- 0:00Speaker 1: First game of twenty twenty six against a feisty opponent,
- 0:04Speaker 1: teams seemed to fare pretty good through the ups and downs.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Your take on the game.
- 0:08Speaker 2: I thought we played well, and you know, we talk
- 0:10Speaker 2: a lot about not confusing playing well and shooting well.
- 0:14Speaker 2: We didn't shoot well the first quarter, but our defense
- 0:16Speaker 2: was really good. We shot much better the second and
- 0:18Speaker 2: third quarter, So you know, it's not always a reflection
- 0:23Speaker 2: how well you shoot. It's really about how you play
- 0:25Speaker 2: the entire game. And I thought our defensive effort was
- 0:28Speaker 2: great and we were getting open looks.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the one that it seemed time for shooting too.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It wasn't that they were even trouble and they decided
- 0:36Speaker 1: to open up in a zone and that didn't seem
- 0:37Speaker 1: to phase you at all either.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Well, you know, after watching I think which game, oh,
- 0:42Speaker 2: Michigan or whoever played us in zone? We didn't handle
- 0:45Speaker 2: it well. I think a lot of people will probably
- 0:46Speaker 2: play us. So we've had to, you know, practice more
- 0:50Speaker 2: against it and get smarter, you know, to get to
- 0:53Speaker 2: open spots because you can't always just run a play
- 0:56Speaker 2: and get a shot. So ball movement's important getting it
- 1:00Speaker 2: to the right people. And we were able to do that.
- 1:02Speaker 1: It seed you talk about third quarter coming out and
- 1:05Speaker 1: setting the tone, it seems clockwork or it's your bread
- 1:08Speaker 1: and butter when you have the screen come off an
- 1:10Speaker 1: easy fudd come to the top of the key and
- 1:11Speaker 1: just you make it look so easy. Is it really
- 1:13Speaker 1: that easy?
- 1:14Speaker 2: Well, she makes it look easy. I think, you know,
- 1:16Speaker 2: there are a few people that I think every time
- 1:19Speaker 2: she shoes it is going in. Same thing with Sarah Strong,
- 1:21Speaker 2: I have a lot of confidence. So it's almost like
- 1:23Speaker 2: when she misses, or either one of the misses, I'm like, ooh,
- 1:26Speaker 2: like I'm surprised. But they both work really hard. They've
- 1:31Speaker 2: got great footwork and we were, you know, we're getting better.
- 1:34Speaker 2: We've got willing screeners, and I think that helps.
- 1:37Speaker 1: And talk about the depth of your team in from
- 1:40Speaker 1: different facets, whether it's the defensive end or even Zabelle
- 1:43Speaker 1: coming off the bench, and what she's able to provide
- 1:45Speaker 1: for your team too.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Well, obviously, you know we talk a lot about this too,
- 1:49Speaker 2: about opportunities that you have and when you go in
- 1:52Speaker 2: you have to take advantage of the opportunity. And again
- 1:54Speaker 2: that's not just scoring. And today Ali knocked in a
- 1:57Speaker 2: bunch of shots but I thought Ashland Shade had a
- 1:59Speaker 2: great game. And I don't even know what her numbers were,
- 2:02Speaker 2: but she got it. I know she had at least
- 2:03Speaker 2: three or for her offensive rebounds, she means had assists.
- 2:06Speaker 2: So looking at it without just concentrating on scoring, which
- 2:10Speaker 2: I know everyone that's the easiest thing to look at,
- 2:13Speaker 2: but looking out of the floor game and the things
- 2:16Speaker 2: that you do to help our team win, and I
- 2:17Speaker 2: think we had a lot of people contribute to that today.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Well, I do want to go back to that defensive
- 2:22Speaker 1: What are you're talking about as a unit? It's amazing
- 2:24Speaker 1: how many shot clock violations you get, or even the
- 2:27Speaker 1: deflections if it's not as steal and going the other way,
- 2:29Speaker 1: it's by unit and the one on one defense, it
- 2:31Speaker 1: just seems everybody locked in.
- 2:33Speaker 2: We're improving, I think from a one on one standpoint.
- 2:37Speaker 2: But I said something in Morgan, I think we had
- 2:39Speaker 2: the most jump balls today because I keep track of that,
- 2:43Speaker 2: probably we had ten. Normally you just have four, one
- 2:45Speaker 2: at each you know, the start of each quarter, but
- 2:49Speaker 2: we had six that we created, and I thought that
- 2:51Speaker 2: was really indicative of our aggressiveness.
- 2:54Speaker 1: So overall, you're given it an a will you give
- 2:57Speaker 1: it an A.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I don't know about an A. I mean, I think
- 2:59Speaker 2: a couple full of quarters, I'll say in a you know,
- 3:04Speaker 2: I think that last quarter where we were outscored again,
- 3:07Speaker 2: that's disappointing. So that's something that we want, you know,
- 3:10Speaker 2: that we concentrate on. But overall, I guess starting the
- 3:14Speaker 2: new year with an A, I guess that's all right,
- 3:16Speaker 2: you know, a reflection of you know, our kids did
- 3:18Speaker 2: really well in the school too, so maybe it's it's
- 3:21Speaker 2: fair that we got an AID today.
- 3:23Speaker 1: All right, great job, Well, congratulations on the wind and
- 3:25Speaker 1: have a good weekend. I hope you get some little
- 3:27Speaker 1: time to.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Yourself yes day off tomorrow.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Thanks you, okay, thanks coach,
