Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to episode 56 of Revelio for October 29th, 2026.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I'm Aimee. And I'm Nicole.
- 0:33Speaker 1: And in this episode, we wanted to stick with the
- 0:37Speaker 1: spooky theme. And we will be discussing ghost stories that
- 0:42Speaker 1: have ties to different Harry Potter filming locations.
- 0:46Speaker 2: But first... You're listening to WWN, the Wizarding Wireless Network.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Now for the latest headlines.
- 0:59Speaker 2: So pretty slow news week.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I think we're probably going to have a few slow
- 1:04Speaker 1: news weeks here before things really start to ramp up
- 1:07Speaker 1: with the show.
- 1:09Speaker 2: But speaking of the show, there.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Was a recent interview that actor Rafe Spall did with Deadline,
- 1:16Speaker 1: and it was mainly to discuss his role as Sherlock
- 1:19Speaker 1: Holmes in another project that he's doing. But in this interview,
- 1:23Speaker 1: some things came up about his upcoming role as Arthur Weasley.
- 1:27Speaker 2: And, of course, the HBO series upcoming.
- 1:30Speaker 1: And in this interview also kind of learned and confirmed
- 1:33Speaker 1: that the Gilderoy Lockhart book signing scene at Flourish and Blotts,
- 1:38Speaker 1: which obviously happens in Chamber of Secrets, has already been filmed.
- 1:41Speaker 2: So it seems like filming's already pretty much underway, and
- 1:45Speaker 2: that's really exciting.
- 1:47Speaker 1: So Deadline asked Rafe if he was nervous about Harry
- 1:52Speaker 1: Potter and being in Harry Potter. Mentioning that the sets,
- 1:56Speaker 1: you know, look amazing and spalls that I've never seen
- 2:00Speaker 1: production values like it.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I've been lucky enough to do things.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Such as Prometheus and Jurassic World, big franchise projects, but
- 2:07Speaker 1: I've never seen sets like these. Kate Hall, who does
- 2:10Speaker 1: the hair and makeup and.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Worked on The Crown, is extraordinary.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Holly Waddington, who won an Oscar for Poor Things, is
- 2:16Speaker 1: doing the costumes. I've never come out of costume fittings
- 2:19Speaker 1: feeling so excited. I was around True Genius, a costume
- 2:23Speaker 1: designer who just blows my mind.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Ooh, that's nice to hear.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Yeah, that is why I thought this interview was really interesting.
- 2:30Speaker 1: There's some pretty cool tidbits he throws in here. So
- 2:33Speaker 1: he ultimately goes.
- 2:34Speaker 2: On to say, like, I'm not nervous about it. I'm
- 2:36Speaker 2: just really enjoying it.
- 2:38Speaker 1: It's funny that my dad played Ron's rat and now
- 2:41Speaker 1: I'm playing Arthur Weasley. He says the other day I
- 2:44Speaker 1: was on set and Ron's rat was there. I took
- 2:47Speaker 1: a photograph next to it. If I had social media,
- 2:50Speaker 1: I would post it.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Just me and dad.
- 2:53Speaker 1: And that's how I picture like just peace sign. I
- 2:58Speaker 1: hope he sent it right to his dad and like
- 3:01Speaker 1: look at our family photo.
- 3:03Speaker 2: So I thought that, you know, it was really, it
- 3:05Speaker 2: was really interesting.
- 3:08Speaker 1: So him bringing up social media did segue Deadline into
- 3:12Speaker 1: asking about if he worries about the social media reaction,
- 3:16Speaker 1: him doing Harry Potter obviously brings up the controversy surrounding J.K.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Rowling and asking him about that.
- 3:23Speaker 1: He says, I'm mercifully not on any form of social media,
- 3:26Speaker 1: and I don't feel I have anything further to contribute
- 3:29Speaker 1: to that debate. I'm just feeling really lucky to be
- 3:32Speaker 1: part of something full of amazingly creative, brilliant people all working.
- 3:36Speaker 2: At the top of their game. There are fabulous actors involved.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Katherine Parkinson and I played the Weasley parents, and to
- 3:42Speaker 1: my mind, she's one of the best actors in the world.
- 3:44Speaker 2: She's phenomenal. The other day, it was me, her, Kit Harington,
- 3:47Speaker 2: and Johnny Flynn. It was just fun.
- 3:50Speaker 1: So I think that there is like giving us a
- 3:51Speaker 1: suggestion of like that scene being, being filmed.
- 3:56Speaker 3: That's cool.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Still get so excited. I can't Herrington.
- 3:59Speaker 3: I like forgot about it.
- 4:01Speaker 2: For a second until I like read this interview and
- 4:03Speaker 2: I was like, Oh my God. Yes.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:06Speaker 1: So just a few little, that was kind of all
- 4:07Speaker 1: that Harry Potter really kind of came up in that interview.
- 4:09Speaker 2: But I thought what he said was, was interesting.
- 4:12Speaker 3: That's good stuff. Like he said, like, you know, he's
- 4:15Speaker 3: been in some pretty impressive projects and for this, to
- 4:19Speaker 3: be up there that, that makes me feel really good
- 4:23Speaker 3: going into this.
- 4:24Speaker 2: I know.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I really loved the little notes about the production and
- 4:28Speaker 1: just everyone working on, on this.
- 4:30Speaker 2: So, um, yeah.
- 4:32Speaker 1: And then last episode, we had talked about how Wizards
- 4:36Speaker 1: of Baking season three is premiering on Wednesday, November 4th
- 4:41Speaker 1: at eight, seven central on food network and HBO. Um, And,
- 4:45Speaker 1: but the, after that, the official trailer for the season
- 4:49Speaker 1: did drop online.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I saw it on the Food Network Instagram page. And
- 4:53Speaker 2: then also in the caption, learn that there's going.
- 4:55Speaker 1: To be two new judges this year. So I don't
- 4:58Speaker 1: know if that's in addition.
- 5:00Speaker 2: To the two judges we've had previously. Or was there, no,
- 5:05Speaker 2: there was just the two.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Or if there'll be two just new ones and we've
- 5:11Speaker 1: are going to have new judges this year.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Guess we'll find out on November 4th. Yeah.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 5:18Speaker 1: And then there's just a little bit of gaming news
- 5:21Speaker 1: as well. So the Lego Harry Potter collection is now
- 5:24Speaker 1: available on Nintendo Switch 2.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I feel like we talked about it coming.
- 5:29Speaker 1: To the Switch 2 in a previous episode, but it's
- 5:33Speaker 1: available now. And then also, we haven't talked about Harry
- 5:37Speaker 1: Potter puzzles and spells in a while, but they have for,
- 5:41Speaker 1: through Halloween, they're running a special, like, Marauder's Map event.
- 5:46Speaker 1: If you play puzzles and spells, and it's basically, like,
- 5:50Speaker 1: going through and, like, figuring out footsteps and stuff in
- 5:54Speaker 1: the Marauder's Map, and then if you complete it, you
- 5:56Speaker 1: get a Marauder's Map, like, thing.
- 6:01Speaker 2: For your avatar or something like that.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I haven't played puzzles in a very long time, so
- 6:05Speaker 1: I'm not up on my lingo for the game. Um,
- 6:09Speaker 1: but this is usually around Halloween every year. They will
- 6:11Speaker 1: do a special kind of like campaign or event.
- 6:14Speaker 2: In this year. It's around the marauders map. That's cool.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:20Speaker 2: That's kind of it. Yeah. For the news.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Little lull. I feel like things will pick up probably
- 6:27Speaker 3: next month.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Yes.

- 6:55Speaker 3: today's main discussion, we are continuing spooky season with some
- 6:59Speaker 3: ghost stories tied to Harry Potter filming locations. There's a lot.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Well, because it's a blend.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Yes, and Scotland.
- 7:08Speaker 2: And Scotland, yes.
- 7:10Speaker 3: As I texted Nicole when I was putting this together,
- 7:12Speaker 3: I knew the Scots wouldn't let me down. No. So many.
- 7:16Speaker 1: When I lived there, I did some ghost walking tours
- 7:19Speaker 1: of Edinburgh.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Very spooky place.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 3: So many that I had to kind of narrow it
- 7:25Speaker 3: down and not do every story that was connected to
- 7:29Speaker 3: every location because it's just too much. But, um, so
- 7:33Speaker 3: we're going to start with King's cross station, um, which
- 7:37Speaker 3: you wouldn't really think would be one of those hotspots.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Like you think of the castles, right? But King's cross
- 7:44Speaker 3: on a whim, I was like, I'm going to search
- 7:45Speaker 3: this and find out. And there's a lot, um, So
- 7:51Speaker 3: there's several ghost stories associated with Kings Cross Station. Most
- 7:55Speaker 3: of them stem from a disastrous fire that happened in 1987.
- 8:01Speaker 3: So this fire was started by a discarded cigarette smoldering
- 8:06Speaker 3: on a wooden escalator before the escalators got updated, I'm assuming.
- 8:11Speaker 3: And it very quickly spread. It killed 31 people in
- 8:15Speaker 3: the station and Um, there have been a lot of
- 8:20Speaker 3: reports after that fire of like people who are there
- 8:24Speaker 3: one minute and gone the next, which if you think
- 8:27Speaker 3: about crowds of people on a station platform, that's something
- 8:34Speaker 3: that I feel like would be, you know, your, your
- 8:38Speaker 3: typical sighting of like somebody's in a crowd and then
- 8:42Speaker 3: someone goes in front of them and they are no
- 8:44Speaker 3: longer there. So that's a lot of the descriptions. Um,
- 8:49Speaker 3: surroundings sightings at King's Cross. One that I found several
- 8:55Speaker 3: mentions of online is a young woman who's wearing kind
- 9:00Speaker 3: of outdated clothing that looks like it's from the 80s.
- 9:05Speaker 3: She's crying and screaming and reaching out for help. But
- 9:10Speaker 3: whenever passengers or staff like move towards her to go
- 9:13Speaker 3: and see what's wrong, she vanishes. And from my online research,
- 9:20Speaker 3: it looks like mentions of her date back to the 1990s.
- 9:23Speaker 3: And since that fire happened in 87, that's the reason
- 9:29Speaker 3: why many believe she's associated with that fire. That and
- 9:34Speaker 3: her clothing fits the decade.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Not very often you find, like, an 80s-inspired ghost.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Yeah, right.
- 9:43Speaker 2: They're usually always, like, from the... From the past.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Right. Another King's Cross apparition regular is a man who
- 9:53Speaker 3: is often seen waiting by the tracks and moving to
- 9:56Speaker 3: get on the train with other passengers, but he never
- 9:59Speaker 3: makes it on the train or any other stops before
- 10:02Speaker 3: vanishing so people always see him kind of like alighting
- 10:06Speaker 3: onto the train but then he's not there and he's
- 10:08Speaker 3: not sitting anywhere he's not like yeah.
- 10:11Speaker 2: He's just gone um he's gone but he's there yes.
- 10:18Speaker 3: And this is a weird one I had to include
- 10:20Speaker 3: because I just thought it was very bizarre. Um, this
- 10:23Speaker 3: is an old urban legend that the Celtic queen, I'm
- 10:28Speaker 3: going to say it wrong. Boudica maybe is buried under
- 10:35Speaker 3: King's cross station somewhere around platforms eight to 10 sound familiar. Um,
- 10:43Speaker 3: Historians have debunked this, saying there's no actual evidence of
- 10:48Speaker 3: this at all, but the rumor took hold sometime after
- 10:51Speaker 3: the Second World War and has become part of like
- 10:54Speaker 3: the paranormal lore surrounding King's Cross Station, with some claiming
- 11:00Speaker 3: they've seen her there at night or that her ghost
- 11:02Speaker 3: roams the tunnels of the underground.
- 11:06Speaker 1: That's really interesting because like typically, like when you think
- 11:09Speaker 1: of haunted buildings, you think of like really old, like,
- 11:14Speaker 1: gothic-y kind of things, and King's Cross Station is not that. Like,
- 11:17Speaker 1: King's Cross Station is, I have taken many a train
- 11:20Speaker 1: out of King's Cross Station.
- 11:22Speaker 2: It is, at this point, it is pretty modern. I mean,
- 11:26Speaker 2: there's a.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Reason why they filmed, they used St. Pancras, which is
- 11:30Speaker 1: across the street from King's Cross, as the exterior of
- 11:33Speaker 1: King's Cross, because actual King's.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Cross Station is not glamorous. Like it is in the movies.
- 11:39Speaker 1: So I would have expected that, like that, because I
- 11:43Speaker 1: think actually that's a hotel, the outside that they filmed.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I would, well, that probably has maybe, maybe it's on
- 11:48Speaker 1: the list here.
- 11:49Speaker 2: That might also have its own ghost stories.
- 11:50Speaker 1: But yeah, but also I never, I never knew about
- 11:55Speaker 1: the fire at King's Cross. So that might also be
- 11:57Speaker 1: why it's also so modern in the way that it
- 12:00Speaker 1: is now because it had to be like restored.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:04Speaker 3: And one that I didn't include because there weren't a
- 12:06Speaker 3: lot of specifics, but I do think this is kind
- 12:08Speaker 3: of interesting. I'm going to get this wrong. Is it
- 12:13Speaker 3: Transport for London that's the government transportation agency that oversees
- 12:19Speaker 3: the Underground?
- 12:22Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure that's what you said. We're American. Yeah,
- 12:25Speaker 2: but I literally looked there. Yeah, I think it's Transport
- 12:29Speaker 2: for London. That makes sense.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Okay.
- 12:31Speaker 3: If that's wrong, I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure it's
- 12:33Speaker 3: Transport for London. They actually... Somebody FOIL requested any of
- 12:43Speaker 3: their records that mention ghost sightings or paranormal activity. And
- 12:50Speaker 3: there actually is one government record of a teenage boy
- 12:56Speaker 3: saying that he's seen ghosts at King's Cross.
- 12:59Speaker 2: So... Interesting.
- 13:01Speaker 3: No specifics of what he saw, but I just thought
- 13:02Speaker 3: that was kind of interesting that that's actually in government record.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:07Speaker 3: And that's the only one as far as I can tell,
- 13:09Speaker 3: but kind of cool.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Um, I never saw any ghosts at King's cross. Bummer.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Yeah. Right. That would have been cool. Um, so then
- 13:21Speaker 3: also in London is the London zoo. There, there's some
- 13:25Speaker 3: cool stories around this too, which I didn't expect. Um,
- 13:29Speaker 3: There's a few stories surrounding lions specifically. And the first
- 13:35Speaker 3: has to do with a sighting back in the 1930s.
- 13:39Speaker 3: So a zookeeper and his granddaughter were walking through Regents Park,
- 13:43Speaker 3: which borders the zoo, and they spotted a glowing lion
- 13:49Speaker 3: apparition is how they described it. That lion very quickly
- 13:53Speaker 3: vanished as they approached. And the zookeeper would later discover
- 13:58Speaker 3: that one of the lions in the pride at the
- 14:00Speaker 3: zoo had died of an illness at the exact time
- 14:04Speaker 3: he and his granddaughter were taking that walk. So that
- 14:11Speaker 3: apparition has become known as the glowing lion of Regent Park.
- 14:16Speaker 3: And it has its own little legend. The second lion
- 14:22Speaker 3: story is, has to do with the old Lion House,
- 14:25Speaker 3: which opened in 1935. The historic structure closed in 1975,
- 14:31Speaker 3: and the lions were moved to a new home, with
- 14:34Speaker 3: the old Lion House being knocked down a year later.
- 14:37Speaker 3: But to this day, zoo guests and staff have reported
- 14:41Speaker 3: hearing lion roars in the area of the old Lion House,
- 14:45Speaker 3: and some have even reported seeing lion faces or outlines
- 14:49Speaker 3: in the windows of some of the zoo's vacant buildings.
- 14:54Speaker 3: So maybe the lions are trying to find their old
- 14:57Speaker 3: home and like go back to it. And they're like,
- 15:00Speaker 3: what'd you do? Where is it? Lion ghosts. Who knew?
- 15:05Speaker 2: Something about those English lions.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Okay. And now we kind of had into our castle bit,
- 15:15Speaker 3: which is the more expected section, I feel like. So
- 15:19Speaker 3: first up we have Alnwick Castle, which is, obviously served
- 15:24Speaker 3: as Hogwarts exterior and that famous flying lesson lawn that
- 15:28Speaker 3: we see in movie one. And Alnwick Castle is host
- 15:33Speaker 3: of a vampire legend, which originates in the 12th century
- 15:39Speaker 3: after a chronicler named William Day Newburgh wrote about this
- 15:44Speaker 3: particular incident. And according to the legend, a past lord
- 15:49Speaker 3: of Alnwick Castle was convinced his wife was cheating on him,
- 15:52Speaker 3: And in a scheme to catch her in the act,
- 15:54Speaker 3: he scaled the side of the tower leading to her
- 15:56Speaker 3: chambers with the goal of looking through the windows. Very ill-advised.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Because he fell to his death. And the funeral was held.
- 16:06Speaker 3: And he was buried. But in the time afterwards, a
- 16:10Speaker 3: suspicious plague befell the village and livestock were also killed.
- 16:15Speaker 3: And the villagers suspected a vampire was among them. feeding
- 16:20Speaker 3: off of livestock and humans and spreading disease you know
- 16:25Speaker 3: logical conclusion uh locals went to the lord's resting place
- 16:30Speaker 3: and found that the burial shroud was torn to bits
- 16:34Speaker 3: and the corpse was engorged and this is disgusting but
- 16:38Speaker 3: apparently according to this story they hit it with a
- 16:41Speaker 3: spade and fresh blood oozed out which convinced them that
- 16:45Speaker 3: he had been feeding and sucking blood to have such
- 16:48Speaker 3: a fresh.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Supply I mean, I can see how they reached that conclusion.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Yes.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Ew. Another tale associated with Alnwick Castle is that of
- 17:06Speaker 3: its very own Grey Lady. There's a couple Grey Ladies
- 17:12Speaker 3: that I found. So this one, in life, is said
- 17:17Speaker 3: to have been a maid of the residence's. who accidentally
- 17:20Speaker 3: fell down a chute to the tunnels below the castle
- 17:23Speaker 3: while she was working in the kitchens. And as if
- 17:26Speaker 3: that fall wasn't enough, supposedly the dumbwaiter broke and fell
- 17:30Speaker 3: on top of her, which crushed her, ultimately, leading to
- 17:33Speaker 3: her death. To this day, visitors occasionally report seeing a
- 17:37Speaker 3: young woman in Victorian dress roaming the underground passages. She's
- 17:42Speaker 3: sometimes spotted in the chapel as well. Other origin stories
- 17:46Speaker 3: place the Grey Lady not as a maid, but as
- 17:50Speaker 3: the wife of one of the lords. So there's kind of,
- 17:54Speaker 3: you know, unsure origin here. Um, but either way, she
- 17:59Speaker 3: does like to make appearances now and then, apparently. Some
- 18:04Speaker 3: visitors to Anwick have also reported seeing a phantom soldier
- 18:08Speaker 3: marching on the lawn, still guarding the castle as well. Um,
- 18:13Speaker 3: So those are a few of like the regulars.
- 18:16Speaker 2: I've been there and I haven't seen them either.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Oh, I suppose that's probably a good thing. I don't
- 18:26Speaker 3: know if I would want to see them. I think
- 18:28Speaker 3: that would freak me out.
- 18:29Speaker 1: As long as it wasn't like, it's funny because like
- 18:32Speaker 1: when I lived in Edinburgh, I lived in a very old,
- 18:36Speaker 1: like 400, 500 year old building right next to Edinburgh castle. Um,
- 18:42Speaker 1: And I used to kind of be a little nervous
- 18:43Speaker 1: of this. Like if, if, if a residence is going
- 18:48Speaker 1: to be haunted, it surely is going to be this one.
- 18:50Speaker 2: And I was like, you know, but nothing ever, whatever happened.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Right. I could be okay with like, if I was
- 18:55Speaker 1: just visiting like all night, all night castle for like
- 18:58Speaker 1: the day. Yeah.
- 18:59Speaker 2: And like just seeing something to be like, well, I
- 19:00Speaker 2: don't live here. Right. Leaving. And as long as you
- 19:04Speaker 2: don't follow.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Me home, I can sleep soundly tonight.
- 19:07Speaker 2: I can sleep soundly and say, this is really cool.
- 19:09Speaker 2: I saw a ghost. Um, Yeah, I did not see
- 19:13Speaker 2: any ghosts when I visited there. Sadly, I guess.
- 19:20Speaker 3: So Gloucester Cathedral, which served as a lot of Hogwarts
- 19:24Speaker 3: corridors in the films. So during the siege of Gloucester
- 19:29Speaker 3: in 1643, the cathedral was used as a lookout in
- 19:33Speaker 3: a military garrison. Visitors have reported encountering cold spots and
- 19:39Speaker 3: heavy air in the tower that many attribute to the
- 19:42Speaker 3: lingering paranormal presence of soldiers continuing to keep lookout. Also
- 19:48Speaker 3: at Gloucester Cathedral, it was built in the year 1089,
- 19:52Speaker 3: and during its construction, as the story goes, a 14-year-old
- 20:00Speaker 3: apprentice fell to his death from the scaffolding. His spirit
- 20:05Speaker 3: remained around the building site, and eventually they actually had
- 20:08Speaker 3: to hold an exorcism Um, and they put his spirit
- 20:13Speaker 3: inside a leather bottle and buried it in one of
- 20:16Speaker 3: the cathedral's pillars. Don't know what he was doing to, um,
- 20:22Speaker 3: get them to be like, wow, we got to get
- 20:23Speaker 3: rid of this ghost. But as a 14 year old,
- 20:26Speaker 3: I can imagine.
- 20:26Speaker 2: 14 year old, yeah.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Like for being perpetually a 14 year old, um, boy.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I could see how you could get off to some mischief.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Being like, wow, now I can haunt people. This is awesome.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Right?
- 20:40Speaker 1: Like, unfortunately, my life has cut tragically short, but it's
- 20:44Speaker 1: this perk.
- 20:48Speaker 2: And this is why.
- 20:50Speaker 1: We don't hire underage workers to do this.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Kind of work.
- 20:56Speaker 3: This is why, specifically? So they don't haunt you?
- 20:58Speaker 2: Yeah. I always think about that.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Like, like those cathedrals and stuff, like how many people
- 21:05Speaker 1: have actually like lost their lives in the process of
- 21:08Speaker 1: building these things? Because, um, I mean, back in the
- 21:12Speaker 1: day they didn't have like equipment forklifts and things like that.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Like how were we actually getting up there?
- 21:18Speaker 3: But right. Unfortunately.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Yes. Some people.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:25Speaker 3: The safety was not there. Um, So then Durham Cathedral, which, again,
- 21:32Speaker 3: a lot of the corridors were used, and this is
- 21:36Speaker 3: where McGonagall's office was filmed as well. As with any
- 21:41Speaker 3: building as old as this one, Durham Cathedral has its
- 21:45Speaker 3: fair share of unexplained happenings. So over the years, there
- 21:49Speaker 3: have been reports of unexplained footsteps, cold air spots, and
- 21:53Speaker 3: other noises reported in its halls. And something else that
- 21:59Speaker 3: can't really be explained, but that preserved the cathedral for
- 22:03Speaker 3: us to enjoy today, was a very unnatural and extremely
- 22:08Speaker 3: dense fog that settled in around the cathedral during World
- 22:12Speaker 3: War II. And locals claim this fog saved the cathedral
- 22:17Speaker 3: from being targeted by the German Luftwaffe bombers. And local
- 22:23Speaker 3: lore attributes this saving grace fog to St. Cuthbert. to
- 22:27Speaker 3: whom there is a shrine inside the cathedral. So the
- 22:30Speaker 3: fog is referred to as St. Cuthbert's Mist. So not
- 22:37Speaker 3: really a ghost story, but a cool bit of local lore.
- 22:45Speaker 3: And then nearby Durham Cathedral at Durham Castle, there's another
- 22:51Speaker 3: Grey Lady story too, so. You know, of course we
- 22:54Speaker 3: have to cover that. So this gray lady is said
- 22:58Speaker 3: to be the ghost of the wife of a 19th
- 23:01Speaker 3: century bishop who fell to her death down the top
- 23:05Speaker 3: of the black staircase. From some of the websites that
- 23:09Speaker 3: I was reading about this on, it seems like that
- 23:12Speaker 3: staircase is on a lot of the tours of the castle.
- 23:18Speaker 3: and that they usually tell this story when they get
- 23:20Speaker 3: to that part of the tour, and that a lot
- 23:23Speaker 3: of guests do report that, like, there's cold spots in
- 23:28Speaker 3: the air, and, like, things kind of feel kind of
- 23:30Speaker 3: weird there in that tower. So, interesting tidbit if you're
- 23:35Speaker 3: going to visit Durham Castle. And then we have Lake
- 23:40Speaker 3: Hawk Abbey, which was the site of classrooms, including the
- 23:45Speaker 3: potions class. So inside this manor house on the upper floors,
- 23:51Speaker 3: there have been many recorded reports of a small hunchbacked
- 23:55Speaker 3: figure in all black running around the rooms, particularly in
- 23:59Speaker 3: the children's nursery.
- 24:01Speaker 2: That's terrifying.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Creepy. Like this could be a horror film. This was
- 24:05Speaker 3: the one that I was like, um, well, not going there.
- 24:11Speaker 3: And to get even weirder. In local accounts, it seems
- 24:15Speaker 3: there were remains of a person with dwarfism found in
- 24:19Speaker 3: the walls of the Abbey. Though I'm not finding a
- 24:23Speaker 3: date on this discovery or really much other info other
- 24:28Speaker 3: than it happened. And it seems to be pretty accepted
- 24:32Speaker 3: in the local lore, which is weird. Like, why is
- 24:35Speaker 3: there not more record of this? Like, I feel like
- 24:38Speaker 3: we should know more about that, but okay. How did
- 24:41Speaker 3: he get in the walls? Like, that's a little concerning.
- 24:46Speaker 1: But all right.
- 24:50Speaker 3: I'd still be running around there, too, if I was
- 24:52Speaker 3: stuck in a wall.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Right, yes.
- 24:57Speaker 3: There's also several reports of a mourning woman in a
- 25:00Speaker 3: long-flowing gown spotted at the abbey and strolling by the
- 25:04Speaker 3: nearby lake. And this lady apparition is often tied to
- 25:08Speaker 3: Rosamund Clifford, the mistress of King Henry II. But the
- 25:15Speaker 3: timeline of the Abbey and when it was built is
- 25:18Speaker 3: after her era. So that doesn't totally make sense. So
- 25:24Speaker 3: she remains nameless. And her story is still pretty much unknown.
- 25:29Speaker 3: But she's there. Hopefully not in the walls. Yeah. Check
- 25:38Speaker 3: the walls.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Um what happened here and how many bodies are in
- 25:43Speaker 1: the walls here.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Yeah yeah uh so then christ church college which was
- 25:51Speaker 3: um the staircase scene in the first film and the
- 25:55Speaker 3: dining hall was inspiration for the great hall set um
- 25:59Speaker 3: this has a lot this is really interesting actually um
- 26:06Speaker 3: So back in the 1600s, England was in a civil war.
- 26:10Speaker 3: To recap, little history lesson, King Charles I believed that
- 26:15Speaker 3: kings were ordained by God to rule, and he basically
- 26:18Speaker 3: refused to cooperate with Parliament. And he went 11 years
- 26:24Speaker 3: in his reign without convening Parliament at all. He eventually
- 26:29Speaker 3: did call Parliament, but, um, You know, after 11 years,
- 26:33Speaker 3: things were pretty tense, obviously, and relations did not improve.
- 26:38Speaker 3: So very simplified history lesson. But to get to our story,
- 26:43Speaker 3: Christchurch College in Oxford was set up as the base
- 26:47Speaker 3: for King Charles and his royalists. So if we fast
- 26:51Speaker 3: forward to the end of the conflict, King Charles was
- 26:55Speaker 3: found guilty of high treason and executed by beheading. Fast
- 27:00Speaker 3: forward a little more. And there have been reports of
- 27:03Speaker 3: sightings of a headless ghost roaming the halls of Christ
- 27:07Speaker 3: Church College, the former headquarters for King Charles. Um, this
- 27:13Speaker 3: ghost has particular activity in the Bodleian libraries, which the
- 27:20Speaker 3: Hogwarts library and restricted section were filmed here. And it
- 27:25Speaker 3: said that King Charles, when living, was denied, um, borrowing
- 27:31Speaker 3: a book from said library. Um, so it's speculated that
- 27:36Speaker 3: maybe this headless ghost that could be assumed to be
- 27:40Speaker 3: a King Charles is trying to carry out a little
- 27:43Speaker 3: bit more rebellion during death and reading whatever he wants
- 27:48Speaker 3: from those shelves. Um, and then this one's really weird. Uh,
- 27:58Speaker 3: I always think it's so bizarre when we have like
- 28:00Speaker 3: actual physical evidence of things. So Henry Liddell was the
- 28:05Speaker 3: Dean of Christ Church College from 1855 to 1891. And
- 28:11Speaker 3: while you might not have heard of him, you may
- 28:14Speaker 3: have heard of or read about his daughter, Alice. And
- 28:19Speaker 3: Alice Liddell was the inspiration for Henry's writer friend, Charles Dodgson,
- 28:26Speaker 3: pen name Lewis Carroll. who wrote Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
- 28:31Speaker 3: and Through the Looking Glass. The real Alice had a
- 28:36Speaker 3: younger sister named Edith, who died very young, and Henry
- 28:42Speaker 3: Liddell was so distraught by Edith's death that for many years,
- 28:46Speaker 3: even speaking her name, was actually banned from the walls
- 28:49Speaker 3: of Christ Church College. After her death, a plaque dedicated
- 28:54Speaker 3: to Edith was placed on the wall inside the cathedral.
- 28:58Speaker 3: And when Dean Liddell died in 1898, something really, really
- 29:03Speaker 3: bizarre happened. On the wall next to Edith's plaque, a
- 29:08Speaker 3: dark stain began to appear. And it took a shape
- 29:13Speaker 3: that bore a very uncanny resemblance to Dean Liddell's profile.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 29:19Speaker 3: With his eyes pointed towards his daughter's memorial plaque. According
- 29:24Speaker 3: to reports, and newspaper reports, they actually had pictures of
- 29:28Speaker 3: this stain, the stain remained there for three years. But
- 29:36Speaker 3: the weird thing is, I can't figure out how it
- 29:39Speaker 3: was removed. or if it just like vanished on its
- 29:42Speaker 3: own after three years. I don't know. I couldn't find
- 29:45Speaker 3: that answer. But very strange. And this story kind of
- 29:49Speaker 3: captured the attention of the public who are trying to
- 29:54Speaker 3: figure out, okay, what's happening here.
- 29:57Speaker 1: So, yeah.
- 30:01Speaker 3: And then we have some stories connected to lakes or locks.
- 30:09Speaker 3: We've got Lock Shield, which is a stand-in for the
- 30:16Speaker 3: Great Lake at Hogwarts. So there's a lot of tales
- 30:22Speaker 3: of water monsters with this particular lock, luring people into
- 30:26Speaker 3: the depth of the lake. But Lock Shield also... has
- 30:31Speaker 3: a more recent paranormal development tied to an ancient one.
- 30:37Speaker 3: In the middle of the lock is St. Finan's Island.
- 30:42Speaker 3: The small, uninhabited island is the home of a Christian
- 30:45Speaker 3: burial ground from at least the early medieval period. There's
- 30:50Speaker 3: also a foundation of ruins from the 16th century stone
- 30:53Speaker 3: chapel that used to stand on the island. And in
- 30:56Speaker 3: those ruins was a bronze handbell believed to be more
- 31:01Speaker 3: than 1,000 years old. And it's around that bell that
- 31:06Speaker 3: our story centers. After the Jacobite Rising in 1745, the
- 31:12Speaker 3: handbell was stolen by a British soldier. However, the bell
- 31:16Speaker 3: was said to be cursed, meaning the thief did not
- 31:19Speaker 3: get very far. He was caught, flogged, and the bell
- 31:23Speaker 3: was returned to the island. Now, If you're out on
- 31:27Speaker 3: the loch, locals and visitors alike have said you can
- 31:30Speaker 3: hear the bell ringing from the island. But here's the
- 31:33Speaker 3: weird thing. It's when nobody's on the island and the
- 31:37Speaker 3: bell is no longer there because it was stolen again
- 31:40Speaker 3: in 2019. And locals say that the phantom bell is
- 31:47Speaker 3: perhaps being rung by St. Finan himself or that it's
- 31:51Speaker 3: a lingering echo of a piece of cultural and religious history.
- 31:56Speaker 3: that's now been lost. So that bell still has not
- 32:01Speaker 3: been recovered since 2019. Um, and there have been reports
- 32:07Speaker 3: of similar artifacts being stolen as well. Um, it's unclear
- 32:14Speaker 3: if they're related, but yeah, unfortunate. Um, and then moving
- 32:21Speaker 3: on to another lock lock more, um, There's a really
- 32:26Speaker 3: cool ghost dog legend associated with this lock. This story's
- 32:32Speaker 3: been passed down over the centuries and is tied to
- 32:36Speaker 3: Lockmoor and the nearby settlement of Meeble? Moble? Meeble.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Yeah, Meeble. We'll say Meeble.
- 32:50Speaker 3: And like most legends, there are variations, but basically to summarize...
- 32:56Speaker 3: In the early 1800s, there was a young Highlander named
- 32:59Speaker 3: Dugald MacDonald. Great name. He had a very faithful greyhound.
- 33:06Speaker 3: Dugald had to leave home for a military campaign, and
- 33:09Speaker 3: when he left, his greyhound was pregnant. While he was gone,
- 33:14Speaker 3: the dog swam out to an island on Loch Morer
- 33:17Speaker 3: and gave birth to her pups. Dugald returned, but his
- 33:22Speaker 3: beloved dog was missing. And he at some point ended
- 33:25Speaker 3: up on the island with the pups. And those pups,
- 33:30Speaker 3: now large dogs, did not know who he was. And
- 33:34Speaker 3: they unfortunately attacked him and killed him. The mother greyhound
- 33:40Speaker 3: arrived on the scene to see her master dead. And
- 33:42Speaker 3: she let out a horrible wailing howl that is still
- 33:45Speaker 3: heard sometimes to this day. Very haunting sound. And the
- 33:50Speaker 3: Greyhound is said to have kept vigil at her master's
- 33:53Speaker 3: grave until she herself died. And now it's said that
- 33:59Speaker 3: whenever a member of the MacDonald family is about to die,
- 34:03Speaker 3: a Greyhound will appear to them. And the dog has
- 34:07Speaker 3: become this harbinger of death. Or like the Grimm. Yeah.
- 34:16Speaker 3: And then... The last location I have on our list
- 34:20Speaker 3: here is the Cliffs of Moher, which is where that
- 34:24Speaker 3: cave scene in Half-Blood Prince is filmed. And this is
- 34:31Speaker 3: an interesting one as well. So this story is of
- 34:35Speaker 3: the lost city of Kilstiffin, and it's not of a
- 34:39Speaker 3: ghost person, but of an entire ghost city. So the
- 34:43Speaker 3: city of Kilstiffen is said to have been flooded after
- 34:47Speaker 3: the chieftain misplaced the golden key to unlock the castle's doors.
- 34:52Speaker 3: The water rushed in, claiming the city as its own,
- 34:55Speaker 3: and it's said that you can sometimes hear mournful harp
- 34:59Speaker 3: music coming from the water at the Cliffs of Moher.
- 35:03Speaker 3: And according to the legend, the ghost city reappears every
- 35:06Speaker 3: seven years. Seven, the most powerfully magical number.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 35:12Speaker 3: And if you see the city appear, you will die
- 35:15Speaker 3: before the next time it appears. So you don't want
- 35:18Speaker 3: to see it. Great story. There is no underground or
- 35:24Speaker 3: underwater city. But there was a tsunami that occurred in
- 35:30Speaker 3: the area between 799 and 802 AD, sinking bogs and
- 35:31Speaker 3: forests and reshaping the entire landscape there. which historians believe
- 35:41Speaker 3: led to this notion that there could be a sunken
- 35:44Speaker 3: world just off the shoreline.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 35:51Speaker 3: So lots of stories. And there were quite a bit more.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Maybe that'll be a part two next year. But yeah,
- 36:03Speaker 3: interesting stuff. I love a good unexplained story.
- 36:14Speaker 1: So last episode, we asked, what is your favorite ghostly
- 36:19Speaker 1: moment in the Harry Potter films?
- 36:21Speaker 2: We got a few responses.
- 36:23Speaker 1: So from HP after 2020 on Instagram said Myrtle telling Harry,
- 36:29Speaker 1: he can share her toilet if he dies in the
- 36:31Speaker 1: chamber of secrets.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Classic.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Um, Walnut Seeker on Instagram said the death day party,
- 36:40Speaker 1: but also the scene when Harry asks Nick if Sirius will.
- 36:43Speaker 2: Return as a ghost. That's obviously in the books, but, um,
- 36:47Speaker 2: in the films, just when we first meet them. Mm-hmm.
- 36:53Speaker 1: And from Jerry, Jerry said that she grew up with
- 36:57Speaker 1: early Casper the Friendly Ghost cartoons as her standard video ghost.
- 37:02Speaker 1: She said, I don't watch the films as often as
- 37:04Speaker 1: you seem to, so the only ghost that really made
- 37:06Speaker 1: much of an.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Impression on me was Moaning Myrtle. She is the only
- 37:09Speaker 2: one we see much of.
- 37:11Speaker 3: Myrtle's an icon.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Myrtle is.
- 37:13Speaker 3: Everyone's bringing her up. The OG.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Yeah, she's great.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Jerry says, of course, the introduction to Nearly Headless Nick
- 37:21Speaker 1: in movie one is fun, but he is so underused
- 37:23Speaker 1: in the films. All of his best bits from later
- 37:26Speaker 1: books gone. He never comes alive as a real character
- 37:29Speaker 1: as he does in the books.
- 37:31Speaker 2: I agree.
- 37:31Speaker 1: And I think we'll hopefully get to see a lot
- 37:34Speaker 1: more of that in the TV series. Jerry says, even
- 37:37Speaker 1: Myrtle doesn't really get enough film time. And, yeah, basically
- 37:42Speaker 1: what it said, Jerry said, let us hope that a
- 37:44Speaker 1: few years from now we can say that the TV
- 37:46Speaker 1: show does a better treatment of the ghost, if not
- 37:48Speaker 1: by technique, at least by the screen time and quality lines. Mm-hmm.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Jerry said, actually, in the films, it's the dead people
- 37:56Speaker 1: that Harry reacts with who are not ghosts that I
- 37:59Speaker 1: remember most. The echoes at the Juan interaction in Goblet,
- 38:03Speaker 1: and especially the return of Lupin and Sirius and Harry's
- 38:05Speaker 1: parents when he releases the Resurrection Stone in the final movie. And,
- 38:10Speaker 1: of course, Dumbledore at King's Cross. Probably the only Michael
- 38:13Speaker 1: Gammon Dumbledore that really works for me. Otherwise, I'm a
- 38:16Speaker 1: Richard Harris all the way fan. um jerry says now
- 38:19Speaker 1: the books have these interactions with dead loved ones um
- 38:22Speaker 1: very meaningful but also since the ghosts get such small
- 38:25Speaker 1: amounts of screen time in the films we never really
- 38:27Speaker 1: see harry or anyone else have much of a relationship
- 38:30Speaker 1: with one except for a bit with myrtle.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Yeah yeah that's something that definitely was lost in the
- 38:38Speaker 3: films of like the ghost just being there and being
- 38:42Speaker 3: like this accepted part of the community at hogwarts um
- 38:47Speaker 3: So hopefully that gets incorporated somehow.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:50Speaker 1: No, I think with like probably a much increased budget
- 38:54Speaker 1: and increased technology, it might be easier to have because
- 38:58Speaker 1: obviously there are special effects. Right. So it might be
- 39:01Speaker 1: easier to just kind of have them around rather than
- 39:04Speaker 1: only utilizing them like when we really need to. And
- 39:07Speaker 1: I'm saying we don't really have the budget.
- 39:10Speaker 2: To just have them there. So maybe that'll change.
- 39:16Speaker 1: So for this episode, we thought it was really challenging
- 39:20Speaker 1: to ask about the ghost stories that we talked about.
- 39:22Speaker 1: So we wanted to ask, what moment with the Hogwarts
- 39:26Speaker 1: ghost do you hope makes it into the TV show?
- 39:28Speaker 2: As always. we'd love to hear from you.
- 39:31Speaker 1: You can drop us an email at reveliopodcaststaff at gmail.com
- 39:35Speaker 1: or reach out to us on social media, where you

- 39:51Speaker 1: Can support the show on Patreon at patreon.com backslash Rebellio Podcast.
- 39:57Speaker 1: And we do want to give a quick shout out
- 40:00Speaker 1: to our newest Patreon supporter, Guy Brush.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Thanks so much for the support.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Thank you. We appreciate it. All right. Next episode will
- 40:12Speaker 3: be out of spooky season, which is weird. We've been
- 40:16Speaker 3: in spooky season for so long.
- 40:18Speaker 1: But.
- 40:19Speaker 3: That's okay. And then after that, we're going to be
- 40:24Speaker 3: in TV show season. For a while. Which we will
- 40:31Speaker 3: absolutely be covering when the episodes come out for the
- 40:36Speaker 3: TV show. Obviously, we don't know the release schedule yet
- 40:40Speaker 3: of those and what that's going to look like and
- 40:42Speaker 3: how they're going to chunk it or if it's going
- 40:44Speaker 3: to be weekly.
- 40:45Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 40:47Speaker 3: But we'll figure that out.
- 40:52Speaker 2: All right.
- 40:53Speaker 3: Well, until next time, I'm Amy.
- 40:56Speaker 2: And I'm Nicole. Mischief Managed.
