- 0:15SPEAKER_00: This is Dallas Beecham.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Stand by for good news.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Before Jesus ascended, he told his disciples not to leave Jerusalem.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: They were to wait for the promise of the Father.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: They had walked with Jesus.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: They had heard his teaching and witnessed his miracles.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: They had seen him alive after the resurrection.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Yet the Father's promise was still ahead.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Jesus told them, You shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost, not many days hence.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: He also said, You shall receive power.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: After that, the Holy Ghost has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses unto me.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Then came Pentecost.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Acts 2 says, They were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: The promise was no longer only something spoken about.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: It had been received.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: When the crowd asked what to do, Peter connected their response directly to that promise.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Repent and be baptized, every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Listen carefully to those final words.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: You shall receive.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Peter was not offering a reward reserved for a spiritual elite.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: He was announcing the Father's gift.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: The Holy Ghost was not only for the apostles in an upper room.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Peter continued, for the promise is unto you and to your children and to all that are far off.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: As Acts upholds that promise crosses boundaries.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Samaritans receive the Holy Ghost.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Gentiles in the house of Corneus receive the Holy Ghost.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Disciples at Ephesus receive the Holy Ghost.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: The promise moves from Jerusalem toward the nations, just as Jesus said it would.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: And wherever the promise goes, it declares that God desires more than our agreement with facts.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: He desires to place his spirit within his people.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: The Holy Ghost gives power to witness, strength to live in changed life, comfort in weakness, and assurance that we belong to God.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Ephesians speaks of believers being sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: The Father does not merely point toward a new life, he gives power for that life.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Perhaps you have heard people speak of the Holy Ghost as though receiving it were mysterious, uncertain, are no longer possible.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: But the book of Acts presents the promise with joyful expectation.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: God knows how to give his gift.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Our part is to come with repentance, faith, and obedience.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: Jesus said in Luke 11, 13 that the Heavenly Father would give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: The Father is not reluctant, he is not hiding his promise behind an impossible barrier.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: If you hunger for more of God, let that hunger lead you to Scripture.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Ask Him to cleanse you, guide you, and feel you.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Do not settle for knowing that others once received the promise.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: The words spoken on Pentecost reach forward through the centuries.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: The promise is unto you.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: That is more than history.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: That is good news.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: It is right there in the book of Acts and is not difficult to understand.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Today we can have the same promise the believers of Acts received.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: I hope today's message has touched your heart and causes you to have a good day.
