Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: I don't know why I've never been a fan of the word intermittent when it comes to fasting.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: I don't know, I don't think it gives it full full weight to how powerful the mechanism of actually starvation happens to be.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: And it depends on how long you want to go, how effective it will be.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: And of course, before you quit eating anything, you want to make sure you want to follow up with your doctor.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: And if you're taking some kind of medication, you ask them if in fact it's going to be detrimental for you to skip a few meals because that medicine could have a much greater impact on you than it normally would if in fact you were feeding most of the day.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Now, I talk about most of the day.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: As Americans, we are very used to eating and grazing in a way, and that is going to keep your insulin levels nice and high, which nice and high isn't actually good.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: You're going to be continually storing food on your system.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you remember back in the day, but before I was able to torch off that 135 pounds of body fat, I had gone through many diets.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: I tried them all.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: And the one that was most effective, which kind of runs a little similar to the fasting, was when I cut out all carbohydrates.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: And I got, I didn't cut them all out because a lot of foods have very negligible amounts, but they're still there.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: But again, I did reduce them a lot to less than 20 grams a day, which if you had been in dieting for any while trying to conquer your fatness, you will remember the Atkins diet, which did purport to say you should be ingesting no more than 20 grams of carbohydrates a day.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: And then you could have whatever else you wanted to eat in that particular day.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: So we take that particular system, which actually gave the person that was doing that type of diet access to the stored body fat through something called ketosis, and carnivore does something similar.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Paleo, depending on the level of carbohydrates, will also do that.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: But typically, as Americans, we're pretty much used to burning the incoming sugar and carbohydrates for energy, never really tapping into that stored body fat.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: In order to get into that, if you do restrict those carbohydrates, for the most part, people are going to fall in line and you will actually switch fuel systems, going from burning that incoming carbohydrates and stuff for fuel to actually the stored body fat on your system.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: And that's that fat is there for a reason.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Then if you incorporate fasting, well, you've just really pulled out a blowtorch and started to melt that fat away.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: And that will be something that you'll have to experience yourself.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: A lot of people ask, how can you get through without eating for a day or even two days, let alone a week or two weeks?
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: It's not easy, but understand that that hunger hormone ghrelin is like a wave, so it's going to hit you at the times you most likely were to be eating.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: And when it does, you can ride that wave out.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: It's going to last anywhere from maybe an hour, hour and ten minutes.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: It's going to depend on you.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: The longer you do it, the less that wave is going to affect you and you'll be able to continue.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: It really is fantastic.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: We'll see you in the next one.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Take care.
