- 0:01Our understanding of existence is very much rooted in our own
- 0:05anthropocentric view of things. We generally recognize the
- 0:09awareness we hold within ourselves, and viewing other
- 0:14beings and forms in our visible environs, we either attribute to
- 0:19them no consciousness, or at best lower forms or development
- 0:25of consciousness for anything that exists outside the range of
- 0:30perception provided by our senses.
- 0:33We only admit existence when we find a way to capture and
- 0:36measure those things, and we treat them as purely physical,
- 0:40material actions of the universal energy, without any
- 0:44form of consciousness whatsoever.
- 0:48This view, however, is being challenged both by the
- 0:52experience of Rishis, sages and shaman, who are able to
- 0:56experience the consciousness of other forms and beings, and who
- 1:01are able to understand the unity of the universal creation, and
- 1:06who thereby recognize that consciousness permeates all
- 1:09existence, albeit in forms or powers different than those that
- 1:14are specific to human consciousness.
- 1:18Modern science is now starting to recognize the pervasiveness
- 1:22of consciousness as well. Once scientists recognized that
- 1:26matter is a form of energy, it was a relatively small step to
- 1:31begin to recognize that energy is a form of consciousness.
- 1:36This is the current revolution in understanding that scientists
- 1:39are awakening into. Yet our conception of
- 1:44consciousness at this level remains quite uncertain,
- 1:48diffused, and impersonal. We attribute personality to our
- 1:53own individuality, but fail to recognize that there may be in
- 1:59fact are other beings who have personal awareness and who act
- 2:04as a conscious self directing force within the larger
- 2:08manifestation. The entire evolution of
- 2:11consciousness is an obvious process of increasing
- 2:14self-awareness. Therefore, in stages beyond that
- 2:19of the human development, we would expect greater
- 2:22self-awareness and a greater sense of autonomy.
- 2:26Beings who represent higher stages of the evolution of
- 2:29consciousness would necessarily be expressions of greater powers
- 2:35of personal awareness than our human status.
- 2:40While consciousness is involved in matter and the early life
- 2:43forms, and thus does not appear to exhibit the characteristics
- 2:47of personality, it may be also be that we simply do not
- 2:52perceive what may nevertheless be present.
- 2:56Researchers of the plant Kingdom report entire networks of
- 2:59communication between trees in a forest, for instance, and
- 3:04expressions of pain, or at least reactions of stress as far as we
- 3:09are able to measure and interpret in trees when they
- 3:14experience the pain or suffering of another tree in their
- 3:17network. Similarly, expressions of grief
- 3:21at the death of a member of a tribe of elephants is a well
- 3:25documented phenomenon, implying once again individuality and a
- 3:31perception of relation that occurs between separate
- 3:35conscious beings. This leads us to the idea that
- 3:39there may be consciously active beings who act to support human
- 3:43development, as well as consciously active beings who
- 3:47are hostile to human development or who want to take advantage of
- 3:52human beings. There is a long history and
- 3:55human development of encounters with angels or demons, beings
- 4:00who exist on another level but whose action intersects with
- 4:04human life on certain levels or in particular circumstances.
- 4:10For good. Or I'll Do we live in a
- 4:13mechanical universe as the only conscious beings?
- 4:18Or is there a supreme conscious being who creates, organizes,
- 4:23contains, and constitutes the entire universal existence?
- 4:29Just as we can view light as either a wave or a particle?
- 4:34Is it not possible to see the universe from both an impersonal
- 4:39and a personal aspect? Shriorogindo notes quote.
- 4:46The forces are conscious. There are, besides
- 4:49individualized beings who represent the forces or use
- 4:53them, the wall between consciousness and force,
- 4:58Impersonality and personality becomes much thinner when one
- 5:03goes behind the veil of matter. If one looks at a working from
- 5:07the side of impersonal force, one sees a force or energy at
- 5:11work acting for a purpose or with a result.
- 5:15If one looks from the side of being, one sees a being
- 5:19possessing, guiding, and using, or else representative of and
- 5:25used by a conscious force as its instrument of spirit,
- 5:28specialized action and expression.
- 5:31You speak of the wave, but in modern science it has been found
- 5:35that if you look at the movement of energy, it appears on one
- 5:39side to be a wave and act as a wave, on the other as a mass of
- 5:44particles, and to act as a mass of particles each acting in its
- 5:49own way. It is somewhat the same
- 5:52principle here. End Quote Reference Shrioro,
