- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:29coop. Today I would like to talk to
- 0:32you about taking inventory of your time and figuring out what
- 0:38the heck distracts you. Because this is probably one of
- 0:43the toughest things that most people, most families, most
- 0:47clients, everybody that I talk to talks about time in some
- 0:51manner at some point in time. No pun intended there.
- 0:56This is a a sensitive subject for everybody because time is
- 0:59something that we all have. We're all given it and it and it
- 1:04ends. And some of us have a lot less
- 1:06time than others and some of us have a lot more time than
- 1:09others. And it it is a daily occurrence
- 1:13where we feel like we don't have enough time.
- 1:16So where do you begin when you're trying to figure this
- 1:21part of yourself out? Like, you know, it's just we run
- 1:23around telling to ourselves, I don't, I don't have enough time.
- 1:25How do you expect me to have the time to do that?
- 1:27Where am I going to find that time?
- 1:29We all have these reactions to time that are intense, that it's
- 1:33not just a little, it's intense. And I know, myself included, I
- 1:36used to be that way. And I had to really pull back
- 1:40the reins on myself and say, OK, what's the very first thing that
- 1:44I need to know in order to fix this?
- 1:46Well, that's taken inventory of your time.
- 1:48Where is your time going? Where are you spending your
- 1:51time? What are you doing that doesn't
- 1:55add value to your life and has become something that you use as
- 2:00a tool to desensitize yourself. Where are you wasting time where
- 2:04you could leverage out to someone else?
- 2:07Where are you putting your time? That's most useful.
- 2:11Now don't just do it for the things that are on the negative
- 2:14side of stuff. Look at the positive sides too.
- 2:17Where are you spending your time that is actually healthy?
- 2:20What are the things that are are healing your soul every day?
- 2:25What are the things that make you feel good doing them and
- 2:28really take a full blown inventory of it?
- 2:32Now, sometimes this exercise is really hard because we'll say,
- 2:37well, those are things I have to do.
- 2:39I have to do them. And those take adjustments to
- 2:44your stories. Like, you know, it's sometimes I
- 2:48tend to look at things and I'll go, well, I have to do that and
- 2:52then I'll stop and I'll pause and I'll go, no, I don't have to
- 2:54do that. I get to do that.
- 2:56Like I actually like doing laundry.
- 2:58I know this sounds insane, but I like cleaning.
- 3:01I like daily chores, but I've conditioned myself to not be
- 3:07annoyed by having daily chores. Partly because I like to do them
- 3:12and partly because I feel like that's my contribution back to
- 3:16my family, so they don't bother me.
- 3:18But some people absolutely don't like them.
- 3:21Some people should try to leverage them out.
- 3:23Some people should let their kids do more things.
- 3:25Because we have this insane belief that we have to do
- 3:29everything for our kids and we don't.
- 3:31And we should be giving them chores to do.
- 3:34And we should be letting them learn how to care for
- 3:36themselves. And we should be letting them
- 3:38fold their clothes and put them away, even though it's not
- 3:41right. Which we will take up in other
- 3:43podcasts. But right now this is all about
- 3:47just taking the inventory of the time because it you can't fix
- 3:51what you don't understand to a certain extent.
- 3:54Sometimes we don't have to understand at all to fix it
- 3:56because we can draw the line. But in this case with time we
- 4:00can really see where we are spending it when we have the
- 4:03inventory list. OK.
- 4:05So the exercise that I want you guys to go through as to really
- 4:11sit and write out where am I spending chunks of my time.
- 4:15Now you'll be able to do this immediately just based on the
- 4:19fact that you have a an understanding of your daytime or
- 4:24your day, right, Your schedule for the day, you'll be able to
- 4:26look at it. But I'm talking about all the
- 4:28little time thieves that are out there, like getting lost on
- 4:33social media and someone will say, well, that's just my guilty
- 4:36little pleasure. I love doing that.
- 4:38And that's totally fine. If you love doing it and it's
- 4:41not bringing you pain and it's not taking you away from other
- 4:45things that you could be doing or should be doing or want to be
- 4:49doing, then it's not a big deal. But for most of us, it's more of
- 4:55a sickness when we go down that road and we go too much.
- 4:58So you allow yourself some time but not tons of time.
- 5:01You know, one of the great things that my grandparents were
- 5:04great at was always being on point with allowing yourself a
- 5:08certain amount of time to do it. I remember my grandmother
- 5:11sitting there and watching her stories, her soap operas, and
- 5:14she would say, well, no, I only do this in the afternoon and
- 5:17it's only for an hour. And then I I go and do other
- 5:20things. But I would see her also
- 5:22knitting, I would see her doing baking, I would see her doing
- 5:26other things that she enjoyed as well.
- 5:29So she always gave herself that schedule of time to throw other
- 5:33things in. And I think now most of us don't
- 5:35do that. We'll say, well, I don't have
- 5:37time for that. And that's just sad because we
- 5:40can make time for whatever we want.
- 5:42We just have to schedule ourselves and take back the
- 5:46time. That does not add value.
- 5:49And when I say schedule ourselves, I don't mean overbook
- 5:51yourself. I mean look at your schedule and
- 5:53say, OK, where is all this time going?
- 5:57Where is it being spent? Where am I putting energy that
- 5:59it doesn't need to go? So today I would love you to do
- 6:04your exercise within time inventory.
- 6:07And maybe it's not just one day. Maybe you need to do this for a
- 6:11period of two or three days because days aren't always the
- 6:14same. Like a day off is not the same
- 6:16as a day working. And a day working might not be
- 6:19the same as if one day you're in the office and one day you're in
- 6:22your Home Office. So you might have to spend some
- 6:25time actually pouring into this and saying, hey, I've got to do
- 6:29this on a couple different levels so that I can see where
- 6:32it's all going and then I can decide what's working, what's
- 6:35not working and where I can shift.
- 6:37So hopefully you get this exercise done and you can start
- 6:41to see where do I want to put my time instead of just having it
- 6:47kind of be random. All right guys, have a great day
- 6:49and I will see you tomorrow. Bye.
