- 0:15Speaker 1: Oh, I'm just grooving over here. Welcome, everybody, to Mic
- 0:18Speaker 1: Drop Comedy, the Chandler edition. Hi, I'm Sari Belyak. Welcome back.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I'm very excited today. We have a special guest here
- 0:26Speaker 1: with us, Milan Patel from Los Angeles. Hi, Milan. How
- 0:29Speaker 1: are you?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Hey, Sari. I'm doing good. It was cool to see
- 0:33Speaker 2: you groove over there for a second.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that intro music is- I was gonna groove a little.
- 0:38Speaker 1: It was kind of hot, right? Hopefully people will also
- 0:40Speaker 1: check the video option. It's kind of funky.
- 0:44Speaker 2: It was good. I liked it.
- 0:46Speaker 1: So I'm very excited that you're coming to visit us
- 0:49Speaker 1: at Mic Drop in Chandler this Sunday. Have you been
- 0:54Speaker 1: to Phoenix or Chandler before?
- 0:59Speaker 2: No, I haven't. Sorry. Everybody's blowing up right now. I
- 1:07Speaker 2: have audio coming in from a different source right now.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I'm so sorry. Okay, sorry. You can try that again. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:15Speaker 2: let's do it again.
- 1:17Speaker 1: That's all right. That's why we got Nick. She's a pro.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Have you ever been to Phoenix or Chandler before?
- 1:25Speaker 2: Yeah, when I was a kid. I have some family
- 1:28Speaker 2: friends that live, I think, actually in Chandler. So It's
- 1:32Speaker 2: been maybe 20 years, probably more than that, since I've
- 1:35Speaker 2: been to Phoenix. But I've been all around Arizona. We
- 1:38Speaker 2: went to Sedona and I forget where.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Tustin?
- 1:42Speaker 2: Is Tustin a place?
- 1:44Speaker 1: Tustin? I think so. If so, I don't know what
- 1:48Speaker 1: it is. Did you get some crystals in Sedona?
- 1:52Speaker 2: We went panning for gold somewhere. That's a good one.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah.
- 1:58Speaker 2: And, uh, somebody did find gold. I think we were
- 2:00Speaker 2: kids and like one of my cousins did find like
- 2:03Speaker 2: a gold nugget, uh, that was actually worth quite a bit.
- 2:06Speaker 2: So that's exciting. Big mistake from the, from the goal,
- 2:10Speaker 2: from the gold, the mining company to like leave that
- 2:13Speaker 2: one in the mix. There's, there's, I'm pretty sure they're
- 2:15Speaker 2: supposed to find those ones before the tourists come over.
- 2:18Speaker 1: You said that was your cousin that found it.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:21Speaker 1: What is that cousin doing now? Did they leverage that
- 2:24Speaker 1: gold that they found?
- 2:25Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. I mean, they're a billionaire now. Crypto? Yeah,
- 2:30Speaker 2: they're like Warren Buffett. They turned one gold nugget into
- 2:33Speaker 2: a billion dollars of crypto.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I happen to love Sedona. It's like, I don't know,
- 2:39Speaker 1: an hour and a half or two hours north from
- 2:41Speaker 1: us here in Phoenix. But it's definitely a strange place
- 2:46Speaker 1: where everyone's just like, come get your aura red and
- 2:49Speaker 1: get your crystal. I like going there. The hiking there
- 2:52Speaker 1: is really beautiful. There's a lot of people outside. But
- 2:55Speaker 1: it's a for sure, like, it's a weird spot.
- 3:00Speaker 2: I can imagine.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I mean, there's something to those red rocks. There's some
- 3:04Speaker 2: weird force emanating in that part of the desert.
- 3:08Speaker 1: They are magical.
- 3:11Speaker 2: They're very cool. It's a distinct memory of mine. So
- 3:14Speaker 2: all that is to say, yes, I've been to Phoenix before.
- 3:17Speaker 2: The only thing I remember about Phoenix is when I
- 3:19Speaker 2: was a kid, I wanted to play basketball there. at 5pm.
- 3:23Speaker 2: And everyone looked at me like I was crazy. They're like,
- 3:25Speaker 2: we you can't go outside right now. It's it's five
- 3:28Speaker 2: o'clock in the afternoon. Like you'll die.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Okay. And I'm assuming this was like summertime.
- 3:33Speaker 2: This was summertime. Yeah. People were looking at me like
- 3:37Speaker 2: I was insane.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Okay, so you'll be happy to know right now in February,
- 3:41Speaker 1: the weather is very nice. You might even need a jacket.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Oh, that is good. That's kind of why I did
- 3:46Speaker 2: this podcast is to get a weather report from you guys.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I am a woman on the ground for you. I
- 3:51Speaker 1: can tell you today the weather was beautiful. It was
- 3:54Speaker 1: a little cold and rainy. So you can get your
- 3:56Speaker 1: like white girl, your coffee and kind of hold it
- 3:59Speaker 1: and like look out the window while you're here. I
- 4:02Speaker 1: think you'll like it much more than trying to play
- 4:05Speaker 1: basketball in the afternoon in the summer when you can
- 4:08Speaker 1: like fry eggs on the sidewalk. Yeah.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I look forward to that. That's a vibe.
- 4:13Speaker 2: I'm going to be doing that. It's actually in California.
- 4:15Speaker 2: It's the exact same weather. It's just been like raining
- 4:18Speaker 2: and then like slightly cool. So I think I'm much
- 4:21Speaker 2: more mentally prepared now to come to Phoenix. It's 20
- 4:26Speaker 2: years in the making, but I'm finally ready to conquer Phoenix.
- 4:31Speaker 1: You know, I have a feeling you're going to find
- 4:33Speaker 1: gold again.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yes, comedic gold. Is that a good transition?
- 4:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think we're crushing it. Um, so you,
- 4:43Speaker 1: you live in Los Angeles. Yes.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Yes, I do. I've lived here for seven years now almost,
- 4:49Speaker 2: but I'm from Portland, Oregon, or like a suburb of Portland, Oregon.
- 4:54Speaker 2: It's called Vancouver, Washington. Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So is your move from Portland to LA? Is that
- 5:01Speaker 1: for comedy or for when you were doing that?
- 5:05Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely moved here to do standup and, uh, writing
- 5:09Speaker 2: and other types of things.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So Nice. So how long have you been out in
- 5:13Speaker 1: Los Angeles?
- 5:15Speaker 2: About seven years now.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Okay. And what part of LA do you reside?
- 5:21Speaker 2: I just moved to Glendale. I moved today, actually.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I was going to mention it. I was like, not
- 5:27Speaker 1: to put you on the spot, but Nick, our producer,
- 5:30Speaker 1: and I were talking and I was like, he said
- 5:32Speaker 1: he's moving today. I was like, that's pretty impressive because
- 5:37Speaker 1: that's usually a super stressful experience. Yeah.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Well, it's a little less stressful. I'm moving in with
- 5:43Speaker 2: my girlfriend who already lives in this place. So it's
- 5:47Speaker 2: not like having to move in somewhere, set up the Wi-Fi.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I mean, that would be impressive if I called the
- 5:53Speaker 2: internet company. I was like, hey, I have to record
- 5:54Speaker 2: this podcast. And you guys, ASAP.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I'm very important. We need to get this set up.
- 5:59Speaker 1: That's why I was impressed yesterday. You were like, yeah, no,
- 6:01Speaker 1: it'll be fine. We'll have it set up. I was like,
- 6:03Speaker 1: are you sure? We can reschedule if you need to.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yeah. You probably thought like, wow, this guy has a
- 6:09Speaker 2: whole team just setting up his internet for.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Him and like his assistant and his manager on it.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It's all me. It's all me.
- 6:17Speaker 1: I love it. I love it. So you, it sounds
- 6:20Speaker 1: like you started doing comedy in Portland. Is that right? Yes.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Well, I started in Seattle actually when I went to
- 6:26Speaker 2: college in Seattle. So, um, first couple of years of
- 6:29Speaker 2: doing comedy was there and then moved to Portland after
- 6:33Speaker 2: that and was in Portland for like, I don't know,
- 6:35Speaker 2: like five or six years doing comedy.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Very cool. How was your experience starting in Portland?
- 6:44Speaker 2: Portland was fun. There was a lot of comedy. There
- 6:47Speaker 2: was a lot of opportunity to do stand-up when I
- 6:51Speaker 2: was there, and Seattle is technically where I started, and
- 6:56Speaker 2: I had a really great time living in Seattle and
- 7:00Speaker 2: doing comedy there because it's a bigger city than Portland,
- 7:03Speaker 2: and there were just lots of a lot of diversity
- 7:07Speaker 2: in terms of like the types of comedy and the
- 7:08Speaker 2: types of comedians that you would see. And then Portland
- 7:10Speaker 2: was kind of going into a smaller kind of friendlier
- 7:13Speaker 2: scene and just having a lot of opportunities to like
- 7:16Speaker 2: get on stage and kind of develop my voice. So I, I,
- 7:19Speaker 2: I love starting in Seattle and Portland. I made a
- 7:22Speaker 2: lot of, you know, great friends and was able to
- 7:26Speaker 2: kind of develop there.
- 7:28Speaker 1: That's really cool. I'm thinking I haven't performed in Portland. My,
- 7:35Speaker 1: like things I've heard about this, like the scene there
- 7:38Speaker 1: and people there, obviously people worrying about like, you know,
- 7:44Speaker 1: saying the wrong thing or people being offended. So it's,
- 7:47Speaker 1: it's interesting to hear. I've also heard that people are
- 7:50Speaker 1: just like, yeah, if you're not a jerk or a
- 7:53Speaker 1: horrible person, like you can do comedy everywhere. There's tons
- 7:56Speaker 1: of great opportunities there.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, definitely. Like when I was there I, maybe,
- 8:03Speaker 2: maybe now it's less, uh, woke, I guess, uh, just
- 8:07Speaker 2: because everything's less woke now, but I'm actually very grateful for,
- 8:11Speaker 2: you know, being in a place like that when I
- 8:13Speaker 2: was developing, because it forces you to, um, you know,
- 8:17Speaker 2: to be sensitive and careful about what you say and
- 8:19Speaker 2: like how you say it. And it kind of made
- 8:21Speaker 2: me a better comedian and, In general, the culture and
- 8:26Speaker 2: the politics of a place like that are what I
- 8:29Speaker 2: agree with anyway. So I brushed up against it a
- 8:32Speaker 2: lot in my early years of doing comedy, but I'm
- 8:35Speaker 2: ultimately grateful for learning how to do comedy there.
- 8:38Speaker 1: That's really cool to hear. We should cut that soundbite.
- 8:43Speaker 1: That's nice to hear that it encourages people you know,
- 8:47Speaker 1: to not just go for like the, the first thought
- 8:50Speaker 1: or low hanging fruit to like really consider and do
- 8:54Speaker 1: thoughtful comedy. Yeah.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of thoughtful, like interesting comedy
- 8:59Speaker 2: that has comedians that have come out of Portland, whether
- 9:02Speaker 2: they still live there, live in LA now.
- 9:06Speaker 1: So what would you say in moving to LA? What
- 9:08Speaker 1: was like the biggest shock for you, either LA related
- 9:12Speaker 1: or comedy related, like moving there from. from Portland and
- 9:16Speaker 1: after living like more Pacific Northwest, I know coming out
- 9:20Speaker 1: to LA, like what were you just like, this place
- 9:23Speaker 1: is bonkers.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Um, not in a bad way, but it's bonkers. Yeah.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:30Speaker 2: I was just, I had a blast. Like a lot
- 9:32Speaker 2: of people move to LA and they maybe don't like it,
- 9:36Speaker 2: especially if they come from a smaller scene, but I
- 9:38Speaker 2: was just so, uh, taken aback in a good way by, uh,
- 9:43Speaker 2: like how many shows were happening every night, like how
- 9:45Speaker 2: many comedians were performing, how many different types of comedians. Again,
- 9:51Speaker 2: just like the diversity of, you know, comedians and comedic
- 9:56Speaker 2: styles and all that stuff. Like I was in a
- 9:59Speaker 2: good way blown away and surprised by how endless it
- 10:03Speaker 2: all feels and and I've gotten to know more people
- 10:06Speaker 2: as I've been here over the last few years but
- 10:08Speaker 2: it still feels like there's a lot of stuff I
- 10:10Speaker 2: don't know and there's always new people moving here and
- 10:13Speaker 2: there's new people starting shows and it just feels like
- 10:16Speaker 2: uh in a good way like I'll never be able
- 10:18Speaker 2: to understand the breadth of you know, what's going on here,
- 10:21Speaker 2: either both in comedy and then like other art forms too.
- 10:24Speaker 2: You know, I've met people that do, you know, TV stuff,
- 10:27Speaker 2: film stuff, like animation, art. And I was, that was, yeah,
- 10:34Speaker 2: that was kind of the thing that I was blown
- 10:35Speaker 2: away by. Hmm.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Are you interested in those avenues as well?
- 10:42Speaker 2: Yeah. I like writing. I have animated before and I'm
- 10:47Speaker 2: interested in getting back into it again.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:50Speaker 2: And I like everything, so I'm very flexible. And stand-up,
- 10:55Speaker 2: I'll always kind of do stand-up because it's just what
- 10:58Speaker 2: I've been doing for so long and I enjoy it.
- 10:59Speaker 2: But yeah, I'm definitely interested in all those other things too.
- 11:03Speaker 1: But it sounds like the stand-up aspect of it came
- 11:06Speaker 1: first for you?
- 11:07Speaker 2: Yeah, stand-up just was the first thing that I did.
- 11:10Speaker 2: It's the most accessible thing. I mean, for better or
- 11:13Speaker 2: for worse, it's a pretty low barrier to entry. You
- 11:15Speaker 2: just have to... I mean, most places you can just like.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Afford a Diet Coke, you can get on stage and
- 11:23Speaker 2: pretty much say whatever you want. I don't know if
- 11:24Speaker 2: that's a good thing or a bad thing.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Let's not put that out there. We don't want to
- 11:29Speaker 1: spread the word. You're like, if you're a little bit
- 11:31Speaker 1: mentally ill and you got like a dollar or whatever
- 11:34Speaker 1: for a soda.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah, people are like, I could afford a Diet Coke.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I just went through a divorce. I could say some
- 11:41Speaker 1: horrible things into a microphone.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Yeah. This guy on this podcast said I could do it.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Yeah, he believed in me. Um, real quick, Nick, um,
- 11:54Speaker 1: do you have any, uh, updates? I'm looking, we can
- 11:59Speaker 1: just keep, uh, chatting, but it looks like we're still
- 12:02Speaker 1: awaiting our questions. Yeah. So far we're waiting.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Um, I even texted Jenny and Carlos direct, even if
- 12:10Speaker 3: they gave me screenshots.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Um, but we'll see.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Okay.
- 12:16Speaker 1: That's fine. I just was like, I don't want to
- 12:18Speaker 1: keep yapping.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Um, if, If we got, I can try to, I
- 12:23Speaker 2: can try to guess like your favorite foods.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Yes. You want to guess the answers without.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Just your favorite movie, your, uh, I don't know. Favorite
- 12:34Speaker 2: article of clothing.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Um, I was really excited to see, cause I, followed
- 12:38Speaker 1: you on social media for for looks like years before
- 12:42Speaker 1: this I don't know um where I saw you but
- 12:44Speaker 1: yeah I love all of your clips and I was
- 12:47Speaker 1: excited to see you recorded um at or you performed
- 12:50Speaker 1: at Netflix as a joke.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Yeah uh they do like a Netflix introducing series uh
- 12:57Speaker 2: every year and uh they record a little special for
- 13:02Speaker 2: you it's I think mine's like about nine ish minutes
- 13:05Speaker 2: uh and they put it on YouTube. So it's confusing,
- 13:09Speaker 2: but I have a Netflix special on YouTube. It's only
- 13:12Speaker 2: on YouTube, but it was a cool opportunity to do.
- 13:17Speaker 2: It was my first taping.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Okay, tell us about that, because I feel like that
- 13:23Speaker 1: would be so exciting and terrifying. What was that like
- 13:27Speaker 1: for you?
- 13:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I was surprised, but I was actually pretty scared,
- 13:31Speaker 2: because I've been doing comedy for a really long time.
- 13:34Speaker 2: And so when you get to do your first taping,
- 13:37Speaker 2: you know, like 10, 15 years into standup, there's a
- 13:40Speaker 2: lot of pressure on it. And so your instincts do
- 13:46Speaker 2: kick in eventually, but it was cool. We did like
- 13:49Speaker 2: a early show and a late show, and then you
- 13:51Speaker 2: get to kind of like edit together the best parts
- 13:54Speaker 2: of each one or whatever. But it, I think mine
- 13:57Speaker 2: ended up just being the late show was my set
- 14:00Speaker 2: that I ended up doing, but, Yeah, it was like
- 14:02Speaker 2: a nerve wracking thing, but I invited a lot of
- 14:04Speaker 2: my friends out and preparing for it was a really
- 14:09Speaker 2: interesting experience because it's not like preparing for a regular show,
- 14:12Speaker 2: you're preparing for a film showcase type of thing. And
- 14:15Speaker 2: so I had a lot of opportunities to like run
- 14:17Speaker 2: the set around LA before I filmed it. And the
- 14:22Speaker 2: actual experience was really cool just because it was like
- 14:24Speaker 2: a huge theater in Los Angeles.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Where was it? It looked really beautiful.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I want to say the Avalon Theater in Los Angeles.
- 14:34Speaker 2: And I think it's in West Hollywood. And yeah, it
- 14:38Speaker 2: was just really cool. It was cool to perform in
- 14:39Speaker 2: a huge theater that was packed out. And other than that,
- 14:45Speaker 2: it was kind of just like doing a normal set.
- 14:49Speaker 1: That was something with Netflix. Did they obviously like, for
- 14:52Speaker 1: a late night set, they would maybe tell you like,
- 14:55Speaker 1: don't say this, or you can't, you know, use this
- 14:58Speaker 1: brand name. Does Netflix do anything like that with your
- 15:01Speaker 1: material or they're just like, go for it, say what
- 15:04Speaker 1: you want?
- 15:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I think overall they're just like, go for it,
- 15:06Speaker 2: say whatever you want. There's not the same restrictions as
- 15:11Speaker 2: you would have with TV, obviously, because this is just
- 15:16Speaker 2: gonna go online. So you can say whatever you want,
- 15:18Speaker 2: but they pick people, I think, who they believe will
- 15:24Speaker 2: do material that's in line with what they want to
- 15:27Speaker 2: put out there anyway. So they give you notes before
- 15:30Speaker 2: you do your set. You kind of tell them the
- 15:33Speaker 2: jokes that you want to do. And they can, obviously,
- 15:37Speaker 2: I'm sure they could say yes or no to certain things,
- 15:40Speaker 2: but nothing that I wanted to do was controversial or
- 15:45Speaker 2: anything like that.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Not really.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Yeah. But I mean, also, you just think about like
- 15:50Speaker 2: the Netflix specials that they put on their platform and
- 15:53Speaker 2: like the types of comedians and it's a huge variety.
- 15:55Speaker 2: I mean, they put on like all types of comedians
- 15:57Speaker 2: who say crazy stuff. And so there's not much that
- 16:00Speaker 2: you could say, I think, at this point that's going
- 16:03Speaker 2: to shock anyone.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Yeah. It would be wild if you had gotten that
- 16:07Speaker 1: opportunity and you were like, you know what? I'm going
- 16:10Speaker 1: to do some like bad boy comedy stuff and just
- 16:13Speaker 1: like blow your head into the theater with like your
- 16:17Speaker 1: worst possible takes. Yeah.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I mean, you joke, but like there were people on
- 16:22Speaker 2: the showcase where like the first, the first show, the
- 16:25Speaker 2: first taping, they did stuff where they like, you know,
- 16:28Speaker 2: flipped off the Netflix logo on, sorry, I don't know
- 16:31Speaker 2: if I'm allowed to put my middle finger up right now,
- 16:33Speaker 2: but it's fine. Um, but they like flipped off the
- 16:38Speaker 2: Netflix logo and started like humping it and like doing
- 16:40Speaker 2: all this stuff like, yeah, screw Netflix. And, uh, yeah,
- 16:43Speaker 2: they were trying to do like a bad boy set.
- 16:45Speaker 2: And I'm like, I mean, who is this for? Nobody
- 16:47Speaker 2: cares that you're sticking it to Netflix right now. You're
- 16:51Speaker 2: sticking it to a company that you agreed to do
- 16:53Speaker 2: a special for.
- 16:55Speaker 1: That is wild. I mean, it always, I'm, man it's
- 16:59Speaker 1: so funny like um there's so many things in comedy
- 17:02Speaker 1: that i'm like oh sorry to sorry to bother you
- 17:05Speaker 1: this and that and then i hear about somebody like
- 17:06Speaker 1: getting an opportunity to record for netflix and they're like
- 17:11Speaker 1: what if i rubbed my junk on this like yeah
- 17:15Speaker 1: thing or you know against the curtains and flipped everyone
- 17:18Speaker 1: off yeah i think it's i could probably email this
- 17:21Speaker 1: person and ask like if they would.
- 17:23Speaker 2: You know help me with something Yeah, the bar's definitely
- 17:27Speaker 2: been lowered by that person to the degree where it's like, yeah,
- 17:31Speaker 2: as long as I don't do that, I should be
- 17:33Speaker 2: eligible for this opportunity.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that's always inspiring to hear as somebody that's like, oh, sorry,
- 17:39Speaker 1: I don't, sorry to bother you. I'm a little bit funny.
- 17:43Speaker 1: I'm sorry. And then just like, oh, this person's going
- 17:45Speaker 1: for it. I should really embrace that. Yeah.
- 17:48Speaker 2: They're like, yeah, you can do it. Just don't hump
- 17:50Speaker 2: the logo. Just don't hump the Netflix logo, please.
- 17:54Speaker 1: That was my opener. Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Well, when you tell me to do something, something, not
- 17:59Speaker 2: do something, I'm going to do it.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Um, did you get to watch some of the other
- 18:05Speaker 1: comics recording for the Netflix is a joke, like for
- 18:08Speaker 1: the specials?
- 18:09Speaker 2: Yeah. So it was like a showcase. We all recorded
- 18:12Speaker 2: in the same show the same evening. Um, So everybody
- 18:16Speaker 2: was in the green room together and it was cool
- 18:17Speaker 2: to like meet everybody and you got to see everybody
- 18:20Speaker 2: do their set and you know, you do your set
- 18:22Speaker 2: and then you go backstage and everybody claps and you
- 18:24Speaker 2: tell you, Hey, good job. So, um, all that was, yeah,
- 18:28Speaker 2: I did get to see everybody perform.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Nice. I love that. Um, Nick, was that something from you? Oh,
- 18:37Speaker 1: I thought.
- 18:38Speaker 2: I think it might've been from, uh, Carlos actually.
- 18:40Speaker 3: I think he sent, uh, And if you didn't get it,
- 18:44Speaker 3: let me know. But he sent us the video screenshot
- 18:47Speaker 3: of the questions.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Oh, through text?
- 18:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Okay. And I just sent it to you, too, directly,
- 18:54Speaker 1: just in case. Perfect. I have it on. I'm on
- 18:58Speaker 1: Do Not Disturb. Yeah. It doesn't look like I got that.
- 19:02Speaker 1: I got, I think, a video of him driving. Oh, okay.
- 19:06Speaker 1: I sent it to you also, just in case. This is...
- 19:11Speaker 1: These are the questions that I did with him. Is
- 19:15Speaker 1: this the right one? Oh, wait, week two.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Okay.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he, yeah, he scrolls through it for you.
- 19:21Speaker 1: And you sent it as a screenshot?
- 19:24Speaker 3: Oh, I sent it as a video also, just in
- 19:26Speaker 3: case you didn't get it from him.
- 19:30Speaker 1: All right.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Would you like me to take screenshots? Would that be easier?
- 19:34Speaker 1: Um, I tried to... I can do that for you.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Give me one second.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Well, just as a as a warm up, I saw
- 19:47Speaker 1: one of the previous questions. Do you know what the
- 19:49Speaker 1: largest organ is in the body milan the skin yeah
- 19:54Speaker 1: i just to give you a teaser of where we're let's.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Do that one again so that i look really smart
- 20:01Speaker 2: just as.
- 20:01Speaker 1: A warm-up i know i was i did i recorded
- 20:05Speaker 1: an episode with with carlo are you Let's see. And
- 20:13Speaker 1: I was very nervous for it. Cause he had been like, wow,
- 20:16Speaker 1: you know, Siri did this. She's a writer. She's so smart.
- 20:18Speaker 1: And I was like, let's not, let's not give me
- 20:21Speaker 1: like too high of a bar. Cause I feel like
- 20:22Speaker 1: you're going to ask me these questions. It's going to
- 20:26Speaker 1: be like, you know, how many States are there? And
- 20:29Speaker 1: we're like, just panic. I'm pretty sure I know how many,
- 20:33Speaker 1: but 49. Yeah. All right, I'm just going to get
- 20:38Speaker 1: these screenshots so they're a little easier to read. Oh, magnificent.
- 20:53Speaker 1: All right. Good. I like it's like my neighbor intuits
- 21:03Speaker 1: when it's like.
- 21:04Speaker 2: You know what?
- 21:05Speaker 1: Now's a great time for me to make a shit
- 21:07Speaker 1: ton of noise. He just is like, let me go
- 21:10Speaker 1: outside and start like banging on trash cans and stuff.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Yeah. I love that. I love, uh, we love our neighbors.
- 21:19Speaker 1: We love building community.
- 21:22Speaker 2: We all love community.
- 21:23Speaker 1: We love being part of a community.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Um, we're going to start out with,
- 21:52Speaker 1: I believe this is going to be some, a softball
- 21:56Speaker 1: question for you. I have a lot of faith in you.
- 21:58Speaker 2: So first question, I love softball questions. Those are my favorite.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Types of questions. I know you said you're a, you're
- 22:04Speaker 1: a big sports guy. What is the fourth number in pie?
- 22:16Speaker 2: It can't be five. Is it five?
- 22:20Speaker 1: Unfortunately, it is not five. Okay. Yeah.
- 22:23Speaker 2: It wouldn't be like four or five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10.
- 22:26Speaker 1: That would be, I mean, that would be cool if
- 22:27Speaker 1: it was, we're actually approaching pie day. Have you ever
- 22:30Speaker 1: celebrated pie day three 14?
- 22:33Speaker 2: I think like in school when I had like a
- 22:36Speaker 2: very nerdy math teacher, they're like, it's pie day. We're
- 22:39Speaker 2: all going to eat pie.
- 22:41Speaker 1: We had a friend that would always celebrate. He'd throw
- 22:43Speaker 1: a big party for pie day. Cause obviously a huge
- 22:46Speaker 1: nerd and everybody would bring different pies and pizza and celebrate.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Pi Day? Unfortunately, the answer is one. I think it's
- 22:54Speaker 1: like 3.1417. I don't.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Know.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I feel like I used to know how many. Nick,
- 23:00Speaker 1: do you know? How many digits of pi? Also, this
- 23:04Speaker 1: was the softball question.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Um like how much harder is he's gonna.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Get a lot worse milan i don't know what you
- 23:20Speaker 1: were studying in up in seattle.
- 23:24Speaker 2: It was yes i wasn't memorizing.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Pi what what did you study in school.
- 23:29Speaker 2: I studied business and english uh specifically marketing and creative
- 23:34Speaker 2: writing so.
- 23:36Speaker 1: It's actually perfect for comedy.
- 23:38Speaker 2: The trajectory was to go into advertising, but I started
- 23:41Speaker 2: touring ad agencies and I hated everybody who worked in
- 23:45Speaker 2: advertising because they thought they were really funny and it
- 23:48Speaker 2: bothered me.
- 23:49Speaker 1: I get that. I do some copywriting and stuff for
- 23:52Speaker 1: ad agencies and I understand what you are.
- 23:54Speaker 2: There's a personality type.
- 23:57Speaker 1: There is, there is like the branding people. And I'm like, oh,
- 24:01Speaker 1: I'm very different from you. I'm like more shy and,
- 24:04Speaker 1: and weird. And they're like really excited and have lots
- 24:08Speaker 1: of ideas.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Lots of ideas.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay. Maybe I oversold this one. I'm hoping that
- 24:14Speaker 1: this is going, this next one is going to be
- 24:17Speaker 1: a little bit more in the softball. How many ounces
- 24:23Speaker 1: are in a pound of 16 ounces. Yes. Crushed it.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Crushed it.
- 24:32Speaker 2: And that's just for anybody that is not a softball question. Only,
- 24:35Speaker 2: only geniuses would know that.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:37Speaker 2: The answer to that.
- 24:39Speaker 1: That's a business. And what was it? Creative writing, marketing, English.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Only a creative writing major would know how many ounces
- 24:51Speaker 2: are in a pound.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I feel this way when I have
- 24:56Speaker 1: to do math at my barista job. I'm like, oh,
- 24:58Speaker 1: good thing I paid attention when I was getting a
- 25:02Speaker 1: gender studies and American studies degree.
- 25:08Speaker 2: I'm sure that is actually pretty relevant in the barista game.
- 25:12Speaker 2: There's probably gender politics that come into play.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true. Thank you. Thank you. I'll let my
- 25:19Speaker 1: parents know that I haven't totally just wasted time. All
- 25:23Speaker 1: of my money. Okay, this is a good one. I'm
- 25:27Speaker 1: interested to hear if you can name three of these.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Can you name three artists that have performed at the
- 25:34Speaker 1: Super Bowl?
- 25:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I can do that.
- 25:39Speaker 1: How many can you name? Let's see.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Okay. I mean, Creed obviously played... I say obviously, but
- 25:48Speaker 2: there's a famous video of the guy from Creed on
- 25:51Speaker 2: wires flying through... uh the stadium so.
- 25:55Speaker 1: I'm already blown away because i didn't know.
- 25:57Speaker 2: This uh it's a good video look it up it's
- 25:59Speaker 2: pretty awesome okay uh i mean bad bunny kendrick lamar
- 26:04Speaker 2: um let's see i know the the red hot chili
- 26:08Speaker 2: peppers must have played the super bowl at a certain
- 26:11Speaker 2: point probably they feel like a.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Band yeah probably not with socks on their on their
- 26:17Speaker 1: wieners though.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Probably yeah Oh, well, that reminds me, Justin Timberlake and
- 26:25Speaker 2: Janet Jackson, obviously. Man, I think that's it. That's all
- 26:30Speaker 2: I can name off the top of my head.
- 26:31Speaker 1: That's pretty good. I noticed you left out Kid Rock.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Kid Rock did play. Yeah, did he play at the
- 26:42Speaker 2: Super Bowl? He played for the Super Bowl at a
- 26:44Speaker 2: different location. He's the first Super Bowl halftime act to
- 26:47Speaker 2: not be allowed into the stadium. Yeah.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Because, yeah, he played in like a parking lot, probably
- 26:53Speaker 1: a Vaughn or something.
- 26:56Speaker 2: That whole thing is a little bit kind of like,
- 26:58Speaker 2: we're not going to prom. We're going to have our
- 27:00Speaker 2: own prom. Like, it's kind of like, yeah, we're actually
- 27:05Speaker 2: we're doing our own thing because we don't we don't
- 27:07Speaker 2: actually like vibe with the mainstream.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's the prom if you've already like graduated
- 27:12Speaker 1: high school several years ago, but you're still trying to date.
- 27:15Speaker 1: like a high school girl maybe yeah all the clips
- 27:19Speaker 1: I saw were so very sad and weird.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I gotta watch it honestly it's that's something I gotta
- 27:27Speaker 2: I gotta find online and watch.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Through I mean I'm gonna find I'm gonna find the
- 27:32Speaker 1: Creed one that you mentioned but the clips that I
- 27:35Speaker 1: saw of Kid Rock and I don't know and the
- 27:38Speaker 1: the other names of the the quote unquote artists that
- 27:43Speaker 1: performed there at the TPU halfway halftime show. I just
- 27:47Speaker 1: can't imagine missing bad bunnies halftime show to witness that. Yeah.
- 27:52Speaker 2: There were definitely some younger people there that were like, man,
- 27:55Speaker 2: I wish my mom didn't make me come to this.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Like it, it, it kind of, it kind of looked
- 27:59Speaker 2: like church almost like, like, Oh man, I wish we
- 28:03Speaker 2: weren't here right now. Um, I did see some pretty
- 28:06Speaker 2: bad dancing. That's all I remember. That's all I saw
- 28:09Speaker 2: from the Kid Rock halftime show. It was some like.
- 28:11Speaker 1: I imagine so.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Just offbeat dancing on the.
- 28:16Speaker 2: It was JD. It was JD Vance and Usha Vance. Uh,
- 28:19Speaker 2: he had his arms around her and they both looked
- 28:22Speaker 2: incredibly uncomfortable and they were trying to rock, rock out
- 28:25Speaker 2: to Kid Rock. Anyways.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Terrible. Who knew that Kid Rock would still be around and, uh,
- 28:33Speaker 1: the year 2026, the year of our Lord. I know. Oh,
- 28:38Speaker 1: that's pretty good. I think you named, I don't know,
- 28:40Speaker 1: four or five. I feel like that should be a
- 28:42Speaker 1: bonus point. I don't, I don't handle the scoring. I
- 28:44Speaker 1: don't know who does, but I feel like you named
- 28:47Speaker 1: a couple of good ones. You did mention Beyonce though. That,
- 28:51Speaker 1: that's a really good Superbowl halftime show.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Oh yeah. Yeah. Maybe I get one subtracted for missing her.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like a beehive is going to come
- 29:00Speaker 1: for you. Maybe they'll show up on Sunday to your
- 29:03Speaker 1: show just to set you straight.
- 29:06Speaker 2: I mean, I don't care. If they buy tickets, I'm
- 29:08Speaker 2: totally fine with that. They can heckle me for an hour.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Yeah, beehive, listen up. He actually, specifically before we recorded,
- 29:15Speaker 1: he was like, I hate Beyonce.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and I also hate Taylor Swift. So if there's
- 29:21Speaker 2: any Swifties that want to come out, yeah, and tell
- 29:25Speaker 2: me what's what.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Yeah, after you buy a ticket and some merch.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Oh, I would hate that. Oh, I would hate that
- 29:35Speaker 2: so much.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I would make him furious and you could venmo him
- 29:39Speaker 1: a tip what terrible.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Yeah that would really stick it to me.
- 29:43Speaker 1: All right we're gonna keep it moving question number four
- 29:46Speaker 1: who is on the two dollar.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Bill that's a tough one uh okay andrew jackson or
- 29:56Speaker 2: is that.
- 29:57Speaker 1: That's a really good guess. The answer is Thomas Jefferson.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Ah, I have a good story about a $ 2 bill.
- 30:04Speaker 2: I was working front desk at a motel. And I
- 30:08Speaker 2: would I was not happy to be working that job.
- 30:11Speaker 2: And a guy I just the customers were terrible. And
- 30:16Speaker 2: one time that guy came in, he was like, Hey,
- 30:17Speaker 2: I need to use the phone. Can you get can
- 30:19Speaker 2: you give me change for a $ 2 bill? And I
- 30:21Speaker 2: was like, I'm not taking that, sorry. We don't take
- 30:24Speaker 2: $ 2 bills. And he was like, you have to take this.
- 30:26Speaker 2: This is legal tender. And I was like, listen, I
- 30:29Speaker 2: don't take $ 2 bills. That's just a rule that I have.
- 30:32Speaker 2: I don't even know where I would put it in
- 30:34Speaker 2: the register, honestly. We don't have the slot for that.
- 30:37Speaker 2: And he was furious. And I'm glad I stood my ground.
- 30:43Speaker 2: I don't take $ 2 bills.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Wow. Okay. So for anybody coming to the show on Sunday...
- 30:50Speaker 1: You can pay him, but not in $ 2 bills.
- 30:54Speaker 2: I won't accept it.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Do vending machines, can you use a $ 2 bill in
- 30:58Speaker 1: a vending machine? Do we know?
- 30:59Speaker 2: I want to say no, because vending machines are pretty
- 31:02Speaker 2: explicit about being like, we take ones, fives, and tens,
- 31:06Speaker 2: and that's it.
- 31:06Speaker 1: I think if you put a $ 2 bill in a vending.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Machine, it would literally explode. All right.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Well, now I'm tempted. I have a bunch saved because
- 31:17Speaker 1: there was a barista job that I worked. Like I said,
- 31:20Speaker 1: I got a really valuable degree. So I worked a
- 31:22Speaker 1: lot of barista jobs. And this guy would always tip
- 31:25Speaker 1: us in $ 2 bills. He's like, you gotta save that, sweetheart.
- 31:28Speaker 1: It's gonna be worth a lot someday. And I'm like, okay,
- 31:30Speaker 1: but I have to pay rent now.
- 31:36Speaker 2: He's paying you in $ 2 bills, $ 1 Sacagawea coins, and
- 31:40Speaker 2: then 50 cent coins. That's the only tender he has.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm like, do you have any Bitcoin? It's probably
- 31:47Speaker 1: a lot better.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Yeah, he doesn't know what it's worth. He's like, all right,
- 31:50Speaker 2: one Bitcoin.
- 31:51Speaker 1: That'd be great. All right, so our man Thomas Jefferson
- 31:58Speaker 1: is the answer. Friend of the pod, probably.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Friend of the pod, yeah.
- 32:03Speaker 1: American hero.
- 32:04Speaker 2: We all love Jefferson.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Yep. All right. This is a, this is a good one.
- 32:09Speaker 1: This is a question near and dear to my heart.
- 32:11Speaker 1: What instrument does animal play in the Muppets?
- 32:17Speaker 2: Animal plays the drums.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Yes.
- 32:24Speaker 2: I almost said guitar. That would have looked like a
- 32:26Speaker 2: huge idiot.
- 32:27Speaker 1: For a second I pictured him like jamming out too,
- 32:29Speaker 1: but it is, it is the drums. Do you have
- 32:31Speaker 1: a favorite Muppet?
- 32:35Speaker 2: Um, I don't have a favorite. I do love the
- 32:37Speaker 2: Muppets or like, I was much more acquainted with all
- 32:40Speaker 2: the different Muppets when I was younger. And I don't,
- 32:43Speaker 2: I can't recall all the weird ones. I mean, I love,
- 32:45Speaker 2: I love Kermit. Obviously we all love Kermit.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Uh, sorry.
- 32:50Speaker 2: I sound like Trump. We all love Kermit. Uh, we
- 32:52Speaker 2: all love him and Piggy. He likes calling people Piggy.
- 32:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:59Speaker 2: We hate Piggy, but we love Kermit. I don't know
- 33:01Speaker 2: why he's with her. Um, He could do much better.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Who else do I like? Oh, I like the Swedish chef.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Is he? That's a Muppet, right? Yeah. I confuse Muppets
- 33:14Speaker 2: with Sesame Street sometimes, so I don't remember which ones
- 33:16Speaker 2: are which.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, that's a good point. I think. Sorry, might
- 33:25Speaker 1: have froze.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Yes, I think she did. It's a good freeze frame, though.
- 33:33Speaker 2: She's smiling. Yeah, it's beautiful.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Can you guys... I'm back!
- 33:38Speaker 2: Okay.
- 33:41Speaker 1: I just took a moment to zone out thinking about
- 33:44Speaker 1: the Muppet.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Sorry, you might have cut out for a lot of it.
- 33:48Speaker 2: I did a really good Trump impression. I'll go ahead
- 33:50Speaker 2: and do that for you again.
- 33:51Speaker 1: I actually really liked it. I was going to ask
- 33:54Speaker 1: if you do that in your act.
- 33:57Speaker 2: No, I don't. I feel like you could. Maybe I will.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Maybe bust it out for Chandler. It's always... an interesting
- 34:05Speaker 1: vibe in in arizona you never.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Know yeah yeah maybe they like it.
- 34:11Speaker 1: All right this is this is a good one um
- 34:14Speaker 1: sixth question where is the mona lisa located.
- 34:18Speaker 2: This is a trick question because i i know it's
- 34:23Speaker 2: it's in the louvre but i don't know if it's
- 34:27Speaker 2: been transported since then so i'm gonna say the i'm
- 34:31Speaker 2: gonna say the.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Louvre yeah that is correct ding ding ding.
- 34:35Speaker 2: There was a robbery at the Louvre last year. It
- 34:38Speaker 2: was crazy. Did you hear about that?
- 34:40Speaker 1: Yes, that was really wild.
- 34:43Speaker 2: On the way out, one of the guys dropped a crown.
- 34:46Speaker 1: What?
- 34:48Speaker 2: They stole a crown, but the guy dropped it on
- 34:50Speaker 2: the way out.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Not a true king.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Not a true king, but I think they're still at large,
- 34:57Speaker 2: so if you see anybody wearing a crown in France,
- 35:02Speaker 2: that might be the guy.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Yeah. I thought they might have caught the people that
- 35:07Speaker 1: did this.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're right, actually.
- 35:11Speaker 1: That was such a crazy story.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Yeah, they, like, pretended to be construction guys, I think,
- 35:19Speaker 2: and so they rented construction equipment and then, like, got
- 35:22Speaker 2: a ladder into the second floor of the Louvre. It's
- 35:25Speaker 2: pretty cool. I'm glad people are still doing art heists,
- 35:28Speaker 2: I think.
- 35:29Speaker 1: I love it. I thought it was very exciting. A
- 35:32Speaker 1: nice break from all of the horrible news. I mean,
- 35:36Speaker 1: don't steal art, but exciting. It's nice to have some
- 35:40Speaker 1: more fun and lighthearted news every once in a while.
- 35:43Speaker 2: I mean, honestly, yeah, do steal art. I want people
- 35:47Speaker 2: to be focused more on that than what's going on.
- 35:50Speaker 1: That would be actually a nice break.
- 35:52Speaker 2: No, you're right. Bank robberies, art heists, I'm okay with
- 35:57Speaker 2: it as long as nobody gets hurt. Yeah.
- 36:00Speaker 1: No, that's the kind of resistance we like to see.
- 36:03Speaker 1: I also like that. Cause I've seen there's somebody I
- 36:07Speaker 1: followed on Instagram. They're like, if you're wearing a yellow,
- 36:10Speaker 1: like a reflective vest, you can pretty much get away
- 36:13Speaker 1: with anything. And they were setting up benches and public spaces,
- 36:16Speaker 1: which is like, obviously, you know, a huge crime, but
- 36:21Speaker 1: they're just like, yeah, if you're wearing a vest, you
- 36:22Speaker 1: can do anything. My husband was like, baby, we need
- 36:26Speaker 1: to get some yellow reflective vest and we can just
- 36:28Speaker 1: go around the neighborhood. Like, setting up all kinds of
- 36:31Speaker 1: like benches and chairs they're like god forbid a homeless
- 36:34Speaker 1: person should sit down here that.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Is that is a funny example that you can do
- 36:39Speaker 2: whatever you want you could even do construction it's like
- 36:43Speaker 2: okay if.
- 36:44Speaker 3: You have clipboards you can use those as well you
- 36:46Speaker 3: look very important yeah that's true.
- 36:49Speaker 2: Yeah you could be a doctor you could you could
- 36:51Speaker 2: get away with a lot yeah.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Wow You guys are giving me some really great ideas.
- 36:58Speaker 1: I do love sneaking into places. Mine is carrying a box.
- 37:01Speaker 1: If you're carrying a box, usually people are just like, yeah,
- 37:04Speaker 1: go ahead. You're bringing that backstage. Go ahead.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. You can get into places carrying a
- 37:10Speaker 2: box for sure.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Yeah, just like I was told to bring these to
- 37:13Speaker 1: the south entrance. And they're like, oh, yeah. Or do
- 37:15Speaker 1: you guys need more? Yeah, it works.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Yeah, you idiot. This is the west entrance. Yeah, go ahead.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Yeah, that's when you bust out your improv skills and
- 37:26Speaker 1: you just go along with it. All right, I have
- 37:30Speaker 1: another question. I believe a softball question for you. Who
- 37:34Speaker 1: invented the telephone?
- 37:37Speaker 2: Alexander Graham Bell. Easy.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Yeah, see? I do think maybe the first one, the
- 37:43Speaker 1: pie question, I feel like that may be a little tricky. Yes,
- 37:49Speaker 1: in hindsight, no. Her folks who didn't have their high
- 37:53Speaker 1: school career memorizing pie.
- 37:56Speaker 2: I would answer a question about the food pie. I
- 38:00Speaker 2: think I would be good at something like that. But
- 38:03Speaker 2: the mathematical pie, not so much.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Do you have a favorite pie?
- 38:08Speaker 2: I do. Well, I have a few. Weirdly, I just
- 38:13Speaker 2: love pumpkin pie. I know it's not the best pie,
- 38:16Speaker 2: but it's what I grew up eating at Thanksgiving. It's
- 38:18Speaker 2: the first pie I ever had. So... I know people
- 38:22Speaker 2: think pumpkin pie is not good, but I have a
- 38:26Speaker 2: soft spot for it.
- 38:26Speaker 1: All right. So that's another hot tip for people coming
- 38:31Speaker 1: to the show. They can bring you some pumpkin pie
- 38:34Speaker 1: if they.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Really, any baked good would be welcome. And I'll eat anything.
- 38:40Speaker 2: So if you're trying to poison me, if you're like
- 38:42Speaker 2: a weird stalker, just so you know, it'll work. I'll
- 38:44Speaker 2: eat whatever you bring it.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a great policy to have. this is a
- 38:51Speaker 1: good comedy related question number 8 what was the name
- 38:54Speaker 1: of David Chappelle this says David Chappelle Dave Chappelle I
- 38:59Speaker 1: guess formal I know they know him personally what was
- 39:03Speaker 1: the name of Dave Chappelle's first comedy special.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Oh man I think I think Killing Them Softly was
- 39:13Speaker 2: his second special so you know what I don't know
- 39:20Speaker 2: I don't remember what the first one was.
- 39:23Speaker 1: That might be because his first special was killing them softly. Ah.
- 39:30Speaker 1: damn it i feel like points for that because you
- 39:33Speaker 1: knew the name you just.
- 39:34Speaker 2: Uh you doubted yeah i know i shouldn't have doubted myself.
- 39:39Speaker 1: I actually I remember that because I remember speaking of
- 39:44Speaker 1: stealing art to our previous question. I remember illegally downloading
- 39:47Speaker 1: that from like Kazaa or whatever the like third or
- 39:52Speaker 1: fourth generation. LimeWire. Yeah. I was like, it's not Napster,
- 39:55Speaker 1: but one of those like. Yeah. Just ripping that and
- 39:59Speaker 1: watching that on the family computer. And then my mom
- 40:01Speaker 1: being like, how come the computer's running so slow? And
- 40:04Speaker 1: I'm like, mom, this is so funny.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Yeah. Check this out. It's really blurry too. She's like,
- 40:09Speaker 2: what is that? I can't even see what that is.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Yeah, just somebody like bootlegging filming it from the front.
- 40:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:15Speaker 1: All right. Number nine. What is the capital of Louisiana?
- 40:23Speaker 2: Capital of Louisiana. Gosh. I don't know. Is it New Orleans?
- 40:32Speaker 1: No, it should be though. The answer is Baton Rouge.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Baton Rouge.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Ban rouge yeah i know it's french sounding yeah that
- 40:44Speaker 2: was a pretty that was always like a a weakness
- 40:47Speaker 2: of mine in school i was terrible at like memorizing
- 40:50Speaker 2: the state.
- 40:51Speaker 1: Capitals yeah that was a tough one i.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Should have told you guys that before i agreed to
- 40:56Speaker 2: do this.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Podcast i mean i still think you're you're crushing it
- 41:00Speaker 1: um have you ever been to louisiana any part like
- 41:04Speaker 1: for comedy or anything.
- 41:06Speaker 2: No, but I'd love to go. I'd love to go
- 41:08Speaker 2: just to visit, even not to do comedy, because no,
- 41:13Speaker 2: I've never been.
- 41:16Speaker 1: I was going to say, fantastic city. Speaking of New Orleans,
- 41:18Speaker 1: wonderful city, but I know they just are probably recovering
- 41:22Speaker 1: from Mardi Gras this week. I wonder if that's why
- 41:25Speaker 1: they picked Louisiana for this one. I'm sure New Orleans
- 41:30Speaker 1: is recovering right now from lots of partying.
- 41:33Speaker 2: I want to do the The traditional Mardi Gras. There's
- 41:36Speaker 2: like an Anthony Bourdain No Reservations episode where he does
- 41:39Speaker 2: like the real Mardi Gras, where it's like just like
- 41:43Speaker 2: actual rednecks in New Orleans doing the traditional version of it.
- 41:46Speaker 2: And it's it looks really, really cool.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:49Speaker 2: People dress up.
- 41:50Speaker 1: I'll have to find that, too. That sounds really fun.
- 41:53Speaker 1: I haven't been there for Mardi Gras, but I've been
- 41:56Speaker 1: to New Orleans and it's fantastic city. Really amazing.
- 42:02Speaker 2: I heard there's a lot of parades. Parades and ghosts.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Yeah. And probably you could find some pie there. I
- 42:08Speaker 1: know they have some good baked goods.
- 42:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:11Speaker 1: A beignet.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Yes.
- 42:13Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of, I think it's just king
- 42:16Speaker 1: cake is like the food for Mardi Gras. That's good.
- 42:23Speaker 2: What is king cake?
- 42:24Speaker 1: Just some delicious pastry. And it has like a baby
- 42:29Speaker 1: hidden in it. They bake a little baby in it.
- 42:32Speaker 1: And I think if you find the little plastic baby,
- 42:35Speaker 1: it's like good luck or something. Maybe somebody can fact
- 42:38Speaker 1: check that for me if they are listening to this
- 42:41Speaker 1: and maybe yelling at their screen. Like this woman is
- 42:45Speaker 1: just making up facts about New Orleans.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Well, now I'm going to go to New Orleans and
- 42:50Speaker 2: every food I eat, hey, there's not a baby in this,
- 42:53Speaker 2: is there? Because I'll eat it.
- 42:56Speaker 1: My favorite is when food has babies in it.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Do you where's the yeah where's the dessert with the
- 43:04Speaker 2: baby in it.
- 43:06Speaker 1: Just out of context really horrible um all right 10th
- 43:11Speaker 1: and final question what model number of iphone did apple
- 43:15Speaker 1: skip i know this one i have to know this
- 43:21Speaker 1: one nine yeah yeah brilliant nice.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Cause they went for it. Cause I remember the eight
- 43:33Speaker 2: and then they went, they wanted it for some reason
- 43:35Speaker 2: they wanted to script. Everyone always wants to skip to
- 43:37Speaker 2: the X, you know, to the 10 or whatever. I
- 43:39Speaker 2: feel like it's been done before too.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Not a lot of love for the number nine.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Why is that? I don't know. Shoot. Now I'm going
- 43:50Speaker 1: to want to Google that. I know.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Yeah do we have a fact checker? Does anyone know
- 43:55Speaker 2: if any of what I'm saying is correct?
- 43:58Speaker 1: It does say that though that it went from 8
- 43:59Speaker 1: to iPhone X to celebrate the original 10th year but
- 44:03Speaker 1: no explanation why. I also feel like I had like
- 44:08Speaker 1: an iPhone 6 for many many years until like it
- 44:13Speaker 1: was good but it got to a point where I
- 44:15Speaker 1: was like oh I can't use this anymore it was
- 44:17Speaker 1: like you can't load anything on it. Like I couldn't
- 44:20Speaker 1: update stuff on it. And then I like very begrudgingly
- 44:24Speaker 1: upgraded to a phone and I'm hoping to have that
- 44:26Speaker 1: for another, you know, 12 years or so.
- 44:29Speaker 2: Me too. I, I, as much as I think technology
- 44:32Speaker 2: is cool and stuff, like I am the type of
- 44:34Speaker 2: person where it's like whatever car I have or phone
- 44:36Speaker 2: I have, I just want it to run for 20 years.
- 44:39Speaker 2: I don't want to have to like buy a new
- 44:41Speaker 2: one or like get the new features or anything like that.
- 44:43Speaker 2: So I'm, I'm hoping my phone lasts me until, Hopefully
- 44:46Speaker 2: the world ends or something like that.
- 44:48Speaker 1: Yeah, from your mouth to God's ears. May our phones
- 44:51Speaker 1: all last through the apocalypse and cell phone towers work.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Yeah, hopefully.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Well, I think you did pretty well. You got six
- 45:04Speaker 1: out of four. That's pretty good.
- 45:06Speaker 2: You don't sound excited. I mean, I think I'm more
- 45:10Speaker 2: excited than you.
- 45:11Speaker 1: No, you should be excited. You got to brush up
- 45:13Speaker 1: on your pie a little bit. I know. maybe before
- 45:16Speaker 1: the show on sunday you could memorize a few more.
- 45:18Speaker 2: Digits that's gonna be for like no pressure yeah listen
- 45:24Speaker 2: to this podcast and come to the show they're like
- 45:26Speaker 2: do the pie you said you.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Would yeah do it in your kermit voice too we
- 45:31Speaker 1: liked that or it was trump sorry it was trump
- 45:35Speaker 1: talking about kermit but it's still delightful um well i
- 45:39Speaker 1: think you crushed it i hope you feel successful in
- 45:42Speaker 1: there um you were able to name creed as a
- 45:45Speaker 1: super bowl act which is news to me i didn't
- 45:48Speaker 1: know that we ever suffered through that as a country hey.
- 45:53Speaker 2: Do you ever think you're gonna get some cool information
- 45:55Speaker 2: like that on this podcast.
- 45:57Speaker 1: I mean i had a feeling that's why it's we
- 45:59Speaker 1: have the good to know get to know and now
- 46:01Speaker 1: it's gotta go you just perfectly segwayed us into that
- 46:05Speaker 1: so you have I love the name of your show
- 46:09Speaker 1: is Milan and Enemies, but you told me, what is
- 46:13Speaker 1: the new working title of the show?
- 46:14Speaker 2: For the following shows, regardless of where I do them,
- 46:19Speaker 2: in any city, it will be Milan Patel and the
- 46:21Speaker 2: Enemies of My Enemies, because the enemy of my enemy
- 46:25Speaker 2: is my friend.
- 46:26Speaker 1: I love it. I love it. So we got a
- 46:30Speaker 1: show this Sunday on... February 22nd. If people haven't seen
- 46:37Speaker 1: you before, what can you tell them about your standup
- 46:41Speaker 1: or the show?
- 46:44Speaker 2: It's just fun. It'll be really silly. It'll be really stupid.
- 46:48Speaker 2: I won't make fun of anybody or be mean to anybody.
- 46:54Speaker 2: You can feel comfortable sitting in the front row. I'll
- 46:56Speaker 2: be nice to everybody and I'll make everybody laugh and
- 47:00Speaker 2: it'll be a good vibe. My shows are a good vibe. Yeah.
- 47:02Speaker 2: That's what I can tell you.
- 47:04Speaker 1: I can definitely see that. I love watching your clips.
- 47:07Speaker 1: It seems like it is good vibes. I feel like
- 47:09Speaker 1: that's a really good guarantee. Come to the show, it's
- 47:13Speaker 1: going to be silly and fun. You're not going to
- 47:16Speaker 1: feel like crap. You're not going to get picked on. Sadly,
- 47:22Speaker 1: that seems like a big ask for comedy now.
- 47:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. I'm just like, hey, I'm not funny,
- 47:28Speaker 2: but you won't get your feelings hurt, I promise.
- 47:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:33Speaker 2: No, it'll be a great show. It's going to be awesome.
- 47:34Speaker 2: I have a AV Raina is a local comic in
- 47:39Speaker 2: Phoenix and she's going to be opening for me and there,
- 47:41Speaker 2: I might have a special guest as well.
- 47:43Speaker 1: Awesome. AV is great. AV hosts our roast battle league
- 47:47Speaker 1: and she's nice. Yeah. She's very good. Awesome. Is there
- 47:52Speaker 1: anything else you want to mention before we wrap up?
- 47:55Speaker 2: Yeah. I, if you want to, if you know anybody
- 47:59Speaker 2: in other cities, like whether you live in, Phoenix or
- 48:02Speaker 2: you have, you know, friends that live in other cities.
- 48:05Speaker 2: I'm doing lots of shows this year. You can go
- 48:07Speaker 2: to my website, milanpatelcomedy.com. And you can just see all
- 48:12Speaker 2: my tour dates. I'm going to be doing another mic
- 48:15Speaker 2: drop in San Diego on March 5th. So if you're
- 48:22Speaker 2: in San Diego or you know anybody in San Diego,
- 48:24Speaker 2: tell them to go to my mic drop show over there.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Love it. And if people are not already following you
- 48:31Speaker 1: on social media, what's the best one to follow you?
- 48:35Speaker 1: Do you use TikTok or what's the vibe?
- 48:38Speaker 2: Yeah, do Instagram, at Milan Patel. Okay, it's right there.
- 48:43Speaker 1: Perfect. It's beautiful. Nick is crushing it. It's great. It
- 48:49Speaker 1: was so fun talking with you. We're so excited to
- 48:52Speaker 1: have you coming to Chandler. Thank you so much for
- 48:54Speaker 1: making time, especially on your moving day.
- 48:57Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 48:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:57Speaker 2: Thank you. This is awesome. I hope some people watch
- 49:00Speaker 2: it and come to the show.
- 49:01Speaker 1: Yes, that would be so great. Well, thank you so much.
- 49:09Speaker 2: Oh, I think Siri cut out.
- 49:11Speaker 1: Siri cut out for a second. We'll let her come
- 49:14Speaker 1: back and.
- 49:14Speaker 2: uh it will do a clean a clean cut.
- 49:24Speaker 3: This is the fun part this is a waiting game
- 49:26Speaker 3: oh there we go okay what happened it just cut
- 49:30Speaker 3: out for a second so if you want to bring
- 49:31Speaker 3: us back out um you were starting to say thank
- 49:34Speaker 3: you for having us and that whole thing.
- 49:39Speaker 1: And action. It's been great talking with you. I'm so excited.
- 49:43Speaker 1: And make sure you check out Milan Patel and Enemies
- 49:48Speaker 1: of Enemies. I hope I got that right. It's going
- 49:50Speaker 1: to be this Sunday, February 22nd at Mic Drop in Chandler.

- 49:56Speaker 1: guys next week.
