- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friend, welcome back to Bible Tract Echoes.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Mike McCurry, your host.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for joining me once again today.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_01]: Now this introduction to this particular episode and this week of episodes is going to be a little bit quick, because what you will hear next is actually a section out of a full length podcast interview.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: I did with a dear friend of mine, Scott, Nederville.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: Now Brother Nederville, just passed away not too long ago.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like you to listen to what this dear man has to say, as I introduce you to a friend.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friends, I'm Mike and McCurray.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for tuning in to the Mike and McCurray podcast.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: Today, I have with me a friend of mine, but a Scott Netterville.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm so thankful for the time he's taken to talk with me today.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the Netterville, how are you doing today?
- 0:51[SPEAKER_02]: Doing great.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for having me today.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: Where are you coming from right now?
- 0:58[SPEAKER_02]: I am in 10-a-half Texas, which is deep east Texas.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, so I've been down that direction, and you're nearby some other friends of ours, some mutual friends of ours, and we appreciate them.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: Now you got out of town, we were just talking before we went on air.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: you are traveling and evangelism and all of that.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: You are smart enough.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: You want to know smart evangelists, unlike myself, that you go south for the winner.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: And you got out a town just before the snow started to fly and we got our negative four degree, you know windshield situation.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: And you got out in the early November.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: How long have you been in evangelism?
- 1:36[SPEAKER_02]: uh... for uh... uh... the last uh... twelve years and then amen in that time if you were given rattling off some stats or something like that how many different states or how many different meetings how many what kind of stats would you give uh... oh my i don't know how many different meetings because when we started out we would uh...
- 1:58[SPEAKER_02]: And helping small churches, we would go and stay anywhere from two to three weeks or up to six weeks if we were helping to start a new church, you know, getting out knocking doors and doing construction type work trying to help maybe get a build and ready and things like that along with the so when and so I don't know meetings wise.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: But we have been in, I think, all but West Virginia, Virginia, and the Carolinas, as far as the States from the Rockies East.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: Wow, I have not traveled west.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_02]: My wife didn't want to go through the mountains with the RV.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: So we've avoided the West, that's up to Andrew Rare.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about whether Andrew and just a little bit here, but talk just about the genesis of the ministry.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: We'll get back, we'll talk about the man before the ministry.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's amazing how God takes us ill equipped as we are and we may be unqualified.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: We may be unacquipped, but he equips us for the work and he enables us.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: And so we'll talk about the younger Scott Nettoville, but how did the Lord mold the ministry that he's given you?
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about Bible handout and some of those amazing things that God has done.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: But how did God place a burden on your heart to help some of these smaller churches and some of that need maybe a pass or just needed some to come alongside and be a help for it.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: Time how did God do that work in your heart?
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: Well, actually I had had had
- 3:45[SPEAKER_02]: finished 10 years of pastoring in the Houston area and pastina taxes and was new.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_02]: God was moving us in a different direction and was going to
- 4:00[SPEAKER_02]: a church in Baytown, Texas, Garth Road Baptist Church for the G.M.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: Lamb was a pastor and on a Sunday evening, he got up and read Acts 8-4.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: Therefore, they that were scattered abroad when everywhere preaching the word.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_02]: As soon as he read his text, man, the Holy Spirit of God
- 4:26[SPEAKER_02]: and said that's you, and I, to be honest, got up, went and found a Sunday school class and got home on knees and spent some time praying,
- 4:43[SPEAKER_02]: You know, making sure that that was the Lord went back to the church service and at the invitation went forward and, you know, got my wife and told her what got it done in my heart and
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: I use in that verse, and we begin to search the heart and mind of God from there for the next few months.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_02]: And exactly how God wanted us to implement.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_02]: You know that that verse and go whenever we're in preaching and we're on Amen.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's that's a blessing to hear at that even After some years in ministry that you still stayed moldable still stayed teachable to the Lord
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: feel like, even for myself, I don't have the decades in ministry.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'm working on my second decade, but in all sincerity, sometimes we can get content.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: We think we know what God wants us to do, and that's what we're supposed to do for the next 40 years.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: And the Lord can move those things.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: And so, as you saw the mind of God on that, He led you, what did it become?
- 5:58[SPEAKER_01]: Well, as you went to churches and things like that, how and what ways did you help them?
- 6:04[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we started out with just the mindset of, and we use the phrase helping small churches and helping start new churches.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: because I had passed her to small church for 10 years.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I knew that sometimes the heartaches, the discouragements, it's very easy when you're passed her in a small church to get discouraged.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: If you look at other ministries that are maybe larger than yours, ministries that are growing,
- 6:41[SPEAKER_02]: when you seem to be struggling, it became apparent to myself that there was a lot of pastors out there.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: There was a lot of things in the ministry you go to conferences and
- 6:58[SPEAKER_02]: you know, church growth conference or go to a Bible conference and they talk about, you know, this church growing and that church growing and, and you know, I was reminded in the Old Testament how there was captains of Tians, captains of 50s, captains of hundreds.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_02]: And in my mind,
- 7:25[SPEAKER_02]: It was God's providence, where that captain would end up.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: And it's the same's true with a pastor of a church.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: Scott's providence, he places on where he wants them.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_02]: And not every church is gonna be a church of a hundred or two, a hundred or three hundred.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: Some churches are gonna be churches of 25 churches of 40 people, 50 people.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_02]: And not that you shouldn't work it, so one in, not that you shouldn't strive.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: to grow that church, but you're not always going to see the growth that maybe you want to see.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_02]: And you've got to learn to be content with that.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_02]: And because I had been through that, I just wanted to get out there and help, especially younger pastors that were
- 8:29[SPEAKER_02]: talked with them on the phone about that discouragement and about how to overcome and how to continue on, you know, you may have heard it before from some pastors, well, you know, so when it hadn't worked anymore.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_02]: that that means their church didn't row and through door knockin'.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we know so when in is a biblical, you know, a biblical command.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_02]: And so it doesn't matter whether my church is growing or not.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_02]: What matters is am I going to obey the command that I've been giving?
- 9:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's God's, it's up to God how the church grows or does not grow.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_02]: It's my job just to obey the command and follow through with what the orders that God given me and so that that's really was the mindset is I got started with Ambassador Baptist Ministries and how to help a church.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: with a pastor and his family.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_02]: Most many times, they don't have people in the church that they can really talk to, that they can open up to, that they can fellowship with.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe, and I remember, especially there were times that my wife and I would babysit for the pastor and his wife,
- 10:10[SPEAKER_02]: You don't allow just anybody to babysit your kids.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: And so when we come in, we'd offer to babysit the kids and let the pastor and his wife go out on a date.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_02]: And in fact, many times when we go back, they'd be waiting, man, are you gonna babysit for us?
- 10:32[SPEAKER_02]: we want to be able to go out.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_02]: So those kind of things were some of the things that help direct us in helping small churches.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: And I know I'm kind of going on with, but then in helping helping churches that were our idea of establish.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: or excuse me, helping churches that were starting with Brother Jonathan Ryzer, Brother Marty Montgomery.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_02]: We'd go there, we have our RV, we would find a place to stay, we would be there for about six weeks, we would help coordinate,
- 11:16[SPEAKER_02]: through, at that time, we're receding Illinois out of faith Baptist by their angels church.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_02]: Many other churches worked with that ministry and we would help poor night churches coming in to help not doors during that six week period before the church got started not only help
- 11:41[SPEAKER_02]: get churches that would want to be involved, but then map out where to go, so when they got there, just help the new pastor, because they, as a new pastor,
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: a lot of them had questions, you know, wasn't sure what to do about maybe a certain situation, you know, or how to, you know, how should we set this up, you know, as far as platforms, forms concerned, or what if we don't have a piano, what can, and many new churches don't have a piano, or a pianist, and so what can we do about that?
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, helping them,
- 12:22[SPEAKER_02]: through just different scenarios like that and starting a new church and more just a lot goes into it I think a lot of people don't understand how much goes in to starting a new church is not just you know moving someplace and knocking door absolutely there's a lot more to and then
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: Brother Nederville was such a help to church planters all over America.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to hear more from him all this week right here on Bible Tract Echoes.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: Have a great day for his glory.
