
- 15:51Speaker 3: the video like twenty five.
- 15:52Speaker 4: Yes later, Wayne, and I gotta get Wayne.
- 15:54Speaker 3: I mean, you got Louisiana coming.
- 15:56Speaker 2: He's a busy man. He's a busy man. He's you know,
- 15:59Speaker 2: it's hard to be the great rapper on the world,
- 16:01Speaker 2: you know, in the world, and uh and find time
- 16:04Speaker 2: for your big bro.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Are you guys excited? I hope you sees this? Yehoot
- 16:10Speaker 3: a video?
- 16:10Speaker 1: Why not?
- 16:12Speaker 3: I was gonna say, uh, I know, I know you
- 16:14Speaker 3: guys were trying to pull off the reunion ad. I
- 16:17Speaker 3: think it was Essence Fest. Yeah, but it looks like
- 16:20Speaker 3: it's gonna happen.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:21Speaker 5: I mean that's another thing the internet turned into. There
- 16:25Speaker 5: was never the Hot Boys for Essence Fest. The internet
- 16:28Speaker 5: made it that it was baby in French.
- 16:30Speaker 1: It was very man.
- 16:32Speaker 5: It was here start titling it the Hot Boys reunion,
- 16:36Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying.
- 16:37Speaker 1: It was like it was never a Hot Boys reunion.
- 16:39Speaker 2: When we when we was doing Essence Festival, I was
- 16:41Speaker 2: already booked for Louisiana Fest before they even booked me
- 16:44Speaker 2: for the Essence. Yeah, so I was already on it,
- 16:47Speaker 2: but I didn't know it was going to be all
- 16:48Speaker 2: of us. But that was the plan, you know, that
- 16:50Speaker 2: was the plan. That's what they told me. Like, man,
- 16:52Speaker 2: the plan is that we got you, We're gonna get
- 16:53Speaker 2: everybody else, Like, oh cool, everybody everybody, Like.
- 16:57Speaker 3: That's gotta be exciting. How many have you guys figured
- 17:00Speaker 3: how many songs you guys are doing?
- 17:01Speaker 2: I don't think we're gonna figure that out.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Yeah, there's gonna be a lot of minds in the room.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Yeah, that's dope, man, Julie, I always wondered because you
- 17:10Speaker 3: were the guy who broke this whole ship down, and
- 17:14Speaker 3: and you were kind of like the big homie for
- 17:16Speaker 3: everybody else in the crew, Like how much of like
- 17:18Speaker 3: what were you like did you feel like for him?
- 17:21Speaker 2: No?
- 17:21Speaker 3: No, I mean I mean for everybody in the Hotboys, right, Yeah?
- 17:24Speaker 3: But like, did you ever feel like a babysitter ever?
- 17:26Speaker 3: Low key being around like Wayne and turking those guys
- 17:28Speaker 3: when they were like younger.
- 17:29Speaker 2: No, not really, man, I'm talking about Well he was listen.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Because you were like you were the get around on
- 17:36Speaker 3: the artists.
- 17:37Speaker 2: I'm gonna tell you, they picked it like they are.
- 17:39Speaker 2: They're Wayne Wayne waa. Wayne was slick boy. Wayne had
- 17:45Speaker 2: to watch Wayne because Wayne and Wayne in trouble. Wayne
- 17:47Speaker 2: to say something, Wayne have a whole situation. Wane was
- 17:50Speaker 2: way beyond and way smarter than any kid his age, right,
- 17:55Speaker 2: way smart. I always try to tell people Wayne went
- 17:57Speaker 2: to one of the best schools in New Orleans. He's real,
- 18:00Speaker 2: real BookSmart. Wayne knew some things that you wouldn't expect
- 18:03Speaker 2: a kid to know. You know, in the scenes, I did,
- 18:07Speaker 2: but not when it came to the studio. That's the thing, Like, nah,
- 18:10Speaker 2: my little bros. It was body in the studio, but
- 18:13Speaker 2: anything else.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Once you got on the road, you're like what you
- 18:15Speaker 3: oh yeah, oh.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Yeah, we gotta watch him a little yeah yeah, oh yeah.
- 18:18Speaker 1: They got in trouble a lot.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Imagine, like I just think back to like imagine like
- 18:25Speaker 3: being like their age and then going on the Cash
- 18:27Speaker 3: Money Rough Riders tour.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Yeah, oh man.
- 18:29Speaker 4: We used to have so much fun though, man.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Like how crazy was that tour? Like you guys in
- 18:33Speaker 3: DMX on the road at the same time as Oh yeah.
- 18:37Speaker 5: I mean we were just talking about this earlier, and
- 18:39Speaker 5: I let him say his part, But we was talking
- 18:40Speaker 5: about this earlier.
- 18:41Speaker 1: How DMX fired us.
- 18:43Speaker 5: You know, just on the way he performed, you know
- 18:46Speaker 5: what I'm saying, our first two times performed. It kind
- 18:49Speaker 5: of changed the whole outlook on how we was going
- 18:52Speaker 5: at it, you know, how our approach towards performing. Yeah,
- 18:56Speaker 5: because he was just so emotional the way he put then,
- 19:00Speaker 5: you know, and Julee said jokingly, you know what I'm saying,
- 19:03Speaker 5: but it was the real He was like, man, do
- 19:05Speaker 5: you Mexican climb on a speaker? He gonna cry, he
- 19:10Speaker 5: gonna do all of that, and you don't have a chance.
- 19:12Speaker 4: You don't have a chance. They talking about man juve.
- 19:15Speaker 2: You gotta go on after what I'm not going on
- 19:17Speaker 2: after I'm going after anybody except Team makes B.
- 19:20Speaker 4: I'm like, and I'm known to be.
- 19:23Speaker 2: A close I'm known to be one of them artists
- 19:25Speaker 2: that you know what I'm saying, I'm a performer, you
- 19:27Speaker 2: know what I'm saying.
- 19:27Speaker 4: And that dude he scared me.
- 19:30Speaker 2: I just thought day I think he was the greatest
- 19:32Speaker 2: rap performer out there, hands down.
- 19:35Speaker 3: I was just with John Minnelli, who was Jay Z's
- 19:37Speaker 3: old manager, and we're talking about the Hard Knock Life
- 19:40Speaker 3: tour and he was like, yeah, the first date when better?
- 19:44Speaker 3: Well because because DMX went on before jay Z on
- 19:47Speaker 3: the Hard Knocked Life. Yes, He's like, we knew we
- 19:50Speaker 3: were in trouble because all this dude, all the lights
- 19:53Speaker 3: were out and he growled on the mic and the
- 19:54Speaker 3: whole fucking place just lost their fucking out. Man, how
- 19:59Speaker 3: are we supposed top that?
- 20:00Speaker 1: Great?
- 20:01Speaker 3: And made the whole crowd cry.
- 20:03Speaker 5: It's like it's like saying he'll bring you through so
- 20:05Speaker 5: many emotions.
- 20:06Speaker 4: It's like Dowie Cocks.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Man. My office went up there, like, how supposed to
- 20:10Speaker 2: top that?
- 20:11Speaker 1: Man?
- 20:13Speaker 2: I'm m king, I'm great, I'm king Like hell no, man,
- 20:17Speaker 2: I'm sitting back there, nervous as hell. They telling us
- 20:20Speaker 2: because we're in the South man, we're gonna go on
- 20:23Speaker 2: last after Rough Riders.
- 20:24Speaker 4: I'm like, yeah, so.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Damn X made the show. I'm asking, Yeah, he going on?
- 20:31Speaker 2: I said, so who going on stage first? Like I
- 20:35Speaker 2: don't want to be the first.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Like sending kids up there.
- 20:41Speaker 4: No, they go out there and baby Bird go out first.
- 20:43Speaker 5: But see what what what a lot of us, well
- 20:47Speaker 5: me and him had already been doing shows, you know,
- 20:50Speaker 5: even even younger than me. You know, I had records
- 20:53Speaker 5: out and he had some stuff, so he had stage presence.
- 20:56Speaker 5: So what we was kind of messing up on Wayne
- 21:00Speaker 5: Turk and Beg would just go out there and yell.
- 21:03Speaker 5: They would be excited, like, you know, just hit the
- 21:05Speaker 5: stage and just talk over everything. Jewelry was like, listen, bro,
- 21:10Speaker 5: that's gotta be some kind of way that you know,
- 21:12Speaker 5: like when you're saying your thing, I'm gonna shut up.
- 21:14Speaker 5: Everybody shut up. And He's like when I'm saying me,
- 21:16Speaker 5: just shut up. I know my parts, I know all
- 21:18Speaker 5: of them. I don't really need you to help me
- 21:20Speaker 5: because y'all yelling at all my parts y'all just random
- 21:23Speaker 5: word screen, you know what I'm saying. So there was
- 21:27Speaker 5: a lot of stuff we learned on the on the
- 21:29Speaker 5: you know, the Rough Riders tour, like one of them
- 21:32Speaker 5: was from DMX.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Yeah. It was always man with him, you know what
- 21:37Speaker 1: I'm saying.
- 21:37Speaker 5: It would be like a meeting when he wasn't in there, man,
- 21:40Speaker 5: motherfucker telling me what the dude man.
- 21:42Speaker 1: He think he running the group.
- 21:44Speaker 3: That's funny, yo, speaking a lot of stuff man. How
- 21:49Speaker 3: cool was it because I think you kind of reminded
- 21:51Speaker 3: a lot of people all the hits you got, you
- 21:54Speaker 3: know with the tiny dest performance.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, man, we loaded man, y'all trust me, we
- 22:00Speaker 2: didn't even we didn't even.
- 22:03Speaker 4: We didn't even do them all. Man, that's the other part.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Yeah, No, how cool was that to because obviously like
- 22:07Speaker 3: the tidy dest thing is like it either like will
- 22:10Speaker 3: show everybody out dope you are, could expose you for
- 22:13Speaker 3: you know.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Yes, it could make you, will break you, and you
- 22:17Speaker 2: know what it ain't mean for everybody, and not trying
- 22:20Speaker 2: to be critical. I watched other artists went on, and
- 22:22Speaker 2: I watched artists before me, and I kind of like
- 22:25Speaker 2: studied the artist before me once I once I knew
- 22:27Speaker 2: I was about to be on there, I like, I
- 22:28Speaker 2: gotta go start watching people, you know what I'm saying.
- 22:31Speaker 2: I watched Usher, and I'm like, damn us should have
- 22:34Speaker 2: said raised the damn bar. I gotta I gotta get USh.
- 22:37Speaker 2: I gotta I gotta at least come somewhere near where
- 22:39Speaker 2: Usher at. So you know, I gotta get the big homie.
- 22:43Speaker 2: As you know this, this man gonna cut up you
- 22:45Speaker 2: know what I'm saying, He's gonna clown, so.
- 22:47Speaker 4: I gotta get him.
- 22:48Speaker 2: I gotta get him first, and let me see if
- 22:50Speaker 2: I can put you know, a few a couple more
- 22:52Speaker 2: cats from you all is on and just so happened.
- 22:54Speaker 2: John Baptiste was down for it and Trombone Shardy was
- 22:57Speaker 2: down for it.
- 22:58Speaker 4: So it came out.
- 22:58Speaker 2: It was It was one of those things when New
- 23:00Speaker 2: Orleans stood up together and man, it was a great thing,
- 23:03Speaker 2: especially when he did the encore was the part.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Because we was already over time.
- 23:09Speaker 2: We went way over time and we did a hardcore
- 23:12Speaker 2: and then people was like.
- 23:13Speaker 4: Keep it going.
- 23:14Speaker 2: He was like, keep going, keep going.
- 23:17Speaker 1: So yo.
- 23:19Speaker 3: I always wondered this because you guys have some of
- 23:23Speaker 3: the most just random outlandish album covers covers of all time,
- 23:27Speaker 3: Like how you love that and like you know, Chopper
- 23:30Speaker 3: City and the like.
- 23:31Speaker 4: That's what I have nothing to do with that.
- 23:32Speaker 3: I just wondered, like when you guys put these album
- 23:34Speaker 3: covers together and there were it was just like the
- 23:37Speaker 3: craziest like Microsoft, like you was.
- 23:41Speaker 5: This company Penn and Pixel Pixel that's what did Penn
- 23:44Speaker 5: and Pixel did it and and those album covers actually
- 23:47Speaker 5: made Penn and Pixel you know, the company because people
- 23:50Speaker 5: was looking forward to It was wow.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Crazy. It was like, what's going to be the next
- 23:55Speaker 1: album cover?
- 23:55Speaker 3: Like there's fucking helicopters and around animals.
- 24:01Speaker 4: There was like no limit cash money.
- 24:03Speaker 2: And swave House like you just had to crew wash
- 24:06Speaker 2: the album covers up the I forget.
- 24:07Speaker 3: I don't know whose artist it was, but I remember
- 24:09Speaker 3: Pinning Pixel did one with like a big old grizzly
- 24:11Speaker 3: bear on the cover. I think it was a swave
- 24:13Speaker 3: House artist. But it was just like but just that
- 24:15Speaker 3: whole era of art.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Man.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:17Speaker 3: It also is like you know, it's like a like
- 24:19Speaker 3: you see it now on T shirts and ship people
- 24:21Speaker 3: are redoing that for like they really do.
- 24:23Speaker 4: They really do redo it.
- 24:25Speaker 2: And the crazy part about it, they just say what
- 24:27Speaker 2: you want on your album cover. And the first thing
- 24:29Speaker 2: I said was, man, I just want something big, Like.
- 24:35Speaker 4: I said, I want something. I wanted like one of
- 24:36Speaker 4: them swave House covers.
- 24:38Speaker 2: So I'm like, we know the He said, oh yeah,
- 24:40Speaker 2: we already going to Penny Pics. We already got something
- 24:43Speaker 2: in places. I was like, all right, hook it up
- 24:44Speaker 2: because I ain't no, I wasn't good with that type
- 24:46Speaker 2: of stuff. They always what you input is, but look
- 24:49Speaker 2: the name of the album. I used to always tell
- 24:51Speaker 2: you they look the name of the album and how
- 24:53Speaker 2: the pictures going looking on it to leave me out
- 24:55Speaker 2: that part, Just leave me out that part. Everything ain't
- 25:00Speaker 2: shot the message. Well that's it right there.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Yeah. Chris Rock got a yeah, bigger and black.
- 25:06Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, and he was like, who is the
- 25:08Speaker 5: company that did cash money? You know, and there's no
- 25:11Speaker 5: limits stuff, you know. Yeah, it looks it's a pending
- 25:14Speaker 5: pixel covered because it's big.
- 25:16Speaker 3: It's big like the iced out.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Oh you know what I did see that. I did
- 25:20Speaker 2: see that.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Yeah, No, that was yeah, you guys, I mean very
- 25:23Speaker 3: influential with that too. Uh. There's obviously a lot of
- 25:26Speaker 3: talk about the Super Bowl being in New Orleans and
- 25:28Speaker 3: the halftime show. What were your guys' thoughts about you know,
- 25:31Speaker 3: a lot of people think Wayne should have had it.
- 25:33Speaker 2: My quarrel, I had one thing. Now, I feel like
- 25:35Speaker 2: Wayne should have had it a lot of people do,
- 25:37Speaker 2: because he was out there actually campaigning to have the spot.
- 25:40Speaker 2: You know, it ain't too many artists of his statute
- 25:42Speaker 2: that's out there asking to do the halftime, So I
- 25:44Speaker 2: don't that's the first time I ever see that, seeing that,
- 25:47Speaker 2: and it's you know, we so culture driven. I thought
- 25:49Speaker 2: it was a good look also for you know, for
- 25:51Speaker 2: the city. But my real quarrel was now with jay Z,
- 25:54Speaker 2: not with the Kendrick Lamar because Kendrick Lamar is a
- 25:56Speaker 2: great artist, and I'm pretty sure you're gonna do a
- 25:58Speaker 2: great job and time show. And I'm not even counting
- 26:01Speaker 2: out the fact that he probably would have put somebody
- 26:04Speaker 2: from New Orleans on and it still might do well.
- 26:06Speaker 2: I'm not overlooking that. But at the same time, the
- 26:11Speaker 2: NFL and did like ten So this is like the
- 26:13Speaker 2: eleven super Bowl in New Orleans and they keep on.
- 26:16Speaker 4: Excluding anything new. Yeah, that's my point.
- 26:19Speaker 2: So I'm like, you know, you know, a lot of
- 26:22Speaker 2: I feel like a lot of people are mad for
- 26:23Speaker 2: the wrong, you know, mad at the wrong people like,
- 26:26Speaker 2: don't get mad at jay Z. Don't get mad at
- 26:28Speaker 2: it's the people that's hiding the hand that's behind all
- 26:31Speaker 2: of this that I feel like should be stepping up
- 26:34Speaker 2: and being responsible and saying because this is the first time,
- 26:37Speaker 2: and do business with the local businesses. I don't care
- 26:39Speaker 2: what city you bring the Super Bowl to, you should
- 26:41Speaker 2: be doing business with the local businesses and not bringing
- 26:44Speaker 2: these big corporations in and just just counting us out
- 26:47Speaker 2: because it ain't just about the artist being in the
- 26:49Speaker 2: super Bowl. It's about all other things that's going on
- 26:51Speaker 2: around the Super Bowl, the money that's being made in
- 26:54Speaker 2: my city. Don't see none of being a city of privaty,
- 26:56Speaker 2: stricten city that went through something like a training that's
- 26:59Speaker 2: been through COVID like everywhere else. I feel like we're
- 27:03Speaker 2: being overlooked again with another major, another major sports corporation,
- 27:09Speaker 2: just like the n C Double A with the with
- 27:11Speaker 2: the Final Fours, they do the same thing. So it's
- 27:14Speaker 2: a lot of it's a lot of things going on
- 27:16Speaker 2: on there that we don't like that we're trying to
- 27:18Speaker 2: fix because laws will be in place so very soon. Yeah.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Now I think I think like at the end of
- 27:23Speaker 3: the day, like with the Super Bowl thing, it's like,
- 27:26Speaker 3: man like, at least there's a rapper, you know what
- 27:29Speaker 3: I mean, because I feel like for so many years
- 27:31Speaker 3: it was like we get like Maroon five or yeah,
- 27:34Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, Like, you.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Know, it'll be cool with that. They got somebody from
- 27:39Speaker 2: the Maroon five from New Walkans anyway, Yeah we'll yeah,
- 27:45Speaker 2: so we'll be cool with that.
- 27:49Speaker 3: How do you feel about your Saints? Man, I've lost
- 27:51Speaker 3: a lot of money, Spencer Ler.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Last night, everybody our team, right, everybody is out.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Everybody heard Nicky Loomis or he don't play on the team.
- 28:05Speaker 2: That's yeah, he heard too.
- 28:07Speaker 1: He's our own of Gail Benson. Everybody pockets hurt.
- 28:16Speaker 3: I was gonna say, is it is it a Saints town?
- 28:18Speaker 3: Or has the Pelicans ever even gotten close to Yeah?
- 28:22Speaker 5: They messed with the Peals. But believe it or not,
- 28:24Speaker 5: we love our teams.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Yeah, we win, lose, we do.
- 28:27Speaker 5: Yeah, we win unlose. You know what I'm saying. We
- 28:30Speaker 5: could have a loser season and we just got to.
- 28:33Speaker 2: So I think I think we got our Pelicans. We've
- 28:35Speaker 2: made some good moves and off season. I think the
- 28:38Speaker 2: Pelicans gonna have a great season and came back.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Body right, he's he's he's gonna clown.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Manna, We're gonna clown man because I don't I don't
- 28:45Speaker 2: see nothing happening with my Saints right now. So I
- 28:47Speaker 2: gotta turn my head a little bit and see.
- 28:49Speaker 4: You know, basketball season is getting ready to start.
- 28:52Speaker 3: So I want to ask you guys a question. I
- 28:56Speaker 3: want to let's start it let's say let's start in
- 28:57Speaker 3: two thousand and one and back or you know what,
- 28:59Speaker 3: let's you like from the Carter one backwards. Let's rank
- 29:04Speaker 3: the best cash money albums of all time. Damn, give
- 29:07Speaker 3: me the top four, because I think four under Degrees
- 29:09Speaker 3: is under number one.
- 29:11Speaker 5: I would say the Carter one, the Carter one definitely is.
- 29:15Speaker 5: You know, it's a great album from like, you know.
- 29:18Speaker 3: I Missed My Dogs was so special when you heard
- 29:20Speaker 3: that for the first time over here like thoughts on hearing.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Oh, I was touched. I was touched, you know, I
- 29:26Speaker 2: was touched. I reached out to.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Him because I feel like all the fans are like, damn, yeah,
- 29:31Speaker 3: you hear I missed my dog.
- 29:32Speaker 4: I felt bad.
- 29:33Speaker 2: I'm like, damn yeah, Well, maybe I shouldn't want my money.
- 29:39Speaker 5: Cleaned it up real good boy, clean up good.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Maybe I should Maybe I should let that go.
- 29:48Speaker 2: It was the time of this song, like I loved
- 29:50Speaker 2: the song, but it was like, man, you know, we
- 29:52Speaker 2: was in court battles and stuff at the time, so
- 29:54Speaker 2: it was like it was hard for me to feel
- 29:56Speaker 2: a certain way.
- 29:56Speaker 1: You know.
- 29:57Speaker 2: It was like it was it was I had mixed
- 30:00Speaker 2: for sure.
- 30:01Speaker 3: So Carter would be number two, I I gotta put Uh.
- 30:05Speaker 3: I don't know, man, I.
- 30:06Speaker 5: Would even say the first volume of I Got That work,
- 30:09Speaker 5: Like you know, it was so different from anything that
- 30:11Speaker 5: anybody done, Like you know what I'm saying, because what
- 30:14Speaker 5: we was laying down, you know, like everybody was like, man,
- 30:17Speaker 5: this dude just said he got a space shuttle.
- 30:19Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like, yeah, how you love that? Well?
- 30:23Speaker 1: How you love that Volume one? Volume one?
- 30:26Speaker 3: How I Got That works?
- 30:28Speaker 2: My ship me the first hot boys out and get
- 30:31Speaker 2: how You Live?
- 30:32Speaker 1: Oh yeah, the first hot boy man of commercials.
- 30:37Speaker 4: Listen to the commercials? Man clown?
- 30:40Speaker 3: What what for you?
- 30:42Speaker 1: Juvi and Manny?
- 30:43Speaker 3: You guys like, uh, you know we've all seen, like
- 30:46Speaker 3: you said, like the court battles and all this, but
- 30:48Speaker 3: to be in a place of of of harmony with
- 30:50Speaker 3: everybody where you guys, you know, you guys obviously pulled
- 30:53Speaker 3: up to the event at the BT Awards earlier this year,
- 30:56Speaker 3: uh doing the reunion ship being able to grace the
- 30:58Speaker 3: stage with everybody at the same time, Like, uh, is
- 31:02Speaker 3: it nice to be in that space?
- 31:04Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 31:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean what we figured out between us, like
- 31:09Speaker 5: the way we work it is Juvie will put.
- 31:13Speaker 1: The fans and make the fans say it.
- 31:15Speaker 5: So so we when when it was a space where
- 31:17Speaker 5: it's like, Okay, y'all, we're not getting the loan, the
- 31:20Speaker 5: fans gonna tell y'all, you know what I'm saying, Like
- 31:22Speaker 5: I'm gonna put it on the fans, and then the
- 31:23Speaker 5: fans start reaching out to people like what the fans
- 31:26Speaker 5: was telling BG knock it off. Where the fans was
- 31:28Speaker 5: telling Turk you need to chill out, bro, Like you
- 31:30Speaker 5: know what I'm saying, y'all, y'all homies is out there
- 31:32Speaker 5: getting it and they're telling y'all, come on, you know
- 31:35Speaker 5: what I'm saying.
- 31:36Speaker 1: So that was the cool.
- 31:37Speaker 5: Thing about the Internet right now, like the Internet actually
- 31:41Speaker 5: actually won that battle for us because we was like, bro,
- 31:43Speaker 5: while y'all.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Arguing, were getting this, but we're getting this bad.
- 31:46Speaker 3: You guys are running the country. Yeah. Yeah, I feel
- 31:51Speaker 3: like I feel like there's like the flowers are being
- 31:54Speaker 3: given right now at a high level to you, Juvie
- 31:56Speaker 3: and Manny. I think it's dope to see this.
- 31:59Speaker 2: It's all love is whet my brothers together. I don't
- 32:01Speaker 2: I don't want to see that, you know, I don't.
- 32:03Speaker 2: I don't want to see that get it.
- 32:05Speaker 1: You know.
- 32:06Speaker 2: It's like like you say, uh, it's like when a
- 32:08Speaker 2: parent take their kid out to something a sports event,
- 32:12Speaker 2: and it's just certain things you just don't feel you
- 32:14Speaker 2: don't want to see you if you feel like that's
- 32:15Speaker 2: how I feel about that, Like I don't, I don't,
- 32:17Speaker 2: I don't want to see I don't think that's good
- 32:19Speaker 2: for TV, good for nothing.
- 32:21Speaker 4: So you know what I mean. And that's why I
- 32:22Speaker 4: won't never have nothing negative to say.
- 32:24Speaker 2: You know. It's kind of like when my mama, how
- 32:26Speaker 2: my mama raised me. You know, we got these great
- 32:28Speaker 2: platforms and these big platforms, and everybody got their eyes
- 32:32Speaker 2: on you. You know, if you don't have nothing good
- 32:34Speaker 2: to see about somebody, just shut up. For sure.
- 32:36Speaker 4: Shut up.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Keep your opinions to yourself, especially something that you know
- 32:40Speaker 2: affect the next person.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Fresh.
- 32:42Speaker 3: I feel like one of the more slept on projects
- 32:44Speaker 3: in the cash Many catalog was the mind of Manny Fresh.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:48Speaker 3: I feel like it kind of gave you like an
- 32:50Speaker 3: opportunity to kind of like spaz out a little on
- 32:53Speaker 3: the profection side. It was like your only time like
- 32:55Speaker 3: were you really you probably didn't have to bounce anything
- 32:57Speaker 3: creatively off anybody. You're like, I'm gonna just do me.
- 33:00Speaker 3: You feel like that album is a little slept on.
- 33:02Speaker 5: Yeah, But I also think it's kind of, like in
- 33:05Speaker 5: a crazy way as a cult classic because it's a
- 33:07Speaker 5: lot of people who like, dude, you are the craziest
- 33:11Speaker 5: person on the planet. And I'm like, well, that's what
- 33:13Speaker 5: happened when you know, when I'm like, I'm not making
- 33:15Speaker 5: this for nobody else. I was making this for me,
- 33:17Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. And believe me, when I
- 33:20Speaker 5: was doing it, a lot of it was interfered sometimes
- 33:24Speaker 5: where they was like, dude, you shouldn't do that. You
- 33:26Speaker 5: shouldn't do dah da da dad, And I'm like, bro,
- 33:28Speaker 5: this is the only way I know how to do this.
- 33:29Speaker 5: Y'all told me to do it, you know what I'm saying.
- 33:31Speaker 5: Y'all gave me the green light. Let me do it,
- 33:33Speaker 5: you know. And of course everybody wants something to be
- 33:37Speaker 5: a top seller or whatever. But I had this thought
- 33:40Speaker 5: of like, this one is going to take a while,
- 33:43Speaker 5: and it is that now. It became that where people
- 33:47Speaker 5: were like, dude, I love this album, you know what
- 33:49Speaker 5: I'm saying. And some of the cool things is like
- 33:51Speaker 5: even Real Big, Real Big was made a hit off
- 33:54Speaker 5: of a video game.
- 33:55Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 33:57Speaker 5: That was on a video game, and that's how a
- 33:58Speaker 5: lot of people was introduced to and from starting to
- 34:01Speaker 5: buy that, they went and got the album, you know
- 34:04Speaker 5: what I'm saying. So a lot of stuff can happen,
- 34:06Speaker 5: like in a funny way, Like you know what I'm saying.
- 34:08Speaker 5: That was on Midnight Club and everybody's like, oh my god,
- 34:11Speaker 5: I remember us.
- 34:12Speaker 3: Yeah, that was the ship that had the Christ of
- 34:14Speaker 3: three hundred on the top.
- 34:16Speaker 4: Know what the hell y'all talking about?
- 34:19Speaker 2: Looking like what?
- 34:20Speaker 3: Maybe want to get a Chrysler? Yeah, shout to the
- 34:24Speaker 3: Christ of three hundred. Quite possibly the greatest lower level
- 34:30Speaker 3: WE dealer car of all time.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Hurricane Katrina took my fixed up through my damn Chris.
- 34:37Speaker 3: I went through all levels of like low tier WE
- 34:41Speaker 3: dealer cars. I had a Dodge Magnum, Yeah, the three hundred,
- 34:45Speaker 3: you know them cars that you felt like, yeah, yeah,
- 34:47Speaker 3: you know.
- 34:47Speaker 4: That's the hood cars.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Yeah, but hey not, but that was the car.
- 34:52Speaker 5: I think like even us doing that early on, we
- 34:55Speaker 5: want a whole lot of fans because it was something
- 34:57Speaker 5: that you can afford. You know what I'm saying, and
- 35:00Speaker 5: we would do those in videos like you know about
- 35:02Speaker 5: the dozens and you knowing somebody like oh, I could
- 35:04Speaker 5: go out and buy one of them. You know what
- 35:05Speaker 5: I'm saying. And now rappers, you know your favorite rapper
- 35:09Speaker 5: like yours.
- 35:10Speaker 1: I can't, Yeah I can't, but got it that you
- 35:14Speaker 1: know what I'm saying.
- 35:15Speaker 3: It's like almost like the Tesla cyber truck has been
- 35:17Speaker 3: the most affordable wrapper wrapper car in years.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Yeah it's still.
- 35:19Speaker 3: Underd Yeah, exactly, Dude, At Julie, I always wondered you
- 35:25Speaker 3: obviously had a dope run with u TP. I actually
- 35:29Speaker 3: went to uh your area. I was driving from Phoenix
- 35:32Speaker 3: to Tampa and I stopped off and I ate at
- 35:35Speaker 3: the hot wing spot Skip Spot. Yeah they had yes,
- 35:40Speaker 3: chicken and watermelon. Yeah, they had Obama punch Oprah punch.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Right, and the.
- 35:47Speaker 3: Wings were smacking. But I always wondered, like I never
- 35:52Speaker 3: heard I'm sure you've told the story, but like you know,
- 35:55Speaker 3: young young Buck was with you, right and then ended
- 35:58Speaker 3: up going with fifty and gun. Yeah, what what ended up?
- 36:01Speaker 1: Like?
- 36:01Speaker 3: What was kind of the backstory what.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Happened with b It was some old backdoor stuff, man,
- 36:05Speaker 2: he did, but I don't like to talk of you know, negative.
- 36:07Speaker 4: That's why I really speak. Upon't speak on it.
- 36:09Speaker 3: Yeah, because you were because ut he was doing ship
- 36:12Speaker 3: with g and it on the mixtape circuit.
- 36:14Speaker 4: I was, and I was, Uh.
- 36:15Speaker 2: I was kind of like giving him somewhere the record
- 36:17Speaker 2: to it because, uh, you know, at the time fifty
- 36:19Speaker 2: was it was hard for him to record anywhere in
- 36:22Speaker 2: New York. It kind of like he was to be
- 36:25Speaker 2: number one, kind of like, man, nobody didn't like fifty.
- 36:28Speaker 2: But I was in New York and I had the
- 36:30Speaker 2: studio bus, so I let him music. I let him
- 36:32Speaker 2: record on that. He was coming every other every other day,
- 36:34Speaker 2: him and lrd Banks and YAlO Yeah, Yaloe every other
- 36:40Speaker 2: day in ever record. Man, it was all of that's interesting.
- 36:43Speaker 2: We recall it recorded a couple of mixtapes on a
- 36:46Speaker 2: few songs.
- 36:47Speaker 3: What happened to Whacko and Skip with those guys?
- 36:49Speaker 2: I mean they still doing anything, man, You know Skip
- 36:51Speaker 2: a business man now with the with the restaurants. I
- 36:54Speaker 2: haven't seen Whacko lately, so I don't really know what
- 36:56Speaker 2: he's into, but he's still he's still moving around there.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Can you speak to the like importance and like kind
- 37:01Speaker 3: of I feel like Soldier Slim is one of those
- 37:02Speaker 3: guys that if you're not from your area, you don't
- 37:05Speaker 3: really understand, like kind of what he meant to this scene.
- 37:09Speaker 2: He was what Tupac is to to to Oakland and California, right.
- 37:13Speaker 2: He was our I asked to always tell him this, like, Bro,
- 37:18Speaker 2: you you got a whole lot of talent, Bro, and
- 37:21Speaker 2: you gotta take time out and just stopping them and
- 37:23Speaker 2: let everybody else enjoy the talent that you got. You
- 37:26Speaker 2: know what I mean, because ain't nobody out there like
- 37:28Speaker 2: You're just that different. Dude just breed hits. Yeah, he
- 37:32Speaker 2: come up with the slow motion song. It was meant
- 37:34Speaker 2: for me to just be featured on his song. That
- 37:36Speaker 2: song was meant for his album, Yeah, and he was.
- 37:40Speaker 2: He would grabbed my brother and told my brother like, look,
- 37:42Speaker 2: you need to talk to Jude Bro, tell him he
- 37:45Speaker 2: in the system. He was universal, I'm not I'm over
- 37:49Speaker 2: here with Cosh. Not no disrespect to Cash, but he
- 37:51Speaker 2: didn't look at it. He looked at it like with me,
- 37:54Speaker 2: it was gonna be could put him where he needed
- 37:56Speaker 2: to be, And he was right about that. So I listened.
- 37:59Speaker 2: I heard him out in I put that I put
- 38:01Speaker 2: this song on my album.
- 38:03Speaker 4: You know.
- 38:04Speaker 2: The bad part about it was he wasn't He didn't
- 38:06Speaker 2: live to see the success of the song. But he
- 38:08Speaker 2: saw the beginning, but he didn't he didn't see the
- 38:10Speaker 2: end this whole smash it was. Yeah, it's It's one
- 38:14Speaker 2: of these situations every time I think of my dude, man,
- 38:17Speaker 2: you know, yea sure she was here to be able
- 38:19Speaker 2: to you know, enjoy it. I'm pretty sure that was
- 38:22Speaker 2: just the beginning of his hit run because dude just
- 38:24Speaker 2: me a lot of songs, bro.
- 38:25Speaker 3: For sure, a lot of songs manny how because you know,
- 38:29Speaker 3: I think what was dope about the pandemic is we
- 38:31Speaker 3: had all these verses and you were one of the
- 38:33Speaker 3: earlier verses.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Yeah, and we got to.
- 38:35Speaker 3: Kind of I feel like, I feel like a lot
- 38:37Speaker 3: of people like we had to like kind of be like,
- 38:39Speaker 3: oh ship, like I forgot you know what I mean?
- 38:41Speaker 3: Like yeah, yeah him, yeah, you in storage, that's right,
- 38:46Speaker 3: that's right.
- 38:46Speaker 2: Thinking about the concerts.
- 38:47Speaker 3: You and KM, but like how cool was that like
- 38:51Speaker 3: and for you, like, like I wonder like because because
- 38:54Speaker 3: there was like a versus stimulus package, it felt like
- 38:57Speaker 3: I was chiming in. Everybody was in the comments. I'm like, man,
- 39:04Speaker 3: kill him, kill him.
- 39:06Speaker 1: They like people were choosing up in the cot playing
- 39:10Speaker 1: the song.
- 39:12Speaker 5: Dude, you know what I'm saying. That's what a lot
- 39:13Speaker 5: of people don't know. You know what I'm saying. And
- 39:16Speaker 5: it was scripted, you know what I'm saying. And the
- 39:19Speaker 5: thing was, they couldn't get nobody to go against me,
- 39:22Speaker 5: Like they asked t Paine. He was like, nah, man,
- 39:24Speaker 5: he got too many songs, you know what I'm saying.
- 39:26Speaker 5: They asked Lil John. John was like, nah, man, he
- 39:28Speaker 5: got too many songs. Blah blah blah. And so Scott
- 39:31Speaker 5: was like, yeah, I'll do it, you know, and we're good.
- 39:34Speaker 5: But they was just like, bro, you can't come out
- 39:37Speaker 5: like swinging, you know what I'm saying. And Scott went
- 39:40Speaker 5: a little bit off, you know, he went, I'm like, bro,
- 39:43Speaker 5: you know, and I'm texting why this is going on?
- 39:45Speaker 1: And I'm like, bro, you're not sticking to what was
- 39:48Speaker 1: supposed to happen, Like you know what what I'm saying?
- 39:51Speaker 1: What what? What?
- 39:51Speaker 3: What were there?
- 39:52Speaker 1: Like?
- 39:53Speaker 3: What songs didn't you play? You wish you would have
- 39:54Speaker 3: got off? Was there anything that was.
- 39:55Speaker 5: That was a lot of songs. There was a whole
- 39:58Speaker 5: lot of songs I didn't play. But but the thing was,
- 40:02Speaker 5: you know, it's like saying something that you know and
- 40:06Speaker 5: I'm thinking somebody gonna change it, you know, cause I'm like, Bro,
- 40:10Speaker 5: you didn't do that song. That's not that's not a
- 40:12Speaker 5: song that you did. You played on that song. You
- 40:14Speaker 5: know what I'm saying, which is different? That's different. Yeah,
- 40:16Speaker 5: Like you know what I'm saying. And I'm like, you
- 40:18Speaker 5: play like four songs that wasn't your songs. So you know,
- 40:22Speaker 5: I'm going, Okay, so what do we do here?
- 40:25Speaker 3: Because when you do a beat, you're doing the whole Yeah. Yeah,
- 40:29Speaker 3: story jobs. He's played keys on a lot of big records.
- 40:31Speaker 5: Yeah, Doctor Dre like that exactly right, you know what
- 40:34Speaker 5: I'm saying. And I'm just like, you know, like I'm
- 40:37Speaker 5: like this, this is not going like what y'all said,
- 40:40Speaker 5: you know. And the one thing I'm gonna tell you
- 40:42Speaker 5: what I learned right in that that we are different
- 40:46Speaker 5: now because this was the beginning of a whole different
- 40:49Speaker 5: way how people operate. I'm very competitive. I'm very competitive.
- 40:53Speaker 5: I'm like we good, Scott, I'm like you are You're
- 40:55Speaker 5: my dude, but when we're doing this, I don't mess
- 40:59Speaker 5: with you until this over, you know what I'm saying.
- 41:03Speaker 5: And there was a lot of people who was like, bro,
- 41:04Speaker 5: you're going too hard. You're doing da da da da
- 41:06Speaker 5: and the skits and all of that, like bro, you
- 41:08Speaker 5: know wherever I'm from, And I'm like, I am not
- 41:10Speaker 5: the new guy.
- 41:12Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I'm not the new guy,
- 41:14Speaker 1: you know.
- 41:14Speaker 5: And and what a lot of people don't know, this
- 41:17Speaker 5: idea was tooken from me.
- 41:19Speaker 1: I was doing this before they.
- 41:21Speaker 5: Was doing me kl on just blaze, you know, so
- 41:27Speaker 5: you know, tim them just took the idea and turned
- 41:30Speaker 5: it into something, you know, into anything.
- 41:32Speaker 1: But we was doing this already.
- 41:33Speaker 5: We was doing the producer battles, you know what I'm saying,
- 41:36Speaker 5: and all of that went in it, all of whatever.
- 41:39Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 41:40Speaker 5: If you came out, you know what I'm saying, and
- 41:43Speaker 5: you did whatever you wanted to do.
- 41:44Speaker 1: I remember, like even.
- 41:46Speaker 2: I wasn't playing certain so I remember that there.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 41:49Speaker 5: So I was just like, okay if this because this
- 41:52Speaker 5: was they was like, bro, we gotta have this one
- 41:54Speaker 5: schedule it's got to happen because blah blah blah. So
- 41:57Speaker 5: we kind of just gonna you know, we're gonna script
- 41:59Speaker 5: it is gonna be cool. And I'm like, okay, cool,
- 42:02Speaker 5: but you know, shout out to Swiss for trying to
- 42:06Speaker 5: make it right because after that, he was like, bro,
- 42:08Speaker 5: I understand all of your you know, dah da da da,
- 42:10Speaker 5: but I could tell you this was the great thing
- 42:13Speaker 5: about it is I felt like I lost something and
- 42:17Speaker 5: it made me dangerous, you know what I'm saying. I
- 42:20Speaker 5: was like, Okay, if y'all took that from me, now,
- 42:24Speaker 5: everybody gotta pay for it. You know what I'm saying.
- 42:26Speaker 5: Everybody gotta pay for it, you know what I'm saying.
- 42:29Speaker 5: And it turned me into super DJ, super beats everything,
- 42:32Speaker 5: and I'm like, I'm going to rule the Internet until
- 42:35Speaker 5: this pandemic is over with.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Yo.
- 42:37Speaker 3: There's a specific record I wanted to can you walk
- 42:40Speaker 3: me through? Because you're a DJ for people who are
- 42:44Speaker 3: ignorant at that, but you're a DJ, right yeah? And
- 42:48Speaker 3: I feel like kind of one of those like new
- 42:50Speaker 3: cash money records past kind of like what we consider
- 42:52Speaker 3: the Golden Age was like go DJ, which was very
- 42:55Speaker 3: much like I felt like your brainchild, like, can you
- 42:58Speaker 3: walk me through like how go DJ was was made?
- 43:02Speaker 5: So we were having a meeting because that's Carter Won, right,
- 43:06Speaker 5: and I'm telling Wayne, you know, I'm like, bro, at
- 43:09Speaker 5: this point, cash money is on your back.
- 43:12Speaker 3: Because look five Degrees came out and kind of came
- 43:15Speaker 3: and went yeah.
- 43:16Speaker 5: So I was like, cash money is on your back, bro,
- 43:18Speaker 5: like you know what I'm saying. And I'm just like,
- 43:20Speaker 5: so this one gotta be like it's gotta be the one.
- 43:25Speaker 2: You know.
- 43:25Speaker 5: I'm like, you could stop with the sound effects and
- 43:28Speaker 5: all of that, you know, like you're not you know,
- 43:30Speaker 5: young Wayne no more. You got to step up your game.
- 43:33Speaker 5: And you know, he was just like, Bro, I'm I'm ready.
- 43:35Speaker 5: I'm ready. But he asked because go DJ was actually
- 43:39Speaker 5: a song from this group you in LV, just the.
- 43:42Speaker 3: Part which is the Bounce group whole ship.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:47Speaker 5: Yeah, So he was like, man, is it any way
- 43:50Speaker 5: I could do go dj?
- 43:51Speaker 1: Oh?
- 43:52Speaker 5: So I'm like yeah, and I'm like I actually got
- 43:55Speaker 5: a visual for it. I'm like, this is what we're
- 43:56Speaker 5: gonna do. I'm like, we can send all the radio
- 43:59Speaker 5: DJ like cam carters and let them film them, you know,
- 44:03Speaker 5: doing their whatever they're doing on air and then send
- 44:06Speaker 5: it back to us and we're gonna and we're gonna
- 44:08Speaker 5: edit all of that into into the music video. Right,
- 44:11Speaker 5: So we hadn't recorded the song yet, we talking about it,
- 44:14Speaker 5: so all right. So I get the beat done and
- 44:17Speaker 5: he come in there. He do the hook first, so
- 44:19Speaker 5: I in my mind, I know this song is about
- 44:22Speaker 5: to be about DJ's right, and he do the first
- 44:26Speaker 5: verse and it ain't got ship to do with DJs,
- 44:29Speaker 5: and I'm just like, but fuck, I'm like, it's so
- 44:31Speaker 5: fucking hard.
- 44:32Speaker 1: I'm like, it's so hard. Bro. I'm like, you know what.
- 44:35Speaker 5: I'm just like, bro, what the fuck? Like, you know
- 44:37Speaker 5: what I'm saying? And he was like, yeah, I know, bro,
- 44:39Speaker 5: but this is what I was feeling. And I'm like,
- 44:42Speaker 5: so I'm like, okay, the second verse gotta have a
- 44:44Speaker 5: reference to a DJ.
- 44:45Speaker 1: And he do the second I'm like, you know what
- 44:49Speaker 1: I'm saying.
- 44:50Speaker 5: But by the time he finished the song, the vibe
- 44:54Speaker 5: was so like in there in the studio it was
- 44:57Speaker 5: motherfucker's going. Bro, you heard what he said, you just
- 45:00Speaker 5: here with the fun And I was like, bro, we
- 45:01Speaker 5: just got to leave it alone. I'm like, this one's
- 45:03Speaker 5: gonna be something that the world ain't gonna understand unless
- 45:06Speaker 5: we explain, and nobody said nothing like you know what
- 45:09Speaker 5: I'm saying, Well this she ain't got no references to,
- 45:11Speaker 5: no DJs.
- 45:12Speaker 3: Like it was just a hit. Yeah, No, it's crazy
- 45:15Speaker 3: because it felt like that was kind of like his
- 45:17Speaker 3: I think about like the first song on the Carter
- 45:20Speaker 3: was well, like like Birdman Junior was so hard, like
- 45:23Speaker 3: it felt like he was just on a mission from
- 45:24Speaker 3: the writ to kind of change whatever narrative people had.
- 45:26Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean he stepped into his lyrical shoes on,
- 45:29Speaker 5: you know.
- 45:29Speaker 2: On the first call, like you know, and look, he
- 45:32Speaker 2: been like that long before that. We had like a
- 45:34Speaker 2: little breaks on him in the beginning, like everybody.
- 45:38Speaker 3: Yo, I remember that, Remember that album the Tunnel. You
- 45:40Speaker 3: guys had that record on the Tunnel, the Flex, big
- 45:43Speaker 3: cap Wayne fucking He.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Had a situation when he was younger with you know,
- 45:48Speaker 2: with with with a gun and stuff like that. So
- 45:51Speaker 2: you know, his moms ain't really want him, ain't want
- 45:53Speaker 2: him saying no cursion, she ain't want him around, none
- 45:56Speaker 2: of that type of stuff. So you know, we were
- 45:59Speaker 2: told were giving straight directions, ain't gonna be rapping cursing,
- 46:04Speaker 2: doing them gangs and stuff, none of that. So we
- 46:06Speaker 2: had to figure out how to do stuff with him.
- 46:09Speaker 2: And every time he rapped, he can curse. Wow, So
- 46:14Speaker 2: we was toning him down on a lot. I always
- 46:15Speaker 2: tell people that I'm like, I remember back in the day,
- 46:18Speaker 2: we was going through interviews and I'm telling people.
- 46:20Speaker 4: Way in the future. We used to always say that
- 46:22Speaker 4: in the future.
- 46:23Speaker 2: They're looking at us like for real, Like I'm like, listen, bro,
- 46:28Speaker 2: y'all don't trust me. If y'all hear, we hear the
- 46:32Speaker 2: stuff that he ain't even allowed to say. He had
- 46:34Speaker 2: all kind of versions that we couldn't put out. They're like, man,
- 46:37Speaker 2: you can't say that. He can't say that.
- 46:39Speaker 1: Bro, you listen.
- 46:40Speaker 5: And a lot of people never even really paid attention
- 46:43Speaker 5: to it. But on none of them songs he cursed.
- 46:45Speaker 2: He's not cursing.
- 46:46Speaker 1: He never cursed on none of.
- 46:48Speaker 3: Those wow, because I never even noticed that as much
- 46:49Speaker 3: as I and all that stuff that's crazy.
- 46:52Speaker 4: Or the moment he could curse.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Yeah, he was outside like he broke the chain who
- 46:58Speaker 2: with the cutting up.
- 46:59Speaker 3: You had such great chemistry with other artists outside of
- 47:02Speaker 3: the cash money world, like t I or GZ like,
- 47:05Speaker 3: who's your favorite artist that you've worked with outside of
- 47:08Speaker 3: the Cash Money roster over the years.
- 47:10Speaker 5: Oh shit, it's not even a rapper, would be Tina Marie.
- 47:15Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying. Oh, I got a chance
- 47:17Speaker 5: to do Tina Marie. And you know, that's one when
- 47:19Speaker 5: your parents called. My dad called me and it was like,
- 47:21Speaker 5: you're fucking doing the song with Tina Marie. Yeah, you know,
- 47:24Speaker 5: because that was big to New Orleans. Tina Marie was
- 47:27Speaker 5: so big, huge, huge to us in New Orleans, Like
- 47:30Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying, Like an icon, Frankie Beverley,
- 47:34Speaker 5: Tina Marie.
- 47:35Speaker 3: That's how your parents could be like yeah, shit.
- 47:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 47:40Speaker 5: And to know that that was a gold record for her,
- 47:43Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. And because when I did
- 47:46Speaker 5: the song, she was just like, well I just want
- 47:48Speaker 5: something like she was like, you know, like that song
- 47:50Speaker 5: still fly that you gotta you know or something, And
- 47:53Speaker 5: I was like, no, miss miss Tina Marie, we not
- 47:55Speaker 5: doing that.
- 47:55Speaker 1: I'm like, we're gonna.
- 47:56Speaker 5: Get a real bass player and we're gonna do something
- 47:58Speaker 5: real simple and we you know, and and I'm glad
- 48:02Speaker 5: she she accepted you know because it's Tina Marie for sure,
- 48:05Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying, And I'm geeked out, Like
- 48:07Speaker 5: every time I'm doing it, I'm stopping and I'm like,
- 48:09Speaker 5: I can't believe this team.
- 48:13Speaker 4: Yo.
- 48:13Speaker 3: So a new Snoop and Dre album has been announced?
- 48:17Speaker 3: Can we get a new Juvian Manny Fresh?
- 48:21Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 48:21Speaker 3: I feel like I feel like, man, all the artists
- 48:23Speaker 3: I grew up listen to for whatever reason, they end
- 48:25Speaker 3: up just stop making music together, but they'll still do shows.
- 48:28Speaker 5: Like we need a new album. Were working on it, bro.
- 48:31Speaker 5: You know what's the hardest thing. You know, we were
- 48:32Speaker 5: just talking about this. You you want to evolve. You
- 48:35Speaker 5: want to you know you you want to turn into
- 48:37Speaker 5: something that you know, like, damn, this is my sound,
- 48:41Speaker 5: but I hear it so much. I want to do
- 48:43Speaker 5: something new, but there is nothing new for us. It's
- 48:47Speaker 5: just really staying on your sound, you know what I'm saying.
- 48:51Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, it's hard because you guys have evolved this, yes, yeah.
- 48:54Speaker 1: And that's a hard thing to do.
- 48:56Speaker 5: So it's one of them things that we learning how
- 48:58Speaker 5: to do, to step back to say like, you know what,
- 49:00Speaker 5: we don't really have to sound like what this what
- 49:03Speaker 5: what what you know what hip hop is and and
- 49:05Speaker 5: and that's that's it's nothing disrespectful to the new generation.
- 49:10Speaker 5: But we're not the new generation. We are who we are.
- 49:13Speaker 5: But because we are older, you know what I'm saying,
- 49:16Speaker 5: And it's like going like, man, do I want to
- 49:18Speaker 5: do that again?
- 49:19Speaker 1: Or do I want to leave that?
- 49:20Speaker 2: Please?
- 49:21Speaker 1: Do see what I'm saying.
- 49:22Speaker 5: So, so that's the it was researching, and I think
- 49:25Speaker 5: being the DJ has showed me that, like to say, like, hey, bro,
- 49:29Speaker 5: you ain't got to go find no new sun.
- 49:31Speaker 3: Back that e still going up in the club right now.
- 49:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:34Speaker 3: No, It's it's interesting because it's like you'll see artists
- 49:38Speaker 3: that you you know, love growing up and then they'll
- 49:40Speaker 3: try to chase whatever the young kids are exactly and
- 49:44Speaker 3: you'd be like.
- 49:45Speaker 1: Man, if you just if you would have just stayed
- 49:47Speaker 1: in your lane, did it?
- 49:48Speaker 5: Like you know what I'm saying, how you you know,
- 49:50Speaker 5: plug up that old drum machine? Yeah, you know what
- 49:53Speaker 5: I'm saying. You ain't got to do it on able
- 49:54Speaker 5: to you know how I know how to write.
- 49:57Speaker 2: You can be real innovative without without out doing what
- 50:01Speaker 2: everybody else doing.
- 50:01Speaker 3: You don't have to be the fun because you guys
- 50:03Speaker 3: got your fans, and you guys, do your fans want
- 50:05Speaker 3: to hear them?
- 50:06Speaker 5: We got a lot of songs that was just eight sounds,
- 50:08Speaker 5: you know, a lot of them was done just on
- 50:10Speaker 5: the SP twelve.
- 50:11Speaker 2: I personally like songs that don't have a lot of
- 50:14Speaker 2: extra shit.
- 50:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I was done on it.
- 50:16Speaker 2: It gives me to talk my talk.
- 50:19Speaker 1: I was done on the Wow the whole song, Yo,
- 50:24Speaker 1: what where'd you get the so? What was? What was
- 50:27Speaker 1: bling bling made on same thing? SB twelve hundred.
- 50:30Speaker 3: What's that like? That sound and bling bling? That real distinct?
- 50:34Speaker 3: It almost it sounds it almost sounds like you know
- 50:38Speaker 3: the sound I'm talking about that's throughout the whole beat?
- 50:40Speaker 1: Oh, the little the Planet rockall thing.
- 50:42Speaker 5: Yeah, that was just like a like the little clip,
- 50:45Speaker 5: the little clip sound like that was from Planet Rock,
- 50:47Speaker 5: Like you know what I'm saying.
- 50:48Speaker 1: And I just kind of pitched it down.
- 50:51Speaker 3: You know, did you guys have any idea Bling Bling
- 50:54Speaker 3: obviously is one of the most important songs to your
- 50:57Speaker 3: to your guys story.
- 50:59Speaker 2: It is because it winded up being a word, right,
- 51:01Speaker 2: you know how her song you could hear something and
- 51:05Speaker 2: you know something special about that word.
- 51:07Speaker 5: You know, we had a song and Wayne said, tell
- 51:10Speaker 5: me what kind of nigga got damage that of bling blind? Yeah,
- 51:14Speaker 5: And I was like it was something about that right there.
- 51:17Speaker 5: So I remember, like I was, I wrote the hook
- 51:22Speaker 5: in my head, so you know how you gotta hurry
- 51:24Speaker 5: up and get get to the studio.
- 51:26Speaker 1: You know.
- 51:26Speaker 5: I'm like, I gotta hurry up and record this before
- 51:29Speaker 5: I forget it, you know what I'm saying. And I
- 51:31Speaker 5: had done the dummy before they got there. I just
- 51:33Speaker 5: done the dummy like bling bling every time I come
- 51:36Speaker 5: around the city.
- 51:36Speaker 1: And Wayne went right behind me and was like, nah,
- 51:38Speaker 1: I got it. Let me do the hook.
- 51:39Speaker 5: So it was a lot of shit that Wayne you
- 51:42Speaker 5: down first, Yeah, yeah, because because I mean I always, yeah,
- 51:46Speaker 5: I would put the hook down with because I knew
- 51:48Speaker 5: what to beat how I wanted to beat the sound
- 51:50Speaker 5: with the hook, Like you know what I'm saying. I'm like, listen,
- 51:53Speaker 5: I want to you know. I'm like, I'm a lady
- 51:55Speaker 5: hooking and whoever do it? You know what I'm saying.
- 51:57Speaker 5: And the crazy thing was, originally it was a big
- 52:01Speaker 5: time or song. It was a big time song. It
- 52:06Speaker 5: was a big time and what happened was because we
- 52:09Speaker 5: had so many songs. We was we was next all
- 52:12Speaker 5: like next up was BG.
- 52:15Speaker 2: And he said BG album needed was like I'm listening
- 52:18Speaker 2: to the album he needed a.
- 52:19Speaker 5: Song like that, Like I'm like, it needs this because
- 52:21Speaker 5: his album was you know he the hood Dude out
- 52:24Speaker 5: the Crew.
- 52:25Speaker 3: I mean there's two. I mean, I think when I
- 52:27Speaker 3: think of that album, I think of that and I
- 52:28Speaker 3: think cash Money is an army.
- 52:31Speaker 2: Cash Money's arm is a gangster the song, right, like,
- 52:34Speaker 2: that's who That's who he is. He he always had
- 52:37Speaker 2: been the gang style to click right, that's that's his personality, right.
- 52:42Speaker 2: So you know that's what I liked about Manny Man.
- 52:45Speaker 2: He always created a different sound for each one of us.
- 52:48Speaker 2: And you listen to our albums, you would see the difference.
- 52:52Speaker 2: You're like, damn, you know what. It's four different artists,
- 52:55Speaker 2: but the music ain't the same. Because he had a
- 52:58Speaker 2: thing with Bjna have this sound. You were gonna have
- 53:01Speaker 2: this sound, Wayne, soone's got to be like it worked.
- 53:03Speaker 3: Turns on the architect, Manny Fresh. I also feel I
- 53:09Speaker 3: feel like you were one of the first like producers
- 53:10Speaker 3: that really coined like talking your ship before the song
- 53:13Speaker 3: would start. Oh yeah, I mean yeah, because like after
- 53:16Speaker 3: you like Swiss Swiss came along and then like Jazzy Fay.
- 53:19Speaker 3: But I feel like you were like like you were
- 53:22Speaker 3: gonna get your ship off before.
- 53:23Speaker 1: The song started. I mean, the intro started becoming a
- 53:25Speaker 1: big thing. You know.
- 53:26Speaker 5: People were like, man, I can't wait just to hear
- 53:29Speaker 5: Manny Fresh intro, like you know what I'm saying, to
- 53:31Speaker 5: see what the hell he gonna say on there, you know,
- 53:34Speaker 5: And it was always something that was kind of seventies musical,
- 53:38Speaker 5: like you know what I'm saying and what I had
- 53:41Speaker 5: learned like from and I told him this recently. My
- 53:46Speaker 5: dad was just like, listen, dude, start putting yourself first
- 53:49Speaker 5: on a lot of these songs.
- 53:51Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, and you know.
- 53:52Speaker 5: And I was like, well, well, you know, why would
- 53:55Speaker 5: you you know, he was like because he was like,
- 53:57Speaker 5: you know the dude who first, Because my dad was
- 54:00Speaker 5: the DJ before I was a DJ.
- 54:01Speaker 4: That's the one.
- 54:02Speaker 5: He was like, That's the one who they're gonna hear
- 54:04Speaker 5: on the song no matter what, no matter what, you
- 54:06Speaker 5: know what I'm saying.
- 54:07Speaker 1: So me and him always make sure that you know
- 54:10Speaker 1: what I'm saying.
- 54:11Speaker 3: Voice was first, I told him.
- 54:13Speaker 4: I told him oh you knew.
- 54:16Speaker 1: You know.
- 54:21Speaker 3: That's so funny, man.
- 54:22Speaker 4: Like say the best for the last they got even
- 54:24Speaker 4: hit the last one?
- 54:25Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, bling Blink's one of the greatest posse records
- 54:28Speaker 3: of all time. Yeah, obviously it's now in the dictionary, y'all. Really,
- 54:32Speaker 3: I mean, do you guys? I feel like that should
- 54:34Speaker 3: have been trademarked.
- 54:35Speaker 5: I think it is trademarked. I think it is. You
- 54:38Speaker 5: know what, But that's one of those things babying slipped.
- 54:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that wasn't That wasn't a juvie thing right there? Yeah,
- 54:43Speaker 2: there it is.
- 54:44Speaker 1: Man.
- 54:44Speaker 3: We'll look you guys. You guys are how many how
- 54:46Speaker 3: many dates stuffs on the tour ship?
- 54:48Speaker 2: We stop on the thirty first of December New Years
- 54:52Speaker 2: the last day?
- 54:53Speaker 3: Wow, so that's a lot more. I just saw you
- 54:55Speaker 3: pop out of the Russell's house too.
- 54:56Speaker 2: Yeah, man, that's I gotta take my dog back to
- 55:00Speaker 2: you got to go to l Russell back.
- 55:01Speaker 3: It's crazy. I went.
- 55:02Speaker 2: And it's like the whole experience with his mom too.
- 55:05Speaker 3: Man's barbecuing.
- 55:08Speaker 2: He barbecueing it out of space walking in the y'all
- 55:10Speaker 2: for the kids. I'm telling you, if you never had
- 55:14Speaker 2: an experience like that, they got to check it out,
- 55:16Speaker 2: and man, they got that dude with Larrussell.
- 55:18Speaker 4: He's different.
- 55:18Speaker 3: Is there any besides Russell? Is there any young artists
- 55:20Speaker 3: you guys are just fans of.
- 55:22Speaker 4: It's a lot of them, you know.
- 55:23Speaker 2: I like I like uh uh uh, I like Gorilla,
- 55:28Speaker 2: I like uh Sexy Red, you know who else? Sauce
- 55:35Speaker 2: Walker Crazy, It's a lot of It's a lot of artists. Man,
- 55:38Speaker 2: it's a lot of artists out that I like.
- 55:39Speaker 3: And I have respect for anybody you want to produce
- 55:41Speaker 3: for many.
- 55:42Speaker 1: Anybody, if you if you if you take this serious.
- 55:45Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 55:46Speaker 5: Yeah, Because sometimes I hear interviews and the most upsetting
- 55:50Speaker 5: thing to me is, you know, you got some people
- 55:52Speaker 5: who say I don't really do this, this is not
- 55:54Speaker 5: what I really do, and I'm just feeling I don't
- 55:58Speaker 5: really wrap, you know what I'm saying, And I'm just like, well,
- 56:01Speaker 5: give it to somebody who really want to do it. Yeah,
- 56:03Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. And I'm like, you really
- 56:05Speaker 5: do rap? You just think it's cool to say that you.
- 56:07Speaker 3: Don't, Yeah, to say that you're nowana bad?
- 56:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 56:11Speaker 5: And I just won't give me a real artist like
- 56:14Speaker 5: you know, with somebody who really takes.
- 56:15Speaker 2: This, I can't say that. Yeah, I ain't really no rapper.
- 56:19Speaker 1: That is crazy.

- 57:50Speaker 5: doing on it?
- 57:51Speaker 1: You know what? It makes the song like damn? You know?
- 57:54Speaker 5: And I know right now that might go, but that's
