Latest / DEEP INSIGHT / China accused of MANIPULATING Americans through social media

- 0:00Speaker 1: Item on the agenda with each other and with their staffs.
- 0:03Speaker 2: This comes as about seven in 10 Americans oppose the
- 0:06Speaker 2: building of an AI data center in this area, in
- 0:09Speaker 2: their area. Let's bring in Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton, chairman
- 0:11Speaker 2: of the Senate Intelligence Committee and an expert on China,
- 0:14Speaker 2: wrote a book about it, bestseller, about what to look
- 0:17Speaker 2: out for.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Senator, what do you worry most about with this meeting?
- 0:21Speaker 1: What do you hope emerges from it?
- 0:24Speaker 3: Hey, Brian, it's good to be on with you. Well,
- 0:27Speaker 3: I might not have personally rolled out the red carpet
- 0:29Speaker 3: for a communist dictator, but I think it's more important
- 0:33Speaker 3: than what's on the menu at the White House is
- 0:36Speaker 3: what the president and Xi Jinping discuss. We need to
- 0:39Speaker 3: make it clear we won't tolerate China. stealing our AI
- 0:42Speaker 3: models the way they've cheated so much in the last
- 0:45Speaker 3: several decades, our farmers and our factory workers, that we're
- 0:50Speaker 3: not going to send them the most advanced semiconductor chips
- 0:52Speaker 3: and they shouldn't be diverting them, that they need to
- 0:54Speaker 3: stop threatening their neighbors like Taiwan and Japan, and that
- 0:58Speaker 3: we're going to stand with those neighbors. And that also
- 1:01Speaker 3: that they need to stop persecuting their own citizens, for example,
- 1:04Speaker 3: Christians inside of China or other ethnic and religious minorities.
- 1:08Speaker 3: So the pomp and circumstance matters less to me than
- 1:11Speaker 3: taking a firm, strong line against China and standing up
- 1:14Speaker 3: for American interests.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Two of the three things they don't want to hear
- 1:17Speaker 2: from us, human rights and Taiwan.
- 1:21Speaker 1: You would still bring it up. Absolutely, Brian.
- 1:26Speaker 3: We need to stand with Taiwan. We need to continue
- 1:29Speaker 3: to support Taiwan's military. The surest way to avoid a
- 1:33Speaker 3: conflict over Taiwan with China is to help Taiwan to
- 1:36Speaker 3: be able to defend itself so China won't be tempted
- 1:40Speaker 3: to go for the jugular. We need to stand with Taiwan,
- 1:42Speaker 3: just like we need to stand with our other allies
- 1:44Speaker 3: in the Western Pacific, Japan and Philippines, both treaty allies
- 1:48Speaker 3: who are threatened routinely by Chinese aggression.
- 1:51Speaker 2: So there was a massive hack, and we're just getting
- 1:53Speaker 2: information now. The FBI is investigating hackers' claims of a
- 1:56Speaker 2: massive data theft.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Here's the quote.
- 2:00Speaker 2: The FBI is aware of claims regarding unauthorized activity affecting FBIjobs.gov,
- 2:04Speaker 2: and it's currently investigating.
- 2:06Speaker 1: How big a deal is this?
- 2:10Speaker 3: Well, it's concerning, and I'm aware of these reports as well.
- 2:12Speaker 3: We're in communication with the FBI about it. Obviously, it's
- 2:15Speaker 3: not just FBI agents and applicants, but their families as well.
- 2:19Speaker 3: This group claims that they did this to get the
- 2:21Speaker 3: FBI to stop investigating them. Of course, the FBI will
- 2:24Speaker 3: never do that. They'll never succumb to such threats.
- 2:26Speaker 2: You also believe, when it comes to China, they're trying
- 2:28Speaker 2: to manipulate our news cycle.
- 2:30Speaker 1: They're trying to shape the American public.
- 2:32Speaker 2: And when we see all this negativity about data centers
- 2:35Speaker 2: and AI and fear, that works to China's agenda. You
- 2:41Speaker 2: believe they're actually working our free system against us.
- 2:46Speaker 3: They are, Brian. There's no question. This is what communist
- 2:48Speaker 3: Russia did. This is what communist China does. They use
- 2:51Speaker 3: social media. They especially use TikTok to try to influence
- 2:54Speaker 3: and manipulate American public opinion to their advantage. Of course,
- 2:59Speaker 3: we're a democracy. We have free speech. We're not going
- 3:01Speaker 3: to crack down on American citizen speech, but we need
- 3:03Speaker 3: to expose Chinese manipulation of American social media platforms and
- 3:08Speaker 3: especially the continued use of TikTok to influence America through
- 3:11Speaker 3: Chinese communist propaganda.
- 3:12Speaker 1: You're running for reelection.
- 3:13Speaker 2: You have some differing views from your challenger, Arkansas Democrat
- 3:18Speaker 2: Hallie Schaffner. She claims that farmers should trade five Americans
- 3:23Speaker 2: for just one illegal immigrant.
- 3:25Speaker 1: She does not believe— she.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Thinks it's bad to round up illegal immigrants that work
- 3:30Speaker 2: on farms.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Your thoughts?
- 3:34Speaker 3: Brian, this is a shocking statement by my liberal Democratic opponent.
- 3:38Speaker 3: She said that she would trade five Arkansans for one
- 3:42Speaker 3: illegal immigrant. The Democrats have gotten pretty radical on immigration,
- 3:47Speaker 3: but this is far beyond what even Joe Biden or
- 3:49Speaker 3: Kamala Harris said or what socialists up in New York
- 3:51Speaker 3: City are saying. And the reason for that is because
- 3:55Speaker 3: she wants to pay American workers less and she can
- 3:58Speaker 3: pay illegal aliens less if she's using them as opposed
- 4:03Speaker 3: to employing hardworking Arkansans. But again, it's just another sign
- 4:06Speaker 3: of how radical Democrats have become. Again, this is not
- 4:09Speaker 3: New York City. It's not Chicago.
- 4:11Speaker 1: It's in Arkansas.
- 4:12Speaker 3: And my opponent is talking about trading five Arkansans for
- 4:16Speaker 3: one illegal immigrant worker.
- 4:17Speaker 1: She says leave the illegals alone to work on the
- 4:20Speaker 1: farms in your stances.
- 4:24Speaker 3: No, we should be employing hardworking Arkansans on our farms. Now,
- 4:28Speaker 3: in some places, if there's infrastructure limits, like housing or
- 4:32Speaker 3: so forth, there are legal visa programs to bring in
- 4:36Speaker 3: legal immigrants to work. But there should never be the
- 4:39Speaker 3: choice to replace five Arkansans with one illegal immigrant, just
- 4:44Speaker 3: so you can pay them less and not pay hardworking
- 4:46Speaker 3: Arkansans more.
- 4:48Speaker 2: And we reached out to Hallie Schaffner for a statement
- 4:50Speaker 2: we have not heard back.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Senator Tom Cotton, thanks so much. Appreciate it.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Thank you, Brian.
- 4:56Speaker 1: All right. Last question real quick. Do you have any tattoos, Senator?
- 5:02Speaker 3: Fact-checked from what you said on the previous segment, no.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I have no tattoos, Brian.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Thank goodness. I do not have to issue a correction.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I appreciate that.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Senator Tom Cotton, my primary source. Up next, the First Lady,
