- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's Tuesday, it's the 13th of
- 0:15May, and I'm delighted that you have chosen to take a moment out
- 0:20of your busy day to spend it with me and God's Word so that
- 0:25you and I can dance to the rhythm of our God's words in our
- 0:29life. And part of that rhythm, part of
- 0:32the rhythm really kind of got cracked open for me last week
- 0:35with our proverbs, A proverb that spoke about planning for
- 0:39peace and experiencing joy. I have really, really been
- 0:44making an effort to work out how do I make space in my life for
- 0:48God's joy to bubble over, to plan for peace and let his work
- 0:54happen. Oh, what a glorious, what a
- 0:57glorious project to be to be working toward.
- 1:00So friends, I hope that you 2 are finding moments of joy,
- 1:03moments where you are aware of God's incredible blessing for
- 1:07you. And this is exactly what we're
- 1:10reading about this week. God's incredible blessing for us
- 1:13through everything who Jesus is and that Jesus achieved for us
- 1:19during his life. Just wow.
- 1:22And today the writer of Hebrews is going to do a big flex and
- 1:25say you thought Moses was impressive.
- 1:28This Jesus character, he takes the cake way bigger than any of
- 1:32the patriarchs that you might throw on him.
- 1:36So you ready? Let us hear this argument
- 1:38together as we read together Hebrews chapter 3.
- 1:52And so, dear brothers and sisters who belong to God and
- 1:55are partners with those called to heaven, think carefully about
- 2:00this Jesus, whom we declare to be God's messenger and high
- 2:04priest. For he was faithful to God, who
- 2:07appointed him, just as Moses served faithfully when he was
- 2:11entrusted with God's entire house.
- 2:14But Jesus deserves far more glory than Moses, just as a
- 2:18person who builds a house deserves more praise than the
- 2:21house itself for every house as a builder.
- 2:26But the one who built everything is God.
- 2:30Moses was certainly faithful in God's house as a servant.
- 2:34His work was an illustration of the truths God would reveal
- 2:37later. But Christ as the Son is in
- 2:42charge of God's entire house, and we are God's house if we
- 2:48keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ.
- 2:54That is why the Holy Spirit says today, when you hear His voice,
- 2:59don't harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled,
- 3:04when they tested me in the wilderness.
- 3:06There your ancestors tested and tried my patience, even though
- 3:11they saw my miracles for 40 years.
- 3:15So I was angry with them and I said their hearts always turn
- 3:20away from me. They refuse to do what I tell
- 3:23them. So in my anger I took an oath.
- 3:27They will never enter my place of rest.
- 3:33Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters, make sure that your
- 3:37own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away
- 3:42from the living God. You must warn each other every
- 3:46day while it is still to day, so that none of you will be
- 3:50deceived by sin and hardened against God.
- 3:55For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly
- 3:59as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs
- 4:04to Christ. Remember what it says to day
- 4:09when you hear His voice. Don't harden your hearts as
- 4:12Israel did when they rebelled. And who was it who rebelled
- 4:17against God even though they heard his voice?
- 4:21Wasn't it the people Moses LED out of Egypt and who made God
- 4:25angry for 40 years? Wasn't it the people who sinned,
- 4:30whose corpses lay in the wilderness?
- 4:34And to whom was God speaking when He took an oath that they
- 4:37would never enter His rest? Wasn't it the people who
- 4:41disobeyed Him? So we see that because of their
- 4:45unbelief, I have a not able to enter His rest.
- 4:58Our Lord, we certainly don't want our hearts to be hardened
- 5:01against you. What we want more than anything
- 5:05else is our hearts to beat as one with yours.
- 5:10So the things that break your heart also break ours, and that
- 5:15things that drive you and your angels to celebrate, whoop and
- 5:19cheer in heaven also make us respond with joy.
- 5:26God, transform our hearts from the inside out, take away our
- 5:32stubbornness, take away our hardness, take away our self
- 5:35centeredness and replace it with the fruits of Your spirit that
- 5:40look always to build up and encourage with gentleness and
- 5:43kindness and yes, even self discipline.
- 5:48We want nothing more than to be your hands and feet here on
- 5:53earth, sharing your grace around us.
- 5:57So as the author of Hebrew says, Lord, soften our hearts, let
- 6:02them not be hardened so that we can live according to your ways
- 6:07and bring about your Kingdom, the Kingdom of our mighty,
- 6:10mighty Saviour. That's you, Jesus, and we love
- 6:14you when we pray all of this in your precious name, Amen.
