- 0:00Straight guys are ruining women's sports, men's sports,
- 0:04and more sports. Dear God, we are back. It is
- 0:08Monday. I'm Cody Decker. I'm Tonya Rae Fox.
- 0:11And we could not have a better week to be kicking things back
- 0:15off with. Cody, thank you for coming back to us. We missed you.
- 0:18We are The Regulars. Let's do this.
- 0:28Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back! Holy hell,
- 0:32we are back! Tanya Rae Fox, I have missed the living hell
- 0:36out of you for a week. I am thrilled to see your face. Mocha,
- 0:39I'm even fucking happy to see you, man. What a time to be alive.
- 0:42By the way, did everybody know that, uh, straight dudes are just the worst
- 0:46fucking type of people in the world? I'm not gonna lie, we did know,
- 0:49because straight dudes are just ruining sports. As a straight man,
- 0:52We're ruining sports apparently because holy shit, no one can keep it together.
- 0:56This is batshit. Yesterday was maybe the most embarrassing
- 1:00thing I've ever seen. And I do mean this, ever seen on
- 1:05a professional sports anything. And I'm blown away,
- 1:10blown away by a lot of the talking points, specifically by politicians.
- 1:14Yeah, no, it's gotten really upsetting,
- 1:18but on, on the positive
- 1:21side of things, uh, we are leading our
- 1:25show with, uh, an interesting take on the, on the entire
- 1:29thing. And, uh, there's even more.
- 1:32It's not even— it's not even maybe the most
- 1:36upsetting thing that's happened in the last 24
- 1:40hours in sports, because you could go with the white men ruining sport,
- 1:44or you could go with the rapists ruining sports. You do that, you know what
- 1:47I mean? So like, it's really like a big— it's an overflowing cup of shitshowery.
- 1:51It's just amazing. It's, it's amazing. The, the announcement today,
- 1:54of course, of Deshaun Watson, of which don't worry, we'll get to, uh, and of
- 1:58course redacted dipshit from yesterday of don't worry,
- 2:01we'll get to. And also, I don't know, the owner of the Dodgers I
- 2:05guess might be broke, or is he? We don't fucking know. He's seemingly paying
- 2:09himself with insurance money from his own insurance company.
- 2:12Allegedly. I can't fucking keep up with any of this shit
- 2:16at this point, and it is fucking batshit. This whole sports world
- 2:20is legitimately on fire in a way that I've never seen
- 2:23ever, to the point where I'm wondering what's the positive of sports today.
- 2:27Well, we're gonna, we're gonna have a couple. We're gonna intersperse a couple positives to
- 2:32keep it light. We are. You know me. I— because the last thing I
- 2:36want to do is be the same, uh, the, the same echo chamber of angry
- 2:39bullshit as everybody else, but it is hard to avoid the big stuff.
- 2:43Yep. So we're gonna try to do both. We're gonna talk about good things,
- 2:46we're gonna talk about some tough things, and we're gonna talk about media,
- 2:49which is also going down the shitter too. Boy, however, we finally
- 2:53have a different angle to a media story, something we've talked about
- 2:57a ton. We're gonna actually talk about the flip side of it, so I'm excited
- 3:00to talk to you about that. I'm excited, excited, excited. So, oh, we also are
- 3:04gonna close the show with a catch-up corner, so if you guys wanna know how
- 3:06Kody's vacay was, what I've been up to. We both had, uh,
- 3:10an interesting last, what, like 12 days since we last
- 3:13did a show. Oh boy, oh boy, have I, have I had an interesting 12
- 3:17days. Yeah, boy, have I had an interesting one. So yeah, we got a lot
- 3:21to talk about. And, uh, Tanya, headline number 1, let's fucking
- 3:25get right into this shit show. Okay, I wrote my own headline for
- 3:29this. The headline's entitled Loser Grifts off
- 3:33of women who are more talented than him by being a transphobe who was allowed
- 3:37courtside at a WNBA game. Uh, we will be doing
- 3:40this entire segment without actually saying this man's name. If you are watching
- 3:44this show, you know who it is. Uh, not giving more
- 3:47time and attention than absolutely necessary to a jealous dumpster scum basketball
- 3:52castoff. So that's the jealous basketball castoff.
- 3:56Uh, was attending a
- 4:01WNBA game at Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Sunday,
- 4:05landed courtside, which I found interesting. Sources around the league say
- 4:09that Redacted and fellow former NBA player
- 4:13Redacted are not eligible to play in the WNBA after the pair declared
- 4:17themselves women and eligible for the draft. Redacted was removed from the building Sunday
- 4:21after a verbal altercation with Chicago Sky point guard Natasha Cloud.
- 4:25Redacted was sitting courtside in a black t-shirt that read, women,
- 4:29noun, adult human female. When a timeout was called late
- 4:33in the 3rd quarter, Cloud walked toward Redacted and shouted at him.
- 4:36He was standing with his arms outstretched and took a few steps toward the court
- 4:40before security cut him off and directed him to leave. One source
- 4:44said Redacted had been making comments toward Cloud throughout the game,
- 4:47though a fan wearing a gold Caitlin Clark Fever shirt
- 4:51sitting near him said he only cheered during the game.
- 4:55Now we have video evidence of what happened during the game. Sure do.
- 4:59I don't know what the gold-wearing Caitlin Clark fan
- 5:02was doing, but sounds like they're doing a little bit of PR for old redacted
- 5:07himself. Cody, I don't think we need to
- 5:10bore the people with anything more than they
- 5:14already know about us, which is that we are, we are anti-transphobes.
- 5:18Yes. We fucking hate transphobes. Truly do. We have already addressed
- 5:22more than 4 million times at this point that trans
- 5:26women in sports are such a small percentage of even collegiate
- 5:31athletes that we can barely count them on 2 hands.
- 5:34This is not a real issue. And even if there were a trans woman who
- 5:38wanted to play in the WNBA, we do not have a problem with it,
- 5:40point blank. What I want to know from you, since we are finally getting
- 5:44to actually talk about this, is Where do you stand
- 5:47on redacted even getting a fucking courtside seat
- 5:52at a WNBA game? Fucking shameful and embarrassing, the fact that this even came to
- 5:55play. The only thing that I'm truly most disappointed in is
- 5:58that anyone held back Natasha Cloud from beating the shit out of this dude,
- 6:02because I think she could have done it. I think she absolutely could have done
- 6:05it because no one— but she shouldn't have to. She shouldn't have to at all.
- 6:07But it is embarrassing that it even got to this point. It is so embarrassing
- 6:10the amount of people that are showing their asses. I had a great time unfollowing
- 6:13a lot of dumb fucks. I, I, I mean this from the bottom of my
- 6:16heart, and I've said it before and I'll say it again, and it'll probably be
- 6:18hopefully the last time I say it today on this particular subject.
- 6:21There is nothing more pathetic and weak than being a transphobe.
- 6:25It is literally the most embarrassing fucking thing you can be. There is
- 6:28nothing lower than truly hating a group of people who
- 6:32are more marginalized, of the smallest margin of human beings probably on planet
- 6:36Earth, that I don't know what to do with myself. It is so fucking weak
- 6:40and pathetic to hate these people and treat them the way that
- 6:43you do. And to do it in the guise of protecting women.
- 6:47You just went on the fucking court and basically started a fucking fight with a
- 6:50woman. Fuck you. This is embarrassing shit. And the fact
- 6:54that the WNBA and whatever— was this in— where'd this take place? Chicago? Or this—
- 6:57Chicago. It wasn't Chicago. The fact that they was even allowed in is fucking
- 7:01embarrassing. This is— I don't even know who I
- 7:04should be most mad at. Should I be most mad at Chicago? Should I be
- 7:07mad at the WNBA? Should I— I'm already mad at redacted dipshit. Uh,
- 7:10like, I, I don't know what to do. The only person I'm really happy with
- 7:13was Natasha Cloud. I'm just mad she didn't beat the shit out of him.
- 7:16Yeah, I mean, I— it's so frustrating too because Natasha
- 7:20Cloud is, you know, having a really great season on a,
- 7:23on a tough team, and she's playing to secure a spot
- 7:27in the league next year. She's a veteran player. She wants to
- 7:31make sure that she gets an opportunity to— these— there's not a lot of roster
- 7:34spots in the WNBA. There are not. And she's playing to make sure that she
- 7:37is valued enough by, you know, to be able to make a team next year.
- 7:41She's the kind of veteran leadership that any, you know,
- 7:44potential playoff team would love to have. And she has to spend her time
- 7:49doing this shit. Now, a few games ago, Angel Reese
- 7:52had to stand on the court and point out in the crowd toward another
- 7:56straight man, straight white man who was throwing a dildo onto
- 8:00the fucking court. That's what these women are being— that's what they're being exposed to
- 8:04by the men who want to protect women's sports. Yep. They're— having their games interrupted
- 8:08with misogyny and sexual harassment.
- 8:12And these are superstars. These are, these are 2 women who should have
- 8:16everything in the world to focus on other than this fucking bullshit.
- 8:20And I blame the WNBA and the teams themselves
- 8:24for allowing that person a courtside seat.
- 8:28Sorry. I know how difficult it is to get a courtside seat at these
- 8:32games. It's not easy. The WNBA is not the, you know, the days of old
- 8:35where they're trying to like, these are superstar teams, a superstar-caliber
- 8:39league, and courtside's a fucking privilege.
- 8:42So I don't know what security measures
- 8:46need to be put in place. There's going to be a lot of people who
- 8:49say, well, you know, you can't just like if he buys a ticket, blah,
- 8:51blah, blah. No bullshit. Yes, you can. Yeah, you can. It's a fucking private
- 8:55business. You can do whatever you want. Like, you can do whatever
- 8:59you want. You can deny whoever you want a fucking ticket, actually.
- 9:02Like, you just fucking can. And him being there and courtside,
- 9:07no less, uh, disruptive, not surprising.
- 9:10It's, it's an embarrassing thing for this league that
- 9:14they cannot in this moment protect their players from this level
- 9:18of harassment. And I find it really interesting,
- 9:21Cody, that over the last couple of years, a lot of the coaches
- 9:26and Kathy Engelbert herself, when they've been asked about the harassment of
- 9:30WNBA players, it's been like It's mostly online trolls. You know, this is
- 9:34not WNBA fans. The fans are great, blah, blah, blah.
- 9:37Now, repeatedly, Black women specifically have said, actually, no.
- 9:41Along with the new players in the league, Caitlin Clark
- 9:44specifically, have come a lot of people who are yelling racial slurs. And it's
- 9:48not just online, but online is bad enough. But it's always been,
- 9:51that's not the spirit of the game. These are online trolls and we need to,
- 9:54you know, blah, blah, blah. They've sort of deflected it. This is exactly what we
- 9:58knew would happen. The, the constant deflection
- 10:02of the hate and the bigotry onto simply
- 10:05online trolls when you and I both know we live in the fucking United States
- 10:09of America. Hate and bigotry is everywhere. Oh boy.
- 10:13They made a massive fucking miscalculation based
- 10:17in their own bigotry. And now look at where we fucking are. We're heading into
- 10:21the fucking WNBA playoffs, very likely to be the most
- 10:25watched WNBA playoffs in the history of the fucking league.
- 10:29And this is the shit that they're, that they're dealing with. I am fucking livid.
- 10:33I'm livid. It's embarrassing. And by the way, I've,
- 10:36I have not been on the board of get rid of Cathy Engelbert.
- 10:40I am now. I firmly believe she is in and over her head.
- 10:43She can't protect the players in any way, shape, or form. And that
- 10:47is very unfortunate. And I'll also admit she's not been put in the greatest position
- 10:50ever because clearly she's also not the commissioner of the league. She is under the
- 10:54actual commissioner of the league, of which At this point, I don't know who it
- 10:57is. As much as they want to say it's Adam Silver, is it? I really,
- 11:00I really can't tell. Yeah, he's sort of the de facto, like he's the one
- 11:02who makes, kind of pulls the strings at
- 11:06the end of the day. You know, before we get into a little bit of
- 11:09what's going on in the WNBA outside of this, because by the
- 11:13way, we will never say redacted's name on the show. No, no, I redacted
- 11:17it. And you will never hear his name. You will never hear me fucking say
- 11:20it. He is as irrelevant as anybody on planet
- 11:23Earth. In fact, of the dildos that have been on the court, he is the
- 11:26biggest dildo that has been on the court. A week of— yeah, a week of
- 11:29dildos, and somehow they found a fucking 6'10 one, or however. Congratulations, the largest dildo
- 11:33imaginable has made it onto the WNBA court. Um,
- 11:36so before we get into that though, I wanted to— I wanted to ask your
- 11:40opinion on someone on my, um, that I follow on Threads, one of my mutuals,
- 11:43and I'm trying to find her name, and I'm going to shout her out when
- 11:46I can. But she had said she'd seen this theory and kind of
- 11:50expanded on it, that somebody who would be a good commissioner, uh, it was De'Adria
- 11:54DiAdria101 on Threads,
- 11:57that she thought potentially a good option for commissioner for
- 12:01the WNBA would be Mark Cuban. And interesting, the theory sort
- 12:05of being this is a billionaire who knows how to talk to billionaires, a businessman
- 12:09who understands how to deal in these rooms. He's clearly very like—
- 12:13he's fairly liberal for a billionaire,
- 12:17for a billionaire, and He has
- 12:21experience in basketball. He has basketball connections. Yeah.
- 12:24And he's charming. Like, he's a good public speaker. He's charming. He's good at handling
- 12:28the media. You know what's funny about him specifically? Listen,
- 12:31I'm sure he's detached from reality as every billionaire
- 12:34is. Yes, this is on the scale of billionaires. Yeah, but I
- 12:38want to put it on the scale of billionaires. He is the most relatable billionaire
- 12:42that has come across. And I do think there is a reason for it.
- 12:44The guy— also J.B. Pritzker. I don't know enough about— oh, you're right,
- 12:47JB. Yes, I do know enough about JB. But the reason why I
- 12:50think this— and he's talked about it before— he was like 31
- 12:54years old. He talked about how, like, his bank account was at exactly zero.
- 12:58Yeah. I think there is a perspective that comes out. He did live a decent
- 13:02length of time before he was super wealthy. Yeah, it's still— I
- 13:06mean, so it's still a lot of these guys and it sort of just doesn't
- 13:08fucking matter. You're right. But I do like looking around
- 13:12at the commissioners. You and I have talked about this. I don't respect any of
- 13:14them. So not one. It's not— maybe part of this is like, we know
- 13:18the commissioner works for the owners and the billionaires. Like, the commissioner is not there
- 13:22to take care of the players. No, no, no, no. They used to be much
- 13:26more player-friendly back in the day when we were like very,
- 13:29very young was the last time that the commissioner could be a player-friendly position,
- 13:34because back then the owners were actually a normal level of
- 13:39wealthy. As these leagues have boomed and the billionaires
- 13:42class has become— has ballooned and taken up more and more of the wealth and
- 13:46more and more of these teams, They have way more power. People used to buy
- 13:50these teams for like $50, $100 million. They were normal,
- 13:55super wealthy people. Now that you have to wrangle billionaires,
- 13:58commissioner is a billionaire management job. Very much so.
- 14:01And let's see if a billionaire could manage the billionaires.
- 14:05You probably can. That's actually— that's actually a really good perspective on
- 14:09it because it's a billionaire that can't be strong-armed by all the other billionaires.
- 14:13But that also might be a reason why he would never be hired as a
- 14:16commissioner. Sure. I mean, you know, Adam Silver's likely going to have the final
- 14:20say on that. He did most likely Kathy Engelbert as well. And, you know,
- 14:23obviously, like, WNBA fans are like, who could actually run the league best for
- 14:27the players? Candace Parker. Yeah, of course. Like, oh God, that would be great.
- 14:30Or somebody like, you know, um, like Nneka, you know, like, who just,
- 14:34who just retired. Like, somebody like that, sure. But no,
- 14:38they're not actually gonna do that. Uh, Nneka is actually right here. Ron actually suggested
- 14:42Nneka right away, uh, immediately for WNBA commissioner. Yeah, Nneka Ogwumike would be be amazing
- 14:46for the players, but she, but she will get absolutely fucking steamrolled
- 14:50by the owners. Not because she can't stand up for herself, not because she's not
- 14:54smart enough, but because that's what owners do. That's why every single commissioner
- 14:58that we used to like— Rob Manfred, Adam Silver— has become a fucking supervillain.
- 15:03It's, it's because they, they have no longer— can— I don't think Rob
- 15:06Manfred and Adam Silver came into the league thinking, you know what I'm gonna do,
- 15:09try to fuck the players as humanly I don't think Rob Manfred wants a fucking
- 15:13salary cap. I actually— I'm glad you said that.
- 15:17Yeah, I actually— Rob Manfred, I've met Rob many times.
- 15:22He's not an idiot. Yeah, he's a very, very smart and sharp guy.
- 15:26And Rob Manfred, who has made many mistakes and
- 15:30I've given— I've called them out, I've given him shit for it. But I've
- 15:33also been very clear on the positives of Rob Manfred.
- 15:37If I— if I'll make this abundantly clear, if I had my choice between Bud
- 15:40Selig and Rob Manfred, I'm taking Rob Manfred fucking
- 15:4320 out of 20 times. Yeah, period.
- 15:46Rob Manfred has been a net positive for Major League Baseball. Has he made mistakes?
- 15:50No question. Are we coming up to what is maybe the
- 15:54scariest time in baseball history? We are. We legitimately are.
- 15:58And the peripheral around it is really causing extra problems. Don't worry,
- 16:02we will get to it. Yeah, but I, I have to say, I agree
- 16:06with you. Yeah. Rob Manfred might be toeing the line what the owners want him
- 16:09to do. Yeah, but Rob Manfred, I think, firmly believes and firmly knows for
- 16:13a fact that a salary cap would actually be a net negative for Major League
- 16:17Baseball. But he has no ability to actually voice that.
- 16:20Zero. So he is going to sell what the owners want, and that's what the
- 16:23WNBA commissioner is going to do too. And I don't, I don't think Nneka
- 16:27should even have to fucking do that. I just don't think she should even have
- 16:30to do that. She could be utilized to build the game in ways that are
- 16:33so much more suited for her as a player advocate. She would be stripped of
- 16:37her player advocacy as a commissioner. She would, point blank, no question.
- 16:40Um, as far as the WNBA and where it's at right now that doesn't
- 16:44feature a piece of shit, um, the WNBA playoff picture is shaping
- 16:48up. As of today, the top 7 teams in the standings have clinched postseason berths.
- 16:52So that's the Lynx, the Valkyries, the Aces, the Dream,
- 16:56the Fever, the Liberty, and the Washington Mystics. Um, and then,
- 17:00uh, fighting for the WNBA Finals spot is the Dallas Wings, who are in the
- 17:04driver's seat for the 8th and final spot, uh, but mathematically, technically, the Portland Fire
- 17:08are still in it. Um, so we're assuming the Wings will make it
- 17:12through. That's, you know, Paige Bueckers is, is the face, sort of
- 17:16the star of that team, but they have a lot of really good young talent.
- 17:18And it's, uh, it's a top— it's
- 17:22a huge deal for Angel Reese, who is one of the most famous players in
- 17:26the WNBA but had not made the playoffs until this year.
- 17:30This is her 3rd year in the league and this is her first time making
- 17:33the playoffs. She's been on a heater since missing her game-winning layup
- 17:37against the Fever, and she recently
- 17:40had 31 points, career record 31
- 17:44points for her, 14 rebounds, 4 steals. I did
- 17:47the, I did the quick little lookup. That's happened one time in
- 17:51the history of the WNBA. One player in the history of the WNBA
- 17:55has ever scored 31 points with 14 rebounds and at least 4 steals. And that
- 17:59was Tamika Catchings in 2002. So she's doing shit
- 18:03we've never seen before, you know? And I'm really excited for someone of
- 18:06her caliber and her status to be in the, in the playoffs. I think it's
- 18:10going to help to be in the playoffs with Caitlin Clark, with all of
- 18:14the superstars, Nafissa Collier and Olivia Miles in Minnesota,
- 18:17with the Big 3 on the Aces, with Paige Bueckers. This is going to
- 18:21be fucking awesome. Not to mention we still got you know, Breanna Stewart,
- 18:24who's one of the greatest players we've ever seen, playing in, in New York.
- 18:28So it's going to be a really good playoffs, and I really
- 18:32am looking forward to maybe watching some games with you,
- 18:36watching, getting an opportunity to enjoy this playoffs the way we did the, the NBA
- 18:39playoffs and talking fucking basketball. It'll be great. I think that that's something that's,
- 18:44that's on my radar in the middle of NFL season,
- 18:48making sure that we're uplifting this league that deserves
- 18:52to be uplifted. And that's the other thing. I'm glad you actually said that.
- 18:55It deserves to be uplifted. This league has been
- 18:58on the upswing for the last decade, and it
- 19:02is the most— it's funny, DFish has described it in private so many times.
- 19:06It is a booming fucking stock right now. A booming stock.
- 19:10Not talking about it is insane considering the
- 19:14fact that it is booming. Like, I can understand not wanting to, you know,
- 19:17not talking about it 10 years ago because it wasn't booming at the time.
- 19:20It has been. Oh, it's in the headlines now. It's, it's leading, it's leading,
- 19:23you know, shows and everything else, and it's time that everybody get on board.
- 19:27It's fucking good. The basketball's so good, dude. The basketball is so good.
- 19:30It's so fun. The games are so fun. Um,
- 19:33like, anybody who hasn't clocked into women's basketball in a minute, you know,
- 19:37I think would be surprised at just like that
- 19:41these women are fucking ballers. They're fucking ballers. They've always been ballers.
- 19:44And the thing is, I I've been reflecting on this because as a
- 19:48kid, uh, women's basketball was
- 19:52a big deal. I don't— we were exactly the same age when we were young.
- 19:55The women's basketball stars were fucking so famous. Sheryl Swoopes was so famous.
- 19:59Lisa Leslie was so famous. Dude, unquestionably. Like, here's the thing, if you grew up
- 20:03in the '90s like we grew up in the '90s specifically, if you watch Nickelodeon
- 20:06like we all fucking did, dude, like Sheryl Swoopes and fucking— they were, they were
- 20:09on every fucking show. It was so fucking popular at
- 20:13the time. I think everyone's completely forgotten this altogether. They have. They've rewritten— because
- 20:18first of all, fame used to be a different thing back then because social media
- 20:21wasn't watering it down. So I, like, when I was— I didn't, like,
- 20:24sit down and watch WNBA games as a kid. I knew who Lisa,
- 20:28who Cheryl, who, uh, who Rebecca Lobo,
- 20:31all of these superstars on those teams, and Cheryl Miller, who obviously
- 20:36was like— came ahead of them. Like, I knew who all these people were,
- 20:39not only from the Olympics, the 1996 Olympics,
- 20:42but then also the start of the WNBA right after that.
- 20:46They were so fucking famous. So like, this idea that we've
- 20:50never seen superstardom of this caliber is not
- 20:54true. We haven't seen this level of like, of consistent
- 20:59coverage of the WNBA, but we've had stars like this.
- 21:03And like, we've had— and it was, it was It's
- 21:06interesting that the backlash now almost seems more sexist
- 21:11and misogynist than it was 25, 30 years ago. Like when
- 21:15I was a little kid, no, no fucking little boy was like, oh, Sheryl Swoopes
- 21:18is lame. They didn't. That's not the— that's not what it was.
- 21:22It's fucking embarrassing. Like, here's the thing. Like, I firmly believe,
- 21:25like, I apologize for what I said earlier because here's the thing. When I said
- 21:28that I feel like they can't protect it, these women don't need protection.
- 21:32Like the people they need protection from are the people
- 21:35that are saying they need to be protected. That's the weirdest fucking juxtaposition
- 21:40of this whole fucking— I mean, they need that. Well, they're creating a scenario where,
- 21:43where they are now getting in physical danger. Yeah, but that's not what—
- 21:46that's not like— they don't need to be protected from a fucking trans woman or
- 21:50from anybody. They can, they can ball and build their league just fine.
- 21:54Just fucking fine. But if you're going to— but what you really need to be
- 21:57protected from is straight white men, apparently. Apparently that is just the— that is just
- 22:01the way it goes. I— it's— but you know what, shout out to fucking Sheryl
- 22:04Swoopes, shout out to Lisa Leslie, shout out to these women who were famous as
- 22:07fuck as a kid that made me never even question that women's— that
- 22:12women— Mia Hamm on the soccer side, dude. Like, Mia Hamm was the most famous
- 22:16soccer— she might still be like the most famous American soccer player who's ever fucking
- 22:20lived. So like, I as a little girl— and then the gymnasts,
- 22:24how famous they were, as the, the figure skaters— as a little girl, I thought
- 22:27It would— like, it didn't occur to me that women couldn't be famous athletes.
- 22:31And I'm so— it's so regressive where we're at. So anyways,
- 22:35that's, you know, that's it for headline number 1. So let's get to the good
- 22:39news. Headline number 2: the Browns made a great announcement
- 22:43today. Deshaun Watson was named Browns QB1.
- 22:46He said this, uh, he, he— this
- 22:50comes after he said some bizarre shit about his fans. It was a really good
- 22:53press conference. It was a really good press conference. I really think he set himself
- 22:56up in a good way. I have no doubt that every fan in Cleveland's really
- 22:59excited about this upcoming season. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, uh, he won the competition
- 23:03with, uh, second-year player Shedeur Sanders that began in the offseason and stretched into the
- 23:07first 2 preseason games. Sanders will be Watson's backup. Uh,
- 23:12big news for Dylan Gabriel. Uh,
- 23:15Todd Monken— I'm gonna read what he said— took in the full body
- 23:19of work over the course of the offseason, to training camp, to the games,
- 23:21the joint practice, and ultimately felt like to start the season on the road.
- 23:24Deshaun gave us the best chance to move the ball and score points. I mean,
- 23:27that's what it's really about. He also said that this is not a week-to-week
- 23:31proposition. So, um, until it becomes week-to-week,
- 23:35it's not week-to-week. You and I both know it's absolutely fucking week-to-week when
- 23:39it comes to Deshaun Watson. Uh, the decision comes despite Watson's struggles
- 23:43in the second preseason game on Saturday, during which he completed 5 of 12
- 23:46passes for 35 yards and a pick over 4 second-half drives.
- 23:50The seats at Huntington Bank Field were half full, but the boos were pronounced.
- 23:55On Monday, Watson opened his press conference with a 2-minute statement
- 23:59in which he apologized for his postgame comments, in which he told
- 24:03the fans he found it disrespectful and that he did not believe it was about
- 24:07his performance but his personal stuff, which he
- 24:11wasn't going to comment on. He was going to keep that between his wife and
- 24:14his family. So we are at the most
- 24:19embarrassing Browns timeline in a lifetime of
- 24:22embarrassing Browns timelines. Cody, I did not know.
- 24:26I truly did not know the Browns could sink lower than the
- 24:30bar they'd set in hell. What's below hell? Is there something
- 24:34below hell? Because that's where the fucking Browns
- 24:38are. And the I saw— I
- 24:44don't know who said it, but someone said Browns fans got to just not
- 24:48go to these fucking games. True. It's got to be fucking done. When is enough
- 24:51enough? I'm hoping that this actually leads to a much bigger thing. For instance,
- 24:54I don't know if you've seen all the renderings of what the Browns and the
- 24:56Haslams are trying to get done with a publicly funded stadium. Yeah. Don't give them
- 25:00a fucking penny. By the way, they're worth $12 billion. Not a fucking penny.
- 25:03The fact that they put that out was so comical to me. I'm like,
- 25:07you want taxpayer money? For this shit? Like, you legitimately want the city
- 25:11of Cleveland to give the most loser-ass franchise in the history of the city?
- 25:14They think they can get away with it because of the fucking Baltimore move.
- 25:16They think that they'll do anything to keep the Browns. I, I,
- 25:19I think that Cleveland should do anything they can to get rid of the Haslams
- 25:23and the Browns. They should try to convince the Browns to move fucking again.
- 25:26That's honestly what they— the only recourse I feel like Cleveland has at
- 25:29this point. Call their fucking bluff. Just call their fucking bluff. Go ahead and fucking
- 25:33move out. We'll restart the Browns again with a fucking owner that's not—
- 25:37I mean, like, if It would have to be an America boycott. We could all
- 25:40come together. Don't move to our city. We're not paying for it. I can't stress
- 25:42this enough. I think everyone should boycott the Haslams, period, over this whole thing,
- 25:46because I have no doubt, despite what Todd Monken said, Todd Monken's never been an
- 25:50NFL head coach. He's been a head coach at Southern Miss. He's been in the
- 25:52NFL in peripheral. He's been very successful in his jobs that he's been in,
- 25:55but he's never been a head coach. So he had the pleasure of fucking— his
- 25:58last OC was as the OC of fucking Lamar Jackson. Lamar goddamn Jackson.
- 26:02Wow. So let's be real. What a fucking genius. He gets a lot of credit
- 26:05for a guy that was already an MVP. Before you even fucking step through the
- 26:08door. But that being said, okay, Todd Monken's had some success in his career.
- 26:11This is his first opportunity being a head coach. No question,
- 26:15no question in my mind was one of the questions during his interview
- 26:19process, will you start, uh, Deshaun Watson if we tell you to? And his
- 26:22answer was, well, I'm, I'm not going to get another fucking opportunity
- 26:26to be a head coach. The answer is yes. And look where we currently are,
- 26:29because Deshaun Watson sure as fuck didn't earn the job with his play. He sure
- 26:33as fuck didn't earn the job with his conduct off the field. He sure as
- 26:37hell hasn't earned the job with his health factor. He earned the job because somehow
- 26:40the Haslams made the dumbest business decision in the history of sports.
- 26:44The history of sports. There's been a lot of bad contracts
- 26:48out there in the history of sports. This is firmly the worst one that's ever
- 26:51taken place. And I'll tell you this much, Todd Monken definitely
- 26:56did not even make the decision on this announcement. What happened was the Haslams
- 27:00saw the backlash to what Deshaun Watson said after the preseason game
- 27:04on Saturday and said, we're doubling down, we're getting out from underneath this, we're not
- 27:08going to fucking do this anymore. We know Deshaun's going to be the starter this
- 27:11year because we decided it before the season. So they saw that and
- 27:15made Todd go out there and do it after all that.
- 27:19And that press conference with dick in his hand, like,
- 27:22I mean, truly embarrassing shit. Now,
- 27:26They have Shedeur Sanders. This isn't even a situation where they've
- 27:30got literally no option. Shedeur, young struggling
- 27:34rookie who did a couple impressive things as a rookie, who they,
- 27:37if they just invested in, could maybe be something.
- 27:41Maybe they refuse to do it. Okay,
- 27:45here's the thing. I've been reflecting on Deshaun a lot over the
- 27:49last couple of days. I've been talking about it a lot on the internet.
- 27:53We are coming up— we are basically at, like,
- 27:56right now, the 10-year anniversary of the first time that Colin
- 28:00Kaepernick decided to peacefully protest police brutality
- 28:06against Black people on an NFL sideline.
- 28:09He first started sitting, then he went to a Green Beret, had a discussion
- 28:13with him, and decided kneeling was the more respectful way to do it. Started kneeling.
- 28:17You know the fucking rest. Yes, I do.
- 28:20Here we are. Deshaun Watson has been named the starter of the Cleveland
- 28:25Browns 10 years later. Yes. Mocha, can you pull up a graphic
- 28:28for me? That graphic of Deshaun Watson and Colin
- 28:32Kaepernick. Okay. I want you guys to look at these
- 28:35numbers because these are the
- 28:39last 3 seasons that Colin Kaepernick ever played and the last
- 28:423 seasons that Deshaun Watson has played his 3— the
- 28:463 seasons that he was healthy enough to play for the Browns.
- 28:50Okay, so this is a tale of 2 3-season
- 28:54stretches. One quarterback played for 3 coaches in 3
- 28:58seasons. The other just got their first new head coach in his 5th
- 29:01season there. One quarterback played in 2 conference championship
- 29:05games and a Super Bowl when he was on a good team. The other
- 29:09never made a championship game when he was on a good team.
- 29:13One was blackballed out of the NFL after this for kneeling to
- 29:16protest police brutality against Black people. The other has 27
- 29:20allegations of sexual assault and was just named the starter. Now,
- 29:25though, which one do you think should have been fucking blackballed
- 29:29based on those numbers over their last 3 seasons?
- 29:33And which one should be the starter? I think we all know
- 29:36where the fuck I'm going with this.
- 29:41The time during, during the time of
- 29:44Colin Kaepernick's protest and then his, his ensuing blackballing,
- 29:49the argument was always he wasn't good enough to justify the distraction. He had injury
- 29:53issues and he was too controversial. The NFL was never going to allow it
- 29:57and he should have known that.
- 30:00It's almost like that was not— that was never really what it was fucking about,
- 30:03Cody, was it? Because if those were, if those were deal breakers if
- 30:08those were deal breakers— distraction, fucking character questions from the
- 30:11NFL, injury issues— Deshaun Watson
- 30:15wouldn't have a roster spot. They proved it to us with Colin Kaepernick,
- 30:18right? Yo, no, you're dead. So, so they have just fully—
- 30:22now we've always known, we've always known. Everybody who watches this show has
- 30:25always fucking known. Always. But to so obviously
- 30:29tell us, oh no, no, we didn't actually care about any of that No,
- 30:33Colin Kaepernick absolutely could have been a starter. Deshaun Watson could be a starter.
- 30:37It's just all about what we fucking care about and what we actually don't
- 30:41care about, which is sexually assaulting over a dozen women. All we care
- 30:44about in this weird-ass country at this point is culture war.
- 30:48I'm watching the culture war tick up again right now because we
- 30:52got an election in November and God forbid you pay attention to anything that's actually
- 30:55taking place in the world. No, it's trans athletes that are causing
- 30:59the problem in the world somehow. There are none, but their trans athletes
- 31:03are really causing the problem in the world. It's not the price of living,
- 31:06it's not the price of food, it's not that our food is now all of
- 31:09a sudden fucking killing us. It sure as hell is not a war that's causing
- 31:12gas prices and all the prices in the world, Colin. It's trans athletes,
- 31:16and that's a bigger problem. No, you can't, you can't protest anything
- 31:19that's taking place in the world, especially when it comes to, I don't know,
- 31:22ICE raids or anything like that, or brutality against any minorities
- 31:25in this country. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. No, no, that, that,
- 31:27that's where the problem actually is. That's anti-American. Actually, it's like
- 31:32the most American fucking thing you can actually do. But let's forget about that because
- 31:35nothing's more important than the fucking culture war for a bunch of
- 31:39fucking idiots. I had a lot of fun fucking deleting
- 31:42a lot of people from my social medias today. People that I had a
- 31:46feeling, but they went ahead and outed themselves anyways. This is over redacted.
- 31:50Oh yeah. We're like, I, I'm just, I am Blown the fuck away
- 31:56by what is mattering to certain people
- 31:59and how stupid they actually are. And what isn't mattering. Yeah,
- 32:03what doesn't matter to you is baffling to me.
- 32:06Like, I've said this to you before and I'll say it again. When people get
- 32:09mad at me, say to me, it was like, why are you getting mad?
- 32:12Why are you raising your voice? Why are you animated? Why the fuck
- 32:15aren't you? That's actually the real question. Why does none
- 32:19of this shit actually matter to you? Things in the world actually matter, but the
- 32:23things that fucking don't seem to be the things that stick in all your craws.
- 32:26And I don't get that, like, even remotely.
- 32:29I've said this months ago, I joke about it. I know I'm intelligent,
- 32:32but I don't think I'm that intelligent.
- 32:35Apparently, according to who I'm surrounded with on Earth, I'm a fucking
- 32:39genius, 'cause everyone's so fucking stupid. Well, emotional intelligence
- 32:43is really underrated. And, you know, when it comes to Deshaun
- 32:47Watson, the really difficult part of talking about it is that if
- 32:51I talk about the football, it's almost like, should I even be talking about the
- 32:54football? We shouldn't be talking about his football. He should not be in the league.
- 32:56But the football speaks for itself too. I don't care that he wasn't indicted.
- 32:59Oh my God. A guy with whose the majority of their accusers was
- 33:03Black women didn't get an indictment. I'm so fucking shocked.
- 33:07No way. I don't care that he didn't get indicted. I'm not asking you to
- 33:10put him in prison on no charges. I'm asking him to not be an NFL
- 33:12quarterback. That's literally it. But if we are going to talk about
- 33:16the football, Cody, I just showed you the fucking graphic. He's trash. He's been trash.
- 33:20He's been cooked. And it's not just because he's had injury
- 33:24issues. Certainly there could be a part of it that just like he's not
- 33:27coming back from those injuries. He also, but from,
- 33:31from very good sources that I trust, has no fucking work ethic.
- 33:35And he— the ego that he approaches these conversations with makes
- 33:39it very clear that he doesn't seem to think he has to work very hard
- 33:42for the things that he gets. And why would he? He assaulted 27 women
- 33:45and then got a $230 million guaranteed contract.
- 33:48A contract so rich and so egregious that the rest of the NFL colluded
- 33:53to make sure no other Black quarterback got it. All the fucking quarterbacks
- 33:57that get their asses handed to them time and time again while being fucking MVPs
- 34:00and Super Bowl contenders. And you're going to protect Deshaun Watson? I'm curious. Fuck you.
- 34:04I'm really curious, Tonya. There are— how many articles
- 34:08have come out from Browns camp about, about how problematic
- 34:12Deshaun Watson is? How many articles have you read? Couple.
- 34:16How many articles have you read about, uh, Jalen Hurts being problematic in the Eagles
- 34:19locker room? About 795. Yes. So,
- 34:24um, how about the shit? What the fuck? By the way,
- 34:27we have heard more shit about the character and the
- 34:30decision-making and the work ethic of,
- 34:35of Shedeur Sanders. Yes, we have. Oh, unquestionably.
- 34:38Than Deshaun Watson in the last 2 years. And Shador Sanders does nothing
- 34:42but just deliver fucking gems on the mic and be kind
- 34:46of a dingbat. Like, he's so nice. He's trying— like,
- 34:50he didn't know he was supposed to go out to the coin toss the other
- 34:52day. He was named captain by Todd Monken for the game, and he didn't know
- 34:55that. He was like— he thought it was just like kind of honorary. He didn't
- 34:58realize it. So he didn't go to the coin toss. Like, and he was joking
- 35:01about it with Adede Kinguwalla after the game, or at half, you know, during the
- 35:05second half when he was out of the game. He was like, yeah, that was—
- 35:07I, I guess I did, like, didn't really understand, but coach made me the captain
- 35:10and whatever. He's so like— these are the things that people are more
- 35:14mad about than fucking Deshaun Watson
- 35:20even saying the things that he said at the— like, you can tell
- 35:24who a leader is. He was saying— Shedeur was saying amazing things
- 35:28about his offensive line. He was saying that like, no matter what,
- 35:31things aren't always going to happen, and he doesn't dictate what happens for
- 35:34him in his time. He does not. That, that at the end of the day,
- 35:36like, if you think you're gonna dictate how things
- 35:39go for you and the time frame is going to happen for you, you're going
- 35:42to disappoint yourself. I mean, he's a really intelligent and like thoughtful
- 35:46kid, and it just drives me fucking nuts that the timeline
- 35:50we live in is this one. The only thing, Cody, the only thing that
- 35:54I will be positive about in this story is that I've
- 35:58not seen a single fucking person try to defend this. I've not seen a single
- 36:02fucking person. It's the only thing that seemingly we're all in agreement on. You know
- 36:05what I saw today? Dan Orlovsky going in on
- 36:09this decision. Really? Yeah. So like,
- 36:12I couldn't find even a nemesis to disagree with
- 36:16me on this. So like, look at you, Dan. I know. Protect our
- 36:19women. Good job. Well, also, you know, there's probably plenty of reasons
- 36:23that Dan Orlovsky might not like Deshaun Watson that aren't the right ones. Well,
- 36:26but we've seen the lists. Yeah, exactly. He's like, I'll excuse
- 36:3127 sexual assaults, but being a Black quarterback is the line I'm drawing.
- 36:35But like, at the end of the day, obviously he believes Shedeur Sanders should be
- 36:39starting. Everybody believes Shedeur Sanders should be starting. Deshaun Watson is
- 36:43a fucking joke. And so that's a— when we can reach consensus
- 36:47in a place where we never reach consensus as a sports media,
- 36:51that is like one tiny silver lining.
- 36:53And Todd Monken can say all he wants that Deshaun Watson
- 36:58is not going to be week to week. If that motherfucker is starting by week
- 37:008, I'll be shocked. I listen, it's,
- 37:03it's going to be interesting, to say the least, but not for the right reasons.
- 37:07It's like morbid curiosity at this point.
- 37:11And I didn't, you know, I was never like the biggest Shedeur Sanders fan,
- 37:14but like, this has weirdly turned me into one. Like, I'm like legitimately
- 37:19rooting for Shedeur Sanders. I want that dude to get released so bad. Let him
- 37:22go. Like, like the way that they are using
- 37:25him and not giving him the chance to do what he needs. Just let him
- 37:28go and then go back up a good quarterback. Mark Summers does make this point.
- 37:31And don't worry, as much as we're going all in on Deshaun Watson, which by
- 37:35the way, we all should go fucking way all in on Deshaun Watson. You are
- 37:38right. And we have said this multiple times. Watson didn't sign himself. You are right.
- 37:42Trust me. Fuck the Haslams. Fuck them. Fuck them. Fuck them. They're the fucking worst.
- 37:45Fuck them. That sort of goes without saying. We've talked about
- 37:49how shitty the contract is 4 million times. Yeah. We talked about the fact
- 37:53that the Oaters themselves were pissed about the actual deal. The Haslams
- 37:57screwed all the owners like into a situation where then they started colluding.
- 38:02Like, yeah, we spent a part of this show already talking about the Haslams.
- 38:05Let's make no question here. Like, these guys suck. These are— all these guys suck.
- 38:09We just talked about the fact that the Haslams are the ones starting Deshaun Watson.
- 38:12So like, yeah, obviously. Yeah. All right. Moving on
- 38:16to baseball. Our formerly—
- 38:20the aforementioned Rob Manfred. Headline number 3,
- 38:23amid MLB labor talks, says we want to play
- 38:27in 2027. Not exactly news, but let's get into exactly what he's talking
- 38:31about here. Yes. As MLB owners and the MLB Players Association
- 38:34continue negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement,
- 38:37the current CBA expires on December 1st.
- 38:40There are a lot of questions facing the sport, including the possibility of a work
- 38:43stoppage. We're meeting regularly, which is good, Manfred said,
- 38:47told ESPN during the Little League Classic. About the labor talks,
- 38:50said every week we've had days where we've met with the players. It's early,
- 38:54but we've got a lot of work to do and we're at it. Our goal
- 38:56is to make a deal. We know we want to make a deal. We know
- 38:59we want to play baseball next year. Dude, we fucking know. We're planning
- 39:03on playing baseball next year. Now that, that part's— that part,
- 39:06that part is the part I pulled me up a little bit. The rest makes
- 39:10sense. So owners' main goal in negotiations is to seek some sort
- 39:14of a salary cap system. The MLBPA, while arguing that overhauling the economic system
- 39:18is unnecessary, Would like to increase— would like increases to the minimum salary,
- 39:22less restriction to the luxury tax threshold, and further enhancements to the
- 39:26pre-arbitration bonus pool. Service time, the international draft,
- 39:29and TV revenue are other sticking points. Normal shit.
- 39:34I— we're planning on playing baseball next
- 39:38year. Listen, we're in the middle of a baseball season right now. Whatever negotiations
- 39:41they've got going, those aren't— those are not what the negotiations
- 39:45are going to look like at all by November. I don't need to tell you
- 39:47that, but I just wanted you to know that I know that because
- 39:51I am cool. You're cool. Cool chick.
- 39:55Cool chick, this Tanya Ray Fox. Uh, but tell the people a little bit about
- 39:58like what— why, you know, we have said very specifically that
- 40:02we don't believe that there will be baseball next year,
- 40:06or we at the very least we are going to miss some baseball next
- 40:10year. I think we're gonna get— I shit you not— like a 70 to 75
- 40:14game season. So you do think we'll get— I think we will get baseball.
- 40:16But I don't think it's going to be till summer. It's not going to be
- 40:19until July. I think it's going to be— I think it's going to be a
- 40:22long fucking wait is what I think it's going to be. Because if the owners
- 40:25are going to ram through the salary cap, which that's their goal, that's what their
- 40:28goal always is. Yeah. The good news, the good news is
- 40:32that some fans have wisened up. That's the good news. Okay. Because I have
- 40:36not enough. Okay. Not enough. Some fans have wisened up. I'm going
- 40:40to take a little bit of credit for that. We've been really riding this,
- 40:42riding this beat because it's been very difficult for the owners to keep trying to
- 40:46plow through these greedy players. It really is. Now,
- 40:50do I think the Players Association is fucking perfect?
- 40:53Goddamn no. No. Fuck no. But historically, they are the
- 40:57most respected PA. Unquestionably the most respected PA. They're the most powerful
- 41:01PA, and they're the PA that can actually cause actual change to their
- 41:04respective sport. Other PAs cannot do that. The NFLPA is never gonna touch the
- 41:08NFL, ever. They had their chance in 2010, they shit-fucked
- 41:12it, and they're never gonna get it back. Well, NFLPA leadership is always fucking the
- 41:16players, even in the PA. Yes. Like it's— or the leadership in the PA that
- 41:20are, that are player-based. Now make no mistake, I was in the PA and I
- 41:22firmly believe the Major League Baseball PA— and yes, I said the Major League
- 41:27Baseball, I'll say the MLB. Those of you that are sticklers on the MLB,
- 41:30shut the fuck up. They're also— you don't cover sports, so you actually don't get
- 41:34to decide who— how we say it. Yeah, that's the interesting part is that actually
- 41:37we're the ones who cover sports. He was in the MLB and I have
- 41:41actually covered the MLB, so it's interesting that you think you would be able to
- 41:44tell us that. That is true. The Major League Baseball Players Association, I firmly believe,
- 41:47has many times lost their way. I got into a shouting match. Well, I wouldn't
- 41:51say shouting match, but I got into a very— it was shouting. It was shouting.
- 41:54It was a stern conversation with Tony Clark, the former head of the PA,
- 41:57who's now disgraced with all his personal conduct. Yeah. And it was
- 42:01simply this. At the time, I felt like the PA had really lost their way
- 42:04because they were not caring about the players. They were caring about the rich players.
- 42:07And of course, they still very much care about the rich players and the richest
- 42:11players. But not nearly as bad as it was in, say, 2015 when I was
- 42:14with the Royals straight after they won the World Series. We had a whole meeting
- 42:17with— sorry, not with Rob Manfred, with Tony Clark, where he
- 42:21was going over a lot of things. And there were some issues in there that
- 42:24I firmly agreed with. One, they were really against— specifically,
- 42:27they were terrified at the time of wearable technology. The Players Association's
- 42:32biggest fear at the time was wearable technology. And I understood why. There were certain
- 42:35phrases that were going, being put through baseball media, oh, they— we like low heart
- 42:40rate guys. And I remember saying, that's not a phrase. Where the fuck that phrase
- 42:42come from? Why are you talking about heart rates? Heart rates all of a sudden
- 42:46is not a thing that people talk about. They were talking about it because they
- 42:48wanted to get the players' heart rates so they can start fucking using it against
- 42:52them in arbitration. I understood them trying to keep Major League Baseball
- 42:56from like hiding wearable tech in jerseys, which was a legitimate fear
- 43:00at the time. Now, that being said, I think the technology on the field is
- 43:03already that already dead because I'm pretty sure they have our heart rates on the
- 43:07field now based on the technology they just have out there at this point.
- 43:10That being said, I agreed with that, but the rest was all about
- 43:13player comforts and that really concerned me. The fact they were like,
- 43:17yeah, we want to make sure we have a chef in every single clubhouse.
- 43:19We want to make sure you have this. Meanwhile, meanwhile, meanwhile,
- 43:23minor league players can't afford like homes.
- 43:26Yeah, I had just got to the big leagues,
- 43:29like just got to the big leagues after 7 years of toiling away. I broke
- 43:33every offensive record the San Diego Padres had. I asked for my release
- 43:38on almost a weekly fucking basis because they wouldn't promote me.
- 43:41And at that point, they stopped playing me at whatever respective level I
- 43:45was at. They would get another prospect, they would start playing him, he would underperform
- 43:47and get hurt. I'd go back in and I'd break more records, and then they
- 43:50wouldn't call me up every single September. It was a fucking nightmare. I couldn't
- 43:53afford to live. I had to live out of my Honda Element for 2 separate
- 43:57seasons, both of which I was in AAA for. Um, it was a
- 44:01nightmare. Uh, salary in the minor league baseball didn't go up
- 44:05for 70 fucking years while,
- 44:08while the American inflation had gone up over 400%.
- 44:12Salaries in minor league baseball had only gone up like 50%.
- 44:16And didn't— now recently the Minor
- 44:20League Players Association has become— has been
- 44:24brought in to almost like not absorbed, but like now negotiates,
- 44:29uh, within the umbrella of the MLBPA. So that's a massive
- 44:33upgrade, right? And those players are getting paid a slightly better salary,
- 44:36right? A livable wage. But they have their own CBA, am I not— is that
- 44:40correct? Or is it minor leagues? No, it's kind of their own. Do they negotiate
- 44:44their own stuff, or are they part of the— now they're part of the negotiation,
- 44:47everything, MLBPA. So, but I do like that because this,
- 44:51in this current CBA negotiation, they will have a voice
- 44:55that you guys didn't necessarily previously have as minor league players because
- 45:00it was a separate negotiation before. Agreed. But here's the thing, getting back to the
- 45:03point of talking to Tony Clark, in that— in that talk, after we were done
- 45:06with that entire thing where he spent, I shit you not, 20 minutes
- 45:11call— uh, talking about specifically Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas, how they don't need to
- 45:15sign so many autographs unless they're being compensated, and I'm sitting here going like,
- 45:18are you fucking kidding me? Are you— I lived in my fucking car last year.
- 45:22Wait, Eric Hosmer was worried about how many autographs he was signing? Eric was not.
- 45:26It was Tony Clark. I apologize if I made this sound like— I like Eric
- 45:29Hosmer. I like Eric too. Uh, I apologize. Eric, Eric was
- 45:33not a part of this conversation. He was just in the room. Justice for Moose.
- 45:37They were just in the room. He was using them as examples. Yeah. And I
- 45:41remember afterwards I went right up to him like, Tony, what the fuck? Like,
- 45:44they're like I'm not protected. I'm in the union right now, but my contract
- 45:48right now is not guaranteed. If these guys send me down, decide to release me,
- 45:50I'm fucked. I don't have health insurance, I don't have anything, and I'm just dead
- 45:54in the water, and you guys aren't protecting me. When are you gonna protect me?
- 45:57Like, I'm in— I've paid these dues both literally and fucking
- 46:01figuratively, and figuratively in fucking buckets
- 46:05and buckets and buckets, more than anyone in that clubhouse at that exact time.
- 46:09And I'll never forget what Tony Clark fucking said to me.
- 46:12And I'll never forget my response to him. He just looked at me, he's like,
- 46:15well, Deck, you gotta understand, man, you were never supposed to make it.
- 46:18And I just fucking stared at him for what, what felt— it must have been
- 46:213 seconds, but in my mind it was an hour. I just
- 46:25stared at him and I wanted to fucking punch him. I just stared at him
- 46:28like, I don't know what question you
- 46:32thought I just asked you, but that sure as fuck was not an answer to
- 46:35the question I just asked. Do I need to ask the question again? And he
- 46:38kind of stepped back because he— I think he was a little scared that I
- 46:40fucking was ready to fucking kill him. He's like, well,
- 46:43no, no, it's just— to be honest, it's just not in the cards right now.
- 46:46I said, well, I'm not protected, that guy's not protected,
- 46:49and there's a room of 250 fucking minor leaguers in that room who actually
- 46:54need your protection. You know who doesn't need your fucking protection? Eric Hosmer signing
- 46:58fucking autographs. Again, this has nothing to do with Eric Hosmer. Eric Hosmer was
- 47:01a good teammate and he was just being used as example by Tony Clark,
- 47:04right? I, I can't stress this enough.
- 47:07The PA has lost their way many times, but the PA is needed. The PA
- 47:11is desperately needed. And the PA right now seems like they're as together
- 47:15as they can be considering the fact that the Tony Clark ousting recently— well,
- 47:19they have bigger fish to fry than autographs now. And so sometimes
- 47:22that's better for a PA, I hope, because what you're talking about and
- 47:26the, and the negotiations that you're talking about are the kind of bullshit
- 47:29that PAs get into when the league is resting on its laurels,
- 47:33when everything feels good and comfy. When you aren't fighting against a salary cap,
- 47:37you do start to focus on player luxuries and ignoring the fucking minor league players.
- 47:42The— this is the kind of thing that kicks people into high gear and they
- 47:46have a reputation to uphold. And the reality is, Cody, that what happens
- 47:49with the MLBPA, and I think we've said it on this show,
- 47:52but if we haven't, let's say it again, has ramifications
- 47:56across not only sports unions, but unions in the
- 48:00United States. Completely in ways that people don't fully understand.
- 48:04So, you know, I don't know if they fully understand
- 48:09that. I don't know if they fully feel that weight, but they should because
- 48:13they are the gold standard for sports league
- 48:17player unions. And them
- 48:22caving causes a ripple effect that I'm not
- 48:25sure team sports in the United States
- 48:30or unions in the United States are ready for quite frankly. Clay asks the question,
- 48:32and here's the truth. The truth is, I do not know for sure this answer,
- 48:36but I think because the minor league union has been brought
- 48:40into the Major League Baseball union, your question, would minor league baseball happen
- 48:44if there is a lockout based on, on how it's currently working?
- 48:47I believe no, no, I believe not at all. But I also want to point
- 48:51out there was a slight darkness to the minor leaguers being brought into the
- 48:55Major League Baseball PA. This was right after multiple levels of minor league
- 48:59baseball had been cut. Lots of jobs lost. Lots of cities, lots of small towns
- 49:03lost their— when was this? Economies.
- 49:052021. Yeah, it was recent. Yeah. Like, I didn't know that.
- 49:09Oh, yeah. Yeah. They cut out whole leagues out of minor league baseball.
- 49:13So now there are less minor league baseball jobs available and Major League Baseball
- 49:17wants to cut more. And what they need to be doing is keeping who's
- 49:21there and paying them more. So this is— I mean, Jesus Christ. Like,
- 49:25I don't think you guys understand. If you look at the league revenue
- 49:29of the— of Major League Baseball, if you look at Major League Baseball revenue,
- 49:33it is on par with every single
- 49:37major league in the world outside of the NFL and to some extent the NBA,
- 49:41though they are fairly competitive in league revenue with the NBA. Yes,
- 49:45they are. They are like everybody who thinks like, oh, the Premier League, La Liga,
- 49:49fucking, you know, whatever, Hong Kong racing or,
- 49:52you know, cricket. No, Major League Baseball revenue is
- 49:57a worldwide— is like top 5 worldwide leader type revenue.
- 50:01We're— we're— this is fucking crazy. Major League Baseball is booming right now.
- 50:05Like, Major League Baseball is in arguably the biggest boom.
- 50:08It's like, yeah, it's been for years. Yeah, but like right now we're in one
- 50:11of the biggest booms in baseball history. So like all of
- 50:15this disingenuous shit that we can't afford this, and I— you got to hand it
- 50:19to Major League Baseball that they've created a new fucking boogeyman man. No, it's not
- 50:22the players anymore. It's the Dodgers that's really causing all the problems. We have
- 50:25developed quite a, like, an ESPN situation
- 50:29because the next part of this story that I was just
- 50:34pulling up while you were speaking is the boogeyman, the Dodgers, and what has now
- 50:38happened with them potentially losing leverage.
- 50:41You know, this whole thing that's happening with Mark Walter, the owner of the Dodgers,
- 50:45and sort of dissolving the tension and the scariness of
- 50:49the Dodgers works against the MLB
- 50:53owners big time. It works against the league big time. And that's
- 50:57why I wanted to sort of transition into that part of the story, because a
- 51:01lot of this was being pinned on the Dodgers. So we can't compete against the
- 51:04Dodgers. We can't do this. We can't do that. We need a salary cap.
- 51:06How are we supposed to compete against the Dodgers? Now, we've already broken that down,
- 51:09guys. Go look up the fucking— there's a ton of stuff on us. Like,
- 51:13learn how to use Google. You Google our show and that particular
- 51:17segment. Guarding, like, share, and subscribe, this stuff, you will find it. But the
- 51:21reality is that the Mark Walter stuff is getting more and more shady the longer
- 51:25that it goes on. Um, he was supposedly,
- 51:28you know, gonna make a massive windfall in the sale
- 51:32of the Lakers. That whole thing's a disaster.
- 51:36Holy shit. Here's the— that's a whole disaster that you and I haven't
- 51:40even discussed. Like, you have to understand, like, that sale to the Lakers, which by
- 51:43the way is a— the last I checked, Jeanie Buss is still not letting
- 51:47it happen. As of now, is not letting the final 17% go.
- 51:51Yeah, I don't know what kind of legal recourse she has. Apparently, according to the
- 51:55lawyers, she does. So I'm looking forward to seeing fucking Succession season 5 right now.
- 51:59She's just— if she's just doing it to fuck with her brothers at this point,
- 52:02I wouldn't blame her. I mean, listen, Jeanie's made a ton of mistakes lately,
- 52:05and I don't think she's a fucking savior by any means, but it— like,
- 52:08fuck those brothers. Oh, completely. This is such a hostile takeover.
- 52:11Like, this was Legitimately a hostile takeover. Um, but it's
- 52:15just amazing that the Laker sale has opened the biggest
- 52:19fucking Pandora's box to all of the bullshit. He was under
- 52:23investigation and no one was talking shit about it. He was already under investigation,
- 52:25but nobody was worried about it. But the moment he sold that
- 52:29team to the fucking president's son-in-law's brother,
- 52:33fucking everything got opened. Everybody's eyes.
- 52:36And now we're into— in a borderline shitstorm for the Los Angeles
- 52:41Dodgers. And, and the— and if you are a fan of maintaining a,
- 52:45uh, the, the free market of baseball the way as it's constituted
- 52:49without a salary cap, you kind of have to root against the Dodgers
- 52:52here. You kind of have to root for this fucking ownership to fall apart because
- 52:57they were massive. The MLB and the owners were masterfully
- 53:02using them as the great boogeyman to try to to
- 53:06force in their salary cap. And without that leverage,
- 53:10both with fans and with the players,
- 53:13that's a big fucking blow to their argument. And if
- 53:17Mark Walter sells, if he's forced to sell the Dodgers,
- 53:21I promise people keep telling me, oh, Shohei won't leave. Shohei won't leave.
- 53:24Why would Shohei have built in a part of his fucking
- 53:28contract that if the team sells, he has an out? If he didn't plan on
- 53:32leaving, if Shohei's played for one of the worst owners in professional
- 53:36sports already, he's not doing it again. No, he's not. There are plenty of MLB
- 53:40teams still available with some decent ownership. I promise you, he's fucking gone.
- 53:44Toronto is owned by the Rogers Corporation. Yeah, the Rogers Corporation will
- 53:49make Shohei Ohtani a co-owner of the Rogers Corporation.
- 53:52I promise you, get his ass over to Toronto. He will be gone.
- 53:56My fucking heartbeat. So I mean, you know, I hate that for my— for
- 54:00my Dodgers fans. I hate that for everybody, like, because I actually really like
- 54:04local Los Angeles Dodgers fans, um, mostly the Mexican
- 54:09ones. Oh, they're the best. They're the fucking best. Yeah, like, I don't like white
- 54:11guys in general, so like, you know, whatever. We are not— I got a few
- 54:15of them. I got a few of them I like. You got me. Um,
- 54:18that's about it. But like, yeah, that mostly, you know,
- 54:21I really do enjoy a Dodgers game. I think it's a fun crowd,
- 54:25and I think that they're the best fans in Los Angeles. I think Dodgers fans
- 54:29are the most, like, real fan base
- 54:33in Los Angeles of all the pro team sports.
- 54:36And this might have to go real poorly
- 54:40for the Dodgers in order for it to work out for baseball. It might.
- 54:41And that's, that's an unfortunate thing because I do think Dodgers going deep in baseball
- 54:45is better for baseball and better for fans because it is the best product on
- 54:48the field, unquestionably. But man,
- 54:50it's This is, this is going to be an interesting couple of months, especially,
- 54:54and it's going to be an eye-opening couple of months, especially as we get closer
- 54:57to this deadline. When it comes down to the December 1st deadline
- 55:00of the CBA, I'm telling you, there is
- 55:04going to be a lot of things around the Walter investigation that's going to be
- 55:08fascinating. And I'm interested to see how the PA is going to play this.
- 55:11If there's one thing I know about Mr. Weiner, that, that motherfucker don't
- 55:16play. Okay. He is a bulldog attorney. If we see
- 55:19it as a potential opening for negotiation, then he certainly does. Well, here's the thing.
- 55:23If there's one thing that I've taken away from what Rob Manfred said about how
- 55:25we are negotiating, that it tells me that their big bad wolf,
- 55:29the Dodgers, and all of the shit that's going on, they see the blood in
- 55:32the water for themselves. Like, shit, our big bad wolf just outed
- 55:37themselves as a bit in sheep's clothing. We got a big problem
- 55:41because now the, the fucking bazooka we just handed the Players Association
- 55:45might be the thing that kills us. Yeah. I mean, like, let our owners,
- 55:48like the Dodgers owner, do more fraud and pay you less.
- 55:52Is probably not going to be a great selling point in negotiations. Uh,
- 55:55Maria KR is completely right over here. Uh, I love Maria.
- 55:59This was the— basically Mark Walter just Streisand-affected
- 56:03this entire situation by selling the fucking Lakers.
- 56:07You know what, that is a fucking good point.
- 56:10That is fucking a great point. This whole thing is
- 56:14a Streisand effect. He fucking made— he made himself a story. He needed the
- 56:18money, and I get why he did it. It. But she's right that like,
- 56:21that's exactly what ended up happening was like, you actually probably should have just kept
- 56:25low-key doing your fraud and owning the Lakers because this was way worse for
- 56:29you. And by the way, from what I understand, and correct me if I'm wrong
- 56:32so far because I am not great when it comes to these things, but based
- 56:36on the legality of the entire situation, based on what's being reported right now,
- 56:40the, the paying yourself off with the insurance company that you own
- 56:44technically technically isn't illegal,
- 56:47but the inflation of certain assets
- 56:51is absolutely illegal, and that's where
- 56:55the problem currently lies. So this is going to be a very— I
- 56:58truly don't know what's gonna fucking happen, but I can guess. And,
- 57:02and just so we're clear, when we're talking about billionaires and we start getting into
- 57:05technically it's not illegal, I promise you there's a bunch of
- 57:09shit in there that's illegal. Oh, this always goes— yeah, the things I'm saying are
- 57:11technically not illegal, Also should be illegal. And also,
- 57:15like, there's a lot of ways that people are doing it where it's like within
- 57:18the scope of what it was meant to do, and it's never billionaires doing it.
- 57:22100%. Headline 4 before we move into Media Corner real quick.
- 57:26Cody, it's been a hell of a preseason for the 49ers. What a time to
- 57:30be a Niners fan. What a time to be a fucking Niners fan. I got
- 57:33to talk to my girlfriend. She's a Niner fan. Is she okay? I don't think
- 57:36so. I don't think any of them are okay. This is nuts. Um,
- 57:40this is— there's not a ton to say about this, but I am not
- 57:43going to be a segment of the media that's not talking about this because believe
- 57:47me, the mainstream media tried to avoid it today. Oh dude, oh shit,
- 57:50did they ever. Oh my God, did they ever. Nobody wants to talk about the
- 57:54owner of the 49ers, but we fucking sure as shit are. Jed York,
- 57:58the owner of the 49ers, was arrested on suspicion of engaging
- 58:01in prostitution near his family's home in Ohio, uh, where he's from,
- 58:04by the way. Victimless crimes, Tanya. Before pleading no
- 58:09contest to lesser charges on Monday. By the way, I thought,
- 58:13just so we're all clear, I thought the story was he got
- 58:18a hooker at a trailer park. Right. That's what I thought the story was.
- 58:21Right. Tanya, continue. Yes.
- 58:25Well, it's, it's pretty confusing because the court records
- 58:29show that York was initially arrested Sunday morning in East Palestine, Ohio,
- 58:33And on suspicion of engaging in prostitution.
- 58:37Yes. And disorderly conduct. So engaging in prostitution means you
- 58:41are the prostitute, which I did not know. I didn't
- 58:45know. What? Jake York's a hooker? I guess. I think
- 58:49he was released on $5,000 bail. Records show the prostitution
- 58:53charge was amended to a charge of possessing criminal
- 58:56tools as part of York's plea agreement. Listen,
- 58:59Cody and I, we'll be, we'll be honest, we had to Google what possessing
- 59:04criminal tools— no idea what that meant. Uh, it's what you think it is.
- 59:07It's literally possessing some stuff you could do crimes with, which is very vague,
- 59:11and it might just be an Ohio thing. Ohio has the stupidest laws. I fucking
- 59:14hate it. It could just be like— and apologies for the crudeness— it could just
- 59:18be he was just armed with dildos. Yeah, I don't— I don't know, maybe.
- 59:21I think duct tape was one of the things that was on the list.
- 59:23So holy shit, really? Uh, the record says standard lovemaking
- 59:27equipment. Yeah, the records did not provide details about the crime.
- 59:30I don't know if the crime actually happened because this was a sting. I'm so
- 59:33confused. The California Post reported that York responded to an advertisement
- 59:37on a prostitution website and arranged for a
- 59:41$140 sexual encounter. So this makes it
- 59:45sound like he paid $140 for a sexual encounter, but he
- 59:49still was charged with actual prostitution. So I don't—
- 59:52I, I'm, I'm revealing that I have not taken out— I have not engaged
- 59:56in this kind of solicitation personally, so I don't know how this works. But York
- 1:00:00was arrested after he arrived at the mobile home park in East Palestine, the Post
- 1:00:03reported, and was taken into custody by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force
- 1:00:07as part of a sting operation. Uh, just as a side note,
- 1:00:10he filed for divorce from his wife of more than 15 years in May due
- 1:00:14to irreconcilable differences. Um, the dissolution of the marriage case
- 1:00:18was pending as the couple awaits a court date right
- 1:00:22now. And they currently have a legal and physical joint custody agreement
- 1:00:26with their 2 children, ages 13 and 10. The separation of property has not
- 1:00:30yet been determined— property and assets. So,
- 1:00:33woof. Um, here's the thing. I'm just confused.
- 1:00:36Here's the thing. You and I are on the record for past NFL
- 1:00:40stories. We don't actually care what anyone's fucking
- 1:00:44doing in their consenting sexual lives. I do not give a shit. That's not
- 1:00:48my business. I am not personally offended, uh,
- 1:00:51by like, you know, if somebody
- 1:00:54wants to engage in sex work, I think that
- 1:00:58there's a lot of conversation around that that's really not helpful to men or
- 1:01:02women or trans women or trans men who are sex workers. I would agree
- 1:01:06with that. That being said, before you guys start saying, are you talking out of
- 1:01:08both sides of your mouth about Deshaun Watson? No, we are not. He wasn't soliciting
- 1:01:12sex workers. Continue. Also, you can still rape
- 1:01:16a sex worker. Yes, you can. I think we need to all be clear that
- 1:01:18sex work is not being sexually assaulted. No, it's not.
- 1:01:21If you don't know the difference, you're probably— you've probably sexually assaulted someone
- 1:01:25and you might want to reflect. So there's
- 1:01:29not a ton of judgment on my end if
- 1:01:32he was doing sex work. I don't know what I'm
- 1:01:37supposed to like. Why is the owner of the 49ers being hired for sex work
- 1:01:40for $150 million? $40. Well, obviously the part— like, if he
- 1:01:44was the actual sex worker, it would be a kink
- 1:01:48thing, right? Like, obviously that's— it's a kink. So like, I feel bad for kink-shaming
- 1:01:51anybody, but no. And that's all— it's obviously not for the money. Um,
- 1:01:54and again, I don't really mind this, like, but like, all of
- 1:01:58it is a little bit alarming. And if he was engaging in it in terms—
- 1:02:02or if he was soliciting someone to be a sex worker for him,
- 1:02:07I just like, as a, as a man going through
- 1:02:10a divorce and everything else with his level of high profile, whatever else,
- 1:02:13like, you know, not a huge fan
- 1:02:17because you're just setting yourself up for failure. You are. But I'm not the
- 1:02:20big— like, the biggest issue I've ever had with Jed York is that, like,
- 1:02:24he has no idea what's going on with his team. And now I'm starting— and
- 1:02:28now I'm like, wait, maybe I know why. So originally Jed York was overly involved
- 1:02:32with the 49ers, and he took a step back when he hired John Lynch.
- 1:02:35Yeah. And was like, I'm just basically going to fucking completely step away, let you
- 1:02:39deal with the business to the point where he didn't even know that they like
- 1:02:43acquired a player. I can't even remember who the player was, but he was like
- 1:02:45at the owners meetings and he was like, we got who? Real quick.
- 1:02:48Oh yeah. I just want to point out a really funny comment. Please do.
- 1:02:51Please do. Meg Guilford says,
- 1:02:55oh, Meg Guilford. Yeah, Meg, great stuff here. I want him to
- 1:03:00value himself more than $140. I'm saying I actually agree.
- 1:03:03I actually The way you're actually describing this to me,
- 1:03:07I didn't expect myself to— I didn't expect myself
- 1:03:10to walk away from this kind of feeling bad for Jed York. Well, so we
- 1:03:14don't have enough details. Like, we don't, because when they say that he possessed something,
- 1:03:17I'm like, I mean, I hope that he wasn't, you know, obviously didn't have ill
- 1:03:20intentions. And if he did have ill intentions for someone, then obviously this changes
- 1:03:24everything. We can only go off of what we know. But if he was just
- 1:03:27asking for— if he was just trying to do a little exchange and
- 1:03:31he was gonna perform for somebody. I agree, Meg.
- 1:03:35You know, at least get— hey, like, get it. You own the Niners. Get a
- 1:03:38cool $600, $700. Yeah, like, you're on the Niners. Like, yeah,
- 1:03:42you're worth something. Yeah, walk in there. Do you know who I am? I,
- 1:03:45yeah, I've been like, you know, you are— you are getting the owner of the
- 1:03:49Niners. Maybe, maybe he's just working on his performance and thought,
- 1:03:53you know what, I'm not quite worth more money yet. That might make sense,
- 1:03:56you know, because you gotta He was like, yeah, he was like, I have to
- 1:03:59actually get my skills back up after, uh, the divorce. So maybe that was part
- 1:04:03of it. But like, Jed York, really bizarre owner over
- 1:04:07the last— like, especially considering how high-profile the 49ers are, he is like
- 1:04:11one of the more, uh, low-key, we don't hear from him type owners.
- 1:04:15I mean, you know, like, when was the last time you talked about Jed York?
- 1:04:18You're like, we don't fucking talk about him because he stepped away from
- 1:04:21day-to-day operations for a reason.
- 1:04:25So anyway, bizarre story. Very bizarre. Keep an
- 1:04:29eye on it, please. Definitely. You know, when you are— I think
- 1:04:33that there are certain stories that like I would actually be like, I actually don't
- 1:04:35need to cover it with a certain type of person of
- 1:04:39a certain level of power in the United States. If you're a billionaire who owns
- 1:04:43an NFL team and something like this happens, it is deeply newsworthy whether
- 1:04:48or not we like dissect what was going
- 1:04:52on without a full knowledge of the situation. We can only do so
- 1:04:56much. Obviously you and I are having a little bit of fun with it,
- 1:04:58as we have the right to do. But, um,
- 1:05:01you know, definitely worth talking about. Definitely worth talking about.
- 1:05:04Uh, but like at the end of the day, I just— weirdly,
- 1:05:08yeah, I hope everyone's kind of okay. If this
- 1:05:12was just him being hired or hiring 2
- 1:05:16people for an interaction that was like consensual on
- 1:05:19both sides, I generally, as long as
- 1:05:23the other person wasn't being trafficked— the human trafficking thing is very tough because the
- 1:05:28police love to call everything that sex workers do consensually human trafficking.
- 1:05:32So it gets really sketchy. It gets very— but there's ways that I don't care
- 1:05:36about this, and there's ways where— and I care about this— there's ways where this
- 1:05:39does not bother me. Yes. Um, beyond, you know, what bothers me
- 1:05:43more is that he's a billionaire, quite honestly, not that he's doing this. Yeah.
- 1:05:45Um, But if it's, you know, like considering what we know
- 1:05:49Robert Kraft was up to, um, and what that,
- 1:05:53that situation actually was, that was actually very like,
- 1:05:58you know, again, there's, there's some questions
- 1:06:02around that of like whether or not those women are allowed to do what they
- 1:06:04want to do for their money too. I, again, but Robert
- 1:06:08Kraft, Robert Kraft was caught on camera doing,
- 1:06:12you know, so there's like, there's a ton of this shit within these fucking owners.
- 1:06:15Like, obviously these owners are up to shit. So I, I don't know.
- 1:06:19I don't know. But at the end of the day, if he was
- 1:06:22the one doing it, that's,
- 1:06:26that's actually— I got nothing. I'm just actually kind of
- 1:06:30like, that's actually— do I respect him?
- 1:06:34I don't know. I'm just going to wait to find out. Yeah,
- 1:06:37I'm going to wait to find out. Yeah. Let's not get ourselves in trouble.
- 1:06:40Yeah. I'm gonna hold off for the time being.
- 1:06:44Dude, you look so tan in the monitor. Oh, well, you know what? I don't
- 1:06:47know if you heard of this. I was in Hawaii. I know, we're gonna talk
- 1:06:50about it during a goddamn hurricane. I just realized how tan you look. I mean,
- 1:06:52you're in a little bit of a— of the dark, but still. Um,
- 1:06:55speaking of things, uh, calling out reporters and what they are and aren't talking
- 1:06:59about, Media Corner. You know we love to talk about this. We are into Media
- 1:07:03Corner. Let's fucking go. Uh, so ESPN
- 1:07:09and FS1 did not cover the Jed York story today.
- 1:07:12Now, no way. Now, based on you and I's conversation just now,
- 1:07:15I'm not surprised that they didn't. No way. Pretty interesting. But,
- 1:07:19um, something that was called out recently was
- 1:07:24it was reported sort of out of context
- 1:07:27and, and not, uh, at the will of the family that defensive tackle
- 1:07:32Ed Oliver and his family were mourning the tragic death
- 1:07:35of his 2-year-old son in a drowning that occurred in a residential swimming
- 1:07:39pool in Texas in June. I heard about that. So Jeff Pearlman
- 1:07:44called out the reporter's lack of professionalism over,
- 1:07:48uh, breaking this news, calling him a total piece of shit. And you
- 1:07:52and I have talked a lot about, uh, what ESPN
- 1:07:56and these big companies will avoid reporting. We've talked about Adam Schefter not
- 1:08:00reporting on Kyle Shanahan, didn't report on Jed York today.
- 1:08:04And what they will— I still don't know anything about the Kyle Shanahan thing,
- 1:08:06by the way, still to this day. What they will decide not to talk about
- 1:08:09or how they'll frame certain stories. Um, but there's another side of the coin,
- 1:08:13which for people who've been to journalism school,
- 1:08:16like, understand that there's like a pretty specific difficult thing
- 1:08:20to navigate, which is like when to decide
- 1:08:24to like to hold back information or to not report
- 1:08:27something that you know because it's not in the public interest, and it's,
- 1:08:30um, private information that a family deserves to share themselves.
- 1:08:34But you think the Eric B. Anime thing, uh, deserved to be shared?
- 1:08:38You know, I actually don't. Me neither. I actually
- 1:08:42don't. Um, but I think that,
- 1:08:46you know, it, it's difficult when someone
- 1:08:50is that high profile and you're talking about like 2
- 1:08:53adults, right? Yeah. But then, but then we go look back at the Kyle Shanahan
- 1:08:57thing. Well, we still know nothing. Oh yeah. Well, that's what we knew.
- 1:08:58Eric any story. That pisses me off so
- 1:09:03much. Yeah, like, it's just— it's— geez, what is the difference between these two?
- 1:09:07Yeah. Um, while many of the details of the tragedy were known to local
- 1:09:11and NFL media report, uh, members, there was an understanding
- 1:09:14rooted in journalistic ethics that it wasn't a story worth breaking before
- 1:09:19Oliver and his family had the opportunity to make their own announcement.
- 1:09:23That changed Friday night when Tony Farmer, a self-described
- 1:09:27sleuth who has been offering obsessive coverage of
- 1:09:31NFL-related stories he feels are not being fully reported, decided to break
- 1:09:35the story. He also shared video from the evening and seemingly
- 1:09:39admonished several Buffalo media members for knowing about the
- 1:09:42news but not reporting it. According to ESPN, the Bills had been aware
- 1:09:46of the incident since June, and they and Oliver were in alignment
- 1:09:50on revealing what happened to his son, who was also named Ed. At this
- 1:09:54time. However, once the news was out, the franchise was
- 1:09:57forced to issue a statement confirming it and offer its full support to
- 1:10:01Oliver. The way the story became public did not sit well with a lot of
- 1:10:04people in media and NFL circles, including Josh Allen, Bills quarterback,
- 1:10:08who said, it's very sad how it came out. It makes me really
- 1:10:12sad and angry at the same time. Yeah, it's really— it's— listen,
- 1:10:15as a guy that doesn't have children,
- 1:10:19I can only imagine. Like, I, I can only imagine, period.
- 1:10:23This entire thing has made me very sick. Yeah. Uh, I, I actually
- 1:10:27want to give credit to Jeff Pearlman. Uh, you know, I've known Jeff a little
- 1:10:30bit over the years, and I've had nothing but good, good encounters with
- 1:10:34Jeff and good conversations with Jeff. I've had him on a lot of my shows.
- 1:10:38Um, this— I like— I also like Jeff. I mean,
- 1:10:41I, you know, occasionally Jeff goes rogue, whatever, but Jeff will also reel
- 1:10:45himself back in. He'll apologize. Like, I think he's one of people who really feels
- 1:10:48things, and that's very clear. And this particular story really
- 1:10:52just really— I don't know, it kind of hit me a little bit.
- 1:10:55Yeah, like it really— I don't know why it bothered me so much, but it
- 1:10:59legitimately did. Well, I think that like, you know, we got a lot of
- 1:11:03comments when we talked about the Kyle Shanahan thing where people were like, why is
- 1:11:06it our business? Why is it our business if he got in a car accident?
- 1:11:09Why is it whatever? And the reality is it's our business because he is an
- 1:11:12extremely high-profile person in charge of an NFL team
- 1:11:17and it is going to affect his health entering the NFL season. And he was
- 1:11:21involved directly in an incident that affected somebody else.
- 1:11:24Yes. That's why it's our business. Now,
- 1:11:28these are very tight, specific journalistic questions you have
- 1:11:32to ask yourself. And Jenna Lane from ESPN, who covers
- 1:11:36the Bills, wrote a little bit about it. I clipped a segment here from
- 1:11:40Twitter where she wrote, that as a journalist, certainly stories arise that ask
- 1:11:45more of you. That doesn't mean being less of a journalist, but it does mean
- 1:11:47exercising more care, more discernment, more grace, and having
- 1:11:51more conversation with those who have handled these situations
- 1:11:54before, leaning on local law enforcement and also leaning
- 1:11:57on team communication staff members who understand you have a job to do but will
- 1:12:00also be straight with you and even push back at times. The threshold for
- 1:12:04reporting on a death is quite high for most news outlets, in that confirmation must
- 1:12:08come in the form of a statement from police, a coroner, the family,
- 1:12:12or the team. She said that in covering Shaq Barrett's family
- 1:12:15tragedy in 2023, in which their 2-year-old daughter,
- 1:12:19Aria, drowned in the family's pool, we spoke to police
- 1:12:23and the team who both issued statements that day. The sheriff's office did
- 1:12:27not name Ed Oliver or the family at the time of this— that this tragedy
- 1:12:30took place. Ed chose not to post about it on social media. The team chose
- 1:12:34not to put anything out either. A lot of people have questions about this,
- 1:12:37but do the whys behind that matter today? I don't believe so.
- 1:12:41A family is giving— is grieving an unimaginable loss. And I think that
- 1:12:45that was really well said by Jenna, and she's done a lot of really great
- 1:12:48work. And, uh, before we get into exactly what Jeff said, which was a
- 1:12:52little less graceful but no less empathetic and, and, and emotional,
- 1:12:56um, when you— this is the,
- 1:12:59this is the problem with the consolidation
- 1:13:04of media into everybody sort of acting like media is social
- 1:13:08media, social media is media, uh, content creators
- 1:13:12and self-described NFL insiders and sleuths are actual media.
- 1:13:16And it's why I'm so disappointed in real journalists who have real journalism degrees
- 1:13:20and communication studies degrees and all these things, uh, like Adam Schefter, who have
- 1:13:24decided to turn the job into a mockery along with ESPN and whatever else,
- 1:13:27because there actually is a like a, a real,
- 1:13:31uh, skill set that's— that is journalism.
- 1:13:35You learn how to fucking cover stories. You learn how to
- 1:13:39handle sources. You learn how to handle information that you've received and who
- 1:13:43to fucking cross-check it with and how to verify your sources.
- 1:13:47That is an actual fucking skill set. And when we talk— when,
- 1:13:51you know, when people come at me and they, they talk about how I've never
- 1:13:54played a sport, or they talk about these That's all well and good, but there
- 1:13:59are actual ways you fucking do this with real integrity,
- 1:14:04just like any other industry where you hold people to a
- 1:14:08standard of integrity. Therapists and psychologists, lawyers,
- 1:14:11doctors— like, we have a fucking job to do that isn't
- 1:14:15just what you have decided is hot take media cycle.
- 1:14:19And the person who broke that who broke that code,
- 1:14:22they broke it because they're not a fucking journalist. And so this is
- 1:14:26why I get so mad at journalists who don't do the
- 1:14:29fucking job. And it's why I get mad when people tell me insiders aren't journalists.
- 1:14:33They're supposed to be. And people understand that. And Jeff Pearlman
- 1:14:37went on, um, on over the weekend.
- 1:14:41He said, uh, the reporter who was
- 1:14:45acting like he had breaking news last night and practically taking a victory
- 1:14:48lap on Twitter against Bills reporters is a piece of shit.
- 1:14:52Apparently he's going around harassing Bills reporters in their DMs. Tony Farmer
- 1:14:56is a hack and a piece of shit. Nothing new. That man is a
- 1:15:00total piece of shit. And the amount of times he said piece of shit,
- 1:15:02quite honestly, is understandable because you didn't break news.
- 1:15:06Yeah, you didn't have an inside story or an inside scoop. You had
- 1:15:10no fucking character where a bunch of other Bills reporters
- 1:15:15and staff members did, and you decided that
- 1:15:18you— where you obviously somehow got this information
- 1:15:22leaked to you to act like you had some sort of breaking news.
- 1:15:26I fucking hate this, Cody. I hate
- 1:15:31it with every fiber of my being. His name is Tony Farmer, right? Tony Farmer,
- 1:15:33you are fucking Jake Gyllenhaal from Nightcrawler.
- 1:15:36Fuck you. Yeah, fuck you. You are useless to mankind.
- 1:15:40Fuck you. Jeff Perlman said you're a piece of shit.
- 1:15:44I'm saying Fuck you. And the reality
- 1:15:47is, not only did he just like tank
- 1:15:52any sort of goodwill he could have ever built up with anybody if he
- 1:15:55actually wanted to legitimately cover the NFL,
- 1:15:59he revealed that he has no like journalistic integrity. What I
- 1:16:03do like about this story, and it's the only thing I like about this
- 1:16:07story, where a family is grieving a fucking 2-year-old child,
- 1:16:10which would break most human beings and would certainly break me.
- 1:16:14Is that it has also reminded us that there are journalists
- 1:16:18and people in these industries with real fucking integrity trying to protect
- 1:16:22people who are going through something difficult. And losing faith
- 1:16:27in what journalism can be is, and what people—
- 1:16:31what kind of like integrity and
- 1:16:35empathy people can have in their hearts in these moments is not
- 1:16:39helping us. Being constantly negative and
- 1:16:43believing that the industry is going to go to hell no matter what we
- 1:16:47do. When we see an example of, of people taking
- 1:16:50care, because in 2026, for a story like this
- 1:16:54to last months and months without anybody talking about it is a
- 1:16:58coordinated effort among a bunch of people in Buffalo
- 1:17:02and in the NFL to allow Ed and his family
- 1:17:06to grieve. Yeah. So that is— I fuck Tony
- 1:17:10Farmer, Tony Griezmann, but I want to shout out Jenna Lane. I want
- 1:17:15to— I want to shout out Jeff Pearlman. I want to shout out all of
- 1:17:18the Bills local media who knew about this and the Bills staff members who,
- 1:17:22by the way, you know, Josh Allen and that, that building are
- 1:17:26very like— they're very beloved by Bills fans for a reason.
- 1:17:31But like on the flip side of us constantly talking about what's
- 1:17:35not reported, is that sometimes there are things that don't need
- 1:17:39to be reported and shouldn't be reported. And that is, uh,
- 1:17:43where I think we are losing the plot on, on real journalists.
- 1:17:47Um, look out. Like, you know, I think a lot
- 1:17:51of people forget that I'm an— like, I actually went to college
- 1:17:55and graduated as an aspiring journalist
- 1:17:59with a degree. I am a person who creates
- 1:18:03content on the internet as my medium, but I'm not a content
- 1:18:06creator. These fuckers are content
- 1:18:11creators. Yeah, I have actual journalism experience,
- 1:18:14which is why you're content. We are not the fucking same, right? Not the same
- 1:18:17at all. So that, you know, it is— it behooves
- 1:18:21you to look at exactly— now that does not give me automatic
- 1:18:24credibility because there are plenty of journalists who are betraying that. Yes,
- 1:18:27but it is important that you understand what— like,
- 1:18:31where the actual integrity lies on both sides of this,
- 1:18:35in reporting things that need to be reported and not reporting things
- 1:18:38that don't. Couldn't agree more, man. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
- 1:18:41I couldn't agree more. This is— this story legitimately made me
- 1:18:44a little sick. Yeah. And that's— I'm glad that everyone's kind
- 1:18:49of come together in agreement on this because it's not something that we all do
- 1:18:52in the sports media industry for sure. Um, and I just, I truly hope that
- 1:18:56the family is okay. I, I, I wish there was— all I care about— I
- 1:19:00wish there was something else I could say to grant any solace. Well, it sounds
- 1:19:04like Buffalo's taking really good care of him as best as they can.
- 1:19:07Phenomenal. And that makes me like happy to
- 1:19:10hear that. And that's, that's all that we can hope for now in a situation
- 1:19:14like that. Couldn't agree more. Um, before we catch up real quick,
- 1:19:18uh, it should be noted in case you guys haven't heard I
- 1:19:23think pretty sure they're going to call ESPN just ESP—
- 1:19:29ESPat McAfee, maybe. ESPat McAfee.
- 1:19:32That sounds good. He's— they're expanding his presence on
- 1:19:38NFL coverage. I've been saying all along we haven't seen enough Pat McAfee,
- 1:19:42right? Yeah. So they're expanding his— they announced on Wednesday new
- 1:19:45roles for both Pat McAfee and Jason— yeah, Jason Kelce, with the former
- 1:19:49joining its Monday night Countdown NFL pregame show.
- 1:19:53So they're putting Pat McAfee on Monday Night Countdown.
- 1:19:56Okay. Um, now remember, they just fired
- 1:20:01a bunch of their best NFL— they did, they fired a bunch of guys,
- 1:20:03a bunch of really, really good guys. Now, um,
- 1:20:07they brought in, uh, Jason McCourty
- 1:20:10along with Pat McAfee, okay, uh, who will
- 1:20:13continue his role on ESPN's College GameDay and his own daily talk show.
- 1:20:17So interesting. The whole thing was always
- 1:20:20that like College GameDay and Sunday or Monday
- 1:20:24Countdown and Sunday Countdown were 2 distinctly different brands.
- 1:20:28They were 2 distinctly different types of experiences and environments.
- 1:20:33The, the sort of Mac-ification of all
- 1:20:37of this NFL content is like it's its own problem
- 1:20:41just in an oversaturation of one media personality. But it's also like
- 1:20:45You're now admitting that you don't even care to have each of these
- 1:20:49shows have their own distinct style and experience.
- 1:20:54I was always obviously a bigger Sunday Countdown,
- 1:20:57Monday Night Countdown type person because I was a bigger NFL
- 1:21:01person. But, but like the Saturday shows
- 1:21:04for college football was its own vibe. You know what's funny? I agree
- 1:21:09with this. I actually very much understand Pat McAfee and the college thing because
- 1:21:13it— yeah, 100%. Pat McAfee is you know, he's a fucking frat boy.
- 1:21:16And so why wouldn't you put him on with the college thing, the frat boy
- 1:21:18thing? And I actually think— and they like— and he annoys Nick Saban.
- 1:21:21It's funny. Yeah, it reminds me a lot of his dynamic that he had with
- 1:21:24Michael Cole. And like, yeah, very similar. And like, I totally think
- 1:21:28that works. Yeah, like totally.
- 1:21:32The NFL is supposed to be adult content, and he does not break down NFL
- 1:21:36legitimately. He's not a real analyst. No, he's good at what
- 1:21:40he does. Yeah. And listen, I've always got along with Pat.
- 1:21:43I have no issues with Pat. Do I like the fucking— actually, do I like
- 1:21:47the Hunger Games he's taking a point at? Do I like all that shit?
- 1:21:49Pat? Fuck no. Pat is the same type of grifter that all those dudes are,
- 1:21:52which is if you hung out with him, he's actually really nice and not nearly
- 1:21:56as like MAGA-coated as he presents himself.
- 1:22:00But at the end of the day, you are what you promote. You are,
- 1:22:03man. You are what it is. You are. And so here's the thing.
- 1:22:07Um, they also are reportedly— now this, I— this is according
- 1:22:10to Andrew Marchand, who always like reports on the like inside. Really good
- 1:22:14about this. Yeah, so they, they said that they're reportedly planning a McAfee Monday Night
- 1:22:18Football alt cast. Um, not for me. The shows would air during
- 1:22:22off weeks for the primary Monday Night Football off, uh,
- 1:22:25alt cast, The Manning Show, The Manning Cast. Yeah. Um,
- 1:22:29but if he's gonna be on Monday Night Countdown, so he's gonna go from Countdown
- 1:22:32into an alt cast, like Just feels like a lot. And my theory here is
- 1:22:36essentially that what's happening with Pat is the same thing that happened with Stephen A.
- 1:22:40Smith, which is the corporate overlords, which are Disney,
- 1:22:43have given ESPN a specific budget. They lay
- 1:22:48people off to adhere to that specific budget, and then they lean on their highest-paid
- 1:22:52talent and ask them to do absolutely fucking everything. That talent
- 1:22:56does absolutely everything for a very massive paycheck and a ton
- 1:23:00of like of social capital. Uh, Pat McAfee is,
- 1:23:03along with Stephen A. Smith, becoming a face of ESPN.
- 1:23:09They're paying him a ton of money. Why not fucking make him do whatever you
- 1:23:13got to make him do? They had Stephen A. Smith doing absolutely everything. These are
- 1:23:16the 2 highest paid personalities at the network. And so they lay
- 1:23:20people off in order to make
- 1:23:24it worth it to have paid ESPN Pat McAfee and Stephen A.
- 1:23:27Smith the amount that they're paying them and then replace them with those people.
- 1:23:30This is something that they did for the last couple of years, for the last
- 1:23:34decade with Stephen A., and now they're doing it with Pat McAfee. And,
- 1:23:38um, Elle Duncan over the last week or
- 1:23:42so had talked about like, like, they're— we're reaching a saturation point
- 1:23:46with Pat, who does a very specific thing. And like, like, at what point are
- 1:23:49you guys just gonna just try to find some— the next Pat? Like Let Pat
- 1:23:53do what he's doing, he's good at it, and then find somebody else to do
- 1:23:56the things that— like, but, but my, my thing is that they
- 1:24:01are— they also have corporate overlords who
- 1:24:04are telling them, hey, this is your budget and you've got, you've got
- 1:24:08$200, $300 million of it wrapped up in 2 guys,
- 1:24:11put them to work. Yeah, and here's the thing, like, I, I know you guys
- 1:24:15are expecting me to go all in on both these guys, uh, because normally I
- 1:24:18go in on Stephen A. Smith all the fucking time. It's not hard to do.
- 1:24:21Fuck Stephen A. Smith. That being said, I don't actually blame Stephen A.
- 1:24:25Smith for this. No, it's not. It's not his fault at all. I mean,
- 1:24:28if you, if you get offered a job and they ask you to do them,
- 1:24:30they're paying that money. Yeah, I'll do that show and I'll do that. I refuse
- 1:24:34to believe that Stephen A. Smith doesn't want to sleep. Like, I'm— as,
- 1:24:37as much as I don't like Stephen A., I don't like him. I fucking don't
- 1:24:41like him. I'm on the record. Yeah, I, I refuse to believe
- 1:24:45that he doesn't want to sleep ever. Like, I'm sorry, there is
- 1:24:48a part of this that feels— I mean, there was like a funny video back
- 1:24:52in the day of, of like a joke of someone like waking a dude up
- 1:24:56in like a dark cement basement because there was like breaking news
- 1:24:59and they were keeping Stephen A. Smith like literally in a locked
- 1:25:03room to like roll out on camera. And like, but that
- 1:25:06is kind of the vibe. I don't, I don't love that. And I don't think—
- 1:25:10I think Stephen A. has made plenty of money. He doesn't have to be doing
- 1:25:12this. But they are getting into that territory with Pat McAfee too.
- 1:25:16Yeah. And unfortunately for ESPN,
- 1:25:21or fortunately I guess depending on their goals, um,
- 1:25:24Steve— it took Stephen A. a little bit more time, a couple
- 1:25:28decades, to really hone not understanding journalism.
- 1:25:31He really like made a craft out of deciding to not understand journalism.
- 1:25:35He was once a journalist. People, people have
- 1:25:39mixed reviews on how he was a journalist, but he was one,
- 1:25:43like an actual one. He was technically at one point a journalist.
- 1:25:46Right now, uh, that's for other people to debate, but he
- 1:25:51had, uh, you know, unlearned that and become the hot take guy. Yes, Pat McAfee
- 1:25:54is just a hot take guy, and there is a fucking ceiling to what he's
- 1:25:58capable of in making interesting content. Now, I think Peyton Manning
- 1:26:02is one of the most, like, charming, funny former,
- 1:26:06uh, superstars that does TV. I can't watch the fucking Manning
- 1:26:10cast. I don't want to. Like, it's not for me. I don't— it's not for
- 1:26:14me, right? So I'm not gonna watch the Pat McAfee cast. I'm not either.
- 1:26:17But I, you know, we are definitely getting to a place
- 1:26:22where, uh, where, you know,
- 1:26:25they're gonna ruin what was even likable about
- 1:26:29Pat McAfee in the roles that he was in for the people that liked him.
- 1:26:34So Stephen A. Smith didn't used to be this hated. He didn't used to be
- 1:26:37unanimously fucking hated. That was not the case.
- 1:26:42There was a reason First Take fucking changed sports television.
- 1:26:47Pat McAfee is in for a rude awakening. And if he doesn't like,
- 1:26:50you know, he will be rich for sure, but he'll be tired
- 1:26:54and fucking bitter and angry just like Stephen A. Smith is.
- 1:26:58And they'll both be chained in the ESPN basement together,
- 1:27:02metaphorically. Congrats, by the way, on the mansion and the yachts and the fucking,
- 1:27:06uh, jets you can afford. You'll never be on them.
- 1:27:09You'll never be on them. So what's the fucking point? Listen, I— ESPN
- 1:27:14just isn't for me anymore, like, even as a remote viewer. And I've
- 1:27:18made that abundantly clear. It's— and I don't even blame them. So I wasn't— I
- 1:27:21was like a little bit like— I was a little bit behind you
- 1:27:24on that. Yeah, like a long time, because You were telling me I was crazy
- 1:27:28at some points. Well, there was— well, there was some time where I was like,
- 1:27:32there is, uh, content worth still watching on that.
- 1:27:35Like, they have done— they have gutted it to such a degree since we even
- 1:27:39started this show that I'm with you. There's nothing on it.
- 1:27:43I will say I've been watching Sports Jeopardy on Hulu. How is that? I haven't
- 1:27:46watched it. It's fun. It's really, really— well, yeah, like, you know, I know a
- 1:27:49bunch of those people. I know a lot of those guys. Yeah. And like Like,
- 1:27:53you know, I just watched an episode last night where one of our friends like
- 1:27:56was— she like made the semifinals. Hey, let's go! Spoiler alert, by the way,
- 1:28:00because there's only one woman who made the next round. Is it Mina Kimes?
- 1:28:02No. Well, she wasn't on it. Oh, she wasn't? I would have thought she would
- 1:28:06have definitely— Mina's like too good. Like her and Katie— yeah, she would actually do
- 1:28:08too good. So her and Katie Nolan have been on like Celebrity Jeopardy, like the
- 1:28:12one where it's actually genuinely competitive, and they're both really good
- 1:28:16at that. They would like— they would crush these. You know, I'm actually not good
- 1:28:19at Jeopardy. Jeopardy. It's not because I don't know the answers. I can't handle the
- 1:28:21speed. I need a second. Like, I can't. I do too. I can't. It's the—
- 1:28:24yeah, I like— I can't immediately be like, and what is— I, I buzzed.
- 1:28:28Although I will say, 5 seconds, I'm like this. I will say, you might— you'll
- 1:28:31have to, you have to watch a couple episodes and let me know because,
- 1:28:32um, they're not good at it either. Like, a lot
- 1:28:36of the players on— there's a couple that are great, but like a lot of
- 1:28:39the players who play are just like, you know, people who work at ESPN,
- 1:28:41anchors, whatever else, and they obviously know their shit, but they're not good at Jeopardy
- 1:28:45either. So like it makes you feel a little bit better where you're like,
- 1:28:48oh, this isn't full of like— because we both know a ton about sports.
- 1:28:52Like it's not about knowing the facts. It's about being— they do the same thing.
- 1:28:56They panic. They don't know what's up. They're fucking freaking out. So yeah, I freak
- 1:28:58out when I play Jeopardy at home because I can't be fast enough. I'm just
- 1:29:01not fast enough. Yeah, my mind works very fast. But to dig up that thing
- 1:29:05on like a question thing, I just can't do it. I need a second.
- 1:29:08Well, you know now that Chris and I are going to make you do it
- 1:29:10with us. Me. We DVR Jeopardy. We've got like— gonna embarrass
- 1:29:14me. We got like 60 episodes because I've always played Jeopardy, along with Jeopardy.
- 1:29:17I'm usually pretty good, but it's always like I always want to pause it before
- 1:29:20they say the answers. I'll pause it for you so I can like take 10
- 1:29:23seconds. If you think you know it, if you think you know it, I'll pause
- 1:29:25it for you. I'll give you 10 seconds. And there's always also the wording of
- 1:29:28the question always takes me an extra second because that's not how you fucking ask
- 1:29:32questions. Did you not do good on your SATs? Uh, no, I actually— believe it
- 1:29:35or not, no, I did not. I was— I think my SATs, I got like
- 1:29:37an 1100. Yeah, nothing. All that was going to say, that's, that's because that's what
- 1:29:41you were saying when like the wording and the stuff that throws you off,
- 1:29:43like that's the shit that makes people do poorly on their SATs. And that's— but
- 1:29:46then they're smart people, but they're just not testing. You're not a test taker.
- 1:29:49We're nothing to write home about. You're not a test taker. That being said,
- 1:29:53like, yeah, I mean, ESPN, I've said for a
- 1:29:57long time, is beyond lost their way. Yeah, I understand why they
- 1:30:01have, because we're talking billions and billions and billions of dollars from
- 1:30:05corporate daddy that is Disney. And, um, you know what,
- 1:30:08at this point I'm not even mad about it anymore. I'm, um,
- 1:30:12disappointed. Okay, just fucking disappointed
- 1:30:16that this is the quote-unquote mothership and it's, it's, it is— well,
- 1:30:19we are the mothership now. I know, it's simply become reality television. The regulars
- 1:30:24are the mothership. We are, we're the fucking mothership. We're the only ones going to
- 1:30:26tell you the fucking truth. Really? How about that? Amazing how this is where we
- 1:30:29got Mocha. We did it, baby. We fucking did it. Wait, Cody,
- 1:30:32before we go, I want you to tell the people 3—
- 1:30:36your 3 favorite things about your, uh, vacation to Hawaii.
- 1:30:403, 3 things that you really liked about your opportunity to vacation in
- 1:30:44Hawaii. And I imagine all of them came after your
- 1:30:48trip started, uh, weathering a hurricane. So I
- 1:30:52flew to Hawaii during a hurricane. Um, well, you got there and then
- 1:30:55there was a hurricane. That is true. I did get there first and then the
- 1:30:58hurricane Yeah, uh, fuck, man. Yeah,
- 1:31:02I lost 3 days of that trip.
- 1:31:05So what good things happened? It wasn't expensive. Yeah, and it wasn't
- 1:31:09booked a long time ago, and, and borderline a gift. Uh, but believe it or
- 1:31:13not, this is also a gift from my mom, by the way. She gave it—
- 1:31:15she, she gifted this to me like 2 years ago, and I've been waiting to
- 1:31:19like cash in on this gift from Christmas like 2 and a half, 3 years
- 1:31:22ago, and I finally had the chance to to cash in on
- 1:31:26this gift that was given to me. And, um, you deserve that.
- 1:31:29You know, 4 months ago when it was all booked, uh,
- 1:31:33how do I put it, that hurricane just fucking wasn't in the forecast. No,
- 1:31:36they usually aren't. That's the thing about hurricanes. Turns out it really wasn't much in
- 1:31:40the forecast like even the week before when I left. So hurricanes in general,
- 1:31:43like, it's not like you booked, um, it's not like you booked Miami in October.
- 1:31:46No, no, I booked Hawaii in August. Right, like, I mean, there's like, there are
- 1:31:49certain places that if there's a hurricane there, like, you're, you're not super
- 1:31:54shocked. I got married in Miami and the whole thing was like
- 1:31:57more expensive and you get a cheaper deal if you're in hurricane season
- 1:32:01for a reason, right? So like Miami,
- 1:32:05not as well as much known for the hurricanes. They do happen, of course.
- 1:32:08But yeah, I spent a couple of days on a porch because—
- 1:32:12yeah, I saw you on there. You did a great little cameo in the rain.
- 1:32:15I did. I put out my thirst traps as Per
- 1:32:19request. You put out several thirst traps. I put out multiple shirtless
- 1:32:23photos, like, per request. Good shirtless. I felt good about it. Yeah,
- 1:32:27no, you looked good about them. You looked good. Thank you. They were genuinely— I
- 1:32:30felt trapped. I was like, damn, I did it. Yeah, I did something good.
- 1:32:34Yeah. So I have more. I haven't posted them because I don't— I'm,
- 1:32:38I'm not gonna lie to you, just honestly, yeah, very self-conscious about it. Well,
- 1:32:41I mean, and like, there's a time and a place for thirst trap. Like,
- 1:32:44that's why I was so excited because I was like You know, you know,
- 1:32:47these— your vacation is a time. Vacation in Hawaii is a time to be shirtless.
- 1:32:51Yeah, it makes sense. The people want to know. The people want to know.
- 1:32:53Right. And I was a lot. It was. Yeah. But here's like,
- 1:32:56here's the good things that happened. One, I had a— I did have a wonderful
- 1:32:59time. I,
- 1:33:03I still, you know, salvaged— had some great meals, cooked great meals.
- 1:33:07The house we stayed at was lovely. Only lost power for one day. Yeah.
- 1:33:12When things cleared up, went over to Turtle Bay, hung out at the pool there,
- 1:33:15and really enjoyed it. I saw that. I love— beautiful, gorgeous resort. Beautiful,
- 1:33:18great resort. I've been there dozens and dozens of times, it seems like,
- 1:33:21at this point. Uh, it was, it was a good time. My favorite moment on—
- 1:33:26there were 2, believe it or not. Okay. I've never been the biggest Waikiki fan.
- 1:33:29Like, Waikiki is a little bit more Disneyland of Hawaii. Sure.
- 1:33:32You've got to appreciate at least 1 or 2 days in Waikiki or Samui.
- 1:33:35Yeah, yeah. I like a super touristy spot if it's if it's done right.
- 1:33:38So my girlfriend and I got— and this was her idea, we were kind of
- 1:33:42just decided, we were in Waikiki and she just said like, uh, there's this catamaran
- 1:33:46tour at sunset, let's go. I said, fucking done. We went
- 1:33:49and it was truly lovely.
- 1:33:53Like, it was just a sunset, beautiful view. Sunset on the water,
- 1:33:56never fucking— it never— it's never not great. And what's funny about that is I,
- 1:34:00I put my phone away for the entire thing. I just kind of wanted to
- 1:34:03be in it, and that— it's like meditative, and it was just
- 1:34:07the most relaxing thing I did. Uh, the other thing I really enjoyed, which is
- 1:34:10so funny, I haven't paddleboarded in like— I saw you guys were paddling.
- 1:34:15Yeah, it's hard, um, by the way, and I forgot how much I like
- 1:34:18it. Yeah. Um, especially if you have the common enough thing. Yeah. And I didn't
- 1:34:22realize I'm better. I haven't done it in like 12 years. I'm actually better at
- 1:34:25paddleboarding than I've ever been. Great. I used to be terrible at it. Great.
- 1:34:28So core strength. On point. Like, like your balance on
- 1:34:32point. Yeah. So paddleboarding in Haleiwa, in the river of Haleiwa, was just beautiful.
- 1:34:36And it's the North Shore of Oahu, man. It's my
- 1:34:40favorite place on planet Earth. If I could retire to anywhere on planet Earth,
- 1:34:43it'd be there. Granted, it was the most humid that town has
- 1:34:46probably ever been because of the hurricane. Well, you know, you can't
- 1:34:50win them all. But as for the most part, I have to say it was
- 1:34:53for the most part a lovely time and Um, it just sucks I didn't get
- 1:34:57more— I didn't get to relax as much as I would have liked because
- 1:35:01of the hurricane, of it all, and because of other things that were taking place.
- 1:35:04But for the most part, um, it was nice to just kind of get away
- 1:35:08out of LA for a couple of days. Uh, back to the grind, back to
- 1:35:11work. It's football season, it's time to work, work. Yeah, we're about to work our
- 1:35:14asses off and we're about to be doing more than we ever have. And I've
- 1:35:17signed myself up now for, uh, way more work because I started a
- 1:35:21Substack. You did? So I started my own multimedia channel where I'm going to be
- 1:35:24doing more shit. Goddamn, anybody who's interested, uh, at TinyRayFox1
- 1:35:29on Substack, you'll see it. I have posted, um,
- 1:35:32my very first Substack, which is entitled I Probably Will
- 1:35:36Never Debate Stephen A. Smith. Um, and so I'm busy with
- 1:35:40that. And also, while you were— while you were gone, I,
- 1:35:44uh, went to the movies and saw Tony. How— what did you think? I haven't
- 1:35:47had a chance yet. I loved it. Yeah, I fucking loved it. I thought it
- 1:35:51was a really, really good film. It's small. It's, it's— so first of all,
- 1:35:54it was all filmed in Massachusetts and on Cape Cod. Like, it was like filmed
- 1:35:58where I live, like where I grew up, right? So this is very— so it's
- 1:36:00very nostalgic. But also, it's a beautiful small film that takes place during
- 1:36:03a, like, one summer right before he goes to culinary
- 1:36:07school. So it's a small— it's not a biopic in the
- 1:36:11traditional sense. And the acting is brilliant.
- 1:36:13Antonio Banderas is so hot it actually fucking hurts.
- 1:36:17Like, it actually is like— he's actually— no, it's actually fucking insane. Like, I always
- 1:36:21thought he was like super hot. Question: Real question, him or Javier
- 1:36:24Bardem? Oh, Antonio Banderas. Really? I just watched him, dude.
- 1:36:28When I tell you, like, you're gonna feel it. Those fucking, like,
- 1:36:31car— like, knit sweaters he was in cooking. I, I'm a sucker for
- 1:36:35a knit sweater. I'm a sucker. Like, I'm not, I'm not exaggerating,
- 1:36:39and I don't— like, he is insane. Uh, and Leo Woodall
- 1:36:42was, like, the standout performance of the movie for me. He was, like, really amazing.
- 1:36:46I totally recommend you go see it. I think you'd really like it. It's an
- 1:36:49hour and 45-minute movie. Gorgeous. I didn't get up to pee. That never
- 1:36:53fucking— let's go! So there you go. No, I will, I will definitely see
- 1:36:57Tony. I've heard nothing but phenomenal reviews. Can I also suggest something else? Something we've
- 1:37:00talked about a lot— The Green Lantern. Holy shit, watch Lanterns.
- 1:37:04Holy shit, watch Lanterns. I'm telling you,
- 1:37:08I, I don't— I want to apologize to Kyle
- 1:37:12Chandler. You're a phenomenal actor. You always have been. He's always been a really good
- 1:37:16actor. I just— I didn't realize you were this fucking— the women knew.
- 1:37:19The women knew. They were like, me, he's great. Feel it in our loins
- 1:37:22from OG Kyle Chandler. He is so fucking good in this. He's so good.
- 1:37:26And, and so is, by the way, uh, Aaron Pierre. Yeah, they're both
- 1:37:30so excited for Aaron Pierre to get to do this. Me too. But like,
- 1:37:33but man, I gotta say, every time Hal, uh, he's on screen as
- 1:37:37Hal Jordan— all right, I'm gonna— so this is our deal. I'm gonna catch up
- 1:37:40on Lanterns and I'll go check out— and you're gonna go Tony, and then we'll,
- 1:37:43we'll, we'll, uh, run it back. And, uh, listen, this has been
- 1:37:47a phenomenal show. Sorry, Mocha, we kept you here like 15 minutes longer than usual.
- 1:37:51Here way too long. Uh, but I, I'm thrilled with, uh, getting back over

- 1:39:10invest in us, and, and we will always make it worth it.
- 1:39:13Yeah, because we are— listen, I'm very proud of this, and I'm proud
- 1:39:17of working with Tanya on a daily basis every single day and everything that we've
- 1:39:20accomplished so far. And we've only been doing this for 5 months, and this has
- 1:39:23been entirely grassroots, on our own, by ourselves,
- 1:39:26slowly and building and finding what works, finding what doesn't work, and really
- 1:39:31learning a lot through it. And I gotta say, I am, uh, I love doing
- 1:39:34this with you, and I cannot believe how much the growth has
- 1:39:38been, especially in these last 2 months. And I'm really excited where
- 1:39:42we're going, and we really want all of you to be a part of it.
- 1:39:45I mean, there's one person we don't want to be a part of it— Kurt
- 1:39:47Schilling. Seriously, we don't want you to be a part of this at all.
- 1:39:50Yeah, yeah, we're so— forever and always,
- 1:39:53everybody else We love you. Love you. Kurt Schilling,
- 1:39:57fuck you, Kurt. Oh, fuck you.
