- 0:39Speaker 1: Watch out. Evan's on edge right now. Evan's on edge,
- 0:41Speaker 1: generally wrong with him. I'll let him speak for himself.
- 0:44Speaker 4: I'm mad Jersey Mike's closed again. They should be focused
- 0:47Speaker 4: on staff in players now. Then they can make sure
- 0:50Speaker 4: Evan approves later.
- 0:51Speaker 5: This is a show where we give our opinions, right.

- 0:58Speaker 1: The tone of this.
- 0:59Speaker 5: I am giving you a chance. I have concerns. Is
- 1:02Speaker 5: that not allowed?
- 1:04Speaker 1: Okay? I agree with Evan.
- 1:06Speaker 4: This has to be the worst off season of coach
- 1:08Speaker 4: Mayo's career, and she.
- 1:10Speaker 5: Said that she would love to have a birthday message
- 1:13Speaker 5: on the jumbo tron. So being the great, she texts
- 1:18Speaker 5: me on Tuesday on her birthday as I'm driving into
- 1:22Speaker 5: work and she goes, you didn't actually get my name
- 1:25Speaker 5: up on the jumbo tron tonight, did you. I'm gonna
- 1:27Speaker 5: be embarrassed. I don't actually want you to do that.
- 1:29Speaker 5: And I was like, oh my god, you told me
- 1:31Speaker 5: you wanted to even hire me to Happy birthday, Jess
- 1:35Speaker 5: Love Evan. That's not that hard. How many of that?
- 1:40Speaker 5: There was no time, there was no room.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Thanks for the sex.
- 1:45Speaker 5: Wow, that's my fiance.

- 1:59Speaker 1: Sorry you're hearing Duce's voice because Fred and Paul are
- 2:02Speaker 1: out today. We got the kids. We brought in Matisa
- 2:05Speaker 1: from the halftime show. We got the call up. So
- 2:07Speaker 1: it's Tamara, it's Alex, it's Evan, it's Deuced, it's Matis.
- 2:11Speaker 1: We got the whole crew. Matt is here in the booth. So, yeah,
- 2:14Speaker 1: the guys are a vacation. I think I think Fred's
- 2:16Speaker 1: probably somewhre tropical. I'm gonna guess Ruba, now that sounds
- 2:20Speaker 1: about right. And Pilads getting drip stuff on his shirt
- 2:25Speaker 1: probably uh. And Paul doing school tours and and all
- 2:29Speaker 1: kinds of things. Watch out for that kid's broken.
- 2:33Speaker 5: The kids are taking over.
- 2:34Speaker 6: Watch out, am I kid?
- 2:36Speaker 1: Am I kid?
- 2:39Speaker 5: You're like at the you know, the holidays, Like you're
- 2:41Speaker 5: like the guy sitting at the kids table that doesn't.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Really I'm cool, I'm hip. What are you guys? What's
- 2:47Speaker 1: what's the rizz?
- 2:48Speaker 8: It's a relief Sometimes move is actually really hip, like
- 2:54Speaker 8: so hip hip.
- 2:55Speaker 5: If you're at like a wedding, the kids buffet is
- 2:58Speaker 5: the way, like, oh don't don't you know crummy adult food,
- 3:02Speaker 5: go over to.
- 3:02Speaker 1: The kids, right, guy who shows chicken tenders over prime rib,
- 3:09Speaker 1: that's right, folks, he's here. You can call in you yea.
- 3:14Speaker 5: I mean that's a bad take.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Make an answer for that today.
- 3:18Speaker 1: So we got a Wiley crew here today, and there's
- 3:19Speaker 1: actually quite a few things to talk about here. Over
- 3:22Speaker 1: the last few days, we've had Patriots and now coaches.
- 3:25Speaker 1: We can get into that we got the franchise tag deadline?
- 3:27Speaker 1: Is that I think it's day Evan, Is that correct? Yes?
- 3:30Speaker 5: Four o'clock is today? Is that when you can start
- 3:32Speaker 5: tagging people?
- 3:33Speaker 1: Four o'clock today, guy and Phillips reportedly released slater retirement,
- 3:38Speaker 1: I mean Dynasty one and two. So we got a
- 3:41Speaker 1: lot of different stuff to get to today, but let's
- 3:43Speaker 1: let's start off at the top here with Matthew Slater
- 3:46Speaker 1: officially announcing his retirement. I know everybody here hates Matthew
- 3:51Speaker 1: Slater and thinks he's just a jerk, and so we're
- 3:53Speaker 1: all gonna air our grievances. No, of course, opposite, everybody
- 3:55Speaker 1: loves Matthew Slater. What a leader he's been here forever.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I mean, you guys have been, you know, right up
- 4:00Speaker 1: working with him, a bunch with social media stuff, always
- 4:03Speaker 1: happy to talk in the locker room, always happy to
- 4:06Speaker 1: stand up after you know, a handful of difficult seasons
- 4:08Speaker 1: the last few years. So just I guess start with
- 4:11Speaker 1: you guys. Well, you know, Tamara, you spoke plenty with
- 4:14Speaker 1: Matthew Slater, did plenty with him. What are your thoughts
- 4:16Speaker 1: on on his retirement?
- 4:17Speaker 9: Here I'm devastated one because now it took us about
- 4:21Speaker 9: twenty minutes to find out who the oldest person in
- 4:23Speaker 9: the locker room was, to figure out who are we
- 4:24Speaker 9: gonna use for our old people, what we're gonna do.
- 4:28Speaker 9: But no, seriously, I think he's been just so like
- 4:32Speaker 9: amazing to see because one since I've been here, he's
- 4:35Speaker 9: been here, and losing Devin, I was like, Okay, Slater's
- 4:37Speaker 9: the only person I have to rely on now after losses,
- 4:41Speaker 9: get an interview with and he's just an exemplary person
- 4:45Speaker 9: and just has great leadership. He's a great human being.
- 4:48Speaker 9: Obviously great teammate, and I think it's gonna be tough
- 4:51Speaker 9: to replace him, Like obviously big part on special teams,
- 4:54Speaker 9: but even more so as a leader in the locker room.
- 4:56Speaker 9: You don't get guys like Slater in the in the
- 4:58Speaker 9: in the locker room often and it's hard to emulate that.
- 5:01Speaker 9: And so just looking in the locker room now, I'm
- 5:03Speaker 9: trying to figure out who's gonna fill his shoes, because
- 5:06Speaker 9: mighty shoes to fill it.
- 5:08Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, especially that aspect, Like the one thing
- 5:10Speaker 8: I appreciate the most of him is I feel like
- 5:13Speaker 8: he would lock eyes with like you me or Sailor
- 5:15Speaker 8: before leaving the locker room, we're in his vicinity, like
- 5:18Speaker 8: just like a knowing glance that you would share, just like, Hey,
- 5:21Speaker 8: are you guys good? Do you need anything from me
- 5:23Speaker 8: before I leave? Do you need me to do a
- 5:25Speaker 8: stupid TikTok? Do you need me to get a shout out?
- 5:28Speaker 8: Like he just wanted to make sure we were good
- 5:31Speaker 8: before he would.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Leave for the day.
- 5:32Speaker 8: And that was like cool because no matter what day
- 5:34Speaker 8: it was, no matter what the record was, not every
- 5:37Speaker 8: guy was like that, right, And our players are great,
- 5:40Speaker 8: they they really do participate.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Shutt ki right. I always he didn't even have ttok
- 5:47Speaker 1: Sailor MVP.
- 5:50Speaker 3: And like we're Sailors MVPs this year.
- 5:52Speaker 8: But I just always appreciated that he was so personable
- 5:55Speaker 8: and I thought about like what I was going to
- 5:58Speaker 8: tweet out and I erase like a lot of things.
- 6:00Speaker 8: But I just feel like it was great to root
- 6:03Speaker 8: with him as a fan and like that saying don't
- 6:05Speaker 8: meet your heroes, like, don't meet your heroes unless their
- 6:09Speaker 8: Matthew Slater, because he's so much better than you expect
- 6:11Speaker 8: him to be, and he just the energy he radiates
- 6:15Speaker 8: makes you want to be a better person when you're
- 6:18Speaker 8: around him, and that's how I always felt that.
- 6:20Speaker 9: I like that you said that one more thing before
- 6:22Speaker 9: Evan goes the last game in the locker room. Well,
- 6:25Speaker 9: in the locker room after the game, everyone was going
- 6:28Speaker 9: up to him, Like every single reporter went up to him,
- 6:30Speaker 9: just like thanking him for his time. We assumed it
- 6:33Speaker 9: was his last. I literally couldn't even say two words
- 6:35Speaker 9: I had to go up to him. I was like,
- 6:36Speaker 9: if I say anything, I'm just gonna cry, And so
- 6:40Speaker 9: that's all I could say. He's like, I appreciate that
- 6:42Speaker 9: because I know what you mean. Like, just watching the
- 6:44Speaker 9: amount of people go up to him at his very
- 6:46Speaker 9: last game was incredible, not just his teammates but reporters.
- 6:50Speaker 9: Every single person went.
- 6:51Speaker 10: Up to him.
- 6:52Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you know, Alex, you mentioned rooting for
- 6:55Speaker 5: him as a fan, And I think the cool thing
- 6:57Speaker 5: about our job is that we get that unique perspective
- 7:01Speaker 5: of going from a fan of the Patriots and then
- 7:03Speaker 5: working for the Patriots inside the locker room and things
- 7:07Speaker 5: like that. And I remember, you know, early on in
- 7:11Speaker 5: his career, before I became a reporter, watching Matthew Slater
- 7:15Speaker 5: rooting for Matthew Slater, and him and Devin mccordy are
- 7:19Speaker 5: the two guys that I was huge fans of as
- 7:21Speaker 5: a fan that lived up to the hype and then
- 7:24Speaker 5: some when you meet them in person, like they are
- 7:27Speaker 5: everything that you expect. And Matthew Slater is one of
- 7:32Speaker 5: the most unique people I've ever met, like forget about football,
- 7:35Speaker 5: like just in terms of his personality and his character
- 7:39Speaker 5: and all those types of things. Not only did you
- 7:43Speaker 5: feel smarter after talking to him for five minutes, but
- 7:46Speaker 5: you also wanted to run through a wall for the guy.
- 7:48Speaker 5: So you can understand from a leadership perspective why he
- 7:51Speaker 5: was so valuable to this team. And I hope that
- 7:55Speaker 5: when it comes to things like Hall of Fame and
- 7:58Speaker 5: career accolades, that can't be understated how important he was
- 8:05Speaker 5: as a leader for this football team and as a
- 8:09Speaker 5: messenger for this football team. He was the heartbeat of
- 8:14Speaker 5: the Patriots for many, many years, and that I don't
- 8:18Speaker 5: think you can sum up with ten time Pro Bowler
- 8:21Speaker 5: and led the special teams in this and led that.
- 8:23Speaker 5: So when they do get to the Hall of Fame,
- 8:26Speaker 5: you know committee, which I think he will be on
- 8:29Speaker 5: a ballot at some point and someone I hope that
- 8:32Speaker 5: whoever gets to make that pitch is someone that actually
- 8:35Speaker 5: covered Matthew Slater on a day to day basis, because
- 8:39Speaker 5: you wouldn't understand how much he actually meant to the
- 8:43Speaker 5: organization into the team unless you were in the locker
- 8:45Speaker 5: room because it isn't forward facing all the time. And
- 8:50Speaker 5: in terms of his post playing career, I hope that
- 8:52Speaker 5: there is a future for him, whether it's special teams related, coaching,
- 8:58Speaker 5: a character coach, you know, whatever the title is. I
- 9:02Speaker 5: just hope that they're able to keep him around and
- 9:04Speaker 5: allow him to continue to do the leadership stuff.
- 9:07Speaker 6: Well, I'll say I'm not in the locker room as
- 9:09Speaker 6: much as tamorn Alex, but last year working on the
- 9:12Speaker 6: retirement house, as Evan says, like you know, Slater is
- 9:14Speaker 6: a fan, but that was my first time really working
- 9:16Speaker 6: with him, and like nicest guy ever walked up, introduced himself,
- 9:20Speaker 6: would do whatever we asked, like for the whole first
- 9:22Speaker 6: half of the day long ruling days and like just
- 9:25Speaker 6: once you get to know him off the field, I mean,
- 9:27Speaker 6: like Tamara said, I don't know how you replace somebody
- 9:29Speaker 6: like like that in the locker room. But once again,
- 9:31Speaker 6: like there are not many guys like him left in
- 9:33Speaker 6: the league in general, the world, in the world, but
- 9:36Speaker 6: like unique player like as a person and just a
- 9:38Speaker 6: playing style special teams players.
- 9:40Speaker 1: So I mean it's funny, like I I'm old enough, kids,
- 9:44Speaker 1: sit down, No, I I remember that draft, and I
- 9:48Speaker 1: remember when they selected him. And this has happened so
- 9:51Speaker 1: many times over the years, where what he doesn't even
- 9:54Speaker 1: have a college position, Like people were so mad like
- 9:57Speaker 1: that he was not a receiver, like just they couldn't
- 10:00Speaker 1: believe that, you know that that Belichick had drafted you know,
- 10:02Speaker 1: special teams only got with like the six round. I
- 10:04Speaker 1: think it was out of UCLA. So I so clearly
- 10:08Speaker 1: remember that and then for him to you know, carve
- 10:10Speaker 1: out the career that he did. The other kind of
- 10:11Speaker 1: funny note, I mean, you guys gave him all the
- 10:13Speaker 1: you know, the praise that he deserves. I just remember,
- 10:15Speaker 1: like certainly in like twenty ten, eleven twelve, they were
- 10:18Speaker 1: kind of struggling with receivers a little bit, and like
- 10:21Speaker 1: when they were really really hurting, that's when they put
- 10:23Speaker 1: Matthew Slater out to like go run, just like just
- 10:25Speaker 1: run to go route, just use your speed, get downfield.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Tom's gonna chuck a bomb to you. I think he
- 10:29Speaker 1: caught one pass yeah in his career, But that that always, like,
- 10:33Speaker 1: of all the things that you love about that, that
- 10:34Speaker 1: was the one thing that kind of always annoyed me.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Was like, Oh God, here we go again. They're gonna
- 10:38Speaker 1: try this Slater thing. I wonder what he's gonna do,
- 10:40Speaker 1: like just run right down the field everybody. You know,
- 10:42Speaker 1: it was funny. I mean, they got away from that
- 10:43Speaker 1: later in the career, in his career, but you know,
- 10:46Speaker 1: I'm just wondering what it's gonna be like in training
- 10:48Speaker 1: camp when we don't see one guy getting a private
- 10:51Speaker 1: lesson the whole pretty much the whole.
- 10:53Speaker 6: Practice guy breaking up the fights, like.
- 10:56Speaker 1: I know, and then you know, and then just real quick,
- 10:58Speaker 1: we got you know, somebody wrote in kind of kind
- 11:00Speaker 1: of topical Sam big Canoe. He just said, Sam from
- 11:02Speaker 1: Saint Catherine's. With the retirement of Slater, who do you
- 11:06Speaker 1: guys think will take on the role of being the
- 11:07Speaker 1: all yeah guy for the breakdown post victories or do
- 11:10Speaker 1: you think in the new era they will stop doing
- 11:12Speaker 1: it all together and create a new tradition.
- 11:16Speaker 5: I say, create a new tradition yeah, I think you
- 11:18Speaker 5: have to retire that with him.
- 11:20Speaker 6: Tell your idea.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Not totally my idea, I think it was. It was
- 11:24Speaker 1: I think a little bit Fred's actually, but to kind
- 11:26Speaker 1: of give that to the fans and maybe, you know,
- 11:29Speaker 1: I know it's hard to start a new tradition, but
- 11:31Speaker 1: you know, kind of make it a thing like another
- 11:33Speaker 1: Patriots first down. Ah yeah, you know the whole crowd,
- 11:37Speaker 1: you know. Quick aside though, when the first time we
- 11:39Speaker 1: got to do Tomorrow night. Sometimes we go out, we
- 11:41Speaker 1: get the training camp crowd whipped up into into a
- 11:44Speaker 1: lather before the practice. You know, we're like, this is
- 11:47Speaker 1: what you're going to see.
- 11:49Speaker 9: People.
- 11:49Speaker 1: It's just like, oh my god, this is so exciting
- 11:54Speaker 1: Tamara right now are coming out here. And so my
- 11:56Speaker 1: first time doing it, I was like, I'm going to
- 11:59Speaker 1: hit him with the oh yeah, like I'm thinking I'm
- 12:01Speaker 1: doing super fan, Patriots super fan. I know the locker
- 12:03Speaker 1: room all yet. So I come running out, you know,
- 12:06Speaker 1: down the sidelines, and I think, actually, this might have
- 12:09Speaker 1: been the year before Tomay. I think it was with
- 12:10Speaker 1: Scal I don't know, maybe maybe it might have been
- 12:12Speaker 1: the year before you were there. Maybe not. I remember
- 12:14Speaker 1: going out with Scale because he looked at me like
- 12:16Speaker 1: it was crazy, and I did the how do we
- 12:18Speaker 1: feel about being back at Patriots training camp? I'm like,
- 12:23Speaker 1: come on, you guys don't know this one, but you know,
- 12:27Speaker 1: I mean late last year though, we saw they didn't
- 12:28Speaker 1: do that cheer, and everybody's like, what the hell is
- 12:30Speaker 1: going on? But I think you're right. I mean, I
- 12:32Speaker 1: think it's probably time to to retire that one. I'm
- 12:35Speaker 1: amazed that it made it past the Bruski part of
- 12:37Speaker 1: the dynasty, which we can obviously get into the dynasty
- 12:40Speaker 1: a little bit. That that cheer is a little bit
- 12:41Speaker 1: of part of it. Hard to kind of think of
- 12:43Speaker 1: something organic, but just weird to see Slater go out
- 12:46Speaker 1: the door as the new regime comes in, and it's it's,
- 12:49Speaker 1: you know, just an opportunity. I feel like to kind
- 12:51Speaker 1: of completely turn the door, to turn the page from
- 12:53Speaker 1: from a few different things.
- 12:55Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I think the next next thing you
- 12:57Speaker 5: also kind of wonder is, you know, David Ann and
- 13:00Speaker 5: some of the other guys that are still hanging on
- 13:03Speaker 5: from from the dynasty, if you will, how much longer
- 13:07Speaker 5: do those guys have and at what point are we
- 13:09Speaker 5: all going to walk into the locker room at some
- 13:11Speaker 5: point and nobody's going to be left. You know, it's
- 13:13Speaker 5: gonna just be all new faces. And that's that's gonna
- 13:16Speaker 5: be weird. That's that's gonna be weird. I mean, we
- 13:19Speaker 5: already don't have Devin, we don't have James White. Now
- 13:21Speaker 5: we don't have Matthew Slater.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Like it's getting there, and it's like Whise kind of
- 13:26Speaker 1: Bentley Wise.
- 13:28Speaker 5: Andrews, John Jones maybe. Yeah, I mean Andrews is really
- 13:31Speaker 5: the last guy that I truly like identify with.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Yeah, everyone else is so dynasty like it was a starter,
- 13:37Speaker 1: play a ton keep part of all those championships. Well,
- 13:41Speaker 1: of course, we we wish Matthew Slater the best, and
- 13:44Speaker 1: you know, we'll see. I know there's tons of messages
- 13:46Speaker 1: coming out from everybody acknowledging him and his great career.
- 13:50Speaker 1: So great for him and and not entirely unexpected, but
- 13:55Speaker 1: but plenty of other stuff to kind of to move
- 13:57Speaker 1: on to here. I know it hasn't been officially announced
- 13:59Speaker 1: by the team yet, but Lawrence Guy Adrian Phillips rumored
- 14:03Speaker 1: not rumored, reportedly to be released. We haven't announced it yet,
- 14:06Speaker 1: and I'm sure that that will probably be coming soon.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I think at least Guy acknowledged it on Twitter. You know,
- 14:12Speaker 1: we talked a little bit about the defensive line. Just
- 14:14Speaker 1: all those guys are up for next year and Guy
- 14:16Speaker 1: is thirty five, played at high level last year, though
- 14:19Speaker 1: I thought like didn't really drop off too much, you know,
- 14:22Speaker 1: just starting with him, we have hit on that being
- 14:25Speaker 1: a position of long term need and older position group.
- 14:29Speaker 1: You know, what do you guys just think about about
- 14:30Speaker 1: them moving on from Guy?
- 14:31Speaker 9: Now?
- 14:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that, Well, my first initial reaction is,
- 14:36Speaker 5: is this Mayo sort of foreshadowing that they're not going
- 14:40Speaker 5: to be this two gapping three hundred and thirty pound
- 14:44Speaker 5: DT's playing a defensive end and you know, pull the
- 14:47Speaker 5: point of attack type of defense. Are they going to
- 14:49Speaker 5: be a little bit more of an attack minded, you know,
- 14:52Speaker 5: get up the field type of scheme. And I'm all
- 14:55Speaker 5: for that. I think that especially in today, in the
- 14:58Speaker 5: modern NFL, it's it's definitely where the league is heading
- 15:01Speaker 5: as a whole. But I also wonder are there guys
- 15:05Speaker 5: already on the roster that they look at that they say, well,
- 15:09Speaker 5: in terms of rotational type of players, you know as
- 15:12Speaker 5: Sam Roberts, Jeremiah Farms, who came on a little bit
- 15:15Speaker 5: at the end of last year. Are those guys able
- 15:17Speaker 5: to play a little bit more? I think that Lawrence guys.
- 15:21Speaker 5: You know, if Paul was here, he would say, you
- 15:23Speaker 5: know that that guy's extinct, right, Like, we don't need
- 15:25Speaker 5: we don't need to have be paying these types of
- 15:28Speaker 5: players that are only going to play on rundowns and
- 15:30Speaker 5: are going to just two gap and hold up blockers
- 15:33Speaker 5: and things like that. We don't have to be paying
- 15:34Speaker 5: them all this money and uh. And maybe that is
- 15:37Speaker 5: a sign that other places in the roster, including defensive line,
- 15:41Speaker 5: are going to start to reflect some of that. And
- 15:43Speaker 5: I think Slater retiring is another thing, like how many
- 15:46Speaker 5: special teams only guys are they really going to have
- 15:48Speaker 5: in this new regime is I don't think it's going
- 15:50Speaker 5: to be anywhere near as many as it was with Bill.
- 15:52Speaker 9: So I feel like when I saw it, I kind
- 15:55Speaker 9: of thought about last year, when you know, the reports
- 15:57Speaker 9: were out that he was holding out for more money,
- 15:59Speaker 9: and I think this year, I'm sure he's gonna want
- 16:02Speaker 9: more money again. And I think that finally we're looking
- 16:04Speaker 9: at the roster and seeing like, Okay, hey, we can't
- 16:06Speaker 9: afford to give Lawrence Guy more money, we really need
- 16:09Speaker 9: to use those resources for offense and other holes that
- 16:11Speaker 9: we have. So that was kind of my thought process
- 16:14Speaker 9: behind it. And I feel like they feel like they
- 16:15Speaker 9: have more death or more flexibility and letting him go
- 16:19Speaker 9: and filling in the void there versus like the major
- 16:22Speaker 9: hole they have on offense that they need to spend
- 16:24Speaker 9: that money on.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Wow, So we talk about him off the field because
- 16:26Speaker 1: I mean, Slater was a great guy that Lawrence Guy
- 16:28Speaker 1: was a great guy too.
- 16:29Speaker 8: I was going to say, like we'd be remiss not
- 16:30Speaker 8: to mention not only Lawrence but his wife Andrea, Like,
- 16:34Speaker 8: no one kept us.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Busier with community.
- 16:37Speaker 8: I mean we were joking about this with the cur
- 16:39Speaker 8: staff upstairs, but no one kept us busier than Lawrence
- 16:43Speaker 8: and Andrea. It felt like every month they were holding
- 16:45Speaker 8: an event or doing a donation from their baby shower
- 16:49Speaker 8: that they would do for underprivileged moms to school backpack
- 16:54Speaker 8: giveaways and then just random things giving events like they
- 16:58Speaker 8: It just blew me away to see how generous they
- 17:02Speaker 8: were at a really grassroots, in a really grassroots way
- 17:05Speaker 8: like where they actually were making impact. They weren't just
- 17:08Speaker 8: throwing money at situations, and they worked really really hard
- 17:13Speaker 8: with their foundation and bringing their kids to the events
- 17:16Speaker 8: to get them involved, and I.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Loved working with them. I'll definitely miss them.
- 17:21Speaker 8: I had a great relationship with Andrea too, and our
- 17:24Speaker 8: community is made better for the Guy family for sure.
- 17:28Speaker 5: Underrated Patriot, you know, agree all decade team Guy free
- 17:32Speaker 5: agent signing. That was kind of just really afterthought, Like
- 17:38Speaker 5: it wasn't like it was like a Stefan Gilmour level
- 17:40Speaker 5: signing right two thou seven, just.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Like really just have multiple teams, I mean in the
- 17:46Speaker 1: San Diego Baltimore, San Diego Baltimore, I mean just kicking
- 17:50Speaker 1: around and then seven years I think he missed five
- 17:52Speaker 1: quick matt five games and seven years all he missed
- 17:55Speaker 1: for that position.
- 17:56Speaker 5: He was really just everything that you would want in
- 17:59Speaker 5: a run defense, like take on double teams, could hold
- 18:02Speaker 5: a point of attack, could beat defeat a single team block.
- 18:06Speaker 5: He was exactly in their scheme, especially what you look
- 18:09Speaker 5: for in that three four you know, strongside and type
- 18:12Speaker 5: of position, and in that respect that that does sort
- 18:16Speaker 5: of create a hole, you know. And he did play
- 18:18Speaker 5: what almost fifty percent of the snaps last year, so
- 18:20Speaker 5: it wasn't like he wasn't playing you know, Adrian Phillips
- 18:23Speaker 5: love him too, but he wasn't really playing towards the
- 18:26Speaker 5: end of last year. Lawrence guy had a role on
- 18:28Speaker 5: this team of a year ago, so it does create
- 18:30Speaker 5: a hole.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Yeah, well, let's just talk Biefully, you know about Phillips,
- 18:33Speaker 1: which you know, like you said, just kind of became
- 18:35Speaker 1: a special team's only guy. I don't know if that
- 18:37Speaker 1: had to do with kind of Pepper's arrival, Mapu's arrival,
- 18:40Speaker 1: but I think even the writing was little bit on
- 18:42Speaker 1: the wall at the end of twenty twenty two where
- 18:43Speaker 1: it seemed like he wasn't really part of it anymore
- 18:45Speaker 1: on defense, which was just surprising. I mean, I thought
- 18:48Speaker 1: he was great in twenty twenty when he came in.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I mean, just the ideal kind of hybrid safety type
- 18:53Speaker 1: could play in the box a little bit. I think
- 18:54Speaker 1: just as they saw what Duggar and Peppers could do,
- 18:57Speaker 1: it seemed like, you know, kind of pushed Phillips out
- 18:59Speaker 1: and it just seems like he's kind of slowing down.
- 19:01Speaker 1: But he was another great guy who always willing to talk.
- 19:04Speaker 1: You know, his wife was one of the doctors as well.
- 19:06Speaker 1: We did plenty of features on him, so it's just,
- 19:08Speaker 1: you know, it's time marches on with these guys. But
- 19:11Speaker 1: they were, you know, some solid contributors, and Phillips was
- 19:14Speaker 1: a great guy. I don't know if we ever, you know,
- 19:16Speaker 1: got to like the pinnacle of what we thought we
- 19:18Speaker 1: might have gotten with him.
- 19:19Speaker 6: He sums it up as kind of like the perfect
- 19:22Speaker 6: like post Brady Patriot, Like he was just above average,
- 19:25Speaker 6: always there, available when you need him, Like all I
- 19:27Speaker 6: think about was was the pick six against San Diego
- 19:30Speaker 6: to La Chargers, But like good when you needed him.
- 19:33Speaker 6: But I think I think I'll latch on somewhere else,
- 19:35Speaker 6: you know.
- 19:35Speaker 5: But towards the end, Yeah, it's too bad that he
- 19:37Speaker 5: I feel like he would have been such a great
- 19:39Speaker 5: Dynasty Patriot because he's just a lunch paiale guy that
- 19:42Speaker 5: just did his job and honestly played linebacker most of
- 19:46Speaker 5: the time and played it at like two twenty, which
- 19:49Speaker 5: is like really difficult to do, really good job of
- 19:52Speaker 5: like understanding how to play within his skill set in
- 19:56Speaker 5: the box, which is not easy to do. And I
- 19:58Speaker 5: think a lot of these guys, Dugger, Jabriel, Peppers, even Mapu,
- 20:03Speaker 5: they Adrian Phillips sort of started a lot of those
- 20:05Speaker 5: trends in this Patriots defense and basically carved out the
- 20:10Speaker 5: role and those guys are maybe just a little bit
- 20:12Speaker 5: more dynamic, a little bit more athletic, and younger obviously
- 20:16Speaker 5: to take that to the next step. So it was
- 20:18Speaker 5: kind of like Patrick Chung was like the first iteration
- 20:21Speaker 5: of it. Then Adrian Phillips comes in. He started to
- 20:23Speaker 5: make it more of like a pseudo linebacker role, and
- 20:26Speaker 5: now those other guys are just doing it at a younger,
- 20:29Speaker 5: more explosive rate. But I think that he had a
- 20:32Speaker 5: big part of getting lighter, getting faster at the second level,
- 20:36Speaker 5: like a lot of those types of things from a
- 20:37Speaker 5: football perspective, where Adrian Phillips first and then you know,
- 20:41Speaker 5: the Duggers and the Peppers's of the world come after that.
- 20:44Speaker 5: So yeah, you know, last year, I think he played
- 20:47Speaker 5: nine snaps on defense after the bye, like he was
- 20:50Speaker 5: just he was an afterthought on defense. And you know,
- 20:54Speaker 5: I still think he can he can play though, you know,
- 20:56Speaker 5: still have a role on a fifty three man roster.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Yeah, le special teams to him, He's kind of a
- 20:59Speaker 1: special team's guy. He was, you know the guy. Yeah,
- 21:02Speaker 1: I mean that's another one which I think if Paul
- 21:05Speaker 1: was here. That's something you're like, all right, let's turn
- 21:06Speaker 1: over some of these special teams guys. Let's turn over,
- 21:09Speaker 1: you know, some of the older defensive linemen. Last bit
- 21:13Speaker 1: of of kind of recent news, though, was the full
- 21:16Speaker 1: not the full announcement of the coaching staff. I guess
- 21:18Speaker 1: it was just the new members of the coaching staff.
- 21:20Speaker 5: So we still still have a few Belichick era things
- 21:22Speaker 5: where like I had to fill in the gaps of like,
- 21:25Speaker 5: oh right, that guy's still under contract, and you know,
- 21:27Speaker 5: we couldn't just announce the whole coaching staff. Yeah, just
- 21:30Speaker 5: new editions.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Only we're still waiting on I guess Brian Belichick. Pelgrino
- 21:34Speaker 1: reportedly back, Troy Brown reportedly back from Doug Kyde in
- 21:37Speaker 1: some kind of role, you know, talking a little bit
- 21:40Speaker 1: with Evan though. I mean, Tyler Hughes is gonna come back.
- 21:43Speaker 1: He was here, he was away at Washington working with
- 21:45Speaker 1: some pretty good wide receivers.
- 21:47Speaker 5: That's the biggest thing for me with Tyler Hughes. It's like,
- 21:49Speaker 5: once we get an opportunity to talk about it, it's like,
- 21:52Speaker 5: all right, here's my list. Pennix dune't say, Polk, just
- 21:56Speaker 5: tell me everything. You know about these guys because you know,
- 21:59Speaker 5: he's a call control coach at Washington last year and
- 22:03Speaker 5: obviously was was very hands on with a lot of
- 22:06Speaker 5: these guys in the draft. You know, I mean, that
- 22:07Speaker 5: whole offense is going to get drafted somewhere. Yeah, so
- 22:10Speaker 5: you might as well pick his brain about those types
- 22:12Speaker 5: of things.
- 22:12Speaker 1: And it's a good one. I mean, I said, you know,
- 22:14Speaker 1: it felt like the Van Pelt offense was really that.
- 22:16Speaker 1: That's the big piece of this. Evan you know, wrote
- 22:18Speaker 1: up a really good write up on that, and you know,
- 22:20Speaker 1: it's hard to like analyze all these guys, but you know,
- 22:22Speaker 1: just kind of funny personal story to share, which I
- 22:24Speaker 1: was joking with Evan yesterday. We were talking about right up,
- 22:27Speaker 1: but Bob mcnell, the new tight Ends coach, was actually
- 22:29Speaker 1: went to my town's high school in the eighties and
- 22:32Speaker 1: like I watched him playing football growing up. Like he's
- 22:34Speaker 1: like our high school legend. His dad, his dad was
- 22:37Speaker 1: a coach at BC. But but Bob junior was was
- 22:39Speaker 1: a star at Holliston High School. Went on, he also
- 22:41Speaker 1: played at BC for a little bit Bridget School. So yeah,
- 22:44Speaker 1: so Bridget, so another Holliston, another Hollis.
- 22:46Speaker 5: He's got quite their resume, Like he's been around and
- 22:49Speaker 5: he's coached multiple receivers and tight ends, so he's got
- 22:53Speaker 5: he's got experience, and I think that that's one thing
- 22:55Speaker 5: you along with the just how large the staff is,
- 22:58Speaker 5: which I think stood out. Uh, some of these guys
- 23:00Speaker 5: that are maybe a little bit more inexperienced are then
- 23:03Speaker 5: supplemented by guys that are that are very experienced. On
- 23:07Speaker 5: the offensive sciety.
- 23:08Speaker 8: Of inexperienced guys, I thought it was kind of cool
- 23:10Speaker 8: a little. This isn't a huge hire by any means,
- 23:13Speaker 8: but it was cool to see Kobe Tippett on the staff.
- 23:17Speaker 8: I know we worked him out last year. I think
- 23:20Speaker 8: he was fresh out of college, but.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Yeah, he coached thet Toughts last year for.
- 23:23Speaker 8: A three year, so it's cool to see them bringing
- 23:26Speaker 8: him in trying to build them up.
- 23:27Speaker 3: We love the Nepple Highers.
- 23:29Speaker 9: First of all, it's cool to just see positions posted period, like.
- 23:33Speaker 6: From the website.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I agree literally, and I mean it's a it's a
- 23:36Speaker 1: big staff. You can't see my my nerdy board here,
- 23:39Speaker 1: but I mean it's you know, compared to what it was.
- 23:41Speaker 1: It's I mean, assistant coaches you've got quality control coaches,
- 23:44Speaker 1: something you didn't really have. And you know, to be honest,
- 23:47Speaker 1: like that feels like a little bit why we got
- 23:50Speaker 1: to where we were because the small coaching staff people left.
- 23:52Speaker 1: There was no one really to fill those shoes. Now,
- 23:56Speaker 1: you know, we know why Bill Belichick did that. He wanted,
- 23:58Speaker 1: you know, ease of communication. He didn't want to play
- 24:00Speaker 1: telephone through six different coaches to get to the players.
- 24:03Speaker 1: So this is a different approach, you know, is it
- 24:05Speaker 1: the right way? We'll see if Girodd's able to you know,
- 24:07Speaker 1: keep his menu through his menu his message is. But
- 24:11Speaker 1: you know, through all these different coaches who come from
- 24:12Speaker 1: a variety of different backgrounds and I know, you know
- 24:14Speaker 1: we've heard from Gerard a couple of times it's important
- 24:16Speaker 1: for him to have, you know, different points of view.
- 24:19Speaker 1: But you just, I think wonder, with such a diverse
- 24:21Speaker 1: array of experience of inexperience, how how hard is it
- 24:25Speaker 1: going to be to come to a consensus and really
- 24:27Speaker 1: you know, have a message that everybody's buying into When
- 24:30Speaker 1: you have a coaching staff this big of such you know,
- 24:32Speaker 1: diverse experience and backgrounds, and you know, it's it's just
- 24:36Speaker 1: it's interesting how it's gonna all come together. I'm sure
- 24:38Speaker 1: we'll get to meet these guys at some point, but
- 24:40Speaker 1: it's going to be it's gonna be a giant party.
- 24:41Speaker 1: There's like thirty coaches right.
- 24:44Speaker 5: The quality control positions I think are are underrated because
- 24:48Speaker 5: there's a lot of stuff, and the quality control coaches
- 24:51Speaker 5: are basically the interns of the coaching staff. It's like
- 24:53Speaker 5: all the leftover stuff that maybe position coaches don't have
- 24:57Speaker 5: time for or frankly don't want to do. Uh. Those
- 25:00Speaker 5: guys pick up the slack in those areas, And I
- 25:03Speaker 5: think that that's really important because towards the end of
- 25:06Speaker 5: last year, we heard a lot of reporting about how,
- 25:08Speaker 5: you know, the staff had gotten so small on the
- 25:10Speaker 5: offensive side of the ball that guys like Bill O'Brien
- 25:14Speaker 5: was like doing way more than an offensive coordinator probably
- 25:17Speaker 5: should be doing. And that just takes your focus away
- 25:20Speaker 5: from important things, or those things slip through the cracks,
- 25:23Speaker 5: the smaller things slip through the cracks and you don't
- 25:25Speaker 5: end up doing it. So quality control coaches on this
- 25:28Speaker 5: staff I think are are good to see. It just
- 25:30Speaker 5: adds just whatever leftovers there is that still need to
- 25:34Speaker 5: be picked up and whatever loose ends still need to
- 25:36Speaker 5: be tied. Those guys can sort of pick up some
- 25:38Speaker 5: of that slack.
- 25:39Speaker 6: I feel like the worst part is like now the
- 25:40Speaker 6: staff is pretty much put together, and now you're just
- 25:43Speaker 6: like I just wanted to start, you know, for the
- 25:44Speaker 6: past twenty five years, you're like, all right, we're gonna
- 25:46Speaker 6: Bill again. We have Tom, Like like I want, I'm anxious,
- 25:48Speaker 6: I can't wait.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Now now we have to build a whole new offense. Yeah.
- 25:52Speaker 6: But then after the draft, just.
- 25:56Speaker 1: A couple other you know, coaches just to highlight, you know,
- 25:59Speaker 1: Vinnie de Palma, who was just a linebacker of BC
- 26:01Speaker 1: last year, which I saw him play against my my
- 26:03Speaker 1: Holy Cross Crusaders, but you know, really active middle linebacker guy,
- 26:06Speaker 1: a little undersize. I think. So I'm not gonna you're
- 26:08Speaker 1: not gonna try to give the pro football route a try,
- 26:11Speaker 1: at least as a player. It's gonna come here as
- 26:13Speaker 1: you know, a young coach on the defensive side of
- 26:15Speaker 1: the ball. And then the last one is just you know,
- 26:17Speaker 1: Drew Wilkins. I mean, I love me them Ravens. I
- 26:19Speaker 1: feel like the Ravens always do a good job developing
- 26:22Speaker 1: outside linebackers at that level. That They've had a number
- 26:25Speaker 1: of really high quality players. We got Matthew Judon off
- 26:28Speaker 1: of them. We tried to get a daily as Thomas,
- 26:29Speaker 1: not that he was there back then, but but good
- 26:31Speaker 1: pedigree off of Wilkins and nice to kind of add
- 26:34Speaker 1: him to the mix with you know, we know what
- 26:35Speaker 1: we have in Covington. We know obviously we're gonna, you know,
- 26:38Speaker 1: have Covington back as the DC. But Brian Belichick, you know,
- 26:42Speaker 1: just some new blood there at the second level. I
- 26:44Speaker 1: like that.
- 26:44Speaker 5: Yeah, him and Jerry Richardson writer, No, not Richardson.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Montgomery. Yeah, that's the that's another.
- 26:50Speaker 5: That's the Carolina Panthers owner that did not end well
- 26:53Speaker 5: in Carolina. To Montgomery, though, is a good I think
- 26:57Speaker 5: a good higher because of how well some of those
- 27:00Speaker 5: interior guys on the Green Bay Packers defensive line have
- 27:03Speaker 5: developed over the years. You know, Daniels, Kenny Clark, like
- 27:06Speaker 5: those types of guys, and you look at like a
- 27:08Speaker 5: Christian Barmore and trying to get him to like that
- 27:11Speaker 5: Kenny Clark level of consistency. Maybe he can help him
- 27:15Speaker 5: out to get there as well. So I really, when
- 27:18Speaker 5: I look at the defensive side, the thing that really
- 27:21Speaker 5: stands out to me though, is that they kept that
- 27:23Speaker 5: secondary intact. You know, Brian Belichick and Mike Pellegrino coming back,
- 27:27Speaker 5: I think is huge because you know, Covington and Mayo
- 27:30Speaker 5: are going to coach the front seven and they're going
- 27:31Speaker 5: to have that under wraps, but how they're going to
- 27:34Speaker 5: cover and making sure that that coverage system stays consistent.
- 27:37Speaker 5: I thought it was important. And Pellegrino, you know, Brian
- 27:40Speaker 5: obviously think we know a little bit about because of
- 27:42Speaker 5: his dad. But Pellegrino has really taken a lot of
- 27:45Speaker 5: corners and made them into some pretty productive players, going
- 27:49Speaker 5: all the way back to like j. C. Jackson and
- 27:51Speaker 5: early on in his career, but even last year, like
- 27:53Speaker 5: he pulls like Alex Austin off his couch and he
- 27:55Speaker 5: ends up being like a solid player for them down
- 27:58Speaker 5: the stretch. Like those things are are are you know,
- 28:01Speaker 5: shouldn't be understated. Like that's hard to do to get
- 28:04Speaker 5: some guy like up and running like that like they
- 28:06Speaker 5: did with the player like Alex Austin and like.
- 28:08Speaker 1: You mean you mentioned like guys that you're not really
- 28:10Speaker 1: expecting anything. I mean, he's done it with a number
- 28:12Speaker 1: of undrafted guys to come in and contributed. But I
- 28:14Speaker 1: thought what was most interesting was when we talked about
- 28:16Speaker 1: it going in, was like, all right, now he's got
- 28:18Speaker 1: a super elite athlete in Christian Gonzalez, Like, what does
- 28:21Speaker 1: it look like when he takes this guy in? You know,
- 28:23Speaker 1: obviously he was cut short, but in that small sample size,
- 28:26Speaker 1: he looked like legit player, looked like he was, you know,
- 28:28Speaker 1: getting it immediately, able to make plays on the ball
- 28:31Speaker 1: right out of the gate as a rookie corner. So
- 28:33Speaker 1: so I agree with Pelogrino some real crime.
- 28:35Speaker 5: I mean one of the knocks on Gonzales coming out
- 28:37Speaker 5: was you know, getting a little bit lost in his
- 28:39Speaker 5: own coverage at times and not necessarily being keyed into
- 28:42Speaker 5: the structure, and that was not an issue out of
- 28:44Speaker 5: the game for him, And I think that that speaks
- 28:46Speaker 5: to coaching, Like we always knew that he was going
- 28:48Speaker 5: to cover people what man to man, that was not
- 28:49Speaker 5: going to be a concern. But there was you know,
- 28:52Speaker 5: evidence on Oregon's film that he would get a little
- 28:54Speaker 5: bit lost in space at times and instantly that was
- 28:56Speaker 5: not an issue.
- 28:57Speaker 1: I think of the interception he had on on Tua, right, yeah,
- 29:00Speaker 1: I mean dropping out and you know, picking it off
- 29:02Speaker 1: a nice one. So that's that. Of course, the Dynasty
- 29:05Speaker 1: is out episodes one and two. We recorded a what
- 29:09Speaker 1: is it the Dynasty Recap podcast? I think the title
- 29:13Speaker 1: is a no no way. It's the Dynasty Doc Recap pod.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Recad podcast. Dynasty Dynasty Doc Recap podcast. Say that twelve
- 29:23Speaker 1: times fast.
- 29:24Speaker 5: But we have that.
- 29:25Speaker 1: We released that right after the episodes are dropped on
- 29:27Speaker 1: Thursday night, I think about nine o'clock Thursdays. Well, it
- 29:29Speaker 1: looks like these things are going to come out, so
- 29:31Speaker 1: I don't know if all you guys have had a
- 29:33Speaker 1: chance to watch those two more episodes coming out that'll
- 29:35Speaker 1: take us through spygate. You know, one of my one
- 29:38Speaker 1: of my criticisms coming up is not not a lot
- 29:40Speaker 1: of time spent on thirty eight and thirty nine those
- 29:42Speaker 1: Super Bowls and then they want a couple more and
- 29:44Speaker 1: it was great and now let's get to the controversy.
- 29:46Speaker 1: But uh, but overall, any thoughts from you guys just
- 29:49Speaker 1: on those on those first couple of episodes, I don't
- 29:50Speaker 1: know if everybody's had a chance. I know, Evan, you
- 29:52Speaker 1: just you had a chance to watch it.
- 29:53Speaker 5: I watched it pretty much instantly, and I would just
- 29:56Speaker 5: say that it was really cool. You know, we're talking
- 29:58Speaker 5: about a bit, a little bit about this before we
- 30:01Speaker 5: started recording. I not to make anybody feel old, but
- 30:04Speaker 5: I was only nine years old in two thousand and one,
- 30:06Speaker 5: So I was a kid, and I remember, but obviously
- 30:10Speaker 5: as a nine year old, like, you're not really like
- 30:12Speaker 5: what we are now where we like know every single
- 30:14Speaker 5: detail about the team. So it was cool to like
- 30:18Speaker 5: be able to see it now as an adult and
- 30:20Speaker 5: start to understand a little bit better about what was
- 30:23Speaker 5: going on back then. And all I remember as a
- 30:26Speaker 5: as a kid was being so devastated about Drew it
- 30:29Speaker 5: bledsoe And like, I think they did a great job
- 30:32Speaker 5: of painting that picture of this was the guy, like
- 30:36Speaker 5: this is a former number one overall pick, you know,
- 30:39Speaker 5: one hundred million dollar quarterback. They hadn't been super successful
- 30:43Speaker 5: with him as a team, but and he had all
- 30:45Speaker 5: of the tools as a player to be an all
- 30:48Speaker 5: time great quarterback. And you just it wasn't that easy,
- 30:52Speaker 5: Like it wasn't for Bill to make that decision, Like
- 30:55Speaker 5: that was not an easy decision that I don't think
- 30:58Speaker 5: a lot of coaches would have made. I think most
- 31:00Speaker 5: coaches probably would have been went back to Drew blood cell.
- 31:02Speaker 5: So watching that whole thing again was was crazy.
- 31:05Speaker 1: I just realized I should probably talk to Barth about
- 31:08Speaker 1: this because Barth is the helmet guy, and that thatking Brady.
- 31:13Speaker 5: Het acts like he like lived through the nineties Patriots,
- 31:17Speaker 5: like he was like a flowbone adult. I'm like you,
- 31:20Speaker 5: how do you know this much about the nineties Patriots?
- 31:22Speaker 5: You were four? Like, I don't under that's.
- 31:24Speaker 6: Such a bad bucket look off.
- 31:28Speaker 1: No, we saw the picture that I'm like, if Brady
- 31:29Speaker 1: tried to wear this helmet his career, he would they
- 31:32Speaker 1: would have gone black and blood.
- 31:33Speaker 6: See. So I'll say I watched it, actually watched with
- 31:36Speaker 6: a friend who's not past fantamic football guy, and he
- 31:38Speaker 6: was locked in. But how many times have we heard
- 31:40Speaker 6: these stories like you know, the snowball, the kick like Vinitaria,
- 31:44Speaker 6: you can't ice him. I'm the best decision you made,
- 31:46Speaker 6: And every single time it's just so good, Like every
- 31:49Speaker 6: single time and watched.
- 31:50Speaker 1: It, it's the best.
- 31:51Speaker 6: And then I'll talk about this with Evan too, the
- 31:54Speaker 6: part that's like the late nineties early thousands, like they
- 31:56Speaker 6: have a press conference at mass General Hospital to talk
- 31:59Speaker 6: about like they would never do that now.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Oh my god, it's crazy. But we'll let you know
- 32:04Speaker 1: when when we have something update, like the hospital, Like,
- 32:06Speaker 1: let's all go to the hospital. Media.
- 32:08Speaker 8: Imagine if Twitter and like the Internet and sports media
- 32:11Speaker 8: as it is now, if it was like thriving.
- 32:13Speaker 6: Back, it'd be crazy.
- 32:14Speaker 5: I know.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Oh, I mean you could go through Patriots like the
- 32:17Speaker 1: last twenty years of like imagine spygate was on Twitter. Oh,
- 32:21Speaker 1: I mean we got it a little bit with deflate Gate.
- 32:23Speaker 1: I guess that was the peak.
- 32:24Speaker 8: That was peak sports Twitter was when deflate was out.
- 32:27Speaker 8: That's why it became such a mess.
- 32:29Speaker 1: In my opinion, I feel like Twitter turned like twenty
- 32:32Speaker 1: twelve twenty thirteens when it went from just like a
- 32:34Speaker 1: little place to kind of meet up with like minded
- 32:36Speaker 1: people that make jokes and kind of communicate, and like
- 32:38Speaker 1: it's so completely useless now for anything real time, you
- 32:41Speaker 1: like log in and you're like from yesterday the start
- 32:44Speaker 1: of the third period with the bruinsot to start, I'm
- 32:46Speaker 1: like like, what, like this is no longer useful? Used
- 32:50Speaker 1: to be like do you got to go to the
- 32:51Speaker 1: following side right where it's up to date?
- 32:53Speaker 8: Know?
- 32:53Speaker 9: Well, yeah, then now it's like a newspaper, you wake up,
- 32:58Speaker 9: you open it, and you get caught up what happens.
- 33:01Speaker 1: That's pretty much.
- 33:02Speaker 5: I just I don't remember which newspaper was to bring
- 33:04Speaker 5: it back to the dynasty, but I do remember, like
- 33:07Speaker 5: the picture of the ambulance that was carrying Drew bledsoe
- 33:11Speaker 5: like going into the hospital, and I just I don't again,
- 33:15Speaker 5: like you just as a kid, the stakes were not
- 33:17Speaker 5: you don't understand you know, like you don't understand that
- 33:21Speaker 5: first of all, this guy is has internal bleeding and
- 33:23Speaker 5: like is in a serious, serious situation medically, but you
- 33:27Speaker 5: also just don't understand the stakes of the decision to
- 33:30Speaker 5: stick with Brady and all that kind of stuff. And
- 33:32Speaker 5: I thought it was cool to like understand that now
- 33:35Speaker 5: as as an adult. And you know, it's a little
- 33:38Speaker 5: disappointing to hear that there's not much football after this, though.
- 33:42Speaker 1: I know that's I mean, that is I mean, that's
- 33:44Speaker 1: what we kind of said about in the recap show
- 33:45Speaker 1: was that for Patriots fans would probably want this to
- 33:48Speaker 1: be one thing and it's not that it's you know,
- 33:50Speaker 1: kind of an external point of view on this run.
- 33:53Speaker 1: And you know, I still think they could have found
- 33:55Speaker 1: a spot for winning twenty one straight games and you know,
- 33:57Speaker 1: make a little bit more, you know, I mean coming
- 34:01Speaker 1: out of two thousand and three, just because it was
- 34:02Speaker 1: it wasn't just a continuation of two thousand and one
- 34:05Speaker 1: into two thousand and three. It wasn't just oh this
- 34:07Speaker 1: is this Like they really like took a half step
- 34:10Speaker 1: back in OH two and really changed their team and
- 34:13Speaker 1: O three and became you know, not just like up
- 34:16Speaker 1: the sparky little up, you know, upstart little underdogs. They
- 34:20Speaker 1: became a dominant team that could beat you anyway. Like
- 34:23Speaker 1: we got to beat you nine nothing will beat you
- 34:24Speaker 1: nine nothing. We got to beat you thirty seven, thirty four,
- 34:26Speaker 1: We'll do that too.
- 34:28Speaker 4: You know.
- 34:28Speaker 1: It's just I think those two teams were really special
- 34:31Speaker 1: in my mind, and I'm sure plenty of Patriots fans
- 34:33Speaker 1: out there have, you know, plenty of very special memories
- 34:35Speaker 1: from those two teams and how good they were, and
- 34:37Speaker 1: you know, the big games and just that stuff's just
- 34:39Speaker 1: kind of glanced over. You know, it's barely even mentioned,
- 34:42Speaker 1: you know, not to mention, just like the playoff run,
- 34:45Speaker 1: I mean going you know, losing to Pittsburgh, going back
- 34:47Speaker 1: to Pittsburgh.
- 34:48Speaker 8: But and to that point, there's so many fans, like
- 34:50Speaker 8: like our age group, where what I remember from like
- 34:53Speaker 8: the one Super Bowl was being in kindergarten and going
- 34:56Speaker 8: to school and people were talking about the groundhogs seeing
- 34:59Speaker 8: their shot out, and I was like, who cares about
- 35:01Speaker 8: the groundhog? The Patriots won the Super Bowl, But like
- 35:04Speaker 8: that was the extent of my memory. So if they
- 35:07Speaker 8: had dog more into that and shown us more of that,
- 35:11Speaker 8: it would have been so cool for I think the
- 35:13Speaker 8: twenty somethings.
- 35:15Speaker 6: Three what I was about to like, yeah, exactly.
- 35:19Speaker 5: I also have to ask, like, how do you not
- 35:21Speaker 5: get asked to be the super fans in these days?
- 35:23Speaker 5: Like weeks.
- 35:27Speaker 8: Did we see Kara in the first two episodes Kara
- 35:30Speaker 8: Doolittle is she was interviewed for it.
- 35:33Speaker 3: I don't know if she makes the Final.
- 35:34Speaker 5: Cup seriously, like and then like Paul Perrillo and Drew Bledsoe,
- 35:38Speaker 5: that would have been it.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Would be too mushy, would exactly.
- 35:42Speaker 5: That's the point.
- 35:43Speaker 1: I feel like I should have won my bloods and
- 35:44Speaker 1: jersey today, Like it's just I've been looking for an
- 35:46Speaker 1: excuse to wear it because it's a reversible, it's the
- 35:48Speaker 1: nineties one that everybody loves I could wear like I
- 35:50Speaker 1: could wear white for the first half and then flipping
- 35:52Speaker 1: over for blue the second half. Everyone would be really excited.
- 35:55Speaker 1: I probably wait for Paul to be here though, But
- 35:58Speaker 1: just quick aside, funny people are emailing the show and uh,
- 36:01Speaker 1: somebody's getting back Fred's out of office, just trying to
- 36:08Speaker 1: email the show.
- 36:08Speaker 3: But well, Fred does always the reply to all.
- 36:14Speaker 5: He's a big reply.
- 36:17Speaker 3: Emails.
- 36:18Speaker 8: I need to let people in on them too, because
- 36:20Speaker 8: he'll put everything he wants to be said in the
- 36:23Speaker 8: subject of the email. Yeah, there'll be no text in
- 36:25Speaker 8: the favorite thing.
- 36:27Speaker 3: It's my favorite thing.
- 36:28Speaker 9: Oh my god.
- 36:29Speaker 1: So I don't know. Maybe Cody was emailing him directly
- 36:32Speaker 1: and got that. So I hopefully other everyone else isn't getting.
- 36:34Speaker 6: Fred's up all the hotel.
- 36:38Speaker 1: I hope Fred is on a beach somewhere and just
- 36:40Speaker 1: you know, taking it all in and relaxing, but kind
- 36:42Speaker 1: of set the stage here, so you know, give us
- 36:44Speaker 1: a Calliff Pasts five hundred. Love to hear from everybody
- 36:47Speaker 1: what you guys are thinking out there of the Dynasty
- 36:50Speaker 1: doc and you know, two more episodes coming up as
- 36:52Speaker 1: we and I have to, like I say, like, I'm
- 36:54Speaker 1: kind of more interested in this stuff. Like I feel
- 36:55Speaker 1: like I'm so locked in on one oh three those
- 36:58Speaker 1: things lately that like I want to get into the
- 37:00Speaker 1: new perspectives I've kind of heard that, you know, as
- 37:02Speaker 1: much as we saw some new footage in those ones.
- 37:04Speaker 1: I want to see the new stuff. I want to
- 37:05Speaker 1: hear them talk about, you know, as much as the
- 37:07Speaker 1: controversy at the end. And I know it's not football,
- 37:09Speaker 1: but like, let's see if we get Bill out of
- 37:12Speaker 1: press conference mode, Like it just felt like the whole
- 37:14Speaker 1: that whole episode, he's just kind of going to.
- 37:15Speaker 5: Be honest with you, he seemed disinterested, yeah.
- 37:18Speaker 1: And doing it or even like didn't want to be
- 37:21Speaker 1: doing it.
- 37:21Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 37:22Speaker 5: I just the one thing I will say, like I
- 37:25Speaker 5: know this is gonna maybe come off as is kind
- 37:27Speaker 5: of like you know, company guy. But it's like really
- 37:30Speaker 5: frustrating to me that we have to make this Dynasty
- 37:34Speaker 5: doc about how the how craft hates Bill, Like like
- 37:38Speaker 5: why do we can't we just enjoy it? Like can't
- 37:40Speaker 5: we just reminisce about like the good times and not
- 37:45Speaker 5: look into every single little comment and be like, oh
- 37:48Speaker 5: that was a dig at Bill, like who cares? Like,
- 37:51Speaker 5: or just just watch it and enjoy it, like we
- 37:54Speaker 5: had an unprecedented twenty year run that's never gonna be replicated.
- 37:58Speaker 5: And this is a documentary that's all all four Patriots
- 38:01Speaker 5: fans to just reminisce and have fun, like remembering the
- 38:04Speaker 5: good old days. And I like go on Twitter and
- 38:06Speaker 5: every single article is like this Ben vole and this
- 38:09Speaker 5: should have been called kill Bill, Like really, like I
- 38:13Speaker 5: just maybe I just have rose colored classes. But in
- 38:15Speaker 5: the first two episodes, I didn't didn't really feel that way.
- 38:18Speaker 5: It was controversial for him not to go back to
- 38:21Speaker 5: Blood Cell, Like I don't know what else you wanted
- 38:23Speaker 5: him to say, Like they just paid him one hundred
- 38:25Speaker 5: million dollars, so he was the highest paid quarterback in
- 38:27Speaker 5: NFL history. Not going back to Drew Bledsoe and sticking
- 38:31Speaker 5: with a sixth round pick who was in his second
- 38:33Speaker 5: year in the NFL and had like three starts under
- 38:35Speaker 5: his belt was controversial. Well, it has nothing to do
- 38:39Speaker 5: with anybody hating anybody. It just is a fact.
- 38:41Speaker 1: If he had just made it, took the easy way
- 38:43Speaker 1: out there, if there might not have been a Tom Brady,
- 38:45Speaker 1: you know, but I just said, let's put Drew back
- 38:46Speaker 1: in and you lose in the playoffs and who knows
- 38:48Speaker 1: what ends up happening to Tommy b Just.
- 38:51Speaker 5: Enjoy it, like, don't make it about all of this.
- 38:53Speaker 8: Well, what's interesting you say that because having only I
- 38:56Speaker 8: haven't gotten my hands on an Apple TV log and
- 38:59Speaker 8: yet that's really subscribed.
- 39:02Speaker 3: Yeah I could.
- 39:04Speaker 1: I haven't broken into the.
- 39:06Speaker 3: No, I'm just kidding. I don't do that, not anymore
- 39:09Speaker 3: at least.
- 39:10Speaker 8: But it's interesting you say that, because I feel like
- 39:12Speaker 8: that really is all the conversation I've heard about it.
- 39:16Speaker 3: Is it painting Bill unfairly?
- 39:18Speaker 1: Is it's just because the wounds are fresh? I mean,
- 39:19Speaker 1: I think that's inevitably. That's that's what everybody wants to
- 39:22Speaker 1: talk about right now? Is was it Bill? And you know,
- 39:25Speaker 1: was it tom and all that?
- 39:26Speaker 8: And do you think they're kicking themselves, the Apple production crew,
- 39:29Speaker 8: for not maybe waiting a little longer just now that
- 39:32Speaker 8: this is all played out?
- 39:33Speaker 1: And I mean, in some ways, I think it's perfect
- 39:35Speaker 1: that it happened right when Bill left here, and that
- 39:38Speaker 1: was kind of the you know, like a really hard
- 39:40Speaker 1: stop to the dynasty. I mean, not that you know,
- 39:42Speaker 1: it was still a dynasty when they left, But I
- 39:46Speaker 1: don't know. I think I feel like I need to
- 39:48Speaker 1: see the whole thing. I'm very curious how how it
- 39:50Speaker 1: all plays out, especially.
- 39:53Speaker 5: Some of the later episodes of it are where the
- 39:57Speaker 5: shots that Bill really start to come out, because that's
- 40:00Speaker 5: covers Brady leaving and the downfall of it, and so
- 40:04Speaker 5: a lot of these people you know that I that
- 40:06Speaker 5: are getting it in the media are getting like sneak
- 40:09Speaker 5: peaks of like the whole ten episodes, and so I
- 40:12Speaker 5: think a lot of this that's coming out is about
- 40:14Speaker 5: the end of the documentary.
- 40:16Speaker 1: He was like a Tom quote I think that we've
- 40:17Speaker 1: heard of him saying basically he was not going to
- 40:20Speaker 1: resign here no matter what. Yeah, there's Danny a. Mondola
- 40:25Speaker 1: we played for Tom, or we worked for Bill, we
- 40:27Speaker 1: played for Tom. There's the line from Robert Kraft saying
- 40:31Speaker 1: I was just trying to hold it all together, which
- 40:32Speaker 1: you know, we kind of speculated was that really even
- 40:34Speaker 1: about that? But sounds like it is, So yeah, that's
- 40:37Speaker 1: the you know, that's the I mean, I think we
- 40:39Speaker 1: mostly know it all. I just I just wonder if
- 40:42Speaker 1: we're gonna come out of this for people like us
- 40:43Speaker 1: who have been you know, we're obviously ingrained in this
- 40:46Speaker 1: and it's our daily life. We've lived it. Is there
- 40:48Speaker 1: any gonna be anything new or aha or because so
- 40:52Speaker 1: far I haven't really had any new aha moments. I've
- 40:54Speaker 1: had some.
- 40:54Speaker 5: You're a very unique perspective. You know very much about all.
- 41:00Speaker 6: But it's so true.
- 41:00Speaker 8: Like I remember watching those like the things you guys
- 41:04Speaker 8: would produce before I worked here, like after the Super Bowls,
- 41:07Speaker 8: and just like those those features, it was like a
- 41:11Speaker 8: high you got watching them and learning like every little detail.
- 41:14Speaker 3: It was so cool.
- 41:15Speaker 8: It was one of the funnest parts and whenever, like
- 41:17Speaker 8: one of those not that people really write long form
- 41:19Speaker 8: features like this anymore, but when you get those good
- 41:23Speaker 8: long forms about just being around Brady and the team dynamics,
- 41:27Speaker 8: it was like I could not get my hands on
- 41:30Speaker 8: that stuff fast enough.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Yeah, me too. I mean that's the whole like three
- 41:33Speaker 1: Games to Glory that they did. Oh, that's exactly what
- 41:35Speaker 1: I mean. That was amazing. I mean that's every game
- 41:38Speaker 1: they did commentary, they had all the behind the scenes stuff.
- 41:41Speaker 1: I mean, I mean I never I own all six
- 41:43Speaker 1: of them. I never in a million years would have
- 41:45Speaker 1: like thought I would be working for you know, Matt
- 41:47Speaker 1: Smith and the people that were heavily involved in producing
- 41:50Speaker 1: those and then came to do your jobs, which they
- 41:52Speaker 1: did I think for the last three, which again just
- 41:55Speaker 1: you know, those are the things that I always lived for.
- 41:57Speaker 1: With you know, America's game, it kind of was what
- 41:59Speaker 1: it was. That's a little bit more mainstream and you'd have,
- 42:02Speaker 1: you know, a few guys kind of recap the season.
- 42:03Speaker 1: But the specialty produced stuff, you got so much behind
- 42:06Speaker 1: the pink stripes with Ernie Adams, there was so much
- 42:09Speaker 1: good stuff. So it's like it's hard, You're right, Evan,
- 42:11Speaker 1: I mean we I'm like waiting for any little bit,
- 42:13Speaker 1: like like if there's a Bill Belichick miked up moment
- 42:15Speaker 1: I missed, I'm like, I don't, I gotta see it.
- 42:17Speaker 5: Did you see Have you seen the footage from the
- 42:19Speaker 5: draft room? I had never seen that. I'm putting the
- 42:22Speaker 5: call in to Brady, I don't. I had never seen that.
- 42:25Speaker 5: And obviously i'd never seen the apartment footage. Okay, that
- 42:29Speaker 5: was new.
- 42:30Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:30Speaker 5: But but in terms of the story, like what are
- 42:32Speaker 5: they really going to tell Patriots dot com employees.
- 42:35Speaker 1: About the story.
- 42:36Speaker 6: What about just the difference of like the early thousands
- 42:39Speaker 6: NFL of like your first round Picks are in a
- 42:42Speaker 6: motel on Route one, Like.
- 42:46Speaker 5: That wasn't that wasn't a great look. But that's been
- 42:50Speaker 5: kind of really help our case.
- 42:52Speaker 1: It's like part of the mystique of those Patriots were
- 42:54Speaker 1: like you know, Rodny Harrison getting taken to like the
- 42:56Speaker 1: ground round like it was like, no, we just we
- 42:57Speaker 1: don't worry about football. We're just crappy hotel, crappy restaurants,
- 43:01Speaker 1: a small town. But now that we have beautiful Patriot
- 43:04Speaker 1: place here, you can you know, you can go to
- 43:06Speaker 1: Davos if you want.
- 43:07Speaker 6: You're putting Christian Gonzales in the holiday and like.
- 43:11Speaker 3: The seaport wasn't.
- 43:14Speaker 1: What it was.
- 43:15Speaker 5: Yeah, boy, Like the ty Law stuff with Brady in
- 43:18Speaker 5: the apartment the condo, like I just ate that stuff up.
- 43:21Speaker 1: I was like, this is hilarious.
- 43:23Speaker 5: Like Tylaw thinks that he left like one hundred and
- 43:25Speaker 5: fifty thousand dollars worth of furnacing around. I mean like
- 43:28Speaker 5: that that's that's the type of stuff that like they're
- 43:31Speaker 5: not gonna tell us anything new about the story of
- 43:33Speaker 5: that of the two thousand and one Patriots, like we
- 43:35Speaker 5: all know that, but the behind the scenes stuff of
- 43:37Speaker 5: like the relationships and and that kind of stuff. That
- 43:40Speaker 5: was that was fun.
- 43:41Speaker 1: No, we don't need to hear about lay like getting
- 43:43Speaker 1: cut now. I mean you have him in the first
- 43:44Speaker 1: two episodes, like I mean he's like thickest thieves with
- 43:47Speaker 1: ty Law, like they seem like they're like the two
- 43:49Speaker 1: boys who are running the show. And now it's like,
- 43:51Speaker 1: oh yeah, by the way, they didn't cut them into
- 43:52Speaker 1: it was the whole thing. Don't worry about it.
- 43:55Speaker 5: I will. On the other I will say Ernie Adams
- 43:57Speaker 5: did hurt my feelings a little bit, like he brought
- 43:59Speaker 5: it back. Yeah, he brought it back. He brought it
- 44:01Speaker 5: back around, Like I was like, all right, he kind
- 44:03Speaker 5: of you know, he was great in this, so he was.
- 44:05Speaker 5: But yeah, saying that we don't know anything, like okay.
- 44:09Speaker 6: What about the produced piece of him driving to the stadium.
- 44:11Speaker 5: Perfect, perfect, the snow's falling. I mean it's great, it's
- 44:15Speaker 5: exactly what I don't know, a camera there. He was.
- 44:20Speaker 5: He was great, He was awesome.
- 44:21Speaker 1: I mean, he's just all in and for coming up
- 44:25Speaker 1: to he's he's heavily involved in the Spygate episode as well.
- 44:28Speaker 1: So that's uh, that that that's some more Ernie fun
- 44:31Speaker 1: who Uh, it's funny because I still remember the time
- 44:33Speaker 1: when Ernie was this mysterious figure that you didn't really
- 44:35Speaker 1: ever hear anything about. I think they wrote an article
- 44:38Speaker 1: about him maybe around seven o eight somewhere in there
- 44:40Speaker 1: about like.
- 44:40Speaker 8: The pink stripes the first time. Yeah, I remember him
- 44:44Speaker 8: even being on my rightar.
- 44:45Speaker 1: ESPN. Thing was like who's the genius behind the genius?
- 44:48Speaker 1: And you know, they just talked about him going back
- 44:50Speaker 1: to high school with Bill and you know the connections
- 44:53Speaker 1: that they they had had when Ernie had already like
- 44:55Speaker 1: read Bill's dad's football book and now you know, and
- 44:57Speaker 1: then they formed a friendship. So he's he's, he's But
- 45:01Speaker 1: suddenly now we can't get enough Ernie, Like he's everywhere.
- 45:04Speaker 1: He's in documentaries, he's in our schedule, release video, It's
- 45:07Speaker 1: like anywhere you want Ernie. He's not no longer man
- 45:09Speaker 1: a mystery.
- 45:09Speaker 5: Not to take anything away from Belichick, but how much
- 45:13Speaker 5: of all this was actually was Ernie like as well
- 45:16Speaker 5: as really come up to in light I think with
- 45:19Speaker 5: this doc because he wasn't the public figure of it all.
- 45:24Speaker 5: But it just seems like Belichick having that consickliary to
- 45:29Speaker 5: like do all you know, the nitty gritty detail work.
- 45:32Speaker 5: You know, we've all seen the Malcolm Butler like interception
- 45:35Speaker 5: break down of hour and he like found that play
- 45:38Speaker 5: and like Seattle's goal line package, and that's how they
- 45:42Speaker 5: were prepared for like those types of things. I think
- 45:44Speaker 5: that when Ernie retired like that, you felt it it
- 45:49Speaker 5: was instantaneous that they weren't as detailed as they were before. Yeah,
- 45:54Speaker 5: they just didn't have that attention to detail that they
- 45:57Speaker 5: did when he was around. So we started to talk
- 45:59Speaker 5: about like pillars at the success. Obviously, Brady and Belichick
- 46:03Speaker 5: are on their own like tier there, but in terms
- 46:06Speaker 5: of Tier two guys, I start to come in like
- 46:09Speaker 5: Ernie along with you know, Dante Scarnekio obviously too, but
- 46:12Speaker 5: like Ernie is very high up there.
- 46:14Speaker 1: I think, Yeah, I wonder some of the little curveballs
- 46:16Speaker 1: they threw over the years, like how many of them
- 46:19Speaker 1: kind of started with Ernie, you know, like yeah, the
- 46:21Speaker 1: Denver O three when they snapped the ball out of
- 46:23Speaker 1: the end zone, the Shenanigans in twenty fourteen with you know,
- 46:28Speaker 1: eligible offensive lineman against the Ravens. You know, just how
- 46:31Speaker 1: many of those things were Like Ernie in the middle
- 46:33Speaker 1: of the week could go with the bill and be
- 46:34Speaker 1: like a you know, like I'm a problem here if
- 46:36Speaker 1: we get it after our offense of linemen knocking out
- 46:38Speaker 1: with that's my but yeah, no, you're right, You're right.
- 46:42Speaker 6: He was.
- 46:42Speaker 1: He was definitely a big part of it from behind
- 46:45Speaker 1: the scenes. Let's jump over the phones real quick. Jason's
- 46:48Speaker 1: been holding on for a while and I want to
- 46:50Speaker 1: get to him here before we break for Paul's lunch. Hey, Jason,
- 46:52Speaker 1: what's going on? Jason? You there, we're talking to you.
- 46:58Speaker 1: You're Ron. Thanks for calling. What's up? Cork? So what's up?
- 47:05Speaker 11: So?
- 47:06Speaker 12: I got a weird hill you guys. I feel like
- 47:10Speaker 12: you're overvaluating the quarterback. And I know it sounds weird
- 47:13Speaker 12: to say, especially coming from where we all did. Yeah,
- 47:17Speaker 12: but it's uh, you got eleven people playing in every play,
- 47:23Speaker 12: and you can't play eleven on ten. You just lose
- 47:26Speaker 12: every single time. I feel like we're giving the I
- 47:30Speaker 12: don't know, the margin of importance to the quarterback the
- 47:34Speaker 12: sort of I don't know, overweened estimation of how just
- 47:42Speaker 12: dreadfully important this person is.
- 47:44Speaker 1: So what do you feel you feel like with the draft?
- 47:46Speaker 1: You mean or just generally.
- 47:51Speaker 12: Well in the.
- 47:51Speaker 13: Draft in particular.
- 47:52Speaker 12: I guess that's the situation that we're in right now,
- 47:54Speaker 12: where you know, we're looking to improve the team and
- 47:58Speaker 12: the first and only thing is the quarterback. Kevin sure,
- 48:01Speaker 12: I get that we don't we don't really have a quarterback.
- 48:05Speaker 12: That's fine, and improving a positions where you don't have
- 48:08Speaker 12: some good solution, that's obviously where we should be looking.
- 48:12Speaker 12: But it's not like we don't have any other holes
- 48:15Speaker 12: on the roster and we can't improve in other ways.
- 48:18Speaker 1: So you'd be team take a take a tackle a
- 48:22Speaker 1: wide receiver that you truly believe in, rather than taking
- 48:26Speaker 1: a swing at a quarterback that you might not believe
- 48:28Speaker 1: in just because he's a quarterback.
- 48:30Speaker 12: Right, Well, we have a lot of holes, we have
- 48:32Speaker 12: a lot of places to upgrade, We have a lot
- 48:36Speaker 12: of different directions that we could go, a lot of
- 48:38Speaker 12: areas where we don't really feel like we can rely
- 48:40Speaker 12: on the roster to get it done for us. So
- 48:44Speaker 12: it just makes more sense to be it in two.
- 48:46Speaker 12: It's better that we would look to the area where
- 48:51Speaker 12: we can most reliably upgrade the position. And I don't
- 48:56Speaker 12: think that necessarily has to be quarterback.
- 48:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I mean, yeah, no, go ahead, let
- 49:04Speaker 1: you finish.
- 49:04Speaker 12: No, it's just, you know, the quarterback has the ball
- 49:09Speaker 12: on every play. I understand that. You know, if we're
- 49:12Speaker 12: dividing it up into you know, each play into whatever
- 49:15Speaker 12: ten percent or you know, a little bit less than
- 49:18Speaker 12: ten percent importance for each position, that maybe you know
- 49:23Speaker 12: a couple of the percentage points of the guard's influence
- 49:27Speaker 12: on the play, the left guard of the right guard's
- 49:29Speaker 12: influence on the play has to go to the quarterback.
- 49:33Speaker 12: But it's not as though we could win playing eleven
- 49:36Speaker 12: on ten.
- 49:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I gotcha. Thanks, Jase, appreciate calling in. I
- 49:41Speaker 1: mean it's probably something we're all kind of talking about.
- 49:43Speaker 1: I mean, that's you know, I think generally if Drake
- 49:45Speaker 1: may or Caleb Williams were to fall to three, I
- 49:47Speaker 1: don't think really there'd be much hesitation for most Patriot
- 49:50Speaker 1: fans who are kind of getting into the draft these days.
- 49:53Speaker 1: I think, you know, we start to get questions though
- 49:54Speaker 1: with like, you know, Jade Daniels, is he you know,
- 49:56Speaker 1: is he that guy? At that point? But I don't
- 49:58Speaker 1: know what you would you think of, well, going to America?
- 50:03Speaker 9: Did you guys see the tea that Justin Field's unfollowed
- 50:05Speaker 9: the Bears on social media.
- 50:08Speaker 5: I can't get no, but.
- 50:11Speaker 9: Why are you doing that?
- 50:12Speaker 1: That's weird? The Falcons the Falcons.
- 50:17Speaker 6: Not the Falcon Falcons players, that's weird. Well, Drink london't
- 50:21Speaker 6: follow back Drake London, Kyle Pits and beat So that's weird.
- 50:24Speaker 9: So I think that, like, that's fishy and just leads
- 50:27Speaker 9: to the like the notion that, okay, maybe those guys
- 50:29Speaker 9: could fall to the Patriots, or or maybe like a
- 50:33Speaker 9: trade might happen where the Patriots might get a veteran quarterback.
- 50:36Speaker 1: Who knows.
- 50:37Speaker 9: You never know. I just think there's a lot of
- 50:39Speaker 9: time to tell what's going to happen. I mean, I'm
- 50:41Speaker 9: still confused by the Commanders hiring Caleb's former coach. I
- 50:47Speaker 9: think that has a lot of play in mind. So
- 50:49Speaker 9: I don't know. It's it's so hard to say at
- 50:51Speaker 9: this point what's going to happen because there's so many things.
- 50:54Speaker 6: Pretty out on the court. Like I like Jaden and
- 50:59Speaker 6: Drake May, but I am so out like in Panix
- 51:02Speaker 6: is okay, but I'm so out on the other quarterbacks,
- 51:03Speaker 6: Like we didn't go four and thirteen to take JJ McCarthy.
- 51:06Speaker 9: Like, oh, completely out on him.
- 51:08Speaker 5: That that JJ McCarthy is an option maybe at thirty four,
- 51:12Speaker 5: but you're not taking JJ McCarthy at three.
- 51:14Speaker 6: Oh no, no, no, I'm saying that if you take if
- 51:17Speaker 6: you take Marvin Harrison with your three, yeah, I'd like, no,
- 51:20Speaker 6: just get something else. We'll trade for veteran.
- 51:22Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 51:22Speaker 9: I just don't say no to him because he's I'm like,
- 51:25Speaker 9: you might as well just keep Mack at that point,
- 51:27Speaker 9: why are we keeping him?
- 51:28Speaker 5: I mean that's maybe. I don't know. I think the
- 51:30Speaker 5: biggest thing in in reality, you know, it's we talked
- 51:35Speaker 5: about this when we did our mock draft, which is
- 51:36Speaker 5: up now, so go why.
- 51:37Speaker 3: Yeah, uh shameless plug, yeah, until we.
- 51:41Speaker 5: Until we get through free agency and get to the
- 51:44Speaker 5: draft in April. I think looking at the Patriots roster
- 51:47Speaker 5: on was it February twentieth and saying, oh, like this
- 51:50Speaker 5: roster is too far away for a quarterback and this
- 51:53Speaker 5: that the other thing, It's like, well, in a month,
- 51:55Speaker 5: we might not feel that way. Like in a month,
- 51:57Speaker 5: if they have T Higgins and Calvin Ridley catching passes
- 52:01Speaker 5: from the quarterback, are you still gonna And I'm not
- 52:03Speaker 5: saying that they're gonna be able to pull that off.
- 52:05Speaker 5: I'm just there's different variations of they're not ready for
- 52:09Speaker 5: the quarterback that we are not there yet. Now, with
- 52:12Speaker 5: that being said, you look at a lot of these
- 52:14Speaker 5: other teams that have rebuilt and really started from from
- 52:17Speaker 5: the studs and rebuilt it. Had they have taken a
- 52:19Speaker 5: more patient approach of going a couple of years. You know,
- 52:22Speaker 5: I just pulled up Nick Cassario got to Houston in
- 52:25Speaker 5: twenty twenty one. They didn't take the quarterback until this
- 52:28Speaker 5: past draft. So they went through two full draft cycles
- 52:32Speaker 5: of drafting Derek Stingley Junior, of drafting Nico Collins, of
- 52:36Speaker 5: drafting these other guys to then eventually help the quarterback
- 52:40Speaker 5: when they did get you know, CJ. Strout. So, yes,
- 52:43Speaker 5: that's true. But my my my pushback or my like
- 52:47Speaker 5: hesitation with the Patriots actually doing that is you just
- 52:51Speaker 5: fired Bill Belichick. You have seventy five million dollars in
- 52:55Speaker 5: cap space and the third overall pick in the draft.
- 52:58Speaker 5: Is ownership in the fan base really going to allow
- 53:02Speaker 5: Elliott Wolf and Gerrod Mayo a three year rebuilt? Are
- 53:05Speaker 5: they going to have the patients to see that through?
- 53:08Speaker 5: Because I look at it and say, they're probably just
- 53:11Speaker 5: gonna spend a ton of money, draft a quarterback and
- 53:14Speaker 5: try to do what they did in twenty twenty one,
- 53:15Speaker 5: but better and only better, right, and like that is
- 53:20Speaker 5: that the best way to go about it. You could
- 53:23Speaker 5: definitely make the argument that it's not like you look
- 53:25Speaker 5: at teams like Detroit Houston that have really rebuilt the
- 53:28Speaker 5: last couple of years. They they slow played it, like
- 53:32Speaker 5: they went a little bit. Yeah, they they just didn't.
- 53:37Speaker 5: They didn't go all in on the quarterback right away.
- 53:40Speaker 5: They they they filled in other holes.
- 53:42Speaker 1: They did what's his face from Stanford Davis Mills, Well
- 53:44Speaker 1: they you know what I mean. Like, there's some flyers.
- 53:45Speaker 1: It's kind of like a JJ McCarthy type of yeah,
- 53:48Speaker 1: you know, day three kind of I do.
- 53:49Speaker 9: Not want J. J. Jamilton, Like, I just think I
- 53:52Speaker 9: have to be out on people who.
- 53:54Speaker 1: Like didn't go to entertainer in Virginia Tech.
- 53:57Speaker 11: No.
- 53:58Speaker 9: I just don't think that you should be moving up
- 53:59Speaker 9: the draft simply because your team won a national championship.
- 54:03Speaker 9: I just don't like, I mean, J McCarthy, I don't
- 54:07Speaker 9: care that Mac Jones won a national championship. Great.
- 54:09Speaker 5: I think JJ McCarthy is probably one of the most
- 54:14Speaker 5: in terms of what the league thinks of j. J. McCarthy,
- 54:16Speaker 5: and then what the media thinks of JJ McCarthy. There's
- 54:19Speaker 5: probably no other prospect in the draft that has such
- 54:22Speaker 5: an opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of those opinions,
- 54:25Speaker 5: and I think for the league, for better or worse,
- 54:28Speaker 5: I hate kind of put phrasing it this way. He
- 54:30Speaker 5: is a clean prospect. He played, he was on a
- 54:33Speaker 5: team that won a lot of games. He doesn't have
- 54:36Speaker 5: any major injury red flags, he doesn't have a major
- 54:38Speaker 5: character concerns, and he's got NFL starter physical traits.
- 54:44Speaker 9: So you just describe Mac Jones, You literally just describe
- 54:48Speaker 9: Mac Johns.
- 54:50Speaker 5: But that's how the league views it. Like the league
- 54:52Speaker 5: views it as this guy is I can win with
- 54:56Speaker 5: this guy because he's just gonna come in and do
- 54:58Speaker 5: the right things. He's going to be a clean guy
- 55:01Speaker 5: on and off the field. Whereas like a guy like
- 55:03Speaker 5: Michael Pennix has undeniably more traits than in better tape
- 55:07Speaker 5: than J. J. McCarthy, but he's got four season ending injuries.
- 55:10Speaker 5: You know, a guy like Caleb Williams cry to his mom.
- 55:13Speaker 5: So certain people aren't gonna like that, Like that's just
- 55:16Speaker 5: the reality.
- 55:16Speaker 9: I've had enough with the clean guy. We have a
- 55:19Speaker 9: T shirt, key chain hat, like, we've got all the
- 55:23Speaker 9: things that we need to see with the clean guy.
- 55:26Speaker 9: I don't need to see that again.
- 55:27Speaker 5: I'm not saying for the Patriots. I'm just telling you
- 55:29Speaker 5: why JJ McCarthy in April is going to go higher
- 55:32Speaker 5: than everybody in the media thinks.
- 55:33Speaker 9: Well, long as he doesn't go here, great, I just like,
- 55:38Speaker 9: I just there's nothing about him that I'm like, yes,
- 55:40Speaker 9: I want to be my quarterback. There's nothing I'm pounding
- 55:42Speaker 9: the table on about it. Like, sure he's clean, like
- 55:45Speaker 9: he'll get he'll study, he'll you know, not make mistakes
- 55:49Speaker 9: that'll cost the team. Great, But like, can he your
- 55:53Speaker 9: point with Brock Party? Can he get you over the needle?
- 55:55Speaker 5: Can he get you My comparison for JJ McCarthy is
- 55:58Speaker 5: Brock Party because.
- 56:00Speaker 1: Like it's a hate company to an extent.
- 56:05Speaker 5: But the one thing that I will give Rock Purty
- 56:07Speaker 5: is that he does have some of that mobility to
- 56:10Speaker 5: move around a little bit and make throws out of
- 56:13Speaker 5: you know, on the move. JJ McCarthy's the same way.
- 56:16Speaker 5: JJ McCarthy has some of that ability to create outside
- 56:18Speaker 5: the pocket, to escape and then make throws after the
- 56:22Speaker 5: play breaks down a little bit. The issue is is
- 56:24Speaker 5: that he overthrows the ball and it's like good luck
- 56:27Speaker 5: finding out where the ball is going to go some
- 56:29Speaker 5: of the time. And then he just his processing is
- 56:32Speaker 5: extremely slow and he'll just stare down guys, yeah, and
- 56:35Speaker 5: throw bad picks like that. But at the same time,
- 56:39Speaker 5: you know, he has some of that athleticism mobility out
- 56:42Speaker 5: of structure play like Purty does. And you think as
- 56:46Speaker 5: an NFL team, just like with the Niners, that like,
- 56:49Speaker 5: if we can make this guy work, and that's how
- 56:52Speaker 5: a lot of teams look at it. It's just I
- 56:55Speaker 5: disagree with that approach, like and it's not about the
- 56:58Speaker 5: Patriots at three, Like the Patriots are not drafting JJ
- 57:00Speaker 5: McCarthy third overall. But I'm just saying he's probably gonna
- 57:03Speaker 5: be a back end of the first round guy because
- 57:05Speaker 5: of all these reasons.
- 57:06Speaker 1: Yikes. All right, well, why don't we take a ceremonial
- 57:08Speaker 1: break in honor of Paul eating his food probably somewhere
- 57:11Speaker 1: and coming up after the break though, I want to
- 57:13Speaker 1: actually talk about a little free agency. You know, Evan,
- 57:15Speaker 1: you wrote mail bag today talking about defense. Some holes
- 57:18Speaker 1: to fill. I think on defense. It's a really solid
- 57:20Speaker 1: free agency class on the defensiveide the ball, as much
- 57:22Speaker 1: as nobody wants to talk about defense or free agency.
- 57:25Speaker 1: But before we take a break, let me tell you

- 58:51Speaker 14: Patriots is streaming now exclusively on Apple tv Plus. The
- 58:57Speaker 14: first two episodes dropped on Friday, Episodes one and two,
- 59:01Speaker 14: and so we're here to recap that the schedule of
- 59:04Speaker 14: this podcast will be as such, we will drop a
- 59:06Speaker 14: new Dynasty wrap up show every Friday for the next
- 59:10Speaker 14: five weeks. So let's get to it. Episodes one and two.
- 59:13Speaker 14: I'm gonna start with you, Fred, what were you most
- 59:16Speaker 14: impressed with in episode one?
- 59:18Speaker 4: Well, I mean, first of all, the opening of the episode.
- 59:23Speaker 4: It's sort of like if you're at a musical and
- 59:25Speaker 4: there's an orchestra pit. The first thing they play is
- 59:29Speaker 4: the overture, and if you listen closely and remember what
- 59:32Speaker 4: you heard, you're gonna hear little pieces of everything that
- 59:36Speaker 4: you hear after that in that overture, and I think
- 59:39Speaker 4: that's what they were giving us with that opening, is
- 59:42Speaker 4: you saw all the little pieces of the stories of
- 59:46Speaker 4: the dynasty in that opening.
- 59:47Speaker 1: And I think they did a great job.
- 59:49Speaker 4: Like I had to watch it a couple times, like, oh,
- 59:52Speaker 4: you know, they're gonna talk about that, They're gonna talk
- 59:54Speaker 4: about that, And I think that that opening in caps,
- 59:57Speaker 4: you know, is gonna you know, foreshat, I know everything
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: that we're going to see going forward.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: It was a great hook.
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: Yeah right, yeah, I totally agree.
- 1:00:06Speaker 15: I thought it really got you in it, and you know,
- 1:00:09Speaker 15: for for us that you know, we've we've all been
- 1:00:11Speaker 15: around through a lot of these, you know, for the
- 1:00:12Speaker 15: whole entirety of the dynasty, and it brought you right back,
- 1:00:17Speaker 15: you know, and you said, Okay, let's get my popcorn,
- 1:00:20Speaker 15: let's sit down, let's get ready. I want to relive this.
- 1:00:22Speaker 15: And I thought it did a great job. The pictures
- 1:00:25Speaker 15: did a great job too. I Mean, there was some
- 1:00:27Speaker 15: great sound bites that they had mixed in the imidola.
- 1:00:31Speaker 15: One I thought was great foreshadowing for something that's coming
- 1:00:33Speaker 15: down when you know, the one that's got a lot
- 1:00:35Speaker 15: of play leaning into the documentary, you know about playing
- 1:00:38Speaker 15: for Bill, but I mean working for Bill and playing
- 1:00:40Speaker 15: for Tom.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:41Speaker 15: I just thought it did a great job of setting
- 1:00:43Speaker 15: the scene.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: It really did. I mean, That's that's the crazy thing,
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: is you realize. I mean when in hindsight you forget
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: how long this run was and how many huge storylines
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: there were for twenty years, you know, in and out,
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: And I thought that that part has set a great
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: tone for me. I just I loved a lot of
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: the new stuff, the behind the scenes stuff. You guys
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: will make fun of me, but this stuck out to me.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: This practice footage of Brady wearing a helmet I've never
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: seen him wear before. And I'm a nerd about that, loser,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: That's how I am. People. You know, he had to
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: have a string in his practice, but he had the
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Peyton Malling helmet on, and I'm like, what is going on?
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: I've never seen this before in my life. But those
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: are you know, the things that that are just so cool.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: And you know, just some of the footage where it's
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: just simple b roll and it's these guys hanging out
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: and it's you know, future Hall of Famers. In the
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: midst of this run, starting to put things together. I
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: just you know that that Wow.
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: We're sitting here with our senior executive producer, Matt Smith.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: Kudos to him because one of the things I think
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: this documentary is a testament to film everything, even if
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: you're not going to use.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: It right away or you may never use it.
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: Film everything. Because there's stuff in this documentary that I've
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: never seen before.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: And thank god we filmed.
- 1:01:47Speaker 5: It so right.
- 1:01:48Speaker 15: And for Fred and I to say, it's stuff that
- 1:01:49Speaker 15: we've never seen before. We were working here through the
- 1:01:52Speaker 15: entirety of this and it was stuff that we've never
- 1:01:54Speaker 15: seen before.
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:01:55Speaker 15: Now, Matt probably you know, saw more. You know, he
- 1:01:59Speaker 15: was part of you know, the cruising and whatnot. But
- 1:02:01Speaker 15: to see pictures of practice at like you know, the
- 1:02:06Speaker 15: old stadium at rent them stays like like I've you know,
- 1:02:10Speaker 15: we used to get like five minute windows, Mike, just
- 1:02:12Speaker 15: like we do now.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: Half the time we didn't go because it.
- 1:02:15Speaker 15: Was such a pain to get there, you know, like
- 1:02:17Speaker 15: just let me know who died, As Eddie Duckworth used
- 1:02:20Speaker 15: to say, you know, I don't need to know what's
- 1:02:21Speaker 15: going on.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I don't.
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: But behind the scenes and the team meetings just unbelievable stuff.
- 1:02:27Speaker 14: No, one of the things that I was a big
- 1:02:29Speaker 14: fan of. And maybe that's to Fred's point, maybe I'm
- 1:02:34Speaker 14: prejudiced because I've seen a lot of the footage. I
- 1:02:36Speaker 14: just thought the interviews, by and large most of them
- 1:02:40Speaker 14: were tremendously insightful, and I have some favorites, quite honestly, Paul,
- 1:02:44Speaker 14: you and I did a podcast with Scott Pioli within
- 1:02:46Speaker 14: the last four or five months.
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: Yeah, Scott comes off.
- 1:02:50Speaker 14: Really really well, and I think keeps the thread.
- 1:02:53Speaker 5: It's a good storytelling.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: He's a really good.
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: Story He was seasoned back then because he comes from
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: a pr background before he came to the Patriots. I mean,
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: he he knows how to speak. He's very articulate, not
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: a lot of ums and your nose and all that.
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: And like you said, Paul, he tells a good story, right.
- 1:03:09Speaker 15: And it's one thing to have great information and great anecdotes,
- 1:03:14Speaker 15: but to deliver them in a way like the narcotic
- 1:03:16Speaker 15: line to me, is just fantastic.
- 1:03:18Speaker 14: That's and the perspective that I think he brings to
- 1:03:21Speaker 14: that he's away from it now, so maybe he can
- 1:03:24Speaker 14: see things a little bit differently than when he was
- 1:03:26Speaker 14: right in the trenches, and I think he realizes, and
- 1:03:29Speaker 14: he said this to us at one point time, but
- 1:03:30Speaker 14: I think he realizes.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: She said, wonder if we handled that the right way?
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Did we do what we really needed to do?
- 1:03:35Speaker 14: But they were just so consumed by winning, and the
- 1:03:39Speaker 14: winning became a narcotic As Paul said, that was really powerful.
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: And by the way, we're assuming everybody who's watching this
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: has watched the first two episodes, So if you haven't
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: turn it off, go to Apple TV Plus and watch them,
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: because we're gonna give you spoilers.
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: Yes, no question about.
- 1:03:54Speaker 14: We are going to ruin everything right because we don't
- 1:03:56Speaker 14: know how this has ended right. And the other interviews
- 1:04:00Speaker 14: that I just wanted to that really were tremendous to me,
- 1:04:04Speaker 14: and they were writing character were Tyla and Laurie Maloy,
- 1:04:09Speaker 14: very good friends, tremendous players during this team, but their
- 1:04:14Speaker 14: color and their you know, just the way they spoke,
- 1:04:19Speaker 14: the looseness that they spoke, and the way that they
- 1:04:21Speaker 14: described things. I thought Patriot fans will really enjoy hearing them,
- 1:04:26Speaker 14: how they talked and how they described what was going on.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: Yeah, they were the gatekeepers of the old Patriots. I mean,
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: those were the guys from the nineties that were the
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: holdovers that you know, were the leaders of that team.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: And I think, you know, just their perspective on Brady
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: coming in. I mean, my favorite part of you know,
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: Brady coming in and I'm not giving this thing back,
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: like you know, you're a rookie, you can to give
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: them back, right, That was I mean, those great lines,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: and I mean those guys just they have so much personality.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: But you know, just quickly to go back to Puli,
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: I just I love what you said, Matt about his
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: perspective and it you know, I don't want to it
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: doesn't seem like he you know, is completely like reformed
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: or anything, but it just it seems like somebody who
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: was in the weed as close as you could get
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: to it and has now gotten out, has now gotten
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: some perspective of how it all went, and maybe isn't
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: entirely proud of how every little bit of it went.
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: And I think that kind of comes through, whereas some
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: of the other voices you get they're still kind of
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: stuck in that or you know, they never got over it.
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: You know.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: I think he's just such a unique point of view
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: in this whole documentary and one of.
- 1:05:19Speaker 14: His closest confidence and the person who brought him into
- 1:05:21Speaker 14: the organization is Bill Belichick, and it's and Bill Belichick
- 1:05:25Speaker 14: is the same thing. He's true to character. He's very
- 1:05:28Speaker 14: buttoned up. His demeanor is very obvious when he's in there,
- 1:05:31Speaker 14: and he's the Bill Belichick that I think everybody would expect.
- 1:05:34Speaker 14: Whereas Scott he's he's opening himself up. He's letting the
- 1:05:38Speaker 14: viewer and the fiancy a different side of him that
- 1:05:41Speaker 14: I don't think fian saw when he was here working
- 1:05:42Speaker 14: with the organization.
- 1:05:43Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:05:44Speaker 15: Yeah, And it was eye opening when when Matt and
- 1:05:45Speaker 15: I had him on that Pats from the Past podcast
- 1:05:48Speaker 15: and a lot of the stuff he echoes, you know,
- 1:05:50Speaker 15: in this thing. And I do think that Mike has
- 1:05:52Speaker 15: a good perspective on that. It's like he's the one
- 1:05:54Speaker 15: guy that's like, we didn't have to do it that way.
- 1:05:57Speaker 15: He expressed that regret with Matt and I when we
- 1:06:00Speaker 15: did it. He he comes across, you know, really likable,
- 1:06:05Speaker 15: but you know, just sort of with great perspective, you know.
- 1:06:08Speaker 15: And some of the stuff, the interaction with he and
- 1:06:10Speaker 15: Ernie Adams, to me, some of that stuff is good too.
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: It's such great stuff. You know, you brought up Bill,
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: and I think Bill in these first two episodes comes
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: off smelling like a rose in my opinion, because you know,
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: they a lot of it is focused on the Brady
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: bled Cell decision and how gutsy it was to make
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: that call because Bledsoell was so close to the owner.
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: You know, at one part they talked about the owner
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: actually talking to Bill about, hey, you know, why aren't you?
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: You know, so there was a lot of pressure on
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: Bill to make this thing. What I think hurt Bill
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: is himself. Like we're talking about all these great interviews,
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: you know, Ty law and Lawyer Maloy. Lawyer Maloy has
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: a lot of you know, acts to grind with this
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: team with question you know.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: Scott Pioli and Jack.
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: Everybody came off great except Bill. He was so standoffish
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: in the in his body language and you know, yes
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: it's the same Bill, but you had a chance to
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: kind of open up a little bit more and show
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: us a little bit.
- 1:07:09Speaker 6: And you didn't take that chance.
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: Although I think the actions speak louder than words. Like
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: I said, he came off really looking good in these
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: first arts.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: As he should. As he should, it was, it was
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: press conference bill that was what this was who we
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: see in press conferences, that's guarded. You know, even from
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: the initial kind of right crack, you know, it felt
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: like he was getting ready to go to war a
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: little bit. It makes me wonder what it's going to
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: be like when we get into some of the more
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: controversial stuff down the road is built because I think
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: everybody wants to watch this and see the bill from
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: the Scarneckia induction, the storyteller, the one who's going to
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: tell you a little and we didn't really get any
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: of that, at least in the first two episodes.
- 1:07:49Speaker 15: You want to let me know, let you guys know
- 1:07:51Speaker 15: one thing totally unrelated really to the dynasty itself. But
- 1:07:56Speaker 15: David NuGen is a guy who not a lot of
- 1:07:58Speaker 15: people listening right now probably even know who he is.
- 1:08:01Speaker 15: Right He was a fellow member of the two thousand
- 1:08:03Speaker 15: draft class, and he and Brady were roommates, and you
- 1:08:07Speaker 15: know they both played in the Big ten. Nujin was
- 1:08:09Speaker 15: a defensive lineman out of Purdue. He has some great
- 1:08:12Speaker 15: home footage that he should again back to.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: People stuff because they watch well, stuff that.
- 1:08:17Speaker 15: You've never seen that's you know that until the point.
- 1:08:21Speaker 15: But it's it's stuff that you've never seen before, and
- 1:08:26Speaker 15: it just gives you sort of a glimpse of just
- 1:08:28Speaker 15: how psychotic Brady is. When it came to everything competition wise.
- 1:08:34Speaker 10: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, no
- 1:08:39Speaker 10: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 1:08:42Speaker 10: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx Where
- 1:08:46Speaker 10: now meant's next for residential delivery only?
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: And now great moments in.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: History?
- 1:08:56Speaker 6: Maybe I'm over that's going around too.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: That's going around too. He postedfuge. He posted a picture
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: and it was him like smiling and if you'll look close,
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: he was actual. Letts state, who was this Brady Brady?
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: The picture he posted with him at from the Tampa game.
- 1:09:11Speaker 9: I didn't.
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: I didn't look at the thing.
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: I know you didn't.
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: I was asking, I was on part of this thing.
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: Printed more trees than anybody I've ever seen. Will you
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: file that right? We're just talking about how you know,
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: when when we're doing the show, we should reference on
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: your phone.
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: Just look on the sound radio the animal Eric think
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: about that. My second question is whether you guys think.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: That's another great moment from.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered is brought to you by the Massachusetts Office

- 1:10:00Speaker 1: away at visit m dot com. All right, we're back,
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: folks from our I guess we took a little break
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: there to honor Paul's launch. None of us actually, actually
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: you guys lunch lunch, someone don't but we didn't order
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: anything from Pizza Time today, so sorry Pizza Time. Probably.
- 1:10:13Speaker 5: I went to Jersey Mics waiting for that. Where a
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: place called Jersey Mikes.
- 1:10:17Speaker 6: I like it.
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: It's it's my favorite, like little local spot.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: They cut the met they cut that meat.
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: A small family owned business.
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: Yeah, it's you know, mom and pop shop.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: Well, we should say to combine next week. Combine next
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: week you have to go to Jimmy John Jimmy John's.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: I don't think about football Jimmy John j Jones.
- 1:10:32Speaker 9: Disgusting.
- 1:10:33Speaker 5: Oh, Tamara that that's a bad take. But she comes
- 1:10:37Speaker 5: up to me this morning and she's like, are you
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: excited to go to Indian, and I was like, I'm
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: excited to go to Saint Elmos. I'm excited to eat
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: every single that's ever been put in front of me.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: Yeah it's shrimp.
- 1:10:49Speaker 9: I love shrimp.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Yeah, you like horse.
- 1:10:51Speaker 9: Radish, Yes, all right, like cotaio sauce different.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: But it tastes like like the shrimp is fine. It's
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: very big, but it's just a ton of sauce. To
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: bring some sauce back to it's it's so good.
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: I think the whole Almos experience is honestly.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: Lives up to the especially when you get a private room.
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: You know, well that outstairs private room.
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: Helped a little bit that that was.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: Where we are. They're like, oh, it's the Patriots content team.
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: Go ahead, guys upstairs.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: Paul probably would get mad at me for that appropriating. Yeah,
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: so I I I want to talk a little free
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: agency here, and I'm sorry everybody that wants to do
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: nothing but debate the third overall pick. And you know,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: talk about offense. And certainly the offense is huge priority
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: for the Patriots and they need to really rebuild from scratch.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: But and while they do have some good pieces on defense,
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: I think when you're just looking at free agency. And
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: I never wrote a little bit about this in the
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: mail bag, and I definitely agree with him, is that
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: the Patriots canna make some splashy moves on defense and
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: free agency, and they have the money to do it.
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: And then I, you know, again, I think I would
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: prioritize certainly internal players. Christian Barmore topped the list for me.
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: I saw today, I forget who one of the you know,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: who's the best fit for all the free agents. Somebody
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: ran down one of the one of the one of
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: the national guys on NFL dot com. But yeah, Christian
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: Wilkins from the Dolphins going to the Patriots.
- 1:12:11Speaker 9: Oh, I love him.
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: Such as boys.
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: A Massachusetts boy as well. They had you know, they
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: had Dougger and when you both leaving, uh, and then
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: they had they had one other guy going to the
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: Dougger is uh just what he's putting together.
- 1:12:25Speaker 8: But you know, if you have insider info or like,
- 1:12:28Speaker 8: over your dead body, he's leaving.
- 1:12:29Speaker 5: I would say, in the next twenty four to forty
- 1:12:31Speaker 5: eight hours, we'll find out that Carle Douger is not.
- 1:12:34Speaker 6: He's trying to leave, just grabbing.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: That's that's that's that would be great news too. So
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: you know, I just I think we know the Patriots
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: got in this point not draft, developed, retain. They can't develop,
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: they can't retain. They drafted guys that haven't worked out,
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: and so you know, I'd be all for it, but
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: I just wanted to go go through some of these
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: defenders names on the wide receiver list, and you know,
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: we've talked plenty of about you know, T Higgins wide
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: receivers on the offer start clamber before you start, Okay.
- 1:13:00Speaker 9: The disclaimer is it cannot be an off brand free agent.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: No.
- 1:13:05Speaker 9: And I've said this, I think the past seven months.
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: And that's the whole point.
- 1:13:09Speaker 9: No, I do not want any Johnny Smith.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: No, I don't know that. Yeah, that's the whole point
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: on brand, and we could kind of, you know, we
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: go off brand. I just remembered who the other the
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: other player was, Jonah Williams, who was kind of a
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: little bit of an off brand tackle.
- 1:13:25Speaker 5: You know, like that was my whole, my whole thing,
- 1:13:29Speaker 5: you know, I wrote this in the mail bag was
- 1:13:30Speaker 5: exactly what Tamara just said. Is. You know, when they
- 1:13:33Speaker 5: spent in twenty twenty one on the offensive players, they
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: basically set themselves up with a two year core because
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: of how much they paid those guys. So it was
- 1:13:40Speaker 5: Jacoby Myers, Kendrick Bourne, Nelson, Agalore Hunter, Henry Johnny Smith
- 1:13:46Speaker 5: and that those were all top of the market guys
- 1:13:49Speaker 5: in free agency that they paid top of the market
- 1:13:51Speaker 5: and it wasn't good enough. Like that's that's the best
- 1:13:54Speaker 5: that you possibly can get in this free agent class.
- 1:13:57Speaker 5: I would just so much rather than chase the talent,
- 1:13:59Speaker 5: like where is the strength of the class and spend
- 1:14:03Speaker 5: your money there? And you're just gonna about to rattle
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: off like this edge defensive line free agency group is
- 1:14:10Speaker 5: absolutely stacked, and some of these guys are gonna make
- 1:14:13Speaker 5: it to free agency because of various reasons, they're not
- 1:14:16Speaker 5: gonna be tagged. So why pay you know, another Kendrick Bourne,
- 1:14:21Speaker 5: Nelson Aglore level receiver when you can pay Christian Wilkins
- 1:14:25Speaker 5: like that? That's I think where I'm at, And you
- 1:14:28Speaker 5: strengthen a strength and then once we get to April,
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: then we can just draft seven offensive defense.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: I mean, let me let me run down these edge defenders.
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: I mean, this is just this is on PFF ranking them.
- 1:14:39Speaker 16: Uh.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: Josh Allen from Jacksonville, Brian Burns from Carolina, Danielle Hunter
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: from the Vikings, Chase Young, Bryce Huff from the Jets,
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: Jonathan Greener in Houston, Texans, Darius Smith, Cleveland Browns, Leonard Floyd,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: the Bill's Jadavian Clowney, and then Josh Ouch. So you know,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: even if you're just looking at those names, I mean,
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: I know some you know, could could stay. Some are
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: not great fits, but there's definitely some promise there. And
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: when you look at Matthew Judon being in his early thirties,
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: you look at u j and Jennings being free agents,
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: there's no real answer on the edge right now. It
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: seems to me that if you're gonna spend a bunch
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: of money on an external guy, I'd rather take a swing,
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: like you said, Evan on a star of one of those.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: Let's talk about the interior guys. I mean, Chris Jones.
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: We'll see if Kansas City lets him get away. Christian
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Wilkins doesn't stop talking. He's he's a yeah, you kind
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: of love him. If he's on your team, you'd like him.
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: But you know, to Avan's point, to connect it to
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: Lawrence guy, you know that kind of big interior. You
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: know there's probably a need, and he's young too. It's
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: it's he's got I think Justin Madebique. I mean, he's
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: an outstanding player. Another one he think Baltimore might try
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: to retain him. DJ Reader another big space eater. T
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: you know, some older guys, Fletcher Cox, Michael Pierce. But again,
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: all these guys they kind of fit and they're kind
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: of in areas of need. I don't think corner is
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: a huge need. I don't think, you know, if they're
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: going to resign doug Ars, safety not a huge need.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: But I think taking care of the edge is an
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: upfront They have a real opportunity here in free agency.
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: I are just much rather than pay guys that are
- 1:16:02Speaker 5: actually going to be impact players than just pay guys
- 1:16:05Speaker 5: because they have wide receiver next to their name. And
- 1:16:08Speaker 5: when you look at this class of receivers, T Higgins
- 1:16:11Speaker 5: is going to get the tag most likely. It sounds
- 1:16:14Speaker 5: like Calvin Ridley is probably going to be the best
- 1:16:17Speaker 5: guy that becomes available who I really like. But at
- 1:16:20Speaker 5: the same time, like, is that the guy that you're
- 1:16:22Speaker 5: investing to be your number one wide receiver? And I
- 1:16:26Speaker 5: just I look at it and I say, go where
- 1:16:29Speaker 5: the talent takes you if that means that it's spending
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: on defense instead of offense, and you know your splashes
- 1:16:34Speaker 5: are you know, Brian Burns and Christian Wilkins instead of
- 1:16:38Speaker 5: you know, a receiver talent or a quarterback or tackle
- 1:16:41Speaker 5: now Jonah Williams, like those guys Jonah Williams, Makai Becton
- 1:16:45Speaker 5: at tackle, their dart throws on injury prone guys like
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: you know that are just not really high end talented
- 1:16:52Speaker 5: type of players. So I would much rather than do that.
- 1:16:55Speaker 5: And that's what that's why you have the draft and
- 1:16:58Speaker 5: you have free agency, and if you can get your
- 1:17:01Speaker 5: hands on at T. Higgins, if Justin Jefferson and follows
- 1:17:04Speaker 5: the vikings and decides that he wants out of Minnesota, sure,
- 1:17:07Speaker 5: I'm obviously all for trying to invest in those types
- 1:17:10Speaker 5: of players if that type of talent is available. But
- 1:17:13Speaker 5: the worst thing that you can do is do what
- 1:17:15Speaker 5: you did in twenty twenty one and just have a
- 1:17:17Speaker 5: bunch of complimentary guys and no real stars.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:17:20Speaker 5: On the OFFENSEI side of the ball.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: I take it on Kenny Moore too, who was here
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: and you know, just a slot guy. But I think
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: that you know, uncertain on Marcus Jones and you know
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: what's gonna happen with Miles Brian. I feel like, you know,
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: they could just use an inside guy. I've always liked
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: him a little bit older. But again, the one thing
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: I do say, though, Evan I liked about what they
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: did in twenty twenty one was that all their signings
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: were guys who are like twenty six, like coming right
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: off their first contract. I love that. I love that.
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: I think that's what they have to do continue to do.
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: You know when you see these like edge rushers, you know,
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: Jadavian Clowney that you know, mid thirty, like it's it's
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: no point, there's no point. You got to be a
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: little bit patient.
- 1:17:54Speaker 5: But I just well, that's like like a guy like
- 1:17:56Speaker 5: Mike Evans, who is a Hall of Fame player, he's
- 1:17:58Speaker 5: going to be a Hall of Famer, but he's going
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: to be thirty one, and does he really want to
- 1:18:03Speaker 5: leave Tampa? Probably not. And you look at you know
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: Ridley I just mentioned he's he's twenty nine going on thirty.
- 1:18:09Speaker 5: So they're not really in that that bracket of what
- 1:18:11Speaker 5: you're talking about. You know, those guys are more you know,
- 1:18:14Speaker 5: Higgins Pittman like, but are those guys going to be available?
- 1:18:17Speaker 5: I don't, I don't know.
- 1:18:18Speaker 9: You know, I would love T Higgins.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: Yeah, he hasn't shut up about T Higgins since since
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: the draft.
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: Like the Bengals, GM said last year at the combine,
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: get your own receiver. So well, yeah, that's literally what
- 1:18:32Speaker 5: he said to me.
- 1:18:33Speaker 9: I like that energy though.
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:18:35Speaker 6: Don't They have an issue though, because they have to
- 1:18:36Speaker 6: pay Jamark Chase too.
- 1:18:38Speaker 5: Well, they have an issue in terms of, like you know,
- 1:18:41Speaker 5: as a team in Cincinnati, are they going to have
- 1:18:43Speaker 5: the cash to spend on all of these guys. But
- 1:18:45Speaker 5: at the end of the day, if they wanted to
- 1:18:47Speaker 5: keep all of them, they could keep all of them,
- 1:18:48Speaker 5: but you gotta pay for it.
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: So all right, we got some emails coming in, and
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: please give us a ring jingle at eighty five to five,
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: Pats five hundred, shoot us an email at Patriots sorry,
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: Web Radio, Patriots dot com. Got a bunch of emails here.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: We kind of maybe fire through some of them. Mentioned
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: today is the franchise tag deadline. Rusty and Arlen just
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: writing in about realistic options. I believe you've all mentioned
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: various times the team and when you agree he is
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: in a tackle hopefully we also agree he has been
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: at least a middle of the PAC tackle when everyone
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: needs one. I like him way better than whoever. Their
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: other options will most likely be Henry another hend or
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: Henry another option there, he says, not exciting, but hey,
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: that's how it goes sometimes. Let me know what you think,
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: and of course, Kyle Duggar, I don't know what do
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: you think? Guys, any any thoughts? I mean, I just
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: I've said it before. There's just not a lot of
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: options at tight end. There's not a stack draft class
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: like there was last year. I mean, Hunter Henry and
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: the guy from Dalton Schultz, those are probably the top
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: two that kind of fit that could step in and play.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: They just don't have a lot of options. That's why
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: I see Hunter Henry's kind of a priority. Or if
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: they want to maybe.
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: Tax over so I wouldn't. Hunter Henry's tag is gonna
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: cost them over eighteen million dollars because of his salary
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: last year, So he doesn't make the tag that you
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: see online when you google what's the tight end dag
- 1:20:07Speaker 5: that he has an escalator more because of what he
- 1:20:10Speaker 5: made last year. So they're not going to pay Hunter
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: Henry eighteen million dollars next year. But I actually look
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: at some of these free agent options, and you know,
- 1:20:19Speaker 5: Daland Schultz is probably the one like starting caliber tight
- 1:20:22Speaker 5: end other than Henry that's in free agency. But I
- 1:20:25Speaker 5: look at a guy like Gerald Everett, Noah Fan, I
- 1:20:27Speaker 5: think those players. If you took a Gerald Everett and
- 1:20:31Speaker 5: then drafted somebody in the middle rounds, at least you'd
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: have someone in Everett that could hold down the position
- 1:20:36Speaker 5: for the twenty twenty four season. So I'd probably rather
- 1:20:39Speaker 5: that be Henry. But I would say that Everett is
- 1:20:42Speaker 5: a little bit more explosive, a little bit better with
- 1:20:45Speaker 5: the ball in his hands, so that that might be
- 1:20:47Speaker 5: a fit.
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: I got real quick just share this. Someone was at
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: the Frankfurt game and was taking some pictures of people
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: walking in and they just so happened to get Evan Lazar.
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: That emotion is I don't.
- 1:21:02Speaker 17: Like that, I'm excited.
- 1:21:06Speaker 5: Can you pay me for the photo?
- 1:21:10Speaker 9: All week in Frankfurt, this man was like, I need
- 1:21:13Speaker 9: to be there early because some fans want to meet me.
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: Literally energy.
- 1:21:20Speaker 9: He wanted to get everything early to me.
- 1:21:23Speaker 5: You don't have to out me all the time. The
- 1:21:25Speaker 5: things that I say the record.
- 1:21:28Speaker 6: The real side stories. Evan and I walking through all
- 1:21:31Speaker 6: of Frankfurt just to find some Frankfurt some burs. It
- 1:21:35Speaker 6: took way too long, left us.
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: Yeah, well that first day we got one, but they
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: kind of come on like a roll, like we had
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: them right. We were walking around and h random hole
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: in the wall. The bread was so good there, the bread,
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: Like I still am kicking myself for not just like
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: stalking up because even the airport breadth is good, Like
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: you could have just gone, but you already flew back,
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: like go into the airport and be like, give me
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: just a bunch of danishes and brought him home. But
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: we saw Emma who used to work in our department,
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: and she's been I guess in your you know a
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: little bit, but she just said all her like eating
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: and stomach is she's so cleared up.
- 1:22:04Speaker 8: It's amazing, like what you can eat when your food
- 1:22:07Speaker 8: systems aren't poisoning you.
- 1:22:09Speaker 6: I had McDonald's and Germany twice.
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: Did we ever tell this story?
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:22:21Speaker 8: We wanted to go to McDonald's just because every country
- 1:22:24Speaker 8: has different menu items and it's kind of cool. It's
- 1:22:27Speaker 8: like anthropology really the different McDonald's.
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: So whatever we go in.
- 1:22:31Speaker 5: I don't get that.
- 1:22:33Speaker 9: I don't want to hear any shaming because this man
- 1:22:35Speaker 9: would only drink Starbucks coffee. He wouldn't try anything local,
- 1:22:39Speaker 9: so you can't.
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: Talk right exactly and.
- 1:22:43Speaker 8: That anyways, So we're just excited to try this McDonald's
- 1:22:46Speaker 8: and we had a funny experience inside.
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: It's like touch screen, it's all modern. So we get out.
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: Who do we see Jason mccordy.
- 1:22:54Speaker 5: Wow.
- 1:22:56Speaker 8: No, no, I say this because I'm sure a lot
- 1:22:59Speaker 8: of fans that follow us have seen the video I posted.
- 1:23:02Speaker 8: But Jason comes up to us and it was just
- 1:23:05Speaker 8: shaming us.
- 1:23:06Speaker 6: Literally, the look on his face and cheeseburger.
- 1:23:11Speaker 9: He's like, you go all the way to Germany because.
- 1:23:14Speaker 8: You didn't get this, And we're like, okay, this isn't
- 1:23:17Speaker 8: a lot of people thought we only ate McDonald's when
- 1:23:19Speaker 8: you were in Germany, and it was like, no, that
- 1:23:21Speaker 8: was just one meal of seven.
- 1:23:24Speaker 9: One meal Deuce had five guys.
- 1:23:27Speaker 5: You said that island.
- 1:23:30Speaker 8: No, I didn't eat McDonald's multiple times on the trap.
- 1:23:33Speaker 9: No.
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: You know. The thing that was kind of most jarring
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: me though Germany, and I didn't realize that would miss
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: it as much was ice like ice water.
- 1:23:40Speaker 6: I tried to get iced coffee.
- 1:23:41Speaker 5: That's why I went to Starbucks, because I asked for
- 1:23:43Speaker 5: ice coffee at one of the local places and they
- 1:23:45Speaker 5: looked at me like I had ten heads.
- 1:23:48Speaker 8: Evanence Mari went into the Starbucks, and Matissa and I
- 1:23:51Speaker 8: went into right next door, a little like more authentic
- 1:23:54Speaker 8: coffee shop, and we asked for ice coffees, and the
- 1:23:57Speaker 8: lady looked at us and she said iced.
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: It's called out like, Yeah, that is hot.
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: Mom is hot. We're from Boston, We're silly. Email from Claire, Hello, everyone,
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: nice job without the grown ups. Guys. I'm glad Claire
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: you don't think I'm a grown up. I appreciate that
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: you're not fifty years old like I'm still at that.
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: With the release of Guy and now the retirement to
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: the beloved Slater, do you share in my concern that
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: the Patriots are too new when it comes to coaching
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: and personnel to let those sorts of players go. I
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: guess Slater was his decision, but Guy felt like he
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: could be a necessary retain just to maintain some solid
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: locker room presence thoughts.
- 1:24:35Speaker 5: I hear her point, but I think that one of
- 1:24:39Speaker 5: the things that is, you know, we hear a lot
- 1:24:42Speaker 5: from people in the organization now is that they have
- 1:24:46Speaker 5: to start over, Like there has to be a point
- 1:24:49Speaker 5: in time where they hit the reset button. And that
- 1:24:52Speaker 5: might not mean that it's a very successful twenty twenty
- 1:24:54Speaker 5: four like in terms of wins, but at some point
- 1:24:57Speaker 5: in time you have to move on from some of
- 1:24:59Speaker 5: these guys and start bringing in some younger.
- 1:25:01Speaker 8: It's also I think people are looking over the fact that, yes,
- 1:25:04Speaker 8: we lost two great leaders and I'll even throw Adrian
- 1:25:08Speaker 8: Phillips in that. I think he was a really solid
- 1:25:10Speaker 8: veteran for guys to look up to you, But like
- 1:25:12Speaker 8: Ditrich Wise and John Jones are still in there and
- 1:25:16Speaker 8: they're great guys, great role models, great guys to look
- 1:25:19Speaker 8: up to.
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: So you got to reset it. And I just I
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: think we kind of I think wondered about this when
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: it was going bad. Is does that does the message
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: from the guys who were part of the dynasty still
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: resonate with these young kids when you have you know,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: you get to a team and there's five or six
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: guys that were like, hey man, when we won the jam,
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: this is how it was, and like at a certain
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: point you're like, well, we're so far removed from that,
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: we need to find our own way. So I think
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: that's what they're gonna have.
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: They have to have Mayo and Dante high Tower to there.
- 1:25:47Speaker 5: You go, there you go. They have to have some
- 1:25:48Speaker 5: of these, you know, they have to have some of
- 1:25:51Speaker 5: these younger players start to set up step up into
- 1:25:54Speaker 5: leadership roles. And if you're going to draft a quarterback
- 1:25:57Speaker 5: at number three, like he's automatically going to be in
- 1:25:59Speaker 5: a leader ship position just because of the position and
- 1:26:02Speaker 5: where he was drafted. So some of these guys, you know,
- 1:26:05Speaker 5: Christian Gonzales very quiet kids, so I don't expect him
- 1:26:08Speaker 5: to be oh yeah and at the end of every
- 1:26:10Speaker 5: single game, but his presence and you know, just his
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: you know, leading by example like that type of stuff
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: has got to start to matter to some of these
- 1:26:17Speaker 5: Sometimes you just look at him.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: Wow, he's like an elite athlete, right, Like, moves it
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: a different I'm gonna I'm gonna play better because of him.
- 1:26:23Speaker 5: Yeah, that's the hope.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: That's kind of interesting one here from Reno and Tennessee.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: I know there have been plenty of bust wide receivers,
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: but has there been a bust from the expected generation
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: generational talent like Marvin Harrison Junior. I know there's plenty
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: of qbs that busted that caliber, but I can't think
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: of a wide receiver this sought out to flame out.
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: Can you think of any.
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: Oh well, yes, but like maybe because of different reasons,
- 1:26:48Speaker 5: like you know, off field.
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: Type of stuff.
- 1:26:51Speaker 5: Yeah, Like point back in the day, this happened a
- 1:26:56Speaker 5: lot more, you know, like the the Roy Williams is
- 1:26:59Speaker 5: of the world. You know, even like certain guys that
- 1:27:02Speaker 5: were considered generational that were okay NFL players but didn't
- 1:27:06Speaker 5: live up to the hype of being like, you know,
- 1:27:08Speaker 5: a Hall of Fame caliber guy. But recently, I would
- 1:27:11Speaker 5: say that a lot of this the talent has definitely
- 1:27:14Speaker 5: held out strong for for the most part. But uh,
- 1:27:17Speaker 5: you know there's certain guys and you know that were
- 1:27:19Speaker 5: top of the first round, really highly touted players, like
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: even like somebody like Jerry Judy, like not a generational
- 1:27:25Speaker 5: talent coming out, but like, was Jerry Judy a first
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: round level player in his career so far? Like maybe
- 1:27:31Speaker 5: you have some of those types of guys.
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: But it's funny you say him because I remember at
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: the Comma and being like what I wouldn't give to
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: get Jerry g Yeah.
- 1:27:37Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I mean like Henry Ruggs is obviously the
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: biggest one out of the recent care but that's that's
- 1:27:43Speaker 5: a totally different circumstance.
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: I don't want to read this one because Kyle writes
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: in with a bunch of Patriots trivia. But Kyle, unfortunately,
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: I don't think we've got the squad to uh to
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: answer that.
- 1:27:55Speaker 8: This is.
- 1:27:58Speaker 9: Wait, can we go back to free agency? Because I
- 1:28:00Speaker 9: don't know if we've actually, like go back picked anybody
- 1:28:03Speaker 9: off that edge list.
- 1:28:05Speaker 6: Josh Allen, you can.
- 1:28:07Speaker 9: I want Chase Young.
- 1:28:09Speaker 6: Chase he played for one quarter in the Super Bowl.
- 1:28:11Speaker 6: He had that one sack and then you didn't see
- 1:28:12Speaker 6: him again in the rest of the game, and you're
- 1:28:14Speaker 6: gonna pay him all that money?
- 1:28:15Speaker 5: Chase?
- 1:28:15Speaker 9: You no, you don't like him. Who do you like
- 1:28:17Speaker 9: off that list?
- 1:28:20Speaker 5: I would say out of this list, probably Brian Burns
- 1:28:25Speaker 5: is the best player on that group. Bryce Huff from
- 1:28:28Speaker 5: the Jets is also another player that we didn't mention,
- 1:28:30Speaker 5: who's kind of like a soup up, like.
- 1:28:32Speaker 9: You like getting one of these and not resigning.
- 1:28:38Speaker 5: I think that if you can get a more complete player.
- 1:28:40Speaker 5: And I also, I have no inside information on this,
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: but I think that there's a chance that Matthew Judon's
- 1:28:48Speaker 5: not on this team, and if that's the case, then
- 1:28:52Speaker 5: you know you need to fill that that void. But
- 1:28:55Speaker 5: if you can get a Day two pick for Matthew Judon,
- 1:28:59Speaker 5: you have to make that trade if you're the Patriots.
- 1:29:01Speaker 5: So I look at that as that's a possible avenue
- 1:29:06Speaker 5: that they might go to get. You know, do we
- 1:29:09Speaker 5: when we did the mock draft, Like, at least when
- 1:29:11Speaker 5: I was doing it, I was like, would be really
- 1:29:13Speaker 5: nice to have like one more pick somewhere here.
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: I mean, that's like, you know, and then the draft
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: fund where you trade down right just a little bit
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: and you pick up that. I mean, it's just it's
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: amazing the difference one extra pick in the second round
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: you can do no matter where it kind of falls.
- 1:29:27Speaker 9: He seems like he really wants to stay here though.
- 1:29:29Speaker 5: I look, I'm not like trying to ship him out
- 1:29:32Speaker 5: of town. I really want to.
- 1:29:34Speaker 9: I mean I'm just telling you, yeah, him and Kendrick Bourne.
- 1:29:38Speaker 5: Kenrick Bourne is in a different tax bracket. So if
- 1:29:40Speaker 5: Kenrick's fine, but Matthew Junon is you know, he's a
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: little bit older, he's expensive. Is he part of the
- 1:29:48Speaker 5: next good Patriots football team? And like, I think the
- 1:29:51Speaker 5: one thing that looking back on it, and look, we
- 1:29:53Speaker 5: don't know what Belichick was told about the trade deadline
- 1:29:58Speaker 5: in this past year. He might have been told by ownership,
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: don't anything because you're not gonna be here, right, But
- 1:30:03Speaker 5: not trading josh u j at the trade deadline was
- 1:30:05Speaker 5: a mistake. Like they they should have traded josh Uja
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: and gotten whatever assets they could have gotten for him
- 1:30:10Speaker 5: at the time, because now he's probably going to walk
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: in free agency for nothing.
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: A quick question here from Gene and Ottawa. How much
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: of a role did the Patriots play in facil facilitating
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: the production of the Dynasty doc? Did the organization have
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: any editorial creative control over the final product? This is
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: from Gene and Outawa. Gene probably be better to come
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: from Fred, but I can relay the same message was
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: no creative or editorial control. Did provide a lot of
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: the footage though, or anything in the archives where we're
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: all open to the documentary to go in and take.
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: But but the Patriots organization did not have any editorial
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: or creative control. But you used to take that from
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: Fred because he's he's the one, he's the big boss man.
- 1:30:49Speaker 9: You know.
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: All right, let's jump back to the phone real quick.
- 1:30:52Speaker 5: Nobody believes you do, believe me?
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: Well everything you say these days you gotta be Hey, Todd,
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: how are you?
- 1:30:59Speaker 16: I'm gonna give a little a caller on collar crime
- 1:31:02Speaker 16: because the guy that called in earlier saying, well, you
- 1:31:04Speaker 16: had eleven people on offense, and I don't want to
- 1:31:06Speaker 16: over focus on quarterback. You know what, quarterbacks like a
- 1:31:09Speaker 16: Formula one race. You know what, You better have a driver,
- 1:31:13Speaker 16: your Pittoo's important. Everybody else is all important that the
- 1:31:15Speaker 16: organize or whatever. Without the driver, got nothing. Without the quarterback,
- 1:31:19Speaker 16: you got nothing. The guy doesn't know what he's talking about.
- 1:31:22Speaker 16: Maybe hockey, you can know he got six guys on
- 1:31:24Speaker 16: the ice, you know, any one of the guys can
- 1:31:26Speaker 16: be a leader or got up. Yeah, sure great, but
- 1:31:29Speaker 16: not in not in football, not on the old fence.
- 1:31:32Speaker 16: You've got to have a leader. And that leader's got
- 1:31:33Speaker 16: to be your quarterback because he's the one that's driving
- 1:31:36Speaker 16: this team. And I think that guy is totally wrong.
- 1:31:39Speaker 16: And I don't think if if they don't draft one
- 1:31:41Speaker 16: or they don't find somebody in free agency to drive
- 1:31:43Speaker 16: this car of ours. We're gonna have another crappy year
- 1:31:47Speaker 16: and maybe we'll get a first round pick, but we
- 1:31:49Speaker 16: need somebody. We need a quarterback. And that's the two
- 1:31:51Speaker 16: guys we got on this team are not quarterbacks, and
- 1:31:54Speaker 16: we got to get rid of them, and we need somebody.
- 1:31:56Speaker 16: And that's it. And I let the guy call back
- 1:31:58Speaker 16: and yell. Let me for being any vulatory.
- 1:32:01Speaker 5: I hear what Todd is saying completely, and I think
- 1:32:05Speaker 5: you look at this this group of quarterbacks. Is another
- 1:32:07Speaker 5: point I made in the mailbag. Is thirty six year
- 1:32:10Speaker 5: old Kirk Cousins coming off an achilles tear at thirty
- 1:32:13Speaker 5: five million dollars a year?
- 1:32:15Speaker 6: In answer is hell getting benched for two rookies.
- 1:32:18Speaker 5: Is trading a top one hundred pick for Justin Fields?
- 1:32:20Speaker 5: The answer like, Baker Mayfield is not coming here, Like
- 1:32:24Speaker 5: I understand people keep on floating that possibility. Uh, he's
- 1:32:27Speaker 5: going to be in Tampa. Like he's not coming here,
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: So what what? Who's playing quarterback for this team if
- 1:32:33Speaker 5: you're not drafting one? Like it just that's the hardest
- 1:32:35Speaker 5: part of going away from quarterback at the top of
- 1:32:37Speaker 5: the draft is that there's no good options, Like you're
- 1:32:40Speaker 5: not paying Kirk Cousins that kind of money justin fields
- 1:32:43Speaker 5: is just as much of a of a chance as
- 1:32:45Speaker 5: taking one of these qbs in the draft. Is So,
- 1:32:48Speaker 5: where are you going to find that quarterback from? Because
- 1:32:51Speaker 5: you're not rolling Mac Jones back out there next year.
- 1:32:53Speaker 9: Absolutely?
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: No, he's got a new uh necklace. By the way,
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: let's head down to Matt in Virginia Beach might be
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: Parlo Territory. Was there, Matt? You didn't see Paul down there?
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: Digit he's just doing some school tours.
- 1:33:06Speaker 13: No, no Paul down here. But I'll keep I'll keep
- 1:33:08Speaker 13: my eyes field again.
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: What do you got.
- 1:33:12Speaker 13: It's good afternoon, everybody. Two quick questions for you, one
- 1:33:16Speaker 13: Patriots related, one not first question I had was the
- 1:33:20Speaker 13: themes with with the amount of depth that's at wide
- 1:33:24Speaker 13: receiver and tackle looking at the first round of the draft,
- 1:33:27Speaker 13: I feel like it could push some defensive players down
- 1:33:30Speaker 13: or maybe even out of the first round. And is
- 1:33:32Speaker 13: there a defensive player that you guys would consider at
- 1:33:35Speaker 13: thirty four should they happen to be there. And the
- 1:33:38Speaker 13: second question is just wondered if anybody tuned into the
- 1:33:40Speaker 13: Daytona five hundred yesterday, and so what do you think?
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: Absolutely, thanks, Matt.
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: Appreciate my father. I'm sure he did, so maybe maybe
- 1:33:47Speaker 5: he can tell.
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: You that's two car references and two calls there.
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: So I thought, you know, there's nothing like a NASCAR nap.
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: My step dad is my stepdad's golf now.
- 1:33:58Speaker 8: Those two like a Master's Sunday and Appea, no, my
- 1:34:01Speaker 8: stepdad grew up very much in the NASCAR scene and
- 1:34:04Speaker 8: his family's still down in North Carolina.
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: They build chassis actually.
- 1:34:07Speaker 8: But like so the chaces were like always on in
- 1:34:11Speaker 8: my mom's house when he was home, and I just
- 1:34:13Speaker 8: I just remember cracking up because he'd just sleeped through
- 1:34:15Speaker 8: the whole race, wake up for the last twenty laps, just.
- 1:34:17Speaker 6: The most important part.
- 1:34:19Speaker 8: Yeah, but it's like kind of I say the same
- 1:34:21Speaker 8: thing about like Saturday morning soccer.
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: I just like it on in the background sometimes, you gotta.
- 1:34:27Speaker 5: My father's in the car business, so he is a
- 1:34:30Speaker 5: huge NASCAR guy, and I grew up watching a lot
- 1:34:35Speaker 5: of NASCAR, grew up going aloud into New Hampshire the
- 1:34:37Speaker 5: track every single year we were there. So as a kid,
- 1:34:40Speaker 5: I was, you know, I could you started talking about
- 1:34:43Speaker 5: like mid two thousands NASCAR drivers. I can rattle off
- 1:34:47Speaker 5: like like twenty of them, but not so much anymore.
- 1:34:50Speaker 5: But he did text me yesterday and to remind me
- 1:34:52Speaker 5: that Daytona was was going on.
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: Did you ever watch a cold trickle? Drive it all?
- 1:34:56Speaker 5: That's not a real person, but a trickle. See Days
- 1:35:00Speaker 5: of Thunder, I know, I know, Days of Thunders. Yeah,
- 1:35:03Speaker 5: they pull him over on the highway, right, I mean, you.
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: Know him and Rusty they got into a little bit. Yeah.
- 1:35:09Speaker 5: I love Days of Thunder a good movie. I was
- 1:35:12Speaker 5: actually watching Tall Daked Nights together.
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: I know, I know the question about taking a defender
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: at the top of the second probably maybe, Yeah, it
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: makes you want to puke. I've mentioned Darius Robinson a
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: couple of just because every time you do a mock
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: draft he's kind of sitting there. He's a senior bol guy,
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: but you know, going back to like the defensive line
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: and free agency, like a guy like Wilkins or you know,
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: you can kind of fill that hole. And I don't
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: think it's a huge hole, but you know, Darius Robinson
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: one that just you know, he's always kind of there.
- 1:35:38Speaker 6: How far away from are we from just not taking
- 1:35:40Speaker 6: defense in the draft anymore because you can't tackle.
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: I mean the point I mean, Evan took one guy
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: in his mock and the seventh round I took like
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: two as flyers.
- 1:35:48Speaker 6: Like, are you going to take a linebacker? He's just
- 1:35:50Speaker 6: going to get a flag for every hip drap backle Like,
- 1:35:52Speaker 6: just take a receiver.
- 1:35:53Speaker 9: I would not be opposed for this being like a
- 1:35:55Speaker 9: ninety offense offensive draft.
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: No, it should And that's you know, and that's you know,
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: going back to the point of the free agency thing
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: is like you could really add some impact defenders that
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: improve your defense, you know, don't just like kind of
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: plug some holes make your defense better and then really
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: just go all out in the offense, you know, get
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: the young, fast, fresh legs on the offensive side of
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: the ball. I don't know, it makes it makes sense,
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: but a lot of different about it.
- 1:36:20Speaker 5: You can never have have too many pass rushes and
- 1:36:23Speaker 5: you can never have too many corners. So if there's
- 1:36:26Speaker 5: one of those players that's sitting there at thirty four
- 1:36:29Speaker 5: that you feel like, is you know, a shutdown corner
- 1:36:32Speaker 5: or a high end pass rusher, then I'm not gonna
- 1:36:34Speaker 5: get too mad about it. The other spot that I
- 1:36:36Speaker 5: do wonder about where they're going to go is free safety,
- 1:36:39Speaker 5: Like are they going to look for that true center fielder,
- 1:36:43Speaker 5: you know, Devin mccordy type of free safety. They don't
- 1:36:46Speaker 5: have one of those. There's not really an obvious one
- 1:36:48Speaker 5: with you know, antonin Winfield is probably gonna get tagged
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: by Tampa, So there's not an obvious one in free agency.
- 1:36:52Speaker 5: So maybe guy like Cameron Kitchens from Miami is someone
- 1:36:55Speaker 5: that could last to thirty four. That is a true
- 1:36:59Speaker 5: like post safety, you know, middle of the field range
- 1:37:02Speaker 5: to go sideline to sideline type of guy. But you know,
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: I don't know if that's how they're gonna play defense.
- 1:37:07Speaker 5: You know, modern defense a lot more split safety coverage,
- 1:37:09Speaker 5: you know, different types of looks that you don't necessarily
- 1:37:12Speaker 5: need that Ed Reid, you know, in the middle of
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: the field.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: Oh this is I don't know if I can read
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: this one. But how do youngins induced? Thank you. I
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: appreciate that. Don't lump me in with any youngins As
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: a Michigan guy, I'm giving McCarthy the thumbs down.
- 1:37:26Speaker 5: Michigan people will attack me when I say anything bad
- 1:37:29Speaker 5: about JJ McCarthy.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: I know the criteria for judging a QB is living
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: in the same state. McCarthy's all the tools, but he
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: is nothing special, carried by an amazing team around him,
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: never had to deal with pressure in his face, really
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: had to play from behind, doesn't have great counting stats.
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: Kind of sounds like.
- 1:37:42Speaker 9: Matt Literally that's mac.
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: I have to agree with Matisse in a way. Tendy's
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: are certainly not better than Prime Rib, but Prime Rib
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: is significantly overrated. Give me any cut of steak over
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: Prime Rib any day's for dessert rankings, can only wan
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: chocolate cake two, chocolate chip cookies three.
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: I agree that greater than Prime Rib, that's true, but.
- 1:38:03Speaker 6: It probably take steak over to Actually, no, Tendys are
- 1:38:06Speaker 6: just too good, man.
- 1:38:08Speaker 9: It's the way he calls them.
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: A bad tendy, and I'm off Tendy's. You know, you
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: know what I'm talking about. You, Yeah, everybody knows what
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: you're talking You get a bad tendy. Everyone in the
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: world knows what I'm talking about. And it's just it's
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: like they left the tendon in there, like like there's
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: like some kind of sinew if you will phoneless wings,
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: well we can we can get into that way. Without
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: the guys. All right, So we got one from Dan
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: and Va via Michigan. Goodayat PU crew. Uh. Firstly, great
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: to see the young guns having the run of the
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: studio today. I'm not really a young gun.
- 1:38:45Speaker 5: But dude, just go, just going.
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: Secondly, I'm shattered, shattered to learn that Fred is a
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: big reply all guy. Fred is like a father or
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: fun uncle to pe you a nation, and to find
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: out that he has a serious character like this is
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: just devastating. Next time you're telling us the microwaves fish
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: in the office kitchen, we have a joke about that.
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: I could see that.
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: Thirdly, it's tough losing Slater. The man is one hundred
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: percent class. A level of character unfortunately all too rare,
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: and not only sports but public life in general. Who
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: becomes the leader in the locker room now? Is there
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: a player who's ready to pick up the mantle or
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: is it a space waiting for someone to emerge.
- 1:39:24Speaker 5: There's never going to be another Matthew Slater in terms
- 1:39:27Speaker 5: of leadership. I think, you know that's that's a that's
- 1:39:29Speaker 5: gonna take an army like that. It's going to have
- 1:39:31Speaker 5: to be multiple guys. And you know, I think that
- 1:39:35Speaker 5: leadership also is gonna if you start winning games, then
- 1:39:39Speaker 5: all of a sudden it becomes easier.
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: And all of a sudden it's it's a chemistry to it,
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: and you know, how are you winning? Who are the
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: guys that are leading the way?
- 1:39:46Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: I mean I think, you know, I expect my boy
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: Jabril Peppers to continue to kind of bring that emotional energy.
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: But I mean that was a huge bowl. When they
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: lost jeed On last year, that was the first thing
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: I thought of was, you know, just where's the energy,
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: Where's you know, I'm going to miss his press conferences
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: and you know, keeping it light and you know, he
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: was such a big part of it, and you know,
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: as you've you know, speculated that you know, he could
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: be depending on contract issues, maybe not here have to
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: keep him. It's something that they've they've got to figure
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: out for sure.
- 1:40:11Speaker 9: I could see a guy like Dietrich Wise being like
- 1:40:14Speaker 9: like he's a leader already a captain.
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:40:19Speaker 9: He's more on the quiet side, like he really speaks,
- 1:40:21Speaker 9: he keeps himself. But Whise, I think I could see
- 1:40:24Speaker 9: him kind of I think.
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: You need kind of a Willie McGinnis that like everyone's
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: kind of afraid of and I think everyone to a standard,
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: you know that.
- 1:40:31Speaker 5: I feel like that's Bentley. And when I talked to
- 1:40:34Speaker 5: Devin mccorty about Drod Mayo, he said, when Mayo retired,
- 1:40:38Speaker 5: like he knew that he wasn't going to be able
- 1:40:40Speaker 5: to step into that like intimidator leadership role because Mayo
- 1:40:45Speaker 5: was both. Mayo was a talker and he had that
- 1:40:49Speaker 5: like you know, policing the locker a type of thing.
- 1:40:53Speaker 5: And so he said that basically, you know, mccordy took
- 1:40:57Speaker 5: over the raw rah, you know, leadership, he said to
- 1:41:00Speaker 5: the defense, and High Tower took over. They'll like, I'm
- 1:41:03Speaker 5: gonna kill you if you mess up, right, And so
- 1:41:06Speaker 5: I kind of look at Bentley as somebody that could
- 1:41:08Speaker 5: be that kind of intimidator type of leader. And you know,
- 1:41:12Speaker 5: they they're gonna need a new voice, you know that,
- 1:41:14Speaker 5: That's I think what they're still searching for.
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: Yeah, L from Wisconsin just chimes insane. The callers that
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: want to trade down and not get a QB are
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: going to make me explode. Yes, this team needs a
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: lot know who else has an offense with subpar players
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: Kansas City that they have a great QB. Had that
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: workout for them.
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: I'm not sure that they have put maybe the best.
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: James Pettigrew, who I'm officially a responsibility to call him
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: the most interesting Patriots fan in the world. Will Mapou
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: flourished this season. I had high hopes, but sort of
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: forgot about him as we thought Bill was holding him back. Marte,
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: Marte Mapu. Go, they're gonna use him right linebacker 'lb.
- 1:41:53Speaker 5: I don't want to hear anything more about hybrid. Okay,
- 1:41:55Speaker 5: like that sounds cool in theory, like, oh, he's a
- 1:41:58Speaker 5: he's a hybrid. He plays anywhere, Like yeah, not for
- 1:42:02Speaker 5: you make a Matt Milano.
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: But Rego chimes in. If Jefferson becomes available, I assume justin, Yeah, Thomas,
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: I think that's priority number one for the Patriots. They
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: have to do whatever it takes to acquire him.
- 1:42:16Speaker 5: Yeah, try two first round picks and probably more.
- 1:42:19Speaker 6: Yeah, and then paying him.
- 1:42:21Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean, look, I justin Jefferson's probably my favorite
- 1:42:25Speaker 5: receiver that I've ever studied in the draft, like a
- 1:42:29Speaker 5: number one. I was so sure that about that guy
- 1:42:32Speaker 5: coming out. I would absolutely love him to be a Patriot.
- 1:42:35Speaker 5: It would make my day.
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: But get you're gritty.
- 1:42:38Speaker 5: It's it's kind of how I feel about Marvin Harrison.
- 1:42:40Speaker 5: It's like, does it make sense like to trade all
- 1:42:43Speaker 5: those assets for a receiver right now? Like it just
- 1:42:46Speaker 5: doesn't make any sense.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: Well, we've seen Kirk Cousins and him together, like what
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: like you know what I mean, Like that's what it is, Like.
- 1:42:51Speaker 5: Yeah, that's as good as it's gonna get. It just
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: doesn't They're not Unfortunately, They're just not in a spot
- 1:42:57Speaker 5: to do something like that. Like if this was two
- 1:42:59Speaker 5: years from now and they had the quarterback and they
- 1:43:02Speaker 5: were just looking to add the final pieces to the puzzle.
- 1:43:04Speaker 5: And that's different the.
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: One piece away moves, you know. It's that like there's
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: certain moves that are one piece away. And again, I'm
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: gonna stay this all off season, Like does a move
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: help you get to Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, Like
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: I just see those two guys sitting above us when
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: I even mentioned Burrow or Tua, but those are the
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: guys that you have to beat. Does Dustin Jefferson help
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: you not?
- 1:43:24Speaker 4: Come on?
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: I mean maybe, but mostly I'd say no with like
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: guys like kir Cousins and all that. Sam from Kentucky
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: chiming in about twenty twenty one. I know we're moving
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: on to the draft, We're going to free agency.
- 1:43:35Speaker 9: Sam.
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: We didn't need second. We've probably seen the last of
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: Mac Jones and a Pat Jersey Pats Jersey. But I
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: went back and watched a few games from the twenty
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: twenty one season. The defense definitely helped out, but Mac
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: looked comfortable and did have some success. I wouldn't say
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: they were a great team, but I definitely say they
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: were least a good team. What do you think went wrong?
- 1:43:51Speaker 5: Oh? God, how much time?
- 1:43:54Speaker 9: Long story short? He lost his confidence.
- 1:43:57Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that that's a good way to sup
- 1:43:58Speaker 5: it up other teams.
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: Do you look at a little bit.
- 1:44:00Speaker 5: Yeah, that's like the first That's the one thing I
- 1:44:03Speaker 5: kind of disagree with because I I think that all
- 1:44:07Speaker 5: every quarterback has a skill set, right like, and every
- 1:44:09Speaker 5: quarterback plays a certain way. So really, I feel like
- 1:44:14Speaker 5: his development just stopped after twenty twenty one, and they
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: never kept the needle moving in the right direction after
- 1:44:20Speaker 5: that because of various reasons. You know, I feel like
- 1:44:24Speaker 5: he would have been fine adjusting to some of the
- 1:44:28Speaker 5: things that maybe defenses were doing with him. If he
- 1:44:31Speaker 5: didn't have Man Patricia as his offensive coordinator. If they
- 1:44:33Speaker 5: never you know, DeVante Parker is their big offseason move
- 1:44:37Speaker 5: at receiver. Like if they had actually done it correctly
- 1:44:40Speaker 5: in the rebuild, then I think he would have gotten
- 1:44:42Speaker 5: over that. But confidence, I think is a big part
- 1:44:46Speaker 5: of it. You know, you watch him play, he's you know, decisive,
- 1:44:50Speaker 5: he's not you know, anti in the pocket, poised right
- 1:44:53Speaker 5: like and now all that is just the opposite.
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: I still have the image in my mind of him
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: the first time we saw him in like me camp
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: rookie when rookie me and camp would have been just
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: ots or something. But it was like just he looked
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: more comfortable in the pocket, like his first time I
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: saw him on the practice field than he did last year.
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: It was crazy, though, I mean, you know, and especially
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: it stood out to me just because having come from
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: watching Stidham, you know, as a rookie a couple of
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: years earlier, not not in mini camp, but at least
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: in training camp where you know, you could just feel it,
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: and that's kind of where Mac ended up. It's just
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: it's one of those bizarre things where just because a
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: guy looks a certain way, even like right out of.
- 1:45:29Speaker 6: The gate for Week one Miami. It was like, you know,
- 1:45:31Speaker 6: you went from Tom, then he went from Cam and
- 1:45:33Speaker 6: then you like you hear the new cadence and he
- 1:45:34Speaker 6: completes the first pass like oh, like all right, we're good,
- 1:45:37Speaker 6: We're good, all right, cool enjoying the next twenty years.
- 1:45:39Speaker 6: And now it's just kind of like he just needs
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: a fresh start. I won't be surprised if he goes
- 1:45:43Speaker 6: somewhere and plays pretty well, to be honest, but he
- 1:45:45Speaker 6: just needs to.
- 1:45:46Speaker 5: I just I just will never stop wondering. Not that
- 1:45:49Speaker 5: I think that Matt Jones would have been this Hall
- 1:45:51Speaker 5: of Fame level quarterback, but if McDaniels never leaves and
- 1:45:55Speaker 5: they just keep the train rolling from twenty eight into
- 1:45:59Speaker 5: twenty twenty two, you know what, what would have it
- 1:46:02Speaker 5: had looked like? Like, you know, would he had been
- 1:46:04Speaker 5: at Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr, you know, level quarterback that
- 1:46:08Speaker 5: they could have won with. But we'll never know.
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: Nope, Well, we just got a commercial insurance quote here
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: to the mailbag, but I'm gonna I'm gonna ignore that one. Sorry,
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: we don't know to This is Jase from Canada, just
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: wondering how next year's team needs, how next year's team needs,
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: assuming everything goes according to you guys as mock drafts.
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: I know it's extremely early, but how is next year's
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: draft class looking that we can't get next year?
- 1:46:34Speaker 9: Sure?
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: The Fred thing was like, what.
- 1:46:36Speaker 5: I will I will always have a vendetta against. What
- 1:46:40Speaker 5: does next year's draft class look like? What did Jaden
- 1:46:43Speaker 5: Daniels look like? A year ago? No one had any
- 1:46:46Speaker 5: idea that Jayden Daniels was going to be a Heisman
- 1:46:48Speaker 5: Trophy winner and a top ten pick in the draft.
- 1:46:51Speaker 5: You could say that about so many guys, Joe Burrow,
- 1:46:53Speaker 5: you know so many guys, so I would hesitate to
- 1:46:57Speaker 5: say anything about what the quarterbacks look like in next
- 1:47:00Speaker 5: year's class. There's some guys that have potential, Shador Shadoor,
- 1:47:04Speaker 5: you know, Carson Beck from Georgia. Like, there's some guys
- 1:47:06Speaker 5: that have talent, you know, Quinnie Orys in Texas. Which
- 1:47:09Speaker 5: way their their final year goes? Who the heck knows?
- 1:47:13Speaker 5: It could either be you know, chaudor could be talked
- 1:47:15Speaker 5: about it Caleb Williams has talked about or it could
- 1:47:17Speaker 5: be talked about like a Day two pick.
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: I have no idea, Indy and Cleveland wants to know
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: of anybody any interest in Russell Wilson. Anybody no any
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: thoughts on scheme fit as well of in the specific request.
- 1:47:31Speaker 5: Oh for me fit with Russell Wilson. Uh, not a
- 1:47:34Speaker 5: big under center guy, Russell Wilson. You know, Russell Wilson's
- 1:47:38Speaker 5: always been put him in the gun, let him survey everything,
- 1:47:42Speaker 5: you know, at least once he became Russell Wilson. Maybe
- 1:47:44Speaker 5: early on with like Marshaun Lynch, they were maybe we're
- 1:47:46Speaker 5: a little bit more under center. But even then, you know,
- 1:47:49Speaker 5: because of his mobility, a lot of it was option stuff, right,
- 1:47:52Speaker 5: you know, trying to use his mobility to impact the
- 1:47:54Speaker 5: run games. So I would say that he's more of
- 1:47:57Speaker 5: a spread quarterback, more of a gun quarterback. But if
- 1:48:00Speaker 5: it was like Russell Wilson gets cut by the Broncos
- 1:48:03Speaker 5: and then is just like trying to catch on for
- 1:48:06Speaker 5: the twenty twenty four season at a big discount, then
- 1:48:08Speaker 5: that's that's one thing, you know, is could he be
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: a bridge quarterback for twenty twenty four Cam Newton's style.
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: Let's ride? Maybe Patriots Nation, Let's ride.
- 1:48:18Speaker 8: If he's willing to give his teammates his phone number, no, but.
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: Will they go to his birthday party?
- 1:48:23Speaker 9: Like?
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: These are my favorite things, like did everyone go to
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: his birthday party? Did he unfollow the team on social media?
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: These are like the modern things that get out of
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: Oh I don't know, he had a surprise party, but
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: not everybody.
- 1:48:34Speaker 9: Want It is weird that now like free agency has
- 1:48:38Speaker 9: come to that. I mean even with Deebo. With Deebo
- 1:48:40Speaker 9: last year, like he unfollowed like everything forty nine ers,
- 1:48:43Speaker 9: deleted every forty nineers picture on his page until the
- 1:48:46Speaker 9: deal is.
- 1:48:46Speaker 6: Done in the club making signs mas.
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: It's like, already unfollow y'all anymore?
- 1:48:52Speaker 5: So annoying. I mean, hey, I just think they liked
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: the attention, honestly, like oh, justin Fields one all the
- 1:49:00Speaker 5: Bears and then it like it's like a story for
- 1:49:02Speaker 5: like fifteen minutes, and I should.
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: I mean we should all, but you don't just do that.
- 1:49:06Speaker 6: No, you don't like you me?
- 1:49:08Speaker 5: He doesn't follow me?
- 1:49:09Speaker 9: Well, but I think he's like I don't need any more.
- 1:49:15Speaker 9: It makes sense though, because it's like they obviously can't
- 1:49:18Speaker 9: draft Caleb Williams and keep him.
- 1:49:20Speaker 17: So like yeah, yeah, if somebody has to do something,
- 1:49:24Speaker 17: the Bear's decision I find to be pretty easy. Like,
- 1:49:27Speaker 17: I think it's your choice Caleb Williams, Like, I think
- 1:49:29Speaker 17: that's not even a question.
- 1:49:32Speaker 6: But I I think contract wise both, I think both.
- 1:49:36Speaker 5: But mostly skill. But you know, just in terms of
- 1:49:39Speaker 5: you know, what Caleb Williams can do as a passer
- 1:49:42Speaker 5: is just a lot more advanced, I would say, than
- 1:49:44Speaker 5: what Justin Fields brings to the table. But what I
- 1:49:47Speaker 5: find interesting about Chicago is you know, what is Justin
- 1:49:51Speaker 5: Fields actually worth on the open market? Like, is you
- 1:49:55Speaker 5: know there's there's rumors out there that he could be
- 1:49:58Speaker 5: worth like a back into the first round pick, Like
- 1:50:02Speaker 5: you can give up a first round pick for Justin Fields.
- 1:50:04Speaker 5: Like it's just interesting.
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: This is like one of those moments where Duke chimes
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: in with something that everybody knew a year ago. But
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: I was I was doing some research on Brendan Rice.
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and Caleb Williams uncorked the pass to him
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: that like he's gonna go through his body Like it
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: was it was like, you know, Cab Williams outside the
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: pocket and then just stops and just absolutely uncorked one.
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't know, I've ever seen somebody throw
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: a ball that hard. From like thirty yards out and
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: I didn't even know I caught it, but there it is.
- 1:50:29Speaker 5: You know, there's a there's a new word amongst draft Twitter.
- 1:50:33Speaker 5: Oh boy, that a new a new adjective to describe
- 1:50:36Speaker 5: a quarterback arm elasticity.
- 1:50:39Speaker 9: No, I think you I think I think you got
- 1:50:40Speaker 9: that wrong. It's not draft Twitter. That's nerd Twitter.
- 1:50:43Speaker 5: That's that's draft twitter Twitter. So you know, like having
- 1:50:47Speaker 5: you know, you know that elastic arm that like just
- 1:50:49Speaker 5: from any angle, any platform, you can just flick the
- 1:50:52Speaker 5: wrist and the ball goes sixty yards. That's Cab Williams.
- 1:50:55Speaker 9: I'd say Michael Pennix has that too.
- 1:50:57Speaker 5: I don't know if he has.
- 1:51:00Speaker 6: I don't know. If he just doesn't want to watch
- 1:51:02Speaker 6: a left lefty quarterback, I'll just watch it.
- 1:51:04Speaker 9: Through even doesn't either doesn't want to lefty.
- 1:51:06Speaker 5: No, I especially don't want a lefty that has an
- 1:51:09Speaker 5: awkward throwing motion. Like on top of him being a lefty,
- 1:51:12Speaker 5: he also throws already like Phil like from like the
- 1:51:16Speaker 5: side we'll be.
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: We'll be backs facing to the field on the press
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: box and just watching through a mirror watching.
- 1:51:24Speaker 5: If you watch to a flipped it makes a huge difference. Yeah,
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: you're like, oh wow, why can't you.
- 1:51:29Speaker 3: Just do that the flip horizontal filter?
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:51:32Speaker 9: Who, I just want to know who's in desperate need
- 1:51:35Speaker 9: for fields outside of obviously the Patriots.
- 1:51:38Speaker 6: Falcons, Steelers, the Falcons.
- 1:51:40Speaker 5: The Falcons is probably the best fit because they do
- 1:51:43Speaker 5: have some supporting cast members that can help him. Yeah,
- 1:51:46Speaker 5: that too, but you know, having him in an offense
- 1:51:49Speaker 5: with Bijon and with Drake London and Kyle Pitts like
- 1:51:51Speaker 5: that is intriguing if you're Atlanta. I just I can't
- 1:51:55Speaker 5: gauge his market right now in terms of trade value
- 1:51:57Speaker 5: because like, what has he really shown? Has he shown
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: that he's a starting caliber? Just keeps showing the game
- 1:52:03Speaker 5: from here for twenty and then I did this to
- 1:52:05Speaker 5: the Patriots.
- 1:52:06Speaker 6: Yeah, and then we didn't win again for another year.
- 1:52:10Speaker 9: So that would be so, say, if he did go
- 1:52:12Speaker 9: to the Falcons and then that put what Caleb Williams
- 1:52:14Speaker 9: at two and then Patriots at what would you take?
- 1:52:16Speaker 5: Well, you mean.
- 1:52:20Speaker 9: One?
- 1:52:20Speaker 5: He go one?
- 1:52:21Speaker 9: Well, yeah, yeah, one?
- 1:52:22Speaker 5: And then who would it depends on who the commanders
- 1:52:25Speaker 5: take like that. You know, I don't know.
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: I could see something dumb do something dumb.
- 1:52:30Speaker 9: I could see the commanders.
- 1:52:32Speaker 5: I could see the commanders taking Jayden Daniels because if
- 1:52:34Speaker 5: you're Cliff Kingsbury in that style of offense, you know,
- 1:52:38Speaker 5: the air raid, like, you want a quarterback that's mobile
- 1:52:40Speaker 5: and that can run around a little bit. And I
- 1:52:43Speaker 5: look at you know, the success that he's had most
- 1:52:46Speaker 5: of the time, it's come with you know, Kyler when
- 1:52:49Speaker 5: he was healthy in Arizona. You know a guy like
- 1:52:52Speaker 5: Patrick Mahomes in college, Like, those guys are all mobile
- 1:52:55Speaker 5: and you can all move around. Now Drake May is
- 1:52:57Speaker 5: not immobile, but obviously, you know Jayden dan it was
- 1:53:00Speaker 5: a different level of mobility. So if you're looking at
- 1:53:02Speaker 5: trying to unlock the entire Kingsbury offense, have some of
- 1:53:06Speaker 5: that RPO, have some of those option runs like that's
- 1:53:08Speaker 5: definitely more a fit for Jaden Daniels. So I wouldn't
- 1:53:12Speaker 5: rule out commanders taking Daniels that too.
- 1:53:15Speaker 9: Do we think all this is going to be ironed
- 1:53:16Speaker 9: out as far as like that trade if it does happen,
- 1:53:20Speaker 9: do you think it'll happen like well before the draft
- 1:53:22Speaker 9: or you think we'll be finding out like draft mourning,
- 1:53:25Speaker 9: like they're not picking at one or they are.
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: I think that's probably more common, you know, closer to
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: like everybody wants to feel it out and you know,
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: try to play this against that and this is what
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: they're offering, and you know usually but but I think
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: anything could happen. I mean, it's you know, I mean,
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: I remember what when Clowney got drafted, it was like
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: two days in advance. You knew, yeah, that that was
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: the pick, and they told everybody.
- 1:53:45Speaker 5: So it's a unique circumstance, I think because Justin Fields
- 1:53:50Speaker 5: has shown just enough that if you're a team Mike
- 1:53:53Speaker 5: Atlanta or even the Patriots to an extent, like you
- 1:53:55Speaker 5: could convince yourself that that could be the guy, and
- 1:53:57Speaker 5: that that guy usually doesn't get moved like too often
- 1:54:02Speaker 5: in Arizona did it. They let go Josh Rosen like
- 1:54:05Speaker 5: nobody thought Josh Josh rozen was terrible, Like no one
- 1:54:07Speaker 5: thought that he was going to be anything, and he wasn't.
- 1:54:10Speaker 5: So that was like a no brainer. Like this one,
- 1:54:11Speaker 5: there's at least an argument to be made that Justin
- 1:54:15Speaker 5: Fields is good enough to be a starting quarterback in
- 1:54:18Speaker 5: this league.
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: Try to bang out these last two emails. I feel
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: like I've done a great shob today on the emails,
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: getting through that you've been said, Please write in and
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: tell Fred that I read almost every single one of them.
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: This one's from Jake going back to adding defensive pieces,
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: and this was touched on before. I think corner is
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: a sneaky need. Amidst amidst all the talks about quarterback,
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: wide receiver, etc. Jay Jones is thirty one this year,
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: Marcus Jones unproven, Miles Bryant good role player free agent.
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: That leaves just Christian Gonzalez coming off a major injury.
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: Jac Jackson is probably gonna get cut in Alex Austin.
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: I think we really need someone to lock down the
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: side of the field opposite. Gonzo would love to hear
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: the gang's thoughts. I'll offer mine real quick. I mean,
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: I don't disagree, but I think Donathan don't, Donnithan didn't.
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: I can't talk here at the end of the show.
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: I mean, I still think he's got a lot in
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: the tank. He played through injury last year, so I'm
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: not like, oh, we got to replace him immediately. I
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: do think that's a long term need. But I'd throw
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: Isaiah Bolden in there, who unfortunately didn't make it out
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: of that that Green Bay game. Scary concussion, spent the
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: year on IR, but was really just a big dude
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: who was getting some chances. I don't want to like
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: say that, oh he was in the mix to be
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: a start or anything like that, but I don't know.
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: Just from the limited amount we saw him, he's intriguing
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: to me, like he's just got He's a specimen as
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: far as size and speed and all that. So I
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: just I think I do think slots of Need. I
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: think they need maybe make an addition there in free agency.
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: But I think I'm okay with Gonzalez and Jonathan Jones
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: on the outside at least the start, and then you know,
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: let Jonathan Jones slide inside if you need to on
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: on you know, passing downs.
- 1:55:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I'll see what Kansas City does with the franchise attack.
- 1:55:49Speaker 5: They're not going to attack Chris Jones, but they might
- 1:55:51Speaker 5: tackle Jerious Need. But if he hits free agency, I
- 1:55:55Speaker 5: would give the back to Lagarious Steed like him and
- 1:55:58Speaker 5: Christian Gonzales, you know, the same field together. Good luck
- 1:56:01Speaker 5: throwing against that secondary. You'd be in for a long day.
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: Good luck. One last one, last one here from Ray
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: who oh geez, oh geez, Ray, Good job though he
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: I mean he laid out the whole off season. I
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: mean I can kind of run through some of it.
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: But you know, he wants to cut Ja C. Jackson,
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: cut Jamichael Hasty for some savings.
- 1:56:18Speaker 5: Got to.
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: Know what did I do?
- 1:56:21Speaker 9: I would love to add another J in there and
- 1:56:23Speaker 9: cut Juju.
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: But he likes a lot of the internal. I mean
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: he's got when You and Born and Duggar and Elliott
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: and Henry and Mills and j Farrell Brown and Jalen
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: Rigger and Anthrony Jenny and Myles. But I mean he's
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: got everybody kind of being resigned, which I have a
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: little bit of a hard time seeing with like Jalen Mills,
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: Ezekiel Elliott, I mean Farrell Brown, I'd be I'd be
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: down with you kind of do you want to keep seek?
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: I mean I wouldn't. We talked about it. Shows that's
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: like the one.
- 1:56:50Speaker 9: In the draft.
- 1:56:50Speaker 5: Do you mean a free agency either? But like free agency?
- 1:56:53Speaker 5: I wonder And I know this is probably a longer
- 1:56:55Speaker 5: conversation than we don't have time for, but at some
- 1:56:58Speaker 5: point the running back position is gonna be so undervalue
- 1:57:01Speaker 5: that it's almost a value, right, And like you look
- 1:57:03Speaker 5: at a lot of these backs, like, is Derek Henry
- 1:57:06Speaker 5: gonna get paid again? You know, Tony Pollard, Austin Eckler,
- 1:57:09Speaker 5: Josh Jacobs, Saquon Barkley, Like those are some big names
- 1:57:12Speaker 5: in free agency, and if they get to free agency
- 1:57:14Speaker 5: and there's no money there for them, like you might
- 1:57:17Speaker 5: be able to get Saquon Barkley at six.
- 1:57:18Speaker 9: Million a year, but he's an injury prone.
- 1:57:21Speaker 5: But he's not gonna be your number one back, like
- 1:57:23Speaker 5: you know, or at least he's gonna be in a
- 1:57:24Speaker 5: platoon with Rimandre. So like, I just look at these
- 1:57:27Speaker 5: running backs and at some point it almost becomes value.
- 1:57:31Speaker 5: It gets a zig when everybody else is zagging that
- 1:57:33Speaker 5: you look at it and you say, well, if no
- 1:57:34Speaker 5: one else is gonna pay the guy that was the
- 1:57:36Speaker 5: rushing champ two years ago and Josh Jacobs, then you
- 1:57:39Speaker 5: know we can get him at X price, Like it
- 1:57:41Speaker 5: almost becomes a value. So I look at that and
- 1:57:45Speaker 5: I wonder if maybe one of those guys is worth it.
- 1:57:48Speaker 5: I really like Eckler and Pollard.
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: Honestly, I'm just gonna finish here with the draft that
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: Ray lays out because it's I think it's it's these
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: are the kind of thoughts that are going through my head.
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: So in the first one with Jaden Daniels. In the
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: second he said, best offensive tackle available Jordan Morgan, Patrick,
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: Paul Tyler Goyton. Third, best wide receiver, offensive tackle, tight
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: end available, Roman Wilson, Jalen mcmill and, Malchai Corley, Kingsley,
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: Suwamattaya and Javon Foster. Fourth best wide receiver, rot tight
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: end available again Blake Fisher, Katee Stover, Brendan Rice, Javon Foster,
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: Ricky Purcell. Fifth running back, Blake Watson, Frank cor Junior,
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: six another quarterback maybe, and then the seventh kicker, free safety, quarterback.
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: I mean I kind of agree just generally with the
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: top where it's like quarterback, offensive tackle, receiver, tight end.
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: Like in the first two days, you need to check
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: a few of those boxes.
- 1:58:39Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I think that. You know, the interesting thing
- 1:58:41Speaker 5: is is where do you let the board kind of
- 1:58:43Speaker 5: fall to you. Is it a tackle, is it at receiver.
- 1:58:46Speaker 5: I think at tackle you're risking it. I think there's
- 1:58:49Speaker 5: like eight really good tackles in this class, maybe ten
- 1:58:53Speaker 5: guys that can play, and then that parade's going to
- 1:58:57Speaker 5: go by quickly, so if you are sitting there, you
- 1:58:59Speaker 5: know you don't take one with your first two picks
- 1:59:02Speaker 5: by the time you get to the third round. I'm
- 1:59:04Speaker 5: not sure if there is a Day one starter at
- 1:59:06Speaker 5: tackle whereas a receiver there. There could be. With the
- 1:59:09Speaker 5: death in this class.
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: All right, I think that's gonna do it for us.
