- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello and welcome back to the Spiritual Shit Show.
- 0:05Speaker 1: My name is Julie Nguyen and I have been embarking on this path towards joy and exploring the concepts of joy and what that means for me In October of 2023 through February 2024, which is wild, but that was five months and also makes sense why it's taking a long time to regulate back and start again.
- 0:36Speaker 1: But it was a period of loss and sadness and shifts within the family unit and it was just a lot of stuff and it really was this idea of wearing my life like a cozy sweater that got me through.
- 1:01Speaker 1: It was the comfort of a sweater or a hug.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Anything that was going to bring me comfort is what kept me grounded, and now that seed is blooming into joy.
- 1:19Speaker 1: My headspace during those five months was presence, with what is presence, with the uncomfortable presence, with death, loss, healing, and that is part of the human experience.
- 1:36Speaker 1: So I embraced it even though it was uncomfortable.
- 1:42Speaker 1: But because I was seeking comfort during those five months and actually I was a caretaker for my dad for almost two years and that period that I was going through, the gifts that being with my father at end of life gave me, was so necessary and took center stage of my life, and so now that that period is over again, it's like all blooming into joy and an opportunity to, I guess, to reorient back to myself and to integrate to these lessons, to allow the experiences to really move me in the direction forward.
- 2:29Speaker 1: That is so different than my past.
- 2:31Speaker 1: It's teaching me how to let go, how to forgive, how to accept things as is, and I'm being reminded that the path forward is through joy.
- 2:43Speaker 1: My father passed away in early January and then it was funeral, and then I traveled overseas for work and then I came back and then we had guests in town.
- 2:53Speaker 1: So it took me and plus just the experience of you know of it all was there's just so many jarring moments where I could feel that like quake within my body, like whoa, you know, like wow, my dad looks like that, or wow, he's in a casket, or wow, he's like, like you know, we just put him in the earth, like all those really kind of like trembling, jarring moments.
- 3:16Speaker 1: It's taken a minute for me to like breathe and to integrate back, and I allowed myself time and slow steps of what do I really?
- 3:33Speaker 1: What's going to be cozy today for me?
- 3:35Speaker 1: How can I wear life like a cozy sweater.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Today and again, joy.
- 3:42Speaker 1: It was these sparks of joy.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Like I forgot that I really love an art museum.
- 3:48Speaker 1: It just, it just.
- 3:51Speaker 1: It's like a breath of creativity and spirit and it just lightens my life force.
- 3:59Speaker 1: I love going to a good vegan restaurant and eating fun vegan food.
- 4:06Speaker 1: It just makes me feel a certain way.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I love it.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I love going to the mountains, I love sitting with the sun on my face.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I love holding my daughter.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I love holding my husband.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I love things that are active.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I love playing pickleball with my family, I love painting.
- 4:26Speaker 1: So joy, and that respect is different than gratitude, because my gratitude list could sound like I am grateful for my house.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I am grateful for my husband, I am grateful for this opportunity to speak on a microphone.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I am grateful for growth.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I am grateful, but the gratitude?
- 4:41Speaker 1: Isn't this a reminder of the things that light me up?
- 4:48Speaker 1: I want to continue to awaken the essence of who I am, to feed my soul energy, and that's where joy comes in.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Joy is paying attention to the things where you can just feel the shift within your physical body.
- 5:05Speaker 1: That's what joy does.
- 5:06Speaker 1: It's really for the semantics, it's for the physical body, turning on your favorite song and just allowing your body to flail and dance and then noticing how your heart feels after that.
- 5:20Speaker 1: That's joy.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Or being around people who you just love so deeply and you feel different, you feel uplifted when you leave them.
- 5:31Speaker 1: That's joy.
- 5:32Speaker 1: So we want to take a deep dive in our life around the idea of joy and I've been thinking so.
- 5:40Speaker 1: We've touched upon the difference between gratitude and joy and then I question well, what's the difference between joy and happiness?
- 5:48Speaker 1: But happiness is fleeting.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Happiness is that laughter.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Happiness is, you know, you can be crying and then happy.
- 5:59Speaker 1: You know, have you ever been in a really sad moment?
- 6:02Speaker 1: And then somebody makes a joke and you laugh and then you return back to the sadness.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Like happiness feels like a tool that kind of keeps you anchored into the present moment.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Happiness keeps you from dropping too far deep into feelings of anger and sadness and depression and that kind of stuff.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Happiness kind of is like the float that keeps you up, you know, while you're still feeling these other things.
- 6:33Speaker 1: And joy is again.
- 6:36Speaker 1: It shifts.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Joy is a shifting energy.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Joy is like it makes your body want to move, it makes you want to take action, it makes you want to give yourself a big hug.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Like joy is is the remembrance of the essence of who you are.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Joy is the motivating force that allows your body to expand into happiness.
- 7:03Speaker 1: So joy, joy, joy.
- 7:07Speaker 1: I am embarking on joy.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I invite you to do this with me.
- 7:12Speaker 1: So start with creating a joy list.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I feel like that is a beautiful step one.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Feel free to connect with me.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I love hearing how these ideas can positively shift your mindset, your heart, your energy levels, your view on life.
- 7:30Speaker 1: So feel free to drop me a note and or share your story.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I look forward to hearing from you, and may we continue to live our daily lives in joy.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Just to make sure you hear it today, you are loved, so deeply loved, incredibly, uniquely lovable, and I love you.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Have a great day.
