- 0:06Speaker 1: Day, big guest list excited for it. Ron Kratz aj
- 0:11Speaker 1: Og crew here. Aj. We didn't have you yesterday. So
- 0:14Speaker 1: how was your first Fox game? You called Little Braves
- 0:17Speaker 1: Royals and Ernaldo Lopez looked like he was.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Okay, right, Yeah, his villo was there, which they were
- 0:22Speaker 2: worried about.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Uh, it was a great game if you didn't see it,
- 0:24Speaker 3: walk off Grand Slam for Tom Smith. Braves were down
- 0:29Speaker 3: to nothing. I'll tell you what, man, I don't know
- 0:31Speaker 3: what's going on with Carlos A. Steves, but oh boy,
- 0:34Speaker 3: his villa was down, and I think that's got to
- 0:36Speaker 3: be a concern for the Royals. He was like eighty
- 0:40Speaker 3: nine to ninety. It was weird, and he didn't really
- 0:43Speaker 3: have a lot of stuff that day, and he gave
- 0:47Speaker 3: up a six spot obviously took a ball off his foot.
- 0:50Speaker 3: I think it wasn't good for him. But the Braves
- 0:54Speaker 3: pitched really well. Uh, Sale pitch well, Lopez pitch well.
- 0:58Speaker 3: The bullpen was nasty for the for the Braves. So
- 1:01Speaker 3: they're off a nice start. But it was a great game.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Dom Smith walk off Grand same. You don't get to
- 1:04Speaker 3: see those very often, so that was cool.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true, and we talked about it yesterday in
- 1:09Speaker 1: case anyone missed it. During slap Pants, we talked about
- 1:12Speaker 1: the connection for Dom Smith, who had lost his mother
- 1:15Speaker 1: just a couple weeks prior. So, yeah, cool game to
- 1:18Speaker 1: start the year, full of emotions and storylines and all
- 1:21Speaker 1: of that. Right, we have a stacked show for you,
- 1:24Speaker 1: Like I said, so, we're going to charge fast right
- 1:26Speaker 1: now so that we can get into some of these
- 1:28Speaker 1: extensions that have been handed out. They usually get handed
- 1:31Speaker 1: out before this, but let's run it.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Let's charge it.
- 1:37Speaker 1: AJ extension. Season's supposed to be in spring training. What
- 1:39Speaker 1: is going on here? We'll take it though. CLT Emerson
- 1:41Speaker 1: and the Mariners agreeing to an eight year, ninety five
- 1:44Speaker 1: million dollar contract. The deal includes a ninth year club option,
- 1:47Speaker 1: a full no trade clause, and escalators that can bring
- 1:50Speaker 1: it north of one hundred and thirty million dollars. Emerson
- 1:53Speaker 1: is represented by Aces Agency. That's Robert Murray on the
- 1:57Speaker 1: scene breaking the news first. About AJ Emerson for some
- 2:03Speaker 1: is a question mark because if you don't follow prospects,
- 2:06Speaker 1: you don't know who he is yet. He's been on
- 2:08Speaker 1: this show, but he has not cracked the big leagues yet.
- 2:10Speaker 1: What do you think about deals like this for a
- 2:13Speaker 1: player who has a super high ceiling, well.
- 2:15Speaker 3: It's smart for both sides. I listen, I'm never going
- 2:18Speaker 3: to fall the guy forgetting what ninety five million dollars
- 2:20Speaker 3: and he hasn't even sniffed the big leagues yet, Like,
- 2:22Speaker 3: are you kidding me? Someone would have came to me
- 2:24Speaker 3: when I was in Triple A or Double A and said, hey,
- 2:27Speaker 3: here's ten million. I would have been like, where do
- 2:28Speaker 3: I sign? I'm never going to make that much money
- 2:30Speaker 3: in my life. So I just, yeah, I don't.
- 2:33Speaker 2: I don't. I don't have a fall with this and
- 2:35Speaker 2: I don't understand it. But uh, I don't know. I
- 2:41Speaker 2: don't know how you can be mad at this.
- 2:42Speaker 3: I know agents will say, oh, he could have got more,
- 2:44Speaker 3: he could have got this, he could have got that.
- 2:45Speaker 3: But then you have the guys who never make it.
- 2:47Speaker 3: And what was the guy for uh Philadelphia Kingery?
- 2:51Speaker 2: Is that his name? Kingry? Carry signed?
- 2:53Speaker 4: Like a yeah?
- 2:55Speaker 2: Never really? I mean, listen, here's what. Here's what teams do.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Teams go to the players sometimes, now listen, they go
- 3:01Speaker 3: around the agent and go directly to the players and say, hey,
- 3:05Speaker 3: here's we offer you sixty million dollars or whatever, blah
- 3:09Speaker 3: blah blah, will you take it? And then they go
- 3:12Speaker 3: to their agent. And so for some of these guys,
- 3:14Speaker 3: if they're super excited to get it, and I can't
- 3:16Speaker 3: blame them, it's smart. And then the team's like, well,
- 3:18Speaker 3: we got this guy locked up for six, seven, eight
- 3:20Speaker 3: years whatever it is, and we know where he's going
- 3:22Speaker 3: to stand. And I don't care what teams say. It
- 3:24Speaker 3: helps them have a guy move up faster if they're
- 3:27Speaker 3: making big league money in the minor leagues.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Oh, totally.
- 3:31Speaker 5: Scott Kingery I think signed for twenty four million. I
- 3:34Speaker 5: think was his number. John Singleton Jonathan Singleton was like
- 3:38Speaker 5: ten or twelve. There were some other things with Singhy
- 3:41Speaker 5: in there that he had to kind of resurface his
- 3:44Speaker 5: career later. But with Scott Kingery, I remember when he
- 3:47Speaker 5: signed it was there twenty four or twenty six million. Yes,
- 3:51Speaker 5: he didn't pan out, you know, I don't think that's
- 3:54Speaker 5: entirely his fault. I think you know, they they moved
- 3:56Speaker 5: him around, thought he was super utility guy, blah blah blah.
- 4:00Speaker 5: At the time, I said, you want to know what
- 4:03Speaker 5: big league teams think of twenty four million dollars. They're
- 4:06Speaker 5: giving it to somebody who had zero time in the
- 4:08Speaker 5: big leagues. Did they think he was gonna be a
- 4:11Speaker 5: big leader. Yeah, absolutely, But they showed twenty four million
- 4:15Speaker 5: dollars was fine. If this doesn't workout, we're find taking
- 4:19Speaker 5: a twenty four million dollar gamble essentially. So now with
- 4:24Speaker 5: Colt Emerson, I'm not saying Colt Emerson's Scott Kingery. I'm
- 4:27Speaker 5: saying that it shows the value of money to teams
- 4:32Speaker 5: understanding that this is a ninety million dollar gamble. I
- 4:37Speaker 5: think we're past the times when like injuries for position
- 4:40Speaker 5: players are like massive, like career ending type of injuries.
- 4:44Speaker 5: It's more of does this guy pan out to be
- 4:46Speaker 5: an All Star? Is cold Emerson pan out to.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Be that guy?
- 4:50Speaker 5: And teams are like, yeah, it's worth it. So this
- 4:55Speaker 5: is how I gauge what teams think of actual the
- 4:58Speaker 5: actual cash that's being given.
- 5:00Speaker 4: So I love this. I love this contract for both sides.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Yeah, he gets a full note trade clause and AJ
- 5:07Speaker 1: he's twenty twenty, so in eight years he's twenty eight,
- 5:12Speaker 1: in nine years he's twenty nine. He still gets another
- 5:15Speaker 1: crack at pre agency. If he's a superstar. Just like
- 5:17Speaker 1: Pete Crow Armstrong will.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Have what's the what was the guy in Milwaukee's name?
- 5:22Speaker 2: Not Emerson, the Pratt.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Let's get to him, Cooper Pratt. You want to get
- 5:25Speaker 1: to him. I can cueue that up to get because
- 5:27Speaker 1: all that yeah, yeah, okay, let's do it. Let me
- 5:30Speaker 1: let me set it up and then I'll swing it
- 5:32Speaker 1: right back to you, just so I can let ever
- 5:33Speaker 1: know about the money. So Cooper Pratt even lesser known,
- 5:36Speaker 1: I would say prospect compared to Emerson, who's been in
- 5:40Speaker 1: the scene for a couple of years. Pratt was a
- 5:43Speaker 1: sixth round pick in twenty twenty three, sixth rounder, so
- 5:46Speaker 1: not a first round guy. Eight years over fifty million
- 5:50Speaker 1: dollars guarantee. There's two option years that can push this
- 5:53Speaker 1: to around eighty plus. He's twenty one years old and
- 5:56Speaker 1: last year was a full season in Double A. He's
- 5:59Speaker 1: played three games so far this year in TRIPAA for
- 6:01Speaker 1: the first time. Cut down his kra last year. He's
- 6:03Speaker 1: got a good on base percentage in his career, but
- 6:05Speaker 1: last year his slash line in a full season was
- 6:08Speaker 1: two thirty eight three forty three on base three forty
- 6:13Speaker 1: eight slug. He does not have much pop in his
- 6:15Speaker 1: profile right now. He's a defense first shortstop and he
- 6:19Speaker 1: is the fiftieth overall prospect ranked by our friends over
- 6:22Speaker 1: at Baseball America. They'll have hot sheet later today and
- 6:24Speaker 1: they'll talk about it too, But anyway, aj your thoughts
- 6:26Speaker 1: on this one For a player who I don't think
- 6:29Speaker 1: has as high of a ceiling as cold Emerson.
- 6:34Speaker 2: This one's for the dudes looking for that peak bedroom performance.

- 7:32Speaker 1: blue choo.
- 7:37Speaker 2: From what I was told.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Okay, he was defense first base running, super fast, can
- 7:42Speaker 3: cover a lot of ground.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Right.
- 7:45Speaker 3: The team came to him and said, hey, here's what
- 7:47Speaker 3: fifty million a fifth whatever, fifty I forget, I'm sorry,
- 7:50Speaker 3: fifty million.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Right.
- 7:52Speaker 3: If you're him and you had just do you have
- 7:55Speaker 3: these numbers in what Double A last year? Would you
- 7:57Speaker 3: not accept a fifty million dollar contract? I'm sorry, sorry,
- 8:01Speaker 3: I'm sorry. Like, I can't say no. If I'm under
- 8:06Speaker 3: twenty one years old and they offer me fifty million
- 8:09Speaker 3: dollars and I hit two thirty eight in Double A
- 8:11Speaker 3: with eight homers.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Yeah, now could he make more?
- 8:15Speaker 4: Possibly? Yes?
- 8:16Speaker 3: Because people that I talk to, you know, in baseball,
- 8:19Speaker 3: because I didn't. I'd never heard of this guy when
- 8:21Speaker 3: he signed him, Like, who the heck? So I reached
- 8:22Speaker 3: out to some people.
- 8:22Speaker 4: I now.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Most people say he'll be a solid big league player.
- 8:26Speaker 3: He'll be a two probably two minimum of two win
- 8:28Speaker 3: war guy every year because of his speed and his defense. Okay,
- 8:33Speaker 3: but then if he figures out how to hit more,
- 8:35Speaker 3: he could be higher.
- 8:36Speaker 2: But he's still got fifty million in the bank and
- 8:40Speaker 2: he's twenty years old.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Twenty I think he's twenty years old, twenty one, twenty.
- 8:44Speaker 3: One, twenty one years old, and he just by the way,
- 8:46Speaker 3: he got fifty million, and you're in double A. I
- 8:47Speaker 3: guess who's buying that McDonald's on the road every day
- 8:50Speaker 3: double A?
- 8:51Speaker 4: Oh this guy?
- 8:52Speaker 1: Oh that better be Capital Grill on the road now
- 8:55Speaker 1: kidding make me fifty still?
- 8:56Speaker 3: But like, how do you tell a kid who's twenty
- 8:58Speaker 3: one in double A hit two thirty eight ers fifty million?
- 9:00Speaker 3: And I know, I mean, I think his agent might
- 9:03Speaker 3: be Boris, which I remember Boris never signs extensions except
- 9:06Speaker 3: for when he does. But think about it, he's fifty,
- 9:08Speaker 3: twenty one years old, he's got this money in the bank,
- 9:11Speaker 3: he invested this, he can grow and he's set no
- 9:13Speaker 3: matter what happened.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Same with Carrie when.
- 9:15Speaker 4: He did it.
- 9:16Speaker 3: I don't know I get why you would hold off.
- 9:18Speaker 3: If you're a you got the chance to be a
- 9:19Speaker 3: super superstar. But if you're not, dude, take the money, man.
- 9:22Speaker 5: I'm sorry, this is guaranteed fifty million. If you got
- 9:26Speaker 5: fifty dollars when you're in Double A, you're like, what
- 9:29Speaker 5: are we doing with this? But fifty million for a
- 9:33Speaker 5: guy who signed in the sixth round. He also he's
- 9:38Speaker 5: done a really good job of maximizing value sixth round.
- 9:42Speaker 5: He signed for one point three to five million in
- 9:45Speaker 5: the sixth round.
- 9:46Speaker 4: That doesn't happen.
- 9:47Speaker 5: So there's a there's a there's a solid ceiling that
- 9:51Speaker 5: people are saying, Okay, he's gonna hit this type of ceiling.
- 9:56Speaker 5: But to me, this is also what I just said
- 9:59Speaker 5: about what teams think of what fifty million dollars is.
- 10:03Speaker 5: He doesn't have. He didn't have a successful season statistically
- 10:09Speaker 5: at Double A last year and now he's at Triple A.
- 10:11Speaker 5: And for a player, you really need to just get
- 10:14Speaker 5: the opportunity in this contract. When they bring these contracts
- 10:17Speaker 5: to young players, they're probably not allowed to say the
- 10:21Speaker 5: exact words, this will accelerate your time to the big leagues,
- 10:24Speaker 5: but you know it will. And if he's defensively ready,
- 10:28Speaker 5: you can learn to hit in the big leagues. And
- 10:30Speaker 5: if you never learned to hit in the big leagues,
- 10:32Speaker 5: because a lot of guys don't, you still have fifty
- 10:35Speaker 5: million in the bank.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Also, also, by the way, let me add this, this
- 10:41Speaker 3: isn't the Dodgers. This isn't the Mats, This isn't the eighties,
- 10:44Speaker 3: this isn't this is a small market team that did this.
- 10:47Speaker 3: By the way, this isn't again, this isn't the Dodgers saying, hey,
- 10:51Speaker 3: we don fifty million, so there must be something to
- 10:53Speaker 3: this hole we have money thing again?
- 10:56Speaker 2: Could he have gotten more?
- 10:58Speaker 3: Absolutely? No, he did it and he's still suffered. He's
- 11:02Speaker 3: suffer life.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Good job, Brewers. Brewers are ruining baseball. Now.
- 11:06Speaker 5: They've locked up Christian Yellis. Years ago, they locked him up,
- 11:10Speaker 5: they locked up Jackson Churio. Now they locked up Cooper Pratt.
- 11:14Speaker 4: What next? What next? This is hideous, is unbelievable.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Yeah, let's let's show that board with the pre debut deals.
- 11:22Speaker 1: As Kratz is talking, Guy Kratz.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Guess who else is super excited about this? Connor Griffin.
- 11:29Speaker 5: Connor Griffin's going, Okay, I get my I get what
- 11:34Speaker 5: my value is, and I made the right call because
- 11:37Speaker 5: these dudes are getting it, and I'm the number one,
- 11:40Speaker 5: the consensus, number one overall prospect.
- 11:44Speaker 4: I can wait.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Yeah, the contracts have now boosted the value for Connor
- 11:49Speaker 1: Griffin before he even snips the big leagues, right, he
- 11:52Speaker 1: turned down a deal in the low ones. Now he's
- 11:55Speaker 1: going to be asking for the mid ones based on
- 11:58Speaker 1: what's out there. Yeah, hey, I'm I'm the top prospect
- 12:01Speaker 1: in the sport. This guy's the number fifty and whatever
- 12:03Speaker 1: Emerson is, it's not one. So Griffin's number goes up.
- 12:07Speaker 1: With that last part of the puzzle here, is it
- 12:11Speaker 1: curious to you that the Brewers do this?
- 12:13Speaker 4: Aj?
- 12:14Speaker 1: They have a lot of really good young talent. I'm
- 12:16Speaker 1: sure they might have floated deals like this to others,
- 12:18Speaker 1: like Heyzus made who's supposed to be a big deal.
- 12:20Speaker 1: They have a number of other middle infield prospects that
- 12:23Speaker 1: should be making their way up to the big leagues.
- 12:25Speaker 1: They have big leaguers already that are middle infielders that
- 12:28Speaker 1: should be in the bigs for a long period of time,
- 12:30Speaker 1: like a Bryce Terrang. They acquired Jet Williams. There's a
- 12:32Speaker 1: lot there, There's a lot jam. That's why again, I
- 12:34Speaker 1: think if I'm Cooper Pratt, I don't get lost in
- 12:36Speaker 1: the shuffle anymore. I get paid. But do you think
- 12:38Speaker 1: the Brewers are looking ahead at the CBA and wondering
- 12:41Speaker 1: if things are going to tilt where younger players get
- 12:44Speaker 1: paid more, and this is a way to get some
- 12:46Speaker 1: cost certainty with a guy who could end up costing
- 12:48Speaker 1: them more down the line, because I look at someone
- 12:50Speaker 1: like Cooper Pratt and I'm like, what's the ceiling? Is
- 12:52Speaker 1: it Brendan Donovan and a better defended You know, Donovan's
- 12:55Speaker 1: a good defender. Is this a better defender Brendan Donovan
- 12:58Speaker 1: who's shortstop, it could bounce around and has a get
- 13:00Speaker 1: on base percentage, not a twenty five plus homer guy.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I think exactly what you said, Scott.
- 13:06Speaker 3: They're trying to get ahead of this because they don't
- 13:07Speaker 3: know what's coming, right, So they're thinking because everything I've
- 13:10Speaker 3: heard is if they push hard for salary cap or whatever,
- 13:14Speaker 3: but they want to up the minimum. Everyone I've talked
- 13:16Speaker 3: to and heard talk says, well, if you just up
- 13:18Speaker 3: the minimum and then you can bring down the top,
- 13:20Speaker 3: then there's your salary cap and your salary structure and
- 13:22Speaker 3: all that.
- 13:23Speaker 4: You know.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Take it from what is a seven to fifty or
- 13:25Speaker 3: seven fifty and eight right now, make it a million
- 13:27Speaker 3: or two million dollars in that makes other people happy
- 13:30Speaker 3: and all this and that. So yeah, I think this
- 13:32Speaker 3: is a way of teams to get in front of it.
- 13:34Speaker 3: And I think the Brewers have always kind of been
- 13:37Speaker 3: in front of the curve of certain things, whether it's
- 13:39Speaker 3: signing guys, making trades before they need it to people say,
- 13:42Speaker 3: but then it works and they still competitive. I think
- 13:44Speaker 3: this is smart. I mean, Matt Arnold is not a
- 13:46Speaker 3: dumb person. Mark Antinasio, the owner of the Brewers, is
- 13:49Speaker 3: not a dumb person. And if you're the Marriers, is
- 13:51Speaker 3: JP Crawford a free agent at the end of this year.
- 13:53Speaker 3: I don't know his contract status, but I believe I'll check. Okay,
- 13:57Speaker 3: So then guess what they did. They just signed up
- 13:58Speaker 3: their hopeful short stoff for the next seven or eight years,
- 14:02Speaker 3: right depending on when he comes up. So boom, Why
- 14:05Speaker 3: would you not if you're the mayors, Hey, we know,
- 14:06Speaker 3: we know we're gonna pay our hopeful starting short stoff
- 14:09Speaker 3: for the next seven or eight years. That's a win
- 14:12Speaker 3: for the organization, and it's a win for a twenty
- 14:14Speaker 3: year old kid who just got tinety could be one
- 14:16Speaker 3: hundred and something million dollars exactly.
- 14:18Speaker 1: MJP is a free agent after this year.
- 14:20Speaker 5: That's what I thought, Okay, And there's and there's there's
- 14:24Speaker 5: different companies that pop up buying value in players early
- 14:28Speaker 5: on to give them the money. To me, when teams
- 14:31Speaker 5: do this, they're just doing that themselves. They're just doing
- 14:35Speaker 5: there's a reason those companies start. There's a reason that
- 14:38Speaker 5: people go to minor league baseball players and say I'll
- 14:41Speaker 5: give you X amount of dollars for future earnings. They're
- 14:45Speaker 5: not doing it because they're like, well, you know, I
- 14:47Speaker 5: had some extra money.
- 14:48Speaker 4: I feel like being a charity case.
- 14:50Speaker 5: No, there's value in signing people up that don't that
- 14:54Speaker 5: aren't making a lot of money. And when teams can
- 14:57Speaker 5: find that value and do it and be like, okay,
- 15:00Speaker 5: this is the amount of risk. Plus we've seen them,
- 15:04Speaker 5: we see how they work, we see how they play
- 15:06Speaker 5: day in and day out. To me, it's a no
- 15:09Speaker 5: brainer to me. I think teams should do it more.
- 15:11Speaker 5: And it can benefit the players, especially if they're not
- 15:15Speaker 5: taking these contracts out till they're like thirty two years old.
- 15:18Speaker 5: They still have their prime years to be able to
- 15:21Speaker 5: get those contracts.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Yep. It's called surplus value. It is a great way
- 15:25Speaker 1: to show your ownership group, how much the player is
- 15:27Speaker 1: worth versus how much he costs. We're gonna show this
- 15:30Speaker 1: video of Luis Castillo dealing a pitch that was called
- 15:34Speaker 1: a strike in then ABS said no, it just missed,
- 15:38Speaker 1: and pitching in just said umpire incompetent or a rulebook
- 15:41Speaker 1: ABS mismatch issue. This pitch may have been both a
- 15:44Speaker 1: strike according to the rule book strike zone three D
- 15:47Speaker 1: at the front of the plate and a ball according
- 15:48Speaker 1: to ABS two D mester at the middle of the plate. AJ,
- 15:51Speaker 1: I'll give you this minute here to rant and it'll
- 15:53Speaker 1: be like a good prequel to our Joe West conversation later.
- 15:57Speaker 2: The strike zone is three D. Why is it not
- 16:00Speaker 2: three D?
- 16:00Speaker 4: That's the only thing.
- 16:01Speaker 3: And I reached out to people on MLB to try
- 16:03Speaker 3: to get an answer, and they haven't heard back from
- 16:05Speaker 3: him yet. But it's three The strike zone is supposed
- 16:08Speaker 3: to be three D. And for everyone bashing Mike Esterbrook
- 16:10Speaker 3: and with the Yankees game yesterday, those balls were an
- 16:13Speaker 3: eighth of an inch or whatever it is underneath the
- 16:15Speaker 3: strike zone. So okay, if that's the middle of the plate, well,
- 16:18Speaker 3: the middle of the plate is about this far from
- 16:21Speaker 3: the front of the plate. So if that ball is
- 16:22Speaker 3: going down, it had to hit in the strike zone.
- 16:25Speaker 3: So actually he got it right, but he got penalized
- 16:28Speaker 3: and got it wrong, and all the fans like, Ah,
- 16:29Speaker 3: this guy sucks. In reality, he actually got the call right.
- 16:33Speaker 3: So this is where I'm confused with it. I thought
- 16:35Speaker 3: it was I thought the ABS was a three D
- 16:38Speaker 3: like some some of the broadcasts have the three D
- 16:40Speaker 3: plate with the thing, because that's how the strike zone
- 16:42Speaker 3: is supposed to be. It's not supposed to be just
- 16:44Speaker 3: a pane of glass. It's supposed to be like a
- 16:46Speaker 3: three D plate of the person. So I don't I
- 16:50Speaker 3: don't understand this. I don't get it. Why if we
- 16:52Speaker 3: don't have the technology, and then why are we running
- 16:54Speaker 3: with something that's not in the rule book.
- 16:56Speaker 2: That's that's my that's my question.
- 16:59Speaker 5: What I heard was that the three D zone was
- 17:03Speaker 5: less accurate, and it was also way bigger than intended,
- 17:08Speaker 5: and they felt like it would hurt offensive production.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Hey we're here, and I want to point out the
- 17:14Speaker 1: Baseball America tweet from JJ Cooper's article that is fresh
- 17:19Speaker 1: on the rule changes in baseball. This is going back
- 17:21Speaker 1: for a while now. AJ. I'm critical because I want
- 17:25Speaker 1: these rules in the league earlier ABS is the one
- 17:29Speaker 1: where you can make a case that they were getting
- 17:31Speaker 1: the tech down. Pitchclock for me, was ready a long
- 17:33Speaker 1: time ago. But here's where credit is due. The ones
- 17:36Speaker 1: they are selecting to be implemented in the majors are
- 17:38Speaker 1: working pitchclock, ban on infield shifts, n l DH, reduction
- 17:42Speaker 1: in pickoffs, three better rule, ABS challenge system. Do you
- 17:45Speaker 1: agree that they're nailing what they're changing, because there are
- 17:48Speaker 1: probably some rules being toyed around with that would not
- 17:51Speaker 1: work out so well.
- 17:55Speaker 3: I think everything on most of these have all worked.
- 17:57Speaker 3: I don't know what hasn't worked. I mean, bigger base,
- 18:00Speaker 3: more stolen bases, less shifts, more hits, more offense, everything
- 18:05Speaker 3: at quicker games, which we all know that I love
- 18:07Speaker 3: because I don't have talked for three and a half hours.
- 18:09Speaker 3: You only have to listen to my tired act for
- 18:10Speaker 3: two and a half hours, so uh, that's fine.
- 18:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:14Speaker 3: I think everything they've implemented has work. Now the ABS,
- 18:17Speaker 3: I think it needs some tweaks. I think it's been good.
- 18:19Speaker 3: The fans have been receptive, the players have been receptive,
- 18:21Speaker 3: but most of the stuff has been good.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's changing the way that fans, of
- 18:28Speaker 1: course young and old, are viewing the game, enjoying the game.
- 18:31Speaker 1: ABS challenge is so entertaining. Yeah, they might have to
- 18:34Speaker 1: get some kinks worked out, but you're seeing fans roaring
- 18:38Speaker 1: like it's a home run on pitch getting overturned. Will
- 18:43Speaker 1: that change? I actually don't think so. I think it's
- 18:45Speaker 1: going to carrycrats. I think the fans are going to
- 18:47Speaker 1: be excited like that from here on out because we
- 18:50Speaker 1: live in a world where people love trolling and they
- 18:52Speaker 1: get to say, ha, I told you so, do umpires.
- 18:55Speaker 5: The only way it changes is it for some reason
- 18:57Speaker 5: fans aren't engaged in it. Gauge no stoppage and play.
- 19:02Speaker 5: Do fans ever not pick their phone up? Now this
- 19:06Speaker 5: stoppage and play? They leave their phone down and they're
- 19:09Speaker 5: all riveted to the screen.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Our corner time. Let's start off with the Red Sox.
- 19:18Speaker 1: But I'm also just going to open this up to
- 19:20Speaker 1: you guys to see if you have any overreactions from
- 19:23Speaker 1: the first week of the season. There are certainly some
- 19:26Speaker 1: in Boston that are already a little bit perturbed, even
- 19:29Speaker 1: though it's been five minutes. So we can show the
- 19:32Speaker 1: tweet here to kind of sum up how some are
- 19:34Speaker 1: feeling up in Boston based on their off season. Did
- 19:37Speaker 1: they do things? Yeah, they did a lot. They did
- 19:39Speaker 1: a lot on the pitching front. Did they do enough
- 19:41Speaker 1: on the offensive side. Gabrielle Starr said, it's only the
- 19:45Speaker 1: fourth game of the season, but it is quite a
- 19:47Speaker 1: picture of the Red Sox offseason moves, two key pitching editions, struggling,
- 19:52Speaker 1: virtually no offensive contributions. They picked up Durban for the
- 19:58Speaker 1: most part, the lineup is gonna rely a lot on
- 20:00Speaker 1: some of the youngsters, like a Meyer and like a
- 20:03Speaker 1: Roman Anthony aj. For me, I didn't get to throw
- 20:07Speaker 1: my predictions in. We were busy running things around the
- 20:11Speaker 1: one team that I had. I said it the other
- 20:13Speaker 1: day on Opening Day on an Orioles radio station. Conveniently,
- 20:17Speaker 1: I think the Red Sox, out of the four contenders
- 20:20Speaker 1: in the AL East, have the highest chance in my mind,
- 20:23Speaker 1: of missing the playoffs. That's just how I feel based
- 20:25Speaker 1: on offenses. It is really hard for me to see
- 20:27Speaker 1: the Yankees or the Blue Jays missing the playoffs. So
- 20:30Speaker 1: then for me, it comes down to the next tier.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I think there's Tier one. Tier two is Boston and
- 20:34Speaker 1: Baltimore and I think the Orioles have a slight edge
- 20:37Speaker 1: based on their offense. The Red Sox might pitch a
- 20:39Speaker 1: little bit better, but I think there's enough of a
- 20:42Speaker 1: gap between those two lineups, especially when Holiday and Westburg
- 20:45Speaker 1: come back. I'm not sure I see it for Boston.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I think I see a good team could be an
- 20:49Speaker 1: eighty four win team that misses the playoffs.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Well, if the Blue Jays, if they keep losing starting
- 20:54Speaker 3: pitchers left and right, it's going to be it's going
- 20:56Speaker 3: to be really tough for them. I mean, they're losing guys.
- 20:58Speaker 3: It seemed like every time they take the field. So
- 21:01Speaker 3: for that it sucks. But as far as the Red
- 21:03Speaker 3: Sox go, you know, two of their offseason acquisitions struggled.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Who I mean, Sonny Gray went four innings. Listen, Sunny
- 21:09Speaker 3: Gray's a five to six inning guy at most. Anyways,
- 21:12Speaker 3: if you look at his track record, he's always been
- 21:14Speaker 3: kind of a five inning maybe get into the six
- 21:17Speaker 3: every once in a while kind of guy. And then Lozardo,
- 21:19Speaker 3: I think, is the other one she's probably talking about.
- 21:21Speaker 3: It was his first start, it was their first starts
- 21:24Speaker 3: of the year. Let's can we just it's just amazing
- 21:28Speaker 3: how or sorry, as Rangers sware as it started.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Sorry about my apologies.
- 21:34Speaker 2: It's their first start of the year.
- 21:36Speaker 3: They've been four games, sorry, four games they've played, and
- 21:39Speaker 3: we're all panicked about this. Four and a third, seven hits,
- 21:42Speaker 3: four in runs. Okay, so maybe the sinker wasn't sinking
- 21:45Speaker 3: as well as he.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Wanted it to.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Again, it's been one start. It's been one start for
- 21:48Speaker 3: Sunny Gray. Garrett Crochet looked amazing. We talked about how
- 21:52Speaker 3: good Cincinnati's pitching is. The Red Sox played Cincinnati the
- 21:55Speaker 3: first three games, right, They won one when Crochet threw
- 21:58Speaker 3: a shutout, and then they didn't score and neither team
- 21:59Speaker 3: really did a lot of scoring, so it lost one
- 22:01Speaker 3: game in extra innings. I think this is just trying
- 22:05Speaker 3: to get people to overreact, which we're really great at today,
- 22:07Speaker 3: especially with social media. Let's put a headline out there,
- 22:10Speaker 3: and we love Gabrielle Star, but let's put a headline
- 22:13Speaker 3: and she's not just the only one guilty.
- 22:14Speaker 2: This is everyone. Hey, let's put a.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Huge headline out there that gets people to click on
- 22:18Speaker 3: our article, and then if you start digging in a
- 22:20Speaker 3: little bit, you realize again, much like Tony Vaitello, it's
- 22:22Speaker 3: been four games.
- 22:23Speaker 2: They haven't even been through the rotation one time. Everyone
- 22:25Speaker 2: chill out in Boston.
- 22:27Speaker 5: I think the Boston offense issues are going to be
- 22:31Speaker 5: talked about the entire season because of the fact that
- 22:36Speaker 5: they didn't resign. It's the easy it's the easy route,
- 22:40Speaker 5: it's the easy commentary that all they didn't resign Bragman Like,
- 22:45Speaker 5: Bragman's not like an MVP candidate at the plate. He
- 22:48Speaker 5: helped everybody else. He helped all the young guys in
- 22:52Speaker 5: their plate discipline. So to me, that's where his value
- 22:56Speaker 5: is going to be missed in this lineup. My opinion
- 23:01Speaker 5: is they didn't do enough offensively. What wins championships pitching
- 23:05Speaker 5: in defense. Absolutely so. Is their defense the defense that
- 23:11Speaker 5: started the year first half of the season, or is
- 23:14Speaker 5: it how they finished in the second half of the
- 23:17Speaker 5: season where they had guys that were a little bit
- 23:19Speaker 5: out of position.
- 23:21Speaker 4: Similar things are happening.
- 23:22Speaker 5: They have one of the better center fielders in the game,
- 23:25Speaker 5: but last year they were like, Okay, he's going to
- 23:27Speaker 5: be in center. He could play really good at second.
- 23:29Speaker 5: What's the to me if they're going to have success offensively,
- 23:33Speaker 5: Because I think that's the question I could care less
- 23:35Speaker 5: about their pitching. I think their pitching is going to
- 23:37Speaker 5: be legit. When you have three guys in Gray Ranger
- 23:41Speaker 5: and Garrett Crochet, I think they're going to be totally fine.
- 23:44Speaker 5: My question is, are they going to run the same
- 23:47Speaker 5: lineup out there every day or are they going to
- 23:49Speaker 5: do like they did on Opening Day? I think it
- 23:51Speaker 5: was Opening Day where they're platooning for Marcella Meyer. Maybe
- 23:56Speaker 5: he's not ready yet to be an everyday guy. To me,
- 23:59Speaker 5: I think that's where do they have the consistent lineup
- 24:03Speaker 5: for these young guys to know they come to the
- 24:04Speaker 5: ballpark every day they're playing. They come to the ballpark
- 24:07Speaker 5: on the third game of a three game series and
- 24:09Speaker 5: they go, I know what this team has done to me.
- 24:12Speaker 5: I'm smart enough based on what I've learned in the
- 24:14Speaker 5: big leagues. I'm going to make the adjustment and I'm
- 24:16Speaker 5: going to have a much better third game of this series.
- 24:19Speaker 5: That's how I think this team's going to have success,
- 24:22Speaker 5: not trying to be cute Nicolin diming here and there.
- 24:25Speaker 5: So that's where I think the offense will do well
- 24:27Speaker 5: for Boston. But I still think they're really built to
- 24:30Speaker 5: be a five hundred team. Unfortunately.
- 24:33Speaker 1: M Yeah, that's what I'm feeling. Yeah, you're a few
- 24:36Speaker 1: shades above or below the five hundred mark, and if
- 24:39Speaker 1: you get a few shades above, you could sneak into
- 24:41Speaker 1: the playoffs. It's just it's a really, really good division.
- 24:45Speaker 1: It's a gauntlet division. While we're on this topic, by
- 24:48Speaker 1: the way, AJ actually, for me, since we're not going
- 24:50Speaker 1: to talk a ton about last night, we'll spin it forward.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I think the theme was all of the pitching that shine.
- 24:55Speaker 1: You had some guys making debuts like an Edward Cabrera
- 24:58Speaker 1: with his new team at Luis Steele looking fantastic after
- 25:02Speaker 1: Mariner's staff said he looks as good as he has
- 25:04Speaker 1: since a few years ago, with some pitch mixed tweaks
- 25:08Speaker 1: and with a little bit of a VLO bumped there.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Lance mccullors going seven innings giving up one run for Houston.
- 25:15Speaker 1: That one stands out. I mean, I'm probably missing a few.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Mike Soroka making his debut this season, ten strikeouts and
- 25:21Speaker 1: five innings. There were a lot of good pitching performances.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Bryce Elder carrying what he did late last year. Braves
- 25:26Speaker 1: fans have been all over him, but he had the
- 25:28Speaker 1: velow boost, and he again looked good in a four
- 25:30Speaker 1: to nothing win for the Braves. Chase Burns looking good
- 25:34Speaker 1: picking up his first win. He's got big time stuff
- 25:37Speaker 1: for the Reds and I think could be the difference
- 25:40Speaker 1: maker for them, hanging around in a wild card spot
- 25:42Speaker 1: while Hunter Green is out and what else? I mean,
- 25:46Speaker 1: that's a lot. Oh, last one you'll like this was
- 25:50Speaker 1: he great? I don't think he was great, but he
- 25:53Speaker 1: gave four innings, gave up one run. Roki Sazaki didn't
- 25:55Speaker 1: look like the guy who was lost in spring training,
- 25:58Speaker 1: so there was a lot to like yesterday from a
- 26:00Speaker 1: pitching standpoint. This episode is brought to you by Fox One.

- 26:25Speaker 3: of anything you want to watch on an app. Fox

- 26:43Speaker 1: Go to Fox one for complete terms and conditions. Fox
- 26:47Speaker 1: one Streaming Now.
- 26:49Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a lot of it's also cold, it's early
- 26:51Speaker 3: in the year. Pitchers are always a head of hitters,
- 26:53Speaker 3: I feel like early in the year, so let's let's
- 26:55Speaker 3: give them. But there was comment we didn't eve mention early.
- 26:57Speaker 3: By the way, he pitched really great for the Red
- 26:59Speaker 3: Sox and his one start, so let's not forget about him. Yeah, listen,
- 27:03Speaker 3: pitching has been great. The scores have been way down
- 27:06Speaker 3: for me. There's a lot of low scores three to twos,
- 27:08Speaker 3: three to ones, four to threes, not a lot of
- 27:11Speaker 3: ten to nine ball games like we saw in spring training.
- 27:13Speaker 3: So the pitching has been really good and it's fun
- 27:15Speaker 3: to watch if you like pitching and defense. I mean, Atlanta,
- 27:18Speaker 3: everyone was worried about their starting pitching. Look at what
- 27:20Speaker 3: they've done in their first four games. They've been pretty
- 27:22Speaker 3: darn good. So I think I think it's the way
- 27:26Speaker 3: it is right now. It's throwing in the air, and
- 27:27Speaker 3: as far as Aszaki goes, yeah, he threw it over
- 27:29Speaker 3: the plate. It's weird crowds, so you throw it over
- 27:30Speaker 3: the plate, How much better you do?
- 27:32Speaker 4: Gee bird days?
- 27:34Speaker 5: Wow, what a what a novelty, especially because you're not
- 27:38Speaker 5: in the big leagues if you don't have good stuff.
- 27:40Speaker 5: Goneer the days where I mean I watched I watched
- 27:43Speaker 5: Foster Griffin throw. You know, he was eighty nine to
- 27:46Speaker 5: ninety one. He was living on the corners. He was
- 27:48Speaker 5: throwing from a from an awkward angle where you know,
- 27:51Speaker 5: the ball was sweeping from a different distance that guys
- 27:56Speaker 5: are not used to like unless you do something funky
- 27:59Speaker 5: like that rowing on the plate with good stuff, it's
- 28:02Speaker 5: hard to hit. As much as aj made it look
- 28:05Speaker 5: easy getting two thousand hits, I'm pretty sure he would
- 28:08Speaker 5: say hitting is hard.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Yeah, one more shout out to Kyle Harrison. Five innings,
- 28:14Speaker 1: one run, eight k's for the Brewers. Many people high
- 28:18Speaker 1: on what he'll look like with Milwaukee. And then yeah,
- 28:20Speaker 1: let's go back to Griffin. So that's my next topic
- 28:22Speaker 1: for you, Kratz. So he goes five innings, two runs,
- 28:25Speaker 1: five strikeouts, coming from overseas back to the US pitching
- 28:29Speaker 1: for the Nationals, who were off to a three and
- 28:31Speaker 1: one start. They pounded the Phillies thirteen to two. I'm
- 28:34Speaker 1: not going to spend a ton of time on how
- 28:36Speaker 1: we think the Phillies are going to look for the
- 28:37Speaker 1: year after four games, But what did you think about
- 28:40Speaker 1: Rob Thompson being tossed because they allowed Drew Millis to
- 28:45Speaker 1: meel us to return to third after that replay review,
- 28:48Speaker 1: the overturn out at first base.
- 28:52Speaker 4: I mean, I don't see how you can't get tossed.
- 28:55Speaker 5: There's just there's certain situations where when it doesn't go
- 28:59Speaker 5: your way, you.
- 29:02Speaker 4: Have to get thrown out. Like it's just a it's
- 29:05Speaker 4: a I don't understand.
- 29:09Speaker 5: I don't understand how like the play is supposed to continue,
- 29:14Speaker 5: the play is not stopped. When replay started, they said,
- 29:19Speaker 5: play the play out. There is nothing that is telling
- 29:22Speaker 5: you that this play is what it is called on
- 29:25Speaker 5: the field. You have to play it out. That is
- 29:28Speaker 5: like one of the basic I remember back in twenty fourteen,
- 29:30Speaker 5: they were like, if there's a play, play it, like
- 29:33Speaker 5: it was called safe, it was called out.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Whatever it is.
- 29:35Speaker 5: This is a live ball. There's no way he should
- 29:39Speaker 5: have been given the base because because they said it
- 29:42Speaker 5: was the third out. No no, no, no, no, you
- 29:44Speaker 5: play it out. I completely agree, And now I'm I
- 29:49Speaker 5: was glad to see Donnie baseball at the Helm for
- 29:52Speaker 5: the Phillies last night.
- 29:55Speaker 3: All right, listen, here here's the problem we have with replay.
- 29:58Speaker 3: This is one of those situations where where do you
- 29:59Speaker 3: put runners?
- 30:00Speaker 2: What do you do with him?
- 30:01Speaker 3: The runner looks up, he's rounding third, he sees the
- 30:03Speaker 3: umpire call him out. Should he have kept running? Sure,
- 30:07Speaker 3: but most guys are gonna stop. They're like, okay, third out.
- 30:09Speaker 3: They don't even think that far ahead of replay or whatever.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Now I give the pitcher for the Phillies credit. He
- 30:15Speaker 3: fired at home. Marshaun tackled the guy at third, which
- 30:18Speaker 3: was also kind of funny, but then he helped him up.
- 30:22Speaker 3: But Rob Thompson has to get thrown out of this game.
- 30:25Speaker 3: But this is one of the weird things with replays
- 30:27Speaker 3: is sometimes they don't know where to put runners, and
- 30:29Speaker 3: they also can't The thing is you can't go back
- 30:32Speaker 3: to the replay and say, oh, well, he was gonna score.
- 30:36Speaker 3: He wasn't gonna score. Maybe the easy thing to do
- 30:39Speaker 3: was to put him back third.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Was it the right call.
- 30:41Speaker 3: I don't know it just as funny. But Rob Thompson
- 30:43Speaker 3: did the right thing. He had to get kicked out.
- 30:45Speaker 3: He was defending his player. They were getting crushed by
- 30:47Speaker 3: the Nationals at home. The fans are already starting to
- 30:50Speaker 3: boo in Philly. They already they're like, ah, this team
- 30:52Speaker 3: stinks D D. And by the way, when we did
- 30:55Speaker 3: our prediction, Joe Dad, I said, no manager. I didn't
- 30:57Speaker 3: think it was gonna get fired. I didn't want to
- 30:58Speaker 3: say any But when you talk about managers that are
- 31:01Speaker 3: probably a little bit under pressure because listen, Rob Thompson,
- 31:06Speaker 3: we love him. I think he's a great dude. I
- 31:07Speaker 3: think he's doing a great job. But the guy sitting
- 31:10Speaker 3: next to Rob Thompson on that bench is Don Mattingly.
- 31:12Speaker 3: He's managed before, he's had success before, he's a You
- 31:16Speaker 3: can make the argument he should be in the Hall
- 31:18Speaker 3: of Fame as a player. He's sitting right there, and
- 31:21Speaker 3: he's an easy thing for Dave Dombrowski if things don't
- 31:23Speaker 3: go right to say, hey.
- 31:24Speaker 2: So Rob Thompsons stand up for his guys. I like it.
- 31:27Speaker 2: I understand why he did it. Was it the right
- 31:29Speaker 2: call by the Empires. I don't freaking know. I don't
- 31:32Speaker 2: know what.
- 31:32Speaker 3: There's nothing in the rule book that says this guy
- 31:34Speaker 3: has to go here or do this, So I don't know.
- 31:36Speaker 3: But Kudo's the topper for getting kicked out.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Yeah, he's going to feel more heat in the division
- 31:42Speaker 1: this year. I think the Mets are going to give
- 31:44Speaker 1: them more of a run and the Braves are going
- 31:47Speaker 1: to give them more of a run. You don't think so, Kratz, Yeah.
- 31:51Speaker 4: I.
- 31:52Speaker 5: Think they definitely are. I think it's you have to
- 31:55Speaker 5: be seen at the Mets pitching. Is Freddy Peralta going
- 31:58Speaker 5: to be the guy?
- 31:59Speaker 4: Is? You know? He has to be the guy? There's
- 32:01Speaker 4: no choice to me.
- 32:02Speaker 5: I think this might be crazy if I think the
- 32:04Speaker 5: Mets offense is actually better than it was last year.
- 32:07Speaker 5: I get it they don't have Pete Alonzo, but I
- 32:10Speaker 5: just think it's a different looking offense than the Bats
- 32:14Speaker 5: are different looking than what I saw from the Mets
- 32:17Speaker 5: last year.
- 32:18Speaker 4: Obviously it's five games.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Yeah, Hey, the Mets front office field the same way.
- 32:22Speaker 1: That's why they made the changes they made despite getting
- 32:25Speaker 1: some blowback from people. Hey, there was a pretty tough
- 32:29Speaker 1: looking injury yesterday for Cody Ponce in his debut. You
- 32:32Speaker 1: got thirty million bucks over three years to sign back
- 32:35Speaker 1: in Major League Baseball with the Blue Jays. Kp Kem Pelar,
- 32:38Speaker 1: who's a host on Bluebird Territory. You see him here
- 32:41Speaker 1: on FT sometimes, former Blue Jays star. So don't want
- 32:44Speaker 1: to speculate about ponce. But I've been in sports a
- 32:46Speaker 1: long time.
- 32:46Speaker 4: I know what that looked like.
- 32:47Speaker 1: I'm really hoping the best for him and that it
- 32:49Speaker 1: isn't as serious as it looked. Waited a long time
- 32:52Speaker 1: to be back in this position. We don't have word yet.
- 32:55Speaker 1: We'll probably get word today on how bad it was
- 32:58Speaker 1: for him. And like you mentioned a the Blue Jays
- 33:01Speaker 1: are down some starters. Early on, people were like, oh,
- 33:03Speaker 1: where the classic, where's everybody going to pitch?
- 33:06Speaker 4: What day?
- 33:07Speaker 1: There's too many starters? Until then you go, wait, there's
- 33:09Speaker 1: not enough starters.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Yeah, they've lost Ponts, Birio says, and then you Savage
- 33:14Speaker 3: already down. That's three starters and Boden Francis is out
- 33:18Speaker 3: for the year. Right, So there's four there down already
- 33:20Speaker 3: proven big league starters. So luckily they do have some
- 33:23Speaker 3: depth there. But man, I don't never want to speculate.
- 33:25Speaker 3: I don't know what KP was saying. I saw the injury.
- 33:27Speaker 3: I don't know if he was what he was thinking.
- 33:29Speaker 3: He never want to speculate it, but it didn't look good.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Let's just hope him. Pray for the best.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Bieber too, Oh, Bieber. Yeah, there's a lot of guys
- 33:36Speaker 1: missing already, and this is part of the World Series hangover.
- 33:40Speaker 1: You don't have to win the World Series to feel
- 33:41Speaker 1: the hangover. I'm not saying that the playoffs caused the injuries,
- 33:44Speaker 1: but you do see teams feel it, especially on the
- 33:47Speaker 1: pitching front, after they go deep into it in October.
- 33:50Speaker 5: Run Let yourself get healthy. The Dodgers did it last year.
- 33:54Speaker 5: I'm not saying there's their rotten. Rotation is as good
- 33:57Speaker 5: as the Dodgers. Let yourself. Let your rotation get healthy.
- 34:00Speaker 5: You don't have to have five guys throw thirty one starts.
- 34:05Speaker 5: I texted ponce this morning. He responded, So that's good.
- 34:08Speaker 5: I mean, sometimes when guys are down and out about
- 34:11Speaker 5: an injury, there's no response. So it's just it's tough.
- 34:15Speaker 5: It's tough when you do it in the first game.
- 34:17Speaker 5: You come back to the States to play and hopefully
- 34:20Speaker 5: it's a speedy recovery yep.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Wishing him a speeding recovery for sure. And for the
- 34:26Speaker 1: Blue Jays, they actually got beat up pretty good. Find
- 34:28Speaker 1: the Rockies yesterday and their fans were doing the expectations
- 34:31Speaker 1: get set very high, very quickly.
- 34:33Speaker 3: Yeah, But the Blue Jays lost their starter in with
- 34:36Speaker 3: the first inning, so then they're scrambling to cover.
- 34:39Speaker 2: So, I mean it was one game.
- 34:41Speaker 5: Guys were getting extended. Guys were getting extended in that
- 34:44Speaker 5: game like they were pitching. Probably should have been out
- 34:47Speaker 5: and you know, after they got their first three or
- 34:51Speaker 5: four outs, but in a game like that, you got
- 34:53Speaker 5: to stretch that three or four outs to seven or
- 34:57Speaker 5: eight outs if you can. And that's that's where they
- 34:59Speaker 5: started to get a a little bit thin yesterday.
- 35:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:02Speaker 1: And if you stuck around, you saw another homer from
- 35:05Speaker 1: Okamoto in the ninth. He's got too.
- 35:07Speaker 4: Pall was so high.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Yeah, he's good. A couple other things news wise, guys,
- 35:13Speaker 1: the Mets are hiring JD. Martinez as a special advisor
- 35:16Speaker 1: to baseball operations. It's going to be a similar role
- 35:18Speaker 1: to what Carlos Beltron's doing time around the players in
- 35:21Speaker 1: the clubhouse, on the field, et cetera. He last played
- 35:25Speaker 1: when he was with the Mets in twenty twenty four.
- 35:27Speaker 1: So that basically calls it a career for JD Martinez. AJ.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Yeah, great career for him too, by the way, great
- 35:34Speaker 2: career for him. He turned himself.
- 35:36Speaker 3: He was remember he was a prospect and he came
- 35:38Speaker 3: up and he couldn't hit, and he went back to
- 35:39Speaker 3: work and he changed his whole swing and became a
- 35:42Speaker 3: really good player that was on some really good teams.
- 35:45Speaker 3: And congratulations JD on a great career and he's one
- 35:49Speaker 3: of the good guys too in baseball.
- 35:52Speaker 4: Really change.
- 35:53Speaker 5: I mean you hear people change your swing all the time.
- 35:55Speaker 5: I saw him in Houston. I think it was thirteen
- 35:58Speaker 5: or fourteen. I mean yeah, so it was thirteen and
- 36:02Speaker 5: you were like he was doing that like foot down
- 36:05Speaker 5: super early. And then in fourteen he went to Toledo
- 36:11Speaker 5: with the Tigers and just hit like ten homers in
- 36:15Speaker 5: cold Toledo in April and people were like, ah, whatever,
- 36:17Speaker 5: he's still hitting triple A dingers. And then he went
- 36:20Speaker 5: and had an incredible run for homer game. I think
- 36:24Speaker 5: he made four All Stars, five All Stars, six All Stars,
- 36:30Speaker 5: MVP fourth in MVP voting in twenty eighteen World Series Championship.
- 36:38Speaker 4: It's a good swing change.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Yeah, made a big impact on some teammates too. You know,
- 36:43Speaker 1: he kind of became a pseudo coach at times for
- 36:45Speaker 1: some and you'll be able to see him do that
- 36:48Speaker 1: now as a special advisor with.
- 36:49Speaker 3: The menage when you film VP. He made it a
- 36:54Speaker 3: thing to film VP, and he was the first guy
- 36:56Speaker 3: to ever do that.
- 36:57Speaker 1: You'd always see like all the phones with the tripods
- 37:00Speaker 1: out before most of the other teams were doing it,
- 37:02Speaker 1: and then other teams are like, uh, maybe we should
- 37:04Speaker 1: do this, and then everyone's doing all kinds of stuff
- 37:07Speaker 1: like that. All right, ft, everyone else for hanging around.
- 37:11Speaker 1: We appreciate it, so thank you. Back to normal protocol
