- 0:00Hi and welcome to the Curve Weekly. The podcast that keeps you up to date with all the
- 0:06money, business and stock market tea. Everyone should experience for us at least once
- 0:10in their lives, and Annie shouldn't miss out just because she can't afford it. Help
- 0:13me, I'm poor. I think you're going to be very disappointed
- 0:16in me. Why? I've done a naughty thing that I haven't done in years like a long, long,
- 0:23time. What? I've brought the prop. Can you guess what it is? A fine. It's worse. Parking
- 0:34fine. It's worse. You don't have a car. Nope, way worse. Okay, basically what happened
- 0:41was. It's your nice, nice number. Nope. I... Okay, you were going to have that fight with
- 0:48the E guy on the phone when we went to that cute country getaway weekend. I was arguing
- 0:55with them because they didn't put a... Yeah, basically they didn't put a spend cap. Anyway,
- 1:01they would really, it was totally their bad to debt collect letter. I thought the last
- 1:07phone call I had with them, I'd nailed it and that they were like, Eric and you could
- 1:12fight that? I had got rid of it. Yeah. But now I just found this email, I mean this letter,
- 1:17and it was like, we are working on behalf of our client E.E. We're trying to find Sophie
- 1:23Hallwright on an urges business matter. We're wanting to verify blah, blah, blah, really
- 1:29hepto. Just rub it up, put it in the bin and it'll go away. So this is what I was thinking.
- 1:33I genuinely wanted to ask you. Do you reckon I could get someone? Absolutely not. I don't
- 1:36even know. I would just hear me out. What I thought I could do is maybe be like, she's
- 1:45left the country, she doesn't live here anymore, and then maybe they'll just let it go.
- 1:50Absolutely not. But it's not my fault, I shouldn't have to pay a $400 phone bill. I think
- 1:55it is your fault. So you don't reckon it's a... I'm sorry, it's quite brutal. No, no, no,
- 2:01it's fine. Fuck. I honestly, I'd like had it next. This is why spending caps of the air in
- 2:08the first place is because otherwise people will get like $400 pound bills. But also, I
- 2:16can just fight it and be like, what did they say on the phone? Oh, he was such a dick.
- 2:20You know, those people look like security guards in a G. I reckon you could fight it and be like,
- 2:25either you didn't put a spin cap on and that's your customer responsibility. I don't just make
- 2:34it, just make yourself sound like you know what I'm talking about. Maybe I'll get a lawyer involved.
- 2:37If there's any lawyers listening, they reckon they could help me. I'd much appreciate it.
- 2:40The other thing was that they were charging you for WhatsApp calls. That's right. And you
- 2:45would know WhatsApp uses data and Wi-Fi. Yeah. And they were like charging for
- 2:50the national school. It was something like if it dropped out of internet, they swapped it to
- 2:55charging me for minutes or something. Yeah. It was so shit anyway. Just ask them for a breakdown
- 3:00of all the charges. And then you can go back and be like, hey, this was actually, yeah.
- 3:06Dude, why did you just get unlimited? I've got unlimited data. I'm not good with Edmund, okay?
- 3:12It was telling me to do this, do this, press this button and I was like, I'd just go in because I
- 3:16find it overwhelming as well. I just went into the store and I was like, look, I need unlimited data.
- 3:20I need calls. I want to do running. I was in Spain at the time of France or something. I was
- 3:24overseas and I was trying to get it to work anyway. Anyway, sorry. Well, silver lining.
- 3:32Oh, please tell me there's a silver lining. It won't happen again.
- 3:35Really? Well, hopefully. Do you know how many times this should have happened to me? Like,
- 3:39not returning DVDs and then all of a sudden bake-ups on my ass or like... DVDs? How old are you, girl?
- 3:46It was actually the receptionist. It's not returning library books, you know?
- 3:48Oh, sorry.
- 3:53So...
- 3:54Did anything happen in your week?
- 3:55Sorry, I just come prepared with finance. Okay, cool, cool, cool.
- 3:59You know, great. You can't compete with life news. I come with finance news.
- 4:02Sure, sure. I'll come with... I'll make sure I invent your out.
- 4:07Yeah, you might need to. You might need to just, like,
- 4:11live a little bit. Get a life, maybe. Get a life, though, as well as researching finance.
- 4:15I know. So, lots of fun stuff has happened. So, we met with this lovely girl. I went for a drink at
- 4:23shortage house. She was in town. I wanted to have a meeting. Anyway, it was funny. We were like,
- 4:28oh, should we get some snacks? And I instantly knew I was like, Sophie Horricks,
- 4:31I want... Oh my god, Sophie Horricks, gonna want to get the $1 million tips.
- 4:36That's the most basic thing. It's like this beautiful, like, sushi, like, yeah.
- 4:41I thought that you were being a bit sass queen on the Guajalmoli because you were like,
- 4:47I don't know, but then you... It's like ordering bread. No, it's not. I find, you know,
- 4:51it's kind of a bit like, it's avocado and corn chips. See, I'm a Mexican at heart. Yeah.
- 4:56I was, I've definitely was in the Mayan times. Yeah. That's like their Indigenous
- 5:02anxious age and like culture. Okay. When I was in Mexico, I just thought I am Han.
- 5:07Anyway, the point is, when you said, oh, do you want to get guacamole? I thought you were trying
- 5:11to like fold off like, Sophie wants guacamole, but secretly, you wanted it. It was good guacamole,
- 5:17it was... Yes, I'm a bit of a sticklifer. I'm a bit of a per... What's the word? You know
- 5:25when you're a bit... Fussy? Yeah, I'm a bit fussy with my guacamole. I like it big chance,
- 5:33almost just like chopped up avocado. Oh my god, it gets it. With dab, this is onion, tomato,
- 5:38and it's like just... I like it fresh, basic, yeah. This is so funny. I think guacamole is my
- 5:45number one skill when it comes to food. Like, I often, I'm like, oh, I'll bring guacamole,
- 5:51and then, honestly, maybe only six months ago, that told me that she hated my guacamole.
- 5:55I was like, I had no idea. It's just like, it's like whipped avocado. I know, I miss it a lot.
- 6:00It's like cream consistency, which some people would like, but I just... I think you're on there
- 6:04normally. I reckon most people like my guacamole. It's like if I'm out at breakfast and they're like,
- 6:09do you want avocado on the side? I'm like, yes, I'm going to bring out and it's like a dollop of
- 6:13guacamole. I'm like, no, no, I said avocado, that's guacamole. Do you know? I'm one of those. I think
- 6:19Fussi's the order looking for Fussi, yeah. Right up there, yeah. I know. Probably.
- 6:25Anyway, why I'm talking about this is that, do you remember Guzman and Gomez? Yes. Yeah, so they
- 6:31IPO this week. Did they? Are they still in New Zealand? Because I remember there. Yeah, they're
- 6:36not chose. Mainly in Australia. Yeah. They're not in New Zealand. Australia, Singapore, Japan,
- 6:41New Year's. Oh my God. All right. So this is from Sydney days. Sydney days. And for those of you
- 6:45don't know, good. Oh my God. You got it. GYG. Guzman and Gomez. For those of you don't know,
- 6:51it's kind of like a really, they're probably going to hate me. So it's like kind of like a
- 6:58Mexicali, but nicer. It's just like a nicer Mexican. Do you know what it is? It's good
- 7:04Mexican takeaways. It's not like shitty fast foods. Yeah, Mexican takeaways. It's like fresh.
- 7:09I don't just taste it. It's young. Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, they IPO this week.
- 7:15Is it owned by? Is that like a big company or? Yeah. So the founders are still there and as well
- 7:20as a private equity company. That's the reason that IPO's was that the private equity company wanted
- 7:25to sell some stocks. So they IPO. Are there founders Mexican? They must be. No. So this is the
- 7:31funny thing. They don't have a Mexican bone in their body. No. They're two finance guys. No way.
- 7:36And they just obviously saw a gap in the market. It started. Can I love that? Is that weird?
- 7:41And the share price was up 40% in one day. I reckon I'd back it. If anyone's living in Australia,
- 7:49could you give us an update on the quality of Guzman and Gomez? I'd love to care if it's still good.
- 7:54Because sometimes when you get scaled, it can turn to shit. Because when we were there,
- 7:58it would have been like six, seven years ago. And it was delicious. I mean, it can't
- 8:02go on that downhill after IPO. Right? No. Yeah. Exactly. I mean, they've got huge ambitious role
- 8:08plans. Yes. So they IPO, they've done really, really well. And this is off the back of like,
- 8:14there's been like a global glut of IPO's like the markets haven't been doing too well. Everyone's
- 8:20kind of paused things. And so to come out of the gates with this like amazing IPO in Australia,
- 8:25everyone's like, yes, IPO like season is back. And it might pave the way for some other Australian
- 8:31IPO's or companies that were sitting there going, should we, shouldn't we? So really good. And
- 8:35it's good. It's a sign of a healthy, healthy economy, a healthy country, healthy market is when
- 8:40you've got lots of really, really good IPOs. And yeah, the fact that it was up 40% in one day is
- 8:47just crazy. But this is comes back to like invest in what you know. How do you see? Oh, what you love.
- 8:50I think you can tell it that invest in what you love. I love nachos. Yeah. I want to invest.
- 8:56Molly. As of Mexican. I'd love to invest in Brisbane and Gomez. Yeah. Can I invest
- 9:01whereas you can now? Yeah, it's on the ASX. So Australian stock exchange. I don't
- 9:06know if I invest in the ASX. Yeah, I've mainly invested in US companies, to be honest. But yeah,
- 9:11you can invest in it. I'd like to diversify myself into Australia. Yes. Anyway, they raised about
- 9:17$300 million. And part of that was yes, like you said, to be paid back to private equity,
- 9:23who invested in it for a while. And part of it was used to grow, they're going to grow the stores
- 9:29from like 200 to 1000 over the next 20 years. But this is kind of a good sign. You don't want all
- 9:36the money to be going to paying out existing shareholders. Because then there's no money left in
- 9:41the business to help it grow. You know, this only makes sense now that we've done a capital race.
- 9:45Yeah. Because I think that like if we're raising it, we're going to external investors just to,
- 9:49because we wanted to take money out. There's no money. It's just like a transfer of wealth.
- 9:54Well, also I guess the way to think about it as well is like that money's not going to grow the
- 9:58company. It's not going to change anything in terms of increasing the share price because it's
- 10:03purely being taken straight out. Yeah. Which defeats the purpose. Like why would you ever give
- 10:07someone money if it's just to go like that's yeah, I don't know. But that didn't make sense to me
- 10:12really until recently. Because you you want to be investing in companies or buying shares or
- 10:19giving a company money. If they have big plans that you're like, yes, get it. You're going to be
- 10:26huge. You're going to do this. Not like Victoria Harris wants to take some money out of the
- 10:30curve to buy a boat. You'd be like, why would I give you money for that? Exactly. Yeah. And then I
- 10:34obviously doesn't seem to buy as I just fuck off. I'd have less than less to do with the business.
- 10:38Can't imagine a yacht by the way. I know. You'd need a skipper. Yeah. You'd just come with me.
- 10:44I'd be my skipper. I love that you think I know how to do it. No way. I've been hitting the head
- 10:48with like a boom pop before. Oh my god. Same when I was a seascaught. So many times.
- 10:54A seascaught. A seascaught. I love seascaughts. I was like so anti-girl guys. Did you have a
- 10:59little like a little scarf? Can you find a fire? And I remember rolling it up and then you're
- 11:03freaking out. No. And then you go. Yeah. Yeah. I was ahead the day. Can we get island to get some
- 11:08photos out? I was like, and you have like different levels of like, oh my god. I can't remember the
- 11:13names. You have like first mate, like you know, like you climb it right. Wait. So you learned to
- 11:18actually say it all. I was sailing. Yeah. We capsized out in, out in O'Recky in Auckland. And I was
- 11:24with this other guy. And I remember being like, I thought I was scared of sharks. And he went into
- 11:28full panic mode. And was like freaking out. And I kept my cool when I said, oh my god. And then we
- 11:33got, you were like completely upside down. But it's quite funny. But I take everything I said.
- 11:38You could totally hit it off. We did like everything from sea to light. We could move
- 11:44up. But I am happy for you. Yeah. And one of my first war friends was another was a seascaught
- 11:50too. How old were you? I would have been like a living. How did you get boyfriend so early?
- 11:56Or like boy, you know what a boyfriend. No, but I don't feel like I got one until I was like
- 12:00seven. I don't even think it's 17. I think my first boyfriend was 19. Did I bloom late? Or was it like,
- 12:07oh no, that's not true actually. I did. I can't imagine now like kids, 11, 12 years old,
- 12:13having boyfriend. I'm like, actually I did have a, like there was this boy called, oh I won't
- 12:18say his name actually. But at my prime school. He's very nice. We'll call him Stephen. Stephen. And
- 12:24I would sing Savage Garden to each other. We'd hold hands and they're like, I want to stand.
- 12:30You are a mountain. Cute. Oh my gosh.
- 12:35What did we find out? How did we even get to the top of it? Okay. Anyway, the company's now
- 12:45worth $3.3 billion, which for a Mexican fast food chain. Huge. Quite crazy. Yeah. And the
- 12:51co-founder made 250 million in one day. But he didn't take it out, right? No, but he's like,
- 12:56on paper, he's made that much, which is quite incredible. Yeah. Well, we saw an IPO's,
- 13:02Golden Goose, which we spoke about a few weeks ago. The vodka brand. Shoes. Shoes. That
- 13:08starts with the stars. Yeah. I did the same thing last time, didn't I? Yeah, you know.
- 13:14Creature of heaven. They have paused the IPO. It would be sorry, but it would be great if I could
- 13:20get some good habits, like not just shit. You know, you'll get that on. Speaking all of it,
- 13:24then you'll want to join a habit challenge. We'll put details in the show. I see. Yeah. Thank you.
- 13:29Golden Goose, the shoe company, has paused its IPO. Great. Because they were not doing well,
- 13:35weren't they? Well, no, they were, but the company that was the private equity company that was
- 13:39selling Golden Goose to the public markets had had a pretty bad trick record. They had listed Doc
- 13:44Martin's and they hadn't done well. So why have they paused it? Well, they're saying market
- 13:49conditions, which is like, it can be a combination of there's not enough investor interest.
- 13:55It's like they've got a nice personality. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. And you're sitting
- 14:00there going, cool. So you think I'm not hot? Oh, my God. You know that amazingly funny chick,
- 14:07she's sitting there being like, when he says that you have, when he sees these interpersonal
- 14:11realities, not looks, and you're sitting there feeling low-fi ugly. She is. I love her. I love
- 14:19her. Anyone that has not seen her, oh, fucking hell, like she is classic. The woman she's in the car
- 14:25and she's like, it's like, you're like, shit, pop song comes on. You're having a fight. It's like,
- 14:29can you keep up? Yeah, no, but you're trying to be like into the conversation here. The other
- 14:33one when she says he loves your personality. So you show him six others. Yeah.
- 14:41All the girls left. Get it. Get it. Get it. Yes. Golden Ghost has paused their IPO
- 14:48due to market conditions. They said it's like the European elections for each election. You
- 14:52know, there's a lot of elections going on and a lot of market uncertainty. Let's just pause it.
- 14:55So I don't know. But it's not a good sign. Is the equity equity, the private equity company
- 15:00just holding on to it basically? Yeah. Yeah. But I, like, this is never a good sign. If an IPO
- 15:06does the rounds to try and see if there's invested demand, then pulls it, even if they came back
- 15:10until years time, there's still a bit of a real thing. Okay, well, you couldn't get demand last.
- 15:17It could be that they're financials. I don't know. They've just realized they've had a really
- 15:20shit year. So there could be a number of reasons, actual reasons, but yeah. Another thing,
- 15:28we've got some man little. Well, this is kind of like annoying, frustrating, like, what the
- 15:39fuck? Yeah. I don't even know. I think I know we are going with this. Yeah, I think I was so
- 15:44outraged that I had to share with so what we were going to talk about today because I was just like,
- 15:48honestly, found this article and just so perplexed. I just really, I, who wrote the article?
- 15:56Was it a woman? Was it a guy? You know, I'm an economist, which is like, but like, how does that
- 16:02get past? Like, how does someone pitch that? It's been not saying that they believe it. It's
- 16:07like statistics. Okay. Okay, okay. Let's just talk about this. Yeah. People are like, what are you
- 16:11talking about? Just brace yourselves if you're walking, maybe take a seat. Yeah. If you're holding
- 16:18a knife chopping stuff for dinner, just sit down. Yeah. Take a deep breath. There is studies that show
- 16:26that the thinner you are, the higher your salary. So the thinner you are, the more you earn, which is
- 16:36which, yeah, but hold on. Can you elaborate? Because is that saying like really amazing super
- 16:42models get paid? Heaps or like, where is that coming from? What are the stats? So it's the key
- 16:46thing here is in what they've kind of talked about in the article is around for women, only woman,
- 16:54the thinner you are, the more you earn. So the richer you are, the thinner you tend to be,
- 16:59that kind of thing. Whereas for men, there's no correlation. In fact, in like places like South
- 17:07Korea, the more obese you are, the more you earn. So it's this whole like why? Why is it that
- 17:14for no beast woman losing weight could literally boost her salary by as much as getting a master's
- 17:19degree? Say that one more time. So for no beast woman, losing weight could boost her salary as much
- 17:26as getting a master's degree. Okay. I'm just going to suggest something we do right now and I just
- 17:30need you to roll that. Okay. This is for all the gals out there now, one moment please.
- 17:35Oh my god. We're just going to scream. Yeah. Okay. This is just for all the gals.
- 17:46Three, two, one. Okay. I'm done. That felt good. So if we increased our weight by 10%,
- 18:00our salaries would decrease by 6%. Like it's just like what the book? And anyway, they've tried
- 18:09cross like all industries is the developed countries. So like yeah across across the world pretty much.
- 18:15And they've kind of tried to figure out why and traditionally, if you lived in poverty,
- 18:23it's harder to access healthy foods and effectively have education around what is healthy foods,
- 18:30what's not. And so therefore you tend to be a bit more overweight or obese. But then if that's
- 18:36the argument, that should apply to both genders, not necessarily woman only. So there's this whole
- 18:43conversation is like, yeah, why is it just woman? And I don't have the answer, but it's that's just
- 18:51this is the statistics. Is there anything about getting you more wealth or is it the people that
- 18:58have lots of money, a skinnier? Because I think there could be a car like, do you know what I mean?
- 19:06They've looked across all developed countries and gone, the richer you are, the thinner you are,
- 19:11thinner you are. So that's kind of what I mean is do you think it's that people that are
- 19:16wealthier, a skinnier? Yes. Rather than if you're skinnier, you can get wealthier. Do you know what I
- 19:22mean? Like as in correlation versus isolation? Yeah, yeah. I'm just wondering if it's like, because
- 19:27this is a weird example, but I nannyed when I was at Sydney. I like, it's a long story, but I didn't
- 19:32have a contract renewed when I first moved down. It was just like very stressful. And I was like,
- 19:36do you know what? I'm skinning Annie for a bit. And I nannyed for this family who had a huge amount
- 19:40of money. And they, the kids were like, I felt really bad for them, because the parents were quite
- 19:47disconnected. And anyway, the mum was so thin and she only really drunk wine. And like, it was
- 19:54really sad. And you know, I guess the reason I'm saying is there's so much pressure
- 20:02I think on women needing to look a certain way or whatever it's like, you know, keep their
- 20:08husband or keep their partner like, what is this is getting at is the fact that like we
- 20:15even like wanting to get Botox and get rid of wrinkles and let you know, we're very
- 20:21focused on exercising, eating healthy, a pair of that appearance. And therefore that plays into
- 20:30out earning capacity, which is so that's why that's why many. Is it out earning capacity though
- 20:35or is it? Yes. Yeah. So it's saying that here, it's saying that if increasing your weight by 10
- 20:41percent results and it's 6 percent decrease in your income. But the example you're talking about,
- 20:46she's not earning a salary. Yeah. She's just wealthy by like assuming marriage. Yeah. Yeah. So
- 20:52it's this is this is an earning capacity thing. So I don't know, it's just like, oh that's
- 20:58yes. And there are fixed worsens as you get older. So yeah. Do you know what? The whole
- 21:05like dad bod thing drives me up. Yeah. Yeah. That we're and by the way, I'm not saying there was
- 21:11mum bod. No, that's exactly what I mean. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with a dad bod.
- 21:16Like at all, I'm just saying it's so annoying that we've fetishized the dad bod. And yet the
- 21:21mum bod is like, you're not supposed to bounce back. Oh, I'm just like, yeah, I know. Okay,
- 21:26we're going to have to move on from this because I'm getting really well. Yes. Yeah. No, it's
- 21:29pretty freaking like, and do you know what I'm sorry? Can I say one more thing? I think what's really
- 21:35shit is that in my head, I like, I'm very aware of try every time I think to myself, oh, like,
- 21:43you know, I put on weight and I don't put my pants or like, you know, because I have, I don't
- 21:46fit a lot of my clothes that I used to like a year ago. And I, it's such a, it takes so much
- 21:53willpower every time I spiral down the hole, like feeling bad about how I look to get out of that
- 21:58hole, to not act on that or to not feel like I need, it's like, my body's beautiful. And I should
- 22:04really intrinsically know and feel that. But like, yeah, I, they're like generations of
- 22:11oppression on woman and what our bodies should look like. It's really, I do find like often I have
- 22:15to like, really actively move myself out of that mindset of like, yeah. And I just, I just don't know
- 22:21if that's something that men have ever experienced or feel, because it's never been like, I mean,
- 22:27I'm sure there's a lot of men that have got, you know, body, like, to small for your issues,
- 22:32with how they love it. For sure. Like, I'm definitely not saying that this is like a gendered thing.
- 22:36I just think it sucks that like, the success and happiness is connected to your weight because,
- 22:43well, success. No, this is, yeah, but I think what I mean is like, we're kind of told that like,
- 22:49how to look, you know, nothing feels good as, nothing tastes as good as skinny feel, you know,
- 22:54as if you're gonna feel good from being thinner. But actually, like, if I think about the times
- 22:57that I've been, my thinnest, I've been the most unhappy. Yeah. And it's all about being
- 23:03irrican for me, like healthy, do you know what I mean? Like, you can be unhealthy and overweight,
- 23:09but you can be unhealthy and underweight as well. Well, you've experienced that in the last six
- 23:12months. And it's like, I feel strong. I feel fit. I feel healthy. And like, when you're out and have
- 23:18a weekend and eat shit food and drink alcohol and all of that, I don't feel sorry. I was meaning,
- 23:24you like got to a point in the last six months, where you know, like, you were so stressed that you
- 23:29lost heaps of weight. And like, you weren't happy. And it's funny. The people that like, comment
- 23:33in a positive way. And it's like, and I'm kind of like, I don't even know what to say. I'm like,
- 23:38thank you. But yeah, it's, it's so weird. It's like this weird. People always comment on your weight
- 23:45as well. Like, it's like, I can't imagine imagine if you like, you just heard two guys. Oh,
- 23:49your pants look low. So when would that ever be a comment? Okay, let's move on.
- 23:54Sorry, yeah, we just don't have it all with us. So jumping back to IPOs. And remember how I
- 24:00said it was, I had good sign of a healthy economy, healthy market, healthy country, the UK,
- 24:05and London is really struggling with IPOs. It's like, lowest level, it's been in years. And so what
- 24:12the financial markets here has decided to do is like loosen the rules so that companies,
- 24:17it's easier for companies to list on the London Stock Exchange. Do you think that's the reason
- 24:20people have stopped listening? Like, because it is too annoying and difficult. Well, I just think
- 24:24when you're when your market is not doing well, your stock market, it's like, why would I list
- 24:29on that when I could listen to you? And it's doing fantastically well. But it's such a vicious cycle
- 24:33because as soon as something does, do you know what I mean? It's like, it's like for there's an
- 24:36empty restaurant, you want to go support it, but you also want to go where there's more people.
- 24:41There's a line and yeah, 100%. But there's a great Warren Buffett quote. And it said, it takes
- 24:4620 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you'll do things
- 24:51differently. And this is exactly what everyone's saying about London. They're like, okay, if you loosen
- 24:55the rules and you get some really bad shitty IPOs or dodgy or corrupt or like, you know, companies that
- 25:04have forged their accounts because your rules are so relaxed. You know, you case like a financial
- 25:12hub of the world. And it's almost built its reputation on being so strict and being so proper
- 25:18and be having all these rules and regulations. And so there's this whole, I guess, push and pull
- 25:25of like, yes, but they need more listings. But no, anyway, yeah. So like, one of the things that
- 25:30they're dropping is the fact that a company has to show three years of historical financials,
- 25:36which like three years is not a lot. I would want to see three years. So for a person investing
- 25:44in a company and you're only seeing one or two years, it's like, you can massage one or two years.
- 25:49Do you know what I mean? Yeah, anyway. So yes, it might backfire, but we will see also the reason
- 25:56that we're getting back to what you're talking about about like, why is that? It's mainly Brexit.
- 26:01And just like the shitty governments that they've had over here in terms of like, how many people
- 26:05have they had lead this country in the last six years? I think Brexit was, yeah. Brexit's the
- 26:11flow on effects. It's crazy how it's still. I would love to go back to everyone that voted.
- 26:17I remember when the European Union was like, created all the euro, like I remember, we would,
- 26:23we would have French, France, like every country had their own currency. And then the euro was
- 26:29introduced. And it was like, then you just had one currency. And I remember trying to comprehend
- 26:34it when I was little. And I was like, so what like, you don't have your own currency for a country.
- 26:38It's like a region and like, yeah, that is really weird. And I mean, like playing with old coins
- 26:42of a French, France and just like, they're redundant. They're like stroking her. I remember
- 26:47having my name for my young age, you know, of like, leftover coins from his travels. They
- 26:51were just like, and it was just, yeah, I hope you washed your hands. Yeah, no, three croissants.
- 26:58Do you touch on average eight penises in your life without actually touching them? Honestly,
- 27:02you are the most rogue person ever. Like, some time rails, like, wait, say that again,
- 27:08what would you touch it? You touch on average eight penises without actually touching a penis.
- 27:12Yeah. No. Yeah. Quite gross, say. In your lifetime, in your lifetime, yeah, yeah.
- 27:18Oh, okay. So like, that's, okay, that's quite a lot more rare than others.
- 27:21Yeah. And also to find touch, and there's something like, you drink two liters of urine from
- 27:26like public. No, okay. I don't want to know any of this. That's just right along. I'm like,
- 27:31really ignorance is bliss when it comes to diet. Because I'm already quite like, I wash my hands
- 27:36all the time. Oh my god. I'm sorry. I'm just like, thinking like something in a pool and like,
- 27:43another news, Revolut. Yes. Yes. So they are a private, a private company, don't get excited.
- 27:50But they're looking to sell about $500 million worth of equity. So that's like stock.
- 27:55Because they've got existing investors that want to sell. And so when you're not a public
- 27:59company, you kind of have to do transactions like this. And because there's such a big company,
- 28:04it's made the news. So how are they doing it? So you do, you would go to a broker and you'd be like,
- 28:12hey, look, we've got $500 million that investors want to sell. Can you go find a buyer? And so it's
- 28:19mainly because they're staff, they've given staff shares. And then staff want to sell. They've
- 28:24been around. They've been in the business for a long time. And because there's not an active
- 28:29market, like a stock exchange where staff can do that, then the company has to create a market
- 28:36effectively. You can do it once a year, twice a year, you could just do it at Hawk whenever you want.
- 28:42So yeah, but the size of the company, and every time you do that, you have to value the business.
- 28:46Revolut for anyone who doesn't know, it's like a neo bank. It's like a digital bank. It's actually
- 28:50just launched in New Zealand like a year ago, but it's massive over in the UK and you're at 40
- 28:55million customers it has. I love the digital banks. Yeah. How easy is your bonds or the other ones
- 29:02that jump on and be like, split this bill like it's easy. It's like, and I've come from the last
- 29:07time I went into a bank teller, like, do you know what I mean? I can just do it all on the app.
- 29:10I can chat to them. I can yeah, it's pretty good. But sometimes in person's better, sometimes in
- 29:18person. Oh, with the EU, yes. Just thinking about my bill. Yeah, you know, like admin for me is
- 29:23quite difficult. So I don't mind being able to go and talk to someone. Yes. No. Yeah.
- 29:27Let's put that away. Revolut is not IPO-ing. And it's valued at 40 billion dollars, which is the
- 29:33same size as Lloyd's bank. And she's just trying to get over research. Yeah. Yeah. Cool. Thanks.
- 29:39She's like, no, no, I spent time doing this. You will listen. You will listen. Do you know they
- 29:43don't even have a banking license in the UK? Yeah. So they can't lend money like monzo and
- 29:48styling. That's good though. I think because it's like, they've been waiting three years for
- 29:51banking license. So this is like, we need to get regular in time that we can talk. No one
- 29:56even knows what regulated means. This is this is in house chat. No one understands it. Well,
- 30:00it just gets frustrating because we obviously want to be like more open about finances money. But
- 30:05there is a line where it's like, we have we're education. We're not giving advice. So it's like
- 30:10fine line. Before we round up, we have our 30 day. What about that? Before we round up. Oh,
- 30:17God. Before we wrap up, we have our 30 day challenge starting today. We do. And so this is
- 30:24something that can I spoke about last week on the podcast. We're basically trying to incentivise
- 30:30our own good behaviour to like pay ourselves. Oh, I didn't transfer mine this morning. Jesus.
- 30:36So starting today, if you're listening, it's up to you. You can join us all the details in
- 30:39the show notes, the podcast or you can go like our Instagram and have a look. But basically it's
- 30:44you can choose anything. It might be you want to go swimming three times a week. It might be
- 30:48read like five pages of your book every night. Yeah. And it's just like, if you do it,
- 30:51even though you do it, you transfer how much you've decided. So it might be five dollars.
- 30:55Well, swimming a week that doesn't work. No, you can. They can do it three days a week for the whole
- 31:00month. You know, it's like whatever. I don't feel like they can't join in. But I did like
- 31:06a test trial this week, because mine is getting up at the same time going to bed. It's such an
- 31:11over two or doing like three things. No, it's not. You do all those things anyway. Like you literally
- 31:16do this and more every day of your life. I choose one habit. So I'm like, I'm going to do this,
- 31:19this, this and this. I reckon anyway, the point is I've only done three out of five days and I'm
- 31:23quite sad about it. Oh, no. Well, we're starting now. So yeah, that was like my practice room.
- 31:29I just find it quite awkward like to be really strict on stuff sometimes because it's like if you go
- 31:34to an event and you're like, Oh, no, go to get home to bed. You know, it's like it's yeah, I know
- 31:39see you do that. I'm sorry, I made a conversation. Sorry, it's I know she looks like someone
- 31:47will order wine. And she's like, God, God. That's like the other night. I said to my friend. I
- 31:50said, No, she looks at the window. It's like light. And it's because it doesn't get dark here now
- 31:55to like 10 pm. And I was like, don't look at me like this is not normal, which is because the
- 32:00light changes. No, you're just super dedicated. It's impressive. But if you have. So what are you
- 32:04doing? What's your one? Walking in the morning. Walking in the morning. Exercise in the morning.
- 32:08Yeah. Okay. And then you translate. And read five pages of my book a day. Okay. Cool. Love that.
- 32:13So if you want to do it, we'd love to know what you're doing. What's the habit you're trying to
- 32:17implement and how much you're going to transfer. And then basically at the end of the 30 days,
- 32:22you can do whatever you want. You can invest the money. You buy something cute. But we're like
- 32:27making it a thing. So we've both set up our accounts on our online app. Basically,
- 32:32mine's called My Feel Good Fun. Yeah. That was a good fun. Yeah. That was a good idea.
- 32:35Yeah. And yeah, if you want to join, quite fun, I think, to just like,
- 32:39well, I'm desperately needing it. No, it's good. It's like because a little amount adds up. And then
- 32:44a little habit also adds up. You're like paying yourself to good habit. Rather than
- 32:49yeah, spending money on shit habits. Yeah. Bye. Bye.
